- 1:02Speaker 2: had a great evening with Clay. We drove down to
- 1:06Speaker 2: Birmingham last night. A quick turnaround.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I don't know how much time we actually spent in Birmingham,
- 1:12Speaker 1: but it was great to see the boys at the
- 1:15Speaker 1: next round, next round live. who are, of course, with
- 1:19Speaker 1: Sporting State. They follow us each morning here on the network.
- 1:23Speaker 1: They had their kickoff party at walk-ons. It was a
- 1:26Speaker 1: great turnout, great to see them, and more of a toast,
- 1:32Speaker 1: if you will, to them joining us here on Sporting State.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Great to see them in person.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it was great, Hutton, and the mornings are loaded
- 1:40Speaker 2: now at Sporting State. When you think about our show
- 1:43Speaker 2: leading right into next round live, incredible to see the
- 1:45Speaker 2: community working Those guys have built over the years, right,
- 1:48Speaker 2: from local radio and then into what they've done digitally.
- 1:51Speaker 2: And now what they're going to do with Sporting State.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Really cool to go down. It was a quick trip
- 1:56Speaker 2: for us driving down with Clay, but it was a blast.
- 1:58Speaker 2: And good seeing LT and Dunaway and Ryan Brown. And
- 2:02Speaker 2: our guy Brooks Carter also, who's doing some great work
- 2:04Speaker 2: for this show, to go down and see all those guys.
- 2:06Speaker 2: It was really cool. And all of their great fans.
- 2:10Speaker 2: It's amazing how many of them were Tennessee transplants that
- 2:13Speaker 2: have moved down to Birmingham also. So really cool to see.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Man, you made a great observation about just the city
- 2:18Speaker 1: in general, underrated, right? Just the southern cities in totality.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I mean, Birmingham would be at the top of the
- 2:28Speaker 1: list of the underrated cities for you?
- 2:31Speaker 2: Yes, I would put Birmingham right up there as a
- 2:34Speaker 2: very underrated southern city. It's amazing. We went there for
- 2:37Speaker 2: the USFL and got to experience a city that way.
- 2:40Speaker 2: And going back, you know, we, we went down for
- 2:43Speaker 2: a meeting recently too. Every time I go back, I
- 2:45Speaker 2: feel like I like it a little bit more. A
- 2:47Speaker 2: lot of times you go to a city over and over,
- 2:49Speaker 2: you like it less and less, not the case with Birmingham.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I feel like I like it more and more each time. Yeah, man,
- 2:54Speaker 2: I agree.
- 2:55Speaker 1: It's like, um, I mean, if we're comparing it to
- 2:57Speaker 1: just SEC towns, um, I don't know. I, I combined
- 3:03Speaker 1: Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, you know, like our, our buddies with, uh, Farmfolio,
- 3:07Speaker 1: Peter Curry to them. Like I view that as just
- 3:09Speaker 1: one big town. Um, I that's one of my favorite places.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I've never been to Oxford, so I can't rate that one. Um,
- 3:17Speaker 1: hopefully we get a chance to go this year though.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Right. Yeah. Yeah. I think we're going to go to
- 3:21Speaker 2: Oxford and here's what I, it's amazing about Birmingham. And
- 3:23Speaker 2: every time I go, I see a different part of this. Yeah.
- 3:27Speaker 2: There's mountains around. It surprises me. I don't know why,
- 3:31Speaker 2: but every time like you're hitting the mountains, like mountain
- 3:34Speaker 2: Brook and all those areas, like where we were last night,
- 3:37Speaker 2: I look up and I'm like, That's a mountain. I mean,
- 3:39Speaker 2: I feel like I'm next to Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Just the topography of the city. When you get out
- 3:45Speaker 2: of downtown, all around it are mountains, which is pretty cool,
- 3:49Speaker 2: which you don't think about Birmingham right off the bat
- 3:51Speaker 2: with some mountains around it. But there's definitely some different terrain.
- 3:54Speaker 2: when you get into Birmingham, but it was a great time. Great,
- 3:57Speaker 2: great sports, but great sports bar food last night being
- 3:59Speaker 2: served too. So good that in fact, I ordered a
- 4:02Speaker 2: couple of apps to go and both, both you and Clay,
- 4:06Speaker 2: Clay especially was like, let's get out of here. Let's go.
- 4:08Speaker 2: And I'm like, man, I got this app order. And
- 4:10Speaker 2: I think you're going to want to wait on these
- 4:13Speaker 2: sweet chili wings that I have coming. And Clay's like,
- 4:16Speaker 2: Oh no, already ate. I'm good. Let's go. Let's go.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Let's go. And I'm like, Clay, I promise you're going
- 4:20Speaker 2: to like this. We got in that, that sprinter van and,
- 4:23Speaker 2: And we devoured those wings and the cheese fries on
- 4:25Speaker 2: the way back. You picked up the van.
- 4:29Speaker 1: You picked up the food. I mean, it was top-notch, man.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Well done. You can vouch. It was well worth the
- 4:34Speaker 2: wait for those sweet chili wings. It was awesome. It
- 4:38Speaker 2: was legit. Really good. We kind of think of Next
- 4:41Speaker 2: Round Live as our spiritual brothers, right? For a long time,
- 4:45Speaker 2: even when we were doing local radio, they were kind
- 4:47Speaker 2: of the Birmingham equivalent of what we were doing same
- 4:50Speaker 2: thing for us. Like there's always been a mutual respect.
- 4:52Speaker 2: So it was good to go and actually press the flesh,
- 4:55Speaker 2: shake hands with them, see them and welcome them into
- 4:58Speaker 2: sport and state, because this is new for everyone, what
- 5:01Speaker 2: we're going to do with this network. But I think
- 5:03Speaker 2: great additions there for those guys, you know, talking about
- 5:06Speaker 2: what we're talking about them, Chad, I think, uh, I
- 5:09Speaker 2: won't say mirror images, but very similar shows, what we
- 5:13Speaker 2: were doing and what they were doing, right? Like the
- 5:15Speaker 2: same company, um, And I would say for advertising purposes,
- 5:21Speaker 2: we had more partners than we did advertisers. And that's
- 5:24Speaker 2: exactly what they do. They're an in-person type show. They
- 5:29Speaker 2: actually are friends.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I think it's pretty obvious if you're watching a show
- 5:33Speaker 1: and you can tell if it's an arranged marriage or not.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I feel like they were very similar to us whenever
- 5:40Speaker 1: we were going through Nashville and they were in Birmingham.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and they got a head start on us on
- 5:47Speaker 2: radio from what they were doing a few years before.
- 5:50Speaker 2: But I remember the beginning because getting introduced to LT
- 5:54Speaker 2: through Clay when he was starting on a radio because
- 5:56Speaker 2: that was one of the first shows he ever went
- 5:58Speaker 2: on as a regular guest was their show. And he's
- 6:01Speaker 2: got a long-standing relationship with them. So it was very cool.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And I think from a college football perspective, Hutton, talking
- 6:06Speaker 2: to a lot of diehard college football fans last night,
- 6:09Speaker 2: there's a lot of quiet optimism around that Alabama fan base,
- 6:12Speaker 2: similar to the way I feel about Tennessee. There's a
- 6:14Speaker 2: lot of, hey, if the quarterback is right, this offense
- 6:18Speaker 2: should hum. I think Alabama fans feel the same way
- 6:21Speaker 2: about their team. Very talented. Very favorable schedule for Alabama early.
- 6:25Speaker 2: They got a good shot at starting 5-0 this season.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I felt that confidence of Crimson Tide fans last night
- 6:31Speaker 2: down in Birmingham.
- 6:33Speaker 1: See, I don't feel that same way, that vibe that
- 6:36Speaker 1: you're getting. I think Bama fans are just high expectation anyway, right?
- 6:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:42Speaker 1: They're expecting nine wins. If they get nine wins, it's
- 6:45Speaker 1: a bad season. I feel like this offseason, we were
- 6:48Speaker 1: talking more Tennessee hoops than we were Tennessee.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Football, which is odd.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Football season is here, so I understand the talk is
- 6:59Speaker 1: about football, but the last few months have been all
- 7:03Speaker 1: about basketball and recruiting. It's really been interesting how it's
- 7:08Speaker 1: shifted to the Final Four vibe than, you know, which
- 7:13Speaker 1: we didn't really talk to quarterback much until the last month.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Or so, you know? I think a big part of that, Hutton,
- 7:19Speaker 2: is the quarterback situation because it's two guys who are
- 7:22Speaker 2: already on campus. You knew about George McIntyre for the
- 7:24Speaker 2: last three years if you follow Tennessee football, even going
- 7:27Speaker 2: back to the high school ranks where he was committed
- 7:29Speaker 2: for a long time. You knew about Faison Brandon. Faison
- 7:31Speaker 2: Brandon's been committed for two years. It's not like it's
- 7:33Speaker 2: a surprise to George McIntyre that he was going to
- 7:35Speaker 2: be there, right? He committed a long time ago before
- 7:38Speaker 2: his senior year of high school. and never wavered from
- 7:41Speaker 2: that commitment to Tennessee as a five-star-plus quarterback because there
- 7:45Speaker 2: was nothing new about it. You're not talking about, we're
- 7:48Speaker 2: going to get into some of these high-paid quarterbacks in
- 7:51Speaker 2: college football. Most of them are transfers. One-time transfer, end
- 7:55Speaker 2: of their career, going somewhere to solve a problem for
- 7:58Speaker 2: a school. Tennessee didn't have that, so I do think
- 8:00Speaker 2: that kind of hindered all the talk about them in
- 8:02Speaker 2: the preseason. So they're scheduled to open up Bama's. Let's
- 8:05Speaker 2: go Bama's.
