- 1:28Speaker 1: there and listening to us ramble about TikTok travers for purchases. Hey,
- 1:37Speaker 1: let's start with a synopsis. Amy and Travis travel to
- 1:43Speaker 1: New York to investigate the disappearance of Amy's uncle, and
- 1:46Speaker 1: the initial clues make them fear the worst. Stacy and
- 1:51Speaker 1: Harding directed the final installment of Mystery one on one,
- 1:54Speaker 1: with fifteen directing credits. Deadly History was her very first
- 1:57Speaker 1: project for Hallmark. She's gone on to movies like Round
- 2:00Speaker 1: and Round, Love Classified, several episodes of Holidays, and one
- 2:04Speaker 1: calls the Heart Round and Round. I need to revisit
- 2:07Speaker 1: that movie so good. It's a great movie. I need
- 2:11Speaker 1: more movies like that from Hallmark. I know this is
- 2:14Speaker 1: not where we usually talk about this, but can we
- 2:16Speaker 1: talk about the third installment of Three Wise Men? Yeah?
- 2:23Speaker 1: How do you feel about that? Well, it's a crowd pleaser.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I guess it feels a little like easy button for Hallmark. Yeah. Look,
- 2:35Speaker 1: I was kind of hard on that movie in our
- 2:37Speaker 1: review and I said, we the first one, our second one,
- 2:40Speaker 1: second one. I loved the first one. I actually had
- 2:43Speaker 1: a dream about this the other night. That I was
- 2:44Speaker 1: watching the third one and then it was great. Oh,
- 2:47Speaker 1: so I'm gonna I'm gonna hold out hope that we
- 2:51Speaker 1: finish on a high note back to the future. The
- 2:54Speaker 1: third one was terrible. Yeah, I think it's really weird.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I know, this isn't a headline episode or a mailbag episode,
- 3:01Speaker 1: and it's a I'm totally going off topic here, but
- 3:04Speaker 1: I just think it's weird. We have another football movie
- 3:07Speaker 1: and now we have another three Wiseman movie. Do they
- 3:11Speaker 1: not have any writers who can write new fresh content?
- 3:15Speaker 1: I think we have. We're gonna get lots of new
- 3:16Speaker 1: fresh contents. You know, we got Aaron craikown Tyler Hines
- 3:21Speaker 1: in the movie, filmed almost entirely in an airplane. This
- 3:23Speaker 1: is new news to me. Yeah, what movies Love Clouds? Oh,
- 3:28Speaker 1: that isn't that the same name as that Love Above
- 3:31Speaker 1: the Clouds. I don't know. Hold on, it's in my
- 3:34Speaker 1: notes for wait a hot minute, it's in my notes
- 3:37Speaker 1: for another show. We're doing. What Aaron and Tyler reunited again? Yes? Zing, zing, Well,
- 3:45Speaker 1: that's exciting. Christmas Above the Clouds? Okay, Peter Benson directed movie. Nice? Yeah,
- 3:51Speaker 1: all right, let's get back to Mystery one on one.
- 3:54Speaker 1: This installment of Mystery one on one was written by
- 3:57Speaker 1: John Christian Plumber, based on characters by Robi Bernheim and
- 4:01Speaker 1: The Goldberg, Joe Wagner, Christopher Palaha, Robin Thomas, and Miranda Edwards.
