- 1:41Speaker 1: It's the Bootleg Cap Podcast. Are your Bootleg Cap podcast? Man?
- 1:45Speaker 1: We're in New York City in a hotel room setting
- 1:49Speaker 1: up shot. Man. Chris Brickley is here, and thanks for
- 1:52Speaker 1: having me. I've watched so many interviews over the years,
- 1:54Speaker 1: so this is kind of cool to be he It's
- 1:56Speaker 1: cool to talk to you. It's crazy because I was
- 1:58Speaker 1: already kind of hip to who you are. Were like
- 2:00Speaker 1: I would see you on like because I follow a
- 2:02Speaker 1: lot of just these hoop pages you know, but what
- 2:06Speaker 1: really kind of had me like dive into two years ago, right,
- 2:11Speaker 1: two three years ago? It was a while ago. Yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 1: and and your come up man was so like inspirational
- 2:18Speaker 1: for people because you were you was it you were
- 2:21Speaker 1: homeless for a second or was it? Like because I
- 2:24Speaker 1: think I remember, like, I mean, it's been since then
- 2:26Speaker 1: since it came out that I remember watching it, but
- 2:27Speaker 1: I remember like just hearing about like how you got
- 2:31Speaker 1: like you were going to college, right, yep, give us
- 2:34Speaker 1: give kind of refresh on your come up man. Yes.
- 2:37Speaker 1: So you know, I grew up in New Hampshire, small
- 2:39Speaker 1: in New Hampshire. You ever been in New Hampshire? I
- 2:42Speaker 1: might have? No, No, I haven't. Yeah. Yeah, So grew
- 2:46Speaker 1: up in New Hampshire. Uh. You know, I played basketball,
- 2:48Speaker 1: was really good, top one hundred in the country, and
- 2:50Speaker 1: then ended up going to Louisville as a walk on.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So I played a little bit. But I know I
- 2:55Speaker 1: wasn't going to the NBA coach. Patino's the coach I
- 2:57Speaker 1: was gonna ask that Patino years Yeah, okay, so he
- 3:00Speaker 1: has a huge coaching tree, so I'm like, I'm gonna
- 3:02Speaker 1: gett into coaching. So you know, I was the youngest
- 3:04Speaker 1: Division one assistant coach in the country. You know, I
- 3:07Speaker 1: did the coaching thing. Uh was with the Knicks player
- 3:12Speaker 1: development youngest NBA player development brist coach. No. So once
- 3:16Speaker 1: I left louisvill I was a j O miss That
- 3:18Speaker 1: was my first stop. Then I was the youngest Division
- 3:21Speaker 1: one assistant coach in the country. I fairly Dickinson, New Jersey,
- 3:24Speaker 1: and then I lay in the NIXT job. I was
- 3:27Speaker 1: the youngest player development director. But like all these jobs,
- 3:30Speaker 1: like in coaching, you don't make money like that. You know,
- 3:32Speaker 1: even when I was with the Knicks, you make like
- 3:34Speaker 1: sixty thousand. You live in New York. You cut that
- 3:36Speaker 1: in half. That's yeah. So you know I did that
- 3:38Speaker 1: for like four years, built a bunch of relationships, and
- 3:42Speaker 1: then I, uh, I was like, you know what, I'm
- 3:44Speaker 1: gonna start my own business. But I didn't really know
- 3:46Speaker 1: exactly like how I was gonna do it. And then
- 3:49Speaker 1: that summer was I think the summer you're talking about.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I you know, I went through a little period where
- 3:53Speaker 1: I didn't I didn't have a place to stay, so
- 3:57Speaker 1: I was just like maxed out all my credit cards.
- 3:59Speaker 1: It was bad. I was like I muldn't have left
- 4:00Speaker 1: the next because I had two more years left in
- 4:02Speaker 1: the contract. Believe in myself though, and it's worked out. Yeah,
- 4:06Speaker 1: a lot of people wouldn't have voluntarily left the job
- 4:10Speaker 1: with the Knicks. Not for sure. My family wasn't happy. Yeah,
- 4:14Speaker 1: So talk about that summer and you leave. What was
- 4:18Speaker 1: like the you know, because anytime I feel like anyone
- 4:20Speaker 1: ever takes a chance on themselves, there's a breaking point
- 4:23Speaker 1: where you're like, damn, did I make a mistake or
- 4:26Speaker 1: you know, before things start going the right way. What
- 4:29Speaker 1: was that low point for you during that period? Yeah? So,
- 4:32Speaker 1: you know, so I left because me and Kamala Anthony
- 4:34Speaker 1: were super close. So I'm like, all right, So the
- 4:36Speaker 1: last four summers, I'd meet Lebron, I met Katie, I
- 4:39Speaker 1: met James, I met Ross, so I kind of knew him.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I didn't have relationships with them, but I knew him.
- 4:44Speaker 1: So I'm like, God, if I leave the Knicks, I
- 4:45Speaker 1: think I could like start a training business. Uh. You know,
- 4:49Speaker 1: So I left the job as health insurance. You know,
- 4:50Speaker 1: it's the whole You're leaving a job, a good job.
- 4:54Speaker 1: So I left, and then I'm thinking, like right off
- 4:56Speaker 1: the bat, I'm gonna be able to Lebron's is gonna
- 4:59Speaker 1: come to my gym and k and didn't work like
- 5:01Speaker 1: that right after bat. You know, it took a minute.
- 5:03Speaker 1: It took a little bit, and uh so you know,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I think, like a few months in middle of the summer,
- 5:09Speaker 1: I'm like, damn, I don't know if I made the
- 5:11Speaker 1: right decision, Like I really don't know if I wasn't
- 5:14Speaker 1: making any money. Uh it was, it was. It was
- 5:16Speaker 1: a struggle. And then that was when I came up
- 5:18Speaker 1: with Black Ops and I started doing these five on
- 5:20Speaker 1: five games, and then that kind of like changed my life.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I you know, put together these pickup games that arguably,
- 5:27Speaker 1: you know, some of the greatest pickup games ever. Yeah,
- 5:29Speaker 1: get kind of let me know what like with the
- 5:31Speaker 1: Black Ops thing, with the five or five pickup games
- 5:33Speaker 1: kind of good. So Black Ops is like my business.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I work up elead NBA guys and I do these
- 5:39Speaker 1: five on five runs in the summer. So Lebron comes through, Katie.
