- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: is the Steve Downs, the voice of Master Chief, Spartan 1-1-7, with an incoming message for Ryan Green and all, we'll listen to the podcast It Just Works, let's finish the fight.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Listen up, Chief, out.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: What's going on, everybody?
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to the It Just Where's Podcast.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm your host Ryan, and it is amazing to be back.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: Today I want to talk about a game that has completely taken over my gaming life these past few weeks.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: And it's been crazy.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: I've livestreamed it if you've seen that.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: So if you join the livestreams, thank you.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: I've posted about it.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: And then of course, it's going to be a ruined scape dragon while I have played the game for about 155 hours.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, it is taking over my life.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: So I've put about 80 hours into my Xbox Series X and about 75 hours on my Switch 2.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: The reason why I want to talk about this game today is Rune's Cape is near and dear to my heart.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's such an important part of my video gaming life.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: The history of it and you know playing old school Rune's Cape back in a day would jare it my friend Alex.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: And so many others online that I've played with over the years.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: I played that game on dialogue.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: probably back in like 2002 all the way up until about 2009 pretty consistently you know as much as I could I didn't have my own computer ever until about 2009 2008 and then eventually it came back out again on the iPhone and I made a new account and played all the way up to monkey madness which I was really proud of because
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: Playing up to that point the way I did it was really fun and just mean to realize how easy your game is if you just sit down and play it.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: I was a kid.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: I was really stupid.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I was really bad at the game.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: But the charm of the game was always the aesthetics, the dialogue with the characters obviously it's text, but you know just reading their dialogue in the way they're you know written the world itself, the graphics, the art style, the weapons, the armors,
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: the areas you go to and explore so much about old school ruinscape meant the world to me.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: And it also kind of painted the canvas for the fantasy games I would like moving forward with my life.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: Growing up, the major fantasy games I played were the Legend of Zelda, Champions of Nora, which is like Diablo.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: And that was pretty much it.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: I played a little bit of more wind in 2003 or 4, or whenever that came out, like maybe an hour didn't get into it.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then 2005, I'll just roll it again, came out 2005 or 6, and that was basically my ruined skate on the console.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: But the point is, I've always wanted a console RuinScape game.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: I've always wanted RuinScape to be an open-world game where you can control and do your own motions, because as much as I love the MMO, the clicking and just letting the gameplay wasn't really cutting it for me anymore, even though I still love the game till this day.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: RuinScape Dragon Wilds got announced, and it was, from what I could tell, the game that I wanted to play.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: And recently, I finally accomplished something that I've been working toward for quite some times since I played the game, I defeated Koldera, the Dragon Queen.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: And let me tell you, it was an awesome feeling, finally reaching that point.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: This game, since I looted it up, on both my Switch 2 and my Xbox, has been truly a dream come true.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's an open world crafting survival RPG, with great animations, mechanics, art style, gorgeous.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's a classic runescape feel between the music, the gameplay, and all of the aesthetics.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: Again, those creatures, your characters, your weapons, your armor, your capes.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: The quest lines are reminiscent, even the titles of Old School Runescape.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: It is absolutely amazing.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: But here's the interesting thing.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: After putting all that time into Dragon Wildes, after spending countless hours of building two bases, one on the switch to building a castle that's not completely done on my series X.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: From upgrading my equipment to getting Dragon, exploring all the way to Umbrol Sands, and obviously defeating Kohlra in that section of the map.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: And even taking down the queen as I just mentioned, I started to feel something I didn't expect.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: I started to get bored.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I started to get a little bored.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: I beat the queen.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I did get my melee combat to 99.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: But I was like, where do I go from here?