- 4:05Speaker 1: All return sadly missing is Preston Vanderslice as Bud Poor
- 4:12Speaker 1: Preston Vanderslice. He just was like, Okay, I'll sit out
- 4:15Speaker 1: on this one because it doesn't make sense for me
- 4:17Speaker 1: to be in New York with them, because I'm a
- 4:20Speaker 1: TA or whatever his role is. Back. I'm sure he
- 4:23Speaker 1: had those exact thoughts, I'll sit out on this one.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I'm sure he was like, I'll be back. I'm sure
- 4:28Speaker 1: he was like, what do you mean, I'm not in
- 4:30Speaker 1: this one? Ye can FaceTime a dude for real? Peter Benson,
- 4:35Speaker 1: speaking of plays Al Winslow, he's both an actor and director.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Most recently, he appeared in the cases of Mystery Lane.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Death is Listening, by the way. A blog post on
- 4:47Speaker 1: our website that's been popping off lately. Are people wondering
- 4:51Speaker 1: where the next Mystery Lane movie is? Where is it
- 4:55Speaker 1: is that a bird? Yeah? They like to gather outside
- 5:00Speaker 1: my laundry room window and it's open right now. Do
- 5:03Speaker 1: you want me to shut it? No? No. I went
- 5:06Speaker 1: in there the other day to shift the laundry and
- 5:09Speaker 1: there was like a whole bunch of birds there and
- 5:10Speaker 1: I was like, hey, guys, all stick off. It was
- 5:15Speaker 1: so funny. I felt like snow white there for a second.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Back to Peter Benson, he directed Return to Office earlier
- 5:24Speaker 1: this year and currently has one project and production, though
- 5:28Speaker 1: it's unclear if it's for Hallmark now. Probably this one.
- 5:31Speaker 1: No I saw it was a different name and it
- 5:34Speaker 1: was not not those actors attached to it. So I
- 5:37Speaker 1: want to be surprised if Peter Binson has like five
- 5:40Speaker 1: projects yeah, going off at various stages of development exactly.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Lauren Cardinal plays Sheriff Harry Ridgeway with ninety seven acting credits.
- 5:48Speaker 1: He's been in a lot of projects outside of Hallmark,
- 5:51Speaker 1: but you might recognize him from an episode of When
- 5:54Speaker 1: Calls the Heart in twenty nineteen or the twenty eighteen
- 5:57Speaker 1: Hallwark movie Welcome to Christmas. Michael teck Dennis plays Alie Kent.
- 6:01Speaker 1: He has forty seven acting credits and has appeared in
- 6:04Speaker 1: many Hallmark movies like Color, My World with Love eight
- 6:08Speaker 1: Gifts of Hanukkah and Raise a Glass to Love. Alison
- 6:11Speaker 1: Mariah plays Jennifer and with eighty eight acting credits. She
- 6:15Speaker 1: was last seen in Happy Howlidays from twenty twenty four.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Iris Quinn plays Eleanor Kent. Iris has eighty four acting
- 6:24Speaker 1: credits with lots of Hallmark titles, including The Wish Swap
- 6:28Speaker 1: and All I Need for Christmas, both from twenty twenty four.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Jason Sarmac plays Mark Lyons. His resume includes many lifetime
- 6:34Speaker 1: in Hallmark movies. His last appearance on Hallmark Channel was
- 6:37Speaker 1: in A Missus Miracle Christmas from twenty twenty one. Jen
- 6:42Speaker 1: McLean Angus plays Shineed Sullivan. Jen has thirty one acting
- 6:46Speaker 1: credits and last appeared on Hallmark in the movie The
- 6:49Speaker 1: More Love Grows from twenty twenty three. Deadly History was
- 6:52Speaker 1: filmed in the spring of twenty twenty one in British Columbia, Canada,
- 6:55Speaker 1: and premiered on August first, twenty and twenty one on
- 6:58Speaker 1: Hallmark Movies and Missies A Channel. I think we're gonna
- 7:01Speaker 1: see some announcements about before the end of twenty twenty five.
- 7:05Speaker 1: You know, isn't there usually like a big press or
- 7:10Speaker 1: media day Hallmark does like right before the announcement, remember
- 7:14Speaker 1: like last year they did it to like kick off
- 7:16Speaker 1: Hallmark Plus like the Upfronts. Yeah, something like that. Yeah,
- 7:22Speaker 1: you think it's coming. I don't know if it's coming
- 7:24Speaker 1: anywhere there. July fifteenth, today is July fifteenth. You think
- 7:30Speaker 1: they're gonna need to announce something by August, right, well,
- 7:34Speaker 1: or just when we get the countdown to Christmas announcements,
- 7:37Speaker 1: or maybe in true Hallmark fashion, they don't announce anything.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Perhaps just like the end of this franchise. Perhaps let's
- 7:48Speaker 1: take a quick break and come right back with our
- 7:50Speaker 1: first impressions. What was your first impression of Deadly History?
