- 2:34eight. Well, before we get into all that, we've all heard about
- 2:38the crisis surrounding foster care in West Virginia. Some folks are planning some events
- 2:42to hopefully help out a little with the problem. And actually there's an event
- 2:46being planned for next Wednesday. I think it is at river Ridge Church at
- 2:49HRC, and it's being held there, but it's being hosted by a group
- 2:53called Chestnut Mountain Village. Greg Clutter is the director of foster care Initiatives at
- 2:58the Chestnut Mountain Village Minister and he joins us via the biggleg Bigley Pigglely Wiggly
- 3:02hot line This morning, Greg, good morning, How are you, sir,
- 3:06Thanks for joining us. Good morning. I am very well, Dad.
- 3:08Thanks so much for having us. Thanks what you do, Thanks for
- 3:10what you do for our community and states. It's an honor to be here.
- 3:14Well, it's not honored to have you here, sir, before we
- 3:16talk about the event next week, in your involvement and the involvement of a
- 3:20lot of other people, this foster care crisis in West Virginia. Greg,
- 3:23just a little background for our listeners this morning. The state of West Virginia
- 3:30has the highest number of kids in the foster care system per capita in the
- 3:35nation. Now think about that, little old West Virginia. We have the
- 3:38highest number, according to the stats, the highest number of kids in the
- 3:42foster care system per capita in the entire nation. Our numbers are three times
- 3:46that of the national average. And I think sometimes Greg, in West Virginia
- 3:52we tend to look down if you wild to the problems of larger cities,
- 3:55you know, the more metropolitan areas, we say, oh that this is
- 3:59we throw out those terms. And I'm as guilt as anybody saying, well,
- 4:01the inner cities or the big cities, the New York, Chicago,
- 4:04whatever, we have much higher numbers when it comes to kids that are in
- 4:08crisis than any of those cities do. How did we get there? Well,
- 4:14I think the biggest contributing factor, no suppress to you or your listeners,
- 4:16has been just the ongoing substance abuse issues and addiction issues we've had not
- 4:24only in West Virginia but throughout Appalachia, and they've caused alarming rates of just
- 4:29breakdowns in families where where primary families are no longer to take no longer able
- 4:34to take care of their own children due to addiction. So it's been something
- 4:41that's been building over the years. You know, if you go back seven
- 4:44years ago, we were about half the number of foster care kids in Totville
- 4:48in West Virginia. But as we saw this opioid addiction crisis get worse and
- 4:54worse, we saw those numbers double over a period of just a few years.
- 4:59And that's that's at the point where the folks at Chestnut Mountain Ranch that
- 5:03we're going to launch something and that's history that we're talking about today to try
- 5:09to find a way to look at this differently and as rested differently. There
- 5:15are just so many kids. It's not a problem that's easily solved. It's
- 5:18not a problem that's easily solved in any community. When you have numbers like
- 5:24West Virginia, it has it's a it's a place where we all need to
- 5:28play a role. And that's when we jumped in and said, we the
- 5:31faith community can play a very unique role here based upon what we're seeing throughout
- 5:38the nation and kind of a movement in the faith community throughout the nation,
- 5:41and we're bringing that. We're bringing that here to West Virginia. One other
- 5:45number, and then I want to get into specifically what you folks in the
- 5:46faith community are trying to do about this. Eighty five percent of the cases
- 5:51in which kids were removed from the home are due in some part to some
- 5:57sort of substance abuse. I mean, and you alluded that at the beginning
- 6:00of the interview, Greg, and these numbers aren't getting any better, Okay,
- 6:03So what is it that the faith community now has planned and what do
- 6:09you hope to do here? So really what we're doing is we're the working
- 6:14to the beilies. We're working to mobilizing, guide and kind of equipped the
- 6:16faith community. When we looked a couple years ago and started to launch this
- 6:21ministry, we started looking at what was going on across the country and there
- 6:26were a few things that we saw. First of all, no one's going
- 6:28to be surprised when you hear me say we have a dearth of foster families.
- 6:31We're always here and that more foster families are needed, more families to
- 6:34care for these kids. If you peel the onion back a little bit day,
- 6:39we just peel back a layer of that that is really a twofold problem.
- 6:43One is we just need to recruit more families. More families need to
- 6:46be in and sign up for the fight. But the second piece of that
- 6:49is just the unbelievable ranks of turnover. If we look at foster families that
- 6:55are recruited, about fifty percent of them within the first year stop fostering.
- 7:00Just think of that, you haven't replaced half of them. Every year.
- 7:04Within two years, eighty percent of them stopped. So it's literally this turnover.