- 8:06Speaker 1: East Carolina, they're hosting East Carolina to begin with. You
- 8:12Speaker 1: mentioned 5-0. I'm very intrigued by this because of the
- 8:15Speaker 1: way they got thought by Indiana in the playoff. And
- 8:18Speaker 1: so they're hosting East Carolina, going to Kentucky, which is
- 8:24Speaker 1: interesting because you don't really know what Kentucky's going to
- 8:27Speaker 1: be about with the new coach, right?
- 8:29Speaker 2: New quarterback. Will Stein, yeah.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Florida State. And then South Carolina and Mississippi State. So
- 8:39Speaker 1: you've always pointed to the Georgia Tech game for Tennessee
- 8:42Speaker 1: as the marker of really determining success, failure, based on
- 8:46Speaker 1: the win-loss. If Bama's not 5-0, what does that mean
- 8:51Speaker 1: for them? Because the backstretch, man, Georgia, Tennessee, A & M, LSU, Vandy, Auburn.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Is Georgia in Tuscaloosa or in Athens? Is that home
- 9:03Speaker 2: or away? Okay, so that's good. They're in Knoxville, I
- 9:06Speaker 2: know that. Um, it's a really brutal stretch. Yeah.
- 9:10Speaker 1: After the five games, you're right about the five and O,
- 9:12Speaker 1: but I mean, I could see them stubbing their toe
- 9:14Speaker 1: in one of these games.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Well, I mean, for sure. I think Kentucky's the big
- 9:20Speaker 2: X factor, Florida state. I mean, you got Mike Norvell
- 9:23Speaker 2: with his backup against the wall. I don't have a
- 9:25Speaker 2: lot of faith that he's going to save his job,
- 9:26Speaker 2: but that's a guy who needs that win. I mean,
- 9:29Speaker 2: there are some potential landmines there for sure.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Carolina, the same way, you know, uh, I feel more
- 9:35Speaker 1: optimism about Tennessee than I do Bama, quite frankly.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I don't, and I think it's probably because of the schedule.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I don't know why, but I just think if you
- 9:45Speaker 2: can get off– every year I look at this, that
- 9:47Speaker 2: early schedule is so important. And I just look at
- 9:50Speaker 2: Alabama and I say, okay, Keelan Russell is a five-star
- 9:52Speaker 2: guy too. David in the chat right now– you can
- 9:55Speaker 2: join us there, by the way, every day in the
- 9:56Speaker 2: YouTube chat. David says, Alabama must prove they can run
- 9:59Speaker 2: the ball. better before I'm a believer. I agree with that.
- 10:01Speaker 2: The knock on Kalen DeBoer's teams have been a lack
- 10:04Speaker 2: of physicality. They can't run. They can't get two yards
- 10:07Speaker 2: when they need it. I think Keelan Russell, though, adds
- 10:10Speaker 2: that running dimension to the Alabama offense. That's going to
- 10:12Speaker 2: help them immensely. I'll say this too, man. The the
- 10:16Speaker 2: Bama teams, even Saban's final two or three seasons, they
- 10:20Speaker 2: started to get these weird penalties. We just didn't really
- 10:24Speaker 2: see this from a Saban team. The unforced errors, the
- 10:31Speaker 2: lackadaisical penalties, substitution infractions, or personal fouls, or whatever. They
- 10:39Speaker 2: would end up with 10 to 12 penalties a game.
- 10:42Speaker 2: And they're still kind of that way. It's kind of
- 10:45Speaker 2: I don't know. They've kind of regressed to the mean
- 10:47Speaker 2: in regards to that. Because they used to always be
- 10:50Speaker 2: really buttoned up. I feel like Georgia's kind of that way.
- 10:54Speaker 2: We'll see about LSU.
- 10:55Speaker 1: But point being, Bama's always been very good. How many
- 11:01Speaker 1: times did we talk about the refs and taking on
- 11:05Speaker 1: Bama and saving all that? Now it's not the case.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I don't see the same discipline anymore. that was once there,
- 11:13Speaker 1: the culture, so to speak. It's not a huge factor,
- 11:16Speaker 1: but it's a factor than pulling a first down back,
- 11:20Speaker 1: pulling a touchdown off the board, or a field goal
- 11:23Speaker 1: off the board.
- 11:24Speaker 2: That affects them on game day. Yeah, Georgia's really buttoned
- 11:28Speaker 2: up until it's time to get behind the wheel of
- 11:30Speaker 2: their car. Other than that, they're very buttoned up on
- 11:33Speaker 2: the field. They're good between the hedges. It does feel
- 11:35Speaker 2: like there's less beating themselves for Georgia, the way it
- 11:38Speaker 2: was under Nick Saban. With Alabama for so long. Chad,
- 11:44Speaker 2: coming up, LSU takes on everyone. And I'm asking the question,
- 11:51Speaker 2: what is their endgame here? Because they are literally doing
- 11:55Speaker 2: everything based, I guess, on the governor. And it's middle
- 11:59Speaker 2: fingers in the air. That's straight ahead here on Sports
- 12:01Speaker 2: State and Huntley Withrow. It's Huntley Withrow. We are presented
- 12:06Speaker 2: by Hard Rock Bets. Good morning to everyone. Hope the
- 12:09Speaker 2: Friday is going very well.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Chad and I are powering through after a great time
- 12:15Speaker 1: in Birmingham last night, back in Nashville. Chad, so we've
- 12:20Speaker 1: got plenty to get to today. We've got RG3 talking
- 12:23Speaker 1: to Sean Watson and whether or not his head coach
- 12:26Speaker 1: actually wanted him to start. ESPN's doing away with the
- 12:28Speaker 1: ticker at the bottom of the screen, I think during
- 12:30Speaker 1: college football games, but we will dive into that later.
- 12:35Speaker 1: A lot of discussion with LSU. And I'm trying to
- 12:41Speaker 1: figure out, what is their endgame here? Because they paid
- 12:46Speaker 1: $ 53 million to Brian Kelly. They then disrupted and distracted,
- 12:51Speaker 1: however you want to phrase this, a historic season for
- 12:55Speaker 1: Ole Miss by going in and grabbing their coach and
- 13:00Speaker 1: their coach choosing to go to LSU instead of coach
- 13:05Speaker 1: for a national title at Ole Miss. they spend nearly
- 13:11Speaker 1: double the amount of revenue, that revenue share budget, or
- 13:15Speaker 1: whatever they want to call it, which is what, $ 17 million?
- 13:19Speaker 1: They're upwards of like $ 50 million on this roster now.
- 13:27Speaker 2: They vote to.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Not allow professional players back into the SEC, but then
- 13:35Speaker 1: abstain from voting.
- 13:37Speaker 2: on the punishment.
- 13:39Speaker 1: You have Will Wade, who's adding all these players, you know,
- 13:43Speaker 1: whether or not it's, it's eligible or ineligible. And, you know,
- 13:49Speaker 1: I would also add this, man, the SEC has always
- 13:52Speaker 1: been very, very much in lockstep, right? Like program to program. Ross,
- 13:59Speaker 1: you've got the presidents, the chancellors, the 80s, everybody just
- 14:03Speaker 1: kind of marches to the same beat. And, Now you've
- 14:07Speaker 1: got the governor running. It's just bizarre how they're approaching
- 14:13Speaker 1: things specifically LSU, and then you have everyone else that's
- 14:17Speaker 1: kind of just over it, right? Like, specifically Sankey, but
- 14:22Speaker 1: literally every other program, I'm assuming, is just tired of
- 14:26Speaker 1: the BS. LSU, Hutton, is living in this weird bubble
- 14:30Speaker 1: that they've created. And they act like— I don't know
- 14:32Speaker 1: what their endgame is, though. Like, where does this kind
- 14:35Speaker 1: of settle for them, you know?
- 14:37Speaker 2: They act like the bubble, though, is all of college sports.
- 14:40Speaker 2: They continue to conflate what's actually happening. There are issues
- 14:45Speaker 2: that cover all of college sports. They are the only
- 14:48Speaker 2: ones that are attempting to do this. They're the ones
- 14:50Speaker 2: that are going to the NFL players, trying to get
- 14:52Speaker 2: them to file motions to get eligible. And because of that,
- 14:55Speaker 2: it's caused this logjam of a mess that no one
- 14:58Speaker 2: else in the sport wants. Even the ones who are
- 15:00Speaker 2: somewhat agreeable to it are like, we hate it. But
- 15:03Speaker 2: if LSU is going to get all of them, then
- 15:05Speaker 2: we should be allowed to get some too. Or we're
- 15:07Speaker 2: going to go ahead and recruit some of those guys
- 15:09Speaker 2: also if they're eligible. But we don't want them eligible.
- 15:12Speaker 2: No one else wants them eligible. And then Lane Kiffin
- 15:14Speaker 2: goes on Pat McAfee and acts like, I'm just doing
- 15:18Speaker 2: what the sport does. It's unfortunate we're in this situation.
- 15:21Speaker 2: I'm like, dude, you are the puppeteer of all of this.
- 15:25Speaker 2: You're the one doing it.
- 15:27Speaker 1: He literally told players at Tennessee on his way out,
- 15:29Speaker 1: correct me if I'm wrong, don't go to class so
- 15:31Speaker 1: you can follow me.
