- 2:07of Canawha County. We're going to talk to Deputy Crawford about that, plus
- 2:12Brad Michaelhaney will check in from the Capital as we near the end of the
- 2:15legislative session. Want to welcome into the show this morning, Senator Shelby more
- 2:20Capital, Senator, good morning, Welcome to the show. Hey Dave,
- 2:23good morning. How's it going. It is going well. Thank you for
- 2:25being here. And I know, I know you don't have a lot of
- 2:28time to spend with us day, but I do appreciate you reaching out.
- 2:31I want to get right into the crisis at the border. It seems to
- 2:36get worse, Senator every day, a lot of finger pointing and a lot
- 2:38of blame to go around. I want to ask you like a multifaceted question
- 2:44here. Okay, First of all, overall, what do you want to
- 2:47say about the crisis at the border and the funding that is needed down there.
- 2:53But last week, former President Trump visited an area of the border,
- 2:59as did current President Joe Biden, and there's been some controversy as to the
- 3:04two of them going. They went on the same day and where they visited,
- 3:07So I'll let you take it from there. Okay, Well, Dave,
- 3:10this is a crisis that hits every single state, and certainly hits West
- 3:15Virginia. I got really steamed up last night because as I was looking through
- 3:19Twitter, I saw where some of the MSNBC commentators had said, well,
- 3:23why would Virginia care about immigration, and one of them wise cracked, Well,
- 3:29they do have a border from West Virginia. Just shows me the arrogance
- 3:32of that side of the aisle in terms of how immigration impacts. We see
- 3:38fentanyl deaths, we see crime, We also see overrun facilities in certain states,
- 3:44and so to say that it's only confined to the border is absolutely head
- 3:46in the sand, incorrect. It's chaotic, it has been for years,
- 3:51and it lays right at the feet of President Biden. There's no question about
- 3:55it. Now he carps about funding. I was the chairman of the funder
- 3:59of Homeland Security. Will be built the wall under President Trump and other things
- 4:03they're funding there. It's just a matter of his priorities. So just this
- 4:08past Monday, seven thousand people came across those numbers are crawling back up again
- 4:12after they went down a little bit in January. So it is a national
- 4:16tragedy. And this administration has many things they could have been doing that they
- 4:20had not been doing. They could have done remain in Mexico, quicker asylum
- 4:24claims, deportations and other things, and so where they went. I've been
- 4:30to the border several times, as you know, and where you know,
- 4:34President Biden went to Brownsville where they were getting you know, twelve people a
- 4:39day, and President Trump, in contrast, went to Eagle Pass where they've
- 4:45had thousands a day, so that he could really see what was going on.
- 4:47But you know, even that doesn't matter as much as this open arms
- 4:54catch and release that the president has done. We've got nine million people in
- 4:59this country in the last three years that are illegally here, that are in
- 5:02all kinds of our cities, taking over hotels and schools and eating up all
- 5:08kinds of resources, committing crimes like we saw down in Georgia. So sorry
- 5:12to get on a rent there, but it's very upsetting to me and all
- 5:15of us in West Virginia. It's probably the issue in our state. Again,
- 5:19we're talking with Senator Shelby Moore Capita. And again going back to the
- 5:23visit down there last week that the president and the former president made actually had
- 5:29textures to the show that kind of pointed that out. I was, like
- 5:30a lot of people, I said, Okay, well the two of them
- 5:32are going to the board. I didn't really put a lot of emphasis on
- 5:35where they went. I don't think in regardless of how you feel about the
- 5:39issue, I don't think. But by going to Brownsville, I think it
- 5:44was that the current president really got a sense of what's going on there.
- 5:49No, no, no, Basically, he's looking at he's looking at a
- 5:53place that has a non existent problem when you have twelve people coming over where
- 5:58you could have gone over to the Tucson sector in Arizona, where you've got
- 6:00seventy three hundred people a day. So what do you see when you go
- 6:05down to see twelve twelve people that come a day, very orderly, not
- 6:11overrun border patrol, you know, easily processed people. When you have thousands
- 6:16and thousands of people and you have the capacity to process them, it's chaos.
