- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 2: conservation always wins. There is a prize. Media will donate
- 0:16Speaker 2: five hundred dollars to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I'm your host, Spencer new Arth, and today we're joined
- 0:22Speaker 2: by Giannis, Cory, Max, Laura omar Riva and Nate. This
- 0:27Speaker 2: is a ten round quiz show with questions from meat
- 0:29Speaker 2: Eater's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Mediater Trivia is brought to you by one of my
- 0:35Speaker 2: favorite beers, bush Light bush Light Head for the Mountains.
- 0:39Speaker 2: All right, we're starting today's episode with a mail bag question.
- 0:42Speaker 2: If you have a question you want the crew to answer,
- 0:44Speaker 2: then send your question with the subjects line mailbag to
- 0:47Speaker 2: Trivia at the medeater dot com.
- 0:49Speaker 3: I like this question.
- 0:50Speaker 2: This is probably my favorite one we've gotten so far.
- 0:53Speaker 2: It was sent just a couple of hours ago this morning.
- 0:55Speaker 2: It is from Madeleine l. My husband and I do
- 0:59Speaker 2: not get any date nights. This means when hunting season
- 1:02Speaker 2: comes around, we treat it as date nights, leaving the
- 1:04Speaker 2: kids with my family and go sit out in the
- 1:06Speaker 2: standard blind together. We take turns per season. Whose turn
- 1:09Speaker 2: it is to get to shoot and have a chance
- 1:12Speaker 2: at an animal? Two years ago, my husband harvested his
- 1:15Speaker 2: first black bear. Last year, we went bear hunting and
- 1:18Speaker 2: it was my turn to shoot, but we did not
- 1:20Speaker 2: even see a single bear, so we walked away with nothing.
- 1:23Speaker 2: We are now having a tip about whose turn it
- 1:26Speaker 2: is to shoot this year. He thinks it is his
- 1:29Speaker 2: because it was my opportunity last year and it doesn't
- 1:32Speaker 2: matter that we didn't see anything. I think it is
- 1:35Speaker 2: mine because I didn't get to harvest an animal or
- 1:38Speaker 2: even get to shoot. I would love the cruise thoughts
- 1:40Speaker 2: and did input whose turn is it? Y?
- 1:42Speaker 4: But he hasn't had an opportunity.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Okay, it could be different if she like missed a
- 1:47Speaker 2: bear and then it would be like his turn up
- 1:50Speaker 2: the bat, you know. But yeah, ladies, first, my take
- 1:53Speaker 2: would be if it was the hus if like both
- 1:55Speaker 2: of you have never shot a bear before, the husband
- 1:57Speaker 2: got his first bear, now it's your turn. You didn't
- 1:59Speaker 2: get one. I think it should just be your turn
- 2:01Speaker 2: until you get that opportunity you would get that bear.
- 2:04Speaker 2: After that, I think you could just alternate and like,
- 2:06Speaker 2: if you strike out, then beyond that that that was
- 2:09Speaker 2: your season, that was your chance. Now it goes back
- 2:11Speaker 2: to your husband.
- 2:12Speaker 5: But I think there's a little bit of a twist
- 2:14Speaker 5: with the fact that they're probably not just hunting bears, right,
- 2:17Speaker 5: there's like deer seasons coming up or whatever. So how
- 2:21Speaker 5: does it play into when it comes when it comes
- 2:23Speaker 5: to a different species.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I think if you should had your first dear, if
- 2:28Speaker 2: you've each had your first turkey, just alternate beyond that.
- 2:31Speaker 2: But assuming this is everyone's first black bear, let medal
- 2:34Speaker 2: and have the shot.
- 2:34Speaker 5: But yeah, for sure, But if they go deer hunting,
- 2:38Speaker 5: I think they should sort of like start back in
- 2:40Speaker 5: zero and they just trade off. And this time you
- 2:43Speaker 5: really got to decide are we doing it per day,
- 2:46Speaker 5: We're doing it per sit, are we doing it per animal?
- 2:49Speaker 2: And just have that discussion that some people do it
- 2:51Speaker 2: per hour too, like oh this is your hour?
- 2:53Speaker 3: Oh that's insane.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Whose turn is it?
- 2:57Speaker 6: It seems like he should have first, right every us mm,
- 3:01Speaker 6: but it would be a gentleman thing to let her
- 3:04Speaker 6: have it, that's right.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I agree.
- 3:05Speaker 7: Okay, in my house, my wife just makes all the rules.
- 3:09Speaker 7: So I don't know what they're debating about. She could
- 3:12Speaker 7: have had ten shots at bears. She's like, this is
- 3:14Speaker 7: my shot. It's gonna be her shot.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Laura, what do you think whose turn is it?