- 15:33Speaker 2: He's a POS. Like, I'm sorry, let's call him. Like,
- 15:36Speaker 2: the dude can't do yoga and then all of a
- 15:38Speaker 2: sudden do a sit-down with Ryan McGee on a documentary
- 15:42Speaker 2: and everybody believe that he's this changed guy. Deep down,
- 15:46Speaker 2: he is going to do everything in his power. He
- 15:48Speaker 2: does not care about people. Everybody on that team is
- 15:52Speaker 2: a chess piece to him. He is putting chess pieces
- 15:55Speaker 2: in position to win a national title. That's his ultimate goal.
- 15:59Speaker 2: If you're a fan of the school he coaches, you
- 16:01Speaker 2: love that about him because he's going to win.
- 16:04Speaker 1: He's also the guy that if Alabama came open and
- 16:06Speaker 1: they went after him, he would leave LSU.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Of course. After all these chess pieces. He would leave
- 16:13Speaker 2: them unless he gave them everything he wanted. I don't
- 16:15Speaker 2: know how you could be more happy about the situation
- 16:18Speaker 2: than he is at LSU right now, considering they're willing
- 16:20Speaker 2: to make themselves look like idiots, which they are, to
- 16:23Speaker 2: protect him. Yeah, and even the governor, Jeff Landry.
- 16:27Speaker 1: The governor needs no help making himself look like a moron.
- 16:30Speaker 1: But I'm saying he's bitching about the contracts, and then
- 16:34Speaker 1: they double down on the contracts.
- 16:36Speaker 2: He bitched about guaranteed money for Brian Kelly and said
- 16:39Speaker 2: that he's going to come in and clean things up
- 16:41Speaker 2: and make sure that doesn't happen. And what he does
- 16:43Speaker 2: is he goes and gives Lane Kiffin more guaranteed money
- 16:46Speaker 2: as he's paying Brian Kelly. They tried to fire Brian
- 16:48Speaker 2: Kelly with cause. They can't do that. So now they've
- 16:51Speaker 2: got to pay Brian Kelly the money and pay Lane
- 16:53Speaker 2: Kiffin the money. And if they have to fire Lane Kiffin,
- 16:55Speaker 2: they're going to have to pay him even more money.
- 16:57Speaker 2: You've got the governor quoting saying, don't hate the player,
- 17:01Speaker 2: hate the game. Hate the game. When he's talking about this. Hun,
- 17:04Speaker 2: I am so confused day to day. You know, the
- 17:07Speaker 2: NCAA got a rare win when they got that stay
- 17:10Speaker 2: that makes all the fifth-year players ineligible, Jalen Washington, Tennessee
- 17:13Speaker 2: being one of them. I can't even talk about that.
- 17:17Speaker 2: We had that on a rundown of a subject to
- 17:19Speaker 2: talk about. You know why I didn't put it on there?
- 17:20Speaker 2: Because it's probably going to change over the course of
- 17:22Speaker 2: the show. Someone else is going to get an injunction granted,
- 17:25Speaker 2: and then he's going to be eligible again. And then
- 17:27Speaker 2: over the weekend, he's going to be ineligible again. And
- 17:29Speaker 2: then next Wednesday, they're going to say he's eligible again.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Here's what I don't understand. And this is a report
- 17:34Speaker 2: from ESPN. A Dallas judge signed an order Thursday, going
- 17:37Speaker 2: back to Lane Kiffin and bringing NFL players back to college.
- 17:41Speaker 2: A Dallas judge signed an order Thursday that prohibits the
- 17:43Speaker 2: NCAA from the NCAA and its commissioner, Greg Sankey, from
- 17:47Speaker 2: stopping a group of athletes from returning to college sports
- 17:50Speaker 2: for one more season of play. Tom Mars is a
- 17:53Speaker 2: guy that I respect, and I follow him on Twitter legally.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Tom Mars brings up this analogy. There is no question
- 18:01Speaker 2: that a homeowners association could prohibit people from parking RVs
- 18:05Speaker 2: in their driveways, and assess them $ 1, 000 a month for
- 18:09Speaker 2: every month they did so. Even if a local judge
- 18:12Speaker 2: issued a TRO or preliminary injunction preventing the HOA from
- 18:15Speaker 2: preventing people from parking RVs in their driveway or assessing
- 18:20Speaker 2: a fine if they did, there is no appellate court
- 18:23Speaker 2: in the nation that would uphold that TRO or preliminary injunction.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Why is this situation any different with the SEC just
- 18:30Speaker 2: because it involves college sports? He hits the nail on
- 18:33Speaker 2: the head right there. I don't understand any law of
- 18:36Speaker 2: the land that would prohibit the SEC of league from
- 18:41Speaker 2: making their own rules about this. They're not saying these
- 18:44Speaker 2: guys can't play college football somewhere else. They're saying they
- 18:48Speaker 2: can't play in their conference. But if they do, there's
- 18:51Speaker 2: going to be major penalties for the school that rosters them.
- 18:55Speaker 2: If Lane Kiffin wants to take a half-season suspension, then
- 18:58Speaker 2: he can roster all these guys he wants. If they
- 19:00Speaker 2: mean that much to them.
- 19:02Speaker 1: So that report goes on to say, and again, I
- 19:06Speaker 1: feel the same way you do and the way Mars
- 19:09Speaker 1: is describing, but the order specifically says that the NCAA, SEC,
- 19:14Speaker 1: and Sankey cannot block the players' return based on transfer
- 19:18Speaker 1: portal rules or their time.
- 19:21Speaker 2: On a pro roster.
- 19:22Speaker 1: It also states that if any of those groups want
- 19:25Speaker 1: to prohibit any of the plaintiffs for a different reason,
- 19:29Speaker 1: they would need to come to court and argue their
- 19:32Speaker 1: case in front of the judge.
- 19:33Speaker 2: So this is, by the way, this is for every sport.
- 19:37Speaker 1: There are upwards of 40, I think, 40 some odd
- 19:43Speaker 1: plaintiffs in this, including women's basketball players. The list goes
- 19:48Speaker 1: on and on. More than football is what I'm saying.
- 19:54Speaker 1: This is just about football, though. What we're seeing from
- 19:59Speaker 1: Sankey and the SEC, I realize they put WNBA and
- 20:03Speaker 1: all that in there. This is about what we're seeing
- 20:05Speaker 1: at LSU specifically.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Well, and that's what, you know, Mars used the HOA
- 20:11Speaker 2: analogy on this, right? Like, you could go, you could
- 20:13Speaker 2: get mad. Like, Jonathan Hutton buys an RV, or JT
- 20:17Speaker 2: buys an RV, let's say, decides to park it in
- 20:19Speaker 2: his driveway. And then his HOA says, hey, JT, you
- 20:22Speaker 2: can't do that. JT gets pissy and says, no, I
- 20:25Speaker 2: can't do that. This is America. And last time I checked,
- 20:28Speaker 2: I live in America, and I own this lot, so
- 20:30Speaker 2: I'm going to do it. JT then goes and gets
- 20:32Speaker 2: a TRO. He gets an injunction from one court that says, hey,
- 20:35Speaker 2: there's a TRO issue. stopping the HOA from levying penalties
- 20:39Speaker 2: or fines for JT to park his RV in the driveway,
- 20:45Speaker 2: if they went further to an appellate court, Tom Mars
- 20:47Speaker 2: is saying this is not going to stand up. Emphasis
- 20:51Speaker 2: on temporary. This is a temporary restraining order, but no
- 20:54Speaker 2: appellate court judge is going to uphold this and stop
- 20:58Speaker 2: the SEC from doing it.
- 20:59Speaker 1: But it's like by the time this all wraps up,
- 21:02Speaker 1: the season's over. Like they've played it. And I'm trying
- 21:07Speaker 1: to figure out, so the judge is Judge Martin Hoffman.
- 21:09Speaker 1: I'm trying to figure out his tie. It's more than Dallas.
- 21:13Speaker 1: There's got to be something involved here with where he
- 21:16Speaker 1: went to school or something. Funny enough, he served as
- 21:20Speaker 1: president of the Dallas Homeowners League.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Can we talk about corruption in the court system too
- 21:25Speaker 2: here for a second? Because I'm thinking all of these guys,
- 21:29Speaker 2: it's not a coincidence where they're filing. Right. Like they
- 21:32Speaker 2: filed in Baton Rouge. Yeah. And they get what they want.
- 21:35Speaker 2: And also, how did the Knoxville judge rule against Joey Aguilar?
- 21:38Speaker 2: I'm still shocked about that. Like we all just assumed
- 21:41Speaker 2: he's going to be eligible and come back. And, you know,
- 21:44Speaker 2: in the courtroom, he didn't get a hug from everyone
- 21:46Speaker 2: like Will Wade did. But with R.J. Lewis, he got a, no,
- 21:49Speaker 2: you're actually not eligible. Hey, kudos to the Knox County
- 21:52Speaker 2: judge who's not going to bend his will to the
- 21:56Speaker 2: university and their football team. But who's this dude in
- 21:59Speaker 2: Dallas as Tom Morris is calling out the judge?
- 22:01Speaker 1: I mean, his bio is legit, man. He's on the
- 22:05Speaker 1: board for the lawyer. He's on the law board. I mean, again,
- 22:11Speaker 1: for Texas, I'm saying. He wins outstanding trial judge awards.
