- 2:49Speaker 3: the Selango All Light the Night continues. I want to
- 2:51Speaker 3: bring in Jill gar under the Dirty Birds to talk
- 2:54Speaker 3: about that. Jill, good morning, welcome back to the show.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Good morning, Thank you.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Have a good Thanksgiving.
- 2:58Speaker 4: It was good.
- 2:59Speaker 5: It was good.
- 2:59Speaker 4: I was out in a little little warmer there, so
- 3:02Speaker 4: we're adjusting. But it's been fun, I.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Would imagine, because I mean, you know when you land
- 3:07Speaker 3: back here and suddenly we had some snow over the weekend.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Not a lot in this area, but we had some snow,
- 3:12Speaker 3: and definitely the colder temperatures a little bit different than California,
- 3:16Speaker 3: just a little bit.
- 3:17Speaker 4: But you know, I spent four years in Boston. I
- 3:19Speaker 4: know how to handle the winter. It's just getting reacclimated.
- 3:22Speaker 3: To one one extreme to the other. Yeah, I guess.
- 3:24Speaker 3: So how's it been so far?
- 3:25Speaker 4: It's been great. I mean we've been open, what two
- 3:28Speaker 4: three weeks now, and this is really getting into more
- 3:30Speaker 4: of the Christmas holiday season, so we're seeing a lot
- 3:33Speaker 4: bigger crowds really starting the day after Thanksgiving. We had
- 3:36Speaker 4: over four thousand people on Saturday, so we haven't hit
- 3:39Speaker 4: that record, which I believe was over eight thousand last year.
- 3:43Speaker 4: So we're nearing there. We know we'll get busy as
- 3:46Speaker 4: we get closer to Christmas.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah, and as you get into Thanksgiving. I mean, you know,
- 3:50Speaker 3: I guess the seasons. I don't want to say they
- 3:53Speaker 3: get forced, because everybody can do what they want to do,
- 3:55Speaker 3: but it just seems like the season, the Christmas season
- 3:57Speaker 3: starts earlier and earlier every year. You guys had an
- 4:00Speaker 3: early start before Thanksgiving. And when I was talking to
- 4:02Speaker 3: Andy Shay and Ben Salango the last time that they
- 4:05Speaker 3: were on the show that once you start seeing the
- 4:07Speaker 3: snow flying, you're probably going to see an uptick in people. Again,
- 4:10Speaker 3: we didn't have a whole lot of snow here in
- 4:12Speaker 3: the area. Looked pretty when you woke up yesterday morning,
- 4:14Speaker 3: but it's pretty much gone by midday. But I think
- 4:16Speaker 3: you probably would find that you do get an uptick
- 4:19Speaker 3: in the amount of bodies that come to the turnstiles.
- 4:22Speaker 4: There, definitely, and especially the snow. It's December first, and
- 4:26Speaker 4: you know you have some people that start Christmas right
- 4:28Speaker 4: after Halloween. I personally start Christmas the day after Thanksgiving,
- 4:31Speaker 4: so for me, this would be when I would go
- 4:33Speaker 4: see the lights.
- 4:34Speaker 3: So you've added a lot of new things this year.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Talk about some of the newer things this year.
- 4:40Speaker 4: So we have more carnival rides, we have the Round
- 4:43Speaker 4: Up which is where you strap in and it spins
- 4:45Speaker 4: you around and goes on the side. That's been really popular.
- 4:48Speaker 4: We have a carousel that's new this year and a
- 4:51Speaker 4: lot new vendors coming up. This week. We're going to
- 4:53Speaker 4: have I think four or five different vendors that you
- 4:55Speaker 4: can buy some early Christmas gifts for, So make sure
- 4:59Speaker 4: to come by the this week. It's going to be
- 5:00Speaker 4: a busy week for us.
- 5:01Speaker 5: It is.
- 5:02Speaker 3: And you've had a lot of different special nights. I
- 5:04Speaker 3: know I had the folks from aarp On not long
- 5:07Speaker 3: ago with Broad Blackstone. They were on a couple of
- 5:09Speaker 3: weeks ago. Talk about some of the special things you've
- 5:11Speaker 3: got going on.
- 5:11Speaker 4: So this week is the big one. Today we're doing
- 5:14Speaker 4: a clothing drive partnering with Dress for Success. So if
- 5:17Speaker 4: you bring lightly used professional clothing coats, suits, dresses, shoes,
- 5:22Speaker 4: things like that, you'll get a free ticket into Light
- 5:25Speaker 4: the night. Tomorrow is our first of three sensory friendly nights.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Those are the first three Tuesdays in December and then Wednesday,
- 5:33Speaker 4: we are doing a toy drive partnering with Sparks of
- 5:36Speaker 4: Love Foundation. If you bring an unwrapped, unused toy for
- 5:41Speaker 4: ages zero to twelve, you get a free ticket into
- 5:43Speaker 4: Light the Night.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I mean, that's one of the things I like about
- 5:46Speaker 3: the Light the Night too, is that when you when
- 5:48Speaker 3: it's first the game first came into ban and we
- 5:51Speaker 3: talked to Solango and talked to Andy about that, was
- 5:53Speaker 3: that it's always something different and you've always get these
- 5:56Speaker 3: different different things to bring the community in. I know
- 6:00Speaker 3: it's early, but how have the numbers look so far?
- 6:03Speaker 4: Not bad? Again, like we talked about, we're expecting an
- 6:06Speaker 4: uptick now that the snow has come through, now that
- 6:09Speaker 4: Thanksgiving is over, I think the most we've had is
- 6:11Speaker 4: right around forty five hundred. Saturday and Fridays are always
- 6:14Speaker 4: our busiest days, and.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I would think that Friday night, or maybe even Thursday night,
- 6:19Speaker 3: like you said, a lot of people officially kick into
- 6:21Speaker 3: the Christmas mode when the turkey is done. And of course,
- 6:25Speaker 3: like most people, you're probably still eating turkey leftovers at
- 6:27Speaker 3: this point, probably out toss those here pretty soon. But
- 6:30Speaker 3: Friday when you get in and again Charleston on this
- 6:33Speaker 3: past Friday, and we've talked to Mayor about this a
- 6:35Speaker 3: little bit later on, we had the two day Holly
- 6:38Speaker 3: Jolly Brawley event and that kind of even though it's
- 6:41Speaker 3: a separate entity, Jill, it kind of goes right into
- 6:43Speaker 3: what's going on over to ballpark. So with Christmas season
- 6:45Speaker 3: is here.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Right and we see the trolleys all around Charleston right
- 6:49Speaker 4: now too where they have the lights on and we
- 6:51Speaker 4: have the tlie. The trolley stops by Gomart Ballpark, so
- 6:54Speaker 4: you can get on the trolley to come to the
- 6:57Speaker 4: light the night shows.
- 6:58Speaker 3: That's the holly Jolly Braley trolley.
