- 0:00Welcome to the One Small Change. I am so glad that you decided
- 0:04to spend some time with me again this week, and I am thrilled
- 0:07to be with you on this journey of exploration and
- 0:11transformation. I'm your host, Yvonne McCoy, and I bring
- 0:14almost 30 years of entrepreneurial experience and
- 0:18passion for discovering growth through the power of
- 0:21seemingly one Small change. And this week,
- 0:25and you know how I. You know how I love pronouncing people's names, right?
- 0:29This week, we are talking with the amazing
- 0:33Sivan Hache. So because
- 0:36so many of us get this wrong, he is graciously letting us call
- 0:40him Sly. All my, all my friends call me Sly. Just, that's,
- 0:44that's my nickname. So. So
- 0:47I am really glad that you're here. And we were joking that, that we
- 0:51both had crazy days, but that just means that our adrenaline is going
- 0:55and we've got lots to share. So tell my audience, my
- 0:59audience about yourself and what was the change that
- 1:02changed your life and your business.
- 1:06So happy. Thanks for having me here, Yvonne. This is amazing.
- 1:10I love the name One Small Change. Because I was
- 1:13thinking, what's one, you know, for everybody? You listening? There's
- 1:17many different things. What's one little thing? And I was thinking about this.
- 1:21There's one question I asked myself when one day
- 1:25that changed everything. One little question
- 1:29changed me from a drugged, out of my mind,
- 1:33corporate atheist.
- 1:36I asked myself one question and I turned into a clean.
- 1:40No drugs, no alcohol, spiritual entrepreneur.
- 1:44Boom. In one second, I went from one day,
- 1:49drugs, alcohol, bad habits, cigarettes
- 1:52every day and junk food to the next day, no
- 1:56drugs, no alcohol, clean, clean diet, waking up
- 2:00at six in the morning, Kundalini, breathing exercises, and having spiritual
- 2:03revelation. And when I asked myself that small question,
- 2:09a lightning bolt hit me on top of the head like a flash
- 2:13of lightning turning. Bam. And at that time, I did not
- 2:17believe in God. So it's not like I was praying or anything. It's
- 2:21just a simple question. I don't know if you've ever been in that situation.
- 2:25You listening to this, where you look around
- 2:28and you say, wait a minute. I've done
- 2:32everything they told me I should do to be happy. I
- 2:36mean, I've checked all the boxes. Okay, that ain't it.
- 2:40Okay. I've done everything. I've been
- 2:43everywhere. I've achieved every goal I set out to do.
- 2:47I'm winning. This is it. Yet I was
- 2:51so miserable, I had to do drugs in the parking
- 2:54lot on the way out of that job just to
- 2:58wash it away from my soul. One night
- 3:02after supper, I Asked myself, man, I just kind of looked
- 3:06up a little bit and I thought,
- 3:10this can't be it. There has to be more
- 3:14to life than this. Yvonne that
- 3:17single thought, the realization of how big of
- 3:21a lie I've been, I had been lied to.
- 3:24And the automations of robots climbing the corporate
- 3:28ladder, whatever that was,
- 3:32snapped me out of it bad in one
- 3:35second. And it went from this to then,
- 3:40long story short, creating a new public speaking system
- 3:43that helps people get overstayed fright and we've created multiple six figure days
- 3:47from the stage. Well, first of all, I just want to tell you I am
- 3:51so glad you had that thought because otherwise you wouldn't have been here. But
- 3:54secondly, I think that happens to more of us than you think. It may
- 3:58not be those exact words, but I think there's something,
- 4:02you get to a certain point in your life and you go, there's got
- 4:06to be more. Wait a minute, I would, I was
- 4:09meant to be more. And you know what my specific question was?
- 4:13My specific question was, what do I want to be
- 4:17remembered for when I die?
