- 0:19and Scott Moskowitz. Hey, welcome back to No
- 0:27ID. Scott? Hello, Internet. I'm Paul. We're back.
- 0:33We are back. We promised weekly. So here we are
- 0:36by the hair of our chinny chin chin up on 20
- 0:40foot ladders 20 minutes ago so I hear yeah well
- 0:43that's my fault today the last couple days turned
- 0:46into I was having flashbacks to 2020 when I couldn't
- 0:50go a week without something falling off of my
- 0:52house and uh this the start of this week has
- 0:54been like that as well at a fridge a fridge and
- 0:58a freezer decide to sort of refreeze and thaw
- 1:00out and refreeze and thaw out overnight and then
- 1:03uh warp the floor beneath it so that was cool
- 1:05had to deal with that. And then as soon as I
- 1:07got the fridge back into place and all hooked
- 1:09up to the water and the electric and everything
- 1:11again, and it was like, ah, thank God that's
- 1:12done with and the floors only marginally damaged.
- 1:15Then one of my kids comes in and goes, dad, something
- 1:17fell off the side of the house. Like, no. So
- 1:22we had to get up on a ladder and reattach it
- 1:24with high winds. Last night, I'm assuming that's
- 1:27what knocked it off. It's possible, although
- 1:29we didn't get those high winds in the valley
- 1:31here. So it could be just the passing of time
- 1:33and on there for a few years and. I had to reattach
- 1:35it. So what was it? You keep saying it. Oh, event
- 1:38cover. So we have our the dude who built my house
- 1:41was a hack and it was a self build. So not a
- 1:45contractor. And the guy cut a lot of corners.
- 1:46And one of the weird things he did. So I'm not
- 1:48a construction guy, but, you know, a lot of construction
- 1:50is just common sense. And normally when you build
- 1:52a house, you do one of two things, not both one
- 1:55of two things. And that's either have vaulted
- 1:57ceilings or you have like attics. This guy did
- 2:00both. So the sides of my house have attics. above
- 2:05the rooms on the sides of the house, but the
- 2:07middle of the house is 30 feet tall and it's
- 2:09just vaulted ceilings. And the vaulted ceilings
- 2:12connect via airspace to the attics. And if stuff
- 2:14is not ventilated just exactly the way it needs
- 2:18to be, then mold finds itself all over the place,
- 2:21which is a problem we had when we first bought
- 2:23the house and we didn't realize what was going
- 2:24on. So we had to tear the whole roof off. That
- 2:26was a lot of fun. The entire roof. Sheeting and
- 2:29all don't ever want to do that again So we set
- 2:31it up where the ventilation works the way it
- 2:34should but it's very touchy so in this case the
- 2:37vent cover fell off and it's a big vent and Air
- 2:40will get through it and not go where I needed
- 2:42to go to avoid mold through the rest of the roof
- 2:45So I had to reattach it and block that airway
- 2:48You know, you should just consider, remember
- 2:49we were talking a couple shows ago about how
- 2:51you just had to sort of practice gratitude when
- 2:53the world and your house was falling apart beneath
- 2:55your feet. In this case, you know, maybe you
- 2:57should just be grateful that you didn't have
- 2:58to knock down all four walls, too. It was just
- 3:01the roof. I am grateful that I didn't have to
- 3:04knock down all four walls. I'm grateful that
- 3:06this time all I had to do was just reattach something
- 3:08and I didn't die. Yay. You know, the car is in
- 3:12excellent condition, other than the wheels and
- 3:15the axle and the engine and the frame. Other
- 3:17than that, it's a great car. The heater works.
- 3:21Yeah. In Idaho, we call them beaters with heaters.
- 3:24So as long as you've got the heater, you know.
- 3:26You know, I'm always amazed with regard to ventilation,
- 3:29how many, you know, let's say bath fans are vented
- 3:34into the attic and not out. Or even better, my
- 3:39favorite is the overrange microwave that vents
- 3:42to nowhere. It actually vents back at your forehead.
- 3:45You know, you open the cabinets above the microwave
- 3:48and there's no ducting. And you turn the fan
- 3:52on, it makes a noise, it sounds like it's ventilating,
- 3:56but it's actually just blowing the air out the
- 3:59top of the microwave back into your face. It's
- 4:01pretty amazing how often things like that exist
- 4:04in new housing. Yeah. Ours actually, speaking
- 4:08of ours, our microwave had that same setup. You
- 4:11turn on the fan and it actually just vented up
- 4:14to the ceiling. Right. So we'd look up at our
- 4:17ceiling and there was actually like grease stains
- 4:18on our ceiling. So I finally was able to call
- 4:22in a couple of favors and we were able to pipe
- 4:24a vent in from the microwave out through the
- 4:26side of the house. Tried to clean up the ceiling
- 4:29as best we can and then paint over it and like,
- 4:31well. It's as good as it's going to get. So my
- 4:34house is definitely the Clark Fork Idaho special.
- 4:37If ever there was one that existed. Good times.
- 4:40What's amazing is what that set up with those
- 4:42over range microwaves is not the exception. It's
- 4:45the vast overwhelming majority norm. 49 out of
- 4:4950 of them are not ventilated to the outside.
- 4:52That's absolutely wild. I didn't know that. How
- 4:54do you know that? Because I've become obsessed
- 4:57with checking every time I see one of those setups,
- 4:59which is quite frequent. I'm like, I just, I
- 5:03make a beeline for the captain. Is this something
- 5:07you do, Scott, everywhere you visit, the first
- 5:10thing you do is beeline into their kitchen and
- 5:11be like, oh yeah, you too? I've been told that
- 5:14when I was a little tiny kid, like a year old,
- 5:17I was obsessed with vacuum cleaners and I would
- 5:19go into people's houses and I would like open
- 5:20up the closet and be like, is this your vacuum
- 5:22cleaner? And they'd be like, yep. And then there'd
- 5:24be like five Mississippi of silence. And then
- 5:26I'd be like, Can you turn it on? So I've just
- 5:29carried that sort of thing with me to my adult
- 5:30life, but it's become about the. But now it's
- 5:33changed to microwave ventilation. It's crazy.
- 5:36And then what I do is I fling the cabinets open
- 5:39and then I go, I laugh and turn around to see
- 5:41who's looking so I can exclaim, this one's not
- 5:43vented either. And then I can shake my head and
- 5:46move on with my day. That's pretty much my routine.
- 5:49On today's episode of A Touch of the Downs, we
- 5:53realize what Scott's into and why he's into it.
- 5:55It's a spectrum. I'm high -functioning. No, no.
- 5:58You know, they call it... They call it high -masking.
- 6:02Do you know that? Oh, okay. No, I had no idea.
- 6:05I just call it a little bit of the tisms. Some
- 6:09light tism. So hey, you know what speaking high
- 6:12speaking of this of high light to moderate autism
- 6:15what you got for us today Check this out. We'll
- 6:18start light. Well holiday decorating brings joy
- 6:20to many families But for some it also brings
- 6:23sneezing and congestion doctors say Christmas
- 6:26trees and store decorations can trigger allergy
- 6:29like symptoms Dr. Chris Brooks with Ohio State
- 6:32University says live trees aren't the only culprit
- 6:36Artificial trees stored in basements or attics
- 6:39collect dust mold and even critter droppings
- 6:42that can irritate your nose and lungs. When trees
- 6:45are cut down, brought to the house in our indoor
- 6:49environment, which can be warmer and more humid
- 6:52in the outdoor environment, there can be molds
- 6:54that can grow. So Brooks recommends. Well, OK,
- 6:58now what do you think that they're going to tell
- 7:00you that that doctor recommends? Banning Christmas
- 7:05trees is probably going to end up on the FDA's
- 7:08list of banned substances. for the entire United
- 7:12States. In fact, I can't wait to hear Kennedy
- 7:14get up and talk about how HHS has now got an
- 7:20entire list of shrubberies, trees, plants, and
- 7:24things that are now banned in the household.
- 7:26You can't have them. Some boats that are transporting
- 7:29holiday decor, we're just going to blow them
- 7:30out of the water with stinger missiles. Oh, dude,
- 7:34fantastic. You get a bell. You get two bells.
- 7:37I can't wait to see how the black market responds
- 7:41to the tree ban. And you know, when Mexico and
- 7:46Venezuela and all these places get a hold of
- 7:49Christmas tree farms and start smuggling them
- 7:52through the border, it's going to be fantastic.
- 7:54Of course, it's going to put a lot of Idaho people
- 7:57out of work. Took up a germs people are gonna
- 8:00have problems with that. I'm so glad that you
- 8:03did not unlike eat sleep and shop I'm really
- 8:06glad that you did not guess What the news is
- 8:09gonna tell us that this doctor recommended if
- 8:11you have dusty holiday decor here goes So Brooks
- 8:16recommends wearing a mask, wearing a mask, wearing
- 8:19a mask when unpacking dusty decorations and storing
- 8:23holiday items in dry areas to prevent mold. He
- 8:26says cleaning artificial trees before setting
- 8:28them up can also help reduce symptoms for anyone
- 8:31who's affected. Man, I preferred the band. I
- 8:35preferred the band. Can you imagine? They're
- 8:40serious. Are we going to have to show them our
- 8:43Christmas decor? fax cards or something like
- 8:47that in order to get into a Christmas concert.