- 22:17Speaker 2: I don't know. Did Jeff Landry hand him that award
- 22:22Speaker 2: at some point? Did Governor Jeff Landry put that medal
- 22:25Speaker 2: around his neck when he won that award? I just
- 22:27Speaker 2: feel like LSU is orchestrating all of this. And if
- 22:30Speaker 2: you're looking for a boogeyman of college football today, it's
- 22:33Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin. It's the governor of Louisiana. It's everyone involved
- 22:38Speaker 2: in this. I am rooting hard against LSU this year
- 22:41Speaker 2: for this reason only. I'm fascinated by them. They're going
- 22:44Speaker 2: to be a must-watch. I think it's going to be
- 22:49Speaker 2: a year-round circus, too. Absolutely, man. You've got the defensive
- 22:52Speaker 2: end who got two sacks in an NFL preseason game
- 22:55Speaker 2: saying that if he's not picked up by another NFL team,
- 22:58Speaker 2: then he's going to go play for Lane Kiffin this
- 22:59Speaker 2: year at LSU also. It's going to be a circus
- 23:03Speaker 2: that I'm not going to be able to take my
- 23:04Speaker 2: eyes off of. I also hope for the good of
- 23:07Speaker 2: the sport that all of this backfires against them. But Hutton,
- 23:11Speaker 2: the other possibility, we talked about this on the Drive
- 23:13Speaker 2: to Birmingham yesterday. The other possibility is it works and
- 23:15Speaker 2: works big time, and they go on to win the
- 23:17Speaker 2: SEC this year. It could keep a drive alive.
- 23:20Speaker 1: They may not score a touchdown for the game winner,
- 23:23Speaker 1: but they keep a drive alive throughout a game that
- 23:25Speaker 1: otherwise a player wouldn't be in position. There are layers
- 23:30Speaker 1: to it, and when you start thinking about what LSU needs,
- 23:36Speaker 1: they're piecing things together very well. Now, I will say,
- 23:39Speaker 1: like I said this yesterday, if I was the Big 12,
- 23:42Speaker 1: I would let people in. I would go against what
- 23:47Speaker 1: the ACC has done, which is just copy the SEC
- 23:49Speaker 1: and the Big Ten. I would go ahead and let
- 23:52Speaker 1: some players into my conference just based on the fact
- 23:56Speaker 1: that I'm trying to raise the bar of play and
- 24:00Speaker 1: the scope of solid football from top to bottom.
- 24:05Speaker 2: That would be my deal. No one cares about your principles, ACC.
- 24:11Speaker 2: No one cares about your principals either, Big 12. I mean,
- 24:13Speaker 2: I kind of get it. Like, if you're them and
- 24:15Speaker 2: you're still reeling from that $ 20 million across all teams
- 24:19Speaker 2: deal with Monster Energy and you need something else, like,
- 24:23Speaker 2: if you want to help, hey, help a brother out.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Texas Tech seems to be like the program that's willing
- 24:27Speaker 2: to go all in that could win a national title
- 24:30Speaker 2: at some point for your conference. So help out Texas Tech.
- 24:33Speaker 2: If everything falls through, the SEC, Big Ten, ACC– Maybe
- 24:36Speaker 2: Texas Tech, who has the money, can go and get
- 24:39Speaker 2: all these NFL guys to join their team, and they
- 24:42Speaker 2: could be the big.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Bad villain of college football the way LSU's become. Hey,
- 24:45Speaker 1: we mentioned ACC. Let me bring this up real quick.
- 24:47Speaker 1: ACC innovation here. The very rare ACC mention where I
- 24:53Speaker 1: think the power two should follow suit. I love what
- 24:57Speaker 1: they've done with this, with their broadcast. They are going
- 25:00Speaker 1: to expand their enhanced replay program. for this upcoming season.
- 25:04Speaker 1: They've decided this. Did you catch this last year? I did, yes.
- 25:10Speaker 2: I saw way too many ACC games on the CW
- 25:13Speaker 2: last year, I do confess. I find myself drifting to
- 25:16Speaker 2: the CW on a lot of fall afternoons.
- 25:19Speaker 1: So they're going to have 27 total games that will
- 25:21Speaker 1: include this, but more or less you go under the
- 25:23Speaker 1: hood with the official, and then he's talking to you know,
- 25:29Speaker 1: the voice of reason. I think it's the ACC headquarters.
- 25:33Speaker 1: I don't think it's up top in the stadium. But
- 25:36Speaker 1: they walk you through what they're seeing and how they
- 25:39Speaker 1: are trying to figure out whether or not a challenge
- 25:42Speaker 1: is worthy or if they're going to overturn a call.
- 25:46Speaker 1: The Big 12 is going to do this now. They're
- 25:49Speaker 1: going to follow suit, which I think is, again, the
- 25:53Speaker 1: more access, the better in this regard. And this is
- 25:57Speaker 1: where college football is ahead of the game with the NFL.
- 26:00Speaker 1: I think the more access when it comes to overturning calls,
- 26:03Speaker 1: what they're actually thinking, how they're trying to differentiate making
- 26:08Speaker 1: a call here versus what to catch over here, that's
- 26:12Speaker 1: what I want. And I hope we get to a
- 26:13Speaker 1: point where the SEC and the Big Ten will do this. Transparency,
- 26:17Speaker 1: that's what we're looking for. And if they're talking to
- 26:22Speaker 1: the conference officials at I'd love to hear it. I
- 26:27Speaker 1: like the fact that they can pipe in the audio.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I don't know why they don't do it for every game,
- 26:31Speaker 1: but I like the fact that they're up in their game.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Yeah, look, I like transparency. I like you, Hutton. I
- 26:37Speaker 2: think it's great. I like when anybody tries to innovate,
- 26:41Speaker 2: especially if you're the ACC or the Big 12. I'm
- 26:45Speaker 2: never going to dump on somebody for trying something. And
- 26:48Speaker 2: I like that they're trying this and showing it. I
- 26:50Speaker 2: will say, however, though, we're in the van driving back
- 26:53Speaker 2: from Birmingham last night as a great example. We're watching
- 26:55Speaker 2: the end of Dodgers-Braves. Braves end up getting the sweep
- 26:58Speaker 2: over the Dodgers in Atlanta. 1-0 game. Chris Sale has
- 27:01Speaker 2: gone into the ninth trying to complete the game. There
- 27:04Speaker 2: is a bang-bang double play that looks like it ends
- 27:07Speaker 2: the game. Matt Olsen is fully outstretched at 6'5. Looks
- 27:11Speaker 2: like his toe, his big toe, stays on the bag
- 27:14Speaker 2: as he catches it in time. And he immediately calls
- 27:17Speaker 2: for the review. As they say safe, he's like, review it.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Run it back. That's ballgame. Game over. They've reviewed it
- 27:23Speaker 2: for like five minutes. It was a long review for
- 27:25Speaker 2: Major League Baseball purposes. And I will say that as
- 27:29Speaker 2: a viewer of that and all of us there, we
- 27:31Speaker 2: are enthralled with a long review. When we don't know
- 27:34Speaker 2: what's being said and don't know what's happening, it's just
- 27:37Speaker 2: the fans in the stadium reacting to the replay over
- 27:40Speaker 2: and over from all the different angles. There's something to
- 27:44Speaker 2: be said for mystery. At times in sports, I like
- 27:47Speaker 2: what the ACC is doing. I love transparency. Don't get
- 27:50Speaker 2: me wrong on that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That last night,
- 27:53Speaker 2: the first time I've been thinking, I'm like, I actually
- 27:54Speaker 2: like the intrigue that we don't know what they're going
- 27:57Speaker 2: to say when they come out of this review. And
- 28:00Speaker 2: sure enough, they came out. We thought he was out.
- 28:02Speaker 2: And they say, after review, the ruling stands, he's safe.
- 28:05Speaker 2: At first, the game went on. Chris Sell strikes out
- 28:07Speaker 2: the next batter. Ball game over. Brave sweep. chop on
- 28:10Speaker 2: my Atlanta Braves. Huge, huge three-game sweep of the Dodgers. But, Hun,
- 28:15Speaker 2: that was fun to watch during that time. I'm just
- 28:18Speaker 2: speculating what happened.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I like the camera shots of the coaches and players
- 28:22Speaker 1: not knowing, but I get to listen in. You know,
- 28:26Speaker 1: like the suspense of what they're going through. Also, shut
- 28:28Speaker 1: up Chris Sale, who hit 100 miles per hour.
- 28:30Speaker 2: At 37 years old. And in the ninth inning. I mean,
- 28:36Speaker 2: he was getting up around 100 miles. He was 98,
- 28:38Speaker 2: 99 in the ninth inning. That was only the ninth.
- 28:42Speaker 2: This is what's crazy about Major League Baseball now. That
- 28:45Speaker 2: was the ninth complete game for a pitcher this season.
- 28:48Speaker 2: That's it. Of all the games in Major League Baseball,
- 28:52Speaker 2: Chris Sale completed the game in a 1-0 shutout. You
- 28:55Speaker 2: don't see it that much anymore. The days of Nolan
- 28:56Speaker 2: Ryan are gone, of everybody not wanting to come out
- 28:59Speaker 2: of the game, right? I mean, they're on a pitch
- 29:01Speaker 2: count now. All these dudes. But that was pretty cool
- 29:03Speaker 2: to see last night. Chris Salen, I think 37 years old,
- 29:07Speaker 2: battling through that. Like you said, incredible.
- 29:11Speaker 1: I'm looking up how many shutouts. There were 193 shutouts
- 29:14Speaker 1: recorded in the 1999 baseball season.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Wow. That was our era too, Hud. That was our time.
