- 0:31Speaker 1: oh boy, I mean, I'll do my Thursday pick right now.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I haven't even worked myself up where I'm verified of
- 0:36Speaker 3: the Texan yet.
- 0:37Speaker 5: Well.
- 0:37Speaker 6: I was talking to Bill Felick. You know you want
- 0:39Speaker 6: you're in a press conference, you listen, just like everybody else.
- 0:41Speaker 1: One of those things where PFF had him here and
- 0:44Speaker 1: I can watch the game.
- 0:45Speaker 4: I watched the game.
- 0:46Speaker 3: They also fired their offensive line coach.
- 0:49Speaker 1: The Chargers also fired their O line coach, Mike Devlin.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Did we say that? Yeah? Okay, so you reading animo
- 0:55Speaker 1: that wasn't listening.
- 0:56Speaker 6: Robert Splaine explained how the Chargers were going up to
- 0:58Speaker 6: him after the game, saying that we didn't know what
- 1:00Speaker 6: you said. A really good question.
- 1:01Speaker 4: You ever asked that?
- 1:02Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:02Speaker 6: Good job.
- 1:03Speaker 1: All the Tom Brady theories, et cetera are completely false.
- 1:07Speaker 1: The truth is it's just a stolen bit?
- 1:10Speaker 4: Yes and no.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Can I get a definition of hard?
- 1:12Speaker 1: Paul drink real sugar pepsi? The artificial sweetener is way
- 1:15Speaker 1: worse for you. That's a myth that much like the
- 1:18Speaker 1: rest of your email.
- 1:19Speaker 4: It's hard to like get really jazz Dove first sixteenth
- 1:23Speaker 4: to three.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Yeah, wait a minute, I disagree. Those defensive stops get
- 1:28Speaker 1: you going.
- 1:29Speaker 6: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website.
- 1:33Speaker 1: For deals buy a Toyota dot com. All right, welcome
- 1:38Speaker 1: the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here at Julette Stadium.
- 1:43Speaker 1: We're getting ready for the Texans coming in.
- 1:47Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 1: The who we're playing? Yeah, I lost track here all
- 1:50Speaker 1: of a sudden, I had like one of those, Is
- 1:52Speaker 1: that right? Yeah? The Texans they got that's the team
- 1:55Speaker 1: with the defense.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah yeah yeah they play yeah.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Yeah yeah Energy Stadium.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, they've they've got a good defense, the Texans.
- 2:03Speaker 4: John Carroll University.
- 2:05Speaker 1: So we're going to figure out how we beat them. Evan,
- 2:07Speaker 1: I just read your uh, I figured I learned a lot.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I won't I won't spoil it for people. What are
- 2:13Speaker 1: you gonna post that tomorrow morning?
- 2:15Speaker 8: Tomorrow?
- 2:15Speaker 6: Morning.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Okay, so a lot of good look, a lot of
- 2:18Speaker 1: good e p a talk there and all that stuff.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Got to see if if one Christian Gonzalez.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Is yeah, where we're out at that. So it's Evan,
- 2:26Speaker 1: it is Paul, it's Deuce, it's me, it's Alex and
- 2:28Speaker 1: Matt and the booth. But like that, Gonzo posted something
- 2:34Speaker 1: I guess that kind of indicates that he thinks he
- 2:37Speaker 1: might be.
- 2:37Speaker 7: You know what.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Yeah, he posted on concussed. He posted on his alt account,
- 2:44Speaker 4: so a lot I can't explain it, don't worry. So
- 2:47Speaker 4: there's a lot of.
- 2:52Speaker 9: Just plays sad songs and.
- 2:57Speaker 6: You done, I'm done excited.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Uh.
- 3:02Speaker 4: So, since these athletes all have like branded accounts now
- 3:06Speaker 4: that it's like that's like their marketing account, that's their
- 3:08Speaker 4: their brand account. Some of them have alt accounts that
- 3:11Speaker 4: are more personal, that are more like their accounts to y. Yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 4: so he posted on his alt account, uh that he
- 3:22Speaker 4: was listening to his song that was titled I Am Back.
- 3:26Speaker 4: So that's where everybody is getting it from now. He
- 3:29Speaker 4: played last week, so I don't know back, Yeah, I
- 3:32Speaker 4: don't know.
- 3:33Speaker 6: But yeah, there's a.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Picture of him on the field with Millilliams in the foreground.
- 3:39Speaker 3: That's encouraging, that's.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Increasing too much. A caller calling to Catch twenty two
- 3:45Speaker 4: and brought it up, and I just said, you know,
- 3:48Speaker 4: Mike Ray will talk in an hour and practice will
- 3:50Speaker 4: be in the two o'clock hour today, so speculating will
- 3:56Speaker 4: find their step. Yeah.
- 3:58Speaker 1: And the thing about Rabel is if he's asked, he'll
- 4:01Speaker 1: tell you if he's going to play, and he knows.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I don't think he knows that.
- 4:06Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't think that he could with the concussion.
- 4:09Speaker 6: I think it's a little different. But I expect Gonzales
- 4:11Speaker 6: to play, and I don't expect Nico Collins to play
- 4:15Speaker 6: just based on history. Well their reactions yeah, yeah, I
- 4:19Speaker 6: mean yeah, but that's not relevant in his case.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Mike, Yeah, Well this is tall too.
- 4:24Speaker 9: Is that they I didn't see it, but they said
- 4:26Speaker 9: Nico Collins like had to sit for a minute like before.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I didn't, but I thought he was carted off.
- 4:33Speaker 6: The post concussion actions of the two players would tell
- 4:36Speaker 6: me neither one of them is going to play. But
- 4:39Speaker 6: the fact that Gonzales made himself seen in the locker room,
- 4:43Speaker 6: I know he didn't officially talk ap is that the
- 4:45Speaker 6: way you put he didn't like officially, can't you guys. Yeah,
- 4:47Speaker 6: but he kind of like let everybody know, yeah, I'm good.
- 4:51Speaker 6: That tells me that he's planning on playing. And I
- 4:53Speaker 6: know it's technically not up to the player, but let's
- 4:56Speaker 6: face it is up to the player because there's ways
- 4:58Speaker 6: to get around it. And I would just use Jared
- 5:02Speaker 6: Wilson as an example. A couple of weeks ago, he
- 5:06Speaker 6: ended a game. I think he spoke was it when did?
- 5:10Speaker 6: I think he spoke late last week and he said
- 5:12Speaker 6: he felt something one of the last plays of the
- 5:14Speaker 6: game against the Jets. I think it was ravens okay, good,
- 5:18Speaker 6: thank you. Then he felt like he was okay during
- 5:23Speaker 6: the course of the week, and you wake up the
- 5:25Speaker 6: next day and you have headaches. He was reporting. So
- 5:30Speaker 6: to me, it's very simple, and I think I applaud
- 5:33Speaker 6: Jared Wilson by the way for taking care of himself
- 5:36Speaker 6: and taking care of his body. I just think it
- 5:40Speaker 6: would have been very easy for him to say, yeah, no,
- 5:42Speaker 6: I'm good, I'm not experiencing it like I have these problems.
- 5:45Speaker 6: I'm a little worried about this. After the game, they
- 5:48Speaker 6: check him out. He's in protocol. Okay, yeah, I'm good
- 5:51Speaker 6: if he wants to play the next game. He was
- 5:54Speaker 6: worried about how he felt, so he ended up missing
- 5:57Speaker 6: two games as a result of the problem, which again
- 6:01Speaker 6: I applaud a player for taking care of himself. But
- 6:03Speaker 6: the flip side of that is there's a million players
- 6:05Speaker 6: that just say yeah, no, no, I'm playing and they just
- 6:08Speaker 6: go out and play. Yeah, that's and like, I'm not.
- 6:10Speaker 6: That's your choice, And I just think it's easy to
- 6:13Speaker 6: get around this stuff.
- 6:14Speaker 9: That's what I'm hoping that maybe Gonzalez woke up and
- 6:16Speaker 9: experienced what Jared Wilson said he experienced, which was had
- 6:19Speaker 9: headaches a couple of days, and then he woke up
- 6:21Speaker 9: one day and he felt good, he felt ready to go.
- 6:23Speaker 3: So hopefully that's what happened, with or without not Collins Gonzalez.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Right, Okay, So that's that's a big thing that we're
- 6:31Speaker 1: going to keep our eye on.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yeah, and we'll keep an eye on Collins too, I mean,
- 6:33Speaker 3: just for you know, you never know.
- 6:35Speaker 6: But I didn't think Ryan's sounded too optimistic on Monday
- 6:38Speaker 6: when he when he spoke about Colin.
- 6:40Speaker 4: And this is also his second concussion of the season.
- 6:43Speaker 4: I think he missed the game or maybe two earlier
- 6:46Speaker 4: this season with the concussion. Normally when it's the second
- 6:49Speaker 4: one too, that it's even stricter in terms of the
- 6:53Speaker 4: independent neuros to get him back on the field.
- 6:55Speaker 1: So even if Gonzalez is gonna play, look to him
- 6:59Speaker 1: to be not a full participant today.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, he's got to get through the he said
- 7:04Speaker 3: Red Jersey would be the first step.
- 7:05Speaker 1: So don't freak out if you see the participation report
- 7:08Speaker 1: and he's you know, I.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Mean, if he's out there, it's a great sign. I
- 7:11Speaker 3: mean it probably would be in a Red Jersey.
- 7:12Speaker 6: The only thing that would cause me to have concern
- 7:15Speaker 6: is if he's not out there at all. I expect
- 7:16Speaker 6: him to be out.
- 7:17Speaker 1: There, so we'll see, Okay. So that's that's one thing
- 7:20Speaker 1: we're looking at. The other thing is, uh, we were
- 7:23Speaker 1: talking yesterday, is it worth the discussion about Ben Brown
- 7:27Speaker 1: versus Jared Wilson.
- 7:29Speaker 7: Uh?
- 7:30Speaker 1: You know any way Evan that from practice, you'll know.
- 7:34Speaker 4: That or maybe maybe not ways that we're technically supposed
- 7:39Speaker 4: to share publicly, but but you know, we might get
- 7:43Speaker 4: Sometimes they'll give you a little hints, but they really
- 7:47Speaker 4: you know, don't like us coming out and do.
- 7:49Speaker 1: You think someone will ask the quest the director?
- 7:51Speaker 4: I hope so today. And you know, we talked about
- 7:53Speaker 4: this on the show too earlier in the catch Wine
- 7:56Speaker 4: two and you know it's not gonna be me, but
- 7:59Speaker 4: somebody like maybe trying to get a little bit more
- 8:01Speaker 4: color out of Rabel as to why they're so committed
- 8:04Speaker 4: to Jared Wilson. I think is it would be nice.
- 8:08Speaker 4: I'm not trying to kill Jared Wilson at all. It's
- 8:10Speaker 4: just I think it's the line's been better with Ben
- 8:13Speaker 4: Brown at left guard than it has been with Jared Wilson.
- 8:15Speaker 4: So it would be nice to kind of understand the
- 8:19Speaker 4: thought process there a little bit more as to why,
- 8:22Speaker 4: because I agree with Paul I thought last week he
- 8:24Speaker 4: was really quick to shut it down as even the
- 8:26Speaker 4: conversation about you know, making a switch there, So maybe, okay.
- 8:32Speaker 1: What else do we want to put on the table.
- 8:34Speaker 9: I just didn't notice they signed Daryl Taylor to the
- 8:38Speaker 9: practice squad this morning, which was reported by Ian Rappaport,
- 8:41Speaker 9: who's played played some snaps in the league, was on
- 8:44Speaker 9: Texas the Texans. I think he came up with Seattle initially,
- 8:47Speaker 9: but he.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Recently Texans this year.
- 8:50Speaker 6: Oh no, like this year.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Just so, is it an informational signing.
- 8:54Speaker 6: That's the speculation?
- 8:55Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 8:55Speaker 9: Perhaps, I mean it's but he is a pass rusher guy,
- 8:58Speaker 9: you know, so maybe adding some behind Chase On.
- 9:01Speaker 3: And no, I really didn't. I didn't notice Harold Landry
- 9:04Speaker 3: at all.
- 9:05Speaker 4: No, but I just like find the weird, like the
- 9:08Speaker 4: phrasing of the tweet that and.
- 9:11Speaker 3: He very likely could be elevated well Sunday.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Thank you to Derell Taylor's agent for that text message,
- 9:16Speaker 4: d in Rapaport. But like I, so, they have Chase On,
- 9:20Speaker 4: they have Landry, who might might not be playing particularly
- 9:23Speaker 4: well with that knee, but is playing and hell is active.
- 9:28Speaker 4: They have Ponder, they have Jennings. So now this Taylor
- 9:31Speaker 4: guy off the street is gonna come in and play
- 9:34Speaker 4: over Jennings or Ponder. Yeah, Like I just that didn't
- 9:38Speaker 4: add up to me.
- 9:38Speaker 1: The other thing to look at is if somebody pops
- 9:40Speaker 1: up on the injury report today that we don't know about.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Sure, sure, but that's the only thing that I could
- 9:46Speaker 4: think of is maybe Landry is going back.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I just can't couldn't do it.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, I think you.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Only put like fort I mean, it wasn't much.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I don't So we'll have a vrabel at one ten
- 9:58Speaker 1: again one ten. He's going, I don't like that. I
- 10:00Speaker 1: like it when it was right at one.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Yeah, you got your meal coming.
- 10:04Speaker 6: To eat, first grinder.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, So that's that. Anything else, well, I
- 10:12Speaker 1: mean all out from yesterday. I mean Tomlin stepped down.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I don't did that happen right after? It was right
- 10:18Speaker 1: after the show, right after the show.
- 10:20Speaker 9: Yeah, I got. I mean, it's weird that he stepped down.
- 10:23Speaker 9: I mean that kind of smelled to me like, we
- 10:25Speaker 9: don't fire coaches here, so how about you step down?
- 10:28Speaker 3: You know, that kind of like an agreement type of situation.
- 10:31Speaker 9: Yeah, they're moving on, but it's crazy that those two
- 10:34Speaker 9: guys have been institutions since the early two thousands in
- 10:38Speaker 9: their respective to.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Asc North talking about John Harbaugh and so it's.
- 10:42Speaker 9: Gonna be it's gonna be a lot different next year,
- 10:44Speaker 9: you know, with with that division and just different coaches,
- 10:47Speaker 9: different vibes, I mean clean, you know, I feel like
- 10:52Speaker 9: Pittsburgh will somehow find another one of their guys and
- 10:55Speaker 9: they'll continue to look as they have looked, like they
- 10:57Speaker 9: just seem to always stay within the family.
- 11:01Speaker 6: But you know, Tomlin wasn't well.
- 11:02Speaker 3: I mean maybe I misspoke on that.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Like it's they just going on.
- 11:06Speaker 6: You know, they have like three coaches since nineteen sixty nine.
- 11:11Speaker 9: Yeah, and it's always this like, you know, defenses are
- 11:14Speaker 9: pretty good, I mean outside the box.
- 11:17Speaker 6: Kind of hires too. Like that's you know, and you know,
- 11:21Speaker 6: I was talking to Evan a little bit this morning.
- 11:23Speaker 6: You know, I've seen Brian Floores his name sort of
- 11:26Speaker 6: attached there. I think that would make some sense, ye,
- 11:28Speaker 6: like you were talking about that same kind of defensive
- 11:31Speaker 6: minded guy. I don't know, maybe they have to go
- 11:32Speaker 6: in a different direction and get some offense. He was
- 11:34Speaker 6: there last year, two years ago, a short amount of
- 11:38Speaker 6: time there with in between jobs.
- 11:40Speaker 9: I mean, good thing you got Vrabel when you did
- 11:43Speaker 9: is nine openings right now. I mean it would probably
- 11:45Speaker 9: be a free for all if you were, you know,
- 11:47Speaker 9: maybe trying to make a move this year.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Listen.
- 11:48Speaker 6: Timing, I think there was eight last year, right.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Timing is everything when it comes to being able to
- 11:53Speaker 1: be in that quarterback class when you needed one, to
- 11:56Speaker 1: be able to get Rabel when you needed a coach. Yeah,
- 12:01Speaker 1: and Lifetiming is everything.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Now it's not gonna happen because you know, John Harbor
- 12:05Speaker 4: already has his pick of the litterate. Sounds like, and
- 12:08Speaker 4: there's what Falcons, Titans, and Giants right now with John Harbaugh,
- 12:12Speaker 4: it seems like the teams he's setting up with. But like,
- 12:16Speaker 4: I would just like to see some team like make
- 12:20Speaker 4: some innovative hires that are not just retreads of two
- 12:25Speaker 4: coaches that haven't won anything in the league in a decade,
- 12:29Speaker 4: if we're being honest, Like it's just Tom Wins lost
- 12:32Speaker 4: seven straight playoff games. He won one Super Bowl with
- 12:35Speaker 4: Roethlisberger fifteen years ago, and the same can be said
- 12:39Speaker 4: about John Harbaugh, and like at some point, it's like
- 12:43Speaker 4: it just gets tired, Like and I just I like,
- 12:47Speaker 4: I like it when other guys get opportunities that, you know,
- 12:49Speaker 4: are maybe a little bit more up and coming, a
- 12:52Speaker 4: little bit more innovative, you know, head of the curve
- 12:55Speaker 4: type hires instead of we're just gonna hire John Harbaugh
- 12:59Speaker 4: because he's going to be stable coach and will win
- 13:01Speaker 4: a games.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Sometimes when you're an owner, you're looking for stability.
- 13:05Speaker 4: I get that, you know, but like, you know, have
- 13:08Speaker 4: some cojones and like make a bold Higher.
- 13:10Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I mean I could see both sides of
- 13:13Speaker 6: that argument. I mean, I know what Evan's talking about.
- 13:15Speaker 6: And there's been plenty of those guys that have been
- 13:18Speaker 6: home runs, like Sean McVay and Evans Boy, Kyle Shanahan
- 13:22Speaker 6: and Kevin O'Connell I think, you know, with Minnesota is
- 13:25Speaker 6: one of those. Ben Johnson's another one. But there's also
- 13:30Speaker 6: there's there's also a lot of you know, Jonathan Gannon's
- 13:33Speaker 6: and you know guys that sort of cycle out quickly.
- 13:37Speaker 6: You know, I wouldn't, you know, like Brian Dable, Like
- 13:41Speaker 6: I wouldn't close my close the door on Brian Dable.
- 13:45Speaker 6: I would look at that as an option, you know
- 13:48Speaker 6: me too, even though it didn't work. Even though he's
- 13:51Speaker 6: a retreat you know, the Patriots would vrabel to me.
- 13:54Speaker 4: That's different though he's not a guy that spent twenty
- 13:56Speaker 4: years in the same place.
- 13:57Speaker 6: Oh no, no, no, I know you're talking about two specific guys.
- 14:00Speaker 6: Those those are too unique, And I know it sounds funny,
- 14:02Speaker 6: too unique, but they are. I mean, eighteen and nineteen
- 14:05Speaker 6: years that doesn't happen all And.
- 14:07Speaker 1: The thing about the two of them is they're still
- 14:10Speaker 1: relatively young. Like it's not like Pete Carroll or Andy Reive,
- 14:16Speaker 1: but he.
- 14:16Speaker 6: Was, like sixty six is as young as you think.
- 14:18Speaker 1: It looks good.
- 14:19Speaker 6: He does look good.
- 14:20Speaker 1: It looks good, you know. But a lot of times
- 14:22Speaker 1: when you get like the Tom Landry's and like Marvel,
- 14:27Speaker 1: it's time. Yeah, not just for that team, but to
- 14:30Speaker 1: quit coaching. Sure, these guys have a lot of years
- 14:34Speaker 1: left in him.
- 14:35Speaker 4: I understand this stability thing. And you know, there's definitely
- 14:39Speaker 4: a world where you hire a John Harbaugh and he
- 14:41Speaker 4: just gets you to eight or nine, ten wins because
- 14:43Speaker 4: he's just a good football coach. But at the same time, like,
- 14:47Speaker 4: I don't think there's been a more talented team in
- 14:49Speaker 4: the league than Baltimore the last.
- 14:52Speaker 6: I don't think there's any since they.
- 14:53Speaker 4: Drafted Lamar basically and they won nothing. They didn't even
- 14:58Speaker 4: make us.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Well when you say one nothing, they've gotten close.
- 15:02Speaker 4: They've gotten to AFC Championship game and got blown out, right,
- 15:04Speaker 4: But like that's an achievement.
