- 0:01Hello, Welcome to Heats Hot, but something's off with me.
- 0:03Just Joey T for those watching the video version of the podcast
- 0:07that's available on Spotify on my YouTube channel.
- 0:11Just Joey TI am wearing a headband that I usually wear
- 0:16when I'm in the bathroom and put a moisturizer or toner or
- 0:20whatnot on my face. My hair has gone so long that it
- 0:25is actively poking into my eyes. So even when I'm at home I'm
- 0:31wearing a headband like this just to keep the hair out of my
- 0:34eyes. Or I'm wearing a hat and I
- 0:37haven't actually done up my hair, like try to style my hair
- 0:41for I think two or three weeks now and I'm just going to the
- 0:46gym with a hat. Anytime I go off the house to do
- 0:49anything, I'm wearing a hat. But I grew up my hair early in
- 0:54the pandemic, and it's been some version of long for, I don't
- 0:58know. We're three years now since the
- 1:00pandemic started, and I've got an appointment with my hair
- 1:04stylist this week to get it to be quite a lot shorter.
- 1:09I was rewatching one of my YouTube videos from, I don't
- 1:14know, the end of about a year ago, and my hair was quite a bit
- 1:19shorter. And I think I'm going to take a
- 1:22chunk of my hair, oh, I'm going to have them cut it to be like
- 1:27half the length that it is. You can't see it exactly how
- 1:30long it is right now. But if I pull it down in front
- 1:33of my forehead, in front of my face, it definitely goes down.
- 1:36I think I can touch the tip of my nose, like the bottom of my
- 1:38nose. That's how long it is.
- 1:41I love that. Well, I don't love it, but I'm
- 1:44kind of thankful in a unthankful way that my hair has a lot of
- 1:51volume because a lot of people sometimes get comments.
- 1:55They say, oh wow, your hair looks so great, it's got so much
- 1:56volume. What do you do to it?
- 1:58And I told them there's no product in my hair and I didn't
- 2:01use a hair dryer today. I got that comment, like earlier
- 2:05this month. So I'm kind of thankful that my
- 2:07hair has a lot of volume in it because a lot of people would
- 2:10love more volume. I hear people complain about how
- 2:14the hair is a limp and flat all the time.
- 2:15You always want what you don't have, right?
- 2:18The grass is always green on the other side.
- 2:20So I actually want my hair to not have so much volume.
- 2:23And it's really annoying when my hair is shorter because my hair
- 2:27was just straight out in every which direction.
- 2:30It doesn't want to lay flat. And for shorter men's
- 2:33hairstyles, that is not usually like a desirable thing.
- 2:38But when I grew my hair out early in the pandemic, I found
- 2:41that that, oh, with the hair that I have, it's kind of nice
- 2:45have it be longer because it kind of weighs and pulls the
- 2:48hair down so that it doesn't just like fly in whatever
- 2:52direction by itself. And it's actually kind of easier
- 2:54to style, but it's sometimes long hair is annoying.
- 2:59I don't know how people that was super long hair.
- 3:01Usually girls that have hair that is down to their neck or
- 3:06below their shoulders have really long hair.
- 3:08It just sounds like super annoying.
- 3:11I mean my hair is not even that long.
- 3:13Honestly by men's standards is kind of on the longer side, but
- 3:16like hair can go way longer. It's already so annoying.
- 3:20So this week I'm getting it trimmed.
- 3:23I would get have gotten trimmed earlier except my hairstyles,
- 3:30which I love. He's great and he's where my gym
- 3:34is and he does an awesome job. It's the first time I found a
- 3:37hair stylist that first of all, I was just like a good person.
- 3:41Like it's good to chat with him, could hang out with him, but is
- 3:44also like a good hair. Styles actually understands my
- 3:48weird hair. He is not the least expensive
- 3:54person to go to for a haircut, and on my It doesn't fit into my
- 4:00budget to get a haircut from him as frequently as I would like.