- 8:04Speaker 1: Someone hand me a pitchfork. I'm finally getting why the
- 8:10Speaker 1: mystery one on one fans were real missed off. So
- 8:14Speaker 1: my first impression is you warned us and we still
- 8:16Speaker 1: weren't ready. No, let's just talk about that for a second.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Let's just let's just talk about the elf in the room. Huh.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I thought the last thirty seconds were actually incredible. It
- 8:28Speaker 1: was a great cliffhanger if the movies were coming back. Yeah,
- 8:36Speaker 1: so good, now do you I am going to listen
- 8:42Speaker 1: to the John Christian Plumber interview. Things are fast and
- 8:46Speaker 1: furious around here. Free time doesn't exist. I will listen
- 8:49Speaker 1: to that. But a lot of people have basically told
- 8:52Speaker 1: us that in that interview, he says it's a dream.
- 8:56Speaker 1: So I'm like, all right, I can handle. That's okay
- 9:00Speaker 1: for you. Yeah, And the other the other thing people
- 9:03Speaker 1: have said have suggested is that the movie Francesca quinn
- 9:06Speaker 1: Pi reads like it might be a mystery one on
- 9:10Speaker 1: one script, like it might be the story from the
- 9:14Speaker 1: eighth movie made into a different different characters, some similarities.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Mallory Jansen is the We do one of those. Yeah,
- 9:24Speaker 1: and we did not review it. Oh and I honestly
- 9:26Speaker 1: couldn't remember how to look it up. We did not
- 9:28Speaker 1: review it. So perhaps watching it with those eyes although
- 9:33Speaker 1: I don't really want to see Bobo Amy and Travis like,
- 9:36Speaker 1: I don't want to watch it with that. I don't
- 9:39Speaker 1: want to watch it as if it's the eighth movie. Sure,
- 9:43Speaker 1: So anyway, well let's talk about what we liked. Well,
- 9:46Speaker 1: we've talked about a lot already. This episode. I am
- 9:49Speaker 1: always I don't know what it is. Peter Benson comes
- 9:51Speaker 1: on my screen and I go Peter Benson. Every time
- 9:53Speaker 1: I was thrilled to see this movie open up with him.
- 9:56Speaker 1: He did not get a ton of screen time in
- 9:59Speaker 1: this movie, really only the beginning in the end, but
- 10:02Speaker 1: he had truly the scariest scene in this movie. I
- 10:06Speaker 1: thought it was very creepy. Yes, he also commits classic
- 10:11Speaker 1: horror movie faux pause, like goes outside, leave the door open,
- 10:15Speaker 1: comes back in. There's a lot going on. Yeah, really enjoyed,
- 10:19Speaker 1: Peter Benson s al so did I and I really
- 10:22Speaker 1: really enjoyed this like spooky cold open that Hallmark gave,
- 10:26Speaker 1: Like we don't get a ton of that, and like,
- 10:29Speaker 1: like you said, it was very scary. Yeah. It's funny
- 10:34Speaker 1: because you had mentioned this and I don't. It was
- 10:37Speaker 1: this franchise we talked about and I can't remember what
- 10:40Speaker 1: episode it was, but you were like, is this the
- 10:42Speaker 1: scariest one that we've seen? Like it doesn't give horror
- 10:45Speaker 1: movie vibes to you, we're tiptoeing into that sort of
- 10:49Speaker 1: like Jolie Nystrom. Yeah, I think so too. I think
- 10:52Speaker 1: so too. What else did you like? Well? I really
- 10:57Speaker 1: enjoyed the Amy and Travis relationship progression that we get
- 11:01Speaker 1: in small and big ways when they arrive at the
- 11:04Speaker 1: police station, to find out the details about her uncle's disappearance.