- 15:06Speaker 6: But well, didn't they blow that game against the Chiefs
- 15:09Speaker 6: with like three fumbles inside the five yard line. That's
- 15:12Speaker 6: a game I didn't see on account I was at
- 15:14Speaker 6: my son's football back, which I'm still mad at I'm
- 15:17Speaker 6: not going to.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Say he remember every detail of all all their playoff games,
- 15:20Speaker 4: so I trust Paul Well.
- 15:22Speaker 6: I mean, you know, getting blown out and losing by
- 15:24Speaker 6: a touchdown when they sung them three times inside the
- 15:27Speaker 6: ten is two different things.
- 15:28Speaker 4: They have not performed well in the playoffs, and it's
- 15:30Speaker 4: held against Lamar all the time that he's not a
- 15:32Speaker 4: good playoff quarterback. And I just, like I said, I
- 15:36Speaker 4: just feel like, you know, how much, like how much
- 15:39Speaker 4: longer are you gonna like keep going to the well?
- 15:42Speaker 4: Like seven straight playoff losses for Tomlin and like he
- 15:45Speaker 4: also didn't like win a ton when they had Big
- 15:48Speaker 4: Ben and Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown and they had
- 15:51Speaker 4: some of the most talented teams in the league during
- 15:53Speaker 4: that period of time.
- 15:54Speaker 6: I would agree with you on both counts. I don't
- 15:56Speaker 6: think either one of those guys is won as much
- 15:58Speaker 6: as they should have, especially Tomlin early in his earlier
- 16:02Speaker 6: in his tenure, had really really good teams.
- 16:05Speaker 1: And the Patriots beat them a lot.
- 16:06Speaker 6: Well, everybody beat them a lot in play Like they
- 16:08Speaker 6: lost to Jacksonville at home.
- 16:10Speaker 9: Yeah, like that game, like both those teams comparing it
- 16:14Speaker 9: to the Patriots both those teams have been able to
- 16:16Speaker 9: draft superstars pretty consistently. Like you know, I mean I
- 16:20Speaker 9: go down the list of t J. Watt and Antonio
- 16:22Speaker 9: Brown and everybody in between. But it's almost why the
- 16:25Speaker 9: Patriots kind of bought them it out. I feel like
- 16:26Speaker 9: like they missed on those drafts. Like like Pittsburgh and
- 16:29Speaker 9: Baltimore continue to find some star players here and there.
- 16:32Speaker 9: You know, not they're not overwhelmingly, but it's enabled them
- 16:36Speaker 9: to kind of key stay afloat.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Steele's problem is they haven't. They never really were able
- 16:41Speaker 1: to replace Roethlisberg.
- 16:42Speaker 6: Yeah, they didn't bought them out because you know, and
- 16:44Speaker 6: it's a testament to him that they weren't good enough,
- 16:47Speaker 6: I mean, bad enough to bought them out. But that
- 16:49Speaker 6: is part of it. And to Evan's point, like you know,
- 16:52Speaker 6: Baltimore losing at home in some of these you know,
- 16:54Speaker 6: they lost the Rabels, Titans at home, They lost to
- 16:57Speaker 6: the game that we're talking about, to the Chiefs at home.
- 17:00Speaker 6: Same thing with Tomlin. Too many home playoff losses. You know,
- 17:04Speaker 6: I wouldn't count this one necessarily as that they were
- 17:07Speaker 6: underdogs in the game. This is an interesting stat though,
- 17:10Speaker 6: Like you talk about this nine openings. Now, Andy Reid
- 17:13Speaker 6: is now the longest tenured guy everybody, would you know,
- 17:16Speaker 6: it's been around a while. Who do you think is next? Oh,
- 17:19Speaker 6: Sean McVay. Sean McVay is one of them.
- 17:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I know he's in.
- 17:23Speaker 6: Kyle Shannon hands another yeah, and Sean McDermott. Those are
- 17:28Speaker 6: the next three tenured coaches, all or hired in seventeen
- 17:32Speaker 6: like after that, Matt lefluor Zach Taylor Like a right,
- 17:36Speaker 6: these guys just got hired. Yeah, these are the longest
- 17:39Speaker 6: tenured coaches in the league.
- 17:40Speaker 1: That's interesting.
- 17:41Speaker 9: Well with McDermott, do you think he might be in
- 17:44Speaker 9: danger if the Bills were to lose to Broncos this weekend?
- 17:47Speaker 1: I do?
- 17:47Speaker 3: Does it influence you?
- 17:48Speaker 6: I no longer think that he's in Yeah, I mean.
- 17:51Speaker 9: Do you think it's an influence at all that you're
- 17:53Speaker 9: so late in the process now, Like, I mean, I
- 17:54Speaker 9: know there nobody's been hired yet, but is there a
- 17:57Speaker 9: disadvantage to firing your quotes later than everyone else there?
- 18:01Speaker 3: You know, other interviews are already going on.
- 18:04Speaker 1: You don't get the cream of the crop.
- 18:07Speaker 3: I've always been hired.
- 18:08Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I mean, I'm just if.
- 18:11Speaker 6: You know he's.
- 18:11Speaker 4: Waiting Monday morning the Bills fire, Sean McDermott, you're changing
- 18:15Speaker 4: your entire.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Which I think is why, which might be why they're
- 18:18Speaker 1: waiting watch I think that's his camp.
- 18:21Speaker 6: Yeah, but I think he's waiting till all the information
- 18:24Speaker 6: is available, yeah, before because I think he's in a
- 18:28Speaker 6: unique situation where he can kind of pick and choose
- 18:31Speaker 6: where he wants to go, and he's going to make
- 18:34Speaker 6: sure that he doesn't agree to anything before. It's I
- 18:38Speaker 6: don't even think he's had interviews yet.
- 18:39Speaker 4: He's he has them lined up with the Giants, Titans,
- 18:42Speaker 4: and Falcons are the three teams that I think at
- 18:45Speaker 4: the by the end of the week he's supposed to
- 18:47Speaker 4: have interviews with. But uh yeah, I just with McDermott.
- 18:52Speaker 4: I I they have a weird allegiance to that guy
- 18:56Speaker 4: and he won a playoff game. They you know, if
- 18:58Speaker 4: they had been one and done, I think it was
- 19:00Speaker 4: definitely on the table. Now if they get blown out
- 19:02Speaker 4: by Denver, then like maybe, but yeah.
- 19:04Speaker 6: I'm not saying they lose a chance if they lose
- 19:06Speaker 6: a competitive game to Denver.
- 19:08Speaker 4: I it's this weird thing where they keep on saying
- 19:11Speaker 4: like do you remember what it was like before, like
- 19:14Speaker 4: in between, like you know, the team in the nineties,
- 19:16Speaker 4: and it's like, you know, yeah, they just have like
- 19:20Speaker 4: a weird allegiance to.
- 19:21Speaker 6: Make may all right.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Well, Wednesdays the day we turned the page and we
- 19:25Speaker 1: turned it to the Texans. What's the line?
- 19:30Speaker 6: Now we know it's three last favorite. It's a favorite
- 19:35Speaker 6: by three.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Hat just favored by three. I like that. That's a
- 19:38Speaker 1: fair spread. I would say that's interesting, a fair spread.
- 19:42Speaker 6: So I agree with you. Yeah, Mike Felder thinks it's
- 19:45Speaker 6: most sign of disrespect.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Oh really, he's really he's really looking for.
- 19:50Speaker 6: I was listening to him when I was driving home
- 19:52Speaker 6: yesterday and I just thought it was you know, it's
- 19:55Speaker 6: and it gives him an opportunity to do it. It's
- 19:57Speaker 6: showing you that they still don't believe in you, they
- 20:00Speaker 6: don't believe in your schedule and blah blah blah blah.
- 20:02Speaker 6: And I'm like, the last I saw, the Bills are
- 20:06Speaker 6: favored by a point and a half in Denver, Like,
- 20:09Speaker 6: so what do you say about that?
- 20:12Speaker 1: Right, Well, that's Josh Allen.
- 20:14Speaker 6: No no, no, but like the Bills aren't as good as
- 20:17Speaker 6: the Patriots.
- 20:18Speaker 3: That line's flopped.
- 20:19Speaker 4: It's Broncos minus one and a half.
- 20:21Speaker 6: Now, yeah, but that means a lot of money came
- 20:23Speaker 6: in on Denver and it's changed the line. It was
- 20:25Speaker 6: the Bills favored, and I would say even at a
- 20:27Speaker 6: point and a half, that's a lot more disrespect to
- 20:30Speaker 6: Denver than the Patriots.
- 20:31Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 20:32Speaker 6: Yeah, the number one seed at home and what did
- 20:36Speaker 6: they do? They played the third warst schedule. It's another
- 20:40Speaker 6: example of they just don't believe in these teams that
- 20:43Speaker 6: had these gaudy records. Now I'm not telling you they're right, wrong,
- 20:46Speaker 6: or indifferent, but that's what those lines tell me.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Does this happen a lot?
- 20:49Speaker 1: Though?
- 20:49Speaker 9: Do you feel like every year in the league there
- 20:51Speaker 9: are a couple of really good teams that just have
- 20:54Speaker 9: the schedule? I mean, is it only coming to light
- 20:56Speaker 9: for us now because it's becoming a talking point for
- 20:57Speaker 9: the Patriots, But is this what happens every year that
- 20:59Speaker 9: the teams who have every schedule?
- 21:04Speaker 4: The Eagles had one of the easier schedules last year,
- 21:06Speaker 4: if I'm not mistaken. Obviously, everybody always goes back to
- 21:09Speaker 4: the ninety nine rams because it supports the Patriots argument
- 21:12Speaker 4: that you can still be a great team and against
- 21:13Speaker 4: an easy schedule. I agree with you, do is. I
- 21:15Speaker 4: think that this topic has come up more this year now.
- 21:19Speaker 4: It's probably the Patriots schedule by a lot of metrics
- 21:23Speaker 4: is historically and.
- 21:25Speaker 6: I agree with both both points.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Yeah, and I agree with that. And I think one
- 21:28Speaker 1: of the reasons why it's such a big topic is
- 21:30Speaker 1: people were trying to explain how this four and thirteen
- 21:34Speaker 1: team that was just terrible had this sudden turnaround, you know.
- 21:38Speaker 6: And there's a lot of reasons that are beyond this schedule.
- 21:41Speaker 6: I mean, first of all, they completely turned the roster over, yeah,
- 21:45Speaker 6: you know, forgetting about the new coach and the quarterback's
- 21:48Speaker 6: second year leap, which is the biggest thing to me
- 21:50Speaker 6: is Drake May. But they also have two dozen players
- 21:56Speaker 6: they weren't here last year that are playing significant roles.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Because we know, we know that it has more to
- 22:02Speaker 1: do with the schedule, but people would look, you know, like,
- 22:04Speaker 1: what the hell's going on over there?
- 22:06Speaker 3: I mean, Drake Man is a good place.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Listen. When during the Brady years, I remember there were
- 22:09Speaker 1: years where it was a pretty easy schedule. In other
- 22:11Speaker 1: years were well they had to go through the gauntlet.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I mean, well, we played a lot of you know,
- 22:15Speaker 1: good teams.
- 22:15Speaker 6: You just said, like especially defense, but Will Campbell, Jared Wilson,
- 22:21Speaker 6: Garrett Bradberry, Morgan, Moses, Traveon, Henderson's, Stefan Diggs, Mac Collins.
- 22:27Speaker 6: Let's just right off the top of my head, seven
- 22:29Speaker 6: really important offensive players that weren't here last year. They
- 22:34Speaker 6: completely turned the roster over. They had a phenomenal spring,
- 22:38Speaker 6: and I know Rabel made light of it, you know, like,
- 22:40Speaker 6: you know, we won the off season, like, you know,
- 22:43Speaker 6: making a joke about it.
- 22:44Speaker 4: But they did.
- 22:44Speaker 3: They did.
- 22:45Speaker 6: They hit it out of the park.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Yeah, there was. The results are in.
- 22:49Speaker 4: I just feel like between the Patriots as a team
- 22:54Speaker 4: and obviously with all this Drake May MVP stuff, the
- 22:57Speaker 4: strength of schedule has come up in these debates more
- 23:00Speaker 4: than any year that I can remember. That it that it's.
- 23:03Speaker 6: Such a big deal. Think you nailed it, I think
- 23:05Speaker 6: both of you.
- 23:05Speaker 4: And that Drake May played a softer schedule than Matthew Stafford,
- 23:08Speaker 4: that he might lose the MVP because of the opponents
- 23:12Speaker 4: that he played against. I don't remember that happening before,
- 23:16Speaker 4: you know, I just looked it up. The Eagles last year,
- 23:18Speaker 4: according to d v A had the twenty ninth easy
- 23:21Speaker 4: you know, hardest or fourth easiest.
- 23:23Speaker 6: Ever scheduled, and it's because the division was really wretchedly bad.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Yeah, so they they had an easy schedule. Last year
- 23:30Speaker 4: they won the Super Bowl? Does anybody care?
- 23:32Speaker 1: You know?
- 23:33Speaker 4: Like so I do think it does happen, maybe more
- 23:36Speaker 4: than you realize, but I it's been a huge part
- 23:38Speaker 4: of the narrative this year for some reason.
- 23:40Speaker 1: And I think up until this point beyond May, I
- 23:44Speaker 1: think a lot of people said their personnel's not that good,
- 23:47Speaker 1: but maybe their depth isn't that good.
- 23:50Speaker 6: But maybe the depth isn't that good, but they have improved.
- 23:53Speaker 1: It's a little better than we thought it was.
- 23:57Speaker 6: I would agree for it.
- 23:57Speaker 9: Yes, I would definitely agree with that because I would say,
- 24:00Speaker 9: my probably go to the preseason and I'm sitting here
- 24:03Speaker 9: saying what happens if they lose Ballayne and Landry and
- 24:05Speaker 9: I mean.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Yeah they did.
- 24:06Speaker 9: They held the you know it held the four while
- 24:09Speaker 9: they could, but you know with the left tackle Varian
- 24:11Speaker 9: Low having to play. I mean we talked about that
- 24:12Speaker 9: in the training camp, like critical.
- 24:16Speaker 6: Defense showed like they couldn't stop anybody running the ball
- 24:19Speaker 6: when those guys were out. It was night and day.
- 24:22Speaker 6: They were like historically good when Williams before Williams got hurt,
- 24:26Speaker 6: but they were still what for and one no what
- 24:28Speaker 6: that Drake May but like they couldn't I'm saying they
- 24:31Speaker 6: were badly affected by those personnel losses.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Sure, but they still won the games. Sure, but they
- 24:38Speaker 3: but not and you don't even care about the run, Paul.
- 24:41Speaker 6: I'm just saying, but they were greatly said they missed
- 24:45Speaker 6: those guys.
- 24:46Speaker 9: And they badly missed the Yeah no, I'm not saying
- 24:48Speaker 9: that it wasn't drop off, but it wasn't catastrophe.
- 24:51Speaker 3: And Varian Low Drake for those loss like yeah, yeah,
- 24:57Speaker 3: he also could have scored at the end too.
- 24:58Speaker 9: I mean, you know it's Vaderian Lowe didn't get Drake
- 25:00Speaker 9: May killed like those are you.
- 25:01Speaker 6: Know, say and low I think played really well. I
- 25:05Speaker 6: don't think you missed anything there. I think on the
- 25:07Speaker 6: other side of the ball, I missed Milton Williams and
- 25:10Speaker 6: Roberts Blaine.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Oh yeah, no, I'm missaying. I'm not saying you didn'
- 25:13Speaker 3: miss him.
- 25:13Speaker 6: But like I noticed that those guys weren't fill.
- 25:15Speaker 3: In and do okay, like I thought it would have
- 25:17Speaker 3: been catastrophe.
- 25:18Speaker 9: That you don't have your like I I mean looking
- 25:20Speaker 9: at what they did last year with Christianallis and when
- 25:22Speaker 9: he was thrust into like into this hot.
- 25:26Speaker 1: One injury away from this thing collapse.
- 25:29Speaker 4: It was pretty bad against Buffalo and then it and.
- 25:31Speaker 6: I think it was pretty bad against Baltimore until John
- 25:33Speaker 6: Harball you're a guy who's now fired, decided not to
- 25:36Speaker 6: keep running that.
- 25:37Speaker 4: Guy, or when Lamar got hurt in that game.
- 25:39Speaker 6: Yeah, but but yeah, I think I look like when
- 25:41Speaker 6: they played good teams, I noticed those guys weren't there,
- 25:44Speaker 6: is my point, And I didn't really you know, uh,
- 25:48Speaker 6: they won the games, well, they won some of the games, and.
- 25:50Speaker 4: They would have beaten Buffalo.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Those two guys Williams, I think they would have.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay. P five hundred is the Hotline podcast at
- 26:01Speaker 1: Patriots dot Com. Is the email address. We'll have Mike
- 26:04Speaker 1: Rabel at about one ten today. It should be a
- 26:07Speaker 1: very informative and interesting press conference, so we'll have that
- 26:10Speaker 1: live on the show. So let's open it up. We'll
- 26:14Speaker 1: see what everybody has to say. The emails are coming in,
- 26:16Speaker 1: the calls are stacked up. People are excited, and why not.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Sam's in Easton what's up, Sam?
- 26:24Speaker 10: Hey, guys, how you doing good?
- 26:25Speaker 3: Hey?
- 26:27Speaker 11: Hey, I want to make one point. I have a
- 26:29Speaker 11: message for Patriots Nation.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Okay, all right.
- 26:34Speaker 11: I think everybody is critically underrating the Texans. I think
- 26:38Speaker 11: they're the toughest opponent we've had all year. This is
- 26:41Speaker 11: a team that had a brutal schedule, started zero to three.
- 26:44Speaker 11: They're riding a ten game win streak. They've taken care
- 26:46Speaker 11: of business and they won a bunch of games without
- 26:49Speaker 11: their QB.
- 26:50Speaker 4: Who's underrating the Texas mess?
- 26:53Speaker 11: Everybody in the national media. Everyone's talking about the Bills.
- 26:56Speaker 11: You don't want to play the Bills, the Broncos or
- 26:58Speaker 11: the one seed. Look, the Texans have the probably the
- 27:02Speaker 11: two best pass rushers, like the best tandem I've seen
- 27:05Speaker 11: since Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware. So I think they're
- 27:09Speaker 11: going to force straight into some turnovers. So it's gonna
- 27:12Speaker 11: be it's gonna be a rough game, but I think
- 27:14Speaker 11: the difference is really gonna be we can get to
- 27:16Speaker 11: shroud and if we can have some guys step up
- 27:18Speaker 11: our twos and threes and run the ball. So want
- 27:22Speaker 11: to here, curious what you guys think about that? And
- 27:25Speaker 11: I have a message for the Patriots fans as well.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Let's do the message.
- 27:29Speaker 11: All right, I'm Steed the ticket holder is there Sunday night.
- 27:34Speaker 11: You know, everybody's talking about how loud it was. It
- 27:36Speaker 11: was great, but I think we can do better. I
- 27:38Speaker 11: think we can be the loudest team this weekend. And
- 27:41Speaker 11: I think if you're somebody who's been looking at ticket
- 27:44Speaker 11: sitting at home, wand to go, call up your buddies,
- 27:47Speaker 11: call your dad, bring your kid, you know, go out
- 27:50Speaker 11: and buy tickets. It was two hundred and thirty bucks
- 27:52Speaker 11: to get in when I checked earlier. Let's be on
- 27:54Speaker 11: our feet the whole game, and let's be loud and
- 27:56Speaker 11: force some turnovers.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Okay, gotcha?
- 27:58Speaker 6: Okay, well, high apparel.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Let's let's talk about your first question. And thanks for
- 28:02Speaker 1: the call, Sam.
- 28:03Speaker 4: I just I don't Yeah, I didn't mean to like
- 28:06Speaker 4: snap at him. I just like who Like, I've heard
- 28:08Speaker 4: nothing but how good this defense is, and rightfully so,
- 28:12Speaker 4: I but like, all I keep hearing about is that
- 28:15Speaker 4: you can't move the ball on this defense.
- 28:16Speaker 1: So as the season ended, most people say, you know,
- 28:19Speaker 1: the team that you should be most worried about is Houston.
- 28:22Speaker 6: Right exactly, Like I think that's been around here. That's
- 28:25Speaker 6: why I've heard a lot about it around here. Nationally.