- 4:05So the last time I went in for a haircut, I'm going every two
- 4:08months to get a haircut, and my hair grows fast enough that if
- 4:12the money wasn't a concern, I should be going to him every
- 4:14three weeks. So we're pushing 12 weeks,
- 4:17honestly. And I sometimes will cut my
- 4:21hair, trim the side by myself. So that's what I did about a
- 4:25month ago, but it's so unmanageable now that I'm going
- 4:28to go see him and then drop the cash that you have to, you have
- 4:32to tip your hairstylist. Honestly, it's like when you go
- 4:35to a bar that you have to tip. The bartender is kind of sort of
- 4:39like that. One of the reasons I'm getting
- 4:42the haircut now because usually these days, because I'm at home
- 4:48so much, I'll get a haircut before I go to some sort of
- 4:53event. So if I'm about to go on the
- 4:56cruise, go on a vacation, go on some sort of trip where I'll
- 4:59see, like I don't know, actual people, then I'll get my
- 5:02haircut. But I don't have any parties or
- 5:04any trips or anything coming up. But one of the reasons I'm doing
- 5:08it now is because I'm going to try to get into TikTok.
- 5:15This is how old and out of touch I am with what quote UN quote
- 5:21kids are doing these days. I had to Google like what are
- 5:26some easy to make type of TikTok videos because I need to get
- 5:34into TikTok for like marketing reasons.
- 5:36So it's partially to start getting more comfortable with
- 5:39TikTok for the business that I'm trying to start.
- 5:43As part of the strategy is marketing is so key when it
- 5:46comes to any sort of business, especially these days.
- 5:49We need to market on Instagram, on Twitter, on TikTok, on
- 5:55Facebook, like everything. The the old, not old but the
- 5:59more traditional way of advertising where you run ads on
- 6:03websites and that kind of stuff. I mean that's there's still a
- 6:07place for that, but people spend so much time on social media
- 6:10that I have to have some basic understanding of all the major
- 6:15platforms. And I don't really use TikTok,
- 6:17so I don't really understand. It's like a whole different
- 6:21role. I feel like TikTok is not like
- 6:24Twitter. And by the way, I refuse to call
- 6:25it X I'm just going to call it Twitter because X is a dumb name
- 6:28and like I'm just going to call it Twitter.
- 6:31Like that isn't like Twitter and it's not like Instagram.
- 6:33And none of those things, they're all, they're like
- 6:35Facebook or all. They're all different.
- 6:37They're all a little bit different.
- 6:38But I know that TikTok is pretty important from a marketing point
- 6:42of view. So there's the business I'm
- 6:44trying to start that eventually I'll probably need to somehow
- 6:48advertise and TikTok have a presence there at least.
- 6:50But I'm also wanting to have just my own personal I was going
- 6:55to say influencer, but I'm not. I want my own personal presence
- 7:00on TikTok as well. And Tik Tok's algorithm is also
- 7:05quite different on YouTube, for example.
- 7:07So YouTube's the platform I am the most familiar with.
- 7:11If you are able to consistently and regularly release content,
- 7:18the YouTube algorithm praises and rewards consistency.
- 7:23So my YouTube channel ages and ages ago, 3, not 8-9.
- 7:30Ten years ago. I used to post every week or
- 7:33twice a week or something like that because I was doing diary
- 7:36style vlogs and that's easy to just crunch out.
- 7:40That's before the channel morhed into what you see today which is
- 7:44all about the cruises. And I've got kind of arty
- 7:47videos, the travel videos and like the advice video, which is
- 7:50kind of fit into like a niche. And I don't do the typical
- 7:53vlogging videos on there anymore.
- 7:56And for me, I'm kind of sort of migrated a little bit away from
- 8:01YouTube. I'm not there to try to make the
- 8:04algorithms happy. I'm not there to really make
- 8:06money. Honestly, there's a way to
- 8:09monetize your YouTube channel, so if you meet certain
- 8:13requirements, you can be part of their.
- 8:15I forgot what the name of the program is.
- 8:16It's like the YouTube partner program, something like that
- 8:19where you get some of the revenue from the ads that run on
- 8:23your videos. You'll all have seen as that
- 8:26when you click on YouTube video, there's an ad that runs and
- 8:28there are maybe there's an ad in the middle and that kind of
- 8:30stuff. So obviously Google does ads,
- 8:33but the creator, whoever made that video, they can be eligible
- 8:38to meet the requirements to get a share of the ad revenue as
- 8:41well. I don't know what the
- 8:43requirements are. I was able to join the program
- 8:45like many many years ago, like 6-7 eight years ago when the
- 8:48requirements are like way, way easier.
- 8:50If I start a brand new now, I don't think I would qualify.
- 8:52But honestly you need so many views on your YouTube videos to
- 8:58actually make any remotely significant amount of money on
- 9:03that. I've got 18,000 subscribers.
