- 0:17Speaker 1: N not. It's a question that must s.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that during the middle of the day, when it's
- 2:24Speaker 2: hot and the sun's out, they're kind of just seeking shade.
- 2:27Speaker 2: But during early morning and during the late afternoon they
- 2:30Speaker 2: kind of en mass come out and just are marching
- 2:33Speaker 2: basically slowly across the landscapes, over the roads, through gardens
- 2:37Speaker 2: all the way down to the coast. So some people
- 3:01Speaker 2: might think they're a nuisance, but most of us think
- 3:03Speaker 2: they are a bit of a privilege to experience. They're indiscriminate,
- 3:07Speaker 2: so whatever they need to go over to get to
- 3:09Speaker 2: the shore, they will go over it. So if you
- 3:11Speaker 2: leave your front door open, you're going to come home
- 3:14Speaker 2: and have a whole bunch of red crabs in your
- 3:15Speaker 2: living room. So we do have to think about the
- 3:18Speaker 2: way we kind of live during that time. Sometimes some people,
- 3:22Speaker 2: if they need to drive their car out of the
- 3:24Speaker 2: driveway in the morning, they've got to rake them themselves
- 3:27Speaker 2: out or they're not going to be able to leave
- 3:28Speaker 2: the house without injuring crabs. So yes, they do change
- 3:32Speaker 2: the way we live during this time. We just have
- 3:34Speaker 2: to be very mindful of that. We really value the
- 4:02Speaker 2: crabs and it's one of the privileges of living on
- 4:06Speaker 2: the island is that when it's crab season, we all
- 4:08Speaker 2: do our best to try and reduce impacts to crabs
- 4:10Speaker 2: on the road. So the park staff who I work for,
- 4:14Speaker 2: we actually spend a lot of our time early in
- 4:17Speaker 2: the morning and late in the afternoon after work raking
- 4:20Speaker 2: the busiest roads to allow cars to go through so
- 4:22Speaker 2: that we don't impact crabs too much. And also lots
- 4:26Speaker 2: of community members and local businesses did the same, which
- 4:28Speaker 2: is fantastic. I'll make us a question when their little
- 4:42Speaker 2: baby's only about half the size of your fingernail. We
- 4:44Speaker 2: can't rake them because you crush them, so instead we
- 4:48Speaker 2: use leaf blowers. So in about a month after the
- 4:51Speaker 2: spawning occurs, we're down on the coast looking pretty hilarious,
- 4:55Speaker 2: actually wearing these backpack leaf blowers and blowing all these
- 4:58Speaker 2: tiny little crabs off the road to try and reduce
- 5:00Speaker 2: an impact of cars.
- 5:18Speaker 1: You coming in with a brush. It understands here, but
- 5:52Speaker 1: as you can see, there's no stopping these little red
- 5:56Speaker 1: crabs everywhere. They are everywhere. I'm not jagging about the
- 6:00Speaker 1: uh around here. Just don't step in the little guys.
- 6:03Speaker 1: But they are everywhere.
- 6:06Speaker 2: He loned a guy.
- 6:08Speaker 1: M h m. It is something different cos
