- 0:00OK, so here are my fussy eating tips for autism and you
- 0:03definitely need to know all that is right here.
- 0:06Coming up guys, welcome back to the Astro world.
- 0:09My name is Dan, I have autism at ADHD and I'm making weekly
- 0:12videos just like this world all about helping people achieve
- 0:15greater life success being on the autism spectrum.
- 0:17So if you want to come with me on this journey and help 10X
- 0:20people's lives on the autism spectrum, then make sure to hit
- 0:22the subscribe button down below, but click on that notification
- 0:24bell. It really does help guys, what
- 0:26is going on? I know that, you know, different
- 0:28seasons come up and it seems like birthdays and holiday
- 0:30season and there's a lot of different types of food outings.
- 0:33You know, we're going to go to a restaurant with our workers or
- 0:35we're going to go here with our friends and family and family
- 0:37dinners and holiday dinners and Thanksgiving and all this kind
- 0:39of stuff. It gets a little crazy, I know,
- 0:42but it's not the end of the world.
- 0:44Autistic individuals are notorious for being fussy
- 0:47eaters, right? I myself are a fussy eater.
- 0:49Everybody in my family is a fussy eater.
- 0:50My meal family, not like growing up family, my my kids and my
- 0:53parents. So that being said, I thought
- 0:56what the best thing to do is to give you 5 really awesome tips
- 1:00about fussy eating that you can really help create a better time
- 1:04for people on the open spectrum. And it's just going to be
- 1:07amazing. OK, so guys, here we go.
- 1:09OK, guys. So the first thing is respecting
- 1:11the sensory preference. Now, sometimes it could be a
- 1:14sensory need that you don't like pasta cold or you don't like
- 1:17having your food too cold. So you have to eat it, you know,
- 1:20straight away as soon as it's served.
- 1:21And a lot of people will wait around until everyone have them
- 1:23plates before they start taking into a meal.
- 1:25But you have to respect the sensory needs.
- 1:27You know, that means like having specific eating habits or maybe
- 1:32they cannot have, you know, wet foods, touching dry foods on a
- 1:34plate. If you respect that, you can
- 1:37have an easier time having the personally or satisfactory
- 1:39actually eat with you guys. Imagine having something that
- 1:41you, you know, imagine you're a vegetarian, right?
- 1:43And so we came to give you like some steak and bacon, you'd be
- 1:47like, I can't eat it because it's not for me right now.
- 1:50For it's like for sensory issue with food, it's simple that you
- 1:53can't eat something you can't attest to.
- 1:55So think about that and respect those kind of boundaries, right?
- 1:58So #2 is creating a structured meal time routine because a lot
- 2:03of the time we'll be going to families houses for, for kind of
- 2:05like, I don't know, Christmas or Thanksgiving or something like
- 2:07that. And the routine will be all over
- 2:09the place. So if you can create a
- 2:11structured routine, even if you're not at home, if you can
- 2:14follow the same type of routine and just make sure that you're
- 2:17able to identify the fact that you're going to be outside of
- 2:19routine, you're going to be outside of your norm.
- 2:21Can I put a routine down to this to help this situation?
- 2:24You're going to have such an easier transition with that food
- 2:26because we're all after structure and routine, and
- 2:29especially autistic individuals thrive from routine and
- 2:31structure. So having a structure around
- 2:33meal times, it's a no brainer and it's super, super
- 2:36beneficial. Okay, so the next one is
- 2:38exploration of food through play.
- 2:40So encourage people on the suspension to play with their
- 2:43food a little bit to kind of explore it.
- 2:45Because if you're not exploring your food to play with it, then
- 2:47you're never going to get a chance to actually try new food.
- 2:50Say like having a fruit platter for the first time in election.
- 2:54You've never experienced those certain textures that allowing
- 2:56someone to play with it and pick stuff up and have a feel about
- 2:59it is going to be so much more beneficial for their confidence
- 3:01and they may actually try it. I just want to interrupt this
- 3:03video guys, to say thank you to today's video sponsor, Brillia.
- 3:07Brillia is a homeopathic medication which is pretty
- 3:10excellent for autism and ADHD. You know, I take this because it
- 3:13helps me with concentration. I feel less anxious, but it also
- 3:16works to help with restlessness, irritability and impulsivity and
- 3:19helps you increase clarity and concentration.
- 3:22Now Brillia is a non subscription based medication.
- 3:25It also comes for adults and children so you can check that
- 3:29out as well. Now it's supernatural.
- 3:30There's no like nasties in it and there's nothing addictive in
- 3:32it, but I would say to recommend checking out with your doctor
- 3:35first before taking any medication just to make sure
- 3:37it's cool with you. But you can get it right now at
- 3:3915% off using the code ASP 15. The link is in my description up
- 3:44here now or in my bio if you'll go try to find it.
- 3:46OK guys back to the video. Okay so the next one is
- 3:49utilizing visual support. Now all the time we can get
- 3:52worried that my assistant kid and my assistant boyfriend part
- 3:54however isn't even the food because of XY and Z.
- 3:57But one of the time it's down to visualization.
- 3:59Like if they don't know that this is what having now or
- 4:01having something else next, it can get confusing.
- 4:03So one of the things I'd like to do is prepare for you to take
- 4:06with me to somewhere. So if I don't like the meal
- 4:07ahead of me, I've always got somebody else.
- 4:09So you can always have a small kind of like visual chart that
- 4:12says this is the video I'm in now, but we also have backup
- 4:15later. So this now that later I talk
- 4:17about the now and next cards locked in my Autism Level Up
- 4:21autism membership website. Now if you're interested in
- 4:23checking that out, it's a monthly subscription for only
- 4:25$7.97. But it's awesome and it really
- 4:29educates you, and you have all the download charters, lovely
- 4:31videos and all kinds of cool stuff.
- 4:33So if you're interested, go to levelofautism.net.
- 4:36OK, so the last one we're talking about is offering a few
- 4:38choices within limits. Like you don't want to have an
- 4:40approach where you're saying like, OK, we'll try everything
- 4:43out. You know, you're going to have
- 4:45to have some kind of like finite way of saying, OK, well, this is
- 4:47what we're going to have for dinner.
- 4:48This is the backup. And other than that, we're just
- 4:50going to have to not even go home.
- 4:52You have to have realistic expectations.
- 4:53And the person on the autism spectrum also has to encourage
- 4:56themselves to have realistic expectations and go with the
- 4:59flow a little bit in terms of the fact that sometimes there's
- 5:01going to be places where you do visit.
- 5:03Is it that you're not going to be able to eat at?
- 5:04I've been there 100 million times and that's absolutely
- 5:07fine. OK, so if you want to download
- 5:09my free Autism Life Hacks PDF book, you can download it right
- 5:12now from autismhacks.net. The link is in description down
- 5:15below. So don't forget to check that
- 5:16out. If you found this video helpful,
- 5:18please give it a thumbs up and share it on Facebook and social
- 5:20media to help spread the word of helping this type of situation
- 5:25out. OK guys, I love you.
- 5:26Always peace out. See you in the next one.
