Speaker 1: So let's jump into this article from the New York
0:02
Times today. And it's a bit of a lengthy article,
0:05
So kick back, get yourself a nice cold beverage, whatever
0:08
it may be. Headline Jeffrey Epstein's mystery bank came alive
0:12
after his death. Southern Country International received millions of dollars
0:16
from mister Epstein's estate in December. And when you click
0:20
on the link for the New York Times article, and
0:24
I don't know if it's behind a paywall right now.
0:26
I don't pay for the New York Times, so I'm
0:28
able to view this article right now. I don't know
0:30
if it's you got a certain amount of freebies a
0:32
month or whatever that may be. But anyway, right now,
0:35
it's not behind a paywall. So you can click on
0:38
the link and you can check it out. And there's
0:41
a certificate Virgin Islands Banking Board, Certificate of licensure. That's
0:46
the first thing you'll see. And it's about Jeffrey Epstein's bank.
0:49
So let's hop into the article and see what they
0:51
have to say about it. This article was written by
0:54
Matthew Goldstein and Steve Eder February fourth, twenty twenty. In
1:00
the years after Jeffrey Epstein registered as a sex offender,
1:03
he closed his money He closed his money management firm
1:06
and started a business to develop algorithms and mind DNA
1:09
and financial databases. Then he set up a bank. In
1:13
a banking license application reviewed by The New York Times,
1:16
mister Epstein described himself as one of the investing world's
1:19
pioneers and said he wanted to pursue the dynamic discipline
1:23
of international banking. Really, come on, you know what he
1:29
really means by that? Okay, translation, I want to be
1:33
involved in banking even more so I can siphon off
1:35
more money, launder more money, and commit even more evil deeds.
1:39
That's basically what he's saying. Officials in the Virgin Islands,
1:43
the United States territory where mister Epstein set up most
1:46
of his businesses, approved a license for him in twenty
1:49
fourteen to run one of the territory's first international banking entities,
1:54
a specialized bank that can do business only with offshore clients.
1:58
The approval was on you, given mister Epstein's status as
2:02
a convicted sex offender. See isn't that nice? Remember what
2:05
I was telling you guys about the Virgin Islands For
2:07
the last I don't know two weeks now about how
2:09
they're trying to get it on both ends of the deal, right.
2:11
They wet their beak in the original Jeffrey Epstein, you know,
2:16
Reign of Terror, when they were looking the other way,
2:18
and now they want to flip it and they want
2:20
a little piece on the back end as well. So again,
2:24
let's not let's not make pretend that the Virgin Islands
2:27
or Denise George or any of these people that are
2:29
involved in this, in this this skullduggery down there, really
2:32
care about the survivors, folks, because they do not. Okay,
2:35
if they did, If they did, what they would do
2:38
is just make sure that these people weren't spending any
2:41
more money on any sort of stupid upkeeper or anything,
2:44
and make sure all of that money gets frozen and
2:47
at at the proper time it gets distributed to those who, uh,
2:53
those who are deemed to be deserving of it. So
2:56
that would be every single one of these girls that
2:58
has come forward in my opinion. Okay, the Bank Southern
3:02
Country International renewed its license for each of the next
3:05
five years, but it's unclear whether it conducted any business
3:09
or had any customers. Mister Epstein, who died while in
3:12
federal custody last summer following his arrest on sex trafficking charges,
3:16
does not appear to have done any marketing for the
3:19
bank or hired much staff. Of course he didn't. Okay,
3:24
it was a front. This was a front company. No
3:26
different than sayah mafia don has a pizza shop. It's
3:30
the same thing. Another way to clean his money, launder
3:33
his money. Now, what's next, a car wash like Eisenberg?
3:38
I mean, come on, it's so transparent what he was
3:41
doing and what all of his friends do all the time.
3:45
The bank was created under a territorial law that lacked
3:48
many of the oversight requirements banks are usually subject to,
3:52
and its regulatory file is largely empty. A lawyer from
3:56
mister Epstein told officials in the Virgin Islands in twenty
3:59
eighteen that Southern Country had not commenced operations, and regulators
4:03
in the territory said they did not exercise oversight of
4:06
the bank because it did not appear to be doing
4:09
any business. I find that hard to believe. I not
4:11
that there weren't doing any business, but that the officials
4:14
weren't exercising oversight because it wasn't doing any business, more
4:19
like they got paid off folks. Do I have any
4:21
evidence of that? Of course I do not. But we
4:23
all know that drifting like that is the oldest game
4:26
in the book for these people. Since even before Tammany Hall,
4:30
that's been going on here in America. So if you
4:32
don't think it's happening down in the Virgin Islands, think again.
4:37
And yet, after mister Epstein's death, his estate transferred more
4:41
than twelve million dollars to Southern Country, according to court documents.