- 29:24Speaker 2: What a time to be alive. Yeah. And how many
- 29:28Speaker 2: this year? Nine? Nine. Yeah, and what's crazy is that
- 29:32Speaker 2: was like the tail end. No, that was in the
- 29:34Speaker 2: middle of the Royd era also with all those shutouts.
- 29:37Speaker 2: I mean, that was right after the home run chase.
- 29:39Speaker 2: This is Wikipedia.
- 29:40Speaker 1: A total of 193 shutouts were recorded across the regular
- 29:44Speaker 1: season during the 1999 MLB season.
- 29:46Speaker 2: That's nuts. McGuire and Sosa was 98. That was their
- 29:49Speaker 2: home run season the year before that they had the chase. So, wow.
- 29:55Speaker 2: It was cool to see last night, and it felt
- 29:57Speaker 2: like October baseball. in that series with those two teams.
- 30:00Speaker 2: They're both really good. I don't think the Dodgers are
- 30:03Speaker 2: going to be fine, even after this three-game sweep. I've
- 30:06Speaker 2: got no concerns about them moving forward with that roster,
- 30:09Speaker 2: that lineup, those pitchers. I mean, every night they're throwing out.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, yeah, oh, okay. Tyler Glass now is
- 30:15Speaker 2: pitching tonight. He's making a lot of money. Oh, Yamamoto,
- 30:19Speaker 2: this guy's making a lot of money. Just on down
- 30:21Speaker 2: the list of dudes they have that they can throw
- 30:23Speaker 2: at you is incredible. But for now... Go Braves. Huge
- 30:28Speaker 2: series sweep. Chop on. Chop on, baby.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Coming up, RG3 with interesting insight on what's going on
- 30:37Speaker 1: with the Browns. And he immediately jumps out on social
- 30:40Speaker 1: media when they named Deshaun Watson the starter and said,
- 30:43Speaker 1: I can tell you right now the head coach did
- 30:45Speaker 1: not want to make this decision. He wanted to go
- 30:48Speaker 1: the other direction. I want to discuss this because this
- 30:51Speaker 1: is not going to end well. It already is going
- 30:53Speaker 1: to be a total disaster. But The idea that we're
- 30:58Speaker 1: paying this guy, so let's play him in his final year.
- 31:02Speaker 1: I don't know why that makes any sense. Although, you know,
- 31:06Speaker 1: playing Shador might not either. We discuss that next year
- 31:08Speaker 1: on Hutton & Withrow. It is Hutton & Withrow here
- 31:12Speaker 1: at Sport & State. We are presented by Hard Rock Bet.

- 32:46Speaker 2: not a promise to make alone. Hutton, I've got a
- 32:49Speaker 2: promise for you. I'm going to feel a heck of
- 32:51Speaker 2: a lot better when I sneeze. I know you battle
- 32:54Speaker 2: allergies also, and I've got the morning sneeze that needs
- 32:58Speaker 2: to come out right now. I don't know if it
- 32:59Speaker 2: was the Birmingham air or what it is, but if
- 33:02Speaker 2: I sneeze once or twice, I'm going to feel so
- 33:04Speaker 2: much better. So I'm promising you right now that if
- 33:07Speaker 2: you see me looking up at a light, because that's
- 33:09Speaker 2: a trick that I've learned when you're about to sneeze,
- 33:12Speaker 2: I'm not having some sort of episode. I'm actually just
- 33:16Speaker 2: trying to get a sneeze out at some point, and
- 33:18Speaker 2: I'm going to feel glorious. the moment that happened. So
- 33:21Speaker 2: I give you full rights to do the play-by-play of
- 33:23Speaker 2: me sneezing if I mute this mic to sneeze at
- 33:25Speaker 2: some point. But it's badly needed this morning. I know
- 33:28Speaker 2: people with allergies out there are feeling my pain. Chime
- 33:30Speaker 2: in on the YouTube chat if you've got allergies too
- 33:32Speaker 2: and you know what it's like to get that morning
- 33:34Speaker 2: sneeze out of the way and feel so much better.
- 33:36Speaker 1: So I looked up how to avoid or how to
- 33:40Speaker 1: stop an impending sneeze. It says pinch your nose, Press
- 33:46Speaker 1: your tongue to the roof of your mouth or avoid
- 33:49Speaker 1: bright lights, it says. I'd always heard look at a
- 33:52Speaker 1: light as well. Well, avoid bright lights to stop the sneeze.
- 34:02Speaker 1: I'm trying to sneeze.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Oh, you want to get it done? So I look
- 34:04Speaker 2: at a bright light, yes. It's good to look up
- 34:06Speaker 2: at a light to help a sneeze come along. And
- 34:09Speaker 2: I've got bright lights in front of me too. But
- 34:11Speaker 2: if I look into the bright light, it might help
- 34:12Speaker 2: me sneeze. I want to sneeze. Do it right now.
- 34:16Speaker 2: I'd love for it to be during one of our breaks,
- 34:18Speaker 2: but that's not really happening for me. It feels like
- 34:20Speaker 2: every time we start talking, I'm about to sneeze. But, Hunt,
- 34:22Speaker 2: if it happens, I am going to feel glorious. Try
- 34:25Speaker 2: to do it right now.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Look at that light as I tell you what RG3
- 34:29Speaker 1: immediately said about Todd Munkin.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Go ahead. Mark in the chat, our guy Mark Herman says,
- 34:36Speaker 2: looking at a light can trigger the photic sneeze reflex.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Works better with the sun, though. I'm going to do
- 34:41Speaker 2: a remote broadcast, guys. It's sunny outside right now here
- 34:44Speaker 2: at my house. I'm going to take this in the
- 34:45Speaker 2: second half of the show and just go outside and
- 34:47Speaker 2: look at the sun the entire time and try to sneeze.
- 34:49Speaker 2: It's going to be great. Jacob's going to love that
- 34:51Speaker 2: once I bring this show outside. Watch your camera freeze
- 34:55Speaker 2: right as you do that, too. I'm feeling better now.
- 34:57Speaker 2: This is like therapy for allergies. Like talking through it? Yeah,
- 35:00Speaker 2: I'm talking through it. Now all of a sudden I
- 35:01Speaker 2: don't feel the need to sneeze as much as I
- 35:03Speaker 2: have the entire show. All I need to do, Hunt,
- 35:05Speaker 2: is sit down and talk to you about it. So
- 35:06Speaker 2: thank you for listening. I appreciate that.
- 35:09Speaker 1: So, RG3, when Deshaun Watson was named the QB1 in Cleveland,
- 35:15Speaker 1: which is ridiculous because he's already alienated himself with the
- 35:18Speaker 1: fans and he's going to get booed. He's playing 17
- 35:22Speaker 1: road games, basically.
- 35:25Speaker 2: This is RG3. He says, Sources.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Tell me Deshaun Watson was not, he put this on
- 35:30Speaker 1: all caps, was not Todd Munkin's choice as the starter.
- 35:35Speaker 2: And many in the building.
- 35:36Speaker 1: thought Shador Sanders was the right move for the team,
- 35:40Speaker 1: on and off the field, after Watson attacked the fans.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Browns want Deshaun to play for his pay. The fans
- 35:48Speaker 1: deserve better. So, correct me if I'm wrong, but I
- 35:52Speaker 1: remember Haslam, the owner, admitting that they made a mistake
- 35:57Speaker 1: and they need to learn from it whenever they signed
- 35:59Speaker 1: the contract with Watson. That was like a year ago,
- 36:03Speaker 1: and now they want him to play for his pay?
- 36:08Speaker 2: What are they doing?
- 36:10Speaker 1: I think that as far as talent around the quarterback goes,
- 36:15Speaker 1: Cleveland's pretty far down the list. They may be 32
- 36:17Speaker 1: in the league when it comes down to just best
- 36:21Speaker 1: players around a quarterback. Supporting cast, I guess you could
- 36:25Speaker 1: call it.
- 36:26Speaker 2: They're awful.
- 36:27Speaker 1: They just got rid of Miles Garrett as well. And
- 36:31Speaker 1: it's not like Watson is good. I mean, he has
- 36:35Speaker 1: sucked in since we last saw him in Houston in 2019.
- 36:38Speaker 1: And Shador wasn't great, but he wasn't awful based on
- 36:44Speaker 1: just reading off a stat sheet. It doesn't look like
- 36:47Speaker 1: Shador has sucked. I don't understand how you make this decision.
- 36:53Speaker 1: And if RG3 is correct, and I guess he played
- 36:56Speaker 1: for Munkin at some point, why would you hire a
- 37:01Speaker 1: coach and then come in after a quarterback battle, after
- 37:06Speaker 1: your quarterback stood up in front of the media and
- 37:08Speaker 1: said what he said about the fans, and then immediately
- 37:10Speaker 1: name him the starter.
- 37:12Speaker 2: It feels like self-sabotage. It's stupid. Yeah, it's weird. I
- 37:18Speaker 2: don't buy the RG3 argument. I mean, he would have
- 37:22Speaker 2: more connections than no. Yeah, I mean, he immediately said this.
- 37:26Speaker 2: But also, it's hard to, unless there's been a complete
- 37:29Speaker 2: change of heart or Jimmy Haslam just lying through his teeth,
- 37:32Speaker 2: because here's the quote you referenced, Sutton. This was at
- 37:35Speaker 2: the 2025 annual NFL meetings in March of 2025. Haslam
- 37:40Speaker 2: told reporters, quote, we took a big swing and miss
- 37:43Speaker 2: with Deshaun. There we go. We thought we had the quarterback.
- 37:46Speaker 2: We didn't. We thought we had the quarterback. We didn't.