- 9:06I don't put out videos regularly anymore.
- 9:07I put videos out when I feel like it.
- 9:09But I do like YouTube because it's so great for there to be a
- 9:15lid that anyone can put any sort of video out there.
- 9:17And TikTok is kind of so like the next generation.
- 9:21So I think one of the things I want to do on TikTok is go back
- 9:24to a vlogging I used to just when I'm doing my everyday
- 9:28thing, I would just turn the camera on.
- 9:30At the last time I did that was early in the pandemic where I
- 9:33did a vlog on YouTube every single day for like over 100
- 9:37days. You can literally talk about
- 9:39anything, but yeah, I'm going to start to get into TikTok if you
- 9:44all have. There's only a three of you that
- 9:47makes comments on the YouTube version of this video, but any
- 9:51of you all have any TikTok advice how to get started on
- 9:53TikTok? Put them down below in the
- 9:55YouTube comments. So it's a little bit of tangent,
- 9:59but if I'm going to be starting to do videos all the time, I
- 10:02need to look decent and this hair that I haven't cut and
- 10:06trimmed or anything in two months is not going to do it.
- 10:09So I'm getting the haircut partially so that I can start
- 10:13playing around with recording videos for TikTok that that
- 10:19that's like the main that's like the main reason every LA reason,
- 10:22you know, anytime anyone does anything in LA, it's for like
- 10:26the image, you know, in like some way shape or form.
- 10:29But you know if I'm going to start really putting myself on
- 10:31camera again on the daily or on the regular on something I throw
- 10:36on the Internet, I should. I mean, the least I can do is
- 10:39honestly like get a haircut. So there you go.
- 10:42Speaking of LA by the way, I got my car.
- 10:45I got delivered this week. Awesome.
- 10:47It came early. I'm mobile again.
- 10:51I can actually go places, but Speaking of Elway and driving, I
- 10:55live just off of Santa Monica Blvd. which is one of the major
- 11:00roads that kind of cuts through. It cuts through a whole bunch of
- 11:05different cities in the LA, in LA County, so like goes from
- 11:09Santa Monica on the West End of it and it goes to Los Angeles
- 11:14through Beverly Hills, through West Hollywood, into Hollywood,
- 11:18I think. So it it kind of is a really
- 11:20it's a one-on-one a major streets only got two or three
- 11:23lanes the stretch in West Hollywood, but they're repaving
- 11:28it. So none of the markings are
- 11:29there, but literally earlier this week, two cars ran red
- 11:35lights right in front of my face.
- 11:36So I walked to the gym and back. Most days, and literally just
- 11:41this week there's a Mini Cooper I was about to I was waiting to
- 11:45cross and the light was about to change and I hadn't crossed yet.
- 11:48But like, right in front of my eyes this Mini Cooper just like
- 11:52blatantly ran the red light that you know when you're driving,
- 11:55you're coming up to intersection and you're you're going, you
- 11:59know, the cars moving at the speed of traffic and you like,
- 12:03speed up when it turns yellow and you just barely make the
- 12:07red. Or like, the light turns red
- 12:09while you're into intersection kind of like that you're pushing
- 12:12it. That I can understand because
- 12:15like, we've all been there, honestly.
- 12:17Like the light was already red for like a bit before this guy
- 12:22even entered the intersection. And the way he was, like he
- 12:25slowed out a little bit, but it's like he was just like
- 12:28nudging his way, elbowing his way into the intersection, which
- 12:32is like very annoying for me. And then there's this other car.
- 12:35Oh my God, this, this, this effing Camry.
- 12:39I was waiting to cross Santa Monica Blvd.
- 12:43It didn't have any of the markings on it.
- 12:44So I can the drivers are a little thrown by that, but it
- 12:48still has lights and the light had turned red.
- 12:50And then the little flashing pedestrian person, like the
- 12:54pedestrian crossing sign, said you can cross.
- 12:57So I started crossing and I looked left and this can be just
- 13:00didn't see the red light, like literally.
- 13:03And I do this thing now where when you're walking as a
- 13:09pedestrian in Los Angeles, so many drivers here are not used
- 13:15to looking for pedestrians. I don't know what it is, but
- 13:19I've driven for long enough in various cities that I have
- 13:25learned the lesson to, you know, before you come out of a
- 13:30driveway, before you come out to the road, there's usually a
- 13:33sidewalk. You need to look for pedestrians
- 13:35as you like. Go from one St. to the next.