- 7:00Speaker 4: That's it. There's no way I can say that.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Hotlined. We're talking to Joe Garrett. The Dirty Birds Dave
- 7:06Speaker 3: Island Show on five eighty Live is brought to part
- 7:08Speaker 3: by Bridge Valley. If you're interested in proving your company's
- 7:11Speaker 3: I workforce, know that they offer custom tailored IT training
- 7:14Speaker 3: to Bridge of Skills Gap Bridge Valley trained for a
- 7:16Speaker 3: little of no cost fifty to fifty salary match. They
- 7:18Speaker 3: can also supply skilled graduates and apprenticeships for your company.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Visit Bridge Valley dot edu slash apprenticeships. Today and again
- 7:26Speaker 3: we talked about the crowds that have been there so
- 7:28Speaker 3: far and as we get. As we get you're open
- 7:31Speaker 3: every night during the Christmas season except for Christmas night.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Somebody is going to have to be there on Christmas Eve?
- 7:37Speaker 3: Is that going to be you?
- 7:38Speaker 4: That will not be me?
- 7:39Speaker 3: Somebody will.
- 7:40Speaker 4: I am working eighteen of the next twenty nights so
- 7:43Speaker 4: I can take that week off as my family comes
- 7:45Speaker 4: to visit.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Yeah, and well, I'm sure you'll bring your family down
- 7:48Speaker 3: to visit at some point.
- 7:48Speaker 4: They want to come see what you do for a
- 7:50Speaker 4: list exactly December twenty sixth mom and dad are coming through.
- 7:53Speaker 4: And where's mom and dad at They're in Los Angeles
- 7:56Speaker 4: right now. Okay, so they're going to be cold.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Yeah, because they did. They spend time in Boss too.
- 8:00Speaker 4: Is that we're the my dad's from Boston?
- 8:02Speaker 3: Say, because I thought you had told us that once
- 8:04Speaker 3: before and again we talk about the amount of groups
- 8:08Speaker 3: that come in for these things. Ben and I talked
- 8:11Speaker 3: about it as well as Andy last time they were
- 8:12Speaker 3: on the show. The different like nursing home groups that
- 8:15Speaker 3: come in, and that's that's.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Always special, especially I mean I just got an email
- 8:19Speaker 4: from West Virginia Kids Cancer Crusaders where they're going to
- 8:21Speaker 4: bring eighty two of their families out for this Thursday.
- 8:26Speaker 4: So they are going to be buying tickets for families
- 8:30Speaker 4: that they support of children who have cancer. They're going
- 8:32Speaker 4: to be buying food for them as well as ride tickets.
- 8:35Speaker 4: So it's just really special to be able to partner
- 8:37Speaker 4: with these types of organizations.
- 8:38Speaker 5: You know.
- 8:39Speaker 4: We yeah, of course we're We're a business and we
- 8:41Speaker 4: want to make money with the end of the day.
- 8:43Speaker 4: We love Charleston, we love West Virginia. We want to
- 8:45Speaker 4: keep giving back to the community as much as we
- 8:47Speaker 4: can and.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Talk about the need to get the tickets in advance.
- 8:50Speaker 4: So I highly highly recommend first of all, just helps
- 8:54Speaker 4: us plan a little bit better selfishly. It helps us,
- 8:57Speaker 4: but it helps you too because you can save up
- 8:59Speaker 4: to five dollars if you buy ahead online and.
- 9:02Speaker 3: The website where you go for that is dblightthenight dot com.
- 9:05Speaker 3: And you're gonna save yourself a little bit of money,
- 9:07Speaker 3: which especially if you're bringing out the entire family, Jill,
- 9:10Speaker 3: that's every little bit helps there exactly.
- 9:12Speaker 4: And you know, once you're in there are some things
- 9:14Speaker 4: you need to pay for the rides, you have to
- 9:16Speaker 4: pay for the ice get you have to pay for us.
- 9:17Speaker 4: If you save some money on the ticket, then you
- 9:19Speaker 4: can maybe do a few extra rides and what.
- 9:21Speaker 3: About food there you have the concessions.
- 9:22Speaker 4: Or concessions are open. You got some normal ballpark stuff, cheeseburger,
- 9:26Speaker 4: hot dogs, but we are also, of course, have hot chocolate.
- 9:29Speaker 4: But we're doing some deep fried Oreos, deep fried Twinkies,
- 9:32Speaker 4: funnel cakes, so some carnival and Christmas yfood as well.
- 9:36Speaker 5: Well.
- 9:36Speaker 3: I was gonna say, because it is you're at a ballpark,
- 9:38Speaker 3: so you're not gonna forget that.
- 9:39Speaker 4: Oh, of course, yeah, we are definitely a ballpark.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Still, all right, again, it's going to continue every night

- 10:12Speaker 3: All right, yeah, because I think Steve and Jenny and Logan,

- 10:16Speaker 3: there coming up. Then Jill, I appreciate you being here.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 10:20Speaker 3: When do we start getting into baseball mode at the golf,
- 10:22Speaker 3: at the ball I mean we could even think about
- 10:25Speaker 3: that at this point.
- 10:26Speaker 4: We were thinking about it a little bit. You know,
- 10:29Speaker 4: I personally am not, but I know our coaching staff
- 10:32Speaker 4: is probably gonna be thinking about it pretty time soon.
- 10:34Speaker 3: All right, appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot, Thanks

- 14:22Speaker 3: We'll have more on those shows in a moment. But
- 14:25Speaker 3: what do you been up to lately?
- 14:28Speaker 5: Oh Man just recently finished up all originalid Mountain Bay
- 14:34Speaker 5: went out there and recorded the whole thing on DVD also,
- 14:38Speaker 5: So I just been Dan Beasi man and wrapping up

- 14:45Speaker 5: kids Joy Toys Drift. So I might have to go
- 14:46Speaker 5: deliver some toys today also.
- 14:49Speaker 3: And this is something that you have done for quite
- 14:52Speaker 3: some time, to these toy drives that you do in
- 14:54Speaker 3: your home for the holidays.
- 14:55Speaker 5: To talk about that, oh man, that's just part of
- 14:59Speaker 5: a panish forward and giving back, just remembering your roots
- 15:02Speaker 5: and you know, making some less fortunate lives better anyway possible,
- 15:09Speaker 5: especially with the blessing that you received in your own lives.
- 15:12Speaker 5: You know, you just started paying forward. So it's just
- 15:14Speaker 5: something that I'm big on and I just want to
- 15:17Speaker 5: continue to do it throughout my whole career.
- 15:19Speaker 3: I want to talk about the tour. I know that
- 15:22Speaker 3: you love doing this tour every year and there's always
- 15:24Speaker 3: something different as part of the tour. This year, you've
- 15:28Speaker 3: got an extra special guest and we'll get to him
- 15:31Speaker 3: in just a couple of moments, but talk about the
- 15:32Speaker 3: whole idea behind Home for the Holidays tour, why you
- 15:35Speaker 3: decided to do this a few years ago in the
- 15:38Speaker 3: first place.