- 37:48Speaker 2: And we gave up a lot of draft picks to
- 37:50Speaker 2: get him. So we've now got to dig ourselves out
- 37:53Speaker 2: of that hole. That does not sound like an owner
- 37:56Speaker 2: or a guy that is trying to dig themselves out
- 37:58Speaker 2: of the hole by making a guy play for his
- 38:01Speaker 2: money in the last year of the contract that you've
- 38:03Speaker 2: paid him. I don't buy that argument. Haslam also said
- 38:07Speaker 2: it was a collective organizational choice, but the decision ultimately
- 38:10Speaker 2: rests with him and his wife and co-owner Dee Haslam.
- 38:13Speaker 2: telling fans to hold them accountable more than anyone else.
- 38:16Speaker 2: No problem. Browns fans have definitely held Jimmy Haslam accountable
- 38:19Speaker 2: for that decision and a lot of other decisions with
- 38:22Speaker 2: the Browns organization. It feels like self-sabotage because none of
- 38:26Speaker 2: it makes sense based on the timing of the comments
- 38:29Speaker 2: about Cleveland fans, about it being personal with them booing him.
- 38:33Speaker 2: I don't know what you're accomplishing by starting him. All
- 38:36Speaker 2: it does really is probably help Deshaun Watson out. maybe
- 38:40Speaker 2: get a shot somewhere else because he's not staying in Cleveland.
- 38:43Speaker 2: You're not resigning him. This is the last year of
- 38:45Speaker 2: that guaranteed contract. If he goes out and plays well,
- 38:48Speaker 2: someone's probably going to take a chance on him to
- 38:49Speaker 2: be a starter in a situation where they desperately need
- 38:52Speaker 2: a starter for a year or two. But it's not
- 38:54Speaker 2: going to be in Cleveland. It doesn't help you at all.
- 38:59Speaker 2: I try to understand motivations, and I feel like if
- 39:02Speaker 2: I understand your motivation, I know a lot about you.
- 39:06Speaker 2: I don't even understand the motivation right now for the
- 39:09Speaker 2: Browns organization because you need to find out what you
- 39:12Speaker 2: have with Shador Sanders, as you said. I mean, if
- 39:14Speaker 2: that's something that's even a possibility, you're going to have
- 39:17Speaker 2: to find out about it, right? Here in Nashville with
- 39:20Speaker 2: Cam Ward, there's no doubt Cam Ward's the starter. He's
- 39:24Speaker 2: looked bad in the preseason so far. It doesn't matter.
- 39:27Speaker 2: like he's going to be given that chance with a
- 39:28Speaker 2: new offensive coordinator and as the number one pick you
- 39:31Speaker 2: know he's the guy you understand the motivation even if
- 39:34Speaker 2: he's sucking when he gets out in the regular season
- 39:37Speaker 2: right you're going to keep giving him shots to see
- 39:39Speaker 2: if he can figure it out i understand that with
- 39:42Speaker 2: the titans i don't understand this with the browns at.
- 39:44Speaker 1: All so Well said. So they wrapped up the preseason
- 39:49Speaker 1: last night. Cleveland did. He did not play. Watson didn't
- 39:52Speaker 1: play in the final preseason game. And he's like, pregame,
- 39:55Speaker 1: he's walking around and he's, I don't know what they
- 39:59Speaker 1: call their stadium now, but he's like signing autographs for
- 40:02Speaker 1: like kids. You know, like it just, and I was
- 40:05Speaker 1: reading a quote where Herb Street's talking about the second
- 40:09Speaker 1: chances and all this stuff.
- 40:10Speaker 2: It's like it. Going over the.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Top to make it seem like they're smoothing things over
- 40:18Speaker 1: a bit.
- 40:19Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I didn't hear it. I'm reading quotes. Half of a quote,
- 40:24Speaker 1: I guess you could call it. Half of a sentence
- 40:26Speaker 1: that's quoted in a story. Yeah, he hasn't been good.
- 40:32Speaker 1: The Titans played up there recently and played against him.
- 40:36Speaker 1: And he was awful. I'm not talking about Shador. Not
- 40:39Speaker 1: their most recent game, but Watson. Maybe that was the
- 40:44Speaker 1: same game.
- 40:44Speaker 2: I can't remember.
- 40:45Speaker 1: But I don't understand how you draft all these quarterbacks
- 40:49Speaker 1: and then you end up back with the guy who
- 40:51Speaker 1: doesn't represent what you're about. I thought owners just cut
- 40:56Speaker 1: their losses every now and then. Amy Adams Strunk would
- 40:59Speaker 1: have fired multiple people by now and paid them to leave.
- 41:02Speaker 1: I don't get why he's around.
- 41:07Speaker 2: I don't either. David in the YouTube chat says he's
- 41:10Speaker 2: doing what Jimmy Haslam tells him to do, talking about Munkin.
- 41:14Speaker 2: I just don't get it. I don't know why. Again,
- 41:18Speaker 2: Jimmy Haslam's already said it. He's already faced the music
- 41:21Speaker 2: on it, said it was a mistake. Why would he
- 41:23Speaker 2: come back on that a year later after he said
- 41:27Speaker 2: it was a mistake and say, you must play this guy?
- 41:29Speaker 2: I just don't. I mean, he allowed his organization also
- 41:33Speaker 2: to draft multiple quarterbacks.
- 41:35Speaker 1: I wonder, I guess RG3 may have crossed paths with
- 41:37Speaker 1: Munkin in Baltimore, maybe. But it's just how he says,
- 41:40Speaker 1: sources tell me Deshaun Watson was not Todd Munkin's choice
- 41:45Speaker 1: as the starter. And many in the building thought Shador
- 41:49Speaker 1: was the right move for the team on and off
- 41:52Speaker 1: the field. I can see where that's accurate. A lot
- 41:55Speaker 1: of people think, go Shador's way in this regard. Watson
- 41:58Speaker 1: attacked the fans. Browns want Deshaun to play for his pay.
- 42:07Speaker 2: I mean, why? He's going to tear an.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Achilles or something, rupture an Achilles, and he'll be injured
- 42:13Speaker 1: for his pay.
- 42:15Speaker 2: You're punishing your entire city and fan base by forcing,
- 42:19Speaker 2: by punishing him to go play for his pay, right?
- 42:24Speaker 2: None of that. I'm not buying it.
- 42:27Speaker 1: I'm also, I mean, what this is also going to
- 42:29Speaker 1: do is set this, I mean, They're home open. I
- 42:33Speaker 1: don't know if they're playing at home or away in
- 42:34Speaker 1: week one, but he will be booed throughout that entire game.
- 42:40Speaker 2: You know?
- 42:41Speaker 1: Just based on what he said. There's no apology after that.
- 42:45Speaker 2: I mean, he's going to have to be really good
- 42:46Speaker 2: for them to start cheering for him again.
- 42:49Speaker 1: Right, and you're right about that, though. We should mention that. Again,
- 42:53Speaker 1: I referenced Pac-Man. Pac-Man was getting cheered on the field
- 42:56Speaker 1: with all the legal stuff going on off the field.
- 42:58Speaker 1: He's spitting in women's faces and doing all this stuff
- 43:00Speaker 1: and getting arrested. but he returns a punt for a touchdown,
- 43:05Speaker 1: and everyone's going crazy at Nissan Stadium.
- 43:09Speaker 2: You're right.
- 43:09Speaker 1: That will happen if he plays very well, but I
- 43:13Speaker 1: seriously doubt that does happen.
- 43:16Speaker 2: He may be returning home 0-2 because they open the season,
- 43:19Speaker 2: the Browns do, in Jacksonville and in Tampa Bay in
- 43:22Speaker 2: the state of Florida. They come back home to play
- 43:24Speaker 2: Carolina on September 27th. That will be the first home
- 43:28Speaker 2: game of the Browns' season. If they're 0-2 and he
- 43:31Speaker 2: takes the field that day, great opportunity for those Cleveland
- 43:34Speaker 2: fans to boo the hell out of that guy once
- 43:36Speaker 2: he takes the field. Who knows? He may look so
- 43:38Speaker 2: bad in those first two that Shador is the starter
- 43:40Speaker 2: by game number three also. Again, I can't buy the
- 43:45Speaker 2: RG3 explanation on this that Jimmy Haslam now. Jimmy Haslam also,
- 43:48Speaker 2: by the way, if he's this grandmaster puppeteer of the
- 43:52Speaker 2: Browns organization, he's the one who allowed them to draft
- 43:55Speaker 2: two quarterbacks a year ago in the same draft of
- 43:58Speaker 2: Dylan Gabriel and Shador Sanders. And then after doing that says,
- 44:01Speaker 2: you must play Deshaun Watson, the guy I've already publicly
- 44:04Speaker 2: admitted to being a mistake for this organization. I demand
- 44:08Speaker 2: you play this guy over the two guys I allowed
- 44:10Speaker 2: you to draft a year ago. Something's not quite adding up.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Chad, I'm going to get into my top coaches in
- 44:16Speaker 1: the NFL next week. But this season with Cleveland, we
- 44:20Speaker 1: are going to see how valuable and how good Kevin
- 44:22Speaker 1: Stefanski was for them. Two-time coach of the year. And
- 44:25Speaker 1: now he's in Atlanta.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Did you see Todd Munkin respond when Lane Kiffin said
- 44:32Speaker 2: he didn't call him, doesn't even have his number, and
- 44:34Speaker 2: he was asked about it and his clarification? No, what did.
- 44:37Speaker 1: He say?
