- 0:02Speaker 1: I won't sing at all on this podct no, because
- 0:06Speaker 1: Rose will be doing all this singing for you. Honestly,
- 0:08Speaker 1: I am the Rose. I really hate that you are
- 0:11Speaker 1: so transphobic that you don't want a woman, a trans
- 0:14Speaker 1: woman to sing. Yeah, that's what it's about. It is,
- 0:17Speaker 1: it's it's when it at the end of the day,
- 0:19Speaker 1: it is about you. It is even if you're doing
- 0:22Speaker 1: a bit, that is what it's about for me. So
- 0:24Speaker 1: let's just come in here and make it very thank
- 0:26Speaker 1: you for thank you for believing women. I wonder Rose, listen,
- 0:36Speaker 1: this is our multiverse of madness, an amazing crossover event.
- 0:40Speaker 1: We're in. Matt Rodgers from the Lost Culture Ista podcast
- 0:44Speaker 1: graces you from the the l CPU, the l c
- 0:49Speaker 1: PU in all of its Cafe Boostello Lori is going
- 0:53Speaker 1: to be coming on too, like a version to discuss well,
- 0:57Speaker 1: theme parks roller coasters. I was going to say they're
- 1:00Speaker 1: one of the universal childhood experiences, but I'm sure not
- 1:04Speaker 1: everyone has that experience, but they are a universal childhood
- 1:08Speaker 1: experience and that um I went to Universal Studios as
- 1:11Speaker 1: a child. Yeah, And when it comes to theme parks,
- 1:14Speaker 1: Matt is a historian, an expert. He's the kant a
- 1:18Speaker 1: philosopher of theme parks and roller coaster He's basically the
- 1:21Speaker 1: Michel Fucot of roller coasters, and and there's no one
- 1:26Speaker 1: who has a more prescient knowledge and foresight on the
- 1:30Speaker 1: state of theme parks in this not just this country,
- 1:33Speaker 1: but in the world. Yeah, Matt Rogers is Walt Disney reincarnatives.
- 1:38Speaker 1: That's not what I was saying. Being Walt Disney and
- 1:40Speaker 1: being michef are very different things. And I think you've
- 1:42Speaker 1: kind of mixed the metaphor. Now that's fine. That's what
- 1:45Speaker 1: I do because this is like a virgin the show
- 1:47Speaker 1: where we give yesterday's pop culture today's takes. I'm ros
- 1:51Speaker 1: damn you and I'm fran Toronto. We have Matt Rogers today, who,
- 1:55Speaker 1: as we said, one of the hosts of Lost Culture Stas.
- 1:58Speaker 1: He's also on the New Showtimes Aries. I love that
- 2:00Speaker 1: for you, and I love that for him, and love
- 2:04Speaker 1: this for us. And the show is amazing. If you
- 2:06Speaker 1: haven't already seen it, it's on Showtime, starring Jennifer Lewis,
- 2:10Speaker 1: Molly Shannon, Vanessa Bayer, all of the girls. It's it's wonderful.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Y'all should catch it. I saw something sitting on the
- 2:21Speaker 1: toilet right after we recorded last week that I was like, damn,
- 2:26Speaker 1: like I I wish we had had time to talk
- 2:29Speaker 1: about this in the slush piles of like our internet timelines.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Did you see this kind of ally anthem that Kendrick
- 2:36Speaker 1: Lamar put out recently, No Okay so Um? In his
- 2:40Speaker 1: most recent album, he basically wrote a song dedicated to
- 2:44Speaker 1: his trans uncles that can only be described as maclemorean, like,
- 2:50Speaker 1: can you unpack the macailmore in part of it? Because
- 2:52Speaker 1: I think I know that Macaulmore did something like gay,
- 2:56Speaker 1: but I don't really know the specifics, and maybe some
- 2:59Speaker 1: of our listeners as well. Of course, I mean I
- 3:02Speaker 1: I call it mackailmore in because it's very like Allah,
- 3:06Speaker 1: same love parentheses she keeps Me Warm by Macklemore, Which
- 3:09Speaker 1: was that Like I really blocked that and I really
- 3:13Speaker 1: resent you for making me release it from the depths
- 3:16Speaker 1: of my subconscious Yeah, I mean I don't really want
- 3:20Speaker 1: to plant that in your consciousness. That's not what I
- 3:22Speaker 1: wanted to have that, But let me try, you know,
- 3:26Speaker 1: non convenually we all have to remember that that song
- 3:31Speaker 1: one like so many awards, and the first verse in
- 3:35Speaker 1: this song the first bar. That's a very generous term
- 3:38Speaker 1: for it. I would say, um is, when I was
- 3:41Speaker 1: in the third grade, I thought that I was gay
- 3:44Speaker 1: because I could draw, which is like I think we
- 3:47Speaker 1: forget about this moment in history. But like it's particularly
- 3:51Speaker 1: ironic because Macklemore fourteen, even though that song feels like
- 3:55Speaker 1: so so egregiously dated. Now, like that song one the
- 4:00Speaker 1: fucking Grammy and he famously won, yes, and he famously
- 4:05Speaker 1: won over Kendrick. And that was the year that he
- 4:08Speaker 1: texted Kendrick and screenshine and posted Instagram. It was like, hey, man,
- 4:12Speaker 1: like just so you know, like you deserve this award,
- 4:14Speaker 1: which like white music artists like as a whole needs
- 4:17Speaker 1: to stop doing like Billy did this to Megan, Like
- 4:23Speaker 1: everybody just needs to stop. Just need to stop. No
- 4:29Speaker 1: one needs to be awarded for anything. No more awards.
- 4:32Speaker 1: But this most recent album of Kendrick's, which I have
- 4:36Speaker 1: yet some muscle through because it's like so long, just
- 4:40Speaker 1: f y. I I will not be listening, you know,
- 4:43Speaker 1: I'm not. I'm not ill. I'll be finishing it, but
- 4:46Speaker 1: I don't need to recap at all. Um this song
- 4:48Speaker 1: that he wrote about his trans uncles is called aunties,
- 4:53Speaker 1: and in this song he routinely missed genders his uncle's
- 4:58Speaker 1: like throughout the entire song and also dead names. Caitlyn
- 5:02Speaker 1: Jenner says, and he also says the word faggot like
- 5:06Speaker 1: seventeen times. I'm so happy we're talking about this on
- 5:10Speaker 1: our queer pod, Like everybody knows that. Like the only
- 5:14Speaker 1: person who can say faggot in the course of a
- 5:16Speaker 1: song is Jewel and Jewel. What song was that? I
- 5:21Speaker 1: can't remember where She's like, pieces of You, it's you
- 5:25Speaker 1: say he was a faggot, say he was a Fagget's
- 5:31Speaker 1: socking you because she says it's so many times, very
- 5:37Speaker 1: slow and she can't she can't say it. She did,
- 5:41Speaker 1: but you can't. Long story short. People are saying, like
- 5:44Speaker 1: cancel Kendrick or whatever, but like I just have to
- 5:47Speaker 1: say it, like this is just plain foolish, Like this
- 5:49Speaker 1: is just stupid. And one he has a pulitzer and two, yes,
- 5:55Speaker 1: Kendrick Lamar has a pulitzer. And to the irony of
- 5:59Speaker 1: Kendrick basically writing a Macklemore song after being so publicly
- 6:03Speaker 1: kind of subjugated by Macklemore, like made a mockri of
- 6:06Speaker 1: by Macklemore. I just think the irony is too sick. Anyways,
- 6:09Speaker 1: that's my complaint on I love to know my love
- 6:12Speaker 1: to know that my identity was denigrated in a piece
- 6:15Speaker 1: of media. I won't be consuming Yeah, and like and like,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I you know, I I don't know Kendrick's relationship to
- 6:22Speaker 1: his uncle's, Like you know, the nuances of having trans family.
- 6:25Speaker 1: It's like sometimes you don't care about pronouns or like whatever,
- 6:28Speaker 1: but it's just like you're doing this on a huge
- 6:30Speaker 1: platform with you that you're doing it for an audience,
- 6:32Speaker 1: and like they don't understand those nuances, Like you should
- 6:35Speaker 1: just you should just not Yeah, anyways, Roase, have ever
- 6:39Speaker 1: told you about, like how much I love the show
- 6:42Speaker 1: Legendary A couple of times? You've watched a few episodes
- 6:46Speaker 1: I watched. I watched like two episodes of the first
- 6:50Speaker 1: I will say, any of the virgins out there, if
- 6:53Speaker 1: you watch the first two episodes of the second season,
- 6:57Speaker 1: you'll be hooked into what is one of the great
- 7:00Speaker 1: seasons of reality TV I've ever seen. But season three
- 7:03Speaker 1: is back. The first three episodes I think dropped and
- 7:06Speaker 1: it's so good still it remains like one of my
- 7:10Speaker 1: most favorite shows I'll ever watch. Um, I think from
- 7:15Speaker 1: the judging to the opening credits, to like the way
- 7:20Speaker 1: the stories of all these houses is built, to like
- 7:23Speaker 1: the shade, to like the actual dances, and like production
- 7:27Speaker 1: value that goes into all these numbers. It's like, over
- 7:30Speaker 1: and over again, so good. How has it gotten in
- 7:33Speaker 1: terms of the corporatization of it? Because Charlene did fire
- 7:39Speaker 1: off a tweet that I thought was funny, which was legendary.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Season three is like House of Lais Chips. Is that
- 7:47Speaker 1: kind of the vibe? I will say. She may be
- 7:50Speaker 1: referring to the pool of competitors, which maybe is not
- 7:54Speaker 1: as filled with a listers as the second season, which
- 7:59Speaker 1: had us about Me in the Hospitalenciaga and a lot
- 8:01Speaker 1: of other really crucial players. This most recent season also
- 8:05Speaker 1: has a Ja from drag Race in the House of
- 8:08Speaker 1: Love Asia, which is really interesting to see her in
- 8:11Speaker 1: the context of another reality show wherein she's it's never
- 8:14Speaker 1: acknowledged that she was on drag Race. UM. I will
- 8:18Speaker 1: say the show actually has proven itself to be an
- 8:21Speaker 1: amazing piece of reality TV that is backed and helmed
- 8:24Speaker 1: by Ballroom. UM. Obviously, there are nuances and a lot
- 8:28Speaker 1: of things that Ballroom community is not happy with in
- 8:30Speaker 1: terms of exploitation, or maybe how certain categories are described,
- 8:36Speaker 1: or you know, everything gets lost in translation when it
- 8:37Speaker 1: goes to reality TV. But the long story short is like,
- 8:41Speaker 1: there are tons of people in Ballroom who are writing
- 8:44Speaker 1: and producing and across all the different elements of the
- 8:46Speaker 1: show to authenticate it as much as they can, and
- 8:50Speaker 1: I personally learn a lot from it. She is, and
- 8:54Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie, amazing. She She She's She's a
- 8:58Speaker 1: great judge. She's a great judge. You know what I
- 9:01Speaker 1: just found out recently that I didn't know is that
- 9:04Speaker 1: she is going to be the villain in She Hulk.
- 9:08Speaker 1: That's such a perfect role for her. Oh my god,
- 9:12Speaker 1: I'm so excited. I mean, I'm not a Jamila stand
- 9:15Speaker 1: but I regardless of all the cultural baggage that one
- 9:18Speaker 1: person might hold, I you know, still want to honor
- 9:20Speaker 1: the fact that she's a good judge. UM. I mean, honestly.