- 15:39Speaker 5: Well, homeboard Holidays is basically exactly what it means, just
- 15:42Speaker 5: like everybody wants to be home for Christmas, and a
- 15:45Speaker 5: lot of people in the state of West Virginia voted
- 15:47Speaker 5: for me, you know, so I always want to bring
- 15:50Speaker 5: those holiday concerts back to my home state. So it's
- 15:54Speaker 5: about traveling throughout the whole state of West Virginia playing
- 15:58Speaker 5: Christmas shows and adding.
- 16:00Speaker 9: Especial guests that they would only see on TV or
- 16:03Speaker 9: something like that. Even like myself, they saw me on television,
- 16:06Speaker 9: but I stayed true to my roots and you know,
- 16:08Speaker 9: state in the state, so they can also see me
- 16:10Speaker 9: at the Pigley Wiggley.
- 16:16Speaker 3: That's that's the thing about And that's it's one of
- 16:19Speaker 3: the things that I respect most about you. And of
- 16:21Speaker 3: course you and I have been friends for a long
- 16:23Speaker 3: before America's got talent. But but I've always respected about
- 16:26Speaker 3: you because you spend so much time and you know,
- 16:29Speaker 3: fill in name here. You know, whether it's overseas, you
- 16:31Speaker 3: spend time in Vegas. You said you just completed the
- 16:33Speaker 3: album there, you're in Florida, you're in New York, Texas,
- 16:36Speaker 3: wherever you may be. But West Virginia is always home
- 16:38Speaker 3: for landaut Yes, it is no place like it. And
- 16:43Speaker 3: this year on the tour, you've got a gentleman by
- 16:45Speaker 3: the name of Moore Ilderton. Now he is the young
- 16:48Speaker 3: man who, as much as you can relate to, pretty
- 16:52Speaker 3: much dazzled America in the world. He was on the
- 16:54Speaker 3: show The Voice, and he's a guy, uh that you
- 16:57Speaker 3: know that that has a lot of Western junior roots
- 17:00Speaker 3: obviously because he's a Putnam County guy, but you and
- 17:03Speaker 3: I both know his real roots go back to Logan County.
- 17:07Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely, Rob and so yeah he's there. Uh, I
- 17:13Speaker 5: think he's their great nephews. I think he would be
- 17:19Speaker 5: or a grandson. But yeah, so it's it's keeping true
- 17:24Speaker 5: to your roots again, you know, and and helping out
- 17:27Speaker 5: fellow West Virginia. You know, he was on to show
- 17:31Speaker 5: The Voice and I was on the Meerxican Talent. He
- 17:34Speaker 5: must just bringing these two things together and uh, put
- 17:38Speaker 5: together a hometown type Christmas show for everybody to see.
- 17:43Speaker 5: I think it'd be great for everybody to know it's
- 17:46Speaker 5: his talent. Even more for the ones who didn't get
- 17:49Speaker 5: to see him on television, they'll get to see during
- 17:51Speaker 5: this Christmas tour. So it's always a pleasure.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Talking again with Landau Eu Genie Murphy Junior. And you're
- 17:57Speaker 3: gonna roll into Saint Albans Friday night. As I said,
- 17:59Speaker 3: you're all over the city of West Virginia, but Friday
- 18:01Speaker 3: night you're going to be at the Alburn Theater. There
- 18:03Speaker 3: are two shows, seven and nine o'clock. And I was
- 18:06Speaker 3: talking to your management a little bit earlier. I think
- 18:09Speaker 3: getting the ticker for that seven o'clock show is going
- 18:11Speaker 3: to be difficult, so folks are planning on going out
- 18:14Speaker 3: you can get you take it to your website. You
- 18:15Speaker 3: may want to go ahead and plan on going to
- 18:17Speaker 3: that nine o'clock show. Of course, it's a big weekend
- 18:19Speaker 3: in Saint Albans with the lighted boat parade, and you're
- 18:22Speaker 3: going to be right there with it. And during the pandemic.
- 18:24Speaker 3: A lot of folks may not know that you did
- 18:27Speaker 3: some of your concerts there at the Alburn Theater. It's
- 18:30Speaker 3: a great facility, yes it is.
- 18:33Speaker 5: It's very intimate and they do like plays and stuff
- 18:35Speaker 5: in there. So after you know, this Christmas season, if
- 18:38Speaker 5: you guys want to check out a good play, they
- 18:40Speaker 5: always do plays and stuff in there. And during the pandemic,
- 18:44Speaker 5: I recorded my whole Christmas show in that theater because
- 18:48Speaker 5: you know, we wasn't able to be around people things
- 18:51Speaker 5: like that, so I did it all online. And this
- 18:54Speaker 5: year with everything opened up, and we started this whole
- 18:58Speaker 5: Christmas tour again. Here we are at the Aubun Theater
- 19:04Speaker 5: and it sells out so quick the first show and
- 19:06Speaker 5: now you got to rush and get the second show
- 19:09Speaker 5: ticket because the first show sold out so fast, and
- 19:14Speaker 5: we're proud of that, you know, we're happy that everybody's
- 19:17Speaker 5: getting into that spirit. And we'll be out there to
- 19:20Speaker 5: light the Christmas tree and do the hopeful eat thing
- 19:22Speaker 5: and all of that, and then the show will go
- 19:25Speaker 5: on all right.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Well again, as you said, there's two shows on Friday night,
- 19:29Speaker 3: one at seven at one to night. The seven o'clock
- 19:31Speaker 3: show is now sold out from what I understand, so
- 19:34Speaker 3: you're gonna have to get to tickets for the nine
- 19:36Speaker 3: o'clock show. You can get those on your website. Landell.
- 19:39Speaker 3: I appreciate you as always, my friend. I know you
- 19:41Speaker 3: got a lot of media that you gotta do, so
- 19:43Speaker 3: I'm gonna go ahead and let you go. Thanks a
- 19:44Speaker 3: lot for being here, and we'll see you Friday night.
- 19:46Speaker 5: Man, thanks a lot, right, Thank you, Freeve, Dave, thanks appreciate.
- 19:50Speaker 2: It all right.
- 19:51Speaker 3: It's Landeal Eugen Murphy junior guy who definitely definitely gives
- 19:55Speaker 3: back to West Virginia. And again the show is going
- 19:58Speaker 3: to be Friday night at the A Theater in St. Albans.
- 20:01Speaker 3: There's actually two shows, seven and nine at seven o'clock show. Unfortunately,
- 20:04Speaker 3: well fortunately depend on how you look at it. It's
- 20:06Speaker 3: sold out at this point from what I understand. But
- 20:09Speaker 3: if you get a chance to go, and he's gonna
- 20:11Speaker 3: be hanging out in town a little bit. I mean,
- 20:12Speaker 3: that's a guy that you know, could be anywhere, but
- 20:15Speaker 3: chooses to spend time in West Virginia. Uh so has
- 20:18Speaker 3: his home in Logan and doing a lot of great things.
