- 0:00Speaker 1: Good morning, everybody.
- 0:02Speaker 2: I am Todd Lynch. I'm in hosting for Lee Elsie today.
- 0:06Speaker 2: And it's going to be a long morning. I got
- 0:09Speaker 2: a six.
- 0:10Speaker 1: To nine shift today.
- 0:11Speaker 2: So I hope the people that are out there upset
- 0:14Speaker 2: about pensions, I hope I get overtime today or some compensation.
- 0:19Speaker 2: But it is 94.9 news now.
- 0:23Speaker 1: And help me out. I'll give you the phone number
- 0:26Speaker 1: on before and after each break. 860- 877-464-9490.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Give me a call. Let me know what you think.
- 0:36Speaker 2: We're going to start out with some sad news. And unfortunately,
- 0:41Speaker 2: I have three of them. But all these are going
- 0:47Speaker 2: to be condolences to their family and friends because we
- 0:50Speaker 2: lost three good people. First is Joe DiMaggio. Joe was
- 0:55Speaker 2: a longtime New London firefighter. a great man, a gentleman,
- 1:02Speaker 2: also worked at Malia Funeral Home, and Joe was just
- 1:06Speaker 2: a good person, always with a smile and always with
- 1:08Speaker 2: a joke when you saw him.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Second is.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Someone in the athletic world that when I was a
- 1:17Speaker 2: younger boy playing youth sports, mainly baseball, I played with
- 1:22Speaker 2: Norman Tanucci, who passed away, and an incredible baseball player.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I always thought You know, we're in minor league or
- 1:30Speaker 2: little league, and he should have been playing in Babe
- 1:33Speaker 2: Ruth or in high school, but Norman passed away. So, again,
- 1:38Speaker 2: to his wife and kids, same age as myself and Lee,
- 1:42Speaker 2: so it kind of shocks you a little bit when
- 1:45Speaker 2: someone your age goes that young, especially I know his brothers,
- 1:50Speaker 2: Michael and Eric, well, so thoughts to the family. And last,
- 1:55Speaker 2: we often talk about the day paper. and journalists and
- 2:00Speaker 2: some of the things I read are about people from
- 2:03Speaker 2: the paper and we lost Morgan McGinley who was a
- 2:06Speaker 2: long time day journalist and Morgan was an old school
- 2:12Speaker 2: guy again a.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Friend of mine and my family's and when I mean.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Old school thorough he just didn't write an article by
- 2:22Speaker 2: the seat of his pants he did some research interviewed
- 2:26Speaker 2: people You know, it took weeks and weeks.
- 2:29Speaker 1: To write one article.
- 2:30Speaker 2: So my thoughts, again, are to Morgan.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And his family and the staff at the day who
- 2:37Speaker 1: knew him.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Also, a good friend of mine went through some medical things.
- 2:44Speaker 1: He's on the mend.
- 2:45Speaker 2: But Dave Geyer, who was a longtime ledger police sergeant
- 2:52Speaker 2: and a good friend of mine, as you as reliable
- 2:57Speaker 2: as a colleague as you can get in the law
- 2:59Speaker 2: enforcement field. Dave is just, again, a true gentleman and
- 3:06Speaker 2: a true professional in the law enforcement field. Retired now,
- 3:09Speaker 2: so I wish Dave a healthy recovery. And with that,
- 3:14Speaker 2: I want to start off on a little different subject
- 3:17Speaker 2: from where I normally go. So people will think I'm,
- 3:20Speaker 2: it's early in the morning, 6 o'clock, I'm maybe not right, but.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I want to talk about assisted suicide.
- 3:28Speaker 2: And it's a different topic, but now in the age
- 3:31Speaker 2: group we're at, we're starting to see, unfortunately, your friends
- 3:37Speaker 2: get sick and pass away. And what I want to
- 3:42Speaker 2: just express about that is, and again, it's hit me
- 3:45Speaker 2: hard the last couple of years. I've lost some good friends,
- 3:49Speaker 2: mainly to the horrible word of cancer. And I'm not
- 3:53Speaker 2: speaking for any of them or their families. I want
- 3:56Speaker 2: to be very clear about that. I'm speaking for myself.
- 3:59Speaker 2: But seeing the awful deterioration of what that disease does
- 4:07Speaker 2: to you at the end. Again, speaking for myself, where
- 4:12Speaker 2: there's a point where you know there's nothing else coming
- 4:17Speaker 2: but the end. You really can't take care of yourself
- 4:21Speaker 2: anymore anymore. The strain on your family must be immense.
- 4:26Speaker 2: The pain must be awful. And I'm just speaking for
- 4:32Speaker 2: myself to say I don't know what the problem would
- 4:38Speaker 2: be if you choose to, to say I want to
- 4:42Speaker 2: get my things in line and I want to say
- 4:48Speaker 2: goodbye to my family and friends and I want to
- 4:52Speaker 2: end it. peacefully before it gets awful, not only on
- 4:59Speaker 2: me but on them. And it may seem selfish to
- 5:02Speaker 2: some people, but to me, if I had that opportunity,
- 5:09Speaker 2: God willing, I won't, but it would be the choice
- 5:13Speaker 2: I would make. And I think for political leadership, and
- 5:17Speaker 2: we're going to get into politics later on, But for
- 5:21Speaker 2: political leadership to make that choice, and I want to
- 5:24Speaker 2: be clear, I'm not talking about a 25-year-old kid whose
- 5:28Speaker 2: girlfriend broke up with him.
- 5:30Speaker 1: That's not what I'm talking about.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I'm talking about consultation between you and your physician where
- 5:37Speaker 2: you know you've done all you can. And I'm sure
- 5:40Speaker 2: most of the listeners who are up now have gone
- 5:44Speaker 2: through it or know somebody that's gone through it. And
- 5:47Speaker 2: there's nothing more that you can do.
- 5:50Speaker 1: And rather than, again, have.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Your family see you suffer and, you know, you're no
- 5:54Speaker 2: longer awake, I'd rather take the choice to say my
- 5:59Speaker 2: goodbyes when I still can and, you know, go about
- 6:04Speaker 2: the next stage of life and make that decision. And
- 6:09Speaker 2: I'm going to date myself here, but I was thinking
- 6:13Speaker 2: of talking about this before. I spoke about it with Lee.
- 6:16Speaker 2: And I was an old Barney Miller fan, the old
- 6:18Speaker 2: show Barney Miller. And if they remember his wife, Liz,
- 6:23Speaker 2: it was just in the paper yesterday in New York,
- 6:25Speaker 2: which it must be legal, took the route of assisted
- 6:31Speaker 2: suicide and had horrible medical issues. And, you know, the
- 6:40Speaker 2: end was near and she wanted to go before It
- 6:43Speaker 2: got horrible on her family and made that decision. Now
- 6:48Speaker 2: that I brightened up your morning a little bit, starting
- 6:51Speaker 2: off on that, it was just a different angle of
- 6:57Speaker 2: something that I don't normally talk about, but that's where
- 7:00Speaker 2: I'm going to start off.
- 7:02Speaker 1: We're going to transition a little bit.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Who in their right mind thinks it's all right for
- 7:10Speaker 2: a transgender athlete to play against girls in sports. So
- 7:17Speaker 2: the way I look at this, and people are arguing
- 7:21Speaker 2: for this, if you're a dude, you've got to play
- 7:27Speaker 2: in dude sports. You can't say, you know, I feel
- 7:31Speaker 2: like a girl today, or I'm, you know, transing out
- 7:33Speaker 2: of what I was, and now I want to be
- 7:37Speaker 2: on the girls' softball team instead of the baseball team.
- 7:41Speaker 1: It makes no sense. sense for me at all.
- 7:45Speaker 2: And for the people that, I guess, think it's okay,
- 7:51Speaker 2: you've got the state tournaments and things like that, and you.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Want a guy playing against girls.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Now, if you're transing or doing whatever, okay, you're still
- 8:05Speaker 2: a guy, go play on the baseball team or the
- 8:07Speaker 2: football team.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I don't have any problem with that. But you're still...
- 8:12Speaker 1: A guy.
- 8:13Speaker 2: And for the people that are, like, arguing this, it's
- 8:19Speaker 2: shocking to me. And it's led by, somewhat, players in
- 8:25Speaker 2: the WNBA. And, you know, while I don't care what
- 8:31Speaker 2: their sexual orientation is, they're all ladies. And they're the
- 8:38Speaker 2: champions of what? Playing against guys? I don't understand it.
- 8:45Speaker 2: In crossing that subject a little bit, there's nothing that
- 8:52Speaker 2: bothers me more when we're in the United States of
- 8:55Speaker 2: America and people fought for the flag of this country.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I happen to have a purple heart myself, not from me,
- 9:06Speaker 2: from my uncle who was killed in Iwo Jima, and
- 9:09Speaker 2: the family presented me with– I literally have his purple heart.
- 9:13Speaker 1: And for people like that that.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Went over there at 19 years old and never came home,
- 9:20Speaker 2: and you're a WNBA star, and the national anthem comes on,
- 9:26Speaker 2: and not one or two like Kaepernick or, you know, Neal.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Both teams in the WNBA championship jog off the court
- 9:36Speaker 2: together for our national anthem. And we'll get into some
- 9:41Speaker 2: Trumpisms a little later. But I don't look at the
- 9:45Speaker 2: American flag and think of Donald Trump.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I just don't.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I think of the people who fought for this country,
- 9:54Speaker 2: who fought for our rights, who fought to make us.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Free and live the way we do.
- 10:02Speaker 2: And now you're a professional athlete and you jog off
- 10:08Speaker 2: the court when they play the Star Spangled Banner and
- 10:14Speaker 2: there's someone holding an American flag there, whether it's military
- 10:17Speaker 2: or law enforcement. Has Trump affected people that much that
- 10:24Speaker 2: they forgot what the flag means? And it's not funny,
- 10:29Speaker 2: but it brings me back to one of the leaders
- 10:33Speaker 2: of doing this started to be Brittany Griner, who was
- 10:40Speaker 2: a large woman, center, and she played at Baylor, won
- 10:45Speaker 2: the national championship, and went on to the WNBA. In fact,
- 10:48Speaker 2: this year, I think she was with the Connecticut Sun.
- 10:52Speaker 1: And she.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Was one of the champions of, I'm not going to
- 10:57Speaker 2: stand for the Star Spangled Banner. I'm going to walk
- 11:00Speaker 2: off the court. I'm going to sit on the bench.
- 11:02Speaker 2: I'm going to kneel or whatever else nonsense they do.
- 11:06Speaker 2: And then Brittany Griner, because they weren't making a lot
- 11:10Speaker 2: of money before Caitlin Clark, goes over to Russia to play.
- 11:16Speaker 2: And I think returning back, going through the airport, she
- 11:20Speaker 2: had a quantity of marijuana with her.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Do I think it's a big deal?
- 11:24Speaker 3: I don't.
- 11:25Speaker 1: But in Russia, if you're a WNBA star and you
- 11:28Speaker 1: got marijuana, you know what?
- 11:29Speaker 2: You got a problem. Because they're probably like they do
- 11:33Speaker 2: on many people. I don't understand why these people travel
- 11:35Speaker 2: to other countries anymore. But especially if you're somebody, they're
- 11:40Speaker 2: going to lock you up and they're.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Going to want something back from us to get you out.
- 11:44Speaker 2: So Brittany Griner gets locked up in Russia for marijuana.
- 11:51Speaker 1: She's in the slammer. She's in jail.
- 11:53Speaker 2: She's going to do hard time. And now, who do
- 11:58Speaker 2: you think they want? Or what country do you think
- 12:03Speaker 2: they want to come to her rescue? The same country,
- 12:09Speaker 2: the same flag that she refused to stand for. And now, her,
- 12:18Speaker 2: her wife, her family, her friends are going to go
- 12:22Speaker 2: to the same political leadership that represents that flag and
- 12:28Speaker 2: ask for some type of assistance from the country you
- 12:33Speaker 2: turned your back on. You would not stand for the
- 12:35Speaker 2: American flag. And now when you're locked up, it's a
- 12:46Speaker 2: different story. Now you want that country to come to
- 12:48Speaker 2: your rescue. to help you out, to get you out
- 12:52Speaker 2: of jail.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Are you kidding me?
- 12:59Speaker 2: The freedom to take a basketball court, to play and
- 13:04Speaker 2: make money at a sport, to have people come into
- 13:07Speaker 2: an arena and pay money to watch you play.
- 13:11Speaker 1: What is that? It's all the American dream. I don't know.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Most of my friends growing up, We all would love
- 13:20Speaker 2: to be professional athletes.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Not many.
- 13:23Speaker 2: I can only think of maybe a couple that realize
- 13:29Speaker 2: that dream. But that's an American dream of what you're doing.
- 13:36Speaker 2: And what bothered me also is, I don't know how
- 13:39Speaker 2: many girls on a team. Just say 10, 12 girls
- 13:41Speaker 2: on a team. Okay, so 20, 24 girls on both teams.
- 13:48Speaker 2: And you're telling me all of them, which they did,
- 13:52Speaker 2: all of them are going to run off the court?
- 13:54Speaker 2: There wasn't one with enough intestinal fortitude or had the
- 13:59Speaker 2: thoughts of, no, I'm not doing that. Because that would
- 14:02Speaker 2: have been me. You guys can run off the court.
- 14:05Speaker 2: But I'm still proud to be an American. I'm still
- 14:10Speaker 2: proud to represent the American flag. And I'm going to
- 14:15Speaker 2: stand with my hand on my heart while the national anthem.
- 14:20Speaker 2: And I can only say to me, that's one thing.
- 14:23Speaker 2: That's peer pressure. You're pressuring everybody to do the same thing.
- 14:30Speaker 2: But again, this is the same league who their cash cow,
- 14:37Speaker 2: whether people like her or not, or it's white or
- 14:40Speaker 2: black or gay or straight. Caitlin Clark is their cash cow.
- 14:44Speaker 2: She's increased their salaries like crazy. And they're just beating
- 14:49Speaker 2: the heck out of her, out of your cash cow,
- 14:52Speaker 2: for whatever reason she's not liked. Now, again, I may
- 14:56Speaker 2: not like different people in the world, but if they're
- 14:58Speaker 2: making me a ton of money, I'm not beating them up.
- 15:01Speaker 2: We're going to play the game. We're going to play
- 15:03Speaker 2: the game right. But they're like mauling this girl, and
- 15:08Speaker 2: nobody is saying anything. And now people have said it's
- 15:12Speaker 2: because she's white and she's a star. It's because she's
- 15:16Speaker 2: straight and she's a star, because she's getting a lot
- 15:19Speaker 2: of attention. It really doesn't make any difference, but it's sad.
- 15:26Speaker 2: And if that's the way the WNBA is, I'm glad
- 15:29Speaker 2: two things.
- 15:30Speaker 1: One, I don't watch them. And two, I've never gone
- 15:34Speaker 1: to a game.
- 15:44Speaker 4: I just say I'm living in stereo.
- 16:01Speaker 5: Good Thursday morning, everyone.