- 9:23Speaker 1: To give an example, like in the most recent episode,
- 9:26Speaker 1: they did a challenge where every team had to showcase
- 9:29Speaker 1: a three sixty dip, which is an extremely difficult move
- 9:34Speaker 1: to do, UM, and they had to do it in
- 9:36Speaker 1: front of le Yomi who invented the three sixty. Um,
- 9:41Speaker 1: goes live on Instagram every thirty seconds, goes live on
- 9:44Speaker 1: Instagram every thirty seconds. We love you girl. Um, but
- 9:47Speaker 1: all of those lives. Um. Yeah, but she she's live
- 9:51Speaker 1: on Instagram right now, right now doing three sixties. UM.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Probably she's so amazing. Um. But yeah, she's like god
- 9:58Speaker 1: tier celebrity to And honestly, you could see the nerves
- 10:02Speaker 1: and everybody trying to perform this three sixty. But to
- 10:05Speaker 1: be totally honest, it was interesting to see that as
- 10:07Speaker 1: a challenge because a three sixty is not something that
- 10:10Speaker 1: like every team needs to have in their arsenal. It's
- 10:12Speaker 1: like an extremely difficult move to do. It's basically like asking,
- 10:17Speaker 1: you know, a bunch of ice skating teams to do
- 10:19Speaker 1: a triple axel in front of like Marinagatsu. Like it's
- 10:22Speaker 1: just not a move that everyone can physically do. Anyways,
- 10:27Speaker 1: I definitely want to talk more about the show, like
- 10:29Speaker 1: in future episodes like as it goes on, but I
- 10:31Speaker 1: must like cast my picks for the versions that like
- 10:34Speaker 1: I'm all in for the House of Yogi Yamamoto, but
- 10:37Speaker 1: like love the House of Juicy Guitur and the House
- 10:39Speaker 1: of Revlon as well. If any virgins are listening, I
- 10:42Speaker 1: definitely want to know who your picks are because this
- 10:44Speaker 1: is my favorite show. Um also LAMI should have an
- 10:47Speaker 1: Emmy and maybe DeShawn too, But I think they would
- 10:49Speaker 1: be competing against Rue Paul because it's that good luck
- 10:54Speaker 1: with that uh speak of the devil. We want the
- 11:00Speaker 1: first two episodes of All Stars All Winners season together
- 11:05Speaker 1: on Thursday, and you know, I was not sure how
- 11:09Speaker 1: this whole Winners thing was going to play out, but
- 11:14Speaker 1: it's very good TV. You know. I think it's very
- 11:17Speaker 1: smart to have the conceit of the season b that
- 11:20Speaker 1: no one goes home because I think, like with bringing
- 11:23Speaker 1: a winner back, if you've won that show, you do
- 11:26Speaker 1: not want to come back and embarrass yourself or tarnish
- 11:30Speaker 1: your legacy. So it does feel like the only circumstances
- 11:33Speaker 1: in which those girls would have come back to the show,
- 11:38Speaker 1: like knowing that probably all of the critique was going
- 11:41Speaker 1: to like lean positive if it happened at all, and
- 11:46Speaker 1: that they would be able to stick around for the
- 11:48Speaker 1: entirety of the season. But I think the big thing
- 11:51Speaker 1: that we have to talk about is snatch game, obviously,
- 11:55Speaker 1: and I feel like Jinks in terms of what you're
- 11:57Speaker 1: talking about before, Like Jinks specifically is one of those
- 12:00Speaker 1: legends that was like, I would never go back to
- 12:03Speaker 1: drag Race like ever, ever, and only in this circumstance
- 12:06Speaker 1: that's very friendly and very like it's got a very
- 12:10Speaker 1: celebratory summer camp reunion kind of vibe, like and they're
- 12:15Speaker 1: also there's a lot of money that they can win.
- 12:18Speaker 1: But Jinks like one snatch game forever, forever, forever, hwer
- 12:25Speaker 1: Judy Garland was I mean and clearly. And when I
- 12:28Speaker 1: say like they're in on it, it's like she would
- 12:31Speaker 1: not have been able to do that kind of extended
- 12:35Speaker 1: snatch game performance if the Snatch game was not kind
- 12:38Speaker 1: of set up for it to really be about her. Interesting. Interesting.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I love then. I love that the theories it's not
- 12:47Speaker 1: I mean, not like a conspiracy theory. I just mean
- 12:49Speaker 1: like she knew. I'm sure there was some kind of
- 12:51Speaker 1: production meeting where they were like they knew what she
- 12:54Speaker 1: was going to do ahead of time. Yeah, of course
- 12:57Speaker 1: they all have to kind of submit their their characters
- 13:00Speaker 1: ahead I and I think they can place bets on
- 13:03Speaker 1: who's gonna win. Like I remember turning to you rose
- 13:06Speaker 1: before the snatch game started, like right before. I remember
- 13:10Speaker 1: turning to you and I said, no one has ever
- 13:13Speaker 1: done Judy, which is remarkable, and you were like yeah,
- 13:16Speaker 1: and I was like, Jinx is the person could do it.
- 13:21Speaker 1: She's the only one that could do it. And by
- 13:24Speaker 1: like maybe no, no, shut up. I think only by
- 13:28Speaker 1: like a few points did she maybe beat out Alaska
- 13:33Speaker 1: as May West, which is my favorite snatch game of
- 13:35Speaker 1: all time. But like what I'm like trying not to
- 13:39Speaker 1: get emotional, what Jinx did was transcendent and her not
- 13:43Speaker 1: just like in her jokes and her like you know,
- 13:45Speaker 1: comedic timing and the nuances of the way she would
- 13:49Speaker 1: drop her chin on her hands like this, or like
- 13:52Speaker 1: the way she would kind of fiddle with like a
- 13:54Speaker 1: piece of paper like between her fingers, the way Judy
- 13:56Speaker 1: was like everything she did was so Judy, but the
- 14:00Speaker 1: way she sang was better. She sounded like Judy exactly.
- 14:05Speaker 1: She sounded better than Rene's Alwegger in Judy, like I
- 14:10Speaker 1: was it just elevated like this kind of throwaway Judy
- 14:15Speaker 1: is a drug addict character vibe of snatch games. Like
- 14:20Speaker 1: none of those other girls should have been on stage
- 14:22Speaker 1: with her, like Jinks should if she does not do
- 14:25Speaker 1: like a Judy one woman show after all Stars, she
- 14:29Speaker 1: was missing out on making a lot of money because
- 14:31Speaker 1: she could do it, Like she could do a one
- 14:34Speaker 1: woman show as Judy, and I would I wouldn't pay
- 14:38Speaker 1: to see it, but I would go see it. I
- 14:40Speaker 1: I would pay to see it. Um, But like I
- 14:42Speaker 1: I will say, I thought there were a lot of
- 14:44Speaker 1: other really good snatch games up there. I think the
- 14:46Speaker 1: only people that really boofed it were Shay and ev
- 14:49Speaker 1: I think, um, but he was bad, and like it's
- 14:53Speaker 1: it's it's just telling that that for how bad people
- 14:58Speaker 1: like Shay and Evie were, that they didn't really get
- 15:00Speaker 1: negative critiques. It's telling about the parameters of this season
- 15:06Speaker 1: because on a normal season they would have got torn
- 15:08Speaker 1: up to shreds for those performances. Yeah, I think the
- 15:11Speaker 1: judging on this specific season is kind of interesting and
- 15:15Speaker 1: also on a light touch for sure. It's a light
- 15:17Speaker 1: touch for sure. I also, I mean we are seeing
- 15:21Speaker 1: some paramount plus budget for those guest judges with Naomi
- 15:25Speaker 1: Campbell and Cameron Diaz, Like why haven't we people please
- 15:31Speaker 1: come back to acting? I want I want the return. No,
- 15:35Speaker 1: she looks happy she looks happy selling wine and being
- 15:38Speaker 1: not an actress. I'm I'm happy for her, even if
- 15:41Speaker 1: I myself I'm not happy that she's gone. Have you
- 15:43Speaker 1: ever tried her wine? No? Have you No? I tried
- 15:47Speaker 1: to veer away from all celebrity wines like that. The
- 15:49Speaker 1: Coppola wines are so disgusting to me. Well, I hate
- 15:53Speaker 1: wine famously. You famously hate wine, Um, Cameron Diaz, if
- 15:57Speaker 1: you did come on our show, we would gladly about
- 16:00Speaker 1: your wine. I don't even know what it's called. Amazing,
- 16:02Speaker 1: I'm sure, I'm sure this, Um. I did listen to
- 16:06Speaker 1: the new Harry Styles album because I know we talked
- 16:09Speaker 1: about before that we both liked as it was kind
- 16:13Speaker 1: of surprisingly a lot album. To me, it's very like
- 16:17Speaker 1: adult contemporary elevator music. I do mean that as a compliment.
- 16:21Speaker 1: It clearly was made to be TikTok sounds. I like
- 16:26Speaker 1: the sushi song. I like cinema. I don't know if
- 16:30Speaker 1: this is like a weird comparison to make, but it
- 16:33Speaker 1: does remind me of Florence and the Machines album How Big, Hublu,
- 16:37Speaker 1: How Beautiful Like. I think it's really well produced. My
- 16:42Speaker 1: sisters are huge, hairy style stands and they really don't
- 16:45Speaker 1: like it because I think it's very different than his
- 16:48Speaker 1: last album, but like you know, it's kind of boring,
- 16:51Speaker 1: but like it's very listenable. In comparison to other Harry albums,
- 16:55Speaker 1: I'm much more connected to the music. I think when
- 16:57Speaker 1: he emerged on the scene, I didn't really feel acted
- 17:00Speaker 1: to his music as much as just like his fashion,
- 17:03Speaker 1: which we disagree on, and like his kind of persona
- 17:06Speaker 1: as a celebrity. I really adore you think. I don't
- 17:09Speaker 1: think no, no, no. I would never use the word serve,
- 17:12Speaker 1: I would never use the words certain, but I would
- 17:16Speaker 1: say that Harry Styles frequently wears things that I too
- 17:20Speaker 1: would love to wear, and I think that I'm not
- 17:22Speaker 1: I don't disagree with that. What I'm saying is like
- 17:25Speaker 1: his style is just someone is taking a Gucci runway
- 17:27Speaker 1: look and putting it on him and there's not a
- 17:29Speaker 1: lot of thought there. I agree, but I don't want to.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I would never die on a hill defending Harry like
- 17:37Speaker 1: that's not where I am. But I will say that this.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I do know that you have bought an item of
- 17:41Speaker 1: clothing before because Harry Styles wore it. Though Mama, I've
- 17:44Speaker 1: bought three items of clothing because Harry Styles wore it
- 17:48Speaker 1: three count it um. I will also say this album
- 17:51Speaker 1: I think I could only describe as like adorable, Like
- 17:54Speaker 1: I love the first three songs. I love that the
- 17:57Speaker 1: song music for a Sushi Restaurant wasn't fired by the
- 18:00Speaker 1: fact that he heard another one of his songs while
- 18:03Speaker 1: he was eating sushi at a sushi restaurant, and like
- 18:07Speaker 1: the song is kind of like poking fun at himself
- 18:09Speaker 1: almost for being easy listening. It's giving adult contemporary the
- 18:14Speaker 1: serious x M channel mosaic. It's very that vibe. Closing
- 18:19Speaker 1: the loop on one more thing you rose you were,
- 18:26Speaker 1: in fact wrong about me liking The Northman. I'm so sorry.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I went into this movie with like the lowest possible
- 18:36Speaker 1: expectations and I loved this movie. That's great. I'm very surprised,
- 18:45Speaker 1: but I'm glad you loved it. I think you I
- 18:49Speaker 1: think you famously said if you don't, if you're not
- 18:51Speaker 1: gonna like conversations with friends, you're not gonna like The
- 18:53Speaker 1: North mid Um, which, like you know, very interesting comparison
- 18:58Speaker 1: for me. I can't remember what your train of thought
- 19:02Speaker 1: was there. So sorry to take you out of context.
- 19:04Speaker 1: But you know, I think that you were mostly thinking
- 19:06Speaker 1: about my reaction to The Green Knight, which I think
- 19:08Speaker 1: is a pretty good comp for The Northman. The difference
- 19:11Speaker 1: is that the Green Knight was not interested in having
- 19:14Speaker 1: a plot. It was interested in like painting a picture,
- 19:17Speaker 1: where the Northman I think was plot plot, plot, plot plot.
- 19:21Speaker 1: And even though you know the story is very simple,
- 19:25Speaker 1: you know, like it it follows. Yeah, but like I
- 19:29Speaker 1: felt like it was still felt so fresh, and I
- 19:31Speaker 1: was shook also that there aren't really that many movies
- 19:35Speaker 1: out there that are telling Viking Norse mythology stories, Like
- 19:40Speaker 1: Norse mythology is yeah, you know that's through a Marvel
- 19:46Speaker 1: superhero lens. Yeah, but like all around just like completely dope,
- 19:51Speaker 1: like Alexander scars Guard is like a fucking hulk of
- 19:54Speaker 1: a man like that. That was like so much. Body
- 19:57Speaker 1: Mass is like amazing to watch the entire time. And
- 20:00Speaker 1: didn't tell me that the movie ends in a fight
- 20:02Speaker 1: to the death in like a pool of lava. In
- 20:05Speaker 1: the news, it's giving It's giving mountain doom. Literally nude,
- 20:09Speaker 1: they were naked, Like what was that? You hate spoilers?
