- 0:30I Hate Talking: Welcome to episode 114 of I Hate Talking.
- 0:34I Hate Talking: Hi everyone.
- 0:34I Hate Talking: So, in this particular episode, we will be discussing the word or phrase, or in this case, I suppose, an acronym.
- 0:45I Hate Talking: Oh wow, OK, another acronym.
- 0:47I Hate Talking: OP OK.
- 0:51I Hate Talking: This is the word I hear so often in my life right now.
- 0:56I Hate Talking: It's true, and the kids use it in a way that I typically do not use it.
- 1:01I Hate Talking: Oh, really?
- 1:02I Hate Talking: How do you use it?
- 1:03I Hate Talking: So the way that I would use the word OP would be original poster in the Reddit world.
- 1:10I Hate Talking: OK.
- 1:12I Hate Talking: Referring back to the content creator of the main article.
- 1:17I Hate Talking: In Reddit.
- 1:19I Hate Talking: So like, In the Reddit, what is this thing or something, a OP might post about something that they cannot identify and share the picture with the internet world, and people try to identify it and they would refer to the person that posted that original question as OP.
- 1:38I Hate Talking: OK, right.
- 1:39I Hate Talking: Yes, I've seen that before.
- 1:41I Hate Talking: So original poster.
- 1:42I Hate Talking: Yes, but the kids use it in a different way.
- 1:46I Hate Talking: So share overpowered.
- 1:48I Hate Talking: I've had to ask them before cause they'll be like, that's so OK.
- 1:52I Hate Talking: And I have thought that before, like you said, like my thought went to Reddit with original poster kind of thing, and I was confused.
- 2:00I Hate Talking: They've told me no, that means overpowered.
- 2:03I Hate Talking: So just like a lot of power or really good.
- 2:07I Hate Talking: Yes, and that's probably coming mainly from the gaming world that different weapons or things that enhance their characters' abilities are OP.
- 2:19I Hate Talking: It can also mean a whole bunch of different things.
- 2:23I Hate Talking: So according to acronym Finder.com, Based on rank Opportunity.
- 2:31I Hate Talking: OP for opportunity is shortened.
- 2:35I Hate Talking: OK.
- 2:36I Hate Talking: Used mainly within the advertising world.
- 2:40I Hate Talking: So.
- 2:41I Hate Talking: An ad might yield different OP opportunity in terms of how many people click through or buy their product.
- 2:50I Hate Talking: Opinion.
- 2:51I Hate Talking: Same idea, OK.
- 2:55I Hate Talking: Which would be probably more frequently used in the phrase op ed.
- 3:01I Hate Talking: Opinion editorial, right?
- 3:04I Hate Talking: Isn't that what that means?
- 3:05I Hate Talking: I have no idea.
- 3:06I Hate Talking: I believe it.
- 3:07I Hate Talking: I've heard, I've heard that phrase before.
- 3:09I Hate Talking: I didn't know it.
- 3:10I Hate Talking: I never thought about what it meant.
- 3:11I Hate Talking: I guess I better check because I think it means opinion editorial.
- 3:17I Hate Talking: OK.
- 3:17I Hate Talking: Well, Merriam-Webster's simply defines op ed as a page of special features usually opposite the editorial page of a newspaper.
- 3:26I Hate Talking: Interesting.
- 3:26I Hate Talking: OK, so the opposite of what the newspaper wants you to believe.
- 3:31I Hate Talking: Yes, apparently It is the page opposite of the editorial page.
- 3:37I Hate Talking: I mean, it's similar, you thought it meant opinion of it.
- 3:41I Hate Talking: Right.
- 3:42I Hate Talking: So, I mean, it stands similar category, right?
- 3:45I Hate Talking: Opposite of it or opinion of it.
- 3:48I Hate Talking: Interesting.
- 3:50I Hate Talking: So there you go.
- 3:52I Hate Talking: No, it doesn't really have.
- 3:54I Hate Talking: Anything to do with opinion, it is simply the placement.
- 3:57I Hate Talking: In the newspaper and that was from Apparently 1931.