- 28:28Speaker 6: I kind of agree. I mean, not that the people
- 28:30Speaker 6: are overlooking Houston, because I don't think Houston's being disrespected,
- 28:33Speaker 6: but I think the Patriots are getting a lot of love.
- 28:36Speaker 6: I think people are expecting the Patriots to move on
- 28:39Speaker 6: and kind of with them.
- 28:40Speaker 1: They have the highest percentage chance to go to the
- 28:43Speaker 1: Super Bowl in the AFC by the odds makers.
- 28:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I maybe it is more. You know, obviously we're
- 28:49Speaker 4: so close to it, so maybe it's that. But in
- 28:51Speaker 4: our shows, every time we'd make lists of who are
- 28:54Speaker 4: the teams you don't want to face, I feel like
- 28:55Speaker 4: everybody's list had Houston either one or two.
- 28:58Speaker 6: Like I think it was Buffalo. Yeah.
- 29:00Speaker 4: And this defense, you know, all I hear every day
- 29:04Speaker 4: is about how great this defense is good.
- 29:06Speaker 6: And the callers but probably right, and you know, people
- 29:08Speaker 6: don't want to hear it. This probably is the toughest
- 29:10Speaker 6: team that they've played all year. Oh yeah, absolutely, I
- 29:13Speaker 6: mean the way, I don't want to use the word again,
- 29:16Speaker 6: I'll skip it.
- 29:16Speaker 3: The weird part for me is that CJ.
- 29:18Speaker 9: Stroud hasn't looked that great, and I really like going
- 29:21Speaker 9: back to last year the performance he had, you know,
- 29:23Speaker 9: where he's like willing the team with one leg like
- 29:26Speaker 9: you know Josh Allen did.
- 29:27Speaker 3: And that's what That's why I'm struggling to.
- 29:30Speaker 9: Get a beat on it, because I'm wondering is he
- 29:32Speaker 9: going to play better or is he going to be.
- 29:33Speaker 3: That's the same.
- 29:34Speaker 9: He was key to the game last week, you know,
- 29:37Speaker 9: you know, even going into that game before watching it.
- 29:38Speaker 9: And I know he's had some struggles this season and
- 29:40Speaker 9: hasn't been as good as it was. But I felt
- 29:42Speaker 9: coming into this season my opinion of CJ. Stroud was
- 29:45Speaker 9: really high, and then watching some of these games over
- 29:48Speaker 9: the year, it's just what's going on, you know. I mean,
- 29:50Speaker 9: he's had an Eco Collins, who also I remember had
- 29:52Speaker 9: a kind of a breakout preseason game here. I think
- 29:54Speaker 9: it was way back in like twenty one.
- 29:56Speaker 4: Maybe everybody knows Gonzo's rookie year, and everybody is freaking
- 30:00Speaker 4: out about Gonzo because like Nico, Collins is burning and
- 30:03Speaker 4: then it turns on the side, it turns out Collins
- 30:07Speaker 4: was an awesome receiver.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, So I I don't know if c J.
- 30:12Speaker 6: Stroud plays the way he did Monday night, the Texans
- 30:14Speaker 6: are not going to win this game. I don't care
- 30:15Speaker 6: how well their defense plays. I just they're not gonna
- 30:18Speaker 6: They're not gonna do that twice in a row. They're
- 30:19Speaker 6: not going to overcome you know. So let's let's read
- 30:22Speaker 6: three turnovers and let's play this game.
- 30:24Speaker 1: If the Patriots defense plays as well as it did
- 30:27Speaker 1: last week, but to the callest point, the Texans forced
- 30:32Speaker 1: may into some mistakes, who wins Patriots.
- 30:36Speaker 4: The Patriots defense plays as well as they did last week,
- 30:38Speaker 4: They're going to give up three points.
- 30:39Speaker 1: They could still still give up more points and play
- 30:42Speaker 1: as well well if Texas around their game.
- 30:45Speaker 6: What if Stroud plays better than Herbert. I mean, I
- 30:47Speaker 6: guess Stroud handles that better than her.
- 30:49Speaker 4: He could, I I don't. I'm kind of with Deuce,
- 30:52Speaker 4: like I just haven't seen him do it really since
- 30:54Speaker 4: his rookie year.
- 30:55Speaker 6: See. I thought when he threw the ball Monday night,
- 30:58Speaker 6: he looked good from clean pockets. But the mishandling of
- 31:02Speaker 6: the snaps is inexcusable. And if you do that, like
- 31:05Speaker 6: even when you're like I keep saying he fumbled five times,
- 31:08Speaker 6: and people are like, well, yo, what they only lost
- 31:09Speaker 6: two of the fun right, when you fumble a snap
- 31:13Speaker 6: and it becomes third and eighteen, that series is basically
- 31:16Speaker 6: over multiple times, and it happened repeatedly in that game.
- 31:20Speaker 6: If they do that, whether they recover the fumble or not,
- 31:22Speaker 6: if they do that Sunday, they're not going to win.
- 31:26Speaker 6: If he puts the ball on the ground five times
- 31:28Speaker 6: and throws a pick in the red zone, they're not
- 31:30Speaker 6: going to win.
- 31:30Speaker 1: And I will bet he will not. That's not gonna I'm.
- 31:33Speaker 6: Going to guess that he's going to play closer to
- 31:35Speaker 6: the way he's played the rest of his career, which
- 31:37Speaker 6: is pretty good.
- 31:37Speaker 4: I mean, they in the regular season, they barely turned
- 31:40Speaker 4: the ball over. Yeah, you know, this was a one.
- 31:42Speaker 6: Game he kept making. Joe Buck made a big thing
- 31:44Speaker 6: out of that, like they have more turnovers.
- 31:46Speaker 9: To seventeen, but even some of the turn ups you
- 31:48Speaker 9: watched that, Like I was just watching the shoot was
- 31:50Speaker 9: at the Buffalo game, one of them this year. I
- 31:52Speaker 9: was just kind of glancing at quick and it was
- 31:54Speaker 9: like same thing though, like some brain fart decisions from CJ.
- 31:57Speaker 9: Stroud are like whoa, whoa, whoa, you're you know, and
- 31:59Speaker 9: he's off his back foot and you know, maybe he's
- 32:01Speaker 9: not seen it quite as as cleanly as he wants to.
- 32:03Speaker 9: But to go back to your question, Fred, I just
- 32:05Speaker 9: will get like really granular and be like, what is
- 32:08Speaker 9: the impact of the turnovers? Because I kind of agree that,
- 32:10Speaker 9: like there's a good chance that Texans already to force
- 32:12Speaker 9: Drake May, But where do they happen? So the zone
- 32:18Speaker 9: or I think I agree with that.
- 32:19Speaker 1: If the Patriots defense plays as well as it did
- 32:22Speaker 1: last week and May makes mistakes, I think the Patriots
- 32:26Speaker 1: the team will be able to overcome those mistakes because
- 32:28Speaker 1: the defense is playing well and when May does do
- 32:32Speaker 1: his thing, it'll be enough.
- 32:33Speaker 6: It's basically how Houston won Monday night.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think that in that scenario, if you
- 32:38Speaker 1: get to.
- 32:39Speaker 6: The defense played well enough to overcome the mistakes.
- 32:41Speaker 1: I think in that scenario, if the Patriots get to
- 32:43Speaker 1: twenty points, they win the game.
- 32:44Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:45Speaker 9: Well, it's the things like Rabel highlighted off, the quick
- 32:47Speaker 9: change with the defense and the red zone stops like
- 32:49Speaker 9: those to me, if Drake turns them over, is it
- 32:52Speaker 9: inside your territory? Can your defense come out on that
- 32:54Speaker 9: quick change and stick for with the field goal? Like
- 32:57Speaker 9: those things I think are what they're going to have
- 32:59Speaker 9: to do because it it might be whose mistakes are
- 33:01Speaker 9: more constantly there that they usually make the playoffs.
- 33:04Speaker 4: Now, yeah, when you look at just like the Texans
- 33:07Speaker 4: offense in terms of like you know, drive efficiency and
- 33:10Speaker 4: stuff like that, Like they they get so much help
- 33:14Speaker 4: field position wise from the defense. You know, the defense
- 33:18Speaker 4: puts them on so many short fields or advantageous field
- 33:21Speaker 4: position or just flat out scores on its own.
- 33:24Speaker 6: They score it twice that it really inflates their points
- 33:27Speaker 6: per game number. So like they're thirteenth in the league
- 33:31Speaker 6: and points per game, but they're twenty first in the
- 33:33Speaker 6: league in points per drive because they don't score on offense,
- 33:36Speaker 6: like you know, the defense at the end of the day,
- 33:39Speaker 6: like and again that just might be one. It's scary
- 33:41Speaker 6: when you do this, but like Monday, the points per
- 33:44Speaker 6: drive was probably horrific. Yeah, but they had four hundred
- 33:48Speaker 6: yards of offense. Yeah, like they were moving the ball.
- 33:50Speaker 6: The quarterback just kept dropping it. I don't think that's
- 33:53Speaker 6: how they didn't score.
- 33:54Speaker 4: That's not how what happened for them the whole season.
- 33:56Speaker 6: I said, it's dangerous when you watch one week.
- 33:58Speaker 4: Right, you know, because if you look at their and
- 34:00Speaker 4: over eight during the regular season, it was one of
- 34:02Speaker 4: the best in the league offensively. So, like I think
- 34:05Speaker 4: that if you can put the Texans offense on long
- 34:09Speaker 4: fields and you make CJ. Stroud go sixty five seventy
- 34:12Speaker 4: yards to the end zone every time, then you're going
- 34:15Speaker 4: to be in good shape. If you turn the ball
- 34:17Speaker 4: over and it's going the other way and it's either
- 34:19Speaker 4: obviously a touchdown for the defense or a short field
- 34:22Speaker 4: for the offense, that's when the Texans start to run
- 34:25Speaker 4: it up on teams, is when the defense is feeding
- 34:27Speaker 4: the offense. So even if you turn the ball over
- 34:30Speaker 4: like it, just turn it over and you're in their
- 34:32Speaker 4: side of the field, right, Like, they at.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Least make one of the better teams creating turnovers.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Yeah, they're third in the league in takeaways. They're they're
- 34:40Speaker 4: up there with Chicago and Jacksonville. Jacksonville is number one
- 34:42Speaker 4: in the league in that they're third in the league
- 34:45Speaker 4: in takeaways. They have scored I think five defensive touchdowns.
- 34:49Speaker 4: That's not that's regular season, that's not including the two
- 34:51Speaker 4: that they scored on Monday night. So yet that's there.
- 34:56Speaker 4: That's really driving all of this is that they turn
- 35:00Speaker 4: the ball over a lot. Uh, They get a lot
- 35:02Speaker 4: of really good field position for their offense. Their offense
- 35:06Speaker 4: is middling, but when you have all those things working
- 35:09Speaker 4: in your favor, it makes it easier to play offense.
- 35:11Speaker 9: Do you guys ever remember a previous Patriots playoff matchup
- 35:14Speaker 9: with this kind of preview where you're going against the
- 35:17Speaker 9: you know, really good defense, Like I'm kind of thinking
- 35:19Speaker 9: of Seattle like it was. I just I don't remember
- 35:21Speaker 9: a lot of epic defenses.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Yeah, Like, obviously he's not Peyton Manning, but like that,
- 35:28Speaker 4: it kind of reminds me a little bit of that. Yeah,
- 35:30Speaker 4: you know, two really good edge rushers.
- 35:33Speaker 6: You know, cal Or actually mentioned that.
- 35:34Speaker 4: Yeah, Like I don't.
- 35:35Speaker 6: Know if you know.
- 35:37Speaker 4: Hunter and Anderson are are just unbelievable players. They're monsters.
- 35:41Speaker 4: Sheldon Raken is pretty good inside, but that's like he's
- 35:45Speaker 4: kind of really their only interior guy that I I
- 35:47Speaker 4: fear out of the group. But you know, those two
- 35:51Speaker 4: guys on the edge are as good as anybody in
- 35:53Speaker 4: the league.
- 35:54Speaker 1: All right, let's go to HERM and d C.
- 35:56Speaker 3: What's up Herms going on with Fellows? Hey?
- 36:03Speaker 12: So, I mean honestand we should give the defense or
- 36:06Speaker 12: a huge text some respect for everyone to act like
- 36:09Speaker 12: it's the you know, the still Curtain or the Ravens.
- 36:13Speaker 12: I think that is a little blown. I would have
- 36:15Speaker 12: I would have disagree with the cala before and the
- 36:18Speaker 12: reason why I'm saying that. And I thought about this morning.
- 36:21Speaker 12: So when I think about a Texas defense, really, I
- 36:25Speaker 12: think everybody's thinking about Will Anderson and the navel hunter,
- 36:28Speaker 12: right who yes, if I mean, if they have a
- 36:33Speaker 12: bunch of stacks, it will not be ideal. But I
- 36:37Speaker 12: kept thinking about how in twenty twenty two, I believe
- 36:40Speaker 12: Errol got techning Hans Thomson and it's the championship game
- 36:44Speaker 12: and it will still advanced. It still advanced the Super Bowl?
- 36:47Speaker 7: Right yeah?
- 36:47Speaker 6: How many points did they score?
- 36:50Speaker 7: Woh?
- 36:53Speaker 6: Like, how did they advance this? How did how did
- 36:55Speaker 6: Cincinnati win that game?
- 36:57Speaker 12: Well, so I was so I was actually getting getting
- 36:59Speaker 12: ready to get to that.
- 37:01Speaker 6: I was gonna say, I'll answer at Ryan Tannehill through
- 37:03Speaker 6: three interceptions.
- 37:05Speaker 12: Right exactly, that's the only thing we cannot do. And
- 37:07Speaker 12: I just don't think Frank will do it. A matter
- 37:09Speaker 12: of fact, I know he won't do that. He'll say
- 37:12Speaker 12: I'm pretty sure John mcgamons will be in this here
- 37:14Speaker 12: all week and telling listen, whatever you do, take the sag,
- 37:18Speaker 12: don't turn the ball over.
- 37:19Speaker 6: And I know he'll no, but that that might be
- 37:21Speaker 6: all well and good. You know, it's just like Sunday
- 37:24Speaker 6: the Chargers sacked Drake May five times and the Patriots
- 37:29Speaker 6: couldn't score. They couldn't score, They didn't score in the game.
- 37:33Speaker 6: They had one touchdown. So if that happens, you're automatically
- 37:37Speaker 6: in a game. If you don't, like that's Fred's point
- 37:40Speaker 6: about getting to twenty, I think is vital, Like you
- 37:43Speaker 6: got to make Houston score points to stay in the
- 37:46Speaker 6: game if you allow if it's another nine to three
- 37:49Speaker 6: game with ten minutes left, that can't way. Sorry, I
- 37:54Speaker 6: know the Patriots defense was outstanding and it never seemed
- 37:56Speaker 6: like San Diego. Sorry, the Chargers were gonna move the ball.
- 38:00Speaker 6: But did you know that, like for a fact when
- 38:02Speaker 6: you were watching, Like we were all sitting there saying,
- 38:05Speaker 6: justin here, one Quinton Mike must have said it five times,
- 38:08Speaker 6: one Quentin Johnston, big play, and all of a sudden
- 38:10Speaker 6: you're losing ten to nine.
- 38:12Speaker 7: Yep.
- 38:12Speaker 6: So like you can just blow off the sacks or like,
- 38:15Speaker 6: I don't even think that's the biggest thing about the
- 38:17Speaker 6: Texans defense. I think their corner, if their corners play
- 38:20Speaker 6: as well as they can play, that worries me. Their aggressiveness.
- 38:24Speaker 6: That's why I think you've got to try to beat
- 38:25Speaker 6: him over the top a little bit.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Yeah, see, that's the thing, and herm thanks for the court.
- 38:29Speaker 6: You got to make some plays offensively.
- 38:30Speaker 1: He agrees that Josh will be in his here all
- 38:32Speaker 1: week about not turning the ball over. I hope it's
- 38:34Speaker 1: not to the point where you get into the game
- 38:37Speaker 1: and May he's Drake May.
- 38:42Speaker 5: Right.
- 38:43Speaker 1: The reason why we're here is because Drake May is
- 38:45Speaker 1: Drake May. If he's not Drake May, then you lose
- 38:49Speaker 1: Drake May. May.
- 38:50Speaker 4: Yeah, he's got to protect the ball. And I do
- 38:51Speaker 4: think in a game like this, a sack is not
- 38:54Speaker 4: the worst possible outcome. No, it isn't, because if he
- 38:57Speaker 4: gets strip sacked, that's this is a team that is
- 38:59Speaker 4: going to return it for a touchdown. This is not
- 39:01Speaker 4: going to be Jared Wilson luckily gets the bounce, goes
- 39:05Speaker 4: right to him and he lands on it.
- 39:06Speaker 1: But that's the kind of thing that Paul's talking about.
- 39:08Speaker 1: If it's nine to three and that happens.
- 39:10Speaker 6: You can lose you you'll lose. Yeah, Like that Bengals
- 39:13Speaker 6: game I just looked it up was nineteen to sixteen
- 39:15Speaker 6: that you know they didn't like. You could sit there
- 39:18Speaker 6: and say, well, they got sacked nine times, they still
- 39:21Speaker 6: won the game. Yeah, because the other team turned it
- 39:22Speaker 6: over all those times. Like if if C. J. Stroud
- 39:27Speaker 6: I said this before, if he plays the way he
- 39:29Speaker 6: did Monday night, the Patriots are going to win this
- 39:30Speaker 6: game going away. I don't know what the score will be.
- 39:33Speaker 4: He's not going to play like that.
- 39:34Speaker 6: But if he puts the ball on the ground like
- 39:36Speaker 6: that is reckless with the football, the Patriots will win
- 39:39Speaker 6: the game.
- 39:39Speaker 4: I don't know that if he's going to be overly
- 39:42Speaker 4: good in the game, it won't He's not going to.
- 39:43Speaker 6: I can't imagine he'll play that badly now.
- 39:46Speaker 4: But you know you mentioned the corners, like I I
- 39:50Speaker 4: think Anderson and Hunter. I think the world of those
- 39:52Speaker 4: two guys.
- 39:52Speaker 6: I do too.
- 39:53Speaker 4: I think Jalen Petrie is maybe the best player on
- 39:55Speaker 4: that defense.
- 39:56Speaker 6: I like his defense.
- 39:58Speaker 4: I think he is tremendous. And you know a big
- 40:01Speaker 4: reason why they hold up in so much nickel defense
- 40:04Speaker 4: is because he plays the nickel and he can stop
- 40:06Speaker 4: to run at five eleven, one hundred and ninety pounds,
- 40:09Speaker 4: you know, a lot like our guy Marcus Jones.
- 40:11Speaker 1: He seems like he's really fast and he's all over.
- 40:13Speaker 4: There, aggressive, fast, takes on blocks, blows up. You know,
- 40:17Speaker 4: everybody's against this Texans team is like, well with that
- 40:20Speaker 4: pass rush like screens, quick game, run game, like good luck,
- 40:25Speaker 4: Like that's exactly what they think you're gonna do. That's
- 40:27Speaker 4: what they want you to do. These are aggressive defensive backs.
- 40:30Speaker 4: They'd all tackle, they're all physical, and Petrie is a dude.
- 40:34Speaker 4: So if you throw the ball anywhere near him on
- 40:37Speaker 4: a short pass, that guy's getting lit up. Like that
- 40:39Speaker 4: is not going anywhere. So like I just you know,
- 40:42Speaker 4: I really feel like their secondary does not get nearly
- 40:45Speaker 4: is enough credit for what they're doing defensively, because like
- 40:48Speaker 4: the first reads never open, and if you're a pass rusher,
- 40:52Speaker 4: if the quarterback has to hold the ball like that's
- 40:54Speaker 4: where they're getting their pass rush from. It's not because
- 40:57Speaker 4: they're bringing blitzes or disguising pressure. It's none of that.
- 41:00Speaker 4: It's all four man rush. We're gonna put seven in coverage,
- 41:04Speaker 4: we're gonna take away your first read, and we're gonna
- 41:05Speaker 4: make the quarterback hold the ball, and that's stingly. That's
- 41:08Speaker 4: last there, that's Peetree, Like, that's not Anderson and.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Hunter Daniels in California. What's up, Daniel?
- 41:17Speaker 13: How are you doing?
- 41:18Speaker 5: Joe?
- 41:18Speaker 1: You my brother?
- 41:18Speaker 3: Hey?