- 8:50I can't. They want you to wear a mask while you
- 8:57decorate. How about now? Yeah, no, thanks, man.
- 9:02Oh, God. Would you have guessed that if I gave
- 9:05you five more guesses they were going to tell
- 9:07you to freaking mask up? I don't. Should have
- 9:11I don't think I would have that's just not the
- 9:13way my brain thinks I was thinking, you know
- 9:16get rid of it clean it Store it in a better environment
- 9:21You know just give up Christmas you crazy Christians
- 9:25Take your pick masks was actually not on that
- 9:28bingo card. I should know better though. That's
- 9:30embarrassing hide your faces guys That's the
- 9:32always the answer. I can't wait to see the family
- 9:36Christmas cards with the family Christmas pictures
- 9:38that come from that one Yep, just like, you know,
- 9:41people really did do that in 2020 and 2021. Absolutely.
- 9:45Come on, kids gather around the tree. We got
- 9:47to take pictures for grandma and papa and everybody
- 9:50put on a face diaper. Here we go. Oh, my God.
- 9:55All right. I don't want to. You're the reason
- 9:57everything sucks. You're a menace to society,
- 9:59son. Go to your room. Hey, grandma, my cheeks
- 10:02hurt. We need to move on to something serious.
- 10:04How about. some junkies in jail. In the meantime,
- 10:08we are also tracking an investigation with the
- 10:10Kootenai County Sheriff's Office after multiple
- 10:13fentanyl overdoses took place in the Kootenai
- 10:15County Jail. That incident happened on Saturday.
- 10:18Crime Chief Regan Gallo spent today investigating
- 10:20into this situation and she is joining us now
- 10:23live with more on what she knows. Regan. Yeah,
- 10:26well the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office tells
- 10:28me that six inmates experienced overdose symptoms.
- 10:32And at the time of this incident, Kootenai County
- 10:35Sheriff's Office asked local law enforcement
- 10:37and partner agencies to only arrest crew. That
- 10:40was a nice little emphasis there. I wouldn't
- 10:42mind you throwing in that baseline just throughout
- 10:44the show. That was pretty good. arrest crucial
- 10:46offenders because here staffing was so low six
- 10:50out of the nine sheriff deputies at the jail
- 10:52had to transport that's a isn't that because
- 10:54money right when does that not the answer see
- 10:58the reason why drugs got into cootie county jail
- 11:01is because we don't have enough money give us
- 11:04your money He's at the jail had to transport
- 11:08those inmates to the hospital leaving only three
- 11:11deputies on site and they say this created a
- 11:14critical staffing. This chick's like breathless
- 11:17too. Like calm down. She's excited. It was critical.
- 11:21She needs to get a hold of some of that fentanyl
- 11:23for herself. Just, you know, calm the nerves.
- 11:25Critical staffing issue. Trying to figure out
- 11:28how it was induced. as well as who supplied it
- 11:31once it was inside the jail. That's right. By
- 11:32the way, that is the voice of the same lieutenant
- 11:35who was meeting with the Kootenai County Commissioners
- 11:37about the heli, Mark Ellis. I wonder if he's
- 11:41going to go back to the Kootenai County Commissioners
- 11:43and be like, and this is why we need a helicopter.
- 11:46We totally would not have had drugs in the jail
- 11:48if you just give us a helicopter. We could have
- 11:52gotten up in this helicopter and flown around
- 11:54the whole town and dropped Narcan everywhere.
- 11:58And then this never would have happened. County
- 12:01Sheriff's Office say they arrested current inmate
- 12:0337 year old Raymond D Spezi for possession of
- 12:06a controlled substance inside a correctional
- 12:09facility. Lieutenant Mark Ellis says none of
- 12:11the inmates who took fentanyl died and Narcan
- 12:14was administered. The main question remains how
- 12:17the drugs got inside the facility. Lieutenant
- 12:20Ellis added the situation highlighted two issues.
- 12:23First, contraband items being brought and passed
- 12:25through the jail. One of the biggest threats
- 12:28we have right now is that drugs are being laced
- 12:31into the U .S. mail to come into our inmates.
- 12:33And so for this year's budget, we put in for
- 12:35a mail scanner that would actually be able to
- 12:37detect any illegal drugs on the mail. And second,
- 12:40low jail staffing. Our staffing right now is
- 12:42very low. We only have about nine deputies inside
- 12:44the entire jail for 500 inmates. He says for
- 12:47about 500 inmates in the Cooney County Jail,
- 12:50it is standard to have 13 deputies per shift.
- 12:52Right now, only nine deputies are staffed per
- 12:56shift. That took about six of our deputies of
- 12:59our nine deputies. being transported to the hospital.
- 13:02So when you have a critical incident like this,
- 13:04it's pretty shattering. It really depletes all
- 13:07our resources real quick. We actually, our patrol
- 13:09deputies came in, they came in to help with the
- 13:11investigations and then to make sure the jail
- 13:13was still safe. Lieutenant Ellis also noted more
- 13:15deputies are being hired, but it can take time
- 13:18for both onboarding and training. Lieutenant
- 13:21Ellis also says he cannot confirm that fentanyl
- 13:25in this specific situation came in through the
- 13:28mailing system. However, he notes that contraband
- 13:31items coming through the mailing system is one
- 13:33of the jail's biggest vulnerabilities, which
- 13:35is why they are trying to address the issue with
- 13:38new mailing scanners. That's a little bit like,
- 13:41say, like the argument that gun ban enthusiasts
- 13:46use. Usually he's like, look. look over here
- 13:49somebody got killed by a gun and that's why we
- 13:51need to ban assault rifles yep but the guy used
- 13:53a 357 like yeah an assault pistol rifle thing
- 13:59a fully non -semi -automatic revolver so we need
- 14:03to ban this other thing i mean i'm being a little
- 14:06glib because it's easy to be glib but they're
- 14:09in a tough spot they have policies they have
- 14:11to follow or they get sued they have policies
- 14:14they have to follow or they get fired policies
- 14:16they have to follow or their consequences ensue,
- 14:20because that's the framework in place. But I'll
- 14:22tell you what would help a lot with the staffing
- 14:24issue. This is pretty crazy. So stick with me
- 14:27here. Don't put people in jail for victimless
- 14:31crimes. I'm just saying one of the reasons why
- 14:35Kootenai County is overflowing and beyond capacity
- 14:38year after year after year is because we put
- 14:42people in jail for doing drugs. So, I feel like
- 14:59it's so self -evident, I'm tripping over my own
- 15:02words to even make the point, but it blows my
- 15:04mind how many people talk about this and don't
- 15:06notice the fact that when you put people in jail
- 15:08for victimless crimes, which they shouldn't be
- 15:10there in the first place, and then you're shocked
- 15:11that the jail is overflowing, and then you complain
- 15:15that you need more money, from a thinking person's
- 15:17perspective, how about no? Along those lines,
- 15:20check this out. This is a different story, but
- 15:22to your freaking point, a federal civil rights
- 15:24lawsuit is now putting the Idaho Department of
- 15:27Correction back under scrutiny after the family
- 15:30of a late inmate says the state failed to protect
- 15:32him behind bars. Milo Warnock was jailed on a
- 15:35DUI and later beaten to death by a cellmate.
- 15:38And I'm hearing from an attorney and a former
- 15:41insider who say the system failed him. Milo Warnock
- 15:44was held by but placed with a very d ended up
- 15:58being brutally and killed without any p IDOC
- 16:06or their staff that to protect him is now at
- 16:10civil rights lawsuit filed accusing IDOC of violating
- 16:16Warnick's constitutional rights and causing his
- 16:18wrongful death. Court records show Warnick, a
- 16:21non -violent offender, was housed in Maximum
- 16:24Security G Block, an area described in the lawsuit
- 16:27as chronically understaffed. He was placed in
- 16:30a cell with James Johnson, a seven time convicted
- 16:33felon with a documented history of violence.
- 16:35Johnson later pleaded guilty to first degree
- 16:37murder and was sentenced to life in prison. The
- 16:40lawsuit alleges that for more than an hour, no
- 16:42correctional officer conducted required safety
- 16:44checks while Warnick was being attacked. Attorneys
- 16:47say both Warnick and Johnson warned staff that
- 16:50their housing placement was dangerous and asked
- 16:52to be separated. The Department of Correction
- 16:54did not take action to protect Milo and the inevitable
- 16:58happened. The lawsuit alleges multiple violations
- 17:00of federal law, including dangerous housing placement,
- 17:03ignoring requests to move, chronic understaffing
- 17:06and failure to conduct proper safety checks.
