- 1:04Speaker 2: the Kraken setting up here for their first matchup of
- 1:07Speaker 2: the season against Winnipeg. Special teams could play a big
- 1:10Speaker 2: role in this game this evening. That plus a look
- 1:13Speaker 2: at the goaltending picture, the NHL debut of Berkeley Catton,
- 1:17Speaker 2: and much more in our conversation with Ian Forness, who
- 1:21Speaker 2: joins us. Of course, you can see him on the
- 1:23Speaker 2: TV side host for the Krack and Hockey Network, also
- 1:27Speaker 2: heard one to three weekdays ninety three to three KJARFM.
- 1:31Speaker 2: We'll have the internest coming up. Plus an exclusive conversation
- 1:35Speaker 2: with Berkeley Catton, who picked up his first career NHL
- 1:38Speaker 2: point Monday night at Philadelphia and was certainly in the
- 1:42Speaker 2: mix despite a four to one Kraken loss to Washington.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Back on Tuesday, Ian Forness and Berkeley Catton joining us
- 1:50Speaker 2: in just a bits. Here's a rewind from Tuesday night.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Didn't begin on the brightest of notes, but the Krack
- 1:56Speaker 2: and making one push right at the finish line in
- 1:59Speaker 2: the highlights right.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Masoft control backed by Washington. Here's old fetch getting nearside.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Chickrien shoots, Chickrit scores power play goal Ford Jacob Chickrin
- 2:15Speaker 3: had the Caps sixten their lead to a field goal
- 2:19Speaker 3: three nothing eight. Schwartz back to the line fresh off
- 2:22Speaker 3: the bench and a shot from Myers turned aside. Rebound
- 2:25Speaker 3: scoress Jana Schwartz from the near circle beats Logan Thompson
- 2:35Speaker 3: and the Kraken get their first goal in the game,
- 2:38Speaker 3: three to one, sixteen to ten to play here in
- 2:41Speaker 3: this third.
- 2:42Speaker 4: What it was Jens Schwartz from behind the Capitol's net
- 2:45Speaker 4: that dug that puck out and recognized that the Cracking
- 2:47Speaker 4: were on a change. It was Ben Myers coming from
- 2:50Speaker 4: the bench that was coming back to the offensive zone.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Schwartz put it back up to the blue line. Ben
- 2:55Speaker 4: picked it up, got a big shot which ford Logan
- 2:58Speaker 4: Thompson to give up a big rebound rebound went right
- 3:01Speaker 4: to Schortz. This game's three to one.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Nows rims it around the boards.
- 3:05Speaker 3: I want to put back door the net.
- 3:07Speaker 5: Every shoots off the polls.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Holly caught Tompson leaning again Jordan Everly so close to
- 3:14Speaker 3: the second goal of the game for Seattle.
- 3:17Speaker 4: And it was a feed from Berkeley Cotton who had
- 3:18Speaker 4: picked that puck up under the corner, cut to the
- 3:20Speaker 4: front of the net and saw Everly on the far
- 3:22Speaker 4: side that was a top him.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Every Tippenier shot turn aside rebound out of the race
- 3:27Speaker 3: of Yanny Knomany fanned on it all of three on
- 3:30Speaker 3: one short handed Wilson fair vari.
- 3:33Speaker 5: Back door PLI of the goal.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Has that'll be set out of play.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Connor mcmichoal was right there.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Capital's four cracking one your final score at Capitol One
- 3:42Speaker 2: Arena on Tuesday, with Matt Murray taking the loss in
- 3:45Speaker 2: his cracking debut thirty one saves on thirty four shots.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Didn't get much support in front of him early on
- 3:52Speaker 2: the cracking unfortunately, just managing nine shots in the first
- 3:55Speaker 2: two periods before they put together their third period push
- 3:59Speaker 2: and the only goal of the night to Jayden Schwartz.
- 4:02Speaker 2: The Capitals one for two on the power play of
- 4:04Speaker 2: the Kraken coming up empty into opportunities and they now
- 4:09Speaker 2: turn their attention here to win a pag Berkeley Catton
- 4:12Speaker 2: a part of this lineup and also press into duty
- 4:15Speaker 2: because the Krack and have been going through health issues
- 4:18Speaker 2: up and down their lineup. Among those missing upfront Jared McCann,
- 4:23Speaker 2: Mason march, Mint, Freddie Gidreau and Compocaco due to injuries,
- 4:27Speaker 2: which has pressed Catton into duty and for all intents
- 4:31Speaker 2: and purposes, didn't look too much out of place in
- 4:34Speaker 2: the game at Washington, where he got increased ice time
- 4:37Speaker 2: in period three despite coming up scoreless, but also factoring
- 4:41Speaker 2: in on several scoring opportunities. Catton that evening, finishing with
- 4:45Speaker 2: eighteen minutes of ice time around two shots on net,
- 4:48Speaker 2: one hit, and one takeaway. Before our conversation with Ian Forness,
- 4:53Speaker 2: we cut up with Berkeley Catton in this exclusive to
- 4:56Speaker 2: the Global Credit Union Kraken Audio Network, discussing more on
- 5:00Speaker 2: his upbringing and adjustments to living by himself. Now, what
- 5:04Speaker 2: did mom and dad mean to you with your growth
- 5:07Speaker 2: as a hockey player beginning when you were young?