- 41:21Speaker 10: So John started off thanks to my wife. She actually
- 41:25Speaker 10: uh got me a T shirt yesterday.
- 41:28Speaker 2: That's a reference to the movies Step Brothers.
- 41:30Speaker 10: But it's Drake May and Tom Brady's.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Face on it.
- 41:34Speaker 10: So a huge shout out to her.
- 41:35Speaker 13: That that made my day.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Now diving into football talk, I feel like there's a
- 41:41Speaker 2: clear advantage with the coordinators offense coordinators, just with Josh McDaniel,
- 41:46Speaker 2: you know, being here before, especially against like top you know,
- 41:50Speaker 2: tier defenses as well. How much do you weigh on
- 41:56Speaker 2: like Nick Cayley's ability to guide c J. Stroud through
- 41:59Speaker 2: this game and then as a follow up course, that's big.
- 42:02Speaker 10: Yeah, how big of a factor do you think it
- 42:05Speaker 10: is that the Textans have several staff members who have
- 42:12Speaker 10: at least coached under Josh McDaniels in some sort of way.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Most notably Ben McDaniels his brother. So I just wanted
- 42:19Speaker 2: to get that.
- 42:20Speaker 10: Tick it off there.
- 42:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I put very little crew to the familiarities on
- 42:24Speaker 4: the staff, like maybe even almost zero percent. I just
- 42:28Speaker 4: I think it's like one of the more overrated things
- 42:30Speaker 4: that we talk about just because it's interesting. Yeah, yeah, thanks,
- 42:35Speaker 4: thank you, Yeah, thanks Mike. But Nick Kayley I think
- 42:40Speaker 4: has done a decent job, you know, watching them on tape.
- 42:42Speaker 4: They they're not poorly coordinated like the Chargers were, Like
- 42:46Speaker 4: they're blocking the right people, you know, their route combinations
- 42:49Speaker 4: make sense, the offense fits together. It's much more Sean
- 42:53Speaker 4: McVay influence, I would say than Josh McDaniels. But all
- 42:57Speaker 4: the pieces, all the parts make sense. Like I'm not
- 43:00Speaker 4: watching it in like this is a train wreck. Click.
- 43:01Speaker 4: I was with the Chargers, So the one thing I
- 43:05Speaker 4: think you can get him on though their offensive line
- 43:08Speaker 4: is not very good and they have had issues with pressure,
- 43:11Speaker 4: you know, blitz is you know who we block in,
- 43:14Speaker 4: how we picking this up, what our answers to these
- 43:16Speaker 4: different looks. So they that's like kind of like the
- 43:19Speaker 4: three dep chest thing that an experienced coordinator is really
- 43:22Speaker 4: good at that maybe a first year play caller like
- 43:25Speaker 4: Nick Kaylee just hasn't quite evolved, you know, to that
- 43:28Speaker 4: level yet, whereas Josh McDaniels goes into a game with
- 43:31Speaker 4: the pressure plan of you know, if they bring zero,
- 43:34Speaker 4: like this is what we're gonna do. And I don't
- 43:36Speaker 4: know if Kaylee's is quite on that level of X's
- 43:40Speaker 4: and O's.
- 43:41Speaker 3: Trent brown huh, Randy's in Virginia.
- 43:43Speaker 4: To Trent Browns. I think there's two of them in there.
- 43:46Speaker 3: Hey, Randy the big one.
- 43:48Speaker 5: Hey guys, how's it going all right?
- 43:51Speaker 10: Quick question?
- 43:52Speaker 5: I don't know if you guys talked about this, but
- 43:54Speaker 5: just like the I test with Ramandre al season, he's
- 43:57Speaker 5: seeming like the I don't know, just a more reliable back.
- 44:01Speaker 5: All of his runs he seems to just I don't know,
- 44:02Speaker 5: fall forward for like three to five yards every time
- 44:05Speaker 5: he runs where Travion I feel like they try to
- 44:07Speaker 5: get him going, but it's just like nine or ten
- 44:10Speaker 5: of these one or two yard runs and then once
- 44:13Speaker 5: in a while maybe he'll break one off right and.
- 44:17Speaker 14: The entire I don't know even.
- 44:19Speaker 15: Obviously there's a play action stuff off of that, but
- 44:23Speaker 15: I don't know what you guys think of, you know,
- 44:25Speaker 15: going forward, is this offense just gonna go as Remandre
- 44:28Speaker 15: goes or how does that? How do you envision the
- 44:31Speaker 15: workload being split.
- 44:32Speaker 1: I think you have to keep working with Trevion in
- 44:34Speaker 1: there because, like you said, you never know when he's
- 44:36Speaker 1: going to break one. But I do notice that, you know,
- 44:39Speaker 1: like there seems to be more space between the guards
- 44:43Speaker 1: and tackles for Stevenson and Henderson just always seems to
- 44:48Speaker 1: be running into a brick wall.
- 44:50Speaker 4: I think that that's exactly partially because of vision between
- 44:54Speaker 4: the tackles and setting up could say, setting up your
- 44:56Speaker 4: blocks and things like that. It's one area of Trevion
- 44:59Speaker 4: Henderson's game that is still developing, is you know, seeing
- 45:02Speaker 4: cut back lanes and understanding leverages and things like that
- 45:05Speaker 4: to set up blox and Stevenson's just you know, more
- 45:08Speaker 4: experienced and been in the league.
- 45:10Speaker 1: While even like at the snap and at the give,
- 45:13Speaker 1: you know, at the the mesh, the mesh point there
- 45:16Speaker 1: you go, it just seems like when I'm looking at
- 45:19Speaker 1: it from our vantage point and I'm sitting next to you, Evan,
- 45:22Speaker 1: it just seems like things are more spaced out. When
- 45:25Speaker 1: Stevenson gets the ball, I don't know.
- 45:27Speaker 6: I would just I mean, I would say down the
- 45:29Speaker 6: stretch that has absolutely been true. Like Stevenson has had
- 45:32Speaker 6: the more productive runs, say over the last five or
- 45:35Speaker 6: so games. There was a time that we were having
- 45:38Speaker 6: the opposite conversation this year that, like, Stevenson's not getting anything,
- 45:41Speaker 6: why doesn't Henderson get more carries? Henderson seems like he
- 45:44Speaker 6: gets this, that and the other thing. And that was
- 45:46Speaker 6: before the big plays started. Now the big players are
- 45:49Speaker 6: going to obviously skew the number, like he's averaging over
- 45:53Speaker 6: five yards of carry because he has you know, four
- 45:55Speaker 6: or fifty plus yard touchdown runs. But wait, it's been
- 46:00Speaker 6: Stevenson exactly the way the caller said. It's been like
- 46:03Speaker 6: five yards of pop for Stevenson.
- 46:05Speaker 4: But I think that they're using them exactly how I
- 46:07Speaker 4: was perfect. We wanted them to use him and envision
- 46:09Speaker 4: did I mean, Stevenson is your real bell cow and
- 46:14Speaker 4: Henderson is a home run hitter that you know, you
- 46:17Speaker 4: sprinkle in like. I just don't think Travon Henderson is
- 46:19Speaker 4: a volume back. No, I think that he is a
- 46:22Speaker 4: true home run hitting type of back.
- 46:25Speaker 1: I think he was.
- 46:27Speaker 3: Than him too. I mean it's just size back.
- 46:29Speaker 4: Sure.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Tanaka writes in Like most Patriots fans, I thoroughly enjoyed
- 46:32Speaker 1: the win last week, Even more so for those who
- 46:35Speaker 1: want to hate on the Patriots and Drake Drake May May.
- 46:39Speaker 1: The win on Sunday prevented the discussion that he can't
- 46:42Speaker 1: or has never won a playoff game. However, next up
- 46:45Speaker 1: will be he has never won an away playoff game.
- 46:48Speaker 1: These are silly and simplistic views. This year's body of
- 46:51Speaker 1: work showed he can win on the road. The added
- 46:54Speaker 1: pressure for a playoff game might test him, but in
- 46:56Speaker 1: my humble opinion, he has already demonstrated road gamers all
- 47:00Speaker 1: of this year with a perfect record. Maybe a win
- 47:02Speaker 1: this year and Denver might shut up those detractors for good.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Probably not.
- 47:06Speaker 4: I hope he never has to play himself.
- 47:09Speaker 1: I just want to know what.
- 47:10Speaker 6: The voices are in these people's heads.
- 47:13Speaker 4: I hope he never has to play a road playoff game.
- 47:15Speaker 4: I just get the number one seed every year. You
- 47:17Speaker 4: can be at home for every single game. And like
- 47:19Speaker 4: Brady didn't play a road playoff game until Oh no,
- 47:22Speaker 4: that's not true.
- 47:23Speaker 6: They played five.
- 47:23Speaker 4: Yeah. I played the AFC Championship in Pittsburgh one four, yeah,
- 47:29Speaker 4: but I hard win the one. The one in Denver
- 47:31Speaker 4: is like, for some reason, stands out as like his
- 47:33Speaker 4: first like true test on the road. I don't know why. Yeah, probably.
- 47:39Speaker 6: Chad.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Oh, let's see Chad says. I don't know about anyone else,
- 47:44Speaker 1: but I'm not worried about this game. Maybe it's because
- 47:47Speaker 1: at the start of the season I didn't expect them
- 47:49Speaker 1: to be where they are and I'm already super happy
- 47:51Speaker 1: with what this team has accomplished. Or maybe it's the
- 47:54Speaker 1: fact that I honestly trust and believe in what Vrabel's
- 47:57Speaker 1: doing with the team. Do the Texans have a scary defense, Yes,
- 48:00Speaker 1: but it looks like the Patriots do too. That being said,
- 48:03Speaker 1: I like Drake and company better than a Houston team
- 48:06Speaker 1: that looks like it will be without their best wide receiver.
- 48:10Speaker 6: That's fair, Yeah, all, that's fair.
- 48:12Speaker 3: That's for all the talk of the defenses. At the
- 48:13Speaker 3: end of the day, the quarterback.
- 48:14Speaker 9: If the quarterbacks play to their potential, I think the
- 48:17Speaker 9: Patriots at the edge.
- 48:18Speaker 6: I think they they agree.
- 48:20Speaker 4: The thing that I'm most optimistic about is as good
- 48:24Speaker 4: as the Texans defense is, they do what they do.
- 48:27Speaker 4: They They are one of the least like creative exotic
- 48:30Speaker 4: defenses in the NFL. They play all nickel, they play
- 48:34Speaker 4: all four man rush, They sit in the same couple
- 48:36Speaker 4: of coverages. I just really like Josh McDaniels in a
- 48:40Speaker 4: matchup like that when he knows what you're going to
- 48:42Speaker 4: be in.
- 48:43Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 48:43Speaker 9: Hey, that's what I want to ask you about because
- 48:45Speaker 9: it's I mean, a lot of teams do so much
- 48:48Speaker 9: disguise and it seems there's so much on the quarterback
- 48:51Speaker 9: to figure out who's coming, who's going, you know, and
- 48:54Speaker 9: there isn't that much.
- 48:54Speaker 3: Of that this week.
- 48:55Speaker 9: So is it really just about execution? I mean, is
- 48:58Speaker 9: that what kind of That's what they try to make it.
- 49:00Speaker 3: This is what they're going to do.
- 49:01Speaker 4: This is what we're going to do.
- 49:02Speaker 9: If you put the ball were it's supposed to be,
- 49:03Speaker 9: you're going to complete the pass. And if you don't,
- 49:05Speaker 9: you know, that's.
- 49:06Speaker 4: What they try to make. That's they trust that their
- 49:08Speaker 4: talent on defense, which is awesome, is going to be
- 49:10Speaker 4: better than the offenses they're going up against. And that's
- 49:13Speaker 4: just what they do. Like it's in a world of
- 49:16Speaker 4: defense where everything is like super exotic now, where like
- 49:20Speaker 4: guys are dropping and blitzing and there's got you know,
- 49:23Speaker 4: there's all chaos going on right right, Like Brian Flores types,
- 49:28Speaker 4: Steve Spagnolo, like guys that are just constantly cooking it
- 49:31Speaker 4: up at scientists. This is the total opposite. This is
- 49:35Speaker 4: a vanilla defense.
- 49:36Speaker 1: So what about offense? Richard emailing in from Louisiana. I
- 49:40Speaker 1: think we have a major advantage. No one is talking
- 49:42Speaker 1: about I love those. No one's talking about emails.
- 49:45Speaker 4: Only him.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Correct me if I'm wrong. But Houston is running the
- 49:48Speaker 1: same offense from last year. If so, the defense should
- 49:51Speaker 1: be up to speed because we have a receiver that
- 49:53Speaker 1: was there last year in Diggs.
- 49:57Speaker 4: No, I don't think Nick Kelly was there last year.
- 50:00Speaker 6: It wasn't.
- 50:00Speaker 1: So they're not running the same offing.
- 50:02Speaker 4: No, Now, it's not a guy. It's not a complete
- 50:06Speaker 4: pivot away from what they were doing, you know. I
- 50:09Speaker 4: would still say that it's like West Coast flavor, like
- 50:12Speaker 4: Sean McVay flavor, which is basically what they were running
- 50:15Speaker 4: with Bobby Slowick also, but uh, two different coordinators, it's
- 50:20Speaker 4: not that different. But I don't think that Diggs is
- 50:23Speaker 4: like all this institutional knowledge stuff where it's not over I.
- 50:27Speaker 6: Would just say in general terms, like the coaches watch,
- 50:32Speaker 6: you know, and they prepare and they scout and they
- 50:33Speaker 6: know what the other team's going to do. It's a
- 50:35Speaker 6: matter of stopping it. It's a matter of coming up
- 50:37Speaker 6: with a plan that works. Now, obviously they knocked it
- 50:40Speaker 6: out of the park with the Chargers. They did things
- 50:42Speaker 6: that the Chargers themselves said they didn't understand what they
- 50:45Speaker 6: were doing. They didn't even know what they were looking at.
- 50:48Speaker 6: You do that again, It doesn't matter if Stefan Diggs
- 50:50Speaker 6: knows what it like. They have to scout it and
- 50:53Speaker 6: they have to figure out what they and be we
- 50:56Speaker 6: can do that will work and be able to execute
- 50:57Speaker 6: a game that's this game so much.
- 51:00Speaker 1: That's so much more valuable to me too.
- 51:01Speaker 9: I just I think people overestimate how much football players
- 51:04Speaker 9: actually know about the overall scheme, like quarterback and maybe safety,
- 51:08Speaker 9: middle linebacker, Like, yes, there are some guys who know.
- 51:11Speaker 9: Guys come in and they're just like, well McDonald's this way,
- 51:14Speaker 9: when they this is the play, I run this way.
- 51:15Speaker 6: They're not tell the.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Quote that will always to tell he told me he goes,
- 51:19Speaker 1: don't ever ask a football player about football and football
- 51:22Speaker 1: because they only know what they're supposed to do. Yeah,
- 51:25Speaker 1: right now, Obviously, like you said, the quarterback.
- 51:27Speaker 6: There are special players too.
- 51:29Speaker 16: Yeah, you read like, yeah, understand everything, and that's what.
- 51:33Speaker 1: He said, and he's been around a while.
- 51:36Speaker 9: It's like you know when you ask guys like what's
- 51:37Speaker 9: your favorite run or what's your favorite block?
- 51:39Speaker 3: You know, like those like they know their specifically.
- 51:41Speaker 4: I just want to hit somebody. They're not like looking
- 51:43Speaker 4: at the game plan and.
- 51:44Speaker 9: You know, Steph Diggs is gonna be like, you know
- 51:45Speaker 9: what they're going to try to attack is you know
- 51:47Speaker 9: this is what they're going So.
- 51:48Speaker 6: Even if there's a lot of the similar concepts too,
- 51:50Speaker 6: like the the personnel is has changed a lot. I mean,
- 51:54Speaker 6: one of the most important guys in the Texans offense
- 51:57Speaker 6: last year was tanked out. He hasn't played since.
- 52:01Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, so hope he gets to play again.
- 52:03Speaker 6: No, I do too, But I'm just saying, like how
- 52:05Speaker 6: much it can change. You had Digs, you had Dell,
- 52:07Speaker 6: and you had Collins. Now you might not have any
- 52:10Speaker 6: of those three guys in this game on State. Yeah,
- 52:13Speaker 6: Sunday night, you got two rookies and Nol and Higgins
- 52:16Speaker 6: and you got Kirk, you know who I've always loved.
- 52:20Speaker 6: But that's not the guy, like, that's not his career.
- 52:22Speaker 6: The game he had Monday night that was shocked. If
- 52:24Speaker 6: he has a game like that.
- 52:25Speaker 4: It was his first one hundred yard games since twenty
- 52:27Speaker 4: twenty three.
- 52:27Speaker 3: When he earned all that money to Yeah, Jacksonville.
- 52:30Speaker 4: Which is crazy.
- 52:31Speaker 6: I really really liked him coming out of you probably
- 52:33Speaker 6: hated him because we tend to den that's one that
- 52:37Speaker 6: we're in alignment on hasard him coming out of Texas
- 52:41Speaker 6: A and M. He has been Okay, he's not a bust, yeah,
- 52:44Speaker 6: but he's not been what I thought he was going.
- 52:46Speaker 9: That's one of the things that it does scare me
- 52:48Speaker 9: about this offense though in Stroud, is that when he
- 52:49Speaker 9: has time, he can push the ball down the field.
- 52:51Speaker 9: And I mean I think Higgins has had, you know,
- 52:53Speaker 9: some of those big plays this year. Collins maybe not
- 52:56Speaker 9: there to do it, but just like it scared me
- 52:58Speaker 9: with Quentin Johnston, where it's a loose coring defensive battle
- 53:01Speaker 9: and one play can change it, you can't give up
- 53:02Speaker 9: a big.
- 53:04Speaker 6: I'd be more worried about, Like, I don't know player
- 53:07Speaker 6: who can make plays even if you're there.
- 53:09Speaker 4: They've been awesome and Stroud's been awesome against man coverage,
- 53:13Speaker 4: and I don't know how much of that is Nico
- 53:15Speaker 4: Collins just like being too good to be to play
- 53:18Speaker 4: him and man to man.
- 53:18Speaker 6: But we'll say Joey Porter did a good job in him.
- 53:21Speaker 6: The other I thought, but yeah, C J.
- 53:24Speaker 4: Stroud uh fifth in the league and e p a
- 53:26Speaker 4: against man like Fortain, and I would not have thought
- 53:29Speaker 4: that without going into it this week.
- 53:31Speaker 6: I don't want to get into this a lot of
- 53:33Speaker 6: hate from He's.
- 53:34Speaker 4: Not as good against zone. He's fifteenth against zone. So
- 53:37Speaker 4: play zone, all right.

- 55:55Speaker 6: so you turn it over. You end up in Miami,
- 55:57Speaker 6: and Matt and I love to talk about the Miami
- 56:00Speaker 6: game in relation to the Patriots. It's almost like the
- 56:03Speaker 6: start of the Patriots resurgence too. Opening Day in nineteen
- 56:07Speaker 6: ninety four down in Miami is one of the most
- 56:09Speaker 6: memorable games that no one ever talks about because, first
- 56:12Speaker 6: of all, the Patriots lost and why they don't talk
- 56:14Speaker 6: about it, and they've had a lot of success since,
- 56:16Speaker 6: so you're no longer worrying about, you know, random regular
- 56:18Speaker 6: season games, but a thirty nine to thirty five shootout
- 56:20Speaker 6: where you at about I don't know, eight hundred and
- 56:22Speaker 6: seventeen yards from Dan moreto Levin. Right now that you
- 56:26Speaker 6: work out, the field is in pristine condition.
- 56:29Speaker 7: It was.
- 56:31Speaker 6: So throw us for four hundred Danny, throw us sort
- 56:33Speaker 6: of a four hundred more and you're you're catching touchdowns everywhere.
- 56:37Speaker 6: I mean, do you remember that? I mean, like just
- 56:39Speaker 6: how hot it was?
- 56:41Speaker 1: And it was.
- 56:42Speaker 3: It was a great game.
- 56:43Speaker 20: It was Dan's comeback game because my first year in Miami,
- 56:47Speaker 20: a couple of games into the season, Dan ruptured his achille, yes,
- 56:51Speaker 20: and so he was down.
- 56:53Speaker 1: So I go down to Miami to play with Dan Marino.
