- 0:42Speaker 5: Brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
- 0:46Speaker 5: ib W Local sixty eight. Start with a job, end
- 0:50Speaker 5: with a career. Jeff, we're having some fun just talking
- 0:54Speaker 5: about this. That the other thing, you know, typical off
- 0:58Speaker 5: season moves, which is weird because the Broncos right in
- 1:00Speaker 5: the middle of everything, but you know, it's it's hard
- 1:03Speaker 5: not to think about what they can do to make
- 1:06Speaker 5: themselves better, and deals do get done at this time
- 1:09Speaker 5: of the year. So maybe I'll just start with that.
- 1:11Speaker 5: Have you heard anything about Garrett Bowles and the Broncos
- 1:16Speaker 5: getting a deal done?
- 1:18Speaker 3: You know, I haven't. De Mac and that is that's
- 1:21Speaker 3: one that has been decidedly quiet when other things haven't
- 1:25Speaker 3: been quiet. I mean, just even when they've needed to
- 1:30Speaker 3: create cap room, they haven't looked at his deal either.
- 1:36Speaker 3: So it that, in a general sense, is a team
- 1:41Speaker 3: saying we want to leave that contract right where it is,
- 1:45Speaker 3: just in case they want to move on. I think
- 1:48Speaker 3: that's what that says. And I think there I think
- 1:51Speaker 3: there are times when even Garrett Boles believes they're going
- 1:54Speaker 3: to move on from him. But I don't know, you
- 1:57Speaker 3: know how much he's going to be willing to say
- 1:59Speaker 3: publicly about that at some point. But you know, he's
- 2:02Speaker 3: made it pretty clear he wants to stay. But I
- 2:05Speaker 3: don't think there's been much movement to this point. And
- 2:09Speaker 3: his metrics are still pretty good. I know. You know,
- 2:11Speaker 3: sometimes people wonder about some of the flags or whatever,
- 2:15Speaker 3: but when you talk to GMS and the metrics they use,
- 2:19Speaker 3: he's still one of the better pass protectors in the league.
- 2:22Speaker 5: How are the what's the left tackle class like in
- 2:24Speaker 5: the draft or are you aware of that?
- 2:26Speaker 1: Are you working on that yet?
- 2:27Speaker 5: Or no?
- 2:28Speaker 3: It's it's not bad. I mean it's you could I mean,
- 2:33Speaker 3: you could find somebody who you could play as a rookie.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Are they going to play as good at Bulls? You know,
- 2:39Speaker 3: I can't say that right now. Uh, But you're also
- 2:42Speaker 3: dealing with an organization. You know, the last two tackle
- 2:46Speaker 3: left tackles they took in the first round were Bulls
- 2:50Speaker 3: and Ryan Clady in eight. So we're not talking about
- 2:54Speaker 3: a team that has used much draft real estate early,
- 2:59Speaker 3: uh to take a tackle. And they've taken very few tackles,
- 3:04Speaker 3: if any since Bulls and with any pick in the draft.
- 3:09Speaker 3: So that's the other that they would have to do
- 3:13Speaker 3: things something they haven't done in quite a long time,
- 3:16Speaker 3: if at all.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Well, it feels like for the first time in about
- 3:20Speaker 2: a decade, the Broncos have got a good problem in
- 3:22Speaker 2: which they got guys they got to figure out how
- 3:24Speaker 2: to retain and within next within the next two years,
- 3:28Speaker 2: for sure, Jeff, we were talking about it. So you've
- 3:30Speaker 2: got Courtland Sutton, You've got Garrett Bolls, You've got Nick Bonito,
- 3:35Speaker 2: Zach Allen, all guys that are gonna be up with
- 3:37Speaker 2: in the next two years. Is there any other big
- 3:40Speaker 2: names in there? And and if you had to guess
- 3:43Speaker 2: on how they would prioritize those guys, what would your guest.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Be well, if you're gonna pay Benito, you're paying them
- 3:51Speaker 3: at the top of the market to keep them. That's
- 3:53Speaker 3: that's the decision they're going to have to make, is
- 3:56Speaker 3: are you willing to dive in for what it's gonna
- 3:59Speaker 3: take a pass rushers get paid. It's very simple. And
- 4:06Speaker 3: you know, he his pressure rate last year was among
- 4:08Speaker 3: the best in the league, and this year both his
- 4:11Speaker 3: pressure rate and sack rate are among the best in
- 4:14Speaker 3: the league. So that's a big ticket item. You know
- 4:18Speaker 3: you're gonna pay big for that. And it's basically his
- 4:23Speaker 3: willingness to do something before he hits the market as
- 4:26Speaker 3: a player. That's a big decision. You know. I know
- 4:30Speaker 3: they're gonna want to keep Zach Allen at least if
- 4:34Speaker 3: Vance Joseph is still around in particular, and to me,
- 4:38Speaker 3: those are the two sort of big ones on the horizon.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I still don't get a sense that that Bulls is
- 4:46Speaker 3: in that equation anywhere. Now. That could change, you know,
- 4:49Speaker 3: when they have their end of the season meetings. But
- 4:52Speaker 3: to this, to this point, no one has really privately
- 4:56Speaker 3: told me or anything. Yeah, we're gonna work on something
- 4:59Speaker 3: for boll Uh. You know, in the in the months ahead.
- 5:03Speaker 3: But you know, I think Benito is job one, and
- 5:06Speaker 3: the first decision there is are you gonna be willing
- 5:10Speaker 3: to write the check big enough to keep them?