- 5:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I think it's pretty much everything. I mean, wouldn't
- 5:12Speaker 6: be here without them. That's a cliche saying, but it's true.
- 5:15Speaker 6: And you know, I remember my dad building me a
- 5:17Speaker 6: backyard drink when I was like.
- 5:18Speaker 5: Two years old, before I could even really skate.
- 5:20Speaker 6: So you know, he, you know, he wanted me to
- 5:22Speaker 6: play hockey, and luckily I fell in love with it,
- 5:24Speaker 6: and you know, we both have such a passion for it,
- 5:25Speaker 6: and you know, it's pretty cool that we've come to this.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Now.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Did you have flood lights up there to skate at night?
- 5:30Speaker 2: Or was this more during the Dayah, No.
- 5:31Speaker 6: There was flood lights. I'm sure the neighbors got mad.
- 5:34Speaker 6: There was lights beaming through the windows and I was
- 5:36Speaker 6: out there all night. But yeah, that we had. We
- 5:37Speaker 6: had a great setup.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Actually, how late were you playing hockey till? Usually day
- 5:41Speaker 2: by day.
- 5:42Speaker 6: I mean in Canada and the winters, and you don't
- 5:44Speaker 6: have a game that night, it's like just go with
- 5:46Speaker 6: your buddies and you'd be out there till ten, ten
- 5:48Speaker 6: thirty and then yeah, I.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Did that lots as a kid, and they pull you
- 5:52Speaker 2: in and say it's homework time or it's bedtime, right exactly.
- 5:55Speaker 2: First time living away from home for you correct.
- 5:57Speaker 5: First time being by myself.
- 5:58Speaker 6: Yeah, so that's it's been pretty pretty interesting.
- 6:01Speaker 2: What's the best meal that you would like to cook
- 6:03Speaker 2: once you get deeper and deeper into your pro career.
- 6:05Speaker 6: Chicken and rice is always a classic. I like, I
- 6:08Speaker 6: like getting on the barbecue. I like steaks and and
- 6:11Speaker 6: all that stuff, So I'm pretty good with that. But
- 6:13Speaker 6: anything with the barbecue good. Everything else in the actual kitchen,
- 6:16Speaker 6: I'm got to learn a lot.
- 6:17Speaker 2: How much, then, would you agree the secret to a
- 6:19Speaker 2: good steak is more of the seasoning or more of
- 6:22Speaker 2: how it's cooked temperature wise.
- 6:24Speaker 6: Honestly, I mean the steak itself is pretty important, how
- 6:27Speaker 6: good of a steak it is, and then after that,
- 6:29Speaker 6: I think it's the seasoning is a big, big part.
- 6:32Speaker 6: But I'd probably put that before you know, how you
- 6:34Speaker 6: cook it, probably in New York and Meeta Mayor and
- 6:37Speaker 6: put a little seasoning on it.
- 6:38Speaker 2: So the experience to go to Chandler Stevenson sous and
- 6:41Speaker 2: hang out with Ryan Winterton as well, but get a
- 6:43Speaker 2: nice home cook meal, how'd you enjoy it?
- 6:46Speaker 5: Yeah? That was great.
- 6:46Speaker 6: I think it's just you know, different pace of things
- 6:49Speaker 6: to kind of just go and chill out and be
- 6:51Speaker 6: around a family and you know, get a great meal.
- 6:55Speaker 6: You know Chandler and his wife, so nice of him
- 6:57Speaker 6: to bring bring us over there, and you know, there
- 6:59Speaker 6: was lots of fun to kind of hang out and
- 7:00Speaker 6: just talk and hang out with the kids.
- 7:02Speaker 5: So really fun night.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I heard poor tender lee was on the menu. I
- 7:05Speaker 2: heard chicken was on the menu. What else?
- 7:07Speaker 5: There was corn rice, salad, some garlic bread.
- 7:12Speaker 6: It was unbelievable. That was probably my highlight of that.
- 7:16Speaker 6: But no, it was awesome, really good meal.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Now, people who don't follow the WHL usually wonder what
- 7:22Speaker 2: the lifestyle is like when you move away from home
- 7:25Speaker 2: at first, But how important were your bill of parents
- 7:27Speaker 2: to you? Living in Spokane huge.
- 7:29Speaker 5: I was just with billets moving away and stuff.