- 3:18Speaker 6: Oh?
- 3:19Speaker 5: Well, I took the literal route where she said he
- 3:21Speaker 5: turns each season.
- 3:23Speaker 1: So I mean you strike out, okay.
- 3:28Speaker 2: You're passing it on. Then you think it's the husband's turn.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know.
- 3:31Speaker 4: All right.
- 3:31Speaker 2: We have I think eight folks in this room, and
- 3:34Speaker 2: it seems like six of us are Team Madeline and
- 3:37Speaker 2: one or two team husband Phil Taylor. Oh what do
- 3:40Speaker 2: you think? Give us your thoughts.
- 3:41Speaker 8: I there cannot be a person in this room with
- 3:43Speaker 8: less authority or perspective. So I'll just as I often do,
- 3:48Speaker 8: I'll side with the wife.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Okay, smart mood. Yeah, Team Madeline. It's Madeleine's turn again,
- 3:54Speaker 2: at least until she gets her first bear. It gets
- 3:56Speaker 2: her first chance.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I heard a good one the other day. If well,
- 3:59Speaker 3: I was in a class.
- 4:00Speaker 5: I was taken and we're doing like introductions, and the
- 4:03Speaker 5: guy was making a joke, but he said, yeah, I
- 4:06Speaker 5: make all of the big decisions in this relationship. Here,
- 4:09Speaker 5: we just haven't had any big decisions to make yet.
- 4:15Speaker 2: No housekeeping today. The Shelby index for this episode is
- 4:18Speaker 2: a three where winners should get six correct answers, and
- 4:21Speaker 2: with that we're onto the game of trivia. Play the
- 4:23Speaker 2: drop fill. Look, I need to know what I stand
- 4:28Speaker 2: and win everything everything.
- 4:31Speaker 1: How's that? Just tend to win everything?
- 4:40Speaker 2: Demon Suckers Question one. The topic is hunting. This first
- 4:44Speaker 2: great question is via Shall and Teachee. The American Kennel
- 4:49Speaker 2: Club places beagles in this class of dog? Is it sporting, working,
- 4:57Speaker 2: herding or hound? The American Kennel Club places beagles in
- 5:05Speaker 2: this class of dog? Is it sporting, working, herding or hound?
- 5:11Speaker 3: Max?
- 5:11Speaker 2: Would I have you needed the choices on this one? You're
- 5:13Speaker 2: pretty quick to answer yeah.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I would have just.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah, just to make sure my answer was had. Yeah,
- 5:23Speaker 2: just make sure I had a chance.
- 5:24Speaker 3: But I don't know what. I don't know. If I
- 5:26Speaker 3: would have known the classes choose from them.
- 5:29Speaker 4: I thought it was gonna be something else, like type
- 5:31Speaker 4: of game they pursued like.
- 5:32Speaker 5: I wouldn't know what the difference between working and hurting is.
- 5:35Speaker 5: What's an example of a working well? I guess you'll
- 5:37Speaker 5: tell us in the favorite text.
- 5:39Speaker 2: The American Kennel Club places beagles in this class of
- 5:43Speaker 2: dog Sporting, working, herding, Hound, I don't.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Even know if I'm right. I kind of want to
- 5:49Speaker 3: be like, yeah, they're pretty cool dogs.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Mm hmm, yeah, but what dog like a German shepherd?
- 5:56Speaker 2: All right? Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers?
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yanni says hound, Laura Hound, Reva Hound, Omar Hound, Corey Hound,
- 6:10Speaker 2: Nate Hound, Max Hound. The whole room got it right.
- 6:15Speaker 2: The correct answer is hound. AKC says that the hound
- 6:19Speaker 2: category is a group of dogs that share the ancestral
- 6:22Speaker 2: trait of being used for hunting. This class is known
- 6:25Speaker 2: for its stamina, nose, and baying. The hound group includes coonhounds, foxhounds, bloodhounds,
- 6:31Speaker 2: basset hounds, greyhounds, whippets, Doxin's beagles, and more. I didn't
- 6:37Speaker 2: and a whippet. I didn't have sporting or I didn't
- 6:40Speaker 2: have favor text for the other groups. But sporting that's
- 6:43Speaker 2: like labs. I think retrievers. Yeah, workings. As Omar said,
- 6:48Speaker 2: I'm guessing.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Healer Malla.
- 6:54Speaker 5: I met a new dog when I was in Kansas
- 6:56Speaker 5: last week that never even heard of. Has anybody heard
- 6:59Speaker 5: of a Padderdale?