- 5:42Speaker 1: You know, I've had like twenty five All Stars. I've
- 5:44Speaker 1: had uh the last seven m vps. Like everyone comes
- 5:48Speaker 1: through and it's exclusive. It's dope. Media. The media loves
- 5:53Speaker 1: it and Uh yeah, so yeah, so I guess that's
- 5:57Speaker 1: kind of a for people who don't know you're the
- 6:00Speaker 1: you were like the IT trainer in basketball, you know
- 6:04Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Yeah, I mean I guess I guess
- 6:06Speaker 1: it's you know, as you know, when you're in it,
- 6:07Speaker 1: you don't think that, but for sure, Yeah, I think
- 6:11Speaker 1: what some people don't understand is like if you're Lebron,
- 6:15Speaker 1: if you're Mellow, because I always remember seeing Melow was
- 6:17Speaker 1: in with you heavy when he wasn't like back in
- 6:20Speaker 1: the league yet you know, and you have you know,
- 6:24Speaker 1: especially if you're on an NBA roster, right, Like there's
- 6:27Speaker 1: coaches on those rosters. You were one of them, right,
- 6:31Speaker 1: why go to you? Yeah, I mean that's that's a
- 6:35Speaker 1: good question. You know, I study the game. I just
- 6:39Speaker 1: I know the game and I know how to understand people.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I know what motivates James and I know what motivates Mellow,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and you know, you need to figure that out. Otherwise
- 6:49Speaker 1: they're not going to talk to you. You could, you
- 6:50Speaker 1: could try to coach them. It's gonna go in one
- 6:52Speaker 1: area out the other. So you need to build a
- 6:54Speaker 1: relationship with them. You need to study the game and uh,
- 6:57Speaker 1: you know at this point, now I have like such
- 6:58Speaker 1: a big name within basketball, I can almost like work
- 7:02Speaker 1: with who I want, which is like a super blessing.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I try and like super thankful because just three years ago,
- 7:09Speaker 1: I was hoping I could get just three guys a
- 7:11Speaker 1: day type stuff. So life's really changed. It's a and
- 7:15Speaker 1: then you know, it's the first train ever to be
- 7:17Speaker 1: an NBA two K. So I'm my own character, yep,
- 7:20Speaker 1: first trainers, not a sneaker deal, just doing things that
- 7:22Speaker 1: trainers have never done. Just trying to like inspire kids
- 7:25Speaker 1: that if you don't make the NBA, you could be
- 7:27Speaker 1: like me. Yeah, cause you know, I think like people
- 7:31Speaker 1: don't understand like the full grind of getting to the NBA,
- 7:35Speaker 1: like just because you didn't make it to the league.
- 7:37Speaker 1: And you know, we think about this with coaches too, right,
- 7:39Speaker 1: Like a lot of coaches like may not have even
- 7:43Speaker 1: been great in the NBA, you know what I mean. Sure,
- 7:46Speaker 1: but that doesn't mean that you don't know the game.
- 7:50Speaker 1: That doesn't mean that you don't know like the technique,
- 7:52Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Like for the disconnect, for
- 7:54Speaker 1: people who are watching this, they're like, yo, why why
- 7:56Speaker 1: the fuck would Lebron, James go train with this white boy,
- 7:58Speaker 1: like you know what I mean, like talk about the
- 8:01Speaker 1: skill set that you bring to the table, Like, what
- 8:02Speaker 1: are you helping these guys work on? Yeah, so I
- 8:05Speaker 1: guess one of my specialties is so you know, Mellow
- 8:07Speaker 1: has great footwork, right, So when I was with the Knicks,
- 8:10Speaker 1: I started learning this footwork and then guys would come
- 8:13Speaker 1: to me being like, I want some of Mellow's foot work.
- 8:14Speaker 1: So got Kawhi, Leonard, got Katie, I got you know.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So I specialized like in that mid post area just
- 8:21Speaker 1: with like footwork moves, and then you know, working with James,
- 8:25Speaker 1: I kind of learned a whole another. So when you
- 8:27Speaker 1: work with like these super superstars, I'm learning from them
- 8:30Speaker 1: and they're learning from me. It's like a two way street.
- 8:33Speaker 1: So then when I work with like the regular NBA guy,
- 8:35Speaker 1: I have so much knowledge that I can it really helps.
- 8:38Speaker 1: But with the superstars, we're both learning from each other.
- 8:41Speaker 1: With James Harden, like, he's somebody who I've been following
- 8:45Speaker 1: since college when he was at ASU, and I love
- 8:49Speaker 1: watching James hard and play. Now there's some people who
- 8:51Speaker 1: hate watching James Harden. I would say that he's probably
- 8:54Speaker 1: one of the most polarizing guys in the league. It's
- 8:56Speaker 1: like him and Westbrook for sure. Like when you want
- 9:00Speaker 1: the sports TV shows, they either love him or they
- 9:02Speaker 1: hate him. It's actually changed the game, like just the
- 9:04Speaker 1: way he plays off the bounce, you know. So so
- 9:08Speaker 1: what the haters say, Oh, you know, he dribbles too much,
- 9:11Speaker 1: he travels, he you know, but really he's he's been
- 9:16Speaker 1: extremely creative and uh, he's kind of revolutionizing the game
- 9:20Speaker 1: as far as having to playoff the bounce. No one
- 9:22Speaker 1: can stop him. Well, yeah, that that that step back
- 9:24Speaker 1: is something that everyone mimics now exactly. Yeah, was that
- 9:28Speaker 1: something that like you would notice when you were like
- 9:30Speaker 1: training with him or you'd be like, like, did you
- 9:32Speaker 1: like help him fine tune that a bit? Not so.
- 9:35Speaker 1: So what he's big on in the workouts is he
- 9:37Speaker 1: likes to He's like, all right, Chris, just throw me
- 9:40Speaker 1: like he wants me to give him like super hard moves,
- 9:44Speaker 1: like like instead of doing working on one move, it
- 9:47Speaker 1: will be like four moves at once. So he his
- 9:49Speaker 1: his big thing is like, just try and challenge me
- 9:52Speaker 1: as much as possible with the ball. So once the
- 9:53Speaker 1: game comes and one man in front of me, doing
- 9:56Speaker 1: one move is easy. So you know, I think James
- 10:00Speaker 1: could be m VP in my opinion this year. Yeah. Yeah,
- 10:03Speaker 1: well listen man, oh and b got injured and I
- 10:06Speaker 1: think he was probably the favorite Lebron's out. He was
- 10:10Speaker 1: probably the second guy. Yeah, and I think now it's
- 10:12Speaker 1: either Harden or Jokic. Yeah yeah, Yokic is nice. Jokic
- 10:17Speaker 1: is a beast. Yeah. Or you know, if they'll stop
- 10:21Speaker 1: hating on my Phoenix suns, you know, give Chris Paul
- 10:24Speaker 1: and Devin Booker a look, is what I'm saying. You're
- 10:25Speaker 1: playing good. They are, man, they are good. Yeah. Out
- 10:29Speaker 1: of everybody you've trained, Like, who would you consider to
- 10:32Speaker 1: be like your closest friend, Like someone who like you know,
- 10:36Speaker 1: because some people you know, you work with them, their associates.
- 10:39Speaker 1: It's all love. But like when the training stops, it's
- 10:41Speaker 1: like see you next time. Then you have friends, you
- 10:43Speaker 1: know what I mean. Yeah, I would have to say
- 10:45Speaker 1: it's like a mix. I would say, you know Mello, Donovan, Mitchell, Dangelo,
- 10:49Speaker 1: Russell j R. Smith. I would say those guys with Mellow,
- 10:55Speaker 1: you were training with him a lot. A lot of
- 10:57Speaker 1: videos were like coming up on my timeline. When he
- 10:59Speaker 1: wasn't not on a roster, when everyone was counting him
- 11:02Speaker 1: out for sure, and that was obviously a huge mistake.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Yeah it was. Man. I won the Breakfast Club one
- 11:08Speaker 1: time and I said, I think Mellow. This is when
- 11:13Speaker 1: he wasn't an NBA. I said, I think that Melo's
- 11:15Speaker 1: better than sixty percent of the NBA right now. The
- 11:18Speaker 1: media like destroyed me. I thought I was canceled, And
- 11:22Speaker 1: four months later, this guy's starting in the NBA, which
- 11:25Speaker 1: means if you're an NBA starter, you're better at sixty
- 11:28Speaker 1: So it's funny how the media works. Mello's back year eighteen.