4:46
On Tuesday, at a court hearing in the Virgin Islands
4:48
on motions involving mister Epstein's estate, a magistrate, Judge Carolyn
4:53
Herman Purcell questioned the estate's lawyers about the transfers to
4:57
Southern Country, saying the disclosure was not said satisfactory. The
5:01
judge said she did she did not know why Southern
5:04
Country would be receiving checks from the estate. There's no
5:07
explanation for it, she said, h yeah, there's an explanation
5:11
for it. They're laundering money. They're putting the money there
5:14
so they can hide it so that they don't have
5:16
to give it to the people who deserve it. Okay,
5:20
and that's what it's all about. That's what these people
5:21
do all the time. That's their stick, folks. They're going
5:25
to make sure that they don't have to pay out
5:28
anything if they can help it, all right, that's they
5:30
don't want to pay out anything. A lawyer for the
5:34
estate responded that some of the payment had been made
5:36
in error, but the judge was not satisfied with his
5:39
response and asked him to follow up with a fuller
5:42
accounting the checks listed in the estates. Transactions for routine
5:46
routine payments such as cable, TV bills and phone service
5:49
from mister Epstein's many properties stand out. The list of
5:52
payments were filed with Judge Herman Purcell, who is overseeing
5:56
his six hundred and thirty five million dollar estate, including
5:59
the possible establishment of compensation fund for his victims. Again, folks,
6:04
why why did his properties still need cable? Why do
6:08
they need TV, cable bill and phone service? There should
6:12
be nobody in those properties. They should be seized, they
6:14
should be closed, and they should be taped up. Okay,
6:18
nobody should be in those properties. And these properties that
6:21
are sitting there should not be siphoning money from the
6:24
grand total of his estate. That money should be going
6:28
to the survivors. What in the hell is going on
6:32
that mister Epstein was able to get a banking license
6:34
in the first place as unusual. No, it's not, no,
6:37
it's not okay. He paid people off in the Virgin Islands.
6:41
They all knew what he was doing, and now this
6:44
whole entire fiasco is coming back on them. So Denise
6:48
George is trying to save face by saying she's gonna
6:50
go after Epstein's estate as well. That's my opinion of
6:53
the whole situation. But there is no way anybody can
6:56
tell me that these people, these officials in the Virgin
6:59
Islands were getting their palms greased. Sorry, that's a bunch
7:02
of bs. We've seen. We've seen the evidence of Jeffrey
7:06
Epstein's spreading the wealth around. We've seen it. His two
7:10
thousand and eight conviction in Florida on a charge of
7:12
soliciting prostitution from an underage girl required him to register
7:17
as a sex offender. I don't even again. I hate
7:19
when they write that soliciting prostitution from an underage girl.
7:22
If you're an underage girl, you cannot be a prostitute.
7:26
What a ridiculous law that was on Florida's books. Really
7:29
glad they got rid of that one. Most bank operators
7:32
doing business in the United States are required to undergo
7:35
rigorous background checks, and most banking institutions are subject to
7:39
oversight by the Arm of the Treasury that investigates suspicial
7:43
financial tried and transactions. Neither was required by the Virgin
7:47
Islands when mister Epstein submitted the application in twenty thirteen. Again,
7:52
why do you think that is, folks? Do you think
7:54
it's just because the Virgin Islands decided, Ah, you know what,
7:57
we're gonna let Epstein pass. He's a nice guy, we
7:59
like shoes. Or was it that Epstein had been greasing palms,
8:06
making everybody eat, giving everybody that bag, and they decided, well, look,
8:10
we're gonna keep this gravy train rolling. It's not our kids.
8:13
What do we care? And that's you know what, that's
8:15
the harsh reality of a folks. I don't mean to
8:17
be so abrasive with it, but that's the harsh reality
8:20
that these people look at it and they say, well,
8:22
it's not our kids, what the hell do we care?
8:24
When in reality, any right thinking human being looks at
8:27
a situation like this and says to themselves, how could
8:31
you ever enable somebody like Jeffrey Epstein? But we all
8:35
know in politics and in this part, in this kind
8:38
of this kind of walk of life, money talks, folks,
8:41
money talks, and it's it's the be all end all
8:44
to these evil people. The territory had passed its International
8:48
Banking Entity law a year earlier in hopes of enticing
8:52
investment from overseas. It modeled its law on that of
8:56
Puerto Rico, where international banking entities have existed for three
8:59
days decades. Such organizations are attractive to offshore investors because
9:04
the banks are able to offer more favorable tax treatment
9:07
than the investors' own countries can. In return, the territories
9:11
expect residents to manage the banks even though they cannot
9:14
use the bank's services. Crazy. So all of these loopholes
9:18
are crazy. Like I was saying earlier about the Virgin Islands. Look,
9:22
I'm obviously not an expert on law, and certainly no
9:25
expert on law in the Virgin Islands. But if you
9:27
don't think the politicians are corrupt as hell down there,
9:30
and if you don't think they're grifting like an MF
9:33
you have another thing coming. Okay, they create all these loopholes.
9:36
And when was anybody going to look at the Virgin
9:39
Islands besides as a vacation spot. Until this Jeffrey Epstein
9:42
stuff popped up. These guys were escaping all sorts of
9:45
scrutiny because of Jeffrey Epstein, I mean, because they were
9:48
off the radar. Then now Epstein, well they're smack dab
9:52
in the middle of everybody's radar at this point. Now right,
9:57
these specialized banks have drawn scrutiny because of their potential
10:00
for abuse, including money laundering. Again, folks, that's very important.
10:04
Let's remember that money laundering. Okay, So now we have
10:07
we know that he laundered money, We know that he
10:10
transported girls and children across state lines for trafficking, we
10:16
know that we know that he threatened people, We know
10:19
that he was involved in an ongoing criminal conspiracy, and
10:23
we know that because we have the evidence of all
10:25
of this. And that's just four quick things right off
10:28
the top of my head that he was definitely involved in,
10:30
all right, and all four of those things can get
10:32
you slapped with rico. How is this man? How wasn't
10:36
this man? And how aren't his associates slapped with RICO.
10:40
I just don't understand it. I just it's beyond me.
10:46
It is absolutely beyond me, folks. The Federal Reserve Bank
10:51
of New York describes international bank entities as in the
10:54
Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico as high risk institutions. Last year,
10:58
it temporarily suspends applications for them to obtain financial services
11:02
from the FED until it can issue stricter rules for them. Look,
11:07
I'm not even going to begin to act like I
11:10
understand the nuances of these financial institutions and these high
11:15
risk financial institutions, because I do not, So I'm not
11:18
gonna run my fat yap too much about those. But
11:22
it strikes me as odd that the Federal Reserve would,
11:25
even even though they slap them with a high risk institution,
11:28
they let them go into business. Why would you even
11:30
let a place like this go into business. Meanwhile you're
11:33
sending you know, Wesley Snipes to jail for tax evasion.
