- 0:11[SPEAKER_02]: Holy cow, welcome in.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_02]: Susan's on the side podcast, a historic day on historic day here at the Venerable Cotton Bowl.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_02]: And we are here to break it out of that ride Chapman.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_02]: Carsonfield, Brady Tranth, the Brian Aver, a result that none of us expected.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think, Susan's on the side was like many across the country.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_02]: None of us picked up the home of the win.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about it all week as far as the very, narrow path it would take for the suitors to pull off a victory today.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_02]: Did they win the rushing battle?
- 0:38[SPEAKER_02]: No, but they did just about everything else.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_02]: or numbers, defenses touchdowns, special teams touchdowns, a big moment, a couple of big moments in drama tier takesandell, and bobs your uncle, Oklahoma Staps, it's loses treat to Texas 27, 24, the suitors ran supreme and notched their first win over an AP number one ranked team since Missouri in the 2007 big 12 championship game.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_02]: Gentlemen, let's start here, I don't mean to do this Ryan to you.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_02]: But you've covered board these games and the rest of us probably can find where did this rate as far as we talk about the time, remember for hijinks, shock, all that stuff, where did this would rate as far as craziness, shock, intrigue, all of the things.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, it's really high.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, the four over time game was right up there, you know, Caleb Williams and all of that magic there.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_03]: But as far as just a stunning result, this is at the top of the list.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_03]: You know, for, for, oh, he's offense to be really dead in the water for, for the last few weeks.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody had written them off and it seemed like there was little belief outside of that locker room that Oklahoma had a chance to come in and win this game.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_03]: But we talked about the, the narrow path for the Senators and it was,
- 2:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, they often didn't have to be great, but avoid turnovers, they had to get some big plays on special teams, which they did.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_03]: They had to play excellent defense, which they did, and create turnovers, and defensive scores there.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_03]: They did all of it, and the results is 27 to 24 Oklahoma over Texas.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: pretty heavily because it will get to your part of this here in a second because you were obviously in the mixer in the emotion, the cauldron, but Brady is the three of us were sitting up in the press box while poor Carson melted on the field.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: There were many, many moments I think maybe
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: The first one was just the fact that Oklahoma shanks the third pun to the game, Texas gets the ball in the plus 41, and you saw a CSR Keaton who had played it pretty conservative at that point, finally took the shot down field, you get Cam Coleman, get the best interest in hands, plus potentially a safety bus, and there you go.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: hold on for dear lives, then the pump block happens.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: Danny Aquay breaks through to code of fields, falls on it, and then it's kind of back and forth.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: And I kind of go to that final salvo in the first half, Brady.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma's office had finally gotten something going on the moment, nine and a half minutes left in the third or a second quarter, excuse me, pick up their first first down, via Tory Blay, like kind of get going a little bit.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: Tate said that misses the field goal, Texas comes back,
- 3:21[SPEAKER_02]: It looks like they have the chance to go up twenty-one to seven.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: Instead, Oklahoma's defense holds, holds into a field goal, and you're going, okay, the suitors are teetering for dear life, but they've got a shot, and then is the second half unfolded, Oklahoma wants to take some days of that, but it's kind of incredible.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_02]: The suitors had a narrow path, and they walked that tightrope in the frame.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't like you, and they can't, it's like exactly what you want to do there.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_02]: They were teetering it.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and look, we see this in sports, college football, NFL basketball, it doesn't matter.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: When the better team and that would be the Texas long horns, they're the number one team in the country, they're the more talented team, oh you fans would probably grind their teeth and admit it coming into this game.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: But when the better team allows the lesser team to believe long, longer, longer into the football game,
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's when you see the lesser teams start to overexcute.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's when you see a quarterback like John Matier, who, in that first quarter guys, we talked about it on the rap, he looked like the same guy other than the soul-sucking turnovers.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: He looked like the same guy that played Naphthens just contained near had a soul-sucking turnovers.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just had no idea where he was in the pocket, had no idea where the pressure was.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the first drive, Colin Simmons gets a strip sack and Ryan Foges,
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: from that potential a soul so I can turn over, but the longer that the game went along and like you said, Ryan, when the defense held Texas to a field, they'll only keep it at 17-7 going to halftime.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: Brad Pittville said that coming off the field, that, yeah, this is I like the fight in the team.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: This is going to be a fourth quarter battle and he was a profit and he could see it.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think we could all kind of feel it in a press box car, so he probably felt a little bit the same way.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: Texas should be
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: In more control of this game they should be firmly controlled this game despite Oklahoma kind of punch you could But it's quite even offensively and when I only say that because they didn't turn the football over in this this game is a testament to the OU fans who who have cried for just just be average offense just be average don't turn the football over
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: And look what you can do with this defense.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: And now when you got special team scoring a touchdown, I mean, the world's your oyster Oklahoma.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the first time they've been able to be at a number one ranked team.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: You said since 2007, the first time that they've ever beaten and number one ranked team as an unranked team, themselves in school history, it's just incredible.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: And they had to do it in the manner that they did it.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: Special team touchdown.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: defensive touchdown and hey, they got a rushing touchdown the first time since a u-tap but they're only rushing touchdown of the year and I mean not to like jump over anything but I mean you said like they don't you win the rushing battle in this game.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: No, they didn't they did win the
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: The terms of wood of art being the gain leader in rushing yards with 72 and you talked about it on that drive with Tori Blaylock It moving the ball down field and the offense kind of finding some momentum with the run game It wasn't pretty it wasn't explosive, but it was just enough to relinquish the pressure Ben Arbuckle would then have to thrust on John Meteer of okay We can kind of run the ball now.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: We don't have to ask John Meteer to do every single thing and that's what happens when you could average three four
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: It was incredible and this I feel so happy to be able to come in and for how many podcasts it's here have we been like Carson United the defense was great didn't matter We're gonna talk all about the offense and the defense.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_02]: They did the damn thing today Whether it be certainly Peyton Bowen's pick six that came in the right time Quarterly gillery with you want to talk about store lounges in her addiction He's like welcome to college.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: Well, welcome to the SEC moment was Cam Coleman and Auburn and everything that happened Portland gillery gets the laugh last last half here, but
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: Carson, for you on the field that everyone who is been to this game and been a part of this game knows this.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_02]: And if you've been to one of the OU Texas in a year where one team is maybe not in Vegas, heavily favored, but the vibes are fully the corner one families.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: It becomes a very special atmosphere, I think, because
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: Was there some orange splattered out throughout the OUN maybe a little bit more than usual?