- 44:38Speaker 2: He is not winning over a lot of confidence with
- 44:40Speaker 2: me with this decision and everything else. He just, oh, yeah,
- 44:43Speaker 2: you know, I guess I should speak more clearly. Oh,
- 44:46Speaker 2: my gosh. You know, I said we got a call,
- 44:49Speaker 2: and I guess it was one of my staffers or someone,
- 44:52Speaker 2: and maybe it wasn't from Lane, maybe it was from
- 44:54Speaker 2: somebody else, and I should probably be more clear when
- 44:57Speaker 2: I speak. and tell stories like that. Basically what he's
- 45:00Speaker 2: saying is like, Hey man, it's just you and me talking, right?
- 45:03Speaker 2: Like I'm just telling a story. He's saying he made
- 45:04Speaker 2: it up. Yeah. He's basically like, I made it all
- 45:07Speaker 2: up and don't, don't kill me over it. But somebody
- 45:10Speaker 2: got a call, but he wouldn't say who, he wouldn't
- 45:12Speaker 2: say who made the call to him. Cause look, it's
- 45:15Speaker 2: tampering too. Like you're, you're accusing whoever made the call
- 45:18Speaker 2: of tampering with an NFL contract. That could be some
- 45:21Speaker 2: legal issues with that also. But so who did it?
- 45:24Speaker 2: Was it, was it Ed Orgeron? That called on his staff?
- 45:27Speaker 2: Was it somebody else? We know Ed Orgeron will get
- 45:29Speaker 2: involved with players. He did when they left Knoxville. I
- 45:32Speaker 2: think he was the one making the call saying don't
- 45:33Speaker 2: go to class to all the Tennessee players.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I don't think it would be Kiffin that would even
- 45:38Speaker 1: pick up the phone. I think it would be their GM, right,
- 45:40Speaker 1: at LSU.
- 45:43Speaker 2: It's somebody. It's somebody on staff called somebody on my staff.
- 45:46Speaker 2: And I'm thinking, dude, first off, don't say Lane Kiffin
- 45:50Speaker 2: called and I should have called him back. And second,
- 45:53Speaker 2: if that's not true, you know who it was. We
- 45:55Speaker 2: understood him. He said Kiffin called him. Right. Well, basically,
- 46:01Speaker 2: I lied. I told a story that was a fun story.
- 46:04Speaker 2: That's not true. And now I've been called to the
- 46:06Speaker 2: carpet on it. And I don't really have a good explanation.
- 46:09Speaker 2: But what you should come back and say, okay, here's
- 46:11Speaker 2: what happened. A guy, here's who got the call. Here's
- 46:14Speaker 2: who called. I just would have laid it out there.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Especially if it was my player at the time. Because
- 46:18Speaker 2: I would have been pissed. I'm like, Their GM, such
- 46:21Speaker 2: and such, called my offensive analyst, who they have a
- 46:25Speaker 2: relationship with, and said, are you going to cut this
- 46:27Speaker 2: guy because we want him, because we're trying to go
- 46:29Speaker 2: get him? Say it plainly, clearly. What's interesting, too. Communication
- 46:34Speaker 2: 101 here for Todd.
- 46:35Speaker 1: These are guys, like, it's interesting. Like, these guys don't
- 46:38Speaker 1: get picked up on the waiver wire, you know? Like,
- 46:42Speaker 1: they're just out of the league. They're good players. They
- 46:47Speaker 1: will make a difference for LSU. But if this were
- 46:51Speaker 1: a starter or a fringe starter, a good special teams player,
- 46:57Speaker 1: the NFL would be pissed off for greatness over this.
- 47:00Speaker 1: You would see some lawsuits and other things about tampering. But,
- 47:04Speaker 1: I mean, you're under contract at the time. And, I mean,
- 47:11Speaker 1: you've got players in college that are making $ 6.
- 47:14Speaker 2: Million a season or upwards of that. That's what they're saying.
- 47:17Speaker 1: And these guys are probably getting up. got a $ 30, 000
- 47:20Speaker 1: signing bonus to go to camp. Uh, I would want
- 47:23Speaker 1: to go back to college too, if I'm these dudes.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Um, absolutely. Also, I'd love for someone to pick them
- 47:29Speaker 2: up off waivers. Oh, that would be hilarious. To make
- 47:31Speaker 2: them make a choice. No, you're going to have to
- 47:33Speaker 2: deny that you've been picked up and you're going to
- 47:35Speaker 2: have to leave the NFL to go to college. You're
- 47:37Speaker 2: not just going to get this as easy as you want.
- 47:39Speaker 2: I think that'd be hilarious. Hey, real quick.
- 47:41Speaker 1: I heard that, or I didn't hear this. I read
- 47:43Speaker 1: this earlier. Um, It would be interesting if Todd Munkin
- 47:47Speaker 1: tried to trade for Stetson Bennett and coach him again
- 47:51Speaker 1: in Cleveland. That would be something. If Stetson Bennett comes
- 47:55Speaker 1: to Cleveland and makes it work like he did at Georgia.
- 47:58Speaker 1: If that were to happen.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Ty Simpson looks good with the Rams, so that would
- 48:02Speaker 2: make sense.
- 48:03Speaker 1: If that were to happen during a college football game,
- 48:07Speaker 1: we're not going to read it on the screen. We
- 48:09Speaker 1: discussed that coming up here on Hutton and Withrow. Dutton
- 48:13Speaker 1: and Withrow, we are presented by Hard Rock Bet. We've
- 48:17Speaker 1: got some football discussion coming up. We're going to discuss
- 48:21Speaker 1: the scroller.
- 48:23Speaker 2: What's it called, Chad? The ticker? The ticker, thank you.
- 48:26Speaker 2: It's called the ticker, yeah. We've got one here on
- 48:28Speaker 2: our show, too. It's what scrolls on the bottom of
- 48:30Speaker 2: our show. Thank you. It's a ticker. The scroller. Yes,
- 48:33Speaker 2: the ticker. We go to resident tech expert Jacob Lutz
- 48:37Speaker 2: to explain exactly what we call this thing. I believe
- 48:39Speaker 2: it's a ticker. But I'm sure there's different words from
- 48:42Speaker 2: different people. Why is that called a ticker? It doesn't
- 48:48Speaker 2: make a ticking noise, but it does tick one score
- 48:51Speaker 2: after the other. It's a good question. I don't know.
- 48:54Speaker 2: It's interesting.
- 48:55Speaker 1: Accidents do not wait. For great timing. One bad moment,
- 49:01Speaker 1: a wreck, a fall, a doctor who wasn't paying attention.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Suddenly you're fighting an insurance company that does this every
- 49:06Speaker 1: single day. And that's why Clay started Clay Travis Law.
- 49:09Speaker 1: He's a Vanderbilt Law grad and he built a firm
- 49:12Speaker 1: around one idea. People deserve someone willing to pay attention,
- 49:17Speaker 1: ask the hard questions, and push back when things don't
- 49:19Speaker 1: add up.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Up.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Experienced trial attorneys who bring the fight to corporations and insurers.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Based in Nashville, trusted across the country.
- 49:29Speaker 2: Car and truck wrecks, ride share accidents, medical malpractice, premises liability,
- 49:33Speaker 2: product liability. If you were wrong, they want to hear
- 49:36Speaker 2: about it. And here's what they promise. Honesty. They're not
- 49:39Speaker 2: going to sugarcoat your case. You'll hear what it's actually worth,
- 49:42Speaker 2: not what you want to hear. Case evaluation is free.
- 49:45Speaker 2: No charge, no pressure, no hassle. Just tell them your story.
- 49:48Speaker 2: Go to claytravislaw.com or call them at 877-222-4444. That's 877-222-4444.
- 49:55Speaker 2: That's claytravislaw.com. No case is too big or too small.
- 50:03Speaker 1: Lutz tells us it's actually called the bottom line.
- 50:06Speaker 2: So it's not called a ticker. I mean... So that's
- 50:10Speaker 2: what ESPN calls it, right? Like I'm never going to
- 50:13Speaker 2: call what we have on our show, the bottom line.
- 50:16Speaker 2: I would refer to it as a ticker. So I
- 50:17Speaker 2: think he's right. That's like the ESPN nomenclature of how
- 50:21Speaker 2: they describe it. But also like, I'm not going to fall.
- 50:24Speaker 2: It's almost like saying, you know, the, the, you said,
- 50:26Speaker 2: I don't know what the Cleveland Brown stadium is called anymore.
- 50:28Speaker 2: I don't either. It's like having to go with a
- 50:30Speaker 2: corporate sponsor of everything, because that's what they call it.
- 50:33Speaker 2: You know, I'm still going to call it whatever I
- 50:35Speaker 2: want to call it also. So, On this show, we
- 50:37Speaker 2: call it the ticker, but Lutz is right. ESPN calls
- 50:41Speaker 2: it the bottom line.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Why are they doing away with this during college football games?
- 50:44Speaker 1: What's the premise of this decision?
- 50:47Speaker 2: I haven't even read their explanation as to why they
- 50:50Speaker 2: would do it. Here would be my possible rationale for it. One,
- 50:56Speaker 2: it's a pain in the ass to operate. Whoever does
- 50:58Speaker 2: it back in Bristol or whoever's working on it, and
- 51:00Speaker 2: they don't want to deal with it anymore, whether it
- 51:02Speaker 2: be for lack of a workforce because of all their
- 51:04Speaker 2: layoffs or whatever— That could be one possible issue with it.
