- 0:10Speaker 1: a rule about cursing with things related to Star Wars. Well,

- 0:21Speaker 1: the curse. Leave the curse, Daniel. But because it's in
- 0:24Speaker 1: the same sentence as Star Wars, bleep it for him?
- 0:28Speaker 1: Got it? Is that? Okay? Donald? No cut that out. No, Yeah, listen, man,

- 1:31Speaker 1: don't even look at Twitter trends or yo, don't look
- 1:34Speaker 1: don't look at anything, or it will ruin everything. It
- 1:39Speaker 1: will ruin everything here. And I cried like a baby.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Hold on now, hold on you gets hold you well?
- 1:46Speaker 1: You cried like a baby. Joel. Did you cry like

- 1:53Speaker 1: a baby this morning? Did you cry like a baby?
- 1:56Speaker 1: Oh my god. Yeah. They haven't watched it yet. They
- 1:59Speaker 1: haven't watch it yet. What else did you have to do?
- 2:02Speaker 1: But when his greatness on your screen, tell them, Joel,
- 2:08Speaker 1: tell them Joel. No, don't tell us anything, Joel. A
- 2:11Speaker 1: lot of people won't have seen it. And I I mean,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I'm sure by the time this airs, if you're a
- 2:17Speaker 1: fan of the Mandalorian, you'll have watched it. But we

- 2:21Speaker 1: just mad that I gotta wait till December of next
- 2:23Speaker 1: year to see a new episode again. December twenty one.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Oh my god. But it's gonna be so good. But
- 2:31Speaker 1: there's so much in between, right, there's gonna be so
- 2:33Speaker 1: much in between, right, Oh, there's so much in between.
- 2:35Speaker 1: It's like the the I guess the new movie. The
- 2:38Speaker 1: movie that's coming out is Rogue Squadron Hetty Jenkins. Laddy
- 2:42Speaker 1: Jenkins is directing it. I'm really excited about that. There's
- 2:45Speaker 1: I guess a new Boba Fette show coming. There's a
- 2:48Speaker 1: Whet Died Huh what No, the actor who played Boba
- 2:58Speaker 1: Fett in the movie, right, yeah, passed away. The original
- 3:02Speaker 1: actor who played sorry, yeah, the actor in the original
- 3:08Speaker 1: movies right and the Empire Strikes Back, and and uh.
- 3:11Speaker 1: And he was in Return of the Jedi, and he
- 3:13Speaker 1: was also in uh The Phantom Menace as one of
- 3:16Speaker 1: the pilots for Queen Amidala, which was no way. Yeah. Yeah, yeah,
- 3:21Speaker 1: he's one of the shit. Yeah. I just wanted to
- 3:24Speaker 1: say some good news. We just got Daniel. Can you
- 3:27Speaker 1: have like a low rumbling drum roll like they what
- 3:31Speaker 1: are they? What are those large orchestral drums? Yeah? Yeah,
- 3:34Speaker 1: can you have a timpanie um thing here? That's like
- 3:38Speaker 1: at the end of Star Wars Bom bom bom bom
- 3:40Speaker 1: bomb into two thousand and one, bom bom bom bomb.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I want to remember bom right, but I don't want
- 3:50Speaker 1: bum bum bum. I want bubb bubb. I got you.
- 3:54Speaker 1: You got that going, all right? You? Fake Doctor's Real

- 4:17Speaker 1: not know that. Thank you. Thank you to our very loyal,
- 4:20Speaker 1: amazing listeners. That is a big milestone for us. We
- 4:24Speaker 1: had no idea this would happen, that it would happen
- 4:26Speaker 1: like this. We just wanted to get on the on
- 4:28Speaker 1: the internet and talk about, you know, our friendship and
- 4:32Speaker 1: making scrubs. We had no idea that there were that
- 4:34Speaker 1: many of you out there who would would be interested
- 4:36Speaker 1: in this, and so thank you so much for Thank you,
- 4:39Speaker 1: thank and continue, please continue. We will continue if you continue. Yes,
- 4:45Speaker 1: and Joel and Daniel. Thank you both for making the
- 4:48Speaker 1: dream come true. Is our pleasure. It's a lot of fun.
- 4:52Speaker 1: All right, Let's let the legendary Johnny ce in I forgot.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I felt bad that we didn't have him for My
- 4:58Speaker 1: screw Up. So I think we're gonna do a little
- 4:59Speaker 1: my scho up and then we'll do the new one.
- 5:02Speaker 1: But we got to talk to him about my screw up.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Thunder is applause, But John, my god, there he is.
- 5:22Speaker 1: What I brought him? Handsome? Hello fellas. How good of Zachie.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I haven't seen you. I get to I have some
- 5:32Speaker 1: one on one time with Donald. We played golf a
- 5:35Speaker 1: couple of months ago. Yes we do, so that was good.
- 5:38Speaker 1: But I don't get to see you, Zachie. I know
- 5:40Speaker 1: I miss you, sir. I miss you a lot, and
- 5:42Speaker 1: I'm watching these episodes and we will do lots of
- 5:45Speaker 1: fawning over you. But you are such a good actor,
- 5:48Speaker 1: and it's so fun to revisit these and just see
- 5:51Speaker 1: what an incredible performance you give and continue to give
- 5:55Speaker 1: in this show. So Johnny, um, well wait till you're settled.
- 5:58Speaker 1: But I wanted to just say that the fans have
- 6:01Speaker 1: been clamoring for more Johnny c McGinley, it's everything we
- 6:04Speaker 1: get is all right? Enough of the bullshit? Where is
- 6:07Speaker 1: Johnny c McGinley give us Johnny c McGinley respectfully disagree.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I don't ever try to step on any fans toes.
- 6:16Speaker 1: But uh, that with Bill, when Bill came back, and
- 6:19Speaker 1: when with real Bill on there. Uh and then of
- 6:24Speaker 1: course Josh he the other day was just spectacular. Yeah. Yeah,
- 6:29Speaker 1: we had a lot of great feedback from the Josh Frady. Yeah, Josh,
- 6:32Speaker 1: Josh came on and there we had a good show
- 6:35Speaker 1: with Josh. He did a sting man. Everyone said his
- 6:38Speaker 1: voice was so soothing, not not even when he was singing.
- 6:40Speaker 1: When he's I think Josh puts on a little bit
- 6:42Speaker 1: of a radio voice, you know he was. That's definitely
- 6:45Speaker 1: a fucking radio voice. Man on this dude got on
- 6:50Speaker 1: the mica was like, hello, my name was Josh Raiding. Yeah,
- 6:53Speaker 1: he was seducing the world and I'm gonna drop my
- 6:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna drop my pitch down a few out there.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Yeah he did do that. The fuck I need to
- 7:01Speaker 1: be I wouldn't know Josh's voice from anything other than
- 7:09Speaker 1: being drunk at four o'clock in the morning. And screaming
- 7:11Speaker 1: at him how much I love him. So I wouldn't
- 7:16Speaker 1: I wouldn't know Josh's voice, his real speaking voice if
- 7:19Speaker 1: they hit me over the fucking kid. But you're right.
- 7:22Speaker 1: He did do that all of a sudden, and we
- 7:23Speaker 1: were like okay, and we're recording, and he was like, yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 1: I just want to say that I love being on
- 7:27Speaker 1: the radio. And it was like he was It was
- 7:29Speaker 1: like he was in that uh and a guest ire. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:37Speaker 1: it was like he was in that sweaty ball sketch.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I just want to I just want to put those
- 7:40Speaker 1: sweaty balls in my mouth. I can't wait to eat
- 7:43Speaker 1: your sweaty balls. Yeah, I love that. I love that sketch.
- 7:46Speaker 1: That was such a funny sketch like public they were
- 7:48Speaker 1: like a public access. Yes, we just wanted to say
- 7:51Speaker 1: that I loved it. How do you how do you
- 7:54Speaker 1: like to how do you like to eat your sweaty balls? Oh?
- 7:57Speaker 1: I love it to just pop him in my mouth.
- 7:59Speaker 1: I with my mouth real wide and I throw those
- 8:03Speaker 1: sweaty balls in my mouth. Wait. We never counted into
- 8:08Speaker 1: the song Jenna stories about show we made about a
- 8:15Speaker 1: bunch of dots and nurses and jan said he's stories
- 8:21Speaker 1: never so YadA around here, a yadoo around here. We
- 8:34Speaker 1: are we are fortunate and blessed to have our co
- 8:37Speaker 1: star Johnny c McGinley on my plan. Um was originally
- 8:42Speaker 1: gonna have Johnny on for My screw Up, but because
- 8:44Speaker 1: of Donald's work schedule and COVID and changing everything around,
- 8:48Speaker 1: it didn't work out because, uh, we actually ended up
- 8:51Speaker 1: recording at the last minute, and I literally called Josh Rayden.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I was like, will you be our guest? So, Johnny,
- 8:57Speaker 1: I just wanted to start off and talk about your
- 9:00Speaker 1: impressions this many years later seeing My screw Up. You
- 9:03Speaker 1: know what many of the fans think is is one
- 9:05Speaker 1: of the finest episodes we did in nine years, and
- 9:08Speaker 1: it's certainly at the center of it is your incredible performance,
- 9:11Speaker 1: and I just wanted to hear your thoughts on it
- 9:14Speaker 1: watching it this many years later. Um, well, I can't.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I can't start with I mean, I went through the
- 9:21Speaker 1: episode and the first notes and I'll just bang them.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I'll just bang them out with you and some well no,
- 9:29Speaker 1: you guys didn't really touch on these, uh with Joshi,
- 9:32Speaker 1: so these will be relatively fresh. Uh. I thought that
- 9:38Speaker 1: Krista looked apt. She always looked beautiful, but I thought
- 9:41Speaker 1: Krista looked I guess she was between kids and she's
- 9:45Speaker 1: just killing her jeans, killing it. She just looked like
- 9:51Speaker 1: a smoke show. Yeah, Zachie, the golf club to the nuts.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I completely forgot about it. And what the heck did
- 9:59Speaker 1: you did you have on a big steel plate or something.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I must have had a big cup on, obviously, and
- 10:04Speaker 1: more than a cup, because you can't take that without it,
- 10:07Speaker 1: Man's not a way. Because but also Tara bliss her heart.