- 5:13Speaker 4: And when I've Doug is too soon, he's playing too
- 5:16Speaker 4: well to think hometown discount or anything like that too
- 5:18Speaker 4: right now.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I mean, if you're Benito's agent, you're not giving anybody
- 5:23Speaker 3: a discount. You're gonna have to you know, it won't
- 5:26Speaker 3: be to the extent of the certain deal per se,
- 5:29Speaker 3: but you're gonna have to pay him near the top
- 5:31Speaker 3: of the market. I mean, just pass rushers get paid. Uh,
- 5:36Speaker 3: it's just a simple fact. And you know, you look
- 5:39Speaker 3: at what guys like Hassan Reddick got and and all
- 5:42Speaker 3: of those things in recent years. But to sign him early,
- 5:47Speaker 3: you're gonna have to entice him to not go in
- 5:50Speaker 3: the market and see what he can get. And you know, defensively,
- 5:55Speaker 3: you know, we don't know if if you know, if
- 5:57Speaker 3: you know, a GM keeps telling me he thinks they's
- 5:59Speaker 3: gonna be eight or nine head coaches jobs open at
- 6:03Speaker 3: the end of the season, I'm not sure there are
- 6:06Speaker 3: eight or nine qualified candidates out there, you know. And
- 6:11Speaker 3: and if if vance Joseph gets interviews or even leaves,
- 6:15Speaker 3: you know, does that change the dynamic on what they
- 6:18Speaker 3: want on defense, what kinds of players they are looking for,
- 6:21Speaker 3: and all of those things.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Okay, good stuff.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Any first round tight ends you seen yet?
- 6:28Speaker 3: You know the Penn State the guy at Penn State is.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I just looked at We just looked him up like
- 6:34Speaker 1: ten seconds ago.
- 6:35Speaker 3: But Tyler Ward, No, he's he's all over the format.
- 6:38Speaker 3: He's kind of like Bowers and that he can go
- 6:40Speaker 3: all over the formation. Now he's not as refined as
- 6:43Speaker 3: Bowers anywhere near as a receiver, but he's a versatile guy.
- 6:49Speaker 2: That was my pick.
- 6:51Speaker 4: You wanted the Michigan guy, said, I don't need Jake
- 6:54Speaker 4: Bucks coming here again, Jeff now missing.
- 6:56Speaker 3: The Michigan guy is a giant though he's like six
- 6:59Speaker 3: seven man, He's he can go get it. But uh,
- 7:03Speaker 3: none of them are Bowers. But that's that's very few are.
- 7:06Speaker 5: Yeah, but you're drafted in the twenties. It's different, you know,
- 7:09Speaker 5: different expectations there.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Liz.
- 7:10Speaker 3: I just think we all know how you feel about
- 7:13Speaker 3: the Bowers in the first round thing. Anyway, we know where.
- 7:15Speaker 2: You're a Oh, all of a sudden, he's advocating for a
- 7:17Speaker 2: first round tight end in the twenties.
- 7:20Speaker 5: In the twenties, not at twelve or thirteen when you
- 7:22Speaker 5: don't have a quarterback.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Listen, I will I will die on the hill until
- 7:28Speaker 3: the end of time. They could have had both, but
- 7:30Speaker 3: they were not willing to be patient.
- 7:33Speaker 1: The Raiders would have taken him.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Ye, come on, I would know for.
- 7:36Speaker 3: I know for a fact the Raiders would not have
- 7:39Speaker 3: taken bon Nicks in the draft.
- 7:42Speaker 1: And nobody else, nobody else, Merry Christmas.
- 7:48Speaker 3: I know they would not have taken bone Nicks in
- 7:53Speaker 3: the draft.
- 7:53Speaker 5: And would any so win? Would the Broncs have got
- 7:55Speaker 5: bone Nicks in the second round?
- 7:58Speaker 3: No? Should we come into the back of the round
- 8:00Speaker 3: and get them? And like a patient team one could
- 8:03Speaker 3: have had both. I mean, it's okay, it's gonna work
- 8:05Speaker 3: out how it's gonna work out. It's fine. You know,
- 8:07Speaker 3: it's draft days, draft ding. I will say the Broncos
- 8:10Speaker 3: only had two of the quarterbacks worthy of the first round,
- 8:15Speaker 3: Jayden Daniels and bon Nick. So do with that.
- 8:18Speaker 1: What you will is Cam's gotta be a first round pick.
- 8:23Speaker 3: You know, it's hard for running back these days to
- 8:26Speaker 3: be a first round pick. He's versatile enough, there will
- 8:29Speaker 3: be an offensive coordinator, you know, pounding the table a
- 8:33Speaker 3: little bit too, to maybe at the back end of
- 8:36Speaker 3: the round to come get him.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Jeff, if you haven't watched it, watched the movie Spirited,
- 8:43Speaker 4: and if you have, and if you have seen it,
- 8:44Speaker 4: next time you say goodbye to de Mac, just say
- 8:46Speaker 4: good afternoon.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Good afternoon, good after do all right, so we'll see
- 8:52Speaker 1: you later.
- 8:52Speaker 3: It's my first Boston journalism would hang up the phone
- 8:56Speaker 3: without even saying goodbye, So I have a pretty high tolerance.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Thank you, Jeff Lagwald.
- 9:01Speaker 5: Brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
