Blackstar Canyon is known by many throughout the state of

California as a Wide Open Space full of family-friendly Trails.

However, it should be known for much more than just this unlike

many of Southern California's Trails.

Black stars been the site of a plethora of horrific events that

have taken place Throughout history, as well as a multitude

of strange sightings, which we'll get into later located in

Orange County, California and the Santa Ana mountains.

The canyon was originally known as Canada De Los Indios, under

Spanish rule, and then later under Mexican rule.

As part of Alta, California or Nueva California, the first

known recorded negative event that took place.

Place there was in 1831, local ranchers.

Were being terrorized by horse, thieves from the Shoshone tribe,

a Native American tribe that was active in the area.

The time, unable to track the thieves down themselves, they

banded together and were aided by a local mountain man.

the ranchers tracked, the thieves down until they came

upon their encampment here. They discovered much more than

they had bargained for not only had the tribesmen ate their

horses, but they found several still cooking human limbs over

ranchers, overwhelmed the natives, they encountered there

and massacred them before then desecrating and leaving their

remains. But this would be only one of

darkness of the canyon, the land in which the massacre took place

on, would eventually fall into the hands of William wolf skill

and eventually a man named Irving after discovering coal,

deposits in the canyon. James Irving would co-found with

a man named August wit. The Black Star coal mining

company and 1879 which gave the canyon, its current name.

The mine would pull an estimated six, tons of coal each day and

was almost exclusively employed by The Canyons few residents,

many accidents would take place within the Mind including In one

incident where a man who was seemingly intoxicated fell to

his death. This was later investigated by

the law of the time and the mining company was not found to

be at fault many locals at this time of the operation, believe

the mine, or the land. Could be haunted, due to the

frequent experiences of seeing apparitions and hearing

surrounding area. Many of the apparitions were

The mining operation like many during this era soon became

unprofitable and the Black Star mining company was soon sold by

Irving, it would later be replaced by the Santa Clara

mine, a much more successful and sustainable company that would

lead to the sustainment of the town of Carbondale located

nearby. It would go on to operate until

it closed for Good in the early 20th century.

Another unfortunate event that took place upon the land

happened on June 9th, 1899 at a place called Hidden Ranch

located within the canyon Hidden Ranch was owned by a man named

Henry. Hungerford of Norwalk and George

Howard of Anaheim. On June 8th. 1899 James, Greg,

his brother-in-law and a teenage boy by the name of Clint hunt

her. I have to drive out cattle that

Greg owned and paid pasturage for on the land.

That evening. A dispute broke out over

unsettled debts between Greg and the property owners Howard owed.

Greg $10 on a horse trade and Greg had an outstanding

pasturage bill of $17.50 a total sum that would equal

approximately 98 thousand dollars in today's money while

Gregor. Insisted that Hungerford and

Howard accept a settlement of $7.50 or about 26,000 dollars in

today's money. A heated exchange broke out

between the two but they eventually would go their

separate ways and ultimately would go to bed for the night.

However, the following morning upon reconvening, the argument

simply started back up. Amidst the resume dispute, Henry

hunger. Ford would ultimately fatally

shoot and kill James Greg. It wasn't long after this

incident. That Hungerford was arrested and

brought to the trial for the murder before judge JW Ballard

initially convicted of the murder.

The trial results were overturned due to the judge

granting a motion for a new trial on the grounds.

That not enough evidence had been produced to convict Beyond

A Reasonable Doubt. It's no new evidence was

available upon the start of the new trial, the district

attorney, a man named Ry, Williams had no choice.

Other than, to dismiss the case, Andre Hungerford would get away

with the murder of James Greg. And since then many have claimed

to see Greg near Hidden Ranch and considering the

circumstances in which, he died out of a lapse of judgment.

He did emotions. And reaction, it wouldn't

surprise me if his soul was still wandering the land, even

to this day. Besides events of the distant

past there have been more modern tragedies to take place within

the canyon as well. I'll be focusing on the ones

that took place directly in the geographical area of black star

and not the surrounding areas. It's been rumored but cannot be

confirmed that in the 1970s a bus driver, lost control of the

buzz that transported local children to, and from school the

bus then, subsequent chily crashed.

The Blackstar, Canyon killing everyone who was on board, the

corpse of the bus then sat within the canyon for more than

40 years until it was removed in 2013.

Many people have reported being pushed by what felt like child's

hands and hearing children whispering and laughing near the

bus when it was still there. But there was never anyone

But the two brothers tragically would never make it out alive.

Of those is a sighting of an ape-like creature within the

canyon and throughout the surrounding area, aside from

dozens of reports by locals and tourists alike, having claimed

Another strange creature that has been witnessed draws from an

old Spanish folk tale. The Spanish, of course,

controlled the area prior to Mexico, and the folktale is that

But from my research, it seems that La Llorona, or the Weeping

Woman was a woman named Maria, who married, a wealthy, man, who

As time went on, she began to see her husband less, and less.

And when he was home, he only ever paid attention to the

children, eventually, she would see her husband with another

woman out of jealousy and mania. One night, she drowned her two

She was denied entry through Heaven's Gates and now surges

the world for her lost children, often being seen in a white

bridal, gown with a disfigured or animal-like face.

She's typically seen floating in bodies of water and attacks

children, as well as adults. There is a well that is rumored

to exist within the canyon where she lives and she's been rumored

Well, only to drag whoever or whatever, she preys upon deep

spot for EVPs or electronic voice, phenomena disembodied.

groups and were spotted several times by the first party prior
