Latest / Brandon Fogal Evolution / #162 - Does Achieving Nirvana Mean Finding God?
Transcript
- 0:00When you reach nirvana, does that mean you've found God?
- 0:03Today, we're going to take a look at Dr. K sat down with Stephen Bartlett on A Diary of a CEO.
- 0:09And they talked about the primary focus of it was about resisting temptation,
- 0:15resisting the urge to watch pornography and to masturbate and all that.
- 0:20That's what they mainly focused on. And it was very eye-opening and very enlightening.
- 0:26And hearing Dr. K explain, because he is very smart, He gives a lot of techniques
- 0:31of, I wouldn't even say resisting, because he says when you get into resisting, you're going to lose.
- 0:38And he gives a lot of like pointers of how to not succumb to something.
- 0:42It is basically putting it out there that you are not going to cave.
- 0:48And when you do, if you say you're not going to, and then you do, you've lost.
- 0:53And he gives a lot of techniques of how to resist, how to avoid it and all that.
- 0:57And it's very eye-opening and very good. He gets into the, all the psychology of it.
- 1:01And, but I, the focus kind of shifts and kind of turns when Steven starts asking them about God.
- 1:08And I think they, to me, you'd have to check with the diary of a CEO,
- 1:12but it seems like they cut a lot of stuff out because there's things that I
- 1:16think that we're missing from it because it sounds like he went into like talking
- 1:19about beings that are out there and all this.
- 1:22And because they're talking about it in like retrospect in the conversation,
- 1:25but he doesn't, it doesn't say it in the conversation.
- 1:28And it's really cool. I want to actually, it almost gives Dr.
- 1:32K a little pause when Stephen brings up about, do you believe in God?
- 1:37And I want to take a look at this. But what's really fascinating is if you look
- 1:40at some of these old Eastern texts, they say that the universe is born out of
- 1:45a point called Bindu Visarga, which is literally described as a point of infinite energy,
- 1:51matter, and consciousness, which then explodes into the universe. Do you believe in a God?
- 1:57Sure. So I think that what we call a God, so if you look at like a person,
- 2:03a person has like layers, right? So if I ask like, who is Stephen?
- 2:06Stephen has a body. So there's a certain level of Stephen that is a physical
- 2:09form. There's a certain level of Stephen that is a bank account.
- 2:12There's a certain level of Stephen that is a brand. Which one of those is really
- 2:15Stephen? They're all really Stephen.
- 2:16So I think there is something at the resolution that people would call a God that does exist.
- 2:21So you think there's a higher power that is somewhat intentional? Yes.
- 2:26Obviously the question becomes what, created that so i don't think that's that's
- 2:30the right question because when we talk about what created god it's asking the
- 2:34wrong question it's asking the wrong thing because you will get into this infinite.
- 2:39Escalator type of theology that you just go back and back and back.
- 2:43There's never one singularity or point.
- 2:46Because I know we always talk about the singularity of the Big Bang.
- 2:49That's where everything was in one point and then exploded into everything.
- 2:55Almost nothingness became everything.
- 2:57The Bible is kind of clear about it. The singularity is Jesus.
- 3:01He is the point that everything just erupted into everything.
- 3:05God the Father spoke through Jesus the Word.
- 3:09And just everything came into existence. It says we are held intact by the son
- 3:13of God, by the word of his power. We are held together.
- 3:16Our molecules are not just, just dismembering or just like just going away from each other.
- 3:22But like, it was kind of weird whenever he asked, do you believe in God? And he's like, sure.
- 3:28And it seemed like at that point, that was the only throughout the whole conversation that Dr.
- 3:32K got a little bit like, you want to go there? You really want to go there? Kind of thing.
- 3:37He was hesitant. He talked about everything. I mean, you're talking about masturbation
- 3:41and like the most uncomfortable subject ever. And he's like, he doesn't care.
- 3:45It's like, it's very easy to talk about in just regular common parlance.
- 3:49But when you bring up the issue about God, it seemed like I'm not ready to touch that. I don't know.
- 3:54And this next part, this next clip is really eye-opening because he says,
- 3:59I don't want to talk about it.