11:37
It's such a joke. The two tier justice system in
11:40
this country is such a joke, folks. Mister Epstein was
11:44
carefully evasive and answering a question on the application that
11:48
was meant to reveal information about about an applicant's criminal record.
11:52
His response mentioned his guilty plea to state charges in Florida,
11:55
but it played down the other elements of the case.
11:59
For a relatively brief period in what was otherwise been
12:01
a productive and accomplished life, the application said mister Epstein
12:05
did face some legal difficulties relating to matters alleged to
12:08
have taken place seven years ago. The application noted that
12:11
a federal investigation had been discontinued. Oh yeah, obviously it
12:16
was discontinued. Huh, you thought it was discontinued. But guess what,
12:20
this was not gonna go away. This was not going
12:23
to be swept under the carpet this time. But that
12:26
answer was misleading, said Richard Scott Carnell, a former Assistant
12:30
Secretary for Financial Institutions at the Treasury Department. The application
12:35
did not reflect that mister Epstein's plea deal included an
12:37
agreement with federal prosecutors who promised not to bring their
12:41
own charges. The agreement acknowledged that federal authorities had compiled
12:45
a long list of other possible underage victims. I don't
12:50
even understand, like any Joe schmoe with computer access can
12:56
google Jeffrey Epstein and seen what he was guilty of
12:59
for them to be like, well, he didn't, he didn't
13:01
declare that in his application. And nobody's checking these people.
13:05
So anybody can just go get a huh, some high
13:09
risk bank in the Virgin Islands, anybody at all? How
13:13
about uh, you know, some some al Qaeda member or
13:16
some cartel member. I don't even understand what any of
13:19
this means. Right, Well, how's that even possible? Why is
13:23
why is the the the Federal Reserve even granting these
13:29
these sort of institutions the ability to operate. Crazy bank
13:36
regulators expect applicants to be candid, said mister carnal now
13:39
in A now an associate professor at Fordham Law School.
13:42
You never suspect that there was a non prosecution agreement.
13:45
As a bank regulator, I'd be outraged to learn that
13:48
an applicant had misled me in that way. Here's an idea,
13:51
and I know that this is going to be a
13:53
novel idea. All right, how about if you're working with
13:56
people that have this that kind of money, and you're
13:59
getting into business with him, it might be a good idea.
14:01
To do a basic Google search on them or a
14:04
duck duck ghost search on them. Probably not the worst
14:07
idea in the world, Okay for all of these people
14:10
to use that as an excuse. Oh, I had no
14:12
idea who this man was, or we had no idea
14:15
who he was when we gave him this banking license.
14:19
That's bs. Of course you knew who he was. Would
14:22
you live under a rock? In his application, mister Epstein
14:26
listed as references James E. Staley, the chief executive of Barclays,
14:31
who had cultivated a relationship with mister Epstein while at
14:34
JP Morgan Chase. Another reference was Andrew Farkas, a New
14:38
York real estate tycoon and co owner of a marina
14:42
and office complex on Saint Thomas with mister Epstein. Spokesmen
14:46
for both men said they had been unaware they were
14:48
listed as references, along with JP Morgan and First Bank,
14:51
a Puerto Rico based lender with branches in the Virgin
14:54
Islands that long held some of mister Epstein's accounts. Of course,
14:58
they didn't know. Nobody ever knows anything when it has
15:02
to do with Jeffrey Epstein, do they? Folks see no evil,
15:06
hear no evil? Speak no evil. That's what they all
15:09
look like, those monkeys. I hear no evil, see no evil,
15:12
speak no evil, and that is all of these people.
15:16
The application was submitted by Erica A. Keller Halls, a
15:20
longtime tax lawyer for mister Epstein in the Virgin Islands.
15:23
She did not request return requests for comment. Of course not.
15:27
She's going to the mattresses too, right, she's hiding out.
15:29
She's definitely bunkering in. She doesn't want to answer any
15:33
questions about this, but guess what questions are coming your way.
15:37
Southern Country had not commenced doing business as of April
15:41
twenty eighteen, according to correspondence between Missus Keller Halls and
15:45
the Territory Banking Department. Regulators said the bank was a
15:49
self reporting company and did not require additional regulatory oversight
15:53
if it was not operational. Well, maybe you guys should
15:55
change that in the future. Huh. Well, I mean, you
15:58
know what, Just leave them to their own devices, no
16:00
oversights needed, let them longer money, let them do whatever
16:03
they want, because guess what, it doesn't matter, right, it
16:06
doesn't matter. It's a free for all. If you have
16:08
this kind of money, you can steal you can grift,
16:11
you can lie, you can cheat, you can start endless wars,
16:14
and obviously you can have trafficking off operations under everybody's nose. Man.
16:19
That's okay, no big deal. But court documents show Southern
16:23
Country was active for some of last year. Records filed
16:26
by the estate on Friday indicate that Southern Country had
16:29
six hundred and ninety three thousand, one hundred and fifty
16:32
seven dollars in assets when mister Epstein died on August tenth.
16:36
Then in mid December, the estate transferred fifteen point five
16:40
million dollars to Southern Country and two checks. Southern Country
16:43
sent back two point six million, leaving the total it
16:47
received at twelve point nine million dollars. The documents filed
16:51
by the estate do not give a reason for the transfers.
16:56
Chances are they were laundering money. That's my guess. Okay,
16:59
I mean again, look, I have no evidence to prove that.