- 20:22Speaker 3: But Dave island showing five Any Live brought to you

- 20:55Speaker 3: Charleston's Downtown Innovation Hub is going to be joining this,
- 20:58Speaker 3: plus Jason Quintrel from UNI Mission back on the show tomorrow.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Charleston City councilhen Chad Robinson will be stopping by counsel
- 21:04Speaker 3: and we'll talk to the mayor about this momentarily is
- 21:06Speaker 3: set to meet tonight and among the things that could
- 21:08Speaker 3: possibly be discussed would be this anti panhandling issue in
- 21:11Speaker 3: the city councilor Robinson is one of the ones that's
- 21:14Speaker 3: kind of been on the forefront of that movement. We'll
- 21:16Speaker 3: talk to him about that, plus more coming up on
- 21:19Speaker 3: tomorrow's show, the Neil Brown Era the Climb if you
- 21:22Speaker 3: will is over hoppy. Of course, we'll have more out
- 21:24Speaker 3: of a talk line. It really shouldn't come as a surprise,
- 21:28Speaker 3: as WU fans have been, you know, pretty much calling
- 21:30Speaker 3: for that for some time now, especially after that blowout
- 21:32Speaker 3: loss to Texas Tech on Saturday. Bittersweet for coach Brown though,
- 21:37Speaker 3: is he A gets fired and b gets paid around
- 21:40Speaker 3: six or seven million dollars to walk away? Not not
- 21:45Speaker 3: bad work if you can get him. Maybe, you know,
- 21:49Speaker 3: maybe he was in a little bit over his head.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Maybe not. I don't know. But the whole climb that
- 21:54Speaker 3: he talked about never never really got off the ground.
- 21:56Speaker 3: There were moments of hope here and there, but overall
- 21:59Speaker 3: not so much. He did finish with a winning record overall, though,
- 22:02Speaker 3: So let's let them mountain near faithful start throwing the
- 22:04Speaker 3: names out there, their wish list of who they want
- 22:06Speaker 3: to see takeover rich Rod. You hear that a lot,
- 22:09Speaker 3: Jimbo Fisher. You know, I'll leave most of that up
- 22:12Speaker 3: to Hoppying Coredian, coach Hunter Bright, how et cetera. But
- 22:15Speaker 3: if you want to weigh in on the firing of
- 22:16Speaker 3: Neil Brown, you're more than welcome to text me.
- 22:18Speaker 2: You can do that.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Tony Taylor Texas three zero four nine three five five
- 22:22Speaker 3: zero zero. Waiting again, Hoppy is going to get into
- 22:24Speaker 3: that more coming up a little bit later on in
- 22:26Speaker 3: the show. Look who's here, it's our mayor you're in
- 22:29Speaker 3: it on? Can I get you to move to that side?
- 22:31Speaker 3: Just simply hold on a second. I gotta push them
- 22:34Speaker 3: a buncher simply because that's where I have the headphones play.
- 22:36Speaker 9: Whitch.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go.
- 22:37Speaker 3: How you doing?
- 22:37Speaker 5: Man?
- 22:38Speaker 10: Good morning? I know I got your text. I was
- 22:40Speaker 10: super happy to come in a little early.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Landau is going to be playing two shows at the
- 22:45Speaker 3: Album Theater Friday. Friday is already The seven o'clock show
- 22:48Speaker 3: is already sold out, I believe it. The nine o'clock show,
- 22:51Speaker 3: there are still some tickets available. But this is a
- 22:53Speaker 3: guy mayor the.
- 22:55Speaker 10: People know him because if you know him, you know
- 22:58Speaker 10: he is truly the sweetest man is. He's so sweet.
- 23:02Speaker 3: I always you know, my being from Logan. We all
- 23:05Speaker 3: know each other. Yeah, that's just the way it is.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:08Speaker 10: Actually I went to He's talented and smart and all
- 23:11Speaker 10: that good stuff. But man, he's the heart of.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Go and he's really he's not changed one bit. I
- 23:15Speaker 3: mean he's the same week you can.
- 23:16Speaker 10: Tell people, don't. People don't change that. You can change
- 23:19Speaker 10: a lot of things, but you don't change your heart.
- 23:22Speaker 10: You don't.
- 23:23Speaker 3: He's the same guy I went to. I went to
- 23:24Speaker 3: high school with his brother. And he's the same guy
- 23:27Speaker 3: that he was when I first met him thirty thirty
- 23:29Speaker 3: five years ago. He changed one bit. We always bust
- 23:32Speaker 3: on each other's sports teams and that sort of thing,
- 23:35Speaker 3: and he'll text me with weird things he sees out
- 23:37Speaker 3: on the road.
- 23:37Speaker 11: You know.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Sometimes he's just.
- 23:38Speaker 10: Such a great ambassador for West Virginia.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Yes, so how are you?
- 23:42Speaker 10: I'm perfect? How about you? I mean a lot of
- 23:45Speaker 10: good teams won this weekend, Marshall. Marshall, Yeah, see my
- 23:49Speaker 10: green coat. Yeah, you're raiding it around today, puffing my
- 23:53Speaker 10: chest out. I work out with somebody who goes to Jamia,
- 23:55Speaker 10: but I did so I didn't want to brag too much,
- 23:58Speaker 10: but I did wear my long green, great green Marshall,
- 24:01Speaker 10: call you. Yeah, I mean it was I'm not sure
- 24:06Speaker 10: that we should have won that game, but by golly,
- 24:08Speaker 10: we did. And what a great game. My We were
- 24:12Speaker 10: in the rec room with our boys watching it. And
- 24:16Speaker 10: my boys, as you well know, Dave, are not small.
- 24:19Speaker 10: They're not small potatoes. And so when the the the
- 24:23Speaker 10: kicker and the pass back, and remember I'm a hockey mom,
- 24:26Speaker 10: so I just sports ball, sports ball. And then when
- 24:29Speaker 10: they won, they both jumped up so loud, like the
- 24:34Speaker 10: floor shook. Both of the boys sprung and jumped in
- 24:38Speaker 10: the whole house. I was like, settled down, we've already
- 24:40Speaker 10: decorated the tree.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Calm down, you'll knock it over now.
- 24:43Speaker 2: They were so fired up.
- 24:45Speaker 10: So now the only we have, you know, we have
- 24:47Speaker 10: group tax, family tax with the kids with extended family.
- 24:51Speaker 10: So that has been the entire week and uh, and
- 24:54Speaker 10: of course the news about Neil Brown has been the
- 24:56Speaker 10: entire weekend. Texting back forth on our on our family text.
- 25:00Speaker 10: Marshall University, that's where that's where my head is today.