- 7:32Speaker 6: I had two or three billets, so I got to
- 7:35Speaker 6: experience different households and whatnot. But all of them were
- 7:39Speaker 6: great and got to, you know, experience that and they helped.
- 7:44Speaker 5: I was very lucky. All my billets kind of helped me,
- 7:46Speaker 5: you know, with the day to day stuff, cooking.
- 7:48Speaker 6: Great meals and whatnot, so you know, made my life
- 7:50Speaker 6: pretty easy, to be honest.
- 7:51Speaker 2: What's the one thing you can't live without in the fridge?
- 7:54Speaker 5: Peanut butter.
- 7:55Speaker 6: I know it's on the fridge, but peanut butters might
- 7:57Speaker 6: go to It's like, if I have to make a meal,
- 7:59Speaker 6: it's like peanut butter toast.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Usually that's my favorite.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Calories don't count for one day. What's your go to
- 8:04Speaker 2: cheat meal?
- 8:05Speaker 6: Probably some some ribs, barbecue ribs, mashed potato, you know,
- 8:11Speaker 6: some sort of veggie.
- 8:12Speaker 5: I don't I know it's calories on count, but some.
- 8:14Speaker 6: Carrots or whatever, fried carrots fried or not fried, sorry,
- 8:18Speaker 6: cooked carrots or cooked being something like that.
- 8:20Speaker 5: So just a healthy meal, but I think ribs are
- 8:22Speaker 5: my favorite.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Well, you know, as far as fried food. If they
- 8:24Speaker 2: can fry butter at the fair, they can fry carrots also, right.
- 8:28Speaker 5: Want to cut down up but no, yeah, yeah.
- 8:31Speaker 2: What's the craziest road trip that you took in the whl.
- 8:35Speaker 5: Lots?
- 8:35Speaker 6: I mean even from my hometown in Saskatoon. From Spokane
- 8:39Speaker 6: and Sasatoon would be thirteen hours and then I remember
- 8:43Speaker 6: when you we went to Winnipeg, which add on another
- 8:45Speaker 6: eight or nine hours to that. And then I think
- 8:47Speaker 6: one year, you know, in playoffs we played Prince George,
- 8:50Speaker 6: So I mean back and forth with Prince George is
- 8:53Speaker 6: thirteen hours.
- 8:53Speaker 5: And they're you know, in our division or whatever. So
- 8:57Speaker 5: that was that was a lot.
- 8:58Speaker 2: What's the secret then to it being well on the bus?
- 9:02Speaker 6: I think I've actually seen guys get little dog beds
- 9:05Speaker 6: and you know, put them around there, and that's one
- 9:08Speaker 6: I've tried that. It's okay. I like to just get
- 9:10Speaker 6: a couple of pillows and you know, kick my feet
- 9:13Speaker 6: up on the other on the other seat. So that's
- 9:14Speaker 6: the way I always kind of did it.
- 9:15Speaker 2: It's a lot nicer when you get older to move
- 9:17Speaker 2: to the back of the bus, right, Yeah, exactly What
- 9:19Speaker 2: did last year mean to you from a personal growth standpoint?
- 9:23Speaker 6: Uh? It was it was great. You know, after getting drafted,
- 9:26Speaker 6: it's that's a big year. And I think in your
- 9:28Speaker 6: draft year there's a lot of you know, pressure and stuff.
- 9:30Speaker 6: So to kind of get relieved to that and keep
- 9:33Speaker 6: it in contact with Seattle throughout the year was great.
- 9:35Speaker 6: And you know, built a lot and was on a
- 9:37Speaker 6: workout program and on an eating program, and you know,
- 9:39Speaker 6: I think built a lot last year.
- 9:41Speaker 2: How harder was it do you think to learn how
- 9:43Speaker 2: to create scoring opportunities being that you were very much
- 9:47Speaker 2: a well known commodity for a player at your position
- 9:50Speaker 2: last season.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Yeah, that's always tough.
- 9:53Speaker 6: I mean getting a first line matchups and stuff, so
- 9:56Speaker 6: you have to find your way around that. And then
- 9:58Speaker 6: I think, uh, it helps getting you know, a guy
- 10:01Speaker 6: like Andrew Crystal, so there's kind of two of us
- 10:03Speaker 6: so and then shayev An Olm two at fifty goals,
- 10:06Speaker 6: so there's that we uh we had a really good
- 10:08Speaker 6: line and we're all threats.
- 10:09Speaker 5: So that was a lot of fun.
- 10:10Speaker 2: How much do you believe that your game this year
- 10:12Speaker 2: depends on the physical nature versus the skilled nature.
- 10:16Speaker 6: Yeah, I think obviously there's lots of stuff physically going
- 10:20Speaker 6: into corners and making plays on the wall.
- 10:23Speaker 5: There's gonna be physical. But you know, I think put
- 10:25Speaker 5: in a little bit of weight has helped me.