- 7:10Imagine trying to run a business, yes, imagine trying to do that
- 7:15with that kind of turnover. So you're never going to catch up. What
- 7:18we found when we took this, when we took this look across the nation,
- 7:23across the country, which is kind of what's led us to do what
- 7:26we're doing next week. Uh, we looked and found and saw this this
- 7:30trend that when foster families, kinship families, even adopted families, but really
- 7:35when foster families are surrounded by a Christ centered, caring, loving, organized
- 7:43community, those numbers day's completely slipped. It goes from eighty percent of these
- 7:48families stop within two years to ninety percent of them that are that are surrounded
- 7:54by what we call a care community or just any level of care through a
- 7:58church, ninety percent of them still fostering in that into that second year.
- 8:01It completely changes it. So we start addressing first through the church, just
- 8:07finding different ways to help. And we've seen several churches in the shop begin
- 8:13to do this. River Ridge and Tays Valley of course, is one of
- 8:16them, and we're seeing just tremendous impact and strengthening those families so they foster
- 8:22longer and stronger. And then as people in the church starting to being closer
- 8:28to the foster care Christ and learn about it more and more, we see
- 8:33more stepping into fostering as a result. So it ends up also being a
- 8:37great way to really to get people closer to the issue help in a variety
- 8:43of Lady, we're talking with Greg Glutter, get about this big event.
- 8:46Now you mentioned River Ridge Church of church I'm very familiar with in the Tays
- 8:50Valley area of Hurricane You bring it in I think some some pretty heavy hitters
- 8:54to try to address this problem. Talk about that, Yeah, sosolutely.
- 9:00So we're going to spend the day at the All in Foster Care Summit coming
- 9:03up next Wednesday, May third. The summit program kicks off at nine.
- 9:09We're all gonna be focused on two things. One is, how can the
- 9:13church and faith community get more involved in non traditional ways, not just trying
- 9:18to recruit people to foster, but in ways we say this thing, everybody
- 9:22can do something. We think every church can play some role in some small
- 9:26or large way. So we're gonna be focused a lot on that. Second
- 9:31of all, we're going to be focused on how can an entire community collaborate
- 9:35with church, with the church leading and playing a role to solve these problems.
- 9:39So the folks we're bringing in are people that have gone from community community
- 9:45and solve these issues everywhere. Lynn Johnson is on our agenda. Lynn is
- 9:52the former Assistant Secretary for the US Department of Health and Human Services Administrations Administration
- 9:58for Children's Families. She was the highest ranking child welfare official in the nation
- 10:03under the Trump administration. She brings a world of experience and during her tenure
- 10:07she really tried to rally the faith community around this issue of foster care.
- 10:13And she's not only going to share some of her insights of how other places
- 10:16are doing this, but she's gonna be bringing a panel of former foster youth
- 10:20who can talk about the experiences of being in there. We're also bringing Jason
- 10:24Webber, who's the national director of Foster Care Initiatives at the Christian Alliance for
- 10:28Organs. He's also the author of Until There's more Than Enough, Transforming Foster
- 10:33Care Where You Live At, the book that's become kind of a handbook for
- 10:35how the communities plan and work together and collaborate. So Jason's going to be
- 10:41on the agenda and we're also bringing in doctor John Degarma, who's the founder
- 10:46and director of the Foster Care Institute, a Willman speaker on foster care issues.
- 10:50He's also written a couple of books, Face in Foster Care and the
- 10:54Church and Foster Care. So we're bringing in these national leaders who are helping
- 10:58solve these problems everywhere, but we're also bringing in folks from the states who
- 11:03are addressing this issue. So we're gonna have a panel with church leaders who
- 11:07are already already addressing issues and see some of the success they have. We're
- 11:11going to hear from We're gonna hear from the false Scare on Budgeman's office about
- 11:16how can churches help families actually advocate very effectively for the are that are in
- 11:20the system. And we're also going to get a lot of opportunities for these
- 11:24churches for child placing agencies, for people in the state, for others in
- 11:28the community, just to network and share best practices and learn from one another.
- 11:33My goal ultimately is that churches can begin and communities working together and collaboratively
- 11:39so they don't need someone coming in and guiding and equipping and bringing them up.
