Transcript
- 0:00Yesterday we were told, and here that one of the greatest
- 0:04displays of humility or major challenges of arrogance is how
- 0:09you handle insults, how you handle comments and things told
- 0:13to you. So I was just telling David
- 0:15before that evaded that over the course of the last about 24
- 0:21hours since we learned this idea, I had three instances at
- 0:26least where people said things not her fault, not meant to be
- 0:31her fault at all, but things that if you don't, you're not
- 0:34wary, you're not careful, you can react as if it's a big deal.
- 0:38I'll give you an example. And I can't give it exactly for
- 0:41Gray. And that is someone's referred
- 0:43to this shoe and certain organization that once in a
- 0:46while gets to use the shoe, all right, And they ask us to use it
- 0:51and reuse it, and they're connected.
- 0:53So they get to use it. And some referred to the shoe to
- 0:57my wife's as that organization. Sure, OK, as if like it's their
- 1:04it's like almost like the organization's auditorium, so to
- 1:08speak, whatever. And not even knowing in my life
- 1:11is like the wife of the person who's involved in the show.
- 1:15She's talking about the organization.
- 1:16So where they doing their thing in that organization?
- 1:19Sure. And then they say even more.
- 1:21They said it's so. And so is the rabbi of that show
- 1:24now? I mean, so we talked to my wife.
- 1:27No clue, literally no clue. So I'm thinking to myself, every
- 1:31time they have an event here, I clean up every time they have
- 1:35events here, I'm the one to make sure that I deal with the
- 1:38neighbors, right? And you don't even get the, the,
- 1:42the call to gratification or at least the, the basic things.
- 1:46What am I think of? I am I the am I cleaning the
- 1:49floors? So then it's, you know, at
- 1:52first, if you're at all Oregon or even, you know, looking for
- 1:56attention, then that's a very natural reaction.
- 1:59It's like Lou and I follow used to joke about the honeymooners
- 2:02or the guy, the guy's a bus driver.
- 2:06I'm sure you've heard about this thing.
- 2:08You know this one, the guy's a bus driver and his friends that
- 2:11come in to visit him and tell him, what do you do?
- 2:13We run a bus, he runs the bus company.
- 2:15So that day he makes she tells the friends to come.
- 2:18He makes sure the boss not in the office and he sits in the
- 2:21office as if he runs the bus company.
- 2:23Really just a bus driver, right? That's what that feeling feels
- 2:26like in the reverse. Follow me.
- 2:28So that was one example, one of those, another example is even
- 2:32something someone made a comment this morning.
- 2:33I can't even give the exact example, but it's a completely
- 2:36innocent comment. But again, a misunderstood or if
- 2:40you're at all arrogant or if you allow yourself to get insulted.
- 2:43Often these things happen all the time.
- 2:45Now, what's the idea? The idea is that there are
- 2:48people who have antennas raised very, very high and their
- 2:52antennas, excuse me, their antennas are picking up on any
- 2:56comment coming their way and they translate into a knock, a
- 3:02knock, a knock, and they drive themselves crazy.
- 3:06And then there are people like what he's telling you right here
- 3:08with his humility. And he's David said the most
- 3:11extreme example of someone bringing breaking a 456, someone
- 3:16breaking a lamp on top of his head.
- 3:18The rabbi and the rabbi telling the woman, why do you do it?
- 3:21Because it's like my my husband told me.
- 3:23I was told me, right. Exactly.
- 3:25It's on ballet you're doing your husband's willing.
- 3:27She blessed with great children. That is the opposite of this
- 3:30approach. And that is someone who's not
- 3:33you know, you think he's a Sadiq.
- 3:34He is a Sadiq. But if you break it down and
- 3:36you're real, it's no big deal. Truth of the matter is he's
- 3:40looking at the situation and saying they did not mean to say
- 3:45an insult and they were not targeting me.
- 3:49And if you apply this concept takes a lot of work, but if you
- 3:53apply this concept well enough, you will realize a very large
- 3:57percentage of the time things that are seemed to be insulting
- 4:01and hurtful are really nothing more than them just doing their
- 4:06thing. Whether like we said, they're
- 4:07insecure, they're they have low self esteem.