- 11:32Speaker 1: He's playing great this year. Yeah, man, I think like
- 11:35Speaker 1: that just shows you, like with Mellow, like this guy's
- 11:38Speaker 1: one of the most prolific scores in NBA history, sure,
- 11:41Speaker 1: top ten. Yeah, it's and like he never had any
- 11:44Speaker 1: like crazy injuries or anything. I think people just like
- 11:46Speaker 1: just thought like the league had moved past what he does,
- 11:49Speaker 1: and it's like that's not. He just ended up in
- 11:51Speaker 1: shitty situations with Oklahoma City and Houston, like Mike D'Antoni
- 11:55Speaker 1: did not fuck with him, you know what I mean. Like,
- 11:58Speaker 1: so I'm glad he got that second chance. What do
- 12:00Speaker 1: you think is the biggest miss misconception about someone like
- 12:02Speaker 1: Carmelo Anthony. I personally hate it when someone's like, all right,
- 12:08Speaker 1: because he didn't win a ring, then I'm gonna, you know,
- 12:12Speaker 1: not give them the credit for you know, some people
- 12:14Speaker 1: are on that, and I understand to fig your legacy,
- 12:17Speaker 1: but at the end of the day, they people put
- 12:19Speaker 1: in the NBA, I think he's ninth all time score
- 12:22Speaker 1: for all time, Like he's done some amazing things, he
- 12:25Speaker 1: hasn't won a ring. Hopefully he will win a ring,
- 12:27Speaker 1: but you shouldn't be judged just off a ring. Yeah,
- 12:30Speaker 1: I think, like you said, how many like when you
- 12:32Speaker 1: really break down, how many people have rings compared to
- 12:35Speaker 1: the people who have played in the league, it's insane.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I even think during our era, like the last twenty years,
- 12:42Speaker 1: it's been harder than ever to get a ring these
- 12:44Speaker 1: with these super teams, right Yeah, well, I mean look,
- 12:46Speaker 1: even if you go back so like when the Celtics
- 12:49Speaker 1: got Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, that was to me
- 12:51Speaker 1: the first that was like the first super team of
- 12:54Speaker 1: this era. Yeah, where it was like oh a free
- 12:56Speaker 1: agency they just got they just went and got a
- 12:58Speaker 1: big three, and then they won the ring year one. Yeah,
- 13:01Speaker 1: that was the beginning of it. And then the Spurs
- 13:03Speaker 1: had a dynasty, which you know, and then of course
- 13:06Speaker 1: there was the Lakers and yeah, you know, and then
- 13:09Speaker 1: and then the Heat Yeah, and and then the Calves
- 13:12Speaker 1: and then the Warriors. Yeah. Yeah, it's it's pretty wild, man.
- 13:16Speaker 1: You also fuck with a lot of rappers, so some
- 13:19Speaker 1: of these these pickup games you'd be having are like
- 13:22Speaker 1: who's who of hip hop? Running up and down the court?
- 13:24Speaker 1: For sure? Now, the guy who I have always heard
- 13:28Speaker 1: now I've seen Quevo play Quavo, you know, obviously he
- 13:31Speaker 1: hooped for that Bleacher Report ship and did his thing.
- 13:33Speaker 1: But the guy who I always hear is the best
- 13:36Speaker 1: is Coal. Yeah, hands down. So so you're saying Cole
- 13:40Speaker 1: at all the hip hop artist rappers, it's J Cole.
- 13:43Speaker 1: J Cole is the best. So uh yeah. So you know,
- 13:47Speaker 1: before COVID, we worked for like six seven straight months,
- 13:50Speaker 1: meaning J Cole just working on his shot, working. You know,
- 13:54Speaker 1: he would religiously, I think you go to the studio
- 13:56Speaker 1: during the day and at night we would work out
- 13:58Speaker 1: like every night, and then he start playing in the
- 14:00Speaker 1: Black Ops NBA runs. I'd be nine very good NBA
- 14:04Speaker 1: players and he'd be on the court and he was
- 14:06Speaker 1: playing really good. And uh, now he can really hoop.
- 14:10Speaker 1: It's not even close as far as like that's some
- 14:11Speaker 1: good rappers that are good. But he could like hang
- 14:14Speaker 1: with it what overseas right now he could. Yeah, he's
- 14:17Speaker 1: he's worked on it and he's good. Yeah. When someone
- 14:19Speaker 1: puts that much time and effort, like you said, for
- 14:21Speaker 1: like for hover many months, they must be serious about
- 14:25Speaker 1: trying to get better at basketball. There's been rumors that
- 14:28Speaker 1: he might be trying to make a run to get
- 14:31Speaker 1: in the league. Is that something that he's got that
- 14:33Speaker 1: that you know that like might be maybe on his
- 14:34Speaker 1: goal list? Yeah, I can't speak for him. Maybe, I
- 14:38Speaker 1: guess we'll see. I mean the Pistons, man, you know,
- 14:41Speaker 1: we'll see they could get I think there's a few
- 14:43Speaker 1: teams that could literally use anybody, and the Pistons are
- 14:45Speaker 1: one of them. Yeah. No, I wouldn't be surprised if
- 14:47Speaker 1: it happens, but it hasn't happened since master P. He's
- 14:51Speaker 1: better than master P. He's best. I've seen the clips.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I've seen master P clips has Is he better than
- 14:57Speaker 1: any NBA players you've trained. You don't got to tell
- 15:00Speaker 1: me who, No, so I would say, so, let's be honest.
- 15:03Speaker 1: So if he were to be a pro, he'd be
- 15:05Speaker 1: a shooter. Right. He's a better shooter than some of
- 15:08Speaker 1: the guys for sure, for sure, So he'd be a
- 15:10Speaker 1: spot up shooter. He'd be a shooter JJ Reddick, Yeah,
- 15:13Speaker 1: he'd be that type of except JJ Reddick was really
- 15:16Speaker 1: good with moving out the ball. I think he'd just
- 15:18Speaker 1: be more of like a spot up shooter. Cole would
- 15:21Speaker 1: be the he would be the I'm trying to think
- 15:23Speaker 1: who else he'd be the Kyle corverd in the corner
- 15:25Speaker 1: he had He had six seven game winners in the
- 15:28Speaker 1: black ops games and like the NBA guys would be
- 15:30Speaker 1: so pissed like every time he'd do it because they
- 15:32Speaker 1: were really trying and he'd be hitting game winners his
- 15:34Speaker 1: ice in his veins. Wow, that's crazy with with with
- 15:40Speaker 1: basketball right now. There's obviously COVID has been happening this
- 15:45Speaker 1: last season and this season. Has the COVID shit like
- 15:48Speaker 1: affected your business at all? Like players like what kind
- 15:51Speaker 1: of protocols they got to go through to do outside training?