- 11:09Speaker 1: He puts his hand on the small of her back
- 11:11Speaker 1: as she's walking up the stairs. Real real, nice subtle moment.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Carmela at one point refers to Travis as the boyfriend,
- 11:18Speaker 1: kind of like look at each other even they haven't
- 11:20Speaker 1: defined it well. And the best when Carmela walks away,
- 11:24Speaker 1: he goes boyfriend like. He pokes Amy about it, which
- 11:28Speaker 1: I just loved. I thought it was so funny. Yeah,
- 11:32Speaker 1: you know, the kids in front of the fire, that
- 11:33Speaker 1: was great. And then I liked Travis baring his soul
- 11:38Speaker 1: a little bit telling her about his parents, Yeah, lots
- 11:41Speaker 1: of them, how he was raised by his grandfather, and
- 11:44Speaker 1: then you know, his grandmother held on just long enough
- 11:48Speaker 1: to see him become a detective. And then we get
- 11:51Speaker 1: thank you for sharing that with me, for trusting me,
- 11:53Speaker 1: and Travis says, I trust you with my life. Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Good stuff. And then of course we get dual I
- 11:59Speaker 1: love views good stuff in the penultimate scene. Yeah, great,
- 12:03Speaker 1: good stuff. Look, I I think Chris does a really
- 12:08Speaker 1: good job at delivering all these lines too. It's so
- 12:11Speaker 1: believable and I'm just like, okay, yeah, like I can
- 12:15Speaker 1: really see like, I like these two, like they have
- 12:19Speaker 1: fire chemistry. We've talking We've been talking about for seven movies.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Now it's this movie here where I'm like, oh, they're
- 12:27Speaker 1: like one true love kind of status, right yeah, and
- 12:32Speaker 1: it makes it even harder to accept that this was
- 12:36Speaker 1: the end. Yeah, yeah, I agree, I absolutely agree. I
- 12:41Speaker 1: have You're ticking all of my boxes of the likes
- 12:45Speaker 1: I have on my list. I have one like about
- 12:49Speaker 1: Graham in this episode where he stands up to Frank Sullivan.
- 12:53Speaker 1: He's like gentled but also unbothered, and I was like, Okay, Graham,
- 12:57Speaker 1: I see you. I think Robin Thomas is real kind
- 13:03Speaker 1: of silver sexy. And maybe it's because I'm a old
- 13:07Speaker 1: lady now too, I don't, I don't know. I just
- 13:10Speaker 1: I kind of love this sort of he was protective
- 13:15Speaker 1: of like these women in this particular movie. I just
- 13:21Speaker 1: was your quiet authoritativeness. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah too. Yeah.
- 13:25Speaker 1: I liked it. The final like for me is I
- 13:28Speaker 1: liked the mystery in this particular story as well, kind
- 13:35Speaker 1: of non hallmarky in a way, like we have like
- 13:39Speaker 1: a surprise affair, like and a child out of wedlock,
- 13:43Speaker 1: a secret child exists, not really Hallmark fair, So I
- 13:49Speaker 1: was interested in all of that. I mean it, it's
- 13:52Speaker 1: a lot, there's a lot of people, and we're gonna
- 13:55Speaker 1: talk about that in my wishes. But I liked the
- 13:58Speaker 1: mystery part of it. Yeah, me too. I have a
- 14:01Speaker 1: couple of little tiny likes. I like the dynamic between
- 14:03Speaker 1: Amy and Carmela. They kind of each dish it out
- 14:06Speaker 1: as much as they can take it. That was weird wording,
- 14:08Speaker 1: but you know what I mean. I mean speaking of Graham,
- 14:11Speaker 1: he's always very even and level and at one point
- 14:14Speaker 1: he's talking to Shaneade and she's like, yeah, I stole
- 14:16Speaker 1: the money so I could leave Frank, and he was like, well,
- 14:18Speaker 1: I definitely think you should still do that great lines, yes, yes, yes,
- 14:22Speaker 1: speaking of spooky, like the distorted voice ransom call, Yeah
- 14:27Speaker 1: that was I was like, oh, look at that. Real
- 14:29Speaker 1: creepy like that. And finally, Frank Sulvan is like super
- 14:33Speaker 1: villain level crapy in this movie. He's giving straight up
- 14:40Speaker 1: Marvel villain vibes. He was scary. He didn't make our
- 14:45Speaker 1: list of just because there were a lot of characters
- 14:48Speaker 1: in this particular movie, and sometimes when I craft these,
- 14:52Speaker 1: you know who's in this movie, I'm like, okay, are
- 14:54Speaker 1: we no shade? Okay, yeah, but he was real scary.