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, that surprised me a lot, and I'll tell you why.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's because of everything I just said.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: All the core systems of the game are really fun.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: They're engaging in that moment-to-moment gameplay reminded me of Halo, where it's your constant 30 seconds of fun.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: When you start this game out, walking out of the chapel, after you talk to the wise old man, you're open into this beautiful field of lushest trees and forests.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: You see these little creatures on the ground, you see your classic wood and stone, allowing you to pick them up and start crafting away to all your hearts content, getting your first wood axe and chopping down those trees.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: That moment starts to kind of fade away when you're later in the game, because you already did it, like you went through each area, so basically each area has a tear.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: You start off a tear one, and you end the game a tear nine with the dragon equipment and some gear.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: Well that's it though like once you get that you've defeated the hardest enemies in the game you've unlocked the highest level tier in the game of armor and equipment and that's it so Needless to say there is one thing that's more important so I didn't know 100% the game yet I need to get all of my nine skills.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: I need to complete all the quests and unlock all the recipes because I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: I did it on fallout 76
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think the point is the first 80 hours of gameplay for both of these characters, by the way, this isn't cross progression, it's just crossplay.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's just the leveling up and seeing an uncharted world and because this is a it's called Ashenfall.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: and this is a region of Glonora, so it still takes place in the same universe as the other games, but it's in a brand new unexplored region, and I just feel like once you unlock everything, it's like, alright, well that was fun, and don't get me wrong, like I said, there's so much left to do.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: Maxing out skills is really cool when it's such a it's such a tradition in ruinscape Building my castle has been truly fun.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking at it right now as I'm recording this and I think it's a gorgeous castle I love everything about it and I'm not even done yet.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't built the walls the grounds where I wanted to do a garden for farming Plants some trees like magic trees because I think they'd look really cool here and There's there's more there's more because I want to decorate as much as I possibly can
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: The point is, I mean, that's all kind of like extra stuff.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like I feel like the Coldra boss battle was kind of whatever.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: It was like fun, but it wasn't crazy.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: And the buildup to that is I think way better.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: But today, I want to talk about what makes Dragon Ball so special as I've already mentioned.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: Why have I invested so much time into it?
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: The pretty significant performance issues I've experienced on the Nintendo Switch, which I think are a huge deal.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: And why I think the game needs something more to keep players invested after defeating Kaldra?
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot to love here, and I mean a lot.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: There's also a lot I hope that improves over time.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: So first, I'd like to remind you of the history of Runescape with me.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: I've played this since I love internet.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: Runescape is one of those games where you can spend hours doing something incredibly simple, like standing in the GE, trading and selling the people,
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I somehow never got tired of it.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: I would sit there listening to music on my iTunes, chatting in a way with people, strangers, drop trades, freaking trading, like legitimately trading, using the exchange, or just playing fashion scape and seeing people, you know, and all their armors, and showing off my armor.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: Or I could sit there chopping trees, mining, or fishing and leveling up different skills, and it was genuinely entertaining.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: And it is in Dragon Wilds as well, but there's something about it that kind of makes me feel like that's the extent of it.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I think a lot of it has to do the experience you gain per per growth.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: So like wood cuttings pretty badass, but fishing I feel like is a grind that's a little unnecessary to some extent.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: However, grind the idea of a grind is very natural to ruin escape.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like it could have been done a little differently.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: And it does make the progression feel rewarding, but I feel like it's not as rewarding as old school ruinscape, at least from what I remember.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: Because even when you're doing something repetitive, you feel like you're working towards something.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I got to be honest with you.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: At my fishing level now, which is like in the 60s, I feel like there's no reason to get it to 99 besides the cape, which the cape also doesn't do anything.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: So, I think that's just a big issue.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: Granted, the game was an early access.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: They made incredible improvements leading up to the 1.0 launch of in September 15th.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: Don't give me wrong.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot again, amazing work here.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: The game is by the way.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's $29.99.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's a $30 game that I've put 155 hours into.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: Trust me, I got my money's worth tenfold.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: and I bought both dual x addition, so I paid like what $80 for both games, let me $90 or something.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I am still very happy with my purchase, can't wait for hopefully a performance update on this switch to which we'll dive into a little bit here soon.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: The game is still good.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: and the world I'm experiencing is great.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like it's missing something and the problem is and I think it's something that they've already addressed with the announcement of RuinScape 4 which is looks like Dragon Wild demo.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: Is that it, this game has all of those elements, elements of like an online world, an online game and I feel like it not having
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: events, which I think they're working on.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: I could be wrong.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't part of the roadmap, but it does say like events in quest monthly.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: Is that what it needs?