17:02
But at this point, do you trust anything that has
17:05
to do with Jeffrey Epstein, his finances, his executors, or
17:08
anything around this whole entire sworded ordeal in the Virgin Islands,
17:12
I certainly do not. It's also not clear what Southern
17:16
Country did with that money. Two weeks later. The year
17:20
end value of Southern Country's assets was four hundred and
17:22
ninety nine thou seven hundred and fifty nine dollars, according
17:26
to the estate's filings. The estate has told officials in
17:29
the Virgin Islands that it does not intend to renew
17:31
the bank's license again. Oh that's nice of them. You know,
17:34
we're not going to renew it again. We've already stole
17:36
as much as we possibly could, and we've already washed
17:39
a ton of money here, So no big deal. We
17:41
don't need that license. Go ahead, you can take it.
17:44
Around the time the territory granted mister Epstein his banking license,
17:48
it also gave a lucrative tax break to Southern Trust,
17:51
a company mister Epstein said was developing sophisticated algorithms to
17:55
mind DNA and financial databases the tax breaks. The tax
18:00
break came from the territory's Economic Development Authority, which was
18:04
approved by the territory's former governor, John Dejon Junior, while
18:08
his wife, Cecile worked for mister Epstein. Isn't that nice? Folks?
18:12
You see what I mean here? Do you understand now
18:14
what I'm talking about how the Virgin Islands is trying
18:17
to get paid on this on both ends of the deal.
18:20
All right, You had John DeJong who was the governor
18:23
and his wife Cecile, who had worked for mister Epstein,
18:26
and he's the one who approved all of this nonsense. Okay,
18:30
So come on for Denise George to be going after
18:34
the estate or why don't you go after the governor
18:36
and all the other politicians that look the other way
18:39
or accepted money from Jeffrey Epstein. When is it going
18:41
to be their time to stand to face justice. Never, right,
18:46
it's never their time. It's always just the scapegoats. It's
18:48
always just the low hanging fruit. The tax break granted
18:53
in twenty thirteen was a boon for mister Epstein. Southern
18:56
Trust generated about three hundred million in profit in six years,
19:00
and he paid an effective tax rate of about three
19:02
point nine percent. If that doesn't make you sick, folks,
19:05
I don't know what will add that on to all
19:08
the other nonsense that this guy was involved in. And
19:10
he was grifting all of this money by hardly paying
19:14
any taxes. And the people, I mean the government officials
19:18
of the Virgin Island have the audacity to try and
19:21
go after his estate. Now, when they were cutting him
19:23
this sweetheart of a deal, why didn't you tax the
19:25
shit out of him then? If he was such a
19:27
bad guy and you all knew what he was, why
19:29
didn't you tax the shit out of him? Then? Of
19:31
course you didn't tax him then because you personally were
19:34
being enriched by it. The source of Southern Trust revenue
19:38
is not clear. The bare bones corporate filings made by
19:41
the company and the Virgin Islands do not list any clients.
19:44
Again another theme of Jeffrey Epstein. One client, hardly any clients,
19:48
and just another way for him to pack away the fazzules,
19:52
launder that money and commit all sorts of crimes that
19:55
should be slapped with rico. Although the Virgin Island was
20:00
long a place where mister Epstein got his way, it
20:02
is lately cast itself as one of his victims. In
20:06
a lawsuit last month, the Attorney General of the Virgin Islands,
20:09
Denise M. George, said mister Epstein had sullied the territory's
20:12
reputation with his conduct. She sued mister Epstein's estate, seeking
20:16
to seize his private islands and dissolve what she said
20:19
were shell companies acting as fronts for his sex trafficking enterprise.
20:24
The suit seeks to intervene in the administration of mister
20:27
Epstein's will to safeguard assets for dozens of his victims,
20:31
claiming that co executors may have a conflict of interest
20:34
because they were officers in many of mister Epstein's companies,
20:38
including Southern Country and Southern Trust. The co executors, Darren
20:42
Endyke and Richard Kahn, did not request did not answer
20:46
quests for requests for comment. Judge Herman Purcell, the magistrate
20:52
judge overseeing the administration of mister Epstein's will in the
20:55
Virgin Islands, heard arguments on the Attorney General's request at
20:58
the hearing on Tuesday. The judge said she would issue
21:01
a ruling at a later date. All right, folks, well
21:05
this goes into what we talked about last night, how
21:08
the estate was worth more than we knew, how he
21:11
made the estate, had made eighty million dollars in his death.
21:14
And I told you that there was a hearing today,
21:17
so I thought it would be good to jump in
21:19
and we'll got to have a full accounting of what
21:21
went on. And now we know that the judge will
21:24
be rendering the decision later on in the future. But
21:29
you understand now, I'm sure you guys all understand right,
21:33
the Virgin Islands is as acting like a victim here
21:36
when in reality, the Virgin Islands was an enabler. Okay,
21:39
The Virgin Islands as a territory enabled Jeffrey Epstein's behavior.
21:44
They accepted gifts from him, they accepted money from him,
21:48
and they knew exactly what he was. So forgive me
21:52
if I don't cry any crocodile tears for the Virgin Islands.
21:56
All right, folks, if you'd like to contact me, you
21:58
can do that at Bobby Kapouch at ProtonMail dot com.
