- 0:39Speaker 1: I'm want to pull a Fred. I don't care for it.
- 0:41Speaker 2: It's like a Fred McMurray.
- 0:42Speaker 4: You wear what you want to wear. Fred, don't listen
- 0:44Speaker 4: to them.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I'm gonna just do me again.
- 0:46Speaker 1: So what was up with the hard landing? Though?

- 0:51Speaker 4: it was trained by top Gun.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Well, I don't know. We're also doing mock to to
- 0:54Speaker 2: Buffalo on the way home.
- 0:55Speaker 1: It's a barrel roll.
- 0:56Speaker 4: The one thing about all of this that's gonna piss
- 0:58Speaker 4: me off the most.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Okay, well, no, no, no, I'm not done.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Not done. Hey, Hey, Hey, the game was.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Remarkable, not in an outstanding sense, but just it's worth
- 1:10Speaker 2: making remarks about.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't what did.
- 1:13Speaker 2: He call ourselves the best game day sideline coach in
- 1:17Speaker 2: the history of the modern NFL? Remember that?
- 1:21Speaker 4: What this is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:23Speaker 5: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals by a Toyota
- 1:27Speaker 5: dot Com.
- 1:30Speaker 2: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 1:34Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium. You gotta you gotta kick out of
- 1:36Speaker 2: that hot fall.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yeah, in retrospect and listening to it back, you did
- 1:40Speaker 1: say it right the first time. I just must have
- 1:42Speaker 1: been maybe scrolling to my phone or something. I missed
- 1:44Speaker 1: some pronouns like the he's in the left. But yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 1: you said it clearly the first time. I just missed it.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Well, I might have added a few things there, but
- 1:52Speaker 2: I remember that vividly.
- 1:54Speaker 1: What was it again, The greatest sideline coach in the
- 1:57Speaker 1: modern era, in the history of the modern I believe
- 2:01Speaker 1: something like that. Yeah, I could just say modern era
- 2:03Speaker 1: without the history part.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Well, you also can just say coach, you know, like
- 2:07Speaker 4: it was sideline modern.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Like, oh, so it was it.
- 2:10Speaker 6: I thought it was specifically like sideline when he's on
- 2:13Speaker 6: the sideline, that's when he's at his best.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Yeah, there was a lot of a lot of qualifiers
- 2:17Speaker 1: the game. If you recall, like going down the stretch
- 2:21Speaker 1: of that ninety six season, I think there was a
- 2:23Speaker 1: little bit of Robert sort of reaching out, trying to like.
- 2:27Speaker 4: Say, you know, we can we can work through this,
- 2:29Speaker 4: you can stay.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I think it was like a plea
- 2:32Speaker 1: to get him to stay, kind of like me at
- 2:34Speaker 1: the Giants game in the finale that year with alfrom Everett,
- 2:38Speaker 1: the famous al from Everett screaming at him, Tuna, don't leave.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Alf from effortt is like on his knees trying to
- 2:45Speaker 1: get Bill Parcells to not not leave the Patriots and
- 2:48Speaker 1: he left. Is that hanging over the team the whole year?
- 2:51Speaker 1: Was that just down the stretch?
- 2:54Speaker 6: And was there something specific that kind of reignited it?
- 2:57Speaker 2: Just rumors started. Yeah, there was.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Something contractual, like he asked for like a year to
- 3:05Speaker 1: be taken off his contract or something like that, and
- 3:08Speaker 1: there was some some kind of a clause in there
- 3:10Speaker 1: that was altered. And yeah, well it was late in
- 3:13Speaker 1: the year.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's history now, so I can probably
- 3:16Speaker 2: say it.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Oh, well, probably not.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I remember during the whole controversy. This is when we
- 3:22Speaker 2: all worked in Boston because there was no room at
- 3:25Speaker 2: the old stadium, and the Crafts had a floor at
- 3:27Speaker 2: one Boston Place, and uh, you know I would see
- 3:31Speaker 2: Robert a lot because you know, you're on the same floor.
- 3:34Speaker 2: And he pulled out from his desk drawer the contract.
- 3:39Speaker 2: But it was one page of the contract with a
- 3:41Speaker 2: paragraph blown up and circled, and it was that paragraph
- 3:45Speaker 2: that gave him ironclad rights to parcels no matter what happened, right,
- 3:51Speaker 2: And that's how they were able to get the compensation
- 3:55Speaker 2: from the jets. But he showed me that. I was like, okay,
- 3:58Speaker 2: you thought ahead.
- 3:59Speaker 6: Let's see that's what was gonna say. That's smart small,
- 4:02Speaker 6: I mean, he's a billionaire, he's a smart businessman.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:06Speaker 2: So that was that, and here we are, all right,
- 4:11Speaker 2: so it's deuced. It's Paul, it's me Evan will be by.
- 4:14Speaker 1: He's out of practice. Practice now practical, change the schedule,
- 4:18Speaker 1: early practice.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Now what do you make of that? Fred? The change
- 4:20Speaker 4: of the schedule.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Guys are banged up. It's a shorter practice. No, it's
- 4:25Speaker 1: a shorter practice like last week because guys are But
- 4:29Speaker 1: what do you think of the altering of the schedule,
- 4:30Speaker 1: the timing. I don't ask why.
- 4:33Speaker 6: I just love it because it's a two o'clock locker
- 4:34Speaker 6: room and that's the answer.
- 4:36Speaker 4: That's the answer.
- 4:37Speaker 6: Good, don't ask why, But I don't know. I mean,
- 4:40Speaker 6: they're they're probably just kind of him walked through everything.
- 4:42Speaker 1: There's not going so everybody got it?
- 4:46Speaker 7: Yeah, just like are we giving up on the team
- 4:51Speaker 7: if this is the last game?
- 4:52Speaker 1: Like if this is Bill's last game? Right, Like do
- 4:55Speaker 1: you think did in the back of his mind, he's
- 4:56Speaker 1: like like the wing tea or something I said yesterday
- 5:01Speaker 1: come out with the I must have had like a
- 5:03Speaker 1: just here that I don't know.
- 5:06Speaker 2: You don't listen to me anymore.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I don't and I'm really upset me flower.
- 5:10Speaker 4: I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 5:13Speaker 1: That's that's just putting the flowers. That goes back to
- 5:16Speaker 1: that song. Correct, I got it?
- 5:17Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, so bring me you know why. It
- 5:22Speaker 2: could be a million reasons why.
- 5:24Speaker 1: But I think tomorrow on the schedule is supposed to
- 5:26Speaker 1: be back normal. So yeah, just did you get that
- 5:28Speaker 1: split the split squad locker room again tomorrow?
- 5:31Speaker 6: Thank yeah, thank god. That's that's not that's not a
- 5:34Speaker 6: fun thing.
- 5:34Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, but have we got any updates on
- 5:37Speaker 2: the weather?
- 5:38Speaker 1: Yeah, a little bit.
- 5:39Speaker 6: You know, there's two kind of competing models that I
- 5:42Speaker 6: looked at.
- 5:42Speaker 2: The European model and the model.
- 5:44Speaker 7: You're right, I don't know what the other one was.
- 5:46Speaker 7: There a couple of words Patriots back media, I think
- 5:49Speaker 7: is reporting.
- 5:50Speaker 6: I believe the European model was three just six inches.
- 5:54Speaker 6: The other model, though, was a little bit higher. That
- 5:56Speaker 6: was like six to ten maybe.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And what are we hearing?
- 5:58Speaker 4: It's supposed to start start at mid midnight, midnight, so
- 6:02Speaker 4: it's tough to get here.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Is it tough to get here? Probably tough to get out?
- 6:05Speaker 6: I know it's if it was anything but the last game,
- 6:08Speaker 6: I would be like dreading it. I mean, I'm sure
- 6:10Speaker 6: people are dreading it, but I don't know. I live close,
- 6:12Speaker 6: so that's an advantage. But it's just I want to
- 6:14Speaker 6: see what the atmosphere is going to be like. I've
- 6:16Speaker 6: never been to a Patriots snow game in my life,
- 6:18Speaker 6: So in the warmth of the press box, just looking
- 6:23Speaker 6: down on the poor pleaves down there, like having a.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Stro you'll get to look down on the Jets the
- 6:27Speaker 1: way that Andy and I looked down at the Arizona Cardinals,
- 6:30Speaker 1: oh boy, and said, they're going to get blown out. Oh,
- 6:33Speaker 1: I know, they're gonna get the just they don't want
- 6:35Speaker 1: to be here, even though the Jets play in a
- 6:38Speaker 1: you know, obviously a similar climate.
- 6:39Speaker 4: But they are.
- 6:40Speaker 1: They're done. And I mean imagine having to go on
- 6:42Speaker 1: the road and that, I mean, your bus is double parked.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Did they ever do stuff for the weather like this?
- 6:47Speaker 6: I mean, it's are there any precautionary measures employed? I
- 6:50Speaker 6: mean there was obviously the nine game was I mean,
- 6:52Speaker 6: but that was that was just that wasn't like plowable snow,
- 6:56Speaker 6: was it that?
- 6:56Speaker 1: You mean, if you've got like a like a major
- 6:58Speaker 1: blues where you got like one of Yeah, I mean
- 7:01Speaker 1: the NFL.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Has moved games around in recent years.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Well as of yesterday, down on the Cape when it's
- 7:07Speaker 2: usually a little warmer, it was chance of rain on Sunday.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Now they've changed it to a chance of snow. So
- 7:14Speaker 2: that tells you something, right there.
- 7:15Speaker 6: Everything I saw it seems like snow snow is happening.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Than everybody else in the area.
- 7:21Speaker 6: I know, well it's I mean, it's a wide range,
- 7:23Speaker 6: so I'm sure I can't wait. People are gonna ask
- 7:26Speaker 6: Bill about it on Friday, and I'll be like, I
- 7:27Speaker 6: don't know, you know, he always like plays like sometimes
- 7:30Speaker 6: they say it's every foot there's nothing, you know.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I just have to leave the house
- 7:33Speaker 2: at four in the morning, you know, probably effect get
- 7:36Speaker 2: your snowshoes, get your snow skis, your.
- 7:38Speaker 6: Cross country skis in the back of your car in
- 7:39Speaker 6: case you get stuck.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I mean. The good thing is it is a Sunday,
- 7:42Speaker 2: so the roads won't be as you know, crowded. Yeah,
- 7:47Speaker 2: tell my wife, I'll shovel when I get home. Stay
- 7:50Speaker 2: in the house.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Did you ever sit in a snow game? Pauls as
- 7:52Speaker 1: a Patriots fan?
- 7:54Speaker 6: No, No, some rain and cold, but never snow.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:59Speaker 4: I got pretty lucky.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I didn't really even have I had some windy games,
- 8:03Speaker 1: but I didn't have like a lot of rain or.
- 8:07Speaker 4: Or snow.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Mud mud, a lot of mud.
- 8:10Speaker 1: The old stadium, right, it's like surrounded by mud.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, so jets, I mean a question, jets
- 8:19Speaker 2: really anything?
- 8:20Speaker 1: You know, Bill didn't really, you know, didn't really provide
- 8:24Speaker 1: anything today. Quinnin Williams is good. Garrett Wilson is good.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Reesall is good. That's about it. Those guys were highlighted. Yeah,
- 8:32Speaker 1: and I mean they have some talent, and I do
- 8:34Speaker 1: think for the most part, they've they've they've competed, but
- 8:38Speaker 1: they just turned the ball over too much. And they
- 8:41Speaker 1: lead the league, right, Yeah, thirty two I think giveaways
- 8:46Speaker 1: and it's really hard, like you know, just think about
- 8:49Speaker 1: what the Patriots defense went through on Sunday.
- 8:52Speaker 4: That has been the norm for the Jets.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know there's still I mean, their defense
- 8:58Speaker 1: is still pretty good, but it's just to keep teams
- 9:00Speaker 1: down when you're constantly giving them short fields and in
- 9:05Speaker 1: extra possessions.
- 9:06Speaker 6: Yeah, it was you know, I do I do my
- 9:08Speaker 6: next get stats, which I just I think statistically, the
- 9:12Speaker 6: Jets defense shapes up a lot more just on paper,
- 9:14Speaker 6: like you want a good defense to shape up. You know,
- 9:17Speaker 6: it's their fifth and pressure rates, but they're but they're
- 9:22Speaker 6: thirty thirty first in blitz rates, so they don't blitz,
- 9:25Speaker 6: they get pressure.
- 9:26Speaker 3: You know.
- 9:26Speaker 6: Contrast that though with the Patriots were ninth and blitz
- 9:29Speaker 6: rate and twenty sixth in pressure. You know, so it's
- 9:32Speaker 6: just a little bit of a contrast between the two teams.
- 9:34Speaker 6: And you know, kind of their style. The Patriots, We've
- 9:37Speaker 6: given them a lot of credit, but I still, you know,
- 9:39Speaker 6: continue to say, I mean, eighteenth in pass EPA. They
- 9:42Speaker 6: this Jets defense probably better than this Patriots.
- 9:44Speaker 2: I wonder though, like if you look at the way
- 9:46Speaker 2: Barmore has been playing down the stretch, if he had
- 9:48Speaker 2: played that way throughout, Yeah, if that pressure rate would
- 9:52Speaker 2: go up because he's he's back there a lot.
- 9:55Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a good I mean, a good question of
- 9:56Speaker 6: how much they've they've risen. I mean, they haven't really
- 9:58Speaker 6: gone too crazy with with the blitzing, but it's I
- 10:02Speaker 6: don't know, I just I think that there's work to
- 10:04Speaker 6: be done on defensive side of the ball, as much
- 10:06Speaker 6: as that's going to get ignored and probably fall by
- 10:07Speaker 6: the wayside with a lot of our offseason discussion, and
- 10:10Speaker 6: rightly so, I mean, I think, I mean, and everyone
- 10:11Speaker 6: were saying, like, look like the first two picks of the.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Draft have to go to the offensive side of the
- 10:14Speaker 1: ball at least.
- 10:15Speaker 6: Right Like, it's just hard to bank a case for
- 10:17Speaker 6: any real position unless you want to talk to me
- 10:19Speaker 6: about a real good pass rusher.
- 10:21Speaker 1: But otherwise, and that's the only way I would have
- 10:25Speaker 1: anything before Day three, go on defense is if you
- 10:28Speaker 1: had a chance for a pass rusher that can impact
- 10:32Speaker 1: the game off the edge out, you know, and you're
- 10:33Speaker 1: obviously you're going to get You're going to get defensive
- 10:36Speaker 1: backs later in the draft. You always do.
- 10:39Speaker 4: So I agree with you, Mike. I think you have
- 10:42Speaker 4: to devote this draft off.
- 10:44Speaker 2: It seems among the Patriots wise guys that the play
- 10:48Speaker 2: is Harrison, trade back up and get Penix. Yeah, that's
- 10:53Speaker 2: the play.
- 10:53Speaker 1: So I have a question for that now, and I
- 10:55Speaker 1: don't necessarily mind the rationale, but what do you have
- 11:00Speaker 1: to trade up with after you take number three?
- 11:03Speaker 6: I mean, all the talk yesterday, that's a derail question.
- 11:06Speaker 6: Far up do you have to trade in there?
- 11:08Speaker 1: I mean, there's just depends on who.
- 11:09Speaker 4: You know. That's a great question.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I don't have the answer, but a lot of people
- 11:13Speaker 1: think that Pennix is rising up the board.
- 11:16Speaker 6: Yeah, we're just kind of seeing yesterday were speculation of
- 11:18Speaker 6: what Chicago might get if they were to trade it
- 11:21Speaker 6: they were to keep fields and you know, just talking
- 11:22Speaker 6: about Chicago kind of sitting in the driver's seat and
- 11:24Speaker 6: it was huge. I mean, it's you know, a couple
- 11:26Speaker 6: first rounders, like it's.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Oh, I saw a second or third round pick. Jeremy Fowler. Oh,
- 11:31Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 11:32Speaker 6: Maybe we read different things, but I don't know, it's
- 11:34Speaker 6: just the more wait wait.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Wait, I think you might be thinking talking about different things.
- 11:38Speaker 2: You're talking about if if somebody wanted to trade somebode
- 11:42Speaker 2: to the first round you're talking about for field right.
- 11:44Speaker 4: I think I had like I had an aneurysm. I
- 11:47Speaker 4: think I don't know.
- 11:48Speaker 1: That's exactly what he said, And somehow I was thought
- 11:50Speaker 1: you were talking about what it would take to get
- 11:51Speaker 1: fields right. That's totally my fault, totally my bad. I
- 11:55Speaker 1: don't I don't know what I'm doing.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Scary, like just a couple of there's a second and
- 11:57Speaker 6: third to get to the first over all pick tomorrow.
- 12:00Speaker 2: You just let him go.
- 12:01Speaker 1: No, I didn't know. He was like, we read different things, right,
- 12:04Speaker 1: but no, because we're because basically we're talking about two.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Totally, but it all depends like who is the team
- 12:09Speaker 2: trying to get to the first. If they're lower, they're
- 12:11Speaker 2: going to have to give up more. Yeah, it's like
- 12:14Speaker 2: us in the third slot, we wouldn't have to give
- 12:16Speaker 2: up as much.
- 12:17Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I know, it's it's I mean it's it's
- 12:19Speaker 6: great to be Chicago right now.
- 12:20Speaker 1: But I don't know. I just I continue that this is.
- 12:24Speaker 6: A really deep draft with receivers, and you know, to
- 12:27Speaker 6: put all your eggs in a basket of not only
- 12:30Speaker 6: taking Marvin Harrison, but making no strides to protect your
- 12:33Speaker 6: quarterback and then just assuming you're gonna get Michael Pennix,
- 12:35Speaker 6: who I mean, God, after that performance the other night
- 12:38Speaker 6: and whatever he does in this National Championship game, is
- 12:41Speaker 6: it hard to imagine that some team's going to trade
- 12:43Speaker 6: up and take him by the mid first round.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Like so it's well, that was my point. Like if
- 12:48Speaker 1: if it's like one of those deals where you have
- 12:50Speaker 1: like the third or fourth pick of the second round
- 12:53Speaker 1: and you want to get to like twenty nine, absolutely
- 12:56Speaker 1: you can do that.
- 12:57Speaker 4: But what if you need to get to fifteen to.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Get and did Canny Pickett go at? Like?
- 13:02Speaker 6: You know, I mean, Michael Pennox looks way better to
- 13:05Speaker 6: me than Kenny Pickett.
- 13:07Speaker 1: So I don't know, it's it's complicated.
- 13:09Speaker 6: I admittedly I've I've started looking at some of these
- 13:12Speaker 6: guys have looked I'm looking at the tackles, and you know,
- 13:14Speaker 6: I just I think that that remains something as much
- 13:16Speaker 6: as people are gonna be kicking and screaming about it,
- 13:18Speaker 6: it's something.
- 13:19Speaker 2: That I know, just you know, even to take one
- 13:21Speaker 2: another back, like it's not sexy, but we really need it.