- 17:08It also brings a wrongful death claim on behalf
- 17:11of Warnick's disabled son. The Idaho Department
- 17:13of Correction has not yet responded to our request
- 17:16for comment. So just to. Not necessarily is DUI
- 17:21a victimless crime. It might be, it might not
- 17:23be, depending on how egregious we're talking
- 17:26about, but part of the problem is that there's
- 17:28so much in between zero and a hundred with regard
- 17:31to DUI. I also don't know anything about this
- 17:34guy's criminal history to why he would be in
- 17:36such a position that he finds himself repeated
- 17:39whatever and DUIs of people driving under the
- 17:43influence can of course create victims with their
- 17:45actions. However, There is a lot of gray area.
- 17:48I've heard enough stories of, oh, you know, you
- 17:52you had two and a half beers and you blew one
- 17:55point whatever over the legal limit. And so anyway,
- 17:58I just that that story, what you said reminded
- 18:00me of it because, you know, here's a guy who's
- 18:02like a nonviolent offender. What's that guy doing
- 18:05in that jail cell? Well, everything about the
- 18:07situation is wrong from top to bottom. I can't
- 18:10I can't even make any jokes about it. I'm not
- 18:12going to. I've been through the system a couple
- 18:16of times, and all of it has been for, of course,
- 18:18nonviolent offenses, victimless crimes. And it's
- 18:22all been politically motivated and things of
- 18:25that nature. And I won't go into that. But suffice
- 18:27it to say, I have enough experience with the
- 18:28system to tell you that it's shocking, but not
- 18:31surprising. And it's messed up. And the DUI scene
- 18:36is a cottage industry for all departments everywhere
- 18:40nationally. They're particularly aggressive about
- 18:43it up here. And it is a money -making machine.
- 18:48They give each other awards for it. The cops
- 18:50do. They give each other awards for who can pop
- 18:53the most DUIs. And it's popular. That's the problem
- 18:55is everybody has been conditioned to think that
- 18:59it's like the almost short of being racist or
- 19:02something like that. A DUI is one of the worst
- 19:04crimes you can commit, which is absurd. And so
- 19:08there's a whole lot of support for being aggressive
- 19:11on DUIs, which is also a victimless crime. Is
- 19:14it foolish? Yes. Is it smart? No. Should you
- 19:17do it? No. But you got systemic issues from top
- 19:21to bottom. Number one, point zero eight. Like
- 19:23that's different for everybody. Everybody's size,
- 19:26shape, who they are, how they, how they, their
- 19:29body chemistry, their biochemistry, how they
- 19:31metabolize stuff. It's all very different. Two
- 19:33beers to one person is different than two beers
- 19:36to another person. And yet you've standardized
- 19:38it across the entire population. Somehow, that's
- 19:41the way to go. And then once you're in the system,
- 19:43it's hard to extricate yourself from the system.
- 19:45And it's expensive. And every step of the way,
- 19:47they charge you for everything. It is a money
- 19:51machine. It's a cottage industry all on its own.
- 19:54And there's entire companies that make all of
- 19:57their bread on this cottage industry. And the
- 20:01County legal system, it props them up. And the
- 20:04police departments, it helps prop them up. The
- 20:06money money gets funneled towards both of them,
- 20:08too. So There's a real incentive to keep it pumping.
- 20:12At the end of the day, it's pre -crime. So I
- 20:15disagree. You know, again, I'm not pro -DUI.
- 20:17Everybody immediately goes, oh, you're pro -DUI
- 20:19or you're, you know, it's like, no, obviously
- 20:21I'm not. It's a foolish to drive under the influence.
- 20:25The act itself is a victimless act. It's when
- 20:31something happens in there, then they're, you
- 20:32know, you damage somebody's property or them
- 20:34and then you've got a real case. Now there's
- 20:36a crime. then you should go to jail and you should
- 20:39pay restitution and all that kind of stuff. But
- 20:41otherwise it's pre -crime. That is what Dewey's
- 20:43are, it's pre -crime. Very expensive, revenue
- 20:47-generating pre -crime for the county and the
- 20:49state and all the departments that suckle at
- 20:52that teat. So this guy goes into jail for essentially
- 20:56pre -crime, hurts nobody, and gets killed by
- 21:01his roommate, bunkmate. That's messed up. It's
- 21:05a messed up story. And so now I think this is
- 21:08here's another but I know we're going to go back
- 21:10to the fentanyl OD in the Kootenai County jail.
- 21:12But before we do, this is I believe what and
- 21:15this again, this also just happened. This is
- 21:19what people I believe are envisioning when they
- 21:21think of DUI without any nuance. Well, on November
- 21:2429th, a drunk driver killed Anika Wilson and
- 21:27her boyfriend Leo Shepherd. Now Anika's family
- 21:31is pushing for stricter DUI laws in Idaho. So
- 21:34the two were driving from Springfield, Utah to
- 21:36Boise when a drunk driver got on the wrong side
- 21:39of the interstate and hit their car head on.
- 21:43Officers arrested the driver in Salt Lake County
- 21:45on two counts of automobile homicide and driving
- 21:48under the influence. Anika's aunt, Jennifer Wilson,
- 21:51says the family wants stricter punishments for
- 21:54drunk driving in both Utah and Idaho. There needs
- 21:57to be more deterrent. for people who are inebriated
- 22:01driving under the influence, whether it's alcohol,
- 22:03drugs, whatever. In Idaho, the first DUI within
- 22:0610 years is a misdemeanor and up to six months
- 22:09in jail. More DUIs after that could mean up to
- 22:13one year in jail. The Wilsons say these punishments
- 22:15are not enough to deter people from drunk driving.
- 22:18They say Idaho and Utah legislators need to increase
- 22:21the minimum sentencing for DUI offenders. create
- 22:24more DUI checkpoints, and take away licenses
- 22:27from offenders. The problem is that in between
- 22:31getting rad -assed falling down drunk on a on
- 22:35a handle of Jack Daniels and then getting on
- 22:39an off ramp and going down I -90 on the wrong
- 22:43side of the road and killing two people in a
- 22:46head -on collision and my cousin at 22 years
- 22:50old getting popped point one oh after three beers
- 22:55well that's called the same thing they're both
- 22:58DUI there's just not enough nuance there those
- 23:02are not the same thing correct but the system
- 23:05is largely not built to account for nuance that's
- 23:08part of the problem that's why mandatory minimum
- 23:11sentencing is such an issue that's one will I'm
- 23:13sure we'll touch on at some point someday and
- 23:17of course This is so predictable, you know, somebody
- 23:20suffers a tragedy and then because it is a tragedy,
- 23:24man, it's such a modern day human thing to suffer
- 23:28a tragedy and then be like, this should never,
- 23:30ever, ever happen again. Go on a crusade. And
- 23:32that's right. And the answer to making sure this
- 23:36never, ever happens again is to restrict everybody
- 23:39else's freedoms more. You know, what we need
- 23:42is less freedom always. If it just if it just
- 23:45saves one life. then it's worth giving up all
- 23:48of your freedoms and money. And I can hear how,
- 23:52you know, the Pearl Clutchers would like, you
- 23:56know, take a very, very sharp, deep breath in
- 23:59at that. No. Are you saying that you should be
- 24:03free to drive drunk? Like that's how they hear
- 24:06what you just said. And obviously, I'm super
- 24:09pro drunk driver because that's, you know, if
- 24:12if if I'm anti Biden, that must mean I'm pro
- 24:14Trump. There's no way that you can have an opinion
- 24:19that is not completely dichotic. Here's a perfect
- 24:22example of having something happen to you personally
- 24:26and then going on a crusade and how it might
- 24:28not be what it appears. McDonald's used to cook
- 24:32their french fries in beef tallow. That's how
- 24:35they gained their reputation as the world's most
- 24:38amazing french fries, 50s, 60s, 70s. There was
- 24:42a guy whose name is escaping me. Who suffered
- 24:45a heart attack and he was a very wealthy guy
- 24:48and he it was he was fairly young you might have
- 24:50been in like his 30s mid late 30s something like
- 24:52that look up his name and He became convinced
- 24:57that his heart attack was caused by Cholesterol
- 25:01from animal fat because that was the I suppose
- 25:04prevailing You know wisdom at the time, you know
- 25:08from the boomers who were like, you know eating
- 25:10margarine And had the upside -down food pyramid,
- 25:13you know, and so he went on a personal crusade
- 25:16He he he literally like used his fortune to buy
- 25:20Full -page ads in the New York Times and you
- 25:24know go on, you know buy his way on to talk shows
- 25:27He went on a one -man crusade to eliminate animal
- 25:31fats from I guess the American diet and but by
- 25:35targeting the fast food industry because in his
- 25:37mind he believed this was the culprit His pressure
- 25:41campaign is ultimately what led McDonald's to
- 25:45cease using beef tallow to cook their fries and
- 25:47I think in like 1991 or two or something like
- 25:50that They finally caved and made the change and
- 25:52of course enough to this day They're cooked in
- 25:55whatever the hell, you know vegetable oil not
- 25:58animal fat The fries have never been the same
- 26:01They've never changed back. Although now finally
- 26:04in recent years is starting to become more mainstream
- 26:09again that people are realizing, oh, that was
- 26:12never the right move in the first place. That
- 26:14whole thing was based on it. Yeah, well, it turns
- 26:15out that beef tallow is great for you and now
- 26:19everything's moving back the other direction.