- 20:13Speaker 1: Why would I have told you? Yeah? Okay, yeah, I
- 20:16Speaker 1: appreciate that, and sorry to the virgins whom I just
- 20:18Speaker 1: spoiled it too. I don't know why or how or
- 20:38Speaker 1: when this was decided, but you are something of an
- 20:42Speaker 1: expert on theme parks for sure. I used to when
- 20:45Speaker 1: I was little. I used to draw the map of
- 20:48Speaker 1: Disneyland from memory were you would for my own? Can
- 20:51Speaker 1: you still draw it from both Disneyland and Disney World? Yeah?
- 20:56Speaker 1: That the the layout of Magic Kingdom I would know
- 20:59Speaker 1: by heart, and Epcot and Hollywood Studios and I'm looking
- 21:02Speaker 1: at them one. When I was little, in bored, I
- 21:03Speaker 1: would draw the maps. There is something really queer about
- 21:06Speaker 1: like when did you come out? I almost had eleven,
- 21:10Speaker 1: which is a lot of bold face light nine. I
- 21:13Speaker 1: feel like drawing maps as a kid, like or like
- 21:14Speaker 1: roller coaster tycoon type ship, like like invent. I used
- 21:18Speaker 1: to like design malls, you know, like that was like
- 21:20Speaker 1: a thing. I feel like, you know, every kid kind
- 21:22Speaker 1: of wants to be an architect until they figure out
- 21:24Speaker 1: that math is involved, and then I'm like, at least
- 21:27Speaker 1: for me, I was like, no, thanks. I didn't design malls,
- 21:29Speaker 1: but I went to them a lot, and I still
- 21:31Speaker 1: could find my way around my home mall fully blindfolded.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Is that how you are with Disney? Yeah, oh no,
- 21:38Speaker 1: for sure. Like when I go to any theme park, really,
- 21:41Speaker 1: I sort of take it upon myself to be like
- 21:43Speaker 1: the leader of the trip, and I will know what
- 21:45Speaker 1: everything is oftentimes, if not like intuitively, like oftentimes like
- 21:50Speaker 1: sense memory will kick in and I'll be like, this
- 21:52Speaker 1: is where we must go and I used to What
- 21:53Speaker 1: really bothers me is when they do refurbishments and renovations
- 21:57Speaker 1: without sort of like letting letting, you know, letting the
- 22:01Speaker 1: girls know, because I'll be like, here's a short cut
- 22:03Speaker 1: turn around, and all of a sudden they'll be just
- 22:04Speaker 1: a wall and I want to ride a shutdown forget it?
- 22:07Speaker 1: Are you? Are you on a schedule? Is it TikTok?
- 22:10Speaker 1: When you're sore? An itinerary moment? I like to know
- 22:14Speaker 1: what's the next thing we're doing. But I don't care
- 22:17Speaker 1: beyond that. Also because most of the time, most of
- 22:20Speaker 1: the time when I go to theme park, now I'm
- 22:22Speaker 1: how do I say this extraordinarily fucked up? Like I'll
- 22:27Speaker 1: go on like half a tab, I'll the theme park
- 22:30Speaker 1: and like, really fuck it up? I mean, who does
- 22:33Speaker 1: like theme park sober like children. I think outside of that,
- 22:37Speaker 1: like who you know, I mean, yeah, you can't. I
- 22:39Speaker 1: think kids. I don't even like to go when there's
- 22:42Speaker 1: kids around, like I go on the weekday during the day.
- 22:44Speaker 1: That's that's very smart. That's the last theme park we
- 22:47Speaker 1: went to was we went to Universal during the day
- 22:51Speaker 1: on a weekday and very early. Um. I was very
- 22:55Speaker 1: I felt very um slighted and maligned and like the
- 22:59Speaker 1: odd were started against me because Fran didn't want to
- 23:01Speaker 1: get there as early as I did. Yes, I remember
- 23:04Speaker 1: when you when you all did this, like you were like, yeah,
- 23:07Speaker 1: you talked about last coul and you were like, we
- 23:09Speaker 1: have to get there one it opens before, it open before.
- 23:11Speaker 1: But the thing is you didn't know the actual open time.
- 23:14Speaker 1: We got that wrong, and so we showed up ten
- 23:16Speaker 1: minutes early. Way and it doesn't mean the plan was right.
- 23:19Speaker 1: And we arrived and and um we like it was
- 23:21Speaker 1: like one of those days where they made the entire
- 23:23Speaker 1: crowd waiting outside do a countdown. Yeah, but they did
- 23:26Speaker 1: let us in early. Yes they didn't. It was they
- 23:28Speaker 1: always do. That's that's sort of a like hack, if
- 23:32Speaker 1: I might, sort of a a hack life. Half curtain is
- 23:36Speaker 1: they will always let you win fifteen minutes early, even
- 23:39Speaker 1: if the rides don't start until like, let's say eight
- 23:41Speaker 1: or nine am when the park opens, Like you can
- 23:43Speaker 1: get it early. Get your Starbucks. Yes, I mean, what's
- 23:46Speaker 1: your first turkey leg of the day. We got We'll
- 23:49Speaker 1: get into the we'll get into the food later. What
- 23:51Speaker 1: are the parks that are like on your rotation so
- 23:54Speaker 1: you frequent them? You probably have like passes our memberships
- 23:57Speaker 1: to some of these. Do you have, like if you
- 23:59Speaker 1: were to kind of lay out for the virgins, you know,
- 24:02Speaker 1: a tearing of or or ones that you regularly visit.
- 24:05Speaker 1: So virgins, and I really know I'm talking to you today. Um,
- 24:09Speaker 1: my favorite theme park destination in all of life is, um,
- 24:13Speaker 1: the Universal Orlando Resort. Since this is and bar and grow.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Um it's thank you for saying that, because I'm from Florida,
- 24:23Speaker 1: and I really you know, and so you sort of understand. Intrinsically,
- 24:26Speaker 1: the Disney World is sort of hell yes on Earth,
- 24:30Speaker 1: which for reasons I will get into and you'll agree with,
- 24:33Speaker 1: I'm certain. But the thing about Universal Studios Florida and
- 24:37Speaker 1: Islands of Adventure is there right next to each other,
- 24:40Speaker 1: and they're also connected via the I'm so sorry Hogwarts
- 24:43Speaker 1: express um and so I know, I know, I know,
- 24:47Speaker 1: but we'll get into it. We're gonna get into well, yes,
- 24:52Speaker 1: of course she's something we must tackle today if we're
- 24:54Speaker 1: going to talk about this. Because of the revolution that
- 24:57Speaker 1: happened when HP came to theme parks, I mean, the
- 25:01Speaker 1: girls are clamoring to catch up. So the reason I
- 25:05Speaker 1: like Universal Studios and Islands of Venture is there right
- 25:08Speaker 1: there next to each other, and there's the city walk
- 25:10Speaker 1: area where you can eat and hang out. And also
- 25:12Speaker 1: they have the rides that are more like that are
- 25:14Speaker 1: less for babies, so you actually can go get a
- 25:17Speaker 1: hashtag thrill and you really could do it all in
- 25:21Speaker 1: like one or two days, whereas Disney World is sort
- 25:24Speaker 1: of um involved, it's involved, it takes months and months
- 25:28Speaker 1: of planning. I actually get more and more upset every
- 25:33Speaker 1: time every single time I go, because it's like so
- 25:36Speaker 1: overwhelming in terms of just the endeavor that it is
- 25:39Speaker 1: to get from one park to another. It's like a
- 25:41Speaker 1: forty five minute situation, really crowded. Often it gets more
- 25:46Speaker 1: and more expensive all the time. I mean, and Universal
- 25:49Speaker 1: you can truly do in well the one here you
- 25:51Speaker 1: can do the whole thing in like six hours literally,
- 25:53Speaker 1: But do you remember the gag Because, as I said,
- 25:56Speaker 1: I grew up in Florida, So I remember when Islands
- 25:58Speaker 1: of Adventure opened and it was like a paradigm shift.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Was the Islands of Adventures? Like, so it's the big
- 26:06Speaker 1: ride at the time when it opened. Was the Hulk Coaster?
- 26:09Speaker 1: M dueling dragons, epic, amazing rest, power and power. Does
- 26:16Speaker 1: the Hulk roller coaster still exists? Yes, and it is.
- 26:19Speaker 1: It's one of my favorite rollers. So basically, like you
- 26:22Speaker 1: are you a coaster person? I so I actually am
- 26:24Speaker 1: a bit of aversion to the to the theme parks
- 26:27Speaker 1: in general. Like I've been to Disneyland twice as a kid,
- 26:29Speaker 1: been to Six Flags maybe once, and then we went
- 26:31Speaker 1: to Universal for the first time last year. So then
- 26:34Speaker 1: you did the Mummy roller coaster, yes, which is the
- 26:36Speaker 1: best roller coaster experience, and you had a fabulous have
- 26:39Speaker 1: a fabulous But I think I think the Friend could
- 26:41Speaker 1: do Hulk. Have you been have you been to do
- 26:43Speaker 1: the Velocity coaster yet? No? Absolutely amazing, Like I think
- 26:48Speaker 1: the best theme park ride that exists currently. What do
- 26:51Speaker 1: you look for? What are your criteria in a theme
- 26:53Speaker 1: park ride? What you want thrills, you want chills, you
- 26:56Speaker 1: want thrills and chills. So definitely thrills and chills. But
- 27:00Speaker 1: for me, what's most important is immersion. What's what's most
- 27:03Speaker 1: important for me, especially like if you're going to go
- 27:05Speaker 1: to Disney or Universal, I want to step in and
- 27:08Speaker 1: feel like, Okay, every inch of this place is covered
- 27:11Speaker 1: in detail, Like I love to feel like when I'm
- 27:16Speaker 1: when I've chewed my whole edible and my twenty milligrams hit,
- 27:19Speaker 1: I want to feel like I'm in it. I love.
- 27:23Speaker 1: That's why I love avatar Land is because they have
- 27:26Speaker 1: set the scene. We'll put respect on Disney's name. For
- 27:30Speaker 1: the World of Pandora, I have to tell you wouldn't
- 27:34Speaker 1: exist without world. Okay. So given the back story on
- 27:39Speaker 1: this podcast before, maybe or maybe I just explained it
- 27:42Speaker 1: to you. So originally Harry Potter World was supposed to
- 27:45Speaker 1: be at Disney, but J. K. Rowling wanted a train
- 27:47Speaker 1: to transport people in and Disney said absolutely not. So
- 27:52Speaker 1: Universal was obviously like, yes, we'll give you a train,
- 27:54Speaker 1: We'll give you anything. Trans women are men. She has
- 27:59Speaker 1: literally like an indignant, like adult child. She's like, I
- 28:02Speaker 1: want to she wanted a full creative control, and they
- 28:05Speaker 1: were not willing and which Disney was not willing to
- 28:08Speaker 1: do that because they have the whole imagineering structure. And
- 28:11Speaker 1: then when Disney started to lose a bunch of attendees
- 28:15Speaker 1: and money to Universal, they said, we need a hot
- 28:18Speaker 1: property that is a similar kind of immersive world. And
- 28:21Speaker 1: they said, what about the highest grossing movie ever made
- 28:24Speaker 1: which no one remembers, which, by the way, the Way
- 28:29Speaker 1: of Water. I can't. I'm so excited to see this trailer.
- 28:32Speaker 1: I thought, I will say this when they sat when
- 28:33Speaker 1: they announced that they were going to bring Avatar to
- 28:35Speaker 1: the parks, that was like their answer to Harry Potter.