- 10:10Speaker 1: She may not be the most gifted physical comedian. So
- 10:12Speaker 1: I'm sure that club was just coming back. I don't
- 10:16Speaker 1: remember it at all, but I do. I can assure
- 10:18Speaker 1: you I had a cup on. There's a handful of
- 10:20Speaker 1: times when I would be doing stunts and they'd be like,
- 10:22Speaker 1: I think you want to cup for this one, and
- 10:24Speaker 1: I would be like, I just want to come for
- 10:25Speaker 1: all of them, just in case. Absolutely. Let's that's like
- 10:30Speaker 1: they have a thing called a it's a girdle that
- 10:33Speaker 1: you can put on that's from in football. It's almost
- 10:36Speaker 1: it's a steel from football, but it's called a tortishel
- 10:39Speaker 1: tortoiseshell and you can put a tortoiseshell girdle on and
- 10:42Speaker 1: to protect your hips and your lower back, and it
- 10:44Speaker 1: doesn't read. It's just a thin piece of plastic and
- 10:47Speaker 1: you just put on you put on the tortoishelf. Your
- 10:50Speaker 1: your your life is going to be better. Yeah, I think.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I think once you're definitely better. Yeah, you never. I
- 10:56Speaker 1: don't remember that one at all. I don't even know
- 10:58Speaker 1: if that was a real club or if they gave
- 11:00Speaker 1: a foam end to it or not. But yeah, she
- 11:02Speaker 1: did take a whack to my grind. Also, you tearing
- 11:05Speaker 1: into the photo is almost like something I don't know
- 11:08Speaker 1: if you are versed enough in Jerry Lewis. And that's
- 11:11Speaker 1: not condescending. There's some people who don't like Jerry Lewis.
- 11:14Speaker 1: He's a really great physical comedian. And you try to
- 11:17Speaker 1: tear into the photo completely self generated, and it's completely committed,
- 11:22Speaker 1: and he totally caught me off guard. And so he's
- 11:27Speaker 1: such a weakling. He can't rip it. I'm like doing that. Wait,
- 11:32Speaker 1: hold on, have you ever tried to rip a Polaroid's right? Right,
- 11:39Speaker 1: So let's let's give JD some credit. It is very
- 11:42Speaker 1: difficult to rip a polaroid when Brennan says, you've slept
- 11:45Speaker 1: with both we have something in common. You've slept with
- 11:47Speaker 1: both of my sisters. We have something in common. That's
- 11:50Speaker 1: just Bill being devious. Yeah, Yeah, the man has a
- 11:54Speaker 1: twisted twist. And then he circles back to the joke
- 11:57Speaker 1: later on when he you guys are walking down the
- 11:59Speaker 1: whole and he says, I find Danny to be more
- 12:02Speaker 1: of a of a yeah, and christ is more brutal.
- 12:07Speaker 1: And it just makes you so, it makes you you, Zach,
- 12:10Speaker 1: you can see, it's just making you uncomfortable. Well, they
- 12:13Speaker 1: really do talk, not like Christa and her brother and
- 12:17Speaker 1: uh and Bill are all close, you know, and they
- 12:19Speaker 1: must have obviously been the inspo for for some of this.
- 12:22Speaker 1: And there's definitely times where you're like so cringey around
- 12:25Speaker 1: them because they do not censor themselves. They're a lot
- 12:28Speaker 1: like that. I thought when when somebody, oh, there goes
- 12:32Speaker 1: missus Carlo butt face, uh maybe left. It's just stupid joke.
- 12:39Speaker 1: It's a stupid joke. But because for the fans, if
- 12:41Speaker 1: you're listening, if you don't remember, Donald's the plan is
- 12:44Speaker 1: he's gonna have his mole removed and they're gonna graft
- 12:47Speaker 1: skin from his ass, and so everyone starts saying, well,
- 12:51Speaker 1: your name's gonna be butt face, then my name will
- 12:54Speaker 1: not be butt face. It's not gonna have Turke runs
- 12:56Speaker 1: around hospital, but you will not be calling me butt face.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Is not gonna happened, and Elliott goes to town with it. Yeah,
- 13:03Speaker 1: I thought I thought it was interesting that the writers
- 13:06Speaker 1: snuck in that Cox had been there for sixty straight hours.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I guess most of us have never worked sixty straight hours,
- 13:13Speaker 1: and so I thought that was interesting. And I'm sure
- 13:15Speaker 1: that must have been a gold mine nugget for me
- 13:17Speaker 1: back when I was breaking this thing down, that when
- 13:21Speaker 1: when Brendan does that incompetent puppets thing with Sarah, it
- 13:25Speaker 1: looks effortless. The two of them, it's just effortless. That
- 13:30Speaker 1: was such a great moment for both of them. Yeah,
- 13:32Speaker 1: and then I mean what really kills it though, was
- 13:35Speaker 1: hard walking away and him falling off the counter like
- 13:37Speaker 1: he's still tethered to her, you know what I mean?
- 13:39Speaker 1: It was the two of them. Yeah, they're just both
- 13:43Speaker 1: really I mean, I think Sarah walks on water, but
- 13:46Speaker 1: Brendan also, he's really good. He's really good. Yeah, he's
- 13:51Speaker 1: really good, and watching the episode, you forget how charming is.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Like this man was an absolute movie star, you know
- 13:57Speaker 1: what I mean, like big time movie star, biggest movies,
- 14:00Speaker 1: some of the biggest movies of all time, and so
- 14:03Speaker 1: you forget you you know, you get caught up in
- 14:05Speaker 1: the fact that you're just working with another actor, but
- 14:08Speaker 1: you forget there's a reason why this person has all
- 14:11Speaker 1: of this stuff behind him, all of this energy behind him.
- 14:15Speaker 1: And when you watch it on screen and it shows
- 14:17Speaker 1: you're it's always you're always reminded. Like, so watching this episode,
- 14:21Speaker 1: like right away, it was like, holy shit, it's kind
- 14:24Speaker 1: of a fine it's kind of a self serving, kind
- 14:27Speaker 1: of self rewarding epiphany when you see it and then
- 14:31Speaker 1: you get to realize it. You think, oh, Brendan so
- 14:33Speaker 1: handsome and he's so talented, blah blah blah blah. And
- 14:35Speaker 1: then he just knocks off up a dumb puppet show
- 14:38Speaker 1: with Sarah all right in the middle of the day
- 14:41Speaker 1: the shooting. It's a fourteen hour day and they just
- 14:43Speaker 1: they crush it. Right, Johnny, do you did you have
- 14:47Speaker 1: the experience watching this knowing the reveal at the end
- 14:50Speaker 1: in a new way because neither Donald nor I had
- 14:52Speaker 1: had seen it, you know, since we made it, really
- 14:56Speaker 1: and it was kind of fun to see all the
- 14:57Speaker 1: little easter egg hidden mull when um, you know, knowing
- 15:03Speaker 1: the reveal that you wouldn't know if it was your
- 15:05Speaker 1: first time. But what really struck me was the how
- 15:13Speaker 1: seamless the ensemble is. Everybody is. This is season three,
- 15:18Speaker 1: it's the middle of the season and the writers are cooking.
- 15:22Speaker 1: I guess Garrett and Neil wrote it, Yes, and yeah
- 15:25Speaker 1: they did, and and Chris Kotch is in really good
- 15:29Speaker 1: form directing this thing, and he knows to let the
- 15:31Speaker 1: horses run and every everybody, Judy and Donald and Zachie
- 15:37Speaker 1: kind of lifting the whole first act, kind of carrying
- 15:40Speaker 1: the first act, you know. The pass out through the
- 15:42Speaker 1: bushes is it's fantastic. It's great. And it looks like you.
- 15:47Speaker 1: He looks like he scared the living shit out of
- 15:49Speaker 1: you when he jumps on that car. I think he did.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I think I think there was the giant pad back
- 15:55Speaker 1: there and I just fucking leaped into the air backwards
- 15:58Speaker 1: onto it. It It was awesome. Just establishes a ton of things.
- 16:01Speaker 1: It doesn't look like your acting. It looks like someone
- 16:04Speaker 1: scared the piss out of you. And that that's I
- 16:07Speaker 1: called setting the table. That sets the table, and that
- 16:10Speaker 1: largely tells us a ton about your relationship with him. Um.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I was struck by how great, uh the whole the ensemble,
- 16:20Speaker 1: isn't it? And I heard Donald talking about that scene
- 16:23Speaker 1: with Kenny in the closet and he's just he's money,
- 16:32Speaker 1: Vince Vaughan Ley, He's just money. And you know he
- 16:36Speaker 1: has to affect this crazy almost caricature sometimes and then
- 16:40Speaker 1: when he wants to shift down into it. You can
- 16:43Speaker 1: see that he ran the Shakespeare Festival down in Louisville.
- 16:46Speaker 1: You know he was freaking, you know he was. There's nothing,
- 16:50Speaker 1: there's nothing non veteran about him. And it's that Chris,
- 16:53Speaker 1: that Chris Cootch let him have a no look at
- 16:56Speaker 1: the end of that scene where Judy thanks him or
- 17:00Speaker 1: or whatever. The button is on the scene and he
- 17:03Speaker 1: just doesn't know look exit and it's so clean and
- 17:06Speaker 1: he doesn't have to look back to to accept her
- 17:09Speaker 1: gratitude or anything. He's done. He said what he means
- 17:12Speaker 1: to say. Now he's leaving and it's just really clean.
- 17:17Speaker 1: It's a special moment too. Because you know, like you said,
- 17:19Speaker 1: I think Ken even articulated this when he was on
- 17:21Speaker 1: the show, particularly he was talking about season one. He
- 17:24Speaker 1: felt that he didn't really like it. He felt he
- 17:25Speaker 1: was too cartoonish and he and he wished he'd been
- 17:28Speaker 1: directed to be smaller. I you know, we think he's
- 17:32Speaker 1: hilarious and all of it's perfect, but when you do,
- 17:35Speaker 1: when when Kelso does get a moment like this finally
- 17:37Speaker 1: in season three where it's just can being able to
- 17:40Speaker 1: drop in and be a real, completely empathetic human being, uh,
- 17:46Speaker 1: you really get a glimpse of the level of actor
- 17:49Speaker 1: that he is. It's a it's a it's like sure,
- 17:53Speaker 1: you know, I was watching TV the other night and
- 17:55Speaker 1: Ken was on Deep Star Trek Generation Next Generation and
- 18:00Speaker 1: he's working with Will Wheaton on the show, and it's
- 18:04Speaker 1: a it's a younger Ken Jenkins. It's not you know
- 18:06Speaker 1: Ken Jenkins when he was doing Scrubs and after it's
- 18:09Speaker 1: a much younger Ken Jenkins. And I remember thinking, holy,
- 18:13Speaker 1: you know, he's still he had he had he had
- 18:16Speaker 1: the chops back then. To do Star Trek isn't no
- 18:19Speaker 1: easy feat, you know what I mean, if everybody could,
- 18:22Speaker 1: you know, Star Trek in some ways is like Shakespeare.
- 18:24Speaker 1: You gotta talk science and sound convincing. In a lot
- 18:27Speaker 1: of ways. Ken was able to do it no problem.
- 18:31Speaker 1: It's an easy thing. You watch movies like Courage on
- 18:34Speaker 1: the Fire and he's in scenes with Denzel Washington and
- 18:37Speaker 1: you're like, holy shit, Ken freaking this is something he's
- 18:40Speaker 1: been doing this forever. I can't express it enough. I've
- 18:43Speaker 1: said it from the beginning. He's like the MVP of
- 18:45Speaker 1: our crew man because he takes he takes the hate.
