- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, thanks for joining me for today's episode.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: One of my most treasured possessions is a tattered notebook of poems that my grandmother Louise wrote back in the 1970s.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Now, she died when I was just three years old, so I don't have any direct memories of her.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: But every time I open that notebook, which is now nearly 50 years old, I feel like it's the closest that I can get to her.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: And I'll always be grateful that she took the time to put down her thoughts and emotions in that notebook filled with poetry.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: And that notebook is something I can enjoy for the rest of my life and also something I can pass down to my son.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: You know, one of the big reasons that I believe in the power of writing is because it's the only way to ensure that your ideas and your story are passed on to future generations.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, let's face it, a hundred years from now, you and I are going to be gone.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: But what will we leave behind?
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: And how will those who come after us know what we thought about, what was important to us, and how we lived?
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Will Facebook, LinkedIn, or Threads or any social media apps to be around in a hundred years?
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Will our podcast episodes like this one that you're listening to right now, are they going to be accessible in a hundred years?
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Well, I seriously doubt it because technology is always changing.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: And that's why I'm such a big fan of books, particularly print books.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: I believe that books are the only way to ensure that your legacy and values get preserved long after you're gone.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: It's also the main reason why I wrote the book 18 Words to Live By, a father's wisdom on what matters most for my son, back a few years ago when he turned 18.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: I wanted to do a book that would not only impact him as a young adult, but also as a man all throughout his life.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: And the book, 18 Words to Live By, is a short, punchy read full of inspiration and stories, but it's also a great gift for fathers, sons, and anybody who wants to live a more successful life.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: You can grab the book at the link in the show notes.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: And if you grab the book, I hope that it inspires you to write down your own set of values that you can pass on to the next generation.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: That's it for today, and I'll see you next time.