- 4:21Because I felt like I wasn't living that life. And
- 4:25when I thought about that and I, you know, and now I've kind of refined
- 4:28that question to what's the energy that you want to be remembered
- 4:32for? Right. And that's what helped me to lose almost
- 4:36£200. What's
- 4:39the energy you want to be remembered for? What's the classic quote? People forget what
- 4:43you say, how you said it, whatever, but they won't forget how you made them
- 4:47feel, right? Yeah. So energetic
- 4:50was one of my words. I wanted, I had no energy at that point.
- 4:55So tell us, tell us once, once you had that
- 4:58lightning bolt, how did that change everything
- 5:02else? Well,
- 5:05I mean it's a cliche, but it
- 5:09literally changed everything from the diet
- 5:13to the sense of self, to what I think I
- 5:17am internally, to what I think I can do, to the behavior,
- 5:21to how I generate income, to, to what I do in life, to who
- 5:25I associate with, to how I dream, to how I think,
- 5:29to how I write, literally everything.
- 5:33So it
- 5:36led to us creating a company
- 5:40in the personal development market,
- 5:44meaning all the gurus, the healers, the
- 5:48shamans, the crystal ball reading ladies, the chakra people, the
- 5:51motivational guys, the filter water filter people want to help people
- 5:55and change the world. They would come to us and we had a, at the
- 5:58time, a huge marketing list for the time. And
- 6:02I was, since I had a marketing degree, I was writing all the marketing
- 6:06copy and all the, the messaging for these People. And it
- 6:10turns out when people are not trained in marketing, they always say the same thing.
- 6:13So people don't know what's unique about them. The unique selling
- 6:17proposition, how to position it to the marketplace, how to match
- 6:20the, their message to the market in a way that's congruent with them. So I
- 6:24would write their messaging for them. And this
- 6:28had to come up with messaging on the spot for everybody at
- 6:32once is the messaging algorithm that I've developed for the
- 6:36speaking system. And the first time we had a six figure day was back
- 6:40then. This was 2005. Six ish. And the first time
- 6:43someone. Because usually we would take what they would say I
- 6:47would make into a compelling message and send it by email. One of the,
- 6:51one of these people said, I want to make an event and
- 6:55I will sell an offer from the stage. So we worked on that together
- 6:59and this was the first time I realized, oh, wait a minute,
- 7:02if you put people in a room and you make notice
- 7:06with your face, a number of people in the room
- 7:10will buy your offer and you can make more than a hundred thousand dollars in
- 7:14a day. Sign me up for that.
- 7:17This was at the time, so this was a revelation to me where
- 7:21otherwise you would have to break your back
- 7:25over time. Like we've had people, we've, we've
- 7:29had a guy, this must have been like two years ago now. An
- 7:33engineer. Think of all the work it
- 7:36takes to become an engineer and then get
- 7:40the engineering degree, get a job,
- 7:45drive in traffic all day, go to a job, stressful,
- 7:50bad eating, stress all day, come back in
- 7:53traffic week after month after month for a year. This
- 7:57totality of his income. He made more money from this.
- 8:01Made more money from a 20 minute talk, Yvonne, than his whole
- 8:05previous year as an engineer. And he did it twice
- 8:08in three months from 20 minute talks. I, I did
- 8:12not know this before. Somebody had. I don't know, I don't know if. Did you
- 8:15learn that in school? They didn't teach me that. So the,
- 8:19it became clear to me that the skill
- 8:23of putting words, stories, messaging and
- 8:27angles and aligning it with the messenger so it fits with the market
- 8:32in live room and in live environments was a thing that
- 8:36could create financial freedom for the people who could do it. But I
- 8:39think the thing that, I think the thing that is so important
- 8:44is I want to kind of go back to,
- 8:48you know, we were lied to. Right? In the
- 8:52sense, in the sense that, you know, you, you get educated,
- 8:56you work a job, you know, you check all the boxes and stuff.