- 7:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so it wasn't like overwhelmed by any means, but the fans that make their way into this stadium, it becomes this beacon of positivity.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_02]: Because,
- 7:25[SPEAKER_02]: If your team starts to lose, or if it's like, well, this is how it's expected, here's what happens.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: The fans will stick around the boot.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: They just leap, right?
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: That you hit the fair and you get to hell out of Dallas and get off fair park.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to get screamed at by, oh, you've fans to know you've, or text fans to the textbook out.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: And these fans held in there.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_02]: The offense was not good in the first quarter, right?
- 7:46[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, but
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: Texas Opens outside the one plate was not good either.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_02]: When did you start to sense on the field Carson that this was not just like okay we're hanging on them and this was actually turning into an Oklahoma party here in the south into the cotton ball.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I think it really started early in the third quarter in the defense really stood up like we talked about only 10 point difference at half time in it though a whole heck of a lot bigger than that the vibes were significantly lower than they were
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, I'll use a head-but-one point at that time, but I mean, it just seemed like this team should be losing by a lot more.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: Texas comes out there often.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's can't do much because of the big plays from David Stone, Kit Lewis, Reggie Powers, Named Your Defensive Player out there.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: And that really generated a lot of positivity.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: I noticed on the sideline, Kit Lewis, being the usual vocal leader that he is hyping up the team, watching other guys raping a chair at one point.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: No, he's always he was on another level tonight, and I think that just comes with the territory of this game But I mean it just built up and built up with every big play whether it's the wood a bot touchdown the pick six from Bowen that pick from Hilary It just kept building in
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: Admittedly, last year was my first experience here at the Cotton Bowl, and because Texas did take control of that game, there were a whole lot of swings that would use offense couldn't do anything.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: It really didn't, for me, live up to the hype, but this is what you want the momentum swings, one size of that, all of a sudden, the others about the next second.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was truly a magical game, um, crazy atmosphere.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: It was one of those where this is finally what I think Brett Reynolds is waiting on for, just the offense, to just hold it to even when you're bad, hold it together, which is what they did in the first quarter, it got better and better because you look at urges performance.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: 19 for 31, 2 picks, 260 yards, other 2 to 60 yards, 42 of it came on that touchdown at Kim Coleman, which again,
- 9:45[SPEAKER_02]: Tristan Haynes, so I felt so bad because he was starting in place of Eli Bowen.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_02]: He was awesome on that first drive, in the past break up.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: The second drive, there were two different places that they ran the ball at Tristan Haynes.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_02]: He did a great job to hold the edge, penetrate, make sure that Oklahoma was in a spot where they could push the ball back to the middle of the defensive rally and they did.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_02]: Then that third plant, I don't know, looking back at it.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: I still think that maybe there was a busted coverage.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if it was that a safety should have been there, but Tristan Haynes certainly
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: And it looked like they were three, they should have been at safety.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and so I felt really, really bad for him.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: You get the second Texas touchdown was the Wingo 34-yard connection other than that.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma didn't really good job defensively biling this thing up.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: And I'd like to extend that to the special teams as well guys.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_02]: How many times?
- 10:29[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we all remember a year ago.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: It was was there blocking the back to the SEC eventually told Brent Minimals, you guys, that was wrong.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, absolutely.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: But Niblet and what he's able to do is a returner, Ryan.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: This was as good at kick coverage as you'll see.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: You had, you had Ben Anderson get down there, get it on the fund, you had baby choice get down there, get it on the fund.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_02]: It was a full team affair on special teams, just about a niblet up who had five opportunities at it, only 16 returning arts and most of the time you just get them swallowed up and punished.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he absolutely was, it was a little bit of a rough day for him down there, but that's exactly what Oklahoma needed.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_03]: And exactly the identity that this special teams group has developed for the most part over the last couple of years, except for that game last year and the last couple of weeks.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_03]: where they really struggled, but they came up big today, you know, obviously the the punt block there, but heck, one of the biggest plays was a play where nobody even touched the ball, which was the punt that bounced out of bounds, wasn't a great punt, but you get a little skirmish over there, could we just pick up a chance?
- 11:41[SPEAKER_03]: It's been a show where this is we had an epic
- 11:46[SPEAKER_03]: You know, Ryan, we talked about it before the game that there seemed to be that edge missing a little bit before mainly on the OU side.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, some trepidation there, but when that happened, it really energized not only the sideline, but the stadium, obviously when Peyton Bowen made that big time return, it was about as wild as we've ever seen it.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, we were sitting here.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_03]: in the press box and seeing people, you know, throw in their drinks and their water bottles, yeah, is it everything?