- 15:53Speaker 1: And sure for sure this pass offseason wasn't regular, Like
- 15:55Speaker 1: I couldn't do as many works I want. I couldn't
- 15:58Speaker 1: do the five on five runs. But you know, thank
- 16:01Speaker 1: God to just everything that's you know, signing these deals.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I've been I've been blessed to over this COVID period
- 16:07Speaker 1: to stay with body armor and lids and stock X
- 16:10Speaker 1: and so I've been I'm I'm thankful. Break down some
- 16:14Speaker 1: of these deals you're talking about. Man, you just ran
- 16:16Speaker 1: through some big brands. I mean it's uh, it's you know,
- 16:19Speaker 1: shut out my manager, Alex. Alex Cobland's kind of changed
- 16:22Speaker 1: my life. But yeah, no, it's uh, it's crazy. Sometimes
- 16:25Speaker 1: I've been getting these deals and uh, you know, we'll
- 16:29Speaker 1: be on the phone and they'll be like, you just
- 16:30Speaker 1: got this deal over these three NBA guys, and I'm like, damn,
- 16:33Speaker 1: I'm like getting these deals and NBA guys. It's crazy
- 16:36Speaker 1: to me. Still, is like you're getting deals that like
- 16:39Speaker 1: that they over them, so essentially, instead of them getting
- 16:42Speaker 1: the deal, you got the deal as the trainer. Yeah. Yeah,
- 16:45Speaker 1: and uh, which is which is really cool. That was
- 16:48Speaker 1: never the goal though, but it just it's just happened
- 16:50Speaker 1: like that. You know, I've had my own bowl at Chipotle.
- 16:53Speaker 1: That was cool. So you can go to Chipotle across
- 16:55Speaker 1: the country and get the Chris Rickley Bowl. That was fire.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I had a stock x deal Lids deal. When you
- 17:01Speaker 1: say you have a Lids deal, they give your own
- 17:03Speaker 1: hat or like what is I designed like two hats
- 17:05Speaker 1: that come out across the world. So I own color Blind.
- 17:08Speaker 1: It's like a clothing company. So you know, we made
- 17:11Speaker 1: some hats with them. I'm in the NBA. Two k's
- 17:13Speaker 1: designed to deal with body armor, which is cool. We
- 17:18Speaker 1: had stock x h Wilson, so I actually have my
- 17:24Speaker 1: own like training balls with Wilson, which is fire. I mean,
- 17:28Speaker 1: got his own basketballs. Yeah, it's dope. That's crazy. That
- 17:32Speaker 1: is crazy with the next generation because you know, there's
- 17:36Speaker 1: always I'll be around Ethica a lot in Orange County
- 17:40Speaker 1: and they always have at their location, they always have
- 17:45Speaker 1: all these high school kids. It looks like a warehouse,
- 17:47Speaker 1: right but the yeah, yeah, so there's always like all
- 17:49Speaker 1: the young high school kids always there, you know, and
- 17:54Speaker 1: some guys trained there as well. You know. But but
- 17:56Speaker 1: I know that with AAU and just kind of the
- 17:59Speaker 1: way the game has been, I mean it's been a
- 18:02Speaker 1: while since since the AAU should have kind of taken over,
- 18:05Speaker 1: Like we kind of already kind of know who's probably
- 18:08Speaker 1: gonna be like the next it dudes in the league,
- 18:11Speaker 1: you know, as long as they don't fuck up. Do
- 18:14Speaker 1: you work with a lot of those, like like the
- 18:16Speaker 1: younger kids, whether they're highchool kids or like kids in college.
- 18:19Speaker 1: That's actually my number one focus, Like I don't you know,
- 18:21Speaker 1: I don't. You wouldn't know by my social media, but
- 18:24Speaker 1: like my number one thing is getting like the number
- 18:28Speaker 1: one eighth grader in the country, ninth grade or tenth grader,
- 18:30Speaker 1: eleventh grade, twelfth grader, So then I build that relationship.
- 18:33Speaker 1: So then when this they become players, we have that relationship.
- 18:36Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm big on that. I'm huge on that. Yeah.
- 18:39Speaker 1: I think, like I just saw I think Slam just
- 18:41Speaker 1: had like three or four variant covers with like all
- 18:44Speaker 1: kids in high school. Yeah, and I was like, oh shit,
- 18:47Speaker 1: some of these kids are huge. Mikey Williams, some of
- 18:49Speaker 1: these kids have like five six million followers, they're like
- 18:51Speaker 1: sophomores in high school. Yep. Yeah. I think the first
- 18:55Speaker 1: guy I kind of noticed like that was like that
- 18:56Speaker 1: was when when he was in high school was Zion. Yeah,
- 18:59Speaker 1: I was like, yo, this, I was looking at his
- 19:01Speaker 1: highlights in high school ball. Isn't that? You know? La Melow? Yeah,
- 19:06Speaker 1: you know it's crazy were talking about LaMelo because I
- 19:07Speaker 1: think LaMelo is somebody who there were so many doubts.
- 19:10Speaker 1: And I don't know if you ever worked with him,
- 19:11Speaker 1: but I'm sure as a fan you watched probably some
- 19:13Speaker 1: of his tape. Did you have an idea that he
- 19:15Speaker 1: would be as fire as he is in the lag
- 19:18Speaker 1: Lying to you, No, I didn't. I didn't because he
- 19:21Speaker 1: played overseas. You know, he played in that GB. He
- 19:23Speaker 1: never really played in any like giant platform against really
- 19:26Speaker 1: good players, So I didn't know. And then, uh, the
- 19:29Speaker 1: NBA has made for him. He's great in the open core,
- 19:31Speaker 1: you can shoot it. I think he's gonna be a
- 19:33Speaker 1: superstar and already is. Yeah. I mean he kind of
- 19:36Speaker 1: is man that they just put out that. ESPN just
- 19:37Speaker 1: put out that controversial list where he was like number
- 19:39Speaker 1: three overall and I was like, bro, book is number eight.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I've seen that. Have you ever worked with Devin Booker?
- 19:45Speaker 1: I have. Yeah, He's came to some Black Ops runs
- 19:48Speaker 1: we've worked on individually. He's just such a professional. He
- 19:51Speaker 1: just I was gonna say tell because I'm a Son's
- 19:53Speaker 1: fan and I think he don't get enough love when
- 19:55Speaker 1: it comes to I mean, Lebron called him the most
- 19:57Speaker 1: disrespected player in the game. Right now, what do you
- 20:01Speaker 1: what do you feel about Book? Like working with him?
- 20:04Speaker 1: Like you've seen him? Like, how good you think he
- 20:06Speaker 1: can be? Man, Sky's the limit. I mean he can
- 20:09Speaker 1: score as good as anyone. You know, He's so smooth,
- 20:12Speaker 1: he can shoot it, he can penetrate, he plays d
- 20:15Speaker 1: he's uh and he every he does it every season.
- 20:18Speaker 1: He's like the defense has gotten so much better for sure,
- 20:21Speaker 1: for sure the last few years. Hey, what up? Man?