- 4:10So just in comments or they don't know about it, they don't
- 4:12know what they're saying. So very often that is the case.
- 4:16And if you have a high antenna antenna and you're picking every
- 4:19line up, you're going to get crazy.
- 4:22If you are real with yourself and you're saying to yourself, I
- 4:25don't want my blood to boil, I'd be a lot happier if I was less
- 4:28insulted. If you really wish, if you wish
- 4:32to be content and be happy and not angry, you will.
- 4:36If I told you listen, if I gave you $100 every time someone says
- 4:41a nasty line and you have to find for me the way to see this,
- 4:47the positive light or see the innocent light, I can guarantee
- 4:52you, I can guarantee you majority of the times you can
- 4:56translate that insult into an odd insult.
- 5:00For every single insult you get $100, not $1,000,000 a $100.
- 5:06If you are able to translate into a positive or innocent
- 5:09translation, you would be able to become a wealthy man by the
- 5:13way and you also be fine figuring it out.
- 5:17Agree or disagree, I think this is 100% true, 100% true.
- 5:23You can translate everything that comes your way.
- 5:25Comments by the wife, comments by the mother, Uma, all the
- 5:29classic ones, comments by their friends, comments by the
- 5:32children, comments by the siblings and giving people too
- 5:34much bright. I disagree.
- 5:36I think it's I'll tell you these examples.
- 5:38It's hard, so it's hard, but it could.
- 5:41Be listen, when when you just destroyed that story you didn't
- 5:45set, you described you, the person in charge of this shoe,
- 5:49but that you know, you're the rabbi of this shoe.
- 5:52You you'd be, why'd you say the person involved in the show?
- 5:55Like you're like the person didn't even know that.
- 5:58You were involved in it, man, in.
- 6:01Charge of every show thinks they're better than the next
- 6:03person. It's just the way it.
- 6:04Is I understand that's how he acts so far so innocent as you,
- 6:06but this I'm not saying innocent.
- 6:08The source of comments, the source of insults is all from a
- 6:13broken people, which means insecure challenge Hazit.
- 6:19They feel very guilty about their own life, so they try to
- 6:22take you down all those translations that diminishes
- 6:25they're doing and a lot, a lot of times they don't know better
- 6:28then it was the saying. Someone told me a comment this
- 6:31morning he had no idea was insinuating 0 idea.
- 6:34I can't even go further because it'll be it's on tape.
- 6:36But it was 0 idea and he was insinuating something which if
- 6:42I, if I even know again was insecure.
- 6:45Which pink card the room boy, I hope I'm not.
- 6:47I would I, I, if I, if I analyze you know the words themselves.
- 6:51You take it the wrong way, you get crazy.
- 6:54You know this is how the world works.
- 6:56So a person has to be able to lower the antenna a lot for your
- 7:01own sake, your own happiness. Literally you become wealthier.
- 7:05I, I gave the example of $100 and shoot the matter.
- 7:07It's $1,000,000. Every time you let an insult
- 7:10insult go, you are becoming literally a millionaire.
- 7:13It's the greatest we said yesterday.
- 7:16Now let's see another example. LLL LL person should be as
- 7:29humble as a little. You know the example, right?
- 7:33Someone came to and someone came to and they knocked on the door.
- 7:40Say I have a question. Where is Halil?
- 7:43Is it? It's me.
- 7:44OK, I have a question. What's your question?
- 7:47The degree around the place of the world?
- 7:49What's your question? Why do let's say?
- 7:54That. Is certain people around OK?
- 7:58That's the question for the rabbi who just came out of the
- 8:01the Beth Amir hats. Whatever was wearing a robe
- 8:04right before Shabbat isn't a boring question.
- 8:07And it gives the answer because it leaves.
- 8:09OK, how's back and how's the door is LL here?
- 8:13It's him speaking. I have a question.
- 8:15Why do Africans have flat feet? Why their feet?
- 8:19Because you have to walk on sand.
- 8:20That's the question for the Rabba.
- 8:22Go on comes back. Another question.
- 8:24Why does so and so have wide eyes?
- 8:26Because and then the midwives did a bad job whatever because
- 8:29they have to deal with sand going into the eyes and one by
- 8:31one of you just answers the question and add everything the
- 8:34guy that the person says so sort of comment like I lost whatever
- 8:39it was. The hell is where you meet?