- 9:00That's not the kind of world that we're in anymore. The other
- 9:03thing that I think is so important is
- 9:07that in so many jobs you don't. You
- 9:11typically, you do what you can do, which
- 9:14are, you know, because once you, once you kind of make the decision that you're
- 9:18going to be an engineer and you've invested that time,
- 9:21you keep going down that path, it's very rare
- 9:25that you see somebody go, I'm an engineer and
- 9:29tomorrow I'm going to become a ballet dancer or something. I mean,
- 9:33do you know, it's kind of like you're kind of caught in that, that path.
- 9:37Sunk cost. Yeah. And, and you don't
- 9:41get to be who you are. You don't get to do the things that really
- 9:44light up your soul. Especially not in a 9 to
- 9:485. At least I never did. Well,
- 9:53you said it well, Ivan. That world does not exist anymore.
- 9:57Things are changing so fast now and changing
- 10:01faster. I took a note because you made me think of an article. I read
- 10:04this years back. Now it's even worse. Years
- 10:08ago there was an article here in the newspaper that said, okay,
- 10:12employers were complaining because here they are
- 10:17advertising a job for a six figure job,
- 10:21a six figure cushy corporate job.
- 10:25And one of the, the requirements is a degree in
- 10:30such and such thing, a four year degree. The problem
- 10:34was four years ago there were no degrees
- 10:38in such and such thing. The problem.
- 10:42So engineer, I know an engineer. You may think about this,
- 10:46a guy who graduated in 1975 as an engineer.
- 10:52So by the time he graduated, what he had learned was out of
- 10:55date. That's in 1975.
- 11:01My uncle, I believe is the last generation of
- 11:04people that could go to school, get a
- 11:08job, go up the ladder in one place, one institution,
- 11:12retirement and live a good life is 88 or
- 11:1689 right now. That's it. Anybody younger than
- 11:19this, there's no more working at one place, one job.
- 11:23It's not, it's not, it's not A thing doesn't exist. And you know what?
- 11:27One of the things that I say to people is even if you're not an
- 11:30entrepreneur, your value
- 11:33is you. And you need to get as much, you know,
- 11:37whatever that corporation is offering that's going to improve,
- 11:40you know what you can do that's portable, that you can take
- 11:44with you, you need to do. Because you're not going to be at that job
- 11:48for 30 years. You know, you're going to have. And, and you're,
- 11:51and I think that's the other thing about,
- 11:55it's really important. I Mean, one of the things that. One of the things that
- 11:58changed me incredibly was a course
- 12:02that I took on positive thinking. And, and, and
- 12:06the part that really hit me hard was
- 12:09the I. And this is distilling it down to, like, idiot
- 12:13language. Not, not the great stuff that was taught in the course.
- 12:17But we tend to be stuck in a rut, you know, because of our habits
- 12:21and our beliefs and stuff like that. And so you go to, you, you
- 12:25default to the same thing all the time. And
- 12:28he said, if you can stop yourself, when
- 12:32you're getting ready to make a decision, you come on to something new and say
- 12:35to yourself, am I being judgmental or am
- 12:39I being curious?
- 12:44And I was like, oh, my God,
- 12:48so many times I was being judgmental. Like, we're not supposed to do it that
- 12:51way. Why would they? You know, when I
- 12:54shifted that to can I be curious first,
- 12:59wow, it just changed everything. I mean, we
- 13:03had a, we had somebody who came into a meeting, and all of us were
- 13:06standing there like, this guy is an idiot. What? Why is he even here?
- 13:10Right? And afterwards, I thought about that, and I was
- 13:13like, okay, why do I think he's an idiot? It was
- 13:17like, because he's talking about things that have nothing to do with what we're trying
- 13:21to do. Well, wait, we haven't figured out what we're
- 13:25trying to do, so no wonder he doesn't know what we need.
- 13:29And when I finally backed into it, I was like, you know what? When
- 13:32we figure out what we're doing, he's got the expertise to help us.
- 13:39So. Yeah, and I think, you know, that applies to. Let's go back to
- 13:42speaking, because speaking has been an amazing thing for me.