- 18:49Speaker 1: He's the character that everybody loves to hate. He's just
- 18:52Speaker 1: an MVP. Like whenever the hospital is against the whole
- 18:55Speaker 1: the whole cast, it's usually Ken's character. It's usually Kelso's
- 18:59Speaker 1: character who pulls everybody back in to figure shit out,
- 19:02Speaker 1: you know what I mean. You would think it would
- 19:03Speaker 1: be Cox or you would think it would be the
- 19:06Speaker 1: go to mentor, But whenever the hospital's kicking our ass
- 19:10Speaker 1: and not Ken, he's the one that usually turns us around.
- 19:15Speaker 1: All right, Well, let's segue Johnny to the to the end,
- 19:18Speaker 1: because we want to spend a lot of time on
- 19:20Speaker 1: the next episode. So let's talk about this. First of all,
- 19:23Speaker 1: your performance. I joined millions of people in saying, this
- 19:27Speaker 1: is a very very fine performance you give in this episode,
- 19:30Speaker 1: and um, you know some of everyone's I posted this
- 19:34Speaker 1: on Twitter the other day. I said, we're going to
- 19:38Speaker 1: be discussing this moment, and it was a still of
- 19:40Speaker 1: you and me in the moment you have the realization.
- 19:42Speaker 1: And the overwhelming response was like, I'm not ready to cry.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I'm not ready to cry. I can't deal with it
- 19:48Speaker 1: this many years later, I'm still gonna sob So just
- 19:52Speaker 1: talk about in particular that that funeral scene. I mean
- 19:55Speaker 1: you just that moment gives me goose bumps even describing it.
- 19:59Speaker 1: But and when when I when I say, where do
- 20:01Speaker 1: you think we are? And you have this realization? Well
- 20:05Speaker 1: I was. I heard Donald the other day talking about
- 20:08Speaker 1: going through his divorce, and I was shoved deep in
- 20:13Speaker 1: a divorce and I was feeling horribly inadequate as a
- 20:18Speaker 1: dad to a special needs child, and I was going
- 20:21Speaker 1: to the shrink whenever I wasn't on the set, I
- 20:23Speaker 1: was working with Barry, and I was trying to wade myself.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I was trying to chart a course through what was
- 20:32Speaker 1: really confusing to me as a I'll make it up
- 20:35Speaker 1: A forty year old man who was I've never been
- 20:40Speaker 1: more had my chops finer as an actor, and then
- 20:45Speaker 1: off the set, I felt like a complete and utter failure,
- 20:50Speaker 1: and I was trying to reconcile that every single waking second.
- 20:55Speaker 1: And so when I got to do this scene, a
- 21:00Speaker 1: lot of the inadequacies that were profoundly right in the
- 21:05Speaker 1: front of my skull were resonating. And so when you
- 21:10Speaker 1: guys touched me, I couldn't. I couldn't keep it together,
- 21:15Speaker 1: I wrote, I wrote down in my notebook that there
- 21:17Speaker 1: that my tribe is scattered, and it's from a poem
- 21:21Speaker 1: that I found at that time. It's in my notebook
- 21:24Speaker 1: Um with Covid Layers by Stanley Konans. I'll read it
- 21:28Speaker 1: to you. And this was what was going through my head,
- 21:31Speaker 1: or I was trying to keep this in my head.
- 21:33Speaker 1: And then all of all I could think about was
- 21:37Speaker 1: what forty years of trying to do the right thing
- 21:39Speaker 1: and let up to when feeling like an abject failure
- 21:43Speaker 1: as a father and a husband, and coming back to
- 21:47Speaker 1: this house every night solo and the whole thing, it
- 21:52Speaker 1: felt like the floor dropped out. In season three and
- 21:55Speaker 1: that Billy wrote this for Cox's arc dealt more with loss,
- 22:02Speaker 1: and the loss that I was trying to reconcile was,
- 22:06Speaker 1: what do you what's this adding up to? If I
- 22:10Speaker 1: couldn't be everything whatever I perceived as possible to a
- 22:16Speaker 1: two or three year old with special needs and a
- 22:20Speaker 1: failed marriage. And so I came across this thing the layers,
- 22:24Speaker 1: as I'm always searching for ways that resonate for me.
- 22:28Speaker 1: And it's a guy named Stanley Kunitz, and he goes,
- 22:31Speaker 1: I've walked through many lives, some of them my own,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and I am not who I was, though some principle
- 22:37Speaker 1: of being abides, from which I struggle not to stray.
- 22:41Speaker 1: When I look behind, as I'm compelled to look before
- 22:43Speaker 1: I can gather strength to proceed on my journey, I
- 22:46Speaker 1: see the milestones dwindling toward the horizon, and the slow
- 22:49Speaker 1: fires trailing from the abandoned campsites, over which scavenger angels
- 22:54Speaker 1: wheel on heavy wings. Oh, I have made a tribe
- 22:58Speaker 1: out of my true affections, and my tribe is scattered.
- 23:02Speaker 1: How shall the heart be reconciled to its feast of losses?
- 23:06Speaker 1: In a rising wind? The manic dust of my friends,
- 23:09Speaker 1: those who fell along the way bitterly stings my fades.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Yet I turn, I turn, exalting somewhat with my will
- 23:17Speaker 1: intact to go wherever I need to go. And every
- 23:20Speaker 1: stone of the road presses to me. In my darkest night,
- 23:24Speaker 1: when the moon's covered and I roamed through the wreckage,
- 23:27Speaker 1: a nimbus clouded voice directed me live in the layers,
- 23:32Speaker 1: not on the litter. And though I lack the art
- 23:34Speaker 1: to decipher it, no doubt the next chapter of my
- 23:36Speaker 1: book of transformations is already written. And I am not
- 23:40Speaker 1: done with my changes. And that's what I brought to
- 23:42Speaker 1: that funeral, and it resonates to me for me to
- 23:47Speaker 1: this day. And because I couldn't organize what I couldn't
- 23:53Speaker 1: organize what was going on in the shrink's office every
- 23:55Speaker 1: day away from the set, and so I needed to
- 23:58Speaker 1: lean into Cunan his piece. And then you guys were
- 24:02Speaker 1: unbelievably supportive. And ah, we had Olympia Tococcus as a
- 24:07Speaker 1: master teacher at NYU, and one of her the whole
- 24:10Speaker 1: things about weeping in front of the class, which is
- 24:13Speaker 1: all actors want to do. She used to say that
- 24:16Speaker 1: in Vegas terms, when you go to Vegas, there's a
- 24:19Speaker 1: shoe which is about eight decks of cards and they're
- 24:22Speaker 1: all shuffled. And she always told us to keep a
- 24:25Speaker 1: few in the shoe. And I tried. I tried, but
- 24:29Speaker 1: I couldn't keep it together. It's tough. That's that's a
- 24:33Speaker 1: very hard you know. There are some actors who can
- 24:35Speaker 1: do that, and God bless them, and that's why they
- 24:38Speaker 1: win awards and the freaking Academy Awards and stuff. But
- 24:41Speaker 1: once I get to the point where I release, it's
- 24:44Speaker 1: coming out. It's coming. It's not stopping. I'm sorry. I
- 24:47Speaker 1: wish I could stop it. I wish I could pull
- 24:49Speaker 1: it back in and then regenerate that energy again. But
- 24:52Speaker 1: once it starts, it's like keeping let's roll, just keep
- 24:56Speaker 1: rolling and start all over, or however we need to
- 24:59Speaker 1: get this because I'm going to I can't stop crying.
- 25:01Speaker 1: I have such a hard time at that. You know what,
- 25:03Speaker 1: It's really powerful, Johnny, when the camera pushes in on
- 25:05Speaker 1: you and you're crying and you allow JD to put
- 25:12Speaker 1: his hand on his shoulder. I thought that was very
- 25:14Speaker 1: moving because that's all that's all you're going to allow,
- 25:16Speaker 1: and that's all JD, you know, reads the moment, and
- 25:20Speaker 1: that's all It's appropriate obviously, and then the camera pushes
- 25:23Speaker 1: in on you and your crying, but you also see
- 25:25Speaker 1: your jaw, your classic Johnny c jaw moving, and I
- 25:29Speaker 1: was thinking that, like Cox is is just going to
- 25:35Speaker 1: be as still in stoic as he can, but he
- 25:39Speaker 1: as he usually is, but he can't control the fact
- 25:42Speaker 1: that these tears are just going to start streaming down
- 25:44Speaker 1: his face. And so my interpretation was the muscles in
- 25:47Speaker 1: your face were like it was everything he could do
- 25:50Speaker 1: to try and fight the emotion, but he but he
- 25:53Speaker 1: was losing that battle and they were just going to
- 25:55Speaker 1: fly down his face. I could hear Olympia saying keep
- 25:58Speaker 1: a few in the shoe, and yeah, I was battling.
- 26:00Speaker 1: And I love when we can see actors battle against shit.
- 26:03Speaker 1: But yeah, I will also tell you, in all fairness,
- 26:06Speaker 1: when when I think Christoph first and then and then
- 26:09Speaker 1: you touched me, there was no Cox there that I
- 26:13Speaker 1: was craving human engagement. That wasn't Cox, that was I
- 26:17Speaker 1: was McKinley. I was like somebody fucking yeah, And none
- 26:23Speaker 1: of that was written. We just kind of, like I
- 26:25Speaker 1: think we both Kristy and I um figured out what
- 26:29Speaker 1: we would do in that situation, you know, It's a
- 26:33Speaker 1: powerful thing that Jordan, the way Jordan is. You know,
- 26:35Speaker 1: she's selfless in in this situation where you know, she
- 26:41Speaker 1: lost her brother, but she understands that Cox is hurting
- 26:46Speaker 1: way more than she is. You know, she might be
- 26:49Speaker 1: hurting just as much as he is, but she's willing
- 26:51Speaker 1: to sacrifice that pain and push that pain down. Now
- 26:55Speaker 1: we're kind of jumping into the next episode, but she's
- 26:57Speaker 1: willing to sacrifice that pain and push it down, bury
- 27:02Speaker 1: it to support her fragile husband and that or fragile boyfriend.
