Before you hit the beach this Fourth of July, know this: driving on sand is a recipe for disaster if you’re not prepared. RVs and front-wheel-drive cars? Stay off the sand. Four-wheel-drive? Let your tires deflate and turn off traction control. Check your vehicle’s specs, carry a shovel and wood, and drive slowly on firm sand—never on wet, shiny patches.