- 13:25Speaker 6: No, I mean, and you know, I just going in
- 13:27Speaker 6: on ol Lufashanu for a second, Like just I didn't
- 13:30Speaker 6: really start with his film. I just started watching him
- 13:32Speaker 6: like interviews and you know what kind of guy he
- 13:34Speaker 6: is and learning about him, and like, you know, it's
- 13:36Speaker 6: you need a foundational player. You need a kind of
- 13:38Speaker 6: guy who you know, I don't want to say he's
- 13:40Speaker 6: Matthew Slater, but I mean super smart, super you know, intelligent,
- 13:44Speaker 6: kind of got everything together, went back to to try
- 13:47Speaker 6: to win. You know, there's a lot of things to
- 13:49Speaker 6: like about that guy. And as as much as people
- 13:52Speaker 6: would hate it, it's you know, it's just hard to
- 13:54Speaker 6: say we're going to draft a quarterback. We're not going
- 13:55Speaker 6: to do anything to protect him though, I mean, we
- 13:57Speaker 6: know what that formula kind of looks like. I just
- 14:00Speaker 6: I hesitate on Marvin Harrison.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Those those moves to me.
- 14:03Speaker 6: Seem like we just need like it'd be a great
- 14:05Speaker 6: move for Chicago, right, Like if they really believe in Fields, Right,
- 14:09Speaker 6: you got a guy he's close, you know, he's he's
- 14:11Speaker 6: played in these kind of environments like so that to
- 14:14Speaker 6: me makes sense.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I think it's setting up for them perfectly, like if,
- 14:18Speaker 1: because I think it's worth the risk, because I think
- 14:20Speaker 1: the the reward is huge if if Fields is actually
- 14:24Speaker 1: starting to get it, and you stick with him and
- 14:28Speaker 1: you draft Marvin Harrison and then your other pick is
- 14:30Speaker 1: going to be like ten or eleven and you get
- 14:32Speaker 1: a tackle, yeah boom. I mean if the Patriots were
- 14:36Speaker 1: in that position.
- 14:36Speaker 4: You know, or help your defense like some you know,
- 14:39Speaker 4: you get a high pick.
- 14:40Speaker 6: But I mean look at Houston last year, similar thing, right, Like,
- 14:43Speaker 6: I mean, get two high round picks, they.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Hit on both of them, and all of a sudden,
- 14:48Speaker 1: you're not that far away from at least being competitive
- 14:51Speaker 1: and they have been what are they six and five?
- 14:53Speaker 1: And they last eleven something like that.
- 14:55Speaker 4: Jesus, I don't know Chicago now, his record is a
- 15:00Speaker 4: is terrible. Do you guys hold the league at all?
- 15:02Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I just don't know their last eleven games.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Evan sit down football with somebody, please, I'm just watching
- 15:07Speaker 2: Evan try to adjust the seat. He's going lower.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Evan, please sit down and get on the mic. I
- 15:13Speaker 1: need somebody to talk about the NFL at large. What
- 15:16Speaker 1: are the what are the Bears in their last eleven Evan?
- 15:18Speaker 1: Do you got that?
- 15:19Speaker 2: Well?
- 15:20Speaker 1: My point is they. I mean, he still has a
- 15:23Speaker 1: terrible record as a starter, it's like way below five hundred.
- 15:26Speaker 1: But lately, like the last whatever eight ten games, he's
- 15:31Speaker 1: been better and they've been winning since he came back
- 15:33Speaker 1: from his injury. Now, it might just be a soft
- 15:35Speaker 1: spot on the schedule. It could be as simple as that. Now,
- 15:38Speaker 1: I look at the two Detroit games.
- 15:40Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Detroit's pretty good and they had them. They should have
- 15:42Speaker 1: beaten them twice. They split the two games.
- 15:45Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:46Speaker 1: And I think we talked about Pennix. I think, Evan,
- 15:50Speaker 1: you said Senior Bowl for him yesterday.
- 15:52Speaker 4: So Jim nagy Te's on Monday night during the game. Yeah,
- 15:57Speaker 4: oh wait till you see him in Mobile.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:59Speaker 4: So he don't have like a formal announcement that they
- 16:01Speaker 4: did with Bo Nicks. Yeah.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Bo Nicks had the formal announcement. So that's two of
- 16:04Speaker 1: the quarterbacks that are a little bit further down that
- 16:08Speaker 1: will be at the Senior Bowl and you know will
- 16:10Speaker 1: be there.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Well, not me, you come in my hopes.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Of Evan will be there.
- 16:17Speaker 4: It's gonna be h that. I'm really looking forward to
- 16:19Speaker 4: seeing Nicks because I think there's a lot of there's
- 16:22Speaker 4: a mixed bag on him right now. If some people
- 16:24Speaker 4: love him, some people hate him. So it'd be good
- 16:27Speaker 4: to see him in a different environment because that Oregon
- 16:30Speaker 4: offense is very unique and very simple in a lot
- 16:34Speaker 4: of ways, Like justin Herbert I think was held back
- 16:35Speaker 4: a lot by that offense in college too, So be
- 16:38Speaker 4: cool to see him in like a pro style offense
- 16:40Speaker 4: and how he operates down there. So Evan's here, Hi,
- 16:43Speaker 4: By the way, Evan.
- 16:45Speaker 8: Has turned, Evan has returned, has turned all right?
- 16:57Speaker 1: Evan.
- 16:57Speaker 2: A little bit of a change in schedule today, Yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 2: a little bit of a change of twelve o'clock practice
- 17:02Speaker 2: like the good old days, you know, going back to
- 17:03Speaker 2: the eleven thirty bill twelve o'clock practice.
- 17:07Speaker 4: Missed that anyways, next year. We have two absences at
- 17:12Speaker 4: Patriots practice today. Miles Bryant, who I don't know why
- 17:17Speaker 4: he was not at practice, Maybe an illness or something
- 17:21Speaker 4: like that. Wasn't hurt during the game. To my knowledge,
- 17:23Speaker 4: so who knows and no Trent Brown, who I think
- 17:27Speaker 4: is just I think we might have sent him to pastor. Ye, yeah,
- 17:31Speaker 4: it might be. It might be time on that one.
- 17:33Speaker 4: It'd be interesting to see when we go into the
- 17:34Speaker 4: locker room. Does does he have a locker is it's
- 17:37Speaker 4: la a cleaned out?
- 17:38Speaker 2: You know, it's a situation and were they outside?
- 17:42Speaker 4: They were outside and not in not in pad is
- 17:45Speaker 4: going to be a really light practice today?
- 17:46Speaker 2: Why do you think that is?
- 17:47Speaker 4: There's a lot of guys banged up according to the
- 17:50Speaker 4: head coach. I think there's also this, I mean, what
- 17:53Speaker 4: are they really playing for on Sunday in this game.
- 17:56Speaker 4: I think there's a lot.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Of what about finished strong? Whatever happened to that?
- 18:00Speaker 4: That's that's fair. I mean they did the same thing
- 18:02Speaker 4: last week. A lighter practice on Wednesday. Tomorrow will be
- 18:06Speaker 4: like a full schedule down here like it usually is
- 18:09Speaker 4: on Wednesdays and Thursdays, you know, full practice, four thirty,
- 18:13Speaker 4: locker room, you know, so tomorrow will be normal. I
- 18:16Speaker 4: think they're going easy on the guys a little bit
- 18:18Speaker 4: this late in the year.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Yeah, so, I mean it's true they probably are banged up.
- 18:22Speaker 4: And yeah, yeah, yeah, I think there are a lot
- 18:24Speaker 4: of guys even that are banged up that aren't necessarily
- 18:30Speaker 4: front and center on the injury report every single week,
- 18:33Speaker 4: just bumps and bruises of the season. Thinking about the center,
- 18:37Speaker 4: for example, David Andrews, who's played started every game and
- 18:41Speaker 4: is almost played every single snap, I think for them
- 18:44Speaker 4: on offense this year, guys like that, I think are
- 18:47Speaker 4: are pretty much tapped out at this point.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Okay, how was the media contingency?
- 18:54Speaker 4: A lot of media, I would say today, I think
- 18:57Speaker 4: Belichick coming in this morning and you know, he's getting
- 19:01Speaker 4: the questions and of course he's got all the deflections
- 19:04Speaker 4: to We're just focused on the Jets. We're just focused
- 19:06Speaker 4: on the Jets, not even just about his future, but
- 19:09Speaker 4: futures of people on the team, you know, other players
- 19:12Speaker 4: on the team, obviously Bill O'Brien, like how his performance
- 19:15Speaker 4: was this year, like all that kind of stuff, and
- 19:19Speaker 4: a lot of it is just you know, we're just
- 19:21Speaker 4: focused on the Jets right now.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Have national guys started showing up on the scene yet
- 19:27Speaker 2: not yet?
- 19:27Speaker 4: No, no, no, And I think the Snowstar might scare
- 19:31Speaker 4: him off on Sundays.
- 19:33Speaker 2: To yeah, okay, but the mood of the team.
- 19:39Speaker 4: I gotta admit it didn't start off well. No, we walked,
- 19:44Speaker 4: we walked into practice, and maybe we were like thirty
- 19:48Speaker 4: seconds early into practice because the music wasn't playing yet
- 19:54Speaker 4: and it was everybody was just kind of standing around
- 19:58Speaker 4: and it was kind of biz Are and Barth and
- 20:01Speaker 4: I were.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Just like everybody looked coming coming everything all right.
- 20:06Speaker 4: Then the music started and the stretching started, and it
- 20:08Speaker 4: felt like a normal practice. But I think we that
- 20:11Speaker 4: probably happens every practice. They just open the door.
- 20:14Speaker 6: Maybe they'll just sit there and stare at each other
- 20:16Speaker 6: in silence on this.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Like ever high.
- 20:20Speaker 4: What you say, open the door of the gate, of
- 20:23Speaker 4: the gate.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Of the gate.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, goes the gatekeeper, gotcha? Yeah all right, yeah,
- 20:29Speaker 4: god you say yes?
- 20:32Speaker 2: All right, Well that's that's your practice report when it's worth.
- 20:36Speaker 6: Yeah, I have a question, how does what is the
- 20:38Speaker 6: mechanics of the day after, like the locker clean I'm
- 20:41Speaker 6: trying to.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Remember there's a mandatory available.
- 20:44Speaker 4: The locker room will be open one person in person
- 20:47Speaker 4: in person. Bill would no, he does it on zoom
- 20:51Speaker 4: the next morning.
- 20:53Speaker 1: And and that would also he wouldn't necessarily have a
- 20:57Speaker 1: press Like if you're asking that, Yeah, that would barely
- 21:01Speaker 1: have a press scottvience, now I do. I can tell you,
- 21:04Speaker 1: you know from being around when Pete Carroll's last day,
- 21:09Speaker 1: the you know, the announcement went out and he did
- 21:13Speaker 1: not do a press conference from inside the old Patriots Club.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Remember this, Freddy, I think you were you were there.
- 21:18Speaker 1: It was in the parking lot and they had makeshift
- 21:22Speaker 1: like they had like a micy have a box?
- 21:24Speaker 4: Did he have a box in his hands?
- 21:25Speaker 1: Like people people literally were like putting their microphones up
- 21:29Speaker 1: and taping them all together. And there was a big
- 21:32Speaker 1: group of us around him, and he talked for a
- 21:35Speaker 1: little bit and uh.
- 21:37Speaker 2: And some of the fraud media that killing him just put.
- 21:41Speaker 1: But best of luck, Pete like doing the swim move
- 21:44Speaker 1: around people to get in there so they could shake
- 21:46Speaker 1: his hand. And I was like, yeah, all right, you've
- 21:48Speaker 1: been killing him for like three months.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Why was it in the parking lot because he was
- 21:52Speaker 4: no longer the head coach of the pages.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Like his key card didn't work anymore.
- 21:54Speaker 4: He can't get literally, that's what I said, like the
- 21:57Speaker 4: box of the stapler, that's our stapler.
- 21:59Speaker 2: It wasn't that the day that we saw Robert Kraft
- 22:02Speaker 2: drive off with Bill Belichick. Remember that I do not remember.
- 22:06Speaker 4: Yes, that happened.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Yeah, Bill, Robert and Bill had a conversation in the
- 22:14Speaker 2: car and they drove away together.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Based on my last two shows, I'm just going to say, yeah, no,
- 22:18Speaker 4: it happened.
- 22:19Speaker 1: I have no recollection that happened. They had a little
- 22:22Speaker 1: little red convertible, and.
- 22:24Speaker 2: I think at the time Robert said, you know, I
- 22:27Speaker 2: am or was considering bringing you on as head coach,
- 22:30Speaker 2: but it's too close to I need the separation.
- 22:35Speaker 4: I thought it will be interesting.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Do you think he had a conversation with Belichick about
- 22:44Speaker 1: wanting to hire him, but he thought it was too close.
- 22:46Speaker 2: He said, you were someone I'm I'm considering, but it's
- 22:50Speaker 2: too close.
- 22:50Speaker 1: So this was when Parcels left. Yes, okay, I'm talking
- 22:53Speaker 1: about when Carol left, which is which is why I
- 22:57Speaker 1: had no recollection of it, because I wasn't there when ourselves.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I was there when.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Ninety six, I'm sorry ninety seven.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Okay, So that was when he drove off with Yeah,
- 23:06Speaker 1: after ourselves.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Because that was weirds.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I had no recollection after ourselves.
- 23:10Speaker 4: We have like the paparazzi photo right right right.
- 23:13Speaker 2: He drove he drove off with Bill, yeah, after after Carol.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Like Paul said, it was in the parking lot, and
- 23:21Speaker 2: it was kind of weird.
- 23:22Speaker 1: It was it was a different, surreal kind of.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Environment.
- 23:27Speaker 1: And I think he wanted to talk like he actually
- 23:30Speaker 1: made a big deal because they just want to go
- 23:31Speaker 1: around and say hey to a bunch of you know,
- 23:33Speaker 1: typical people. You know, I just want to say hey,
- 23:36Speaker 1: hey to you know, some of the fellows. I think
- 23:40Speaker 1: he just wanted to do it. I think he he
- 23:42Speaker 1: just is a good guy, and I think he kind
- 23:43Speaker 1: of felt like, I want to say goodbye it all.
- 23:46Speaker 2: He was too nice. He was too and some of
- 23:49Speaker 2: these guys took advantage of him.
- 23:51Speaker 1: And I think that's all he wanted to do. Now,
- 23:53Speaker 1: he wasn't the coach of the Patriots anymore, so they're
- 23:55Speaker 1: not going to have the press conference on you know,
- 23:58Speaker 1: like inside the Patriots offices and whatnot.
- 24:01Speaker 4: So it was weird.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Guys like Borges would take it, you know, five million
- 24:05Speaker 2: dollar linebackers. Remember that.
- 24:09Speaker 1: It's it's it's bs only he didn't say BS, right,
- 24:13Speaker 1: and then he goes, oh swearing now, but like you don't.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Do like that's disrespectful.
- 24:18Speaker 4: I thought, do you think Ronnie was disrespectful that day.
- 24:22Speaker 6: Do you think there might be a similar situation this
- 24:24Speaker 6: time around where Bill needs some separation before he could
- 24:26Speaker 6: hire someone from this staff, like a Girod? Like, do
- 24:29Speaker 6: you think he he would need that separation again.
- 24:31Speaker 4: To get Robert Robert?
- 24:32Speaker 6: Well, you know how he had, he had Bill in house,
- 24:34Speaker 6: and he felt like he needed to get parcels out and.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Possibly, you know, I mean, but it's well, that's how
- 24:39Speaker 4: I feel.
- 24:39Speaker 1: But a lot of people disagree with no.
- 24:41Speaker 2: But I've heard you know, he doesn't. He wants the continuity,
- 24:45Speaker 2: like it's not all bad, you know, so why blow
- 24:48Speaker 2: it up? You know? That's who knows?
- 24:51Speaker 4: Who knows that Monday morning is going to be very
- 24:53Speaker 4: telling because Bill usually starts talking about this season that
- 24:58Speaker 4: we're currently in in the past tense or.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Right, we don't we can't even talk about it anymore. Lot,
- 25:04Speaker 1: we won the last game last year.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Right, so he'll started calling this year last year even
- 25:08Speaker 4: though last year just ended twelve minutes ago or whatever.
- 25:12Speaker 1: And he also playoff game was the epitome of yeah.
- 25:15Speaker 4: And he'll also talk about the off season and you know,
- 25:18Speaker 4: kind of things moving forward and all that kind of stuff.
- 25:21Speaker 4: And if he's not going to be here, then it's
- 25:24Speaker 4: gonna be odd to get those questions of like, oh,
- 25:26Speaker 4: so what do you think you're gonna do with the
- 25:27Speaker 4: second overall pick? And he's you know, not the one
- 25:30Speaker 4: making it.
- 25:31Speaker 6: It's just a weird I wonder if it's scheduled, and
- 25:34Speaker 6: then we get like, actually.
- 25:36Speaker 1: It's not going to happen this morning, like one of
- 25:37Speaker 1: those kind of up the rights. It's it is a great,
- 25:40Speaker 1: great point, Mike, because I I don't know how fast
- 25:45Speaker 1: it's going to happen. If it happens, and if it's
- 25:48Speaker 1: not done, do you just let him have his regular
- 25:52Speaker 1: Well you also have to call Monday morning.
- 25:54Speaker 4: Because you also have to worry about raising eyebrows in.
- 25:57Speaker 1: The media of because you know that'll happen.
- 25:59Speaker 4: We always do this every Monday morning after the game
- 26:02Speaker 4: is over, after the season is over, like why not
- 26:04Speaker 4: this week? And you know, why not this year?
- 26:07Speaker 1: But if he does it and they're gonna say, well,
- 26:08Speaker 1: I guess Bill's staying you know, yeah.
- 26:10Speaker 2: You know, just women, it's going to be a very
- 26:15Speaker 2: interesting weekend, all right. Eight five five Pats five hundred
- 26:19Speaker 2: is the a sticket hotline web Radio Patriots dot Com
- 26:23Speaker 2: is the email address anything else we want to bring up. No,
- 26:30Speaker 2: So before Evan, when you walked in, we were talking
- 26:33Speaker 2: a little bit draft and I.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Never talked about the draft.
- 26:37Speaker 1: No, that's when the teams take the player.
- 26:39Speaker 4: Yeah, can you explain it to me.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Like I'm one of the things we were talking about
- 26:42Speaker 2: the Bears in their situation.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Yeah, it's great if they if.
- 26:46Speaker 2: They do decide to move on from fields, is it.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Do you think they would want to make that trade
- 26:52Speaker 2: prior to the draft or can they wait till after
- 26:54Speaker 2: the draft and then trade them.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I don't know. They could be better for them to
- 27:00Speaker 1: do it before the draft, hey, because they would get picks, right,
- 27:04Speaker 1: but also to let everybody know, you know, like I
- 27:07Speaker 1: can bump up his value by saying I don't have
- 27:10Speaker 1: to take Caleb Williams. I can just keep If you know,
- 27:13Speaker 1: you guys are calling me looking to make a trade. Yeah,
- 27:17Speaker 1: I mean I think people would you know, rightly say, well,
- 27:20Speaker 1: if he's listening to me talk about a potential trade,
- 27:22Speaker 1: he's planning on taking Caleb Williams.