- 10:27Speaker 6: But again, I think my smarts can can get me
- 10:30Speaker 6: out of those situations and allow me to have success. So,
- 10:33Speaker 6: you know, I think smarts and skill, if if you properly,
- 10:36Speaker 6: can can go a long way.
- 10:37Speaker 2: So what defines the ideal year for you?
- 10:40Speaker 6: I mean, sticking around here obviously is the main goal. Uh,
- 10:44Speaker 6: you know, I think learning a lot. There's so many
- 10:46Speaker 6: veterans in that room and guys to learn from, So
- 10:49Speaker 6: learning a lot, and you know, when I do get
- 10:51Speaker 6: my chance to kind of run with it, That's the
- 10:53Speaker 6: way I look at it.
- 10:53Speaker 2: All Right, Time to dive into matters here for the
- 10:55Speaker 2: final game of the road trip. It's been a while
- 10:58Speaker 2: since this team has played home games, but we are
- 11:01Speaker 2: on the CUSP. They are back home this Saturday. Before
- 11:05Speaker 2: that Crack and Winnipeg Jets five pm Pacific time, and
- 11:08Speaker 2: the guy at the host desk for the KRACK and
- 11:11Speaker 2: Hockey Network joins us now in the mayor of Maple Valley.
- 11:14Speaker 2: That's Ian forness one to three week days ninety three
- 11:17Speaker 2: three KJRFM, mayor how are you?
- 11:20Speaker 7: I'm good, Mikey, how are you?
- 11:21Speaker 2: I'm hanging in there. I'm hanging in there. I think
- 11:24Speaker 2: from this last week and a lot of us are
- 11:27Speaker 2: kind of running through the whole gamut of Mariner's emotions
- 11:31Speaker 2: right now. And I'll tell you what I mean, a
- 11:34Speaker 2: crack and run to end this road trip with the
- 11:36Speaker 2: win and then come back home strong start. That would
- 11:38Speaker 2: be a pretty nice antidote here for what many of
- 11:41Speaker 2: us experienced earlier this week.
- 11:44Speaker 7: Yeah, it would be nice. I mean probably a tall path,
- 11:48Speaker 7: depending on you know, who comes back into lineup. I mean,
- 11:51Speaker 7: what they've got going on right now, lineup wise, is
- 11:54Speaker 7: is a little bit scary. But you know, I think
- 11:57Speaker 7: what we've seen and as people try to play catch
- 11:59Speaker 7: up with the backing after the manner of games and
- 12:02Speaker 7: playoffs and all the focus it goes into the Major
- 12:04Speaker 7: League Baseball playoffs with in his town, you know, miss
- 12:07Speaker 7: it along the way. It's a good hockey team, and
- 12:10Speaker 7: it's a better hockey team the last couple of years.
- 12:12Speaker 7: It's a better coach team, and you know, they got
- 12:14Speaker 7: a lot going on. But with all the injuries, you know,
- 12:18Speaker 7: Brandon Montour, Riker Evans, I mean, they're just they're beat
- 12:21Speaker 7: up right now. It's a tall task to prot of
- 12:24Speaker 7: compete with the team that won the President's Trump I
- 12:26Speaker 7: told you last year.
- 12:27Speaker 2: See here's where I look at what two losses in
- 12:31Speaker 2: a row make as far as a difference. And granted
- 12:34Speaker 2: the game wasn't clean at Philadelphia, it wasn't clean from
- 12:38Speaker 2: the eye test at Washington, but the matter of fact
- 12:41Speaker 2: is this when you're missing Compocaco, Riker Evans, Mason Marchmant,
- 12:47Speaker 2: Freddie Goodrow, mister jack of all trades in this lineup.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Jared McCann's out Brandon Montour on Lee for a family matter.
- 12:55Speaker 2: We hope that he's back at the right time. But
- 12:57Speaker 2: that's a significant chunk of your roster that is missing
- 13:01Speaker 2: and can play a big contribution right here. So when
- 13:04Speaker 2: you look at this here from the lens of two
- 13:06Speaker 2: straight losses, Lane Lambert said, no excuses, but but I
- 13:10Speaker 2: mean it's pretty apparent. And I took a run on
- 13:11Speaker 2: Twitter and took a look at this and with that
- 13:14Speaker 2: responses after the game Tuesday against the Capitals, where there
- 13:17Speaker 2: really is a lot of the mission that the only
- 13:20Speaker 2: thing that this team needs to bounce back on Thursday
- 13:25Speaker 2: this evening against Winnipeg is health.
- 13:28Speaker 7: Well you forgot Jerem mccamp.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Jerem mca yes, yeah.
- 13:32Speaker 7: Right, I mean, because there's so many guys out right now,
- 13:35Speaker 7: and so yeah, it's hard. I mean, I think when
- 13:37Speaker 7: you look at the lineup and the way it's structured
- 13:39Speaker 7: right now, you know you've got your number one line
- 13:42Speaker 7: includes a kid that's nineteen years old playing two NHL
- 13:45Speaker 7: games in Berkeley cast. Uh, you know your number two line,
- 13:49Speaker 7: you know had a guy made some marchmen on it.