- 13:38Anytime you're at intersection, you need to look for
- 13:40pedestrians. If you have like a stop sign, if
- 13:41it's like a red light or you're pulling out of the driveway or
- 13:44like a parking lot, you always have to look for pedestrians.
- 13:47So it surprises me so many people do not look for
- 13:50pedestrians, just when they when they when they come out of a
- 13:54driveway or whatever. When they when they cross the
- 13:56sidewalk, they don't look at this shit.
- 13:58But this Camry I had started crossing and this Camry had ran
- 14:02the red light to my left. I was, like, coming at me going
- 14:04very slow to be completely honest.
- 14:06But like, she stopped, but she stopped in the middle of the
- 14:09intersection because she just didn't see the red light.
- 14:12And like, I don't know, I do this thing now where I glare at
- 14:17drivers that don't see me if I'm like, about to cross their path.
- 14:21And like, I'm on the sidewalk. There's this one crosswalk that
- 14:25I usually take between my house and the gym, and it's not an
- 14:29intersection. It's one of those zebra
- 14:31crosswalks that's just randomly in the middle of the road, which
- 14:34I don't think is the best design.
- 14:37But anyways, it's going to be one of those things where you
- 14:39have to depend on the drivers to kind of see you.
- 14:42And you as the pedestrian just kind of have to wait on the curb
- 14:47and wait for a driver that is going to slow down for you
- 14:49before you cross because it's like a major Rd.
- 14:52It's not a pedestrian crossing. That's typical that drivers
- 14:56expect drivers expect you to be. They drivers expect crosswalks
- 15:00to be at intersections. This was not in intersections,
- 15:03in the middle of a block. But yeah, that's always like it.
- 15:07That's always weird every time I have to take that crossfire
- 15:10because sometimes you get a person that sees you and you're
- 15:14kind of between parked car. So like, I kind of understand.
- 15:16But there are some drivers were like, I know they see me and
- 15:20they just like blatantly ignore the pedestrian because in LA
- 15:24sometimes it just feels like it's such a car place and a lot
- 15:30of there, a lot of LA is not very walkable.
- 15:32So I guess there's not unless you go to Hollywood and like
- 15:34that that that's a shit show with tourists and everything.
- 15:37But yeah, I I did this thing where I just, I if I'm if you're
- 15:42pulling out of the driveway, I'm like right there and you don't
- 15:44see me. Like I I will glare.
- 15:46But like, I mean one time but sometimes I just want to like
- 15:49yell at the cars. Like I was just today I was
- 15:53walking home and I was, I was on the sidewalk.
- 15:57This car coming out of driveway was only looking left.
- 16:00But you know they're only looking for cars.
- 16:01They're not looking for me. And like he comes out right in
- 16:04front of me and I almost felt like saying, hey, you need look
- 16:07both ways when you come up the driveway, you know, like just
- 16:10you're crossing a sidewalk. Do you not know how to look
- 16:12right that I can get like so effing sarcastic with that kind
- 16:16of stuff. So for me that's annoying.
- 16:18Like when when I'm at the pedestrian I'm annoyed at the
- 16:21way people drive and but when I'm driving I'm also like, I'm
- 16:26just annoyed by drivers all the time.
- 16:28I'm I'm just constantly annoyed by other drivers.
- 16:31It is so annoying. People make fun.
- 16:33That and LA people are not very good drivers.
- 16:37Someone asked me about this, actually said Oh yeah, you you
- 16:39live in LA like drivers there are like horrible right?
- 16:43I don't think drivers, initially they're not the best drivers, I
- 16:48will give you that. But I think in LA, in a weird
- 16:52way, it kind of sort of works because here are my theory.
- 16:55Everyone is kind of sort of the same level of a mediocre driver,
- 17:02what everyone kind of sort of drives in a similar fashion.
- 17:06There's compatibility, right? If you get a whole bunch of
- 17:10different types of drivers in the same place, some are far,
- 17:13some are slow, some people pay attention, some people don't,
- 17:16some people are raging, some people are not.
- 17:18I think that's where it actually might be more dangerous.
- 17:22But when everyone kind of sort of goes to similar speed,
- 17:25everyone kind of drives the same way.
- 17:27Everyone is not paying attention to the same stuff.
- 17:30In a way, it kind of sort of works because everyone's doing
- 17:32the same thing. So everyone is predictable and
- 17:35everyone around you kind of drives like you.