- 27:07Speaker 1: And I thought that was I thought that was really powerful.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I thought that was very, very, very very We didn't
- 27:14Speaker 1: we don't ever see that of Jordan, you know. And
- 27:17Speaker 1: and well, I think, you know, if you think, if
- 27:20Speaker 1: you take the inspiration, Jordan is like Christa in in
- 27:24Speaker 1: a lot of ways. Well, I was gonna say, you know,
- 27:26Speaker 1: it took a while for Christa to warm up too,
- 27:28Speaker 1: Like no, but I'm saying I'll tell you Christa has
- 27:31Speaker 1: a lot in common with Jordan. She's obviously written for
- 27:33Speaker 1: and she can be very tough and hardened. But then
- 27:37Speaker 1: when you get to know where and the moment calls
- 27:39Speaker 1: for it, you will not find a more loyal, loving,
- 27:41Speaker 1: care the supported person. I've had some dark moments in
- 27:45Speaker 1: my life and that woman has always been there for
- 27:48Speaker 1: me and said come over and we're gonna have wine
- 27:51Speaker 1: and we're gonna talk, and she and so, you know,
- 27:56Speaker 1: just like the just like Christa, I think Jordan New
- 28:01Speaker 1: in this particular moment, even though it's my brother, I'm
- 28:03Speaker 1: it isn't hitting me like it's hitting my person I love,
- 28:06Speaker 1: So forget my needs. I'm going to take care of
- 28:08Speaker 1: this man selfless. I was. I'm very comfortable in post.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I had a post production company in the Brill Building
- 28:17Speaker 1: for almost fifteen years, and as you guys know, I
- 28:20Speaker 1: used to go the editing department was right in the
- 28:23Speaker 1: hospital where we're shooting, and I used to go down
- 28:26Speaker 1: there with Rick Blue and John Michelle and I watched
- 28:29Speaker 1: stuff because if I didn't have anything to do, I
- 28:31Speaker 1: want to pastor them. And so I saw the moment
- 28:33Speaker 1: where Zachie goes, where do you think you are? And
- 28:36Speaker 1: then it's a two shot and Cox turns towards the
- 28:40Speaker 1: lens and he figures it out and John Michelle had
- 28:43Speaker 1: cut off and way too quick before he realized where
- 28:45Speaker 1: he was. And you got to you got you've got
- 28:49Speaker 1: to stay on Cox until he does that dopey smile
- 28:52Speaker 1: acknowledging that he knows where he is. And it's an
- 28:55Speaker 1: I said, even if it's an ad of two seconds,
- 28:57Speaker 1: take it, take it somewhere else, take it away somewhere
- 29:00Speaker 1: and you could argue over two and a half seconds
- 29:02Speaker 1: like the Magna Carter because the show was so tight.
- 29:06Speaker 1: And to his eternal credit, he stays on Cox and
- 29:10Speaker 1: Jackie until Cox realizes and he does that kind of
- 29:14Speaker 1: smile that this is not a kid's birthday party. This is,
- 29:18Speaker 1: in fact a funeral. And that's what changed the whole
- 29:20Speaker 1: episode for me, that John Michelle stayed on him long
- 29:23Speaker 1: enough so we could see this guy arrived at a
- 29:26Speaker 1: conclusion and instead of just banging that big crane shot,
- 29:31Speaker 1: which is what we go to next, and we got
- 29:33Speaker 1: to see this guy arrived at what's going on. And
- 29:38Speaker 1: when John Michelle did that, it changed the whole thing
- 29:40Speaker 1: to me. It's also a nice cut that shows that
- 29:42Speaker 1: Ben's no longer there. That's really gratifying. Yeah, I mean,
- 29:45Speaker 1: that's the that's the you know, those two moments combined
- 29:47Speaker 1: are the holy shit moment that big reveal you know
- 29:52Speaker 1: we were, I know you were talking about it. It
- 29:54Speaker 1: struck me so different, man. It's like there's so many
- 29:57Speaker 1: hints and so many clues that he's not there. One
- 30:00Speaker 1: being the camera Johnny, did you know the camera one?
- 30:03Speaker 1: I didn't really know the camera one until I read
- 30:04Speaker 1: it on the web. No, what's the camera one? So
- 30:07Speaker 1: he says, you say, you still messing around with that
- 30:10Speaker 1: stupid cameras all the time, And he goes, I'll be
- 30:12Speaker 1: taking pictures till the day I die. And the moment
- 30:16Speaker 1: he shows the moment he shows up as a hallucination.
- 30:19Speaker 1: He no longer has a camera with him anymore. Totally
- 30:22Speaker 1: missed it till you just told me. I did I
- 30:24Speaker 1: have to say? I had to say. I read it online.
- 30:26Speaker 1: I didn't get it myself. But it's great, all right,
- 30:30Speaker 1: Why don't we segue Donald's as good podcast host? Should
- 30:33Speaker 1: we take a break? Probably, Dan, let's take a break,
- 30:35Speaker 1: and when we come back, we'll hum the new one,
- 30:39Speaker 1: which is um the episode is called My Tormented mentor
- 30:43Speaker 1: will be right back after these fine words formember back
- 30:57Speaker 1: when we well listen, do we not deliver? You guys
- 30:59Speaker 1: said we want more? John C McGinley, and here he is.
- 31:02Speaker 1: We delivered, and we're going to talk about a great
- 31:05Speaker 1: episode that continues Cox's recovering from losing his best friend,
- 31:10Speaker 1: my tormented mentor, which introduces a new character named doctor
- 31:14Speaker 1: Grace Miller played by Bellamy Young. She's she gets the
- 31:19Speaker 1: gorgeous woman scrubs intro, only to reveal that she's sort
- 31:24Speaker 1: of the female equivalent tough ass talking doctor Cox type.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Do you want me to do the recap or would
- 31:30Speaker 1: you rather I do? I was just just trying to
- 31:33Speaker 1: get a Bellamy shout out in that, and you know,
- 31:35Speaker 1: because usually what happens is I do a recap and
- 31:38Speaker 1: then we start talking about the I'm sorry, Donald, I
- 31:40Speaker 1: got excited to introduce Bellamy Young, but let me get
- 31:43Speaker 1: my stop Watch out. I too, am a Bellamy Young fan.
- 31:48Speaker 1: I only drove a scandal. I only do this stop
- 31:52Speaker 1: Watch thing for the guy who makes the graph. That's
- 31:54Speaker 1: the really only reason I keep doing. All Right, we're
- 31:59Speaker 1: ready on your marks, gets that go. Cox is having
- 32:02Speaker 1: a hard time getting ober Ben's death. JD wants to
- 32:05Speaker 1: be the shoulder Cox needs to lean on. There's a
- 32:08Speaker 1: new boss in the r and all the Scalpel jockeys
- 32:11Speaker 1: don't know how to act around her. All the women
- 32:15Speaker 1: in the hospital are frustrated and fed up with the
- 32:17Speaker 1: lack of respect they received from their male counterparts. It's
- 32:20Speaker 1: a conversation that's been on the table for decades and
- 32:23Speaker 1: still needs to be addressed. After all these years, equality
- 32:26Speaker 1: in the workplace still hasn't come to fruition. This is
- 32:30Speaker 1: one of those issues that will be addressed until the
- 32:33Speaker 1: matter is settled. And I'm all for that, Amen, Donald,
- 32:38Speaker 1: thirty five seconds, graph guy. It's fascinating that we're having
- 32:42Speaker 1: these conversations back when we were doing this in two
- 32:45Speaker 1: thousand and four, And of course they've become so much
- 32:50Speaker 1: more in the public discourse now with the Me Too movement.
- 32:54Speaker 1: But here we are in two thousand and four. They're
- 32:58Speaker 1: having to put out a sort of a suggestion box
- 33:01Speaker 1: type thing where if you're feeling like you're being sexually
- 33:04Speaker 1: harassed you can report people. Um, and the two main
- 33:08Speaker 1: people uh in the room are Kelso and the Todd Yes, well,
- 33:12Speaker 1: we knew that Todd would be in there, yeah, And
- 33:14Speaker 1: we kind of knew that Kelso would be in there, yeah,
- 33:17Speaker 1: you know, but we didn't know that Cox was going
- 33:19Speaker 1: to be in there. Now Cox is in there for
- 33:20Speaker 1: calling me girls names. It's not nearly as egregious as
- 33:23Speaker 1: the ship that the Todds is on. You, Zach Well,
- 33:31Speaker 1: I thought it was pretty funny that, Um, I mean,
- 33:34Speaker 1: they decided to make Todd so fucking stupid. He's washing
- 33:38Speaker 1: the dude. Not only is he one he can't spell,
- 33:41Speaker 1: we learned it. Todd is a dummy. He can't spell. No,
- 33:44Speaker 1: he's washing his hands. He's a surgeon. He's washing his
- 33:46Speaker 1: hands with gloves on. Right, But I think right, but
- 33:49Speaker 1: I think he's right. What a moron? Not only that
- 33:51Speaker 1: he goes to the sexual harassment meeting with an I
- 33:53Speaker 1: Love Vagina t shirt? What kind of moron is that?
- 33:58Speaker 1: The great got it? I got a circle back. I
- 34:00Speaker 1: can't remember if you guys told the story or if
- 34:02Speaker 1: our creator. That's how I'm gonna refer to Billy from
- 34:05Speaker 1: that one, as if our creator told the story. But
- 34:09Speaker 1: when we first started early on, Billy gathered everybody in
- 34:13Speaker 1: what is the cafeteria where we should is the biggest
- 34:17Speaker 1: room in the hospital, the whole cast and crew, and
- 34:20Speaker 1: I'll make it up to one hundred and ten people
- 34:22Speaker 1: or so, and he did his no asshole policy speech,
- 34:27Speaker 1: and what he meant was, you don't have to come
- 34:29Speaker 1: to work and be on pins and needles, but you
- 34:32Speaker 1: have to come to work and treat each other with respect.
- 34:35Speaker 1: And Billy, who does not like confrontation and is not
- 34:39Speaker 1: mister tough guy, when he laid that down, he meant it.
- 34:42Speaker 1: And so if you come to work and you're an asshole,
- 34:45Speaker 1: and this circles right back into the sexual harassment, but
- 34:48Speaker 1: he wasn't just talking about sexual harassment. That if you
- 34:51Speaker 1: can't be nice to each other, you will be fired.
- 34:54Speaker 1: And subsequently a couple of people were for breaking the
- 34:57Speaker 1: no asshole policy. And I've brought that with to a
- 35:00Speaker 1: couple of different things that I've produced since I bring
- 35:04Speaker 1: the casting crew around. I'm sure not as elegant and
- 35:06Speaker 1: graceful as Billy doing it, but if you can't be nice,
- 35:10Speaker 1: and Billy knew one thing we didn't that we were
- 35:12Speaker 1: going to be there for quite a while as far
- 35:14Speaker 1: as years go, and he introduced the no asshole policy,
- 35:19Speaker 1: and I've stolen it on everything I do. Everything I produced,
- 35:22Speaker 1: I tell the casting crew there's a no asshole policy here.
- 35:25Speaker 1: You can do whatever you want, but be nice or
- 35:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna fire you. Yeah, that's great, you know, I
- 35:30Speaker 1: just can't put his money where his mouth was. I
- 35:33Speaker 1: don't understand how you can go to work and just
- 35:35Speaker 1: be an asshole. Like, there's a lot of pricks out there.