- 7:00Speaker 2: No?
- 7:00Speaker 5: No, it is like you guys should google it, image
- 7:04Speaker 5: it later when you first meet him. You're like, Oh,
- 7:06Speaker 5: it's a lab puppy with a doctail. I mean that's
- 7:08Speaker 5: what it looks like, full grown, huh, and very lovable.
- 7:13Speaker 5: They almost kind of act like a lab puppy when
- 7:15Speaker 5: you're just hanging out with them until they're within like
- 7:18Speaker 5: scent distance of a coon, which then the other side
- 7:21Speaker 5: of that dog comes out and they go and kill
- 7:24Speaker 5: the coon or whatever. You know, Critter, you've trained it
- 7:26Speaker 5: to get after Padderdale Podderdale.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's basically like a lab puppy that kills coons.
- 7:32Speaker 4: It's kind of that's sick.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Yeah, just some quick google. Part of the working group
- 7:36Speaker 2: you have Siberian Huskies, Doberman's and Great Danes, and then
- 7:41Speaker 2: part of the herding group order Collies, German Shepherds and
- 7:45Speaker 2: Welsh Corgies.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Where does the Patderdale fall in.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I don't know. We are going to move on to question.
- 7:53Speaker 2: The topic is woodsmanship. The Discovery Channel debuted this risky
- 7:59Speaker 2: reality show in twenty thirteen, which one TV critic called
- 8:03Speaker 2: quote more voyeuristic than educational. The Discovery Channel debuted this
- 8:11Speaker 2: risk a reality show in twenty thirteen, which one TV
- 8:16Speaker 2: critic called more voyeuristic than educational Nate and Corey quick
- 8:21Speaker 2: to anier. See, Corey, have you seen this show?
- 8:25Speaker 9: I have not.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Okay, Laura, do you have this one right?
- 8:28Speaker 6: I think so?
- 8:29Speaker 2: Okay? Do you like this TV show?
- 8:31Speaker 7: No?
- 8:31Speaker 3: Thirteen is a weird time.
- 8:33Speaker 1: For TV shows?
- 8:34Speaker 2: M M okay. Can you expand on that for us?
- 8:40Speaker 2: Phil was nodding his head in agreement, though he also
- 8:42Speaker 2: thinks twenty thirteen it is a weird year of the TV. No.
- 8:46Speaker 2: But I wanted to make Laura feel better. The Discovery
- 8:50Speaker 2: Channel debuted This risk A reality show in twenty thirteen,
- 8:54Speaker 2: which one TV critic called more voyeuristic than educational. Yanni
- 9:00Speaker 2: with a blank whiteboard over here.
- 9:02Speaker 5: I had two very young kids that year. I wasn't
- 9:06Speaker 5: doing a lot of TV watch.
- 9:07Speaker 4: And probably because they weren't sucking on binkies.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Probably.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Paid off.
- 9:12Speaker 4: There you go.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Maxwell doesn't know this one either. Omar, do you know
- 9:17Speaker 2: this one?
- 9:17Speaker 1: I was a sophomore in high school. I was not
- 9:19Speaker 1: watching too much TV.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Okay, Riva, do you have an answer? Do you have
- 9:23Speaker 2: this one right?
- 9:25Speaker 3: How Riva knows it?
- 9:27Speaker 2: No?
- 9:28Speaker 5: Discovery Channel is there like a Shark Nature reality No.
- 9:36Speaker 2: A risk a reality show, which one TV critic called
- 9:39Speaker 2: more voyeuristic than educational.
- 9:45Speaker 7: You guys, ever seen an Egyptian pharaoh dog? M that's
- 9:48Speaker 7: another one I didn't know existed until I saw it,
- 9:50Speaker 7: and you see it and you're like, that looks like
- 9:52Speaker 7: an Egyptian dog and turns out.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Good name that had a double acl tear.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Dang, Yeah they did put that thing down.
- 10:00Speaker 4: If it's like forty years ago, I don't know. Yeah,
- 10:05Speaker 4: we're looking dog.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers, Yanni says.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Shark Brothers Laura Naked and Afraid, No, Viva Naked and afraid,
- 10:17Speaker 2: Omar Naked and afraid, Corey Naked and afraid, Nate Naked
- 10:20Speaker 2: and afraid, Max Bear grills. The correct answer is naked
- 10:25Speaker 2: and afraid.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Fail is like six Max?