- 8:41He says. I had a bet that I can make you
- 8:43angry and you cost me 400 zoos. So first from.
- 8:48That with somebody that if he can make him nervous, he's going
- 8:51to get him mad. He's about you going to do.
- 8:55But I love you now. Yeah, I know.
- 8:57Sure. You can handle that.
- 9:01What's the point? The boys and they all displayed
- 9:04such unbelievable humility. Able to handle all these darts
- 9:08thrown his way. Imagine you go over to the rabbi
- 9:11of the world and you're telling you, asking him silly comments
- 9:14and you're driving him crazy. And now once as he lash out, now
- 9:18once does he say, what are you doing?
- 9:21Come back Saturday night. Nothing.
- 9:23He just takes it in stride and gives the person the answer.
- 9:27You could save me to you could save me to this.
- 9:30You could save me to that. Nothing doing.
- 9:32There's women and then right And then they all says, the man says
- 9:36you cost me 400 zoos. You know, you made me lose my
- 9:38bet. Halo says it's worth it.
- 9:41It's worth it for this lesson. And that's the final point of
- 9:45the story of Halo and that is it's worth it for this lesson.
- 9:48There is 0 price you can pay. There is no price you can place
- 9:54on this quality. It's the greatest quality for
- 9:59the function of our lives as the ability to lower our antenna.
- 10:04There's really no price you can pay to become a person who can
- 10:08be part of a friendship and not get crazy.
- 10:10Part of the marriage and not be constantly burning mad and
- 10:13insulted. Part of a relationship with
- 10:15siblings. And I always translate
- 10:16everything as reflecting that they're bad.
- 10:18Part of it being a child to their parents and not taking the
- 10:21pair everything the parent says or in law says as a as a dig at
- 10:24them. And even if Amo is digging at
- 10:26them, it's possible because Amo wants him around more or it was
- 10:30very protective of the daughter. Whatever it may be.
- 10:32There were always ways you can translate back onto the clear
- 10:36lane and there are very natural ignorant ways or maybe unworked
- 10:42on ways where a person could be constantly insulted.
- 10:46Everything flying in the air, you can translate and something
- 10:50come out coming out of you and everything come out coming out
- 10:53you. You can translate as just water
- 10:56out down your back and you're moving on and it changes your
- 10:59life. Literally.
- 11:00Life for many people is an up and down day.
- 11:04Burning mad, I got over, upset I got over.
- 11:07That bothers me. I got over and their life is not
- 11:11content and not happy. And there are other people that
- 11:14they remain steady. The greatest thing to be is
- 11:16steady, balance, calm. You can never rattle them
- 11:20because you don't mean anything against them and that makes them
- 11:23the most beautiful people for themselves, for their family as
- 11:27a source of strength. And by the way, they just search
- 11:31in calming existence to be around because you have a
- 11:34nervous what you're going to say.
- 11:35You ever afraid of them? You never apologizing a million
- 11:39times, right? There are some people you have
- 11:40to apologize as words come out of your mouth and you Hajj, you
- 11:44can't breathe around them. Why can't you breathe?
- 11:46Because everything is meant to hurt them in their mind and the
- 11:49other people, you'll never need to apologize.
- 11:52You insult them, sure. I, I think I work on this all
- 11:57the time. I think the more a person
- 11:58becomes that, the more they ooze a sense of calm, confidence,
- 12:04hand structure, balance, all the steady words that a Jew wants to
- 12:09have, they have when they lower their antenna.
- 12:12Some people it's very hard to do, but some people it comes
- 12:16actually whatever we're holding at our job is cut the intended
- 12:21down just a Ted and make yourself more heavier like you
- 12:24know what you get by the way, the closing of the my favorite
- 12:29point is this. We go like Beti Liu.
- 12:32How like Beti Liu not like bitch am I?
- 12:36Why is Allah like Beti Liu the. Reason that they're more on
- 12:41Avene that they most. Because they're humble.
- 12:44They don't. Because they're humble.
- 12:46See the reason we go like them? Because they have humility, part
- 12:50of the same camp as the leader, because we know students follow
- 12:53the leader themselves. They have the idea of humility.