22:01
That's bobbyc ap u Cci at ProtonMail dot com. What's up, everyone,
22:09
and welcome back to the Epstein Chronicles. We've been talking
22:13
about the financial portion of the Jeffrey Epstein criminal enterprise
22:18
for quite some time here on the podcast, and I
22:22
think it's one of the most underreported and least talked
22:26
about portions of this case, which is very odd to
22:31
me considering we all know that it's the financial ties
22:34
that bind. We all know that if you follow the money,
22:37
eventually you're gonna find a criminal. But the government, even
22:43
after Jeffrey Epstein's death and arrest, they didn't seem to
22:47
have any desire to follow the money. They didn't seem
22:51
to have any desire to bring in the proper people
22:54
to go through this stuff forensically and figure out what
22:57
the hell went on here, because Jeffrey Epstein was manipulating
23:00
the system at every turn, whether it be with his
23:05
offshore money spots, whether it be with business deals or
23:12
fake charities, even like we're going to talk about today,
23:16
you name it, Jeffrey Epstein was involved in it. When
23:19
it comes to financial ill gotten gains and financial misdeeds,
23:25
Jeffrey Epstein was involved in all of it. And it's
23:28
something that doesn't get enough talk, because I'll tell you what,
23:33
if these investigators were really serious about all of this,
23:37
and they were really serious about bringing the remnants of
23:40
Jeffrey Epstein's criminal enterprise under heel, they'd slap a RICO
23:44
charge on all of these people and then they dive
23:47
into their financials with a fine tooth comb. And until
23:51
we see that happening, then I have to say we're
23:54
never getting the full look at what went on here.
23:58
We're only getting little pieces, right, a little look in
24:01
the room maybe. Whereas we all know, Glen Maxwell is
24:06
a disgusting excuse for a human being. She is not
24:09
the only one involved here. She was the underbossed right,
24:13
the Epstein's right hand woman, But she wasn't the only
24:17
one involved. She certainly wasn't involved in the financial angle
24:21
like Indyke or Khan or some of these other people.
24:26
So what I would like to see probably never going
24:29
to see it, But what I would like to see
24:31
is a nice fat Rico case. All of these people
24:34
caught up. Anybody who ever had money transferred to them
24:38
by Jeffrey Epstein has to have a look because we
24:42
know that all of his money originated from a dark place, right,
24:46
ill gotten gains. So if you're receiving ill gotten gains
24:49
from somebody who is caught up in a RICO case,
24:52
well now you are a target in that Rico case
24:55
as well. And that's how RICO works, and that's why
24:58
everybody's so terrified of it. I've seen it firsthand. I've
25:03
seen RICO apply to people I care about firsthand and
25:06
seen how it ruined them over illegal sports gambling. By
25:11
the way, meanwhile, you have Jeffrey Epstein and his friends
25:15
opening up banks all kinds of crazy shit and no penalties.
25:19
Nobody's going to jail. His banker doesn't go to jail,
25:22
his lawyer doesn't go to jail, his accountant doesn't go
25:25
to jail. And you wonder why people have no faith
25:29
in the system or in these institutions. All right, today,
25:34
our article is from the New York Times and the
25:38
headline of this article is Jeffrey Epstein's charity an image
25:42
boost built on deception. This article was authored by Steve
25:47
Etter and Matthew Goldstein. Now we reached back into the
25:51
vault for this one, folks. This is an article from
25:53
November twenty six of twenty nineteen. And considering there's a
25:58
bit of a lull today as far as new news,
26:02
I thought we'd slide this one in and keep things
26:05
rolling on the financial track. Jeffrey Epstein's Foundation looked for
26:11
all the world like a charitable powerhouse. On its websites
26:15
and then its press releases. The foundation was described as
26:18
a patron of hospitals, universities and film festivals run by
26:23
a global philanthropist. And this is what's so galling, right,
26:27
everybody knew what this guy was up to. All of
26:30
the scumbags in his atmosphere knew what do you think
26:33
they sat around and his hubris didn't have him acting
26:36
in a brazen manner telling these people what he was about,
26:39
maybe not directly, but hinting at it. And then if
26:43
you're one of these people hanging out with them all
26:44
the time, you mean to tell me you never had
26:46
any questions why he's there without any I mean, with
26:50
these young girls, where are their parents, his niece or
26:54
his nephew or anything like that. He just happens to
26:56
have all of these young girls around and nobody has
26:59
any questions. The organization, known by various names but usually
27:06
called the Jay Epstein Virgin Islands Foundation, wasn't officially a
27:10
charity for much of its existence, having lost its taxes
27:14
that tax exempt status in two thousand and eight, but
27:18
it worked to his advantage, helping improve the reputation of
27:21
mister Epstein, a convicted sex offender, and remember that's what
27:25
it was all about. After his arrest, Epstein went on
27:28
the full court press, trying to refurbish his reputation. He
27:32
wanted to come back into civil society. He wanted to
27:36
make his comeback, and he was convinced that it was
27:38
going to be able to happen if these sort of
27:41
people would help him refurbish his disgusting and beat up reputation.
27:46
And the sad part is, folks, a lot of these
27:48
so called eletes, a lot of these scumbags that are
27:51
out there crowing about this or that they let him
27:55
do it. There's no investigations, no agents dispatched to go
28:01
and talk to him, just left up to his own devices,
28:06
to the perils of everybody else. A review of tax documents,
28:14
government records, and information provided by federal officials shows that
28:18
the foundation lost its tax exempt status for an unknown
28:21
reason in the same year mister Epstein pleaded guilty to
28:25
soliciting prostitution from a minor and unknown reason. Huh oh,
28:29
I'm sure it had everything to do with him not
28:33
being involved with abusing kids, right, it's absurd. We all
28:38
know what the reason is. But the crazy part is
28:41
all of these people knew behind the scenes what was
28:44
going on, and nobody acted. None of these law enforcement officials,
28:48
none of these officials down in the Virgin Islands who
28:51
knew what was going on. Nobody all because they were
28:54
too busy stuffing their pockets full of Jeffrey Epstein's disgusting ass,
28:58
gross ill gotten mind. In the years between that case
29:07
and to suicide in August, as he faced federal sex
29:09
trafficking charges, mister Epstein was unshackled from the rigorous financial
29:14
disclosures that charities are supposed to file every year with
29:17
the government, allowing him to exaggerate his philanthropy as he
29:21
sought to rebuild his reputation. The foundation's portrayals of its
29:25
giving ranged from simple embellishment to staggering overstatement that means lying, Okay,
29:31
let's just be very real with what it means. Epstein
29:34
and his team they were forging everything. If there were
29:37
anything besides sick, disgusting, twisted, wanna be human beings, they
29:42
were all liars as well. They sure had a huge
29:46
idea about who they were, and it certainly didn't match
29:50
up with reality. One of mister Epstein's websites said the
29:56
foundation had helped to underwrite the Tribeca Film Festival festival,
30:00
when in fact it had donated twenty eight thousand dollars
30:03
to a related organization that offers grants to filmmakers and
30:08
educational programming to students in New York City. So that's
30:12
definitely always been a trademark of Epstein. He's always been
30:15
one of those guys who likes to exaggerate about things.