- 11:43They could begin to share amongst each other. Well, we wish you
- 11:48the best of luck with it. Now, where can people learn more about
- 11:50this? Because you give us a lot of information and I know people who
- 11:52probably need to take a look at a schedule of events and how they can
- 11:56get involved. Where can people learn more? Absolutely, you can go to
- 11:58our website at c m v w V dot org. That c m v
- 12:05w V dot org and you'll see a registration pop up right at the right
- 12:11at the beginning of the website. There. People can register there and see
- 12:13all the all the line up in the seekers, et cetera. And it
- 12:16is all next next Wednesday? Is that right at River Ridge Church in Tays
- 12:20Valley? Work? Yes, Wednesday May third, uh in Tay's Valley and
- 12:26in Tay's Vallet River Ridge Church there Hurricane UH and UH program doors open at
- 12:31eight o'clock. The program will kick off that by encourage people to register soon
- 12:35because it's coming quickly and that is a very big facility there, so I'm
- 12:39sure parking and seating will not be an issue. Hopefully you pack the place
- 12:43out. Hey, Greg, I appreciate you being here. Best to luck
- 12:46Okay, thanks a lot, Thank you so much, and so Greg Clatter,
- 12:50the director of Foster Care Initiatives and UH and also with chest Nut Mountain
- 12:54Village Ministry. And you know, anytime that you start talking about putting religion
- 13:00gen so to speak, to solve problems, I get covered up with negative
- 13:03texts and things of that nature. But here's the thing about it. You
- 13:07gotta have people involved, and you gotta have people willing to do something.
- 13:09And obviously with this foster care crisis, and there's enough blame finger pointing already,
- 13:15got text people, you know, blaming certain you know, blaming the
- 13:16Republican Party for it because you know, this was never a crisis before.
- 13:22You know, it can't hurt. It absolutely positively can't hurt. And we
- 13:26wish them the best with that program. Five Any Live is presented in part

- 17:44correspondent Brad mcalehanny said Brad, good morning, how are you, sir?
- 17:48Well, Hid, I am waiting for baby dogs. That's tomorrow. That's
- 17:52tomorrow. You're waiting on baby dog. Hey. By the way, speaking
- 17:55of animals, we're gonna do something totally different on the show tomorrow. I
- 17:59haven't even told the listener this yet, Brad. I met a guy last
- 18:02week who calls himself the Reptile Guy, and tomorrow he's doing a educational type
- 18:08thing in Putnam County with reptiles tomorrow in the Palmar Store studio. Brad,
- 18:15I got a python coming in. A python. So it's not just your
- 18:19biceps. No, no, it's not. No, it's not those pythons.
- 18:25I have an actual, real life, honest to goodness python and other
- 18:29reptiles in the Palmar Store studio tomorrow. How cool is that? Man?
- 18:33That is cool? Although you might want to, you know, just put
- 18:36a place sign on the door python inside beware. Well, well, you
- 18:41know Chris Lawrence, uh, you know, in his studio is right down
- 18:45from from ours here, and you know that Chris as him as he sees
- 18:48at the face, paint's gonna go on and he's gonna put some kind of
- 18:51python urine behind his ear and he's gonna go in all all full effect hunter
- 18:55mode. So I'll have to tell Lawrence it's coming up. All right,
- 18:56you got a story you put you put up Monday on the website and on
- 19:00social media two where Congressman Alex Mooney, who will square off against the governor
- 19:06all for all intensive purposes in the Senate primary next next year, he referred,
- 19:11And the governor's big announcement is tomorrow. Of course, Mooney referred to
- 19:15the governor as a quote rhino, as a Republican in name only, So
- 19:19let the fireworks begin. Brand Oh man, it hasn't even started. And
- 19:25we do expect Governor Justice to be announcing tomorrow by PM at the Greenborough with
- 19:30his dog that he's going to run for US Senate. That is not exactly
- 19:36a certainty yet, but we've all been told to pay attention at five o'clock
- 19:40tomorrow. So yes, Congressman Mooney is whether the governor's in or not.
- 19:47Congressman Mooney is firing shots. And he called the governor a rhino, a
- 19:51Republican name only, called him a liberal republican, a liberal republican, referred
- 19:56to Justices History as a Democrat, and you know, I mean you can
- 20:03you can see already, but that that's going to be the tone that primary
- 20:07for West Virginia Republican voters and independence is truly going to have a contrast.
- 20:14You're gonna have a choice. And you know, the specific issues that the
- 20:18Congressman Mooney seems to be referring to is governor justices embrace of the federal infrastructure
- 20:26bill, which Congressman Mooney calls, I forget what a disinfrastructure bill or a
- 20:33non infrastructure bill or something. Um, the the approach to COVID, which
- 20:40the governor has you know, taken pride in and uh, you know,
- 20:44sort of staked his reputation on. He would he would call it a cautious
- 20:48approach. But but I think that's going to come up to, you know,
- 20:51we're we're we're the lockdowns too widespread? Should they have happened at all?
- 20:56I think Congressman Mooney is prepared to raise those issues and then he's gonna
- 21:00knock him around about the amendment to stuff, which was not a Congressional issue.
