- 0:00I'm Abby and I'm Anna, and this is series beef welcome.
- 0:05All right, I was ready at that time.
- 0:06I think it. I know.
- 0:08I was like others I'm going to record always.
- 0:12I'm going to. We're going to start.
- 0:13And I'm typing on the phone. I'm going to here record.
- 0:17Because last time. You were like, I was like, OK,
- 0:20ready start. Yep.
- 0:23I'm like what in the? World.
- 0:25You said you were ready. I'm a big fat liar.
- 0:29So. OK.
- 0:31OK, so let's talk about our beef.
- 0:35What's our beef, girl? I got some major beef.
- 0:38I mean it is prime. Filet Mignon.
- 0:41If you will. Have you done?
- 0:43It I'm telling you what. OK recently I took a trip to
- 0:50Chicago love to go up to the Windy City and visit wouldn't
- 0:55want to live there. Wish I could have a condo up
- 0:58there so I could go up whenever I want and not have to worry
- 1:01about hotel and stuff. But I do like to visit.
- 1:04We go up of course we have a concert, the AK Pop concert to
- 1:07go to. We get on the train.
- 1:10We always, if we stay in the city, we take the train because
- 1:13I don't want to drive around downtown Chicago.
- 1:16If we stay out like Rosemont, places like.
- 1:19Yeah. Further out, we'll go ahead and
- 1:20drive anyway. So we're staying.
- 1:23We're staying. We're staying in Greektown.
- 1:24So we go ahead and drive up. I mean, we go ahead and take the
- 1:26train. Sorry.
- 1:27And we we get on in Saint Louis and then in Bloomington.
- 1:31We're going to pick up my sister.
- 1:33Yeah, OK. We're going to pick up your
- 1:34aunt. Mayor, we know.
- 1:36Everybody knows Mayor she, she drives over, it's like maybe 45
- 1:41minute drive or whatever over from where she's at parks and
- 1:43she goes to Bloomington Station. So we get on the train.
- 1:46Your sisters, your two sisters sit together.
- 1:49I get in the seat, it's 2, two seats, OK.
- 1:53And I have the seat next to me and I put my bag on it, my
- 1:56little tote bag. And the conductor comes.
- 2:00They're called conductors that come, they come through.
- 2:02Yeah, take your ticket and they and they whatever.
- 2:05And she says, everybody get your stuff off the seat next to you.
- 2:08We have a full train, so don't have anything on the seat next
- 2:13to you. If it's empty, make it available
- 2:15for somebody getting on. Well, I'm my sister's going to
- 2:17take this seat. We've done this many times.
- 2:22This is the first time we had a crew.
- 2:24The conductors were all women. OK, we've always had normally a
- 2:28banger. We love it.
- 2:29Normally, I'm all for it, I'm all for it.
- 2:32Not this time. Oh no, we didn't have our usual
- 2:35guys that were our conductors who are normally very helpful,
- 2:39very nice, and do not have a problem with me keeping this
- 2:42seat for my sister. First of all, to clarify, I'm
- 2:46also in a walking boot for Achilles tendonitis and so I
- 2:50struggled to get on the train. Sorry, back up, back up.
- 2:58First thing they did was they sent us to platform A when we
- 3:02should have gone bastards. Because I don't know.
- 3:05I don't know if you've. Ever.
- 3:06I've never read the track. You know what?
- 3:08In Saint Louis, you have to go up an escalator.
- 3:11OK, cross a like a bridge. It's all indoor.
- 3:15It's a rope hanging. Kind of thing.
- 3:17It is. It is.
- 3:19We swing across the rope. Across.
- 3:20Alligators below. Now the tracks are below you.
- 3:23Cross this bridge it and you go down another escalator and it
- 3:27takes you out to your platform. There's an A and there's AB.
- 3:33That's not a huge station. OK, well, they sent us to A and
- 3:37then they went, oh, sorry, you need to go to B.
- 3:41Now there's only one escalator. It can be reversed to going up
- 3:45or to going down. Well, it's going down well, so
- 3:48we can't go back up. Now you have to climb.
- 3:51So they're on the opposite. Sides.
- 3:53Yeah, we have to go now. We have to go back up, go over
- 3:57and come back down to get to the other side.
- 3:59Yeah, well, I'm not climbing stairs with my massive suitcase,
- 4:03which is full of freebies that we made.
- 4:04There's no clothes. It's all freebies in a boot.
- 4:08Right. And the person made the
- 4:10announcements like, sorry. And we're like, no.
- 4:14Sorry, sorry. I'll sweeten my tea, everybody.
- 4:16Legit. Everybody goes back up.
- 4:18We go to the elevator, Liv and I go to.
- 4:20Liv says. Sam goes, I'm going to take the
- 4:21stairs and Liv says I'll stay with mom.
- 4:23So we go to the elevator, we go up, we go over, come back down.
- 4:26Now we're going to get on the train.
- 4:28No one is helping anybody with their luggage, helping anybody
- 4:30get on. Usually the guys, there's
- 4:32several guys there that are helping you get your suitcases
- 4:34up, especially if somebody's in a wheelchair, whatever, they're
- 4:36helping people. There's nobody there helping.
- 4:38I don't know where they all were.
- 4:39They're all were implied for me, I guess.
- 4:40I don't know, I'm struggling. On to the train.
- 4:43Sam is helping get help and get my, she came down, got my
- 4:46suitcase, whatever. We made it.
- 4:47We're like, OK, we're fine. But now she walks through the
- 4:51aisles and she sees my bag, and she's like, you're going to need
- 4:53to move that. But she doesn't say it like
- 4:55this. She's like, you're going to need
- 4:56to move that. Oh, boy.
- 4:57That's how she says it. It's very aggressive and it's
- 5:00very sharp. And I said, oh, my sister's
- 5:04getting on in Bloomington, So if you don't mind.
- 5:06I mean, I can move the bag and everything if you still want me
- 5:08to. But I'm going to have my sister
- 5:10sit here. Yeah.
- 5:12And she's like, that's too far. What do you mean?
- 5:15It's too far, you know the trick doesn't and.
- 5:17I'm like, we're going all the way to Chicago, baby.
- 5:19I don't know what the problem is.
- 5:21I didn't say that. I just kept quiet because she
- 5:24she just said that's too far. And then she goes no saving
- 5:27seats like that and I go wow. I literally said wow because it
- 5:34was so mean and it was so hard. Like that, that kid that's in
- 5:38kindergarten with you, that's like, just like.
- 5:42I, I literally said wow. And I looked over at Sam and I
- 5:45said that's new because I was like, no one has ever talked to
- 5:49me like that on the Amtrak people.
- 5:51The conductors have always normally been very, very
- 5:53helpful. Where are you going?
- 5:55Where do you guys always? Talk about a positive we have.
- 5:57Always had an excellent experience riding I I love
- 6:00riding the train. I will pick the train over
- 6:02flying any day any day. It's so much more roomier.
- 6:07Everything about I I normally typically very much so love you
- 6:09don't have the massive amount of security to go through to get
- 6:11on. I mean it's excellent.
- 6:14Not this time, not this, and I said, well, normally the
- 6:21conductors are are are super nice about it.
- 6:23They know she's getting on. She's bought a ticket.
- 6:24You know she has a seat. They're OK with her this being
- 6:28her seat. You know, can I just let her
- 6:32have this seat? She has a ticket, right.
- 6:35It doesn't matter if I save this seat for her.
- 6:37She's there's a seat coming to her, you know right.
- 6:39I understand it's the full thing.
- 6:41This isn't like a somebody we're sneaking on the train.
- 6:43I'm not sneaking any by on. She's bought the seat and she's
- 6:46looks at me and she's like, if you don't want to comply, I will
- 6:50remove you from this train before we even get started.
- 6:54Ma'am, I already took the bag off the seat.
- 6:56What in the world I had not I had before I could even reach
- 6:59for the bag and move it. She's like if you don't want to
- 7:01comply, she was going to kick my ass off that train.
- 7:04Jesus and save a liver like. You know they're.
- 7:08Freaking out, I'm going to. Kicked off Get kicked on the
- 7:10train. Right.
- 7:12I'm like. What is happening?
- 7:14What alternate universe? Have I landed in?
- 7:17We went to plan from a probably should have just stayed over
- 7:19there. You know, like whatever trains
- 7:20come and put me on that one because this bitch right, it's
- 7:23like I'm listen, I'll move it, that's fine.
- 7:25And I literally said I'm moving it, don't worry about it.
- 7:28And I moved it and put it under my seat so that the seat was
- 7:31open. Unbelievable.
- 7:34It's like, I'm just going to say something to some.
- 7:35Every single person comes to sit down and be like my sister.
- 7:38I never had to say, well, that's, that's my, my text.
- 7:41My sister said OMG almost just got kicked.
- 7:42Off the train. God.
- 7:45Because she's a child. Had to talk to my sisters.
- 7:47And and find out robbery your story you go right at that you
- 7:50were not being too. Mean no, I was not.
- 7:53It it is, it is out of character.
- 7:55I I you you've freaking atone with people before, but usually
- 7:58they start it. You know what I mean?
- 8:00It's. Like she started it and I did it
- 8:01phone. With customer service, because
- 8:02I've got to do it too, that you're just like, all right, I
- 8:04need to, I need to speak to your manager like, you know, I, I
- 8:06don't want to do this, but you know what?
- 8:08We're too. Far gone.
- 8:09I'll be very honest with you, I But you don't.
- 8:11Usually come in. Like I'm not going to comply.
- 8:15I, I, I will make an effort to absolutely not come in hot to
- 8:19people because we all know you're going to catch more flies
- 8:23with honey than vinegar. Like people respond better to
- 8:26you being nice and and whatever and helpful.
- 8:30I got a story about that. I got to tell you.
- 8:31And, and, and I'm only, like you said, the only time I'm ever
- 8:35going to not be try to be really nice is when, like you said,
- 8:40someone's giving me a hard time 1st.
- 8:41And like I said, it's typically it was some kind of customer
- 8:43service where they're not willing to help me or whatever.
- 8:46But I mean, that's, I really don't want to do that.
- 8:49No, but who wants to do that? I don't want to act like that.
- 8:51And I literally said, you know, this is my sister is getting on
- 8:55in Bloomington. Normally she sits with us.
- 8:57It's not usually a problem, you know, and that's it.
- 8:59I'm not like, I'm like, hey, bitch.
- 9:01And I'm like, no, no, absolutely not.
- 9:04And I did turn to Sam and I said, wow, that's new.
- 9:08I was so shocked, right? And I'm sure that pissed her
- 9:11off, right? But I, I was, I was stunned
- 9:15because I've never been talked to like that on with Amtrak,
- 9:20even flying anything like transports, normally people are
- 9:22quite helpful to get you in your seat, get you going.