- 4:03I Hate Talking: OK, back when newspapers were popular.
- 4:09I Hate Talking: No, opposite, opposite, not opinion.
- 4:12I Hate Talking: So op ed means opposite of.
- 4:15I Hate Talking: OK.
- 4:16I Hate Talking: Output OK.
- 4:21I Hate Talking: And what's that category for?
- 4:23I Hate Talking: Like outputs, inputs, probably more within the vein of like designs or Circuitry or things like that.
- 4:34I Hate Talking: OK.
- 4:34I Hate Talking: It can mean simply opposite, so there you go, operator.
- 4:40I Hate Talking: Probably used within more military context.
- 4:44I Hate Talking: OK, optical.
- 4:46I Hate Talking: Opera OK.
- 4:51I Hate Talking: Original poster.
- 4:53I Hate Talking: So there you go.
- 4:53I Hate Talking: Original poster is is above overpowered.
- 4:57I Hate Talking: Yes.
- 4:59I Hate Talking: One piece referring to the anime series.
- 5:01I Hate Talking: Other people, Ocean Pacific.
- 5:06I Hate Talking: Opus as it relates to the music work.
- 5:11I Hate Talking: Mr.
- 5:13I Hate Talking: Holland's opus, yep, and then overpowered.
- 5:16I Hate Talking: So we finally made it overpowered amount of times this season in our house, that would be number 1 though.
- 5:22I Hate Talking: The list goes on, and these are ranked by number of stars 1 through 4, and we're still on the 5-st meetings.
- 5:30I Hate Talking: So there's actually quite a bit of 5-star meetings.
- 5:34I Hate Talking: There's a French over professional, which means professional worker, Order of precedence, Overland Park located in Kansas.
- 5:46I Hate Talking: Old patient oral presentation.
- 5:50I Hate Talking: Outpatient Order of the Pelican.
- 5:55I Hate Talking: Oxidative phosphorylation.
- 5:58I Hate Talking: Optical power, referring to like the power of a telescope or binoculars or something.
- 6:05I Hate Talking: Osteoporosis, off-peak operating procedures.
- 6:10I Hate Talking: Some Finnish word that I cannot pronounce that refers to some sort of programming site.
- 6:17I Hate Talking: Opening post in regards to internet message boards, order processing outreach program, Olympic Peninsula, located in Washington state.
- 6:28I Hate Talking: Office of Policy in the Social Security Department.
- 6:32I Hate Talking: Optimus Prime from the Autobots of the Transformers.
- 6:37I Hate Talking: Operating pressure, old Persian.
- 6:40I Hate Talking: And operator panel operator panel.
- 6:44I Hate Talking: Those are all the 5-star listings and then it goes on to 4s and 3s and beyond.
- 6:51I Hate Talking: So we'll save all our listeners the time of reading that list, but that's on acronym Finder.com for OP if you wanna go look at it.
- 6:59I Hate Talking: Holy moly, that's so much.
- 7:01I Hate Talking: So is it, I mean, it's legitimately.
- 7:03I Hate Talking: It's just based on what context and group you're talking to then.
- 7:08I Hate Talking: I suppose so.
- 7:10I Hate Talking: It says that there's 115 definitions for OP.
- 7:15I Hate Talking: On acronym Finder.com.
- 7:17I Hate Talking: Do you wanna know a way you can make our kids mad?
- 7:20I Hate Talking: I don't know, you could call them UP, I guess.
- 7:23I Hate Talking: Well, maybe I was saying, thinking that when you, they say OP because they say it so often.
- 7:29I Hate Talking: You could yell out like Optimus Prime or something like that.
- 7:34I Hate Talking: They will not find that funny.
- 7:36I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 7:37I Hate Talking: They might not even know who Optimus Prime is.
- 7:39I Hate Talking: They know the Transformers, but I don't know if they know the character Optimus Prime is like the main character in the Transformers.
- 7:45I Hate Talking: They probably don't know one piece either.
- 7:48I Hate Talking: You don't probably don't even know one piece.