- 28:38Speaker 1: I'm getting the sense that you were like, this is
- 28:40Speaker 1: an iconic flop. And I felt the same way too,
- 28:42Speaker 1: because I was like, Harry Potter is an entire world,
- 28:45Speaker 1: and I'm not saying that Avatar is not an entire world,
- 28:47Speaker 1: but Harry Potter is a proven eight film like extensive
- 28:52Speaker 1: international book series. Not to say that Avatar is international,
- 28:55Speaker 1: but you'd think like you'd want to at least release
- 28:57Speaker 1: a couple more of those movies. You want something with
- 28:59Speaker 1: more source material. I was proven wrong when I went, oh,
- 29:02Speaker 1: I cried on flight of the whatever stream. Really the
- 29:09Speaker 1: smell of like the orange that you get as you're
- 29:11Speaker 1: flying over the trees is it is life changing. That's
- 29:14Speaker 1: a lot for something that's essentially you know, furn gully,
- 29:17Speaker 1: but with like technological imperialists and the way that you're
- 29:20Speaker 1: you're like writing the thing and you can feel it
- 29:23Speaker 1: breathing between your legs. It's giving you. It's given. It's
- 29:28Speaker 1: it's basically it's moving beyond the five senses to also
- 29:31Speaker 1: a sixth sense, which is like sort of a horny
- 29:35Speaker 1: sexual like thing. It's like it's like it's like intimate.
- 29:38Speaker 1: The sixth sense is horny. It's a beast breathing between
- 29:42Speaker 1: your legs. And that's simple the six senses culture. The
- 29:47Speaker 1: sixth sense is wrong. Podcast talk about if we're talking
- 29:53Speaker 1: about immersion, can we talk about the Universal Studios Tour. Oh?
- 29:58Speaker 1: That was it's just called the the Studio Tour. That
- 30:00Speaker 1: was our favorite part of university phenomenal. I like for
- 30:04Speaker 1: the virgins, like it is like a again all six senses,
- 30:07Speaker 1: Like it is like you know, for d there's like
- 30:10Speaker 1: smells and like sprays and like that. I think that
- 30:14Speaker 1: like the way they I just had never been on
- 30:16Speaker 1: a ride like that before, where like everything around you
- 30:18Speaker 1: is like three dimensionally. To go to Orlando, you must
- 30:24Speaker 1: take friends. Let me tell you, we're gonna go visit
- 30:27Speaker 1: my family and then we're gonna and then we're gonna
- 30:30Speaker 1: steal someone's car and go to Orlando. I have to
- 30:32Speaker 1: and do four days. There is this and we have
- 30:35Speaker 1: to go dead of winter January at Disney Universal. Best
- 30:39Speaker 1: time to go, can tell you. I think it's actually October,
- 30:41Speaker 1: but okay, oh really okay, well Halloween Halloween nights also,
- 30:46Speaker 1: But as a Floridian, you know that was always when
- 30:49Speaker 1: we went because it was like, I think it was dead.
- 30:51Speaker 1: There was no tourism. Um. I do love going in
- 30:54Speaker 1: October and I love going during the holidays. I have
- 30:57Speaker 1: trade in Orlando. I have like an absolutely mass of
- 31:00Speaker 1: man that talks about like getting me pregnant. Everyone. I
- 31:02Speaker 1: feel like it would be everyone. Well, there's also it's
- 31:08Speaker 1: that people live in Orlando. There's a bunch of colleges there,
- 31:11Speaker 1: and there's a huge international airport, so there's always trade.
- 31:14Speaker 1: And also the thing is like people that work at Disney,
- 31:17Speaker 1: and there's actually not a straight person that works at
- 31:20Speaker 1: Universal or Disney No, it's entirely queers, and so they're
- 31:24Speaker 1: so horny because they're inner child. Yeah, they have to
- 31:28Speaker 1: be sort of like inner child all day and then
- 31:30Speaker 1: when they when when the lights go down at night, honey,
- 31:33Speaker 1: there's still you know, adult queers. Yeah, but they're still
- 31:36Speaker 1: using their baby voice. No, no, no, not not when
- 31:41Speaker 1: you open grinder in Orlando, it's treasure. Have you ever
- 31:45Speaker 1: gotten sucked off at Disney? I've never hooked have you
- 31:49Speaker 1: hooked up on any side with Okay, my my ex
- 31:52Speaker 1: boyfriend Jared and I went, and my ex ex boyfriend
- 31:57Speaker 1: Henry and I went, and I think I did I
- 32:00Speaker 1: ever hooked up there because I felt wrong. It's no,
- 32:03Speaker 1: not even that we're so tired, like full of meat
- 32:07Speaker 1: at the end of the day. It's not a horny thing.
- 32:09Speaker 1: It's it's like you're very shausted and your feet are
- 32:13Speaker 1: killing you. You ate trash like you're not trying to pork.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Have you ever been to gay Days? No with the
- 32:20Speaker 1: matching shirts. No, I don't really do the matching shirts.
- 32:24Speaker 1: And I don't dress up in March. I don't do that. No, no, no,
- 32:27Speaker 1: you don't do Earbridge too far. It's not that I'm
- 32:29Speaker 1: opposed to doing ears, and maybe when I go again
- 32:32Speaker 1: in several weeks, like I will do the ear. Would
- 32:34Speaker 1: you do like a Wanda Crown ear? I would definitely
- 32:37Speaker 1: do a w I wand ahead and I heard by
- 32:39Speaker 1: the way California Adventure now has I've seen Picnic and
- 32:45Speaker 1: she kind of does the hand There's there's no special effects,
- 32:49Speaker 1: it's just hands. She doesn't handwork. Kids are gonna be like,
- 32:52Speaker 1: where's your or queen. It's like Image and Heap making
- 32:56Speaker 1: making beats well, Image and Heap is playing her in
- 32:58Speaker 1: the park. Imagine he's actually booked the gig and very
- 33:03Speaker 1: circular because imagine he did the music for the Harry
- 33:06Speaker 1: Potter play. So it all comes back to University, which
- 33:09Speaker 1: I almost saw when I was in New York. But
- 33:12Speaker 1: that's actually a bridge I won't cross with j K.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I I won't support her directly, like I won't support
- 33:18Speaker 1: something that she wrote. Okay, so this leads better than us.
- 33:21Speaker 1: This leads us to a fun um theme park tidbit,
- 33:23Speaker 1: which is that before j K. Rowling was out as
- 33:26Speaker 1: a turf, I think before I knew what a turf was.
- 33:29Speaker 1: When the Harry Potter theme parks had just opened, I
- 33:32Speaker 1: was kicked out of Universal for shoplifting. What did you
- 33:34Speaker 1: try to take? I tried to steal a wand because
- 33:37Speaker 1: I was I was a really good mischief manage, well,
- 33:42Speaker 1: mischief not manage, because they got Miguel um and that
- 33:46Speaker 1: is why I transitioned so that I could go back.
- 33:49Speaker 1: So did the errors come out of nowhere and arrest you?
- 33:52Speaker 1: And did Harry Potter as a cop escort you out
- 33:54Speaker 1: of the theme park? Like what was the scenario? Yeah,
- 33:56Speaker 1: they slapped some manacles on me. You were enchanted. They
- 34:01Speaker 1: made one of those posters of my face I wanted
- 34:06Speaker 1: and wizard would you like to connect Wizard? Yeah, they
- 34:11Speaker 1: slapped the butter beer out of my hand. Oh my gosh.
- 34:14Speaker 1: So now you may return and you have returned. I
- 34:16Speaker 1: have returned to many times and their facial recognition software
- 34:19Speaker 1: can't get me because you know what, estrogen redeposits a
- 34:23Speaker 1: lot of the fat in your face. Okay, so listen,
- 34:26Speaker 1: did this happen in Orlando or Hollywood Orlando? Because this
- 34:29Speaker 1: was like, this was like two thousand nine. Is it
- 34:31Speaker 1: like a lifetime band or is it just like that
- 34:34Speaker 1: they thought it was a lifetime band? But jokes on
- 34:36Speaker 1: them because I have a different name. Try it. Try Okay.
- 34:41Speaker 1: On the Disney of it all, did you have like
- 34:43Speaker 1: growing up, did you have like favorite Disney characters that
- 34:45Speaker 1: you wanted to take pictures with you? It's not about
- 34:48Speaker 1: characters for me, and I have never you didn't have
- 34:50Speaker 1: an autograph of you have to stop you because I
- 34:53Speaker 1: did have an autograph book. But even then I knew
- 34:55Speaker 1: it was a waste of time. I'm like, I want
- 34:56Speaker 1: to get online for the rides. I want to I
- 34:57Speaker 1: want to experience attractions. Okay, we gotta go, we gotta go,
- 35:01Speaker 1: and that that is Whenever I sort of am at
- 35:04Speaker 1: any theme park now and I feel myself my shoulders
- 35:06Speaker 1: starting to rise because I feel like we're not making
- 35:08Speaker 1: good time. I just sort of tried to tell myself, like,
- 35:11Speaker 1: it's okay, you're an adult, you've done it all before,
- 35:15Speaker 1: you can do it again later. It's okay, don't just relax.
- 35:22Speaker 1: But but it is like there's something about it where
- 35:25Speaker 1: it's just like, you know, the park has a closing
- 35:27Speaker 1: time and you gotta keep going. Yeah, and all theme
- 35:31Speaker 1: parks are really an assault on the senses, And you
- 35:33Speaker 1: became immediately overwhelmed with an assaults on the body. It
- 35:37Speaker 1: is it is like going to war being at a
- 35:40Speaker 1: theme park. Yeah, pretty much. It is a crusade from beginning.
- 35:45Speaker 1: But I just want to ask you, though, what was
- 35:48Speaker 1: your favorite thing when you went to you so the
- 35:50Speaker 1: Mommy was your favorite ride? The Mommy was my favorite
- 35:52Speaker 1: ride at Universal for sure. I think that the studio
- 35:54Speaker 1: tour was definitely a standout. Well, that's like an experience
- 35:57Speaker 1: one must have. Yeah, immerses, what did you think of
- 35:59Speaker 1: Jurassic World. Jurassic World was fine. I feel like, I mean,
- 36:04Speaker 1: I don't know what did you think. I thought it
- 36:05Speaker 1: was fun. I kind of like classic Jurassic Park more
- 36:08Speaker 1: that is because it's the ride of my childhood. I
- 36:11Speaker 1: feel similarly about the Jaws ride. Thank you, and I
- 36:14Speaker 1: really I think that actually this is something so okay,
- 36:17Speaker 1: there's some background on me is um. When I was little,
- 36:21Speaker 1: all I wanted to do and become was the one
- 36:24Speaker 1: of the skippers on the Jaws attraction. Like I'm actually
- 36:27Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm currently to this day off
- 36:30Speaker 1: book on it, but I was for a time off
- 36:32Speaker 1: book on it, and I actually did a show at
- 36:34Speaker 1: You See Beginning or called You Will Get Wet, which
- 36:37Speaker 1: was a half hour spank they called it, which was
- 36:40Speaker 1: like a show that you tried to get running at
- 36:41Speaker 1: the theater. And in it, I played a character that's
- 36:44Speaker 1: dream was to do supposed to be on the Jaws boat.
- 36:46Speaker 1: And I actually did the Jaws attraction in the theater,
- 36:50Speaker 1: and Bowen Yang played the shark. Yeah, there's a video
- 36:53Speaker 1: of it. You can watch it. It's called you Will
- 36:55Speaker 1: Get Wet. There's video of the whole show. How did
- 36:57Speaker 1: both shark? Was it like a cost Well, he played
- 37:01Speaker 1: it fabulous and he was very scary and he really
- 37:04Speaker 1: popped out. And my friend Dave Mazzoni played fire and
- 37:07Speaker 1: so he was sort of dancing fire and I was
- 37:11Speaker 1: the skipper and I would take people from the audience
- 37:12Speaker 1: and put them on a boat and there was water
- 37:14Speaker 1: effects and fire effects and sound effects, and I used
- 37:16Speaker 1: darkness and flashlights to make the boat house. So this
- 37:20Speaker 1: was a full thing that I did because it was
- 37:22Speaker 1: so real to me when I was a kid, like
- 37:24Speaker 1: only wanting to do that. And so one of the
- 37:28Speaker 1: big mistakes I think that that theme park chain has
- 37:32Speaker 1: made is in destroying their attractions that sort of actually
- 37:37Speaker 1: commemorate old classic movies. Your Jaws, Your back to the future,
- 37:41Speaker 1: which also hurts um and a terminator to I mean
- 37:46Speaker 1: getting a place with born identity, which is sort of
- 37:48Speaker 1: a slap in the face. Um. But all these things
- 37:51Speaker 1: are now gone, And so whenever I go to what
- 37:53Speaker 1: is an extended Harry Potter section, because now the grin
- 37:57Speaker 1: goots Bank and all that is where it's so funny.