- 20:23Speaker 1: How to interrupt the bootleg cap podcast to tell you
- 20:26Speaker 1: about our good friends at odd Socks. All right, Yo,

- 21:14Speaker 1: So odd socksofficial dot com keyword bootleg keV. Save twenty
- 21:18Speaker 1: percent at checkout. Thak me later. So who do you
- 21:20Speaker 1: think is in the league that might not necessarily be
- 21:25Speaker 1: showing their greatest potential because they might be in a
- 21:27Speaker 1: situation that's a bad fit for them. I mean, I
- 21:30Speaker 1: have a few, uh, And you're right. The league's all
- 21:32Speaker 1: about opportunity like that's there's guys that are and even
- 21:36Speaker 1: just being getting to the league. There's a lot of
- 21:38Speaker 1: guys that oversees that should be in the league. There's
- 21:40Speaker 1: a lot of guys that have a coach in the
- 21:42Speaker 1: NBA that believe in them, and maybe if they didn't,
- 21:45Speaker 1: they wouldn't even be in the league. The league's crazy,
- 21:48Speaker 1: you know, you know Manuel Quickly the Knicks, Oh yeah,
- 21:52Speaker 1: Emmanuel Quickly. So he's having a really good season. But
- 21:54Speaker 1: you know, Tibbs is like an old school coach, so
- 21:56Speaker 1: he's playing him like eighteen minutes a game as a rookie.
- 21:58Speaker 1: If he was playing like thirty three five minutes a game,
- 22:01Speaker 1: he I think he would be, you know, up there
- 22:02Speaker 1: for Rookie of the Year. That's one Mobamba the magic.
- 22:07Speaker 1: I feel like he doesn't get he I don't feel
- 22:09Speaker 1: like he's ever gotten an opportunity. Yeah, he just hasn't
- 22:12Speaker 1: really played many minutes. He's been injured too. I think
- 22:14Speaker 1: that's one give you one more. This is a good question.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I would have to say, just an better up. So
- 22:23Speaker 1: Jalen Brown, Right, so he's already like really good. Yeah,
- 22:26Speaker 1: but I feel like if he wasn't in the Celtics,
- 22:27Speaker 1: wasn't playing with Tatum, I feel like he could be
- 22:29Speaker 1: like m v P type good. Really yeah, he does
- 22:33Speaker 1: he does it all. That's big man, he does it all.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I mean they also have like common like like their
- 22:38Speaker 1: games are very similar, you know what I mean. So
- 22:41Speaker 1: it's not like he's like like you know, they're they're
- 22:44Speaker 1: both wings, so there's only so much like and Tatum
- 22:47Speaker 1: gets more of the shine. So I think I think, Wow,
- 22:50Speaker 1: Jalleen Brown, you think could be m v P. Huh,
- 22:52Speaker 1: he's that good. Yeah for sure. He's trained with you. Yeah,
- 22:55Speaker 1: and I'm not even saying that just because he's training.
- 22:57Speaker 1: He's he's a real deal. Wow, that's crazy. What about
- 23:01Speaker 1: someone who's retired that you think could still just pick
- 23:03Speaker 1: up the shoes and just just jump right into the
- 23:05Speaker 1: league and just shake shit up. It's a good question.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I would have to say, says retired, right, retired yep,
- 23:15Speaker 1: not playing or even maybe Jennings retired. I mean Jenning
- 23:18Speaker 1: Jennings should be in the NBA. He played eight years
- 23:20Speaker 1: and he was good with the Bucks. You know, he
- 23:22Speaker 1: got he got the little injury, but then he came out.
- 23:25Speaker 1: I think he should be. Obviously, Jared Smith and I retired,
- 23:28Speaker 1: he should be in the NBA. Let me let me
- 23:30Speaker 1: give you a better one. I would have to say, uh,
- 23:35Speaker 1: you know what, give Baron Davis like B Diddy two
- 23:38Speaker 1: months and I feel like he could play in the NBA.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Y know, it's crazy you mentioned Brandon Jennings because I
- 23:43Speaker 1: feel like he's one of those players that I always think, like,
- 23:45Speaker 1: what if I think about that with him? I think
- 23:47Speaker 1: about Oj Mayo, yeah, oj Mayo was fire. Like there's
- 23:50Speaker 1: like a few of those guys, what with Ty Lawson.
- 23:53Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like guys who are in
- 23:55Speaker 1: the league that like just some shit happened or injury
- 23:59Speaker 1: or off the court ship and it's like they were
- 24:02Speaker 1: so good. Like Brandon Jens is doing this thing. Now,
- 24:05Speaker 1: you know he has tough crowd. I didn't. I have
- 24:07Speaker 1: no idea what's going on Brandon j Time clothing company
- 24:10Speaker 1: one of the most popular up and coming clothing companies.
- 24:12Speaker 1: And yeah, he's doing his thing. In your opinion, because
- 24:16Speaker 1: you're you're you're close to the NBA. Obviously you watch basketball.
- 24:20Speaker 1: If every expecting let's I'm asking you this question, assuming
- 24:24Speaker 1: everybody's healthy, Okay, so we're not in factoring anyone who's
- 24:28Speaker 1: injured right now. Let's say the playoffs come, everyone's healthy
- 24:30Speaker 1: at one hundred percent. Who do you got to win?
- 24:33Speaker 1: The Ring? The Nets? The Nets? Hands down, hands down,
- 24:38Speaker 1: even against the Lakers. I just don't see someone beating
- 24:41Speaker 1: Kyrie Irv and Katie James, Harden, Lake Griffin and all
- 24:45Speaker 1: every game series, Aldridge Hair State. They just a really
- 24:49Speaker 1: good team. I just think I think the only thing
- 24:51Speaker 1: that they might have that might they might be lacking.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Is who's going to guard a D? Yeah, not for sure.
- 24:58Speaker 1: And then obviously they need to get along then you know, yeah,
- 25:00Speaker 1: they got to get along. Three haven't really been healthy
- 25:03Speaker 1: for the thing, they all three of them haven't played
- 25:04Speaker 1: together at once, Like I'm I think maybe it was
- 25:06Speaker 1: like six games, maybe a few games, so, I mean,
- 25:09Speaker 1: but off talent though, you you know, two guys, I
- 25:12Speaker 1: just don't know how you can outscore the nets, like
- 25:15Speaker 1: they don't even I look at it, like they don't
- 25:16Speaker 1: even got to play defense, Like you got to outscore them.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Facts like like someone's gonna be open. They always say
- 25:24Speaker 1: that Kyrie's at least and and this has been going
- 25:28Speaker 1: around a lot lately now that people are all all
- 25:30Speaker 1: hot on Kyrie again because people are shitting on Kyrie
- 25:32Speaker 1: for so long and I never understood it. But I've
- 25:35Speaker 1: never seen anybody with a better handle than Kyrie. And
- 25:39Speaker 1: lately the narrative of him being the most skilled player
- 25:42Speaker 1: of all time has been getting thrown around. Is have
- 25:47Speaker 1: you worked with Kyrie? I haven't, but like you watch him?
- 25:50Speaker 1: Is that something that like? Because he but he I
- 25:53Speaker 1: think I like watching his highlights in slow motion. Yeah,
- 25:56Speaker 1: because that you could really appreciate what Kyrie Irving does
- 25:58Speaker 1: when he reacts art his handle. Yeah, No, arguably you
- 26:03Speaker 1: you could say, like pound for pound, you know, he's
- 26:05Speaker 1: the most skilled player of all time. What can he do?