- 56:55Speaker 20: When he gets hurt, I'm like, what the So this
- 56:58Speaker 20: was Dan's comeback game, and there was a lot of
- 57:01Speaker 20: questions about whether or not he was going to be
- 57:03Speaker 20: able to come back because you know, in training camp
- 57:06Speaker 20: he wasn't wasn't doing too well, wasn't throwing the ball well,
- 57:10Speaker 20: limping around, you know, hitching his gidea up and all
- 57:12Speaker 20: of that. So we come into that game and man,
- 57:15Speaker 20: one of the things that we never did while I
- 57:18Speaker 20: was here in New England. When I got to Miami,
- 57:20Speaker 20: this was like, to me, it wasn't fair. When I
- 57:23Speaker 20: got to Miami, go down there and we'll be in
- 57:27Speaker 20: the game and Dan will call a play in the huddle,
- 57:30Speaker 20: we'll break the huddle line up and maybe the ball
- 57:33Speaker 20: is supposed to be thrown to the opposite side. Dan
- 57:35Speaker 20: will see the coverage and he'll see or notice that
- 57:38Speaker 20: someone's one on one. Say it's me, I'm one on one.
- 57:40Speaker 20: He'll see identify that. He'll give me a hand signal.
- 57:44Speaker 20: Now it's just me and him one on one like practice.
- 57:49Speaker 20: To me, that wasn't fair. I'm like, we never did
- 57:51Speaker 20: that here in New England. In New England my nine
- 57:55Speaker 20: years here, if we called a play.
- 57:58Speaker 1: In the huddle and.
- 57:59Speaker 20: We went to the line of score image and they
- 58:00Speaker 20: were in the proper defense or defense, that wasn't favorable
- 58:03Speaker 20: for us to have success on that particular play. We
- 58:06Speaker 20: just chalked that one up as a loss. There were
- 58:08Speaker 20: no audibles, there were no changing the plays, like I mean,
- 58:11Speaker 20: it happens all the time now, but there were no
- 58:13Speaker 20: changing of plays at the line of screaming.
- 58:15Speaker 3: It did not happen.
- 58:16Speaker 20: And when I got to Miami and we started doing that,
- 58:19Speaker 20: and I'm like, what, No, one of these guys were
- 58:21Speaker 20: so tough to beat all the time, You're doing this right,
- 58:24Speaker 20: And so yeah, during that game Dan's comeback nineteen ninety four,
- 58:30Speaker 20: the first game against the Patriots, I caught five balls,
- 58:34Speaker 20: two hundred eleven yards and three touchdowns. It was almost
- 58:39Speaker 20: all in the fourth quarter.
- 58:40Speaker 7: Yep.
- 58:40Speaker 20: At halftime, I hadn't caught a pass. It was latter
- 58:42Speaker 20: third quarter and fourth quarter. I got all that done.
- 58:45Speaker 20: The last catch was a fourth down catch. I think
- 58:49Speaker 20: there was just under two minutes left in the game.
- 58:51Speaker 20: We didn't have any timeouse left. I believe we were
- 58:54Speaker 20: on the opposing teams on the Patriots forty.
- 58:58Speaker 6: Five yard line.
- 58:59Speaker 20: It was fourth and five, and we if we didn't
- 59:03Speaker 20: get the first down, the game was over.
- 59:06Speaker 1: It was.
- 59:06Speaker 20: It was that kind of shootout. So we called the
- 59:08Speaker 20: trips left and I was on the right hand side.
- 59:11Speaker 20: The ball was supposed to go to one of the
- 59:12Speaker 20: three on the left. Dan gets him to the line
- 59:16Speaker 20: of scrimmage and he sees that on one on one
- 59:19Speaker 20: and he gives me a go. He just reaches down
- 59:21Speaker 20: by the side and gives me that five finger go
- 59:24Speaker 20: fourth and five boom he throws it.
- 59:26Speaker 3: I catch it touchdown.
- 59:28Speaker 20: That kind that was the magic of that back then,
- 59:30Speaker 20: because he changed the play right line of scrimmage just
- 59:32Speaker 20: with me, he and I and that was just the magic.
- 59:35Speaker 20: And Dan and I really developed a camaraderie, a a
- 59:40Speaker 20: a receiver quarterback relationship that I never had with any
- 59:46Speaker 20: quarterback prior to that or even after that.
- 59:49Speaker 1: Did that?
- 59:50Speaker 16: Was there a sense of satisfaction with that, irving that
- 59:52Speaker 16: you know what you can do? You know you talked
- 59:54Speaker 16: about you know, the Patriots are primarily running team, even
- 59:57Speaker 16: in the eighty five team. You know, it was you know,
- 59:59Speaker 16: it's most he was Craig James, Robert Weathers, all these
- 1:00:01Speaker 16: guys that could run. It wasn't an aerial attack. You're
- 1:00:04Speaker 16: two really good outside receivers. When that happens in Miami
- 1:00:07Speaker 16: and you get to see a healthy Dan Marino was there,
- 1:00:10Speaker 16: like damn, I knew I could do this, Like this
- 1:00:13Speaker 16: was I knew I had this kind of game in me.
- 1:00:15Speaker 16: I just needed an offense maybe coaching staff whatever that
- 1:00:19Speaker 16: could see what my abilities were. Because you had Pro
- 1:00:21Speaker 16: Bowl years at that point in time, right, you know,
- 1:00:24Speaker 16: and you weren't just Johnny cum leaders. You know you
- 1:00:27Speaker 16: did in the league for a while, right, But I didn't.
- 1:00:31Speaker 16: I didn't pay attention to stats. It didn't matter.
- 1:00:34Speaker 20: To me because I was I was never even in
- 1:00:37Speaker 20: the resk. I was never necessarily the number one guy, right.
- 1:00:40Speaker 20: I played with Mike Rozier. Mike Rozier was the cat
- 1:00:42Speaker 20: ball thirty five times a game, forty times a game. Uh,
- 1:00:45Speaker 20: and turn of Gill was quarterback. So I was just
- 1:00:47Speaker 20: always a compliment. So I never looked for the for
- 1:00:51Speaker 20: the big accolades, or I never looked or played in
- 1:00:53Speaker 20: a situation where I was the guy. So when I
- 1:00:58Speaker 20: got to Miami, I really never thought that to myself.
- 1:01:01Speaker 20: Oh well, look, when I finally got to a place
- 1:01:04Speaker 20: I was still learning. I was just excited about being
- 1:01:07Speaker 20: able to do it because I never did this before.
- 1:01:11Speaker 20: I never did this at the wide receiver position, and
- 1:01:14Speaker 20: this is, I guess how it's supposed to be done.
- 1:01:17Speaker 20: Mark Clayton had gotten released the same year I was
- 1:01:20Speaker 20: going that I went to Miami. Mark Duper was still
- 1:01:24Speaker 20: there and we made it through a training camp together
- 1:01:27Speaker 20: and then he got released after training camp my first
- 1:01:29Speaker 20: training camp there. But I learned so much from him
- 1:01:32Speaker 20: just watching him and talking to him how to be
- 1:01:35Speaker 20: an NFL wide receiver. Here I'm nine years in the
- 1:01:37Speaker 20: league and I'm learning this new stuff that I've never
- 1:01:40Speaker 20: so I was so excited about learning this new stuff
- 1:01:44Speaker 20: and wasn't really paying attention to numbers. I really didn't
- 1:01:47Speaker 20: pay attention to numbers. When I got selected to the
- 1:01:50Speaker 20: Pro Bowl that year, that was great, But I really
- 1:01:53Speaker 20: never really paid attention to numbers. It wasn't until the
- 1:01:56Speaker 20: latter part of my career when I started getting closed
- 1:01:59Speaker 20: to a thousand and catches, you know, my last couple
- 1:02:01Speaker 20: of years Washington, when I started looking at numbers. But
- 1:02:04Speaker 20: even when I was with Philadelphia, I never, Okay, I
- 1:02:07Speaker 20: gotta catch this amount, I gotta catch this amount of touchdowns.
- 1:02:10Speaker 20: I gotta score so many touchdowns and so many yards
- 1:02:13Speaker 20: and so many catches.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: I never I never did do that going into a see.
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: So even though you don't follow the stats as much,
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: you have to look at the game now and say, man,
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: kind of numbers I could put up with this game?
- 1:02:22Speaker 20: Oh well, yeah, now numbers and money.
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: And now great moments in.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Histories. No sense in traveling right now?
- 1:02:36Speaker 6: And he does you know, he doesn't just travel. He
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: usually does some pretty immersive, extensive trips.
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: Yeah himself in the culture people.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: You got to give that you know, case of cat
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: food to the local shelter.
- 1:02:50Speaker 21: Why do you mock charity? What why do you? You're
- 1:02:52Speaker 21: a bad peron mocking? Yes you are, you're mocking. That's
- 1:02:55Speaker 21: what grint on your face. You've got that cheshire cat
- 1:02:58Speaker 21: grin on your face. Going around the world doing good things.
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: What a bad man.
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: Look at the bad man doing good things.
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: Trying to help the cats.
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: Is this a shelter for cats?
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:03:12Speaker 6: My cat's been a little out of suits really the
- 1:03:15Speaker 6: last week or so. We couldn't find him for a
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: long time. Last Saturday, We're like, stop at you see that?
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: Fred?
- 1:03:25Speaker 6: No cats out there.
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: Now, I'll sit down with him and ask them what's up.
- 1:03:30Speaker 22: That's another great moment from all Right.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Welcome back to Patriot's Unfiltered A five five Pats five
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: hundred is the hotline podcast at patriots dot com. Is
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: the email address. We'll have Mike Rabel at about one
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: ten or so. It should be a good, uh press conference, Like, what's.
- 1:03:49Speaker 6: The theme today, Mike, let's predict the theme?
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: Playing a good defense?
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: Yeah right, don't let absolutely get killed.
- 1:03:57Speaker 6: That's gonna there's gonna be a lot of those, a
- 1:03:59Speaker 6: lot of questions about the Texans defense.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Mike.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: Will lay it on mind, you know, it's something else too.
- 1:04:04Speaker 9: It's just I know everybody probably I just realized, I'm like,
- 1:04:06Speaker 9: oh my Frabel Head coached in Texas, the Texans too,
- 1:04:08Speaker 9: you know, the connection for a year, number of connections
- 1:04:11Speaker 9: with this team.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: I do need Ben mcdaills.
- 1:04:14Speaker 9: It's just interesting, like imagine your brother is coaching against you,
- 1:04:17Speaker 9: you know, especially in an offensive coordinator kind of a role,
- 1:04:20Speaker 9: like you know, hey Carboys, I mean hey coaches.
- 1:04:22Speaker 7: I get it.
- 1:04:23Speaker 9: It's like, but I don't know, there's so much like
- 1:04:25Speaker 9: nuance in detail to an offensive coordinator that like Josh
- 1:04:28Speaker 9: literally knows everything they're going to try to do, and
- 1:04:30Speaker 9: I'm sure Ben knows.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: Are you know after the game, do they give them noogies?
- 1:04:34Speaker 7: Right?
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: Franklin from Baltimore, Right, Since Patriots fans have been rightfully,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: I would say concern about this matchup with the Texans.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: I share the same thoughts that Houston poses, in my opinion,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: a bad matchup versus the Patriots, since they cannot only
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: stress pass protection, but they also have the secondary to
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: maintain that intensity. That's something that for as good as
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: the Charges defense was, it didn't pose that same problem.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: If I can, and still hoping, Patriots Nation However, look
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: at it from our side for a second. Houston poses
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: virtually no threat running the ball, has a bad line,
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Stroud is shaky and can be prone to turning it over.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: And if Collins doesn't play, Houston doesn't really have any
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: pass catchers that scare you. Point being if the Patriots
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: don't turn the ball over, the Texans aren't a team
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: capable of building up a huge lead. And with Houston
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: being so one dimensional, I think that does play into
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: the Patriots defensive strength of being pretty good on third downs.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: In terms of score, I honestly expect a similar type
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: of game like they had versus the Chargers, with the
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: Patriots winning. Of course, well, Stroud turned it over last week,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: but he hasn't really turned it over a lot, and.
- 1:05:41Speaker 6: I would agree that Houston, I don't think, is the
- 1:05:47Speaker 6: type of team that you would expect to run away
- 1:05:49Speaker 6: and hide. I don't think that they would be building
- 1:05:51Speaker 6: a big lead in this game. I mean, they ran
- 1:05:55Speaker 6: the ball really well Monday night. Both guys went over
- 1:06:00Speaker 6: one hundred yards and in Chubb was averaging well over
- 1:06:04Speaker 6: five yards to carry in that secondary role. I mean,
- 1:06:09Speaker 6: I don't know, they ran the ball four hundred and
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: seventy five times and they you know, they threw it,
- 1:06:14Speaker 6: you know, I mean Stroud through it four hundred and
- 1:06:16Speaker 6: twenty three, so five hundred and eighty two attempts as
- 1:06:19Speaker 6: a team. I mean, I don't know, that's not that
- 1:06:21Speaker 6: doesn't sound like it's out of whack, like in terms
- 1:06:24Speaker 6: of balance. Now, they're not a great running team. Patriots
- 1:06:27Speaker 6: have you know, had more rushing touchdowns and whatnot. But
- 1:06:32Speaker 6: I don't know, they look pretty good Monday night doing it.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:06:34Speaker 6: Now the Steelers I don't think are as good against
- 1:06:36Speaker 6: the run as the Patriots are or have been during
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: the course of the season. But I don't know. I agree.
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: I just think it's going to take it.
- 1:06:45Speaker 9: You're win all the little details, you know, and that's
- 1:06:47Speaker 9: where I think the Patriots can separate themselves.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: Just did the brable.
- 1:06:51Speaker 6: They also don't think the offensive line is that bad.
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that.
- 1:06:54Speaker 9: They've We've got to get we got to get one
- 1:06:56Speaker 9: of these on Trump Brown though, we got to.
- 1:06:57Speaker 6: Oh you'll get he does it every time you're called once,
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: but he does it every time. Monday Night he did it.
- 1:07:05Speaker 6: I don't think it's a great offensive line, but it's
- 1:07:07Speaker 6: been better. I mean, they've been sacked about half the
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: amount of times the Patriots have.
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: Jake Andrews, I mean, you know, Patriot, he was.
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: He was part of a problem the other night with
- 1:07:14Speaker 6: those snaps. I mean they weren't. I mean, they weren't
- 1:07:16Speaker 6: all on him, some of them. You know, one of
- 1:07:18Speaker 6: them you snapped. One wasn't even ready and no one
- 1:07:20Speaker 6: else was ready either. Yeah, but I think that offensive
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: line has gotten a little bit better. I think Gercer
- 1:07:27Speaker 6: he has been okay at left tackle. Yeah. I thought
- 1:07:30Speaker 6: Trent Brown. I'm very critical of Trent Brown. You guys
- 1:07:33Speaker 6: know this. I thought he did a pretty good job
- 1:07:34Speaker 6: on Want the other night.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: Big dude Steven writes in from Fort drum Uh, thank
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: you for your service. I'm hoping for a big game
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: from Stefan Diggs for this game. Houston didn't believe in
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: him and dumped him at the first sign of his injury,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: only to get picked up by us and having a
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: thousand yard season. If it were me and his shoes,
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: I'd be taking this game very personally and as a
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: true revenge game. Also, is it wrong to feel more
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: confident about this game than the Chargers game? You know,
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: I get that.
- 1:08:04Speaker 9: I would just because I'd go back to what I
- 1:08:05Speaker 9: said about the quarterbacks, and yeah, I was.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: Worried about Herbert last week. I'm worried about the defense.
- 1:08:10Speaker 9: Ultimately, Herbert fizzled and Patriots had a really good defensive plan.
- 1:08:13Speaker 6: This is a better offense than you saw last week too.
- 1:08:15Speaker 9: Yeah, that's also probably true, especially if they had Collins
- 1:08:19Speaker 9: back in the mix.
- 1:08:20Speaker 6: No, Herbert is better than Stroud, well this year he was,
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: But this is the Texans offense is better.
- 1:08:26Speaker 9: Than Oh I'd rather have their receiving weapons then, yeah,
- 1:08:30Speaker 9: sorry for it, not lat McConkey. But but going back
- 1:08:33Speaker 9: to what I was saying, I just I think this
- 1:08:35Speaker 9: is it's going to be a little bit of a
- 1:08:36Speaker 9: rock fight.
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: And maybe the Patriots can.
- 1:08:38Speaker 9: You know, it was Washing Buffalo, I mean Ray Davis
- 1:08:40Speaker 9: took a kickoff back, you know, for a touchdown against
- 1:08:42Speaker 9: them trying to find a way to I mean, famously
- 1:08:45Speaker 9: twenty seventeen playoffs, Dean Lewis returning the kickoff for a touchdown.
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: Those those kind of points.
- 1:08:49Speaker 9: If the Patriots can steal some of those, or even
- 1:08:52Speaker 9: steal some field position with just good returns, even if
- 1:08:54Speaker 9: they don't go all the way, I think they'll go
- 1:08:55Speaker 9: a long way just to help Drake May and not
- 1:08:57Speaker 9: put it all on You've got to earn every single yard.
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: It's gonna be difficult tasks.
- 1:09:01Speaker 6: And wasn't Diggs like a free agent? Wasn't he a
- 1:09:05Speaker 6: one year deal in Houston? No, I think they made
- 1:09:10Speaker 6: I thought he was in the last year of his
- 1:09:11Speaker 6: deal when they traded him.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Maybe, whatever it is, they decided not to.
- 1:09:14Speaker 6: They didn't re sign him yet, but they didn't dump them.
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: I don't, I don't. I mean, that might be wrong.
- 1:09:18Speaker 6: I thought I thought that was only one year.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: But Angelo says Aloha from Hawaii. I'm a longtime listener
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: and first time emailer, and I'm a huge fan of
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: the show. I had a quick question regarding Sunday's game.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: Do you think the weather could play a significant role,
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: particularly with Houston not being accustomed to very cold conditions.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: I'm curious to hear your thoughts. No, they're a defensive team.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: Defense travels doesn't matter what the well.
- 1:09:42Speaker 6: I think I think it could be a factor. I
- 1:09:44Speaker 6: don't think it's going to be based on the early forecasts.
- 1:09:48Speaker 6: It doesn't sound like it's spit thirty. Yeah, and it
- 1:09:50Speaker 6: doesn't sound like any like heavy wind or you know,
- 1:09:54Speaker 6: precipitation or anything like that. But yeah, I think this
- 1:09:56Speaker 6: is a dome team, and I think that defense is
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: much better indoors then out all of that. I agree
- 1:10:03Speaker 6: with Fred's premise that defense travels, but those guys are
- 1:10:07Speaker 6: better in the dome getting off on the carpet and
- 1:10:09Speaker 6: all that stuff. Good conditions. But I don't think it's
- 1:10:12Speaker 6: going to be that bad.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: So it was really slippery, and the offenses have an
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: advantage because they know where they're going.
- 1:10:19Speaker 6: It doesn't sound like it's going to be that bad
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: now weather wise, but it's not going to be you
- 1:10:24Speaker 6: never know.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: Just wait a minute, Yeah, let's see Chris in New Hampshire.
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: Goodness gracious, yesterday's callers were a race to the bottom,
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: Todd reminding us that the game was going to be
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: a slobber knocker, then saying again when he wasn't given
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: the reaction. Craved was only outdone by Mark, a shrieking
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: ninny who wants media activism to get more flags in
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: the game, flags for hand gestures. He doesn't like Brian
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: from Lowell I miss you please call in. He's an
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: eloquent sage compared to the barbarians that typically call in.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: All right, let's go to rabel.
- 1:10:57Speaker 10: Craft today and do the Texas have the best defense.
- 1:11:05Speaker 17: It's just the best defense you've faced.
- 1:11:07Speaker 23: So yeah, of course, you know, I mean they, uh,
- 1:11:10Speaker 23: I have great talent, great scheme, They play hard and
- 1:11:13Speaker 23: respect to how hard they play, and they're just not
- 1:11:16Speaker 23: only talented, but they uh.
- 1:11:18Speaker 7: Have a play demeanor that I can appreciate because I
- 1:11:21Speaker 7: sort of a do what.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: You do defense.
- 1:11:23Speaker 13: Some people have talked about the scheme.