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: The new press by location as a last season, we are, we are hunkered under the OUN just to the left of the top of it.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_02]: If you're in the OUN, and we can hear people when they stop above us, which makes it feel like a cat, because it's like pretty well, box topics set for that.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: When Peyton catches that ball and you see the returns start to go, it's the initial pounding pounding pounding,
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: There were pom-poms, a shout out to Oklahoma's app team for putting a red pom-pom in every single seat here on the crimson end of the cotton ball.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_02]: Pom-poms were tumbling down, empty water bottles were tumbling down, beer cups were tumbling down.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_02]: It was an absolute pandemonium and Brady, I don't think I would go as far to say as it was as loud as
- 13:05[SPEAKER_02]: The legendary walk from the Texas into the Oklahoma Inn for a lot of us media members who were there in 2021.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, you remember the massive, massive comeback where the fans really hung on tight for Caleb Williams, but there were some moments where I know that there were many first time Red River shootout people that when we talk about that when you're in one end to the stadium, it can sound as loud as any pop and you go, that's what Sam's had to say.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone that's been at this game knows that and there were those moments today, late the third quarter, early the fourth quarter of the Oklahoma into the cotton.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely, and again, there were plays that were absolutely needed.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: There were plays that Oklahoma absolutely needed to not just be in the game to survive in the game, but to then win the game.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, when Archbany lost that ball over Payne Pullman's head and Payne won't just write there to play center field.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's got green grass in front of the fans, like sitting over here, kind of saw, like, just come this way, just keep just run this way.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_00]: Bishop Thomas, you lost a job in the middle of the game.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: Bishop Thomas, you said come in the end, Payne.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: Again, it just seemed like any time Texas was ready to just seize moments in this game and put OU down and it's like, hey, they put up a great fight for it.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: Venables had his team prepared, they had a good game plan, but Texas is just on a different level this year as it stands.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: When it, when those plays kind of were there for Texas to take, OU just said, no, we, we want it.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: And then, yeah, like sometimes Texas made a mistake on their own, but good teams and OU, at 3 and 2 again.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: When the schedule was released, 3 and 2 was a very realistic possibility after the effects came.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: This is probably not the manner in which OU fans probably vision that 3 and 2, but they'll take it.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: They had to seize momentum, they had to steal it from Texas, and so when Texas would slip up, good teams like OU can be at times with the town that they have, they were there to pick up the slack and make the most of it.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, not only do they have to survive the first half, not only do they have to go out there in force, but they have to go out there.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: multiple three now.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's not just in the first half in the second half, but they take the lead out that Peyton Bowen pick six and then Archbany goes on a drive where he just is throwing darts all the time.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: It almost felt like it was like you had your fun now.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_02]: It's time for the Marshmating list.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_02]: You drive Archbany isn't lazy moment.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'll say it this though, even after that, it didn't feel like the momentum completely went away from the Oklahoma side, which was a weird thing, because those are the kind of drives that sort of in teams like this, in games like this, a lot of times, and Oklahoma was able to regroup, they were able to come back, not play great offense, or even very good offense.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_03]: Passable, technically like a college football office, but they were able to get something going and at least not let it snowball and that's something that I think was massive in this game that every time Texas came up with a big play
- 15:59[SPEAKER_03]: you never really felt like if this thing's gonna get away from him because it didn't turn into two and three big plays at a time.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_03]: It was very contained.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_03]: They were able to answer that.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_03]: I thought that was big, but also Ryan going back to something earlier in the game right before the punt block.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_03]: How about the two defense of plays on first down and third down right before that?
- 16:25[SPEAKER_02]: The sex by it was a trip Wilson and Taylor and I was going to say that of the biggest plays on this game course and it's always true of games like this, but the pump block a Koyate makes it sway through Dakota fields comes in that was under the radar forever to go to fields comes through falls on it.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think he was in the inzone technically, but then you have the shot down the line with a referee in the way, but he said he was sure he was in.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: Replay review was not like, I didn't, I thought it was all correct, but every replay would open his way today, but as Aversa you, the trick will set you at the Taylor Wein moment.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: Then you go later in the game, Texas has come down the field.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_02]: They have score, Oklahoma's offense stalls out and it's like, did they, did they fire up like a little bit too early and Texas is coming back in and they're before the quarterly gallery play that really set off the matchbook into this.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_02]: It was a one-high-to-key who came through and Texas had had two great plays by really grab a fantastic just.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_02]: Streep you are in play by arch to see oh my gosh everything's coming It's gonna hop in like flip it to like really bring it up there It was on a high-to-key with the four-yard tackle for loss that push Texas back to the fringe the edge of field go rage that thing obviously misses in the exact same It takes it like there's gonna be so many like this play happened because of this and this and this that There's gonna be many many heroes when they fire the film back up on Sunday back in the splits are sent
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: No, totally, I think.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like Averse had those two plays before the Blacks Pump were massive.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: Trent Wilson has been really solid backing up those two obviously stars, Jayden Jackson, David Stone, this year, and that was a huge play.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the Corbin Giller repasperic up against Cam Coleman on this side.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: limited them to a field goal rather than a touchdown.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: That was a big play.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: Just a lot of guys who had missed tackles, Owen Heineke, one of them.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: He's missed a lot of tackles this year, but he made some really big stops.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: That one that you're mentioning was huge.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, all around all three phases played really well today.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's funny because I said to some of the rap to I said before the game like the defense needs to play dang near perfect to win this game and they did it.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_01]: Kim Coleman had some big plays, right?