- 26:07Speaker 1: Can shoot it, he can dribble, he his good full work,
- 26:09Speaker 1: he finishes of the day he dunked on someone. I mean,
- 26:13Speaker 1: I don't know what he can't do. Yeah, it's crazy. Right,
- 26:17Speaker 1: Who do you think is the most slept on player
- 26:19Speaker 1: that you work with? Because I've seen you work with
- 26:20Speaker 1: you were working with CJ McCollum, right, Yeah, I would
- 26:23Speaker 1: say c J McCollum. I think year in and year out,
- 26:25Speaker 1: he averages like twenty five a game, never been an
- 26:27Speaker 1: All Star, had a crazy year before he got injured. Yeah,
- 26:30Speaker 1: I think he would have been All Star this year
- 26:31Speaker 1: if he and he always kills in the playoffs, you know,
- 26:34Speaker 1: I think if he wasn't with Dame and he was
- 26:36Speaker 1: on another team, I he'd be All Star. Maybe I
- 26:39Speaker 1: could have answered that he could have been CJ. Yeah,
- 26:42Speaker 1: that's some real shit. Yeah he's nice. Yeah, No, I
- 26:44Speaker 1: think his his uh, the way he started this season
- 26:47Speaker 1: was like I was like, oh my god, the Blazers
- 26:48Speaker 1: are going to be crazy. Yeah, like if they get
- 26:51Speaker 1: that out of him, Like, yeah, man, you worked with
- 26:54Speaker 1: him this past offseason. Yeah, I've worked with him for
- 26:56Speaker 1: like seven So I worked with him, you know, after
- 26:58Speaker 1: his rookie year, after like rhetor and then so I
- 27:01Speaker 1: saw him sign his firste hundred million dollar deal next summer,
- 27:05Speaker 1: worked just as hard. Then I just seen him sign
- 27:07Speaker 1: a seconde hundred million dollar deal. So I've like seen
- 27:10Speaker 1: I've seen it the whole come up and that guy
- 27:12Speaker 1: works hard. Man. We would go double sessions to two
- 27:16Speaker 1: workouts for like four straight months. Woweah. Have you ever
- 27:19Speaker 1: had a player who you trained up and then they
- 27:21Speaker 1: got that big deal and they kind of threw you
- 27:23Speaker 1: a little bonus like, hey, yeah, I appreciate you, bro,
- 27:25Speaker 1: here this this for you. Yeah. A few guys for sure.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I never asked either though, but yeah, a few guys
- 27:30Speaker 1: Like can you tell us who I've looked out? Nah,
- 27:33Speaker 1: I wouldn't want to do that, but you know I've
- 27:34Speaker 1: gotten a S five fifty someone's about me that player. Wait,
- 27:38Speaker 1: someone about your bands? Yeah, I got you know, I
- 27:41Speaker 1: have a rolex a bunch of jewelry that's like their
- 27:44Speaker 1: favorite thing on a budget. Yeah, you know, it's about
- 27:49Speaker 1: your fucking car. Yeah, Jesus, But that was like years
- 27:55Speaker 1: and years of grinding and they got you know, they
- 27:56Speaker 1: got a life changeing type contract and then they were like, yeah,
- 27:59Speaker 1: I thank you, thanks for whatever you contributed for sure.
- 28:03Speaker 1: That's crazy, man, is that like do you have to
- 28:06Speaker 1: pay the taxes on the car? You know, that's so
- 28:08Speaker 1: funny you said that because at the time I wasn't
- 28:10Speaker 1: really I'd really just started making money money like the
- 28:13Speaker 1: last two three years. So when this happened, I wasn't.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I was like, damn the insurance stuff there all that. Yeah,
- 28:19Speaker 1: so you know I was that kind of like messed
- 28:21Speaker 1: me up a little bit, but you know I didn't.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Yeah I had. I had to pay the insurance and
- 28:25Speaker 1: you know, pay the regular SI beat paid the car
- 28:27Speaker 1: off completely. So wow, hey man, that's that's crazy talk about.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Because I'm a big proponent on betting on yourself, and
- 28:38Speaker 1: you know, I always tell people who are extremely talented,
- 28:41Speaker 1: like yo, you know a lot of times we look
- 28:43Speaker 1: at and entities and companies that are in our field
- 28:48Speaker 1: and we look at them as like our barometer of
- 28:52Speaker 1: what success is. Same way like you with anybody who
- 28:56Speaker 1: would have gotten to the Knicks would have just been
- 28:58Speaker 1: happy to be there and would have been like, I
- 29:00Speaker 1: gotta grind this out as long as possible, and you
- 29:03Speaker 1: left voluntarily bet it on yourself. Just talk about how
- 29:08Speaker 1: important that is that mentality, because I feel like it
- 29:11Speaker 1: is imperative for people who are talented and hungry to
- 29:15Speaker 1: realize that success is not you know, it's not what
- 29:20Speaker 1: it's not always what you think it is, like you
- 29:23Speaker 1: know what I mean, facts, man, I think it's huge.
- 29:25Speaker 1: I think that's just so many things that come with
- 29:28Speaker 1: betting on yourself. Like I feel like people that you know, also,
- 29:31Speaker 1: there's a lot of people that say they've been on themselves,
- 29:33Speaker 1: but you can tell by their actions that they really don't.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I think when you are really believe in yourself, you
- 29:40Speaker 1: have like a confidence about you and what you do,
- 29:42Speaker 1: and like that you you know, you know that, Like
- 29:46Speaker 1: I know when I I don't care who you put
- 29:49Speaker 1: on the court with me, and I know then I'm
- 29:50Speaker 1: gonna get him better. I know I'm gonna study his
- 29:53Speaker 1: game and figure it out. So it kind of gives
- 29:54Speaker 1: you like this confidence. And I feel like in life,
- 29:57Speaker 1: when you when you don't have confidence in what you do.
- 29:59Speaker 1: People can see that and it's just not going to
- 30:02Speaker 1: work out. So just believing in yourself as everything, and
- 30:04Speaker 1: you only need one person to believe in you too.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Like that's another thing. You know, as you're coming up,
- 30:10Speaker 1: you can be believing in yourself and thirty people might
- 30:13Speaker 1: say like not, you're not it, You're not it, But
- 30:17Speaker 1: you know, you get that one GM from the NIXT
- 30:19Speaker 1: and wanted to give me that job, and then you
- 30:21Speaker 1: make the best of it, you know. So I think
- 30:24Speaker 1: we live in a society where people like Instagram and
- 30:27Speaker 1: all that, we're trying to win over everybody. It's impossible.
- 30:31Speaker 1: That's you know. I think it's just just focusing on
- 30:35Speaker 1: just being the best you and someone along the way
- 30:38Speaker 1: is gonna see that and give you an opportunity. When
- 30:40Speaker 1: you get the opportunity, you need to be ready. You
- 30:42Speaker 1: talked about studying people's games right and helping them, Like,
- 30:45Speaker 1: I'm confident I could I could study someone's game. And
- 30:48Speaker 1: what is something that specifically you've done for a player
- 30:51Speaker 1: where you were like, hey, I've watched a bunch of tape.