- 17:05Speaker 9: Don't miss this frightfully fun night. Hi, I'm Ross, the
- 17:09Speaker 9: Amish guy from Sawyer Sheds in Plainfield. You know, people
- 17:11Speaker 9: come in all the time and tell me they bought
- 17:13Speaker 9: one of those bargain sheds.
- 17:14Speaker 5: A couple of years later, they come back and they
- 17:16Speaker 5: want a real one.
- 17:17Speaker 11: At Sawyer Sheds, we build with real wood, real 2x4 construction,
- 17:21Speaker 11: no particle board, just Amish.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Craftsmanship built to last.
- 17:25Speaker 11: We've got sheds, chicken coops, garages, tiny homes built tough
- 17:29Speaker 11: enough for the New England weather.
- 17:31Speaker 1: So buy it once, buy it right.
- 17:33Speaker 12: Stop by at Sawyer Sheds in Plainfield.
- 17:35Speaker 13: Sawyer Sheds, built with Amish craftsmanship.
- 17:37Speaker 9: We'll be right back.
- 17:54Speaker 14: No, you forgot the whole thing. Well, I'll put that
- 17:56Speaker 14: in after.
- 17:56Speaker 9: No, I'm saying this line. Okay, you say that line.
- 17:58Speaker 6: Go ahead and say it.
- 18:21Speaker 14: Preston Trading Post, hard to find, impossible to forget.
- 18:24Speaker 15: What's my line?
- 18:26Speaker 16: This one.
- 18:28Speaker 9: We should just do this.
- 18:29Speaker 6: No, you do this. You do this line. So, yes,
- 18:33Speaker 6: we may be a little off the beaten path.
- 18:35Speaker 17: That's only because the beaten path doesn't have this much
- 18:38Speaker 17: good stuff in it.
- 18:39Speaker 18: On it.
- 18:40Speaker 19: On it.
- 18:40Speaker 9: Hi, I'm Hugh Hewitt.
- 18:42Speaker 20: Did you know there is a right and a wrong
- 18:44Speaker 20: way to withdraw from your savings in retirement? You may
- 18:46Speaker 20: have several accounts, but which do you use first? You
- 18:48Speaker 20: have to think about taxes. Taking Social Security too early
- 18:51Speaker 20: can reduce your benefits. and withdrawing during a down market

- 25:57Speaker 34: Sunshine today with a high around 65. A woman was

- 27:18Speaker 9: I'm Sean Murphy. When news breaks, we break in.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Welcome back.
- 27:23Speaker 2: 94.9 News Now. I'm Todd Lynch in for Lee Elsie today. Again,
- 27:30Speaker 2: I'll put the phone number out there.
- 27:32Speaker 1: It's going to be a long three hours.
- 27:33Speaker 7: 860-464-9490.
- 27:34Speaker 1: I'm going to change base a little bit.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Because I have said a couple times here, I know
- 27:45Speaker 2: they think the people here are all just far right.
- 27:48Speaker 2: I've always said I'm an independent voter, and I don't
- 27:52Speaker 2: wear a MAGA hat. I think the president has done
- 27:55Speaker 2: some good things and some bad things. Recently I said
- 27:59Speaker 2: I didn't agree with the Kennedy Center issue. And more recently,
- 28:08Speaker 2: I don't like being in bed with Russia over oil
- 28:12Speaker 2: after we put sanctions on Putin for the late Senator
- 28:17Speaker 2: Lindsey Graham. But I don't realize, or I don't understand
- 28:27Speaker 2: why someone would take their time and stand in a
- 28:31Speaker 2: park or at the parade Plaza in new London with
- 28:37Speaker 2: signs and jump up and down, um, about No King's Day.
- 28:44Speaker 2: And I happened to drive by one of these sites.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Where do these people come from? You know, I'm not
- 28:53Speaker 2: saying that, you know, there's probably some decent people in there,
- 28:55Speaker 2: but there are some crazy looking people that take their weekends.
- 29:02Speaker 2: I don't, I can honestly say that I have never
- 29:07Speaker 2: loved or hated a president enough to take my Saturday
- 29:10Speaker 2: and stand in a park with a sign. And if
- 29:15Speaker 2: you look at the pictures of these people holding up
- 29:20Speaker 2: illegal immigrants, I don't know if they were detained by
- 29:25Speaker 2: ICE or whatever, but standing in a local park, where
- 29:29Speaker 2: are the signs about the individuals that have been killed
- 29:34Speaker 2: by illegal immigrants?
- 29:35Speaker 1: Why aren't they holding up signs for that? Or obviously
- 29:39Speaker 1: my base.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Is what about the immigrants that attack hurt or kill
- 29:44Speaker 2: law enforcement it was recently a new york city police
- 29:48Speaker 2: officer that was attacked by two stabbed and had his.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Chain stolen from him off duty Why isn't that news?
- 29:58Speaker 2: Why isn't someone standing in a park for those people
- 30:01Speaker 2: that are the victims of these people? I'm all for
- 30:05Speaker 2: people who come here legally, legally. There's a way to
- 30:08Speaker 2: come here legally. But if you cross a river and
- 30:13Speaker 2: run through the bushes and hide and come here illegally,
- 30:18Speaker 2: then that's what you are. You're an illegal immigrant. So
- 30:21Speaker 2: if you're located, you should go back to your country.
- 30:25Speaker 2: If you want to then try again to come here legally,
- 30:28Speaker 2: I'm all for it. It's the American way. And in
- 30:34Speaker 2: saying that, recently New London, go figure, had a couple
- 30:42Speaker 2: forums on immigrant rights in the face of surveillance. So
- 30:49Speaker 2: now they don't want surveillance cameras in the city of
- 30:53Speaker 2: New London. Because they may find illegal immigrants on the
- 30:57Speaker 2: cameras in the city of New London.
- 31:01Speaker 1: And I don't want to hold myself to the number.
- 31:02Speaker 1: I bet there's New London, I don't.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Know, between maybe, I'm assuming, 15, 18, 20,000 people. And
- 31:11Speaker 2: in between the two groups, one surveillance off our street,
- 31:16Speaker 2: southeastern Connecticut. Boy, that's a real, went to a stretch
- 31:20Speaker 2: on that one. And then New London Civil Liberties Defense.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Those are the two forums that got together to talk
- 31:29Speaker 2: about this, to talk about license plate readers and technology
- 31:35Speaker 2: that may fine criminals. And they're more worried about keeping
- 31:43Speaker 2: illegal immigrants in the country than technology that not only
- 31:48Speaker 2: will remove them but remove dangerous criminals. and I don't
- 31:52Speaker 2: know how much the listeners follow the news, but I
- 31:57Speaker 2: bet you out of the last 10 unknown homicides or
- 32:03Speaker 2: significant crimes, I bet you these license plate readers have
- 32:09Speaker 2: directly been involved in solving, I bet you, eight of them.
- 32:13Speaker 2: There was one in Milford where they had no idea.
- 32:16Speaker 2: A man and a woman in a beautiful home On
- 32:21Speaker 2: the waterfront, two people went in the house, shot and
- 32:25Speaker 2: killed the guy. I believe shot or harmed the woman.
- 32:28Speaker 2: They had no idea who did it. And you know
- 32:30Speaker 2: what solved it? A license plate reader captured a worker
- 32:34Speaker 2: that had been fired weeks ago that came back, and
- 32:37Speaker 2: the license plate reader hit on the car, leaving, and
- 32:41Speaker 2: that's how they identified, located, and arrested two subjects for murder.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Yet we're worrying about illegal immigrants. that may be not harmed,
- 32:54Speaker 2: may be located by some of this technology. And I
- 32:58Speaker 2: laugh because of the number I gave you, 18,000, 20,000
- 33:03Speaker 2: people who live just into London, but obviously other people
- 33:06Speaker 2: can go to these forums.
- 33:09Speaker 1: They had 20 people attend. That's a knockout forum right there, huh?
- 33:15Speaker 2: And again, you see the village idiots that stand in
- 33:18Speaker 2: the corner with the signs saying, And there's probably 15
- 33:22Speaker 2: of them.
- 33:26Speaker 1: What are you doing?
- 33:28Speaker 2: And I'm going to bring that. I'm limited to what
- 33:31Speaker 2: I can say on some local politics. I voted already.
- 33:38Speaker 2: And I can tell you, don't mind hiding. I voted
- 33:42Speaker 2: for some Republicans. I voted for some Democrats. I voted
- 33:46Speaker 2: for some independents. I vote who I think is going
- 33:49Speaker 2: to do the best job for me and my family.
- 33:51Speaker 2: shares my values. It's not always a Democrat. It's not
- 33:54Speaker 2: always a Republican. It's not always an independent, but I'm
- 33:57Speaker 2: an independent voter. I can tell you certainly the one
- 34:01Speaker 2: person I didn't think of when I was in the booth,
- 34:06Speaker 2: and that was President Trump.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Maybe in a presidential election.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Or a United States senator, but my state senator, my
- 34:18Speaker 2: state representative, my local politician, Why is everything about Trump?
- 34:25Speaker 2: And I don't know why I do it because it
- 34:27Speaker 2: irritates me, but I read some of the blogs in
- 34:29Speaker 2: these articles. For one, some of these people need help
- 34:36Speaker 2: because they are. I've heard the Trump derangement syndrome and
- 34:42Speaker 2: I kind of laugh and say, oh, it's people making up.
- 34:44Speaker 2: People really have Trump derangement syndrome. There's a blogger. over
- 34:52Speaker 2: in Eastline. I think it's Lucera Jane Nutberg or something
- 34:57Speaker 2: like that.
- 34:58Speaker 1: It should be Nutberg.
- 35:01Speaker 2: I would have loved to be with that woman on
- 35:07Speaker 2: the election night when he won because she must have
- 35:08Speaker 2: lost her mind. It could be talking about a traffic
- 35:13Speaker 2: accident at the Flanders Four Corners in a newspaper article.
- 35:18Speaker 2: And somehow she's going to blog in about Donald Trump.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Everything is about Trump. And again, whether I voted for
- 35:27Speaker 2: a Democrat, Republican or independent, it had nothing to do
- 35:30Speaker 2: with the president. Yet some of these people. That's all
- 35:36Speaker 2: they have in their life is this president. And again,
- 35:39Speaker 2: I think he's done some good things for my wallet.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I think he's done some bad things for the country.
- 35:43Speaker 1: I've said him. I said him on here. But in
- 35:49Speaker 1: in twenty twenty eight.
- 35:51Speaker 2: I can understand that's who you're going to be thinking of,
- 35:53Speaker 2: who was on his cabinet, who's going to run.
- 35:54Speaker 18: I get it.
- 35:57Speaker 2: But when I'm voting for my state senator, I'm not
- 36:02Speaker 2: going to think about that. I don't understand it. And
- 36:07Speaker 2: getting into a little bit of the politics local, if
- 36:16Speaker 2: you're going to put in an editorial, which I did
- 36:19Speaker 2: last election, I put in editorial as the former police
- 36:24Speaker 2: union president in New London. But if you're going to
- 36:29Speaker 2: put in an editorial about an advocate for education, Martha Marks,
- 36:40Speaker 2: and you're going to write that, please at the end
- 36:45Speaker 2: don't put in it's from the writer is the president
- 36:49Speaker 2: of the London Board of Education Elaine Maynard Adams.
- 36:55Speaker 1: And I'm saying that because, and this is not.
- 37:03Speaker 2: A shot at New London, but this is a shot
- 37:05Speaker 2: at the education system in New London. And this is
- 37:10Speaker 2: coming from someone who was born and raised there, elementary school,
- 37:14Speaker 2: junior high, New London High School, all of them.
- 37:16Speaker 1: That's where I went. The education system in New London is.
- 37:25Speaker 35: Awful.
- 37:28Speaker 2: And this person is the president, who I know, president
- 37:31Speaker 2: of the Board of Education in New London, and you're
- 37:34Speaker 2: going to talk about, you know, who supports it.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Let me ask you something, Mrs.
- 37:40Speaker 13: Adams.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Why are you still the only school system With everything
- 37:48Speaker 2: that's happening with lunatics going into schools and shooting up
- 37:51Speaker 2: our kids, why are you the only school system that
- 37:53Speaker 2: doesn't want police officers who are armed that can make
- 37:57Speaker 2: a difference in your school system? God forbid, and I'll repeat,
- 38:01Speaker 2: God forbid someone never goes into a New London school
- 38:05Speaker 2: and is not confronted by a law enforcement officer because
- 38:09Speaker 2: of the ridiculous actions by that.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Board led by you.
- 38:16Speaker 2: And I'll double down on that with my buddy, State
- 38:20Speaker 2: Representative Anthony Nolan, who made a career out of being
- 38:23Speaker 2: the SRO. Let me just tell you what you're hearing
- 38:27Speaker 2: from him about no SROs in the schools.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Crickets.
- 38:32Speaker 31: You know why?
- 38:33Speaker 2: Because in the city of New London, it's not politically correct.
- 38:37Speaker 2: I'm going to take a call.
- 38:39Speaker 1: It is, I believe, is it Harry or Henry from Waterford?
- 38:43Speaker 31: Henry.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Henry, my man. Go ahead, my friend.
- 38:46Speaker 36: Well, you have a lot to say, and I can
- 38:50Speaker 36: comment on every single point, but I won't.
- 38:53Speaker 1: I'm on until 9, Henry. Help me out.
- 38:57Speaker 36: But I will say, you're absolutely right. We shouldn't be
- 39:00Speaker 36: thinking about Trump when it comes to the election. However,
- 39:04Speaker 36: he is on the campaign trail saying, pretend I'm on
- 39:10Speaker 36: the ballot. So it's not us you need to speak to.
- 39:14Speaker 36: It's to him. He is making it. That is a
- 39:17Speaker 36: referendum on him. But that's not why I want to talk.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Henry, can I just comment real quick? I don't want
- 39:22Speaker 2: to interrupt you, but I want to jump in before
- 39:23Speaker 2: you go on your next point. I agree with you,
- 39:26Speaker 2: but I believe in those forums he's.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Going for U.S. senators and U.S.
- 39:32Speaker 30: Representatives.
- 39:32Speaker 1: He's not going for your local state senator.
- 39:37Speaker 36: I agree, but unfortunately we can't separate the two emotionally.
- 39:44Speaker 36: But I hear your point. We can't separate the two.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Okay, go ahead. I interrupted you on your next point.
- 39:50Speaker 36: Well, I have to say that when you talk about
- 39:54Speaker 36: assisted suicide, that kind.
- 39:59Speaker 30: Of hit a nerve.
- 40:01Speaker 36: I mean, I think it took a lot of courage
- 40:02Speaker 36: for you and bravery to talk about it. And then
- 40:06Speaker 36: I started thinking, well, he's a cop.
- 40:08Speaker 30: That's all.
- 40:09Speaker 36: That's what he knows is to be courageous and brave
- 40:12Speaker 36: and brave. But I would say I hear your point.
- 40:16Speaker 36: I'm not 100 percent in agreement. But I can see
- 40:19Speaker 36: why you said it because, again, I can't be on
- 40:22Speaker 36: the phone too long because I have to get ready
- 40:24Speaker 36: to go to the hospital to see my mother because she's.
- 40:26Speaker 30: Going through it.
- 40:27Speaker 1: God bless your mother, Henry.
- 40:29Speaker 30: Yeah, thank you.
- 40:30Speaker 36: But it's a very difficult topic to discuss and to
- 40:34Speaker 36: talk about. I think you're going to have some pros
- 40:36Speaker 36: and cons, but I just have to admire your courage
- 40:39Speaker 36: and your bravery to bring it up.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Henry, if I could just respond, I just want to
- 40:44Speaker 2: be clear so I'm clear on the point. I want
- 40:48Speaker 2: it to be at a point where the individual who
- 40:51Speaker 2: it's obviously affecting is the one who makes that decision
- 40:55Speaker 2: along with their physician. I don't want the family to decide.
- 40:58Speaker 2: I want the person to decide.
- 41:01Speaker 16: Right.
- 41:01Speaker 36: I got that. And you're absolutely right. You're absolutely right.
- 41:04Speaker 36: And it's not my place to decide, to be honest
- 41:06Speaker 36: with you.
- 41:07Speaker 2: If I may ask you, I don't want to put
- 41:09Speaker 2: you on the spot, but I think you have education
- 41:12Speaker 2: in your background.
- 41:13Speaker 15: I do.
- 41:15Speaker 1: What do you think about.
- 41:18Speaker 2: Every town around here, I don't know where you taught
- 41:22Speaker 2: or anything, but every town around has the SROs in here,
- 41:26Speaker 2: except for New London. If you were still in the classroom,
- 41:32Speaker 2: how– this is an awful statement, but how would it
- 41:36Speaker 2: affect you if someone went into one of these schools
- 41:38Speaker 2: where you're there with kids– And the town or the
- 41:42Speaker 2: city is making a choice not to do it, in
- 41:45Speaker 2: my mind, Henry, for political reasons, not for what's right
- 41:48Speaker 2: and wrong.
- 41:50Speaker 36: I think they're necessary. And I did work in education.
- 41:53Speaker 36: In fact, for a number of years, I did work
- 41:56Speaker 36: in New London. And I have to say that it's
- 42:01Speaker 36: appalling to know they don't want to have them. And
- 42:05Speaker 36: I think it's for the wrong reasons, as you say.
- 42:07Speaker 36: I know in some districts they do not want them
- 42:10Speaker 36: wearing uniforms, which I think is wrong. I think they
- 42:13Speaker 36: should wear four uniforms because, in my opinion, they need
- 42:17Speaker 36: to build relationships with the students and with the staff
- 42:21Speaker 36: that it's safe to have them. That's part of society.
- 42:25Speaker 36: We need law enforcement. It's not a separate entity. And
- 42:30Speaker 36: I think it does help. It's a good image. But
- 42:33Speaker 36: the SROs that I'm familiar with, have a good relationship
- 42:36Speaker 36: with the students, have a good relationship with the staff
- 42:38Speaker 36: and the administration, and that is necessary because people feel safe.
- 42:44Speaker 31: Does it protect everyone?
- 42:46Speaker 36: No, it doesn't, but it will protect many of us.
- 42:49Speaker 13: And I think it's needed.
- 42:50Speaker 2: I was in the conversations when I was a union
- 42:52Speaker 2: president in London, and I'll tell you the outcome was
- 42:56Speaker 2: they wanted an SRO, but they wanted it in the
- 42:59Speaker 2: central office who he or she could then respond to Henry,
- 43:04Speaker 2: that defeats the purpose.
- 43:05Speaker 1: You need to be in there before the event happens.
- 43:08Speaker 36: Absolutely. In fact, I used to say when I was
- 43:11Speaker 36: a classroom teacher, it only takes one or two seconds
- 43:14Speaker 36: for something to go wrong. So to have someone in
- 43:16Speaker 36: central office, we're done. I mean, you could say 100
- 43:19Speaker 36: kids would be dead by that time. You need someone there,
- 43:21Speaker 36: and still, it takes one or two seconds for something
- 43:25Speaker 36: to go wrong.
- 43:26Speaker 30: And so.
- 43:28Speaker 31: Again, and not that New.
- 43:29Speaker 36: London has these great test scores around the state. They
- 43:33Speaker 36: need all the help they can get. But I'm with
- 43:38Speaker 36: you with that. I don't understand why New London doesn't
- 43:43Speaker 36: want to do it. It also hurts recruiting what teachers
- 43:48Speaker 36: do want to work at New London if they know
- 43:50Speaker 36: they don't feel protected by the city.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Well, I was going to say two things. I don't
- 43:55Speaker 2: know if you're a parent, but obviously you worked in
- 43:57Speaker 2: school systems. And if you are a parent, you have
- 44:02Speaker 2: a twofold look at this. One, you want to go
- 44:05Speaker 2: to work and be safe for yourself, but also, and
- 44:09Speaker 2: I laugh about this, and it's not a funny subject,
- 44:12Speaker 2: but the head, the superintendent of schools, sends her children
- 44:19Speaker 2: to a school with an SRO, yet doesn't want one there.
- 44:22Speaker 2: And again, as a parent, I can't imagine sending my
- 44:27Speaker 2: kid to a school system that doesn't want someone in
- 44:30Speaker 2: there that is armed and can protect my child. God
- 44:34Speaker 2: help them if something awful happened and they made that decision.
- 44:39Speaker 38: Right.
- 44:40Speaker 36: And as a former administrator, my number one job was
- 44:43Speaker 36: to keep the students safe. My number two responsibility was
- 44:48Speaker 36: to make sure the students were safe. I mean, I
- 44:51Speaker 36: was supposed to be an educational leader. I didn't really
- 44:54Speaker 36: have that much time to do that. Because my number
- 44:57Speaker 36: one job is to make sure everyone was safe. Because
- 45:00Speaker 36: once they're in the building, they have my responsibilities. And
- 45:03Speaker 36: trust me, I needed all the help I can get.
- 45:06Speaker 36: If I could have two SROs, perfect. That would be great.
- 45:10Speaker 36: Because parents expected me to protect their child in the building.
- 45:18Speaker 36: And parents want their kids to be safe. And that
- 45:22Speaker 36: took that responsibility. I took it on and I took
- 45:25Speaker 36: it seriously. And that was my number one responsibility. Why
- 45:28Speaker 36: parents don't want it in New London?
- 45:30Speaker 30: I don't believe that.
- 45:31Speaker 36: I think they do want the SRO in the school system.
- 45:35Speaker 1: I think it's political.
- 45:36Speaker 2: I think politically, for them in that type of environment,
- 45:40Speaker 2: they don't want, like you said, the cop in uniform.
- 45:43Speaker 1: And I think it's a horrible decision, and I'll stick
- 45:46Speaker 1: by it.
- 45:46Speaker 2: And for a state representative that used to be in
- 45:49Speaker 2: the school systems, made a career out of being in
- 45:51Speaker 2: the school system playing kickball and not speaking up on
- 45:54Speaker 2: it is horrible.
- 45:55Speaker 1: Henry, we're heading to a break, and God bless your
- 45:57Speaker 1: mother today.
- 46:10Speaker 39: Thank you.