- 9:25I've never been never heard because that's the thing so
- 9:28sharp and so mean in my life. I.
- 9:30Feel like with, with planes and, and trains and and automobiles,
- 9:35if you will. No, like in my experience,
- 9:37especially on planes, like the stewardesses and whatnot are
- 9:42like they're no, they don't usually come in bitchy.
- 9:45Not usually because because we both of us know we are going to
- 9:49be trapped on this metal death machine legit for God knows how
- 9:53long we're together. And so we don't really want to
- 9:56piss each other off. You know it's usually they
- 9:58don't. Come in too hot 'cause they're
- 10:00they're stuck there too. It's also at the end of day,
- 10:02it's a business. You are a customer of their
- 10:07business, paying typically. They're trying to make you happy
- 10:11and as comfortable as they can. Correct.
- 10:14Not everything's going to be hunky Dory all the time, but
- 10:16they're going to try. Yeah, the conductors, like I
- 10:19said in the past, we were in the train many times.
- 10:22They're normally extremely helpful.
- 10:25Now they like to get keep you moving because they do have a
- 10:28tight schedule. I don't have a problem with
- 10:29that. No.
- 10:30And but they'll also be really helpful.
- 10:32Now here's the here's the flip side.
- 10:34Now we're going to come home. We're coming home from Chicago.
- 10:37I get a I'm getting a text from am tracker.
- 10:41You get texts and emails about updates, making sure, because
- 10:42they'll let you know if your training is delayed or if
- 10:44there's issues. They'll also tell you like enter
- 10:48the best place to enter is on Clinton St. because then you go
- 10:50into like the grand, the concourse, which is the waiting
- 10:53area. And then you listen for
- 10:55announcements when it's to board and, and you know, so they'll
- 10:57send you helpful information. And then they said if you need
- 10:59assistance, ask for red cab service.
- 11:02And I was like, oh, what is red cab service?
- 11:04I'm in a booth. This I do need assistance.
- 11:07It was a struggle to get on in Saint Louis.
- 11:08So maybe I should check that out.
- 11:10We we walk in, there's a gentleman who is in the Grand
- 11:13Concourse. Like, they stand there, which is
- 11:14which is beautiful. I can't wait for you.
- 11:15You have to travel with us and on the train because Union
- 11:18Station to Chicago is gorgeous. So anyway, so we go in, the guy
- 11:21standing there and he looks at lives to live as a jumbo
- 11:24suitcase. You understand that we all have
- 11:27very big suitcases because we went to two concerts while we
- 11:30were there. Yeah.
- 11:31So you have to have two concert concert outfits.
- 11:34You have to have two concert outfits.
- 11:36Abby, she makes the face. She makes the face.
- 11:38I would say I agree but only because I was probably like
- 11:40sweaty in that one and I would wear a different outfit.
- 11:42Agree. Agree.
- 11:43But your concert outfit is going to be a jeans and T-shirt.
- 11:46Their concert outfit's going to be, well, Sam's in the cowboy
- 11:49hat, boots, and with lots of fringe.
- 11:51Legit. I did see the picture.
- 11:54And and live there, there, Sam, and live there.
- 11:56Concert outfits are over the top.
- 11:58Yeah. And where Mayor and I, we're not
- 12:00quite as over the top, but they were.
- 12:02They have big feet. Sorry, I'm throwing I'm I'm
- 12:05giving this information out. They have big bees and they're
- 12:07wearing boots. You already, you already.
- 12:09Well, we were remember we were talking about the 19 like 40s or
- 12:1450s stewardess thing and you were like, yeah, my children,
- 12:17they can never do it. They got like giant hands and
- 12:19big heads, whatever the fuck you said about.
- 12:21Us. I'm like, I don't think, I don't
- 12:23know if my children can walk down the airplane without
- 12:24hitting their head saying it would.
- 12:26Be too tall. But anyway, we already.
- 12:28You already done through thrown all of us.
- 12:30Under the bus. I'm not even sure if you can
- 12:32imagine how big these boots are that they they have packed.
- 12:35It takes up one whole side of the suitcase.
- 12:37OK, so plus, like I said, we made 400 freebies.
- 12:41Sam went insane. Sam went insane.
- 12:44She loves this group. The group is called Twice.
- 12:47It's a girl group. She adores them.
- 12:49Not just love, she adores them. And she's like, we got, we got
- 12:53to make a lot of freebies. We got to make a lot of
- 12:55freebies. We got, we had 200 freebies for
- 12:56each day. And she insisted that we go to
- 12:58both days. She insists she was.
- 13:00I don't care. I'll pay.
- 13:02I'll pay whatever it takes. We're going on both days and
- 13:04we're like, we honestly couldn't tell her no, we couldn't.
- 13:07She was so excited. And we're just like, you know
- 13:09what you're willing to pay? We're in mayor, mayor, mayor's
- 13:13like I'll pay for a hotel. I.
- 13:15Paid for food, ubers, you know we all figured out I did pay for
- 13:18my tickets but anyway, so I wasn't putting it all on her.
- 13:21I'm like you can pay for Liv so but then Liv got a job so woo
- 13:27Hoo. Anyway, so long story, Long
- 13:28story short, we're on our way home, OK, And we go ask this
- 13:34gentleman about Redcap service. He's like, Oh yeah, here's a
- 13:37little area, sit here, I'll give him a call.
- 13:40He calls. I got four people come.
- 13:43We need you to pick him up. The one lays in a boot so she
- 13:46doesn't need assistance. OK, Little dude comes with a no
- 13:49little It was a gentleman. It was a man.
- 13:50Little guy comes with a with a he's driving a little cart with
- 13:54with a little trailer on the end.
- 13:56He puts all the suitcases back there.
- 13:57We sit in a little. Seating.
- 13:59Area golf court kind of thing. He takes us.
- 14:02Right to the right to the door. Of the train, they didn't even
- 14:05check our tickets. They did.
- 14:06They don't check your tickets to get on board.
- 14:08They do not check your tickets prior to getting on.
- 14:11The minute you get in your seat, you know, before we we leave the
- 14:15station, the conductor will come down and scan your ticket.
- 14:17What I'm hearing is that we need to be packing a boot every time
- 14:20I go on the trip. And then so we can ask the
- 14:22Redcap through the Ric and Betsy in Chicago, you can get Redcap.
- 14:25I don't know if you can get Redcap in Saint Louis.
- 14:27Now, what's really funny is that a red like Redcap is a actually
- 14:32like a, there's like a mythology around this, around a creature
- 14:36that is called a redcap. It's like, I think it's like
- 14:39Irish or like Gaelic kind of thing.
- 14:41And it's like like a little evil gnome that wears these like red
- 14:45hats. And then when you said a little
- 14:47guy pulled up, I was like. And stole our luggage I.
- 14:51Was like, it's like a little fake evil, fake creature thing.
- 14:55Yeah. And so like it's red cap
- 14:56service. And then a little guy goes, I'm
- 14:58like. Lookout that he was worried.
- 15:01Don't. Don't call the red cap.
- 15:03He literally was wearing a red cap.
- 15:05That's really funny. And he was so funny.
- 15:07He was giving people shit along the way.
- 15:09These two people were sitting here eating ice cream and he
- 15:11goes, you got some for me. And they're like, and they look
- 15:13over who he goes. He's like, this is.
- 15:16Messing with you. We didn't keep on going.
- 15:18And so then he's like, you guys heading, you guys heading back
- 15:20home? And we're like, yeah, we're
- 15:21heading back to Saint Louis. And he's like, what were you up
- 15:23here for? And we tell him twice he goes,
- 15:25oh, twice and forget I'm I'm over my sex kind of guy.
- 15:28And we're like, we just found out they're.
- 15:29Touring. They're going to be here next
- 15:30over. We'll be back.
- 15:32We had. We had a great conversation with
- 15:34the red cab back. It was amazing.
- 15:37He takes us right to the door. He loaded all of our luggage,
- 15:40which probably was way. Lighter on the way back.
- 15:43You would think. But we had to go shopping.
- 15:49And not a single suit you're inside for Abby.
- 15:51No, no. And I did, but I left it at
- 15:52home. I sat down and.
- 15:54Went grab. I didn't bring your stuff
- 15:55anyway. No, no, no, we thought, well, we
- 15:57have to have a suitcase now so we can go to the K Pop North.
- 16:00Store. And and we spend all of our food
- 16:03budget and we couldn't eat the rest of the trip.
- 16:05But you know what? We had a great.
- 16:06Time and we came back thin. We came back, came back so thin
- 16:10and I had pop tarts in my bag. It was fine.
- 16:13Not a scone. Not just scone inside scone next
- 16:17actually Mus eggs when they're back in October.
- 16:19They're out in Rosemont and that's the hotel with the
- 16:21scones. So we're pretty excited because
- 16:22I literally said where are they? And Liz says Rosemont.
- 16:25And. I went the hotel with the
- 16:27scones. Amazing.
- 16:29So we're so excited. Anyway, so honestly, kudos to
- 16:32Amtrak for the trip home. We had our usual guy conductors
- 16:38and they were great. And of course, Mayor sitting
- 16:41next to me and the guy comes down and scans her tickets and
- 16:44he's like, he goes, we're in the Saint Louis car because they put
- 16:48you in car by where you're getting off typically.
- 16:50And he goes, OK, you guys are going to Saint Louis.
- 16:54He turns in there and goes, but you're going to Bloomington.
- 16:56She goes, I know, just tell me which way to go because they
- 17:00don't open every door when they make a stop because they'll open
- 17:03the door for the Bloomington people because you can't just
- 17:06get off. It's quick.
- 17:08You know, they stop, they kick your butt off and they move.
- 17:10You know, we go on, we don't. Thank God when they get to Saint
- 17:14Louis, they'll stop. And if you need a smoke break or
- 17:15whatever, you can get out because then that train will go
- 17:17on to Kansas City and whatnot. But they don't stop and let you
- 17:21off at every, not every door opens.
- 17:22So she's like, just tell me which door to go out.
- 17:23And he goes, OK, you're going to go out down here.
- 17:25And then he went on his way. He didn't care that she's in the
- 17:28wrong car. He didn't care.
- 17:31You know, he wasn't, he wasn't. She meant business, but it was
- 17:35unnecessary. I'm like, somewhere along the
- 17:37line, maybe somebody must have given her a hard time or
- 17:42something. I'm sure people get angry about
- 17:46having to leave the seat open or whatever so that now she's just
- 17:50a hard ass about it and it was so unnecessary that I and she's
- 17:56not wearing a name tag because I am going to file a complaint
- 17:58with that. I absolutely am.
- 18:00It was so it was so mean. Do not threaten me to kick me
- 18:05off a train when I was doing nothing wrong, right?