- 25:04Speaker 10: And I'm really pleased for coach Huff and the I
- 25:08Speaker 10: was getting ready to say kiddos, they're not kiddos. These
- 25:10Speaker 10: young men have done such an amazing job. And it's
- 25:14Speaker 10: been a hard season.
- 25:15Speaker 3: And nobody hasn't been easy, right, and nobody really expected
- 25:17Speaker 3: a lot from the Thundering Herd this season. Now they're
- 25:21Speaker 3: going to be playing for the Sun Bowl Championship. They're
- 25:22Speaker 3: going to a bowl, you know yet again this year.
- 25:24Speaker 3: So it's it's a great time to be uh, to
- 25:28Speaker 3: be a fan of the Thundering Herd. Yeah, and there's
- 25:30Speaker 3: a lot of excitement now about I think and nobody.
- 25:33Speaker 3: You never want to see may or anybody lose their job,
- 25:35Speaker 3: that's right. But by all intents and purposes, And I
- 25:37Speaker 3: met Neil Brown, I've been around Neil you know Brown
- 25:40Speaker 3: a little. He seems like an incredibly good dude, I mean, man, nobody,
- 25:45Speaker 3: I've never heard anybody say anything bad about him as
- 25:49Speaker 3: a person. Which if you're in a public eye and
- 25:51Speaker 3: you're a coach, you're not going to find a lot
- 25:54Speaker 3: of people that are going to, you know, speak positively
- 25:57Speaker 3: every time.
- 25:58Speaker 10: You have emotions like that on the line with people
- 26:01Speaker 10: who are so invested and I get it. Listen it
- 26:04Speaker 10: is we're season ticket holders as well. Listen, I love
- 26:07Speaker 10: going to the games. I have a child at WV,
- 26:10Speaker 10: I graduated from w I married somebody from WU, so
- 26:13Speaker 10: we definitely have an interest. And yes, I agree we
- 26:16Speaker 10: should be winning and we should be spending money on winning,
- 26:19Speaker 10: and we should be spending on money investing in kids
- 26:22Speaker 10: at the university for sure. But you know the comments
- 26:25Speaker 10: about he's not a nice guy, and he is a
- 26:28Speaker 10: nice guy, he may not be the right coach for us,
- 26:30Speaker 10: and obviously the clock is run out. That's fine. It'll
- 26:35Speaker 10: be a hard slog to get a new one. It's
- 26:37Speaker 10: my understanding. They've already interviewed several or talked to several folks.
- 26:40Speaker 10: Good for them, But you know, as a as a
- 26:43Speaker 10: member of that university, I as you all know, I
- 26:46Speaker 10: have in my garage Andrew got for me. I know,
- 26:49Speaker 10: a couple birthdays ago the house divided, you know, Marshall's
- 26:52Speaker 10: and the little lightning Bolton WVU. When these universities succeed,
- 26:58Speaker 10: we all succeed. That's not just a bumper sticker. I
- 27:01Speaker 10: mean that. And oh by the way, I mean that
- 27:04Speaker 10: with University of Charleston, and it can be West Liberty
- 27:08Speaker 10: or Concord or Shepherd. When West Virginia institutions succeed, we
- 27:12Speaker 10: all succeed. We are going to be and have been
- 27:16Speaker 10: on a national spotlight and it is it's great. It's
- 27:20Speaker 10: great for us. But you know, the page has turned.
- 27:22Speaker 10: He knows that this is the business season. It's certainly
- 27:25Speaker 10: not a shock, but you know, my hope for the
- 27:29Speaker 10: best because these folks work extremely hard. I have a
- 27:32Speaker 10: family members on the team, and they work hard. They
- 27:35Speaker 10: work really really hard. These kids do.
- 27:37Speaker 3: And the landscape of college athletics, mayor has changed so
- 27:40Speaker 3: much because what a team looks like in twenty twenty
- 27:44Speaker 3: four is not what it's going to look like in
- 27:45Speaker 3: twenty twenty five with the transfer portal and with nil
- 27:48Speaker 3: and all these other things. And it's hard for a
- 27:51Speaker 3: university like West Virginia, let alone Marshall or you see,
- 27:54Speaker 3: or any of these other schools to be able to
- 27:56Speaker 3: compete with the Texases of the world at the Oklahoma
- 27:59Speaker 3: and the and these other Oregon these much larger schools
- 28:03Speaker 3: that can offer, you know, so many different things. And
- 28:07Speaker 3: to your point, in West Virginia, you know, we don't
- 28:09Speaker 3: have a professional sports team, so there so we wrap
- 28:13Speaker 3: ourselves in WVU and Marshall and things of that nature.
- 28:17Speaker 3: And it's and sometimes the fan bases can get a
- 28:20Speaker 3: little out of control and they forget my children.
- 28:23Speaker 10: And again I'm and my husband, who I remind him
- 28:26Speaker 10: sometimes when he's gnashing his teeth and you know, his
- 28:29Speaker 10: hand twisting. Some of these people on the field are eighteen, yeah, nineteen,
- 28:35Speaker 10: younger than our own children. I know, I know, but
- 28:39Speaker 10: this is what it's about. Listen. I grew up in sports.
- 28:42Speaker 10: I've played sports in my whole life. It's competition time.
- 28:44Speaker 10: This is what we're all about. Listen, watching our men's
- 28:47Speaker 10: basketball team play last week, they were fantastic. I mean,
- 28:51Speaker 10: how many overtimes can we go into at the end
- 28:54Speaker 10: of each game? But that's great for our entire state
- 28:58Speaker 10: and really high hopes for that coach. It's fun, by
- 29:01Speaker 10: the way, it's fun to watch West Virginia basketball.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it was, it was, It really really is. Texas
- 29:06Speaker 3: Dave Neil Brown's payout is nine point seven million. Most
- 29:09Speaker 3: people say that it will be negotiated doubt, but Texta
- 29:13Speaker 3: continues he should have been gone two years ago and
- 29:15Speaker 3: never received an extension. Texas David, Congratulations to the Herd.
- 29:19Speaker 3: What a great comeback to win the game in the
- 29:21Speaker 3: East Division of the Sunday.
- 29:23Speaker 10: You know, I will say about coach Huff again if
- 29:25Speaker 10: you don't know him. I had a nephew who played
- 29:28Speaker 10: Marshall football as a slot receiver. And you know players
- 29:33Speaker 10: will tell you. They'll tell you behind closed doors. Zend
- 29:36Speaker 10: in front. He's a nut. You talk about a nice guy,
- 29:39Speaker 10: he's a he used to say to me and Amy.
- 29:41Speaker 10: He's a player's coach, and so what was that. He's
- 29:44Speaker 10: into our development as as well. He wants to know
- 29:47Speaker 10: that we are succeeding not just as player but as
- 29:50Speaker 10: play yours, but as people. That's important. That's important because
- 29:55Speaker 10: I actually think being you know, having all of those
- 29:59Speaker 10: things firing on also owners, you are a better player.