- 13:47You know, I, I've always been a speaker. You know,
- 13:51just, you know, I, I, I tend, you know, I spoke when I was in
- 13:55high school. I was an exchange student, and so people asked me to come speak
- 13:58about that. I had a blog talk radio show
- 14:02for three years, but I never really thought about speaking
- 14:06to groups of people or two people. So luckily,
- 14:10you know, in a bad way. Luckily, the COVID came. So now you can speak
- 14:14on Zoom all the time. You don't have to travel all these places. So I
- 14:17get to speak in some amazing places. But I think
- 14:20what people don't understand. Is.
- 14:26When you're talking, people don't want a robot.
- 14:30They want somebody who's authentic, that they can
- 14:34relate to. And I find that the more I speak,
- 14:38the more unscripted the goofier I get,
- 14:42and the more fun I'm Having, you know, and so you
- 14:46should start speaking everywhere. You know, Kimberly Crow says, if somebody
- 14:49hands you a mic, take it, say yes.
- 14:53Yes, absolutely. So. So you had an interesting thing you
- 14:57had to overcome in terms of speaking.
- 15:01Well, it couldn't make sounds with my face. Chronic
- 15:05stutterer. Like no sound
- 15:09would come out of. I was a regular kid, normal kid. And
- 15:12then I went to school one day, something traumatic happened there
- 15:16and I came back that day and I stuttered for 20 some years.
- 15:22Terrible. So I cannot even imagine
- 15:26doing what I'm doing if had I not overcame
- 15:30that. But it gives me a superpower because I've helped people from 18
- 15:34to 81 years old get overstage fright. So when somebody comes in and
- 15:38says, oh, you don't understand, I'm 57 and I've been
- 15:42shy my whole life, I don't think I can speak in public. I got you,
- 15:45boo. I helped the German engineer who was 81 years old.
- 15:50So you think you're setting your ways at 57 as a creative
- 15:54or somebody close to their feelings and I help an 81 year
- 15:58old German engineer. I got you, boo. So
- 16:01the ability to not be impressed by
- 16:05the people you're helping is problems.
- 16:09So back up. If you're impressed by your client's
- 16:12problems, you can't help them. So since I started off
- 16:16way worse than anybody that comes to me for help
- 16:20as a chronic stutterer and I've helped
- 16:24people worse than their situation and I coach people that
- 16:27are further along what they're even dreaming of becoming. Most people
- 16:31don't want to be international keynote speakers or TV hours. Most people want to just
- 16:35speak with confidence when they have to.
- 16:38So since I went, I was worse off than
- 16:42you probably are. If you're listening to this and you're not a chronic stutterer and
- 16:46I've helped people worse off than your situation. If you're younger than 81 and
- 16:50not absolutely terrified,
- 16:54this gives me a power of not being afraid.
- 16:58So as your, the legs are shaking and you're freaking out and I'm coaching
- 17:02you, the fear comes in and bounces off.
- 17:07And when you see that this reaction is possible, it
- 17:11does something inside of you to go, oh, you just snap out of it. Of
- 17:14course we have the techniques and the tools. Last time I counted it was under
- 17:18140. Some tools on helping with that. But
- 17:22the main thing is to keep the main thing,
- 17:26the main thing. So when it comes to speaking,
- 17:30the goal is not to speak to impress. The goal is not to
- 17:34fish for compliments. The goal is not to say people say, oh my God, how
- 17:37brilliant you are, are beginner.
- 17:40Communicators speak to
- 17:44feel understood, speak to say the way they want to say it. And
- 17:48they work on diction and pronunciation and they count their ums and their
- 17:52oz and all that nonsense, which is good to remove, by
- 17:55the way, but it's not the main focus. Great. Communicators
- 18:00communicate their understanding. So when you get in front of
- 18:03an audience and you're not self conscious and you're focused on them and you speak
- 18:07about their view, their pain, their problems. Well, like
- 18:11Yvonne was saying, they added, somebody come in and he's talking about something else
- 18:14that they want. That effect you never want on stage. So you
- 18:18cannot be in tune with what people want,
- 18:22need. And like, if you're not
- 18:25focused on them, and if you're focused on you, you can't be focused on them.