- 18:07I'm like, that was so uncalled for.
- 18:10My thing is, my thing is like if it had been in a situation where
- 18:13somebody needed the seat and you were like being like, I'm not
- 18:17giving the seat up or whatever this is.
- 18:18That's a completely different situation.
- 18:20But absolutely nobody is sitting here.
- 18:22Honestly, it what does it. Matter right now, at that point,
- 18:26it did not matter again, we're the first stop in Saint Louis,
- 18:29so we're going to go all we're going to whole bunch of stops.
- 18:31And if somebody got on and they insisted on handing that seat,
- 18:34I'm going to let him sit there. I'm not going to be a jerk about
- 18:37it. But again, I know that there are
- 18:40enough seats that for the tickets that they've sold.
- 18:43I know this. I know.
- 18:44Yeah. OK.
- 18:45So there's no reason for for her to say that to me.
- 18:49And, and you know it, My, my mayor says to me, just tell them
- 18:54I'm in the bathroom if anybody asks.
- 18:56You. Oh, good call.
- 18:57The call but no one ever asked me if they could have the seat
- 19:00because I was sitting in the aisle in the window seat was
- 19:02what I left open. Yep.
- 19:04And so it was a non issue. Yeah.
- 19:06And it normally isn't a non issue.
- 19:08It never has been in the past. And I don't know, is a non
- 19:11issue. Yeah, it always is a non issue.
- 19:13And she made it an issue that didn't have to be.
- 19:17And so it was really uncalled for.
- 19:19And I'm like, I couldn't. She didn't wear a name tag and I
- 19:23took her. I took her picture with my
- 19:26phone. How did you Did she know that
- 19:28you took her picture? No, she does not know Sneaky
- 19:32because I'm like, if they ask who it is, I'm like, this is all
- 19:34I have. Here's the picture, right?
- 19:35This is who it was when we found out this woman didn't even work
- 19:38for Amtrak. I'm a Rancho.
- 19:39She just likes harassing people on train.
- 19:41This is she's like a hobo and stole a stole a hobo.
- 19:45She's got her little knapsack. Exhale stick.
- 19:46Walking around, no saving seats like Oh my she's.
- 19:50Riding the rails. My God, she's like no saving
- 19:53seats because we're riding the rails.
- 19:55I guess, and I normally love to ride the rails, but that was a
- 19:58very unpleasant that was. Yeah, that's an unfortunate way
- 20:01to get because there was two, there was another.
- 20:02Lady conductor and they weren't very nice.
- 20:05I'll tell you what, they were not nice.
- 20:07Oh dear. Now when we go to boat, we go to
- 20:09Debarg Debarg D board. I don't know why, I don't know
- 20:13what the word is, but to get off the train in Chicago, she's
- 20:17standing there by the door. And that's when I took her
- 20:18picture because we were like lined up and I just went gleamed
- 20:21out and clicked. So so I get to the door and Sam
- 20:24gets my Sam goes down 1st and she takes my suitcase and then
- 20:28I'm going to slowly come down in this boot and she takes my hand
- 20:31and helps me down. I wanted to kick her with the
- 20:34boot but I did not. I'm like, you're mean.
- 20:37You were mean to me. But I need the help.
- 20:40But I need to need your help, so I'll take your hand.
- 20:42But OK. So anyway, that's enough about
- 20:44that. OK, well then that was
- 20:46unpleasant. Let me tell you a really quick
- 20:49funny story. OK, my Co worker, let's lighten
- 20:52my Co worker told me Lisa OK, who just retired, just retired.
- 20:56Good for her. She told us this story.
- 20:58Congrats on your retirement, Lisa.
- 21:00She does not listen to this. You know what we're putting out
- 21:02in the world anyway? It's OK.
- 21:03Yep, it's OK. She tells me the story like
- 21:06maybe the week before she's going to retire.
- 21:07OK, All right. She cracked me up.
- 21:09I should preface that the reason the story came up was because
- 21:12another one of our Co workers had mentioned that, like, he had
- 21:15gone on like a weekend vacation when he was in high school or
- 21:18like, gone with his buddies and had accidentally left the, like,
- 21:22garage freezer standing freezer slightly ajar.
- 21:24Oh, no. And so everything ruined,
- 21:27ruined. Yeah, yeah, yeah, she says.
- 21:30But her and her husband went on a trip, yeah, on vacation or
- 21:34something like that, on a trip or whatever.
- 21:36And so her daughters were at home.
- 21:40They were in high school at the time.
- 21:41So they were. They were leaving home for the
- 21:43weekend. Certainly.
- 21:44And so the daughters have a party.
- 21:46Of course they do. Of course.
- 21:48They do, and she. Said She tells us that
- 21:52everything was like, fine. Like they weren't.
- 21:55Thrilled with the girls, but it was like, whatever, except that
- 22:00somebody or some multiple people had taken all of the meat out of
- 22:06their freezer and just stolen. They stole the meat for.
- 22:09The, and they had like half a cow or a full cow and they, they
- 22:13bought all the stuff and they put it in the freezer.
- 22:14So they use it. The rest of her, somebody
- 22:16fucking stole all of it. She's like, she's like hundreds
- 22:18of dollars worth of steaks and and all this go on go.
- 22:21On this is spicy. These high school kids went out
- 22:24there and go man, these people got, they got some high quality.
- 22:27Beats in here. Imagine being in high school,
- 22:29some serious. Beats the further.
- 22:33I thought you're going to steal it.
- 22:34Look at me. Imagine being in high school and
- 22:36you come back and like you're like, OK like the party, like
- 22:39nothing got broken, everything's fine and your parents go.
- 22:42But then you find out that somebody had fucking stolen all
- 22:45of like an entire cow out of your freezer.
- 22:48It's Can you imagine going out there and they open it and it's
- 22:50empty. Holy shit.
- 22:54Oh man, you guys would have to earn that money back.
- 22:56I'll tell you what, she was not happy.
- 22:59She. Was not.
- 22:59Happy and I'm like I want names because.
- 23:03First of all, who's going? Home with a couple of steaks.
- 23:07Who's cooking these things? Half of a cow.
- 23:11What in high school was going home with all this meat as a
- 23:14parent? Wouldn't you be like, where did
- 23:15you get these? Steaks, right?
- 23:18Or do they be like, alright, sold, let's let's cook it up?
- 23:21I know what's the thing? If I showed up and I was like, I
- 23:23got like 12 steaks, you'd be like.
- 23:25No, I would not. I would not.
- 23:27Ask any Yeah, but my father be like, I'm not going to ask any
- 23:30questions about the where these steaks came.
- 23:31From plane goes outside bars with the grill.
- 23:34He's like. What wings?
- 23:36We are very disappointed. He's pouring the lighter fluid.
- 23:38And all the charcoals. He's rubbing the sea salt.
- 23:42He's like a very disappointed, very disappointed.
- 23:47Oh. My God.
- 23:50Oh my God, that's hilarious. This is this is really tough for
- 23:54me. Overcooked.
- 23:56Meat. This is harder on me than it is,
- 23:58but you, Oh my God. That is so funny.
- 24:02OK, All right. Well, that's a great story.
- 24:06I thought so. Do you want me to finish telling
- 24:08you about about Chicago real quick before we go?
- 24:10On Was there more? You said the whole thing from
- 24:12beginning to when you got on the train.
- 24:13Come hell, there is one funny story.
- 24:15OK that you I've been saving. OK, well, hit me with it.
- 24:17Hit me with it. We are staying out in Greektown
- 24:21and so a gentleman that my sister works with recommended a
- 24:25restaurant called Taco Burrito King.
- 24:28Oh, OK. I was going to say the dancing
- 24:31Zorbas. No, because that is a Greek
- 24:33restaurant. It is in Chicago and there are a
- 24:36lot of Greek restaurants out there.
- 24:37Yeah, in in Greek, my big fat Greek.
- 24:39One, it is true. It's true.
- 24:40But I don't think it. Really.
- 24:41He recommended the Taco Burrito King.
- 24:44And it's out in Greek town for some reason.
- 24:47I don't know, you know, whatever.
- 24:48So we get back from the concert the first night and Sam and Liv
- 24:53are going to go to an after party, meet up with some friends
- 24:55that were actually up there. And Mary and I were like, I'm
- 24:57like, no, I'm in a boot. I didn't wear the boot to the
- 24:59concert because just standing in the boot is very uncomfortable
- 25:02and I'm uneven. I've been there.
- 25:04I wore my very squishy Chuck Taylors of the high tops and I
- 25:08love them. So I was fine.
- 25:09I was fine. I was not in any pain.
- 25:10So I wore those so many. I'm like, I probably shouldn't
- 25:11be on my feet anymore tonight. So I'm going to we're going to
- 25:14stay at the hotel. My very first Grubhub order.
- 25:18I downloaded the app, did my own Grubhub.
- 25:20Order. Oh my God.
- 25:21I'm going to delete that app immediately.
- 25:22That shit is so expensive. I just saw Ashley.
- 25:25That was crazy expensive. Anyway, we ordered.
- 25:29We ordered 2 tacos each and one burrito each.
- 25:32Why? I don't know.
- 25:32We never eat that much food. I don't know why we didn't just
- 25:34order each like a Taco, but whatever.
- 25:38The bag arrives. It is so heavy that you could
- 25:41have knocked somebody out. Oh my God.
- 25:44We get upstairs and we look at this food.
- 25:46The burritos are a foot long. This sounds like a great place,
- 25:50and they are. A It looks like a foot long
- 25:54sandwich. It's a this giant.
- 25:56Oh my. God.
- 25:57The tacos are so fat they don't really even fold up that much,
- 26:03it's insane. Oh my God, how much?
- 26:05We ate each, ate one Taco and we split the burrito and then we
- 26:09rolled into bed because we were so full.
- 26:11We were like so full. So now we've still got 2 tacos
- 26:15and a burrito in the fridge, right?
- 26:17And so I text them like we still have the this of you guys when
- 26:19you get back if you're hungry, if you want it.
- 26:20Well, we had a connecting door, but somehow we accidentally shut
- 26:23our door all the way and there was no doorknob and they
- 26:24couldn't get it. They couldn't get the food.
- 26:27So the next night mayor and I were like, well, we're just
- 26:30going to eat our lift doors. If you guys want to order from
- 26:32something, go ahead. We're going to eat this.
- 26:33So she eats the tacos. So I've got a foot long burrito.
- 26:37I'm not going to eat a foot long burrito, but whatever, I've got
- 26:38it, I've got to go microwave it. There's a microwave down the
- 26:42hall. Down the hall, take a lift,
- 26:44there's a microwave. OK, imagine this full on
- 26:47burrito. This thing is huge.
- 26:48And it's hefty. I mean, it is, it is full of
- 26:52it's very, very heavy. Yeah, I it, it solid.