- 27:24Speaker 4: You also have a lot of teams. Well, we'll draft
- 27:27Speaker 4: quarterbacks that maybe would have been looking at justin fields
- 27:31Speaker 4: and now that you take those teams out of the equation.
- 27:33Speaker 4: Even if they draft somebody on day two they really
- 27:36Speaker 4: like the guy, if it's Bo Nicks or Pennix or
- 27:38Speaker 4: something like that, then all of a sudden, you know
- 27:40Speaker 4: that team is off the board. But I feel like
- 27:43Speaker 4: the Bears, I have already just put Marvin Harrison Junior
- 27:48Speaker 4: in a Bear's uniform. And however, wherever they pick him
- 27:51Speaker 4: in the top three or four picks, I don't know,
- 27:54Speaker 4: but I just feel like that's where that pick is
- 27:57Speaker 4: going to be. Whether it's I would think that they
- 28:00Speaker 4: would probably trade no lower than three because they don't
- 28:03Speaker 4: want to risk losing him at that point. It's a
- 28:07Speaker 4: good point, So maybe it's I would say the Commanders
- 28:09Speaker 4: are probably a good candidate to trade to one new owner,
- 28:12Speaker 4: probably new GM, new leadership there, wanting to make a splash,
- 28:17Speaker 4: and I could see them trading up to.
- 28:19Speaker 1: One that makes them that makes a lot of sense.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Washington would be I think a logical partner.
- 28:25Speaker 6: I like it just because you you know, I know
- 28:27Speaker 6: what Fields is.
- 28:28Speaker 1: I mean I don't.
- 28:28Speaker 4: I don't.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Actually we don't know what Fields is.
- 28:30Speaker 6: But I think you've already kind of spent that first
- 28:31Speaker 6: round pick on him, and you put some time and
- 28:33Speaker 6: effort into him, and even if he's not the guy,
- 28:36Speaker 6: at least then you say, well, we put the pieces
- 28:39Speaker 6: around him. We gave him Harrison, maybe we drafted one
- 28:41Speaker 6: of these tackles. And if it doesn't work, you still
- 28:44Speaker 6: have other guys, Like if you just immediately blow him
- 28:46Speaker 6: up and go to another quarterback, who's to say the
- 28:48Speaker 6: same thing isn't going to happen again? You know, for
- 28:50Speaker 6: all his warts, at least you kind of know what
- 28:52Speaker 6: he is.
- 28:52Speaker 1: And yeah, I like that method.
- 28:54Speaker 4: You saw it to the end, right right right.
- 28:57Speaker 1: If it doesn't get any better next year, at least
- 28:59Speaker 1: at least you know you gave them the resources. You
- 29:01Speaker 1: gave them the time. You're stuck with the same coach
- 29:04Speaker 1: and it didn't work. Now, it's obviously bad for the
- 29:07Speaker 1: Bears if that happens, but at least you don't have
- 29:09Speaker 1: any did we pull the plug too soon?
- 29:11Speaker 6: And at least you feel like you've got a favorable
- 29:13Speaker 6: situation for whoever you got to get rest time. And
- 29:15Speaker 6: if it didn't work, you're gonna be picking up high again,
- 29:16Speaker 6: and you're.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Probably That's my whole thing with Chicago is if it
- 29:19Speaker 4: doesn't work with justin fields, then you're going to be
- 29:21Speaker 4: picking in the top ten again next year anyway. So
- 29:23Speaker 4: then just draft the quarterback.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Then, you know, and you might get a similar situation.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I do think you know the quarterback then that we taught,
- 29:29Speaker 1: you know, the more we talk about Panix and Nix
- 29:32Speaker 1: and McCarthy, and I do think that the the COVID
- 29:36Speaker 1: stuff is starting to show in the depth of some
- 29:39Speaker 1: of these positions, and you do have more options at
- 29:42Speaker 1: quarterback than you probably would in a normal year, right
- 29:46Speaker 1: because so many of these got them, Like Panics is
- 29:48Speaker 1: six years, Nix is six years, I think too, Daniels
- 29:53Speaker 1: is six years.
- 29:53Speaker 4: Ay for that, well, eventually it's going to cycle out.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Something is going to take a while.
- 29:57Speaker 4: But the transfer porter is also such a fatter because
- 30:01Speaker 4: these guys, you know, if Pennix never transfers to Washington,
- 30:04Speaker 4: and we're probably not having the conversation of him being
- 30:06Speaker 4: even in the first round because he doesn't have the
- 30:08Speaker 4: platform to showcase himself in the College Football Playoff, in
- 30:11Speaker 4: the Pac twelve championship. But we're at this point now
- 30:14Speaker 4: with these guys where they go three years at Auburn
- 30:17Speaker 4: and then bow Knicks transfers to Oregon and plays a
- 30:19Speaker 4: couple of years at Oregon and then goes to the NFL.
- 30:22Speaker 4: So I think in some ways, though we were talking
- 30:24Speaker 4: about this a little bit off the air, Like I
- 30:26Speaker 4: think it's good because these quarterbacks that come in super
- 30:29Speaker 4: young and super green are just getting thrown into the
- 30:32Speaker 4: fire and they're raw.
- 30:34Speaker 1: You know, they don't have the start.
- 30:36Speaker 4: Especially from a mental standpoint, They just don't have the
- 30:39Speaker 4: the IQ to be an NFL starter right out of
- 30:42Speaker 4: the gate. And I wonder if maybe some of these
- 30:44Speaker 4: five six year college players might be starting from a
- 30:48Speaker 4: higher point of development that they can step in and
- 30:51Speaker 4: be a little bit better out of the gate. Like
- 30:53Speaker 4: I just think about all these guys that have flopped recently.
- 30:56Speaker 4: A lot of them were underclassmen or you know, didn't
- 30:59Speaker 4: play a ton of foot like a mac Jones he
- 31:01Speaker 4: had one year as a starter, you know at Alabama,
- 31:03Speaker 4: Like maybe he just wasn't ready, you know, maybe he
- 31:07Speaker 4: just wasn't mature enough.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah to do it. And on the flip side,
- 31:11Speaker 2: so what if he's twenty four. I mean, these guys
- 31:13Speaker 2: playing now to thirty five, thirty six, thirty seven, what
- 31:16Speaker 2: are we worried about anything beyond that.
- 31:18Speaker 1: You know, it doesn't it doesn't really overly concern me.
- 31:22Speaker 6: I mean, it's just it seems like it's like a
- 31:23Speaker 6: high class problem to worry about, Like, well, what if
- 31:26Speaker 6: he's great, We've only got nine years of him instead
- 31:28Speaker 6: of ten, so what Yeah?
- 31:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I just think quarterback is a position and I
- 31:32Speaker 1: made e been very happy after.
- 31:34Speaker 4: The show yesterday because this is grinding my gear.
- 31:36Speaker 1: I think a quarterback is a position that would that
- 31:38Speaker 1: would matter the least, And you could make an argument
- 31:41Speaker 1: it's better for the experience and the guy comes in
- 31:44Speaker 1: a little bit closer, And what's the difference if you,
- 31:47Speaker 1: like you said Fred, if the guy works out, you
- 31:49Speaker 1: got him for at least a decade.
- 31:51Speaker 4: Yeah, how much more do you want?
- 31:52Speaker 6: And just a little more mature too, like to take
- 31:54Speaker 6: over the leadership of a team and a bunch of
- 31:56Speaker 6: you know NFL veteran guys. It's a tough place, tough
- 31:59Speaker 6: bunch of personalities to kind of command a presence. And
- 32:02Speaker 6: you know, a kid like Penix who's done it at
- 32:05Speaker 6: a couple of programs. I mean, he seems like he
- 32:07Speaker 6: can handle it.
- 32:07Speaker 4: That's that's what excites me, maybe the most about Penix.
- 32:10Speaker 4: Like obviously a lot of these guys have really good
- 32:13Speaker 4: physical tools. You know, they can all throw, they can
- 32:16Speaker 4: all move around like those types of things. But from
- 32:18Speaker 4: what you hear from Washington, like he's the alpha in
- 32:21Speaker 4: the room and there's a lot of really good players
- 32:24Speaker 4: on that Washington team. You know, it's not a doone's
- 32:27Speaker 4: a it's not you know, some of those other guys
- 32:29Speaker 4: that are going to be first round, top fifty prospects,
- 32:31Speaker 4: when it's Penix who's the leader of that Washington team,
- 32:35Speaker 4: And I think that's what you need at that position totally.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Do you think this is a year sticking to the
- 32:41Speaker 2: draft that misinformation will come into play even more, Like
- 32:46Speaker 2: you know, a team who really looking for a quarterback
- 32:49Speaker 2: kind of makes it known that they're looking at Harrison
- 32:52Speaker 2: to kind of force Chicago's hand, or you know.
- 32:56Speaker 6: I think it always happens to some degree, you know,
- 32:58Speaker 6: I mean I always think, like you to the combine
- 33:00Speaker 6: and the medicals is a big thing. So like you
- 33:02Speaker 6: could see with Pennix, you know somebody Tom Pellisero comes
- 33:05Speaker 6: teams were a little bit shaken by you know, when
- 33:08Speaker 6: they had their doctors check them out, like things like that.
- 33:10Speaker 6: They could be put out there to try to push
- 33:12Speaker 6: him down a little bit. But I think that stuff
- 33:14Speaker 6: happens every year. I don't know why this year would
- 33:16Speaker 6: be necessarily unique.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Smelled wrists small hand. I do wonder.
- 33:20Speaker 4: I do wonder about the Cardinals because they it's different regime,
- 33:23Speaker 4: but they've done this before where they say, oh that
- 33:25Speaker 4: you know Josh Rosen.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Is our guy, and then.
- 33:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I just don't believe one hundred until they don't
- 33:35Speaker 4: turn in a card with a quarterback's name that the
- 33:37Speaker 4: Cardinals are all in on Kyler and not taking quarterback.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Is Caleb Williams not going to be the first overall pick.
- 33:45Speaker 4: I'd be shocked if he was, because you.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Know, I heard just today and one of Paul's show
- 33:50Speaker 2: another Caleb Williams story that uh, you know, his team
- 33:54Speaker 2: USC in their bowl game said now we're a team.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Now we're a team, and meaning that you know he's
- 34:01Speaker 2: not there he was, and that he had a birthday
- 34:03Speaker 2: party and nobody.
- 34:05Speaker 4: You didn't hear that. I did hear that.
- 34:10Speaker 2: I did. I heard that on one of Paul's shows.
- 34:12Speaker 1: That's that's it sounds like something Joe Murray would say.
- 34:15Speaker 4: I think it might have this was like Josh Rose
- 34:19Speaker 4: a lot of the same things coming out. He had
- 34:22Speaker 4: like a hot tub in his dorm room and like
- 34:24Speaker 4: stuff like that, and yeah, that was the book on
- 34:28Speaker 4: him and.
- 34:28Speaker 2: That spoiled rich.
- 34:30Speaker 1: What was the problem with Josh Rosen? He's sun thank you? Okay, Yeah,
- 34:34Speaker 1: Caleb Williams doesn't stink.
- 34:35Speaker 6: All right, but he seems like a USC's going to
- 34:38Speaker 6: go down With Caleb william I just like, if you
- 34:41Speaker 6: want to give me everyone's saying this, it's good, it's
- 34:44Speaker 6: a good prospect to go.
- 34:45Speaker 1: First of all, not everybody's saying everybody saying he's gonna
- 34:48Speaker 1: be the number one overall. Pick no, I think like
- 34:50Speaker 1: that's what that's what people are saying. But what But
- 34:52Speaker 1: my point is, if you want to tell me that
- 34:53Speaker 1: Caleb Williams doesn't do X, Y and Z, and for
- 34:56Speaker 1: that reason, I don't think he's going to pan out.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I'll listen to that all day. I am by as
- 35:01Speaker 1: far away from one of those experts as you can get.
- 35:04Speaker 1: I just don't want to hear he cried after they
- 35:07Speaker 1: lost the game, so he's emotionally on stage.
- 35:10Speaker 2: That leadership is any part of being a quarterback.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I think if you listen to and I can
- 35:14Speaker 1: give you a story that was written in the La
- 35:16Speaker 1: Times from late November. He is an exceptional leader and
- 35:20Speaker 1: considered to be a great teammate by his teammates. And
- 35:25Speaker 1: I can show you the old clip from a guy
- 35:27Speaker 1: if you want that. But again, if you want to
- 35:30Speaker 1: tell me he can't do things like, I'll listen to that.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Just don't tell me that he's not going to succeed
- 35:38Speaker 1: because he cried to his mother after a game. Yeah, Like,
- 35:41Speaker 1: that's not a valid reason to be down on a guy.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:43Speaker 4: The only football reason to be down on Caleb Williams
- 35:46Speaker 4: is that he holds the ball forever.
- 35:47Speaker 1: And he's a little small, Yeah, And I think that's
- 35:49Speaker 1: that stuff to me that would cause me to take
- 35:52Speaker 1: a second look.
- 35:53Speaker 4: Yeah, he's not as small as like Bryce Young or
- 35:56Speaker 4: thirty six to one. Yeah, but I would just the
- 36:00Speaker 4: ball for a while. He plays the Mahomes style game,
- 36:03Speaker 4: and Mahomes translated for Mahomes. But is it going to
- 36:06Speaker 4: translate for the next guy? Is the big question? You know,
- 36:09Speaker 4: there's only one Steph Curry, right, Like, not everybody's going
- 36:11Speaker 4: to shoot threes like that. It's kind of the same
- 36:13Speaker 4: thing with Patrick Mahomes comparison with Caleb So is he
- 36:18Speaker 4: Is he good enough that he can run around, hold
- 36:21Speaker 4: the ball forever. A bunch of turnovers in college, bunch
- 36:24Speaker 4: of fumbles with strip.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Sacks that that would cos me pause. Yeah, like that.
- 36:28Speaker 1: That's an evaluation of his skill set and whether or
- 36:31Speaker 1: not it translates to the NFL. I think Patrick Mahomes
- 36:33Speaker 1: is a lot bigger than people think.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Oh he's a big guy.
- 36:36Speaker 1: So I think that when you run around and you
- 36:38Speaker 1: take some hits, you're able to withstand him. And I
- 36:41Speaker 1: think that's part of the Bryce Young issue right now,
- 36:43Speaker 1: is he's so small he can't play that way. Yeah,
- 36:47Speaker 1: he can't run around and take hits because he'll break. Yeah,
- 36:50Speaker 1: And I think that might be a concern with Caleb Williams.
- 36:53Speaker 1: And he's holding the ball so long, you know, and
- 36:55Speaker 1: now he's subjecting himself to hits. I don't think he's
- 36:57Speaker 1: got that frame necessarily to withstand. Yeah.
- 37:00Speaker 4: He's not an anticipatory thrower from the pocket, Like he's
- 37:03Speaker 4: not gonna sit there and see it happen before it
- 37:06Speaker 4: happens and make throws like that. He's the guy that's
- 37:09Speaker 4: gonna want to move around and is going to want
- 37:11Speaker 4: to create plays with his legs and extend plays and
- 37:13Speaker 4: things like that. If you like harness that and put
- 37:16Speaker 4: it in the right offense, like the Chiefs have done
- 37:18Speaker 4: with Mahomes. It can be electric, but it could also
- 37:21Speaker 4: be he could be a fumble machine like he has
- 37:23Speaker 4: been at times at USC.
- 37:24Speaker 6: He seems to me kind of like a representative of
- 37:27Speaker 6: this new age of college player that is used to
- 37:30Speaker 6: He's got money, he's in advertisements, you know, like he is.
- 37:34Speaker 6: I mean, and of course Matt Lionert was the face
- 37:36Speaker 6: of their franchise, but it just seems even more so
- 37:39Speaker 6: to me with him, like he seems it's everywhere. I mean,
- 37:42Speaker 6: I'm seeing ads already on TV with him.
- 37:43Speaker 1: It's just it's interesting.
- 37:45Speaker 6: How those things are going to play out as this
- 37:46Speaker 6: as we continue to go down this road of athletes
- 37:48Speaker 6: who are coming into the NFL. They're used to being
- 37:51Speaker 6: the face of an organization, and you know, what, what
- 37:55Speaker 6: does it look like if it's not the same, Like
- 37:56Speaker 6: what if he goes to a small market team and
- 37:58Speaker 6: he's you know, not getting that kind of I'm gonna
- 38:02Speaker 6: sayttention necessarily, but he's just not the you know, the
- 38:04Speaker 6: same kind of juice that he had at at usc It's.
- 38:07Speaker 1: And I think it's just the start of it.
- 38:08Speaker 6: Really, I mean, this is going to be you know,
- 38:10Speaker 6: I mean there are other quarterbacks that have come out
- 38:12Speaker 6: that have been kind of this high profile. He feels
- 38:14Speaker 6: like he's already kind of made it, you know.
- 38:17Speaker 2: To me, I wonder, like, you know, it's back in
- 38:19Speaker 2: the day, but when Elway or Eli Manning famously refused
- 38:23Speaker 2: to go to the team that drafted them, Yeah, you
- 38:27Speaker 2: know when they got to their team, you know, did
- 38:29Speaker 2: people kind of look.
- 38:30Speaker 1: At them like, I just think I'll bet you they were.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:33Speaker 6: I just wonder how much fire there is with that
- 38:35Speaker 6: smoke of his dad and you know, these like kind
- 38:38Speaker 6: of high maintenance those kind of things, like the true
- 38:40Speaker 6: smoke that can affect his play on the field there,
- 38:42Speaker 6: Like that's what smoke.
- 38:43Speaker 1: I think. I think Mike brings up a really good
- 38:46Speaker 1: point about it, because I do think that's where it's going, Like,
- 38:49Speaker 1: you're not going to get these guys that like and
- 38:51Speaker 1: I think that rubs a lot of people, like my
- 38:53Speaker 1: age the wrong way. And I think that's where you're
- 38:56Speaker 1: seeing some of the blowback. Is this the Heisman Trophy
- 38:58Speaker 1: winner he's on the Heisman comer, so he's still in college.
- 39:01Speaker 1: It's a different landscape and you and I don't have
- 39:04Speaker 1: to like it. I don't particularly like it, but that's
- 39:06Speaker 1: the way it is, and I think you have to accept.
- 39:09Speaker 1: I think all of these guys are going to come
- 39:10Speaker 1: out of school now with a degree of that, you know,
- 39:14Speaker 1: as they entered the league.