- 7:50I Hate Talking: -- Is that a -- band?
- 7:51I Hate Talking: Oh, the anime series?
- 7:52I Hate Talking: -- Oh -- no, I thought it was a band because that one is above.
- 7:56I Hate Talking: Original poster and overpowered.
- 8:00I Hate Talking: Have you seen that show before?
- 8:03I Hate Talking: One Piece, no, I'm aware of it, but I don't think I've particularly watched it.
- 8:08I Hate Talking: Ghost in the Shell is my particular anime series that I would watch.
- 8:13I Hate Talking: Oh, that's a good one.
- 8:15I Hate Talking: I guess we have a new show to watch then.
- 8:18I Hate Talking: I think I've tried to make you watch it one time and it, it didn't work.
- 8:22I Hate Talking: So That is our word or phrase of the episode, OP.
- 8:29I Hate Talking: And specifically thinking of how our kids use it in reference to video games and the different buffs or weapons that they may have within said video games as being overpowered.
- 8:42I Hate Talking: But Also referring to it as perhaps both of ours more common usage in reference to original poster in Reddit.
- 8:52I Hate Talking: And different website.
- 8:55I Hate Talking: Things of that nature.
- 8:57I Hate Talking: Message boards, indeed.
- 8:59I Hate Talking: Yeah, so I guess it definitely depends on the context, the way our kids use it.
- 9:05I Hate Talking: Saying overpowered, would you consider that a positive thing or negative?
- 9:10I Hate Talking: I think it's typically used in more of a negative connotation where it's like sort of a diss on a person that they are winning the video game just because they are using an OP.
- 9:22I Hate Talking: Thing within the video game.
- 9:25I Hate Talking: Like they didn't earn it, they cheated.
- 9:27I Hate Talking: Or you can use the very last two star definition for OP ordinance publication.
- 9:36I Hate Talking: Ordinance like city ordinance, city ordinance publication.
- 9:41I Hate Talking: OK, well, I guess the city programmer probably uses that a lot.
- 9:46I Hate Talking: They might.
- 9:47I Hate Talking: Mm.
- 9:48I Hate Talking: They may indeed Acronyms are crazy cause you could just make anything an acronym, right?
- 9:55I Hate Talking: Yeah, like scuba or laser or taser, radar.
- 10:01I Hate Talking: So, uh, do you want me to show my hand or do you want to keep?
- 10:05I Hate Talking: A mystery alive.
- 10:07I Hate Talking: Well, I guess in blackjack, you show your hand now in.
- 10:11I Hate Talking: The games of chance.
- 10:13I Hate Talking: Yeah, we've been playing blackjack we've been.
- 10:14I Hate Talking: As all good parents do, right?
- 10:19I Hate Talking: Teaching your elementary kids how to.
- 10:21I Hate Talking: Use poker chips and play.
- 10:24I Hate Talking: That's what we've been doing at nights nowadays.
- 10:26I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 10:27I Hate Talking: I mean, it does help with their math skills.
- 10:29I Hate Talking: Yeah, I mean, our six year old's good when we play blackjack.
- 10:33I Hate Talking: He's having to count to 21 and figure it out, and he's doing good.
- 10:38I Hate Talking: Doing well.
- 10:40I Hate Talking: But that's not what you're referring to when you're talking about showing your hand.
- 10:43I Hate Talking: No, when we were dating, we weren't even married yet.
- 10:47I Hate Talking: There was an acronym, I won't say what it is, about your job, and I didn't know how to spell.
- 10:53I Hate Talking: Your job thing, so I just.
- 10:56I Hate Talking: Use an acronym myself to shorten it.
- 10:59I Hate Talking: And I remember you being so impressed.
- 11:02I Hate Talking: You were like, whoa, how did you know to use that?
- 11:04I Hate Talking: I was like, uh, in my head it was cause I didn't know how to spell it.
- 11:08I Hate Talking: Indeed I do remember that happening, happening.
- 11:12I Hate Talking: Yes, but I did you know that's why I did it?
- 11:14I Hate Talking: No, -- I did not know that's why -- you did that.