- 35:38Speaker 1: There's a lot of assholes out there, you know. Whenever
- 35:40Speaker 1: I started, whenever you start a new job, I had
- 35:43Speaker 1: a friend who would always be like, who's the asshole?
- 35:46Speaker 1: Like you'd have to find out who they are? So
- 35:48Speaker 1: let me ask a question. And if I'm wrong, I'm wrong,
- 35:50Speaker 1: but I want to ask this question. If somebody's being
- 35:54Speaker 1: an asshole, right, is it just you're fired? Or if
- 36:02Speaker 1: somebody's being an asshole, at what point does it become
- 36:05Speaker 1: all right? I can't take this anymore. You are going
- 36:09Speaker 1: to be escorted out of here. Seems really nearly fired people.
- 36:13Speaker 1: You have to they have to be doing something that
- 36:16Speaker 1: is affecting the workplace, and in this obviously in this
- 36:19Speaker 1: case of sexual harassment, but it could be um, you know,
- 36:24Speaker 1: just being a hard especially on a movie set, someone
- 36:27Speaker 1: who's just bringing a toxic energy and and and making
- 36:30Speaker 1: everyone not do their their best. Um. There are lots
- 36:34Speaker 1: of times when characters get written off of shows and
- 36:37Speaker 1: it's for no other reason that everyone was like fuck this.
- 36:41Speaker 1: But I think, by the way, this is not exclusive
- 36:43Speaker 1: to actors, because yeah, I'm about to say somebody people
- 36:49Speaker 1: were not actors. Yo. No, I don't think any of
- 36:51Speaker 1: the more actors. But I'm saying I was using the
- 36:55Speaker 1: story of the times that when you hear like creative differences,
- 37:00Speaker 1: that often means the person these were an asshole. Right.
- 37:05Speaker 1: I always dot admit they just saw differently than the
- 37:08Speaker 1: director saw it. But yeah, I get it. Well. I
- 37:10Speaker 1: mean sometimes that you know a lot of times when
- 37:14Speaker 1: it's like date date conflicts, it's like no conflicts, The
- 37:21Speaker 1: dates didn't conflict. The person was like, I gotta tell you,
- 37:23Speaker 1: I thought Laverne had a couple of a couple of
- 37:26Speaker 1: one liners here to drop me. The Hilton sisters thing,
- 37:28Speaker 1: yes when she goes other way around, sugar, and then
- 37:31Speaker 1: when she when she drops mister Roberts flex to wear
- 37:34Speaker 1: my proceeds. Yeah, and she does it so dead, so dead.
- 37:40Speaker 1: So if LaVerne's story is true, and we don't really know, um,
- 37:45Speaker 1: mister and missus Hilton named their two daughters after LaVerne's breath. Now,
- 37:50Speaker 1: I'm not sure how that would have transpired, but she
- 37:55Speaker 1: just yeah, she's very funny. Also tell Uni maybe maybe
- 38:03Speaker 1: left no whack back to anybody's unibrow, But that made
- 38:05Speaker 1: me left, he said, my waxers in the Bahamas? What
- 38:09Speaker 1: was I supposed to do? Get another one that came
- 38:13Speaker 1: out of nowhere? I mean, why does Todd just randomly
- 38:15Speaker 1: have a unibrow? There's no other reference to it. It's
- 38:17Speaker 1: just it's just that's writers climbing the wall in season three,
- 38:24Speaker 1: I love, I would love. I'm thinking that would be
- 38:26Speaker 1: the funniest thing to be in the writer's room, be like,
- 38:27Speaker 1: all right, who's going to be in charge of writing
- 38:29Speaker 1: the Todd jokes for this episode? So you know, uh,
- 38:34Speaker 1: do you know that the writer's rooms there were two
- 38:38Speaker 1: before the strike, there was seven in each room and
- 38:40Speaker 1: Bill with leapfrog back and forth as each episode was written.
- 38:44Speaker 1: It was the psychiatric ward of the hospital. Yeah. Yeah,
- 38:48Speaker 1: imagine the energy that was steward in those rooms. Absolutely. Um.
- 38:53Speaker 1: How about when when Donald goes to Todd hot chick
- 38:57Speaker 1: at twelve o'clock and he looks at and he looks up,
- 39:02Speaker 1: what a moron is a hot cheek on the ceiling? Right,
- 39:06Speaker 1: He's a moron? So the janitor and Ted we learn um, Yes,
- 39:12Speaker 1: this is a joke that not a lot of people
- 39:13Speaker 1: paid attention to. Not a lot of people paid attention
- 39:16Speaker 1: to this joke, because this joke should have been running
- 39:18Speaker 1: for it. Ever, this is a joke that could have
- 39:21Speaker 1: gone on and on and on and on and on.
- 39:23Speaker 1: We learned that the janitor and Ted frequent a Korean
- 39:27Speaker 1: singles night at a Korean church, and the janitor brings
- 39:33Speaker 1: the date to the work the next day. I mean,
- 39:36Speaker 1: are we supposed to infer that she's left over? And
- 39:40Speaker 1: also it turns out that he's multi lingual. Yeah, yes,
- 39:44Speaker 1: they both are. They both are they well, they both
- 39:48Speaker 1: know enough conversational Korean Johnny to hit on on Korean
- 39:52Speaker 1: single women. It's it's not unusual, but for some reason,
- 39:57Speaker 1: I guess because I don't get to watch them all.
- 39:59Speaker 1: But when every time Sam opens his mouth and off
- 40:02Speaker 1: freaking episodes, I'm dying when he dumps that fucking cookie. Yeah,
- 40:13Speaker 1: never have been such a great spin off of all
- 40:15Speaker 1: the secondary characters, like custodians, great legal custodians. But I
- 40:20Speaker 1: mean like going into the lives of you know, I
- 40:23Speaker 1: don't know, you know, how these days a show will
- 40:26Speaker 1: do something like a totally different episode. You know, there
- 40:29Speaker 1: was an episode of Master of None that was went
- 40:31Speaker 1: off and started following people that had never been in
- 40:33Speaker 1: the show before, and then at the end it had
- 40:35Speaker 1: it had a purpose, and it was really cool. If
- 40:37Speaker 1: we were making this show today, you could do a
- 40:39Speaker 1: whole episode where was like we just follow Sam and
- 40:42Speaker 1: like it's like he's not even in the hostel. He
- 40:44Speaker 1: has like he has like a week off. I just
- 40:46Speaker 1: want to follow a week of Ted's Like, I gotta
- 40:53Speaker 1: tell you. I've told you this before, but you dancing
- 40:56Speaker 1: is the biggest gift to the writer's room in the
- 40:59Speaker 1: history of the world. They use it with everything. It's
- 41:02Speaker 1: it's we need, we need, we need a special moment
- 41:05Speaker 1: Donald dance. It was good though it was gold. I'd forgotten.
- 41:08Speaker 1: You know, your other one gets so much attention. I
- 41:10Speaker 1: didn't remember this moment. I didn't either. I didn't remember
- 41:14Speaker 1: it either. Now are you singing MC hammer? Yes? But
- 41:19Speaker 1: is hammer playing on the boombox? Or is it you
- 41:22Speaker 1: playing hammer on the boombox? No, it's it's it's it's
- 41:25Speaker 1: not hammer on the It's not hammer. She calls me
- 41:29Speaker 1: hammer because of my dancing. Oh, but I say a
- 41:31Speaker 1: rap going, or you're just rapping something? What are you?
- 41:34Speaker 1: Are you rapping? I forgot. I think there's a rap going.
- 41:36Speaker 1: I think there's music. I only ask because on scrubs
- 41:38Speaker 1: Wiki it says um that it's here comes the Hammer
- 41:42Speaker 1: originally by Hammer, performed by Donald Fazon. That's not true.
- 41:49Speaker 1: It's not true. No, that wasn't me rapping. That wasn't
- 41:52Speaker 1: that wass Wicky? Well, what's what's his name? Trevor, Yeah, Trevor, Yeah, Trevor,
- 41:57Speaker 1: get it together, Trevor. Actually, let's try Trevor here, Daniel
- 42:00Speaker 1: and Joel, Trevor, do you know that that's sorry, we've
- 42:04Speaker 1: we've discovered a mistake on scrubs. Wicky. You can you
- 42:07Speaker 1: can try and defend it right now if you want to, Trevor. Yeah, Trevor,
- 42:10Speaker 1: How would you let such a horrible mistake get through
- 42:13Speaker 1: on scrubs? Wicki, that is not Donald rapping as MC hammer.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Are you saying all African Americans sound alike? Trevor, trev
- 42:24Speaker 1: trev you don't have to answer that. You don't have
- 42:28Speaker 1: to answer that. You walk away from that one, because
- 42:32Speaker 1: you're in trouble if you answer that one. All right,
- 42:35Speaker 1: he's been he's been disciplined. There's no way to answer that. Hey,
- 42:38Speaker 1: there's Zach, Donald, Joel and Daniel. It's the Internet. It's
- 42:42Speaker 1: littered with misinformation. Apologies about the error on the wiki.
- 42:46Speaker 1: I fixed the edit that Donald was the one rapping.
- 42:49Speaker 1: I think I was just mesmerized by his dancing. Johnny,
- 42:52Speaker 1: Is that a Star Wars pinball machine in your back round?
- 42:55Speaker 1: It is absolutely? Oh my god, Donald, did you know
- 42:59Speaker 1: that in Indiana? John One? Oh my god, Donald, did
- 43:01Speaker 1: you know that? Yeah? He showed it to me. Okay,
- 43:04Speaker 1: how is the golf game, Johnny? Was? Was it fun
- 43:08Speaker 1: to swing the axe with Donald? I like to play
- 43:13Speaker 1: by myself because I like to play against the course
- 43:15Speaker 1: and see how close I can get to par. That's
- 43:17Speaker 1: kind of the way I play golf because I don't
- 43:18Speaker 1: bet and I don't drink on the golf course. And
- 43:22Speaker 1: so a kindred spirit is Donald, who obviously is a
- 43:26Speaker 1: much better athlete than I am. He has better feet,
- 43:27Speaker 1: he has better hands, he has a better swing, and
- 43:30Speaker 1: to be able to be with him for an hour
- 43:32Speaker 1: and a half was spectacular. Was amazing. Man. It was
- 43:35Speaker 1: such a good time, and I wish I can get
- 43:37Speaker 1: back there. It's just that for some reason. Now every
- 43:41Speaker 1: Thursday or Wednesday, I'm fucking working. It seems like I
- 43:45Speaker 1: don't know how that great conflict but nowhere. I love
- 43:51Speaker 1: that you invite him to a nice course, because this
- 43:53Speaker 1: guy is often playing not the nicest courses, and he
- 43:57Speaker 1: loves golf so much, so if you anytime, you can
- 43:59Speaker 1: bring him to one of those swanky places as as
- 44:02Speaker 1: his his joy. I want to join, man, I want
- 44:05Speaker 1: to join, but we are in a pandemic right now,
- 44:07Speaker 1: and my wife ain't let me spend no money. I
- 44:10Speaker 1: will say that when when you and Sarah are talking
- 44:15Speaker 1: about the conflict between a female doctor or an Afrian
- 44:18Speaker 1: American doctor and then doctor Rhodes watched me. Yeah, I
- 44:25Speaker 1: don't remember the stuff, and so what I remember it
- 44:27Speaker 1: smacks me. It's great that I do remember that. I
- 44:30Speaker 1: remembered that when I did remember, Wait, who wrote this?