- 30:01Speaker 10: When you are a well rounded person, you are a
- 30:03Speaker 10: better player. He made him think, He made him listen,
- 30:05Speaker 10: he made him learn. That's a good coach.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Well, and we kind of forget this sometime and we'll
- 30:10Speaker 3: go and I promise we're not going to talk about sports.
- 30:11Speaker 3: We'll go into some other things, right, but we forget
- 30:15Speaker 3: sometimes too that the majority, no matter how talented a
- 30:18Speaker 3: player is on Western Ginia University or Marshall, the majority
- 30:21Speaker 3: of them are not going to go to the NFL.
- 30:23Speaker 5: That's it.
- 30:23Speaker 3: They may play to Canada, they may go to Europe.
- 30:26Speaker 10: A job within that right, but this is it for
- 30:29Speaker 10: the first management or physical training. Yeah, they may be
- 30:33Speaker 10: in it, but they're not playing.

- 34:26Speaker 3: I want to talk about Christmas in Capital City. I
- 34:29Speaker 3: had Jill Gearin from The Dirty Birds on earlier. Of
- 34:32Speaker 3: course we kicked off Holly Jolly Brawley during the Thanksgiving
- 34:36Speaker 3: break and now we get ready for the Christmas Parade
- 34:38Speaker 3: this Thursday night in Charleston.
- 34:40Speaker 10: I can't wait. We have our theme. Okay, I'm not
- 34:43Speaker 10: going to tell you what it is. A surprise, Okay,
- 34:45Speaker 10: it's a throwback to the eighties. It's little something we
- 34:47Speaker 10: used to do in the eighties.
- 34:48Speaker 3: I'm not going to talk about break dance, you.
- 34:51Speaker 10: Know, I can't do that now. I did have a
- 34:53Speaker 10: cabbage patch Janina Aviva. That was my cabbage patch. I
- 34:58Speaker 10: still have her somewhere, I think.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Yeah, talk about small business Saturday.
- 35:04Speaker 10: Oh you know it was great. Let me get let
- 35:06Speaker 10: me go all the way back, you know, even you
- 35:08Speaker 10: know when we started setting up the trees for Holly
- 35:10Speaker 10: Jolly Brawley and and folks. Folks may have forgotten when
- 35:14Speaker 10: we started this. It was twenty twenty. I remember sitting
- 35:17Speaker 10: in a senior staff zoom with people Matthew Sutton and
- 35:21Speaker 10: I'm my chief of staff and I didn't miss work
- 35:24Speaker 10: and we were in city Hall most days during the pandemic.
- 35:27Speaker 10: We might be the only people in city Hall, but
- 35:30Speaker 10: we were sitting there on the zoom and I said
- 35:32Speaker 10: we need to have a tree lighting. And everyone said,
- 35:34Speaker 10: no one will come, it's it's COVID, nobody's coming. Well,
- 35:37Speaker 10: twelve people did. Twelve people did, and a little girl
- 35:42Speaker 10: with her dad and he was a refuse driver, refuse
- 35:44Speaker 10: truck driver for us, and he brought his little girl.
- 35:46Speaker 10: And that was the very first Holly Jolly Braley. And
- 35:49Speaker 10: even though people say what wasn't called that, well, we
- 35:52Speaker 10: started it then because what it was then and what
- 35:56Speaker 10: it is now is a time for people to come
- 35:58Speaker 10: together to connect. That's what it is about. Yes, it
- 36:01Speaker 10: has turned into one hundred and sixty six fully decorated
- 36:04Speaker 10: trees that last, you know, six weeks's. It is one
- 36:09Speaker 10: of the very best things that we do here in
- 36:11Speaker 10: the City of Charleston. People come now to visit their family.
- 36:15Speaker 10: People do not go on vacation. That is where everyone
- 36:19Speaker 10: comes to, by the way, get engaged or get their
- 36:22Speaker 10: family photos. So the return on investment that we have
- 36:25Speaker 10: received and working with the Downtown Business Association, Kevin and Morgan,
- 36:30Speaker 10: by the way, Evan Osborne Capital Market. You know, from
- 36:35Speaker 10: our city team, it's all day. Our city team members
- 36:39Speaker 10: Jane and Miranda and Mark Lieutenant Kinder work every day
- 36:45Speaker 10: on this event. Wednesday night, it was packed downtown. Thursday night,
- 36:49Speaker 10: by the way, it was packed. Downtown business is open,
- 36:52Speaker 10: by the way, Downtown Charleston on Thursday, Dave, because they're
- 36:54Speaker 10: like those people downtown, well might as well open the doors.
- 36:57Speaker 10: Great Friday is insane downtown and it will continue. You
- 37:04Speaker 10: know this in addition to Light the Night and other
- 37:08Speaker 10: things that we have downtown and throughout the City of
- 37:12Speaker 10: Charleston and throughout the region. I mean, you know, Mayor
- 37:14Speaker 10: James does a great job. Hurricane does a great job
- 37:18Speaker 10: as well. It is it is one of my very
- 37:22Speaker 10: favorite times. But it's a lot of work. I mean,
- 37:23Speaker 10: make no mistake. But the one thing we wanted with
- 37:25Speaker 10: Holly Jolly Braley is free, free, free, free. We forget sometimes, Dave,
- 37:29Speaker 10: these are expensive things for kids to go and if
- 37:32Speaker 10: parents are spending on gifts, or parents are spending on
- 37:36Speaker 10: maybe a saving for a vacation, Holly Jolly Braley is
- 37:40Speaker 10: a place you can come and it's free. Man, it's free.
- 37:43Speaker 10: There's face painting, there are games. We gave all of
- 37:46Speaker 10: the kids these cool refractable glasses where you can see
- 37:50Speaker 10: different designs and the lights the drone show, Doctor Rosenkrantz
- 37:54Speaker 10: WV Medicine did an amazing job. Anyways, it's my understanding though,
- 37:58Speaker 10: for Small Business Saturday, that there were record numbers. Tony Parentzino,
- 38:04Speaker 10: Tony the Taylor, who is the only man I know
- 38:07Speaker 10: who can actually make my two children look stunning. You know,
- 38:13Speaker 10: there were records, so you know, having these events is
- 38:17Speaker 10: fun and it's free for folks, which is so important,
- 38:21Speaker 10: but it also drives it drives business. Yes, there's still
- 38:24Speaker 10: a lot of online which is also you know the
- 38:28Speaker 10: way the way that is, my parents are small business owners.
- 38:30Speaker 10: You have to do sales online, but people like going
- 38:33Speaker 10: into a shop. I went into Chuck Hampshire's shop Purple
- 38:37Speaker 10: Moon and bought several gifts for folks and a little
- 38:40Speaker 10: something for myself. Well, don't tell John Burdette, I know
- 38:43Speaker 10: you're not supposed to one for me, one for you.