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: And we go obviously at that big touchdown.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: They let up a few big plays, but they just made up for it with the huge resounding defensive plays, whether that led to six or just stalled out of Texas, right?
- 18:52[SPEAKER_02]: Incredible stuff.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: Their own high-endiquit leads to human tackles, nine tackles, two-and-a-half tackles for loss, Peyton Bowen, seven tackles to go at his pick six.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_02]: Tristan Haynes, seven tackles in the past breakup.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_02]: to go at his day, gillory six, Reggie power six, I thought Reggie powers.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_02]: It might not have showed up.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: I thought he was all over the place, especially with some of the simulated pressures that Brett Bettable's was bringing in.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: I know there's some really good cut ups to watch the broadcast.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_02]: They did all the angles of the pressure that was brought in to set up the Peyton boat over throw.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that was fantastic.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_03]: How about this, sorry, just look at some of the early PFF numbers.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_03]: To Carson's point, 11 missed tackles for the sooner, not just a jump off the page, great number, but not a bad number against the team as good as Texas, but only one of those came from linebackers.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, one high-to-key missed one tackle, but high-to-key and Lewis, one missed tackle combined.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_03]: You'll take that every day.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_02]: And it felt like two Brady, we saw this a year ago.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, once he tensed, held up, it was doing his best to everything it could.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: And then it was the Robert Spear's Genie's Miss Tackle.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_02]: Why is to kind of spun out?
- 19:59[SPEAKER_02]: And it was a little bit, in a weird way, Spear's Genie's momentum helped why is there spin out of the structure of the play and that broke it.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_02]: And then they kind of led from there.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_02]: Today I thought was a day of, partly because the defense itself was going three and out that when an Oklahoma's offense was going three and actually they never actually got behind the time and possession battles, but I think they couldn't stay on the field.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_02]: And I thought today they did such a good job of in those moments where maybe the tackling wasn't perfect.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: There were always two more red hats.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_02]: Johnny on the spot, there to make sure that like you might have missed that tackle.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_02]: It might have cost us two or three yards and did not cost us 20 or 30 yards.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I thought that was an effort that they kept up all day long.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I just think it's really, really impressive how this team can tend to use.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: So like we saw in 2024, they weren't a good football team.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't win many of those games.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_02]: It was never because of lack of effort.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: It was always turnovers or just not able to actually make it happen.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_02]: And whatever you want to say about the frustration of this first half of the season, it's impressive to come up that by and still have that belief in that ability to say, we can actually, it's not just,
- 21:02[SPEAKER_02]: Let's service my savings go to our season around.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_02]: They played like they needed to turn their season around today.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there was one play in the second quarter.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's just kind of a throwaway play.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: But it really kind of to me embodied a lot of the things that these defensive players will tell us when we talk to them.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of it is just play or speak.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: It kind of goes in one year and out the other.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: But it's just kind of going to the thought of like, hey, trust your teammates and trust that they're going to be in the spots that they're going to be in a rip of.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: It was really brown.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: It was a toss.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: From my angle, it looked like,
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: Oh boy, if he bounces that thing outside, he's got a chunk play just waiting to happen.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: And Kip Lewis comes in like a missile and then doesn't even really try to go after a leak brown.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of bounces outside and then takes on a blocker to absorb it because he trusts that Peyton Bowen is back there like he's supposed to be who then launches and I think turns it into maybe like a two yard rush.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's a play like that that maybe last year on a particular drive, oh, you might have just Kip Lewis not a thought.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: I got to make the play because all the pressures on us because John material just doesn't have it today.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: And you go after it.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: If you make the tackle great, if you miss the tackle and he bounces it outside, it's a chunk play potentially touchdown down the sideline.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: And there wasn't a lot of that today.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_00]: And even on the individual moments speaking of Kip Lewis, being archbanging early, was testing them.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: On a run and he had nothing but green grass in front of him and Kiplou is said, uh-uh, uh-uh, like not today And so you just kind of go through each play that scene kind of insignificant the grand scheme of the game But all those little those little minor plays those little trusting your teammates and trusting that the guy is going to be there when he's supposed to be there That added up to light third quarter.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he's in this game
- 22:35[SPEAKER_03]: or are they for quarter oh use it like oh wait oh you has the ball to win the game what is going on it's because oh use defense and overall I just trust in each other yeah and you look at the snap counts and and they you know the rotation was pretty tight in this game but still you had moments like tripp willson that we talked about jake cruel had a big time moment played a lot yeah this game indeed a decent amount let's see what uh he he was after
- 23:05[SPEAKER_03]: as they're trying to pressure or if they're trying to get them from a 7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7-7
- 23:27[SPEAKER_03]: Even though this defense, I don't know if there is good as last year's defense, they are starting to develop some of the things that made last year's defense so good even as they've been really good in the first 11 all season.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: It was an incredible show for the defense and the offense.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_02]: They had to come along with them and they found some stuff.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_02]: We'll turn our page to the offense real here in a second.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_02]: But real quick, want to say about our friends over at Kessler Dinnol.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: Guys, you wouldn't sit in your starting lineup.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: On to the field without taking care of them.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_02]: Your teeth deserve that exact same treatment.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_02]: Kessler Dinnol provides comprehensive dental care for the whole family, right?