- 30:54Speaker 1: We just like we just started working together, we've been
- 30:56Speaker 1: working together. I can help fix this, So I guess, like,
- 31:01Speaker 1: so with Donovan Mitchell, this is like I worked with
- 31:05Speaker 1: him for a number off seasons, but every offseason we
- 31:07Speaker 1: have like a new goal and so you know, I'm
- 31:10Speaker 1: gonna get technical on you. So he's really good at
- 31:12Speaker 1: dribbling left and shooting. Yeah, and when he dribbled right
- 31:15Speaker 1: and pulled up, his percentage is way lower. So we
- 31:18Speaker 1: worked on him just the whole summer, just working on
- 31:22Speaker 1: picking the ball from the right and shooting, and his
- 31:24Speaker 1: like shooting percentage went really high. I think CG. McCollum.
- 31:27Speaker 1: We worked really hard one summer he got he got
- 31:30Speaker 1: you know, most improved player. That was cool. There's been
- 31:33Speaker 1: a few times where we've worked on specific stuff and
- 31:37Speaker 1: you know, every off season every player. I'm not just
- 31:39Speaker 1: out there like people think, oh, he's just throwing him
- 31:42Speaker 1: through drills, Like, no, we're working on stuff specific things. Yeah.
- 31:45Speaker 1: I mean, I think like the main thing that like
- 31:47Speaker 1: from like a general and like basketball fans perspective, we
- 31:49Speaker 1: always think of like guys who like have broken shots
- 31:52Speaker 1: or can't shoot free throws, and it's like, you know,
- 31:55Speaker 1: I think someone like Donovan Mitchell is like a perfect example.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Like when he came int the league. I feel like
- 32:00Speaker 1: no one looked at him like he was a three
- 32:01Speaker 1: point shooter. He was very like you kind of thought
- 32:03Speaker 1: of them like d Wade mid range game, taking it
- 32:06Speaker 1: to the basket. For the last two years, he's launching
- 32:09Speaker 1: them things. Sure, you know what I'm saying. Sure, And like,
- 32:14Speaker 1: is that the hardest thing to do is to try
- 32:16Speaker 1: to I'm not saying you did that with Donovan, but
- 32:18Speaker 1: I'm saying in general, to try to fix someone's shot. Yes,
- 32:22Speaker 1: that's the hardest thing to do, for sure, and because
- 32:24Speaker 1: so much comes with that, Like you're fixing their shot,
- 32:27Speaker 1: but then like their confidence starts to waiver, because to
- 32:30Speaker 1: fix your shot, you're going to become a worse shooter
- 32:32Speaker 1: for a little bit, and then you become a better shooter.
- 32:34Speaker 1: And guys can't handle that. So what happens is you
- 32:37Speaker 1: have your shot, you try and change it. They're like, man,
- 32:40Speaker 1: forget this, I'm going back to the mold shot because
- 32:41Speaker 1: they're not patient enough to understand that it's a process
- 32:44Speaker 1: and you become a better shooter after So that, Yeah,
- 32:47Speaker 1: that's definitely who's someone who you helped fix their form,
- 32:51Speaker 1: fix their shot. Is there anybody that you could talk
- 32:53Speaker 1: about make like tweaks. I mean an a bunch of guys.
- 32:57Speaker 1: We've made tweaks, just like little tweaks. But you know
- 33:01Speaker 1: j Cole, Yeah, if we're talking, that was like the
- 33:03Speaker 1: biggest project I've ever had to do in my life
- 33:06Speaker 1: those like three months he used to shoot up here.
- 33:08Speaker 1: We completely changed his shot and that's like the best
- 33:11Speaker 1: thing for a coach to do, change something shot. But
- 33:13Speaker 1: uh and then it works. Yeah, it works a good shooter.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Andre Drummond needs to hire you, man, that's my guy too.
- 33:20Speaker 1: We need to work. We got to work on the
- 33:21Speaker 1: free throws, man, because I'm afraid that he's not going
- 33:24Speaker 1: to see a lot of playing time in the fourth
- 33:25Speaker 1: quarter if the Lakers, you know, going to run free
- 33:28Speaker 1: the line lineability. Yeah, facts, man, what's next for you?
- 33:33Speaker 1: Because obviously, you know, you could pretty much do whatever
- 33:36Speaker 1: you want at this point, but like what is like
- 33:38Speaker 1: on your like goal list, Like how do you want
- 33:40Speaker 1: to build out the company? What are the the the
- 33:42Speaker 1: other things that you want to try to do in
- 33:43Speaker 1: the future. Man, Yeah, so I mean just keep building
- 33:45Speaker 1: out this black Ops thing, you know. Done. I look
- 33:48Speaker 1: at every summer like an album. So I've been I
- 33:50Speaker 1: left the next four years ago and take COVID out.
- 33:53Speaker 1: I've had like four like amazing albums that no one's
- 33:55Speaker 1: ever done as far as like the pickup games. So
- 33:58Speaker 1: like one off season is an album the guys. I've
- 34:00Speaker 1: worked out the guys, I've gotten better. So I want
- 34:03Speaker 1: to have fifteen more of those albums. You know, I'm
- 34:05Speaker 1: just getting started with that. And then you know, outside
- 34:08Speaker 1: of basketball, I'm doing Uh, I have an album coming out, Mike.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Speaking of albums, you got an album coming out for sure.
- 34:15Speaker 1: I'm super excited about that call Welcome to the Grind.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Remember Jock Jams back in the day, So it's gonna
- 34:20Speaker 1: be like the hip hop Jock Jams. It's gonna be,
- 34:22Speaker 1: you know, music that you can work out to. I
- 34:25Speaker 1: want to be like the theme music for all Hoopers.
- 34:27Speaker 1: I got, you know, a little baby on it. Dirk
- 34:30Speaker 1: Meek fab mm hmm. Travis, You got Travis Scott on
- 34:35Speaker 1: the album? Yeah, Trey songs, Jesus Christ, that's a did
- 34:40Speaker 1: you have to pay? Did you have to pay any
- 34:43Speaker 1: of these people? Uh? Yeah. So I'm in like the
- 34:45Speaker 1: process of that, but I'm doing it independently. The artist
- 34:49Speaker 1: is gonna be able to keep ownership of this. I
- 34:50Speaker 1: was gonna ask you, like with those like do they
- 34:52Speaker 1: do it? And then you gotta like they do it
- 34:54Speaker 1: on the string or the honest truth is actually been
- 34:56Speaker 1: the biggest stress of my life in the last few months.
- 34:59Speaker 1: So I'm I'm so cool with all these artists that
- 35:01Speaker 1: you will go to the studio to make the song
- 35:03Speaker 1: right here, and then then you gotta deal with the
- 35:06Speaker 1: rest the label, the business, the management, the label. I
- 35:09Speaker 1: got all the songs, it's just the labels. These labels,
- 35:11Speaker 1: they don't respect me. I'm basketball I'm a basketball trainer,
- 35:14Speaker 1: so you know, just waiting on these these people at
- 35:17Speaker 1: the labels to sign off on it, to give the
- 35:19Speaker 1: clearances to you know, it's just a headache, man. But
- 35:23Speaker 1: it's gonna be fire. The albums. I mean, funny, that's
- 35:25Speaker 1: a hell of a that's a DJ Khaled esque. That's
- 35:29Speaker 1: what I'm trying to do. I'm gonna do it. That's crazy,
- 35:31Speaker 1: he said, Travis Scott. There ain't nobody getting no Travis
- 35:34Speaker 1: Scott features out here. Ship that's wow. What about Cole?