- 51:09Speaker 2: The other is they want you locked in on their
- 51:12Speaker 2: game that you're watching at that time, and they don't
- 51:15Speaker 2: want you seeing a score at the bottom that may
- 51:18Speaker 2: revert you to another game, like let's say a game
- 51:21Speaker 2: on Fox. Not just the ESPN family, but like, hey,
- 51:25Speaker 2: Michigan just scored here. That game is now tied. I
- 51:28Speaker 2: saw that on the ticker. I'm going to go away
- 51:30Speaker 2: from this ESPN property, this SEC game on ABC, and
- 51:33Speaker 2: go to that. That would be a second possibility as
- 51:35Speaker 2: to why you would do away with it. The third,
- 51:37Speaker 2: and I think the one that I have seen some
- 51:39Speaker 2: people at ESPN talk about, is they want a cleaner
- 51:42Speaker 2: look and feel for the broadcast when they do that.
- 51:44Speaker 2: I sent you guys a funny tweet from someone, though,
- 51:47Speaker 2: that said, here's ESPN's new bottom line after they make
- 51:51Speaker 2: it look cleaner for college football, and it's a gigantic
- 51:53Speaker 2: picture of Pat McAfee. and a promo for him calling
- 51:57Speaker 2: something with WWE that takes up the bottom half of
- 51:59Speaker 2: the screen, which is really funny, which is probably what
- 52:02Speaker 2: will happen. It's also, Hutton, I think another reason for
- 52:06Speaker 2: this is it's another way they're going to throw ads
- 52:08Speaker 2: on the bottom of the screen. I think the ticker
- 52:11Speaker 2: goes away with scores, and I think they're going to
- 52:14Speaker 2: hammer you with advertising at the bottom of the screen.
- 52:17Speaker 2: I don't think the bottom, the lower third is going
- 52:19Speaker 2: away from the ticker. I think they're going to put
- 52:21Speaker 2: ads up there. I do not think this is a
- 52:23Speaker 2: good thing. The more I think about it, at first
- 52:27Speaker 2: I was like, okay, that's interesting. I kind of understand
- 52:31Speaker 2: where they're going with this, but the more I think
- 52:33Speaker 2: about it, I don't like it. I also think that
- 52:36Speaker 2: it makes you go to your phone more when you're
- 52:39Speaker 2: watching a game. I guess they're assuming we're already there.
- 52:42Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe. And look, it's not like ESPN
- 52:46Speaker 2: doesn't benefit also if you're streaming something through them on
- 52:49Speaker 2: your phone.
- 52:50Speaker 1: But I want to be alerted if the SEC game
- 52:53Speaker 1: is going to kick off a little bit later, if
- 52:55Speaker 1: they're holding kickoff because of another broadcast. That's where we
- 52:59Speaker 1: would be alerted to what channel it's.
- 53:00Speaker 2: Going to, right? Yeah, this game is now on ESPN News. Yeah.
- 53:05Speaker 2: That type of alert on it can be seen now
- 53:07Speaker 2: on SEC Network Plus or whatever for the game that
- 53:10Speaker 2: has started because your game is going late. I just
- 53:13Speaker 2: assumed AI did all this. They could flash that up
- 53:15Speaker 2: there during the game that's going over time-wise, which always happens. Yeah.
- 53:19Speaker 2: And say, hey, you know, the yellow flash alert. If
- 53:22Speaker 2: you want to watch Tennessee and Arkansas, you can go
- 53:24Speaker 2: to ESPN2 right now and watch it.
- 53:27Speaker 1: I just think it's, I don't know, like half the
- 53:30Speaker 1: games I want to watch are on ESPN or ABC anyway.
- 53:34Speaker 1: You know, like I don't feel like they're, I mean.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Everybody's trying to watch all these different games at one time.
- 53:40Speaker 1: I would rather be able to look at a score
- 53:42Speaker 1: and know to go and watch the game than not.
- 53:45Speaker 2: But, you know, whatever.
- 53:47Speaker 1: And if they don't want to show the Fox score,
- 53:49Speaker 1: they could control that, right? They could just omit the
- 53:53Speaker 1: big new kickoff score if they wanted to.
- 53:55Speaker 2: I think even in the pettiness... of network wars over
- 54:02Speaker 2: sports and live sporting events, that would maybe be the
- 54:04Speaker 2: pettiest thing I've ever seen.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Or don't rotate it as much. If they were worried
- 54:10Speaker 1: about that. If they just go to top 25 to start,
- 54:13Speaker 1: it's always top 25. And they've got two ranked teams
- 54:15Speaker 1: on Fox, or they've got two ranked teams on another network,
- 54:17Speaker 1: on CBS, on their Big Ten game, and they're not
- 54:20Speaker 1: going to show it on ESPN because of all that.
- 54:22Speaker 2: That would be a heightened level of petty competition. that
- 54:25Speaker 2: I don't know that we've seen, so I think they'd
- 54:26Speaker 2: look really bad for doing that. Yeah, I don't think
- 54:28Speaker 2: it's that, though.
- 54:29Speaker 1: I'm not saying they've done away with it because of viewership.
- 54:36Speaker 1: I mean, they're going to have one of the best
- 54:39Speaker 1: games anyway.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Okay, let me give you a positive for this. I've
- 54:43Speaker 2: thought about this way too much. You're right about the ads.
- 54:46Speaker 2: I spend so much time watching college football that I've
- 54:49Speaker 2: thought way too much about this. One positive is, and
- 54:53Speaker 2: I don't know if people can chime in I want
- 54:56Speaker 2: to hear from people in the YouTube chat also what
- 54:57Speaker 2: they think about it. Give me a positive and a
- 55:00Speaker 2: negative from this as to why you would do it
- 55:03Speaker 2: and why you like it or why you don't. I
- 55:05Speaker 2: think one positive is oftentimes if I'm watching, let's say,
- 55:08Speaker 2: a Tennessee game where I'm watching every snap, or it
- 55:11Speaker 2: could be a Vandy game I'm watching every snap. With
- 55:13Speaker 2: YouTube TV, I will go away from that game and
- 55:16Speaker 2: go somewhere else. I can go back to where I
- 55:20Speaker 2: was watching and resume watching. So I may watch the
- 55:23Speaker 2: end of a drive. for a game that's not the
- 55:26Speaker 2: game I'm watching primarily as my first game. And on
- 55:30Speaker 2: that ticker, I might get updated on something that happened
- 55:32Speaker 2: I don't want to see because I'm waiting to go
- 55:35Speaker 2: back to that game. Do you see what I'm saying?
- 55:37Speaker 2: There could be a score update, and it's, oh, Tennessee
- 55:39Speaker 2: scored again, or the opponent scored. Yeah, I see what
- 55:42Speaker 2: you're saying. Or now they have the ball, and I
- 55:44Speaker 2: see that because I can't look away when it flashes
- 55:46Speaker 2: on the ticker, and I didn't want to see it
- 55:48Speaker 2: because I was actually going to go back and hit
- 55:49Speaker 2: resume watching from last watch. and fast-forward through a commercial
- 55:54Speaker 2: and start catching up through plays, right? To me, that
- 55:56Speaker 2: was the biggest positive of this.
- 55:58Speaker 1: That would always happen watching SportsCenter growing up. You'd watch SportsCenter,
- 56:02Speaker 1: and then the ticker would show the score of the
- 56:05Speaker 1: highlight you're watching with Dan Patrick and Eisen and all them.
- 56:10Speaker 1: I mean, this is just during the games, though, right?
- 56:13Speaker 1: I mean, again, ESPN should have put the scores on
- 56:17Speaker 1: the screen.
- 56:19Speaker 2: But you're right.
- 56:20Speaker 1: They're going to put ads up there or gambling.
- 56:22Speaker 2: But again, if you don't want to be spoiled, you
- 56:26Speaker 2: don't want a score spoiler, that's the only benefit I
- 56:30Speaker 2: could see to it. But most people aren't doing one.
- 56:33Speaker 2: Most people aren't psychotic like me, and they're not doing that.
- 56:35Speaker 2: They're either staying on that game the whole time, even
- 56:37Speaker 2: through a commercial because it's their team, and they're not
- 56:39Speaker 2: going to turn away and watch something else. I turn
- 56:41Speaker 2: away and watch other things all the time during a
- 56:44Speaker 2: commercial and then try to go back and catch up live.
- 56:46Speaker 2: We'll have the quad box. Yes. Absolutely, and that's not
- 56:50Speaker 2: going to spoil anything because you're going to see all
- 56:52Speaker 2: of it in the quad box also with YouTube TV.
- 56:55Speaker 2: But I think that's just a very specific example of
- 56:59Speaker 2: how no score ticker could be a positive. I think
- 57:02Speaker 2: they want to force ads on it. I think they
- 57:05Speaker 2: want to force more ESPN promos as part of it.
- 57:08Speaker 2: It's going to be a thing. And they're going to
- 57:09Speaker 2: act like, well, what we're doing is we're further engaging
- 57:12Speaker 2: you to stay on this game that we have instead
- 57:15Speaker 2: of motivating you to go to another game because– You
- 57:19Speaker 2: saw some big score update you weren't expecting. And I
- 57:22Speaker 2: don't buy it.
- 57:25Speaker 1: Chad, what college football is doing, they are buying quarterbacks.
- 57:29Speaker 1: We've discussed the pay-for-play across college football and specifically, we'll
- 57:37Speaker 1: tell you the top-tier numbers. And return on investment here.
- 57:42Speaker 1: What our projection would be based on what these guys
- 57:46Speaker 1: are getting paid.
- 57:46Speaker 2: It's insane. That's next year on How to Withdraw.