- 21:04It was a state issue. But you know, the governor's view was
- 21:11the amendment to which would have allowed which would have allowed via the Constitution the
- 21:18legislature to change personal property tackgrates vote for individuals and for businesses. It would
- 21:25have been a tax cut of a kind. Uh. Congressimoney, isna is
- 21:30gonna you know, knock him around about that too, to say, you
- 21:32know you were you went around the states opposing a tax cut, and I
- 21:37don't think it's gonna have the subtleties that you and I are well aversed in.
- 21:41But the governor preferred an income tax cut. I think it's just going
- 21:44to be you were against amendment too. Yeah, I think that I think
- 21:47you're right about that. So, Brad, I talked about this yesterday and
- 21:49I was told by someone very close to the fray within the Republican Party that
- 21:53there was that person's words as of yesterday morning. A lot has changed or
- 21:59could change, you know, between now and then. Direct quote an eighty
- 22:03five percent chance that former President Trump would be at the Greenbrier tomorrow now,
- 22:08um nothing perhaps more than mere speculation. I have no idea whether he'll be
- 22:15there in person, whether he'll be there on video or maybe not at all.
- 22:19Congress from Mooney, Uh, in your piece that you did on Monday,
- 22:23is hoping for an endorsement from the former president. You may agree or
- 22:29disagree. I'll be honest with you. I really don't see that happening,
- 22:33do you. Brad No, and Cumbersomoney sort of couched to ask couches one
- 22:41ask, ask ask, Okay, I gotta go ahead, Red, go
- 22:45ahead, Bred, don't get me fired. Go ahead. There's a lot
- 22:48of that firing listeners, a lot of that firing stuff in the media going
- 22:51on right now. So I'd like to I'd like to keep this job safe.
- 22:53But go ahead, careful, be careful. There's a good guy everyone.
- 23:00So Mooney got a Trump endorsement last spring when it was that combined district
- 23:10race against his fellow Republican Deva became for Congress. He got a Trump endorsement
- 23:15and used it to great effect. Now Trump goes way back with Justice.
- 23:19In addition to being political figures. They have, you know, hospitality holdings,
- 23:26and they've got a lot in common. Justice is very friendly with Trump
- 23:30and has made that pretty clear. And and Don Don Junior has actually gone
- 23:33gone hunting with the governor. I understand. I think they've gone python hunting.
- 23:37Yes, well, well come here tomorrow and do that. But go
- 23:40ahead, Yeah, they've they've taken their mongooses out and gone gone python hunting.
- 23:47So Mooney is, Mooney hopes for a Trump endorsement. And I can
- 23:52imagine the governor does too. But what he did say was he couched his
- 23:57ask. But he you know, he really if he can't get an endorsement
- 24:04Mooney, he hopes that the president, the former president, will just stay
- 24:08out of it. About I mean, and I think and I mentioned this,
- 24:12actually, Brad, I think that's about the best the Mooney can hope
- 24:15for at this point. Yeah, and you know that may be a smart
- 24:18political play. Mooney is. Justice is tough, but it's a Republican primary.
- 24:26It could be the most enthusiastic Republican voters who come out. Mooney has
- 24:33won that congressional seat five times. He is not an easy owl. No,
- 24:37not at all. And if you're Trump, I mean, why politically,
- 24:42why why weighed in and endorse one or the other? If you at
- 24:47all think if your calculation might be, well, you know, I might
- 24:51not pick the right horse. There may be somebody else coming out of this.
- 24:55Why not politically just wait and see the president doesn't ask me for his
- 25:00advice. And uh, I wouldn't expect for him to listen to me.
- 25:03Well, and here's the thing, Brad, anywhere but West Virginia, a
- 25:08Trump endorsement is not necessarily a good thing. I mean, look what happened
- 25:11last year, you know, But in West Virginia, you know, we're
- 25:15a little bit different. In West Virginia, that Trump endorsement still means that.
- 25:18It didn't mean a heck of a lot last year. It actually was
- 25:19the death knell for some, for some in other states, but in West
- 25:23Virginia and still firmly behind Donald Trump, the former president. And that's what
- 25:29we saw in the ad campaigns with a lot of candidates last time around,
- 25:33was it was a battle who could be the trumpiest? You know. No,
- 25:37no, he loves me more. No, he loves me more.