- 1:11:25Speaker 23: Is good, but it's just this Yeah, and again there's
- 1:11:28Speaker 23: not a whole I mean, they don't I guess necessarily,
- 1:11:33Speaker 23: maybe the volume isn't as much. I think the volume increases,
- 1:11:37Speaker 23: uh on third down, we'll you know, maybe get some
- 1:11:42Speaker 23: multiple looks and pressures and different things. But you know,
- 1:11:47Speaker 23: I think we pretty much would have an idea of
- 1:11:49Speaker 23: where they're gonna be on first and second down. They'll
- 1:11:52Speaker 23: mix in pressures and then they you know, they match
- 1:11:55Speaker 23: up and then we'll we'll get into the zone. And
- 1:11:58Speaker 23: but I think the volume probably comes more in on
- 1:12:02Speaker 23: third down.
- 1:12:06Speaker 21: Sorry, you should you appreciate their demeanor, Mike, What is
- 1:12:09Speaker 21: their play demeanor specifically defensive?
- 1:12:11Speaker 23: Well, they play you know, play to the football. You know,
- 1:12:14Speaker 23: they chase football and you know they get a lot
- 1:12:18Speaker 23: of hats at the football. They create turnovers, they play physical.
- 1:12:22Speaker 7: Do you expect that Christian Goozoaliz to practice.
- 1:12:24Speaker 23: Pay I do anticipate in being out there.
- 1:12:29Speaker 6: The fact that the fact that the Texans have so
- 1:12:31Speaker 6: many coaches who are familiar with Josh mcdanielis does that.
- 1:12:35Speaker 7: Make it extra turkey?
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: Maybe though they can provide even more health into their
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: their defense that kind of thing.
- 1:12:43Speaker 23: I mean, again, if they know what calls coming, then
- 1:12:47Speaker 23: but you should try to get those coaches. I think
- 1:12:50Speaker 23: that you know, there's certain styles of offense. Got all
- 1:12:55Speaker 23: our tape and got all theirs. So if they know
- 1:12:59Speaker 23: what Josh is on or they know what we're we're calling,
- 1:13:02Speaker 23: then they're they they gotta jump on us.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: What's the preparation like for you start to finish for
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: no a week like.
- 1:13:10Speaker 7: This same as it was last week.
- 1:13:13Speaker 23: I mean, we'll start off first a second down and
- 1:13:16Speaker 23: you know, try to come up with keys and we
- 1:13:17Speaker 23: feel like can can help our our team and make
- 1:13:23Speaker 23: sure that we formulate practice getting things done that we
- 1:13:26Speaker 23: need to get done based on you know, the time
- 1:13:29Speaker 23: of the season.
- 1:13:30Speaker 7: It is and the health.
- 1:13:30Speaker 23: And move on to third down and red zone and
- 1:13:35Speaker 23: short yardage.
- 1:13:35Speaker 7: And that's what it looks like.
- 1:13:38Speaker 21: Real nique of a challenge is who I'm just side.
- 1:13:43Speaker 23: I mean they're again, I don't think it's just one move.
- 1:13:47Speaker 23: I think there's talent, length, you know, effort. You know,
- 1:13:53Speaker 23: they don't if they get blocked, they don't stay blocked.
- 1:13:56Speaker 23: Long can can power different moves on the edge, so
- 1:14:03Speaker 23: you know they play hard against the run. It's not
- 1:14:05Speaker 23: just if you run the ball that they're taking plays off.
- 1:14:09Speaker 23: So you know, two really good uh you know book ends.
- 1:14:14Speaker 24: Given called tent to your quarterback is what goes into
- 1:14:17Speaker 24: a decision for him to you know, just take thisack
- 1:14:20Speaker 24: you want to the next play versus you know, trying
- 1:14:23Speaker 24: to trying to extend play. Meanwhile, matching a good security
- 1:14:26Speaker 24: given how pause rest of their past records.
- 1:14:29Speaker 23: Yeah, I think that that's again having never done it
- 1:14:33Speaker 23: and been in facing the fire, it would be hard
- 1:14:37Speaker 23: for me to say other than you know, try to
- 1:14:39Speaker 23: make a great decision, you know, use great ball security
- 1:14:43Speaker 23: and making sure that you know, that's all part of
- 1:14:46Speaker 23: everything that we've been working on. And you know, having
- 1:14:49Speaker 23: two hands on the football and pocket and you know,
- 1:14:54Speaker 23: just having a feel and the timing of you know,
- 1:14:56Speaker 23: when you have to get the ball out on rhythm
- 1:14:58Speaker 23: and hopefully if not being able to extend, and when
- 1:15:03Speaker 23: you extend, making sure that you're you're good with the
- 1:15:06Speaker 23: football going up into the pockets with.
- 1:15:09Speaker 25: Will Anderson and this defense beings so good at forcing
- 1:15:12Speaker 25: offenses off the field.
- 1:15:13Speaker 7: On third downs.
- 1:15:15Speaker 25: Does that change the way that you're going about thinking
- 1:15:17Speaker 25: about and Josh that play calling on first and second.
- 1:15:22Speaker 23: Well, we never want to sit there and be in
- 1:15:23Speaker 23: third and twelve were third and fifteen last week we
- 1:15:26Speaker 23: picked it up. You know, Chargers were ranked the same
- 1:15:29Speaker 23: as the Texans. And you know, we're gonna go play
- 1:15:33Speaker 23: the game. That's what we're gonna do. We're gonna play
- 1:15:35Speaker 23: the game. We're gonna enjoy it, just like we did
- 1:15:38Speaker 23: last week. And you know, again, you.
- 1:15:43Speaker 7: Have too many of those I think it's probably a
- 1:15:44Speaker 7: bad thing.
- 1:15:45Speaker 23: But if we find ourselves in those situations, then we'll
- 1:15:49Speaker 23: have to just get get ourselves out of them.
- 1:15:51Speaker 3: There's one link between you and Demiko.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: It's your coaching the teams.
- 1:15:55Speaker 17: That you played for for one of the things you
- 1:15:57Speaker 17: played for in your career.
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: Just curious what does that you to coach who you.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: Played for in the playoffs?
- 1:16:05Speaker 7: Yeah, no, I appreciate that question, Mike.
- 1:16:06Speaker 23: I I don't want to, you know, I think it's
- 1:16:09Speaker 23: an honor to coach in this league. I do There's
- 1:16:13Speaker 23: only so many opportunities that you get, and to be
- 1:16:16Speaker 23: able to do it here I think is a special meaningful.
- 1:16:19Speaker 23: But I don't want to reflect on that too much.
- 1:16:24Speaker 23: I want to focus on the game and the imponent,
- 1:16:26Speaker 23: and I think we've covered a lot of that here
- 1:16:28Speaker 23: when I got here from CJ.
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: Stroud playing as well as he did is at rookie.
- 1:16:32Speaker 26: What did you notice your last year in Tennessee about
- 1:16:34Speaker 26: what Demiko was doing to turn that program around so quickly.
- 1:16:38Speaker 23: I mean they got a lot of draft picks and
- 1:16:41Speaker 23: they signed some good free agents.
- 1:16:43Speaker 6: What Nick Caley is running on offense, how similar is
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: that to Josh's offense.
- 1:16:47Speaker 23: I think there's some carryover, there's some some LA stuff,
- 1:16:50Speaker 23: and there's some stuff that he probably learned when he
- 1:16:52Speaker 23: was here. And then you know what you do is,
- 1:16:55Speaker 23: you know, come in with a base idea, start in
- 1:17:00Speaker 23: the run game, and then protection, uh, and then whatever
- 1:17:04Speaker 23: ideas that the new coaches have. You kind of formulate
- 1:17:07Speaker 23: and kind of figure out what fits and what everybody's
- 1:17:10Speaker 23: comfortable with. So I'm sure there's elements of every stop
- 1:17:14Speaker 23: that some of those guys have made. He's over minded
- 1:17:17Speaker 23: everybody all year of your players, especially to have fun
- 1:17:20Speaker 23: and enjoy this.
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: Why has that.
- 1:17:22Speaker 23: Been so important and is it more important now as
- 1:17:25Speaker 23: the games get picked? I mean, I just feel like
- 1:17:30Speaker 23: you put a lot into it. You know, this isn't
- 1:17:33Speaker 23: the easiest profession in the world, and you know.
- 1:17:37Speaker 7: We got to there.
- 1:17:38Speaker 23: We only get one chance a week, and so if
- 1:17:41Speaker 23: we only try to focus on having fun during the game,
- 1:17:44Speaker 23: it's a small window of our week, and so we
- 1:17:48Speaker 23: want to we want to bring good people in here
- 1:17:50Speaker 23: that we enjoy being around and that are like minded,
- 1:17:54Speaker 23: and you know, I want to try to exhibit the
- 1:17:58Speaker 23: qualities of the identity that we wish to play with,
- 1:18:03Speaker 23: you know, and enjoy it and obviously work, but then
- 1:18:06Speaker 23: go out to the game and let them have fun
- 1:18:08Speaker 23: and compete, and you know that one play is not
- 1:18:12Speaker 23: going to make the difference, and that we have to
- 1:18:14Speaker 23: keep going.
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: See that lie.
- 1:18:16Speaker 26: Back in October, you decided to go to the individual introductions,
- 1:18:20Speaker 26: breaking with tradition that you were a part of for
- 1:18:22Speaker 26: so many years with the group coming out and that
- 1:18:25Speaker 26: that was sort of a ballicheck, I guess and team
- 1:18:27Speaker 26: invention back in two thousand and two. How's that worked out?
- 1:18:33Speaker 7: I mean, they looked pretty good the other night.
- 1:18:35Speaker 23: I meant, it's as good as as much as our
- 1:18:38Speaker 23: fans like our players, and they cheer and the fireworks
- 1:18:41Speaker 23: and everything.
- 1:18:42Speaker 7: I thought it was cool. I mean, I don't know.
- 1:18:45Speaker 23: The first week we had a little couple of kinks,
- 1:18:47Speaker 23: but other than that, it's like everything else, you get
- 1:18:50Speaker 23: better the more you do it.
- 1:18:53Speaker 25: Drake, I'm curious is posting interview with the cameras, he
- 1:18:57Speaker 25: made sure the offensive line was behind him, and then
- 1:19:00Speaker 25: also when he was speaking with us, he mentioned how
- 1:19:03Speaker 25: maybe it wasn't his best game, but that's why you
- 1:19:05Speaker 25: love the teammates. Why is it so important of a player,
- 1:19:08Speaker 25: especially like a leader on this team, uh, kind of
- 1:19:11Speaker 25: acknowledge that you do the things he does well?
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:19:14Speaker 7: I think that's what you do as a leader.
- 1:19:16Speaker 23: You try to give credit and accept blame and put
- 1:19:21Speaker 23: it on you. I think that's all part of that,
- 1:19:25Speaker 23: as being a quarterback in this league and knowing that nobody's.
- 1:19:30Speaker 7: Doing this by themselves.
- 1:19:31Speaker 23: And so and have some good days and bad days,
- 1:19:35Speaker 23: but I think having gratitude is important growing in one
- 1:19:39Speaker 23: of the better.
- 1:19:39Speaker 7: Mind backers in the league.
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: What makes him so challenging to go against?
- 1:19:42Speaker 6: And how have you made a senior doubles since he.
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: Coached the team?
- 1:19:46Speaker 7: Well, I think he's again he's a great leader. I
- 1:19:49Speaker 7: think he starts there.
- 1:19:50Speaker 23: He's got great leadership in the middle, a good skill set,
- 1:19:54Speaker 23: and you know, we talk about a journey to this
- 1:19:57Speaker 23: National Football League and to a career. I haven't been undrafted,
- 1:20:01Speaker 23: and his story which is really special.
- 1:20:04Speaker 7: And you know.
- 1:20:05Speaker 23: I'll always appreciate the the year that that as he
- 1:20:08Speaker 23: spent with us, still stay in contact with him. So
- 1:20:13Speaker 23: he's done a lot for me personally and my family.
- 1:20:17Speaker 23: So I always appreciate that. Wish nothing but the best
- 1:20:19Speaker 23: for him. Uh, he knows that. And just you know,
- 1:20:24Speaker 23: I think being more comfortable in the defense and you know,
- 1:20:28Speaker 23: coverage and you know, more stuff on third down. I
- 1:20:32Speaker 23: think he just feels a little bit more comfortable, you know,
- 1:20:36Speaker 23: longer that he's been here in his system.
- 1:20:38Speaker 19: What you think about Durelle Taylor that need you want
- 1:20:40Speaker 19: to kind of break.
- 1:20:41Speaker 23: Him in and work with him, Well, we had had
- 1:20:43Speaker 23: conversations with him in free agency. I ended up going
- 1:20:47Speaker 23: somewhere else, and then when he became available, we got
- 1:20:51Speaker 23: together and had a conversation and we were able to
- 1:20:54Speaker 23: bring him in.
- 1:20:55Speaker 11: Curious with your in game captains and how you announced
- 1:20:57Speaker 11: those on Friday showing the guy's high school tape.
- 1:20:59Speaker 8: And all that, how did you come up with that idea?
- 1:21:01Speaker 11: And has any of that tape stood out to you
- 1:21:03Speaker 11: or impressed you.
- 1:21:04Speaker 23: There are some surprisingly bad high school football tape highlights
- 1:21:09Speaker 23: and then there's some good ones. Yeah, just trying to
- 1:21:16Speaker 23: keep things. I guess light on a Friday tape, And
- 1:21:20Speaker 23: you know, I think that when you get an odd
- 1:21:23Speaker 23: number of captains and other guys get votes and you
- 1:21:26Speaker 23: feel like guys are for special circumstances or have shown
- 1:21:31Speaker 23: good leadership or good way to recognize somebody and then
- 1:21:37Speaker 23: just a way to announce them or they lead off
- 1:21:41Speaker 23: the Friday tape. You know their highlights, they were steal
- 1:21:44Speaker 23: any places from those. It's not the best tape, you know,
- 1:21:48Speaker 23: it's it's not the best tape, but.
- 1:21:51Speaker 7: They have you know, we have fun with it, like the.
- 1:21:54Speaker 6: Zach Corus of the other the other week to turnovers
- 1:21:56Speaker 6: tone punches or takeaways tone punches. I know you guys
- 1:21:59Speaker 6: put an emphasis on that before the Ravens game, because
- 1:22:01Speaker 6: you continued put an emphasis on.
- 1:22:03Speaker 7: Takeaway every single day.
- 1:22:04Speaker 23: The practice script hasn't changed, Our focus hasn't changed. We
- 1:22:11Speaker 23: don't emphasize them in bunches. We emphasize them the same.
- 1:22:14Speaker 23: So I wish that the more I emphasize them, the
- 1:22:17Speaker 23: more we would turn the ball over.
- 1:22:19Speaker 7: It doesn't work that way.
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: Likes.
- 1:22:21Speaker 6: What makes Denico Autry is so good at blocking cakes.
- 1:22:24Speaker 23: Great knack, great feel, great length, is timing because he
- 1:22:29Speaker 23: has you know, he's a bigger player that has great length,
- 1:22:35Speaker 23: and so when he gets into a crease, he doesn't
- 1:22:37Speaker 23: just go up right away.
- 1:22:39Speaker 7: He he's able to kind.
- 1:22:40Speaker 23: Of push for two or three steps and then able
- 1:22:44Speaker 23: to get great length, so he's not just standing at
- 1:22:47Speaker 23: the line of scrimmage trying to block them. You know,
- 1:22:50Speaker 23: he gets into the line or he is able to swim,
- 1:22:53Speaker 23: and you know that'll be a huge key. He's got
- 1:22:55Speaker 23: fourteen in his career and just we have to do
- 1:22:58Speaker 23: everything that we can and to make it not be fifteen.
- 1:23:00Speaker 18: Mike, when you're talking a lot about the Texas defense,
- 1:23:03Speaker 18: obviously it's one of their strengths.
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: With their offense is pretty good as well, especially Windy
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: Marshes had a hundred yard game. What makes that offense
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: tough to see?
- 1:23:10Speaker 7: Well, I think they're they're gaining confidence.
- 1:23:11Speaker 23: It looked like in a run game and the physicality
- 1:23:14Speaker 23: in which they played with the other night. And when
- 1:23:16Speaker 23: you can do that, then it marries with you know,
- 1:23:19Speaker 23: your play action opens up and your space is over
- 1:23:21Speaker 23: the middle, open up your boot game and all mary's together.
- 1:23:25Speaker 23: So that to me looks like what they would want
- 1:23:28Speaker 23: to do. They had a lot of success with it
- 1:23:30Speaker 23: the other night, but they know they played physical, they
- 1:23:34Speaker 23: ran the football. If they have defensive front four along
- 1:23:37Speaker 23: with the defensive backs, force a quarterback to identify earlier
- 1:23:41Speaker 23: and have to release the ball even earlier than normal.
- 1:23:44Speaker 23: Well hopefully not earlier, but hopefully on time. Hopefully on time.
- 1:23:48Speaker 23: And you need great spacing. Receivers need a match the
- 1:23:53Speaker 23: speed of the pass rush when.
- 1:23:56Speaker 7: We throw it, so that we can play on time.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: One of the problems c J Stroud poses, did you
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: just move.
- 1:24:02Speaker 24: Out with him?
- 1:24:05Speaker 7: Uh? No, I mean I've met with CJ. But well
- 1:24:10Speaker 7: I did, he wasn't there.
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: What are some of the problems that you posed.
- 1:24:13Speaker 23: Specifically, well, uh, he's athletic enough to extend, but also
- 1:24:21Speaker 23: uh the pocket presence and that you want. You know,
- 1:24:25Speaker 23: he can he can turn his back to the defense
- 1:24:27Speaker 23: and come out of there and throw play action.
- 1:24:30Speaker 7: Does a good job on a boot game. He keeps
- 1:24:32Speaker 7: his eyes downfield.
- 1:24:34Speaker 23: He's accurate, so he kind of gives you a little
- 1:24:38Speaker 23: bit of both as far as you know, the ability
- 1:24:41Speaker 23: to extend plays, but always keeping his eyes down the field.
- 1:24:46Speaker 7: I say ask you those the development of players.
- 1:24:49Speaker 6: Zat core doesn't play callor defense.
- 1:24:51Speaker 7: How much does he know? That's the seasons?
- 1:24:54Speaker 23: Well, hopefully as the season goes on, we we all
- 1:24:56Speaker 23: have gotten better, you know, including Zach, and you know
- 1:25:00Speaker 23: the comfort level and the input that everybody's trying to
- 1:25:03Speaker 23: have each week to uh to build a plan. You know,
- 1:25:06Speaker 23: I'm very appreciative of not only Zach, but but every
- 1:25:09Speaker 23: coach here. They put a lot of time in. It
- 1:25:11Speaker 23: means a lot to them and they want to give
- 1:25:14Speaker 23: their players the best opportunity to succeed. So Zach has
- 1:25:18Speaker 23: improved much like our football team.
- 1:25:20Speaker 7: Like in the.
- 1:25:21Speaker 18: Diversity of Litch pressure you guys brought last weekend, how
- 1:25:23Speaker 18: much of that is just a reflection of your trust
- 1:25:25Speaker 18: and the guys in the back end kind of.
- 1:25:27Speaker 23: Hold up, all yeah, I mean you have to be
- 1:25:29Speaker 23: able to do that. I mean, the more you rushed,
- 1:25:31Speaker 23: the unless you haven't coverage. That's no secret.
- 1:25:34Speaker 7: You know.
- 1:25:34Speaker 23: We just want to be, you know, trying to disrupt
- 1:25:37Speaker 23: the quarterback based on the plan and based on how
- 1:25:39Speaker 23: the game's going.
- 1:25:41Speaker 7: But those guys have to do a good job, you know, whether.
- 1:25:44Speaker 23: We're we're matched, or we're playing some zone coverage behind it.
- 1:25:48Speaker 7: Thanks guys for thinking that.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: Okay, that's Mike Rabel. What do we learn?
- 1:25:58Speaker 6: Not surprisingly, had a lot of really good things to
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: say about the Houston defense right out of the gate.
- 1:26:02Speaker 6: Karen Gurighey and asked him if it was the best
- 1:26:05Speaker 6: defense that they will see this year, and he yeah,
- 1:26:08Speaker 6: of course, And he went into a lot of the
- 1:26:11Speaker 6: different reasons why. Just not overly surprising, but he indicated
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: that Christian Gonzalez will be out of practice. That's a
- 1:26:20Speaker 6: good sign. That means at least he has a chance
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: to play Sunday, and I think that he I agree
- 1:26:28Speaker 6: with some of the He was asked some questions about
- 1:26:30Speaker 6: the Titans the Texans offense as well, and CJ. Stroud specifically,
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: And I do think this is an offense that's capable
- 1:26:38Speaker 6: of playing better than it did Monday.
