Latest / Claymore: Become Who You Are / # 740 Father Gannon of Courage International: The Church's Unchanging Morality, Love Other's in the Truth
Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: And so and the beautiful thing about it is that the Catholic Church's teaching on morality have never changed.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: We've seen, you know, some of our brothers and sisters in other Christian faiths start voting on morality in their assemblies.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: The church Catholic Church doesn't do that.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: You know, it's what God is a couple of things come to mind.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, just look at them some of these churches that fly the rainbow flag.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: And again, we're called to love all those people, right?
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: Christ came.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: I I didn't come to condemn the world.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: I came to save the world.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: And John Paul, again in Veritata Splendor and Evangelium Vitae and other places, say, hey, the number one liberation we need is from sin, of course.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: When we're talking about someone with same-sex attraction, uh Father, that comes to courage, like you said, you know, this is not about shock treatment, is it?
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: You know, reparative conversion therapy.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: And this is not anything like that.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: You know, I just want to make this clear, especially for our younger audience, because they're taught, you know, you have to allow people in same-sex relationships uh to be married, otherwise they can't love one another.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: And of course they can love one another.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: And we're all called to love one another.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: In fact, Father, 99.9999% of the people that I love, I'm not having any type of sexual relationships with, right?
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, we're called to love.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: And and uh and one of my brothers was sexually abused, actually, uh, when he was a child.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: We never knew about it until he got older, and and man, the dysfunction that came into his life from that sexual abuse story.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Well, anyways, he got into a same-sex relationship uh because of a therapist.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: But, anyways, he found his way back into the church, father, and on his deathbed, I'm the oldest of five, he was the fourth one down.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: He he was the one that came back into the church.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: He was the one receiving the sacraments.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: And on his deathbed, he literally brought us back.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: I won't go through that whole story, but it's in it, he brought us back into the church because we forget the eternal perspective on this, right?
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: And what love has been reduced down to a feeling and then down to this sexual act taken out of the sacred meaning behind it.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: So, so again, when I come into courage, father, as someone that's uh has some same-sex attractions, I'm not being forced to go there, first of all.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: And and so when I walk in, I'm looking for liberation.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: My point is I'm looking for liberation from sin.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: I'm feeling something, and I I want the truth of things, right, Father?
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, is this not what we're trying to help them do?
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: That's exactly right.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: You know, and the church doesn't dispatch personal experience.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: I'm going through a personal experience of sorrow, of grief, of of confusion.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: And we know especially an adolescent hits all of those sexual desires, they say, come on strong, they've never seen this before, they're very confused, and uh, and because we have a fall in human nature, that's that's so important.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: But uh, and what one of the fundamentals about moral theology is that truth of God is prior to conscience, and so conscience has to be formed according to the truth.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Conscience is not just whatever I feel like, and then also uh it's and it truth is prior to experience.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: And we all know this, right?
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: You know, you're in traffic and someone cuts you off and you want to curse them or go, wow.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: And we know that's not that's a sinful response.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: I d I don't, you know, that's good.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And so the same thing goes, we can have immediate arise of passions, but that doesn't dictate truth.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: What dictates truth is from outside, Jesus Christ our Lord.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: But it's a truth that's going to resonate with our supernatural DNA, because in the end, when you get even deeper on this, of course, we're all made in the image and likeness of God.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: So despite we have different skills, we have different talents, we have different experiences, but we all desire for happiness.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: And because we're we're our blueprint is as the image and likeness of God, when then we will only find true happiness in in seeking God, in imitating the ultimate man, Jesus Christ.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: And of course, the only perfect human being, our blessed mother.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: And so when we look to them for how a life, a Christian life should be led, then that is ultimately the template where we only can find true happiness and we're truly set free.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Sin and slaves.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: And we and that's a constant theme within the Old Testament with the new it was the downfall of Israel.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: It was warni w Moses' warning to Israel in Deuteronomy, and it's our Lord and our Lord's words and John the Baptist's words repent, repent, you know, because we're all sinners.
