- 1:36Welcome, everyone, to Inspirations for Your Life.
- 1:38I am your host, John C.
- 1:40Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 1:45podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, and
- 1:48a passionate lifelong learner.
- 1:49And yes, pretty soon to be, yes, a
- 1:52published author.
- 1:53Really excited about that.
- 1:54My book is in the works as we
- 1:57speak.
- 1:57I'm actually just working on Chapter 6 right
- 2:00now.
- 2:00It's probably going to be somewhere around 12
- 2:02to 15 chapters.
- 2:03So just kind of giving you a little
- 2:05bit of what's going on with the book.
- 2:07And, yeah, it's moving along.
- 2:09So we're going to be done a lot
- 2:11earlier than I expected.
- 2:12I'm not going to tell you what's in
- 2:13the book.
- 2:13That's for you to find out later on.
- 2:15But I do want to keep you abreast
- 2:17of what's going on with the book.
- 2:19So today's episode is titled Thoughts Mastering Direction.
- 2:24Our thoughts are the foundation of our reality.
- 2:26In this episode, I'm going to explore how
- 2:28attention, focus, and mental discipline shape your outcomes,
- 2:32your energy, and your daily life.
- 2:34By mastering your thoughts, you can gain clarity,
- 2:37momentum, and freedom from reactive patterns.
- 2:40I've talked about this before.
- 2:41It's better to be proactive than reactive, right?
- 2:44Reactive is when we have to redo everything.
- 2:47And it's not a good thing to be
- 2:49reactive.
- 2:51It causes a lot of stress in people's
- 2:53lives.
- 2:55And that's the main thing that I want
- 2:56to share with you.
- 2:57So we have to understand that.
- 2:59I think that's an important thing to understand.
- 3:03All right, guys.
- 3:04So power of thought.
- 3:08Number one, thoughts shape outcomes.
- 3:11What you consistently think will determine your actions
- 3:13and your results.
- 3:15Neville Goddard said this, and Nightingale Conant.
- 3:19We become what we think about most often.
- 3:21Now, if you don't like where you are
- 3:22right now, we'll change your thoughts, and then
- 3:24you will change.
- 3:25All right.
- 3:26Number two, guys, attention directs action.
- 3:30Where your focus goes, your energy flows.
- 3:32I've said this before many times.
- 3:34It's been proven with science.
- 3:36But you can't just do it one time.
- 3:39So that's an important thing to understand.
- 3:43Number three, guys, mental discipline creates clarity.
- 3:48Training the mind, reducing confusion, and enhancing your
- 3:52decisions that you make.
- 3:53Because when we are calmer, we're able to
- 3:56be in a state where we can do
- 4:00things that we couldn't do before.
- 4:03So that's a very, very important thing to
- 4:07definitely understand.
- 4:09And I hope that you guys will appreciate
- 4:11that.
- 4:11Number four, guys, thoughts become habits.
- 4:15Repeated mental patterns hardwire behavior over time.
- 4:19So, again, it doesn't happen in a split
- 4:22instant.
- 4:23It happens over time.
- 4:25Your nervous system kind of adapts to that.
- 4:29Number five, focus builds momentum.
- 4:34Concentrated efforts leads to compounding progress.
- 4:39So kind of like the way interest compounds
- 4:41in the bank, so does our interest in
- 4:44our thoughts and our actions compound in actual
- 4:49real life.
- 4:50All right?
- 4:51That's important to understand.
- 4:53Number six, guys, mental order reduces anxiety.
- 4:57Organizing your thinking brings a calmness and a
- 5:00stability to your life and also to those
- 5:03that are, well, around you.
- 5:05So I think that's an important thing to
- 5:06be aware of and be concerned about.
- 5:10There's a part of my book.
- 5:11I'm not going to go into it now.
- 5:12I have a whole chapter where I talk
- 5:13about awareness, and it's a really cool chapter.
- 5:15I actually just finished it not too long
- 5:17ago.
- 5:18And so it's a really good book, but
- 5:20the book is about two major things that
- 5:23happened in my life that actually transformed me
- 5:26and got me to, I'll say, wake up
- 5:28and change the way I decided to be
- 5:31living.
- 5:32Number seven, guys, thought, awareness builds control.
- 5:38Noticing patterns gives you power over reaction.