- 4:00He asked, Stephen asked the question and even Stephen is caught off guard.
- 4:04And then Dr. K, he goes into it. He goes into it. It's pretty cool.
- 4:07But I just want to know what your intuition tells you.
- 4:10It's not, so experience, right? So I think when you experience certain states
- 4:13of meditation, you have experiences of things outside of the normative reality.
- 4:20Now, you can also make a biological reductionist argument that those are just
- 4:24illusions, hallucinations created by neurons.
- 4:27I don't think that that's true. What specifically are you referring to that you've experienced?
- 4:31I don't talk about it. You can ask me a more specific question,
- 4:33and then maybe I can say something, but. What is the right question to ask you? So I'll try to explain.
- 4:39So this is going to get weird, okay? Okay, it's going to get weird.
- 4:43It's not as weird as you'd think it's going to get.
- 4:45But like, Stephen's like, what do I need to ask you to get like what you're talking about?
- 4:49Something has changed like his
- 4:51demeanor and what he's like actually going through and getting into this.
- 4:55I think because I have had experiences before, like when I talked to somebody,
- 4:59just a random guy, I wanted to share Jesus with and I brought up the Lord to him.
- 5:03And he's like he was immediately like the countenance in anybody's face changes
- 5:09when you start talking about God about anything because he's like don't talk
- 5:12to me about that you don't bring that up to somebody that is something you don't say to somebody like.
- 5:19I know I just, I was a new Christian and I just completely caught him off guard.
- 5:23But when you start bringing up the topic about these type of things,
- 5:26and you would expect that that would be the case, you know, when we're talking
- 5:29about the most important things of ever,
- 5:31you know, and we all have this, this core innate desire of finding out what
- 5:35the truth is, but we're just, we're all just grasping for something.
- 5:39It becomes very personal.
- 5:41And at times he even talks about guilt and feeling, feeling bad and, and shame and all this.
- 5:47And it's like, I, that, that is why it does get extremely tough for anybody
- 5:52because we all experiencing that.
- 5:54And like, do we really need to experience that with God?
- 5:57And I think if we have a right view of God, we don't need to,
- 6:00we shouldn't need to, because there's a reason that Jesus went to the cross. He paid for our sin.
- 6:07He paid for our shame. He paid for our guilt.
- 6:10But if you're just, if you're going out on all these other directions of viewpoints
- 6:14of the world, you're going to become, you're going to come up empty.
- 6:18I don't care how much nirvana you achieve or how much meditation you put in.
- 6:22You could put it in centuries.
- 6:24If you don't find Jesus, Jesus is the answer. He's the answer that I don't want
- 6:29to be like dogmatic, but like at a point you, you have to tell people how it is.
- 6:35You have to tell people how it is, but let's see. Let's hear it get weird.
- 6:38So I realized recently that I used to value credibility over truth.
- 6:44You understand credibility and truth are two fundamentally different things.
- 6:47So credibility is saying something that is believable, right?
- 6:52So believability depends on you, not on me.
- 6:56Yeah. So what I realized recently is that credibility is about changing your
- 7:01language to fit the ignorance of the audience, like literally.
- 7:05So I was thinking about this recently in my own midlife crisis,
- 7:09and I was like, what am I here to do?
- 7:11Am I here to be famous and successful? If so, then I should be credible.
- 7:16But if I want to speak the truth, then I need to allow my brand or whatever
- 7:20the fuck it is to like fall apart and be like not credible for people to think that I'm an idiot.
- 7:25And I think that is more important, right? Because that's ego.
- 7:28Like people can think I'm dumb.
- 7:29I would rather speak the truth than be credible in this moment and in some limited ways.
- 7:36Right there. It seems like he's caught in this hard place. He doesn't want,
- 7:40and this is where I think they took some stuff out.
- 7:42I don't know. You would have to ask them if they clip some stuff.