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: It needs like monthly quests, challenges, maybe even like seasonal events.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that's kind of like honestly for some people that might be terrible, but for the ruined skate fan, that's a pretty common thing.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: There's a Halloween event, there's I think there's a Thanksgiving event, but there's a Christmas event as well and other events throughout the year in old school ruin escape where you can unlock special gear that's tied to that event by doing specific task even quest lines and I think that's something desperately missing from this game that gives it that
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: Seasonality the gives it that uniqueness of like, hey, I want to return and do this for a couple of weeks I'm gonna play this game for two weeks because this event is really cool and I want to earn the gear or whatever it may be I think it's missing that However, I still love it.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: I still love this game and let me tell you about why Dragon Wild is so addicting One thing I have to give Dragon Wild's credit for is how satisfying the gameplay loop is
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: There's something about gathering resources, improving your equipment, and slowly building up your character that simply just works.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the building system is where I've personally spent a ridiculous amount of time as opposed to other games.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: The building system in this game, as I was working on a castle, is incredible.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm telling you guys, I've probably spent more time trying to make everything look symmetrical than I have fighting enemies.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: In two a degree, that's totally true.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: I probably spent more time building my castle than I did in Enroll Sands as a whole.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: Still love Enroll Sands.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm building a living quarter, storage areas, crafting stations, a smithing area, and even planning out the exterior wall, as I mentioned before, where I want to have gardens to do farming and plant trees.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: I love that stuff.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: Don't give me a wrong.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: it's amazing.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: And there's something incredibly satisfying about starting with practically nothing and eventually crafting the massive structure that you can look at and say, yeah, I built that.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: And that's, I think, what makes Ruinscape Dragon Wild's worth the price of a mission.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: Starting off with nothing, grabbing your first stone and your first ash plank or ash, you know, the ash logs, and making crafting table, you know, your tools, later crafting weapons and gear,
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: and then eventually leveling up all of that and repeating that process while also cooking, fishing, ruin crafting, gardening, farming, it's called farming, but and then eventually building your own outposts, base, home, camp, castle, even cities like some people have done.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's incredible what you can do with the building system on this game.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: but here we are.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: I could log on with every intention of progressing through the game and three hours later I'm still working on my castle.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's how addictive it can be.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's where Dragon Wild succeeds.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: It gives you the freedom to create your own objective and it rewards you with that curiosity, whether it's gear, weapons, questing, or just making your own castle.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I lost track of my paper.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: Anyways, some of my biggest gripes are with the Nintendo to Nintendo switch to experience.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm playing on two consoles that provide two very different experiences.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I would like to talk about that for a moment.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_01]: I've played about 80 hours on the Xbox Series X and 75 hours on the Nintendo switch to reiterate that.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: I know I said it earlier, but I want to make sure we understand the difference there.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: And the difference in my overall experience has been very, very noticeable.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: The Xbox Series X is where I've generally preferred playing after about 40 hours to 50 hours on my Nintendo Switch 2.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: And I was kind of playing my Series X as well at the same time, but eventually the Series X completely took over.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, on Nintendo Switch 2, the game is very, very blurry, doesn't run at even consistent 30 frames, it's good, but it's not consistent, it's very choppy, blurry, and at first I was okay with it because it's like I said the game is so addicting when you pick it up, it's so fun that I honestly didn't care about graphics.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: But what really holds that back is again those graphics.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: It should be at 40 FPS at the least.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: It should look a lot clearer, a sharper image, look better.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: But also the game starts breaking after you play it for a while.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: If you have a long play session on the Nintendo Switch 2, the audio literally starts cracking and crumbling.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: The game starts getting even blurrier and like it almost feels like the game is breaking down.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: The longer you play it on the Nintendo Switch 2.