- 25:40No, he loves me more, you know. And and I think that's
- 25:42that's that that may be, you know, kind of where we are speaking
- 25:45of advertising, Brad Uh in your story from Monday, you alluded to a
- 25:49pole that was done by the firm National Public Affairs, which tends to lend
- 25:55lean a little Trump in that poll, Uh that had Justice a fifty five
- 26:00percent and Mooney with twenty four percent, and twenty one percent undecided. I
- 26:03bring up the term advertising because one of the things that's going to be brought
- 26:08out, one of the many things, especially when you have the packs that
- 26:12come in here and they send their money in and so on and so forth,
- 26:15is going to be the financial issues of the governor. And in West
- 26:19Virginia, you know, Justice is what third or fourth most popular governor in
- 26:22the entire nation. It doesn't seem to matter here. West Virginians know the
- 26:27issues of Jim Justice and they don't care. They still love the guy,
- 26:30They still love baby dog, the whole thing. When this goes national,
- 26:34and if Jim Justice does indeed run for Senate, which we all think he's
- 26:37going to, that is going to be brought out times a thousand by not
- 26:45not just Mooney, not just potentially Senator Mansion if he's the opponent, if
- 26:48he decides to run, but by these packs that are going to come in.
- 26:52They are not going to let this stuff just go by the wayside like
- 26:56West Virginians has done. Brad your take, I think particularly the national media
- 27:00might put that under scrutiny because the Senate is so evenly divided and Mansion has
- 27:07been you know, the lynchpin the deciding vote on so many but this race
- 27:12potentially to take on Mansion, maybe even to beat him, is going to
- 27:15get a lot of attention nationally, and the justice financial stories are not completely
- 27:22new to the national media, but I think will be in the spotlight more
- 27:29than it has been. Um Mooney has significant backing already from the right wing
- 27:36Club for Growth. They're talking about putting up ten million dollars or so,
- 27:40so he can you know, he's got the money for messages. We'll take
- 27:42it, by the way, well, we'll take it here w VRC media,
- 27:45we'll take Yeah. If our advertising staff is listening, have fun,
- 27:48guys. Yeah, I mean you can hear those ads already. They're already
- 27:53running here. Yeah, and other places as well. But go ahead.
- 27:56Mooney's message so far has not been a criticism of the governor's personal finances,
- 28:03though it has been that he's got a liberal record. He was a Democrat.
- 28:07Uh and maybe that's a shrewder political bet in a in a Republican primary.
- 28:12It is. I hadn't thought about it that way till you brought it
- 28:15up, But yeah, I would agree with that because because West Virginia,
- 28:18again we've proven in this state. We don't care about the governor's problem.
- 28:22Mean, he was elected to begin with with a When I say rap sheet,
- 28:26I don't mean that literally, but I mean he but he was elected
- 28:29to begin with with all of these people saying they've had all these issues with
- 28:32the governor in his business issues over the years, and West Virginia didn't care.
- 28:37But you start throwing around that term rhino and you start linking him to
- 28:41to to Biden and infrastructure bills and all that that you may and be honest,
- 28:45something Brad from the pr guy and me comes out and says, yeah,
- 28:48that's that that's probably a better approach. But go ahead. Yeah,
- 28:52I think that's where the contrast is. And it's you know where we are
- 28:59in political moment. It's it's probably about a minute until Jim Justice starts being
- 29:03called woke. But you know, the governor does have he's got financial issues
- 29:10they have They've come up again. Um, his his longtime banker, Carter
- 29:17Bank of Virginia was asking for three hundred million dollars in guaranteed returns on loans.
- 29:25He was just Justice Holdings was just in the state Supreme Court yesterday over
- 29:30a six million dollars dispute with homeowners at Glade Springs, So they are there
- 29:38remains a steady flow of financial issues with justice, but do they are they
- 29:45counteracted by the ethics concerns about Mooney claiming stops at Chick fil A, as
- 29:52as campaign stops being reimbursed for vacation by the very company that he uses for
- 30:00much of his campaign advertising spending. So Mooney's got issues too, And as
- 30:07a as an outside observer, do I think are those going to cancel out
- 30:11in the public mind? And then you know, Mansion on the other end
- 30:15gets knocked around about his gobpile, his own business holdings. There's a lot
- 30:22of national coverage of those issues. And again in the public's mind, when
- 30:29you're being besieged by the kinds of ads that you described, ads that were
- 30:33welcome. By the way, Yeah, eleven eleven Virginia Streets, Charleston,
- 30:37if you'd like to schedule an appointment, but go ahead, check at the
- 30:38front desk, right right, Dave in the memo line, yes please.
- 30:44But in the public's mind, I mean, these things kind of even out
- 30:47are You're like, oh my gosh, you know, all of them have
- 30:48got their issues, and I wonder if that's where it might go. Well,
- 30:53um, we'll close with this, Brad and you we talked a little
- 30:56bit about to Senator Mansion. We still don't know what he's going to do.
- 31:00And he was on one of the talk shows over the weekend. I
- 31:03didn't actually see that he was on. He was on Hannity. That's right.