- 12:56What is that humility? For example, whenever they
- 13:00quoted him a Cloquet, they would mention the opposition first.
- 13:04But Jamai says this and we say that, all right.
- 13:07They wouldn't just go straight to their opinion.
- 13:09They wouldn't say their opinion first.
- 13:10They don't do that anymore. Well, mention that doesn't.
- 13:13Mention opposition's opinion. Fair, fair, fair.
- 13:16It's true. We are a little sensitive, we
- 13:18are a little delicate. We're crystal.
- 13:20We're very careful. We're very, you know, afraid of
- 13:22rattling the feathers. We don't think people can handle
- 13:25things. All that is correct, David, and
- 13:26that is a weakness partially on our part today.
- 13:29Sometimes you don't want to go down roads of people you don't
- 13:31believe in, but in general, we don't go down the debating Rd.
- 13:37enough on too much. Maybe Fairpoint, but the idea is
- 13:41Halil Meriti, the Holocaust, like them Halil Meriti great
- 13:46Baraka why humility is nice. Not getting insulted is great.
- 13:51How does that make the law like you?
- 13:52You know what ends up happening? I believe there's so important
- 13:56when you're humble and you're able to have a lower antenna,
- 13:59you have a steady force. When you have a steady force,
- 14:02you can be more aware of the truth.
- 14:04You can be more out there for the truth.
- 14:06You're not trying to get your point across.
- 14:08You're not trying to win. You're not trying to beat the
- 14:10other guy, dude, just trying to get the and you know what ends
- 14:14up happening? You actually strive for the
- 14:17truth. When people are steady and
- 14:20people are not so insecure and fighting and insulted and
- 14:25fighting back. They keep their eye on the ball
- 14:28and they able to get the truth. They able to get Shalom, they
- 14:31able to get balance, they able to get better.
- 14:33They able to get hand. They able to get steady
- 14:36confidence. It's all one stream.
- 14:38All we know that that works. All these me dots coming to each
- 14:41other, humility plays into Shalom plays into balance plays
- 14:46into hand plays into confidence plays into emirate.
- 14:49They all connect. Now if a person in the modern
- 14:52day, I think the greatest source of having that entire stream is
- 14:58by being confident enough to not have your intended to high, to
- 15:03get insulted all the time. If you're steady and confident
- 15:05enough, you will get all these things that are beautiful in our
- 15:08lives like Khalil. That's how far it goes.
- 15:10Movies. And I'm not exaggerating at all
- 15:13because I know both types. I know the type that is steady,
- 15:17that hardly ever gets insulted, works on deflecting these
- 15:20insults, and I know that he's in a very blessed place.
- 15:24I know another type who shouldn't be very blessed, who
- 15:27is very gifted and yet everything coming within 10 mile
- 15:31radius is seen as a dart at him and his life.
- 15:35He's like up and down and up and down and there's no reason for
- 15:38it at all. Most blessed person I know one
- 15:40of the most blessed people I know.
- 15:41He doesn't know that because he's so insulted.
- 15:43Chill out, get some confidence, realize the real realize what
- 15:48you sing and lower your antenna and your life will be beautiful.
- 15:51That's the idea right That be be a bow would say even after I was
- 15:58enough I realized I'm not as enough as other rabbits.
- 16:01So we see many examples of rabbits.
- 16:02Read this last example and it's like, and first of all, before
- 16:05we go forward, do we absorb this point?
- 16:08Do you absorb the relevance of this point?
- 16:10I'm pretty much guaranteeing you it's the strongest point when it
- 16:15comes to coexisting with other people.
- 16:17Is this lower your level of sensitivity from their comments?
- 16:22You know what's funny is that I can see how people that the
- 16:26sensitive ones that have their own head is raised high.
- 16:30I can see how they might look at someone like we're describing
- 16:35and think in their minds. So they're out of touch, they're
- 16:38insensitive and they are not in touch with their feelings
- 16:42because look, they're like, oh, you're all the all to them and
- 16:46they're not and they're not in touch and, and and you know,
- 16:49it's good. It's another.
- 16:50Viewpoint you're right. Should men have been created?
- 16:52Are they? Evil debating is great.