- 38:45Speaker 3: I gotta mention this, and I got to get some
- 38:47Speaker 3: text too. But you mentioned Matt Sutton, your chief of staff.
- 38:50Speaker 3: I actually met Matt's dad at Tony the Taylor's. Yeah,
- 38:55Speaker 3: last week. I always thought that Suton was raised by wolves.
- 38:58Speaker 3: He's actually got a family, a super nice daddy, very
- 39:01Speaker 3: very nice gentleman, very nice show.
- 39:03Speaker 10: Tony does it up though. I mean he not only
- 39:05Speaker 10: does he, you know, have the best you know, clothing, shoes,
- 39:09Speaker 10: socks and custom fit you know for those of us
- 39:13Speaker 10: who you know may not can pull something right off
- 39:15Speaker 10: of a rack. He also feeds you really well yeah
- 39:19Speaker 10: he does.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, let's get to some texts or Texas
- 39:22Speaker 3: can the mayor look into the pickup traffic at Wholes
- 39:25Speaker 3: Elementary pickup is at two the line on Louden Heights
- 39:29Speaker 3: starts at around one thirty and by one forty the
- 39:31Speaker 3: traffic is wrapped around the curve, inhibiting through traffic.
- 39:34Speaker 10: You know, we talked about this, Dave. I think it
- 39:36Speaker 10: was we were We talked about it on the show,
- 39:38Speaker 10: did we not a couple of months ago, and we
- 39:40Speaker 10: actually had some folks go out to talk to the
- 39:43Speaker 10: school and as communication for parents, and you know, my
- 39:47Speaker 10: kids rode the bus sands them having a dentist or
- 39:50Speaker 10: doctor's appointment or a kid who is in speech, like
- 39:53Speaker 10: a couple of days a week. I'd have to pick
- 39:54Speaker 10: up early it. You know, that's why we have you know,
- 39:58Speaker 10: bus routes running as well. We do our very very best.
- 40:03Speaker 10: But when you have you have Holts, you have Overbrook,
- 40:07Speaker 10: you have John Adams, you have GW you have Kenna.
- 40:10Speaker 10: In that really heavy populated area, it does get it
- 40:14Speaker 10: does get really sticky. But I definitely will look into it,
- 40:17Speaker 10: and I'll make a call to the board office today
- 40:20Speaker 10: later on today.
- 40:21Speaker 3: Texas, Dave. Hopefully coach Hough will stick around with a
- 40:24Speaker 3: nice new contract, great communicator, and coach Rummel has been
- 40:27Speaker 3: leaving for Southern Mississippi. Yeah, I've heard those same rumors
- 40:30Speaker 3: as well Techs.
- 40:31Speaker 10: We've had him for as long as we had so.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Texas, Dave, big thanks to me or a good one
- 40:34Speaker 3: and to everyone else involved with bringing a drone light
- 40:37Speaker 3: show to Holly Jolly Bradley festivities. Hopefully we'll get more
- 40:40Speaker 3: of those unless fireworks way cooler and doesn't scare the dogs.
- 40:43Speaker 10: Yeah, it was really really cool. Our countdown was a
- 40:45Speaker 10: little off at the end, but that's okay, first time
- 40:48Speaker 10: for first time for everything. Plus, by the way, who
- 40:51Speaker 10: I had a whole bunch of children helping me, and
- 40:53Speaker 10: one of the little guys said to me, miss Amy,
- 40:56Speaker 10: you're not supposed to count down again. I said, it's good,
- 40:58Speaker 10: We're just going to overdo it and do it again.
- 41:00Speaker 10: Said okay, when you're working with kids four years old.
- 41:06Speaker 3: So sorry Texas, Texas. Hold on, I'll get the text
- 41:10Speaker 3: moment I new need to get this in here with
- 41:11Speaker 3: Dave Island showing five Ady Live brought to you part
- 41:13Speaker 3: by Morgan to Morgan in America's largest injury law firm.
- 41:16Speaker 3: Mayor Council will we'll meet tonight. One of the items
- 41:20Speaker 3: that's been in the news lately has been an issue
- 41:22Speaker 3: with Panhammley in Charleston, I have councilmen Chad Robinson said
- 41:25Speaker 3: to be on the shows talk about it tomorrow. It
- 41:27Speaker 3: is expected, I guess, to bring it up tonight. What
- 41:29Speaker 3: can what can? What can you tell us about it?
- 41:31Speaker 10: Well, here's what is is good about this council and
- 41:34Speaker 10: in particular about council Member Chad Robinson. You know, having
- 41:39Speaker 10: this through the process. This is, by the way, the
- 41:42Speaker 10: way government is supposed to work. Introduce it, bring it up, Chad.
- 41:47Speaker 10: Chad brought it to committee first, instead of, you know,
- 41:50Speaker 10: trying to shove it down people's throats. I have always found,
- 41:53Speaker 10: in the close to now six years i've been mayor,
- 41:55Speaker 10: if you start to force feed people and shove things
- 41:57Speaker 10: down their throat, they're going to spit it right back out.
- 41:59Speaker 10: But small chewable bytes, let's let's address the problem, let's
- 42:02Speaker 10: talk about the challenges and in small chewable bites, let's
- 42:05Speaker 10: work together. Uh So, Council Member Robinson, I think there's
- 42:08Speaker 10: been great not I think I know there's great input
- 42:12Speaker 10: that's been given to him through other council members, either
- 42:17Speaker 10: on the floor or subsequently. But they're working together on it.
- 42:21Speaker 10: I believe it's going to be introduced tonight. There have
- 42:25Speaker 10: been some modifications and some changes to it as well,
- 42:31Speaker 10: but it needs to be discussed. It needs to be addressed,
- 42:35Speaker 10: and we need to talk about everything that we're doing.
- 42:38Speaker 10: And quite frankly, Dave, somebody said to me, are you
- 42:41Speaker 10: are you? Are you for this or or not for this?
- 42:44Speaker 10: And you know, always at the end of the day,
- 42:46Speaker 10: let's see what's in you know, let's see what's included.
- 42:49Speaker 10: But I have a huge as I was saying to
- 42:52Speaker 10: Councilmember Pepper, I have huge concerns with folks on the
- 42:57Speaker 10: side of the road when our cars are going extremely fast,
- 43:02Speaker 10: and this includes, by the way, when we have kids
- 43:05Speaker 10: out there were signed saying car washed you know today
- 43:09Speaker 10: or support your you know your volleyball team. I want
- 43:12Speaker 10: to support you. Please don't have your daughter standing with
- 43:15Speaker 10: a huge sign in between parked cars coming up Bridge.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Road because kids are counting.
- 43:20Speaker 10: Yes, I mean it, it is.
- 43:23Speaker 4: It is.
- 43:24Speaker 10: One second from a tragedy. We have had people hit.