- 13:51Speaker 7: No longer there, you know, out for whatever day to day.
- 13:55Speaker 7: You know, Janny Newman is scoring goals, is a nice pace,
- 13:59Speaker 7: but you know he he needs to help. He's not
- 14:01Speaker 7: a creator, he's a finisher. And then Brandon on tour,
- 14:05Speaker 7: you know, while with n's done a great buck mover
- 14:08Speaker 7: and so it's tough. I mean as far as plenty
- 14:12Speaker 7: of that somebody to day they're like, well, you know,
- 14:14Speaker 7: I mean other teams are missing guys. I said. This
- 14:18Speaker 7: team's built on depth, for sure, but at the same time,
- 14:23Speaker 7: you can't take high end depth out of your lineup
- 14:25Speaker 7: and expect to have the same results. So I think
- 14:28Speaker 7: what we've seen, you know, Philadelphia and Washington those two games,
- 14:33Speaker 7: the team was just they're just too shorthanded. And you know,
- 14:36Speaker 7: obviously back to back is tough. I mean that's been
- 14:39Speaker 7: a problem nowt for a couple of years. But I'll
- 14:42Speaker 7: tell you this, I love what Matt Murray did the
- 14:43Speaker 7: other night, and they're gonna need assuming Joey goes, you know,
- 14:47Speaker 7: tonight on Thursday against Winnipeg, I mean, they're gonna need
- 14:50Speaker 7: him to play at a high level because frankly, he
- 14:53Speaker 7: hasn't on this road trip. He is great at home,
- 14:56Speaker 7: he hasn't played well on the road and made him
- 14:58Speaker 7: to be really good. So a health and a better,
- 15:01Speaker 7: better goaltender, at least your number one guy have to
- 15:04Speaker 7: come to fruitions against the Jets.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Before I get to Joey and to the goaltending as well.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Berkeley Catton, what do we make out of his first
- 15:12Speaker 2: two games to begin his NHL career.
- 15:15Speaker 7: Well, I think you watch him and you see a
- 15:17Speaker 7: guy that fits in. You see a guy that doesn't
- 15:20Speaker 7: look out of place at the age of nineteen to
- 15:22Speaker 7: the NHL, and I'm not surprised by that. I know
- 15:25Speaker 7: some maybe listen, you know, whether it be Celebrainy or
- 15:31Speaker 7: Layne Hudson or you know, Connor Bedard, et cetera. There's
- 15:36Speaker 7: a lot of young guys to step in. I mean,
- 15:38Speaker 7: he wasn't drafted quite as high, you know, eighth overall,
- 15:42Speaker 7: but if you're watching the games, it's pretty simple to
- 15:45Speaker 7: see coronor badart fits in at age nineteen in the NHL,
- 15:49Speaker 7: there's no doubt about that, and it would be and
- 15:52Speaker 7: I dare say it would be worthless to send him
- 15:56Speaker 7: back then as Vulcan and the dub. I don't know
- 15:58Speaker 7: what will happen when guys get healthy, But you watch
- 16:01Speaker 7: him his creativity, I mean, I think you could make
- 16:04Speaker 7: an argument. And maybe some numbers sell many a different story,
- 16:07Speaker 7: but watching him on Tuesday in Washington, I think he
- 16:11Speaker 7: can make an argument. He was one of Seattle's best players.
- 16:15Speaker 2: And what did this tell us? Also ian from the
- 16:17Speaker 2: fact that who was the guy that was getting tried
- 16:20Speaker 2: to back out there over and over and over with
- 16:23Speaker 2: the crack and showing signs of life in their game,
- 16:25Speaker 2: trailing but showing signs of life. It was Berkeley Catton.
- 16:31Speaker 7: He creates he sees the ice he's got great vision.
- 16:35Speaker 7: You know, he had an opportunity. You know, in the
- 16:37Speaker 7: first two games, he had opportunity to score and he will.
- 16:40Speaker 7: That'll happen. But yeah, I mean, I think, you know,
- 16:44Speaker 7: this team needs creativity and the guys that can finish.
- 16:48Speaker 7: You know, McCann can finish, Newman can finish. Maddy needs
- 16:52Speaker 7: to finish at some point. But you know, it's wild.
- 16:56Speaker 7: I mean, I love the line. I love Veniers every
- 16:59Speaker 7: and and Catten together, I really do. And I know
- 17:02Speaker 7: when McCann comes back, they got to find a spot
- 17:04Speaker 7: for him. I like that line in the preseason. I
- 17:08Speaker 7: like that line, you know, the last couple of nights,
- 17:11Speaker 7: and we need jeremccamn back in this line if there's
- 17:14Speaker 7: no doubt about that, that's a no doubt about that.
