Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Training Camp Cast. The Patriots Training

Speaker 1: Camp Cast is your source for all the news from
• 0:11
Speaker 1: Patriots training Camp. Well, I do still watch the news.
• 0:14
Speaker 1: Practice is over, But the writers of Patriots dot com
• 0:17
Speaker 1: have you covered? What did I miss yesterday? Now here
• 0:19
Speaker 1: to review today's practice? The writers of Patriots dot com,
• 0:23
Speaker 1: all right, day one, Patriots Training Camp twenty twenty two.
• 0:27
Speaker 1: In the books, I might do. So. This is Paul
• 0:29
Speaker 1: Pirillo with me as always, and we are high above
• 0:32
Speaker 1: the fields of Gillette Stadium's practice facilities. And Paul, we
• 0:38
Speaker 1: just got through the first practice. There were actually some
• 0:41
Speaker 1: things to watch, good crew, not a lot of not
• 0:42
Speaker 1: a lot of missing faces that we weren't expecting, and
• 0:46
Speaker 1: pleasant surprise and some nice plays. A couple of nice plays, especially,
• 0:49
Speaker 1: I think DeVante Parker probably let's start at the top
• 0:51
Speaker 1: with him, a couple of nice touchdown catches, celebrating with
• 0:54
Speaker 1: the crowd. It seems like his kind of contested catchability
• 0:58
Speaker 1: was immediately onto play. Yeah, I thought, just as advertised.
• 1:02
Speaker 1: You know, there's the kinds of the plays. I think
• 1:03
Speaker 1: he victimized a couple of the rookies, Marcus Jones and
• 1:05
Speaker 1: Jack Jones on a couple of plays and what I
• 1:08
Speaker 1: really liked, um, we talked about this a lot during
• 1:10
Speaker 1: our broadcast, was just the energy that he and Kendrick
• 1:13
Speaker 1: Bourne in particular brought to the field after these plays,
• 1:17
Speaker 1: a lot of enthusiasm running over to the crowd, getting
• 1:20
Speaker 1: the crowd into it. I thought it was a little
• 1:21
Speaker 1: subdued for the most part in terms of the crowd,
• 1:24
Speaker 1: but not when those guys were involved. They really got
• 1:27
Speaker 1: things going and the crowd sort of followed suit after that. Absolutely,
• 1:30
Speaker 1: you mentioned Marcus Jones, somebody we didn't really see in
• 1:32
Speaker 1: the spring, was recovering from injury. He was out here.
• 1:35
Speaker 1: It looks like he's a full go, which is good news.
• 1:38
Speaker 1: Another rookie who showed up with a couple of nice
• 1:40
Speaker 1: catches too, Taekwon Thorte. Not you know, not overwhelming production here,
• 1:43
Speaker 1: but day one a camp, a little bit involved, second
• 1:46
Speaker 1: round pick, guy with some speed that you can clearly
• 1:48
Speaker 1: see jump off the field. Any of the other you
• 1:52
Speaker 1: know rookies, guys that kind of caught your eye here
• 1:54
Speaker 1: in the early going, Paul, you know, Marcus Jones would
• 1:57
Speaker 1: be the one. I know you mentioned him. He was
• 2:00
Speaker 1: a you know, involved in punt returns and you know
• 2:03
Speaker 1: how much I like these these electric kind of guys
• 2:05
Speaker 1: that can that can provide a boost, a jolt of energy.
• 2:08
Speaker 1: So I was glad to see him get a chance.