- 44:34Speaker 1: This was no Gabby? Gabby wrote it. Gabby got skills?
- 44:39Speaker 1: Yes she does, yeah he on did you hear on
- 44:41Speaker 1: the show? No, we had Gabby on the show. She
- 44:45Speaker 1: didn't watch the episode. She missed the memo that now
- 44:50Speaker 1: I got something to listen to tomorrow morning. She missed
- 44:52Speaker 1: a memo that you supposed to watch the episode before
- 44:55Speaker 1: she came on. So she came on. She came, but
- 44:57Speaker 1: she came on the show and she was like, I
- 44:58Speaker 1: love the podcast. It's such a great podcast. But she
- 45:02Speaker 1: had never listened to whatever. Yeah, I remember this. M
- 45:11Speaker 1: the two guest ladies who were playing Jordan's friends, they
- 45:17Speaker 1: were very nice. But here's the conundrum. I sound like you.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Here's the conundrum. Am Beth David's who played one of them,
- 45:25Speaker 1: had a horrible cold, like like should have been in
- 45:28Speaker 1: bed cold, and they had to mount me in that
- 45:33Speaker 1: vampire fantasy, and I remember thinking like this is I'm
- 45:37Speaker 1: so gonna get fight. Like obviously normally when you see
- 45:39Speaker 1: someone who super sick and they're like sorry, I'm saying
- 45:41Speaker 1: you're like go away, go away, don't come near me.
- 45:43Speaker 1: I had to like make out with this woman, and
- 45:46Speaker 1: so she's like mounting me with her I should be
- 45:50Speaker 1: in bed cold and chopping on my neck and I
- 45:53Speaker 1: remember thinking like, ops, know, well, this was back in
- 46:02Speaker 1: the day before you could get knocked on your ass
- 46:05Speaker 1: from shit like. So she goes on to either she
- 46:08Speaker 1: goes on to either have already done or will do
- 46:11Speaker 1: Schindler's List. I think she had already done. Yeah, she
- 46:15Speaker 1: had done it already. Yeah. What years? Uh is that? Daniel?
- 46:19Speaker 1: Can you get that first? Real quick? What years should
- 46:22Speaker 1: she spectacular Shindler's list? Um, Yeah, she's got a big career.
- 46:26Speaker 1: She's been in lots of things. Ninety three. Oh yeah,
- 46:30Speaker 1: so that was long time. And who is who is
- 46:32Speaker 1: the other young woman? Who is? I have scrubs? WICKI open,
- 46:36Speaker 1: I can tell you Ulie Julie Warner, oh white? And
- 46:40Speaker 1: she she played with Michael J. Fox in Doc Hollywood.
- 46:43Speaker 1: I think, yeah, so anyway possible. They were they were great,
- 46:47Speaker 1: and they were great and did a fun job. But
- 46:49Speaker 1: my memory is that she had to both pros. Yeah, yeah,
- 46:53Speaker 1: she had to be a real trooper because she just
- 46:56Speaker 1: had to do it. And I had to pray to
- 46:59Speaker 1: yeah way that. Um, I didn't get sick, all right, Yeah,
- 47:02Speaker 1: you're right, Doc Hollywood. Absolutely? Um did you laugh when
- 47:07Speaker 1: I hide in the cabinet amongst the stuffed animals? Like
- 47:10Speaker 1: et always funny, always funny? Um, I like young Bob
- 47:21Speaker 1: kelso doing was worth worth? And and then and then
- 47:28Speaker 1: Todd listening to Annie of all father, Yeah decided he
- 47:34Speaker 1: was listening to Annie. Well, I think they were trying
- 47:36Speaker 1: to sit. I don't know what were they trying to say?
- 47:38Speaker 1: His father it is hard that his father was, that
- 47:40Speaker 1: his father was hard on him so that when he
- 47:42Speaker 1: came out of it, he goes, it was a hard
- 47:44Speaker 1: knock life. Yeah, but no, but his father was like
- 47:48Speaker 1: supposed to be like Todd. But then but Todd's not listening.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Todd's listening to the Annie soundtrack, So I don't know,
- 47:53Speaker 1: I don't really understand the fantasy. But his dad's not
- 47:55Speaker 1: like Todd. His dad's drinking beer and all of that stuff.
- 48:00Speaker 1: His dad's like it seemed like his dad was an
- 48:01Speaker 1: abusive dad. No, his dad was talking. Wasn't his dad
- 48:04Speaker 1: saying something about women? And which would be like that's
- 48:06Speaker 1: where he got it from. But then Todd's like, Dad,
- 48:08Speaker 1: I'm listening to Annie. Yeah, I guess I don't understand. Also, Zachie,
- 48:13Speaker 1: when you carry I love when actors have a preoccupation,
- 48:15Speaker 1: in other word, something that's happening outside of frame for
- 48:18Speaker 1: the character. And so when you bring in you're a
- 48:22Speaker 1: canary in the coal mine here, or I'm sorry, you're
- 48:24Speaker 1: you're the cat who ate the canary. When you come
- 48:27Speaker 1: in and you you're going you know, you're already reported
- 48:30Speaker 1: Cox for sexual but you don't tell him. And then
- 48:35Speaker 1: Ted comes in and pays it off. It's you look
- 48:39Speaker 1: like you have the secrets to some unbelievably crazy thing
- 48:44Speaker 1: and it's great. It's and the lens just devows that stuff.
- 48:48Speaker 1: Oh man, Yeah, I wondered. I was like, why is
- 48:50Speaker 1: he running off so fast? Why is he doing this?
- 48:54Speaker 1: And then Ted comes up and explains it. How about
- 48:57Speaker 1: the fact that Todd is actually proud of his sexual
- 49:00Speaker 1: harassment compliments? Yeah, yeah, says she says forty seven or
- 49:04Speaker 1: whatever the number. Yes, um, and Judy goes the term
- 49:09Speaker 1: melons is just as bad as sweater meat. Sweater meat
- 49:17Speaker 1: as as usual. I don't want to get in trouble
- 49:20Speaker 1: for uh not for separating. But Judy looks absolutely spectacular always,
- 49:28Speaker 1: not that she doesn't always, Okay, I want to get that,
- 49:30Speaker 1: but she looks absolutely She's a knockout. She's a knockout
- 49:35Speaker 1: or Judy Yes, I love the fact that she's put
- 49:38Speaker 1: in charge of the sexual harassment meetings and can't get
- 49:40Speaker 1: anybody to show up to the to the meetings. I
- 49:42Speaker 1: love it. Well. The only I think she got everyone
- 49:44Speaker 1: that was in the box right, She got she gets
- 49:46Speaker 1: everyone in a button right, and then she has to
- 49:49Speaker 1: explain to them why they're there. And I don't. I
- 49:53Speaker 1: don't get the Todd one. I do get the kin one.
- 49:55Speaker 1: I do get the kind one. He's from another era.
- 49:58Speaker 1: But Tom should be out on his ass, dude, I'm sorry, Well,
- 50:00Speaker 1: that dude should be out on his ass. Todd would
- 50:03Speaker 1: be so fired in twenty twenty. Oh my god. We
- 50:05Speaker 1: used to have these big meetings and Johnny mentioned the
- 50:08Speaker 1: no asshole policy meetings, but we would also have a
- 50:11Speaker 1: sexual harassment meaning right, and they were really hilarious, not
- 50:18Speaker 1: because of the material, which everyone you know, was digesting,
- 50:20Speaker 1: but the questions that we could ask, many by Donald,
- 50:23Speaker 1: which were very funny. Those are the least effective seminars
- 50:27Speaker 1: in the history of seminars. Yeah, but it did. It
- 50:30Speaker 1: did well until you have somebody ask a question that's like,
- 50:35Speaker 1: oh boy, here we go, you know what I mean,
- 50:37Speaker 1: Like it was there. There were there were a couple
- 50:39Speaker 1: of questions where it was you know, there were a
- 50:41Speaker 1: couple of questions that involved dogs, coup, you know what
- 50:44Speaker 1: I mean. It was. I can't put it. I can't
- 50:46Speaker 1: put a whole room full of comedy writers in all
- 50:48Speaker 1: of us in a room and be like, all right,
- 50:50Speaker 1: you're gonna gonna but it was good. The person who
- 50:52Speaker 1: led it, I remember, was a funny person too, and
- 50:55Speaker 1: so it was. It went fast, all right. The guest
- 50:59Speaker 1: is here? Should we take break? Yes, stud that We'll
- 51:01Speaker 1: be right back with a fancy beautiful guest. You okay,
- 51:12Speaker 1: welcome back, and um here comes Emily. Ladies and gentlemen,
- 51:16Speaker 1: please give it up for the one, the only, the only, Emily. Emily. Hi,
- 51:29Speaker 1: there you are. Oh good, you're lying down, Hire, lying down, Hi, Emily.
- 51:35Speaker 1: Welcome to the program. We have Johnny c McGinley with
- 51:37Speaker 1: us today. Hello, Amma, that's amazing. Hi. We're very we're
- 51:42Speaker 1: very happy you're joining us on the on the podcast.
- 51:45Speaker 1: I don't know if you heard this, Johnny. We may
- 51:46Speaker 1: have mentioned it before you came on, but we've just
- 51:49Speaker 1: been told we are the most downloaded new comedy podcast
- 51:54Speaker 1: on Daniel thunder supplause and then maybe a timpany sort
- 52:01Speaker 1: of finished to that. Don't yeah, like like the end
- 52:04Speaker 1: of Star Wars. Don't don't don't, don't, don't, don't don't do. Emily,
- 52:10Speaker 1: Welcome to the program. Where are you calling from? I'm
- 52:13Speaker 1: calling from Shanghai, China. Oh what time is It's six
- 52:21Speaker 1: am China. This is this is our first call from
- 52:26Speaker 1: from China. Uh, it's my first call from China as well. Um,
- 52:30Speaker 1: I'm in Shanghai right now. We just moved here on
- 52:33Speaker 1: We left on Wednesday from the States, and I guess
- 52:36Speaker 1: today is Saturday. I'm not sure it's Saturday here, right? Yes,
- 52:39Speaker 1: that was quarantine. Did you guys have to quarantine and
- 52:43Speaker 1: all that stuff? Are you quarantine? Right? Yeah? I'm quarantining
- 52:47Speaker 1: right now in a hotel. Um. Yeah, it was a
- 52:50Speaker 1: totally reason for your life move to Shanghai. My husband's career.