- 39:15Speaker 6: Right Well, I think that's a great point too, because
- 39:17Speaker 6: even though you don't see these guys a lot of
- 39:19Speaker 6: them now, they're not coming to the NFL because they
- 39:21Speaker 6: need money now, right Like a lot of guys would
- 39:23Speaker 6: come into the NFL completely motivated by I got to
- 39:26Speaker 6: buy my mom a house, you know, or those they
- 39:28Speaker 6: don't that there isn't as much.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Of that anymore.
- 39:30Speaker 6: It doesn't seem like it seems like guys are already,
- 39:33Speaker 6: you know, having these these sponsorship deals in there, you know.
- 39:36Speaker 6: I just I wonder overall, if you're going to get
- 39:39Speaker 6: as many hungry holy Cross and cost I'm sure they're
- 39:45Speaker 6: rolling in the Nile money at holy Cross Hockey, but.
- 39:47Speaker 4: Could have gotten like certificates like t Anthony's.
- 39:51Speaker 1: He's good.
- 39:52Speaker 4: It's a good litmus test of the league because I
- 39:53Speaker 4: think between Caleb's whatever you want to call it, attitude, personality,
- 39:59Speaker 4: And you know, a guy like Daniels's skill set like
- 40:02Speaker 4: Jayden Daniels. You know, Lamar Jackson went thirty second overall
- 40:06Speaker 4: in his draft just five years ago with a very
- 40:08Speaker 4: similar skill set as Jaden Daniels. So like, is it
- 40:11Speaker 4: have they changed that way too?
- 40:13Speaker 9: Like?
- 40:13Speaker 4: Have we changed in this in the sense that a
- 40:16Speaker 4: guy that's probably better as a runner than a thrower,
- 40:19Speaker 4: but he's dynamic at both, is that good enough now
- 40:23Speaker 4: to be a top ten pick or a top five
- 40:25Speaker 4: pick versus Lamar Jackson, who was a better prospect in
- 40:28Speaker 4: a lot of ways than Jaden Daniels couldn't barely made
- 40:31Speaker 4: it in the first round. Let it let alone a
- 40:33Speaker 4: top ten pick.
- 40:33Speaker 6: How do you feel like, outside of Lamar Jackson, the
- 40:36Speaker 6: recent sample size of guys that kind of fit Jaden Daniels'
- 40:39Speaker 6: profile of the success they've had in the league, Like,
- 40:42Speaker 6: what does that point towards?
- 40:43Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a good question. I mean I think him
- 40:46Speaker 4: like a guy like Justin Feels. I think is a
- 40:47Speaker 4: little different because Justin Fields didn't run a ton in
- 40:50Speaker 4: college because he was a pretty good thrower, but then
- 40:54Speaker 4: has had to run more in the league because he's
- 40:55Speaker 4: not advanced enough as a thrower to just be a
- 40:58Speaker 4: thrower like he was at Ohios. So I don't know
- 41:01Speaker 4: if there's a guy that I think Daniels is the
- 41:04Speaker 4: most dynamic runner that's come through the draft since Lamar,
- 41:07Speaker 4: and I don't know if there's another like great current
- 41:10Speaker 4: comp in the NFL. But if you're if you're a
- 41:15Speaker 4: Jaden Daniels person like that, and you are the team
- 41:18Speaker 4: that takes Jade and Daniels, I don't see how you
- 41:21Speaker 4: build an offense around him unless it's like Baltimore. It's
- 41:23Speaker 4: like it's gonna have to be like that for him
- 41:26Speaker 4: to You do think that, Yeah, I really do, Like
- 41:28Speaker 4: I think that, sure, you could run like a spread
- 41:31Speaker 4: and have him do it maybe a little bit less,
- 41:33Speaker 4: like you're not gonna be running like real quarterback runs
- 41:36Speaker 4: like Baltimore.
- 41:37Speaker 2: News a little better throw coming out of college than
- 41:41Speaker 2: Lamar was.
- 41:43Speaker 4: I've heard that. I always thought that Lamar was a
- 41:46Speaker 4: really good thrower and was kind of underrated as a
- 41:48Speaker 4: passer coming out of college.
- 41:50Speaker 1: A funny motion I think that threw a lot of
- 41:51Speaker 1: people out.
- 41:52Speaker 4: Yeah, he had some mechanical issues that he had to
- 41:54Speaker 4: work on for sure, But in terms of like seeing
- 41:57Speaker 4: the field and processing and things like that, I think
- 42:00Speaker 4: kind of got a stereotype rap coming out. But maybe
- 42:05Speaker 4: that's changed now, Like Jayden Daniels, maybe they realize that
- 42:09Speaker 4: that was archaic and thinking that way and now it's different.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean I think there were guys, but
- 42:14Speaker 1: I mean I agree with the way Evan said that
- 42:16Speaker 1: no one really runs like Lamar, Like that's a different
- 42:19Speaker 1: level of like like Stroud, you know, is I think
- 42:23Speaker 1: he's a bit, you know, more of a passer than
- 42:25Speaker 1: a runner, but he can obviously, you know, extend plays
- 42:27Speaker 1: and make plays with his legs. So I think there
- 42:30Speaker 1: have been some guys that have had success doing it,
- 42:33Speaker 1: you know, different ways. Josh Allen certainly, you know, is
- 42:37Speaker 1: that kind of a you know, he's he uses his
- 42:39Speaker 1: legs a lot, you know, And I don't think if
- 42:41Speaker 1: he just if he just dropped back in the pocket
- 42:43Speaker 1: and had to throw the ball thirty five times every
- 42:45Speaker 1: game from between the tackles and did never run, I
- 42:49Speaker 1: don't think you'd look at him the same way.
- 42:51Speaker 4: Yeah, he needs that other element, and I think that's
- 42:53Speaker 4: what the Patriots defense did to him on Sunday was
- 42:55Speaker 4: kind of made him sit there, hit the second and
- 42:57Speaker 4: third read and rhythmim from the pocket and he's ruggle.
- 43:00Speaker 4: So I actually am starting the more of Drake May
- 43:03Speaker 4: that I've watched. I kind of see a little bit
- 43:05Speaker 4: of Josh Allen in him the radio and left. Yeah, no,
- 43:10Speaker 4: I think it's I. I originally had the Herbert comparison
- 43:14Speaker 4: that everybody else has, but Herbert, I think is a
- 43:17Speaker 4: little bit more under control with the way that he plays.
- 43:20Speaker 4: I think Drake May's got a little bit of that
- 43:22Speaker 4: Josh Allen.
- 43:24Speaker 6: Him throw a lefty pass at one point too, like
- 43:26Speaker 6: he's he's I mean, he's.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Fun and if you like that kind of thing.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Trevor from Kansas City. I'm so glad people have finally
- 43:34Speaker 2: watched Michael Penix so they realized if he didn't have
- 43:36Speaker 2: medical concerns, he'd be in discussion for the first overall pick.
- 43:40Speaker 2: I'd still love to take him even top five if
- 43:42Speaker 2: there's no long term structural damage. I think what I
- 43:45Speaker 2: learned most from the mac experiment experiment isn't that you
- 43:48Speaker 2: need to be a physical specimen to succeed, but you
- 43:51Speaker 2: have to have mental toughness. There's no QB in this
- 43:54Speaker 2: draft that has shown more mental toughness than Michael Pennock junior.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Go get him.
- 43:59Speaker 4: That's a good I mean, it's a fair point. Like
- 44:01Speaker 4: the guys come back from seventeen injuries and transfers and
- 44:05Speaker 4: has that team. Like, let's see what he looks like
- 44:07Speaker 4: against Michigan's defense, the best defense in college football. I
- 44:10Speaker 4: kind of wish that they were playing Alabama just because
- 44:13Speaker 4: then you could see him against Saban. But at the
- 44:15Speaker 4: same time, like Michigan's defense is probably the best statistical
- 44:19Speaker 4: defense in college football this year, So let's see how
- 44:22Speaker 4: he looks. If he tears up Michigan's defense like the Texas,
- 44:25Speaker 4: then then.
- 44:26Speaker 6: He's going to fall in the hole between where the
- 44:27Speaker 6: Patriots are and between the first and second pick.
- 44:30Speaker 1: I agree in the mental toughness with penis well wholeheartedly,
- 44:33Speaker 1: but I just have to be a little snarky. I
- 44:36Speaker 1: just like to thank the readers for introducing us to
- 44:38Speaker 1: the best players coming out of the draft.
- 44:40Speaker 4: Every year.
- 44:42Speaker 6: He came in, he was just like everyone watches Penix,
- 44:44Speaker 6: and now everybody's someone got to watch Michael Penick like
- 44:48Speaker 6: I did.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Like I didn't see him play like ten games in
- 44:50Speaker 1: Indiana like four years ago. Now I from, by the way,
- 44:54Speaker 1: was the receiver that I was trying to.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Ian from the UK wore. Drafting Penix in the second
- 44:59Speaker 2: round be similar to drafting Gronk in terms of risk reward.
- 45:03Speaker 2: I get Penis has more injury issues, way less of
- 45:05Speaker 2: a risk, but is it a chance worth taking dependent
- 45:08Speaker 2: depending on what we want to do with.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Our Yeah, that would be way way less of a
- 45:12Speaker 1: risk than Gronk. Gronk did not play his last year
- 45:14Speaker 1: in college and a back injury too. There was a
- 45:16Speaker 1: chance that he was not ever going to be able
- 45:18Speaker 1: to be physically, you know, fit enough to play in
- 45:21Speaker 1: the NFL. Plus he seems like a meet ball right,
- 45:23Speaker 1: like he fell asleep in his visit. I mean there was.
- 45:28Speaker 4: Meaning that he was that injured and then is the
- 45:30Speaker 4: greatest tight end of all time? Like to go like
- 45:33Speaker 4: like that?
- 45:33Speaker 1: Just as easily could have been he went to training camp,
- 45:36Speaker 1: blocked a guy, hurt his back and never played. Yeah,
- 45:41Speaker 1: like that just as easily could have unfolded that way.
- 45:43Speaker 4: Especially with how they protect quarterbacks in the league now too,
- 45:46Speaker 4: Like I just Penix, his injuries are bad, but it's
- 45:51Speaker 4: been a couple of years since he's been hurt and
- 45:54Speaker 4: he's been healthy at Washington, and you guys don't know.
- 45:57Speaker 1: One of you two said it yesterday. That's going to
- 45:59Speaker 1: be the big thing at the combine his medicals. And
- 46:02Speaker 1: you know, I think the previous emailer pointed out, like,
- 46:05Speaker 1: is it something that they think is structural And it's
- 46:07Speaker 1: going to be more like because I don't know necessarily
- 46:10Speaker 1: that you tear your acl and that means that you're
- 46:12Speaker 1: more susceptible to do it again. Now it definitely strips
- 46:15Speaker 1: you a little of your your burst and athleticism and
- 46:18Speaker 1: all that, but that I don't know if that necessarily
- 46:21Speaker 1: makes you a bigger injury risk moving forward.
- 46:23Speaker 4: Yeah, because at Indiana he was a runner. Look at Indiana,
- 46:26Speaker 4: he could run around and he doesn't run as nearly
- 46:29Speaker 4: as well now he can still move off his spot.
- 46:31Speaker 4: He moves the pot, yeah, the pocket, Yeah, but he doesn't.
- 46:34Speaker 4: He was he was a guy that would have added
- 46:36Speaker 4: like design runs on top of what he was now
- 46:39Speaker 4: at Indiana.
- 46:40Speaker 1: But he's kind of a power runner and he too,
- 46:43Speaker 1: They used to use him like t bow.
- 46:45Speaker 4: Maybe maybe he's gotten better as a passer because he's
- 46:47Speaker 4: that way, and.
- 46:49Speaker 1: That was the problem. Ye and he tore his a
- 46:52Speaker 1: cl twice.
- 46:53Speaker 2: AJ in the Bay Area. Does picking a quarterback in
- 46:57Speaker 2: the top five and using one of the subsequent picks
- 46:59Speaker 2: on tackle mean that you are doing nothing to protect
- 47:03Speaker 2: the quarterback? There must be something I'm missing. Is tackle
- 47:06Speaker 2: a position like quarterback that if you pick outside of
- 47:09Speaker 2: the early first round you're hoping for good luck that
- 47:12Speaker 2: they are suitable for a championship roster? Are there only
- 47:15Speaker 2: ten left tackles in the NFL that enable you to
- 47:18Speaker 2: be a Super Bowl contender? Kind of like there are
- 47:20Speaker 2: only about ten quarterbacks. Just isolating the offensive side of
- 47:24Speaker 2: the football and oversimplifying the formula to being a successful
- 47:28Speaker 2: team in this league, you need a top eight quarterback,
- 47:30Speaker 2: a top twenty wide receiver, and a solid old line.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Doesn't that logic lend itself to getting a quarterback in
- 47:36Speaker 2: the top of the draft and using the subsequent picks
- 47:39Speaker 2: towards those other assets in the order of their importance
- 47:42Speaker 2: to the formula of success. I agree tackle is more
- 47:46Speaker 2: important than guard, but wouldn't using a first round pick
- 47:49Speaker 2: when you don't have your quarterback be similar to the
- 47:52Speaker 2: cold strange pick, where even if he ended up being
- 47:55Speaker 2: the best tackle in the league, you could still be
- 47:57Speaker 2: less than a playoff team. I don't even understand what
- 47:59Speaker 2: he's saying.
- 48:00Speaker 4: I kind of understand it. I just I think the
- 48:02Speaker 4: difference is is that the Patriots used to operate in
- 48:05Speaker 4: a world on offensive line where they could hand Dante
- 48:08Speaker 4: Scarnekia anybody and he would turn him into a starting
- 48:11Speaker 4: caliber tackle, right. And now they don't operate in that
- 48:14Speaker 4: world anymore where they have the developmental ability at coaching.
- 48:18Speaker 4: They maybe they hire a new offensive line coach, maybe
- 48:20Speaker 4: Adrian Clem ends up being better at his job than
- 48:23Speaker 4: I think. But right now you have to hand whoever
- 48:26Speaker 4: is going to be coaching that group a talented room,
- 48:30Speaker 4: because I don't think that they're just going to tear
- 48:32Speaker 4: turn you know whoever Sebastian Volmer in the second round
- 48:36Speaker 4: from Houston and turn him into a starting right tackle
- 48:39Speaker 4: for eight years, right like I don't.
- 48:41Speaker 1: But you do not have to take a tackle in
- 48:42Speaker 1: the top five to get a good tackle, well, number one,
- 48:45Speaker 1: number two. There's a lot of teams that have success
- 48:47Speaker 1: with average to below average offensive line.
- 48:49Speaker 2: Yeah. The more important thing is how good does your
- 48:52Speaker 2: or how high of draft picks does your roll on
- 48:55Speaker 2: need to be to be a championship caliber team.
- 48:58Speaker 1: No, And I'm not saying that if whatever the way
- 49:00Speaker 1: this turned out, let's say it's disaster, okay, and they
- 49:03Speaker 1: beat the Jets and everybody else loses, and you drop
- 49:06Speaker 1: to like.
- 49:07Speaker 4: Six, I think it's five is the lowest thing.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Okay, So five and you know everybody's gone. The trades
- 49:13Speaker 1: went up in front of you. You couldn't do it. Like,
- 49:16Speaker 1: I'm not saying that you don't take Joe Aalt or Fishanu.
- 49:20Speaker 1: I'm not suggesting that you don't do that. But I
- 49:23Speaker 1: do think in this draft, the way that they've talked
- 49:25Speaker 1: about this, there are other tackles that will go in
- 49:28Speaker 1: the top twenty. So I think you can get like
- 49:32Speaker 1: the third or fourth tackle and they might all be
- 49:34Speaker 1: the same. That's probably not going to happen.
- 49:37Speaker 2: We all with quarterback, Yeah, it'd be better to invest
- 49:40Speaker 2: in the best offensive line coach that you can find.
- 49:43Speaker 4: Well that I mean, I think the offensive line coach
- 49:46Speaker 4: is maybe the most important assistant coach you have on
- 49:48Speaker 4: your entire staff. And like that that spot because you're
- 49:52Speaker 4: coaching a bunch of guys, Like it's probably the biggest
- 49:55Speaker 4: group of guys that you have to coach, and it's
- 49:57Speaker 4: about getting all five guys to do it together at
- 50:00Speaker 4: the same time.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Like that's a really hard and nobody else do. None
- 50:04Speaker 2: of the other coaches want to deal with it, so
- 50:05Speaker 2: you're kind of off on your own.
- 50:06Speaker 4: Yeah, And it's like one of those things too. And
- 50:08Speaker 4: I think this was Matt Patricia's problem, where like if
- 50:11Speaker 4: you weren't born in it, then you can't understand it,
- 50:13Speaker 4: Like if you're if you weren't you know a guy
- 50:15Speaker 4: like Dante Scarnekia who did it for so long, or
- 50:18Speaker 4: an offensive lineman in the past or whatever, like it's
- 50:21Speaker 4: so hard to learn the language. It's it's difficult if
- 50:24Speaker 4: you haven't really been in the trenches in that spot.
- 50:27Speaker 6: I would just say, like put the name to the claim,
- 50:30Speaker 6: like they have right now Vederian Lowe and Calvin Anderson
- 50:33Speaker 6: as their tackles on the roster.
- 50:34Speaker 1: So you know, if you want to tell.
- 50:36Speaker 6: Me that Kennot's seventh tackle is going to be just fine, okay.
- 50:42Speaker 6: But I also maybe would like to just say, hey,
- 50:44Speaker 6: can we just get an absolute stud and make this
- 50:46Speaker 6: guy a cornerstone of the franchise and then no matter
- 50:49Speaker 6: what quarterback we're gonna put in there is going to
- 50:51Speaker 6: be very well protected. And you know this is not
- 50:54Speaker 6: even on the field, but like a guy who's going
- 50:56Speaker 6: to be a face of the franchise. Like I don't know,
- 50:58Speaker 6: I just it's easy to say that, but like there's
- 51:01Speaker 6: no good tackles and free agency, like you're you're kind
- 51:03Speaker 6: of screwed at the position this year, and that's what
- 51:06Speaker 6: we say, Well, you're just gonna throw a second or
- 51:08Speaker 6: third rounder in there and it'll be fine. Like that's
- 51:10Speaker 6: a little concerning to me, especially if you're talking about
- 51:12Speaker 6: a rookie quarterback getting in there and he's gonna get
- 51:13Speaker 6: his bell rung.
- 51:14Speaker 4: That's a big problem is the free agent market is terrible.
- 51:17Speaker 4: Like Trent Brown and Mike on Wino are two of
- 51:19Speaker 4: the best free agent tackles are gonna be available, and
- 51:22Speaker 4: that that's the two guys you have right now that
- 51:24Speaker 4: you think aren't good enough. So the tackle class is
- 51:28Speaker 4: pretty top heavy, but there are quite a few guys
- 51:32Speaker 4: that are gonna go in the top fifty picks that
- 51:33Speaker 4: people think can play. But then it just drops off completely.
- 51:37Speaker 4: Whereas like wide receiver is really really deep. Yeah, like
- 51:42Speaker 4: this is probably one of the best wide receiver classes
- 51:45Speaker 4: we've seen in the last week.