- 14:57Speaker 1: He was great. Yeah did you wish for well? I
- 15:01Speaker 1: already mentioned it. There were way too many characters. We
- 15:04Speaker 1: had the Sullivans, Carmela, Mark, Lucy, Alie, Frank, the sheriff
- 15:09Speaker 1: who ended up being the bad guy, Jennifer the secret daughter,
- 15:15Speaker 1: lots of people, lots of suspects, lots of who done it.
- 15:19Speaker 1: But but I did like that it was the sheriff
- 15:23Speaker 1: who was the bad guy. That's interesting because I didn't
- 15:26Speaker 1: why because I didn't want him to be the bad guy.
- 15:30Speaker 1: It's funny because there's a line that he says early
- 15:34Speaker 1: on about the evidence that I'm paraphrasing, but it was
- 15:38Speaker 1: like the evidence is right in front of you the
- 15:40Speaker 1: entire time, and or something's in front of you that
- 15:43Speaker 1: you didn't know you needed the entire time. And I
- 15:46Speaker 1: picked it up as like because Travis looks at Amy,
- 15:48Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, this is about Travison Amy,
- 15:50Speaker 1: this is you know whatever. But it was the sheriff
- 15:54Speaker 1: who was the bad dude. So yeah, he was in
- 15:57Speaker 1: front of them the entire time. Yeah, leading them astray. Yeah,
- 16:03Speaker 1: I'm not sure why, but that one. That one stung
- 16:05Speaker 1: a little bit to me. When we realize I think
- 16:07Speaker 1: it's because it's like this an older man in authority.
- 16:11Speaker 1: You feel very like duped. Yeah. Probably. Can we talk
- 16:15Speaker 1: about Amy's complete lack of self preservation, like when she
- 16:18Speaker 1: stands back up on the boat after being shot at,
- 16:21Speaker 1: like Amy, girl, stay down, yeah, and then making the
- 16:27Speaker 1: choice to dive into the lake and swim. Amy is
- 16:29Speaker 1: still swimming to this day. If she dove into that
- 16:31Speaker 1: was a far swim. I was trying for someone to
- 16:35Speaker 1: come rescue you. Girlfriend. I know it's dark, you're in
- 16:39Speaker 1: a jeans and a jacket. You are too overdressed to swim.
- 16:43Speaker 1: But wasn't she like some sort of like state swimmer
- 16:48Speaker 1: or something like that? We learned she's still bogged down
- 16:50Speaker 1: by all that clothes. I hear you, and you don't
- 16:53Speaker 1: know where you're being shot from, like people can shoot
- 16:55Speaker 1: into the water. Yes. And finally she follows Travis into
- 16:59Speaker 1: that apartment when he is chasing I think it's Lucy's apartment.
- 17:05Speaker 1: What are you doing, like you don't have a weapon,
- 17:07Speaker 1: and then you get shot at? Come on? Yeah, yeah,
- 17:10Speaker 1: you know that scene on the lake. Didn't even think
- 17:13Speaker 1: it was so dark. Yeah. I was like it. I
- 17:17Speaker 1: get why they're shooting it. It's a night scene, I
- 17:20Speaker 1: get it, But I'm like, it's it's so dark. I
- 17:22Speaker 1: can barely see what's happening here. Yeah, as like somebody's
- 17:25Speaker 1: trying to view it. And made me think because there's
- 17:29Speaker 1: also a scene coming up in our review of Missiletoe
- 17:33Speaker 1: Murders is a really dark scene too, And I'm like,
- 17:35Speaker 1: is it me? Who's the problem in these dark scenes
- 17:38Speaker 1: that I just can't see anything? And I'm trying to
- 17:41Speaker 1: think of like other like big budget movies or TV shows.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I find most of them to be too dark, really interesting.