- 52:56Speaker 1: They were coming here for a couple of years. Do
- 52:58Speaker 1: you feel about that? Are you do you already resent
- 53:01Speaker 1: him and hate him? Or are you excited? No, I'm
- 53:05Speaker 1: actually a little worried that I'm going to embarrass him
- 53:07Speaker 1: in some way. So that's what I'm mostly concerned about,
- 53:10Speaker 1: is that I'm going to be because I'm the streets.
- 53:14Speaker 1: Well he's at work, and I'm gonna be like arguing
- 53:16Speaker 1: with vendors and you know, just being a crazy American
- 53:19Speaker 1: in Shanghai. Oh that sounds like a fun adventure. Did
- 53:22Speaker 1: you learn the language at all or are you gonna
- 53:24Speaker 1: learn the language? No, it was kind of it wasn't.
- 53:27Speaker 1: We weren't sure if it was going to all come together. So,
- 53:29Speaker 1: you know, I've been working and raising kids and unable
- 53:32Speaker 1: to really put in the time to study, but I
- 53:34Speaker 1: did learn. I'm sorry, Dubuchi, you're going to be a yeah, yeah,
- 53:40Speaker 1: get some basics down. I'm sorry, I'm sorry I don't
- 53:43Speaker 1: speak Chinese. Um, I'm sorry you speak English idea. So sorry, Yeah,
- 53:51Speaker 1: So I'm gonna spend I can't work while I'm here,
- 53:53Speaker 1: so I'm going to spend, you know, however much time
- 53:55Speaker 1: trying to get fluent. So that'll be great, that'll be fun. Well, yeah,
- 53:58Speaker 1: get one of those um apps. They have really helpful apps.
- 54:03Speaker 1: We we we advertise one, don't you advertise? We advertise one? Yeah, Joel,
- 54:07Speaker 1: what's the one we everised? Right? Babbel? Yeah, yeah, we
- 54:10Speaker 1: advertise babbel. Get yourself, get yourself, get yourself some babble
- 54:13Speaker 1: o get myself. So all right, do you have a
- 54:16Speaker 1: question for us? Emily? You have you have Daniel here, Donald,
- 54:20Speaker 1: the legendary Johnny c anything, go ahead, Yeah, so Donald,
- 54:24Speaker 1: my question is actually for you. And yeah, finally you
- 54:27Speaker 1: know something on this podcast for like, however, many episodes
- 54:31Speaker 1: and they don't ever ask me anything. They always ask
- 54:33Speaker 1: zac about Garden State through that and then and then
- 54:36Speaker 1: when then they start asking about kids and family and
- 54:39Speaker 1: they don't want to ask me. They want my wife
- 54:40Speaker 1: to come on the show and come up. I hope
- 54:44Speaker 1: this is something that I can answer, and that's something
- 54:46Speaker 1: that I have to go get my wife for it.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Let's go, Emily, that's better be about the dagab Yeah.
- 54:50Speaker 1: If it's about If it's about Star Wars, I got you.
- 54:54Speaker 1: If it's about Star Wars in China, I got you.
- 54:56Speaker 1: All right, go ahead, Emily. My son's right over there.
- 55:00Speaker 1: He's got a million Star Wars questions that I cannot answer,
- 55:02Speaker 1: even though I'm a huge fan. Okay, so, um, my
- 55:05Speaker 1: question is Donald. So I've been listening to the podcast
- 55:07Speaker 1: obviously for since you guys. You guys started and sometimes
- 55:11Speaker 1: you guys burst into song, which I love. Um, but
- 55:14Speaker 1: I've noticed that you Donald, whenever you start singing something,
- 55:17Speaker 1: you start singing it exactly at the right pitch that
- 55:21Speaker 1: the song was written in and so and that you yeah,
- 55:26Speaker 1: and so I was and that's what I wanted to
- 55:28Speaker 1: ask was do you have perfect pitch? Or I do? Now?
- 55:31Speaker 1: Am take something right now? I do now? I do?
- 55:36Speaker 1: HALLA asked me any any artists out there who needs
- 55:40Speaker 1: like a cover of your song or you just want
- 55:42Speaker 1: to do a collab with me? You heard it from
- 55:44Speaker 1: M I got perfect pitch. I got you you need,
- 55:47Speaker 1: you need, you need, you need a Nate Dog, you
- 55:49Speaker 1: need a you need something like that. I could say,
- 55:51Speaker 1: I I got you know, I got I got a
- 55:52Speaker 1: little bit of something like that. I can't, I can't.
- 55:54Speaker 1: I can't ever be the late great Nate Dog. You
- 55:57Speaker 1: can't ever you can't ever ever ever ever placed a
- 56:00Speaker 1: late great Nate Dog. But I could sing a little
- 56:02Speaker 1: something on your wrap hooks. Um Donald is self deprecating
- 56:06Speaker 1: at times, but has the most incredible voice. And also
- 56:09Speaker 1: he can seamlessly find the harmony too. He always find
- 56:13Speaker 1: the harmony, don't you know? And that lends that lends
- 56:16Speaker 1: to that theory, right, because most people can't do that.
- 56:20Speaker 1: They can't just come in right on the right note.
- 56:22Speaker 1: I think a lot of people, I mean, especially if
- 56:25Speaker 1: you can hear the music, yeah it's easy. But if
- 56:27Speaker 1: you can't hear the music, you know, hey, yeah, I
- 56:32Speaker 1: don't know I don't know. I appreciate you saying that.
- 56:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna want to sing a little something for Emily
- 56:37Speaker 1: in Shanghai. Do you want to sing like something for Christmas?
- 56:39Speaker 1: Like sleigh bells? R? Absolutely? Oh, the weather outside is
- 56:47Speaker 1: frightful with the fire is so delightful. And since there's
- 56:51Speaker 1: no place to go, let it snow, Let it snow,
- 56:55Speaker 1: Let it snow. That's all I know. To the song man.
- 56:57Speaker 1: We finally kiss good night beautiful. Donald and I did
- 57:01Speaker 1: a rendition of Baby It's Cold Outside years ago. That
- 57:07Speaker 1: was a huge hit, although now you can't only say
- 57:10Speaker 1: that song anymore unless you change the lyrics. What's in
- 57:13Speaker 1: this drink? That's probably what about bring Me your afro Comb?
- 57:19Speaker 1: That was funny though in our song it's a fucking brush. Yeah,
- 57:22Speaker 1: that's so. The song. The lyric was she says, Hey,
- 57:25Speaker 1: lend me your comb, and in the song I said, hey,
- 57:28Speaker 1: lend me your afro comb, and he goes, it's a
- 57:30Speaker 1: fucking brush. If you've never seen it, you gotta go
- 57:35Speaker 1: check it out. It was pretty funny. Donald. That was
- 57:37Speaker 1: our first like, we just thought it would be a
- 57:39Speaker 1: silly thing to do, and it went so viral, and
- 57:41Speaker 1: I remember we went to Hawaii and we were watching
- 57:43Speaker 1: the YouTube count. You were like, oh my god, look
- 57:46Speaker 1: what's happening. It was like it was everywhere. Yeah. Um,
- 57:51Speaker 1: all right, Emily, do you have another question? I do,
- 57:55Speaker 1: and and Donald. I'm sorry this is a parenting question,
- 57:57Speaker 1: but I think you could probably answer kick he's not
- 58:00Speaker 1: allowed on this one. Yeah, Johnny, I'm gonna go get
- 58:04Speaker 1: her now just because you didn't know, just because you
- 58:08Speaker 1: did that, I'm going to get her. No, don't go
- 58:09Speaker 1: get her, don't go get her, don't go get her.
- 58:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna do it. Man. You I have a feeling
- 58:14Speaker 1: your fucking whole thing about getting Casey is going to
- 58:16Speaker 1: fucking take a quick hit of the blunt. And we
- 58:18Speaker 1: got Emily, I'm from smoking weed. I'm going to get
- 58:21Speaker 1: safe hold on Okay, Jesus christ A right, sorry, oh
- 58:26Speaker 1: my god. You can commence with your question, yeah, Emily,
- 58:30Speaker 1: and begin your question. Okay. Well, actually first I want
- 58:33Speaker 1: to show you this. So in China, milk comes in
- 58:36Speaker 1: a sack. Okay, okay, is thought that was cool? Okay, Um,
- 58:43Speaker 1: what's your question? Um? Yeah, So my question was, Um,
- 58:47Speaker 1: I have an eight year old and a five year
- 58:49Speaker 1: old and a pretty soon to be born year old.
- 58:53Speaker 1: And it's just a big age difference between eight and
- 58:56Speaker 1: a newborn. And I just wanted to ask how you
- 58:59Speaker 1: manage how do you foster a relationship between your older
- 59:02Speaker 1: kids and your very young kids? And how you yeah, yeah,
- 59:08Speaker 1: she wants to know how you foster old relationship between
- 59:11Speaker 1: your young kids and your old kids. That's Casey Donald's wife. Hi,
- 59:15Speaker 1: it broke, Yeah, it broke. I've been I've been doing
- 59:17Speaker 1: this looks like a sound Oh my god, it broke.
- 59:19Speaker 1: He broke his headphones. You send my voice broke it
- 59:23Speaker 1: word your loud voice. Probably voice broke my headphones. That's
- 59:27Speaker 1: so funny. Oh my god, I forgot Casey. You're a
- 59:31Speaker 1: And say, how did Johnny ce? Casey? We're good. He
- 59:35Speaker 1: looked beautiful. Normally are our go to parenting question? And
- 59:38Speaker 1: we also have Johnny here who has a young children,
- 59:41Speaker 1: but you go first. How do you foster relationship between
- 59:43Speaker 1: an older child and a younger child? How do you
- 59:46Speaker 1: how do you have them all be copacetic? You know what?