- 11:16I Hate Talking: Why did, why did you have to, because you couldn't.
- 11:18I Hate Talking: Text it, you can spell it in a text format is what you're saying.
- 11:22I Hate Talking: I see.
- 11:23I Hate Talking: I see.
- 11:24I Hate Talking: And I didn't know how to spell it, so I just did the initials.
- 11:29I Hate Talking: -- And you were so -- impressed.
- 11:32I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 11:32I Hate Talking: I remember that instance, and I do remember being impressed.
- 11:35I Hate Talking: So there you go.
- 11:36I Hate Talking: Are you less impressed now that you know, or are you more impressed that I kept it a secret for 18 years?
- 11:42I Hate Talking: I guess that's.
- 11:43I Hate Talking: So, since OP had so many different definitions for the acronym, I was curious if there is a particular acronym that has the most definitions.
- 11:54I Hate Talking: And according to Encyclopedia Brit Britannica and Wikipedia, That the acronym SA SPA is the most definitions for a particular acronym with 239 definitions according to acronym Finder.com.
- 12:15I Hate Talking: Holy moly, OK, don't tell me yet.
- 12:17I Hate Talking: Let me see if I can figure any out.
- 12:19I Hate Talking: The only one that's coming to my mind is a spa, like you go get massages.
- 12:24I Hate Talking: Right, that's just a word, not an acronym.
- 12:26I Hate Talking: OK, so spa, sensor cent I was gonna say central, but that's not it, um, seasons processing association.
- 12:40I Hate Talking: I, I can't even think of a single one.
- 12:42I Hate Talking: So it's not specifically an acronym, it's more of a shortening of a word.
- 12:48I Hate Talking: There's a lot of stuff with SPA referring to Spanish or Spain, and that's why it has so many.
- 12:54I Hate Talking: There's also a lot of acronyms that have to do with the word special and then whatever the PA is there can also be a lot of school and then whatever the PA is like school of Performing Arts.
- 13:10I Hate Talking: There's a lot associated with sales.
- 13:13I Hate Talking: That Have that as well as student.
- 13:17I Hate Talking: Or senior, that's what I'm about to say that that's why I came up with like senior production and analyst or something like that, senior program assistant, student progress and achievement as examples.
- 13:30I Hate Talking: There's a lot of Student and senior -- ones in here as well as -- special.
- 13:35I Hate Talking: So SPA is the most common initials.
- 13:39I Hate Talking: The acronym with the most different definitions, yes, according to these sources.
- 13:45I Hate Talking: So you would know it.
- 13:46I Hate Talking: I mean, I guess there's acronyms that I use at work that are just so commonly used that they're basically words and I may not even know what they mean.
- 13:57I Hate Talking: I mean, I know conceptually what they mean, but I don't know necessarily what they stand for.
- 14:00I Hate Talking: I know them though?
- 14:02I Hate Talking: These are because you're in your field.
- 14:04I Hate Talking: No, these are like not even field-specific acronyms, -- but like company-specific -- acronyms.
- 14:08I Hate Talking: So, SPA.
- 14:11I Hate Talking: There's a lot.
- 14:13I Hate Talking: Spa.
- 14:15I Hate Talking: But most people don't call acronyms by the sound, right?
- 14:20I Hate Talking: You call it SPA.
- 14:21I Hate Talking: Yes, SPA.
- 14:24I Hate Talking: Or you just, in some of these I don't think are true acronyms like Spain.
- 14:30I Hate Talking: Or like the team shortenings of the three-letter code for the World Cup and things like that.
- 14:36I Hate Talking: Sometimes you might say them as like the word, but I think most times you would say the entire country name.
- 14:45I Hate Talking: Like Germany or Spain.
- 14:48I Hate Talking: I mean, I guess like.
- 14:50I Hate Talking: You might say, What's CVG?
- 14:55I Hate Talking: Which one was that?
- 14:56I Hate Talking: I have no idea.
- 14:57I Hate Talking: They just played today, I think.
- 15:00I Hate Talking: Central, I don't know.