- 17:16Speaker 7: But Berkeley Catton has some pretty good chemistry. I don't
- 17:21Speaker 7: know if you just keep Catten and been Hears together,
- 17:23Speaker 7: maybe you throw a Marchman on that line and move McCann,
- 17:27Speaker 7: which I mean I think right, I mean, I like
- 17:31Speaker 7: Maddie and Berkeley together. I don't know if I think
- 17:35Speaker 7: you can move on from Eberley and let him go
- 17:38Speaker 7: somewhere else. And I don't know I wouldn't mind seeing
- 17:41Speaker 7: twenty seven on that line. To be honest with you, Hell,
- 17:43Speaker 7: I mean that is never going to happen because I
- 17:45Speaker 7: can tell what Lane thinks right now if Yonna Newman,
- 17:48Speaker 7: but I wouldn't mind seeing thirty eight on that line. Yeah,
- 17:51Speaker 7: like a guy that can finish. If two guys are great,
- 17:53Speaker 7: the guy that can finish. I will say this with
- 17:56Speaker 7: Lane Lambert, I think it's safe to say, Mikey and
- 17:58Speaker 7: I think you degree they this is a coach is
- 18:02Speaker 7: not afraid to shake things up and what your resume
- 18:06Speaker 7: says and what you've done in the past, unless you're
- 18:08Speaker 7: Vince Don and Adam Larson and you're just gonna be
- 18:09Speaker 7: carried together forever an eternity like you. Let that happen.
- 18:13Speaker 7: He's got no problem with the guys around which I want.
- 18:15Speaker 7: I think that's good.
- 18:17Speaker 2: We saw at Philadelphia, sat a bit at Washington as well,
- 18:19Speaker 2: and we'll see what happens here for the lineup as
- 18:21Speaker 2: the crack and get set for the Winnipeg Jets. I
- 18:23Speaker 2: did want to get onto goaltending Ian and I think
- 18:26Speaker 2: you kind of opened this up a little bit here.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I would tend to agree maybe that it's going to
- 18:31Speaker 2: be Joey Decord's game. And at Philadelphia, first goal coughed
- 18:36Speaker 2: up puck, second goal beaten up high, third fourth goal
- 18:41Speaker 2: really so much not as fall Travis ConnectNY wide open
- 18:44Speaker 2: front of the net, and then a shot through traffic
- 18:46Speaker 2: which gets on through. And then the fifth goal, which
- 18:48Speaker 2: pretty much end of the night was a sharp bangled
- 18:51Speaker 2: bid from Owen Tippett that leaked on through. I mean,
- 18:54Speaker 2: goals that were just uncharacteristic of what Joey to coord
- 18:58Speaker 2: tends to let versus stop. His say percentage right now
- 19:03Speaker 2: is eight ninety. Philip grew Bauer is at eight nine seven.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Matt Murray only won game for a sample size here.
- 19:09Speaker 2: But if it's Joey to Cord, I would be led
- 19:12Speaker 2: to believe you've got one potentially fired up goaltender to
- 19:15Speaker 2: get ready here for Winnipeg.
- 19:17Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it's probably the Joey I I he's
- 19:20Speaker 7: just got to be better. Like let's just let's just say,
- 19:23Speaker 7: I mean, we can be nice and you know, no, man,
- 19:27Speaker 7: he's got to be better. Joey's the number one guy
- 19:29Speaker 7: Lane Lambert handed in that job. Didn't hand it, he
- 19:31Speaker 7: earned it. Like let's let's like he's earned it. But
- 19:35Speaker 7: you know when Lane says, you're the guy, and you were.
- 19:39Speaker 7: He was great those first two home games against Anaheim
- 19:42Speaker 7: in Vegas. They don't come out of there with four
- 19:44Speaker 7: points about Joey. But he hasn't been good on this trip.
- 19:47Speaker 7: He just hasn't. And uh for the last goal that
- 19:51Speaker 7: short side the leap through, that was a bad goal,
- 19:54Speaker 7: such a bad goal and.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Also let all the air out of the balloon as
- 19:59Speaker 2: far as any kind of come back effort that they
- 20:00Speaker 2: had built up.
- 20:01Speaker 7: Right right right, And I think, you know it's going
- 20:05Speaker 7: to happen during the course of the year, but you
- 20:08Speaker 7: know there's certain staves in the game you have to make.
- 20:10Speaker 7: I thought Edzo said it, well, you know in Washington,
- 20:13Speaker 7: you know, Murray was really good. The power play goal
- 20:16Speaker 7: is a bad goal that a glove on. It just happening.
- 20:19Speaker 7: And you know, this team is not built to where
- 20:22Speaker 7: they can afford to have goaltenders, you know, letting goals
- 20:26Speaker 7: that are that are not expected to go in. Murray
- 20:29Speaker 7: ended up being on the positive side of that, by
- 20:30Speaker 7: the way, on Tuesday, he was on the positive side
- 20:34Speaker 7: of the goal same about expected, So good for him.