- 5:42Noticing, and I talk a lot about that
- 5:44in my book, when we notice something, we
- 5:46are definitely going to be not only just
- 5:49aware of it, but we'll also be able
- 5:54to tune into it, the frequency of it,
- 5:59the kinds of responses.
- 6:00When we're just not in the moment, we're
- 6:05going to miss what that's about.
- 6:07If you're at a ballgame, for example, and
- 6:10you're actually at the ballgame, it's different than
- 6:12me telling you about the ballgame or you
- 6:14quickly watching it on TV.
- 6:15It's not the same as being there, having
- 6:17the popcorn.
- 6:17Maybe some people have beer.
- 6:19Maybe you'll have your soda or have my
- 6:20water or your Ballpark Frank or whatever it
- 6:23is, your ice cream or even your peanuts
- 6:27or whatever else they sell there.
- 6:30Number eight, clarity begins in the mind.
- 6:35Understanding internally leads to effective external action.
- 6:40So when we have clarity in our mind,
- 6:44it's like we get this jolt that we
- 6:47can do things that we didn't do before
- 6:50in our life.
- 6:51So that's an important thing.
- 6:57Understand this, number nine, reframing reduces resistance and
- 7:02changing perspectives solve problems faster.
- 7:06You know, a subtle shift, which I talk
- 7:08about a lot in my book, subtle shifts
- 7:11become monumental over time.
- 7:14They're not monumental when you first start the
- 7:18shift.
- 7:18You're like, oh, this isn't even anything.
- 7:19It's like I didn't even turn the dial
- 7:21like a tiny bit.
- 7:23But each day you progress a little more.
- 7:26Number 10, guys, focus sharpens decisions.
- 7:29Clarity leads to better, faster choices.
- 7:33And I think that's something that a lot
- 7:34of people don't realize is that when we
- 7:38are emotionally connected as well as physically connected,
- 7:41then we can make faster choices.
- 7:45Not, let's say, choices that are rushed, but
- 7:49choices that are more in alignment with our
- 7:50core values.
- 7:52Part two of this talks about emotional and
- 7:55cognitive benefits.
- 7:56And that would be 11.
- 7:57Mental hygiene boosts performance.
- 8:01Clean thinking prevents distraction and also fatigue, right?
- 8:04That's important to understand.
- 8:06Number 12, thoughts set emotional tone.
- 8:09Your mindset influences your mood and, guys, your
- 8:12interactions.
- 8:13Yeah, your interactions with life.
- 8:15Number 13, focus eliminates noise.
- 8:19Concentrate attention filters out distraction.
- 8:23Concentrate it.
- 8:24So that's not, well, you know, I'm going
- 8:26to concentrate for a minute.
- 8:27That's me intentionally focusing and, you know, having
- 8:34that belief that I'm going to be that.
- 8:39So, for example, let's say, I'll give you
- 8:42a perfect example.
- 8:43Let's say there was a bee flying around,
- 8:45which you've probably seen bees many times.
- 8:47And let's say I want to get the
- 8:48perspective of the bee.
- 8:51I can imagine that I am the bee,
- 8:54or maybe that I am sitting on top
- 8:57of the bee with my chair and a
- 8:59nice, cool drink and kind of strapped in
- 9:04there while he flies around, knowing it's probably
- 9:11a little bit bumpy, and my drink keeps
- 9:13moving around, but also enjoying the breeze and
- 9:16then also really taking note of all the
- 9:18work that he does for the queen bee.
- 9:21So you can kind of get a perspective
- 9:22just by me saying to be aware of
- 9:25something.
- 9:26And the more that we practice this, the
- 9:29more that it happens.
- 9:30Let me give you another awareness.
- 9:32I've got a stapler on my desk.
- 9:33It's an automated stapler.
- 9:35And I can become aware right now that
- 9:39I'm literally inside that stapler.
- 9:42I'm on the side.
- 9:44I'm not near any danger parts.
- 9:45I'm watching it from the side.
- 9:47And I literally can see, as the paper's
- 9:49going in, and I can see how the
- 9:53sensor causes the little arm to just jet
- 9:56the little staple down.
- 9:59See, when we choose to become aware of
- 10:01something, we can become aware of anything.
- 10:02We can become a fly on the wall.
- 10:04We can be anywhere we want.
- 10:05But when we change our perspective, our answers
- 10:10change.
- 10:11Our questions change.
- 10:13Our life changes.
- 10:15Number 14, guys, clarity increases confidence.