- 26:20It turns out that real butter is good for you.
- 26:23Which is a shocker, who knew? It turns out that
- 26:25all of the things, plants and animals that God
- 26:28put on this earth for us to consume are what
- 26:31we are meant to consume. What a shock. So the
- 26:40whole point here that I'm making is when you
- 26:42have that phenomenon of the individual who goes
- 26:46on a like sort of Fanatical crusade because of
- 26:49something that happened to them personally It
- 26:52comes out, you know much later that that whole
- 26:56thing was like a fog of personal war. And you
- 27:00see what I'm saying? It becomes sort of ideological.
- 27:02Well, like, what are you saying, Scott? Are you
- 27:04pro -heart attack? Like, that's kind of the same
- 27:06thing. Were you pro -driving under the influence?
- 27:09Like, no, I just - No, I'm pro -French fries
- 27:11being delicious. As you and I know, and as everybody
- 27:16who has the same philosophy as we do, freedom
- 27:20carries risk. That's the trade -off. Like, as
- 27:23Thomas Sowell Has said with the greatest economist
- 27:26of our time and there are and that's in good
- 27:28company There's a lot of good economists in the
- 27:31Austrian school of thought there that he that
- 27:33he keeps good company with but he's one of my
- 27:35faves if not my all -time fave and as he says
- 27:37there there is no such thing as a perfect solution
- 27:39only trade -offs and the problem is most people
- 27:42are always on the hunt for the perfect solution
- 27:44and ultimately it means usually more money out
- 27:46of everybody else's pockets and less freedom
- 27:48and But there's the trade -off freedom requires
- 27:52some risk. It is not perfectly safe. It can't
- 27:55be by by its very nature. It's impossible. So
- 28:00there are a lot of us who are willing to accept
- 28:03a higher level of risk than others. And that's
- 28:05where the state comes in and wrecks everything,
- 28:08because people who want less risk, they can still
- 28:10find ways to live their lives with less risk,
- 28:14find ways to mitigate it, and they're free to
- 28:15do so and power to you, man. But the moment you
- 28:19get the state involved now, Everybody has to
- 28:22live that way. And that's the problem. I don't
- 28:25desire security. I desire freedom. However, those
- 28:30who desire security get to strip me of my freedom.
- 28:34And it's a race to the bottom. So what are you
- 28:37guys saying? You're saying that in order to,
- 28:39you know, have more liberty that you want to
- 28:41risk being on the road with people who are drunk.
- 28:43And I think, yeah, the answer and have french
- 28:45fries. Yes. Yes. I believe you should be free
- 28:48to buy a tub of tallow drenched french fries
- 28:53and have a beer in the center console and go
- 28:57home with those things in your in your rig and
- 29:00listen to rock and roll while you do it and have
- 29:03a great time and Until you do something that
- 29:07harms somebody else in some way should perform
- 29:10it until you do have at it man Enjoy those fries
- 29:13and that beer You have the right to do so I'm
- 29:17willing to take those risks and I know someone
- 29:19might also say well You've never been impacted
- 29:21by a drunk driver. No, that's not true Very close
- 29:24family friend of ours who was like a grandfather
- 29:26to me a very kindly man He was killed by a drunk
- 29:29driver shoot when I was like 12 years old and
- 29:31I know other people I'm not unaffected. It's
- 29:34just That's the trade -off now. I need to okay.
- 29:38Hold on. Who was the guy who? went on the campaign
- 29:45to make McDonald's stop using beef tallow. Worse.
- 29:51To make McDonald's worse. There he is. Phil Sokoloff
- 29:57is his name. Oh, here's his great how more like
- 30:01Phil sucks a lot. Nice. Sokoloff was an. Oh,
- 30:06this is how chat. He describes him an Omaha based
- 30:09health activist. People less healthy even though
- 30:14he didn't know he was doing it Slash businessman
- 30:17who led the campaign the pressure McDonald's
- 30:18to stop by okay, blah blah after surviving a
- 30:21heart attack in 1966 Sokoloff founded what he
- 30:25called the National Heart Savers Association
- 30:28and that That institution sounds way better than
- 30:32the National Frye Worseners Association. That
- 30:36was their original name He began a public crusade
- 30:40against saturated fats. He spent a significant
- 30:42amount of money on full -page newspaper ads,
- 30:44like I was saying, and strong headlines like
- 30:47the poisoning of America, calling out excessive
- 30:50fat, and the use of beef, tallow, and fries,
- 30:53especially targeting McDonald's. The pressure
- 30:54is widely credited. Okay, but that's kind of
- 30:56what I said. So that was his name, Phil Sokoloff.
- 30:58Meanwhile, aspartame in sodas is cool, and margarine
- 31:01is cool. Those are okay. That's the thing this
- 31:04this this guy like he's he was 180 degrees wrong
- 31:07in his premise, but he was fanatical. He had
- 31:10the fanaticism behind him of someone who had
- 31:13been personally wronged by what he viewed, you
- 31:16know, with this thing that he viewed that did
- 31:18it to him. But he was not correct in his premise.
- 31:22And so he spent his whole life fighting an upside
- 31:24down battle. And he made everyone's health worse,
- 31:28even though that wasn't his intention. It's a
- 31:31pretty sick irony, isn't it? Clown world. We
- 31:35need to do something more lighthearted, but I
- 31:37want to go back to the fentanyl thing because
- 31:38I have a couple other sources and how they covered
- 31:40it. Kind of lighthearted. Yeah, yeah, it's very
- 31:42I will say this. I'm very impressed. Say what
- 31:46you want about tweakers, but their resourcefulness
- 31:49is unmatched, unmatched. I mean, you know, like
- 31:53I walk into a field. And I look and I go, this
- 31:56is beautiful. Look at that sunset. They walk
- 31:58into a field and they go look at all that copper.
- 32:00I can strip out of those sprinklers. They always
- 32:02find a way. Here's how NPR Idaho NPR covered
- 32:07it. The dulcet tones of NPR now to a jail in
- 32:12North Idaho where a half dozen inmates experienced
- 32:15a reported overdose of fentanyl. The Kootenai
- 32:18County Sheriff's Office says this past weekend
- 32:20two inmates appear to be overdosing. Staff identified
- 32:24four other inmates shortly thereafter. They had
- 32:26signs of overdose. They administered Narcan and
- 32:29all six were transported to a local hospital
- 32:32for treatment before returning to jail. Meanwhile,
- 32:35one of those six inmates was charged with drug
- 32:38possession inside a correctional institution.
- 32:45I wonder if he's already in jail for drug possession.
- 32:48I kind of I want to know what are the original
- 32:50charges? It's got to be like also drug possession.
- 32:53So they just slap another one on for good measure
- 32:55there. That'll teach you, you know, if we put
- 32:58them in jail, Scott, they won't have access to
- 33:00drugs along those lines. Have you noticed how
- 33:04the drug boat, which is just wall to wall in
- 33:08the national scene, the drug boat stuff, everyone's
- 33:11just paras on fire about the drug boats on both
- 33:13sides. Have you noticed how? it is being framed
- 33:18as something that is being done to quote Americans.
- 33:23These drugs are being funneled over here and
- 33:27they're killing, they're killing 25 billion Americans
- 33:31every second. That's the framing is that this
- 33:33is happening to you. I mean, even I mean, if
- 33:36you hear what are the NPR jail in North Idaho
- 33:38where a half dozen inmates experienced a reported
- 33:41overdose, they experienced an overdose. They
- 33:44just they were eating their meal off of their
- 33:47little plastic tray and they experienced an overdose.
- 33:49What happened? I just find the whole thing to
- 33:53be unbelievable. How how in the world is this
- 33:58is we're sort of talking about this a little
- 33:59bit the other because we were texting about this
- 34:01story. How are so many people like, oh, every
- 34:04other story is someone had some sort of a shank
- 34:08that had been smuggled into them. They have drugs,
- 34:12they have contraband, they're trading, you know,
- 34:15for cigarettes, for commissary money. Like how
- 34:17in the world, and I think we know the answer,
- 34:20how so much stuff seems to be getting into jails.
- 34:23It has to be because the jail overseers are either
- 34:26looking the other way or part of it. Am I missing
- 34:28something? How else is that happening? It's a
- 34:31really great question. I don't know. That's why
- 34:34I say I'm so impressed because when they process
- 34:37you in, they are very thorough. They check everything.
- 34:43How would you know again? To paraphrase the public
- 34:46radio guy experience. And you're saying they
- 34:50check everything? Everything. It's not a good
- 35:11time. So it does. I'm impressed. How how do you
- 35:15get drugs in there? It's hard to get stuff in
- 35:17and out of there. Like when I got mailed, my
- 35:20things legitimately mailed like books and letters
- 35:23and things like that that were supposed to get
- 35:25to me, they never even got to me. Ten days and
- 35:27that shit never got to me. And only when I was
- 35:28getting processed out and they were like, oh,
- 35:30by the way, we have all your personal belongings.