- 20:37Speaker 7: I thought he looked really well. I thought, you know,
- 20:39Speaker 7: outside the one goal, I thought he looked calm. It
- 20:41Speaker 7: was really we talked about on TV Alison and Bretton.
- 20:44Speaker 7: I did that that he looked really very confident in there.
- 20:49Speaker 7: I thought. I thought Murray looked really good. And maybe
- 20:51Speaker 7: one of the bonuses of having three guys is you know,
- 20:54Speaker 7: if if somebody stumbles along the way, you're going to
- 20:57Speaker 7: have somebody that can that can step up and and
- 21:00Speaker 7: make the play. Let me just point out Joey made
- 21:02Speaker 7: a save in the final three seconds of the game
- 21:05Speaker 7: in Toronto that got them two points. Yes, I mean
- 21:07Speaker 7: you got that left pad down. That was an incredible shake.
- 21:10Speaker 7: But overall he just has to be better and he
- 21:13Speaker 7: will be better because he is better. But yeah, I didn't.
- 21:16Speaker 7: I haven't loved this game on the trip for the
- 21:17Speaker 7: most part.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Cracking. Part of me cracking. Are going to face a
- 21:22Speaker 2: Winnipeg team that still has plenty and I mean plenty
- 21:27Speaker 2: of an arsenal for their special teams and when you
- 21:30Speaker 2: look at power play points, Alex Eyah follow with three.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Jonathan taves Hey, who'd have thunk we call him a
- 21:36Speaker 2: Winnipeg Jet eventually for his career he's got three, Nino
- 21:40Speaker 2: Nita Ryder three, Kyle Connor three, Mark Schifley two points. Already,
- 21:46Speaker 2: this team tied for third best in the NHL, the
- 21:49Speaker 2: Kraken opposing that power play not too bad right now,
- 21:54Speaker 2: hovering just above middle of the pack. Penalty kill ian
- 21:57Speaker 2: they've taken their lumps so far. They're twenty ninth but
- 22:00Speaker 2: only coveny nineteen minor penalties. That's sixth lowis in the NHL.
- 22:05Speaker 2: So for a game like this, I mean it's pretty
- 22:08Speaker 2: obvious against Winnipeg, you have got to stay out of
- 22:10Speaker 2: the box.
- 22:11Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean cave And and Schiffley got the game
- 22:14Speaker 7: winner to get the two goals in the two one
- 22:15Speaker 7: win over over Calgary, right, you know night and but
- 22:20Speaker 7: that would give me hope saying, hey, they struggled against Calgary,
- 22:23Speaker 7: a team that's one and six this season, like they
- 22:25Speaker 7: they they struggled against the Flames. So the penalty kill
- 22:30Speaker 7: is weird. I would have thought that would have been
- 22:32Speaker 7: better under Layne Lambert. But I think it will get better.
- 22:35Speaker 7: And I think also and part of that's goaltending. Like
- 22:40Speaker 7: I think we can point to some power play goals
- 22:42Speaker 7: going in and I think you would expect your goaltender
- 22:44Speaker 7: to say, whoever that goaltender is, There's been three of them,
- 22:47Speaker 7: But the power play is really encouraging. Chris Taylor's done
- 22:50Speaker 7: a terrific job. And I fires fill Chris Utah, Grisily
- 22:53Speaker 7: and and you know worked with him down there in
- 22:56Speaker 7: the early two thousands. But but Chris is a Chris.
- 22:59Speaker 7: Chris is obviously changed the power play like he's the
- 23:03Speaker 7: movement on it. We've kind of shown and illustrated on
- 23:07Speaker 7: TV a lot. Ali is in a great job with
- 23:09Speaker 7: this showing the movement on the power play. It's a
- 23:12Speaker 7: fluid movement that's always going on. It's not stagnant, and
- 23:16Speaker 7: I think we're seeing that payoff. So I love the
- 23:18Speaker 7: power play. Kinty'll get better. Listen again, I've said it before,
- 23:24Speaker 7: Tall taps the beat Winnipeg. In Winnipeg period end the story.
- 23:29Speaker 7: You can sneak out of the peg with a point
- 23:32Speaker 7: that would be huge coming home and still be above
- 23:35Speaker 7: five hundred. I think that would be awesome. But hey,
- 23:38Speaker 7: worst case scenario, come home three, three and two, and
- 23:40Speaker 7: you're okay with that with that early schedule.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Because we know the great as a fundamental of this team,
- 23:45Speaker 2: we know that there's a caality is a fundamental of
- 23:47Speaker 2: this team. But again, it's going to come down to goaltending.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I mean, if they show up consistently, that's going to
- 23:54Speaker 2: be the big difference here. So we'll see how that
- 23:57Speaker 2: shakes out for Winnipeg coming up this seven. Oh by
- 24:00Speaker 2: the way, Ian, how is Portland?