- 50:12Speaker 17: Republican Senator Dan Sullivan tells Fox's Hannity the scheme the
- 50:16Speaker 17: New York Times reported to put another Dan Sullivan on
- 50:19Speaker 17: the ballot aims to trick voters. And he blames his
- 50:21Speaker 17: main challenger, Mary Peltola, but the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
- 50:24Speaker 17: denies that.
- 50:25Speaker 39: He's saying the DSAC is not involved with Dan J.
- 50:28Speaker 13: Sullivan.
- 50:29Speaker 39: Republicans have a long history of recruiting and propping up

- 50:36Speaker 39: the Times says it has text messages showing the DSCC
- 50:39Speaker 39: and Paltola's campaign communicated for months about this project. Paltola

- 50:47Speaker 17: President Trump tells reporters Paltola should withdraw from that Senate race.
- 50:50Speaker 11: I think she should be prosecuted criminally for what she did.
- 50:53Speaker 17: Well, he said that before holding in another Republican rally
- 50:55Speaker 17: in Ohio last night. Today, a campaign in South Carolina
- 50:58Speaker 17: is still urging voters not to let Democrats win control
- 51:01Speaker 17: of Congress.
- 51:02Speaker 25: I really am on the ballot, if you think, because
- 51:04Speaker 25: all of those tax cuts, all of the things that
- 51:06Speaker 25: we've gotten, all of the victories that we've had with Venezuela,
- 51:09Speaker 25: soon Iran will close that one out, too.
- 51:12Speaker 17: The president is considering resuming bombing Iran, continuing to insist
- 51:15Speaker 17: he won't let them have a nuclear weapon.
- 51:17Speaker 6: And Fox's Greg Palcott reports.
- 51:18Speaker 44: Well, no decision has been made to conduct more offensive action.
- 51:21Speaker 44: Officials tell Fox U.S. and Israeli fighter jets are making.