- 35:32Not cool. They'll hold your stuff if they don't
- 35:34like you. Let's do something like just there's
- 35:37one more thing that comes to mind before we move
- 35:39on to something a little more light hearted about
- 35:41the drugs. This is another thing you and I were
- 35:43joking about. How in the world are folks in these
- 35:47situations? You've got a parole officer that
- 35:49checks on you every other day. You know, you're
- 35:51in a you're in a prison cell. How are some of
- 35:54these folks enjoying the high? That's a great
- 35:58question, too. That would be stressful. You know,
- 36:02but then again, we're dealing with. We're dealing
- 36:04with people who are known, I think, you know,
- 36:05they have a history of making suboptimal decisions,
- 36:07which is why they kind of find themselves where
- 36:09they find themselves. But it does make you wonder,
- 36:13like, what did you expect to get out of this?
- 36:15Other than a free hospital trip, I guess. You
- 36:18know, I know people who, you know, who are total
- 36:21or like normal, sane individuals who don't have
- 36:23any problem with the law or any parole officer
- 36:25knocking on any door. And, you know, they take
- 36:27like half a hit off a joint and they feel all
- 36:31paranoid. It definitely depends on how your brain
- 36:34works and there are a lot of people who are that
- 36:36way actually Marijuana cannabis is excellent
- 36:39at bringing the focus in I know folks who lift
- 36:43weights on cannabis because they feel like they
- 36:46get better returns because they can focus more
- 36:48on their movements and their finer Muscle movements
- 36:51actually they get more out of it. It's interesting
- 36:53the jujitsu community Yeah, the jujitsu community
- 36:58is actually big into cannabis because they feel
- 37:01that They get better focus and jujitsu is a discipline
- 37:05that requires a great deal of focus so on and
- 37:08so forth but there's another contingent of the
- 37:10population that have a much harder time with
- 37:12it because While it may allow you to hone in
- 37:14and focus on things if you have a more active
- 37:17mind or you're more anxiety prone it can help
- 37:21Force you to focus in on things that cause you
- 37:24anxiety and stress and it will elevate that that
- 37:27situation So I know folks who can't engage in
- 37:30cannabis at all because of those reasons. It's
- 37:33rough. So I have no experience when it comes
- 37:36to fentanyl. I don't plan to add that to my resume
- 37:39anytime soon. So I don't know how that one behaves,
- 37:42other than most of the time it sends you to the
- 37:44hospital. But it makes you want to ask these
- 37:46people, like, why are you the way that you are?
- 37:50Okay, here's some empty calories before we take
- 37:54a quick breather here. Also in Idaho, the Transportation
- 37:56Department has announced the winners of its Name
- 37:58a Snowplow contest. The two winners were Control
- 38:02-Salt -Delete, which came from teacher Christy
- 38:05Dukes and students at Mullen School District,
- 38:07and Snowby Juan Kenobi from Danae Glenn and students
- 38:11at Post Falls High School. Other notable winners
- 38:14include Betty Whiteout in Southwest Idaho and
- 38:17Scooby Doo in South Central Region. Snow be one
- 38:22Kenobi for the win Control salt delete. Yeah,
- 38:25that one's a close second. That's a close second
- 38:27all pretty good my my car my Subaru when we It's
- 38:31still actually I've never changed the name But
- 38:32the the Bluetooth name on it whoever had it first
- 38:35named named my car Wanda And I've never changed
- 38:37it because I thought I would call it obi -wanda
- 38:40Kenobi. Oh you Star Wars nerds Yeah before Disney
- 38:45ruined it Man, why is every why are these big
- 38:47corporations ruining their their? Cornerstone
- 38:50like just cook the freaking Star Wars in the
- 38:53beef tallow man. That's what everybody wants
- 38:55Yes, and let me drink it while I drive All right,
- 38:59that said this show is a value for value proposition.
- 39:04No ID is a value for value podcast That means
- 39:08that if you like what you hear and what you are
- 39:12hearing is now every Thursday, thank you then
- 39:15we ask that you contribute if you find it valuable
- 39:17that you contribute value back to the show and
- 39:20You can do so with your time your talent or your
- 39:22treasure at no ID show calm There's a contact
- 39:26widget where you can get in touch with us and
- 39:28send us boots on the ground reports. There is
- 39:32there are links to PayPal and Venmo and YouTube
- 39:36and Patreon and all of these things that are
- 39:38supposedly avenues by which to see our content
- 39:41and send donations. That's the treasure portion.
- 39:44If you find our show worthwhile and like something
- 39:48you'd like to see continue to be posted every
- 39:50Thursday. Oh, by the way, another, it's something
- 39:53we've have failed to mention. Another thing that
- 39:55is valuable is spreading the word, letting people
- 39:59know about the show. Podcasts spread by word
- 40:02of mouth. That is the real marketing behind anything
- 40:06that develops from the ground up. Especially
- 40:08because we're struggling with our email list.
- 40:10So a lot of the emails are going into spam, even
- 40:13when we've been interacting with them. My own,
- 40:15I'm still having troubles with it going into
- 40:17spam, even after I've marked it, not spam. So
- 40:21if somehow you've managed to find this podcast
- 40:23and you are on the email list or you want to
- 40:26get on the email list, you go to our website
- 40:28and you get on the email list. But if you are
- 40:30on that list and you still aren't seeing them,
- 40:32please check your spam and also let other people
- 40:35know to check their spam and then try to market,
- 40:37not spam. See if that works. Hopefully it does.
- 40:41Also, as far as value for value goes, I think
- 40:43it's important to note that if you value what
- 40:45we do, we do appreciate the time, talent and
- 40:47treasure. But if you decide you hate what we
- 40:50do, you can't ask us for refunds. Sorry. It only
- 40:53works one way. Much like another entity that
- 40:55comes to mind. The government. Is that where
- 40:58we were going with that? I did get here. Just
- 41:00so you know, this is a real notice that I got
- 41:04from the county. I'd like to read it to you.
- 41:06So thank you guys. No ID show .com. And please
- 41:09send us some value back in any form you see fit.
- 41:19And thank you in advance. Or if you got hot tips,
- 41:22let us know, man. Or if you got just feedback
- 41:24or criticism or compliments. Obviously, we prefer
- 41:27the former over the latter. But, you know, you
- 41:30do you, boo. Tell us what's up. We're listening.
- 41:33Dear Kootenay County taxpayers. This letter is
- 41:37to clarify a component of your included property
- 41:39tax bill. This amount displayed. uh it is due
- 41:42for several reasons because there's a judgment
- 41:45levy a lawsuit was filed against the state of
- 41:47idaho challenging the values of operating property
- 41:50belonging to avista and rathdrum power the legal
- 41:55challenge resulted in a reduction of in the value
- 41:58of these properties for the past tax years which
- 42:00is 2020 through 2024 as a result of this court
- 42:04ruling kootenai county is required to facilitate
- 42:06a refund of a portion of the taxes previously
- 42:09paid by these companies The affected taxing districts,
- 42:12having already budgeted for and utilized these
- 42:14funds, experienced a loss in revenue. How this
- 42:17affects your bill. Idaho law permits taxing districts
- 42:20to issue an additional levy within two years
- 42:22to recover their proportionate share of the refunded
- 42:28money. I heard about this. The levy rate listed
- 42:30on your statement includes this additional judgment
- 42:32levy. This is the mechanism by which these districts
- 42:34are recapturing the funds that were lost due
- 42:36to the tax refunds issued to Avista and Rathrum
- 42:39Power. We understand that tax increases can raise
- 42:42questions. We are providing this information
- 42:44to ensure that you can go fry ice and give us
- 42:47your money immediately. Sincerely, the Kootenai
- 42:49County treasurer. OK, so now here's what we messed
- 42:53up. We lost in court. Now you guys get to help
- 42:56us pay. That's my understanding. Now, if you
- 42:58distill this down, I read it like three times.
- 43:00So I was making sure I read this right. They
- 43:02overvalued the properties of Avista and Rathrum
- 43:06Power. Avista and Rathrum Power sued. or whatever,
- 43:10used the legal system to say, hey, you're overvaluing
- 43:14our properties and therefore overtaxing us. That
- 43:17was found to be true. Kootenai County did overvalue
- 43:19and overtax. Had to then refund the companies
- 43:22that they overcharged in the first place. And
- 43:24in order to, quote, recapture the money, they
- 43:27just raise taxes on the citizens. Levy is the
- 43:32proper term, sir. It's a much more polite term.
- 43:34Sorry, Levy, my mistake. Isn't that wonderful?
- 43:40Home rentership man. What a dream Let's go to
- 43:46This okay. Here's another important story from
- 43:48this past week because we covered Teresa left
- 43:53and pull getting dragged out of that KCR CC town
- 43:57hall that wasn't really a town hall and how the
- 44:00sheriff Bob Norris was not going to be charged
- 44:03in that incident for directing some plain clothes
- 44:06security guards to essentially grab her by her
- 44:10hammer and sickle and drag her out of the of
- 44:13the auditorium. And just to get one of them.
- 44:16And she did. Yeah. Oh, always a good sign biting.