- 38:00Speaker 1: They need one at Universal here, they really do, and
- 38:04Speaker 1: I'm sure they'll figure it out, but it hurts to
- 38:06Speaker 1: know that I'm in that area where Jaws was because
- 38:09Speaker 1: it's so formative for me. And I also think if
- 38:11Speaker 1: you're going to be Universal and not have something themed
- 38:14Speaker 1: to Jaws, and it can't be that whack thing they
- 38:16Speaker 1: do on the studio tour, which is still kind of fun,
- 38:18Speaker 1: but comparison to your Jaws experience, in comparison to a
- 38:23Speaker 1: full five minute experience where you're on the boat and
- 38:25Speaker 1: Jaws is attacking the boat, I mean, this is just
- 38:27Speaker 1: something like if you didn't experience it as a child,
- 38:30Speaker 1: or like until it was closed, like really sad for you.
- 38:33Speaker 1: But here you are holding them accountable. And if you could,
- 38:37Speaker 1: if you could revive the Jaws ride and work on it,
- 38:39Speaker 1: would you give up everything you have in your career currently, Um,
- 38:43Speaker 1: everything but the money. Okay, so we make the same
- 38:46Speaker 1: salary working on the Jaws. What I want to do
- 38:49Speaker 1: is I want to figure it out on the same
- 38:50Speaker 1: level of fame. Yeah, yeah, same level of fame. And
- 38:53Speaker 1: I'm okay, you feel like you have fan accounts like
- 38:57Speaker 1: best for ever. If I could continue to live my
- 39:00Speaker 1: life style now and no, it wouldn't get better or worse,
- 39:03Speaker 1: and I would have to do the Jaws ride for
- 39:05Speaker 1: rest of my life. I think I could be happy
- 39:07Speaker 1: doing that. I think you could too, and I would
- 39:08Speaker 1: love to be on that boat. I think I would
- 39:11Speaker 1: give you a real thrill. And something I didn't realize
- 39:12Speaker 1: is that like I always would go like, especially when
- 39:15Speaker 1: I was younger, and I was like, these people aren't
- 39:17Speaker 1: giving it any energy, Like I don't believe at all
- 39:19Speaker 1: that they they're not. I would always think I could
- 39:21Speaker 1: do a better job than them, And then you realize,
- 39:23Speaker 1: like they do it fifty times in a row, like
- 39:25Speaker 1: they have to be speaking at this volume, they can't
- 39:27Speaker 1: be actually screaming. I'm surprised you never pushed someone off
- 39:29Speaker 1: the boat and took the mic. I'm surprised too, because
- 39:32Speaker 1: there was no seatbelts on that. Speaking of movie rides,
- 39:47Speaker 1: one of my favorite rides at MGM Studios was in
- 39:51Speaker 1: the Chinese Theater where you great great movie ride like
- 39:54Speaker 1: the part with with an Alien where the alien comes
- 39:56Speaker 1: out of the ceiling of different was an iconic Sigourney
- 40:02Speaker 1: Weaver animatronic if you go through all these different movies MGM.
- 40:06Speaker 1: So I'm interested to know what your favorite area of
- 40:09Speaker 1: Disney is because MGM Studios was definitely my favorite growing up.
- 40:13Speaker 1: The Tower of Terror is it to? I believe that
- 40:16Speaker 1: the Tower of Terror is is um the world's greatest
- 40:20Speaker 1: theme park attraction. That's how we ever seen the movie
- 40:22Speaker 1: starring Steve Guttenberger. Of course, of course, um yeah. I
- 40:28Speaker 1: I feel like Rose and I were discussing before you
- 40:30Speaker 1: came here that you you will inevitably be immortalized on
- 40:33Speaker 1: a theme park of some kind. I think I feel
- 40:36Speaker 1: like all my only goal is to book a film.
- 40:39Speaker 1: The only reason I'd even want to book like a
- 40:41Speaker 1: film franchise is to potentially star in a pre show
- 40:46Speaker 1: for a theme park attraction, like you know, Philly Serves,
- 40:48Speaker 1: shot is in Dinosaur And there's just certain actors that
- 40:51Speaker 1: pop up in these Disney theme park attractions. And by
- 40:54Speaker 1: the way, Julia Stiles just iconically booked the Born stunt show,
- 40:58Speaker 1: so she does the whole pre show and when I
- 40:59Speaker 1: tell you, I didn't know it was her. And when
- 41:01Speaker 1: I saw her pop up and she was like, I'm
- 41:02Speaker 1: Nicolette Parsons, I was like, I absolutely scream. Any think
- 41:06Speaker 1: she's just doing it as Julia Stiles, Well, I don't know,
- 41:10Speaker 1: because also canonically she's dead in the Born films. And
- 41:13Speaker 1: he even says she goes and he thought I died,
- 41:16Speaker 1: but I didn't, And I'm like, girl, you look dead
- 41:17Speaker 1: to me. The rides play fast and Loose with Cannon,
- 41:21Speaker 1: they really do? They really. One of the scariest rides
- 41:25Speaker 1: of my childhood was do you remember I don't know
- 41:26Speaker 1: if it still exists at Walt disney World, snow Whites
- 41:30Speaker 1: Scary than they have updated it to now they don't
- 41:33Speaker 1: have that anymore because no, it's now so there's now
- 41:36Speaker 1: like a bigger snow white thing us. It's not scary.
- 41:40Speaker 1: There's no witch at the end. There's a witch at
- 41:42Speaker 1: the end, and there's a witch throughout. But the thing
- 41:44Speaker 1: about snow White Scary Adventures is it was so small,
- 41:48Speaker 1: like like you were in that tiny little cart and
- 41:51Speaker 1: like you're literally moving through very small sets. Like that's
- 41:53Speaker 1: the cool thing about Fantasy Land, I think, is that
- 41:55Speaker 1: when you go in those little dark rides that's what
- 41:57Speaker 1: they're called, Like everything is very intimate and small. Like
- 42:00Speaker 1: if you ever do um Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Honey
- 42:03Speaker 1: Pop the Poppers, like you go to Hell at the end,
- 42:06Speaker 1: it literally ends in Hell and it feels like the
- 42:08Speaker 1: queerest ride. And it's also so small and like everything
- 42:11Speaker 1: that's happening is right on top of you. So in
- 42:13Speaker 1: that snow White Scary Adventure ride, the witch would pop
- 42:15Speaker 1: out and she'd be right there right That intimacy definitely
- 42:19Speaker 1: was terrifying to me as a kid. I remember it
- 42:21Speaker 1: vividly as a kid, and then I went back again
- 42:23Speaker 1: as an adult and I was like, this is absolutely honestly,
- 42:26Speaker 1: the ride is better than the movie. It was called
- 42:28Speaker 1: Snow White's Adventures, and they had to change the name
- 42:30Speaker 1: to snow White Scary Adventures because parents would be coming
- 42:33Speaker 1: off the ride like what the funk? Yeah, I like
- 42:35Speaker 1: I like park that is aiming to terrify and traumatize
- 42:39Speaker 1: a child, of course, because that is a formative experience.
- 42:42Speaker 1: That we all need. I still feel a little scared
- 42:44Speaker 1: atmospherically on Terror of terror do they do an incredible
- 42:49Speaker 1: Twilight Zone theme song and the fact that they've changed
- 42:52Speaker 1: it to what Guardians of the Galaxy in Disneyland, but
- 42:54Speaker 1: also the mission break up right is a bop? I
- 42:58Speaker 1: don't know. I also not been on it. I haven't.
- 43:01Speaker 1: But I also missed the Aerosmith roller coaster at MGM,
- 43:04Speaker 1: which it was Arrowsmith there. Yes, it's still there, it's
- 43:08Speaker 1: still standing tall. I haven't been to that in Orlando
- 43:12Speaker 1: Disney in a while. You actually have to go, because
- 43:14Speaker 1: I'm telling you. Also, the Hollywood Studios is now completely
- 43:17Speaker 1: different and they have the Star Wars Land and Rose.
- 43:20Speaker 1: You have to do Rise of the Resistance. I the
- 43:23Speaker 1: last time I was at Disney, I tried to do
- 43:25Speaker 1: Rise of the Resistance and it was like a virtual
- 43:28Speaker 1: and you couldn't You couldn't get Star Wars shooter game. No,
- 43:34Speaker 1: it's confusing, it's it's it's they actually don't have that anymore.
- 43:38Speaker 1: And so now you can just get on the standby
- 43:39Speaker 1: line or like pay for like the Lightning Lane, which
- 43:41Speaker 1: isn't what they call the fast Past, but the Rise
- 43:43Speaker 1: of the resistance is like, first of all, it costs
- 43:45Speaker 1: a billion dollars, which we could debate whether or not
- 43:49Speaker 1: we needed to spend the money on that, but when
- 43:51Speaker 1: you're on it, it certainly is what would you rather?
- 43:54Speaker 1: What would you rather? They have spent the money on
- 43:58Speaker 1: public public schools? Of course? Health care? Health care? Yeah,
- 44:04Speaker 1: do you have if you were to, like, you know,
- 44:06Speaker 1: design a right on your own or if there is
- 44:07Speaker 1: there like a kind of entity where you were like,
- 44:10Speaker 1: I wish this was a ride? Have you thought about this?
- 44:13Speaker 1: You know? What I think they've gotten wrong every single
- 44:15Speaker 1: time is Fast and the Furious because they do that
- 44:19Speaker 1: stupid little bullshit in the studio tour where it's like
- 44:23Speaker 1: the screens are on either side or whatever. They in Orlando,
- 44:26Speaker 1: they made that a full attraction and it's so lame
- 44:29Speaker 1: and stupid. And I was like, if you have the
- 44:31Speaker 1: Fast and the Furious property, like make it a roller coaster.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Make it a racing roller coaster, you know what I mean? Like,
- 44:37Speaker 1: I've never seen a Fast and Furious movie, so I
- 44:39Speaker 1: don't know. But but if you, if you're universal and
- 44:41Speaker 1: you have that property, why are you making it a
- 44:44Speaker 1: simulated screen thing? I know, if they had to overhaul
- 44:48Speaker 1: dueling dragons, like you know, make it fasten. The fact,
- 44:51Speaker 1: I just feel like it's a waste of a property
- 44:54Speaker 1: because it's screaming out to be this like thing. And
- 44:57Speaker 1: it's also like definitely that company's biggest hit right now,
- 45:01Speaker 1: and I think like they messed it up in terms
- 45:03Speaker 1: of what they have. So I would say reimagining of
- 45:06Speaker 1: what fast Nefurious could be, and also I would bring
- 45:09Speaker 1: back Jaws and back to the future. I mean to
- 45:12Speaker 1: the Future was iconic. It was also is et does
- 45:16Speaker 1: that sound still there? Because he actually this is this
- 45:18Speaker 1: is the truth about ET. Steven Spielberg said he will
- 45:21Speaker 1: end his relationship with the company if they if they
- 45:23Speaker 1: demolished that ride, so they have to wait, they have
- 45:25Speaker 1: to wait until he dies. That is very queeny but
- 45:27Speaker 1: also a serve. Like there's a very iconic childhood photo
- 45:31Speaker 1: of me from the e T Ride. I don't really
- 45:33Speaker 1: like that movie though. It's kind of very and weird
- 45:36Speaker 1: for coming from my childhood. I just it's it's not
- 45:39Speaker 1: I don't know, it's kind of e T is kind
- 45:41Speaker 1: of grotesque. I don't remember attaching to this. I couldn't
- 45:44Speaker 1: give a funk about you two. Yeah, I don't care.
- 45:46Speaker 1: I'm yeah, I just I don't know. It wasn't for me.