- 18:29So that's kind of step one. Well, you know, I used to,
- 18:33I used to say to people, if you put yourself on a pedestal,
- 18:36you're going to get knocked off, you know,
- 18:40because, you know, there's an evidence. And I had some really
- 18:44humbling experience when I was doing workforce
- 18:47training. I would, you know, with the, all the higher ups would, you know,
- 18:51decide what we were going to train on. And then you would show up today
- 18:54and I'd say, what do you expect? Why are you here? And they would go,
- 18:57because I have to be, which
- 19:01is a rough audience. And I would say, okay, this is what
- 19:05we're gonna, this is what we're training on. And I'm gonna make sure that you
- 19:08can use this in your personal life as well as, since you have to be
- 19:12here, let's make sure you get something that you can actually
- 19:16use, you know, and, and so that's
- 19:19connecting with your audience, you know, what do they, what do they need?
- 19:23Right. That happened to me again when I went to, I was speaking
- 19:27at some kind of, you know, community college, and
- 19:31I was like, why are you here? And almost everybody raised their hand and
- 19:34said, this is the only thing that wasn't filled.
- 19:40And I, and I said, well, where, where did you want to go? And they
- 19:43said, we wanted to go delegation. I said, how about this? I know a little
- 19:47bit about delegation. How about if I give you 10 minutes on delegation and then
- 19:51I get into my talk? And they were like, yeah, that's great, you know,
- 19:55but let's do this before we run out of time. Let's talk about
- 20:00your free gift. Some actions that entrepreneurs can take. And
- 20:03I particularly think that speaking is One of the
- 20:07best ways to get visibility. So any tips that you can
- 20:12give to help people overcome their hesitancy to
- 20:15speak would be great.
- 20:19That's a lot. I asked you a lot. So
- 20:22tips to overcome the hesitancy depends on who, who
- 20:26I'm speaking to and who you are. Because if you're speaking to someone
- 20:30who is socially awkward, even one on one,
- 20:35somebody who's terrified of their own reflection in the mirror, someone who
- 20:39cannot even look one person in the eye, shake their hand and
- 20:43be frank and honest, that person,
- 20:46the way you help that person communicate with confidence on
- 20:50stage is so drastically different than the person who
- 20:55is confident one on one. No problem there. One on one. I got
- 20:59you, boo. We're good to go. Straightforward,
- 21:02honest, ideas flowing, know
- 21:06how to calibrate, know what's going on, know how to land their points. But
- 21:10when they walk on stage, they shrink into a smaller version
- 21:14of themselves and then they deliver a shitty speech. Well, that's
- 21:18so different. Oven I guess
- 21:22I'm asking is some big picture questions. So for
- 21:26instance, for me, I think
- 21:30that people need to understand that when they speak
- 21:33it's not going to land for everybody. And that's okay.
- 21:38But you know, what you want to do is be the most
- 21:41authentic person that you can be when
- 21:45you're making that delivery that, that, that you are ahead of some people
- 21:49and you are behind some people right in the information
- 21:52and what you're going to give. So there's. Okay, so in that, so that
- 21:56concept is okay, that concept we have a thing
- 22:00called the Natural Leader Creator. This is a training I've
- 22:03led on, on zoom
- 22:08multiple times. And when I led the
- 22:12Natural Leader creator, not one time has it not happened
- 22:15that somebody's in the audience crying. Yvonne, People
- 22:19like this, this is the best speaker
- 22:23training I ever had because tears of,
- 22:26tears of liberation and joy. So this would be fun.

- 23:37Gone with a free thing you got because of Yvonne here
- 23:41called the Natural Leader Creator. Enjoy.
- 23:45Fantastic. Okay,
- 23:49we've covered so much material. Is there one or two
- 23:52other things that you want to say to entrepreneurs about speaking to build their business?