- 17:38The fact that everyone does the same thing, I think that's where
- 17:42it kind of sort of works. Like when you merge into a
- 17:45freeway in LA, everyone kind of merges the same way.
- 17:50So it in a weird way that works. When I was living in Washington,
- 17:53DC, and I didn't drive that much there, but I remember when I did
- 17:56drive, I had to go into like the middle of DC for whatever
- 18:00reason. That's like some people are
- 18:03driving quickly and their pants are on fire.
- 18:06Some people are not a Nasser. I thought it was actually more
- 18:09dangerous and scary because you get a mix of all sorts of
- 18:12different drivers driving all sorts of different ways.
- 18:14And that's where I feel like you get more road rage, you get more
- 18:19people like speeding. That's people are less
- 18:21predictable because you don't know if a driver coming at you
- 18:23is crazy or not crazy or they're fast or slow.
- 18:27They're aware of you. They're not aware of you.
- 18:28So, and we're away. I feel like most people, vast
- 18:31majority of people here in LA are stereotypical LA drivers.
- 18:36And it kind of sort of works. But as a pedestrian, it can be
- 18:41real annoying real fast. All right, I want to talk about
- 18:44that job situation for a hot 2nd.
- 18:49It's not going. I feel like this the first time
- 18:52where I've applied to this many jobs.
- 18:55I threw my resume out there and I pretty much have had zero
- 18:58tickers. I think the economy, the job
- 19:03market is despite what you see on the news, it really depends
- 19:07on what industry and type of job you're going for, right?
- 19:12It's been a lot in the news in the US about the unions that are
- 19:18variously taking actions. So we have like the writers, the
- 19:23actors, the auto workers, and I just heard Kaiser Permanente.
- 19:30We just want to like the hospital systems here when the
- 19:32medical systems, I think they're on their verge of striking.
- 19:34So there's all this like union potential strike action or
- 19:38actual strike action going on right now.
- 19:41So for me, I'm not a part of union though sewing resumes out
- 19:46there and not getting that much, not get, not get much response,
- 19:51which is like whatever. But I'm thinking this might be
- 19:53kind of, sort of, I don't know, God's way of telling me maybe
- 20:01you are not meant to go back to a 905 and the type of IT job
- 20:06that you were doing before, I mean.
- 20:10I've said before I would kind of sort of like it.
- 20:12Right now, I don't have a problem with it.
- 20:13I'd said before that it's not the IT work that I didn't like
- 20:17so much. It was like the work culture,
- 20:20the way my boss has treated me, that kind of stuff that I didn't
- 20:22like before. But yeah, on the flip side of
- 20:27that, I'm pretty lazy when it comes to applying for jobs.
- 20:30I have one resume that I sent to everyone and I just throw that
- 20:33resume out. I fill out the form name, phone
- 20:37number, e-mail, I just blah blah blah.
- 20:38And I just hit submit and I'm not doing the custom cover
- 20:42letters. And I was reading there was this
- 20:45debate where on LinkedIn or something I guess whether it
- 20:50would be better to try to message someone like the manager
- 20:56or like the executive for like the team that works for the
- 21:00company you're applying to for that job or you should just kind
- 21:04of put the resume out there. But so this person that made
- 21:06this post on LinkedIn, where the post was basically, if you're
- 21:09gonna apply to a job posting at a company, like don't try to
- 21:15message the manager or the VP or the director or whoever, because
- 21:20you know, like a million people would do that and he's like a
- 21:23director of whatever VP person. And he says, well, if you
- 21:27message me, I'm just going to say you have to go through HR
- 21:29anyways. But then all these other people
- 21:31respond and say, oh, I would have got this job that have not
- 21:34if I didn't message the whoever and then that's how I got this
- 21:37job. So like there's all that kind of
- 21:38stuff. I'm also the thought that I
- 21:41don't want to have to message and whatever bugs someone
- 21:45because when I was a manager or director or whatever in my
- 21:49previous jobs and someone messaged me, I'd be thinking you
- 21:53need to go through HR. So yeah, I don't know if this is
- 21:57like God's way of saying, you know, work on your work, on
- 22:01starting your business and work on your whatever other stuff.
- 22:05Maybe, you know you shouldn't be going back.
- 22:08But that kind of means that it's kind of so like fate.
- 22:12And I don't really believe in fate.