- 26:56It is solid as a rock. Since it's been in the fridge.
- 26:58I could have broke a window with it.
- 27:00I kid you. Not it is that much going on
- 27:03with this burrito. It is that much going on.
- 27:08I have this, I have no plate. I have no nothing.
- 27:12I have nothing. OK, so I have some napkins.
- 27:16I put it on some napkins and I carry it down and I because I'm
- 27:20not going to just put it on a microwave.
- 27:22Everybody's in microwave in their food, and I don't know
- 27:23what's on this rotating plate. Oh my God, no.
- 27:26You could put it on a plate or something.
- 27:27Well, I have to put it on napkins because I don't have a
- 27:29plate. So I put it in there and I put.
- 27:32It's so big. I did 2 minutes.
- 27:34OK, so I wait. Like case feeling warm, I'm
- 27:37going to flip it over and do another minute because that's
- 27:40how the top part's probably cold.
- 27:43OK, I do another minute. I open the thing and the cheese
- 27:47is now running everywhere. It has melted and it's running
- 27:52out of the microwave onto the floor.
- 27:55I'm like, Oh my God, yes, I am. It's on this in the microwave is
- 28:01on this rickety table that shakes every time you try to
- 28:04open or close the door. It's terrible.
- 28:07I have one napkin in my hand. I I.
- 28:09Wipe up the. Cheese, throw the napkin away.
- 28:12I put my hands under the napkins to pick up the burrito.
- 28:15It is so hot that I am. Burning my hands, I have a.
- 28:20Pepsi a bottle of Pepsi under this armpit like actually like
- 28:25the crook of my elbow okay and I'm holding the burrito Pepsi
- 28:28over here in the crook of my mouth I.
- 28:30Take off running. It is so hot that I am running
- 28:36down the hall. We're down at the end of the
- 28:39hall. I run.
- 28:41Mayor, thankfully has propped the door open with the little
- 28:43bar thing. I hit the door with my all of my
- 28:47body. Boom.
- 28:48I burst into the door. I go, I go.
- 28:52Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God. It is midnight, mind you.
- 28:58I'm screaming, Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God as I run down the
- 29:01hall. It isn't burning my hands so
- 29:03bad, Jesus pouring onto my hands.
- 29:06It isn't burning the fuck out of me.
- 29:08And I burst into the door. I run past the connector.
- 29:11This sees me go back past the door.
- 29:13Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God. Holding the burrito.
- 29:16I'm going to embarrass myself, but I RIP apart and throw the
- 29:22burrito on the counter. Say this Luma's sitting on the
- 29:34bed in the room, just like what the fuck is happening?
- 29:39Maybe her is standing in between the two beds and she sees me
- 29:42come bursting through the door. Oh my God, Throw a burrito on
- 29:46the counter. There's like a the dress where
- 29:49the TV is. There was like a.
- 29:51Bag on there or the luma foil that I came out of.
- 29:54Threw it in there and when motherfucker, my hands are on
- 29:59fire. Why didn't you bring?
- 30:02The the little phone with. You.
- 30:03I don't know, regards. I run into the bathroom and run
- 30:08my hands out. Of cold water, my God.
- 30:11I had set my Pepsi down. The cheese had come out of the
- 30:13burrito and wrapped around my Pepsi.
- 30:16While I was running down the hall, I took a picture of the
- 30:20burrito with the cheese wrapped around the Pepsi.
- 30:23I kid you not, what an experience AB I'm telling you my
- 30:26hands were on fire dying. That's the burrito with the
- 30:30cheese. The cheese.
- 30:31Was wrapped around the fence. Look how big the well, now the
- 30:34burrito. This is this giant ass burrito.
- 30:37Look at this thing. Wow, it's huge.
- 30:41So it was really, really hot. It was really, really hot on the
- 30:44ends especially, which is where my hands are.
- 30:48So we're now we're just laughing hills hysterically because then
- 30:52mayor and I both had to had to pee because we were going to
- 30:54pee. Her pants were alive sore.
- 30:55I'm still I'm still not over it. My hands thankfully no permit
- 30:58damage. I'm good.
- 30:59Well. I was going to say, it's like it
- 31:01burned your. Fingerprints off so you'll never
- 31:02get caught. It's true.
- 31:03I'm safe. Nobody knew that.
- 31:04Nobody. Nobody knew.
- 31:05The cheese left in that microwave was from me.
- 31:08I literally had to run my hands under cold water.
- 31:10And then I was like, OK, I'm fine.
- 31:11I'm fine. Of course I couldn't eat all
- 31:12that. It just was, you know, I ate
- 31:14what I could. I did what I could and.
- 31:16Can you imagine? Liv sees me go running past the
- 31:19door and she's like, what is happening?
- 31:21I'm like, the boy is too hot. Oh my God, hilarious.
- 31:27OK, so that was the funniest thing that happened while we
- 31:28were up there. I'll tell you what.
- 31:30So I couldn't see myself, but according to Mayor me bursting
- 31:34in through the door, carrying a very hot burrito and screaming.
- 31:39Oh my God. Oh my God.
- 31:40Oh my God. And live, seeing me run fast,
- 31:44I've never run that fast in in many, many years.
- 31:48I was, I was, I know I had taken the boot off good because I I
- 31:53went to the concert without it and I was in.
- 31:55I was probably, I was in my just like these tennis shoes.
- 31:58Whatever. Yeah.
- 32:00And yeah, I felt no pain while running down the hall, except
- 32:03for in my hands. My foot didn't hurt at all at
- 32:04that point. OK.
- 32:05So. OK, OK.
- 32:07Well, I'm gonna do a juice sauce.
- 32:08OK, let's. What's our sauce?
- 32:10What do you got? Our sauce is space sauce.
- 32:12Oh, legit space sauce. Let me tell you what space sauce
- 32:16is, Anna. Hit me with it.
- 32:17Space sauce generally refers to the hot sauce that astronauts
- 32:21bring on the International Space Station to combat taste fatigue
- 32:26caused by microgravity. Legit, legit.
- 32:30It's a, it really is space sauce.
- 32:31They Yeah. I don't, I, I take it it's
- 32:34space. It's just hot sauce.
- 32:35But like, they call it like, it's space sauce.
- 32:37You know, that's awesome. Of course it's face sauce, isn't
- 32:40it space? So but yeah, you can have taste
- 32:42fatigue apparently. Wow.
- 32:44And so they bring the hot sauce to kind of like.
- 32:46Combat that. Yeah.
- 32:48Wake them up. Wake up, taste buds.
- 32:50Who knew? I didn't know that.
- 32:51That's an interesting fact. Apparently so why hot sauce and
- 32:55microgravity fluids shift to the upper body, causing congestion
- 32:59that dulls the senses of of smell and taste, making food
- 33:03feel bland. And so hot sauce kind of helps,
- 33:07certainly like one kind of clear some things up, but also you're
- 33:10such an intense. It's such like an intense like
- 33:12flavor kind of thing that it helps you one of the things you
- 33:15can still taste. It's not so bland.
- 33:17Wow, huh. Who knew about that?
- 33:19I did not realize that hot hot sauce is considered like a
- 33:22staple space on space venues. Huh.
- 33:25Me. Yeah, I did not know that.
- 33:27Nope. All right.
- 33:27Learn something new today. I'm gonna tell you about the
- 33:31first untethered, untethered spacewalk.
- 33:35Oh, because untethered. Untethered.
- 33:38OK When did that happen? There have been.
- 33:40Seven, apparently that have happened on purpose.
- 33:45Yes. I'm like, was this?
- 33:49Were we supposed to do that? OK.
- 33:51Yes, OK. There have been seven.
- 33:53There have been 7 in total. Tethered.
- 33:56Do they have like a jet pack on so they can fly back?
- 33:58Correct. Oh, OK.
- 33:59Cool, cool, cool. OK.
- 34:00That's what it like. But you're not tied off.
- 34:03But you're not tied off on the fucking thing.
- 34:04No, no, no. It's like if you start drifting
- 34:06too far. You're going to be.
- 34:08If you're something malfunctions on your suit.
- 34:09Yeah, you're going to froze. Freeze in death, Freeze in
- 34:11death. That's freeze in space.
- 34:12That's all folks. You run out of air, you run out
- 34:16of air and that's it. Yep, there's been.
- 34:18There was one in 1994 that was called the SAFER test. 1994 that
- 34:2390. 4 safer test that's a cat like it's a acronym for
- 34:27simplified aid for Eva rescue. So it was a, they were testing a
- 34:32device that would help them move freely and to test like
- 34:36emergency rescue capabilities. So it was just a, it was just a
- 34:38test, but they and they haven't had to use it.
- 34:39But that's 94 in 84. 84 is when. Is when they did the thing.
- 34:45I'm specifically talking about Bruce.
- 34:47Bruce McCandless the second. What a name.
- 34:50Nice. Bruce McCandless the second.
- 34:53You have undoubtedly seen of this photo, probably of him.
- 34:58I will show you. Let me see it.
- 35:00OK, there are two photos that I'm going to.
- 35:02Show you first. This one.
- 35:04You've only seen this photo. This is Bruce.
- 35:06This is Bruce and the other guy, Bruce McCandless.
- 35:09The second. Damn, I you know what?
- 35:10I never knew his name. And when I was in college, I
- 35:12went to a Bruce party and I could have been Bruce
- 35:15McCandless. Damn, do you know who I was?
- 35:18I was Bruce Souter. Also.
- 35:19Awesome. What?
- 35:20Year. What year did you go?
- 35:21It was in. It was in 89.
- 35:24OK, see, it could have been Bruce McCain.
- 35:26Could have been fine, but and then Robert Stewart took that
- 35:30photo. He was the only.
- 35:31He was the other. Guy, he was the guy and they
- 35:33were both out there. That's incredible.
- 35:35But they did. They did 6 space walks in total.
- 35:39Legit. In 1984.
- 35:41And they have a jet pack on thing.
- 35:43You saw it. I see.
- 35:44It looks like the jet pack to me.
- 35:45Yes, yeah. So he's got, he's got the thing
- 35:47on him. Look at him.
- 35:48Because, you know, now see the earth.
- 35:50Behind him, that's. Incredible.
- 35:51Now here's the thing. I've always seen this photo.
- 35:54OK, OK spacewalk. OK, but the photo that I had not
- 35:57ever seen is the zoomed out photo of how far away he was
- 36:02when they when it was this. It's gonna be terrifying.
- 36:05Look at him. That's him.
- 36:07He's very far away. Oh my God, look, I zoomed in.
- 36:11Look, look at this. You can't even see the Earth.
- 36:13Y'all, he's so far away. Look how far away he is out
- 36:16there so. The guy taking the picture is
- 36:17also doing a. Free, I believe he's in a free
- 36:20he's. In a no.