- 15:03I Hate Talking: I don't wanna offend anyone.
- 15:04I Hate Talking: Look it up.
- 15:05I Hate Talking: Maybe it's not CBD.
- 15:07I Hate Talking: -- What -- is they play Uruguay.
- 15:11I Hate Talking: Yeah, Uruguay, it wasn't CBG.
- 15:14I Hate Talking: Cabo Verde Is who played Uruguay.
- 15:20I Hate Talking: Cabo?
- 15:22I Hate Talking: That's what my thing says.
- 15:24I Hate Talking: It says -- Cape -- Verde.
- 15:26I Hate Talking: This is Cabo in Fox Sports One it says.
- 15:30I Hate Talking: Interesting.
- 15:32I Hate Talking: I did see people wearing Cabo shirts.
- 15:35I Hate Talking: See.
- 15:37I Hate Talking: PD.
- 15:39I Hate Talking: Well then Cabo, yeah, Cabo wouldn't be a P, it would be Cape, Cape Verde.
- 15:44I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 15:46I Hate Talking: I don't know what to tell you, bud.
- 15:48I Hate Talking: This is what my phone says.
- 15:49I Hate Talking: CPV though, right?
- 15:52I Hate Talking: CPV as Cabo Verde.
- 15:54I Hate Talking: Cabo verde.
- 15:57I Hate Talking: is a country in Africa.
- 15:59I Hate Talking: Officially, the Republic of Cabo Verde.
- 16:05I Hate Talking: It's in central Atlantic Ocean, 500 kilometers off of West Africa.
- 16:13I Hate Talking: It's got 10 volcanic islands.
- 16:16I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 16:18I Hate Talking: Anyway, my point being that when you see the word SPA as referring to The team of Spain in the World Cup, you're not going to say spa or SBA, you're going to say Spain, right?
- 16:32I Hate Talking: Well, it's like.
- 16:32I Hate Talking: Us, right, our country.
- 16:35I Hate Talking: It says USA we don't call it us.
- 16:40I Hate Talking: Asa use, it's USA.
- 16:46I Hate Talking: Yeah, but you might call Cape Verde CVP.
- 16:48I Hate Talking: Yeah, like USA.
- 16:51I Hate Talking: Right.
- 16:53I Hate Talking: You say that you don't.
- 16:55I Hate Talking: Say use.
- 16:57I Hate Talking: So if it's a shortening, you say the entire word.
- 16:59I Hate Talking: If it's a true or semi-true acronym, you would pronounce the letters.
- 17:04I Hate Talking: Is that the rule that we're landing on?
- 17:08I Hate Talking: I don't think so.
- 17:09I Hate Talking: What's the Ivory Coast?
- 17:11I Hate Talking: That's the other one that I'm thinking of.
- 17:12I Hate Talking: CIV, see, maybe that's why I was getting confused.
- 17:16I Hate Talking: So that's the coast of ivory, I suppose.
- 17:19I Hate Talking: CIV.
- 17:21I Hate Talking: So would you say CIV or would you say Ivory Coast, or would you say SIV?
- 17:24I Hate Talking: Yeah, I wouldn't say SIV.
- 17:27I Hate Talking: I would say either CIV.
- 17:28I Hate Talking: I'd probably look it up, because I unfortunately don't know what it stood for.
- 17:33I Hate Talking: And then I'd call it Ivory Coast.
- 17:36I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 17:37I Hate Talking: But that one's sort of in line with being an acronym, similar to Keeper.
- 17:44I Hate Talking: Do you only call it USA because you live there and that's sort of.
- 17:49I Hate Talking: Familiar term to you?
- 17:52I Hate Talking: Other people would just say United States of America.
- 17:54I Hate Talking: Maybe, I think people call it the states.
- 17:57I Hate Talking: In my experience, right?
- 18:00I Hate Talking: What about you?
- 18:01I Hate Talking: Dealing with the people from other countries, I feel like people most commonly call it the states.
- 18:07I Hate Talking: Mm Yeah, states, I guess.