30:20
That's why you always have to take what he says
30:22
with a grain of salt. Right when you hear quotes
30:24
from Epstein, you know, it's very difficult to take him
30:27
at face value. The foundation sent out news releases touting
30:34
donations to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to restore Mark
30:39
rothcomburles and teach coding to five year olds, claims that
30:43
officials at the school later called inaccurate. Oh I'm sure
30:46
they were inaccurate. Again, Look, I don't trust MIT either,
30:50
considering their relationship with Epstein and the way they're trying
30:53
to foster their image now and fix their image after
30:56
it was revealed how deep their ties were with Epstein.
31:00
Of course they're going to be and cover your ass
31:01
mode as well. Oh well, we had no idea what
31:04
was going on here. That's inaccurate. That never happened. It
31:09
also issued a statement in twenty thirteen saying researchers at
31:13
Mount Sinai Hospital had made a major advance in breast
31:16
cancer research with the backing of mister Epstein, although the
31:20
health system's own release makes no mention of them. I
31:24
mean stolen valor wearing the Navy seal shit, acting like he's,
31:28
you know, a big wig here helping out people with
31:30
breast cancer, which I take umbrage with considering the love
31:34
of my life battled through stage two B breast cancer
31:38
a few years ago and it was one of the
31:40
most grueling, rigorous eighteen months of my I can't can't
31:45
even explain how rigorous the eighteen months was. It was very,
31:49
very difficult watching somebody I care about and love more
31:52
than the world suffer like that and not be able
31:54
to do anything but provide emotional and mental support, wake
31:59
up every take her to the doctor, chemotherapy, then onto radiation,
32:05
then after that still back and forth to the doctors
32:08
for a while. It is all bad and I don't
32:10
wish that on nobody. And anybody acting like they're involved
32:13
in that and helping people who are going through that
32:16
and they're really not well, they certainly make my list
32:20
of top scumbags folks, because that is not something to
32:23
joke around with. It's not something to make pretendre helping
32:26
out with if you're not, because it's serious business. People's
32:30
lives are shattered when they're sitting in that hospital room
32:33
and they get that diagnosis. I'm sorry to tell you
32:36
have cancer. Let me tell you what. Everything changes that day, folks,
32:40
Every single thing changes, And it certainly was the case
32:44
for me. So when I see people out here acting like,
32:46
you know, they're helping people with cancer and then pulling
32:49
a pump fake and shit, it really really bothers me.
32:55
But the most glaring exaggeration appeared on Wikipedia. A username
32:59
apparent connected to mister Epstein edited the page for the
33:03
foundation and put its annual outlay at two hundred million
33:07
dollars a year, just under the amount the Facebook founder
33:10
Mark Zuckerberg contributed to charity in two thousand and eighteen.
33:15
Now we know Epstein wasn't dumping that kind to go
33:18
into any kind of charity, zero chance that money was
33:22
more better used for his criminal enterprise. In reality, the
33:28
foundation was worth a small fraction of that amount. According
33:31
to documents obtained by The New York Times through a
33:34
public records lawsuit in the Virgin Islands, eighteen years of
33:39
financial statements showed that just under twenty million dollars flowed
33:43
into the foundation since it was founded in two thousand,
33:46
a lot less than the two hundred million. Huh again,
33:48
you see what I'm talking about with these scumbags. They'll
33:51
even use this their charity. They'll wrap themselves in this
33:54
charity stuff and use it as a shield as armor.
33:57
And I really really detested. It's really gross. It's there's
34:02
not enough words to really explain the grossness. Of six
34:07
million was spent on donations in grants, most of the
34:10
rest paid unspecified general and administrative expenses, and one and
34:15
a half million dollars in interest for what appears to
34:17
be an undisclosed debt. Oh an undisclosed debt? Huh? I wonder,
34:21
I wonder which scumbag was getting that junk of change?
34:23
Which scumbag had their hands in that pie. The documents,
34:28
which were filed with the Virgin Islands Division of Corporations
34:31
and Trademarks do not offer details about where the money
34:34
came from or ended up. That information would be contained
34:39
in the public document Form nine ninety that charities are
34:42
required to file each year with the Internal Revenue Service,
34:46
but there is just one publicly available Form nine to
34:50
ninety from the Foundation a single page filing in two
34:54
thousand and two, and it does not include any information
34:58
on grants or donation. So you see, here's my big problem.
35:02
All right. You have all of these government officials and
35:04
all of these people who are now talking about how
35:07
these financial crimes occurred and how the SIPs the system
35:11
was manipulated. Meanwhile, this guy wasn't even filing the right paperwork,
35:15
wasn't following any of the fencing regulations, and nothing happened
35:21
to him. There was never an investigation, there was never
35:24
a raid, nobody was arrested. In fact, he was hooked
35:27
up in the Virgin Islands. And this is why I
35:29
say the Virgin Islands should not see one single dollar.