- 10:19Knowing your mind is organized builds self-trust.
- 10:23Yes, it builds self-trust.
- 10:26And that's something that I think a lot
- 10:28of people don't recognize, that it builds self
- 10:32-trust.
- 10:35Okay?
- 10:39That's important.
- 10:48And I think that can make sense when
- 10:52we choose to be intentful.
- 10:55Number 15, thoughts shape identity.
- 10:58The mental patterns you nurture define who you
- 11:00become.
- 11:05This happens in the patterns that we create.
- 11:07Number 16, attention builds discipline.
- 11:11Okay?
- 11:12Attention builds discipline.
- 11:19And directing energy consistently strengthens the self-control
- 11:22for which we have.
- 11:25And that's another awareness trigger, isn't it?
- 11:28We're being aware of how something is affecting
- 11:31us or maybe not affecting us.
- 11:34Okay?
- 11:36Very, very important.
- 11:39Very, very important to understand.
- 11:44And I will tell you that it's important
- 11:49to understand this.
- 11:51Okay?
- 11:52It's important to know what's actually going on
- 11:56and why things are going on.
- 11:59Number 17, clear thinking reduces stress.
- 12:03Structured thought prevents overwhelmness.
- 12:07That may not be an easy thing to
- 12:09grasp, but the more that you become aware,
- 12:12the more that you sense things around you,
- 12:14the more you're going to be like, wait
- 12:15a minute, this actually makes sense for me.
- 12:19Okay?
- 12:19It makes sense.
- 12:22Number 18, mindfulness improves accuracy.
- 12:26Observing your mind improves decision-making.
- 12:29Let me say that again.
- 12:31Mindfulness improves the accuracy for which we will
- 12:33have.
- 12:34Observing your mind improves the decision-making.
- 12:37So mindfulness, accuracy.
- 12:40Okay?
- 12:42And when we observe our mind, it improves
- 12:48the decision-making.
- 12:51So one is how accurate our decisions are,
- 12:53and the other is what decisions we're actually
- 12:55making.
- 12:55You know, so many thoughts go in and
- 12:58out of our head every single day, and
- 13:00we don't pay a lot of attention to
- 13:02them, which is okay.
- 13:04But it's important to notice the ones that
- 13:07are going to have a great impact on
- 13:08our life, that are going to help us
- 13:09become that success.
- 13:12Okay?
- 13:14Number 19.
- 13:17Number 19 is thought control creates calm mastering.
- 13:23Mental patterns reduces impulsivity.
- 13:26So calm is the mastering, and mental mastering,
- 13:31okay, allows us to take those patterns and
- 13:38reduce impulsivity.
- 13:42Impulsivity happens because maybe you're impatient.
- 13:47It can happen for lots of different reasons.
- 13:50But one thing it doesn't do, you have
- 13:57to understand why things are a certain way.
- 14:00And if we don't bother to ask the
- 14:02why question, we're always going to be like,
- 14:05oh, my gosh, why did that work that
- 14:08way?
- 14:08Why did that have that outcome?
- 14:11If you don't care, then you're going to
- 14:14miss that potential of learning in your life.
- 14:21Okay?
- 14:21You're going to miss that potential of learning
- 14:24in your life.
- 14:27And maybe you're going to say to me,
- 14:28John, well, you know, I'll get it next
- 14:30time around.
- 14:31Well, I got to tell you something.
- 14:33All opportunity doesn't knock twice.
- 14:43All opportunity does not knock twice.
- 14:52And I say that because a lot of
- 14:54us are like, oh, you know what?
- 14:54I can't answer the door right now, or
- 14:56I can't get, you know, the opportunity right
- 14:59now.
- 14:59I'm busy.
- 14:59Well, opportunity, when it calls, there's no call
- 15:05waiting.
- 15:07And opportunity doesn't leave a voicemail.
- 15:09So have you missed it?
- 15:10Well, unfortunately, you may not see it again.
- 15:14You may, but don't count on seeing it
- 15:16again because you may not.
- 15:18Number 20, focus directs your energy.
- 15:21And concentrate attention leads to effective action.
- 15:27Concentrate.
- 15:28That's the stuff that, you know, we're doing
- 15:30conscientiously.
- 15:33Okay?
- 15:37That's important to know.
- 15:39Very, very important to know.
- 15:45Okay?
- 15:48That's important to understand.
- 15:50Part three is alignment and momentum of this
- 15:53today.