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't seen a lot of people talk about this, and it's really frustrating, because the game is so much fun on the Nintendo Switch 2, to be able to lay down and work on your own base or camp, maybe do a couple quests to end the night.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: It is fantastic, and to see, again, a ruined escape game, not only in handheld, but on our consoles, is truly a dream come true.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: I cannot stress that enough, and I'll probably say it again.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: However, it's just disappointing because RuneScape Dragon Wild is the exact kind of game I want to play on that handheld system, but I feel like the optimization is severely lacking.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, being able to sit down, gather resources, work on a camp, maybe make a little progression on a skill while it's either on my TV and I pull it out and now I'm playing handheld and then maybe watching TV is a very, very satisfying experience.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: I would still recommend this game if you don't care about performance on Nintendo Switch 2.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: but user be warned.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: Please, if performance is a big deal for you, which it should be, because I like my games to run really well, which it does on the PS5 Series X and PC, runs at an incredible 60fps and looks gorgeous.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: I would say go that route.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: But if you want it in handheld and you're not a stickler about performance and honestly some of the performance is kind of hilarious because it makes it look like old school ruinscape because the way it looks then I would say still go for it.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: At the price point this is a game worth your time.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, but that's also an important distinction, is you can still love the game, but acknowledge that one version needs serious improvement.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: I love both versions of the game, but unfortunately one needs a lot of love.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: However, I know that a lot of issues right now have been with the character saves.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: And even worlds being lost that people had made, which is very unfortunate, and I'm so grateful that I haven't experienced this.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: So if you didn't know, some users and players, I don't know how many users, some players have literally lost their characters or their worlds that they've built.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: and they are working tirelessly to repair that and I think there's an update coming out next week that should hopefully fix this and update 1.0.1 and it's a very unfortunate situation that I think is also held back other performance and stability updates such as the optimization for this switch to.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully they're able to fix the saves which is way more important and then move on to the optimization that I keep mentioning.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: I personally want to keep playing Dragon Wilds on both systems.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: The performance became so rough and hard to deal with that this whole week before a certain game came out, Dragons Dogma 2, Darker Risen.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: I actually didn't even play my Switch.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: Every time I loaded up my Switch because I wanted to play Dragon Wilds, I just couldn't do it.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: The performance really just, I was like, I'm good.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even want to play this.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: And that's really unfortunate.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of love has been, you know, put into this game.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of soul, a lot of heart.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's all there.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I really look forward to whatever update comes down soon.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: But let's talk about cold red.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of mentioned her earlier about how it's kind of lagging.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll be getting into some spoilers here.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: So please understand that this is the final game boss that I'm talking about.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: And if this is something you're not interested in hearing about, please consider coming back after you've completed the boss fight yourself.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: After spending much time preparing an upgrading my equipment, gathering materials and progressing through Dragon Wilds, I finally defeated the Dragon Queen.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: and that was a really satisfying moment.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: It was like knowing that like this is the final boss.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: This is the one, like the world, like ending kind of boss, which she literally is.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: It was very satisfying to complete it.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: But looking back at it, I felt like there was kind of a little bit left to be desired.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: All it was is that you collect these orbs, charge them up while dragons are attacking you, plus Cole just doing like death, killing, kind of blows, and you have to shoot Crossbow guns that are elemental into her, and Rinse and repeat that over and over again until you defeat her.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: And so I saw that, I actually saw it before I walked in, and I was like, oh, okay, that's kind of cool.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: In theory, it is cool.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: I did it solo, and I think that's where the fight, because it meant to be like an in-game kind of raid like final boss kind of fight.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: And you can do it entirely by yourself, which I think is amazing first of all, but you really, really meant to play this with other people.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's where the boss fight kind of lacked for me, as I did it by myself.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: So, I don't know, that's kind of where I'm at with that.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: just thought I would throw that out there, but yeah, the problem with the end game is that I think the biggest issue I'm having right now is that the game has an incredible addictive progression system but once you've accomplished major objectives the game kind of starts to feel empty a little bit and then understand that not every game needs the last forever again that is a massive argument that's kind of happening right now with this game amongst certain fans whether it's