- 18:10I Hate Talking: America, I don't, I'm not very frequently heard it referred to as the United States of America, all, all in one.
- 18:19I Hate Talking: It's one of the more shortened things, US, America, states.
- 18:24I Hate Talking: Yep, indeed.
- 18:26I Hate Talking: Now, if we're talking about acronyms, there's the United Kingdom, I think we usually call it the UK.
- 18:32I Hate Talking: Yeah, that's true, but you don't call it.
- 18:34I Hate Talking: Uh No, you know what I mean?
- 18:39I Hate Talking: It's the UK, the United Kingdom.
- 18:42I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 18:42I Hate Talking: Interesting.
- 18:44I Hate Talking: So, a bit of a rabbit trail down into the Acronyms of or shortening formed of country codes as it relates to the World Cup all because of SPA because of the most.
- 18:58I Hate Talking: Widely used acronym for a variety of different things.
- 19:02I Hate Talking: So you go by your.
- 19:07I Hate Talking: First, middle, and last name, fairly often.
- 19:11I Hate Talking: I do.
- 19:13I Hate Talking: And when we write it out, we often go by our children's also.
- 19:18I Hate Talking: But we have our youngest shares your middle name, and then obviously shares your last name too.
- 19:24I Hate Talking: Hm.
- 19:25I Hate Talking: So does that make it complicated that y'all have the same middle and last name?
- 19:30I Hate Talking: No, I don't think so.
- 19:33I Hate Talking: I've never run into any instances where that was a difficulty.
- 19:37I Hate Talking: -- But are you glad that he doesn't share the first initial -- of your?
- 19:40I Hate Talking: Yes, that's true.
- 19:41I Hate Talking: I would, I suppose that would have been a Reason for not naming him the same.
- 19:49I Hate Talking: First initial, like that would have precluded all names that started with my same letter.
- 19:55I Hate Talking: We Had a name that we were gonna name him.
- 20:01I Hate Talking: But by the time we got to his name, we knew his middle name would be yours because all of our children's middle names are grandparents' middle names.
- 20:12I Hate Talking: And because we lost our 4th child, we weren't gonna reuse that middle name.
- 20:19I Hate Talking: So essentially, what is our 4th child now, but was, is truly our 5th child.
- 20:26I Hate Talking: We had to come up with another middle name.
- 20:29I Hate Talking: We discussed using our parents, but then that gets tricky, right?
- 20:34I Hate Talking: Cause which parent do you choose or do you keep having kids to use all of the parents.
- 20:39I Hate Talking: So we opted for your middle name instead.
- 20:43I Hate Talking: Yep.
- 20:45I Hate Talking: And because of his acronym, we could not use our ideal first name.
- 20:50I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 20:52I Hate Talking: We started saying like this is gonna be his name and then you noticed it fairly quickly.
- 20:57I Hate Talking: But you were like, oh, can't do that because it ended up being a bad word, right?
- 21:02I Hate Talking: Yep.
- 21:04I Hate Talking: The other thing that we did.
- 21:05I Hate Talking: Not necessarily on purpose in the beginning, but on purpose towards the end, since we do have 4 kids, is that they're all in alphabetic order.
- 21:12I Hate Talking: It does make it really nice for like legal forms and things that they're just in order all the same time, uh, because it will either be sorted by age or it will be sorted by name.
- 21:26I Hate Talking: And even if it's sorted by last name, then first name or exclusively by first name, it is all in the same order all the time, right?
- 21:35I Hate Talking: Yeah, yeah, in the beginning that was not intentional.
- 21:38I Hate Talking: It happened.
- 21:39I Hate Talking: But yeah, I guess it's not a spoiler if we say it, but obviously we have all boys, no girls, but at our last pregnancy, you wanted, if it was a girl, you're really rooting for Zaria, which was always in the running for all of the names.
- 21:57I Hate Talking: I think Zaria is beautiful.
- 21:58I Hate Talking: I remember being like, no, it's a Z.
- 22:01I Hate Talking: You just want that cause once we hit Z, we're done.