- 10:30Speaker 3: Yeah, who knows.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Naked and afraid? Is Corey? Every Night Naked and Afraid
- 10:35Speaker 2: is a reality show where two survivalists, usually a man
- 10:38Speaker 2: and woman who have never met before, are dropped into
- 10:41Speaker 2: extreme wilderness locations, and, as the name implies, they don't
- 10:45Speaker 2: have clothes. One former contestant said in a twenty twenty
- 10:48Speaker 2: two TikTok that she is aware of at least five
- 10:51Speaker 2: former duos who have hooked up while filming. The show
- 10:54Speaker 2: Naked and Afraid is in its nineteenth season.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Geez yeah, great idea.
- 10:59Speaker 2: I mean you could just do any reality show going forward,
- 11:05Speaker 2: like Naked and Basketball, Naked Fix what okay? Naked, Meat
- 11:15Speaker 2: Eater and Afraid. Question three, The topic is nature. The
- 11:20Speaker 2: central part of this state is known as Sinkhole Alley,
- 11:25Speaker 2: where porous limestone and abundant rainfall create America's highest frequency
- 11:31Speaker 2: of ground collapses. The central dark room of this state
- 11:39Speaker 2: is known as Sinkhole Alley, where porous limestone and abundant
- 11:43Speaker 2: rainfall create America's highest frequency of ground collapses. Nate the
- 11:49Speaker 2: only player with an answer so far, and I don't
- 11:52Speaker 2: know that he likes it. One fifty numbers game?
- 11:57Speaker 3: Where is there a bunch of limestone?
- 12:00Speaker 8: M m?
- 12:01Speaker 2: The central part of this state is known as Sinkhole Alley,
- 12:05Speaker 2: or porous limestone and abundant rainfall create America's highest frequency
- 12:09Speaker 2: of ground collapses. Maxwell, do you have state?
- 12:19Speaker 3: State?
- 12:19Speaker 2: Okay, do you have an answer?
- 12:23Speaker 6: I have something, but.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Sink hole Alley? Where is that located? Is everybody ready?
- 12:31Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers? Yanni, says Kentucky Laura, Alaska,
- 12:37Speaker 2: Reva says Arkansas, Omar, California, Corey, Tennessee, Nate, California, Max Kentucky.
- 12:47Speaker 2: The correct answer is none of those. It's Florida. Three
- 12:55Speaker 2: specific counties, Pasco, Hernando, and Hillsboro create Sinkhole Alley. They
- 13:00Speaker 2: account for seventy five percent of Florida's reported ground collapses.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Tampa is in the heart of Sinkhole Alley, with thousands
- 13:08Speaker 2: of insurance related sinkhole claims each year. Sink Hole season
- 13:12Speaker 2: in Florida occurs in January and February and May and June,
- 13:16Speaker 2: when groundwater tables fluctuate the most. This is the biggest
- 13:21Speaker 2: sinkhole in modern US history. That happened in sink Cole Alley.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Three hundred and fifty feet wide, ninety feet deep. It
- 13:27Speaker 2: swallowed a home, Olympic sized swimming pool and car dealership.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Today it is a pond that's known as Lake Rose
- 13:34Speaker 2: and it's named after the homeowner who had their house
- 13:37Speaker 2: swallowed by that sink hole.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Wow.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Wow, did that make it out alive?
- 13:42Speaker 2: I don't think there were any injuries or deaths I
- 13:44Speaker 2: believe in that accident, But Florida just bodies. The rest
- 13:48Speaker 2: of the country when it comes to making sinkholes.
- 13:51Speaker 6: I should have known that because I lived in Orlando
- 13:53Speaker 6: for a while and that was something people talked about.
- 13:55Speaker 2: M Come on, or Land, Ali likes their sinkholes. Well,
- 14:00Speaker 2: all right, we're on a question four topic is gear.
- 14:03Speaker 2: This next great question is via Chase Stacey. This Swedish
- 14:08Speaker 2: brand with a nine letter name is best known for
- 14:11Speaker 2: their chainsaws, even though they made firearms for three hundred years.
- 14:18Speaker 2: HM Nate has his answer. Joanni started to write, but
- 14:25Speaker 2: then pause. This Swedish brand with a nine letter name
- 14:29Speaker 2: is best known for their chainsaws, even though they made
- 14:32Speaker 2: firearms for three hundred years. Maxwell, do you have this
- 14:37Speaker 2: one right?
- 14:38Speaker 4: I got a.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Swedish name? Maybe Okay? And I yeah, I.
- 14:42Speaker 4: Think they make chain saws. I didn't spell it right.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Though spelling doesn't count.
- 14:48Speaker 3: No, it does, ah only.
- 14:53Speaker 2: This Swedish brand with a nine letter name is best
- 14:57Speaker 2: known for their chain saws, even though they made guns
- 15:00Speaker 2: for three hundred years. Omar, do you have this one right?