- 36:21Guarantee, no guarantee that he was doing an untethered thing
- 36:24while this guy are they? Is he Well, they're in space.
- 36:26The international OK, no shit out of you above They're
- 36:29orbiting the Earth. I don't clearly right.
- 36:32Are they? Was the space station.
- 36:33Built there. I don't know by then.
- 36:35I don't know. We got to find out when did this
- 36:36happen. 8484 OK, OK, OK, so Challenger is where he was.
- 36:43They launched from the Kennedy Space Station in February
- 36:46February 3rd, 1984. He was in.
- 36:49They launched Challenger. My gosh.
- 36:52Which I believe was used multiple times.
- 36:55Yeah, before it blew. Up.
- 36:56So he was on Challenger launched.
- 36:58So they're just up there on Challenger orbiting the Earth,
- 37:02is what they were doing. Because the space station was
- 37:04not built. The assembly didn't begin until
- 37:081998. OK, I felt like that was too
- 37:10soon. He so his.
- 37:12So they're just up there. They're just up there ordering
- 37:14and orbiting in the in the Challenger.
- 37:16OK, OK, OK. And so the untethered, the
- 37:18untethered walks are called like an, it's like an Eva is what
- 37:21it's referred to as OK. And so it's like his first Eva
- 37:24lasted 6 hours and 17 minutes. Are you for real?
- 37:28He's jealous loose he and he's having the time of.
- 37:31His life and then the second one, which was Stewart.
- 37:34So they were not going at the same time.
- 37:36But somebody, so somebody, he's out there on Challenger.
- 37:39The dude is on Challenger. He's taking a picture of him.
- 37:42He's well, he. Might be outside too, but he's
- 37:44certainly he's tethered. Thing.
- 37:46Yeah. And he's taking a picture of how
- 37:48far away he was. Wow, he got that far.
- 37:52It's he's in the Manned Maneuvering Unit, the NMU.
- 37:55That's so. Oh, I'm so sorry.
- 37:57That's photographed by Robert Gibson, whoever that guy is for
- 38:00you, Robert. Sorry, Rob.
- 38:02That is so terrifying and amazing at the same time.
- 38:04So 6 hours and 17 minutes. And then Stewart was in was on
- 38:08the second Eva. His lasted 5 hours and 55
- 38:11minutes. Wow.
- 38:13And they're just out there tooling around in space.
- 38:15And then so it launched on the 3rd and then on February 11th,
- 38:19after 8 days in orbit, Challenger made the first
- 38:21landing on the runway at Kennedy Space Center.
- 38:24Was that the first? I guess so.
- 38:26First time Challenger went up. Wow.
- 38:29Yep. So.
- 38:31Wild, That is wild. He so Yeah.
- 38:38So he's he did the first untethered.
- 38:41Space, and that was in 1984. Now technically the astronauts
- 38:45were also not tethered when they went on the moon, but that I
- 38:47don't really count that they're talking like.
- 38:50Loose in space they cuz they had land on the moon and they had
- 38:53the the suits on that would keep them from flowing away.
- 38:56While on the moon, some gravity on the moon.
- 38:58There is some correct correct SO.
- 39:01But yeah, no, it's like, wow, that's that's amazing.
- 39:05Yep, I didn't realize it was that long ago.
- 39:07And he served, he served the same guy before his flight.
- 39:13He served as Mission Control capsule communicator, the
- 39:16Capcom, if you will. If you've heard that to more on
- 39:19Apollo 11. And he did.
- 39:21And then he finally got to go up.
- 39:22Yep. So during the first So he was
- 39:25the Capcom guy during the first lunar moonwalk with Neil
- 39:29Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin? Yep.
- 39:31And then, before joining the astronaut crew for the Apollo 14
- 39:34mission, on which he also doubled as doing, he also was a
- 39:38Capcom. But he was all on the mission
- 39:40he. Was on the mission.
- 39:41Yeah. And then?
- 39:44Folks, you have to understand this about me.
- 39:46Abby knows this about me. I love space exploration.
- 39:51It is fascinating, is insanely cool to me.
- 39:56Show. Give me a move.
- 39:57My favorite movie all time. Apollo 13.
- 40:00Yeah, incredible. Hidden Figures.
- 40:01I'll probably watch that tonight when I go home.
- 40:04And because I watched Apollo 13 while I was getting ready to go
- 40:06to the concert. No shit.
- 40:08I thought it was hilarious that Artemis is up there on the way
- 40:11to the moon and they show Apollo 13 on.
- 40:13The on the moon wild. I was like.
- 40:15Wow. Wow, you don't?
- 40:16Need to be manifesting. That this channel is not afraid
- 40:19of jinxing anything. They're not either.
- 40:21They're not. And I'm like, you know what?
- 40:22I don't care. This is my favorite movie of all
- 40:24time. I love it.
- 40:25I watched it while I was getting ready to.
- 40:26Go well, so OK, so he was McCandless Bruce I'm just
- 40:30calling Bruce Bruce stop saying McCandless.
- 40:32Absolutely, absolutely. So Bruce was part of the
- 40:36investigation. He was a Co investigator on the
- 40:39M509, I don't know astronaut maneuvering unit experiment that
- 40:44was flown on Skylab. I don't know what any of those
- 40:46things mean, but his work on on this being a Co investigator is
- 40:50what led him to be in collaborate collaboration on the
- 40:53MMU that I the manned maneuvering unit that and that's
- 40:59what was used during like the space shuttle, like free walks.
- 41:03And even though he's classified as like a pilot because he'd
- 41:08worked on that, that's why he was in the MMU thing for.
- 41:13The six hours when he was out there, Yep.
- 41:15Wow. And then he's also response he
- 41:19was responsible for crew inputs on the development hardware for
- 41:23the Hubble Space Telescope. OK, the solar Maximum repair
- 41:28mission, the and the International Space Station
- 41:32program. What a career yes.
- 41:34I thought you'd like to hear about this guy cuz I don't think
- 41:36most people even know this man's name.
- 41:38Don't. Even know this man's name?
- 41:39No, I didn't even know this. Name.
- 41:40He worked, but yeah, so most people don't know this name, but
- 41:43he's the Capcom guy in which is a big deal if you're in Mission
- 41:49Control, that's a very big deal that you're the Capcom guy for
- 41:51the Apollo 11 mission when they were on the moon.
- 41:54And then he went on, did the first flight and then he also,
- 41:57but he worked on like I said, the Hubble telescope, the
- 41:59International Space Station, etcetera, etcetera.
- 42:01So. What a career.
- 42:03I am blown away. My face, my jaw is like.
- 42:06Dropped so I thought you would like.
- 42:08To hear that, I loved hearing that.
- 42:11Thank you. Yes, that's amazing.
- 42:14And then I believe he's. That guy's living a dream.
- 42:17Literally. Let's see.
- 42:19Incredible. There's the STS 31.
- 42:24Let's see. Well, we were talking about
- 42:26space because Artemis, just the people, the astronauts on
- 42:29Artemis 2 just got home yesterday, right?
- 42:33Was it yesterday, did they? Or was it Friday?
- 42:35And. Look, they they just they did
- 42:37get back. They got back safely, OK, I will
- 42:40watch the live streams of those. They live stream them and it
- 42:43makes me so nervous because I'm like, look at this.
- 42:45If I'm watching a live stream and they and it's like something
- 42:47goes wrong and they blow up, I'm gonna I'm just gonna carry well
- 42:50for. The rest of my life, you know,
- 42:51and, and and I absolutely get get that because they showed
- 42:56Challenger, you know, that was a huge deal.
- 42:59This teacher was going to go up with these, these astronauts.
- 43:02I had decided to become a teacher and they they put this
- 43:07out there and I'm like, Oh my gosh, I'm not a teacher yet.
- 43:10I was studying. I was still in college.
- 43:12I couldn't apply. Yeah, I would have.
- 43:14I would have done it. That was a dream.
- 43:17Go to space. Yeah, it's very cool.
- 43:19I I would have absolutely applied to be the teacher to do
- 43:22that. And so I'm so excited because
- 43:25I'm like, OK, this goes well. Like maybe they'll keep doing
- 43:29it. You know, maybe I'll get a
- 43:30chance. Maybe I'll get a chance.
- 43:31Yeah. And then to stand there and
- 43:33watch that, it's so sad. Actually, I could cry thinking I
- 43:37know So you know what? RIP to the people on Challenger
- 43:40and and we. Were just talking about the
- 43:42Columbia. The Columbia that that those two
- 43:44accidents devastating and those people deserve to be remembered
- 43:49and further their contribution and their sacrifice, I guess
- 43:54because it every time you go in space, you have to know that
- 43:57there's a chance that you you won't come back.
- 43:59I mean, because there's so many things that could have that
- 44:03could go wrong. And, and, and The thing is crazy
- 44:06about that is that it's a tiny little thing.
- 44:09A tiny little thing. Oh, who knows what it could be,
- 44:11can determine, can, you know, be catastrophic.
- 44:16And so you take a chance every time you go.
- 44:18And it's like if you're willing, you're the people who are still
- 44:21willing to to try and to explore and to learn and and experiment
- 44:26and do new things. Like that's amazing.
- 44:28Well, yeah, kudos to them. Well, that's like, that's like,
- 44:30you know, we, we watched a whole thing.
- 44:33The guy that we went to go see at the it's not the foundry, the
- 44:40factory. OK, the factory.
- 44:41Yes, the explorer guy who was what?
- 44:43Was it on? Actually, what's his name?
- 44:46I. Josh.
- 44:47Gates, you want to go see Josh Gates, so he he does a show.
- 44:50Have you never remembered Josh Gates name?
- 44:51Not fucking remember. His name, remember.
- 44:53His name and I don't remember any of this so I can't really
- 44:55give you a hard time about. It so so Josh Gates had a show
- 44:58like all the Tales from the Explorers.
- 45:00Tales from the Explorers. Do you know about the Explorers
- 45:02Club? No, Oh my God, I want to be.
- 45:05In this club it is a very. Exclusive club.
- 45:09What? The Anna The Explorers Club.
- 45:13Is and I can't save seats either.
- 45:14Apparently it's. The worst club is this like very
- 45:18prestigious, like you get into these Forest club, like the
- 45:20people who are like they're the first ones to the North Pole
- 45:23kind of thing. This is this is who was in SO.
- 45:25It's not actually a club. Somebody just named and said
- 45:27these people are in this. Club.
- 45:28No, it's it's a club. Do they have meetings?
- 45:32Yes. Is somebody like the president
- 45:33and isn't it secretary and treasurer?
- 45:35Yes. I'm not even kidding.