- 44:20Just in three security guards charged in relation
- 44:22to the incident at the Kootenai County Republican
- 44:25Central Committee Town Hall that happened earlier
- 44:27this year. Appeared to have their cases dropped.
- 44:30Jesse Jones, Christopher Berg and Russell Dunn
- 44:33were facing several charges, including battery.
- 44:36They removed a woman who they say was disturbing
- 44:38that meeting at the time, but the investigation
- 44:41unveiled some violations by the private security
- 44:43firm. Those three guards cases have been vacated
- 44:47according to online court records. of Lear Asset
- 44:50Management. That's Paul Tourette and Michael
- 44:53Keller are still facing charges as of today.
- 44:57So this lady, it's the meeting was put on by
- 45:03essentially a private organization, but in a
- 45:05public place. And the private organization paid
- 45:09a fee to the school district in order to utilize
- 45:14the space. So it was the Kootenai County Precinct
- 45:19Committee. So they had power over the space.
- 45:23It was a public space, but effectively a private
- 45:27event that was open to the public. So they're
- 45:31painting it as if it was a public meeting in
- 45:34a public space. And that's how the left and the
- 45:38NIR Republican, the North Idaho Republicans and
- 45:40all of those loons are positing the whole thing.
- 45:43And so of course they make it a First Amendment.
- 45:46Issue as well and they don't obviously they don't
- 45:48care at all about the first amendment They have
- 45:50total contempt for the first amendment like we've
- 45:52been saying so anytime you say that you know
- 45:54that you know that they're just using it as a
- 45:56Weapon as like any time they tell you to think
- 45:59of the children and you know You got to grab
- 46:00your wallet because really it just means more
- 46:02money But the same people who stand on a mountain
- 46:04of aborted children are the ones who will lecture
- 46:06me about taking care of kids Yeah. It's interesting
- 46:20that the owners of the company are still under
- 46:22the gun. So I find that fascinating. I'm glad
- 46:25to hear that three of the guys are now no longer
- 46:29facing the charges. Again, that's a step in the
- 46:32right direction. There should have never been
- 46:33charges in the first place. We should also, and
- 46:36here's where conservatives tend to continue to
- 46:39fail. At what point as a conservative, do you
- 46:43put two and two together and go Even in Kootenai
- 46:46County, the people who are in charge of everything,
- 46:51the city councils and the legal system itself
- 46:56are against us because the prosecuting, the Kootenai
- 47:01County prosecuting, what the hell they call that
- 47:04guy, the main prosecuting attorney. Yeah, the
- 47:06city attorney name of the top guy. Yeah, the
- 47:09city, the county attorney, the city attorney
- 47:10is like. They're the guys who call the shots
- 47:12on what gets prosecuted. And then they filter
- 47:14that down to their little lackeys who all too
- 47:17happily will then prosecute whatever they're
- 47:19told to prosecute. It's a systemic issue. The
- 47:22fact that this is being prosecuted and it's obviously
- 47:26a political prosecution. At what point do you
- 47:29as a conservative go, yeah, like these institutions
- 47:33that I think are on my side or are here to protect
- 47:36me don't do that at all. In fact, they do the
- 47:39opposite. Like how many more times? You have
- 47:41to see it to understand it. And even in Kootenay
- 47:44County. And that's where conservatives are just
- 47:45completely off them. They're just off their rockers.
- 47:48They don't get it. You know, I am happy to see
- 47:50that three of the guys are now out from under
- 47:52the gun. But there's two dudes, business owners
- 47:55who are facing a hell of an uphill battle. And
- 47:57it's very stressful to go through that. It's
- 47:59a horrible experience. The state has infinity
- 48:01dollars. They can come after you for as long
- 48:03as they want, as hard as they want. They can
- 48:05reach for the moon. And if they fail, well, they
- 48:08just move on to the next one. But if they win,
- 48:11it ruins your life. Meanwhile, as the citizen,
- 48:16you have to you have to nut up a ton of money
- 48:18to defend yourself. Time is money. The longer
- 48:20it goes, the more expensive it is. The stakes
- 48:22are crazy high. Your freedom is on the line.
- 48:24Oftentimes a lot of your, you know, your livelihood
- 48:27is on the line. Your savings are on the line.
- 48:30The power structure, the power dynamic is so
- 48:33tilted towards the state. and people who've never
- 48:36been through it will look at that and go, oh
- 48:37yeah, but you still have rights and it's still
- 48:39a, you know, it's a justice system. No, not even
- 48:41close. It's a clown court, man. You can develop
- 48:44ulcers. You can develop marital problems. You
- 48:47can develop all sorts of second order effects
- 48:50that come from dealing with something like that.
- 48:52And much like, you know, the micro version of
- 48:54it where, you know, you get a... a BS moving
- 48:57violation ticket and you fight it and you take
- 49:01the day off of work on the Tuesday to go down
- 49:03to the courtroom. And then the issuing ossifer
- 49:07doesn't actually show up. And then so the ticket
- 49:09gets dismissed. There's no like restitution.
- 49:12There's no anything. It's just like, OK, yeah,
- 49:14you don't have to pay next. One hundred percent.
- 49:18If you have a full time job and you can't, you
- 49:22know, it's hard to get time off. It's a problem
- 49:24already. Because the court system, the legal
- 49:27system operates within bankers hours, normal
- 49:29bankers hours. So if you have a job that operates
- 49:31inside any of those hours, but you have to show
- 49:33up. If you don't show up for court, then you
- 49:36get a bench warrant for your arrest for failure
- 49:38to appear or things like that. You just don't
- 49:40have a choice. The board is tilted. It's their
- 49:43game. Let's see if this, the other, I had one
- 49:47other clip from this incident. I just want to
- 49:49see if it had any other information that we missed.
- 49:52That the other that the other clip didn't it
- 49:54also has the advantage of having Teresa Kami
- 49:57pole yelling in the background the Nat pops of
- 50:00her screaming is always continuing coverage this
- 50:02morning Charges against security personnel involved
- 50:05in a confrontation at Kootenai County's Town
- 50:08Hall are now dropped The four personnel had been
- 50:12charged with battery. Okay. Well, that's baloney.
- 50:14It wasn't Kootenai County's Town Hall, right?
- 50:16Isn't isn't It wasn't in a private organization's
- 50:18town hall like you were saying it's it was the
- 50:20kcrcc's event Yeah, it was it was the kootenai
- 50:22county republican precinct committees event So
- 50:25you got ron burgundy telling everyone that it
- 50:27was the county that put the event on so that's
- 50:28not at kootenai county's town hall are now dropped
- 50:32The four personnel had been charged with battery
- 50:35and false imprisonment after forcibly removing
- 50:37a shouting woman from a town hall They claimed
- 50:40they were acting under the protection of direction
- 50:43rather Did you hear that that is a? textbook
- 50:48example of the of the truth wanting to come out.
- 50:51It happens all the time with the teleprompter
- 50:53readers, and they just can't help themselves.
- 50:55And then you can hear like he he's like, oh,
- 50:58and false. And they claim they were acting under
- 51:00the protection of direction rather well as Kootenai
- 51:03County Sheriff Bob Norris. They claim they were
- 51:07acting under the protection of they claimed wasn't
- 51:10it on video? Yeah, they claimed. Also, I like
- 51:14the part two where like oh they they forcibly
- 51:16removed a shouting woman like they put her in
- 51:18a trebuchet and just launched her out of there
- 51:20They asked her to leave like six times. Didn't
- 51:22they a lot? Yeah. Yeah, it was it was Exactly
- 51:26what you'd expect. I mean they tried they tried
- 51:28they tried and then finally they went all right
- 51:29Here's what we got to do because we're gonna
- 51:31drag you out of here and much much to your much
- 51:33to your delight Teresa Kami pole because this
- 51:36was the entire idea I mean, this is the exact
- 51:38yeah, unfortunately they played in it's a lose
- 51:41-lose situation for the Cooney County Republican
- 51:44precinct committee folks, because what do you
- 51:46do? Like you're trying to run a meeting. You
- 51:47want it to be productive. She's disrupting it.
- 51:50She won't leave. So if you let her end the meeting
- 51:54there, then she wins. And apparently removing
- 51:57her, she wins, at least in the eyes of folks
- 52:01who are too lazy to get their facts right or
- 52:04who lean that way anyways. And so, of course,
- 52:06you know, their narrative is the truth. It's
- 52:09the way they behave. It's brilliant on the part
- 52:11of of these folks in town, these leftists, they
- 52:14craft the narrative, they frame it their way,
- 52:17and then they do these things and make themselves
- 52:20out to be the victims and everybody else out
- 52:22to be the bad guys. It's cunning. You got to
- 52:23give them credit, you know. And you'll notice
- 52:25that the gal, Theresa Borenpole, she's not being
- 52:28prosecuted for assaulting the security guards.
- 52:32She spit at him. She bit him. She refused to
- 52:35leave a place after being told she needs to leave.
