Transcript
- 0:00Hey guys, today's podcast is a smaller ones and the quite
- 0:03interesting. I'm doing an interview for the
- 0:06BBC here in Wales called BBC company and they're doing a
- 0:10feature guest on their website. So this is just me basically
- 0:15reading out what I'm basically saying something like they're
- 0:18interviewing me asking me specific questions on autism my
- 0:22life and stuff like that. So here goes.
- 0:24Okay, so they've asked when was I diagnosed with Asperger's and
- 0:29ADHD? And how was I diagnosed?
- 0:31I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome idiots the OCD when I
- 0:34was 26 years old and this came after years of like other
- 0:38diagnosis like, you know anxiety.
- 0:40Dyslexia agoraphobia and all the other things.
- 0:42I can come come up with Lee with an awesome person condition and
- 0:46they kind of came to this moment in my life where the
- 0:49professionals who work with autism were able to press any
- 0:51diagnosed with autism. It's quite amazing actually, you
- 0:54know. The age of 26 and then learning
- 0:56about autism and not knowing you know what to do where to go from
- 0:59there. It's kind of like when they give
- 1:01you your diagnosis, it's afterwards it's there's nothing
- 1:05there. You know, they say, okay.
- 1:06We'll see you later. You know, it's interesting.
- 1:07I wondered what I would do after having the diagnosis.
- 1:12So the next question you asked was where you're a successful
- 1:15YouTuber what made you start to post videos about Asperger's and
- 1:18autism and ADHD. Do you make a living from the
- 1:22work so I actually started It where YouTube channel almost by
- 1:27accident. I went looking on the internet
- 1:30after having the diagnosis of autism and Asperger's Syndrome.
- 1:34We as it was back then because now obviously it's just a SD but
- 1:37back then it was Asperger syndrome.
- 1:38And when I came across videos on the internet, none of them were
- 1:44really engaging they're all kind of like very depressing and the
- 1:47people were not entertaining at all.
- 1:49So I decided that I would put a video out of myself, which was
- 1:52awful but looking It you know, it was my first video just
- 1:59talking about Asperger's Syndrome from my point of view
- 2:02to give people a little bit of like a Insight in a happy way.
- 2:07Like I'm more a deep beat way talking about the subject
- 2:09without feeling some negative and that was really interesting.
- 2:14So obviously that became like a bigger thing and more people
- 2:17watch my videos and more people wanted to subscribe to my
- 2:20channel and then it became the thing I can monetize, you know
- 2:24by a Revenue and branding deals and and stuff like that and then
- 2:27it became like a part-time job. Then it became a full-time job
- 2:31and now it's like my full-time Enterprise like a business.
- 2:33I run and it's it's amazing and I feel yeah, I just feel so good
- 2:38that I'm able to do this because it's helping people I'm able to
- 2:41make a living from helping people.
- 2:43That's that's a really good gift.
- 2:46So they're asking here what impact has my work hard on my
- 2:49followers like the people for me on, you know, I podcasts and
- 2:52YouTube and stuff and They are asking for specific examples of
- 2:57anybody. You know, how they might help
- 2:59them to be directly through a video.
- 3:00So I'm going outside right now. So the impact that my work has
- 3:05on people that follow me is profoundly amazing the amount of
- 3:08letters. I get from parents and people
- 3:10who are on the Spectrum saying thank you so much.
- 3:13Your information opened my eyes, you're you know, diagnosis guide
- 3:16helped me get official diagnosis your video helped me realize
- 3:21that my son is on the Spectrum when he's not being awkward or
- 3:23whatever and like some people say that I saved a life in all
- 3:26those kind of when I get that stuff.
- 3:27I'm like, whoa, that's exactly why I do I do because that stuff
- 3:30drives me and I'm like, I'm not different by the money.
- 3:33I'm not going to buy anything else for the passion the raw
- 3:35passion to help people is amazing.
- 3:40So the asset is it difficult to speak openly and publicly about
- 3:43your experiences with Asperger's and ADHD.
- 3:47I don't think now it's difficult to speak about it because I
- 3:52don't care what people think about That much I feel like if I
- 3:58don't do what I'm doing, then I'm not adding value to people's
- 4:01lives. The reason I don't find it
- 4:05difficult is because I wish I had this information when I was
- 4:08growing up and I wish my parents had this information when I was
- 4:11growing up. So to me it's kind of like easy
- 4:14to do it because I know why I'm doing it.
- 4:16Okay, they asked what impact has Asperger's have when you as a
- 4:20husband and a father me and my partner aren't married, but you
- 4:24know we have Been together 10 years still so, you know having
- 4:27a partner and a baby it can be difficult and stressful for
- 4:32anybody at any point in their life, you know, the
- 4:35responsibilities and all that kind of stuff.
- 4:38But to me those things are a little bit more difficult at
- 4:43times because of the communicative issues autism is a
- 4:47communication disorder at its heart.
- 4:50It causes issues with the way you understand.
- 4:54Formation data through communication verbally through
- 4:58suggestive through written. It's very difficult to stay on
- 5:03track sometimes as well with certain Sensations and knowing
- 5:07if you're doing the right thing or the wrong thing understanding
- 5:10those scenarios in a gray world where you think in black and
- 5:14white can be very difficult and I find it challenging, but I
- 5:19love a challenge. So it's a good and a bad thing
- 5:23for guys. Thank you so much for Bring it
- 5:24to this episode of the podcast story.