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: Here, we're not like here, but up in East Edmund.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_02]: After a full week in a football week, soda and game day snacks, as you can see, we partook.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: Your teeth might need a little attention to schedule.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_02]: Your next cleaning with Kestle Dental in East Edvin.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: They're right up 535, easy access, great parking.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_02]: Might be tough to play through an injury, but don't try to play through a toothpick.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_02]: If something doesn't, they'll recall our friends over at Kestler Dental in East Edvin.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: Gloy the Vaughn might need to call our friends over at Kestler Dino because he ratched that chin strap up.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_02]: He was chomped down on that mouthpiece and he was contributing some grown man runs.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: Carson, it wasn't Gloy the Vaughn though that kind of got Oklahoma going in that last drive of the first half.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_02]: We're not counting the kneel down.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_02]: It ended up in a misfigure, but we talked about the Tory block, I'll kind of get that thing going, but in the second half, and then our vocal talk about that to the game.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_02]: Those guys didn't punch it half time, much less.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: It was the offensive line that was kind of doing the rye raw stuff.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_02]: At half time, Oklahoma comes out, Louis de Vaughn rips off that.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_02]: 42 yard run was gonna kind of get the headlines, but Ben Arbock was quick to point to Lloydavont, moving the pile on a couple of plays, and he was the one that Oakland comes out, gets a field goal drive together, defense had a couple of stops to decide that.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_02]: Then it was six plays, it spanned like the end of the third quarter, started the fourth quarter, and I think that one of the big pops was the Lloydavont punch that into the two yard line, where I think that people started to go, this is fun, this is fun, guys at the fourth quarter, the game's tied, starting to bleed.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't pretty, it wasn't like,
- 25:32[SPEAKER_02]: Russian attack by any means they averaged 2.7 yards per carry, but they found something for an offense that had been lifeless on the ground.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: They absolutely did.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like you said, it wasn't sexy, they didn't win the rushing battle.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: The void of bond had obviously that 42-yard run, but yeah, just a handful of got a few chunky yards there, which was far from a guarantee in some of these past games they played against.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: George and New Mexico and Michigan.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_01]: They couldn't run for anything in those games.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: A bot was fairly consistent with at least getting a few yards I like that they mix it up a bit with Tori Blaylock.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: They involved him in the passing game a little bit If him a couple touches same with Jonathan hat and he had a nice six yard reception Also had a six yard run in the game.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean he got the start now.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, correct through freshman.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean I thought it was impressive the way that they
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: weren't dominant in any phase of the running game, but they did enough different things.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: They found something there with a bonk getting that goal I touched down, you really like to see that.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: And that encourages you before you play a bunch of other really solid defenses.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's a spot to where this is a really good Texas defense.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_02]: So this could have been a good OU office, I think they would have struggled.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_02]: So what I think that when we look at going in three yards to put some of your friends for Kerry, we're a little bit shaded with what we've seen from the so-called rushing attack thus far, Brady, and really to the past two years, it's just been bad.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_02]: But this is a good Texas defense, and I thought the really important part is.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_02]: They were on the field for game in your 10 minutes of the third quarter.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_02]: They kept Texas on the field.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_03]: And so the time of possession is an X-factor?
- 27:02[SPEAKER_02]: It was me.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_02]: It was me.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_02]: That was more of a please.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_02]: Don't shake your defense.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_02]: But, and this is one of those games where normally we talk about this, I say, it's a little bit overrated.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_02]: But at the time of the third quarter, the Oklahoma sideline, the home sideline, fully in the shade, the Texas sidelines in the sun.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_02]: This was not like an absolute scorcher, but it wasn't cool by any means.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that really helped Oklahoma.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_02]: get some juice get going again and and did it sputter a little bit in the fourth quarter.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I've been our buckled joke today and did a four minute drill in the two minute drill in the 19 second drill.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_02]: But it was important just to find some sort of rhythm and have a moment where John material, he was 18 to 26 for 155, not going to, you know, be this spectacular showing, but there was a whole section of the third quarter where John material wasn't called upon and he delivered the big plays late, but they didn't have to put him at risk of doing the bad plays in the middle of the third quarter.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_02]: So they're going to run the foot
- 27:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then in the fourth quarter, I mean Texas says to kind of like drop back a little bit just because like they can't go chase John material around because they know like, well, I mean they kind of technically run the ball again So I mean, I mean, yeah, I go you ends up 2.70 yards per carry, which is awful But when you look at John with your last 27 yards and some of that.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, we're straight up sacks on him Some of it was him trying to like take off and get caught in the back field So is it a sack isn't it kind of just a minus rushing blade who cares, but
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: Over all like that third quarter just all it was just make owe you believe it made them believe it It kind of so doubt in this Texas sideline and You can see it just in the play calling from Texas from CSR region and the play calling on defense for them They were so aggressive in that first quarter and it's because they saw you know a dead dead in the water Like what they'll come and coming back from the Georgia game two weeks ago This is a bad offense go kill them.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of the mentality Texas had and they played like it
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: But unfortunately for them, you know, kind of similar to what OU's kind of been dealing with last few years is their offense as explosive at Cape Belief on Cape Beliefs, they might possess.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: They are not able to sustain drives.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_00]: They are not able to stack drives on top of each other.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: And because of that, you have to keep going back out there.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: You just keep going back out there.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_00]: And then all of a sudden, OU is just manufacturing a running game like you say in the third quarter.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'll all made the more incredible guys because Eddie Piero Luis was on the available to report what middle of the week and that was completely random.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_00]: He was on a one crotch with his right knee in a big brace.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so he was he was a scratch.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: So you had Heath those eye to out there.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't have me doing pregame.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he does either who tweaked what he it looked like he was playing to his knee and pregame He made the star he played two drives paint Joseph came in he thought I was then able to go back into the game and kind of throw that over And then I was there still playing with that my consistency although you wouldn't know it based off how it felt my the sushi was on the sideline David Stone and Michael Pussussi were involved in it was David Stone and Michael Pussussi versus 95 Texas long-warned
- 29:55[SPEAKER_02]: Tunnel as the captains were coming out and they decided to give it to him.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_02]: It was kind of stapled together a little bit, Abraham, but again, I thought the four parts of it gave them some of them, gave them some sort of vibe and it got them to a point where thanks to Portland Gillerie and things like that, they were able to make a decision and actually make a proactive decision with 19 seconds left.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, in print intervals was sort of unequivocal there.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_03]: He told Ben Arbuckle, hey, we got 19 seconds.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_03]: Go get us 20 yards.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_03]: You can do that.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_03]: We've got a chance to win this game with Tate Sandel's leg.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_03]: And they went out and got 33 yards.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_03]: on, uh, back to back plays to Isaiah Centania, but I thought the offensive line played a whole lot better tonight.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_03]: Was it perfect?