- 31:06I forgot he was on Hannity the other night. And and you know
- 31:11a lot of people made I read some national fodder about people. You know,
- 31:15the Democratic Party is not exactly and I'm talking about on the national level,
- 31:18not exactly enamored with Joe Mansion. At this point. There's talk that
- 31:21maybe he may make a run for president, kind of a no labels kind
- 31:25of a thing. I will say this that if Jim Justice comes out of
- 31:30the primary as the victor over Alex Mooney, and if that is indeed what
- 31:33happens, I do think that's what happens. I think Justice wins that and
- 31:37he goes up against Mansion. Again. It's all about the money. Go
- 31:41back to the money. You think there might be a little money spent here
- 31:44in West Virginia on that race, just a little Oh my gosh, I
- 31:48mean you know Justice is already being backed by Miss McConnell, the Senate minority
- 31:53leader, and the political action committee surrounding McConnell, So there's there's money there,
- 32:01and Mansion already has political action committees spending on his bath already, whether
- 32:07he's running or not. He says he's going to announce in December what he's
- 32:10doing, but that has already begun coming to the defensive Mansion. So yeah,
- 32:16it's gonna be it's gonna be major potentially. Yeah, Brad, it's
- 32:22always a pleasure. We will talk soon. We'll be reading your stuff on
- 32:24the websites and also on all the social media's thanks a lot, and we're
- 32:28just happy to have jobs at this point, right, I mean, with
- 32:30what's going on in the media right now, Brad and I are still here,
- 32:32Hoppy's still here. Well, hopefully we're not going anywhere for while.
- 32:36Hopefully I hope we did not cross the line. I just to annunciate,

- 35:55How are you all doing great? Glad we got our schedule, announced it
- 36:00out yesterday. We're ready to rock and roll this summer. And I know
- 36:01you have an appointment to get to a ten o'clock so I'm not going to
- 36:05keep you on here very long, but I have to. I gotta throw
- 36:07this out there though, because you guys always take a lot of crap when
- 36:09the weather is bad. But I gotta give you credit. It's been a
- 36:12little cool as of late, but overall not a bad spring weatherwise. Good
- 36:16job do you and Spencer and the team there. Well, thank you very
- 36:20much. I don't complain tomorrow afternoon when the rain moves in. All right,
- 36:24you're not responsible. We'll blame that on Spencer, Okay, all right,
- 36:28all right, So big announcement yesterday. It's slack plaza and you just
- 36:30keep adding to the stuff going on with Regatta. We already to do about
- 36:34the musical stuff. You've added everything else. Tell us just some of it
- 36:37was announced yesterday, Brian. Well, we you know we're wanting to you
- 36:42know, fine tune things make the schedule more conducive to everybody being able to
- 36:46attend almost every event. So that's kind of what we did, especially you
- 36:50know, Saturday is a really big day for events happening Sunday as well,
- 36:54So what we did was we wanted to place events and separate them and so
- 37:00that friends, at the ten am you can make it to the Weener dog
- 37:04Race. A Weiner dog race is gonna last nut an hour and a half,
- 37:07almost two hours down at Magic Island. Then we have the fire truck
- 37:10parade at noon, and then you go to uh, you know, you
- 37:14go on to the one thirty funeral Parade. You know that goes on all
- 37:19the way up until the uh you know, the Slight Plaza, Slamburry,
- 37:23the championship wrestling and who didn't got a belt that we're gonna have, you
- 37:27know, get you wrestled to the to the win essentially to become the champions.
- 37:30So what we've done is we've space all these events out throughout Saturday and
- 37:35Sunday of course the rest of the time as well, so that you can
- 37:37attend the different events and easily get there without having a you know, rush
- 37:44from here and there because we we found that out last year. Oh yep,
- 37:46we did this that was a little too closed, that's a little too
- 37:50tight. So that that's what we're doing this year. Too much stuff in
- 37:52a small amount of time hopefully. But you know, again, it's first
- 37:54time that you've done a regatta in several years, and certainly the folks that
- 37:58were on the regatta committee I would think for the most part, weren't part
- 38:00of the last one. So it's a work in progress. I mean,
- 38:04that's the thing about this. And did it go everything go one hundred percent
- 38:07perfectly last year? No? But what we'll go one perfectly this year?