- 45:38Yeah, damn, I'm never going to be in this club, the Explorers
- 45:41Club. I just got in trouble around the
- 45:42train. An American based international
- 45:45multidisciplinary professional society with the goal of
- 45:48promoting scientific exploration and field study.
- 45:51It was founded in New York City in 19 O four and has served as a
- 45:54meeting point for explorers and scientists worldwide.
- 45:57How? Damn, that's amazing.
- 45:58Yep, they host a annual dinner. I bet Shackleton could have been
- 46:01in that. Club Shackleton isn't, Oh my.
- 46:03God. What have I done with my life?
- 46:11It's a little waste. Oh man.
- 46:15I do like do they ever give? Out honorary memberships to
- 46:18people who really really really really like I.
- 46:20Don't know, they only just recently started letting women
- 46:23in. Oh, OK.
- 46:24Well, you know, I can't be surprised by that.
- 46:26I should not be surprised. Probably a bunch of white dudes
- 46:29that started it and it's been a struggle.
- 46:31For the women. Well, that's the whole thing,
- 46:33'cause we're watching this thing in like the North Pole.
- 46:35It's like there's some controversy about whether it was
- 46:38a white man or a black man who. Got there.
- 46:39Oh, legit got there first, yeah. But they have they sled.
- 46:43They've got the sled at the club.
- 46:44Wow. So Josh Gates got to go see and
- 46:46touch the sled. To go, oh, that lucky, that's
- 46:50incredible. Women were first formally
- 46:52admitted as members to the Explorers Club in 1981.
- 46:57Not until 1981. Well, you know, let's be honest,
- 47:01they probably weren't even allowed to explore.
- 47:02So, you know, look, Amelia Earhart probably could have been
- 47:08in that club, but she would have survived.
- 47:11Damn it. She.
- 47:13Might be in it, I don't know you.
- 47:14Some people are added later, you know.
- 47:18Or. Whatever.
- 47:18Yeah. So some iconic members would be
- 47:20Theodore Roosevelt, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.
- 47:24Of course. Let's see Sir Edmund Hillary and
- 47:28Tenzing Norgay who are the first to summit, the first to the
- 47:31summit of Mount Everest. OK, Rolled Amundsen led the
- 47:38first expedition to the South Pole.
- 47:40So, you know, you get the idea. OK, OK.
- 47:42All right. All right.
- 47:43Gotcha, Gotcha. But yeah, Jane Goodall's in it.
- 47:47And she should be good for her. That's incredible.
- 47:51That's an incredible club. It's, it's very, it's quite
- 47:54cool. Now, I don't know if you can go
- 47:55visit, I don't know if you can go visit it or not, but there is
- 47:58a there is a place. In in it's in New York.
- 48:00Wow, that you can. Well, I'll tell you what I I
- 48:04someday. Now I've been to where did I go?
- 48:09Where did we go? And we saw that we're where did
- 48:11it show you? This is the first.
- 48:13On the 1st floor. Who put those tusks there?
- 48:18Probably. Somebody from 19-O.
- 48:20Four massive tusks. Yes, because it's probably these
- 48:23fucking rhinos. Rhinos that probably don't exist
- 48:26anymore. Oh my.
- 48:27God, I'm a little offended by this.
- 48:29There's like a little thing on the street.
- 48:30It's a, it's an actual place. They have a building.
- 48:32And yes, damn. You seem so surprised.
- 48:36I'm not happy about the tusks, but you know, what are you going
- 48:38to do? Where were we, Abby?
- 48:41Where we went and did we went And this cool museum about
- 48:44space. I know you were with me.
- 48:46I know we, we were there. Where were we?
- 48:49It was very, very cool. Were we in Chicago?
- 48:54I don't remember, but anyway, I remember walking through this
- 48:56museum. We were, we were down in Florida
- 48:58when you were little and we could see Cape Canaveral 'cause
- 49:00we were at Cocoa Beach, 'cause I was, to be clear, see the
- 49:04shuttle right over on the launchpad to see the launchpad.
- 49:08To be clear for the listeners, I was also obsessed with space.
- 49:11When I was younger, yes, Abby, Abby and I share the same the
- 49:15the obsessions of even just to learn new things, you know,
- 49:20we're all about it. If we're on vacation, like, give
- 49:22me a museum, you know, or a cool historical site, like let me
- 49:27learn something while, you know, I don't know.
- 49:29I don't know why I find that cool, But nobody wanted to go
- 49:32over and see Cape Canaveral. They just wanted to hang on the
- 49:35beach. And I'm like, it's right there.
- 49:38I. Can't see it.
- 49:40So someday I someday I want to get back there.
- 49:42But I did get to Alabama. There is the Greater Saint Louis
- 49:47Air and Space Museum. Yeah.
- 49:49Did we go there? I'm sure I've been there.
- 49:51I know I have been there. I wasn't, just wondering if that
- 49:53might have been it. And maybe it was, I don't know,
- 49:55I can't remember. But in Alabama, they have, I
- 49:58don't know if they still do Space Camp, but they, you know,
- 50:01they have the whole space camp and kids could go whatever.
- 50:04But if you, I had a friend in college who they do still do
- 50:08space Camp. Do they?
- 50:08OK? Who?
- 50:09Who? His sister lived near Space
- 50:13Camp. OK.
- 50:14And he lived in southern Tennessee.
- 50:15And so, oh, man, it was just like right on the border, I
- 50:17guess. And so we went over there to
- 50:19visit his sister. And then he's like, you want to
- 50:21go to Space camp? And I'm like, yes, please.
- 50:24And so we went to space camp for the day.
- 50:25Oh my goodness. And we got to go tour
- 50:27everything. And then you can go in the
- 50:30rocket simulator. You get strapped in like you're
- 50:34going to go up in space and they do the little simulation and it
- 50:38feels like you're being launched.
- 50:41You get you get to feel, you know what it feels like to be
- 50:43launched in space. I did not get sick.
- 50:46I did good. It was fine.
- 50:48It was incredible. I thought it was amazing.
- 50:51And so, yeah, I, I was like, I didn't even know if Space Camp
- 50:54is still even being operated, but it is.
- 50:56So that's cool. It is to go to Space Camp.
- 51:00If your age is 9 to 11, it is approximately $1800 to go now.
- 51:07I think you have to go for like a week or something.
- 51:08I thought that would it would be more than that.
- 51:10So if you're ages 12 to 14, it's $1900 OK, and they're age 100.
- 51:15If you're a little bit older, OK space, there is Advanced Space
- 51:18Academy, which is fit for ages 15 to 18.
- 51:22That's about two grand. And then there is Space Academy
- 51:25for educators, so like teachers, and that's about 1200.
- 51:27Oh my God. And then there is there is the
- 51:31Adult Advanced Space Academy which is another 2 grand.
- 51:36I could do that. You could go it's a week long
- 51:38adventure with hands on interactive space missions or
- 51:40you can and other. Activities.
- 51:42How? What's Is there an age limit?
- 51:44It says adult. Just adult.
- 51:46Doesn't matter how old I am, there is the.
- 51:48Adult Space Academy, which is $800, three days, two nights.
- 51:54If you always wanted to be an astronaut but we're too old for
- 51:56Space Camp, we have a camp for you.
- 51:58Adult Space Camp is an adventurous weekend experience,
- 52:01allowing campers to assume roles in hands on interactive space
- 52:03missions and, you know, other things.
- 52:05Holy shit, I'm gonna. Do it.
- 52:07There is also Family Space Camp, which is $800 a person.
- 52:11You can take the whole. Family.
- 52:13You can take the whole family look.
- 52:14You know what? Your dad and I, your dad, your
- 52:16dad asked me where I want to go for our anniversary this year.
- 52:19We're going to. Fucking space camp I'm.
- 52:22I'm going to see if he. Wants to go 800 bucks?
- 52:24Hell yeah. Parents, grandparents, aunts and
- 52:26uncles are all invited to bring your future astronaut, engineer
- 52:29or scientist export everything space Camp has.
- 52:31Can you imagine if I asked if he wants to go to space camp for an
- 52:33he'd be like what the fuck is wrong with you?
- 52:35Well, let me let me pull up the Adult Space Academy 'cause
- 52:38that's the $800 one. I.
- 52:39Assume Adult Space Academy Heck. Yeah, you calendar you can book.
- 52:43Oh my God, you can. Get there as early as as May
- 52:4715th. It's all they got
- 52:48availabilities. But I had to bring Abby along
- 52:50for her anniversary because. You can get $800.00 for the
- 52:54space Camp. I'll float you.
- 52:56I want to. Go.
- 52:58Oh my God. This is why we need a sponsor,
- 53:01so somebody can send us. Our sponsor can send us to Space
- 53:04Camp. It's only 800 bucks a person.
- 53:07That's not bad. Include your meals.
- 53:10God I hope so, you know what I mean.
- 53:12That's a lot. 3 day on site. Overnight accommodations for
- 53:17Friday and Saturday nights of camp.
- 53:18All meals beginning with dinner Friday evening through
- 53:21breakfast. Sunday morning activities.
- 53:23Train like an astronaut on the Multi Access trainer.
- 53:26Construct and launch your own model rocket.
- 53:28Learn team building exercises in our low elements.
- 53:31Ropes course. Oh that might be a deal breaker.
- 53:38Test your. Test your engineering skills and
- 53:41designing A protective heat shield.
- 53:43Participating. We're burning up.
- 53:44Participate in a simulated space mission.
- 53:47Yeah, that's incredible. Now the rope course, that might
- 53:51be a deal breaker. That's a little.
- 53:52Tough I don't know if I can do. It that's a.
- 53:54Little tough I know for a fact. I know for a fact I can't do it.
- 53:57That's incredible, you guys. That's absolutely incredible.
- 54:01Yep. Well, I was there for a day.
- 54:04I got to go for a day and tour a little facilities and do the
- 54:10little simulator and it was, it was really, really cool.
- 54:14I'm so happy they're still operating.
- 54:15That's very. Cool, there are there is a
- 54:16museum with operating hours so. There is a museum, you can go
- 54:20through it. It's it's cool.
- 54:21That's you're ever in. I think it's near Huntsville,
- 54:24AL. Do you ever Is it Huntsville?
- 54:29Yes, Huntville. Yeah, Huntsville.
- 54:30If you ever, ever in the area, go check out the space camp.
- 54:34It is cool, yes, but but I, you know, I know a lot of people,
- 54:38not a lot of people. Some people poo poo space
- 54:40exploration as far as it's a lot of money.
- 54:44Oh yeah. I mean, it's a lot of money.
- 54:46Rocket fuel. That ain't cheap.
- 54:47My God, you think gas is cheap? Expensive.
- 54:49Now for your car, imagine what you'd have to pay if you needed
- 54:51rocket fuel. It's expensive, it is, and a lot
- 54:55of people. And it's dangerous.