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: No, and I count on it, So I don't.
- 1:26:44Speaker 6: I think, you know, you can look at the way
- 1:26:46Speaker 6: the Patriots defense played against the Chargers and say, well,
- 1:26:50Speaker 6: if they did that to the Chargers, and you watch
- 1:26:52Speaker 6: the way the Texans played, you know, as sloppy as
- 1:26:55Speaker 6: they were with you know, all the the ball security
- 1:26:59Speaker 6: issues that they had, this is going to be a mismatch.
- 1:27:01Speaker 6: The Patriots defense is going to be the one that
- 1:27:03Speaker 6: everybody's talking about after the game. But I think Mike
- 1:27:06Speaker 6: was talking a lot about some of the things that
- 1:27:08Speaker 6: the Texans are capable of doing offensively, and Stroud in particular,
- 1:27:11Speaker 6: that would lead you to believe that it might not
- 1:27:14Speaker 6: be the same.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: Right. No, I you can count on Stroud not having
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: those mistakes this game. I'm pretty confident about that, all right.
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: Eight five to five Pass five hundred is the Hotline
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: podcast at Patriots dot com as the email address. Mike
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: went to the locker room to get a feel for
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: the locker room and to get into the dig scrum,
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: and also to keep an eye on Evan.
- 1:27:40Speaker 6: Be interesting to see what Diggs has to say. He's
- 1:27:42Speaker 6: usually a pretty interesting interview.
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: I thought you were going to be saying, it's interesting
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: to see what Evan is going to be doing in
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: the locker room.
- 1:27:49Speaker 6: Yeah, well, Mike will let us know how the eye
- 1:27:51Speaker 6: on Evan as you always ask for, and Mike never
- 1:27:54Speaker 6: seems to be able to give us anything on that.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: You know, I'm going to ask the question, give me something.
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: It's like, what was the time that ever went out
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: to practice? And I think we were like some guy
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: with the injury and you know, was he wearing it?
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: I really didn't notice it. Total one job and like.
- 1:28:14Speaker 6: They would be like today, what ad Gonzales look like?
- 1:28:17Speaker 6: I didn't even notice him, That's what.
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: I wasn't looking for him.
- 1:28:21Speaker 6: I didn't. I didn't notice, right if he had a
- 1:28:24Speaker 6: brace on?
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, Okay, let's get back to the phones.
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: Eldred has been hanging on. What's up? Eldred?
- 1:28:32Speaker 27: Hey fellaw, y'all doing good?
- 1:28:34Speaker 7: It's biggie, Yeah, not much.
- 1:28:37Speaker 27: I would blow, but I'm in the middle of summer,
- 1:28:39Speaker 27: so I can't blow the home.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: But all right, don't get in trouble.
- 1:28:44Speaker 9: I won't do that.
- 1:28:45Speaker 13: Yeah, I know.
- 1:28:46Speaker 27: Y'all was talking about Garrett Wilson and what you can.
- 1:28:49Speaker 27: But like I said, don't worry about real Cambell too.
- 1:28:51Speaker 27: But I have noticed if you looked at some of
- 1:28:53Speaker 27: the game for him, uh, Stevenson, Montfort and Haunter Henry,
- 1:28:58Speaker 27: they always missing it jip. No, they'd throw ebo, but.
- 1:29:01Speaker 13: They don't hit nobody.
- 1:29:02Speaker 27: You know, they just go right by them. And I'm
- 1:29:05Speaker 27: just one of they feed it up. And Yeah, this
- 1:29:07Speaker 27: new receiver.
- 1:29:08Speaker 13: They started into the practice squad, I.
- 1:29:11Speaker 27: Think he's been with these leave by eight eight years
- 1:29:14Speaker 27: or nine years.
- 1:29:15Speaker 6: Trent Sherfield. Yeah, he's a veteran.
- 1:29:21Speaker 7: You know.
- 1:29:22Speaker 6: My guess is that's just insurance at this point. You know,
- 1:29:25Speaker 6: someone gets banged up.
- 1:29:27Speaker 27: Yep, Yeah, Okay, I'm just wondering. I know he's by
- 1:29:31Speaker 27: amost thirty, right, So I'm just one. Why don't give
- 1:29:35Speaker 27: a back guy of paul a shot like John Giles?
- 1:29:39Speaker 6: John Giles. Yeah, they, I mean they they they did
- 1:29:43Speaker 6: elevate Jeremiah Webb last game, but then he was inactive
- 1:29:47Speaker 6: in the game. I mean, I think it's going to
- 1:29:49Speaker 6: come down to Eldrid the guys that they have that
- 1:29:51Speaker 6: have been there, you know, it's going to be Digs, uh,
- 1:29:54Speaker 6: you know, and then the other guys are going to
- 1:29:57Speaker 6: fall in behind them. I think I go Dig's boot, Williams,
- 1:30:02Speaker 6: Douglas Chisholm. Those are the five guys you're going to
- 1:30:04Speaker 6: rely on. And as long as those five are healthy,
- 1:30:08Speaker 6: I'm not sure you'll see anybody else.
- 1:30:10Speaker 27: Ye well maybe no. Okay, this all the question I have.
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: Okay, thanks Aldred, all right, okay, thanks. Uh let's go
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: from North Carolina. We're going to cal rialto California and
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: it's Sean. What's up?
- 1:30:24Speaker 6: Sean?
- 1:30:27Speaker 7: Hello?
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: Seawan? No, Sean, No, Sean, No, Shawn's a no show.
- 1:30:34Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, that's all right. Did you take anything else
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: side of the press conference? And you always ask me
- 1:30:40Speaker 6: what my thoughts are now?
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: And I know we wanted to say, you know, what's
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: the theme going to be? And it's going to be
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: the Texans defense.
- 1:30:47Speaker 6: We kind of figured that that would be yep.
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: And you know, what's the status of Gonzales. We got
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: that he's going to be out there. So yeah, pretty uneventful,
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: but good press conference. Uh, let's to bb in New Hampshire.
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: Writing in might be a silly ass because every team
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: is unique and multifaceted, as is every game. But do
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: you think that Texas might have played or have played
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: anyone this year that is similar to the Patriots. Is
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: the blend of the Patriots' strengths one one of one?
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: Or are we one of one? That's saying that the
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: kids say one of one? Or are there any teams
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: of the league that you see similarities with? Ultimately, it
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: doesn't matter because we all we got, we all we need.
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: But curious to hear your perspective.
- 1:31:34Speaker 6: I mean, they've played a lot of good teams. I
- 1:31:36Speaker 6: mean I don't know stylistically which ones of those most
- 1:31:40Speaker 6: closely resemble the Patriots. You know, maybe that'd be a
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: better question for Evan. He would tell you the Yeah,
- 1:31:46Speaker 6: you know the schemes and the you know, the game
- 1:31:50Speaker 6: plans and whatnot. But you know they've played the Just
- 1:31:53Speaker 6: looking at that, and I said this, yesterday played eight
- 1:31:55Speaker 6: teams with ten or more wins. That's a lot.
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: They play the Bengals.
- 1:32:02Speaker 6: And that's it's now eleven. They did not play the Bengals,
- 1:32:06Speaker 6: but you know they played They played the Rams, the Jags,
- 1:32:11Speaker 6: the Seahawks, the forty nine Ers, the Broncos. Obviously the
- 1:32:14Speaker 6: Jags twice, the Bills, and the Chargers. That's that's a lot.
- 1:32:18Speaker 6: That's that's a lot of playoff teams. They're five and
- 1:32:21Speaker 6: four in those nine games, you know, count in Pittsburgh.
- 1:32:25Speaker 6: You know, that's that's a lot. So I think they've
- 1:32:28Speaker 6: been tested.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: Perillo Texans have edge because they're tested.
- 1:32:34Speaker 6: No, I think it actually works the opposite way, to
- 1:32:36Speaker 6: be honest with you, I think that you get kind
- 1:32:38Speaker 6: of beat up when you're playing a lot of good teams.
- 1:32:40Speaker 6: And that's why everybody was so quick to point out
- 1:32:43Speaker 6: that the easy schedule doesn't necessarily equal failure in the playoffs.
- 1:32:48Speaker 6: There's been a lot of teams that had easy schedules
- 1:32:50Speaker 6: and they get to the playoffs in a good spot
- 1:32:52Speaker 6: and there with a lot of wins. They play home
- 1:32:55Speaker 6: games and they they go. And that's what the Patriots
- 1:32:57Speaker 6: are doing right now.
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: Yep. Bradley in Kansas City, drakes throws downfield have been
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: amazing this year, and I was wondering if you guys
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: think his basketball background is possibly responsible for the great
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: touch he has on the ball. I've heard many players
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: say he throws a very catchable ball, and the deep
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: throws for him feel like a shooter's perfect three pointer.
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: Other quarterbacks credit baseball to their ability to change arm angles,
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: but I feel Drake's basketball background contributes to his amazing
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: touch on the ball.
- 1:33:28Speaker 6: Thoughts on this, I mean, I would it's probably worth
- 1:33:32Speaker 6: asking him if he feels that way. Just in my
- 1:33:36Speaker 6: mind's eye, I would think, no, No, it's a completely
- 1:33:39Speaker 6: different baseball and football. You're throwing a ball. Now. I
- 1:33:43Speaker 6: understand there's a there's a mechanic to throwing a football
- 1:33:47Speaker 6: that's different than throwing a baseball, but it's still like
- 1:33:49Speaker 6: you're throwing in basketball. You're shooting at three pointer by
- 1:33:52Speaker 6: flicking your wrists right like r not throwing the ball
- 1:33:56Speaker 6: with your wrist down like. That's to me an entirely
- 1:33:59Speaker 6: different skill set.
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: I agree, but you never know. I think that's I said,
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: it might be worth asking him. I think being a
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: multi sport athlete helps. I think that helps everybody exactly.
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: I can't tell you how many conversations I've had with people.
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: You know, Devin mccordy is one that I really remember,
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: just how much he felt like being diverse in their
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: sports as a as a youth player really helped them. Yep,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: Dan and Everett. Do you think it'd be worth considering
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: putting Henderson back to receive kickoffs against a great defense
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: like Houston. Getting extra yards on special teams could make
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: a huge difference when it comes to scoring points.
- 1:34:37Speaker 6: I like that. I like that suggestion. Yeah, I think
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: it would be worth it at this At this pointless
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: so I understand why they took him off of it
- 1:34:44Speaker 6: because he got a bigger role on offense. You are
- 1:34:46Speaker 6: missing Stevenson for a while. You needed to keep him healthy.
- 1:34:49Speaker 6: But at this point, you know, any one of these
- 1:34:53Speaker 6: games is potentially your last game, so you're not really
- 1:34:55Speaker 6: saving anybody for anything anymore. I think that's a good,
- 1:34:59Speaker 6: good suggestion.
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: Okay, I like that, But injury is a concern.
- 1:35:03Speaker 6: Oh yeah, no, I don't want a guy to get hurt, right,
- 1:35:06Speaker 6: But like, you might need to score on the margins
- 1:35:09Speaker 6: in this game, and that's he could he be explosive.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: Absolutely, We never what about Marcus Jones on kickoffs?
- 1:35:17Speaker 6: They haven't They haven't done that at all. I think
- 1:35:21Speaker 6: they feel like it's better to have an offensive player
- 1:35:25Speaker 6: and you know, running the ball and with more power,
- 1:35:28Speaker 6: you know, the potential to break tackles. But I would
- 1:35:32Speaker 6: I would use I would use Marcus Jones on both.
- 1:35:34Speaker 6: Now that might also have been a wear and tear thing.
- 1:35:37Speaker 6: They didn't want too much on his plate.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: Brad's in Ohio on the hotline. What's up, Brad?
- 1:35:43Speaker 8: Hello, guys, how you doing today?
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: Okay, great?
- 1:35:47Speaker 8: Great? I just got a couple of observations and question. James,
- 1:35:51Speaker 8: and I know you've been asked a multiple times already
- 1:35:54Speaker 8: about the Ben Brown, the upgrade at running in even
- 1:35:59Speaker 8: a past protection. I think to a degree he was
- 1:36:02Speaker 8: He's been helped a little bit better than Wilson at
- 1:36:06Speaker 8: that's simply because he was he's younger. And the guy
- 1:36:10Speaker 8: that called about the basketball, I will say that fingertips
- 1:36:17Speaker 8: play a vital role in being able to shoot a
- 1:36:20Speaker 8: basketball effectively. So that being said, fingertips on a football,
- 1:36:26Speaker 8: I would assume have that same, uh, you know, kind
- 1:36:31Speaker 8: of feeling like you get when you when you got
- 1:36:34Speaker 8: when you know you shoot a three pointer, you know
- 1:36:36Speaker 8: you shoot a three pointer, And it's kind of so
- 1:36:39Speaker 8: in that regard, I would say, maybe there's a little
- 1:36:41Speaker 8: correlation there.
- 1:36:43Speaker 6: Maybe I'll try I'll try to think of it Friday.
- 1:36:48Speaker 6: Usually I go in the locker rooms on Fridays. I'll
- 1:36:50Speaker 6: try to remember that and I'll ask him. I'll ask him.
- 1:36:53Speaker 6: See what he says, good quick, It is a good question.
- 1:36:57Speaker 8: He asked that didn't and that made me say think
- 1:37:00Speaker 8: about it because I was thinking about asking you other stuff,
- 1:37:02Speaker 8: and then he said that. And I used to coach
- 1:37:04Speaker 8: basketball and players, so I think the fingertips thing would
- 1:37:09Speaker 8: have some kind of maybe upgrade help. But then my
- 1:37:13Speaker 8: last thing I have is what can we do? And
- 1:37:19Speaker 8: we've had a great season and I hope we keep
- 1:37:21Speaker 8: moving on. I really I agree with you all. I
- 1:37:23Speaker 8: don't see anyone that's really capable of pretty much. We're
- 1:37:28Speaker 8: pretty even with anyone. So what can we do to
- 1:37:32Speaker 8: keep make Daniels them? Marone at New England at all calls?
- 1:37:36Speaker 8: Do you guys have any idea what we can do
- 1:37:39Speaker 8: toge there?
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: Yeah, Pam, please pay them. But I mean Marone has
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: been around. I don't know, like you know how many
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: teams are after him. But you know, in thanks for
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: the call, Brad. With McDaniels, he might get another shot
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: at a head coach. And you know, the only way
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: you you could keep him if that's the case, is
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: if you pay him a lot, because he's going to
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: make a ton of money as a head coach, but like.
- 1:38:09Speaker 6: Right now, you probably don't have to worry about it
- 1:38:11Speaker 6: as much because he's still getting Raiders money. But yeah,
- 1:38:14Speaker 6: I'm with Fred one hundred percent. Make it worth his while.
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: Yeah, yep, because they all say, oh, you know, here's
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: where I want to be, but they all have that
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: competitive thing.
- 1:38:26Speaker 6: And I do think to a large extent, Josh does
- 1:38:30Speaker 6: want to be here. But I think you're right in
- 1:38:34Speaker 6: the end, if if he gets another opportunity, and he
- 1:38:37Speaker 6: really wants another opportunity, then he's going to have a
- 1:38:39Speaker 6: hard time turning it down.
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: H Danny's in Daytona.
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: Hey Danny, can.
- 1:38:45Speaker 22: You guys hear me?
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: Fred?
- 1:38:47Speaker 22: Paul yep, yep, all right, Yeah. I was hoping to
- 1:38:51Speaker 22: have Evan and Mike too. But Paul, this will take
- 1:38:55Speaker 22: to your take. Your guys have been talking about you know,
- 1:38:58Speaker 22: Zoe Lac and Bertane and uh what was his name?
- 1:39:01Speaker 22: Crazy Murray on ninety eight and even Felger too.
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:39:06Speaker 22: They're talking about what do you think about this pitch
- 1:39:09Speaker 22: heaven Will Campbell will come in sliding him in decision.
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: For this season.
- 1:39:14Speaker 22: Next season, they're talking about sliding Will Campbell into left
- 1:39:17Speaker 22: guard to make him, you know Bee that true all
- 1:39:21Speaker 22: pro guard that they he was. You know, mock draft
- 1:39:24Speaker 22: had him coming in. Now, it's not an indictment on
- 1:39:27Speaker 22: Vrabel if they do do that saying that, oh, he
- 1:39:29Speaker 22: was a bust. If they move him to left guard,
- 1:39:32Speaker 22: you keep Garrett Bradbury at center, You keep the rookie
- 1:39:37Speaker 22: behind Garrett Bradbury to learn how to play center in
- 1:39:40Speaker 22: the NFL since he only did it short period of
- 1:39:42Speaker 22: time at Georgia. And then you keep a Win New
- 1:39:45Speaker 22: at right guard, and then Moses still at right tackle.
- 1:39:48Speaker 22: And since this draft is loaded with tackle prospects, you
- 1:39:53Speaker 22: go out and you try to get a first tackle
- 1:39:56Speaker 22: in the first round. Even though we're picking out the bottom,
- 1:39:59Speaker 22: you're still trying to find the left tackle and then
- 1:40:01Speaker 22: get your right tackle.
- 1:40:02Speaker 12: What do you think about that?
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: Listen, If they do that, then it tells me that
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: they know stuff about Will Campbell that tells them he's
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: not going to be the great tackle we hope he's
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: going to be. I don't love I don't think that's
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: going to happen, though.
- 1:40:18Speaker 6: Now I'm not dismissing it, Danny. I think there's a
- 1:40:21Speaker 6: chance that that happens. But I would not want to
- 1:40:24Speaker 6: do that by taking a tackle in the first round
- 1:40:27Speaker 6: this year, Like I don't want to take tackles back
- 1:40:29Speaker 6: to back years in the first round.
- 1:40:31Speaker 7: I agree with.
- 1:40:32Speaker 6: Fred I think I don't think that that would be
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: I think that would be disappointing if you had to
- 1:40:36Speaker 6: do that. I'm not dismissing it. I don't think it'll
- 1:40:39Speaker 6: happen in year one. I think if Will Campbell makes
- 1:40:41Speaker 6: a transition to guard, I don't think it'll be next year, right.
- 1:40:45Speaker 6: I think they'll give him more time. But I understand
- 1:40:48Speaker 6: what you're talking about, Danny.
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: I don't think it.
- 1:40:51Speaker 6: I look at it as both of those guys switching,
- 1:40:54Speaker 6: you know, Wilson going to center, Campbell going to guard.
- 1:40:57Speaker 6: But maybe that's not for another year after this in case,
- 1:41:02Speaker 6: I think they want to see more before they make
- 1:41:03Speaker 6: those kinds of rash decisions exactly.
- 1:41:06Speaker 22: It's not an indictment on the players.
- 1:41:08Speaker 6: They're good, well, yeah, a little bit.
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: I mean you drafted him as a tackle.
- 1:41:14Speaker 22: To play tackle, yeah, and I think he's worked out
- 1:41:17Speaker 22: perfect so far this season.
- 1:41:18Speaker 11: But I think for his.
- 1:41:20Speaker 22: Career going forward, if he really wants to be like
- 1:41:23Speaker 22: sitting in Canada, Ohio, possibly or sure, I think he
- 1:41:27Speaker 22: should be playing guard.
- 1:41:28Speaker 6: To be honest, well, well if but I'm saying, if
- 1:41:31Speaker 6: you're right, it is a little bit of an indictment,
- 1:41:35Speaker 6: you know. And I'm just it is like you drafted
- 1:41:38Speaker 6: him to play tackle, and if you think he's better
- 1:41:40Speaker 6: at guard, then that's not great. But I don't I'm
- 1:41:44Speaker 6: not there yet. I didn't. I didn't see I think
- 1:41:48Speaker 6: I think that Campbell has been okay as the left tackle.
- 1:41:52Speaker 6: I don't think he's just been as quite as effective
- 1:41:54Speaker 6: as I think he's been made out to be. But
- 1:41:56Speaker 6: I also don't think it's been a problem. I don't
- 1:41:58Speaker 6: think it's been a train wreck or anything like that
- 1:42:00Speaker 6: where you said, like, oh my god, they got to
- 1:42:02Speaker 6: move this guy because he he can't play the position
- 1:42:04Speaker 6: he I think most weeks he's he's fine. There are
- 1:42:08Speaker 6: some matchups that he struggled with.
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: Thanks for the call.
- 1:42:11Speaker 6: He's also going to get better. I think he'll get
- 1:42:13Speaker 6: stronger and you know, and get a little bit better too.
