- 0:00Welcome to the Yukon Football Coaches Show Mike chris Pino along with Jim Moore.
- 0:04A little bit later on in the show, we'll have Chase Lund the offensive
- 0:07tackle, Joe McFadden the place kicker. But we kick it off with the
- 0:11coach on a bye week or after a bye week and after a win as
- 0:15yu Can broke through at Rice a couple weeks ago, thirty eight to thirty
- 0:19one, coming from fourteen points down in the game. Coach, what was
- 0:24the most important thing that happened in that game at Rice in your mind?
- 0:31Well, I think there was a lot of things. It's hard to tell
- 0:35you what the most important was, you know, I think you have to
- 0:38look at the fact that the team showed great resilience in coming back from a
- 0:43fourteen to nothing deficit on the road. And the reason that happened is because,
- 0:50well, number one, they were a resilient bunch. But they and
- 0:52they work hard and they believe in each other. But we made a couple
- 0:55of plays that really helped us get back in that game. You know,
- 0:59obviously the funck Force fumble by Price that Julani picked up, you know on
- 1:04the one, and then Jackson getting the fumble and scoring, you know,
- 1:10all of a sudden you look up and you're you're back in the game.
- 1:12And that's what you have to be able to do in any game. And
- 1:15when you're on the road it's it's especially important. And when you're trying to,
- 1:21you know, get off the schneide and get a win, it's extremely
- 1:23important. And so I think that's not one thing, but that's several things
- 1:27that I think that needed to happen, and they did happen. Yeah,
- 1:30you faced, excuse me, a team in Rice that had three wins.
- 1:34They were a high octane offense. They were kind of rolling as the sea
- 1:38as the game began and they got fourteen points on the board right away.
- 1:42Those takeaways the last two weeks, six of them by the Huskies, and
- 1:47that's been to me the most important thing in a way that look, you
- 1:52look like last year's team a little bit. I'm not looking back. I'm
- 1:55just saying this team, when they start turning people over, it's a lot
- 2:00of energy and it really seemed to catapult the offense forward. That's what you're
- 2:05looking for, you know, to play and I think you and I have
- 2:07talked about this, playing a complete game where all three phases contribute to a
- 2:13win. And that happened because it wasn't just the defensive takeaways, but it
- 2:16was the takeaway on the punt and then the other opportunities we had with the
- 2:21ball in our hands. You know, there's a couple of plays where Isaiah
- 2:24had chances to make big plays. So getting around the ball is what you
- 2:29want to do on defense and on special teams, and then having an offense
- 2:32that capitalizes is critical and that's we have to continue to emphasize and work on,
- 2:38and then we have to be able to do it on Saturdays. Yeah.
- 2:43Back to that that Jackson Mitchell return of the fumble. Wow, I
- 2:49mean I had the perfect angle in the broadcast move I could not tell if
- 2:53that was a forward pass. It looked right on the line. It was
- 2:55a tough call. It went Yukon's way, thankful, but Mitchell taken off
- 3:00with the football, a guy like him sprinting down the sideline, and that
- 3:05had to be a good feeling for all of you guys on the sideline.
- 3:08I felt good, but I was like you, I was worried they were
- 3:13going to bring it back. And I saw the replay and it looked like,
- 3:16you know, it looked like it was a good call, but I
- 3:19was just hoping we could get the snap off on the extra point before they
- 3:23decided to review it. But they review all scores and they must reviewed it
- 3:28and felt like it was a good call, and hey, I'll take it
- 3:30right if it was close and it went our way, we'll take it.
- 3:34We need a little of that. Yeah, big plays offensively, cam ross
- 3:38that long TD reception and then justin Jolie putting it away, breaking a tackle
- 3:44and going the distance. That's something you know, Husky's hadn't had in the
- 3:49formula the first few weeks in the month of September. Boy, it's nice
- 3:53to get those big plays and score in one shocking play. Yeah, it
- 3:57hasn't really been something we've been able to do consistently, you know, for
- 4:02a year and a half, and we've been working towards that, and I
- 4:05think having a quarterback that's got a lot of confidence and has the talent that
- 4:11Takekwon has helps us do those things. And you know, being able to
- 4:15put some points upon the board and contributing all three phases is something that hasn't
- 4:19happened around here in a long time. Is the first time in since twenty
- 4:24ten that we've had back to back thirty point games, you know, so,
- 4:29which is pretty common in football now to just throw up thirty. So
- 4:31you know, we've got to keep stressing all three phases, contributing and getting
- 4:38points and getting takeaways and breaking tackles and throwing deep and continue to be aggressive
- 4:44as a football team. Yes, seventy one points in the last two games
- 4:47for the Huskies. You know, we've been saying I've been saying this.
- 4:51Maybe I'm crazy, but I mean, this team to me is like a
- 4:55five hundred ball club, even though the record says it isn't. And you
- 4:59can't sit there and say I wish it was. But I feel like going
- 5:02into the second half of the season, this ball club could really turn some
- 5:06heads. Where's your head on that? Well, I hope that your feeling
- 5:12is right. My feeling is one game at a time. I think it
- 5:15has to be that I've found with myself. If I get carried away with
- 5:19what you know, it's too far down the road. It's not healthy for
- 5:24me. I hope you're right. But you know, for us, we
- 5:29have to win this week. You know, we have to find a way
- 5:31to be desperate to win and then play that way on Saturday and then we'll
- 5:38worry about the next one after that. But I think what great performers do
- 5:42is they focus on the now. You know, you don't lose track of
- 5:46the big picture obviously, but you focus on the now. And I think
- 5:48that's so critical, especially with young players that seem to have I'm not talking
- 5:55about our team, I'm talking about young players in general, so I guess
- 5:58I am talking about our team in a sense. But to have more emotional
- 6:00ups and downs, you know, based on wins and losses, where my
- 6:03experience tells me professionals, you know, move week to week, So we
- 6:08have to just embrace that attitude of moving week to week and being the best
- 6:12we can be that particular week. Or with Jim Moore of the Yukon Football
- 6:17Coaches Show, we'll be back talk about Taekwon Roberson on a real role here
- 6:21the last two weeks. I want to ask you about your O line coach
- 6:25Gordon Samus as well. That's coming up. Stay tuned more of The Yukon