- 54:56It is dangerous, it is. Not just not just the launches,
- 54:59but even like the simulated flights and the practice things
- 55:01have people have died in those people have died now not not
- 55:04nearly as many in modern in modern times because they are
- 55:08able to say do unmanned test flights now and that's true it's
- 55:11way it's much easier to do an unmanned test flight whereas
- 55:14back in the day, yeah, you know, because.
- 55:16Because I know, yeah, I know they've done a lot of test
- 55:20flights. I mean like the 60's, the 50s
- 55:22and the 60s they were doing trying to send a guy to the
- 55:24fucking moon. Yeah, they're not doing
- 55:26unmanned. Flights and we've learned a lot
- 55:28since then too as well 100% your experience as your best teacher
- 55:31and the more you learn about what works and what doesn't
- 55:33work, you know obviously you can you think they were worried
- 55:35about hot sauce up on the first Space Flight you know they're
- 55:39like. Eat your bland food and and quit
- 55:41your bitches. Just be happy you get home a
- 55:42lot. Guess what?
- 55:43You're in space in the 60s. You're.
- 55:46Literally. You're literally in a washing
- 55:48machine. What is the what's the line that
- 55:51Jim Hubble in the Apollo 13, his mother says if they can send a
- 55:56washing machine to space, my Jimmy can fly it because the the
- 56:01little granddaughter's, she's scared that he's not going to
- 56:04get home. And it's it's kind of a cool,
- 56:06cool line. But anyway, yeah, you're
- 56:09literally up there almost like in a tin can.
- 56:11You know, it's like you're, you're happy if you get home
- 56:13alive. Yeah.
- 56:14You know, so they've learned a lot.
- 56:16Well, in in 1969, yes, you are very just happy to kind of make
- 56:20it back. Exactly.
- 56:21And so the fact that people were willing and lining up to do it
- 56:24is, is incredible. We put a man on the moon before
- 56:27we had a floppy disk. Just to be clear, legit legit.
- 56:30Yeah, before we had mobile phones, MRI machines, personal
- 56:33computers and the Internet. All before all of that.
- 56:36You're right. Yeah, I looked up things that
- 56:38were. Gonna absolutely, you know, so,
- 56:40you know, I get, I get it because you think about where we
- 56:45need to spend money to help people, you know, have food in
- 56:51the home and, you know, education and yeah, those are
- 56:53those are incredibly important things.
- 56:56And so, you know, on one hand, it's like, I am conflicted about
- 56:59it a little bit because it's like, OK, that money probably
- 57:02could be used to help a lot of people.
- 57:06But also I know for a fact that it won't be.
- 57:10Well, so now here's my and I'm not going to, I'm not going to
- 57:12get political on this and and I don't want to either.
- 57:15No. But my thing is, if you look at
- 57:18our budget for the cut for the nation, for our nation and the
- 57:23percent of the budget that's going to say NASA for space
- 57:25exploration versus the percent that is going to let's say like
- 57:29the military, military for developing weapons and things
- 57:32like that. It's a lit it is what's the word
- 57:37extremely disproportionate for how much people say hate on NASA
- 57:42correct. I'm not saying it's a small
- 57:43amount and I'm not disagreeing that like that money could
- 57:45probably. Could be used to be helping.
- 57:47People, but I would say that that it's like pointing the
- 57:50finger at one person for for accidentally dropping a piece of
- 57:53trash in the ground and not like pointing a finger at an oil
- 57:56company for dumping, you know, in the ocean for destroying you
- 57:59know what I mean? Like that's where it.
- 58:02You know, I totally agree. With you, it's very it's I don't
- 58:05know for me, I'm not disagreeing, but I.
- 58:07I think and I, I'm the same way because I've heard people who
- 58:10say that and then I'm thinking in my, in my mind, though, I
- 58:12also know that they, it is for, I mean, they're doing a ton of
- 58:19experimentation and they're learning so many things.
- 58:21Well, and also satellites. For your phone, you want better
- 58:24service launching satellites well, in your TV now too.
- 58:28I understand everything's strange 100%, you know, it's
- 58:31like. You got dish.
- 58:33Hell, you don't even need a dish anymore.
- 58:34No I know, but if you have a Dish Network.
- 58:36Exactly. So it's like it's, and it's not
- 58:39just that they do a lot of medical too.
- 58:41There's a lot of things. There's a.
- 58:42Lot of stuff that we don't even know about, for one, but they've
- 58:45learned a lot of things and they've been able to use it and
- 58:48apply it here as well. And then I also think about like
- 58:51our plane, it's kind of bugged, you know?
- 58:54And it's like, because they're like, well, why do you want to
- 58:56build a space station on the moon?
- 58:58Well, because we want the Lunar Chronicles to to happen for one.
- 59:01Oh my God. Let me tell you something.
- 59:02No Focus series. So we don't want that to happen.
- 59:04Are you? Kidding.
- 59:04No, we don't. We don't want that to happen.
- 59:06We don't. Realize what you said.
- 59:07Don't. Know what happened?
- 59:08It's a joke. It's a joke.
- 59:10Well, OK, also they did they've done a lot with developing solar
- 59:15panel like technology, correct, because absolutely you said rock
- 59:18fuels found it expensive when you're up there, the more the
- 59:20more we can do with solar powered, you know, devices find
- 59:24a way. You know, to somehow come up
- 59:27with things in order to save our asses down here too.
- 59:29I'm like, I'm all for it. I agree.
- 59:31For one, because we got to find a way because we have messed up
- 59:34our environment. We have messed up this planet
- 59:36big time. Well, in some ways.
- 59:37Looking at like we're studying our atmosphere, we're studying
- 59:40these things and we need to, we do need to know these things
- 59:42because we're fucking up our. Atmosphere, because who knows if
- 59:46we can't even repair the damage that's been done.
- 59:48So it's like, right. I don't know, To me, it's like
- 59:50I'm all about trying to learn and expand and explore and you
- 59:56know, it, to me, I it's like, I know it's a lot of money, but
- 1:00:00it's, at least to me being used for a positive thing, you know?
- 1:00:05Yeah, I don't know. That's that's what we'd look at.
- 1:00:07To be clear listeners, if you are a person that believes that
- 1:00:12the moon landing was fake. Don't.
- 1:00:16Bring it up, please don't to me. Don't bring it up to me either
- 1:00:19because. I will die on this hill that it
- 1:00:23genuinely is easier for them to send a man to the moon than it
- 1:00:29would have been for them to fake that in 1969, in 1969, actually,
- 1:00:34when we, when we don't have, when we don't have digital
- 1:00:37cameras, when we don't have like the special effects technology
- 1:00:42that we have today. Dudes from the 60s with special
- 1:00:45effects? No way.
- 1:00:46Right. There's not like, oh, we're
- 1:00:48like, we're slowing it. It's like, listen, it, I, I
- 1:00:52cannot stress this enough that the government in the in the 60s
- 1:00:57did not give a flying fuck if these people lived or died.
- 1:01:01They wanted to be the first ones to put a man on the moon.
- 1:01:04That was the goal. We have to beat the Russians.
- 1:01:06We have to beat 100%. Yeah, they like they wanted a
- 1:01:10man on the moon, full stop. They would never have faked it
- 1:01:14because if if they had, it would have gotten out because there
- 1:01:19were spies everywhere. Oh.
- 1:01:21Yeah, Oh. Yeah, and as soon as it got out
- 1:01:23that we faked the moon landing, it would have been it.
- 1:01:26That's true. Been it.
- 1:01:27That's true. Also listen, I fully support
- 1:01:31Buzz Aldrin punching a man in the face for accusing him of
- 1:01:33faking the moon landing. 100% good for you Buzz Aldrin.
- 1:01:37Yep, good for you. But who was in what, in his 70s
- 1:01:39when he punched his face? He's probably probably honestly
- 1:01:45his 80s. If I'm if I'm being honest, you
- 1:01:47know that I'm thinking about it. He had it and at that point.
- 1:01:49I don't care. I'm gonna punch you because how
- 1:01:51many times I'm. Fucking yeah, I've been up on
- 1:01:53the fucking moon. Fuck you.
- 1:01:55Like, listen, absolutely. The moon landing is real.
- 1:02:00The Egyptians built the pyramids.
- 1:02:01It's true. It's true.
- 1:02:03Yes, there are ways dinosaurs are real.
- 1:02:05Yes, it's true. The earth is round.
- 1:02:09The earth is round, Oh my God. And not just a, not a.
- 1:02:12Disk it's a. Sphere.
- 1:02:14It's a sphere. Gravity is real.
- 1:02:17We orbit the sun. We revolve on our axis.
- 1:02:21I don't know. I don't know.
- 1:02:24What more we need if you don't think.
- 1:02:27Warming is real as well, like. There is a change, there is a
- 1:02:31hole in our ozone. So I know, yeah, it's happened.
- 1:02:35El Nino is happening this summer.
- 1:02:37We're all going to burn to death.
- 1:02:38Just in case you're wondering, I.
- 1:02:40Don't even know what that is, and I don't want to know.
- 1:02:41You know what, Liv? Didn't know what El Nino was
- 1:02:44either. It's a weather I have, I have
- 1:02:45heard about. It's a weather you brought
- 1:02:46people. Yeah.
- 1:02:47El Nino and La Nina come, come. Patterns happen every so often.
- 1:02:50And El Nino is coming this summer and it's good.
- 1:02:52Makes things even hotter. To a theater near you.
- 1:02:53So, you know, you know how much I love that.
- 1:02:55But well, let's talk about Artemis a little bit.
- 1:02:57Artemis 2. Yeah, talk to me.
- 1:02:59Artemis 2 just took a trip around the moon.
- 1:03:04I think just it's crazy exciting to me, Crazy exciting.
- 1:03:08And so they let me see, let me find it.
- 1:03:11They lift it off on Let's Find It.
- 1:03:16They blast off from Florida on April first.
- 1:03:19OK, so that's when they took off at 6:35 PM anyway.
- 1:03:23And so they spend the day. Eastern Time.
- 1:03:27I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding.
- 1:03:28It doesn't matter. It is Eastern Time.
- 1:03:30OK, so they then, so they spend the Earth, spend the day
- 1:03:36orbiting the Earth, and then they make the trek out towards
- 1:03:43the moon and they send back this incredible image of the Earth.
- 1:03:48Which and let me. Take a picture that took let.
- 1:03:49Me tell you something, if you I am.
- 1:03:52I'm terrible at physics, OK? I took physics when I was a
- 1:03:55senior in high school and I hated it.
- 1:03:57I took it too. Breezed, and I truly mean
- 1:04:01breezed through algebra, geometry, trigonometry.
- 1:04:05You had a calculus and you had a head for math.