- 51:46Speaker 6: Like every year, I feel like, you know, there's always
- 51:48Speaker 6: just a collection of guys over the first two days
- 51:50Speaker 6: that you know we'll be able to make an impact.
- 51:52Speaker 1: And that's I just feel like that. I mean, they
- 51:54Speaker 1: absolutely need to draft tackles. I mean, I mean they
- 51:56Speaker 1: should have last year. Really, that's I just feel like
- 51:59Speaker 1: we kind of loss. Like I think Evan's point about
- 52:01Speaker 1: the way that the unit has been coached is big
- 52:04Speaker 1: a part of the problem because I've seen them operate
- 52:08Speaker 1: with average to below average players at these positions and
- 52:13Speaker 1: it's been fine. Now, obviously Tom Brady helps that and
- 52:16Speaker 1: you don't have that, but I think that they've had
- 52:19Speaker 1: problems with communication and with you know, sort of execution
- 52:26Speaker 1: on simple stunts that happen all the time.
- 52:29Speaker 2: Yeah, the communications poor.
- 52:31Speaker 1: So I think that's partly at least on the coaching.
- 52:34Speaker 2: Yep, yep. Rich in New York enjoying the show during
- 52:37Speaker 2: the workday as always, I agree with Evan from past
- 52:40Speaker 2: shows who commented on the baggage about Caleb Williams with
- 52:43Speaker 2: his father, et cetera. That couple with Caleb's poor play
- 52:46Speaker 2: against good teams makes me skeptical about picking him so high.
- 52:50Speaker 2: I think Jayden Daniels has the grit to be an
- 52:53Speaker 2: NFL quarterback despite his frame not being as big as Lamar, etc.
- 52:58Speaker 2: When Jaden transferred from Arizona State, his teammates made fun
- 53:02Speaker 2: of him and trashed his locker.
- 53:03Speaker 4: Was Washington, did you hear that they scored fifty?
- 53:06Speaker 1: I mean having a whisper.
- 53:07Speaker 4: I think like he got killed against Notre Dame. Notre Dame,
- 53:12Speaker 4: there's no doubt about that. Washington, pretty good. Yeah, I
- 53:14Speaker 4: got in a shootout in that game.
- 53:16Speaker 2: When Jaden transferred from Arizona State, his teammates made fun
- 53:19Speaker 2: of him and trashed his locker. The video went viral online.
- 53:22Speaker 2: He didn't run home to his mother crying. He bawled
- 53:24Speaker 2: out at LSU and then won the Heisman separately, How
- 53:28Speaker 2: do you compare this situation? This this situation to the
- 53:31Speaker 2: early nineties when the Patriots drafted Drew. Yes, I know
- 53:34Speaker 2: they had the number one pick that year.
- 53:37Speaker 4: How do you know Jaden Daniels didn't go home and
- 53:39Speaker 4: cry to his mom Just because it wasn't he doesn't
- 53:42Speaker 4: mean he didn't do it.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Caleb Williams ran hiding from Oklahoma and went to USC
- 53:46Speaker 1: and what did he do? I'll fill it in. He
- 53:50Speaker 1: won the Heisman?
- 53:50Speaker 4: Oh okay, yeah, just.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Again, if you don't want Caleb Williams or Drake may
- 53:57Speaker 1: or Jayden whoever you picked, that's fine. I just please
- 54:02Speaker 1: don't give me that he cried to his mother as
- 54:04Speaker 1: a reason why you don't want to take Caleb Williams.
- 54:07Speaker 1: Tell me something football wise why you don't want to
- 54:10Speaker 1: take them.
- 54:11Speaker 4: A little bit of a couple of news items here, Oh,
- 54:15Speaker 4: not nothing major, but the Chiefs are saying that Patrick
- 54:18Speaker 4: Mahomes is not playing in the game on Sunday against
- 54:21Speaker 4: the Chargers, which matters because the Chargers are five and
- 54:25Speaker 4: eleven and are right in the in the mix draft
- 54:29Speaker 4: pick wise, so that that adds entry to that. And
- 54:33Speaker 4: also Zach Wilson still not out of concussion protocol, so
- 54:37Speaker 4: looking like Trevor Simes the Jets.
- 54:40Speaker 2: I can ask a question though, Paul, like, did we
- 54:41Speaker 2: play him when he was a Denver?
- 54:44Speaker 4: We've played him before, I don't remember where it was.
- 54:46Speaker 6: Just just regards with the crying, doesn't bother me.
- 54:50Speaker 4: But if the father thing worries me, but it's not
- 54:52Speaker 4: gonna lie about.
- 54:53Speaker 1: That's kind of performative and that and that would be
- 54:57Speaker 1: I don't cry. I don't care. But the performative names
- 55:00Speaker 1: would agree with that that that's a little bit of
- 55:02Speaker 1: a bug.
- 55:02Speaker 2: To me, I think he's a little bit of a headcut.
- 55:05Speaker 1: It's fine if you think that's a bug. Like again,
- 55:07Speaker 1: I don't have any problem with including all of this.
- 55:10Speaker 1: Just don't tell me he stinks because of that. Oh yeah,
- 55:12Speaker 1: which is what's happening, not to the people who matter,
- 55:15Speaker 1: the people on the radio. They're saying this like he
- 55:18Speaker 1: cried to his mother. I'm out on him.
- 55:19Speaker 4: Like I've heard that like ten times by my boys
- 55:22Speaker 4: on my show.
- 55:23Speaker 1: I'm out on him.
- 55:24Speaker 4: He cried.
- 55:24Speaker 6: It's okay, yeahs im as being rational about it, right,
- 55:28Speaker 6: It's not the crying. It's just, you know, it felt
- 55:30Speaker 6: like I'm going to make this about me right now.
- 55:32Speaker 1: And I don't know.
- 55:34Speaker 4: I just worry about him in this market. Like I
- 55:37Speaker 4: don't worry about him in terms of his talent. I'm
- 55:39Speaker 4: kind of with Paul on this, like in terms of
- 55:42Speaker 4: all that type of stuff, But I just worry about
- 55:44Speaker 4: him in this market, like is he mentally tough enough
- 55:48Speaker 4: to handle Boston? Because if he doesn't play well right
- 55:51Speaker 4: out of the gate, or if he struggles like Mac
- 55:53Speaker 4: did you know after a good rookie year, Like, I
- 55:56Speaker 4: don't know how Mac handled being in this environment. I
- 55:58Speaker 4: don't know if it was the best for him. That
- 56:01Speaker 4: every single person is shouting that he stinks.
- 56:04Speaker 1: And that you know, Zappi's getting changed, right.
- 56:06Speaker 4: Yeah, Like, I don't know how all that stuff really.
- 56:09Speaker 1: They lost that game fifty two to forty two. He
- 56:11Speaker 1: doesn't play well against good teams.
- 56:13Speaker 4: That was the game.
- 56:15Speaker 1: That was the game, that was the Washington It was
- 56:17Speaker 1: against Washington, the best team that they played.
- 56:20Speaker 2: Yeah, Colin and Scotland. Do you think we could get
- 56:24Speaker 2: Justin Fields for a third or fourth round pick and
- 56:27Speaker 2: try and get Marvin Harrison Junior with our first pick?
- 56:29Speaker 2: Or do you think Fields is a lost cause.
- 56:32Speaker 1: I think you get them maybe with a maybe with
- 56:34Speaker 1: a third round pick, because I saw the follow up
- 56:38Speaker 1: thing it said second and second or third, and I
- 56:41Speaker 1: got to think the Patriots being in the high second,
- 56:44Speaker 1: they would be closer to third. Yeah, you know what
- 56:47Speaker 1: I mean. If if you think it's second to third,
- 56:48Speaker 1: you're not going to get a high second for him.
- 56:50Speaker 1: It's probably gonna be something in between. I feel skewed because.
- 56:53Speaker 6: We saw him play pretty well here against the Patriots
- 56:55Speaker 6: last year when when they you know, that was probably
- 56:57Speaker 6: the worst, one of the worst losses of the season.
- 56:59Speaker 6: I don't know, I can't I don't feel like I
- 57:01Speaker 6: can speak really to like. He still has talent. I mean,
- 57:04Speaker 6: you see what he does, but it just isn't consistent.
- 57:07Speaker 6: And I think trying to predict whether someone will find
- 57:09Speaker 6: that consistency and be able to play game in game out,
- 57:12Speaker 6: not making dumb mistakes, making good throws, you know, throwing
- 57:15Speaker 6: it away when the like it's it's really hard to predict.
- 57:18Speaker 6: And I think that's exactly what Chicago's probably asking themselves
- 57:21Speaker 6: right now.
- 57:21Speaker 1: But we kind of.
- 57:22Speaker 6: Talked earlier like that, you've you've spent the pick on
- 57:25Speaker 6: the guy, You've invested in him a little bit, maybe
- 57:27Speaker 6: fill a couple other needs, and then see what happens
- 57:29Speaker 6: with him this year, and if you got to go
- 57:30Speaker 6: back to it, then then you've got some other pieces
- 57:32Speaker 6: in place waiting for that guy.
- 57:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not too interested in justin fields and I
- 57:36Speaker 4: was a big fan of his coming out.
- 57:37Speaker 1: That that would only be if if I can't get anybody.
- 57:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I just don't really see how that's a means
- 57:43Speaker 4: to an end for the Patriots. Like, so you're gonna
- 57:45Speaker 4: take another quarterback that that needs that's missing something. There's
- 57:50Speaker 4: just something, you know, the consistency thing. I think is
- 57:52Speaker 4: exactly it, Mike, that he's just not as a thrower.
- 57:55Speaker 4: He's just not consistent enough to do it for four
- 57:58Speaker 4: quarters every week can consistently be locked in and you're
- 58:02Speaker 4: gonna try to fix that problem. I just I don't
- 58:07Speaker 4: see it.
- 58:07Speaker 6: I think I also think I've been a little bit
- 58:10Speaker 6: I don't want to say broken by Cam Newton, but
- 58:12Speaker 6: like just that year of Cam Newton, Like, I just
- 58:14Speaker 6: I have no desire for a retread quarterback.
- 58:17Speaker 1: Like there's just a big part.
- 58:18Speaker 6: Of me that would just say I'd rather get my
- 58:20Speaker 6: butt kicked with Bailey Zappy and get you know, and get.
- 58:23Speaker 1: A first overall pick.
- 58:24Speaker 6: Then you know, to bring in one of these guys
- 58:26Speaker 6: who's been everywhere and you don't really have any hopes
- 58:29Speaker 6: of doing anything with them, but you need to put
- 58:32Speaker 6: somebody in the position.
- 58:33Speaker 1: And it can't be you know, Bailey's Appy again.
- 58:35Speaker 6: So I'm probably wrong, I know it, but I just
- 58:37Speaker 6: am like I just I'm like, go back to your
- 58:39Speaker 6: Stidham thing, like I just like, just play Steadham then, like,
- 58:41Speaker 6: let let's just take our lumps and instead of trying to.
- 58:44Speaker 1: Fake it with with a film I don't like, it
- 58:46Speaker 1: wouldn't be this would be a that would totally be
- 58:49Speaker 1: a bridge guy, not not a fake it. We're not
- 58:51Speaker 1: we're not like we're not taking a run like And
- 58:54Speaker 1: again I.
- 58:55Speaker 4: Agree with you guys.
- 58:56Speaker 1: If there's four or five quarterbacks that I would say, like,
- 58:59Speaker 1: I don't really like bo Nicks and JJ McCarthy, but
- 59:02Speaker 1: you could sell me on the other the other four Williams,
- 59:05Speaker 1: may Daniels and Pennix. You can sell me on those four.
- 59:10Speaker 1: But that doesn't mean you can get them. It doesn't
- 59:12Speaker 1: mean you guaranteed to get them. And if they don't,
- 59:15Speaker 1: I don't just want to run it back with Bailey's appy,
- 59:18Speaker 1: like I want something to come in here.
- 59:20Speaker 2: Now.
- 59:20Speaker 1: Maybe you'd say, well, that's too expensive getting you know,
- 59:24Speaker 1: justin Fields. You know, there's got to be this year's
- 59:26Speaker 1: version of Baker Mayfield available or something like that. Mayfield,
- 59:30Speaker 1: you know, Yeah, I don't think he's going to be available. Yeah,
- 59:33Speaker 1: especially if especially if they win Sunday.
- 59:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Joe from Watkins Glenn Wright in Fred's talking about
- 59:39Speaker 2: the twenty fourteen movie Draft Day, where the quarterback was
- 59:42Speaker 2: supposed to go number one at a party and none
- 59:44Speaker 2: of his teammates went to it and he ended up
- 59:46Speaker 2: falling in the draft. I didn't say it.
- 59:49Speaker 4: This is this is this is this is great.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Your guy said it.
- 59:52Speaker 1: We've had our listeners introduce us to Michael Pennix today.
- 59:56Speaker 1: I've never seen him, never heard of them. And now
- 59:59Speaker 1: I don't know if you've got I have heard this,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: but there's a movie called Draft Day where both hand
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: doesn't have anybody.
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: That movie I won all my picks back, Like what, like,
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: what do you what kind of realistic movie is?
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: It was completely unrealistic.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: That's the one with Kevin Costner, right, And oh yeah,
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: you didn't think that was realistic? It wasn't, But I
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: thought it was an I was.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: I found it very entertaining, not realistic in any way.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: I went in with very very low, low expectations and
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: I was like, oh, this is it. It's it's okay.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: You know what else? You know why they ended up
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: picking the guy that they picked because he gave the
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: hundred dollars bill back, right. He was the only one.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: He was the only one the only right.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: I know you like you're looking for realism, but if
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: you were to make a movie about Draft Day the
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: way it really is, it'd be boring as hell.
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: That is true, I get I get that to an extent,
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: but it's just like, can we have some sort of
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: realism whatsoever?
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Like it was pretty bad, he traded everything and then
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: just brought it all back.
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: Just that it does not work.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: Evan's you're the extreme end of it.
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: But like my wife, who is is the most casual
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: of casual football fans, she enjoyed it too. I mean
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: it puts it for people who aren't really like investing,
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: they understand at least the dynamics.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: I agree with that.
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: I found it entertaining watch, but you know, it's like
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: a it's like a you know, draft for dummies.
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: Kin, I'll never get that. Two hours back.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: Travis in West Virginia. I think this is aimed at Evan.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: I'm not sure, but he says, since his play has
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: been mediocre of late, or any of you considering removing
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: the Josh Allen fathead from your bedroom wall? Oh, either
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: Paul or Evan.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: That could be the one of us. I mean, Evan
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: has more of a crush than I do. Yeah, I
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: do have I.
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: Do have a crush. I was disappointed I didn't get
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: to see him after the game on Sunday. I remember me. Yeah,
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: look I I Barts was texting me all of the
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: game on Sunday. Your boys stayings. He's awful.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: This that the other thing like unbelievable.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: I would trade places with Buffalo and harp Beat right now,
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: like if you were, and all of you would do
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: the exact same.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: If they pants off, if you if there was a
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: trade tomorrow that all these all of these guys on
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Twitter every week, Yeah, we'd have left to tell you
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: every time he makes a mistake, would be pants.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: Have an emergency podcast, that would be. But he didn't
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: listen to ever.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: Well, he didn't play well at all in the game.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: He was terrible.
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: He was terrible, and you still weren't even close to
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: really winning the football game against them.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: So do you guys think they're in trouble though?
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: I mean, do you think that he's in trouble, that
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: that the things are turning for him or do you
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: think that I mean, I just something feels trouble.
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: Was forty two touchdowns? Then I'll sign up for that
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: trouble again.
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: But I mean, like, but as far as the team, like,
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: you know, it's just it seems like they you know.
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: And I'm saying this because I I want Josh. I
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: don't want him, but he deserves to be I think
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: they successful.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: I think they have some flaw.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: This is the thing. I was talking to a long
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: time beat writer in Buffalo when I was up there,
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: and there's added pressure on the team right now because
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: they're building this new stadium. The state or minutes of
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: or whoever is going to pay for one and a
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: half billion of that stadium.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: Anything over that the bills have to come up with,
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: and there's the minimum will be half a billion, you know.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: And it's not like they have a big corporate base
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: there and they're selling suites like in LA and everything.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: So come to Buffalo.
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: So this guy was saying, if for some reason they
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: didn't get into the playoffs, it looks like now they might.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: But no, it's not definite. But we were talking before
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: the game, you know, and he was saying, if there's
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: you know, some reason they don't get into the playoffs,
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: it's gonna be there's gonna be a.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: Lot of people they have a very good chance to
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: not go to the playoffs.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and so there's pressure on the team, pressure on
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: the owner that trickles down to you know, ra and
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: then to the players. I think had to get that.
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: I think his problem is so coach. There's so much
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: coaching though, because it's just the way he plays, and
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: Dable just seems like the only guy that could get
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: through to him to play under control and all these
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: other people can't do it. But at the same time,
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: he can beat you any given Sunday like Torment. Yeah.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: What I think Dabel did was that Dabel found the
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: like the line like you can do this and you
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: can do that, but you have to do this than
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: this too. Yeah, and where I think early in the
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: year with Ken Dorsey it was like you can't run anymore,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: just you need to stop doing all that, stop being stupid,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: just stay in the pocket. And he can't play like that. Yeah.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: And then now it's you know, the desperation sets in
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: and you they basically need to win all their games
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: to make the playoffs. So every third down increases in importance,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: and you see him make a decision like he did
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter where he's a yard short and
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: he's trying to reach the ball out in the middle
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: of the field, right like you like most coaches would
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: teach you don't do that on the goal line. That's
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: what he did it in the middle of the field
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: with the ball extended. That fumble could have cost him
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: the game.
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I just it's so funny too, because all of
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: the advanced metrics still love the Bills offense, and they
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: love Josh.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: Allen, like the Bills offense is not.
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: When you watch it, it's such a different vibe than
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: what if you just look at the spreadsheet right now
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: at them, because they if you just looked at the
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: stats and all that, like he might be the MVP
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: of the league. But then you actually watch their offense
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: and you're like, this is all over the place.
- 1:05:15Speaker 6: And even if you look at the personnel on paper
- 1:05:17Speaker 6: where it's like you got Digs, you got the number one,
- 1:05:19Speaker 6: you got Gabe Davis, good deep threat. Shakier's kind of
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: emerging as a slot guy. You drafted these you know,
- 1:05:23Speaker 6: the tight end who goes with Knox, who's been pretty
- 1:05:25Speaker 6: good and given the Patriots problems is I guess I'm
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: just looking at it if I was you know, a
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: Bills front office guy, what would I be looking at
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: this offseason, Like, what would I look to change to
- 1:05:34Speaker 6: try to get him at that level where it felt
- 1:05:36Speaker 6: like they were knocking on the day super Bowl.
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: They need some consistency out of guys not named Digs. Yeah,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: I mean I don't know, Like if that Shakiir, I
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: think it's probably at this point we've seen enough of
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: Gave Davis. It ain't him.