- 1:42:16Speaker 6: I wouldn't do this in one year.
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: If if they did do what Danny's talking about next year,
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: would you equate it at all to what they did
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: with mccordy, Because they drafted him as a corner.
- 1:42:28Speaker 6: Yeah, and that's what I'm saying. It's not I agree
- 1:42:29Speaker 6: with Danny's premise, Like it's not a disaster. Like Devin
- 1:42:33Speaker 6: mccordy went from being a cornerback to a Pro Bowl safety,
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: and you know, everybody said, you know now, but he
- 1:42:40Speaker 6: was a top four pick right that. That to me
- 1:42:43Speaker 6: is part of the difference. I don't think it's quite
- 1:42:49Speaker 6: the same, but I understand what you're talking about. It's
- 1:42:52Speaker 6: it's something to think about, like would you have done
- 1:42:55Speaker 6: it if you knew that he was going to have would.
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: Have an okay tackle or a Pro Bowl guard out
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: of him?
- 1:43:03Speaker 6: And that's why I think Danny would say a Pro
- 1:43:05Speaker 6: Bowl guard. I think as long as he's serviceable at tackle,
- 1:43:08Speaker 6: I think that's more important, all right. You know, Like
- 1:43:11Speaker 6: I looked at like the Kansas City Chiefs right when
- 1:43:17Speaker 6: their rookie left tackle was out, Josh Simmons. He was
- 1:43:22Speaker 6: out for personal reasons in the middle of the season,
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: and then late in the year he ended up on
- 1:43:26Speaker 6: ir Their right tackles was a problem all year. They're
- 1:43:31Speaker 6: inside guys are excellent. I think all three of them,
- 1:43:35Speaker 6: or either Pro bowlers or all pros create Humphrey Trey
- 1:43:39Speaker 6: Smith and the other ones escaping me. But at least
- 1:43:43Speaker 6: those two like you can have good guards and your
- 1:43:47Speaker 6: your line struggles, right like, because if you if you,
- 1:43:50Speaker 6: if you're really bad outside, so you can make an argument,
- 1:43:53Speaker 6: you move him inside. At least you lock down those spots.
- 1:43:55Speaker 6: But I would rather have a serviceable tackle right than
- 1:43:59Speaker 6: than a great Yuard.
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: Let's go to uh Tasmine in California. What's up, Tasmine?
- 1:44:09Speaker 13: What's up?
- 1:44:10Speaker 14: Fred hey Evan. First of all, I just wanted to
- 1:44:16Speaker 14: say that if McDaniel's leaves, that's a destrument to us
- 1:44:21Speaker 14: and him, because I feel like he found his most
- 1:44:26Speaker 14: success here as we all know. But second of all,
- 1:44:31Speaker 14: I just want to hype up pastination by saying we're
- 1:44:35Speaker 14: in playoffs. Texans is next team up. They we line
- 1:44:39Speaker 14: them up, we knock them down. That's right, and that's
- 1:44:42Speaker 14: what we do.
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: That's right, all right, Thanks Tasmine, appreciate that. That's my philosophy.
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: Just bring them on. We'll take on all comers, you know,
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: and if they're good and we beat them good, if
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: they're good, we lose, well, all right, But I'm not
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: I'm not scared.
- 1:44:59Speaker 5: No.
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: Neither is tasmin No.
- 1:45:02Speaker 6: I mean, I think that there's no teams, you know.
- 1:45:04Speaker 6: I think a couple of calls ago saying they think
- 1:45:09Speaker 6: that the Patriots are on power with everybody, I would
- 1:45:11Speaker 6: agree with that. I think in the AFC it's really flat.
- 1:45:15Speaker 6: I think, and I said before the playoffs started, I
- 1:45:17Speaker 6: could make an argument for six different teams. Pittsburgh was
- 1:45:20Speaker 6: the one that I didn't think belonged. And you know,
- 1:45:25Speaker 6: maybe I overrated the Chargers a little bit, but I
- 1:45:27Speaker 6: still think that they I think defensively, they came to
- 1:45:31Speaker 6: play and they had every opportunity to win that game
- 1:45:33Speaker 6: Sunday night. I think the Patriots will have every opportunity
- 1:45:37Speaker 6: to win Sunday against Houston and whoever they play, whether
- 1:45:40Speaker 6: it's in Denver or home against Buffalo, I think they'll
- 1:45:42Speaker 6: have the same situation. I don't think there's anybody out
- 1:45:47Speaker 6: there that you look at and say, there's so much
- 1:45:49Speaker 6: better than the Patriots. I don't see the Patriots have
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: to do X, Y and Z perfectly to win. I
- 1:45:54Speaker 6: don't think there's anybody like that in the AFC. The NFC,
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: we'll see. We'll see when they get there, if they
- 1:45:58Speaker 6: get there at the Super Bowl, but not in the AFC.
- 1:46:03Speaker 6: It doesn't exist.
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: Let's go to Easton, George. What's up, George?
- 1:46:11Speaker 13: You guys, can you hear me?
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: Hey?
- 1:46:15Speaker 14: Hey?
- 1:46:15Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 1:46:15Speaker 13: I just my thought going into this game, right, Like
- 1:46:17Speaker 13: the Pats offense is as good as the Texans defense
- 1:46:20Speaker 13: based on NFL rank like one to two or one
- 1:46:23Speaker 13: to three. Pats defense is I think a lot better
- 1:46:26Speaker 13: than the Texans offense. So I feel like Texans offense
- 1:46:31Speaker 13: would almost do better with Davis Mills to be honest,
- 1:46:34Speaker 13: but what do you guys think the most important matchup
- 1:46:37Speaker 13: there is? Like Pat's overs Texans D or Pats D
- 1:46:40Speaker 13: vers Sex and zero. I think, you know, if Pat's
- 1:46:42Speaker 13: offense can put up fourteen points, will probably win if
- 1:46:46Speaker 13: the Texans defense a special teams don't score. I just
- 1:46:49Speaker 13: want to hear your take.
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: On that one.
- 1:46:50Speaker 7: First.
- 1:46:50Speaker 6: Do you think if the Patriots score fourteen points they win?
- 1:46:54Speaker 13: You know what? I don't think, Houston the offense is
- 1:46:57Speaker 13: going to score?
- 1:46:58Speaker 6: Okay, Yeah, I mean that's good. I say you're grossly
- 1:47:01Speaker 6: overrating Davis Mills and grossly underrating c J S.
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think twenty is the number, George.
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: I think you need to get to at least twenty.
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: All right, thanks George.
- 1:47:15Speaker 6: Just I mean the games that Davis Mills played, I
- 1:47:17Speaker 6: mean they had one like absolute epic fourth quarter collapse
- 1:47:22Speaker 6: by Jacksonville. List said that I think they scored twenty
- 1:47:25Speaker 6: six points in the fourth quarter to beat jackson Guy.
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: I'm just going to say, I just want to warrant
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: Patriots fans that Houston did not win ten games in
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: a row down the stretch, but with just their defense,
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: you know.
- 1:47:38Speaker 6: But I just want to point out like this, like
- 1:47:41Speaker 6: Davis Mills went three and zero. He won the first
- 1:47:43Speaker 6: three games of the ten game winning streak. They scored
- 1:47:45Speaker 6: thirty six points against Jacksonville. Almost all of that was
- 1:47:48Speaker 6: in the fourth quarter. It was an epic collapse by
- 1:47:50Speaker 6: the Jags. By the way, that was the last game
- 1:47:51Speaker 6: the Jags lost before they got knocked out of the playoffs.
- 1:47:55Speaker 6: The other games that they won, they beat the Titans
- 1:47:57Speaker 6: sixteen to thirteen with David Mills playing quarterback. They beat
- 1:48:02Speaker 6: the Bills twenty three to nineteen, which again was all defense.
- 1:48:07Speaker 6: They sacked Josh Allen eight times in that game. Like this,
- 1:48:11Speaker 6: offense was not good when Davis Mills was playing. Now, again.
- 1:48:16Speaker 6: If CJ. Stroud fumbles five times Sunday Night, the Texans
- 1:48:19Speaker 6: a win ain't gonna win if he doesn't play well.
- 1:48:22Speaker 6: I don't think Davis Mills is capable of playing well.
- 1:48:25Speaker 6: I've seen CJ. Stroud play well.
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: Right now, people are watching that last game and they
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: they're getting this, you know, recency bias against CJ.
- 1:48:35Speaker 6: So you know Davis Mills's passer rate, and I know
- 1:48:37Speaker 6: passer rating isn't the be all end all. He was
- 1:48:39Speaker 6: eighty one point six. I know we went three and zero,
- 1:48:42Speaker 6: but he didn't play well when he did it. You
- 1:48:45Speaker 6: know CJ. Stroud, who's had a but that year had
- 1:48:48Speaker 6: a ninety three passer rating and his passer rating in
- 1:48:52Speaker 6: five career playoff games is ninety eight. So he's not
- 1:48:55Speaker 6: the stiff that you guys think you and I don't
- 1:48:58Speaker 6: say you personally, but that people think he is. He
- 1:49:00Speaker 6: was a stiff Monday night with his ball security. When
- 1:49:04Speaker 6: he threw the ball, he threw the ball for two
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: hundred and fifty yards.
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: Yeah, just be careful.
- 1:49:08Speaker 6: It was very you know what's funny, It was very
- 1:49:10Speaker 6: similar to Drake May's game when Drake May was actually
- 1:49:13Speaker 6: operating the offense without turning it over. They he looked fine,
- 1:49:19Speaker 6: and so did Stroud the other night. The problem was,
- 1:49:21Speaker 6: you can't turn the ball over like that.
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: The Patriots defense is going to have to have a
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: good game. They're going to have to play.
- 1:49:27Speaker 6: I mean, I think if you go into any game,
- 1:49:29Speaker 6: I don't care who you're playing, with the idea that
- 1:49:31Speaker 6: if we can score fourteen points, we win, I think
- 1:49:33Speaker 6: that's a disaster waiting to happen. You might hold him
- 1:49:37Speaker 6: done to fourteen points and win, but I don't think
- 1:49:39Speaker 6: that's any plan to go into a game with.
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: Anthony says, how worried should we be with Drake may running?
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: Consider Texans linebacker al shahers notice notorious for being a
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: dirty player.
- 1:49:50Speaker 6: I agree with that. I would definitely head on a
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: swivel for Drake because he's a physical, physical player, dirty
- 1:49:57Speaker 6: I think so. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm only kidding. Yeah.
- 1:50:03Speaker 6: I told Rodney this, We told him he's a dirty
- 1:50:05Speaker 6: play made our piece with this, Yeah, I think I
- 1:50:07Speaker 6: might have phrased it like you know, I always thought
- 1:50:09Speaker 6: you were a dirty player when you were in San Diego.
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: Uh, Anthony. Anthony writes in I've heard a lots of
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: the Drake didn't play his best. Talk the team especially
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: Drake has been really good at fixing mistakes really quick
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: this season. Agree, How confident are you that the mistakes
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: from last week can be cleaned up before a matchup
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: on Sunday?
- 1:50:29Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that's a great point. I think Drake
- 1:50:30Speaker 6: has shown all year long the ability to put bad plays,
- 1:50:34Speaker 6: bad series, bad quarters, bad halves behind him quickly, and
- 1:50:38Speaker 6: I think he did it to an extent on on Sunday.
- 1:50:41Speaker 6: I don't think he was very good at all in
- 1:50:42Speaker 6: the first half. I don't think he was as good
- 1:50:45Speaker 6: as the numbers indicating the second half, but he was
- 1:50:47Speaker 6: much better in the second half than he was the
- 1:50:49Speaker 6: first half. It's ball security, and I'd be surprised if
- 1:50:54Speaker 6: ball security is a huge issue this week for him.
- 1:50:57Speaker 6: You know he had he had a pick and two
- 1:50:59Speaker 6: fumbles and game. I'd be surprised if he had three
- 1:51:02Speaker 6: turnover worthy plays again like that.
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: Battery. I gotta do something here, let's see. Travis writes
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: in West Virginia. I'm a couple days late. I'd like
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: to wish Naton, Connecticut a happy birthday. I hope he
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: was able to celebrate with his favorite meal which I
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: assume is saltine crackers and a big glass of water.
- 1:51:24Speaker 6: I thought it was going with a glass of milk.
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: Yeah, let's see Christian rights. In yesterday you talked about
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: Fred's pet peeve being quarterback sneaks on second and short.
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: My pet peeve is defensive back catching interceptions on fourth
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: down on downfield throws.
- 1:51:40Speaker 6: That's a good one. Yeah, that's a good one.
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: Happened again this weekend, yep. It did in the Packers
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: Bears game and cost him about thirty yards of field
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: position while Carrington Valentine ran around celebrating. How can you
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: have so little situational awareness.
- 1:51:54Speaker 6: And it does happen all the time. Yeah, that's a
- 1:51:56Speaker 6: good observation, yep. And I think it's hard because I
- 1:52:01Speaker 6: think players look at it and say, I have a
- 1:52:03Speaker 6: chance to make sure this ball doesn't get caught by
- 1:52:05Speaker 6: catching it, and that's the natural thing to try to do,
- 1:52:08Speaker 6: whereas if I just try to bat it down, I
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: don't normally do that, right.
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: It's it's instinctual to catch it.
- 1:52:15Speaker 6: You know, And that's that's sort of not a natural
- 1:52:17Speaker 6: thing to do. And all of a sudden you try
- 1:52:18Speaker 6: to bat it down and you maybe you mistime it
- 1:52:20Speaker 6: and it goes off your hand, off your shoulder, and
- 1:52:23Speaker 6: you know who knows, but you're right.
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: Yeah. The other one is like at the line of scrimmage,
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: pops up and like the quarterback smartly bats it down.
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: Your instinct is to catch it. So it's it is
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: situational awareness and quarterback.
- 1:52:37Speaker 6: Yeah. I think the quarterback is in that situation a
- 1:52:39Speaker 6: lot more often and they do bat them down a lot.
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: Let's see Zach and Ohio starting to be talked about
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: how Drake May prefers to step up into the pocket
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: whenever the edges start to collapse, or if Will Campbell
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: is pushed back into him. With the Texans allowing one
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: of the higher yards per carry for scrambling quarterbacks, would
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: they be smart to put a spy on Drake.
- 1:53:03Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:53:03Speaker 6: I wouldn't be surprised. Evan talked about that yesterday a
- 1:53:05Speaker 6: little bit. The Texans have been struggled with scrambles and
- 1:53:11Speaker 6: obviously that's a huge strength of Drake May's game.
- 1:53:14Speaker 7: Yep.
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: Schematically, what would we do to counter a QB spy
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: with our offense? I think Drake's legs are the difference
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: maker in this game. Would love to see more designed
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: QB runs or boots.
- 1:53:25Speaker 6: Well, so those are two different things. Like the scrambles
- 1:53:28Speaker 6: are not right. You know, if you designed quarterback runs,
- 1:53:32Speaker 6: I don't. I mean they did a good job on
- 1:53:34Speaker 6: Josh Allen yep in that in that Thursday night game. Now,
- 1:53:39Speaker 6: I personally think that I had more to do with
- 1:53:40Speaker 6: the fact that it was a Thursday night game and
- 1:53:42Speaker 6: that's tough for all all involved. But I think they
- 1:53:49Speaker 6: need to throw the ball effectively off platform. I think
- 1:53:52Speaker 6: that's how the Patriots are going to make plays in
- 1:53:54Speaker 6: this game.
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: Tim says in Phoenix, why was Torrance? Oh, he's the Bills.
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: Why was Torrence called for a ten yard penalty for
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: picking up Josh Allen? The rules allow pushing, but explicitly
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: call out picking up the ball carrier. There is no
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: confusion or debate. If he picked him up, he just
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: won angry runs on Good Morning Football for and I
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: quote picking up the franchise just curious asking for a friend.
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: I don't think it would have changed the outcome or
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: anything like that. The tush push is one thing, but
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: where is the line?
- 1:54:28Speaker 6: Well, that's why I think that that's going to go away. Yeah,
- 1:54:31Speaker 6: it's not the tush push. I think it's more of
- 1:54:33Speaker 6: these piles. They get pushed on runs, which I don't
- 1:54:36Speaker 6: think that's not football, like two offensive linemen getting behind
- 1:54:41Speaker 6: the running back and pushing the defensive backs that are
- 1:54:43Speaker 6: trying to stop them.
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: From the locker.
- 1:54:46Speaker 10: Room, what was the mood where the players friendly to that?
- 1:54:49Speaker 23: None of them looked like what was it?
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: Like?
- 1:54:58Speaker 12: What was it like?
- 1:55:01Speaker 6: It's just it was the real quick like why I
- 1:55:03Speaker 6: think that the tush push isn't really the problem. It's
- 1:55:06Speaker 6: the other pushes.
- 1:55:07Speaker 9: That Uh oh yeah, yeah, you talked about that during
- 1:55:09Speaker 9: the game, a little bit of it's stupid.
- 1:55:11Speaker 3: Well, Mike is back from the locker.
- 1:55:13Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:55:13Speaker 3: It was very busy, very busy as you would expect
- 1:55:16Speaker 3: to play a visual. Yeah, it does.
- 1:55:18Speaker 9: I walked down the hallway behind Kiris Tonga, so appears
- 1:55:22Speaker 9: he's going out to practice. I also saw uh, Christian
- 1:55:25Speaker 9: Gonzalez getting ready. We didn't see him putting on red
- 1:55:27Speaker 9: jers or anything. He was off limits from interviews, but
- 1:55:29Speaker 9: looked like he was getting stuff together.
- 1:55:31Speaker 3: So good, real good sign. Heard from Steph.
- 1:55:34Speaker 9: Diggs, who also had a pile of Girl Scout cookies
- 1:55:36Speaker 9: in front of his locker.
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: He's selling them.
- 1:55:38Speaker 9: He was trying to support the girl Scouts and uh
- 1:55:40Speaker 9: he said the smolls are his favorite. Of course, those
- 1:55:44Speaker 9: ones if he named them recently, though they're different names now.
- 1:55:46Speaker 9: I used to be like tag alongs and now they're
- 1:55:48Speaker 9: peanut butter patties. Anyway, but a lot of compliments, of
- 1:55:52Speaker 9: course for the Houston defense, and you know Diggs talking
- 1:55:55Speaker 9: about being ready getting open quick, that they're not going
- 1:55:58Speaker 9: to have a lot of time. But the quarter of
- 1:55:59Speaker 9: the day, as we did talk to Will Campbell and
- 1:56:02Speaker 9: then we talked to Austin Hooper and they were asking
- 1:56:04Speaker 9: Austin Hooper a little bit about just Will and his
- 1:56:06Speaker 9: performance in his first game and stuff, and he's like, look,
- 1:56:08Speaker 9: I'm not really watching Will play every play, but I'll
- 1:56:11Speaker 9: just tell you this, whenever I'm in The'll huddle with him,
- 1:56:13Speaker 9: it looks like he's ready to choose violence every single time.
- 1:56:16Speaker 9: So it was a good a good quote. Will Campbell
- 1:56:19Speaker 9: had a lot of a lot of cool stuff to
- 1:56:21Speaker 9: say too. He was just talking about going against Will Anderson.
- 1:56:24Speaker 3: He's like, I went against Will Anderson.
- 1:56:25Speaker 9: I was eighteen years old, and he was listing off
- 1:56:27Speaker 9: some of the guys that he played against.
- 1:56:29Speaker 3: But of course, a lot of respect for the edge rushers,
- 1:56:32Speaker 3: and and Will was honest.
- 1:56:33Speaker 9: He's like, look, I didn't I didn't put your shot
- 1:56:34Speaker 9: out the other night, you know, and that's how it's
- 1:56:36Speaker 9: going to go. But these are the best would different,
- 1:56:39Speaker 9: He's like, these are these are the best teams with
- 1:56:41Speaker 9: the best players, and you know, we just it's not
- 1:56:43Speaker 9: always going to be perfect, but we got to go
- 1:56:45Speaker 9: back out there and be ready to play. So, uh,
- 1:56:47Speaker 9: you know, again, just feel quiet confidence. Nobody seems too
- 1:56:50Speaker 9: tight and uh, you know, Digs leading the charge there.
- 1:56:52Speaker 3: But it's huge.
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: First press conference, you said it was a crowded locker room. Yeah,
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: was music playing, No, no music, no music, no music business.
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: A lot of people you don't recognize there.
- 1:57:03Speaker 9: Was I noticed one person recognized. I noticed there, Mike.