- 22:15I think I kind of believe in, I don't really believe in like,
- 22:20you know, getting some sort of signal like where things are
- 22:25meant to be are not meant to be. I'm usually more of a type of
- 22:29person where it if something happens, it happens, if it
- 22:35doesn't, then it does it. But I don't usually subscribe to
- 22:39the theory that things are meant to be or not to be in the sense
- 22:43that something is fate or it's kind of sort of predetermined.
- 22:47I'm more of the thought that things are partially luck and
- 22:52chance and partially just a random chaos of the world.
- 22:59I guess that's a chaos theory, I think.
- 23:01I've never looked it up. But don't quote me.
- 23:03And also partially just actions that people take, including
- 23:06myself. That contributes to whether you
- 23:08know something happens or not, right?
- 23:11Yeah. But I've never really believed
- 23:13in faith. And something that I've always
- 23:16held is that there's, I don't believe that there's one person
- 23:20out there for everyone. I've never believed that.
- 23:24My theory has always been there could be a number of people out
- 23:31in the world that if you met them, I guess right place and
- 23:37time, you know, there's a little bit of a luck and chance that
- 23:41factors into it. But there could be multiple
- 23:44people, a number of people that if you were somehow able to meet
- 23:49them and able to develop a relationship with them, then you
- 23:55could be like very extremely happy with them.
- 23:58You could fall in love with that person.
- 24:00But I don't believe that there's only one person out there for
- 24:03everyone. And it could be possible that
- 24:07you meet multiple of those number of people or you might
- 24:12end up not meeting any of them. But I always believe that
- 24:16there's definitely a number, not just one person.
- 24:20There's multiple people out there that through luck or
- 24:23chance or circumstance or whatever, that if you're able to
- 24:27meet one or multiple of them that you could be very, very
- 24:33happy spending the rest of your life with them.
- 24:36It doesn't fit into like that fairy tale of like, oh, like
- 24:40this is like my, this is like the one, blah blah blah, blah,
- 24:43blah, blah. Yeah, I just never, ever
- 24:45subscribe to that. But I also don't believe in
- 24:48fate. Yeah, I don't believe that, oh,
- 24:52anything in my life was meant to be a certain way.
- 24:56I think sometimes it's nice in like a friendship situation to
- 25:03say to someone like, oh, you didn't get this job.
- 25:07Oh, you know what? It was meant to be like this job
- 25:10wasn't meant for you're. You're meant for something
- 25:12better. Or, you know, if you had a bad
- 25:14breakup or something, you're comforting your friend.
- 25:15It's like, oh, he's not the one you were meant to be with him.
- 25:22Those are not the types of things I think I I ever said
- 25:28that to any friends. You know what?
- 25:30I don't know, but that's because I don't believe in that stuff
- 25:36anyways. I think that's probably not
- 25:37something I would want my friends to tell me.
- 25:40Not that my friends would listen to this anyways, but yeah, so I
- 25:47don't know. The other thing I keep reminding
- 25:50myself though about this job situation is everything is
- 25:55temporary. And I was just watching on
- 25:57YouTube or doing a video and she mentioned the exact same thing
- 26:01and it's like, that really caught my ear.
- 26:02But I have come to realize this. I'm only four or five years ago
- 26:11and everything in life in a way, is temporary.
- 26:14My existence is temporary. This house is temporary.
- 26:20Jobs are kind of sort of temporary.
- 26:23The relationships you have could be temporary.
- 26:26They're very few things in life that are so permanent that if
- 26:30you commit or don't commit to something, things are so
- 26:34fleeting that you shouldn't get so caught up with it, right?
- 26:40Things will go away, but then new things will appear as well.
- 26:44I think I mentioned this once on the podcast, but sometimes I'll
- 26:48I'll say sometimes I think of myself three years ago or even
- 26:53five years ago. We just, you know, like not that
- 26:55long ago. But could you imagine your life
- 26:59today as it is three years ago or two years ago or four or five
- 27:03years ago? And every time I ask myself that
- 27:06question, the answer has always been no, I could not have
- 27:10imagined my life the way it is today, three years ago.
- 27:15You know, if I had The Time Machine and I any, any at any
- 27:19point in time over the last, like ever over like the last my
- 27:23whole adult life, at least when I was, you know, like a
- 27:26teenager, like going to school and stuff.
- 27:28Like the family life is like very whatever.
- 27:30Like obviously when I was in the ninth grade, I could have easily
- 27:33said, oh, you know, in three years when you hit Senior High,
- 27:37you're going to graduate, go to college.