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: They want it to be like, yeah, yeah, I think
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: he's fine, But I just don't think you get like
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: they needed another presence, yeah, like a dynamic player.
- 1:05:57Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: It's funny to say that he had a fifty one
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: yard catch.
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: Yeah, kin Kaid's more explosive than I thought he was going.
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: I thought he was going to be that steady possession
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: tight end or that, and I think that's what they
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: thought too. And as a rookie, he's been more the
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: fifty one yard catch guy than he has been you know,
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: just the and I think that that's almost been backwards
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: for them in a way, like it just they have
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: been targeting him a lot on like just little passes
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: over the middle, like and just trying to get him
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: to move the chains for them and I just don't
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: think it's out of that much consistency.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: James Pettigrew, the most interesting Patriots fan in the world,
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: rites in about the movie Draft Dass. I remember taking
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: a laminated copy of Jimmy Johnson's trade value chart to
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: the theater being very disappointed.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: Doesn't add up, doesn't add up.
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: That was a shot at you asked, you know what.
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: The perfect though, I think for the Bills is like
- 1:06:47Speaker 6: that DeAndre Hopkins move.
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: You know where you.
- 1:06:49Speaker 6: Get that like a little older receiver still got some juice,
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: doesn't you know. Maybe he isn't going to be the
- 1:06:54Speaker 6: huge contract, but you know, to be able to get
- 1:06:56Speaker 6: more of those point.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: The thing with them is the reason why they made
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: an offensive coordinator move is because they knew they had
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: the people to be better. We should be performing better
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: than we are.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Yeah, but your point about Ora is actor. I do
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: think there's like and I think he's unlike most. I
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: think he's a pretty good coach. I don't know if
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: he gets tight in big games, and maybe that's you know,
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: what happens, and that's a flaw obviously, but I do
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: think there's a staleness to it that, like.
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: You're good you're good. You're good.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: We just can't seem to get past the AFC Championship.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: We can't get to the super Bowl.
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: And then maybe there's a little bit of a frustration
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: level come to that.
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: He's Mark Jackson, Mark Jackson, I think of more NFL,
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: but he's.
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: Mark Jackson, like he's the Warriors Mark Jackson.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: Then Steve Kirk came in and they yeah.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: I will say this about like I thought their defense
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: was completely done, Like when they lost all those guys
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: and they would given up. They would given up a
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: lot of yards and a lot of points in some
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: of those games. And McDermott was under fire because remember
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: he sort of won the power play with Leslie Frazier.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: They didn't like the way they were playing. He left.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: I'm going to call the plays. They lose Milano, they
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: lose White, they lose Jones, they lost a lot of players.
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: Don Miller he's.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: Been he's well, he hasn't really been a part of
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: the defense. I don't call him a loss because he
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: hasn't done anything for him. But they lost a lot
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: of personnel and they didn't look like they had any
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: answers on how to fix it. Now all of a
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: sudden the last month, the defense has played pretty well.
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: For Raszello Douglas really who just wanted to.
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: That was a big moved bean A lot of credit
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: Player of the Week Rasul Douglas.
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: That was a huge move for them defensively. And I
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: wonder like if you gave because I think McDermott is probably,
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: like you kind of said, going stale, Like I think
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: that it's probably.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: I just wonder just from a fight.
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: I don't know if Ben Johnson is their head coach
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: next year and he gets like puts Josh Allen in
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: the Jared Goff offense and like kind of gets him
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: to harness it a little bit more Like I feel
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: like those types of guys that are offensive minded would
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: have that ability to come in and and say, we're
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: going to put you in a system and it's gonna
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: produce the explosive plays for you. So you're not running
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: around like you don't have to run, right, You.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: Run when we want you to run. Yeah? Yeah. Barton
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: Poland says question mainly to Evan Shocker. Aren't you a
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: bit concerned that most of Pennox's production comes outside the numbers?
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: He has horrendous numbers when throwing up the middle, and
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: NFL teams will exploit that. I'm still not sold. However,
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: if he keeps a production against a very good Michigan defense,
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: then I may be swayed.
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I just if you're good, Like we could probably
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: say the same thing. The other guys are good throwing
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: in the middle of the field and aren't good outside
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: the numbers. So you worried about it, you would you rather?
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: I would say middle of the field, not me. But
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: I think that it if you're really really good at
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: one thing, then I can build around that if it
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: doesn't really make it difference.
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: And I don't know the numbers, so I'll trust it.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: But I mean I saw an absolute seed that he
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: threw right down the middle for a touchdown touch on
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: like between the two.
- 1:09:58Speaker 6: I watched it like six times, Like how did that
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: even get through? Like, I mean, I'm sure that he
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: has the numbers.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: I don't. I don't have those kinds of numbers, can
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: I it's a scratch for a second. Sure he just
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: brought up mac Jones. So there was a and and
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: I don't know if this was a lot of people. Yeah,
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: I have an inch to scratch, and you know, that
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: that's right, I have an inch, I'm itching. I'm scratching it.
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: What's wrong with that?
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: Can I scratch? Can I itch a scratch? Real quick?
- 1:10:24Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: So, Bailey's Appy throws three picks. And there's been a
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: lot of credit quote unquote given to the resilience of
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: the Patriots on Sunday, which I would agree with. I
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: don't think they didn't tucktail and go home and.
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: Lose by thirty.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: They kept fighting and got this, got themselves back in
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: the game, what you know. And then there was a
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: line of thought and I heard it on my shows
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: this morning driving in. Well that's the quarterback, you know,
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: Bailey's Appy, Like you know, he didn't he didn't let
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: it get to him. He kept fighting, and that's what
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: they weren't getting in Mac and against New Orleans it
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: fell apart, you know. Once he threw a pick, it
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: was all over. He was a puddle. And I started thinking,
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: you guys, correct me if I'm wrong. I didn't go
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: back and look at that look this up. But like
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: I was thinking back to the opener where the first
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: drive of the season ends in a pick six, and
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: then the next drive, then the next drive ends up
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: with a fumble and all of a sudden, they're down
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: sixteen to nothing, and he responded with two of the
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: best drives he had all year. They didn't tucktail and
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: go home.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: That was a long time ago.
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: No, But my point is it took some time for
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: mac Jones to look like he did.
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: Okay, so we get a few more games like that
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: from Bailey Zappi and then what happens.
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe he's the same.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: Like I think Mac Jones didn't tucktail in the in
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: the first game. He didn't do that in the second
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: game either, when Ta Mario Douglas fumbled and they never
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: got to see the field again as an aside, and
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: also threw a pick in the second half of that
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: game as they were trying to get back into the game. No,
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: they kept fighting to the last possession, and they gave
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: themselves a chance. I don't think they had it really
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: a huge chance to win either game. But my point is,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: why was that not resilient? Why is it only resilient
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: when Bailey's Appy does it?
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I didn't really even look at it
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: that way.
- 1:12:10Speaker 6: I just I looked at it more as Bailey's Appy
- 1:12:12Speaker 6: just kept doing what Bailey's Appy does and it wasn't
- 1:12:14Speaker 6: really that remarkable or that inspired. It's just you know
- 1:12:17Speaker 6: they I mean, what more did they do?
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: And if you guys disagree, if I've created.
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: A straw man, there's less pressure on them too.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: But if I've created a straw man and people don't
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: look at it that way, but I heard that a lot.
- 1:12:29Speaker 6: Yeah, No, I mean I do think the context of
- 1:12:31Speaker 6: the season and what's to play for in the first
- 1:12:32Speaker 6: game of the season, and you know, not giving up,
- 1:12:34Speaker 6: you know, after the first two drives of the season
- 1:12:36Speaker 6: versus you know your team is already out and you're
- 1:12:39Speaker 6: four and eleven.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: How many times have you heard how many more games
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: they would have won if they made this? Okay? Well,
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: can I can I just ask like, can you let
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: me know, did he play like he did in the
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: first half against Pittsburgh against the Charge against the Giants,
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: or did he play like he did in the first
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: half against Buffalo against the Giants? Right?
- 1:12:57Speaker 6: And that's and that's exactly Like like so much of
- 1:12:59Speaker 6: Zappi's game, you can draw complete parallels to what Mac
- 1:13:02Speaker 6: did exactly the same.
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: It's basically the same Mac joneses. I mean bailey's Appi's
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: numbers as a starter are slightly better than Mac Jones',
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: only slightly. It's like one point two touchdowns to like
- 1:13:17Speaker 4: zero point nine. Like that's the difference. Yeah, Bailey Zappi's
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: QBR is thirty eight, mac Jones is thirty six.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: Wow?
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: Is that just as the highest? Is that just as
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: a starter? Just as the starter? Okay, yeah, because both terrible.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, the rating is like eighty nine to seventy
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: eight or something like that.
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: It's it's not all that different. I think I wrote it.
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: The only difference really is that they were eighty seven
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: to seventy seven. The big difference is obviously the big plays.
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: Like Bailey Zappy has produced more big plays down the field.
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: Now he's also had guys make catches for him, so
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: that that might be Like Jalen Rager drops the deep
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: ball against Washington, he caught.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: Caught the one on Sunday. That's what I was doing
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: my mic thing. It's like you think Mac just looks.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: I say, some of them we get specialtys touchdowns. This
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: jackass couldn't catch a cold. When I was throwing it
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: to Devonte Parker too. What was the Parker drop earlier
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: in the season with Mac and Raiders and Raiders get
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: the Raiders, and he was like five for five and
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: contested catches in Denver.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: Right, yeah, right, no help, Let's get to the a stick.
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: He had no high picked pats five hundred. Eldred's in
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: North Carolina. What's up, Eldred?
- 1:14:25Speaker 11: Hey, hey fellows all y'all doing good? Held I'm doing good, okay,
- 1:14:31Speaker 11: Paul Phoenix number outside downfield is eighty one in the
- 1:14:37Speaker 11: middle more like sixty and liberated in the mediate's fifty five.
- 1:14:41Speaker 11: Heard it when he played six, They said that dn.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: You know, sounds like really good numbers to me. Sixty
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: sixty down the field.
- 1:14:50Speaker 11: And he can run down the field.
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: That sounds like a pretty good number to me.
- 1:14:55Speaker 11: Yeah, eighty one percent, But sixty.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: He was a suck.
- 1:15:00Speaker 11: He was the sucking behind that he should have won
- 1:15:02Speaker 11: the high He did more than late than Daniels did,
- 1:15:05Speaker 11: got his team in the championship and everything. So, like
- 1:15:08Speaker 11: I said, like I keep killing my boy Evans, Evan,
- 1:15:13Speaker 11: I take him any day over with Drake May and
- 1:15:15Speaker 11: Caleb Williams. Reason why May can't play that good against
- 1:15:19Speaker 11: a good team and he's not that accurate. You even
- 1:15:22Speaker 11: said it yourself. He's a model player. You got a groom.
- 1:15:24Speaker 11: Why you want to groom somebody when you got a
- 1:15:26Speaker 11: quarterback you can throw and run. I wouldn't groom him.
- 1:15:33Speaker 11: And william he just came out and told you a
- 1:15:36Speaker 11: while back before the right drafts talking about draft off
- 1:15:39Speaker 11: New England Chicago.
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: He will not play for I completely dismiss any of that.
- 1:15:45Speaker 11: Yes, and that's why I said, why would you want somebody?
- 1:15:48Speaker 11: I just don't want to come to your bra.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: You can't take Caleb Williams anyway, so it doesn't matter.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: I think that The thing.
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: The thing is is that you know Pennix. You if
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: you stack Penix's film from this year up again, he
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: has better film than every everybody, Like he's had the
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: best year out of anybody in the draft. But you're
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: not drafting based off of college production. Like that's how
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: they got mac Jones, is they drafted a guy that
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: had a high floor in there, you know in the
- 1:16:12Speaker 4: draft world, like high floor prospect that had really good
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: numbers in college and got his team to a national
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: championship and all that kind of stuff. But you should
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: be drafting the guy with the best physical tools the
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: best traits, and Drake May's traits are just better than Pennix's,
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: but there's more seasoning that needs to be done. But
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: that means he has a higher ceiling. So like you
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: can talk yourself into either direction. But I just think
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: with Pennix, like comparing his film from this year to
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: Drake May as his apples to oranges because he's throwing
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: to Roma Dunz and Polk and Marshall who's going to
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: be a first round pick next year, and he's behind
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: an offensive line who's left tackle is going to be
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: a top fifty pick like, and then at UNC, Drake
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: May has tes Walker and that's like pretty much it,
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: you know, in terms of NFL talent on that roster around.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: Him, and it isn't much of a runner by the way,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: It's just not.
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: A fair comparison. Like if you put Drake May and
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: Washington's offense and you put Pennis in Washington's offense, Okay,
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: then we'll see who's a better player. But right now,
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: the most the most rushing attempts he's had in the
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: season was thirty five. Like that's not South India, No,
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: that was with Washington.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: Yeah, the last two years. He had thirty five runs
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: last year and thirty two this year. Now that like,
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: I'm not going to give you the yards because that
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: in college they do it screwy and the sack total
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: counts as rushing for the quarterback. So like he had
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: thirty two, he had thirty two carries for thirteen yards
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: this year. But that's not indicative of when he runs.
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: He lost a lot of sack yardage, right, Yeah, but
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: I'm just talking about the attempts Like he's not you know, he's.
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: Much more of like a to like move, move off
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: the spot type of player. Yeah, and I think he
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: does move very well in the pocket.
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Todd's in North Carolina. Hey Todd, Hey guys.
- 1:17:58Speaker 12: I remember at the start of the year, and I
- 1:18:00Speaker 12: think it was on I read it on Bleach.
- 1:18:01Speaker 10: Report back in the day. It was like last February,
- 1:18:04Speaker 10: Craft came out and said that there's going to be
- 1:18:06Speaker 10: changes and this team is going to come and I
- 1:18:08Speaker 10: think he was promising the season ticket holders and the
- 1:18:11Speaker 10: fans in general that you know, we're going to do this.
- 1:18:13Speaker 10: How much of that will affect his final decision on
- 1:18:17Speaker 10: whether he keeps Spill or not, because I know you
- 1:18:18Speaker 10: guys are kind of some of you, not all of you,
- 1:18:20Speaker 10: but some of you waffled on whether Bill's going to
- 1:18:22Speaker 10: be back or nottff like that. So it's just curious
- 1:18:24Speaker 10: to think, if you know, will that project forward or
- 1:18:27Speaker 10: is this going to be just solely based on this
- 1:18:31Speaker 10: you know right here and now?
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: Well, well, I think that. I think it's the same mindset.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: We need to start winning, so, you know, whatever how
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: that manifests, whether it's Bill leaving or bringing in coaches
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: or spending money in free agency. I think there's a
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: sense of urgency with the craft. There's no doubt that
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: it hasn't gone away.
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: And that's set the president.
- 1:18:49Speaker 6: You know, like last year, it's like and that's why
- 1:18:51Speaker 6: we're talking about next week. It's like something has to
- 1:18:54Speaker 6: happen next week. If it's not, you know, a change
- 1:18:56Speaker 6: a head coach, it's another one of those messages of
- 1:18:58Speaker 6: you know, if they were to.
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: Keep BI, I think what they're willing and why they
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: would have to explain it. I think because you know
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: that's what they've established already.
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: Ye let's go to SPI and Fresnow what's up, speed spear?
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: Yeah, last day that you can say, happy new year
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: about that.
- 1:19:20Speaker 13: I'm sorry, thanks for letting me know the cap, No cap,
- 1:19:25Speaker 13: I had a have a question regarding the excuse me,
- 1:19:28Speaker 13: the mechanics of I guess what can happen with Bill?
- 1:19:31Speaker 13: And if Kraft finds willing trade partner, but say, like
- 1:19:36Speaker 13: Bill doesn't want to go there because let's hypothetically, maybe
- 1:19:41Speaker 13: it's the Lions or something. Because I assume that in
- 1:19:43Speaker 13: Bill's contract he has some right to refuse a trade.
- 1:19:46Speaker 13: So if he did, how like, how does that work?
- 1:19:49Speaker 12: Would he have to retire in order to get out of.
- 1:19:51Speaker 13: A trade arrangement or like that?
- 1:19:53Speaker 8: Craft?
- 1:19:54Speaker 13: Would that take?
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: Like craft?
- 1:19:55Speaker 13: He wouldn't have to pay Bill's salary if still retired
- 1:19:58Speaker 13: like that?
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: Then it gets messy. It gets messy because no matter what,
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: even if he retires, the Patriots would still have his rights.
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: So if he once he retires, pay his salary?
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: What?
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: No, if he retires, they don't have to pay his salary?
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: What's that?
- 1:20:16Speaker 13: I'm sorry? Would they have to pay his I think
- 1:20:18Speaker 13: it's twenty five million right that they'd o Bill on
- 1:20:20Speaker 13: his salary? So would they still have to pay that
- 1:20:21Speaker 13: if Bill retired to get out of a trade.
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: No, if he retired I don't think you have to
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: if you fire him, you do.
- 1:20:26Speaker 4: Can I ask a question?
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and I don't. I don't have the answer to this.
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: That'd be a bad lawyer. Are you allowed to trade
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: a coach if he doesn't want to go?
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: No?
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: No, I mean you can't force a guy to go somewhere.
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: But like I'm saying, like a player, you could force
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: a player. You can just trade him, right, and if
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: he doesn't go, he doesn't go, like you, he's cut
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: or whatever, there's a resolution. I don't think you can
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: just trade a coach. I don't either, unless the coach
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: wants to go somewhere else, right exactly.
- 1:20:53Speaker 13: That's confusing. And he's the GM too, so it makes
- 1:20:57Speaker 13: more confuted.
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't. I just don't think that Robert can
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: go to a bill and say, oh, by the way,
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: we've traded you to Detroit, right, I don't think you
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: can do They can't do that.
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: So what happens then he he's interested in going to
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: coach somebody else, like say Dallas or a Chargers, and
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: then they go and they work out some kind of
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: a compensation deal.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: We'll let him go. Yeah, we'll let him go. You
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: we know you want him to be your coach, Slade
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: us a second round pick and we'll call it a day.
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: I mean, that's how refuses with a cowboy. Well, he'd
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: be part of it, though, well, I mean I think
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: they're all part of it, you know, like they're all
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: negotiating that deal. Don't you want that it's not Robert
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: and just you know, Jerry Jones.
- 1:21:39Speaker 4: That would be ideal, you get.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: I mean, if you have any concerns or worries, you'd say, well,
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: we feel better about it if he was in the
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: other conference, that would be ideal.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: The fact that we haven't heard more of this because
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: every time, pretty much every time a team fires a coach,
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: there's time left on the contract and they have to pay.
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: This is true, they have to pay it. And the
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: fact that we haven't heard more of this type of
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: stuff means that it doesn't happen a lot, you know
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: what I mean? You know, you know what I mean,
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: where the team doesn't want the coach, they fire him
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: and then they get compensation from another team.