- 23:58So we. We talked about you. Did you have another freebie besides the one you
- 24:01just gave us? I got more to that I know what to do with.
- 24:05All right, so if they go and look in the free trial, there'll be things
- 24:08you can try out and stuff, but definitely the. The. The. The leadership
- 24:12one. So
- 24:15for those again, who are hesitating about speaking,
- 24:19is one other thought that you want to give them. That
- 24:24it's the invisible layer of the business world.
- 24:29Think of any leader you
- 24:33admire. Think of anyone. You watch their videos, dead
- 24:37or alive. Find me a leader that has not
- 24:41master speaking. It's.
- 24:45It's not an option. It's par for the course. If you're terrified,
- 24:50work with us or somebody else. Work with who you want.
- 24:53Swallow a pill. Not drugs, but swallow the pill of the. Of the fear and
- 24:57the shame and the embarrassment. Have somebody that can help you through
- 25:00this with a proven track record of getting people on stage and having
- 25:04them succeed. It's not even funny.
- 25:08Now more than ever. What I'm saying was true 20 years ago.
- 25:12Now with the age of AI, AI can and will do everything
- 25:16for you, except it will never be able to put your pants on in the
- 25:20moment, the morning. And walk on stage with confidence. Sorry. It will
- 25:24broadcast you in the multiverse. It will film you in a hologram and
- 25:27transfer what you say. It's gonna
- 25:31put automatic captions, it's gonna put a filter so your skin
- 25:34looks younger, whatever, but it won't be able to put your pants
- 25:38on and walk on stage with confidence. Sorry.
- 25:42Ah, Take my breath away. All right, so
- 25:46I'm gonna take your breath away. When was the last time you did something new
- 25:49for the first time?
- 25:54Something new for the first. For the. For the. For the first time.
- 25:58Yeah. Give it your best.
- 26:01Something new for the first time. Last time. I don't even know.
- 26:09It could be I didn't. I did a new kind of meditation today.
- 26:13Well, that's good. After dinner. Yeah. A new type of meditation with the
- 26:17spine here. You got a new revelation around here in the spine.
- 26:21Ta da. So I say that because
- 26:25I want people to keep being curious and trying new things and speaking
- 26:28is definitely. If you haven't tried it, you definitely need to
- 26:32start small. Do a LinkedIn Live. Do you can control
- 26:36your own stage, which is a wonderful thing. Start that way
- 26:40before you get on somebody else's stage. So I have to give the
- 26:44commercial and that is I hope
- 26:47everybody will subscribe, share and engage on
- 26:51about this podcast on social media. And the reason I do it
- 26:55is I want to give back to my community. I want to
- 26:58expand people that they have contact with. I want to grow
- 27:02a vibrant community and fuel your quest for growth and impact.
- 27:06So I hope that you'll continue to join me for the one small
- 27:10change and that we embark on this journey together. And
- 27:13one of the things that I want you to do is I want you to
- 27:16grow your vision into a bold vision and take advantage of
- 27:19innovative possibilities. So sly. Do you have any
- 27:23last words of wisdom for us? Words
- 27:27of wisdom is the same
- 27:30for everyone. Is the only way
- 27:34to escape the cycle of suffering we all seem to be stuck in
- 27:38is for each and every one of us to learn to deal with our emotions
- 27:40and our states of mind without hurting
- 27:44any sentient beings, including ourselves.
- 27:50That's true. And I would say to you,
- 27:54you know, one of the things that people don't tell you is that
- 27:59change is uncomfortable. It can be simple, but it's
- 28:03not always easy. And it requires resilience
- 28:07and courage and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone.
- 28:11And I want you to stay curious so that you can keep on
- 28:14growing. And I hope that you will join me again for the one small
- 28:18change as we embark on this journey of a bold vision
- 28:22and innovative possibilities. And until the next
- 28:26time, I want you to stay really curious.