- 58:25Speaker 9: And committee changes. I'm Sean Murphy. When news breaks, we
- 58:30Speaker 9: break in.
- 58:32Speaker 2: Welcome back to 94.9 News Now. My name's Todd Lynch.
- 58:37Speaker 2: I'm in for Lee Elsie for the morning, 6 to 9.
- 58:41Speaker 2: Thank you for the callers. Anyone who wants to call
- 58:44Speaker 2: in on any of the subjects, you're welcome.
- 58:46Speaker 16: 860-464-9490.
- 58:52Speaker 1: Going to hit a couple law enforcement things.
- 58:55Speaker 2: A shout out to Norwich PD who had a, I
- 59:00Speaker 2: guess you would call it a medal service for great
- 59:04Speaker 2: things that the law enforcement officers in Norwich had done recently,
- 59:08Speaker 2: including one who survived a headshot.
- 59:10Speaker 1: Of gunfire.
- 59:12Speaker 2: But just reading some of the names I knew and
- 59:15Speaker 2: some of the heroic things they did, it just goes
- 59:18Speaker 2: to show you in law enforcement that many people– these
- 59:21Speaker 2: things probably 80 percent did not hit the paper every day,
- 59:25Speaker 2: but it just goes to show you that– Law enforcement
- 59:30Speaker 2: is out there, men and women, every day, 365, nights, holidays, weekends,
- 59:36Speaker 2: when everyone else may or may not be doing their job,
- 59:40Speaker 2: putting their lives on the line. So a shout out
- 59:42Speaker 2: to all law enforcement, but especially the Norwich officers who
- 59:45Speaker 2: received their awards. Something from my second state of Florida,
- 59:52Speaker 2: they're still putting people to death, which I think is
- 59:55Speaker 2: a great deterrent. I think Connecticut should have the death penalty.
- 59:59Speaker 2: for the people that killed the Pettit family, the animals
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: that killed the family up in Griswold. And we'll talk
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: about the word animals later on because I think those
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: people were animals.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: It has nothing to do with their race.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: And Florida put to death a 77-year-old man recently. So
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: it doesn't matter how old you are. You do it,
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: they'll kill you. And I don't get why this is
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: continuing to happen. I was on the day this happened,
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: but a man killed his partner, had his trial, made
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: a mockery of the criminal justice system, by the way,
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: during the trial, and then was given a 65-year sentence
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: for murder. And now when they hit the palace that
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: they're living in, he wants to go back to court
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: and have it reduced. Hey, buddy, you did the crime.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: Now you do the time. You don't want to be
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: up there. Don't murder someone. Going to go to the line.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Line one first is Juan from New London.
- 1:01:07Speaker 15: Good morning, Todd. How are you?
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: Good morning, my friend.
- 1:01:09Speaker 15: Good morning. So as a fellow 1984 graduate of New
- 1:01:16Speaker 15: London High School, as you said, when you say some
- 1:01:20Speaker 15: things and you're kind of speaking against maybe or not
- 1:01:24Speaker 15: even speaking against, but you're airing the truth, people will
- 1:01:27Speaker 15: take it offensively. But what you said today about the
- 1:01:31Speaker 15: SRO is so true that I had to call in,
- 1:01:34Speaker 15: and I'm driving to New Orleans High School right now
- 1:01:36Speaker 15: to go to work. So my thing is this. In
- 1:01:39Speaker 15: these trainings, and I'll be the first to admit, I
- 1:01:41Speaker 15: don't know everything about education. I don't understand all of
- 1:01:45Speaker 15: the IEPs and all the other things that go on
- 1:01:48Speaker 15: there because I was a probation officer for 20 years.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: Congratulations on that pension, my friend.
- 1:01:53Speaker 15: Well, guess what? You got a couple of them, so
- 1:01:57Speaker 15: you know I'm trying to catch you. But my thing is,
- 1:02:02Speaker 15: the crazy part about this is I do understand crime,
- 1:02:05Speaker 15: and I know that certain things are true. I know
- 1:02:09Speaker 15: that all studies show to have a police officer confront
- 1:02:15Speaker 15: an active shooter, they do one of two things, commit
- 1:02:18Speaker 15: suicide or surrender.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 1:02:20Speaker 15: And I have been in the training at New London
- 1:02:23Speaker 15: High School where they say, we've got to buy five minutes.
- 1:02:27Speaker 15: New London's not that big. We'll get them here in
- 1:02:29Speaker 15: five minutes. Well, I also know that most active shooter
- 1:02:34Speaker 15: situations last about five to six minutes, but most of
- 1:02:38Speaker 15: the killing takes place in the first 90 seconds. So
- 1:02:42Speaker 15: to say that is so ridiculous. But again, if you're
- 1:02:46Speaker 15: speaking to teachers who don't know those types of things, okay, yeah,
- 1:02:51Speaker 15: you know, throw books, yell, do whatever you can to
- 1:02:54Speaker 15: distract them because they can't do two things at one time.
- 1:02:57Speaker 15: They can't multitask. That's ridiculous.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: And that's very well put from, again, my fellow Whaler
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: graduate of 1984, who we walked those halls together. We
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: went to school together there. I won't say what we
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: did on some weekends, but, you know, we'll let that go.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: But a.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: a tremendous parent with your wife that put three kids
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: through that school. And I just don't know what it
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: would be like sending my children there, knowing all the
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: other regional schools have someone in there that could prevent that,
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: and the city of New London is making that determination.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: And, again, Juan, I'm just giving my opinion. It's political.
- 1:03:43Speaker 15: Well, political and a little bit just, I guess you
- 1:03:47Speaker 15: would say, almost suicidal empathy because we want to make
- 1:03:53Speaker 15: people think that we're, you know, understanding their point of view.
- 1:03:58Speaker 15: And so, oh man, if the police officer in here,
- 1:04:01Speaker 15: kids feel uncomfortable. Well, you know what? Yes. Probably more
- 1:04:05Speaker 15: kids will get arrested. If two kids had a fist fight,
- 1:04:08Speaker 15: they might get arrested and then they have to go
- 1:04:10Speaker 15: to work. But you know where they go? Juvenile review board.
- 1:04:12Speaker 23: Right.
- 1:04:13Speaker 15: They're not going to, unless they do something egregious. They're
- 1:04:16Speaker 15: not going even to juvenile court, let alone the prison.
- 1:04:20Speaker 15: But again, it's always the worst-case hyperbole situation they want
- 1:04:25Speaker 15: to present. And my thing is this. When my kids
- 1:04:29Speaker 15: were there, or our kids, because my wife and I,
- 1:04:32Speaker 15: we had them together, you know what? There was an
- 1:04:35Speaker 15: SRO there. And never did my kids come home, oh,
- 1:04:39Speaker 15: I don't feel comfortable, Dad. That guy had a uniform on. No,
- 1:04:43Speaker 15: they never did that. But in the end... As you said,
- 1:04:46Speaker 15: heaven forbid if it ever happened. Because I worked in
- 1:04:49Speaker 15: a system very similar to this when I worked at probation.
- 1:04:52Speaker 15: Our director went out and purchased weapons for every PO
- 1:04:55Speaker 15: in the state, and then we got a new director
- 1:04:58Speaker 15: who didn't believe in guns. So then we don't get
- 1:05:01Speaker 15: the calories. So for 20 years, I had a baton line.
- 1:05:04Speaker 15: I had pepper spray. I had a bulletproof vest. I
- 1:05:08Speaker 15: had handcuffs. I went in the houses. I did home visits.
- 1:05:10Speaker 15: I made arrests with no weapons. It's just ridiculous.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind having you with me, buddy.
- 1:05:20Speaker 15: Well, but you know what? Unfortunately, that's what would have
- 1:05:23Speaker 15: to happen. That if I were in a situation like that,
- 1:05:26Speaker 15: then I got to go all crazy because I want
- 1:05:29Speaker 15: to go home at night.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 1:05:31Speaker 15: And then they're going to say, oh, that's excessive violence.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: And it's going to be, I don't want to change
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: subjects on you. I know you're heading to work. But
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: we rode buses together.
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: As we were on sports teams at New London High,
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: and I'm sure you, more than me, but I witnessed
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: a lot of it, saw some of the racial comments
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: that were awful when we went to play sports teams,
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: if you know what I mean. So I'm going to
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: speak a little in a later time. I don't know
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: if you can listen at work, but I'd love to
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: hear some feedback maybe.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: The next time I'm on or maybe when I'm not.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: With Lee to hear your uh response to the stonington
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: incident incident um because i i respect mike demoro he's
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: and i want to comment on it later on and
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: he had troy mccall mccalvin who is uh a friend
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: of mine a friend of yours a great person and
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: uh i have a little different perspective on it but
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: i would love to hear uh your thoughts after that segment.
- 1:06:35Speaker 30: Okay.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: Because we were treated different when we went to school.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: And again, obviously it was meant at the minorities, but
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: we were on the same buses and some of the
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: things that were said, I'll say, were a lot worse
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: than what I read in the paper.
- 1:06:51Speaker 15: Well, I actually heard what was said real time.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:06:56Speaker 15: I was watching it with a former player of ours
- 1:07:00Speaker 15: at my house, because obviously I didn't know how to
- 1:07:02Speaker 15: get the guy to know anything online, but he did.
- 1:07:03Speaker 38: And.
- 1:07:05Speaker 15: You know, I heard the statement when it was made,
- 1:07:08Speaker 15: and I know that people are going to lose their
- 1:07:10Speaker 15: minds when I say this, non-issue. And when I say non-issue,
- 1:07:16Speaker 15: was it said complimentary? No. It was definitely said derogatory.
- 1:07:20Speaker 15: But to say, oh, that's racist? You know what? Oh,
- 1:07:24Speaker 15: but you're saying that about minority kids. And I know
- 1:07:27Speaker 15: I use it in a different context, but I refer
- 1:07:31Speaker 15: to my daughter and her basketball career If anyone asked
- 1:07:35Speaker 15: me how she played, she was an animal. And that's
- 1:07:38Speaker 15: why I would say, and I know different youth, but
- 1:07:41Speaker 15: I bring that up because it's like when people use
- 1:07:43Speaker 15: the N-word. Well, when we say it, we mean it
- 1:07:45Speaker 15: this way. But when they say it, that's not right.
- 1:07:49Speaker 15: You know what? Then don't say it at all then.
- 1:07:52Speaker 15: Then maybe I should refer to my daughter as an
- 1:07:54Speaker 15: animal when she plays. But my thing is this. You
- 1:07:56Speaker 15: pick and choose when it's racist and when it's not.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: I totally agree. And coming from you, again, who I
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: grew up with, I take that to heart. And I'll say,
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: because I just called, you know, you know all about
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: the Pettit murders. They were two white people, but they
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: were animals, what they did to that family. And there's
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: no racism in that. And I'll say this again. You
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: rode buses like I did to sporting events. And let
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: me tell you, if you were from New London High
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: and you were pulling into Town X, and you can,
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: like me, you can put in the X.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: Some of the things you heard, We're horrible racists.
- 1:08:35Speaker 15: Well, I will say this, and it's going to be
- 1:08:37Speaker 15: funny when I say it, but it's a true story.
- 1:08:39Speaker 15: Because Mr. Elsie's hometown was known for having the most
- 1:08:44Speaker 15: beautiful girls in the area at the time.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: That's why we crossed the border.
- 1:08:49Speaker 15: You know, so I remember we were going to a
- 1:08:52Speaker 15: football game there, and I'm looking out the window, and
- 1:08:55Speaker 15: there's this beautiful girl. I'm looking at her, and she
- 1:08:58Speaker 15: flicked me the bird like nobody.
- 1:09:00Speaker 16: Did.
- 1:09:01Speaker 15: I was like, damn, what did I do besides be
- 1:09:05Speaker 15: on this bus?
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: Juan, I appreciate the call. I'm going to end on
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: this because I got another call coming in. But I
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: remember one football game when someone said, you're– from a
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: poor town as a black man and the person said
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: back from our team, but we're rich on touchdowns.
- 1:09:24Speaker 31: Hey, you know what?
- 1:09:26Speaker 15: And don't get me wrong. It's unfortunate sometimes that that
- 1:09:30Speaker 15: would be the truth, that we focus more on things
- 1:09:32Speaker 15: like that. But in the end, all being said, that
- 1:09:35Speaker 15: issue at Stonington, I think, is a non-issue. And I
- 1:09:39Speaker 15: wonder if someone yelled about the Stonington players that they
- 1:09:44Speaker 15: were animals when they won by 60 points. And they
- 1:09:46Speaker 15: might have, but no one recorded it. It's what it is.
- 1:09:49Speaker 15: But I called about the whole issue of SRO. It's
- 1:09:52Speaker 15: ridiculous not to have one, and I'm sure I'll hear
- 1:09:55Speaker 15: about it when I get to work.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: Hey, I appreciate that.
- 1:09:57Speaker 15: I feel so strongly about it, I had to call.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: And I'll end on this one, man. Prayers to our
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: friend above, if you know what I mean.
- 1:10:03Speaker 15: Yes, but also, and unfortunately, my condolences to the Canucci
- 1:10:06Speaker 15: family on Norm's passing.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: You got it, buddy.
- 1:10:10Speaker 31: All right.
- 1:10:10Speaker 15: Take care. Thank you.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: Coach, you're on.
- 1:10:15Speaker 31: Hey, good morning, Todd.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: How are you?
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: Good, good. And, you know, you had my alumni brother, Mr.
- 1:10:20Speaker 5: Warren Roman, I give him an assalamu alaikum this morning. But,
- 1:10:24Speaker 5: you know, this thing with the resource officers, clearly the
- 1:10:28Speaker 5: white ruling minority in London doesn't want the perception that
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: the place is like the last outpost. And I taught
- 1:10:37Speaker 5: there for 19 years, and when we had an SRO,
- 1:10:40Speaker 5: regardless of who it was, the only people that were
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: afraid of him or them We're the same people that
- 1:10:45Speaker 5: are on the street that don't like cops. Somebody that's
- 1:10:48Speaker 5: got a problem or somebody that's not doing the right thing.
- 1:10:51Speaker 5: So what do you rationally try to use to not
- 1:10:54Speaker 5: have a police officer in the building? It's just nonsense.
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: And you brought up the chairman of the Board of Education, Mrs.
- 1:11:00Speaker 15: Adams.
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: Completely incompetent.
- 1:11:03Speaker 23: Awful.
- 1:11:04Speaker 12: Awful.
- 1:11:05Speaker 31: Incompetent, you know.
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: And, you know, being of Italian heritage, Todd, I'm a
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: grudge holder. It's one of my shortcomings. I know it.
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: I try to work on it. But when I was
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: appointed as the AD, she came out in the paper
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: with some very negative remarks toward me. And, you know,
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: it really... I had forgotten about it until I was
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: doing some research on, I think, the plaque I had
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: made for Lee. I was looking stuff up about his
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: football career. And that, for some reason, jumped right off
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: the page at me. I don't know what her qualifications
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: are to be on that board of ed, other than she... again,
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: a tool for the white ruling minority that runs the
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: show in New London. And, you know, they come out
- 1:11:49Speaker 5: and they try to be, oh, we're doing this, we're
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: doing that. Guess what? They've got an agenda, and this
- 1:11:54Speaker 5: is why the school system's in the shape that it is.
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: The superintendent is getting out while they're getting... She should
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: have gotten out when they renewed her contract, because whoever
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: they bring in is going to have a Herculean job
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: of trying to straighten that place out Hey.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: Coach, I just want to throw this in there, too,
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: because I'm sure you heard me earlier, but isn't it
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: a little hypocritical that you send your kids to a
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: school with SROs that are armed and don't say boo
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: in your town, but the town you're in charge of,
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: you don't want them there?
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: Oh, couldn't be any more hypocritical. Couldn't be any more hypocritical.
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: And you know what? None of the SROs we ever
- 1:12:35Speaker 5: had were hard asses. Even your buddy, Tony Nolan.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: Go easy, Coach. Go easy.
- 1:12:41Speaker 15: You know?
- 1:12:43Speaker 5: I don't understand it. You can't have it both ways.
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: They've taken up the principle that you want to find
- 1:12:48Speaker 5: a good guy, a solid citizen and everything else. But
- 1:12:51Speaker 5: they've handcuffed him to the point where, you know what,
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: he's unable to.
- 1:12:56Speaker 15: Do what he'd like to do.
- 1:12:58Speaker 5: I'm sure he doesn't want to stand there and nod
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: his head and smile when there's total chaos and absolute
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: mayhem going on by a few individuals, not the whole school.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: Certainly not, Coach, but I guess my problem with Nolan
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: is he was up there as an SRO. Why is
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: he so silent on the subject? Even if he says, no,
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: I'm against him, okay, make a stand. Don't say nothing
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: when you were up there because it was all right
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: for you to be up there.
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: I think he's worried that his constituency would be affected by.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: 100%, Coach, 100%. That's what he's worried about.
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: And I'll tell you, it's too bad because... To me,
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: people say, well, you were in New London for 19 years.
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: I don't agree with the kids. It was some of
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: these administrators, you know?
- 1:13:45Speaker 41: And you know what?
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: Pull your boots up and be a man. That's at
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: the end of the day, and these people don't want
- 1:13:52Speaker 5: to do that, Todd.
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: Well, Coach, and I'll say this for someone who, you know,
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: dedicated his life in the school system. As I asked
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: Henry earlier, you're in there. You had kids that went
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: to school. Would you want them or not?
- 1:14:07Speaker 5: What, I want my kids in New Orleans?
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: No, would you, any school your kids went to or
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: any place that you worked, would you want the SROs?
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: Because I'm sure at your age, you don't want to
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: intervene in a fist fight now.
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: Listen, we had a kid get stabbed in the neck
- 1:14:21Speaker 5: with a pencil one day in a cafeteria. The former,
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: the man, the principal now, he and I broke up
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: a battle royale in a cafeteria. There was another, but, and,
- 1:14:32Speaker 5: you know, it's not everyday things. But, you know, if
- 1:14:34Speaker 5: you don't have an SRO there... It's you on the
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: front line. The day that we had a big fight,
- 1:14:43Speaker 5: Kevin McBride was out serving a warrant on somebody, and
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: it was almost like the kids knew immediately when there
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: was no SRO there that behavior by those individuals that
- 1:14:54Speaker 5: were prone to that would turn negative. You know, there's
- 1:14:58Speaker 5: always got to be some kind of an authority figure.
- 1:15:02Speaker 5: And I don't care what people say.
- 1:15:04Speaker 40: You know what?
- 1:15:04Speaker 5: That's the way of the world. Go to the Patriots game.
- 1:15:07Speaker 5: How many layers of police officers do they have there?
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: We used to go up there on a bus with
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: the state police, and let me tell you, you would
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: see them all handcuffed. The arrest they made, there would
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: be 80 people handcuffed to the floor at the barracks.
- 1:15:22Speaker 5: I mean, it's human, sometimes human nature where we're, you.
- 1:15:27Speaker 15: Know, they don't.
- 1:15:30Speaker 5: Always do the right things.
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: Coach, I appreciate it. We've got a short time left.
- 1:15:33Speaker 13: I want to.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: Put one thing out there before we go.
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: Hey, you're doing a great job. Not to blow any
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: smoke south of the border, but you're doing.
- 1:15:41Speaker 15: A good job up there.
- 1:15:42Speaker 5: And, you know, if you see the voice of freedom,
- 1:15:44Speaker 5: tell them freedom does have a voice.
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: I'm looking at him, and there was no one better
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: putting those clams out in the water than you, I'll
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: tell you that, Coach.
- 1:15:52Speaker 15: Take care, Todd.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: You got it.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: And before we go to break here, for those of
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: you who didn't read, my friend Daisy Collins called the
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: show that I'm on right now sleazy. And coming from
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: a guy, my friend Daisy, who no longer works at
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: the day, I haven't shed a tear at all about that.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: He's no Morgan McGinley, let me tell you that.
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: But for someone who calls the show sleazy and he
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: called in as a guest regularly until one of our
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: friends called him out and he couldn't take it anymore.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: Hey, Daisy, we're still talking and you're not.

- 1:25:15Speaker 1: To drink a lot of it over the next couple
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: days because for the.
- 1:25:18Speaker 21: First time in franchise history, the Milwaukee Brewers are World
- 1:25:22Speaker 21: Series champs. But we shouldn't be surprised one bit on
- 1:25:25Speaker 21: how incredible Milwaukee played because they were the best team
- 1:25:28Speaker 21: in baseball all season. They were a team that was
- 1:25:30Speaker 21: just good at everything. Only one team in the majors
- 1:25:33Speaker 21: scored more runs than they did. They were fifth in steals,
- 1:25:36Speaker 21: first in walk rate. They led the majors in batting
- 1:25:39Speaker 21: average and on base percentage. They didn't rely on home runs,
- 1:25:42Speaker 21: but they sure hit them whenever they needed to. And
- 1:25:44Speaker 21: their pitching staff and defense was insane.
- 1:25:46Speaker 9: That all added up.
- 1:25:47Speaker 21: To a franchise record of 103 wins, a dominant 11-2
- 1:25:52Speaker 21: postseason run, and a World Series title that was 58
- 1:25:55Speaker 21: years in the making.
- 1:25:56Speaker 9: Congratulations, Milwaukee.
- 1:25:58Speaker 13: You're the World Series champs.

- 1:26:04Speaker 45: Good morning.
- 1:26:05Speaker 9: I'm Sean Murphy.
- 1:26:07Speaker 34: Sunshine today for the high round 65. A woman was
- 1:26:10Speaker 34: found unresponsive and a man suffered an apparent gunshot wound
- 1:26:13Speaker 34: to the chest following a reported domestic disturbance at a

- 1:26:21Speaker 34: caller as a possible suspect. New London Police executed a
- 1:26:25Speaker 34: search warrant at a residence Wednesday afternoon as part of
- 1:26:29Speaker 34: an ongoing criminal investigation. Investigators seized evidence but have not
- 1:26:34Speaker 34: released further details. The investigation is active and ongoing. Preston

- 1:26:51Speaker 34: a planned entertainment and residential development on the former Norwich
- 1:26:56Speaker 34: Hospital property. Clinton police apprehended five juveniles Wednesday morning after
- 1:27:01Speaker 34: they allegedly fled in a stolen vehicle near Sal's Point Road.
- 1:27:05Speaker 9: Police used a drone and canine unit.