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's a problem, though, as I mentioned earlier, there was seasonality that I would talk to about.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: I do think that not everything needs the last forever.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you can replay it forever, and that's perfectly fine.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: But not every game needs to be like a thousand hours.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: In terms of like, oh, it just came out.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: I've been doing nothing but this for a thousand hours.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's not how it has to work.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's where the seasonality kind of balances out.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: I've completed a lot of what I love about this game, and I still have so many goals that I'm still going to work towards, but it's something like a seasonal event for Christmas again, or Halloween would get me on this game for sure, and want me to acquire all the gear, complete whatever quest, whatever's tied to this event, I would want to do it.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's a big opportunity.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: However, again, 155 hours is already a tremendous amount of entertainment when you think about the price of a mission.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: I can't sit here and pretend like I haven't got my money's worth in terms of enjoyment.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: One of the best things about ruined escape is also the fashion part of it that we call fashion escape.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: Getting that dragon armor, getting the adamant armor, which has always been my favorite armor that's like low tier now.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's so badass and it's so cool how technically high tier it is in this game and it looks gorgeous.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: So don't get me wrong, I'm very happy to earn a lot of what I got, especially fighting the dragons, all the color dragons, and getting the colored dragon hides, it's so badass, and it's such a rich part of RuneScape's history, so it's very good.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: But the thing is, Dragon Wilds feels like a game that could support hundreds of additional hours if it had meaningful long-term objectives, which I definitely feel like it's missing besides skilling, but that kind of goes without saying.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: And that's where I think it can learn from traditional RuneScape.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: Roomscape has always been about having another goal.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: There's always another skilled level, another piece of equipment to chase, another boss to fight, another challenge to overcome.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Dragon Wild needs more of that.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's more additional in-game bosses, maybe it's new regions with more difficult enemies, maybe it's rare crafting materials, special building rewards, or longer progression systems.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever direction they choose with their updates and whatever execution we see with a road map I think it's important that they keep giving players a reason to continue I'm really harping on that seasonality Because right now I can keep expanding my castle almost at console and can continue collecting resources I can explore areas that were already visited but without a meaningful objective those activities Don't have quite the same impact anymore, and they really don't
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the unfortunate because the actual gameplay is some of the best gameplay I've ever experienced.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: Again, the gameplay is so satisfying.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of the animations look really cool, and there is systems that could be updated.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: So here's what I want from the future.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: And this is what I'd like to personally see.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, we have the luminous update coming out in December, that adds the prayer skill, and it starts the new season next year with the road map.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I think there's a lot to love about that.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_01]: Especially with hunter skill coming out and slayer skill coming out because I think those two skills are meant for this game But I also would like to see ceiling Which is funny because it just came to old school ruinscape recently, but I think with like this game it would be a great opportunity to have it And also like to see the world continue to expand which we're going to see it in some fraction especially with the elves in that quest line we get next year
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: But again, just more locations to discover, more enemies, and more interesting rewards and additional systems that give players long-term goals.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously, I want to see a significant performance improvement on Nintendo Switch 2, which I think should be a absolute priority after we figure out the save missing saves and missing worlds for players, because of course that's so important.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: The foundation is incredibly strong for 1.0, the crafting is enjoyable, the exploration couldn't be more satisfying, and the building is absolutely addictive and super easy to learn.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: And the ruinscape identity couldn't be here more.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: Even if it's something as simple, for me personally, seeing the damage counters,