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: When there's a trade involving a coach, it's usually and
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: I think probably one hundred percent, the coach wants to
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: go somewhere else, right, Yeah, and says I'm not coming
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: back here. Oh you're not coming back here? Okay, well
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: you're still under contract for us. Oh, but I want
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: to go to Sean Payton.
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: More like Bill Belichick from the Jets to here.
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: In gruten going from Tampa to the Raiders. Yeah, I
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: just think I mean the Raiders. The example from some
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: people like the deeper question.
- 1:22:41Speaker 13: I was trying, I'm trying to figure out who has more.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: Power in the situation, and you're making BILLI Yes, I
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: think Bill has more power because of the money.
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:22:51Speaker 6: I also think we don't know what's in his contract,
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: And I mean Fred mentioned what was in the parcels contract,
- 1:22:55Speaker 6: and there's you know, probably stipulations in there that might
- 1:22:57Speaker 6: cover this kind of stuff that we don't.
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: The only thing, the money is the is the issue.
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: And I believe the report that says that he's under
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: contract for twenty four so that to me gives Bill
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: the leverage no matter what the contract.
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: I think Bill has all the leverage because he's it's
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: it's his. He's the guy, like he's the commodity, right,
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: And in this case, it's not like a player where
- 1:23:19Speaker 4: the league is in control of the player. The team
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: is in control of the player. Bill could retire, Bill
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: could go into TV, he could coach someplace else next year,
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: and the Patriots would have to facilitate it pretty much.
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: And there's no CBA for coaches, you know. CBA only
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: applies to players. They've tried to create a coaches association,
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: you know, a formal coaches association with their own thing,
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: but I don't think they've ever been able to do that.
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: He certainly wouldn't be a part of it if they did.
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: Yeah, there was a guy that used to be here
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: that headed that up. I forget his name.
- 1:23:50Speaker 13: Now, one more question on this line. So, like, let's
- 1:23:53Speaker 13: just say hypothetically Craft is only able to find the
- 1:23:56Speaker 13: Lions as a willing trade partner. Bill doesn't want to
- 1:23:59Speaker 13: do that, and Bill doesn't want to retire.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: What does he just sit for the year and they
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: have to fire him. That's that's the Patriots have to
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: fire him, and they have to pay him, right.
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: That's that's why Bill has the leverage in this situation,
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: is because that exact scenario.
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: Now now during that time, now, once they fire him
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: and and he's still under content, they're still paying him.
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: I think they still have his rights for that year
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: while they're paying So then like you know, if you
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: wanted to go to another team, I think the Patriots
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: could then ask for compensation so.
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: They fire him. No, I don't think so, right, well.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: They if they fire him, they still have to pay him.
- 1:24:35Speaker 4: Yeah, but I don't think that that means that they
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: have control over him.
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: They maybe if they fire him, they lose control of him,
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: but they would have to pay him.
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, that's why.
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: That's why, like you know, that's why the Patriots bring
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: back Joe Judge, Matt Patricia are those guys because they're
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: still getting paid by everybody.
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: But if he goes to Dallas, let's say, yeah, they
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: don't have to pay him anymore Dallas. No, Patriots don't
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: have to pay him.
- 1:24:57Speaker 4: No, no, if he goes to do if they fire him,
- 1:25:03Speaker 4: if they fire him, would yeah, if they fire him
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: and he goes to Dallas, they still have to pay him.
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: That's that's Matt Patricia.
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: No no, no, no, no, no no, because Matt Patricia
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: didn't take the same job if if Bill Belichick left
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: was fired.
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: They would probably be offset language right.
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: Potentially if he if yeah, if he was fired here
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: Patriots are playing him, but then he takes a job
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: with Dallas. Whatever Dallas is paying him comes off of
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: what the Patriots are paying him.
- 1:25:28Speaker 4: I believe that would be the case, right, But I
- 1:25:31Speaker 4: and they can you know, to Dallas. Like so this
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: is like, you know a lot of people say, Jerry
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: Jones doesn't pay can't They wouldn't be able to do that.
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: Jerry Jones doesn't pay coaches. The Chargers don't pay coaches. No, no, no, no,
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: But this is how those teams might be able to
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: do it.
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: Yeah. But see when like guys like Floyd Reese or
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: you know, Dean uh not Dan Pece, but dom Capers
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: came here, they were on contracts. We hire them at
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: a different position, and we don't give him a title.
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: We don't. But if the Dallas tried to get away
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: with that and say, oh, we're just gonna name him
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: you know there, the Patriots would then go to the
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: league and the league would have to get involved because
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: you know, they're not gonna the Patriots aren't gonna let
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: a team get away with saying, oh, we're paying him
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: a million bucks and you're still on the hook for
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: twenty four million but they could pay him ten Yeah,
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: I think I think even then the Patriots would think, I.
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: Mean, you can file a complaint, but what is their grounds?
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: They do the same thing all the.
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: Time because the league, the league would intercede, they would
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: mediate that.
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: I think it's difficult about it too, is that he's
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: technically getting paid for two jobs with the Patriots. Right,
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: So a team like Dallas could argue, well, we're just
- 1:26:44Speaker 4: paying him as the head coach because Jerry's the GM
- 1:26:46Speaker 4: and so we're not. He's not running personnel here like
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: he did in New England.
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: Yeah, so I could do that.
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the other complicated thing. But I think that
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: people that talk about it and say, well, the Chargers
- 1:26:57Speaker 4: and the Cowboys don't pay coaches, well, what if they
- 1:26:59Speaker 4: don't have to pay him his full boat?
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: Like?
- 1:27:01Speaker 4: What if the Patriots are still on the hook for
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: paying it?
- 1:27:05Speaker 6: Thanks to me, congratulations to Brock Purty, the leading vote
- 1:27:09Speaker 6: getter for the Pro Bowl Games.
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: Wow, Chris is in Maine? What's up, Chris? What happened
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: to Chick fil A?
- 1:27:18Speaker 4: We gotta take a break.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: I gotta go get it.
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: You forget?
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: Are you kidding me? You mean to tell me if
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: I said, we're gonna take a break. You could have
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: gone and got it. We'll take areak, We'll take a break, Chris,
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: I'm gonna put you one.
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: Take a break.
- 1:27:33Speaker 4: Wait till he gets back.
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: I'm sorry. Alright, go ahead, Chris, go ahead.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: I just get one from Matt too. Yeah.
- 1:27:42Speaker 12: I'm going to the game getting tickets for the game
- 1:27:44Speaker 12: on Sunday, and it's the first time I've been able
- 1:27:46Speaker 12: to get him for giel Atte. And I was wondering
- 1:27:49Speaker 12: with the parking situation. I've been to the Jets stadium
- 1:27:54Speaker 12: before parking passes. Is that the case for for Gilt.
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: Only for certain Uh? So you can find parking across
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: the street or at different lots, so you shouldn't have
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: a problem.
- 1:28:08Speaker 12: Okay, yeah, okay, all right.
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: Is that it, Chris?
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:28:13Speaker 12: Yeah, And I just want to say listening to you
- 1:28:15Speaker 12: for years and this is awesome.
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Drive, drive safe, leave early, or come the night
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: before and stayed out nearby hotel. Okay, all right, good,
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: all right, Chris, have a good.
- 1:28:29Speaker 4: Thanks, Chris, have a good time, Chris.
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: The coaching stuff I do find interesting, like all the
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: different ramifications. I just think that they would be best
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: for all concerned to just forget about all. I know
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: it's easy for me. It's easy because it's not my money.
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: But I think it would just you know, step aside
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: and say, right, thank you, thank you. What we did
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: was unprecedented. Let's just agree to move on and you know, you.
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: Do what you want to do and good luck. But
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: you get what I'm saying, though, I do. I do
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: get what you every time, every time a team, every time, no,
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: every time it's fires a coach, there's usually time left
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: on their contract that they're paying them. The fact that
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: we don't hear a lot more stuff like this tells
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: me that it just doesn't happen.
- 1:29:13Speaker 14: You know.
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: What doesn't happen.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: And usually for most.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: Guys that get fired or like either damaged commodities or
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: unwanted altogether, like BILLI the greatest coach has ever coached,
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: And if they decide to move on, he'll be different
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: than you know that there's an idea that people will
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: want him. Funny because who's who's knocking down Josh mcdaniels's door.
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: Well, like Pete Carroll went to USC right away, right
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: or did he take a.
- 1:29:44Speaker 4: Year after the Patriots?
- 1:29:48Speaker 14: No?
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: I don't think he went right to you. I think
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: he was the defensive coordinator in San Francisco.
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: That's where he was.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I don't know. I forget all right, do
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: you have that? It was a way I could look
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: at him.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: Well, how many Like the question is how many head
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: coaches got fired and immediately took another head coaching job.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: Oh, this is probably a fair amount of Bo's. So
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: he took a year off. I believe Andy Reid did
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: that from Philadelphia to Kansas City?
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: So, like, what what happened there? What transpired there?
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: You know, the Eagles fired him?
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: No, I know, but Eagles fired him. But did you
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: know the Eagles still have to keep paying him while
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: he was at Kansas City? How did that?
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:30:27Speaker 4: But it's funny because like Bill is like simultaneously, you know,
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: a lot of people in not us necessarily, but a
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: lot of people are running him out of town here.
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: And then he's also like number one on everybody's like
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: coaching candidates lists.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: You know, Like I'm consistent, I'm not sure that it's
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: a huge market for him, and I'm i am kind
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: of sort of ready for the end here, But I
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: wonder how much of that is Bill, Like, I don't
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: think we talk about that, you know, and I don't know,
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: but I think that there's all Do you think Bill
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: really really wants to be back here after going through
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: all of this?
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: Maybe he doesn't.
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: He maybe he wants out.
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: To I think there's a lot of the national media
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: not to pick on them, that aren't here every single day,
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: that haven't seen it a road the way that we have,
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: that aren't aware of the missteps by by Bill to
- 1:31:12Speaker 4: get to this point with the Patriots. I think a
- 1:31:14Speaker 4: lot of people look from the outside end and just
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: say it was one bad year, you know, and now
- 1:31:19Speaker 4: they're running the guy out of town, and they didn't
- 1:31:22Speaker 4: they haven't watched it kind of fall apart like we
- 1:31:24Speaker 4: all have. So his stock in terms of that, I
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: don't think is it taking that big of a hit
- 1:31:30Speaker 4: because I think people are just looking at it like, well,
- 1:31:32Speaker 4: Mac Jones just stinks and they have no quarterback and
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: he had one bad season.
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: I'm really upset with Deuce.
- 1:31:38Speaker 4: Uh yeah, me too.
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: I mean he knows that you don't get right away.
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: There's a risk that they run out.
- 1:31:44Speaker 4: There's a good show, you know, he's coming back with no.
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: They were giving it out at twelve thirty and here
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: it is one thirty and he hasn't gone.
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: You know what's coming back with cold? Well, it's one.
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: It's it can't possibly not be cold, right, like thinking, yeah,
- 1:31:58Speaker 4: that's that's what happens.
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: I put him in charge of launch on one day.
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: That's an error.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: So I will say, like just to to take the
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: national thing a step further, like you asked earlier when
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: Evan came back from practice, you know, any national guys
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: around and like, no, I'm not surprised because according to
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: the national people, there's nothing to see here, Like it's
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: ridiculous that you're even talking about this not I mean,
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: how many times have we gotten finger wagged by someone
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: in the national media because we're talking about the possibility
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: that built might not I mean, even in all these
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: ev Ian Rappaport reports, he's saying, like, you know, somehow,
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: like there's always some kind of language, you know. Incredibly,
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: despite despite all his success, like to Evan's point, people
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: just haven't been watching. And it goes back to the
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: end of Brady too, like it's remarkable that they won
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: the Super Bowl the last time and then it's remarkable
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: that they won twelve games the following year because the
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: roster erosion started long before this.
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: People really don't miss to that as well. That offensively,
- 1:33:03Speaker 4: at least Brady, Gronkowski and Edelman carried them to one
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: more Super Bowl and mostly Brady of course. And then
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: but that roster during the year, remember when they lost
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: those back to back games against Pittsburgh and Miami. We
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: thought it was over then, like not necessarily Bill fired,
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: but like just the dynasty in the run was maybe
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: over then after the Miami miracle and everything. Oh god,
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: what there was one left?
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: He has one?
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: He has two?
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: Two isn't doing it?
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: He's got four?
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: Wow?
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: Okay, okay, that was well done.
- 1:33:41Speaker 10: That it was.
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: It was kind of like you a Taylor Swift thing
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: that went right over my head.
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: I missed that.
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: All right, we're gonna take a quick break and then
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: we're gonna finish strong.

- 1:34:36Speaker 1: Bill Belichick spoke with the media this morning. Let's listen
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: to what he had to say.
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: Press of defensive stats in games and offensively. You know,
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: Hall and Wilson really been been targeted a lot, handled
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: the ball a lot. Both really really good players, and
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: I got a lot of the skill players too, and
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: the tight endss are as a so good. Yeah good
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: football team played really well against Washington obviously some earlier
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: in the year, but most recently against Washington that was
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: pretty impressive. Sirta Lion's having a good year. It's made
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: like twenty five in a row or something like that,
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: minus the one that was blocked. So Gibson explosive returner,
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: So well balanced team. That's yeah, got a lot of
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: a lot of good things going for It's a sugar
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: practice in media in the United States, kind of a
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: class Wednesday, kind of like last Wednesday. Yeah, we had
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: a few guys banged up here.
- 1:35:52Speaker 16: Did you ever manage a game in such a way though,
- 1:35:54Speaker 16: where those guys that are banged up, I was thinking
- 1:35:57Speaker 16: about the off season the next year for those guys
- 1:35:59Speaker 16: that you yes, that's.
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: Not play Uh yeah, I think I really understand the question.
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: See where the guys are going in the game, and
- 1:36:11Speaker 3: based on where they are in that game, talk to them,
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: talk to the medical people. And that's kind of what
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: it is.
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: And it's just given the season there's there are no
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: playoffs ahead.
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: You should come up exact players wanna play, practice, work
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: all year to play. They can play. I would not
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: play 'em. I think that's fair to the player. I
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: don't know, but you see it differently.
- 1:36:48Speaker 4: How do you feel growing up this season?
- 1:36:50Speaker 17: Just what is the job the offense.
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: Then builds an experience coach and in our system in football.
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: Just got a good, good background in a lot of
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: different areas and been helping really all positions offensively and
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: as well as you know, putting things together from a
- 1:37:10Speaker 3: big picture standpoint.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: Have you seen his helmet?
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: You seen that?
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: Roland was appy, you know, and a good.
- 1:37:20Speaker 4: As he said, the start up up all to get
- 1:37:23Speaker 4: better and it's not do you get down a part
- 1:37:25Speaker 4: of Bill?
- 1:37:26Speaker 7: Sure?
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: Yeah, the builders goes out with the quarterbacks. I think
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: he prepares them well.
- 1:37:32Speaker 9: Just following up on Bill O'Brien for a moment yesterday
- 1:37:34Speaker 9: he talked about the inconsistency of the offense shouldered some
- 1:37:38Speaker 9: of the blame for that. Wondering from your perspective for
- 1:37:40Speaker 9: the team this year with the performance in general, is
- 1:37:43Speaker 9: that more.
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: On the coaches? Is it on the players?
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: A bit of both? Yeah? Right now, just really looking
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: to put our I guess the best game out there
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: against the Jets and look back this season after the season.
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: Have you had any conversation with Robert Kraft this week about.
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: Your future with the team?
- 1:38:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm looking forward to working getting ready for the
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: Jets here.
- 1:38:07Speaker 18: You your team gotta liminated from the playoffs, but they
- 1:38:10Speaker 18: have played twelve since Really on defense is there are
- 1:38:15Speaker 18: you particularly proud and how they've ser of responded and
- 1:38:19Speaker 18: how they've followed your leadership the second half of the season.
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: Here, guys, these guys are coming to work pretty hard
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: every week. You like, think Tyr the junior, if we
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: go today, do you play on aggravating him?
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: And so.
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: Now that's zappy, he's gotten a few starts. Have you
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: seen him grown more comfortable in.
- 1:38:43Speaker 18: The role and have you seen him now that he's
- 1:38:45Speaker 18: had a few opportunities?
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, Yeah, definitely. The experience is is always good
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: for a young player. But each week's different. So what
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: the Jets do and how they play the Jets is
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: different than last week or the week before that, a
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: week before that. So yeah, there's some carry over, some learning,
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: but there's also new new things each week.
- 1:39:06Speaker 14: Now do you start thinking at all about whether he
- 1:39:10Speaker 14: could be your guy next year or or when you
- 1:39:14Speaker 14: start evaluating now who might be good quarterback.
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: Who Yeah, just a weak team and right now we're
- 1:39:21Speaker 3: getting ready for the Jets. Brown the backness today. Uh yeah,
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: I don't think he's on the injury report, which.
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: I know you're not big in the individual's stats, but
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: Mario Douglas has the most catches and receiving yards for
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: a wide out in your tenure. How can you speak
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: to his growth throughout the season and what you've seen
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: from him.
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll sound a good job of you know, observering
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: different roles offensively, different positions, different roles, different type plays. Uh,
- 1:39:53Speaker 3: also some of the return game. But he's a smart kid,
- 1:39:56Speaker 3: works hard, pretty instinctive player. So we've been able to
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: uh do some things with him in a variety of
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: things with them.
- 1:40:05Speaker 4: Have you seen teams try to defend him differently over
- 1:40:08Speaker 4: the last month or so now that.
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: He has to do with a worset apples? Yeah, you'd
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: have to talk to those teams about how they game
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: planned it or didn't game plan it. Yeah. I wouldn't
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: say I've seen any anything that specifically targets him, but
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: maybe maybe within a call they didn't. I don't know
- 1:40:30Speaker 3: if they have.
- 1:40:31Speaker 16: Some Billy drop up the Jets past you've got a
- 1:40:39Speaker 16: lot of young line that you have to play dot
- 1:40:41Speaker 16: sas so bop the modes and require the too preen
- 1:40:46Speaker 16: in seven season and you can get Andrews out collective
- 1:40:50Speaker 16: BA collectively individually. Uh how has that group of players.
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: For the Beasts?
- 1:40:57Speaker 13: Uh?
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: An adaptism under fire? There'll be more this week. So
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: these guys are really good. They play a lot of
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: different spots, so they you know, always matched up against
- 1:41:07Speaker 3: the same guy a block of different players. They are
- 1:41:11Speaker 3: good or they rusted passer as well as any team
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: we've played. So with multiple guys, you've got a lot
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: of guys to stop. So those guys learn every week
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: and the young players to get experience. That experience teach
- 1:41:25Speaker 3: some things and hopefully pay off in the long run.
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: Uh Juju Smith Schuster went on to Hiro last week.
- 1:41:33Speaker 18: Obviously, I don't think his production has been what anyone
- 1:41:37Speaker 18: would expect or thought it would be.
- 1:41:38Speaker 4: Just what what do you think happened with him this season?
- 1:41:42Speaker 4: How would you describe this season?