- 6:21And that's what he would have seen if he'd gone to some other sectors
- 6:26So the President, Senator Kapitot is due to give his State of the Union
- 6:29speech tomorrow night. What do you expect to come from it? Well,
- 6:31if he dares, which I think, he will get up there and say,
- 6:38this border problem is your problem, Congress, I don't know what kind
- 6:41of reception he's going to get met with. He has he repeatedly says this
- 6:46publicly when we know that the policies of his administration are to blame. Now,
- 6:51is there are the things Congress can do? Yes, But he's the
- 6:56one that has to. So I expect him to say that. I expect
- 7:00him to tell us that our economies are really doing well and inflation has slowed
- 7:05well. I went to the grocery store on Sunday, as I usually do,
- 7:09and I can tell you what I walked out of there. One hundred
- 7:12and twenty five dollars for two people is a lot, when normally it might
- 7:15be seventy seventy five if we're buying for a couple of days. So this
- 7:20is hitting families, it's hitting everybody, these high prices in high inflation.
- 7:26And then the international situation. We've got chaos in obviously Israel, we've got
- 7:30it in Gaza and in Ukraine, over in the Chinese area, our bases
- 7:39are being attacked. I mean, he has to come out with a strong
- 7:42message there. So you know, usually these things things are sort of raw,
- 7:46raw, a fairs up and down and very lengthy. But I think
- 7:49he's going to try to convince us that everything's rosy, and I think the
- 7:54crowd he's going to be talking to, plus the American people are going to
- 7:57have a lot of skepticism about that. Shelley Moore Capito is with us this
- 8:01morning. I'm going to kind of hit you one of the one I left
- 8:03field here sit here. It was announced last week that Mitch McConnell is not
- 8:09going to remain in his current position. Your name has been thrown out there.
- 8:15That been some other names, but your name has been thrown out there
- 8:16any interest at all, and you taken over that position. Well, I
- 8:20am on the leadership team, an elected member of the Republican leadership on the
- 8:24number five out of five, so actually five out of six. So I'm
- 8:28proud to be there and have stood with Leader McConnell the last two years.
- 8:33We're going to miss him. I mean, I know he has his his
- 8:37detractors, but I mean he is a steadfast champion for Cole and for judicial
- 8:43reform and for keeping the wheels on in the Senate. So I'm going to
- 8:48see how this whole thing plays out. You know, there's lots of things
- 8:52in motion. I can't imagine I would be tapped for the head leadership position,
- 8:56but I would like to stay in the leadership. Yes, speaking of
- 9:01presidents, as we were earlier following Super Tuesday, the writing is now on
- 9:05the proverbial wall. We pretty much knew this going in. Former President Trump
- 9:09is going to be the Republican nominee a rematch with current President Joe Biden twenty
- 9:13twenty. Nikki Haley came out earlier that she is suspending her campaign. Official
- 9:18announcement is due. I think around tennerds of this morning in the press conference.
- 9:22Your thoughts on Super Tuesday and a Trump Biden rematch, Well, I
- 9:26think obviously I endorsed President Trump, served under him, and thought the policies
- 9:31not just as the border, but the economic policies and our international policies were
- 9:35strong, very strong under President Trump, and West Virginians by and large embraced
- 9:41the Trump policies. So I do as well. I would say that I'm
- 9:46a little conflicted here, because not little conflicted that sounds I'm not conflicted in
- 9:52my support of President Trump, but I'm conflicted on President Biden because his policies
- 9:58have just failed us, and I just feel like his time is passed.
- 10:03And uh and so I worry that we're going to have a little black kind
- 10:07of campaign because it's it's a rematch, but I think President Trump will do
- 10:11a lot to stir that back up. Senator Cabiteat, And is always a
- 10:16pleasure to have you on the show, and I appreciate you taking time to
- 10:20be here. Thanks a lot. Well, thank you very much. If
- 10:22I could just say one the week of the girls basketball, yes it is.
- 10:26And I normally don't put my foot on the pedal for anybody, but
- 10:31our daughter played. She was a GW Patriot. She never made it to
- 10:33the state tournament. So I know they're top ranked. I wish them good
- 10:37luck. I wish everybody good luck, but especially good luck for them,
- 10:41is what you're saying. Yeah, a little bit extra good luck for the
- 10:43Patriots. That's understandable, Senator. I appreciate it. That's fair, that's
- 10:48fair. I appreciate you being here we'll talk sing thanks a lot, Thank
- 10:50you, sendor, Shelley Moore cabinot Here, I'm a Dave Allen Show and

- 11:22says it's a shame you've not asked about these scuttled Senate bill and said you
- 11:26ask about fueling idiots at the border. Why does Congress not do its job?
- 11:31It's always the president that needs to do it. The job of controlling
- 11:33the border is a congressional job, says a textra textas said Dave Capitol has
- 11:39been in Congress for seventeen years. Where has she been on the border crisis?