- 17:49Speaker 1: My only other little wish is when we finally get
- 17:53Speaker 1: the the info dump of you know, we get all
- 17:58Speaker 1: the details of the crime. I'm the mystery, it's all
- 18:01Speaker 1: you know, it's all told to us. It was like
- 18:05Speaker 1: rapid fire, and I was like, who are we talking about? What?
- 18:08Speaker 1: Who and Travis are talking to each other? Yeah, but
- 18:11Speaker 1: I love their like good cop, bad cop sort of
- 18:13Speaker 1: vibe that they take on. But I was like, this
- 18:16Speaker 1: is a lot of information. I almost needed, like wait, who,
- 18:19Speaker 1: I needed like a little diagram of people that they
- 18:22Speaker 1: were talking about. It's a lot I need it, Yeah,
- 18:24Speaker 1: I need some visuals. Look, I just want to say
- 18:28Speaker 1: that if you were trying to remain undetected, maybe flying
- 18:30Speaker 1: a drone over the boat that you were following not
- 18:32Speaker 1: the greatest idea. Drones are not silent. And I also
- 18:34Speaker 1: felt very confused about the Mark and Lucy relationship, like
- 18:37Speaker 1: why was he having dinner at her house because she's
- 18:40Speaker 1: a student, Yeah, and he's a professor, and I know
- 18:43Speaker 1: they were working together on this project. It seemed like
- 18:46Speaker 1: the relationship was inappropriate, but they never gave us the
- 18:49Speaker 1: information that it was. So that's just a vibe that
- 18:52Speaker 1: I was picking up. I thought it was odd. Yeah,
- 18:56Speaker 1: I don't blame you there at all. It's time for
- 18:59Speaker 1: digitous that I only have one Okay, it is when
- 19:05Speaker 1: they're looking at the footage of who left the postcard
- 19:09Speaker 1: on the door and Travis is like zoom in on
- 19:12Speaker 1: that and then that it guy like super zooms, like
- 19:15Speaker 1: that's not how these things happen. No, And you're also
- 19:18Speaker 1: not gonna see the writing that clearly. Oh. I was
- 19:21Speaker 1: like even on like CSI, it's not well, I take
- 19:27Speaker 1: that back. When I have watched like CSI or whatever
- 19:29Speaker 1: and they're like, let's look at that footage from the
- 19:31Speaker 1: CCTV and it's all grainy and it like comes in
- 19:34Speaker 1: like perfectly clear, and they can see who the bad
- 19:37Speaker 1: GUYE is. It's kind of the same thing here. It
- 19:40Speaker 1: just was funny, that's all. I have a couple when
- 19:43Speaker 1: Travis is waiting for Amy outside of the hospital room.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Who's in the hospital Peter Benson ow mm hmm because
- 19:52Speaker 1: he shot himself. He's like leaning against a railing and
- 19:54Speaker 1: his hands are literally in the I love you sign,
- 19:57Speaker 1: like the sign language I love you sign. Oh, and
- 19:59Speaker 1: then they have or I love you moments. I don't
- 20:01Speaker 1: know if it was intentional or not. And finally, my
- 20:04Speaker 1: final digity, that's about the movie poster. If you look
- 20:06Speaker 1: at it, it's Amy and Travis, and then the background
- 20:09Speaker 1: is the boat slicing down water and it's slicing right
- 20:12Speaker 1: down the middle of them. And is it foreshadowing they're
- 20:14Speaker 1: split oh the end of this movie, maybe, even though
- 20:19Speaker 1: they don't actually split. What did you rate this movie?
- 20:22Speaker 1: It's a five star for me. It's a five star
- 20:24Speaker 1: for me too. I really liked it, and I know
- 20:26Speaker 1: everybody was like, ahhhh, a lit last thirty seconds to
- 20:30Speaker 1: the last ending. I think it. I think it was
- 20:33Speaker 1: a good ending, but not for a finale, you know. Yeah,
- 20:39Speaker 1: I thought it was a great movie if you ignore
- 20:41Speaker 1: the fact that it is an unfinished series. Yeah, on
- 20:44Speaker 1: its own, I think it's a great movie. I have
- 20:46Speaker 1: no complaints. It's five stars for me too. This series
- 20:49Speaker 1: delivered it did. Hey, thank you for listening to this