- 38:10No, because that's that's the nature of a live event. But you listen
- 38:15to the people and you're adding and maybe doing away some things that weren't as
- 38:17popular and adding more things than popular. What are some of the new things
- 38:21this year? I know there was wrestling last year, but not like it's
- 38:23going to be this year. With the championship belt going to the winner of
- 38:27the regatta championship, you got that, But what are some of the other
- 38:30new things. Well, we're you know, we're bringing back the rubber duck
- 38:34race in with the regatta where it used to be, where everybody wanted it
- 38:37to be. And we're happy to bring Day in into the fold with United
- 38:43Way, you know, doing the fundraising there. You know, we also
- 38:46go back down to the health plans, Magic Island and Kids Zone and what
- 38:51we got think we've got a big We've got a big foam at parties that's
- 38:54going to happen down there for the kids. And when I say poem,
- 38:57I mean we're covering Canal Bull of our with foam and foam machines. We're
- 39:01gonna do that. That's going to be fun. You you've just got to
- 39:06you know, you've got to be inventive about you know, where your budget
- 39:08is, how you're gonna be able to do things. We're gonna have a
- 39:10BMX exhibition on Sunday down at the skate park. But you know, after
- 39:16you do the rebroducts, you've also got then the certain wild boat races.
- 39:21You know, certain Wilver got our boat races. So you've got those on
- 39:24Friday and excuse me, you've got that on Sunday. But we also have
- 39:29the Wheelwah Beer Festive. I don't know if you remember that last year Day
- 39:31that was on third that we did on Thursday last year. Of course,
- 39:34of the event starts this year on Friday, so we're actually moving that over
- 39:37to Capitol Street because at the end of Capitol Street, the closest to the
- 39:42river, we've got a massive JumboTron, so you can go over there,
- 39:45relax and enjoy that, and you know, you can be there for the
- 39:51Wheelwah Beer Festival. We've got craft craft brew that is going to be I
- 39:55think I see is in twelve thirty almost forty different craft brew beers that you'll
- 40:00be able to sample. So you know, we've shifted some things around,
- 40:05we've moved some things, we've fine tunes of things, and it's going to
- 40:07be great. And plus we've moved the stage back by more than forty feet
- 40:13to accommodate more people in that area so they can have a good time get
- 40:16up close. Yeah. Absolutely. We're talking to Brian Hughes from storm Track
- 40:20at thirteen and also on the regatta committee, and you know, Brian,
- 40:24last year it was such a huge success. It was bigger, I think,
- 40:28and better than anybody thought it was going to be. And we hope
- 40:31that and I know that it's going to be a bigger and better this year
- 40:35as well. And I know you threw out a lot of information you did
- 40:37yesterday with the mayor. It's like plause and everything. As we get closer,
- 40:40we're gonna have you on, you know a lot. We had the
- 40:43mayor on other folks from the city on to talk about it. But in
- 40:45the meantime, I do want to kind of direct people over to our website.
- 40:47Kat Skelton did a great story. It's on wv Metro News dot com
- 40:51and it's also available on all your guy's pages and social media and so on
- 40:54and so forth. So great stuff yesterday, Brian, and I know you
- 40:59gotta go, So we we'll talk soon and we'll be updating everybody with what's
- 41:01going on. Thanks a lot, man. Hey, we're doing our best.
- 41:05We're gonna streamlined this thing. And by the way, just remind people,
- 41:07just real quick listen who KRT is going to provide bus routes so you
- 41:13can park it over there at you know, over there at Patrick's Suet Plaza
- 41:15and then get bused in great idea, or you can do it over there
- 41:20at Lady Field and we'll bust you in. Kart is doing a great,
- 41:22great thing being able to and also you can be picked up along the way
- 41:25on the bus route, so really get people in and out real easy.
- 41:29All right, that's the plan. All right, Brian, we'll talk soon,
- 41:30man. Thanks a lot. Thank you, Brian Hughes again from a
- 41:34WWK stormtrack of thirteen weather and also one of the big members of the regatta
- 41:38committee as well. And you know, I was just perusing social media last
- 41:44night and I saw someone on and I realize not everybody likes the same things.
- 41:51Okay, I get that one percent, But I did see somebody in
- 41:53one of the local news media social media saying who cares about regatta? Well,
- 41:59and that is certainly that person's right to come or to stay away or
- 42:01whatever that they want to do. But around two hundred and ten thousand people
- 42:06did care last year, to the tune of about three point one million dollars
- 42:13that was brought into the city last year. That is nothing. Just needs
- 42:16that. It was huge, It really was. It was a smashing success.
