Latest / Urantia Radio / Nicholas Knight - Sharing The Revelation
Transcript
- 0:00His name is Nicholas Knight and he has published a wonderful
- 0:03book which I've had the pleasure of reading.
- 0:06It's a delightful introduction of the Urantia book concepts and
- 0:11in general, spiritual, common sense spiritual concepts that
- 0:16are presented in his book, Carl's Theodicy.
- 0:18It's a great book. We'll talk about it.
- 0:20Nicholas Knight, It's called Carl's Theodicy and it's a great
- 0:25book because it it basically essentially teaches the Urantia
- 0:29book without mentioning the Urantia book.
- 0:31And we're going to find out how Nicholas did it and why on the
- 0:35Urantia Radio podcast. So hang on for just a few more
- 0:38seconds. I ran across this gentleman.
- 1:04He reads, he listened to the podcast, his name is Nicholas
- 1:08Knight, and he's written a great book, which I absolutely love
- 1:12for reasons I'll explain in a minute.
- 1:14It's called Carl's Theodicy, A hopeful skeptic guide to finding
- 1:18God in the world of teeth and thorns, and it is a fantastic
- 1:23book. The and the author with me today
- 1:26to talk about his journey with the Urantia book.
- 1:29Nicholas, tell me about your journey.
- 1:33Hey, Jim, it's an honor to be here.
- 1:35Thanks for inviting me. And like you said, the, the
- 1:39decision to not mention Urantia book in, in the book overtly was
- 1:45a design decision. You know, I, I was really going
- 1:48after, after the crowd of people who are not already familiar
- 1:52with, with the UB. I kind of loosely defined them
- 1:56as, you know, hopeful skeptics, you know, agnostics or maybe
- 2:01they were hurt by religion or maybe they're too smart for
- 2:05traditional religion. And and I think it's a good
- 2:08chunk of audience that is kind of looking, I don't know if
- 2:12they're like super duper mythical audience, you know,
- 2:15searching for for, you know, truth.
- 2:18But they're definitely more open minded than, you know, folks
- 2:21from traditional religions. So yeah, this book is is really
- 2:26for them. And my goal is not really about
- 2:30introducing them to the Urantia book, as in them becoming a
- 2:34reader, but winning souls for the Kingdom, you know?
- 2:40I feel the same way. In fact, as I've learned in
- 2:44reading other secondary books, a lot of people, including myself,
- 2:48when we attempt to try to explain the book, we get into
- 2:50this world word salad where if you're not familiar with the
- 2:55terms that it doesn't make any sense.
- 2:57I've had people who, who know me well, they say, you know, I, I
- 3:00like your podcast, but sometimes I got to be tell you, I got to
- 3:03tell you, I don't understand what the Arante book says and I
- 3:05don't know what it means. And I think that in today's
- 3:09world, people are more, they just want to know that there's,
- 3:12there's some meaning behind everything.
- 3:14And it's not just. And if that leads them on a
- 3:17spiritual journey of truth discovery, great.
- 3:20But I think a lot of people right now are feeling lonely and
- 3:23they feel like the system is telling them that it's, there's
- 3:29nothing else. It's all this is all there is.
- 3:32And this is, do you feel like that?
- 3:35Is that what motivated you to? What motivated you to want to
- 3:38put pen to paper and come up with this theodicy?
- 3:43Well, to be honest, it was, it was first an, an escape from a
- 3:46day job. You know, I got some days when,
- 3:49when I'm just like it's, you know, it's grinding corporate
- 3:53cheese grater, you know, and I just wanted an escape to do
- 3:56something meaningful, purposeful, something I, I feel
- 3:59like I want to dedicate my, my life to.
- 4:01So it kind of started as just like bunch of ideas and
- 4:04journaling and all that. And then, well, it's actually a
- 4:08funny story about the title I Are you familiar with the
- 4:12Odyssey as a like a scholarly activity?
- 4:16I. Am I talked?
- 4:17There's a great interview with Byron Blitzer, who's explained
- 4:20to me about about the Odyssey. It's very intriguing, but tell
- 4:24us more. Yeah, it's basically
- 4:28intellectual, you know, intellectually proving the
- 4:32goodness of God. And despite the evidence we have
- 4:35in the world of, you know, the problem of evil, the suffering,
- 4:40the injustice, you know, it certainly seems that God is
- 4:43either hiding and caring or incapable of, you know, running
- 4:47things differently. So there's a apparently it's a
- 4:50whole scholarly field in Christian and, and and and
- 4:54other, you know, religions of vindicating God.
