- 0:00Tomorrow night at the Ice Bus visiting Matthews Arena in Boston for the start of
- 0:04a home and home with Northeastern. Bob Joyce will have all the action at
- 0:08six forty five here along the Yukon Sports Network, the Varsity Network Gap,
- 0:12and the Varsitynetwork dot Com. We're joined by Tristan Newton for a few more
- 0:15minutes here to wrap up the show. Tristan, this time of year,
- 0:20you guys last year were starting to peak. You got to the Big East
- 0:25Tournament, got knocked out in the semifinals. How do you compare what you're
- 0:28experiencing this year with this team to last year's team, Because this year's team
- 0:34reached number one, you were there for six weeks, so you've had even
- 0:38more success than you did last year during the regular season. Yeah, I
- 0:42mean, you know last year, you know, January was really rough for
- 0:46us, but you know, before then we were undefeated, number two in
- 0:49the country, So it's kind of similar to where we were at the at
- 0:52the top end, just you know, playing really well, but you know,
- 0:57January ahead and it was rough, and this year we sustained and like
- 1:00our level of level of play and I got time ever wanted health that for
- 1:03a long time, so you know it's a it's a little different, but
- 1:07like I said that, my success is almost similar. We play at high
- 1:11level around uh, you know, the same time last year and this year.
- 1:15But you know, it's it's this team. It's it's a good feeling,
- 1:19you know, just trying to live in a moment here and uh,
- 1:23trying to trying to go back to back. Now only the UH Conference champions
- 1:27but you know, we want the Big East and we want the national championship.
- 1:30So we still got a long way to go. And job's not finished
- 1:33yet. Yeah, no question about it. Uh, let's talk about bouncing
- 1:37back from Creighton, because I know we talked about that a little bit on
- 1:40the post game show the other night after Villanova when you got beat there,
- 1:46Uh, would you rather lose by a bunch or by one point? What
- 1:49hurts more or what gets you more motivated? More motivated? Probably get them
- 1:55blowing out makes you more motivated. But the one that hurts the most is
- 1:57probably was my one, because you know, you could have done one of
- 2:00two more things to get the win. So I feel like that one hurts
- 2:04more. But you know, get him blown out and have no chance to
- 2:06win the game. Is it really motivates us the most? You know,
- 2:08we came back and we watched the film Man. You know, we we
- 2:13lift ourselves in the mirror and showed that we weren't invincible. We still got
- 2:17room to improve. And you know, it motivates a lot in it.
- 2:20And it showed him the Lenova game, how we came out there and we
- 2:23were locked in and ready to play and you know got to go in there.
- 2:25Yeah. Big reason that you defeated Villanova was your play obviously, and
- 2:30Cam Spencer had a twenty five point night. He almost got shut out at
- 2:35Creighton. What's your thought on him? Because he's an interesting guy. He
- 2:38runs alongside you in the backcourt quite a bit, uh, you know,
- 2:42transfer guy just like you were when you first met Cam Spencer. Did you
- 2:46have a sense that this guy could really help your team? Yeah, I
- 2:50mean that's how it is. He puts some work on and off the court.
- 2:53You know, he has a great family behind him, and I knew
- 2:55he's gonna come in here with his head straight then, you know, doing
- 2:59anything and to you know, help us win. I didn't. I didn't
- 3:01know he was the type of score he is. But you know, we
- 3:04got to practice the first day, he was you know, winn in the
- 3:06ones and showing us what he could do. So I knew he could help
- 3:08us out and you know, the shooting, and he has the type of
- 3:12personality that we need for our team, you know, uh, and it
- 3:15just it really helps us a lot. And he's you know, like like
- 3:17I've been saying, he's one of the best scores in the country. So
- 3:21you know, when he gets going, just give him the ball and let
- 3:23him, you know, let him go do his thing. You just said
- 3:27personality, Cam Spencer, all right, tell us about his personality. And
- 3:30we see him on the court. He's pumping his fist, he's going up
- 3:35and down. You see him more than we do. What what do you
- 3:38what do you think of his personality overall? I mean on the court,
- 3:40he's you know, what you see in the game is what you get.
- 3:43You know, he's he's very energetic and excited. You know. Off the
- 3:46court he's a little more calm and laid back. But you know, in
- 3:50of course he's he's he's a competitor. He wants to win everything, every
- 3:53drill and he wants to make every shot. He wants to you know,
- 3:54be perfect on the course. So what you see on game days, what
- 3:58you see every day in practice, well, i'll tell you what. Cam
- 4:00Spencer and you, Tristan Newton, have been a huge, huge addition to
- 4:05Yukon basketball these last two years. I've been impressed. I've been around for
- 4:11six years, but we really appreciate your efforts and what you do day in
- 4:15and day out, and personally, I am looking forward to these next few
- 4:19weeks because I think you guys might be able to accomplish just about anything.
- 4:24So thank you. I appreciate that. All right, that's Tristan Newton.
- 4:27Thanks to him and Dan Hurley. It's the Yukon Men's Basketball Coaches Show on