• 2:10
Speaker 1: Kyle Dugger, who I've been looking for in that regard
• 2:14
Speaker 1: for three years now. So those guys, you know, getting
• 2:17
Speaker 1: a chance to handle some punts. But I'm gonna give
• 2:19
Speaker 1: you not a rookie, Mike, but a guy who you've
• 2:21
Speaker 1: been pointing out is Josh Bledsoe. And I think he
• 2:24
Speaker 1: continues to sort of get some opportunities. Jabill Peppers still
• 2:27
Speaker 1: on pup, so there's a little bit of an opportunity
• 2:31
Speaker 1: here to get some reps early on, and he was active,
• 2:33
Speaker 1: He had a nice pass defense, looked like Belichick was
• 2:35
Speaker 1: talking to him a little bit right after that, so
• 2:38
Speaker 1: I think he's shown up a little bit. Josh Bledsoe. Yeah,
• 2:41
Speaker 1: it's a name Patriot fans will be familiar with, not
• 2:44
Speaker 1: quite the same position or body type, but certainly we'll
• 2:47
Speaker 1: all enjoy seeing a Bledzo on the back of a
• 2:49
Speaker 1: Patriots jersey. Here, we're still watching the team, kind of
• 2:52
Speaker 1: a little get together. Paul big thing we've been talking
• 2:55
Speaker 1: about all season. Josh McDaniels is gone, everybody wants to
• 2:58
Speaker 1: know how are the Patriots going to replace him? We
• 3:01
Speaker 1: got a little bit of a taste of it in
• 3:03
Speaker 1: the spring, and it seems like it kind of carried
• 3:05
Speaker 1: over here today. What we saw then, we're seeing kind
• 3:08
Speaker 1: of Now, why don't you lay out for us exactly
• 3:11
Speaker 1: what it seems like that the mechanics of the offensive
• 3:13
Speaker 1: operation are here? Yeah, you know, just from a personnel point,
• 3:17
Speaker 1: you know, we talked a lot about the offensive line
• 3:19
Speaker 1: with with brown and wind sort of switching spots that
• 3:22
Speaker 1: remains in place, and something we talked about extensively last summer, Mike,
• 3:27
Speaker 1: and you brought this up late in the broadcast. All
• 3:29
Speaker 1: red zone. Yeah, you know, all red zone work again
• 3:32
Speaker 1: Seven on seven's full team even running game kind of
• 3:35
Speaker 1: you know, they were looking on some running fits. So
• 3:38
Speaker 1: that's probably a continuation of the install that we saw
• 3:41
Speaker 1: in the spring. You know, it's just sort of you know,
• 3:43
Speaker 1: sprinkling a little the red zone stuff now too. You
• 3:47
Speaker 1: know it it's I always find it hard to sort of,
• 3:50
Speaker 1: you know, make any wide you know, sort of wide
• 3:53
Speaker 1: sweeping evaluations off of these shorts and T shirts kind
• 3:57
Speaker 1: of things. But you're starting to see it come together
• 3:59
Speaker 1: a little, but the progress is being made. And I
• 4:02
Speaker 1: think the red zone work today was you know, what
• 4:04
Speaker 1: would they go about ninety minutes today and it was
• 4:06
Speaker 1: almost entirely in the red zone. Well, let's wrap it
• 4:09
Speaker 1: up just with you know, a little couple observations on defense,
• 4:12
Speaker 1: I mean, turnover a cornerback, turnover a linebacker. Uh. It
• 4:15
Speaker 1: seemed like a lot of different guys in the mix,
• 4:17
Speaker 1: Ray Kua, McMillin coming off of the pup list, Mac Wilson,
• 4:21
Speaker 1: Jawan Brentley. Of course in the mix, Malcolm Butler. We
• 4:24
Speaker 1: saw Jayala Mills have a have a nice interception or sorry,
• 4:27
Speaker 1: nice pass breakup? Um who got the interception later? That
• 4:30
Speaker 1: was Joan Williams got the the interception later in the way.
• 4:34
Speaker 1: So a lot of guys kind of rotating in overall.
• 4:36
Speaker 1: Anybody you know defensively that that stood out to you?
• 4:39
Speaker 1: Uh in that creep Yeah, I thought that those guys
• 4:41
Speaker 1: that you mentioned periodically showed up with some uh you know,
• 4:45
Speaker 1: some some place here and there. But uh, it looks
• 4:48
Speaker 1: like Terrence Mitchell is a guy that seems to be
• 4:52
Speaker 1: I don't want to say first in line, but he's
• 4:54
Speaker 1: getting the first opportunity. We know Mills is probably going
• 4:56
Speaker 1: to be one of you know, if you say there's
• 4:58
Speaker 1: there's three starting corners, like you know, right, it looks
• 5:01
Speaker 1: like Mills is going to be handling one of those responsibilities.
• 5:05
Speaker 1: Terrence Mitchell today looked like he was with him a lot,
• 5:07
Speaker 1: So you know, we'll see if Malcolm Butler gets more
• 5:09
Speaker 1: opportunities moving forward. He was victimized by Nelson Agalore a
• 5:13
Speaker 1: nice little back back corner fade, you know, latent practice.
• 5:17
Speaker 1: Mac dropped it in the bucket. As they like to say,
• 5:19
Speaker 1: that's football talk for those I don't understand these things. Yeah,
• 5:22
Speaker 1: I don't want to speak over your head and technical Okay,
• 5:25
Speaker 1: well hey it was, you know, maybe not the most
• 5:27
Speaker 1: eventful practice, certainly, a lot of stuff happened, some great plays,
• 5:30
Speaker 1: guys getting the crowd pumped up. So we're excited. We're
• 5:33