- 15:54Number 21, mental clarity improves follow-through.
- 16:01Knowing your path ensures action.
- 16:06When we know what to do, we just
- 16:09do it, don't we?
- 16:10We don't wait.
- 16:11We don't second guess ourselves saying, oh, my
- 16:12gosh, what am I going to do?
- 16:17We do not second guess ourselves.
- 16:18We just move on.
- 16:20Okay?
- 16:21We just move on.
- 16:28We just continue to move on every single
- 16:32day of our life.
- 16:34And that's the importance that I think a
- 16:37lot of people miss is that we have
- 16:39to be aware of what's going on in
- 16:42our life and in our environment.
- 16:44Not so much what other people are doing,
- 16:47but aware of how we interface, how our
- 16:51actions, how our thoughts are positively or negatively
- 16:56affecting other people.
- 16:58And if they're negatively affecting other people, we
- 17:01should change them.
- 17:02Because when we're more in harmony, people want
- 17:06to work with us.
- 17:07Number 22, guys, awareness reduces rumination.
- 17:11Noticing thoughts prevents endless overthinking.
- 17:14Just noticing the thoughts, that's all you have
- 17:16to do.
- 17:17Number 23, clear thinking creates peace.
- 17:21Mental organization reduces internal conflict.
- 17:26So the more organized we are inside our
- 17:27brain, the less likely we are to have
- 17:31conflict.
- 17:34That's pretty priceless, guys.
- 17:38Conflict happens because of confusion.
- 17:43Conflict happens because of overexerted egos from other
- 17:48people.
- 17:50Conflict happens because other people don't respect your
- 17:59viewpoint.
- 18:01And again, that's all about the ego, isn't
- 18:02it?
- 18:03All about the ego.
- 18:03Number 24, guys, thoughts determine the pace.
- 18:09Controlling your mind controls the speed of the
- 18:12progress.
- 18:13So you have the ability to affect the
- 18:15potentiometer, to affect the speed, whether you're at
- 18:17zero, whether you're at a million.
- 18:18You have the ability to control that gas
- 18:22pedal, right?
- 18:24But most people don't think they do.
- 18:26They think they just have on or off.
- 18:28You can control how much intensity you give
- 18:30it and how much you take away from
- 18:33it.
- 18:33That's a very, very priceless statement.
- 18:37Number 25, focus builds momentum.
- 18:41Concentrated action compounds results quickly, like the money
- 18:46in your stock account or your bank.
- 18:49When it compounds, our life changes majorly, okay?
- 19:01That's important to know.
- 19:11You have to understand that.
- 19:23And if you understand that, you're more than
- 19:2780% the way.
- 19:29Because understanding and knowledge is the first component
- 19:35to being able to make a difference.
- 19:37If we don't know where we're going, we're
- 19:39never going to get there, ever.
- 19:42Number 26, guys, mental alignment creates flow.
- 19:49Harmony in thought accelerates performance.
- 19:51So if we're in harmony with ourselves and
- 19:55with others, we're going to flow like a
- 19:59beautiful river or stream right down.
- 20:02Flows don't go up, guys.
- 20:04They go down.
- 20:05If we try to make a flow go
- 20:07up, you know what happens?
- 20:08It becomes extremely stressful, very stressful, stressful.
- 20:21And maybe you're saying to me, John, like,
- 20:23you know, maybe you don't get, like, why
- 20:34that actually is.
- 20:36Maybe you don't get that, okay?
- 20:41And I'm going to tell you it's not
- 20:43from what you think it is.
- 20:54It's not from what you think it is.
- 21:01I know that a lot of you out
- 21:03there are saying to me, John, this doesn't
- 21:05apply to me.
- 21:07Well, if it doesn't apply to you, I
- 21:09got to tell you something.
- 21:11It probably does.
- 21:12It's just, you're not being aware of what's
- 21:15around you at the current moment.
- 21:17Number 27, guys, thought.
- 21:20Thought discipline builds strength.
- 21:22But many people give up.
- 21:24They just take the first thought and they
- 21:25run with it.
- 21:28Repeated practice, guys, strengthens mental resilience.
- 21:31Repeated practice.
- 21:32You want to be a good ballplayer?
- 21:35You keep practicing pitching.
- 21:37You keep practice hitting.
- 21:38You keep practice running the bases, right?
- 21:41You want to be a good musician?