- 35:39Speaker 1: So you know, it's funny. That's the one guy that
- 35:42Speaker 1: I reached out to about it, and he's he's an
- 35:44Speaker 1: album mode, right, so he's like, you know, he wants
- 35:47Speaker 1: the next music that he drops, he wants it to
- 35:48Speaker 1: be So I understood that. I understood that. Is he
- 35:52Speaker 1: still actively training with you? Uh? Yeah, yes, we're still training.
- 35:56Speaker 1: I go to North Carolina like a week, so not
- 36:00Speaker 1: as much obviously as like a regular offseason. But he's
- 36:03Speaker 1: still training and he's getting his album done. Do you
- 36:06Speaker 1: think he do you think he like he has a
- 36:07Speaker 1: serious chance to make a NBA roster. I don't know.
- 36:11Speaker 1: If he keeps improving, there's a chance for sure, at
- 36:14Speaker 1: least maybe a summer league roster for sure. Summer league
- 36:16Speaker 1: for sure. It's crazy, Like the whole Summer league thing
- 36:20Speaker 1: is like it became its own thing, and that was
- 36:22Speaker 1: one of the things I really like, uh missed this
- 36:25Speaker 1: past year. Yeah, the summer league. Summer League was the
- 36:29Speaker 1: ship Man facts. That's like a fun that's fun for fans.
- 36:32Speaker 1: It's good to be back this summer. Yeah, definitely. Well,
- 36:37Speaker 1: ship you got so much shit going on, albums coming
- 36:39Speaker 1: out hopefully soon. I know how hard that is. Though.
- 36:43Speaker 1: You said a lot of big names, so you got
- 36:45Speaker 1: to talk to a lot of all the red tape
- 36:47Speaker 1: with some of the like in just in general, like
- 36:50Speaker 1: you said, it's so easy to get the record out
- 36:52Speaker 1: of the studio and get it on your phone and
- 36:53Speaker 1: in your email, but to actually drop it, for sure,
- 36:56Speaker 1: there's a lot more that comes with that. Can you
- 36:58Speaker 1: see yourself ever going active coaches, coaching in the NBA
- 37:02Speaker 1: or on a college level ever? Sure. I think I
- 37:05Speaker 1: would want to be like a GM actually kind of
- 37:07Speaker 1: run a team, just with the relationships I have understand
- 37:10Speaker 1: the game. That'd be cool. I'd be an NBA assistant
- 37:13Speaker 1: coach maybe, But right now I'm making so much that
- 37:16Speaker 1: they couldn't pay me enough. I'm making more money than
- 37:19Speaker 1: pays for sure. So there would have to be something
- 37:21Speaker 1: where you were like, all right, like this is something
- 37:23Speaker 1: I want to do. Yeah, exactly, But I would love
- 37:26Speaker 1: to be like a head coach one day. A GM
- 37:27Speaker 1: would be crazy, I always because you know, we all
- 37:29Speaker 1: play two K and we always make trades. That'd be dope.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I think GM would be insane. I would like, in
- 37:35Speaker 1: your opinion, let's say you're a GM, right, pick a team.
- 37:38Speaker 1: What's a trade that you think should have happened in
- 37:40Speaker 1: the offseason that didn't happen. I think I mean the
- 37:43Speaker 1: one I think of was like, Yo, how to Kyle
- 37:44Speaker 1: Lowry do not get fucking traded? He was walking back
- 37:46Speaker 1: to the locker room crying like he was like last Raptor,
- 37:49Speaker 1: saying in this like prior, you know what I'm about
- 37:51Speaker 1: this year, we just had the trade deadline passed. What
- 37:53Speaker 1: was the trade you think needed to happen? Man, Man,
- 37:56Speaker 1: that's a good question. Uh, I don't know. I can't
- 38:03Speaker 1: even answer that. I want the Knicks to get someone else,
- 38:06Speaker 1: the Knicks to like, you know, I'm a big Knicks
- 38:08Speaker 1: that's your team. Yeah, so they're like in the playoff run,
- 38:10Speaker 1: Juice Raando's an All Star. I want them to get
- 38:12Speaker 1: like another All Star caliber player. I was thinking they
- 38:14Speaker 1: might fuck around and try to get Russell Westbrook. To
- 38:16Speaker 1: be honest, they're trying to get Ceg McCollum too. They're
- 38:18Speaker 1: trying to you know, there were Devin book of rumors Roses.
- 38:22Speaker 1: I know, I know, I know about it. Leon, I'm aware.
- 38:24Speaker 1: But uh, with the two seed, bro cannot have book. Sons.
- 38:30Speaker 1: He's finally winning. Yeah, let me let me get your
- 38:32Speaker 1: opinion on the Suns. What's your opinion on what the
- 38:34Speaker 1: Sons have done this year? Playing great. I think CP
- 38:36Speaker 1: and Book are like a tough combination. I think I
- 38:40Speaker 1: like deanrew Ayton too. What do you think is missing
- 38:42Speaker 1: with Ayton? Because I think I watch Aiden and sometimes
- 38:45Speaker 1: I get frustrated because I feel like he's not as
- 38:46Speaker 1: aggressive and not as like skill set. I think like
- 38:49Speaker 1: around the rim, you know, I think the other night,
- 38:52Speaker 1: like Shaq was talking about it, he you know, he
- 38:54Speaker 1: should have just done a little lefty hook and instead
- 38:57Speaker 1: he shut and got blocked, just like little just like
- 39:00Speaker 1: have skills, No, have a lefty hook, have a righty hook,
- 39:03Speaker 1: havin up and under stuff like that. I'll pay five
- 39:05Speaker 1: percent of his training costs if we can get DeAndre
- 39:08Speaker 1: in this off season to come training with my guy too.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Seems like the sweetest dude. Yeah yeah, it seems like
- 39:14Speaker 1: a real nice dude. Man. I just like sometimes I'm like, dude,
- 39:17Speaker 1: you have to, you know, impose your will. I want
- 39:21Speaker 1: him to dunk on people and scream at them, you know,
- 39:24Speaker 1: I have like that dog and them. Yeah sure, yeah
- 39:26Speaker 1: sure yeah man. Well look go follow him on Instagram.
- 39:30Speaker 1: You got a real dope story, and congratulations on all
- 39:32Speaker 1: the success, man, Because I think that anybody can look
- 39:35Speaker 1: at what you've done. Are you ever planning on writing
- 39:37Speaker 1: a book or anything. Yeah, yeah, that's in the works
- 39:40Speaker 1: for sure. I think anybody can look at your come
- 39:42Speaker 1: up and apply it to their own lives in any
- 39:44Speaker 1: field or any you know, whatever they're doing. I appreciate that. So,
- 39:47Speaker 1: you know, hey, it was nice to link with you,
- 39:48Speaker 1: and and hopefully we'll see you, you know, on an
- 39:51Speaker 1: NBA bench one day or not. Honestly funk that you
- 39:54Speaker 1: don't need that straight up like we're top, Like you
- 39:56Speaker 1: don't need that ship. You'll do that if you want to. Yeah,
- 39:59Speaker 1: boom exact. Actually, thanks, appreciate you