35:33
They're the ones who let all of this happen down there,
35:36
all right, so they shouldn't just be let off the hook.
35:39
The officials down there. Nobody's going to get arrested, none
35:42
of that. Until that happens. I don't want to hear
35:44
about the Virgin Islands thinks they should have some of
35:46
this money because all of this shit happened on all
35:49
of their watch and nobody wanted to do anything about
35:52
it until the wall started to fall down. Mister Epstein's
35:59
website portrayed the Foundation as an organization with high standards
36:03
and high aspirations for changing the world. I mean, yeah,
36:06
you know, definitely what it was a definitely an organization
36:11
with high standards. If high standards to you mean no
36:15
standards whatsoever. A page from one site described a multi
36:20
stage grant process that asked applicants to describe how their
36:24
project was innovative, the pressing need it would address, and
36:28
an explanation of how they would evaluate their results. The
36:31
page from twenty ten also said it was vital to
36:35
understand that the Foundation and another run by mister Epstein
36:39
were not piggybanks. No, they were away for Epstein to
36:42
get his claws into some of these scientists or some
36:44
of these projects, and then that way he can do
36:47
what he wished with the information, sell it onto his
36:49
handler or whatever it is. That was the whole goal
36:52
for Epstein. But that was the term that Martin Shield,
37:00
a retired Supervisory Special Agent with the Criminal Investigations Division
37:04
of the IRS, used to describe the Foundation. Its lack
37:08
of disclosures, he said, could be an overt act of concealment. Oh,
37:12
it could be. Huh So, where's the irs kicking in
37:14
the doors. Where's the irs sending in all of the agents? Oh,
37:18
they only do that if it's you guess what tax
37:21
days coming, folks, you better make sure yours are filed.
37:25
It's not clear if such misrepresentations amounted to a crime.
37:29
False statements meant to fraudently solicit donations are illegal and
37:33
generally prosecuted by state attorneys general. Yeah, when they're not
37:37
in the pocket of the accused, when they're not you know,
37:41
dipping their hands into the trough. Yeah, then then you
37:45
might have some indictments. But Jeffrey Epstein, no way. The
37:48
dudo was protected obviously wherever he went and was able
37:52
to initiate these sorts of schemes, scams and plots, and
37:55
nobody wanted to do anything about it. The New York's
38:00
Attorney General's office began inquiring in twenty fifteen whether the Foundation,
38:05
which said on one of its sites that had had
38:07
offices in Manhattan and the Virgin Islands, needed to register
38:11
as a charity in New York. Mister Epstein's longtime lawyer,
38:15
Darren Endyke, replied that the site was inaccurate and that
38:18
the foundation was operated out of an office in Saint Thomas.
38:22
So they can't even get their act together as far
38:24
as where business is being conducted in this company right, oh,
38:29
to Virgin Islands or to New York. And then the
38:32
regulators are just like, oh, okay, whatever you say, mister Epstein,
38:36
instead of really digging in like they usually do. Eh,
38:39
we'll move on to an easier target, lower hanging fruit,
38:41
if you will. Mister Dyke, who is one of two
38:45
executors of mister Epstein's estate, did not respond to messages
38:50
seeking comment. Before regulators closed their inquiry, mister Dyke provided
38:55
them with a copy of a letter the Foundation received
38:58
from the IRS in two thousand verifying its status as
39:01
a charitable tax exempt organization. Oh, I'm sure Jeffrey Epstein's
39:06
getting passports from Saudi Arabia and other countries. You really
39:10
think he's gonna have a problem pulling some levers here
39:13
to get tax exempt status. But he never disclosed that
39:19
the agency had dropped the Foundation from its official role
39:22
of tax exempt organizations. The foundation was set up as
39:26
part of mister Epstein's participation in a lucrative program in
39:29
the Virgin Islands that offered big tax breaks to his
39:33
businesses financial trust in Southern trust in return for philanthropic
39:38
commitment to charities in the territory. And you see where
39:41
the whole asked for. The money comes in now down
39:43
in the Virgin Islands. But again, these officials are the
39:48
ones that put Jeffrey Epstein into business, right, they let
39:51
him set up shop down there. They're the ones that
39:53
should have been regulating this, going over it with a
39:55
fine tooth comb, but instead they set it all up.
39:58
Then they turn around and then they want to play
40:00
the fool and act like they had no idea. Sorry,
40:03
that doesn't work. One of mister Epstein's sales pitchs to
40:10
his wealthy clients was offering tax advantage strategies that sometimes
40:14
included charitable giving. Reports from the agency that approved the
40:18
tax incentives show the foundation made more than one point
40:22
eight million dollars in donations to charities, educational scholarships and symposiums. There.