- 30:42[SPEAKER_03]: No, but do you expect it to be perfect against a front seven like Texas?
- 30:46[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely not.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, they were able to, you know, keep John the tier cleaner.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_03]: Then I think a lot of people expected the, uh, sack adjusted rushing total was 3.3 yards, which isn't great, but you'll certainly take it.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_03]: That's, that's, it's technically the perfect
- 31:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's a significant difference.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's a significant difference.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_03]: And they were able to just open up things just a little bit.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_03]: They didn't kick down the door, but they cracked it open a little bit where Texas had to change some of the stuff that they were doing defensively and couldn't just absolutely load up and do some of the things that we saw Michigan, New Mexico, and Georgia do
- 31:32[SPEAKER_03]: John Matier and Isaiah Cetanya and this offense really took advantage of it.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_02]: An incredible two catches by Cetanya there at the end.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, and I don't know what it was like if you have a field in the press box.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_02]: Part of it is as our job goes, Avery and I are responsible for publishing stuff based on the whistle.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_02]: When you're doing a take-aways, it's very hard to know what the take-aways are, when the game is hanging the dash of that.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_03]: So, or the compositional grades, things can change so significantly.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_02]: We're kind of in baby breath for like our stress, but you look at it and Vita Vaco is right, that ultimately gets the ball back in their thinking, if we can four minute drill this and then Texas was in the similar spot, they're thinking they got the ball back and like five, as Spinja name's like 447 or something like that when they went on their fist field goal drive, then you're thinking, okay, can you either of these teams do the two minute drill, courtly and gillery,
- 32:19[SPEAKER_02]: steps in front of Coleman gets to your steps and you're thinking, holy cow, my first thought was, hey, Tate Sandel, he had missed his first kick, 52-hour he had come back and made the 53-hour, but I was thinking like, okay, over time.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_02]: free football, third over time, ever in the Red River rivalry.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_02]: Were you surprised that in that, obviously, with the hindsight talking to two of them, there was never a doubt on the other side of my mind.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_02]: I still think it was kind of like an open question of, was Oklahoma gonna try to go for this and try and walk this thing on.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm with you.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: That was my initial thought.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, oh crap.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be chaotic trying to get to that.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: And so you're never back and four hundred percent.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to be chaotic for me.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: Not looking forward to it.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, looking back, it makes sense that even with the offensive struggles that they've had, they have a guy that even with his miss, they trust tapes in hell.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: That was the Lou Grosso award winner last year.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_01]: They know what he's capable of.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they would have tried a field goal from 55 if they had to, they had a lot more yardage than I think, maybe they expected Satania, obviously, that huge last catch to give a really comfortable distance for Tate Sandel.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: So that was really for all the inconsistency, all of the times that that's a little type of mental weage on this year's been off, that showed a lot of confidence from him in that situation.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think material sort of earned that confidence as a game went on.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_03]: It wasn't perfect.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_03]: I think there was one that he put in in harm's way through a couple of balls behind receivers.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, there was the the late one where he took a intentional grounding as Colin Simmons was about to kill him.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_02]: Which initially I was sitting there at the very time green I was sitting there and he was like,
- 34:05[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, all right, there was just, but even that play, I think show some growth from a tier because I think a lot of times I would have forced himself to try to make that play, and then it gets bad it up in the air by Colin Simmons, and then you never know what's going to happen.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_02]: Last week, my tier would have tried to hold on to it, and Colin Simmons would have like dislodge it, and then pinked it up himself, and like the game's going over there.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_03]: But so, I think John material earned that faith throughout the game that, you know, yes, maybe he didn't go down there and get the yardage to get Tate Sandell in the field goal range, but they didn't feel like there was, you know, a massive chance that he was going to go do something like we saw and do against Georgia, where you give Texas an easy score and they win in regulation, and, you know, that the confidence
- 34:58[SPEAKER_02]: This game makes here as Brady, and I think that the redemption source in this game just this game a little bit of kind of spectacular.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_02]: Britt Minimals obviously gets the month off his back.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_02]: I woke up this morning, and someone just declared into the world legitimately.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_02]: The first words I heard this morning was Gary Gibbs was the last one of the most interesting text every time.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_02]: That was Brady when I woke up.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_02]: That was how I started my dick.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's how you sleep.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_03]: That's how you sleep.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_03]: That's how you sleep.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_02]: That's how you sleep.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_02]: That's how you sleep.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_02]: That's how you sleep.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_02]: That's how you sleep.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_02]: So he, he appointed that bait, John Mitzier, not just the play that he's had this year so far, but he talked about it post game breathing.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_02]: He has thought about this game literally for three or six five days.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_02]: Take the same doubt in this game alone.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_02]: He had missed the first few ago, which extends kind of a streak of Hempian walking here to store.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_02]: You look at Gilory, if you want to do kind of the Cam Coleman angle, they're an option story there.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_02]: I've been article this entire offensive.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of incredible that guys like Kip Lewis and Owen Heineck, who came back for one more ride at this thing.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_02]: If whatever happens next seven weeks, this game's going to live forever.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_02]: Owen Heineck and Kip Lewis are never wrapped up by fear and normative.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: Stuff like, it's just kind of incredible how