- 45:49Speaker 1: But I'm sorry, sorry, but I but I I love
- 45:52Speaker 1: that for you, genuinely. Sorry, perturb Um. Okay, Matt, I
- 45:57Speaker 1: feel like, you know, obviously pre show isn't it is
- 46:00Speaker 1: you know, gonna happen for you. But I also Rose
- 46:03Speaker 1: and I were talking about how you would probably fit
- 46:06Speaker 1: really nicely into like the Disney cinematic universe, Like I
- 46:09Speaker 1: think that'll be any I mean, once they allow fast technically,
- 46:12Speaker 1: I am in Fire Island because you know, you know
- 46:15Speaker 1: that Disney like owns and pays for it. So it's
- 46:19Speaker 1: Searchlight and comes to Epcot Studios. I will be a
- 46:26Speaker 1: star of it. So wait, I will tell you this.
- 46:29Speaker 1: This is going to be a spoiler for the movie.
- 46:31Speaker 1: I think I think I am the first person in
- 46:36Speaker 1: the main cast of a Disney film to get fucked
- 46:39Speaker 1: in the ass on camera. Wowow that would be. And
- 46:43Speaker 1: that's that's a ride? Is that? Yeah? I was gonna say,
- 46:46Speaker 1: is that like the end of the ride here it's
- 46:49Speaker 1: Luke's Bottom Adventure. Love that? But I will say, like
- 46:53Speaker 1: I don't take that lightly, no, And I don't think
- 46:56Speaker 1: that that makes me a Disney pretty don't take it,
- 46:59Speaker 1: and I don't take it lately, but I do take
- 47:01Speaker 1: it bare back from behind in your bottom era of course.
- 47:07Speaker 1: Um Okay, wow, that's amazing. That is a bit of
- 47:10Speaker 1: a spoiler, but like you know, because I just won't
- 47:14Speaker 1: be happy, will be happy about I was thinking more
- 47:16Speaker 1: like a I could see you as like a gay
- 47:18Speaker 1: James Marsden and enchanted. Actually incredible and very very kind
- 47:22Speaker 1: of you to say, I really really want that. Yeah,
- 47:28Speaker 1: and I'm willing to sell my soul for I know
- 47:30Speaker 1: that I've got a little taste, like I'm actually here
- 47:32Speaker 1: to sell that. I think if that show Once upon
- 47:34Speaker 1: a Time was still on, like you would be on
- 47:36Speaker 1: it as like some a real life version of some
- 47:40Speaker 1: Disney prints. Do you ever look back at the cast
- 47:42Speaker 1: of that show? It's a gag, it's since because they're
- 47:45Speaker 1: all super famous now. Sebastian Stan played the Mad Hatter.
- 47:48Speaker 1: I did not know that, my everything, that's crazy. I
- 47:52Speaker 1: had no idea did you. Did you have like a
- 47:54Speaker 1: favorite Disney entity growing up or one that was really
- 47:56Speaker 1: formative to you as a kid. Well, when I was
- 47:58Speaker 1: really little, I was like obsessed with Little Mermaid and
- 48:03Speaker 1: that was kind of the one for me. But I
- 48:04Speaker 1: remember being absolutely terrified of Ursula because I think I
- 48:08Speaker 1: was scared of what was inside myself, which is a
- 48:10Speaker 1: drag queen. Yeah. Well, by the way, you guys know,
- 48:14Speaker 1: Crystal Kongman got from Real House was of Beverly Hills, obviously. Obviously,
- 48:18Speaker 1: so her husband Rob, I don't know if you know this,
- 48:21Speaker 1: but he actually drew the original prototype for what Ursula
- 48:25Speaker 1: was gonna look like because he wasn't he he had
- 48:28Speaker 1: a gay roommate and the gay roommate was like obsessed
- 48:32Speaker 1: with divine and obsessed with drag queens and like exposing
- 48:35Speaker 1: Rob to all this, and so they were having a
- 48:36Speaker 1: really hard time figuring out with the design of Ursula
- 48:39Speaker 1: was going to be. And originally she was supposed to
- 48:40Speaker 1: be more like a a smelt like Cruella de Ville type,
- 48:44Speaker 1: like like Bitch of the Seed that was the sequel
- 48:46Speaker 1: The Mermaid. A Little Mermaids sequel had the sister that
- 48:49Speaker 1: was kind of like that. Yeah, yeah right, and so
- 48:51Speaker 1: um I think also that that became what Vanessa was
- 48:53Speaker 1: like when she when she that little ditty, she's like
- 49:02Speaker 1: giving you a cunt. I don't even know how that
- 49:04Speaker 1: little Mermaid on the ocean will be stunning, incredible, my
- 49:09Speaker 1: favorite part of the whole movie. But basically, Rob Minkoff
- 49:13Speaker 1: drew the original designed for Ursela that they ended up using,
- 49:17Speaker 1: and so that's actually part of how he proved himself
- 49:20Speaker 1: to direct Lion King is because he essentially created Ursela
- 49:24Speaker 1: and he was the one that was like, we should
- 49:26Speaker 1: base it on Divine the drag Queen, and which informed
- 49:29Speaker 1: obviously the casting of Pat Carroll, and that's queer history. Absolutely.
- 49:33Speaker 1: I had heard. I knew that like Divine Origin, but
- 49:36Speaker 1: I didn't know was Rob specifically Minkoff. It was Rob Minkoff,
- 49:39Speaker 1: and now it's going to be Melissa McCarthy and I
- 49:42Speaker 1: kind of wish it. I kind of wish it was Gaga.
- 49:47Speaker 1: It absolutely should have been. Absolutely and I'm not taking
- 49:50Speaker 1: anything away from Meliss McCarthy, but I know because she
- 49:52Speaker 1: will she will, she will eat and tear. But I
- 49:56Speaker 1: do think I know how she'll do it. It's kind
- 49:59Speaker 1: of vious, and I think Gaga would have found a
- 50:01Speaker 1: really psychotic way in I've also heard her poor unfortunate Souls.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Oh are you that? Yeah? I really wish it like
- 50:15Speaker 1: we did that as a complete bit and now to
- 50:18Speaker 1: the point where like I could sort of see them
- 50:19Speaker 1: doing it, but then it would be a waste of
- 50:25Speaker 1: bow and like Moe probably should play like some bigger part.
- 50:27Speaker 1: But like I do think like it's it got to
- 50:29Speaker 1: the point where like our managers actually reached out and
- 50:32Speaker 1: asked and they told in the movie that's a missed opportunity.
- 50:38Speaker 1: I think that's a huge, big mistake. Huge. There's a
- 50:41Speaker 1: lot of like you know, Disney crannies that you could play.
- 50:43Speaker 1: There's like Pain and Panic and Hercules. There are, you know,
- 50:47Speaker 1: an assortment of henchman if you will. I was there
- 50:50Speaker 1: for a Hercules ride or moment. There is gonna be
- 50:53Speaker 1: a live action movie, which is shocking to me because
- 50:55Speaker 1: you just told me that the cartoon was like a
- 50:58Speaker 1: total flop, which I didn't want because it was my
- 51:00Speaker 1: I didn't know it was. Maybe this is just because
- 51:04Speaker 1: I'm gay, but like I never gravitated towards the Disney
- 51:08Speaker 1: movies that starred men male characters, like even Aladdin. Ah,
- 51:14Speaker 1: I can't. I couldn't really get into it, Like forget
- 51:16Speaker 1: about jungle Book, Like I wasn't into them. I was
- 51:20Speaker 1: actually I don't really remember this but apparently I was
- 51:23Speaker 1: super obsessed with Robin Hood. Well, Robin Hood is hot
- 51:27Speaker 1: and also iconic socialists, yes, the Bernie Sanders of his time.
- 51:33Speaker 1: I really loved Beauty and the beast that was. That
- 51:36Speaker 1: was kind of kind of my favor. I did love
- 51:38Speaker 1: Little Mermaid and Untouchable. When I was a kid, we
- 51:42Speaker 1: had a bunk bed and I used to poke my
- 51:44Speaker 1: head through the slats of the bunk bed and pretend
- 51:46Speaker 1: I was aerial looking out of the porthole of the boat. Um.
- 51:50Speaker 1: And I definitely played Mermaid a lot in the pool.
- 51:53Speaker 1: I put all the silver ware in our house like
- 51:57Speaker 1: it's a dingle hop right. I was like, no, that's
- 51:59Speaker 1: silver ware and we have to use it to eat,
- 52:01Speaker 1: So get it the funk out of your hair, you
- 52:02Speaker 1: fucking filth. I'm just waiting for some TikTok where someone's like,
- 52:05Speaker 1: hair hack, columb your hair with the fork, and it's like,
- 52:08Speaker 1: it's what's gonna happen? Um. My favorite was definitely Hercules
- 52:12Speaker 1: growing up. I actually feel like it was sexually formative
- 52:15Speaker 1: to me as well. You want to yes, well, and
- 52:19Speaker 1: you wanted to be Meg. Here's that. I wanted to
- 52:21Speaker 1: be Meg, period. No chance no. One of the best
- 52:25Speaker 1: songs in like the Disney in the Disney Songbook. Um,
- 52:27Speaker 1: I feel like, uh, young Herk and old Hirk are
- 52:31Speaker 1: kind of exactly my types, like my two different types,
- 52:34Speaker 1: just like you know, really teeny tiny, fragile twings and
- 52:37Speaker 1: then like men that are so big that they don't
- 52:40Speaker 1: care if I live or die. Hercules. Hercules is an
- 52:43Speaker 1: M to M trans man, Yes, M Tom love that. Yeah.
- 52:47Speaker 1: Actually yeah, nothing in between though, Like it's either huge
- 52:51Speaker 1: or like absolutely could Yeah, he was hitting the human
- 52:54Speaker 1: growth hormone a little too hard for sure. That's why
- 52:58Speaker 1: it's such a queer story, is that you Herk is
- 53:00Speaker 1: on t was on a roll. The only thing he
- 53:03Speaker 1: was on was rolling. I really do think that, Um,
- 53:10Speaker 1: I would actually, I'm just going to throw this out
- 53:11Speaker 1: there to Disney. I would sell my soul because they're listening, honey.
- 53:16Speaker 1: I would sell my soul to play Hercules. And I
- 53:18Speaker 1: feel as a Greek American I have I have claimed
- 53:21Speaker 1: to that the Kumon and Johnny body plan that they
- 53:23Speaker 1: would put you on, that would be that's worth like
- 53:26Speaker 1: thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars a month. Like
- 53:28Speaker 1: I'm willing to make it my whole year just getting
- 53:31Speaker 1: into shape for it. That would be my drink. I
- 53:34Speaker 1: can't go out. I'm getting into shape for herk no drinking.
- 53:37Speaker 1: I can't. I can't have a sip of that alcohol.
- 53:39Speaker 1: Every morning you wake up, you eat forty seven eggs,
- 53:43Speaker 1: raw eggs, like just like gust On, just like, oh
- 53:46Speaker 1: my god, I am. I am so upset that the
- 53:49Speaker 1: gast On TV show isn't happening, only because of Rita Aura.
- 53:52Speaker 1: I was looking contextualized this. Wait, wait, was it was
- 53:56Speaker 1: that green lit? And then now, yeah, I was never
- 53:58Speaker 1: heard it was so it was going to be it
- 54:00Speaker 1: was going to be a prequel starring Gaston and Lafu
- 54:03Speaker 1: about I guess maybe them being gay, and Rita Aura
- 54:06Speaker 1: was announced to be in it. She did a grid
- 54:09Speaker 1: post and then like a week later, Disney was like,
- 54:12Speaker 1: just kidding, this isn't happening, probably because of timing or whatever.
- 54:17Speaker 1: All the time like that. This is the difference between
- 54:19Speaker 1: Disney and like Universal is Disney will rocket their load
- 54:24Speaker 1: off being like here's everything that's happening in the next
- 54:26Speaker 1: ten years, and half of it won't happen, and Universal
- 54:31Speaker 1: will literally build an attraction without announcing it and then
- 54:35Speaker 1: when it's done, they'll be like coming soon this and
- 54:39Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, we've been seeing it. In fact,
- 54:41Speaker 1: when I went to Universal Um while they were building
- 54:44Speaker 1: the Veiloscopy coaster, I asked a ride like like a
- 54:49Speaker 1: person like working a food stand. I was like, when
- 54:51Speaker 1: is this opening? Because it wasn't announced, and she goes,
- 54:54Speaker 1: I actually don't know what you're talking about, and I
- 54:57Speaker 1: was and I was like, I was like, seriously, like
- 54:59Speaker 1: you can't tell me, like because because it's not announced.