- 52:39And the Coeur d 'Alene Police Department has
- 52:42made it clear that they will not trespass disruptors
- 52:46or protesters at these meetings so again if you
- 52:51conservatives if you think the cops are on your
- 52:53side what are you doing i'm gonna just press
- 52:57it i know it loses i know it loses people up
- 52:59here because it's just such an untouchable topic
- 53:01but if we're going to be clear thinking folks
- 53:03it has to be addressed especially up here where
- 53:06the back the blue momentum is huge Incidentally,
- 53:11Sheriff Norris, we mentioned this last podcast
- 53:12too, or two podcasts ago, but Sheriff Norris
- 53:16pardoned isn't the proper term, but basically
- 53:18was cleared of any wrongdoing by Raul Labrador's
- 53:20office. Raul Labrador, who's the attorney general
- 53:22of Idaho, and this was a few weeks ago, investigated
- 53:25the situation and found no wrongdoing on the
- 53:28part of Sheriff Norris. So of course, the government
- 53:31employee was the first one to get let off the
- 53:34hook. then the employees of the private corporation
- 53:37were let off the hook. Now it's the owners of
- 53:39the private company that are being raked over
- 53:40the coals. Public enemy number one, private small
- 53:43business owners. Yeah. Right. There you go. By
- 53:47the way, here's a speaking of a state attorney
- 53:49general, a quick correction from the last show
- 53:52when we you had mentioned the Idaho the state
- 53:56Supreme Court taking a look at the story about
- 53:59the Supreme Court taking a look at HB 500, the
- 54:02quote, transgender athletic ban bill, I wanted
- 54:05to clarify that it's not the Idaho State Supreme
- 54:08Court that's going to be looking at it. It's
- 54:10SCOTUS. No. Oh, OK. I was unaware of that. I
- 54:13knew I thought it was Idaho. And I'll admit,
- 54:16that's my fault. I just figured it was a given.
- 54:18We knew that it was being challenged. That's
- 54:22my fault. I just assumed it was being challenged
- 54:24at the state level. It is all the way up at the
- 54:27big old national stage and that's happening in
- 54:29January. Making waves. Well, doesn't that just
- 54:32fit that Idaho makes headlines for what the media
- 54:36will refer to as a trans ban bill? So in the
- 54:42national media headlines, oh my gosh, you know
- 54:46they're going to have a field day with it because
- 54:48it's blood red Idaho bringing up a trans ban
- 54:52bill. They're gonna run with that one. You know,
- 54:54they are speaking of running That's what you
- 54:57have to do if you're late for school and there's
- 54:59no bus We got our first taste of winter this
- 55:02weekend parents in Spirit Lake growing more concerned
- 55:05as their kids are now facing the harsh reality
- 55:08of getting to school without a bus the Lakeland
- 55:10School District cut several bus routes after
- 55:12a levy failed and families were given just two
- 55:14weeks notice before the school year began Alexandra
- 55:17Coney art shows us the impact these cuts are
- 55:19having now as temperatures continue to drop Snow
- 55:23covered sidewalks, poorly lit streets. That's
- 55:26the new route some kids in Spirit Lake are walking
- 55:28to school. It's manageable for those who live
- 55:31near schools, but far more difficult for those
- 55:34in the outskirts. It just seems a little bit.
- 55:38unrealistic to expect kids to walk two miles
- 55:40each way every day to go to school, especially
- 55:43in the winter. Marin Meyer has two sixth grade
- 55:45sons and a 16 year old daughter. We usually had
- 55:48the bus come by right here at the street corner
- 55:50across from my house. That changed when the Lakeland
- 55:53School District cut eight bus routes. When it
- 55:55was nice out, the boys and Sadie like they rode
- 55:58their bikes, you know, to school and back and
- 56:00it was no big deal. But we were all really kind
- 56:02of nervous to see what was going to happen when
- 56:03the snow started falling. There are still some
- 56:05buses running for kids who live more than one
- 56:08and a half to two miles away from school. However,
- 56:11parents tell me that walk often ends up feeling
- 56:14long and is especially concerning in these conditions.
- 56:18I can't wait for all of the like the grandparents
- 56:22of these kids already have these stories lined
- 56:24up walking both ways uphill. Right. Yeah. In
- 56:28knee deep snow. I mean, like back in my day.
- 56:30Yeah. I didn't even have buses. I would have
- 56:34had a bus if we had only just given up a little
- 56:37bit more of our money. By the way, do you know
- 56:39what the Lakeland School District Superintendent
- 56:42makes its public information? I bet you it's
- 56:46six figures. $160 ,000. More specifically, I
- 56:50bet how much? $160 ,000. I was going to guess
- 56:56specifically $120 ,000. Wow, I was off by another
- 56:59$40 ,000. Yeah. So I wonder how many... How many
- 57:03bus routes could come back if school administrators
- 57:08would chip in? There's stats all over the place
- 57:13about how for state run state run indoctrination
- 57:16camps, as they really should be called, because
- 57:18that's what they are. Enrollment over the last
- 57:21two, three decades, enrollments up eight percent,
- 57:24nine percent, you know, growing population still.
- 57:27The addition of teachers is up like 17 percent.
- 57:32But the growth of administrative positions and
- 57:36just straight -up admin is like 70 ish percent
- 57:40across all school districts. It's huge the bulk
- 57:44of funding now for indoctrination camps goes
- 57:49towards administrative roles and administration
- 57:52So every time these people complain about not
- 57:56having money for enough money for teachers and
- 57:58not having enough money for schools or books
- 58:00First off, there's hundreds of millions of dollars.
- 58:02There's so much money out there for schools.
- 58:05I mean, oh my gosh, that's a whole nother podcast
- 58:08we could do on how that stuff works. But if they
- 58:11really cared, then administrators would chip
- 58:14in, take a pay cut. How many buses would that
- 58:18help us afford? I know how this sounds to people
- 58:21who don't think along these lines. I can hear
- 58:26the responses, you know, like, well, what are
- 58:28you guys saying? Like, you know, you need money
- 58:31to attract talent. Teachers and administrators
- 58:34are necessary to run schools. I thought it was
- 58:37all about the kids. You can't. No, no, no, please.
- 58:40No. That's that's just what you use when you
- 58:41need a country. Won't somebody please think of
- 58:44the children. I do love that, though. It's all
- 58:46about the kids, but also like pay me six figures.
- 58:50Well, and so like, yeah. Well, so what are you
- 58:52guys saying? Like they're supposed to the superintendent
- 58:55is supposed to voluntarily take a pay cut so
- 58:57that the bus routes won't get cut. No, no, I
- 59:00don't need. Now I'll just speak for myself. I
- 59:03think this is kind of what we are saying. And
- 59:05you can tell me if you want to put a finer point
- 59:06on it. What we're saying is that. There is no
- 59:11amount of money that could be levied or increased
- 59:14via property taxes or otherwise raised from the
- 59:18citizenry that would solve these problems. No
- 59:23matter what amount was being taken and funneled
- 59:26toward, quote, schools, there would still be
- 59:29chronic under this and not enough of that and
- 59:33administrators making this and they need their
- 59:35five percent rate all of these issues would remain
- 59:37in place you would just be doing so at a different
- 59:39threshold the superintendent would be making
- 59:42215k a year and you would need to give teachers
- 59:45seven percent raises and we would need the arts
- 59:47program in the music program well no if you want
- 59:49that then you need to give us this all of that
- 59:51would remain it would just remain at a higher
- 59:54noise floor that's what we're saying it's never
- 1:00:00enough It's never enough point to a number that
- 1:00:03is enough. It will never ever stop. It will never
- 1:00:06be enough. The moment they have more money, it's
- 1:00:10spent on something else. Usually administration,
- 1:00:14not books, just more administration. There's
- 1:00:17no incentive to do otherwise. That's the thing.
- 1:00:20That's that is the nature of state departments
- 1:00:22and state programs and government. Anything that
- 1:00:24is the nature of it. Take all the money you can
- 1:00:26spend all of it and then ask for more. Despite
- 1:00:31that being true, You know what people really
- 1:00:57get worked up about gas prices are continuing
- 1:00:59to fall around the nation including here in the
- 1:01:02Inland Northwest According to gas buddy lower
- 1:01:04prices are expected to last into the new year
- 1:01:06in Spokane prices are down 5 .4 cents over the
- 1:01:09last week averaging 370 a gallon Coeur d 'Alene
- 1:01:13seeing an even bigger drop triple -a puts the
- 1:01:15average there at 299 a gallon down 10 cents from
- 1:01:18last week the national average is down 5 cents
- 1:01:20compared to last week to sitting at around $2
- 1:01:2390 cents a gallon that's what people really get
- 1:01:28animated about. Gas prices. Even though if you
- 1:01:31calculate the difference in your annual gas costs,
- 1:01:35even if you're commuting a lot and you have what
- 1:01:39seems like a large, it's $2 .95 a gallon versus
- 1:01:43California, it's $4 .28 a gallon, like these
- 1:01:46amounts that seem massive or, I mean, when it
- 1:01:49comes to gas prices, the difference on the marquee
- 1:01:52from the highway, you look at it, the difference
- 1:01:55between 349 a gallon and 309 a gallon, people
- 1:01:58would drive halfway across creation to go to
- 1:02:01that other gas station where it was 309 a gallon.