- 36:06[SPEAKER_02]: there's something special about this crappies to all crappies stadium you don't even know what else across the country can say anything about this venue that brings the best at it and at everybody yeah two players i mean we'll start geometry here um i don't know if he said this to you guys last year
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: But I remember just being here he made a point to turn and look at the screen when our expanding was putting the golden hat on He's staring at the screen and you could just tell like he he wanted it to kind of hurt He wanted to try to remember it.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: So when John at the podium today says that he's been thinking about this game for 365 days It's easy to say yeah, I believe you because it It truly sucks.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean any fan that's been to this game.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: Whether you if you've lost it's one of the worst feelings in the world
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: and so for John to be in this game late in the fourth quarter have multiple chances to either extend the lead or regain the lead and then make the throws necessary to put Tate Sandil in a much comfortable position like you say cars and to kick that game winning field goal.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he didn't throw the game winning touchdown, but he didn't need to.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of the idea.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yes, I think the brain got asked, like, is this how you envisioned it,
- 37:22[SPEAKER_00]: the basic understanding of complementary football, your offense, cup meeting a defense, and so on and so forth.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: That came different with today, and Jonathan here was been put in a situation where, hey, the pressure is not necessarily all on your shoulders, because you you have made the plays necessary to be here in the first place, so you should have the belief that you can make those throws, and that's exactly what you did.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_00]: And the second player for me is Portland Gillerie.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I don't know if it was the same play, but it was a safety blitz, uh, Bremittal sin after archbanging, it kind of reminded me of the kip sticks at, at, at Auburn, uh, where Robert Spears Jennings is just like, has Peyton Thorne dead to rights and it forces a quick throw, uh, to, uh, get the ball at, uh, the quarterback's hands and it, it results in interception kit, for Lewis returns it for a touchdown.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, well, it wasn't a kit, it wasn't a pit six, but court can go a,
- 38:09[SPEAKER_00]: Finally, gets his first intersection as a no-clome center.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_00]: He's had multiple chances.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_00]: He's been flagged because he's such a physical fiery corner.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_00]: He gets that intersection.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_00]: And still, it's seen at the time, OK, this is going to go into over time more than likely.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_00]: But again, John with here is set in that position to make those two throws a satan on the boundaries, and it just, like you said, it just seems like everybody that had something to add to their legacy, or to begin their legacy, if you don't want to talk about court and guilty.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_00]: is here was their moment and oh you just everything came up mill house for Oklahoma.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_02]: It was kind of spectacular.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to be this person yet.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: We've got plenty of time.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's time for me to come into town.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure they're in the cage.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_02]: I'm interested to see how much brickventibles has learned as a head coach.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_02]: The last time Oklahoma was in this spot.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_02]: They beat Texas, then they were going into a by week, so it makes it a little bit different.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_02]: They came out.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_02]: It was a terrible form.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's good to see you see it.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: I've had to find out for two point conversion to avoid OT.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_02]: They did.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be about dealing with success.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_02]: All that stuff.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_02]: That's part of it.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's hard for us to kind of, you know, quantum by that.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_02]: Carson, what do you think the important building blocks are for the defense?
- 39:16[SPEAKER_02]: Death Destruction, they're going to continue to bring that more of the same, but for the offense for Tate say a death, but what is the stuff that I think, or that you think Oklahoma found in the cotton wool to do, they can build on and maybe start their path of improvement throughout the year?
- 39:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think at some of the stuff we talked about, I saw on the post game rap, this performance reminded me a lot of John Matier's game against South Carolina last year, right after that Texas game, it wasn't the sexy performance, I believe he had at least one touchdown, so I mean, different in that regard.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_01]: But clean football didn't make the back breaking turnovers, that's something that of course he's going to want to build on against some other really good defences.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_01]: Most in the nearest future, Kentucky which looks better than everybody thought this year.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I think that's an important thing.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think the run game finding different ways like we touched on a minute ago looks like they definitely got something there with a void of lot he looks like he had a spark finding ways whether it's true carries or
- 40:21[SPEAKER_01]: New Mexico, even that didn't happen, certainly didn't against Georgia, so I liked that against a really good defense.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: It makes you think that there's something there, and then if they get façousey, purely back, it should be even better, you think?
- 40:34[SPEAKER_02]: Can't wait to see what this thing looks like as it continues to go forward.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_02]: A big one next week in Norman, Saturday night, Sooners, and the Wildcats will get it on.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_02]: Kentucky's first trip to Oklahoma, since the 80s, I think, in the 80s and 80s,
- 40:47[SPEAKER_02]: rumble if I remember correctly.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_02]: So that one should be a ton of fun.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to leave it here.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, first off, it's 11 o'clock.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_02]: They're shooting us out of cotton ball.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_02]: In honor of the great Kirk Cousins, I would take in this these goons over to in and out and then we're going to be headed home.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_02]: But go to the website, ultimate suitors onside.com.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_02]: We've got my takeaways.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_02]: Who's stock report?