- 16:54So there is a negative of people are you know you.
- 16:58Can't. You're a negative of people.
- 16:59I'm not giving you you're right or not.
- 17:01You're right clear. I'm not trying to tell you every
- 17:03person is great. Not the point.
- 17:04You're right about that. I'm not trying to tell you go
- 17:06into business with every person because they're all great, Sure.
- 17:09Or let your child marry every person.
- 17:11Trust me, I'm as wary as where he gets.
- 17:13But in the basic conversation, in the basic things that we talk
- 17:18about by a Shabbat table, a holiday table about to get
- 17:20together and all these things, and there's going to be one
- 17:23person by the said that who's going to come?
- 17:25Most hopefully not, but a lot of times there is, you know, they
- 17:28didn't let my child say my Shunna and he stood out and say
- 17:31my Shunna and they jump to the next kid.
- 17:33They always overshoot my kid. Maybe you're right.
- 17:37Maybe they're insecure about the kid.
- 17:38Maybe they kid they they don't have any money.
- 17:40Maybe your kid is just gifted and they can't handle it.
- 17:44Whatever it may be, play it out and you can get there in 2
- 17:47minutes. Is it hurtful?
- 17:49Sure. Was I not happy when my wife
- 17:51called me up with that comment yesterday?
- 17:53Alright, sure she said the most listen to this.
- 17:55You can get a load of this. She said.
- 17:56They call the shoe, and she's like, I shouldn't be calling you
- 18:01with this because he's going to get you a man.
- 18:03She'll say, but they call the shoe.
- 18:06That organization's building. I said, wow, OK, I learned this.
- 18:11I can't get a man. Right.
- 18:13But the point is this is the nature of the business.
- 18:15And so and so is the rabbi. I said, really?
- 18:17So and so is the rabbi. Yeah, That's what all the girls
- 18:19say. So wow, that's great.
- 18:21But you know, so but you got to deal with it, but you got to get
- 18:25past one. It's not the girls fault, right?
- 18:27It's not the girls fault. It's not anything fine.
- 18:31Does it make someone feel small? Does it make my wife, she's
- 18:34working with these girls and she can at least have at least some
- 18:37degree of the of the, you know, good feeling and she's married
- 18:41to someone at least zero. So it makes her feel small.
- 18:44Sure, they got to get past that. What you want them to look at
- 18:46you and say, wait, what does that do for you?
- 18:49On and on and on, telling you about this by the Shabbat meals,
- 18:53by the holiday meals, by the family get togethers, by the
- 18:55weddings. You go to a wedding, you see how
- 18:58I brought somebody or you see someone say hello and they will
- 19:02cry upon you. Have that happened to you?
- 19:04It happens to me every time. All right, I I'll give you
- 19:07another example. Not that I'm very insecure.
- 19:10I was by wrist other day and someone comes over.
- 19:13I thought last night, it's our memory.
- 19:15Someone goes over to I'm staying next to my brother, one of my
- 19:18brothers and not, you know, such a famous one.
- 19:20And someone goes over and says, you know, with the whole thing,
- 19:24right, Hi, Rabbi and him, right? Reach out to him and they go hi,
- 19:31Rabbi, to me like, you know, to back.
- 19:34And they went. So again, if you're sensitive,
- 19:36you're insulted. They're like, you know, keep it
- 19:39when if you're, you know, you develop a degree of strength,
- 19:42you say, you know, it's great. What do I care?
- 19:44What does it make a difference to me that that person needed a
- 19:47loud high and this person gets a, a par of high doesn't matter,
- 19:51doesn't mean anything. Does it make a difference?
- 19:54And over time, you develop enough confidence to get
- 19:58strength. People like to think those who
- 20:00don't get insulted don't have emotions.
- 20:03No, it's not something like that.
- 20:05Naturally true, but there are others.
- 20:08Who simply has the strength to see the truth and they get out
- 20:12of the strength to see what's really going on.
- 20:14I found out recently of a few people who carry themselves as
- 20:19if they owned the world. And I found out some details in
- 20:22their lives. And they owe nothing to get the
- 20:25world. They owe nothing, Right?
- 20:27Yeah. They still kind of like to own
- 20:28the world. And.