- 15:03Speaker 1: I think I do.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Corey do you have this one right? We'll see. Okay,
- 15:08Speaker 2: got a great guess, Laura, do you have an answer?
- 15:11Speaker 1: No?
- 15:13Speaker 2: Yanni? Did you get this one? I?
- 15:14Speaker 3: Believe.
- 15:15Speaker 2: So okay, room feels okay. It's everybody ready, Go ahead
- 15:22Speaker 2: and reveal your answers. Yanni says husk Varna. Laura without
- 15:26Speaker 2: an answer, Riva husk Varna. The rest of the room
- 15:30Speaker 2: says husk Varna. They got it. The correct answer is
- 15:33Speaker 2: husk Varna, and I see the brand spelled with a
- 15:36Speaker 2: Q or a K, based on which country they're advertising in.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Husk Varna was founded in sixteen eighty nine as a
- 15:46Speaker 2: musket maker for the Swedish Army. They expanded into sewing machines,
- 15:50Speaker 2: meat grinders and bicycles and the eighteen hundreds, followed by motorcycles,
- 15:55Speaker 2: lawnmowers and chainsaws in the nineteen hundreds. Husk Varna made
- 15:59Speaker 2: their final fire arm in nineteen eighty nine, causing their
- 16:02Speaker 2: rifles to become very collectible to gun enthusiasts. Question five.
- 16:07Speaker 2: The topic is fishing. The name of this fish is
- 16:11Speaker 2: often shortened to g T, which Western Angler magazine says
- 16:16Speaker 2: is quote one of the fiercest fish predators in the world.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Max confident, Laura confident, Yanni confident. The name fish of
- 16:31Speaker 2: this fish is often shortened to g T, which Western
- 16:36Speaker 2: Angler Magazine says is one of the fiercest fish predators
- 16:40Speaker 2: in the world. Has anyone in the room caught a
- 16:43Speaker 2: GT before? Nope? No, okay, I don't have too many
- 16:47Speaker 2: here in Montana. There's a hint, there's.
- 16:51Speaker 3: A few, dude, Yeah, they're out in the Bob Marshall,
- 16:58Speaker 3: have you used.
- 16:58Speaker 4: That fishing out yet in your of course not. I
- 17:03Speaker 4: will fish. I will do it before this child is born.
- 17:06Speaker 4: In your office, something off the free table. It's what hey,
- 17:10Speaker 4: you take that back.
- 17:11Speaker 2: That's what it's called. The name of this fish is
- 17:14Speaker 2: often shortened to GT, which Western Angler magazine says is
- 17:18Speaker 2: one of the fiercest fish predators in the world. Yanni,
- 17:22Speaker 2: are we just doodling over here?
- 17:24Speaker 4: Okay?
- 17:24Speaker 2: Okay?
- 17:25Speaker 7: Right?
- 17:26Speaker 2: Is the rest of the room ready?
- 17:27Speaker 1: I've seen a viny on this, but I don't know
- 17:30Speaker 1: I got it.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Right, Go ahead and reveal your answers. Yanni, Giant Travoli, Laura,
- 17:36Speaker 2: same answer, Reva Gator trout, Omar Gator Travoli, Cory, Grand Travoli,
- 17:46Speaker 2: Grand Tarpain, Max Giant Trivali. The correct answer is Giant
- 17:52Speaker 2: Trivoli Cory.
- 17:54Speaker 1: No.
- 17:54Speaker 4: In my head, I'm like, that's what I wrote down.
- 17:56Speaker 2: A bucket lists. Giant Travoli a type of jack and
- 18:01Speaker 2: are the biggest of the travoli species. They are considered
- 18:05Speaker 2: an adventurefish because of their size, speed, attitude, and challenging
- 18:09Speaker 2: water where they live. Gt like to hunt along shallow reefs,
- 18:13Speaker 2: which is where anglers throw poppers for them. All right,
- 18:17Speaker 2: and now it's time for our Canam question of the week.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Thanks to Canam, you get some bonus trivia in this
- 18:22Speaker 2: week's episode. This does not count towards your score. It's
- 18:25Speaker 2: just for bragging.
- 18:26Speaker 4: Right.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Here's the question. The topic is hunting. Canam says that
- 18:30Speaker 2: this five letter accessory will quote undoubtedly save the day
- 18:35Speaker 2: when you need to get unstuck or hoist a large animal.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Bing bang, boom bob.
- 18:44Speaker 2: We are halfway through the game of trivia, so we
- 18:47Speaker 2: will get a scoreboard update after this, but right now
- 18:50Speaker 2: we're under the bonus Canam question. Canam says that this