- 42:22The dates again are June thirtieth through July fourth, and I know a
- 42:25lot of people are saying it should be Labor Day weekend. It should be
- 42:28Labor Day weekend, and we talked about that last year, and again I'm
- 42:31gonna have Brian and the mayor and a lots of these folks on from the
- 42:35regard of plenty of times between now and regarded time in June thirtieth. But
- 42:38the reason it's not being held around Labor Day weekend, there are actually several
- 42:42reasons. Number one, the availability of the stern wheelers. That's a big
- 42:45part of it. And plus you have to remember, unlike when you and
- 42:50I were in school, school starts in most areas like the middle of August,
- 42:54and so having the kids there is a big part of it, and
- 43:00you know things, there's activities going on on what would be school nights,
- 43:07you know, So so keep that in mind. Again, you're not going
- 43:08to please everybody, but I think Brian and folks to a fantastic job with
- 43:12that. And we'll be talking to Brian and others involved with the regatta as
- 43:15we get a little bit closer. Got some text to get two plus some

- 46:25good point, and I saved it today. Text says Mooney wins because he
- 46:30chooses his voters, not the other way. That's it took me a minute.
- 46:35That came at the end of the show yesterday and I stared at it
- 46:38at the screen for like about, you know, twenty seconds afterwards, I
- 46:42thought, ah, I get it. Mooney wins because he chooses his voters
- 46:47and not the other way. According to a texture, Texas low workforce participation,
- 46:54high levels of foster kids sounds like the West Virginia is ready for child
- 46:59labor, says the text. I don't know about that. This opinion strike

- 47:15one seventy five president Ken Hall told Jared that the decision was made late last
- 47:19night to keep working out of respect for Coach's customers. So now the workers
- 47:24are at basically going without a contract. So I don't know if you'll actually
- 47:28see picket lines when you go to your local Sheets, and I say Sheets,
- 47:32because this dispute follow is following a deal with Sheets, where as best
- 47:37I understand it, where they would have coke delivered directly to their warehouses and
- 47:44then having their employees that's Sheets employees to then deliver the product, cutting off
- 47:49the coke drivers. That seems to be one of the major sticking points in
- 47:51the negotiations. We're watching it closely, and of course you can follow the

- 47:58com didn't as mentioned this that's kind of at the close of the show yesterday,
- 48:01but President Biden made it official via video yesterday morning. I mean,
- 48:07come on, you didn't actually think he was going to do anything live,
- 48:10did you. The President is running for reelection, and my thoughts and my
- 48:17thoughts alone, this is not going to be pretty Now, as many people
- 48:22have pointed out, the president got a gift, as bad as that sounds
- 48:27to say that he got a gift with COVID in twenty twenty because he didn't
- 48:31actually have to campaign and to actually go out and meet people and stuff.
- 48:38Well, he's gonna have to do that now. And frankly, I fear,
- 48:47just because I'm a somewhat decent human being, I fear it's going to
- 48:52be embarrassing for the president, because I mean, there is no way and
- 48:59I'm going to say this as nicely as I can, and please don't hit
- 49:02me with the what about is on? What about Trump? What about Reagan?
- 49:05In the second time, I'm not talking about any of those folks talking
- 49:07about President Joseph Biden at this point, by his own admission, he called
- 49:15himself a gaff machine. That's what he called himself. And when you put
- 49:22President Joe Biden out there in a traditional campaign, which is what it's going
- 49:29to take, unless heaven forbid, we have another another pandemic, I don't
- 49:37know what that's going to look like because he's going to have to actually face
- 49:43people, He's going to actually have to do the things that presidential candidates do
- 49:47going to coffee shops and shaking hands and meeting people that aren't necessarily friendly to
- 49:53you or maybe that have questions you're not ready for when you do these style
- 50:00in little towns in West Virginia or Vermont or wherever, whatever the case may
- 50:05be. And I don't know that. I don't know what he's up to
- 50:08him And you got I was listening to Hoppy as I was driving yesterday and
- 50:13somebody accused Hoppy of agism. Well, I don't know if it's agism or
- 50:15it's realism. I mean, that's the fact. There's no in my opinion,
- 50:21there is no way that anybody can listen to a speech when he gives
- 50:27them that President Biden, when I'm saying this with all due respect, does
- 50:31and think that the guy is all here. I really don't think that.
- 50:38And it's going to be exposed. And regardless, I don't care what your
- 50:43political ideology is. I know a heck of a lot of Democrats right now
- 50:45that are not happy that Joe Biden is going to be the nominal. Matter
- 50:50of fact, there's all these polls up there. You can look him up
- 50:52for yourself. The majority of people, the majority of people who voted for
- 50:55Joe Biden in twenty twenty. Don't want him to run again, and obviously
- 51:01that's mainly from his own party. Read the room, man. And on
- 51:09the Republican side, there are a lot, and I'll close with this,
- 51:13there are a lot of Republicans who aren't exactly enamored with the fact that Donald
- 51:15Trump is going to run. You're listening to one right now. As a
- 51:19matter of fact, a nation of three hundred and fifty million, billion million,
- 51:22I'm sorry, million people and Biden Trump are the best we can do.