- 24:02Speaker 7: Portland was great? Uh yeah, shout out to Portland. They
- 24:06Speaker 7: stick caps all the way around. Uh big, big thank
- 24:09Speaker 7: you to the winter Hawks, the Junior one Hawks, everyone
- 24:13Speaker 7: down there. We had a great time. We've got we've
- 24:16Speaker 7: got another at least one more trip coming up to
- 24:18Speaker 7: a Western Hockey League city that may or may not
- 24:20Speaker 7: be located in the Inland Empire and Spokane. But uh
- 24:25Speaker 7: yeah it was. It was really fun. We had a
- 24:27Speaker 7: great time down there. Brett and I went down and
- 24:29Speaker 7: you know, the crack and street hockey team and they're
- 24:32Speaker 7: not street hockey three team plus uh some others were
- 24:36Speaker 7: down there, but we was there all week and just
- 24:38Speaker 7: some clinics. It was really awesome. Wetland shown out. We
- 24:40Speaker 7: had a great time and I you know, big thanks
- 24:43Speaker 7: to Mike Johnson too, the from the winter Hawks. He
- 24:46Speaker 7: was he was there for us and it was really fun.
- 24:49Speaker 7: I'm glad we got down there. Uh you know, Rose City,
- 24:52Speaker 7: Rip City is is definitely cracking down and we had
- 24:55Speaker 7: a ton of fune. I can't wait to get back.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that was cool seeing Jerseys right behind you guys
- 24:59Speaker 2: for setting on the TV side that night. Portland is
- 25:02Speaker 2: certainly a part of us here as far as kracking
- 25:04Speaker 2: country one to four A Philliates by the way in
- 25:07Speaker 2: Oregon on the Global Credit Union Kraken Audio Network shout
- 25:11Speaker 2: out to them, Ian looking forward to my mayor, my man,
- 25:14Speaker 2: thank you very much, have a good show, Mikey.
- 25:18Speaker 7: Thank you. I'll see you on Saturday night at Climb
- 25:20Speaker 7: and played Gerena.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Finally, all right, Mayor, great talking with you. Ian for
- 25:23Speaker 2: Neesh joining us here as we get you set for
- 25:25Speaker 2: the Kraken and the Winnipeg Jets here for this evening.
- 25:28Speaker 2: It's their first match up of the season, with the
- 25:30Speaker 2: Kraken trying to salvage a road tripper. If they win,
- 25:34Speaker 2: can finish their mark at two to two and two,
- 25:37Speaker 2: and if they can get a win against Winnipeg in
- 25:40Speaker 2: a tough place to play, it would certainly get them
- 25:43Speaker 2: some fuel coming back home to jump right back into
- 25:46Speaker 2: this next home stand, a five game variety opening up
- 25:49Speaker 2: this Saturday. Winnipeg's a pretty tough place to play for
- 25:52Speaker 2: the Kraken. They're aiming for their third win all time
- 25:55Speaker 2: against Winnipeg, and they have gone winless in five of
- 25:58Speaker 2: six trips there last season, the Jets sweeping all three
- 26:02Speaker 2: games against the Kraken, and kracking looking for their first
- 26:05Speaker 2: win against Winnipeg since March fifth of twenty twenty four,
- 26:09Speaker 2: a four to three victory at Winnipeg. Mark Shiflee without
- 26:13Speaker 2: question the guy to stop on Winnipeg. He's writing a
- 26:16Speaker 2: red hot fine game goal scoring streak. We'll see if
- 26:19Speaker 2: Jordan Ebery can also be a factory. He tends to
- 26:21Speaker 2: save some of his best games against Winnipeg. He leads
- 26:24Speaker 2: a cracking right now head to head scoring with twenty
- 26:27Speaker 2: points in twenty nine games. And here's a fun did
- 26:30Speaker 2: you know his first game against this chess franchise came
- 26:33Speaker 2: back in February twenty eleven when the Jets were back
- 26:37Speaker 2: then known as the Atlanta Thrashers. Well, the Kraken trying
- 26:41Speaker 2: to get after it this evening and end the road
- 26:43Speaker 2: trip with the victory, and they take on the Jets
- 26:45Speaker 2: once again five pm Pacific time in Winnipeg. Everett, Now
- 26:49Speaker 2: have the call. I will join you for thirty pm
- 26:52Speaker 2: for your pregame show served up by Frostbrewed Corps Light
- 26:56Speaker 2: Choose Chill will be there live by the way at

- 27:09Speaker 2: you to Ian Forness and to Berkeley Katon for joining
- 27:12Speaker 2: us at for Kracken this morning. I'm Mike Benton. Have
- 27:15Speaker 2: a happy Thursday.