- 55:02Speaker 1: She goes, I mean theoretically, like I don't even really
- 55:05Speaker 1: know what that is, but like maybe spring summer. And
- 55:08Speaker 1: then a little red laser pointer appeared on her forehead
- 55:13Speaker 1: and she was taken and I was like, mom, a
- 55:14Speaker 1: blink three times if you need hup. I didn't know
- 55:17Speaker 1: that there was like a Disney power over the Universals.
- 55:19Speaker 1: They are so in character at all times, like imagineers
- 55:24Speaker 1: love it. At the Pandora World, if you asked them
- 55:27Speaker 1: about the movie, they call it the documentary. At Star
- 55:31Speaker 1: Wars Galaxy's Edge, if you ask them about the Star
- 55:33Speaker 1: Wars movie, they call them the legends. By the way,
- 55:36Speaker 1: when when you do go on rise at the resistance,
- 55:39Speaker 1: the spoiler alert, they get captured by the like a
- 55:42Speaker 1: first order or whatever. I didn't want to know that,
- 55:45Speaker 1: just kidding. These theme park rights are full method. That
- 55:47Speaker 1: is like sky it's giving and then it's giving. Yeah. Um,
- 55:54Speaker 1: did you ever work with six Flags? Yeah, for sure
- 55:56Speaker 1: did because I grew up in the Midwest and we
- 55:58Speaker 1: would take like our class trips there. I remember this
- 56:01Speaker 1: the it was either a Superman roller coaster or a
- 56:03Speaker 1: Batman roller coaster that went truly like you go up
- 56:06Speaker 1: and then you go straight down. You're thinking of. It's
- 56:09Speaker 1: called the Chiller, and um it was in a Great Adventure.
- 56:13Speaker 1: Did you ever get a six Flags Great Adventure in
- 56:15Speaker 1: New Jersey? No? Maybe, So that's like the one that
- 56:18Speaker 1: I grew up around, and it had something called Batman
- 56:20Speaker 1: and Robin the Chiller, which is one red car in
- 56:23Speaker 1: one blue car, which sort of race and one of
- 56:24Speaker 1: them went up and down another one like did like
- 56:26Speaker 1: a flip. But six Flags, I mean that is the
- 56:29Speaker 1: roller coaster haven. Like, if you want to go get
- 56:31Speaker 1: absolutely tossed and turned, you go to six Flags, either
- 56:35Speaker 1: Magic Mountain or Great Adventure. That's West Coast, East Coast,
- 56:37Speaker 1: and then all the other ones are sort of like
- 56:39Speaker 1: second tier. Um, how much acid do you think like
- 56:42Speaker 1: the six Flags marketing exects did in order to invent
- 56:45Speaker 1: the six Flags Guy, because that was like absolutely a
- 56:50Speaker 1: moment in culture. I think he already I think he
- 56:53Speaker 1: already other commercial was the six Live commercial. I think
- 56:55Speaker 1: he already existed and six Flags was kind of built
- 56:58Speaker 1: around him. Yeah. Yeah, that makes more sense than them
- 57:02Speaker 1: coming up with him as a result of like, well
- 57:04Speaker 1: we have this part, who do we get to be
- 57:06Speaker 1: the face of it? He's like an immortal entity that
- 57:08Speaker 1: has existed since the dawn of time. And also that
- 57:10Speaker 1: insane song that Benga like they picked. I think it's
- 57:15Speaker 1: crazy because it is objectively the most annoying song in
- 57:19Speaker 1: the world. Yeah, it's also so fun. We were just
- 57:21Speaker 1: listening to it when we were in josh Are on
- 57:23Speaker 1: vacation last week by the pool, and it was kind
- 57:25Speaker 1: of the moment. It's hyper pop. It invented hyperpop. It did.
- 57:28Speaker 1: It is Charlie x X. There is no Charlie x
- 57:31Speaker 1: X without and that's actually a little culture. There is
- 57:35Speaker 1: no name. Probably Daddy. Have you seen Katie Katie Gavin
- 57:45Speaker 1: from Muna's um six Flags Guy costume for Halloween this year,
- 57:49Speaker 1: she and her sister who I think she's her sister
- 57:52Speaker 1: is younger, but like they look exactly the same. They
- 57:54Speaker 1: were both the six Flags guy with like you know,
- 57:57Speaker 1: I can see that that's for her, and it was
- 58:01Speaker 1: hunting chilling. They played the Thing Boy song at least
- 58:04Speaker 1: three times. I didn't spend a lot of time at
- 58:07Speaker 1: six Flags, but outside of going to Disney and Universal
- 58:10Speaker 1: a lot growing up, I spent a lot of time
- 58:11Speaker 1: at state fairs and Renaissance fairs. Yeah, that was less
- 58:16Speaker 1: my situation, but I definitely whenever there was like, um,
- 58:20Speaker 1: like an amusement park for a day, like they would
- 58:23Speaker 1: set it up in town, I was always like extremely
- 58:27Speaker 1: unconcerned about this with the safety. I was like, no,
- 58:29Speaker 1: no, no no, we're going and we're doing everything. That's great.
- 58:32Speaker 1: And now it's like you kind of get the sense
- 58:35Speaker 1: that accidents happened there all the time. It's like full
- 58:38Speaker 1: carniv Nightmare Alley Boots scarier than Nightmare. All we'll get
- 58:44Speaker 1: more deformed. You ever been in a dunk tank? You
- 58:50Speaker 1: know what? I've done a dunk tank. I've been dunked
- 58:54Speaker 1: and I would never do it again because, like I
- 58:58Speaker 1: genuinely feel like it's just like if it's like signing
- 59:00Speaker 1: up for an ear infection. Yeah, it's genuinely dangerous. It's like,
- 59:04Speaker 1: let me here, let me opt into something that will
- 59:07Speaker 1: be painful for me and potentially cause hearing loss. Yeah.
- 59:10Speaker 1: I don't want to do it again because I delve
- 59:11Speaker 1: the water is chlorinated and I know the second I'm
- 59:13Speaker 1: hitting the water, I'm pissing. Yeah, so of course I
- 59:17Speaker 1: almost everybody of water, so do I Frand wouldn't let
- 59:19Speaker 1: me pee in the pool at our Joshua? Why? I
- 59:22Speaker 1: I wasn't a cop about it, but I was like,
- 59:24Speaker 1: you know, the toilet is literally right there. You're going
- 59:27Speaker 1: to love it. Yeah, I mean, look, I I'm need
- 59:31Speaker 1: to drink piss consensually, but maybe not in a pool
- 59:34Speaker 1: of chlorinated water. It becomes the water. Yeah. What's your
- 59:38Speaker 1: favorite food to eat at a theme park? Because I
- 59:41Speaker 1: think food is a very important part of the experience.
- 59:43Speaker 1: Chicken fingers is a great answer. Chicken fingers on like
- 59:47Speaker 1: a basket of fried scenario. Absolutely, there really some buffalo
- 59:49Speaker 1: sauce and some barbecue. It's a good food to have
- 59:52Speaker 1: to be mobile. If you're walking around walking hold a basket. Yeah,
- 59:56Speaker 1: you can wait in line for a ride while eating
- 59:58Speaker 1: chicken fingers. I I love a turkey leg the same.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: But also the thing about the turkey leg is I
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: always think they're better in theory than practice because they
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: really are a mess. There's so much more of it
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: than you could ever imagine, and they're kind of like
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: stringy and like you have to do a lot of
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: teeth work, and there's no way to eat it sexy. No,
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: there's no way to eat it sexy. I think we
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: can try. I would actually surprised. Oh I I literally can.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: But wait. The thing about turkey is it has tripped
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: a fan you want and tired. I love that you
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: that Oh wow, you've been sending so much time around bow.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: You know your chemistry? Um, okay, b used to be
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: a chemistry major. He mean he not even used to be.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: He is and forever will best degree in chemistry. I
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: didn't even know he finished it. That's so funny. I
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: think he has like a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry,
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: though he has like he doesn't have like a Bachelor
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: of Sciences. He has a big fat as chemically. No,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: I think it's a true thing. Though I think he
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: has a b a. In chemistry, and I don't know how.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: I think that's because I don't know exactly how that works,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: but I'm almost positive that's what chemistry is an art
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: form if you think about it, I wonder what you
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: need to study to be an imagineer. I, well, it's
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: actually so much more engineering than you think, because that
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: makes sense. Well no, but literally, like I always thought,
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: like when I was a kid, because I would always
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: be on Real Question Tycoon and think I want to
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: do this for a living with and then you find
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: out exactly what it entails. And it's not like you
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: brainstorm and like, Okay, what can Cinderella get up to
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: in this theme? It's like it's not about co sign,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: tangent or whatever the fun. Yeah you are you actually
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: actually have you ever thought that you were going to
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: die on a ride? Because I have. I think I
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: was going to die, you know what. Okay, this iconically happened,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: um when I was on well, when I was on
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: X two at six Flags. That is the scariest ride
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: I've ever done. But I also I have been skydiving,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: so I've actually done things that have been close to death.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: But thematically I remember when Bowen Yang, Dave Mazzony and
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: I went the three of us to Disney World, like
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: probably five or six years ago. We Dave had made
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: these rice Crispy treats that were that had marijuana in them,
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: and they were I've never been more high in my life.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: And we were just truly like slobbering and making noise
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: the whole time, and we were having so much fun.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: But we got on the Tower of Terror and it
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: broke down halfway through, like right after we as as
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: canonically in the car had entered the Twilight Zone, and
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: so that's the scariest part where you could break down.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: And literally we were so high and just like sitting
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: there and like it's dark, and we had we had
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: committed so hard to the reality that literally someone like
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: we were sitting there for like five minutes and it
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: was full dark, and we're again in the Twilight Zone.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: So we're sitting there like literally baked, and someone just
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: comes in like enters the frame and we were like
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: excuse me, sir, and they were like, hey, so you
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: guys have to just get out of the car and
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: walk into the set and come down with us, And
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: like I was just like that's walk into the Twilight Zone.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: They were like, they were like, yeah, yes, we have
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: to walk into the pilots and like the Disney person
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: is still like half heartedly keeping it up and also
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: like come on bags, let's go, and so we were like,
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: oh my god, like as the girls coming again us,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: we seriously walked out, stepped off the set into literally
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: like an industrial looking elevator area and I was like,
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: oh fuck, like and they're like, yes, when I go again,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: and we're like, yeah, I guess. But then none. It
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: was forever ruined because you know, it's not really the
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Twilight The illusion was broken and broke my buzz. Maybe
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: a Taylor Swift will have a theme park, you know
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: someone actually someone on Twitter like made of tell us
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: sort of theme park. You've got to find it, and
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: they drew the whole map for it and described all
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: rise like based on all of her like songs, and
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: it was fucking great. It was so much fun. That
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: would have a market, I mean more so than Tyra
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: Banks Model Land, which was also supposed to happen, but
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: like that, I think like a tailor theme park. Was
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: that a casualty of the pandemic that that didn't happen. Well,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: I don't remember we talked about We talked about it
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: on a previous episode, but I don't think it was
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: a pandemic casualty. I think it was something that just
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: didn't happen, because it sounds insane. I mean you think
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: you think to yourself like, oh, she's a singer, she
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: can't have a theme park with them. But have you
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: been to Dollywood? Because so good I've heard. It's not
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: what you want to know, it's so fun. It's actually
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: it was so surprising because I went expecting like a
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: little rinky dink kind of state fair thing, and it
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: is a full on theme park. And my favorite ride
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: was there is a mining roller coaster that's like a
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: dark ride, and it was so fun, and the theme
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: park is huge and expansive. And I was there right
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: before Halloween, so it was all dressed for Halloween. And
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: I also met Dolly like three times. So I can't
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: believe you went to Pigeon Forge. Well, it was for
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: it was a it was a press thing. It was
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: for the junket for her Netflix show, So so it
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: was like we interview Dolly heart Strings day one. We
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: interviewed Dolly. Then the next day we got a full
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: free day at Dollywood, and then the next day was
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: the premiere of heart Strings, which was at Dollywood. That's amazing,
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: she an absolutely, She's so fun, so such a legend,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: so sweet. Clocked me immediately. It was great, love it. Wow.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: I mean we have to go at some point, we do.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: I've heard also that like the patrons of Dollywood are
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: like shockingly diverse, like you would kind of gore. Didn't that?