- 27:39It's like okay. Yeah, I probably could have
- 27:40expected that. But ever since I graduated
- 27:44college and I came up to like the real world, pretty much like
- 27:48the everything that I've experienced, including like my
- 27:54living situation, my friendships, relationships,
- 27:58which they're not that many of and all that kind of stuff.
- 28:02The experiences I've had, the things I've experienced, it's
- 28:06it's been so like a constantly changing thing that in a way I
- 28:15just have to remind myself sometimes everything, everything
- 28:19is temporary. So being quote UN quote jobless
- 28:24is temporary. I mean, I'm not trying to give
- 28:27myself a free passage, just like sit in my house all the time and
- 28:29like not trying to make something happen, right?
- 28:33But again, that's where it goes back to my point of I feel like,
- 28:38you know, it's things that happen.
- 28:40Yes, it's a little bit of luck and chance of circumstance, but
- 28:42it's also dependent on actions that people take, including the
- 28:45actions that I take. You know, like if I want to
- 28:47change a situation, I should feel empowered to like do
- 28:52something about it. If I don't like that I don't
- 28:53have a 95 job, then I should put effort into getting a 95 job,
- 28:58right. If I'm not happy about my one of
- 29:01my relationships you know I should I should try to take some
- 29:05action. I not the type that sit around.
- 29:08I'm going to say, well this situation sucks, but I'm sure
- 29:11it's going to work out in the end without me trying to do any
- 29:15taking a sort of action to change that situation or make it
- 29:19better or whatever. And sometimes the advice I give
- 29:23people, especially if it's like a job situation, is, you know,
- 29:26what if if you if I have a friend that hates their job and
- 29:31they're always complaining about it, I would actually recommend a
- 29:34friend. Have you thought about working
- 29:37somewhere? I just I was on LinkedIn just
- 29:39now and one of my good friends from Google that I worked with
- 29:44and he got hit by the one of the mass layoffs at Google,
- 29:50unfortunately. And he just posted how he just
- 29:54had, you know, taken on some contract work after being laid
- 29:57off by Google. And then he was basically he was
- 30:02starting to explore life outside of Google because he he was he
- 30:05was cut into Google right out of college.
- 30:07He worked there for like 10 years or something like that.
- 30:11So he pretty much his entire profession career has just been
- 30:14Google. And then like Google lays them
- 30:16off. But I also remember saying when
- 30:20I was after I quit Google and he was still there and once about
- 30:24we talk and he would be like, yeah, this thing and that thing
- 30:27is so kind of messed up at working, blah blah, blah.
- 30:29And I know that type of work that he does, but I would always
- 30:32nudge him to be like and I'm not telling you to quit your job,
- 30:35you know, that's up to you. But like just see what other
- 30:38options are out there. Jobs are not permanent,
- 30:43especially in this day and age. Like anyone could be laid off at
- 30:46any moment. And like I if I find a job
- 30:50tomorrow, like a 95 job, or just work for any company, I go into
- 30:54it with the attitude that I'm just going to be in the present.
- 30:57I'm just going to take it a day at a time.
- 30:59But I'm definitely for sure not going to depend on the company
- 31:05or this employer for anything remotely longterm.
- 31:08Like you could you could you could like find me tomorrow and
- 31:11like that. Just, you know, something, if
- 31:13it's a layoff or something or someone just, yeah, just gets
- 31:18fired for some other reasons. Like companies can do that so
- 31:21the company doesn't love you back.
- 31:23So I just have to remind myself, you know what?
- 31:26If I want something and I want to pursue something, Yeah, a
- 31:30little sprinkle of luck is required.
- 31:32Sometimes you just have one of those days or weeks or months
- 31:35where you know, it's just shitty and like things are not going
- 31:37your way. We've all had bad days,
- 31:39honestly, where one thing goes wrong and nothing goes wrong and
- 31:43the third thing goes wrong and it's just like, those are days
- 31:46where you really need to just really, really trying.
- 31:49But yeah, maybe this is one of those few times where I kind of
- 31:56sort of can't believe that the universe might be nudging me.
- 32:02I don't. I'm not going to say, you know,
- 32:03it's his fate or is predetermined or this is meant
- 32:06to be that I'm having some trouble finding a nine to five
- 32:11job when I've been kind of looking at the job postings
- 32:14pretty much every single day for the last month or so.