- 4:58But the but I thought that it's spelled theodicy like like
- 5:03Homer's Odyssey. So I'm like, Hey, how cool would
- 5:06it be if the journey of grappling with these big
- 5:09questions that prevent people from believing in God was an
- 5:12actual journey, a person moving through a symbolic landscape
- 5:17where monsters and obstacles are trying to like, snuff out their
- 5:21their flame of, of faith. And then I learned it's spelled
- 5:25differently. I'm like, holy crap, that was a
- 5:27mistake. But it was a really nice
- 5:28mistake. I'm glad.
- 5:29It's funny how this creative stuff happens, you know,
- 5:31sometimes unexpected. Yeah, the, so it's also a very
- 5:36plain language. It's it's a real language.
- 5:39You're just kind of talking the way that you explain it.
- 5:43You're the, the, the very, I always hate to do this, but at
- 5:46the very end you have kind of an unusual epilogue, more of a call
- 5:51to action. And I want to find it so that I
- 5:54can kind of read it. But give me the essence of this
- 5:59book. What do you want people to get
- 6:01out of it? The ultimate goal is to bring
- 6:07people to God and that ultimate place we hear and in you be
- 6:14where their their will becomes the will of God.
- 6:18Essentially the alignment with the spirit within right and I
- 6:22know it sounds esoteric, but in in reality, it's actually not
- 6:26that complex, right. All the things of the spirit,
- 6:30truth, beauty and goodness, they're not of this world.
- 6:34They're they're not they cannot be arrived through pure sort of
- 6:39evolution right. It needs it needs this
- 6:42connection with the spirit. And this is, I'm sure you, you
- 6:46know this well, this is the beginning of a long, long
- 6:48journey of travelling God word, right?
- 6:51We're, we're evolving on this physical world, you know, beyond
- 6:56our, our, our physicality to something luminous and, and
- 6:59internal. So ultimately I want people to
- 7:04connect with God, right? It sounds very simple, but it's,
- 7:07it's actually not. It's simple to understand but
- 7:09complex to achieve, especially when you start talking about
- 7:12indwelling spirit and all the limitations of their gesture and
- 7:15how it speaks to the mind, you know?
- 7:18Yeah, there's sorry, go ahead. Now, I wanted to sort of on that
- 7:24note from from your book on paper 126, you write on a cleric
- 7:30confusion. I love your little cleric
- 7:32confusions that you put into the book that little like excerpts
- 7:37and you talk about the religion of the spirit.
- 7:38You say it's a deeply personal living experience based on a
- 7:42direct relationship with God rather than on rituals, sacred
- 7:46books, or religious values. It transforms an individual's
- 7:49life from the inside out, naturally expressing itself
- 7:53through sincere kindness, moral courage, and unselfish service
- 7:57to others. That's pretty good, plain speak
- 8:00and it doesn't delve too deep, but at the same time, there's
- 8:03there's such a ring of truth to these kinds of things that you
- 8:07you put in the book. I think that's why I like the
- 8:09book. It makes you take the complex
- 8:12and and kind of make it sort of simple.
- 8:15Was it was that? That yeah, that was, that was my
- 8:18whole goal. And you know, the, the analogy I
- 8:21like to use is inside the tent teaching and, and outside the
- 8:26tent teaching, kind of referencing what Jesus taught to
- 8:29the public versus what he taught his, you know, disciples and
- 8:33apostles inside the tent. It was very advanced truths,
- 8:36right? And I think they, they've missed
- 8:39a lot of them because of that, right?
- 8:41But he, when Jesus went out in the public, it was symbolism, it
- 8:44was metaphor. It was very plain kind of
- 8:47language, you know, you know, father, sonship, kinship, right
- 8:52family. He saved the deep cosmological
- 8:56philosophical stuff for inside the tent.
- 8:59When the person is secure, you know, secured in the Kingdom,
- 9:03and then they come to you with deeper questions, that's when
- 9:06you can unload the sea of glass and, you know, purple morontia
- 9:10trees and just go all out. But don't open with that.