- 21:44You practice every day.
- 21:46You learn the instrument you're wanting to play.
- 21:51Piano being a pianist, trumpet, trumpetist, you know,
- 21:56drum, whatever it is, percussionist, you practice that.
- 22:00You make that, like, the air you breathe.
- 22:05Number 28, guys, focus replaces confusion.
- 22:08Consistent attention eliminates uncertainty.
- 22:10Consistent.
- 22:12I didn't say attention for one day.
- 22:14I said consistent attention.
- 22:53That's a key, guys.
- 22:56Consistency is the key to everything in life.
- 22:59But will you be consistent just for one
- 23:02day?
- 23:02One week?
- 23:04One month and then just stop?
- 23:07Because, see, once you stop, then you start
- 23:11reprogramming yourself to now be that way, which
- 23:16isn't good.
- 23:18Number 29, mental clarity creates direction and clear
- 23:21thinking identifies the priorities and the next steps.
- 23:23So let me say that again.
- 23:24Mental clarity creates the direction, knowing where you
- 23:26want to go, but the clear thinking identifies
- 23:29the priorities and the next steps that you
- 23:31need to be taking.
- 23:35That's key, guys.
- 23:36Number 30, thought mastery equals freedom.
- 23:40Control your mind and you control your life.
- 23:44Control your mind and you control your life.
- 23:50That sounds like such an easy thing, but
- 23:52why is it people don't do it?
- 23:56Oh, they get stuck in their ways.
- 23:58They don't necessarily want to be someone who
- 24:03is first.
- 24:05They're afraid it might be different, right?
- 24:09It might be different to what they're expecting,
- 24:13okay?
- 24:14And by being different, they don't know if
- 24:17they're going to like it.
- 24:19That's an important thing.
- 24:21So we need to reflect a moment here,
- 24:23guys.
- 24:24Mastering your thoughts isn't about perfection, although a
- 24:30lot of people out there think it is.
- 24:32You don't have to have perfect thoughts.
- 24:34It's about the awareness that you have and
- 24:38the practice and the consistency for which you
- 24:41have these thoughts.
- 24:43They don't have to be perfect.
- 24:45You're like, oh, I don't have perfect thoughts.
- 24:47I don't care if you have perfect thoughts.
- 24:49I care that you have consistent thoughts.
- 24:52If you have consistent thoughts, that's the key.
- 24:59Consistency breeds more competence.
- 25:03Practice and consistency, they go together for competence.
- 25:08Every thought that you choose to nurture, every
- 25:12moment of focus that you have, builds momentum
- 25:17toward your goals, not anybody else's, toward your
- 25:20goals, okay?
- 25:25That's an important thing to understand.
- 25:28By observing, directing, and disciplining your mind, you
- 25:34gain what we call clarity.
- 25:37You reduce stress, and you create intentional outcomes.
- 25:42Intentional outcomes, things that are aligned with your
- 25:47core value and who you are as a
- 25:49person.
- 25:50No one should be telling you what your
- 25:52core values are.
- 25:53You need to figure out what they are.
- 25:55Your core values are very similar to, let's
- 25:58say, a company that might have a mission
- 26:00statement, right?
- 26:02A little bit different there, because the directors,
- 26:06the company, they come together with, what should
- 26:07our mission be?
- 26:09You're just you, and you need to figure
- 26:12out what you want to be.
- 26:13Nobody needs to tell you what you want
- 26:15to be.
- 26:15You need to figure that out yourself.
- 26:18Remember, ladies and gentlemen, freedom and direction, they
- 26:23start inside.
- 26:25They don't start outside the body.
- 26:26They start inside the body.
- 26:30The mind is the foundation of all action.
- 26:33The mind is the foundation of all action.
- 26:37And if you choose to be mastering it,
- 26:41you know what you're going to do, guys?
- 26:43You're going to master your life.
- 26:45If you choose to master it, what's inside
- 26:49you, you will master your life.
- 26:50Now, again, I don't want you to be
- 26:51discouraged and say, John, I've been doing this
- 26:53for a while, and it's not working.
- 26:56Well, people do it years, and it doesn't
- 26:58work for them.
- 27:00You probably need more practice.
- 27:03The real reason it's not working for you
- 27:04is you have not been intentional with your
- 27:08thoughts.
- 27:09Your core values might just be something you
- 27:11got from somebody else, but they don't align
- 27:12with who you are.