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: Yeah, well he won't play in this game, so just
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: worry about this game.
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: Well, I think I've.
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: Had three players start team hile gotcham there's just thought gunshop.
- 1:42:00Speaker 11: What do you fans much.
- 1:42:02Speaker 3: I think that has a specially soft rock.
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: Uh, DJ's had a good year, really professional player pair
- 1:42:09Speaker 3: as well. Every week. That's a really good job understanding
- 1:42:12Speaker 3: blocking schemes. So he was playing against how different teams
- 1:42:15Speaker 3: want to run the ball. Even though it might be
- 1:42:17Speaker 3: the sort of the same blocks, there's sometimes different subtleties
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: in that, and and who the backs are, how they
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: like to run. So he's really good with the other
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: guys that he plays with in terms of, you know,
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: helping them understand how the runs are gonna get fit
- 1:42:31Speaker 3: and so forth. So they's then a good job, had
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: a good year.
- 1:42:36Speaker 4: What if you see him like when you just the
- 1:42:38Speaker 4: chance of fresh I mean, hasn't.
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: Expressed that you have any talks.
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not gonna get in any contract discussions.
- 1:42:50Speaker 11: Witness you see just a trick that you still.
- 1:42:55Speaker 3: Yeh start of the air guard then Uh we talked
- 1:42:58Speaker 3: after the Las Vegas game and uh started playing a
- 1:43:01Speaker 3: tackle and he's really embraced that. And think he's had
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: a pretty good year out there. You know, it's not
- 1:43:09Speaker 3: totally new for him. He's been out there before, but
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: you've seen a lot of good players and they have
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: done a pretty solid job and we'll see more this week.
- 1:43:17Speaker 3: So on the week, multiple guys out there that he'll
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: face that you know are all good Franklin Myers, McDonald, Johnson,
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: ugh and so we've got a lot of good rushers.
- 1:43:32Speaker 18: We're trying this season been offensive tackle with four guys
- 1:43:35Speaker 18: on the gser moving.
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: Pieces all the.
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: Yeah, that's not the way we thought it would happen
- 1:43:43Speaker 3: when we acquired some of the guys at the beginning
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: of the year and then more. But that is what
- 1:43:47Speaker 3: it is.
- 1:43:49Speaker 11: The fact that this is.
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: At the final week of the season.
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: What what's your message been to the the team?
- 1:43:54Speaker 18: Just to keep him locked in with no playoff implications
- 1:43:57Speaker 18: going into this week.
- 1:43:59Speaker 3: Same as as every Really, so he's about the Jets.
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: Last week's about Buffalo. Week before that was about Denver.
- 1:44:12Speaker 3: Uh any love lost for the Jets. I had a
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: lot of respect for what coach the Law's done put
- 1:44:21Speaker 3: together pred team down there.
- 1:44:26Speaker 17: Really, When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes,
- 1:44:30Speaker 17: oh no, replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture
- 1:44:34Speaker 17: proof of delivery, everyone could focus on the perfect opening
- 1:44:37Speaker 17: night FedEx where now it's next for residential delivery.
- 1:44:41Speaker 4: Only And now great moments in.
- 1:44:47Speaker 3: History.
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: So in sinc is playing at the old Stadium and like,
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: my wife is going to taking my nieces and stuff.
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: The webmaster, who Rick rick Aames, He took this piece
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: the cardboard and somehow like I bought this wire and
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: it was like honk if you love in sync, but.
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: He kept it. He rigged it up in such a
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: way that Paul wouldn't see it when he got in
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: his car. But once he started driving it down.
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: So and everyone's and I'm meeting bet at like Papa
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: Gino's and like everybody's beeping and I'm like what.
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: I'm like, I'm driving like ten miles.
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: Hey, ass man, exactly, you got that right. I looked
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: at it. I was like, oh, that's that's just too perfect. Everybody,
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: every single person in the building knew about it, and
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: they all like were what And they couldn't wait for
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: me to get back because I was going down to
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: meet Bath and my nieces and I was coming back
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: and they were like, ida.
- 1:45:41Speaker 4: Go, that's another great moment from.
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: All right back here in Patriots Unfiltered A five five
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: past five hundred is the ace ticket hotline. Deuce did
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: pull through.
- 1:45:52Speaker 4: Good job, Deuce, he got the last four.
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: Chick fil A sandwiches spicy w were they called?
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah spicy? The Lucker room opened.
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: Ryan A Situate writes in a few days late at
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: this point, but after the Lions Cowboys games, I tuned
- 1:46:10Speaker 2: into a Lions postgame show from their official YouTube, remember
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: whoever it was on. The show was bashing the officials
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: and sing that the rest took away their chance to
- 1:46:19Speaker 2: win the game, regardless of if he was right and
- 1:46:22Speaker 2: the officials blew the call. I wanted to give you
- 1:46:24Speaker 2: guys credit for the job you do and your professionalism,
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: other than Paul's vehement hatred toward the officials no matter
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: what the team is. I have never really accurate. I
- 1:46:34Speaker 2: have never really heard you guys make the refs out
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: to be the reason for Patriots loss.
- 1:46:39Speaker 4: Oh so, I don't know if you guys saw, but
- 1:46:41Speaker 4: the league sent out a video yesterday to all teams
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: about what happened, and they they put it on the Lions.
- 1:46:49Speaker 4: They were like, this is your fault. That yeah, so
- 1:46:53Speaker 4: apparently they they slowed it down and frame by frame
- 1:46:57Speaker 4: and showed Dan Skipper like doing something to his chest
- 1:47:01Speaker 4: that would like signify that he was reporting as eligible,
- 1:47:04Speaker 4: and basically they said they try to pull a fast
- 1:47:06Speaker 4: one on everybody, including the officials, and they that's why
- 1:47:10Speaker 4: this was confusing.
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with that part of it.
- 1:47:13Speaker 4: I just think does the bruda from me didn't agree
- 1:47:16Speaker 4: with that.
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: That was embarrassing.
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: It's course directed.
- 1:47:19Speaker 2: I heard Ben and Tucson writes in I don't believe
- 1:47:22Speaker 2: Josh Allen is long for this league. He clearly thinks
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: he's indestructible and eventually it's going to catch up to him.
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: That final drive of the game, he gets the first down,
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: just slide and the game is over. Instead, he just
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: he gets drilled into the ground and comes up lame.
- 1:47:36Speaker 2: He looks to pitch the ball for no reason and
- 1:47:39Speaker 2: takes a shot to the head and loses the ball. Paul,
- 1:47:41Speaker 2: I completely disagree. I would not want him on this team. Whoever,
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: I love your references.
- 1:47:48Speaker 4: For that last part is at he like in like
- 1:47:50Speaker 4: year seven, like how like he's not long for this league.
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: He's already been in the league for to get a decade.
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: How much more do you want him to be in
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: the league? Fact, Chat, it was third and three, you
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: got four yards? Yeah, you slide there and you might
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: not get the first down. And I'm not lying.
- 1:48:13Speaker 4: You get credit when you start the slide start.
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: That's where the referee spots the ball.
- 1:48:17Speaker 4: I say, if they spot it correctly, right, yes?
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: And how many times do you look and you say, oh,
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: he easily got the first down and then nope, the
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: slide started here before he got it. He got the
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: first down by your yard, Like, if you want to
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: end the game, that's what you need to do. Yeah, Like,
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: that's one of the times that I would actually say,
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: that's when I need you to run.
- 1:48:37Speaker 4: That's when I need you to be superman. You get
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: a first down, the game's over, you know what I mean.
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I just feel like it's the one with the
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: wild reach of the ball on a random third down
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: early in the fourth quarter.
- 1:48:49Speaker 4: And I get it, like from a fan perspective, but
- 1:48:51Speaker 4: I just feel like Patriots fans, I'm sorry to like
- 1:48:54Speaker 4: put you all together, but I feel like a lot
- 1:48:56Speaker 4: of Patriots fans just want him to fail because he's
- 1:48:58Speaker 4: on the bills and it's in the division that kind
- 1:49:00Speaker 4: of stuff. So everybody always, oh, he's gonna get hurt. Eventually,
- 1:49:03Speaker 4: he's gonna get hurt eventually. He has yet to get
- 1:49:05Speaker 4: hurt or in year seven and he's still running around
- 1:49:08Speaker 4: and he's still lowering his shoulder into people. And yeah,
- 1:49:10Speaker 4: maybe he won't play for twenty years like Brady did,
- 1:49:13Speaker 4: but I'm sure the Bills will take a decade of
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: Josh Allen just fine.
- 1:49:17Speaker 6: Yeah, who you guys rooting for him and the tu
- 1:49:19Speaker 6: him versus the Dolphins this weekend, it's a big matchup.
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: I'm rooting for Buffalo because that would be good for
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: both of them, and I like, I kind of want
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: someone new, like I don't I'm going to root against
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: Kansas City more than likely, even though I respect the
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: hell out of him.
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: If you want someone new, wouldn't you root from Miami?
- 1:49:38Speaker 4: Yeah? Well no, but I mean that will give me
- 1:49:40Speaker 4: two chances for someone new, Buffalo and Miami.
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: Because they but what do they both get in if
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: if if Buffalo will, yeah they I mean, Buffalo would
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: be the division champ, but Miami would still be eleven
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: and six, and you know they both be eleven and six,
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: and I'd like that. Whereas if Buffalo loses, then they
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: have to they need help. They need like Jacksonville to
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: lose or Pittsburgh to lose.
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: Just to get in the fact that Pittsburgh is even
- 1:50:04Speaker 4: in this conversations.
- 1:50:05Speaker 2: Well, well, we'll get to our picks tomorrow. Jay in
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: Minnesota writes in this weekend has me nervous with all
- 1:50:12Speaker 2: the uncertainty with Bill and the team. I also can't
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: wait till the draft. I need to see what we
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: do this year in the off season. Question, knowing what
- 1:50:20Speaker 2: you know about Bill, what do you think the odds
- 1:50:23Speaker 2: are that Bill is willing to mutually part ways? And
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: if he isn't, how much do you truly think he's worth,
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: especially him being behind the times on the offensive side
- 1:50:31Speaker 2: of the ball. What would you be willing to take
- 1:50:33Speaker 2: for him? Or what do you think his trade value is?
- 1:50:36Speaker 2: Or do you think the Craft is willing to pay
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: him out for all he's done for the organization. I
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: wasn't prepared. I was prepared to move on from Bill,
- 1:50:43Speaker 2: but listening the past couple of weeks, I wouldn't be
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: surprised if Kraft runs it back the trade thing we
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: already talked about.
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: I'm not expecting any trade compensation.
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: I do wonder if there is a Brady situation. I
- 1:50:58Speaker 4: know it's not completely insane, where instead of trying to
- 1:51:02Speaker 4: go through this whole negotiation with the trade they do.
- 1:51:05Speaker 4: Just say you've earned your freedom, Like if you don't
- 1:51:07Speaker 4: want to be here, then.
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: I would applaud that, just like I applauded it with Brady.
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: And I know a lot of people don't see it
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: that way, but I think that's the right thing to
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: do me too.
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: I never held it against the Crafts that Tom was,
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: you know, not franchised like he was just any other quarterback.
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: You know, right, no need.
- 1:51:27Speaker 4: He deserved that absolutely, and Bill does too.
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: I agree.
- 1:51:32Speaker 2: Let's see longino O Gino from New Jersey. I just
- 1:51:38Speaker 2: want to say that, even though it'll suck if when
- 1:51:41Speaker 2: Bill Belichick leaves, if he comes back this year, I'm
- 1:51:43Speaker 2: having trouble believing he's going to coach up the next
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: quarterback with his mindset. What's to stop him from continuing
- 1:51:49Speaker 2: to build this team the way he did these past
- 1:51:52Speaker 2: four years.
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: Robert Craft, that's a concern, that's yeah, And it's not
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: necessarily personnel wise, it's it's coaching wise. That's my concern.
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: Like you can give someone else the keys to the shop,
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: but if he's coaching in the way that they coach.
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: And I think I told the story, Yes, It really
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: made me laugh. The first question of the press conference
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: on Monday was about the kickoff return, and he went
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: into great detail with you know, the Pharaoh Brown and
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: this guy kickout blocks and mac Wilson picked that guy.
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: Slater got this guy. Great job by Rager. He broke
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: down with like six different people did. Then the second
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: question was Christian Barmore has been playing great? Was a
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: little quieter in this game. Did you notice any extra
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: attention that Buffalo may have been given. I'd have to
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: watch the film Like that to me symbolized exactly why
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: I want to move on. Well, he could give he
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: could give you a chapter and verse on a special
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: team's play.
- 1:52:54Speaker 2: He knows though he knows everything, he just doesn't want
- 1:52:56Speaker 2: to talk about it.
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: It was, you know, is that Bill would have come
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: back and they were to draft a quarterback. Missed my point,
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: but that's okay.
- 1:53:02Speaker 6: There's a good chance that Bill's not staying through that
- 1:53:04Speaker 6: quarterback's career here, right Like I mean, I mean he
- 1:53:06Speaker 6: could he could very well retire early. And I mean
- 1:53:08Speaker 6: even if he look, you're here as long as you want.
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: Like, if the quarterback works out, there's no way he's
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: going to be just for his career.
- 1:53:14Speaker 2: Right Jason and Vermont. It is fascinating that with all
- 1:53:19Speaker 2: the people on this planet, the NFL can't find thirty
- 1:53:22Speaker 2: two qualified candidates to play quarterback. The drop off from
- 1:53:25Speaker 2: the best to the worst is significant. Week after weeks,
- 1:53:28Speaker 2: some pretty poor quarterback performances are seen in the NFL.
- 1:53:31Speaker 2: I wanted to know if you could talk about why
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: there is no better way to rate the quarterback talent
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: coming out of college. Why does it have to be
- 1:53:38Speaker 2: such a crapshoot. There are guys drafted in the first
- 1:53:41Speaker 2: round that end up being terrible and guys drafted in
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: the later rounds that end up being great. Do you
- 1:53:45Speaker 2: know how much psychological testing is involved?
- 1:53:48Speaker 4: I mean, this question gets to the heart of the matter.
- 1:53:51Speaker 6: Like I think this is what's great about football is
- 1:53:52Speaker 6: and it's so hard, Like there's no way that you
- 1:53:55Speaker 6: could accurately predict every single guy.
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: And that's what makes it so much fun that you
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: know a guy like Brady or Purty, or you know
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: a top overall pick like Man, Like it runs the gamut.
- 1:54:04Speaker 6: That's what I love about the game. And you never
- 1:54:06Speaker 6: you can't just put it into a formula and be
- 1:54:08Speaker 6: like all right, these are the guys we have to
- 1:54:09Speaker 6: select because this is what the formula says, and this
- 1:54:11Speaker 6: is you.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: Know, going to be accurate. That's no fun.
- 1:54:13Speaker 4: I just think a lot of it is is so
- 1:54:15Speaker 4: much nature versus nurture. Like so Rock Party works out,
- 1:54:20Speaker 4: you all know how I feel about that.
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: Like that, like.
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: Rock Party was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals, no one
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: will be talking about him as a seventh round hit.
- 1:54:28Speaker 4: Correct.
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: I totally get your point.
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: Right, So, like that's that you draft these quarterbacks at
- 1:54:33Speaker 4: the top of the first round. They're getting drafted by
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: teams that all suck. So like if you're getting drafted
- 1:54:39Speaker 4: Zack Wilson gets drafted by the Jets, who stink, and
- 1:54:42Speaker 4: then he stinks like shot, Like that's not surprising, Like
- 1:54:45Speaker 4: Justin Fields goes to the Bears who stink and he stinks.
- 1:54:48Speaker 4: So like that, A lot of it, I think is
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: is not just about the physical talent or ability of
- 1:54:55Speaker 4: the quarterback. It's more about the situation that that quarterback
- 1:54:59Speaker 4: is getting dropped into. Not always, but I think a
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: lot of the time that ends up being the case.
- 1:55:04Speaker 4: And that's why a Brock Purty can succeed where Zach
- 1:55:08Speaker 4: Wilson can even if Zach Wilson came into the league
- 1:55:11Speaker 4: as a highly touted prospect. It's just all about situation.
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Can I also say that, And I don't. I
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: don't have all the numbers broken down, but I bet
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: if you did a really in depth, researched draft analysis
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: that you'd find just as many of the example that
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: you're talking about with the quarterback early in late like
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: just as many Michael when U sixth round pick, Cole
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: Straams first round pick, Yeah, guard, Like, I don't think
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: that's I don't think that's just like reserved for quarterbacks.
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: They miss.
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: Sometimes sometimes really good players go late in the draft,
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: and sometimes really bad players are picked early in the draft.
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: The bottom line is, more often than not, the guys
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: that go in the first round are better players than
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: the guys that go in the seventh round. Like it's
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: just the way it is. But they're always except Yeah,
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: And I don't think that's just resigned just quarterbacks only.
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: There's like four quarterbacks that are any good in the
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: league that were drafted after the second after the first
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: round was over.
- 1:56:11Speaker 2: Chad writes in from Atlanta, When did you all realize
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: that the season was over. I gave the nod after
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: Christian Dezals left the Cowboys game. So unfortunate that we're
- 1:56:20Speaker 2: at this point, but as Bill says, it is what
- 1:56:22Speaker 2: it is. We're onto the draft and PS still needing
- 1:56:24Speaker 2: an update on my shirt. No rush Chad in Atlanta,
- 1:56:28Speaker 2: MA get so much you guys? Do you guys have
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: I think we got us?
- 1:56:31Speaker 6: I said, I said the Saints. I mean, I understand
- 1:56:33Speaker 6: like the Cowboys game, but I was willing to say
- 1:56:35Speaker 6: one mulligan, one mulligan, and.
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: I thought they were going to start the season oh
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: and four, and then Aaron Rodgers got hurt, so there
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: were one and three. So I was like, Okay, this
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: is kind of what I expected. But then I didn't
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: expect to get shut out by by the Saints. I mean,
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: that's that says it all to me.
- 1:56:52Speaker 4: Yeah at home, Yeah that was that was And in hindsight,
- 1:56:56Speaker 4: then also going on the road and losing to the Raiders,
- 1:56:59Speaker 4: who hated their coach that right, and then also had
- 1:57:03Speaker 4: Brian Hoyer playing quarterback for the entire second half of
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: that game and they could have another good point, like
- 1:57:08Speaker 4: you know, that was the first sign of like, oh man,
- 1:57:10Speaker 4: we're not even gonna beat the backups, correct, because they
- 1:57:12Speaker 4: could have. You could have talked yourself into Washington, Vegas
- 1:57:15Speaker 4: command colts in Germany like in stacking some wins together
- 1:57:20Speaker 4: to get back into a five hundred territory by the
- 1:57:23Speaker 4: second half of the season. Uh, the path was was
- 1:57:27Speaker 4: there and theory. But then once they lost to the
- 1:57:29Speaker 4: Raiders and they couldn't even beat a Raiders, the path Yeah.