- 22:04I Hate Talking: No, that wasn't My only reason, but only reason, -- but that was in there a little -- bit of a reason, but you didn't there's, there's names after.
- 22:16I Hate Talking: Zaria like a Ze or something like that.
- 22:21I Hate Talking: But, but then, no, I don't think so because then the initials would still be the same.
- 22:25I Hate Talking: So I think we would have had to abandon the -- alphabetical nature -- start back at the beginning -- or -- like name them Ampersand or something.
- 22:32I Hate Talking: Start using numbers or something.
- 22:37I Hate Talking: Well, numbers would come before letters, so that wouldn't work.
- 22:40I Hate Talking: I think you'd have to use a special character like an ampersand or a dash or a slash or something like that.
- 22:45I Hate Talking: Yeah, that would be good.
- 22:47I Hate Talking: You could just name them like slash.
- 22:48I Hate Talking: But it would be actually the slash.
- 22:52I Hate Talking: Icon as their name.
- 22:54I Hate Talking: I'm sure somebody has that out there, probably.
- 22:57I Hate Talking: I'm looking at the keyboard to see if there's any other ones that would be good.
- 23:01I Hate Talking: Slash is probably the best.
- 23:04I Hate Talking: Or dash dash would work, yep.
- 23:07I Hate Talking: Star star, but that's really the asterisk.
- 23:12I Hate Talking: Star is not a correct, no, it's probably used more within the cell phone era as being star, but 360, that's an asterisk.
- 23:24I Hate Talking: Why do I have that number in my head?
- 23:27I Hate Talking: I don't know what 360 is.
- 23:29I Hate Talking: Is that the, is that the um.
- 23:33I Hate Talking: Caller ID, uh, probably that's like what you.
- 23:37I Hate Talking: Dial the Call somebody back if it's an unknown number or something.
- 23:42I Hate Talking: And then pound sign, that's another one that has been co-opted because now it's a hashtag, but hashtag was not the original name of that particular icon.
- 23:51I Hate Talking: Star 360, is it a 60?
- 23:55I Hate Talking: Are you getting like wildcard results on search engines because of star being like a wildcard thing?
- 24:02I Hate Talking: It's coming up with things like, like 360 or some educational program.
- 24:10I Hate Talking: Star 60 is a code used on AT&T phones to activate call block.
- 24:16I Hate Talking: Is that what you're thinking of?
- 24:17I Hate Talking: I think so.
- 24:18I Hate Talking: So 60, -- you said -- 60, -- not -- 360, OK.
- 24:22I Hate Talking: I feel like that was something we used to have to do back in the day.
- 24:25I Hate Talking: He didn't want people to know who was calling.
- 24:28I Hate Talking: He'd hit 60.
- 24:30I Hate Talking: And that would block them, block you.
- 24:35I Hate Talking: So people didn't know that you were calling, right?
- 24:40I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 24:41I Hate Talking: I never used any of these particular features, so I'm not sure.
- 24:44I Hate Talking: -- You never -- prank called anyone.
- 24:45I Hate Talking: No, I don't think I ever have, ever.
- 24:49I Hate Talking: Good for you.
- 24:50I Hate Talking: Sometimes when like, My parents would answer the phone and, or when I would answer the phone, we would pretend to be like a pizza shop or something.
- 25:00I Hate Talking: That was like the probably the closest thing to a prank call that I've ever done.
- 25:03I Hate Talking: You do that on my phone right now.
- 25:06I Hate Talking: People like all this.
- 25:08I Hate Talking: -- Oh -- yeah, we're spam callers.
- 25:09I Hate Talking: Yeah, you can just pretend to be an old woman or like a pizza shop or something.
- 25:13I Hate Talking: They don't call back after that.
- 25:15I Hate Talking: It worked for me.
- 25:16I Hate Talking: I've always do that with my spam callers and I get very, very few S spam calls now.
- 25:21I Hate Talking: I get, I need to get one of those apps that delete all my information off the web.
- 25:28I Hate Talking: Cause I fall for too many spam calls because I like to get discounts.