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Oh really, I heard that it's very very very like
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: giving red stake. That was not my experience. I mean
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: maybe it was because I was there with a bunch
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: of journalists, but like I did see plenty of patrons
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: who were, you know, like who seemed queer. Um. They
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: did give us all Dolly bucks to spend, which is
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: a currency that exists there, and we were able to
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: spend it on food, but I ended up not using
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: any of them, so I gave them to some very
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: nice gaze that I saw Dolly buck to like usd
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: like conversion. I think Dolly Dolly bucks are are better start.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: That's what a crypto also have. They have like and
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: they have like one of the world renowned best wooden
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: roller coasters, in the country. I went on, you love
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: love a rickety Racketty, I love a rickets And they
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: have a replica of Dolly's childhood home that might in
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: my Tennessee Mountain home. So cool that would actually make
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: me weep, and I'm not I say that with no physicians.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: It's like it's like the size of this studio and
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: right now, So that's really cool. I mean. Also, the
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: thing that's cool about her is like she completely supports
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: the ecosystem of that whole city that the park. So
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: she basically literally revolutionized her hometown with that and like
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: people their work and you know, revolutionized and radicalized. And
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: she told them all to read basically, I mean, she
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: has that literacy program. We're all going to Dollywood to
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: that code of Many Colors, more like city of many
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: employed people is going to take us straight to Dollar
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: is getting is driving off a bridge and you know it.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: If you do go to Orlando and you only have
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: a short amount of time, make it stay at the
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: Universal Orlando Resort because if you stay in a good
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: hotel there, you use your room key to get to
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: the frontal line on every ride. He doesn't for the
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: Virgin And is that no code Virgin and make sure
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: you tell that to all the ride off exactly what
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: you're talking. But if you stay at a hard Rock Hotel,
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: the Portofino Bay Hotel or the Royal Pacific Hotel, any
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: of those three, which are really good hotels, you get
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: to stay right on the resort and you're very close
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: to theme parks. And if you show them your room
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: key at the front of every single attraction, almost they
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: let you to the front of the line. And it's
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: only those three hotels or you just like those three, Wow,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: that really is a hack. Any other prescriptions for Universal
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: Lower six flags or anything like that. For versions Mary Walk,
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: you have to Mama, just don't look back back at
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Margarite of Ville City Walk. It's an absolute dream. And
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: joy I also would say, um, the Tooth Somems Chocolate Emporium,
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: that's very good for all my people that want sweet
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: and savory. Yeah, what's the candy store that's there. It's
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: sugar sugar that horrifies me. And then in the theme
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: park itself at Islands Adventure, there's a really cute restaurant
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: called Mythos, which is right next to which in the
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: Lost Continent area. Wait Poseidon's Adventure. It's open again. It's
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: open again. Shut that one down for years because of
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: the pandemic. It's so fun, although I wish it was
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: something that was you were moved through rather than having
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: to walk. You do have to walk through it, but
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: that that ride actually has like iconic acting. It does
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: and there's never a line. This is universal Yes Adventure,
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: Okay Aventure, Poseidon's Fury. Basically, it's a battle between the
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: Poseidon and his enemy. That's all I'll say. It's given
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: kind of like the universal version of the Haunted Mansion,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: but not as fun, and you have to walk through it. Okay.
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: Verdicts on the Haunted Mansion, Love Love Love, Pirates of
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: the Caribbean. This is my most controversial opinion. Parts of
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: the Caribbean is such an iconic flop to me, the ride,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: the ride. Do you hate the movie as well? I
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: can't stand. Oh, I'm not the ass fell asleep during
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: dead Man's Chest You this is actually you don't understand
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: how important Parts of the Caribbean is too, Rose like.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: I watch it once a quarter. I feel Here's what
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: I'll say. I like the like the first movie more
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: than I like the franchise. The first movie, I think, yeah,
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: it's all about Curse of the Black Pearl, right, so
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: that one I like, I can't stand the sequel and
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: the ride bores me to death. I love the ride.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: That's it's okay that we have a different opinion, even
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: even though we have established that I am the Rose
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: of Lost Cultures. But we're here. It's like in the multiverse,
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: it's like we can't and you will understand after you
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: see this movie. We we are at war, you know.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: I think there's probably a multiverse version of me that
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: stands part of the Caribbean. Probably probably think as in
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: every universe, I love it. Okay, Well do you know
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: that because I'm the Scarlet witche and well, you would
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: actually be America shop Is. I think if you have
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: the ability to go through universes. I'm so obsessed with Wanda.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: I loved one division so much. I don't want to
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: see her become the villain, or do I do? I
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: read really bad reviews and I didn't agree with them,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: and I walked out of the theater. Can I say
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: something about reviews? They're wrong all the time. They're wrong
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: all the time, like and now being in things that
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: are getting reviewed either reviews, and I'm just like, what
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: are you talking about? Like, and I'm just I feel
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: so stupid forever being like like sending a review to
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: like my group chat and be like, oh, I guess
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: this sucks. Like they're wrong all the time, and they're
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: wrong when they say things are good, and they're wrong
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: when they say things are bad. And you want to
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: know what it is. This is review culture. No one
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: wants to put out a review about most things, which
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: are yeah, this is fine, there's good things about it,
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: and there's bad things about it, because that won't go
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: viral online. Because viral online is this is the greatest
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: film of the year with a transformative performance by Lady Gaga,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: or this is the worst piece of should have all time.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: Lady got should go to jail like those two genders.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: But that's the binary. People don't realize that she should
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: be in jail for genius, for being If I said
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: she's too powerful, she is the scarlet. She has the
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: scarlet which all the which I do feel even stronger
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: about after seeing the whole my Hand music video, which,
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: as France said, is basically just a Charlie incarnate performance. Yeah,
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: it was like Charlie shipping her handed down. I really
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: think she should date Tom Cruise. I think they would
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: be such a power that makes no sense to me.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: I don't think she can date someone that insecure, do you?
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: What do you think? I mean? I saw that photo
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: of her kissing him on the cheek and she described
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: him as her good friend, and I was like, oh wow,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: this is officially the arrow. We're in, a Lady Gaga,
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: like full on Hollywood sell out, like kissing kissing this
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: like maniacal villain on the on the cheek. I'm going
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: to write fan fiction about them. I really believe in
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: their loves. Sure, I mean, if they were to start dating,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: it wouldn't be it wouldn't be out of left field
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: for me. No, we would feel a little bit like
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: an arranged It would feel like an industry blog. I
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: would feel arranged because nothing he ever does is as
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: arranged as Gee Flip and Crusie Stoles and selling Sunset.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: And I don't think that's arranged. No, I mean, I'm
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: just I did listen to hold my hand on the
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: way here, and I will listen to it on the
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: way home. So he is the thing. The first time
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: I listened to it, I was like, Oh, this sucks
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: and it's so first thought and it's like whatever. It
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: doesn't even feel like top Gun to me. It's like,
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: doesn't reference take my take my breath away. It's like
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: not giving me what I need. And I feel like
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: she just wrote a ballad for any movie. And also
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: I think she's like over singing it. But then I
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: listened to it a second time and I was like,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: this is kind of in the best song of all time.
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: It's like it's doing that to me where I'm just
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: really torn in both directions on whether or not it's
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: like acceptable, and I think I'm gonna love It's my
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: favorite Jo doing Born This Way drag and I love it.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: But don't you feel though, like sometimes like when I
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: heard Shallow for the first time, I was like, yeah,
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: no denying that, but that's the one, and I felt
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: like I hadn't heard anything like it before from her.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: It's like, hold my hand. I feel like it's like
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: a ballad that could have been on Born this Way.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: What I was telling Rose, I feel like it it
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: sounds like seven other songs that probably it probably was
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: something that was or she wrote it in five minutes
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: and like Top Guns, Original Labs, ad and that's all
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: it needs to do. Not no, I mean, but I
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: don't know. It's like I don't know what's been the
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: best movie song to come out lately. Shallow Literally that
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: was that to me is the most recent, Like I
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: can't think of another. I want to say, while we're
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: talking about Disney fucking justice for Into the Unknown? What
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: is that? It is a very good song, um, Adina,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: you know, a huge presence among us. Um. I think
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: it's great. It's no let It Go. I think it's
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: no let it Go. But also imagine knowing you had
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: to follow up Let it Go and you come even
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: that close and you're Adina, who's already your whole career
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: is about following up the iconic thing that you just did. Um.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: I do think Show Yourself is a better song than
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: Into the Unknown. You know what. Show Yourself actually surprised
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: me because I was like, Wow, this like dropped in
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: more introspective moment and there's the yeah, the moment with
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: the mom then it's like where she realizes she's really good.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: But I will say, just like that line Into the
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Unknown where she says, um, don't you know this part
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: of me that longs to go into the not I
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: was just like, lungs to go there's part of me
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: that longs to go into the unknown. I was like
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: the lyrics, you know, is there a Frozen ride? Yes,
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: it's an epcot. Okay, it used to be Maelstrom the
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: ride there in the Norway Pavilion with the trolls. They
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: have now turned that into Frozen ever After Rosen never After,
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: sort of a riff off of Carrie Underwood's ever ever
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: After from Enchanted and got it ever ever After from Enchanted.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: That was a moment, as it was the music video
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: where she's walking down the street, the iconic key change
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: in the second chorus ever ever And it's not smart.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: It's weird how we culturally forgot about like enchanted. I
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: didn't just enchanted coming honey. I remember watching Amy Adams
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: performance like at the Oscars that You're and being like,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: who is that was so brave. First of all, two songs,
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: two or three songs nominated from Enchanted that You're at
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: the Oscars. There's the one so Close and yes, that
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: one that that guy sings. Kristin Chenowith came in. They
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: gave her a whole fucking fanfare. They lifted around on
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: a chair. How does she know that whole thing? Then
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: Amy Adams, I said to do happy working song. You're
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: going out there cold by yourself nothing, and like barely
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: she she committed to that and did it, and I
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: was like, left her for dead. That had to be
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: so hard. No, so at the time, she was like,
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: she had an Oscar nomination from June Bug, but she
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: wasn't like a big star. I didn't know she had
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: a nomen by that point, but I had never heard
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: of her. Remember june Bug performance booked her enchanted, no way,
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: that's crazy, but it makes complete sense, honestly, and it
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: was a It was a true like theater kid performance,
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: Like it reminded me of wind God. I did the
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: Sound of Music moment, one of the I think most
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: important moments in her career. Oscar performance. It totally re
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: contextualized Lady Gaga and made her into someone that people
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: took seriously. After she had done American Horror Story. She's like,
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: it's it's post art pop when she was like kind
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: of flopping and that Oscar's performance is why we have
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: pulled my hands. Fat, nasty and Broke, I would came
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: on this bench as hell. You know what's funny, It's
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: like both Gaga and Beyonce really tried the Oscars thing.
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: Remember that year when Beyonce performed like all the nominated
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: songs with Hugh Jackman, right, or was that when he
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: was Josh Growben sang with her once and then she
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: did the song in French, and then she sang Learned
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: to Be Lonely from Phantom of the Opera, which was
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: a mini driver song from the movie, and they were like,
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: maybe you're not because she famously did not sing in
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: the movie. She did do that original song, she just
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: wasn't in the movie. Well like you dare school on
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: Fantom of the Opera in my house. Well no, Beyonce
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: was like very much at the Oscars for several years
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: in a row. She had a residency. She was like
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: was her Vegas resident. She was giving Oscar's performer there
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: for a while. And then obviously Listen was nominated. She
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: did the whole dream Worls thing, etcetera. But Gaga to
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: like worked the Oscars because people forget she probably should
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: have won an Oscar for until it Happens to you
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: And now that should have been Diane Warren's Oscar Wimen
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: and now the people that have residencies is like it's
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: like her. You know the music artist her, She's played
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, she as as Hunter Harris of Ladies and
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: Gentlemen she by. You can follow our Instagram at Like