- 43:28Speaker 10: It is dangerous. Oh, by the way, Pennsylvania and when
- 43:33Speaker 10: you get off in that strip of Pennsylvania from Bridge
- 43:35Speaker 10: to Bridge, it's one of the most dangerous places in
- 43:39Speaker 10: the city of Charleston. There are more accidents there Dave
- 43:42Speaker 10: on opposite side than anywhere in the city. It's always
- 43:46Speaker 10: like number one or number two for accidents. It's very busy.
- 43:49Speaker 10: There's a lot going on. I don't need you distracted.
- 43:53Speaker 10: So I think a lot of it has to do
- 43:55Speaker 10: you know, some of it has to do with panhandling,
- 43:57Speaker 10: some of it has to do with safety and the
- 44:00Speaker 10: amount of accidents that are that are happening, and so
- 44:05Speaker 10: there's there's going to be great conversation. There's gonna be
- 44:09Speaker 10: great conversation, and that is what's most important about this
- 44:13Speaker 10: piece of legislation that Chad and others have been talking about.
- 44:17Speaker 10: And by the way, again it's worth noting doing it
- 44:20Speaker 10: in the right way, calm, cool, collected and talking about
- 44:24Speaker 10: all the pros and cons and and things you know
- 44:26Speaker 10: that maybe he hadn't thought of. You know, he is
- 44:29Speaker 10: a very good council members. We have lots of good
- 44:32Speaker 10: council members that when they present something to counsel, you
- 44:37Speaker 10: know there might be input. As you know, I think
- 44:39Speaker 10: Council Member Annie gave Councilmember rom Since really good input.
- 44:44Speaker 10: Chad said, I hadn't thought about that. Thanks, that's a
- 44:46Speaker 10: that's a great things. It is supposed to work like this.
- 44:50Speaker 10: When you introduce something and shove it down people's throats
- 44:53Speaker 10: and not talk to people about it, that's when things
- 44:55Speaker 10: go south. I think in any by the way, that's
- 44:57Speaker 10: any world we live in, there needs to be more
- 45:01Speaker 10: conversation and more understanding. Because when it was brought up,
- 45:04Speaker 10: my first concern was the kids out there. I have
- 45:07Speaker 10: a you know, I want to have fundraisers. I want
- 45:10Speaker 10: to have free speech. I want but boy, oh boy,
- 45:12Speaker 10: I'll get the first call if somebody gets hit, if
- 45:14Speaker 10: somebody's daughter gets hit when she's standing out there with
- 45:17Speaker 10: a you know, car works today, supports your local blah blah,
- 45:20Speaker 10: I'll get the first call.

- 48:19Speaker 3: I want to talking about the Capital Connector project Mayor.
- 48:21Speaker 3: The final public meeting on the project is set for
- 48:24Speaker 3: Tomorrow night five thirty on the third floor of the
- 48:26Speaker 3: Library Downtown. Now, this whole project is designed to redesign,
- 48:31Speaker 3: if you will, the riverfront along the boulevard. What do
- 48:35Speaker 3: you hope to achieve here overall? And what's been learned
- 48:38Speaker 3: in the first couple of meetings.
- 48:39Speaker 10: Well, very quickly, just for your listeners, it was a
- 48:43Speaker 10: I got a one point seventy five million dollar planning
- 48:46Speaker 10: grant thanks to and only because of Senator Capito and
- 48:50Speaker 10: Senator mansion. During that time we started planning what will
- 48:55Speaker 10: look like, what is needed, and then we went out
- 48:59Speaker 10: for a twenty five million dollar construction grant, which by
- 49:02Speaker 10: the way, we got as well, which was huge, huge, huge,
- 49:06Speaker 10: But we have learned so much about what is important
- 49:10Speaker 10: from our residence. Again, it goes back to the conversation Dave.
- 49:13Speaker 10: When you have an open meeting, you think you know
- 49:16Speaker 10: what they might want, oh more lighting, wider sidewalks, an
- 49:19Speaker 10: area for bikes, an area for walkers, a play place,
- 49:22Speaker 10: a place to fill up your water. But there was
- 49:24Speaker 10: so much other input that we got from folks including
- 49:30Speaker 10: you know, family members who live on the East end.
- 49:32Speaker 10: Boyd be nice to have a small park. Or when
- 49:35Speaker 10: I'm out and I remember those days with a jog
- 49:37Speaker 10: stroller wanting to stop and people are squirming, get them
- 49:40Speaker 10: out of the buggy and have a place to you know,
- 49:42Speaker 10: sit or meet up with someone. So the input has
- 49:46Speaker 10: been absolutely amazing. Again tomorrow night at the Kenawh County
- 49:50Speaker 10: Public Library five point thirty. If you can't make it,
- 49:53Speaker 10: by the way, and by the way, we've received hundreds
- 49:56Speaker 10: of pieces of input. But if you can't, go to

- 50:21Speaker 10: your comments and he'll put him as part of the
- 50:24Speaker 10: part of the public record. But it's been a great
- 50:26Speaker 10: process and Gai and James Yost, they're just they're superstars.
- 50:30Speaker 10: They've helped us through this process and they're great.
- 50:33Speaker 3: Quickly talk about what this could mean for Charleston in
- 50:36Speaker 3: or overall this.
- 50:37Speaker 10: Yeah, you know when I when I started running six
- 50:40Speaker 10: years ago for my first term, I said, we're a
- 50:42Speaker 10: riverfront city that doesn't use a riverfront. But remember the
- 50:46Speaker 10: City of Charleston. I have a budget, I've seven hundred
- 50:48Speaker 10: and fifty employees, and I can't just say I think
- 50:52Speaker 10: I'm going to do a twenty five million dollar project tomorrow.
- 50:55Speaker 10: It takes time, right, there's different projects that we've been
- 50:58Speaker 10: investing in, by the way, but going after these grants
- 51:01Speaker 10: has helped us and will help us transform the riverfront.
- 51:05Speaker 10: If you thought had to was great, if you thought
- 51:07Speaker 10: and by the way it is, or the overlook is great,
- 51:10Speaker 10: which by the way it is. We are going to
- 51:14Speaker 10: take what we have. And by the way, this is
- 51:16Speaker 10: from Magic Island. People think, oh it starts it had
- 51:18Speaker 10: done going down, No, sir, it goes from Magic Island
- 51:21Speaker 10: to the thirty fifth Street bridge. You know, our goal
- 51:24Speaker 10: is to make a full bikeable, walkable community and it's
- 51:28Speaker 10: not just going to be the riverfront. You know, we're
- 51:30Speaker 10: partnering with a whole bunch of folks, including the Business
- 51:33Speaker 10: Improvement District, which Lewis Payne chairs and he does an
- 51:37Speaker 10: exceptional job to make through streets as well. Having safe
- 51:41Speaker 10: accessible roads is what we need because by the way, Dave,
- 51:44Speaker 10: my kids, these kids, they're young, they don't want to