- 1:02:04But if you actually look at it at the end of
- 1:02:05the year, you saved about 185 bucks. If that
- 1:02:10I mean, if you have a 15 gallon tank, and you're
- 1:02:14saving even half a dollar per gallon, that's
- 1:02:19$7 .50. What's more important, though, Truly.
- 1:02:24And the thing that nobody talks about when it
- 1:02:25comes to gas is the gas taxes. Everybody likes
- 1:02:29to pick on the owners of gas stations and the
- 1:02:33oil companies for scalping everybody. But ironically
- 1:02:36enough, as a percentage, your local and state
- 1:02:40and federal governments actually make a significantly
- 1:02:43higher margin and profit on a gallon of gas than
- 1:02:46the companies who actually do the work to bring
- 1:02:48it up out of the ground, refine it and bring
- 1:02:50it to you. It's wild. But lower gas prices are
- 1:02:55nice and we should celebrate the beautiful little
- 1:02:58things look like it's a Christmas miracle. I've
- 1:03:02a couple more for this week on no ID. Let's hear
- 1:03:08this nice sort of semi threatening public service
- 1:03:12announcement from Shoshone Thompson and Moon
- 1:03:14Mountain passes in Chacon Shoshone County are
- 1:03:17officially closed for the season. Both passes
- 1:03:20will not reopen until late April or early May.
- 1:03:23The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office says they
- 1:03:25have had issues in the past with people who think
- 1:03:28they can beat the hazardous weather conditions.
- 1:03:31Our news partners, the Shoshone News Press, say
- 1:03:33SCSO will combat this by making people pay the
- 1:03:36cost of any rescue operations. They have to threaten
- 1:03:41you a little bit there at the end. Don't you
- 1:03:42try it. You're going to pay. Don't you do it.
- 1:03:48And you know that is that is directly. correlated
- 1:03:51to what has, what just happened. It just showed
- 1:03:54like last month or two months ago where, you
- 1:03:56know, all of the hullabaloo about search and
- 1:03:58rescue, not being managed properly for the, for
- 1:04:00the hunter. They got himself killed up there.
- 1:04:03They're just like, let's just, let's just get
- 1:04:04out in front of this one right now. I mean, the
- 1:04:08Shoshone County Sheriff is like, no, I, you know,
- 1:04:10I don't want to get fired too. Let's just get
- 1:04:12out in front of this issue right now. Public
- 1:04:14service announcement. Here we go. Meanwhile,
- 1:04:18the guy who just got ousted is like, damn it,
- 1:04:20why did I think of that? Here's another fun one,
- 1:04:24because, you know, we're now in the we're now
- 1:04:26getting into the dog. You know, are there dog
- 1:04:29days of winter? And, you know, they talk about
- 1:04:31the dog days of summer. What are those called
- 1:04:32in the winter? Hmm. I'll get back to you on that.
- 1:04:37OK. This past week we got the first taste of
- 1:04:40winter weather. For many drivers the first time
- 1:04:42in a while they had to navigate some snowy roads.
- 1:04:45A class in North Idaho helping people become
- 1:04:47reacquainted with winter driving. When it comes
- 1:04:50to driving in the snow there's a lot to learn
- 1:04:53and there are a lot who want to learn it. An
- 1:04:56influx of people moving into the northwest as
- 1:04:58everybody knows. People that haven't been driving
- 1:05:01in the snow very, very much or at all. And then
- 1:05:04we also have the newer drivers, the people that
- 1:05:06are just getting their driver's license. That's
- 1:05:08why we do these classes. The classes are hosted
- 1:05:10by Idaho State Police and the Idaho Transportation
- 1:05:13Department. Their first tip might seem obvious,
- 1:05:16but it's one that's stuck with the students.
- 1:05:19Slow down, back up, take your time. Just like
- 1:05:23shady corners or icy and, you know, just slow
- 1:05:27down. ISP says driving too fast for the conditions,
- 1:05:31as well as following too close, are the top causes
- 1:05:33for accidents. Following the people in front
- 1:05:36of them, the summertime is a three second rule.
- 1:05:38We're going to bump that up to probably nine,
- 1:05:4010 seconds in the wintertime. We live up kind
- 1:05:44of in the mountains, so our roads don't get plowed
- 1:05:48very much. The mountains. Did you catch it? I
- 1:05:50did catch it. The mountains. Mountains. It's
- 1:05:55the same word as the last kid. What is that?
- 1:05:58What is the mystique about the word mountains
- 1:06:05that they can't use? They got to omit the T?
- 1:06:08We live up kind of in the mountains, so our roads
- 1:06:12don't get plowed very much. My parents wanted
- 1:06:16me to get the education about winter driving
- 1:06:20that I... Now you notice she says winter drive
- 1:06:23about winter driving it. She didn't say winter.
- 1:06:26How come she finds the T for winter? Kind of
- 1:06:29in the mountains. Everybody got against mountains.
- 1:06:33You gotta admire the consistency about winter
- 1:06:35driving that I need. The two hour class covered
- 1:06:38things from tire tread to not crowding snowplows
- 1:06:42to proper hand placement on the steering wheel.
- 1:06:44I've been driving for over 40 years, but one
- 1:06:47thing I took away was the nine and three. When
- 1:06:49I took drivers out, it was 10 and two. But the
- 1:06:52best piece of advi attention to what's going
- 1:06:56of the mistakes that I see would be distracted
- 1:07:00drivin looking at their cell pho music in North
- 1:07:04Idaho and M for News Now. Some of the m people
- 1:07:10are making is just the road in the first pla
- 1:07:17piece of health advice if you absolutely cannot
- 1:07:20stay home. So Brooks recommends wearing a mask,
- 1:07:23wearing a mask, wearing a mask. So definitely
- 1:07:27if you have to drive in your car by yourself.
- 1:07:31Now, I still once in a blue moon, I will still
- 1:07:33see that in the dog days of the mass psychosis
- 1:07:37event. I saw it all the time. Studies have shown
- 1:07:41that if you wear a mask alone in your car during
- 1:07:45winter, you get up to 45 % better traction in
- 1:07:49the snow. If you have a powered by Dee's nuts
- 1:07:54sticker on the rear window of your Acura, you
- 1:07:57gain 40 horsepower. You get like 60 % less, less
- 1:08:01traction, but more horsepower. Yeah, that makes
- 1:08:03sense. Let's leave you guys with this for this
- 1:08:06week. I'm sure you'll be devastated to know that
- 1:08:10Idaho got a report card from a activist organization
- 1:08:15in the People's Republic of California, and you'll
- 1:08:17never guess what they graded us. The nonprofit,
- 1:08:20the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence,
- 1:08:22has given the state of Idaho an F for what the
- 1:08:26California -based NGO says is Idaho's lack of
- 1:08:29strong gun control laws. It's the center's annual
- 1:08:32scorecard grading and ranking each state on the
- 1:08:35strength of gun laws. Idaho is not alone. There
- 1:08:39are nearly two dozen states that received an
- 1:08:41upgrade in the annual scorecard. The center says
- 1:08:45Idaho is some of the weakest gun laws in the
- 1:08:47nation. Yeah, go Idaho. We put the F in firearms.
- 1:09:03We just wanted you to know that you got an F.
- 1:09:06We feel bad for you. Oh, yeah. Well, we're Utah's
- 1:09:10top hat and we don't think about you at all.
- 1:09:13All right. Think about the hubris you have to
- 1:09:17have as a state to give another state a report
- 1:09:20card on anything. But at least of all, something
- 1:09:24that doesn't even impact you. Good job, California.
- 1:09:27Way to be self -important. Thank you, California.
- 1:09:32You're doing a yeoman's job lecturing the nation.
- 1:09:36Yeah. If only they put as much effort into, I
- 1:09:39don't know, sound economics or anything that
- 1:09:41didn't suck. You know, the best way to bring
- 1:09:46down home prices up here in North Idaho and to
- 1:09:50otherwise, you know, less traffic, all of the
- 1:09:53sort of problems with growth, is to make California
- 1:09:56livable again. One can only hope. But until that
- 1:10:01day, we'll have to keep giving classes on how
- 1:10:03to drive in the snow. Yeah, but keep your hands...
- 1:10:07It's left hand at 12 and right hand holding a
- 1:10:10breakfast burrito. and make sure that if you're
- 1:10:13or beer if or beer and make sure that if you're
- 1:10:16in the left lane if somebody comes up behind
- 1:10:19you they have it's the autobahn i mean you you
- 1:10:20let them pass i don't care if you're doing 100
- 1:10:22if someone comes up behind you for safety you
- 1:10:25must let them pass if they want to pass i think
- 1:10:28that's pretty much how i would if you're in the
- 1:10:29left lane you better be driving with a british
- 1:10:32accent that's all i know My wife is standing
- 1:10:34here giving me the she's using her index finger
- 1:10:37and pointing at a wrist so I think that means
- 1:10:40we're done tonight Firm but fair Thank you everyone