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: Seeing I have the same exact damage counters as the old school runescape with something I didn't expect at all I actually didn't watch a lot of gameplay leading to this game coming out and I think it's amazing to see you just the damage counters Some of the old tunes that are kind of refined and remastered for this game I did hear that a lot of more like runescape three and then I guess remastered But there's some of them that play and it's just like damn that's the game When you hit some of the zombies they make like the ooh sound effect
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought that was really cool.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: So again, this game is amazing.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I can't wait to see all the new content that unfortunately just can't happen overnight.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: It takes time, takes a lot of developmental work, and I really hope that the developers understand just how much potential they have with this game.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the roadmap really shows that, but also with the announcement again, of Runescape 4, which is basically Dragon Wilds and MMO.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: Because I genuinely think Dragon Wilds could become one of the survival games that people keep coming back to for years.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: So, yes, without hesitation, I completely recommend Runescape Dragon Wilds.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: Even with the issues I've mentioned, I've had an incredible time.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: 155 hours doesn't happen by accident.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: This game is addicting.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's fun.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: And if you played old school Runescape or even Runescape 3 or 2, just any kind of Runescape experience, you'll come to love it here too.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: There's pretty much no way you don't.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not disappointed because I love it enough to want more.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: There's a big difference.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're somebody who grew up playing RuneScape, I think there's a lot here that you'll appreciate as I just mentioned.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: Even if you've never played RuneScape before, I think Dragon Wilds has enough.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: Going for it to be worth checking out.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_01]: If you enjoy survival crafting games, just understand that at least my experience, the journey toward a major objective has been more satisfying than what comes afterwards.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're deciding which platform to play on, again, I personally prefer the Xbox Series X, so that'd be your PlayStation 5 or higher in PC.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe even mid PC, we'll probably look at on it.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: But I hope that changes in the future, because I would love to see this look a lot better on this switch too.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: So again, I'll want to end it here.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think the best way to summarize my feelings about Dragon Wilds is this.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: The magic isn't gone.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like I've reached a point where I'm going going waiting for the next adventure.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: I spent 155 hours exploring the world building my castle leveling up and eventually saving the
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: I've had an incredible experience, but now I want to see what's next.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: I want another reason to get excited about logging on, and another challenge that makes me want to spend hours preparing, which is really fun.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: Another moment where I can look back at everything I've accomplished, and feel the same satisfaction after defeating the Dragon Queen.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: That would be lovely to have just such another epic fight.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: Because that's what your runescape has always meant to me, progression, adventure, and that feeling There's always something else waiting around the corner because old-school runescape nailed that to a tea I mean literally never felt like there was anything you couldn't do and I hope Dragon Wilds continues to deliver that Again, the roadmap looks like it will But I hope it happens for years to come
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: especially leading up to Rinscape 4.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: But those are my thoughts.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm curious to hear from anybody who's been playing Dragon Wilds.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: Have you defeated a coldrea yet?
- 27:32[SPEAKER_01]: Are you still playing the game?
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: Or have performance issues and saves?
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like of saves being available?
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: Them literally being lost, uh, prohibiting you for finishing the game.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: But I'd love to hear your experience.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to wrap it up for things today I'll be doing an episode on GearsWareE Day and Somehow a stunning game on the handheld the Dragon Dragons dogma to Darker is in on the Nintendo Switch 2.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, ruined skip Dragon was the easiest 9 out of 10 I've ever played I absolutely love it.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_01]: I adore it and I'm gonna continue to keep playing it.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: I've already made a new character to just experience that quick level up again
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: Please play the game if you haven't yet, but thank you guys so much for listening to the just first podcast, and until next time, keep gaming, take care of yourselves, and I'll catch you on the next episode.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: Peace!