- 41:07[SPEAKER_02]: We've got Abers, position of greater pork cards from the game.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_02]: Avery wrote about the faith and the confidence that they already had in job material as the Institute to make that thing happen.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_02]: I wrote about the building blocks for the offense.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_02]: This is just on Sunday.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_02]: Gillery, he's getting written about by Brady.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_02]: We got so much content coming for you.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's all free always.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_02]: Open the suitors on a side.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_02]: Of course in this mention the wrap a couple of times we want to watch our post game wrap head to the YouTube page John Hoover media.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_02]: You can watch these three beautiful humans wrap up everything from the field here at the cotton Bull.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_02]: You can also watch the Oklahoma press conference.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_02]: You can watch these are keys you'd be sad and be asked about play Call and do these multiple times Texas press conference up there.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_02]: Off it's a player's death.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_03]: It's hilarious.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_03]: Who would have thought?
- 41:48[SPEAKER_03]: That before the game that we would have three questions about playcalling duties and potential coach and the changes and all of them Success is incredible and we're dancers no no absolutely not and no
- 42:03[SPEAKER_02]: All of that stuff is on who's due to page John Hoover Media type it in.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_02]: Drink it in, love it, and as always, Oakmasooners on SI.com is the place to be.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be back in Norman, on Monday night talking to the players, turn in the page, preview to Kentucky Tuesday, our buckle-vindable press conference.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_02]: Then for the podcast, we'll be back here in your feet on Wednesday for our Texas Redux Part 2 slash turn over to Kentucky and make
- 42:32[SPEAKER_02]: 10 years from now, Ryan.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_02]: What do you remember from this book?
- 42:35[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, just watching John material celebrate afterwards and everything that had gone on entering this game and to see the way that he was able to maneuver through the end, there's going to be a ton of things that you're going to remember, you're going to remember Peyton Bowen, you're going to remember the walk-as celebration that was going on, literally all around us as he, you know, gets that thing.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_03]: you remember the the feel the punt block early and just the way that it started shifting some momentum in the game, but to me it's John Metier and the way that he was able to come through after getting written off by a very large portion of the OU fan base over the last couple weeks.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_02]: He's easy guy to have.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_02]: I know that we have a little bit of a relationship with job It's here and the place been the play and we've been as critical as anybody.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_02]: He's a guy to root for.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he's a guy to have good things to happen.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_02]: I'm probably going to remember Brady at how many times you are in the story here.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_02]: Did a kicker get to rust the flag.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_02]: to do not buy like a calm staff or like the team was like tapes and don't plant this flag in at the video you're at the cotton ball and I asked tapes and you'll do some more laugh all the time yeah he did the trick it's true he should have got some pointers from Baker yeah it was five shout out college pickers
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: No, I was going to mention this is my first experience covering this game from the press box then going into the podium.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'd always heard that you could hear the locker room during the losing team talking to the podium.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_00]: It is a man and it is a very bad experience for that losing team because OU's locker room was loud and I can imagine like when Texas is one, like, and OU's up there, Texas probably allowed themselves, but that is a very hard environment to be and
- 44:29[SPEAKER_00]: To answer tough questions, you just lost your rival, your embarrassed, it's bad, and then you just hear them to hear it's, uh, that's why this game is so special.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's not just, it's the locker room, but it's also the winning team is everyone who stays on the field for a long time and every time the door opens the press commentary, my open straight to the conference.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_02]: So it's too full.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_02]: You hear the locker room kind of rubble like the butter you and then you hear the team still sell them in the fan celebrate.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, when OU wins it's different because we're in the OU in the field.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_03]: So a lot of those fans are still hanging around, you know, soaking it all in.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: kind of incredible cars if you were in the mixer.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_02]: It was not put up a field store because we've had a little field store which I still can't believe they're having toys with the one.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_02]: The OU defense ran straight to the Texas student section.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_02]: You were in the middle of that and it looked like a party out there.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it was amazing.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_01]: There were so many different things going on.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_01]: Between me being in the middle of the fight between both teams that Steve Sarkish and pretty much had to rally his guys back to the sideline Marcho 4 got pushed into me That was nuts.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: Of course the sharing around of the goal to hat that was really cool Of course the defense going up to the student section that happens just about in any game in the SEC when you pull off an upset but especially
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: and a game like this was really cool.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: I see, I think LeBron Bauer might have to run some sprints.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, but we'll just leave it that time.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_00]: You might have to run some sprints on Monday.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_02]: LeBron Bauer had a good day.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_02]: I guess I bet we got you a true Red Ribbon Rodriguez.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_02]: Very sweet.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: And for Oklahoma fans, this is one that's gonna be played on S.C. Network, every June, July.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's one that's gonna be remembered on the video board.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_02]: Everyone knows you get during the time aspect.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_02]: Now a Texas Red Ribbon Legend.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_00]: Now a big OU-Wit.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_02]: This is going to be one that's brought up for years and years here in the cotton ball.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_00]: Got to make a count.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_02]: 27, 24, victory for the series.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to leave it here if like I said, plenty more content to come.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_02]: Everything Oklahoma as the Golden Hat hits back point on the red river.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: We are going to have a great time.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_02]: are gonna head back north of Grever, though.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm up from the Thunderbolt Cotton Bowl.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for sticking along with this big shout-out to Avery for everything, Brady, Carson, certainly, who've doing the lords work back trying to run point and be the puppet master for everybody with good internet and good Wi-Fi.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_02]: Big thank you to him.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_02]: We will talk to you here on the podcast, though.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_02]: Next Wednesday, have a good one, and don't enjoy too much, but have some fun guys.