- 1:04:07I could not fucking get it. And I never understood why I
- 1:04:11couldn't get it because it seemed more simple and it's very
- 1:04:14math based, right? It would love me to write me.
- 1:04:17I loved math and I felt like this should be not again, not
- 1:04:21simple, but like it's very cut and dry.
- 1:04:23It's like this. Is why?
- 1:04:24Why wouldn't you have an easy time with that too?
- 1:04:26That one that. You did.
- 1:04:27I could not. You know, Sam hated it too.
- 1:04:29I hated it. And I will.
- 1:04:31And I look, you know chemistry. You know chemistry.
- 1:04:33I'll tell you why. Why you didn't have a good
- 1:04:36teacher? That's true.
- 1:04:38I did not breeze through those math classes.
- 1:04:40Math was always very hard for me.
- 1:04:42Yeah, OK. And I wanted to take physics and
- 1:04:45I had to go to the teacher and get permission because I had not
- 1:04:49taken trig yet. I was going to take it the same
- 1:04:52time and they wanted you to have that first, but I didn't have
- 1:04:55enough time to get it. It was my senior year, sure,
- 1:04:57because I was, in my opinion, behind in math.
- 1:05:00That was again, teacher's fault from Six Radio anyway.
- 1:05:03Plus I don't have the A mine for math like you guys do.
- 1:05:06And thankfully you guys got your dad's brains.
- 1:05:09I think you got both. You guys are you guys.
- 1:05:11Are really lucky because mine is more one's left, one's right.
- 1:05:14I forget which one's which. Analytic, because I have the
- 1:05:16more creative. Creative.
- 1:05:18I'm really good at English and English reading, writing and
- 1:05:22reading and that side. So teaching kind of worked for
- 1:05:25me. But anyway, I had to go to her.
- 1:05:28Her name, it was a nun. Her name was Sister Genevieve.
- 1:05:30And I love her Genevieve. I loved her.
- 1:05:33She was an amazing teacher. Yeah.
- 1:05:36And she says, you know what? If you want to do this, I will
- 1:05:39help you. This is a this is what a teacher
- 1:05:41should do, right? If you're not teaching because
- 1:05:43you want your kids to succeed, then get the fuck out of the
- 1:05:45classroom. That, that.
- 1:05:46I mean, I will die on that help. And she helped me.
- 1:05:49She helped me through it. And she made it incredibly
- 1:05:53fascinating. And so I loved it.
- 1:05:56And boy, was it hard. Oh, yeah.
- 1:05:57I mean, it was hard for me, but I could go to her anytime.
- 1:06:00And my brothers were very good at math.
- 1:06:03And so they helped me. Yeah.
- 1:06:04And so I was really lucky, had a great support system.
- 1:06:07And I, I loved it. But I knew that it was not
- 1:06:09something I was going to be able to continue to do safe
- 1:06:12throughout. Like my brother is an engineer.
- 1:06:14I would love to have his brain and be able to do the things
- 1:06:17that he does. And he and he could understand
- 1:06:19it and, and do the math and whatever.
- 1:06:21And so he did, but I could not. I mean, I did it.
- 1:06:23Glad I did it. I loved it.
- 1:06:25I thought it was incredibly fascinating.
- 1:06:26But wow, it is tough to wrap your mind around it.
- 1:06:29Right, I don't know what the deal is, but I I'm not good, I
- 1:06:32will. It's still like bothers me and I
- 1:06:35don't understand it. Gotcha.
- 1:06:37But the point is, is that when you were talking about like the
- 1:06:39reason that they don't just like, because I've heard a lot
- 1:06:42of people like, well, wouldn't it just be faster and use less
- 1:06:45fuel if they just kept going to the moon?
- 1:06:47And the answer is no, it would use more fuel because they don't
- 1:06:50use fuel really while they're orbiting.
- 1:06:51So they orbit the Earth. Yeah, because they're and then
- 1:06:53they orbit, but then they use it as like a slingshot.
- 1:06:55So they use their momentum of coming around in the moon and
- 1:06:58then they literally slingshot. Yes, they slingshot themselves
- 1:07:01around the Earth to the moon. And then they did the same thing
- 1:07:03around the moon coming and then slingshot themselves.
- 1:07:05That incredible. Incredible.
- 1:07:07Yeah. And somebody figured that shit
- 1:07:08out. And they figured out how to get
- 1:07:10us in position like what the perfect day was so that we would
- 1:07:13they would be able. To orbit us, you're going to go
- 1:07:15on the perfect day. And that's the thing.
- 1:07:17Because they talk about how when they're coming back, if you
- 1:07:20don't come back in at the right angle, the right time, whatever
- 1:07:24it is, then you can skip off the atmosphere and shoot back out
- 1:07:29into space, and then you're screwed.
- 1:07:31Like what? That blows my mind.
- 1:07:36Well, you think? So they got to have it figured
- 1:07:37out exactly when they can come back in too.
- 1:07:41Isn't that amazing? Yeah, that's amazing.
- 1:07:43But this picture of Earth that they took, I know that's that's
- 1:07:47wow, that's wow. I think it's so cool.
- 1:07:50It is so cool. So, so now, so now they fly out
- 1:07:54to the moon clearly, and they get to go around the backside of
- 1:07:58the moon that we don't see, I guess because it looks like,
- 1:08:00doesn't the moon orbit? I said the same thing to you,
- 1:08:02doesn't? It orbits.
- 1:08:03I mean, it doesn't revolve. Revolve or rotate.
- 1:08:06Yeah, it doesn't. Does it not?
- 1:08:07I guess not. We it says this.
- 1:08:09They went around and saw the backside the minute nobody gets
- 1:08:11to see. OK, I'm going to do a little
- 1:08:12while. You tell me.
- 1:08:13We only see one face of it and then the commander, his last
- 1:08:18name is Wiseman lost his wife to cancer.
- 1:08:21I know but and her name was Carol CAROLL and they named a
- 1:08:27moon crater after his wife. So they they named here and it's
- 1:08:34this crater. You can see the name Carol there
- 1:08:38and so they show a picture of them him hugging him in space
- 1:08:41cuz he's like we named this crater after you're.
- 1:08:45He lost his wife. I'm gonna cry to the cancer.
- 1:08:47I know. I'm like, Oh my God, that's so
- 1:08:49beautiful. Also, I know why we've only seen
- 1:08:52one side of the moon. OK, why?
- 1:08:53OK so it's it's tidally locked to Earth like yes the tides yes.
- 1:09:01So basically rotates on its axis at the same, it rotates on its
- 1:09:08axis in the exact same amount of time as it takes to orbit the
- 1:09:11Earth. So it's like as it's spinning,
- 1:09:14right? Or as it's spinning, it's also
- 1:09:16going around the earth. So it's spinning, but it's.
- 1:09:19Logged so that's why that's why. OK, well the crew of the Artemis
- 1:09:242 did make the trip around the moon and set a new record for
- 1:09:28the farthest flight into space. Insanity.
- 1:09:32Insane, that is. Incredible.
- 1:09:36So they reached this, the apex on Monday, April 6th and they
- 1:09:40went dark for 40 minutes while they were on that far side of
- 1:09:44the moon because they so they have no communication with Earth
- 1:09:49while they're over there. And so then they, let's see,
- 1:09:54they traveled back into, you know, obviously then they come
- 1:09:59back around and then we can have contact with them again.
- 1:10:02So they, the new record is 252,756 miles from Earth, which
- 1:10:09surpassed Apollo 13's record from 1970 by more than 4000
- 1:10:15miles, according to NASA. Wow so Apollo 13 has set the
- 1:10:21they because they went around and slingshot it back to get
- 1:10:24them home too, but they went further out Wow that's
- 1:10:27incredible so now they sent some photos of the eclipse from the
- 1:10:33far side. That's insane.
- 1:10:36Oh my God I love it. That's so wild.
- 1:10:40The. It's crazy.
- 1:10:44It's crazy to to think about. So then they came home and they
- 1:10:47splashed down. They hit the discernible
- 1:10:50atmosphere at 75 miles above the Pacific Ocean at a blistering
- 1:10:54speed of 24,000 mph that if at that speed you could get from
- 1:11:01Los Angeles to New York in 6 minutes.
- 1:11:03That's so crazy. Can you imagine going that fast?
- 1:11:06No, that's crazy. So the heat shield held it was
- 1:11:10great. It's 16.5 feet wide and it
- 1:11:13reached about 5000°F. Wow.
- 1:11:17It's about half as hot as the visible surface of the sun.
- 1:11:21So and for about 6 minutes they're they also have a
- 1:11:24blackout again for re entry. Yeah, that you can't speak to
- 1:11:28them. And then they come in and they
- 1:11:30splash down off the coast of San Diego, CA.
- 1:11:33What a great, what a great place to land.
- 1:11:35What day did they come back? It doesn't say 2 days ago it was
- 1:11:40on was on Friday. I thought it was Friday so it
- 1:11:46was the first. Fly by in over 50 years.
- 1:11:48That's so cool. Yep, that's so cool.
- 1:11:52So I'm very happy that they all got home safe.
- 1:11:57Me too. And they had an amazing trip.
- 1:11:58What a what a story to tell, right?
- 1:12:02What a vacation. That's way better vacation.
- 1:12:05That's way better than me. Actually.
- 1:12:06That was work for them, I guess. But what a work trip.
- 1:12:09That's way better than my vacation story of running down
- 1:12:12the hall with my hot burrito it. Seemed like it also was more of.
- 1:12:18A successful I'm a little embarrassed now.
- 1:12:21My trip wasn't quite as cool. Awkward.
- 1:12:24I did see it twice, twice. Twice was so nice we had to see
- 1:12:28it twice. This is.
- 1:12:29The moon and then and then there's a little bit of the
- 1:12:31Earth, a little tip, just little tip of the Earth.
- 1:12:34Little tip of the earth. Wow, so how cool is that?
- 1:12:38AB? That is very seriously cool
- 1:12:40stuff. If you didn't get a chance, I'll
- 1:12:43post some pics. Oh wow, I'll post some pics that
- 1:12:46I could steal off the off of NASA's you actually, it's there.
- 1:12:49You can download these high res images.
- 1:12:51FYI, they just looked out there for people to see.
- 1:12:53Well, we're going to do that and we'll post them so you can see
- 1:12:56what we're seeing because it's some cool stuff.
- 1:12:58Yep. Oh my gosh, we talked so much
- 1:13:01about spaces. I know.
- 1:13:05That's OK. That's cool stuff.
- 1:13:06It's a cool topic. It is.
- 1:13:07And we'll hold back and we'll save the topic for next time.
- 1:13:10All right? Well, I don't know about you,
- 1:13:11but after this I'm gonna need some serious beef.
- 1:13:14And and some serious. Face sauce, sweet bye bye.