- 25:34I Hate Talking: So they're like, put your phone number and you get 30% off, and so I do it.
- 25:39I Hate Talking: And now everyone has my number and I get.
- 25:42I Hate Talking: I mean, it's not an exaggeration to say at least 3 to 4 spam calls a day.
- 25:48I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 25:50I Hate Talking: So that is our word or phrase OP and a variety of different discussion on country codes and phone codes and other acronyms.
- 26:01I Hate Talking: So you can always like, share, subscribe, and if you share this episode with another person, hopefully they won't 6 to you.
- 26:09I Hate Talking: Uh whatever it works.
- 26:13I Hate Talking: I want to try calling you now and try it.
- 26:15I Hate Talking: I don't know, it probably, it looks like it still works.
- 26:18I Hate Talking: It looks like it has recent documentation on Various cell phone providers' websites, so I think it still does work.
- 26:26I Hate Talking: But if you use it, and then how do you undo it?
- 26:29I Hate Talking: This is a dangerous proposition that you've made here.
- 26:33I Hate Talking: Don't say my number online.
- 26:36I Hate Talking: Don't 60 me, then I won't ever be able to call you.
- 26:40I Hate Talking: You're gonna block me.
- 26:41I Hate Talking: No, it's just for now, right?
- 26:44I Hate Talking: I don't know how you undo it.
- 26:45I Hate Talking: I was just gonna call you right now to test it out.
- 26:49I Hate Talking: -- Don't -- do that.
- 26:50I Hate Talking: It's gonna block me and then it will never work again.
- 26:52I Hate Talking: Yeah, I don't think so.
- 26:54I Hate Talking: It's just right now.
- 26:55I Hate Talking: No, don't do this, OK?
- 26:57I Hate Talking: I won't do it.
- 26:58I Hate Talking: All right.
- 26:59I Hate Talking: Maybe one of our listeners is brave enough to test it with a real phone number, and you can let us know in a comment or text or email.
- 27:07I Hate Talking: Let us know what happens with the 360, not 360, 60.
- 27:11I Hate Talking: Why is it, why is it 360?
- 27:13I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 27:15I Hate Talking: I wanna say 360, but it's.
- 27:16I Hate Talking: It's just, no, it's 60.
- 27:20I Hate Talking: There also is that phone number you'd call that was like a breakup number.
- 27:24I Hate Talking: I never use this.
- 27:26I Hate Talking: I had the time and temperature phone number memorized back when you had to call a number to find out what the weather was.
- 27:32I Hate Talking: Yeah, I was thinking about that recently, not about that, but about I took the kids to the movie theater.
- 27:38I Hate Talking: I was talking about how expensive it was last week.
- 27:41I Hate Talking: I took him to a movie, just like the summer dollar theater movie thing.
- 27:46I Hate Talking: And I was like, man, I used to have to like call this phone number and listen to everything.
- 27:55I Hate Talking: Like all their spiel to find out when the movie was.
- 27:59I Hate Talking: Life is so good now that I can just go online.
- 28:03I Hate Talking: Yeah, Seinfeld did an episode about that.
- 28:05I Hate Talking: That was like the funniest Seinfeld episode in my opinion, was when the guy did a movie.
- 28:10I Hate Talking: Call service Maybe you can show me sometime.
- 28:13I Hate Talking: I've never felt like Seinfeld was funny.
- 28:15I Hate Talking: I didn't either, but that was one of the funny ones in my opinion.
- 28:18I Hate Talking: Maybe we can watch.
- 28:19I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 28:20I Hate Talking: You can let us know your favorite Seinfeld episode and maybe we'll go watch One Piece and or Ghost in the Shell.
- 28:26I Hate Talking: Or attempt to.
- 28:28I Hate Talking: Attempt that's more like it.
- 28:31I Hate Talking: -- Or -- at least introduce our kids to Transformers so they know who Optimus Prime is.
- 28:35I Hate Talking: We need to do that.
- 28:36I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 28:36I Hate Talking: So, from your friends at I Hate Talking, until next time, remember, it is only through talking that we begin the journey to understanding.