- 59:48Speaker 1: Our situation was kind of crazy. Um, you know, Donald
- 59:52Speaker 1: has older kids and we have our little ones. And
- 59:56Speaker 1: Donald booked a job and on the East Coast and
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: a week before he left, the kid the older kids said,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: we're moving in. And then Donald said, so the older
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: kids are going to move in, and I'm gonna move
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: to New York. So, um, we kind of just got
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: thrown into it and and it was sink or swim,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: and thankfully we all swam. But um, you know what
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: I just did. Very this is just my own thing.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: I grew up in a divorced family. Until this day,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: no one has ever said a negative thing about the other.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: And so I'm a firm believer in not talking negatively,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: whether it's you know, someone's lazy or this or anything
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: in front of my kids. So yeah, so that they
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: just they they only see a positiveness from having a
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: big brother and a big sister. And um, because we
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: really didn't we it was rough. It was rough at first.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: It was rough at first, and it came from a
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: broken relationship too, whereas uh, my ex wife and I
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: we weren't. We didn't get along, and uh, God rest
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: her soul, she passed away, and with her passing, with
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: her passing away, it opened up the relationship for myself
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: and my older kids. And uh, you know, uh, this
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: is always a difficult thing for me to talk about.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: But yeah, because we didn't we didn't have a relationship.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: We didn't have a relationship with them at all, and
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: not we had a bit of a relationship, but it
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: wasn't you know, Casey didn't really know my daughter or
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: my youngest son before we had kids. And and so
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: you know, the fact that she was able to do
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: what she did and take care of my responsibilities when
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: I was out of town, you know, helped out tremendously. Uh.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: And I feel like I feel like now and I
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: could be wrong, honey, and if I'm wrong, you can
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: totally correct me. But I feel like we were a
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: well oiled machine now because of it, and we all
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: you know, right, I think I think a lot that
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: helped us was that he was out of the equation.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: So we were forced and I mean that in a
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: possitive way, like we were forced to all develop our
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: own relationship on our own without him overcompensating on this
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: and overcompensating all that and worrying about are you did
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: you check with them or did you hug them or
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: did they check with you? And you know, so all that,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: you know, crap was out the window. It was more like, hey,
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: I'm in charge and we're all in this together. Let's
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: let's do it. But I have to say where I
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: don't are these are your kids the youngest or the oldest.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: So sorry, I wasn't think these are all home hours.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: But yeah, my son is just my husband has a
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: ten year age gap between him and his brother, and
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: they don't you know, they have a good relationship, but
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: it's not close. And I'm just worried that my son
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: is who is going to be nine, is going to
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: not have a close of a relationship with his youngest sibling. Yeah. Well,
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: well I personally, video games is something I can't I
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: cannot stand. It was the one I just can't stand it.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: I think they wrought my kids brains any kid, and
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: I just am not for it. His son, the oldest one,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: is a huge gamer, and I had to We fought
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: so much about it, but it was the one thing
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: that that my seven year old and the eighteen year
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: old could connect on that that you know, that's a
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: good point. And eighteen year old doesn't want to hang
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: out with a seven year old, but when you're frying
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: your brain together, it doesn't matter. Yeah, find something, just
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: that one thing whether you like it or not, and
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: just let them go to town on it really and yeah,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: I need to be more of a cool mom like that.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: You're right, but but limit it because it was hard. Yeah. Um.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: And then the daughter just if it's girls, you know,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: it was all about dancing. So they just taught each
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: other to dance. And you know, my daughter looks up
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: to her big sister like she's the queen. So it was.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: So it sounds like your answer is fine, things that
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: they can find in common, because obviously they will be
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: able to find things that they like in common. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: I love that. Thank you, nice to see you. Thanks
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: for letting me come back on Zach bullshitan liar man.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: First thing I said to Donald, He was like, babe,
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: can you come up real quick? I said, oh god?
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: What He was like, oh, there's family stuff on. I
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: was like, is Zach pissed? And you were don't lie,
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: don't lie. I love it when you come on. I
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: just think that occasionally he can answer a parenting question
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: without needing to call a friend. Well, this is a
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: glimpse inside our marriage. Guys. There's no occasionally where he
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: can answer a parenting question. Oh my God, you're not
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: funny at all. Get out. I would watch this reality show.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: All right, Donald, it's time for Shanghai's favorite segment of
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: the show. It's time to fix your life? All right, Emily,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: you have some very wise minds here. How can we
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: help you in any way fix your life? Do I
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: need to go get Casey again? Oh? Okay, No, no,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: I think this. I think you're I think you're capable here. Okay.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: So yeah, so I'm more of an introvert, and now
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: obviously I'm somewhere where I don't have any support socially
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: or anything like that. So I'm gonna have to make
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: an effort and like make friends and stuff. I know,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: y'all seem like extroverts to me at least. So do
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: you have any tips on how to go out and
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: make this city my home? Yeah? It's really sigur it out.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: Get an only fans page. It's the god you'll have. Okay, Casey,
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: Well listen, Johnny. Actually I think you could be good
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: this because when you go on location, you're you constantly
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: are forced to start a new existence and figure out
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: your way around you any tidbits when you get to
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: a new place, what do you do when when you
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: settle in for a location. Donald, you just recently did
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: it with Jersey City as well. Have two answers. I
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: have two answers. First, I wanted to revisit Emily's first question,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: and I have. The way I do it around here
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: with the children is if you can make them feel
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: equally valued. And the way you work backwards for making
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: a child feel equally valued is if you can say
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: out loud, I love you the most because, and then
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: there's an ellipsis, and for each child if you can
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: tell them why you love them the most, and it's
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: an individuated package. So I love you the most because
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: you make me laugh at night, you get best snuggles
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: on the planet. And then for the five year old,
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: I love you the most for an entirely different reason
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: because you're the greatest storyteller and no one else can
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: touch some of the tales that you sell. And for
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: the baby, even though he or she can't understand you,
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: I love you the most because and that, and then
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: people start to feel equally valued. You're not going to
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: be able to manipulate how they feel and treat each other.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: That's when they become individuals. Your husband who has a
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: ten year gap between his brother. That's not the parent.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: The parents had nothing to do with that. They're they're individuals.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: They get to feel that way. But you can foster
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: an environment where people feel equally valued. And that's huge
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: if you could just foster that. It's huge in a
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: tangible way, not in some granola way, in a tangible way,
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: and as far as pandemic notwithstanding. When I get to
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: a new location, to Zach's question, I'm a foodie and
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: I find a really nice, nice grocery store, whether it's
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: a mom pod joint or or a Whole Foods, and um,
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: that's that's where I start. I start. I don't talk
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: to anybody anyway, but I barely talk to myself, and
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: so a grocery stores is where I start. I would
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: think you're gonna I think you're gonna have a leg
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: up because of the children. So I imagine the children
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: will be in a in a blore, some sort of
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: program for maybe are there going to be in some
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: school for ex pats. I'm assuming yeah, yeah, so that
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: you're right. You're right, I'm gonna have to be friends
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: with all the other moms. That's yeah, No, I think
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: it's a good starting point for you to like. The
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: school seems like it will be a good a good
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: hub for you to get a quint and you know,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: and they can give you the lowdown like, oh this
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: is this is a great place to take the kids,
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: or this is a great restaurant for you and your husband,
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: all that stuff. Donald, go ahead. I would I would
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: don't mention those restaurants in homebook. And again please yeah, man,
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: I'm trying to listen. Man, you need to go to
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: this one restaurant in Hoboken. I can't really, I spoke
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: too much weed to remember the name I got name
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: or Johnny's you in China? Right you in China in
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: a spot You in Shanghai, right a spot on Malcolm
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: X Boulevard in China. Um, you know, I usually start
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: at the gym. I'm gonna be honest with you. That's
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: the easiest way to make friends, to be if you
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: really want to make friends, go to the gym. Somebody's
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: gonna say something eventually. They can't help it. Somebody's gonna
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: be like, how much a bench? Eventually. When I first
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: moved to I didn't know that the that the Gold's
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: Gym Hollywood was considered a really gay jim Um and
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: I started going there and everyone was so helpful to me,
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: and I just so awful or awesome to you. They
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: were so helpful. They remember coming home to my girlfriend
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: and being like, God, everyone at this gym, they're all healthy.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: Want one guy was like teaching me how to squat. So, yeah,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: you can make lots of friends at the gym. That's
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: exactly what I'm looking for. You're welcome, Thank you, welcome. Yeah,
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: we did it. I mean, I don't know if you're
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: going to get better advice. I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: You can search all of Shanghai. Yeah, I think we
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: fixed your life. And and Emily, thank you for coming on.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: We really appreciate you coming on. Yeah. Thanks, and good luck,
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: good luck in the Shanghai. Thank you. Thank well. He's safe.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: Be happy. I'm kind of nervous for her, just all
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: of a sudden, being in Shanghai with all these kids,
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: and she's got to just start for scratch that that
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: sounds intimidating. Yeah, it seems like she's on our own too.
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: It seems like her husband has his way and knows
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: what he's going to be doing, but she's kind of
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: in the dark side of it. I think it sounds
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: like an amazing adventure, especially since the Chinese have done
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: such a better job with COVID, and I think it's
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: going to be incredible. She was a bit cryptic about
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: what her husband was doing. I felt like he might
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: be a CI agent. Yeah, and I say absolutely, Yeah,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: something sketchy was going on with the husband because he
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: She was like, it's a job and it was last
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: minute and yeah, now we live here. Yeah, and I
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: think a spy was transferred. God, Johnny, can I tell
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: you that when when Krista has this super clean moment
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: at the end of the episode when she simply says
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: I missed Ben without any historyonics, no, no trying to
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: squeeze the towel out, just she just states it as
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: a fact and she almost throws it away and it
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: is fantastic. Yeah, Johnny, I was going to say something
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: about that because I thought she was gonna go into
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: a whole spiel about it, and I was like, and
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: when she didn't do it, I was like, oh, thank god,
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Oh wow, thank god. You know what I mean, very simple, yeah, yeah,
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: oh thank god. And so when that happened. That was
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: a very powerful moment for me also, you know, uh,
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: and and and it really you know, my wife was
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: just on the show, you guys know how I am.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: I'm very all about me and everything like that, and
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: it was clear, and it was so I was so
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: happy for doctor Cox also because now he's healing, you
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: know what I mean. The minute that he realized, Okay,
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: I'm hurting, but I'm not even thinking about the woman
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: in my life who was related to this this man,
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: I'm not even thinking about her. And I'm and and
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: and I'm giving her a hard time too, Like you
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: have all your friends here, get them the fuck out
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: of here. I'm having a hard time with all of this,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And then when he realizes, oh,
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: she's hurting and that's why they're still here. He can
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: now heal, and now he can help her heal, you know. Yeah,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: And Bill puts this genius button at the end of it.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: She says, we have a chemical peel tomorrow. They leave,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: and Chris, it just goes, no, we have a chemical
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: peel tomorrow. And it's the loveliest button and she just
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: again she just plays it right down the little it's
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: a fact they can't leave. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the chemical
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: peel Tomorrow. We're not going to cancel our chemical peel.
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: I thought it was the best non precious button ever. Um,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: all right, I think we did it, guys. I think
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: that episode. I think we successfully recapped the episode for everybody. Johnny,
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: it is so good to see you always. I miss you.

- 1:13:46Speaker 1: eating food or are you like, are you like eating
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: anything that has salt or sugar in it by any chance?
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: Like the body needs that. I know, not a lot
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: of it, but the body needs it. That's what you
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: tell yourself when you eat your donuts my right, when
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: I mean my Dunkin donuts. You absolutely right, That's what