- 1:27:20Speaker 34: addressing safety and environmental concerns. The council also approved a
- 1:27:24Speaker 34: park cleanup and committee changes.
- 1:27:27Speaker 9: I'm Sean Murphy. When news breaks, we break in.
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Lee Elsie Show. I'm filling in.
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: I'm Todd Lynch.
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: It's 94.9 News Now. The phone number and the lines
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: are open.
- 1:27:46Speaker 9: 860-464-9490.
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: We'll be taking calls right up to 9 o'clock. And
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: we're going to go back to the phone to Reed
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: in the Northwest Hills.
- 1:27:55Speaker 40: Good morning.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: Morning, Reed.
- 1:27:59Speaker 38: I am very curious about what you think and see
- 1:28:04Speaker 38: and your views on things. And I got hooked with
- 1:28:08Speaker 38: your opening this morning, which at first I thought, this
- 1:28:11Speaker 38: guy's starting on a very dark note, announcing all these
- 1:28:14Speaker 38: deaths and so forth, and then getting into a discussion
- 1:28:16Speaker 38: about assisted suicide and so forth. And I thought, you know,
- 1:28:20Speaker 38: I've heard this man host this program before. I knew
- 1:28:25Speaker 38: there had been some controversies in your background, and I
- 1:28:28Speaker 38: started to look up some of those, and I thought,
- 1:28:30Speaker 38: You know, this is a guy, people pay lip service
- 1:28:33Speaker 38: all the time to what is the life of a cop.
- 1:28:38Speaker 38: But you really know it. from the heart and soul.
- 1:28:42Speaker 38: And it's very impressive to me that you were elected
- 1:28:45Speaker 38: the leader of your union. And then I was reading
- 1:28:48Speaker 38: the case law behind the action against Ms. Acker and
- 1:28:53Speaker 38: the state.
- 1:28:55Speaker 31: And I was very impressed.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: I appreciate that.
- 1:28:59Speaker 38: I hadn't thought about it in a long time, but
- 1:29:01Speaker 38: I know that the incidence of suicide among cops is
- 1:29:04Speaker 38: way higher than the population at large. And it got
- 1:29:07Speaker 38: me to thinking about the chicken and egg question of,
- 1:29:10Speaker 38: you know, are cops cops because they're suicidal or are
- 1:29:13Speaker 38: they suicidal because they're cops? And this has been a
- 1:29:16Speaker 38: very interesting commentary on your part. And I can see
- 1:29:19Speaker 38: you are a man who does not take the beaten path.
- 1:29:22Speaker 38: And I also have a lot of respect for that.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:29:24Speaker 38: Particularly in the life of law enforcement, which is probably
- 1:29:28Speaker 38: subject to more pressure for conformity than probably any other
- 1:29:33Speaker 38: thing I can think of. So I just wanted to say,
- 1:29:37Speaker 38: you know, and also the other idea is I'm a
- 1:29:40Speaker 38: guy who's up here in the sticks in the northwest corner,
- 1:29:43Speaker 38: and we do not have the problems of Bridgeport or
- 1:29:47Speaker 38: New London. And this is such a weird state that
- 1:29:50Speaker 38: we have this kind of tale of two cities, to
- 1:29:54Speaker 38: coin a phrase. and then Fairfield County, where everything is just,
- 1:29:58Speaker 38: you know, minted in gold, and yet people outside Connecticut
- 1:30:04Speaker 38: think we're nothing but a picture postcard for Christmas. You
- 1:30:10Speaker 38: really sparked my curiosity, and I just wondered if you
- 1:30:13Speaker 38: might have any more commentary about what it is like
- 1:30:16Speaker 38: to be a cop and basically be hated all the time.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: Well, Reid, I mean, it's a very good question.
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: I'm the same age as Lee, and growing up, especially
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: with a parent who was in law enforcement, I think
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: they were much more admired back then, much less challenged
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: back then.
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: And I think now.
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: If you ever, I don't know what paper you take
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: a look at, or whether it's online or whatever, if
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: you read a lot of the arrests, A lot of
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: them come with interfering with police, which basically means you
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: resisted arrest.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: And you didn't see that a lot back then.
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: But it's a lifestyle. It's not something where you go
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: home and you take your gun and badge off and
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: sit on the couch and forget about it. It's something
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: you live. I retired, did 36 years in three different agencies.
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: The sheriff's department when I was very young, still going
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: to college. the Connecticut State Police, and then the New
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: London Police. And if people see me today, I retired
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: in 2021, you're still not looked at as Todd Lynch
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: of anything else other than a law enforcement officer.
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: And that's what people look and think of you as.
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: And you brought up suicide and how would it affect
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: your life. And I'll give you a little curveball on
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: it because, you know, I'm not one– ever to hang
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: my hat even though I saw horrible things. I literally
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: had a dog who was a patrol dog, but second
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: job was a cadaver dog to find dead bodies. I
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: was out of state with the Joel Rifkin Serial Killer
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: Task Force, and in like 31 days we found 18 bodies,
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: and not in great states. I know I've been saying
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: some things today that are probably troubling people during the
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: morning hours. But so, yeah, there's a lot of things
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: that affect you. But I was never one to hang
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: my hat on, you know, PTSD or things like that. Now,
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: I know my friends that, you know, whether it was
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: the World Trade Center or people that had to take
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: people's lives, I'm sure it affected people in different ways.
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: I just always was a strong person. Not that you
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: have to be weak to have PTSD. But I never
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: hung my hat on that. I tell you the one thing,
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: and I think people that love the job and were
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: dedicated to it like me, not that it's suicide, but
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: one thing that was very difficult was at the end
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: when you called it a career, and it was more
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: than a career. It was what you were known for,
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: what you loved. So that was one of the most
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: difficult things for me.
- 1:33:02Speaker 38: And that's analogous to the theme of suicide, but in
- 1:33:06Speaker 38: a way you're expressing that as a form of death.
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it was over.
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: It was, you know, and could I have done more? Yes, but,
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: you know, times are changing. You know, I was an
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: old school guy. The people that are listening now that
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: knew my computer skills would know that.
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: And things changed.
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: It was different, and this is nothing against the new
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: police officers, but I just found that we were much
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: closer years ago.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: Our families ate together.
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: We would have a potluck dinner once a month where
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: we'd all get together and laugh and have a beer
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: or two. After work, you'd go out and meet each other.
- 1:33:47Speaker 2: Picnics at people's houses. It was much more like a
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: family read, but I think you can see society has
- 1:33:53Speaker 2: changed a little like that too with the Internet.
- 1:33:55Speaker 38: Well, I'm 15 years older than you and Lee. And
- 1:33:59Speaker 38: I can remember as a kid, cops were brought into
- 1:34:03Speaker 38: my kindergarten and first grade classes because that was who
- 1:34:08Speaker 38: your parents and your teachers and your principal wanted you
- 1:34:11Speaker 38: to meet and respect, and there was that. And it
- 1:34:15Speaker 38: was like a joyful experience to meet a cop and
- 1:34:20Speaker 38: talk with a cop. We were grateful that they would
- 1:34:22Speaker 38: come into the school and introduce themselves And tell us
- 1:34:25Speaker 38: about what they do and so forth. It was an
- 1:34:27Speaker 38: entirely different time. And I understand exactly what you're saying,
- 1:34:33Speaker 38: how things have changed culturally just upside down. Did you
- 1:34:39Speaker 38: come from a family of cops?
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: My father was a police officer, yes.
- 1:34:43Speaker 15: Okay.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: And I grew up in an inner-city housing project, and
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: when the cop car came.
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: By, you wouldn't turn away. You wouldn't run.
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: You would go and stop the person, and, you know,
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: they'd talk to you. They'd maybe get out and throw
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: the football or, you know.
- 1:34:57Speaker 38: Yeah, it was like talking to a famous baseball player.
- 1:35:00Speaker 30: Right.
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: They'd hit the siren for you or let you sit
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: in the back of the cruiser.
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: That was, you know, the way it was.
- 1:35:07Speaker 36: Yeah.
- 1:35:07Speaker 38: No, I remember those days very clearly.
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: I appreciate it.
- 1:35:12Speaker 38: What was your retiring rank?
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: I was the commanding officer in charge of the state
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: police canine unit.
- 1:35:19Speaker 38: And you said cadaver dogs at one point.
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: Yes, I had two dogs mainly.
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: I handled nine altogether, but I had two dogs for
- 1:35:31Speaker 2: their whole career, and they were both trained in— Patrol.
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: And Search and Rescue, which is basically cadaver recovery.
- 1:35:41Speaker 40: Amazing.
- 1:35:41Speaker 38: Thank you for taking time to explain this to me.
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: I appreciate your call and I appreciate your thoughts.
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: I'm going to go back a little bit to politics
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: and get away from the death and all the other
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: things we've been talking about. We will go into the
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: Stonington Institute after the.
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: 8 o'clock break. But I just found... I listened to.
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: Sanders talk the other night, the Vermont Bernie Sanders, the
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: Vermont senator.
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: And he was talking about wealth equality.
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: And just looking at the people on the far left
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: talking about wealth equality, I'm sure there's rich on both sides,
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: but they want the wealthy people to give up their
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: money to the people that aren't wealthy. You know me
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: on this show, I've said, you know what, if you're
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: not wealthy, get a better job and you'll make some money.
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: The people that I'm not angry against anyone that's rich,
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: whether it's from your parents or you made it yourself,
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: you made it. But when someone like Bernie Sanders or
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: that Hassan.
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: Piker, that.
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: Pimple of a person, talks about wealthy quality, you know
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: what Bernie Sanders is worth? Why doesn't Bernie see he's
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: worth millions? And it seems like some of these people
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: go to the Senate and get this money when they're
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: a United States senator. How are you making that kind
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: of money as a senator? You're not making millions and
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: millions like that. That's on both sides of the aisle. But,
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: you know, and some of the people that follow the
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: far left, I like Bruce Springsteen's music.
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: But he's a far left person. I think he's got
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: a couple bucks. um, someone like Robert De Niro. I
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: think he's got a couple bucks. He's a far left person.
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: So they have rich people on their side.
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: Now I don't, in case you're eating your breakfast, put
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: it down a minute because Rosie O'Donnell is I'm sure wealthy.
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: I hope didn't wreck someone's breakfast thinking about Rosie O'Donnell,
- 1:37:48Speaker 2: but I'll give her credit.
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: She said, if he wins, she's going to leave the country.
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: She left the country.
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: I don't, I don't think, uh, any dating apps went
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: down when she left the country, but, uh, There's wealth
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: on both sides. And I've said it out there. I
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: have two pensions. I have health care for the rest
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: of my life. I told you a story that I
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: went to the ER a couple weeks ago. And if
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: that's what health care is for, for everybody going to
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: the ER, I'm all set with my health care.
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: I'm happy with what I have.
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: Because some of it, and I give the personnel their credit,
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: you go to the ER for something, pack a lunch.
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: You're there four or five hours.
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: And as you're sitting in the lobby watching some of
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: the people that are sitting around you, if that's what
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: giving everyone health care is, because a lot.
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: Of those people did.
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: I think I was the only one I think that
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: reached in the pocket to show a card that I
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: have health care. But if some of those people, not
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: all of them, were the dregs of society that I'm
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: going to have to wait in line with to give
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: everyone the same health care, my vote is to keep mine.
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: You want to give them theirs at a separate place,
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: whoever doesn't have health care and didn't make the right
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: choices in life to get that?
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: So be it.
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: But don't put me in that line because I made
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: some good choices. So with that, I hope people understand.
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: When I say about this Hassan Piker guy, how are
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: you on the far left going to sit next to
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: somebody who basically said we deserve 9-11?
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: And with that, I don't vote in Michigan.
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: When we talked about, you know, not talking about the president,
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: I'm talking about someone I'm not going to vote for.
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: But the El-Sayed guy who buddies up to someone who
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: literally hates this country, Piker. We talked about the WNBA girls,
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: don't stand for the national anthem. This guy is so
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: far left, he doesn't even like where he is. Go
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: to where you want to be. But how do you
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: run for office and then have this guy next to you,
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: shaking his hand, sitting next to you, like the Omar
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: lady from Minnesota, I think.
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: When you have to answer a question....
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: Whether you married your brother or not and have to answer,
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: not to the best of my knowledge, I didn't.
- 1:40:29Speaker 31: I have a sister.
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: I can tell you damn well I didn't marry her.
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: Hope she's not listening. That's not a shot at her.
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: But I'm going to just, I mean, some of these people,
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: it's almost like they don't like the country they're in,
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: yet they want to run for office.
- 1:40:46Speaker 13: It is scary.
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: And before we go to break, I want to read
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: something for a friend of mine and his family. And
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: it strikes both me and Lee in the heart any
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: time we talk about a dog who's sick, especially a dog.
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: And I never want to pin.
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: Police dogs, service dogs against regular pets. But anyone that
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: had a dog that served with you, a police dog
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: that rode behind you, a police dog that protected not
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: only your life but fellow officers' lives. A retired Waterford canine, Neo,
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: has a rare form of cancer. Neo served with his partner,
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: Sergeant Pat Epps, from 2017 to 2023 as both a
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: patrol canine and a narcotics canine.
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: So he's cross-trained. Unfortunately, Neo.
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: with his cancer is going through a treatment that comes
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: at a high cost. And for those of you that
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: don't know, and it's something if I ever run for office,
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: which will never happen, but if someone wins that I know,
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: maybe you can push this through. But when a canine retires,
- 1:42:01Speaker 2: the handle in their family is responsible for any future costs,
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: which anyone that knows with dogs could be immense. And
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: what I think the towns or municipalities or states should
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: chip in on that is because when these dogs are
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: done They're pretty beat up. The amount of shots they get,
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: you know, because they may or not bite somebody, and
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: the amount of wear or tear doing the job. People
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: don't realize in a pursuit or high speed, the car
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: goes left, the dog in the back goes right.
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: He doesn't know where we're turning. So they're pretty beat up.
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: But for Pat and his family, I would wish that
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: people please consider supporting Neo's fight against cancer.
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: Every donation.
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: no matter the amount, brings him one step closer to recovery.
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: To learn more or make donations, please visit the Waterford
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: Police Department Facebook page and scroll down to Harlow's Heroes
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: post where the donation link on Zephy can be found.
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: Donations for Neo can also be dropped off at the
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: Waterford Police Department. And I send my thoughts and prayers
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: to Pat and his family and especially Neo. And take
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: a minute. before this break, to listen to the words
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: of this song.
- 1:43:48Speaker 16: Still remember the day you came in. Wild eyes for
- 1:43:54Speaker 16: a fight. Ready to win. You stood right beside me.
- 1:44:02Speaker 41: No fear, no doubt.
- 1:44:05Speaker 16: From that day forward, we figured it out.
- 1:44:10Speaker 9: We ran through the fire.
- 1:44:18Speaker 28: You had my six when the whole world hurt.
- 1:44:22Speaker 19: Every mile we covered, every battle we faced.
- 1:44:27Speaker 10: You gave me your all, never.
- 1:44:28Speaker 9: Asked for.
- 1:44:32Speaker 4: A place.
- 1:44:33Speaker 31: And it feels.
- 1:44:35Speaker 28: Like heaven is far.
- 1:44:43Speaker 9: From me now.
- 1:45:04Speaker 45: Just to.
- 1:45:08Speaker 53: Have you again Gone away Gone away You still got slow.
- 1:45:19Speaker 16: Your muzzle turned gray But you still tried to lead
- 1:45:24Speaker 16: me Every damn day.
- 1:45:32Speaker 45: Told you good boy, tried not to break within.
- 1:45:37Speaker 6: Last night I sat with.
- 1:45:38Speaker 45: You, under cold stars.
- 1:45:40Speaker 28: Hand on your head, both covered in scars. You looked
- 1:45:54Speaker 28: at me calm like you already knew. I'll see you
- 1:46:13Speaker 28: next time.
- 1:46:18Speaker 4: You did your time, gave everything you had.
- 1:46:22Speaker 13: Now you're running free.
- 1:46:23Speaker 40: And I'm still proud as hell, my lad.
- 1:46:25Speaker 9: And it feels like heaven.
- 1:46:26Speaker 28: Is far from me.
- 1:46:30Speaker 4: Now that you're gone, the world feels so cold.
- 1:46:41Speaker 45: I've But I still stand.
- 1:47:14Speaker 16: Tall Cause that's what you want I.

- 1:49:58Speaker 27: News Now.
- 1:50:01Speaker 17: President Trump calls it fraud at the highest level.
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: I'm Dave Anthony, Fox News.
- 1:50:06Speaker 17: A growing controversy in Alaska over a scheme he says
- 1:50:09Speaker 17: tried to trick voters, reportedly orchestrated by Democrat Mary Peltola.
- 1:50:14Speaker 25: Removed from the ballot and prosecuted, and so should the
- 1:50:18Speaker 25: fake Dan Sullivan.
- 1:50:19Speaker 17: The New York Times reports that other Dan Sullivan, a
- 1:50:21Speaker 17: retired teacher, was put on the ballot by Democrats in
- 1:50:24Speaker 17: their campaign to unseat Republican Senator Dan Sullivan, who tells
- 1:50:27Speaker 17: Fox's Hannity.
- 1:50:28Speaker 15: Don't be confused, Alaskans.
- 1:50:30Speaker 30: Don't throw away your vote.
- 1:50:31Speaker 17: Alaska's Republican governors ordering an investigation, but Mary Peltola denies
- 1:50:35Speaker 17: the allegations, telling reporters it's... Nonsense.
- 1:50:37Speaker 7: This is all stuff to sell newspapers.
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: This is all stuff.
- 1:50:41Speaker 41: To get subscriptions.
- 1:50:43Speaker 17: Now, the president commented on that while rallying Republicans in Ohio,
- 1:50:46Speaker 17: continuing to urge voters not to let Democrats win control
- 1:50:49Speaker 17: of Congress.
- 1:50:50Speaker 25: Because we don't want to go back to where we
- 1:50:52Speaker 25: were two years ago.
- 1:50:54Speaker 17: Now, President Trump will campaign today in South Carolina, where
- 1:50:57Speaker 17: there's also a closed Senate race. Former President Obama keeps
- 1:51:00Speaker 17: campaigning for Democrats, warning against Republican distractions.
- 1:51:04Speaker 9: Attacks, fabrications.
- 1:51:08Speaker 8: Phony outrage, and hope that you won't notice that your
- 1:51:12Speaker 8: bills are higher and your life is tougher.
- 1:51:15Speaker 17: One more thing from that Trump rally last night.