- 32:19Yeah, I'm not gonna say this is predetermined, but it could be a
- 32:24sign possibly that, yeah, maybe some greater power, possibly
- 32:31things. I shouldn't go to the 95 right
- 32:34now, so I'm going to keep working on my business.
- 32:37I need to set up a call with some lawyers.
- 32:40I need to talk to them. Lori casters to make sure, like
- 32:43I'm starting this business, like, properly.
- 32:48But yeah, it's kind of, it's kind of weird.
- 32:49I didn't think this career break would last this long for sure.
- 32:52But when I first saw the career break, I was like, I I was, I
- 32:56was burnt out. And I didn't know.
- 33:00I mean, I could have, in retrospect now, like I can
- 33:03probably if I really tried to have just kept the job and just
- 33:08literally be doing the minimum, getting the paycheck, whatever.
- 33:12But I was so burnt out and I was pretty unhappy that, like, I
- 33:20just needed to put myself 1st. And it's.
- 33:25And it's the weird thing about money is I've had a decent
- 33:29income for most of my professional career, which I'm
- 33:31also thankful for. I've got a little bit money in
- 33:33the bank and that'll up a little bit.
- 33:35Has had a lot of, had some savings and stuff, but it's also
- 33:38one of those things where when you have the steady paycheck
- 33:44coming in, you, you have, you have problems, the paychecks not
- 33:48big enough or you know, you you can't.
- 33:51Some people, they just don't make that much money.
- 33:54And you know we're hearing about the cost of living and the
- 33:56inflation, all that kind of stuff.
- 33:57And a lot of workers, not, you know, they're not getting pay
- 34:00raises to keep up with the inflation.
- 34:02And, you know, when it's a problem to pay your bills.
- 34:05Yeah, that sucks. I mean, start to earn more and
- 34:08more money, though. Sometimes more money, more
- 34:11problems, like a different set of problems.
- 34:13Right now you, you have to pay way more in taxes and that kind
- 34:15of stuff. But also sometimes, you know,
- 34:20sometimes money isn't a problem when you have it and when you
- 34:24don't have it, it's like a whole other set of problems, right.
- 34:28So feel like money's a problem no matter where you have it or
- 34:30not. It's just a different set of
- 34:32problems. It's easy for me to, you know,
- 34:34see celebrities or people that are very financially successful,
- 34:39if you will. And from my point of like, not
- 34:41having a city paycheck come in and for me to look, watch TV or
- 34:44whatever, and look at those people and be like, Oh yeah,
- 34:47they, it must be so easy just to have like, I don't know,
- 34:51boatloads of money coming in every week, every month, every
- 34:53year. I mean, no one lives the perfect
- 34:58life. So I think I'm just a little, I
- 35:01don't know, jealous of how do you have the steady paycheck
- 35:04coming here right now? I'm a very part of my upbringing
- 35:08it this work rears head because not having that regular
- 35:13paycheck, I've been always taught to value that regular
- 35:18paycheck, the consistency, so not having it come in.
- 35:21I think after this is my 10th month into the career break, I'm
- 35:25going to have to use air quotes for that quote, UN quote career
- 35:28break, 10 months in. I think that's where it's
- 35:31starting to like wear on me a little bit that I haven't had
- 35:37steady money coming in for a while now.
- 35:40So well, we're going to keep. I'm going to try my best.
- 35:44I'm gone so lazy. I mentioned this on the last
- 35:46podcast, but I'm I'm doing better.
- 35:48I'm we're moving in with we're getting on with the the small
- 35:52business. I'm going to take it a day at a
- 35:55time and you know if there's a company out there that it's
- 35:58going to look at my resume. I won't say no, but I won't
- 36:03think it's gonna be fate or not. But yeah, if they hit me up and
- 36:07wanna give an interview, I won't say no to that and we will end
- 36:11the podcast with that. Remember the video version of
- 36:14this podcast? You wanna check out my always
- 36:17awesome ways of pushing my hair back?
- 36:20I was wearing a hat last time on the last podcast and I was
- 36:23editing the video and I noticed that the hat kept slipping back
- 36:27from the start of the video where it was on properly and
- 36:29then by the end of the video it was like slipping back.
- 36:33But anyways, yeah, video version of this podcast, it's available
- 36:37on Spotify, my headphones are coming off.
- 36:40Video version of this podcast is available on Spotify and also on
- 36:43my YouTube channel. Just Joey Teens next time.
- 36:46Bye.