- 9:13You know, it's like it's like blasting people with a fire
- 9:16hose. You're going to blow their, you
- 9:18know, inklings of curiosity away with all that stuff.
- 9:22You know, celestial stuff. Somebody said the other day that
- 9:25we have the emotion of the caveman, the intellect of a 17th
- 9:30century intellectual and the in the technology of God.
- 9:35That's a dangerous that's a dangerous combination there.
- 9:41But it is true because you do and, and Jesus taught this to
- 9:44his disciples and apostles talk to people in their own language.
- 9:49Don't try to don't try to beat him over the head with, you
- 9:52know, this bright concept. It it's, it's blinding.
- 9:55It can be blinding. I want to find your epilogue
- 9:58because there was a part of it that kind of jumped out at me.
- 10:01But the, again, the name of the book is Carl's Theodicy and it
- 10:06is out now. And how will people be able to
- 10:08get it once it's, well, how can we get a copy?
- 10:13It's. Going to be on Amazon.
- 10:15That you buy a copy of this book and give it to your friends.
- 10:18That you want to know about the Urantia book, and if they like
- 10:21this book, they'll probably dig on the Urantia book.
- 10:26Yeah, thanks for reminding me. I was going to share that in in
- 10:30in my notes but I forgot. This is also the reason why I
- 10:33wrote it is because there isn't like something I can give to a
- 10:36friend or Co worker that may be interested that I'm comfortable
- 10:40with. I can't send them to the
- 10:42truthbook.org or to the Urantia Foundation.
- 10:45I can't give them the book. I've tried that several times
- 10:48and I get just crickets and silence because, you know, it's,
- 10:52it's overwhelming it. Is overwhelming.
- 10:54What it, what is, what can they give them either website or
- 10:58something or book that I'm comfortable with that's going to
- 11:01nudge them a little bit forward. So.
- 11:04So yeah, what was your other question?
- 11:06I forgot. Oh, just how do we get a copy of
- 11:09your book? Oh yeah, so Amazon is my only
- 11:13distribution channel right now. I'm working on audiobook as
- 11:16well, and I have a website, carlfindsgod.com.
- 11:21There's a mailing list if if you want to join and see when the
- 11:25next thing is out. I'd love to kind of build a
- 11:29group of my people, but yeah, it's going to be available on
- 11:33Amazon primarily. You write in your book the
- 11:37epilogue. It says before you lies the
- 11:40greatest of all opportunities, a chance to contribute to the
- 11:43spiritual evolution of this planet, to live in a way that,
- 11:46multiplied across enough lives, quietly builds a little more
- 11:50heaven on earth. By choosing to wrestle with God,
- 11:53by courageously following the leadings of your spirit, you've
- 11:56joined something. Not an organization, not a
- 11:59movement with a name and a membership role, but a kinship,
- 12:02A scattered unofficial fellowship of man and women in
- 12:06every nation and every tradition.
- 12:08And in no tradition at all, all who have heard the same quiet
- 12:12call and turn to answer it. You may not even have known they
- 12:16were there. They are, and you're now one of
- 12:18them. I just think that's so simple.
- 12:20And the truth is simple. And for you, Nicholas, I
- 12:24appreciate you taking a few minutes to talk about it.
- 12:27It's a great book. So you going to write another
- 12:29one? Oh yeah, Carl finds Jesus and
- 12:33something for the kids, kids books as well.
- 12:37That's not sure what, but Jesus might might be next.
- 12:41But it's a it's a whole different ball game of of
- 12:44complexity. We'll see.
- 12:45We'll see what happens all. Right.
- 12:47Well, we'll have you on as a frequent guess if you're up for
- 12:50it and you know, we appreciate you too.
- 12:53So again, if you want to go to his website and you're, what is
- 12:56it? Carl finds God or Carls, the
- 12:59odyssey dot dot com. OK, All right.
- 13:03Well, thank you, my friend and I.
- 13:04Look, it's good to meet you. I hope we can talk again soon.
- 13:10And with that, you know how to reach me.
- 13:12We are always available to you if you have a comment or
- 13:14question you ranchoradio.org. Until next time, be of good
- 13:18cheer. We'll talk to you again soon.