- 1:57:34Speaker 2: Welcome back to 94.9 News Now. I'm Todd Lynch, subbing
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: for Lee Elsie today. Phone number is 860-464-9490. We have
- 1:57:47Speaker 2: one more hour to go to complete the day. We
- 1:57:50Speaker 2: do have a couple people on the line, but before
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: we go to the phones, I just want to say
- 1:57:54Speaker 2: if you're a dog person and that last song doesn't
- 1:57:58Speaker 2: hit you in your knees, you should go.
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: Get a cat. So we'll start out with Jan on
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: line one.
- 1:58:06Speaker 41: Good morning, Todd. I've been on hold a while, so
- 1:58:09Speaker 41: I just sort of, yes, I'm on hold when I
- 1:58:12Speaker 41: heard you mention. That's okay. You were talking about why
- 1:58:17Speaker 41: do politicians get so wealthy, and that just brings me thinking,
- 1:58:24Speaker 41: I mean, this election, Jan.
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: You're going in and out. Your phone isn't good right now.
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: You're going in and out.
- 1:58:31Speaker 41: I'm having trouble with my phone. Can you hear me now?
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: Like every other word.
- 1:58:38Speaker 41: Okay, well, I don't want to waste time.
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: You can hardly. If you want to try back, we'll
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: take the other line if you want to try back. Dan,
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: you're on.
- 1:58:50Speaker 30: Hey, what's going on, Todd?
- 1:58:51Speaker 15: How are you?
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: How are you, Dan?
- 1:58:53Speaker 30: First of all, you do a great job at this.
- 1:58:55Speaker 30: Can I say that?
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: I appreciate that.
- 1:58:56Speaker 30: Even though I might grudgingly disagree with you occasionally, which
- 1:59:00Speaker 30: is rare.
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: That's part of it, though, Dan.
- 1:59:02Speaker 6: You know what?
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: That's part of it.
- 1:59:06Speaker 30: When you were younger, you were that guy that used
- 1:59:08Speaker 30: to stir up the fights, right? You had to provoke.
- 1:59:11Speaker 30: You're a good provoker. You're a good guy. You take
- 1:59:14Speaker 30: all that, what do they call that, conflict resolution training,
- 1:59:17Speaker 30: and you put it in reverse. You get on the radio.
- 1:59:20Speaker 30: It makes good radio, I've got to tell you.
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: I appreciate it.
- 1:59:23Speaker 30: Yeah. I wanted to say that, you know, you hit
- 1:59:26Speaker 30: on a nerve for me when you talked about going
- 1:59:28Speaker 30: into the emergency room. I think we talked about that
- 1:59:31Speaker 30: the last time you were on as well. Right. And,
- 1:59:33Speaker 30: you know, when you go into the emergency room anywhere
- 1:59:36Speaker 30: on Long Island, because that's where I am, I mean,
- 1:59:40Speaker 30: it's illegal aliens that are packing the place. I mean,
- 1:59:45Speaker 30: packing it, Todd. You can go into the emergency room
- 1:59:50Speaker 30: and sit there seven or eight hours is not unheard of.
- 1:59:55Speaker 2: Like I said, Dan, we talked about it last time.
- 1:59:57Speaker 2: I haven't been, since I retired from law enforcement, 2021.
- 2:00:00Speaker 2: You know, you get hurt sometimes on the job, and
- 2:00:04Speaker 2: it's the last time I've been in the ER.
- 2:00:06Speaker 1: You are exactly right.
- 2:00:07Speaker 2: You pack a lunch, five, six hours, and you can,
- 2:00:09Speaker 2: no pun intended on looking at someone, but you can
- 2:00:12Speaker 2: tell 90% of those people are not going to have insurance.
- 2:00:17Speaker 30: Yeah, I mean, that's true. I mean, you're the first,
- 2:00:20Speaker 30: you're the only one, like, reaching for your, in your
- 2:00:22Speaker 30: pocket for ID or for money to pay for, you know, primary,
- 2:00:27Speaker 30: you know, primary visits as well.
- 2:00:29Speaker 31: 100%.
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: They don't even know where.
- 2:00:30Speaker 30: The cash drawer is in a lot of these places.
- 2:00:34Speaker 30: They're all whipping out cards.
- 2:00:35Speaker 15: You know?
- 2:00:35Speaker 1: And that doesn't mean you're going before them.
- 2:00:37Speaker 30: No, absolutely not. So I want to say, you know, like,
- 2:00:41Speaker 30: I've heard talk about, you know, the politicians and I,
- 2:00:44Speaker 30: you know, I can't, I apologize for not knowing exactly
- 2:00:48Speaker 30: which one, but they were discussing the state of politics in,
- 2:00:53Speaker 30: and I believe it was Connecticut for sure, that was
- 2:00:55Speaker 30: talking about how much money they lost because of the
- 2:01:01Speaker 30: deportation or the self-deportation of illegal aliens from the states.
- 2:01:07Speaker 30: And I want to understand, this is what I want
- 2:01:09Speaker 30: to understand, like you talk about the deportation you know,
- 2:01:13Speaker 30: the handlers of the dogs having to take the dog home,
- 2:01:17Speaker 30: you know, and then provide the health care. Right. Right.
- 2:01:20Speaker 30: For the for the animals. And like, how is it
- 2:01:22Speaker 30: possible that that's not covered? You know, you know, and
- 2:01:26Speaker 30: even though I have my gripes about, you know, the
- 2:01:30Speaker 30: grotesque abuse of, you know, what I think is pension funds.
- 2:01:33Speaker 30: But I want to get into that. You know, the
- 2:01:36Speaker 30: discussion of these of there not being resources for, you know,
- 2:01:42Speaker 30: our veterans. or our poor or our mentally ill because
- 2:01:48Speaker 30: you have, you know, 35 million illegal aliens on the
- 2:01:54Speaker 30: education rolls and on the, you know, on the medical rolls.
- 2:02:01Speaker 30: And everything that the government is trying to provide for everybody,
- 2:02:04Speaker 30: food and school lunches, and I'm just trying to do
- 2:02:09Speaker 30: the math on what 10% of the country is. It's
- 2:02:14Speaker 30: like 10% of our country now, I think, is illegal
- 2:02:18Speaker 30: and alien. And even though we have poor, you know,
- 2:02:23Speaker 30: we have American, you know, native-born poor in our country
- 2:02:27Speaker 30: that also take resources, I just wonder what it looks like,
- 2:02:34Speaker 30: you know, if that's off our rolls as a country.
- 2:02:39Speaker 30: And I know that there's a game, you know, the
- 2:02:41Speaker 30: delis make money and the insurance, whatever, makes money because
- 2:02:45Speaker 30: there's a whole economy here of people. But over and
- 2:02:49Speaker 30: over again, the voice of freedom, one of my favorite
- 2:02:52Speaker 30: people on the planet, vote, don't forget to vote for him,
- 2:02:56Speaker 30: has pointed out what the net contribution is from an
- 2:03:02Speaker 30: illegal alien family versus the net taking from the system.
- 2:03:07Speaker 30: And it's grotesquely lopsided. And what I can't understand about
- 2:03:12Speaker 30: a state like Connecticut, it's the same thing with New York.
- 2:03:15Speaker 30: It's all through New England. They run these third-world kind
- 2:03:19Speaker 30: of flop houses, these hotels that look like little slices
- 2:03:23Speaker 30: of Port-au-Prince or whatever. you know, these other places where,
- 2:03:27Speaker 30: you know, it's like a slum. They're, like, turning into
- 2:03:29Speaker 30: these slums, these clusters of hotels, and we're paying for
- 2:03:32Speaker 30: all of it. Like, we are paying for all of it.
- 2:03:35Speaker 30: And then you go to your tax bill, and they'll
- 2:03:37Speaker 30: raise it up 35% in a year, right, without batting
- 2:03:42Speaker 30: an eye and just tell you, oh, we got things
- 2:03:44Speaker 30: to cover because of Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump.
- 2:03:47Speaker 15: And then.
- 2:03:50Speaker 30: They have the stones to point to eggs, right?
- 2:03:53Speaker 40: And say, look at the price of eggs.
- 2:03:55Speaker 31: It's up a dollar.
- 2:03:57Speaker 30: Okay, if I buy a dozen a week and the
- 2:03:59Speaker 30: price of eggs is up a dollar, it's $ 50, people.
- 2:04:03Speaker 30: Your tax bill could go up $ 1, 000, $ 1, 500 in a
- 2:04:07Speaker 30: year versus $ 50. You've got your politicians are standing there
- 2:04:12Speaker 30: defending one of the biggest scams in the whole wide
- 2:04:15Speaker 30: world with this illegal, you know, like they talk about
- 2:04:18Speaker 30: the loss of of revenue to the state because illegals
- 2:04:23Speaker 30: are getting deported. And what is the basis of that
- 2:04:27Speaker 30: economy that we have where that's actually the consideration? Trump
- 2:04:32Speaker 30: is deporting illegals, so they're off the Medicaid rolls. And
- 2:04:35Speaker 30: this is why this is, you know, go back to
- 2:04:38Speaker 30: your other point about the assisted suicide. And you made
- 2:04:41Speaker 30: a very good point. Like, I'm against it because thou
- 2:04:43Speaker 30: shalt not kill. I think that covers everything. You know,
- 2:04:46Speaker 30: don't kill yourself either. That's how I feel about it personally.
- 2:04:50Speaker 30: I don't grudge other people for making decisions like that,
- 2:04:54Speaker 30: but they have to be making the decisions. We are
- 2:04:56Speaker 30: in the terrifying position where it's not us that are
- 2:05:00Speaker 30: making the decisions about that. It's the medical system run
- 2:05:05Speaker 30: by the government that's deciding you're not worth the money.
- 2:05:08Speaker 30: Look at Canada. They are giving out more assisted suicide.
- 2:05:12Speaker 30: You get a toothache in Canada, you're like, oh, I
- 2:05:14Speaker 30: have a toothache. And it's, oh, it's three months till
- 2:05:17Speaker 30: I can see a dentist. I have to have a toothache.
- 2:05:19Speaker 30: But we do have assisted suicide if it gets too
- 2:05:21Speaker 30: bad for you. In other words, it's cheaper to just
- 2:05:24Speaker 30: put you down than it is to care for you.
- 2:05:28Speaker 30: And that's where we're headed. And the problem is not
- 2:05:31Speaker 30: really the assisted suicide as much as it is the
- 2:05:34Speaker 30: government-run health care. They shouldn't be the ones deciding whether
- 2:05:38Speaker 30: you're worth saving, whether you're worth getting a treatment or not.
- 2:05:41Speaker 30: And it's because we're covering people that don't even put
- 2:05:45Speaker 30: one dime in but just take out $ 100, 000 a year
- 2:05:48Speaker 30: out of the system and don't put anything in. We've
- 2:05:51Speaker 30: got to do something about that, man. You've got to
- 2:05:53Speaker 30: vote these people out that are enabling... this type of
- 2:05:59Speaker 30: a system of illegal migration. It's not good for the country.
- 2:06:03Speaker 2: I totally agree, and you bring up a tremendous point.
- 2:06:07Speaker 2: Do you hear the people that are protesting in parks
- 2:06:10Speaker 2: and in different spots, holding up the signs, backing immigrants
- 2:06:14Speaker 2: and all that? Do you see any of those helping
- 2:06:17Speaker 2: out our veterans? The people that came from here and
- 2:06:20Speaker 2: fought for us, and we have freedom because of them.
- 2:06:25Speaker 1: They're like second-class citizens behind immigrants.
- 2:06:28Speaker 30: Todd, we had a No Kings rally over here in
- 2:06:30Speaker 30: East Hampton, and they stabbed signs up all over this
- 2:06:33Speaker 30: beautiful park we have in town. There's like six of them.
- 2:06:36Speaker 30: And they put signs all around to make it look
- 2:06:38Speaker 30: like there was more of them than there were, but
- 2:06:39Speaker 30: there's only like six people. Like, to your point before,
- 2:06:41Speaker 30: there was 15, I think, when you passed them in
- 2:06:43Speaker 30: New London. And the news media covers it like it's
- 2:06:47Speaker 30: the greatest thing that ever happened, like it's Woodstock, you know?
- 2:06:52Speaker 16: But.
- 2:06:54Speaker 30: These people were set up there, and some woman, God
- 2:06:56Speaker 30: bless her, got out and started pulling the signs out
- 2:06:59Speaker 30: of the ground. You know, you can stand there and
- 2:07:02Speaker 30: carry a sign.
- 2:07:03Speaker 31: But you can't stake out the whole park.
- 2:07:05Speaker 30: With all your nonsense and your signs. She started taking
- 2:07:08Speaker 30: them out and confronted them and said, look, you know,
- 2:07:10Speaker 30: this is a beautiful park. We don't want you here.
- 2:07:13Speaker 30: But I rolled back.
- 2:07:14Speaker 31: It just happened.
- 2:07:14Speaker 30: I was in traffic passing by slow. And I have
- 2:07:17Speaker 30: to say, the first woman I came to wasn't a woman.
- 2:07:23Speaker 30: I was like it was like a dude, you know,
- 2:07:25Speaker 30: masquerading as a woman. And then the next one was
- 2:07:28Speaker 30: also like kind of gender bent. And then the next
- 2:07:31Speaker 30: and it was like one guy clearly was a guy.
- 2:07:34Speaker 30: And the other one was one that was clearly a woman,
- 2:07:36Speaker 30: even though she had a sign in front of her face.
- 2:07:38Speaker 30: But but four out of six were trans people like
- 2:07:43Speaker 30: standing out there with the no king signs. That's the
- 2:07:47Speaker 30: representation of that side of the aisle? What are the chances, statistically,
- 2:07:53Speaker 30: that if you just pulled randomly six people out of
- 2:07:55Speaker 30: your town, that that would be the strata of person
- 2:07:59Speaker 30: that you have? there at the protest?
- 2:08:03Speaker 2: I don't want to steal from you, but can I
- 2:08:05Speaker 2: use your phrase of gender bent? I think that was
- 2:08:07Speaker 2: one of the best ones we've heard.
- 2:08:09Speaker 30: Absolutely. I just wanted to say this is the far
- 2:08:15Speaker 30: left I think we're against. And I used to say
- 2:08:18Speaker 30: to myself, Todd, you know, I used to say if
- 2:08:21Speaker 30: anything went wrong in this country, like I would run
- 2:08:25Speaker 30: over to Canada. Like, you know, people used to say that, like, oh,
- 2:08:27Speaker 30: if America went belly up.
- 2:08:29Speaker 15: But, man, did you.
- 2:08:30Speaker 30: See what happened during COVID?
- 2:08:33Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 2:08:33Speaker 30: That was like a leftist communist dictatorship over there. And
- 2:08:36Speaker 30: can I say something? Man, New York was not far
- 2:08:40Speaker 30: behind it. It was a huge eye opener to me.
- 2:08:43Speaker 30: with ID cards and the forced vaccinations that they were
- 2:08:48Speaker 30: proposing and relocation of people. You'd get a message on
- 2:08:53Speaker 30: your phone. If you walked into an area, you'd get
- 2:08:55Speaker 30: a message on your phone that said, you know, like, warning,
- 2:08:57Speaker 30: there's too many people in this parking lot. You have
- 2:09:01Speaker 30: to disperse. It was like, what is going on here?
- 2:09:04Speaker 30: What is going on with this country, you know? We
- 2:09:08Speaker 30: got to never again have any kind of closed shutdowns
- 2:09:13Speaker 30: or anything else like that. When you're looking at politicians
- 2:09:16Speaker 30: and you're looking up there and they got you all
- 2:09:18Speaker 30: worked up over a gallon of milk, right? Just remember, lockdowns,
- 2:09:24Speaker 30: shutdown businesses, The theft of money, the suitcases of Somalian
- 2:09:29Speaker 30: fraud money that went out of Minnesota, the grifts that
- 2:09:32Speaker 30: are going on inside the state hospitals in our states,
- 2:09:35Speaker 30: the state colleges that are going on inside of our states,
- 2:09:38Speaker 30: the anti-Semitism. This is what's going on on the other
- 2:09:44Speaker 30: side of the aisle. I have to tell you, we've
- 2:09:46Speaker 30: got to vote for some, even if it's independents like
- 2:09:49Speaker 30: you are, Todd. You said sometimes you vote for... A Democrat,
- 2:09:52Speaker 30: sometimes you vote for an independent. You know, maybe you
- 2:09:55Speaker 30: mostly vote Republican. I'm not sure how you vote. But
- 2:09:57Speaker 30: you have to, like, take an assessment and vote. You know,
- 2:10:01Speaker 30: you can't just be like, oh, milk is $ 4 for
- 2:10:03Speaker 30: a half gallon. I got to vote Democrat. You're going
- 2:10:06Speaker 30: to throw the whole country down the toilet because milk
- 2:10:09Speaker 30: is up 85 cents? Like, come on, people.
- 2:10:13Speaker 2: I appreciate it, and we've got another call, but I'm
- 2:10:16Speaker 2: going to tell you, yes, I'm an independent. I used
- 2:10:19Speaker 2: to vote Democrat, Republican, but as an independent, and I've
- 2:10:24Speaker 2: said this before, the Democrats are driving people like me
- 2:10:30Speaker 2: to the right. They're driving us that way. And with that, Jan,
- 2:10:34Speaker 2: I hope we can hear you this time.
- 2:10:37Speaker 41: Okay, can you hear me now?
- 2:10:38Speaker 15: Perfect.
- 2:10:39Speaker 41: It's like a commercial. Oh, thank you. So, before, when
- 2:10:44Speaker 41: you were talking about people getting rich in office, and
- 2:10:47Speaker 41: that happens on both sides, as you pointed out, and
- 2:10:51Speaker 41: Bernie Sanders, I think, probably told everyone, hey, we're all millionaires.
- 2:10:56Speaker 41: We better start complaining about billionaires, or they're going to
- 2:10:59Speaker 41: come after us. But I was looking at Ann Santoro's
- 2:11:05Speaker 41: card that came through the mail, and finally... She pointed
- 2:11:09Speaker 41: out Nick Menapace's record, which I had hoped to go
- 2:11:13Speaker 41: over yesterday. And I don't think this is a negative ad.
- 2:11:17Speaker 41: I think when you point out character in a candidate,
- 2:11:23Speaker 41: it's important. And I'm wondering why the Democrats, I mean,
- 2:11:28Speaker 41: they were going to run Swalwell, look like he was
- 2:11:31Speaker 41: in the bullpen for running for president. And he had
- 2:11:36Speaker 41: decades of abuse in his record. And Graham Plattner won
- 2:11:43Speaker 41: the primary in, I think it was Senatorial, right?
- 2:11:48Speaker 1: Senate in Maine. Yeah, Senate in Maine.
- 2:11:50Speaker 41: Yeah, yeah, but I'm thinking it was the Senatorial or
- 2:11:53Speaker 41: the House. But anyway.
- 2:11:54Speaker 1: Senate.
- 2:11:55Speaker 41: He had a long history of saying... I mean, people
- 2:12:00Speaker 41: don't like mean tweets. This guy's talking about how he's
- 2:12:03Speaker 41: going to rape men to show them that he's in charge.
- 2:12:06Speaker 28: I mean.
- 2:12:07Speaker 41: This is the people they're running. Now, I'm not saying
- 2:12:10Speaker 41: Nick Minipace is in that level, but he's done some
- 2:12:14Speaker 41: pretty bad things, and yet they're running and they take
- 2:12:16Speaker 41: pictures of him locally. But I just want to repeat
- 2:12:20Speaker 41: it again. Now, he was in violation of NORD's school policies.
- 2:12:28Speaker 41: He was on administrative leave from the school system. He
- 2:12:35Speaker 41: made that fearless TikTok upload against Greg Howard, and let's see.
- 2:12:45Speaker 1: That's when he lost me, when he went against Greg.
- 2:12:48Speaker 41: Pardon me?
- 2:12:49Speaker 2: That's when he went against, when he went after Greg,
- 2:12:52Speaker 2: it was ridiculous.
- 2:12:54Speaker 41: Right, it was ridiculous. I'm just looking at this as
- 2:12:58Speaker 41: we talk. I'm trying to pick out stuff. He resigned
- 2:13:02Speaker 41: from his school position after being in administrative leave. He
- 2:13:09Speaker 41: got in trouble for mistreating a staffer in some way.
- 2:13:13Speaker 41: But he is excusing saying he wanted to punch a
- 2:13:16Speaker 41: female legislator in the face because he said he didn't
- 2:13:21Speaker 41: make it directly to her.
- 2:13:24Speaker 1: Jan, if you ever saw him, I'd put my money
- 2:13:26Speaker 1: on the female legislator.
- 2:13:28Speaker 31: Well, okay.
- 2:13:30Speaker 41: I see him all the time. So I'm from Eastline.
- 2:13:33Speaker 41: So I wanted to ask you as a police officer,
- 2:13:36Speaker 41: if you got a call from a bystander or from
- 2:13:42Speaker 41: a woman who said, the man walking there near me
- 2:13:46Speaker 41: said he wants to punch me in the face. He
- 2:13:48Speaker 41: didn't say it to me directly, but he's talking about
- 2:13:51Speaker 41: punching me in the face, and I'm afraid. What would
- 2:13:53Speaker 41: you do as a police officer?
- 2:13:55Speaker 2: Well, you have to take the totality. I mean, are
- 2:13:57Speaker 2: there any witnesses? You get a statement from the person.
- 2:14:01Speaker 41: Well, let's say there's witnesses because he does have witnesses.
- 2:14:04Speaker 2: If there's witnesses, you get it down in statement form
- 2:14:07Speaker 2: in writing, and if you have enough probable cause to
- 2:14:09Speaker 2: arrest him, then.
- 2:14:10Speaker 1: You make an arrest.
- 2:14:12Speaker 36: Okay.
- 2:14:13Speaker 1: All right.
- 2:14:14Speaker 2: A third-party non-involved witness, in other words, he's not with
- 2:14:19Speaker 2: the victim, doesn't know the victim, just someone in the area,
- 2:14:22Speaker 2: is substantial.
- 2:14:25Speaker 5: Right.
- 2:14:26Speaker 31: Okay.
- 2:14:27Speaker 41: So I'm not sure who was with her. I think
- 2:14:29Speaker 41: they were coming out of the Capitol building. But my
- 2:14:34Speaker 41: point being that you would come and check it out, right?
- 2:14:38Speaker 6: Oh, absolutely.
- 2:14:39Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 2:14:41Speaker 41: Right.
- 2:14:43Speaker 1: Especially a man on a female. I mean, come on.
- 2:14:46Speaker 41: Yeah. I mean, as a woman, that's a threat. Every
- 2:14:49Speaker 41: woman knows that. And, you know, so my question is,
- 2:14:55Speaker 41: Why in the world are the Democrats sticking with somebody
- 2:15:00Speaker 41: with this history? You know, he loses his job. We're
- 2:15:03Speaker 41: not sure why. Well, he's on leave and he quit.
- 2:15:08Speaker 41: He has to apologize to staffers for whatever he did.
- 2:15:12Speaker 41: He's up at night, you know, making scurrilous, libelous TikTok reels,
- 2:15:20Speaker 41: whatever you call them. And he has threatened to punch
- 2:15:24Speaker 41: a woman in the face, and yet this is who
- 2:15:27Speaker 41: they run. The only thing I can figure is, you know,
- 2:15:30Speaker 41: Nick is useful. He votes the party's way every time.
- 2:15:35Speaker 41: And the party is, look what the people they're putting up,
- 2:15:39Speaker 41: look what they're doing in Alaska. And I have a
- 2:15:43Speaker 41: friend who happily told me, I voted and I voted
- 2:15:47Speaker 41: straight Democrat, and she I'm like, okay, whatever. She goes,
- 2:15:51Speaker 41: I voted against my mayor. It's a small town, even
- 2:15:54Speaker 41: though he's doing a good job because he's Republican. And
- 2:15:58Speaker 41: I said, what are you accomplishing with that? Well, I'm
- 2:16:02Speaker 41: sending a message to the Republican. I said, do you
- 2:16:04Speaker 41: think Donald Trump's going to know about that little race?
- 2:16:11Speaker 41: Are you really going to hurt your town? Get rid
- 2:16:15Speaker 41: of somebody doing a good job?
- 2:16:17Speaker 61: She said, yes.
- 2:16:18Speaker 1: I said that in the beginning of the show, Jan.
- 2:16:20Speaker 1: I'm an independent.
- 2:16:21Speaker 2: I vote for who I think is going to do
- 2:16:23Speaker 2: best for me and my family, and I stick by it,
- 2:16:26Speaker 2: and I appreciate the call.
- 2:16:29Speaker 1: We'll be right back.
- 2:16:35Speaker 58: Dust on my boots from a road I built alone
- 2:16:41Speaker 58: Every step I take, they whisper through the stone They
- 2:16:47Speaker 58: talk bad about me around the fire at night.
- 2:16:51Speaker 7: Traffic Alert on 94.9 News Now.
- 2:16:54Speaker 8: In New London, stop and go traffic I-95 northbound. Road
- 2:16:59Speaker 8: construction continues on.
- 2:17:00Speaker 1: The Gold Star Bridge.
- 2:17:02Speaker 8: Slow pockets of traffic in both directions on Route 12
- 2:17:06Speaker 8: in Groton. Route 32 slow in both directions between the
- 2:17:10Speaker 8: Coast Guard Academy and Connecticut College. Slow in both directions
- 2:17:15Speaker 8: in Quaker Hill and slow northbound in Montville.
- 2:17:19Speaker 29: No delays on I-395.
- 2:17:20Speaker 8: I'm Eddie Schaefer, Time Saver Traffic.
- 2:17:26Speaker 20: It's Hugh Hewitt here with Ken and Nick Tumalo, hosts
- 2:17:29Speaker 20: of Tumalo Financial Radio, Sundays on 94.9. Guys, why do
- 2:17:34Speaker 20: taxes get overlooked in retirement planning?
- 2:17:36Speaker 62: Because the tax code is so complicated. You look at it,
- 2:17:39Speaker 62: the 401k is pre-tax money. The Roth is tax-free. Your
- 2:17:42Speaker 62: non-retirement accounts are capital gains, dividends, and interest.
- 2:17:45Speaker 6: Your Social Security is.
- 2:17:46Speaker 1: Taxed by provisional income.
- 2:17:47Speaker 6: I'm giving you all these things and you're probably already confused.
- 2:17:50Speaker 62: That's why you want to build out that two-month retirement
- 2:17:52Speaker 62: checkup to see short, first long-term effects on these type
- 2:17:56Speaker 62: of things because you never know. You might have been
- 2:17:58Speaker 62: saving well in those foreign K's and you might have
- 2:18:00Speaker 62: a required minimum distribution issue at 73 or 75, depending
- 2:18:04Speaker 62: on year of birth. So you really don't want to
- 2:18:06Speaker 62: look at it just on a one year basis. Oh, yeah,
- 2:18:08Speaker 62: I'm going to do a Roth conversion this year. It's
- 2:18:10Speaker 62: going to take care of everything. No planning takes year
- 2:18:13Speaker 62: over year on tax planning. You can't just do it
- 2:18:15Speaker 62: in one year.
- 2:18:16Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 2:18:16Speaker 61: And one of the biggest things that we did find
- 2:18:18Speaker 61: with tax planning, especially for our listeners, was that it
- 2:18:21Speaker 61: has to be done over multiple years to actually gain
- 2:18:24Speaker 61: an advantage. So it's not that simple where you just
- 2:18:26Speaker 61: make one change in one year. A lot of times
- 2:18:28Speaker 61: it's the planning piece of it. And when we do
- 2:18:30Speaker 61: our two-month financial retirement checkup, it actually looks like a
- 2:18:33Speaker 61: big spreadsheet and it shows the numbers over a whole
- 2:18:36Speaker 61: bunch of years. We like to go out 24, even
- 2:18:38Speaker 61: 30 years at times when we're projecting out. Because if
- 2:18:40Speaker 61: we can pick up on some of these tax things
- 2:18:43Speaker 61: and then start to implement strategies, then what we can
- 2:18:45Speaker 61: do is put in front of you, the listeners, we
- 2:18:47Speaker 61: can put in front of them where they would save
- 2:18:49Speaker 61: money in taxes and how much over time. So it
- 2:18:51Speaker 61: starts with that Tumalo Financial Retirement Checkup, our number, 860-854-3434.