- 7:45And you know they have to they make it really good they put a good package
- 7:48together when they release every podcast of diary of ceo
- 7:52but then after this it seems like they're talking about or
- 7:55dr k says i'm you might just i might
- 7:58just sound like some crazy guy talking about these beans out there
- 8:01and all this but i didn't really hear him talking about
- 8:03it i didn't in the conversation you don't really hear him actually
- 8:06touching on those things so did things get just
- 8:09clipped and removed because it
- 8:12went way too out there or did it just did they want to keep the flow i mean
- 8:18there's reasons for editing and all that but when he talks about i have to this
- 8:23is where it's going to get weird i have to decide whether i want to be credible
- 8:26or i want to tell the truth do i want to be credible as in because anybody can
- 8:30get out there and just say whatever.
- 8:32If you want to you know what your audience is going to like reach be happy about
- 8:37they're going to receive.
- 8:39Just by me saying earlier, Jesus is the answer. Jesus is the truth.
- 8:43Immediately, you who hear this are going to be either like, amen, amen, brother.
- 8:49Or you're going to be like, this guy's a freaking idiot.
- 8:52This guy doesn't know what the heck he's talking about. You're probably in one camp or the other.
- 8:56And some people are indifferent. You're kind of in that in between.
- 8:59You're not even giving any thought about it. But most people are on one side
- 9:03or the other. They've kind of made their decision.
- 9:06And even not knowing you've made a decision, you've made a decision at some points.
- 9:09But I think this is where he kind of went off the radar. He said,
- 9:12I want to be a person that talks about truth.
- 9:15And he goes into all these kind of, he says, I don't want to let ego get in
- 9:20and me like say, I've had these visions.
- 9:23I've had these experiences because every time I talk about that,
- 9:26I get set back about a decade.
- 9:28And I think that that is the whole pursuit of nirvana and pursuit of just becoming
- 9:34one with whatever it is out there and this whole karma thing that, you know, you...
- 9:40Do good. You got to do enough good so you can get out of it,
- 9:43so you can become absorbed one more, one back with your creator,
- 9:48back with this thing that first started you.
- 9:50But all of this, it's fluff.
- 9:53And I know that so many people talk about this thing, that so many people believe
- 9:56this, but no matter what you think, it's fluff.
- 10:00And all it is is a distraction to try to distract you from the real question is, who is Jesus?
- 10:06Who do you say that he is? every other direction that anybody goes out,
- 10:11they're just trying to stiff arm the reality and the truth that is being presented to them.
- 10:18And they don't want to think about it. They don't want to talk about it because Nirvana, Buddha,
- 10:24all this Hinduism, all this other stuff, it doesn't put a demand on your life,
- 10:28a demand for change, a demand to actually make a decision and do something different.
- 10:35You're not really being held accountable by Buddha. You're not really being
- 10:40held accountable by these Eastern religions that are out there.
- 10:44But there is accountability when it comes when we look at the Bible and the
- 10:48revealed truth of who God is.
- 10:50And that's why it becomes squeamish, uncomfortable, because a lot of us,
- 10:53we just don't want to deal with it.
- 10:55And it's like, until we just jump in, I don't think we ever just,
- 10:58oh, I'm going to jump into God today.
- 11:00No, a lot of times God just says, you're jumping in.
- 11:03He grabs us. He grabs us. You know, and if you feel yourself that I'm going
- 11:09to surrender to him, on the other side, you're going to see that God was the
- 11:13one causing you to surrender.
- 11:15That's what I would say to all that. But like he went in a lot of different
- 11:18directions. They talked about a lot of things.
- 11:21I'm not, everybody feels uncomfortable talking about pornography and masturbation
- 11:24and all that. The whole podcast was very good.
- 11:27You should listen to it. There's so many just good techniques because he gives
- 11:31a lot of good ideas of just changing your mindset about these things,
- 11:36about these things so that you don't give in to something and become mastered by your addictions.
- 11:43So overall, Dr. K is amazing. I would have to say that he's very brilliant,
- 11:47but I don't know where he's at because I don't know, did they cut some stuff
- 11:51out that might've give us a little bit more truth of the matter of what they talked about.
- 11:56All right, so if you've enjoyed this video, hit this video on this side and
- 11:59I'll see you on the other side.