40:28
In an emailed statement, the Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority
40:31
said the foundation was established primarily for the purpose of
40:35
making charitable contributions to the Virgin Islands community. Well one
40:40
point eight million dollars in donations all right, But public
40:43
records show it also carried out some unusual transactions. Of
40:47
course it did. He wasn't being regulated or monitored. He
40:50
throws one point eight million dollars towards the Virgin Island
40:53
Economic Development Authority. They look the other way. You guys
40:56
all know how this game is played. I don't need
40:58
to explain this to you. I'll been seeing this for
41:01
how many years now? In twenty seventeen, the foundation, also
41:06
known as Enhanced Education, cut a check for one hundred
41:09
and sixty thousand dollars to pay fines mister Epstein incurred
41:13
for permanent violations on his private islands. Its funds also
41:19
backed the causes of political officials in the Virgin Islands,
41:22
including up to thirty thousand dollars to support a computer
41:25
giveaway by an elected official. The foundation has also contributed
41:30
tens of thousands of dollars to other groups, including the
41:33
territory's Chamber of Commerce. So you see, they've already gotten
41:37
their cut the Virgin Islands. And this is why I'm
41:39
so adamant about them not getting any more of this money,
41:42
especially considering we see how a lot of these survivors
41:45
got lowballed. One hundred and twenty five million one hundred
41:48
and thirty five million going out to the survivors, a
41:50
mere one sixth of Jeffrey Epstein's fortune, and the Virgin Islands,
41:54
with all of this in mind, still thinks they're entitled
41:57
to a little piece. Federal investigators have taken an interest
42:02
in the foundation. In August, the FBI contacted the Virgin
42:05
Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources about the payment
42:09
to resolve the permit violations. Agents asked whether the department
42:13
had a policy prohibiting a charitable foundation from paying the penalty,
42:18
said Jamal Nielsen, a spokesman for the department. He said
42:21
the contribution did not violate any department rules. Oh, of
42:25
course it didn't. You know. It never violates any rules
42:28
when they're the ones benefiting from it, does it. The
42:33
FBI in New York declined to comment, citing an ongoing investigation.
42:37
It's not clear how the foundation lost its tax exempt status.
42:41
It could have given it up or it may have
42:43
been taken away after an IRS investigation. Eric L. Smith,
42:48
a spokesman for the IRS, said the agency could not comment,
42:52
citing federal privacy laws. That's another thing the government likes
42:56
to do. Right up, there's an investigation. Right now, we
42:59
can't give you any information. The IRS can also revoke
43:04
tax exempt status if a foundation fails to file a
43:07
Form nine ninety for three consecutive years, although that rule
43:11
took effect in twenty ten. Stephen T. Miller, a former
43:15
acting IRS Commissioner and now the national director of tax
43:19
at Alliance Group, said Form nine nineties are vital both
43:23
for regulators and the general public to understand the finances
43:27
of a given entity. Zero chance we were ever going
43:31
to get a look behind the curt and at Jeffrey
43:33
Epstein's finances. This guy was not a genius, like everybody says,
43:38
but the dude certainly was good at hiding money and
43:41
manipulating the financial sector, especially considering all of the people
43:45
he had dispersed throughout it to help him out. The
43:50
scant filings by mister Epstein's foundation, he said, showed a
43:53
lack of transparency, and over the years, mister Epstein operated
43:58
at least three other charities, including one based in the
44:01
Virgin Islands. Mister endike is lawyer long served as an
44:05
officer for mister Epstein's charities and other businesses. Again, Darren
44:09
Indyke's name all over the place, no indictment, no deposition,
44:13
no self responsibility. Two of mister Epstein's foundations relied on
44:22
wealthy business titans to provide millions in seed capital. His
44:26
co UQ Foundation received about twenty one million in stock
44:30
and cash from charities of Leslie H. Wexner, the billionaire
44:33
retail magnate whose company owns Victoria's Secret. Mister Epstein's Gratitude
44:38
America Foundation received ten million dollars in donations in twenty
44:43
fifteen from a company tied to the private equity billionaire
44:47
Leon D. Black. And you see what I mean, folks,
44:50
Why I call this such a sham. All of these
44:52
guys are donating to these sham ass foundations and this
44:57
turns into ill gotten gains. And this is a RICO
45:00
case right here, right here in front of us. And
45:02
believe me, I'm certainly no FBI agent or IRS agent
45:05
or Treasury Department official. But come on, if you're going
45:08
to slap people with RICO over illegal gambling or wire fraud,
45:13
you mean to tell me this doesn't deserve at least
45:15
a full on investigation, a full on look. Mister Epstein's
45:21
other foundations complied with federal disclosure rules, making his namesake
45:26
foundation the outlier. It doesn't pass the smell test, said
45:31
mister Shield, the retired IRS special agent. After his two
45:34
thousand and eight conviction, mister Epstein took great pains to
45:38
burnish his reputation, and the foundation played a key role,
45:42
and so did all of those enablers that were around
45:44
him that we talk about all the time. In twenty thirteen,
45:47
a Wikipedia user named Turville made a number of changes
45:51
to the page for the foundation. The changes including saying
45:54
he found the foundation had given more than two hundred
45:57
million dollars to a long list of notable scientist since
46:01
its inception, then raised its claim further by describing that
46:05
sum as its approximate annual outlay. So basically just lying
46:10
about things. This person went on Wikipedia and just started
46:13
changing the Wikipedia page to all sorts of fanciful whismical bs.
46:20
The user's name connection to mister Epstein is evident from
46:23
information he disclosed in New Mexico as a result of
46:26
his two thousand and eight conviction. He provided a list
46:29
of online user names, including those used by third party
46:33
reputation management services he hired. On that list was a
46:37
Wikipedia handle Turville that does not appear anywhere on the website,
46:43
but the similar name Turville does, and that user had
46:47
a particular focus on editing articles about mister Epstein. So
46:52
you see how this works, right, Epstein out there trying
46:55
to foster his image, then hits the internet to do
46:58
a quick sweep to make sure everything lined up. Meanwhile,
47:01
the irs, the government, nobody's the wiser, hunh, nobody has
47:07
any idea what's going on. As we continue to dive
47:13
deeper into this disgusting rabbit hole, it becomes very apparent
47:18
that all of these people had at least a clue
47:20
what was going on, and frankly, they didn't care. All right, folks,
47:27
that's gonna do it for this morning's update. As usual
47:31
on the way some context episodes. Then I will be
47:34
back later on tonight. If you'd like to contact me,
47:37
you can do that at Bobby Kapuchi at ProtonMail dot com.