- 2:26:31Speaker 2: Welcome back to 94.9 News Now. I'm Todd Lynch sitting
- 2:26:34Speaker 2: in for Lee Elsie. I'll give the number out, but
- 2:26:37Speaker 2: I think the board may be stacked until the end
- 2:26:41Speaker 2: of the show at 9 o'clock, 860-464-9490. And up next,
- 2:26:43Speaker 2: my man, My brother from another mother. Cliff from Waterbury.
- 2:26:55Speaker 31: Hey, how's it going?
- 2:26:56Speaker 40: Good to hear your voice.
- 2:26:56Speaker 1: You also, Cliff.
- 2:26:58Speaker 31: Hey, listen, though. Much respect down to Lee. He's running
- 2:27:02Speaker 31: for office. I miss him. Be glad when he gets back.
- 2:27:04Speaker 1: Hey, Cliff. What about me?
- 2:27:09Speaker 31: No, you're doing an excellent job.
- 2:27:10Speaker 9: All right.
- 2:27:11Speaker 1: I appreciate it.
- 2:27:11Speaker 31: Oh, man, you're the best. You know, between you and Lee,
- 2:27:14Speaker 31: you're a great... Back up.
- 2:27:16Speaker 2: I see you called late at 8.30. It's just because
- 2:27:18Speaker 2: you firemen sleep at work?
- 2:27:19Speaker 1: Is that what? You're taking a nap?
- 2:27:21Speaker 30: Yeah, right.
- 2:27:23Speaker 15: You're absolutely right.
- 2:27:24Speaker 6: What do you got?
- 2:27:25Speaker 1: What do you got, my friend?
- 2:27:26Speaker 31: Okay, all right, listen.
- 2:27:27Speaker 40: Me and you, man to man, okay?
- 2:27:29Speaker 31: Now, just piggybacking off of Dan in terms of transgender
- 2:27:32Speaker 31: and the LGBTQ and all that, so the Republican Party
- 2:27:37Speaker 31: claims that they're more religious and righteous out of the two, right,
- 2:27:41Speaker 31: particularly with those two issues, transgender, you know, gay, lesbian,
- 2:27:45Speaker 31: the whole nine yards, okay? Now, however, you got Trump, right?
- 2:27:50Speaker 31: Trump is on this campaign, and then he goes and
- 2:27:54Speaker 31: he's campaigning for this guy, Huss. I believe his name's John,
- 2:27:58Speaker 31: Senator John Huss. So now he wants to talk about
- 2:28:01Speaker 31: his ass. Can I say that?
- 2:28:04Speaker 1: You just did.
- 2:28:05Speaker 31: Okay. So the guy says, man, oh, this guy is great. Oh, man, geez,
- 2:28:10Speaker 31: he's a real stud. I'm looking at his hands, his thighs,
- 2:28:14Speaker 31: his neck, you know, and I go and touch his shoulder.
- 2:28:17Speaker 31: So he's saying this publicly. I'm like, yo, man, what
- 2:28:20Speaker 31: the hell is this guy doing? So he's all just
- 2:28:22Speaker 31: a great guy. Yeah, yeah, what a nice ass. It's okay.
- 2:28:26Speaker 31: So he doesn't stop. So now you got Nicki Minaj, right?
- 2:28:29Speaker 31: So she comes up, oh, I love him. We all
- 2:28:31Speaker 31: vote for Trump the whole nine yards. So he turns
- 2:28:34Speaker 31: around and goes, wow, that's a beautiful ass. What is
- 2:28:37Speaker 31: up with this guy? You want to talk about morals
- 2:28:40Speaker 31: and values. So now, here's the last part.
- 2:28:44Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 2:28:45Speaker 31: Now he meets with a bunch of priests, right?
- 2:28:47Speaker 15: They come to his office.
- 2:28:48Speaker 31: They sincerely want to pray for him the whole nine yards.
- 2:28:51Speaker 31: So now they get mad at him because he takes
- 2:28:53Speaker 31: this and then he publicizes it. And so these priests
- 2:28:56Speaker 31: are quite supporting him. You know what I mean? And like, yeah, these,
- 2:29:00Speaker 31: you know, the priests are really supporting me. And that
- 2:29:02Speaker 31: wasn't the intent at all. So this guy managed to unhinge.
- 2:29:05Speaker 31: So there's no question, to me, he's in the Epstein files.
- 2:29:10Speaker 31: This guy is crazy. He talks about men. He talks about,
- 2:29:14Speaker 31: now what he talk about a white woman's ass. Matter
- 2:29:16Speaker 31: of fact, would he talk about his wife's ass like that?
- 2:29:19Speaker 31: What is that with him? What's up with him? And everybody,
- 2:29:22Speaker 31: Republicans don't have a problem with it. That's the funny part.
- 2:29:26Speaker 31: Nobody has a problem with that. So you want to
- 2:29:28Speaker 31: talk about morals and value. You know, you expect that
- 2:29:31Speaker 31: coming from your president to have some type of character.
- 2:29:34Speaker 31: This guy's an inch.
- 2:29:37Speaker 1: You know what, Cliff? You'll be shocked. I don't disagree
- 2:29:39Speaker 1: with you. I think some of it is not presidential.
- 2:29:42Speaker 4: Not at all.
- 2:29:43Speaker 1: But you know what? Neither was Bill Clinton.
- 2:29:45Speaker 2: Were you screaming at that with Bill Clinton?
- 2:29:47Speaker 5: No, you're right.
- 2:29:48Speaker 13: Okay.
- 2:29:49Speaker 1: As long as we can agree.
- 2:29:50Speaker 31: So the same thing. You know, I totally agree. So
- 2:29:53Speaker 31: have some character when you were the president and, you know.
- 2:29:56Speaker 15: You're running this country.
- 2:29:58Speaker 31: Show and display some morals, some values, right? Because you're
- 2:30:02Speaker 31: a role model, supposedly.
- 2:30:04Speaker 1: Cliff, it may be into my third hour. I may
- 2:30:06Speaker 1: be getting lightheaded, but I agree with you.
- 2:30:08Speaker 31: All right, man. Good talking to you.
- 2:30:10Speaker 1: I appreciate you, Cliff.
- 2:30:11Speaker 2: I'll see you after the holidays.
- 2:30:14Speaker 1: We're going to go next to Mike in New London.
- 2:30:17Speaker 15: Hello.
- 2:30:17Speaker 40: Thanks for taking my call, Todd. I hear you talk
- 2:30:21Speaker 40: about New London, and then it trails off. But I
- 2:30:25Speaker 40: got a couple things for you about the one that
- 2:30:27Speaker 40: I'd like to have a few answers to. And you
- 2:30:30Speaker 40: might know them. Years ago, we'll start with the police department.
- 2:30:37Speaker 40: We had a guy by the name of Frank Driscoll,
- 2:30:39Speaker 40: very frugal city manager. Our taxes were a lot lower.
- 2:30:44Speaker 40: We had more people at the police department. We had
- 2:30:47Speaker 40: over 100, I believe. And we did well. Well, the
- 2:30:52Speaker 40: fire department had quite a few firehouses. They closed a few.
- 2:30:57Speaker 40: And we can't seem to get the police back on.
- 2:31:02Speaker 40: We spend money in the city on other things we
- 2:31:05Speaker 40: find money for. But why don't we stop some of
- 2:31:08Speaker 40: the spending, like all these houses we're putting up and
- 2:31:12Speaker 40: these apartment buildings? Granted, don't get me wrong, people have
- 2:31:15Speaker 40: to live. And I understand this. But why do we
- 2:31:19Speaker 40: give them all these tax breaks? If these guys are
- 2:31:21Speaker 40: so good, why can't they put some of their own
- 2:31:25Speaker 40: money in there, a lot of it? Why should we
- 2:31:28Speaker 40: have to be penalized? Now, with all this new housing
- 2:31:31Speaker 40: and all these buildings we're putting up, our fire department's
- 2:31:34Speaker 40: not getting any bigger. We still have three pumper trucks,
- 2:31:39Speaker 40: and one ladder truck used to be two ladder trucks.
- 2:31:42Speaker 40: We only have one in service. I'd just like to
- 2:31:47Speaker 40: know from you later on, why our fire department is
- 2:31:51Speaker 40: getting smaller. We rely too much on Waterford.
- 2:31:57Speaker 2: I can't answer the question about the fire department. I
- 2:32:00Speaker 2: don't know too much about it on its size. I
- 2:32:02Speaker 2: can tell you the police department, under the city administration,
- 2:32:09Speaker 2: I don't mean just the mayor's office, but the way
- 2:32:11Speaker 2: the city works now, and you've been in the city
- 2:32:13Speaker 2: a lot longer than.
- 2:32:14Speaker 1: Me, the respect.
- 2:32:16Speaker 2: and the dignity, the way the police officers are treated,
- 2:32:19Speaker 2: they're going to go somewhere else to work.
- 2:32:20Speaker 40: Well, that's already been proven.
- 2:32:22Speaker 1: They are going other places.
- 2:32:24Speaker 2: And when you know which chief ran about 40-plus out
- 2:32:27Speaker 2: of there, nobody said boo about it except for the
- 2:32:30Speaker 2: police union. And all those people are thriving in other
- 2:32:34Speaker 2: police departments. And, you know, sometimes the far left wants
- 2:32:38Speaker 2: to attack public safety, you know, defund the police.
- 2:32:42Speaker 1: They marched on our city headquarters. And you know what?
- 2:32:45Speaker 1: At some point, the cops are going to say, you know,
- 2:32:47Speaker 1: I'm going to go somewhere else.
- 2:32:49Speaker 40: Well, the cops, you know, when we were growing up
- 2:32:53Speaker 40: and my father told me when he was a kid,
- 2:32:55Speaker 40: you saw a cop coming down the street. You came
- 2:32:57Speaker 40: down for respect. If you have a problem with a cop,
- 2:33:03Speaker 40: go to the station, air it out.
- 2:33:05Speaker 2: And I'll tell you something I'm sure that you know.
- 2:33:07Speaker 2: because I know you're on top of what happens in
- 2:33:09Speaker 2: New London. New London just took their finance director, created
- 2:33:14Speaker 2: a new position, which went from $ 175, 000 to $ 200, 000. Now
- 2:33:19Speaker 2: that's a $ 25, 000 pay increase. And now they not only
- 2:33:25Speaker 2: gave him that new job, now they have to replace
- 2:33:28Speaker 2: his old job. So when you talk about funds, that's
- 2:33:32Speaker 2: where the funds are going. And the scary part is,
- 2:33:35Speaker 2: and I don't know Mr. McBride well, he's now going
- 2:33:38Speaker 2: to be in charge of bargaining the contracts against the union.
- 2:33:41Speaker 1: Here's a guy who just got a $ 25, 000 pay cut.
- 2:33:43Speaker 2: What are you going to tell the cops in firemen?
- 2:33:46Speaker 1: You're going to get zero?
- 2:33:48Speaker 40: But, you know, the firemen also, I respect them a lot, too,
- 2:33:51Speaker 40: and I love our fire department. I think we had
- 2:33:53Speaker 40: a great one years ago, and maybe even now. But
- 2:33:57Speaker 40: we should have our own fire apparatus. We still rely
- 2:34:02Speaker 40: on one of it.
- 2:34:03Speaker 1: Quite a bit. Quite a bit.
- 2:34:05Speaker 40: And that's not right.
- 2:34:06Speaker 30: I mean.
- 2:34:07Speaker 40: I'm a citizen in New Orleans. Why should I have to?
- 2:34:09Speaker 40: God forbid I don't need one. I hope I don't.
- 2:34:12Speaker 40: But why should we have to wait for a Waterford
- 2:34:15Speaker 40: ambulance to come into New Orleans to take care of me?
- 2:34:18Speaker 40: I mean, I'm a taxpayer in New Orleans.
- 2:34:21Speaker 1: Very well put.
- 2:34:23Speaker 40: And in all honesty, we only got three pumper trucks.
- 2:34:27Speaker 40: We need another firehouse. You got three trucks. God forbid
- 2:34:31Speaker 40: one doesn't break down. And so when there's a fire,
- 2:34:34Speaker 40: right away we got to call Waterford, Groton. one of
- 2:34:38Speaker 40: it doesn't call us, but once every blue moon, because
- 2:34:43Speaker 40: that's smart. They got their shit together. Excuse me, but, uh, okay.
- 2:34:51Speaker 2: Unfortunately, uh, we lost that call. Um, I just want
- 2:34:55Speaker 2: to touch base on the Stonington incident before we wrap
- 2:34:59Speaker 2: it up here. And again, I say out there, Mike,
- 2:35:03Speaker 2: tomorrow's my friend. We can disagree on things, but, um,
- 2:35:07Speaker 2: I don't know, and I have great respect for the
- 2:35:09Speaker 2: two people that I heard from in this, my friend
- 2:35:15Speaker 2: Juan Roman and my friend Troy McKelvin. And I agree
- 2:35:18Speaker 2: with what Troy said, that an adult probably shouldn't be
- 2:35:24Speaker 2: yelling down to kids on a field.
- 2:35:26Speaker 1: I get it.
- 2:35:27Speaker 2: But I also am 100% behind Juan where just yelling
- 2:35:31Speaker 2: out the word animals shouldn't be pushed into a racist
- 2:35:35Speaker 2: corner when– There's no reason to do so. Now, again,
- 2:35:39Speaker 2: without naming the individual. Now, they said in one of
- 2:35:43Speaker 2: the articles that three people said who it was.
- 2:35:46Speaker 1: I can't confirm who it was.
- 2:35:49Speaker 2: But if you're going to make it a racist issue,
- 2:35:53Speaker 2: I'd like to ask the person, what did you mean
- 2:35:55Speaker 2: by that? I use the word animal, animals today to
- 2:36:01Speaker 2: describe people. I believe Juan used the word animals to
- 2:36:04Speaker 2: describe people. And neither of those were racist. Juan said
- 2:36:11Speaker 2: it about his daughter played basketball that way. I said
- 2:36:14Speaker 2: it about people that killed the Pettits, who are both white.
- 2:36:18Speaker 2: So you can use the word and not push it
- 2:36:22Speaker 2: into a racist corner. And I had said before that.
- 2:36:30Speaker 2: At the very least, I would have hoped that Stonington,
- 2:36:33Speaker 2: and I know they didn't want to identify the person,
- 2:36:35Speaker 2: and I understand if he's a parent of a child
- 2:36:37Speaker 2: that still goes there, but they said in the last
- 2:36:40Speaker 2: article that there were sanctions. At least maybe publicize what
- 2:36:46Speaker 2: the sanctions were, because if it was wrong, what was done, okay,
- 2:36:50Speaker 2: this is what we did to correct the problem. But
- 2:36:53Speaker 2: to say nothing about it and paint it into a
- 2:36:58Speaker 2: racist corner... I think is very problematic. And I respect
- 2:37:03Speaker 2: everyone's opinion. Just because I'm saying one thing and someone
- 2:37:07Speaker 2: else is saying something different doesn't mean I'm right, doesn't
- 2:37:10Speaker 2: mean they're right. I just hate, especially with my law
- 2:37:14Speaker 2: enforcement background, it appears, at least in today's world, that
- 2:37:20Speaker 2: a white police officer shoots a black suspect and it's
- 2:37:24Speaker 2: automatically racist. And I don't want to expand that. to
- 2:37:30Speaker 2: someone yells something. Now, and I've talked to other people,
- 2:37:34Speaker 2: including Lee, about this. There are words that could have
- 2:37:37Speaker 2: been said that you said, oh, no, you crossed the line.
- 2:37:40Speaker 2: That's 100 percent racist.
- 2:37:43Speaker 1: I just don't see that being one of them here.
- 2:37:48Speaker 16: And.
- 2:37:49Speaker 2: For anyone to judge someone, and I hate that, when
- 2:37:53Speaker 2: people judge someone for being racist and don't know the person,
- 2:37:56Speaker 2: don't know where they came from, don't know who they are,
- 2:37:59Speaker 2: and all of a sudden it's racist. And I think
- 2:38:03Speaker 2: good reporting on this would have been or can be
- 2:38:07Speaker 2: to find out what the sanctions are. You don't have
- 2:38:11Speaker 2: to name the person, but what the sanctions are, because
- 2:38:14Speaker 2: it doesn't look like Stonington is calling it a racist act.

- 2:45:57Speaker 1: Welcome back to 94.9 News Now. I'm Todd Lynch. The
- 2:46:02Speaker 1: phone lines are closed for the last couple minutes. I
- 2:46:07Speaker 1: wanted to thank the callers today.
- 2:46:10Speaker 2: And Tuesday is important. And I think everyone, whoever you're
- 2:46:17Speaker 2: going to vote for, I think it's an important right
- 2:46:22Speaker 2: to get out there and cast your vote. And rather
- 2:46:27Speaker 2: than going down Republican, Democrat, if you haven't voted already,
- 2:46:32Speaker 2: try to get to know the candidates. Because there's a
- 2:46:35Speaker 2: race where I know both the candidates personally. And there's
- 2:46:43Speaker 2: something to be said about getting to know somebody and
- 2:46:44Speaker 2: what type of person they are. And not what type
- 2:46:48Speaker 2: of person they are in a commercial or knocking on
- 2:46:51Speaker 2: your door, but what type of person they really are.
- 2:46:54Speaker 1: So when you cast that vote, Do that. Sometimes it's
- 2:46:58Speaker 1: troubling for me.
- 2:46:59Speaker 2: You walk through your neighborhood and it's all Democratic signs
- 2:47:01Speaker 2: or all Republican signs. And, you know, vote for who
- 2:47:04Speaker 2: you think is the best candidate. And I'll say that
- 2:47:09Speaker 2: people talk about experience. Everyone starts with no experience. You've
- 2:47:14Speaker 2: got to start something with no experience. So but you
- 2:47:17Speaker 2: can have good, solid ideas. without being in office before.
- 2:47:23Speaker 2: I know who I voted for. I don't think there's
- 2:47:25Speaker 2: any question who I voted for. And, uh, just be
- 2:47:28Speaker 2: common sense with that. And I wanted to thank Lee
- 2:47:33Speaker 2: Elsie for having the faith in me to, uh, have
- 2:47:38Speaker 2: me behind the microphone for several hours, and today three hours,
- 2:47:42Speaker 2: which if people think his job isn't easy or stressful,
- 2:47:48Speaker 2: try talking just to a microphone for three or four hours.
- 2:47:52Speaker 1: It's difficult.
- 2:47:54Speaker 2: And I also want to thank the many people that
- 2:47:58Speaker 2: approached me and had kind things to say, some challenged
- 2:48:03Speaker 2: your topics, and that's all right. but, you know, came
- 2:48:06Speaker 2: up and listened. When you do this, and I'm not
- 2:48:09Speaker 2: a professional at it, but when you do this, you
- 2:48:11Speaker 2: are amazed on how many people are listening.
- 2:48:13Speaker 1: You really are.
- 2:48:14Speaker 2: People come up and just, I must have an annoying
- 2:48:17Speaker 2: voice because people come up and say, I've heard that
- 2:48:19Speaker 2: voice before.
- 2:48:20Speaker 1: And then they do that.
- 2:48:24Speaker 2: And thank the callers and the listeners because without you guys,
- 2:48:28Speaker 2: the show doesn't mean a lot. And in a three-hour show,
- 2:48:32Speaker 2: Those callers save your life. I appreciate every one of them.
- 2:48:35Speaker 2: And I've said this to Lee before. I appreciate the
- 2:48:39Speaker 2: ones that don't agree as much as the ones that
- 2:48:42Speaker 2: do because it makes the show a little more interesting
- 2:48:45Speaker 2: when someone disagrees with you. That's all right as long
- 2:48:47Speaker 2: as you do it respectfully and don't think that the
- 2:48:50Speaker 2: Israelis blew up buildings in 9-11.
- 2:48:52Speaker 1: That's a little strange for me. But I thank everyone.
- 2:49:00Speaker 2: I will not– Be on the radio probably between the holidays.
- 2:49:06Speaker 2: And I, again, thank the listeners. And, again, thank Lee
- 2:49:10Speaker 2: for putting the respect and having the faith in me
- 2:49:14Speaker 2: to pull this off. Because if you see him next time,
- 2:49:17Speaker 2: his job ain't easy.
- 2:49:18Speaker 1: Have a good day.