- 11:43And all these businesses hiring illegals, including Trump, why aren't they going
- 11:46after them? Economy booming? Well, look, let me just say this,
- 11:50and I can't answer for Senator Capitol on this. As far as the
- 11:54economy is booming, yeah, but I will say, go to the grocery
- 11:58store and tell me we're in a good economic spot. The economy, the
- 12:03hiring, everything may be going well, but at the end of the day,
- 12:07it's going to come down to what do I pay for a loaf of
- 12:09bread? That's what people care about. That's what people care about. Uh
- 12:15Texas. So good of you not to ask Capito why she's failed to do
- 12:18anything on immigration her entire career. There was a bipartisan proposal that was killed
- 12:22by Republicans, but sure, let Capito lie about it, says a texture.
- 12:28Okay, this is actually she addressed. This, says Dave. What
- 12:33the Center Capitol think of. MSNBC's Jempesaki stating I live in Virginia, immigration
- 12:37was the number one issue, ba Zaki said, drawing laughter from Joey Reid.
- 12:41Well, West Virginia does have a border I'm sorry. Virginia does have
- 12:45a border with West Virginia, a very contested area. Rachel Maddow says,
- 12:50the Texas sarcastically chimed in, setting off more chortals from her co host.
- 12:54Despite the MSNBC's crew snide remarks, voters cited immigration as the most important problem
- 13:00facing the US in a recent poll. Well, I mean, you know,
- 13:03I'm one of these people. I hate when people use the term the
- 13:07media, because what exactly is the media? There are so many different layers
- 13:11to what the media is. However, it is it is, and this
- 13:16is my opinion, my opinion only. It is no secret that a large
- 13:20contingent of national media, particularly the ones that lean a little left or a
- 13:26lot left, have a disdain for anything that is not New York, Chicago,
- 13:31Los Angeles and Red States in general. I mean, you see it
- 13:37all the time, Texas. I believe progress is being made on the border
- 13:43security when there's mandatory imprisonment for employers of undocumented immigrant workers. Until then,
- 13:48it's political theater Dave Allen Show, and it's softball questions. It's a tester,
- 13:54all right, We're going to take a break when we come back,
- 13:58right now, we are after this and say we're going to talk to Joey
- 14:00Crawford. He is the Deputy Chief Deputy of the Canaw County Sheriff's Department,

- 16:30like Shelley is angling for Senate leadership. Well, she kind of she addressed
- 16:34that, but I mean she kind of kind of painted it to me like
- 16:38it would be a long shot if she if she were, but she is
- 16:41part of the leadership committee there. He currently serves as the chief deputy for
- 16:45Kenaw County Sheriff's Office, but he'd like to be the league guy there.
- 16:48Sheriff Mike Rutherford, of course, is term limited out can't run again by
- 16:52state code, but Joe Crawford can and he joins us. Now, Joe,
- 16:55good morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning, Dave, Thank
- 16:56you for having me, Thank you for being I think it's the first time
- 16:59you've actual been in studio. It had been on the phone several times with
- 17:03various events. We don't have I mean, we always have crime to talk
- 17:06about, and we'll get into that, but there's nothing major breaking today other
- 17:10than to just talk about your campaign. How many years have you been in
- 17:12law enforcement, Jim Dave, I've been in thirty seven years. I've had
- 17:15a great, great ride, plenty of opportunities. I've been truly, truly
- 17:21blessed in my career. So with that having been said, why why at
- 17:25this point do you want to run for sheriff. You know, I took
- 17:27Sheriff Rother reached out to me and said, hey, Greg Grant Young the
- 17:33chief debt he was returning, he said, Hey, I'd like to meet
- 17:34with you and talk to you and see if you'd be interested. So when
- 17:37he offered me that position, we met and we discussed a couple of things,
- 17:41and you know, I thought, maybe at some point in time I
- 17:45may want to run for sheriff, a long you know, long time prior
- 17:48to that, but that opportunity availed itself, and so, you know,
- 17:52two years later, here I am. I started this journey back in June
- 17:55when I made the decision that I was going to run. I announced my
- 17:59candissy in June of twenty twenty three and had a couple events and kicked it
- 18:03off there. Got overwhelming response and support from a lot of the local people
- 18:11here in the Canal Valley. So what went into that decision at this point?
- 18:15I mean, I know, I mean what I mean, A lot
- 18:18of thoughts because it's a major decision. It was a very, very big
- 18:22decision for me to do that. At first, I wanted to talk to
- 18:26my family, consult my family and make sure that they were on board.
- 18:30Then I wanted to look at you know, uh, is it something that
- 18:34that is doable? And at the end of the day, I did my
- 18:37research and did some homework and went and talked to a couple of people and
- 18:41found out that I had probably a little bit more support than what I thought.
- 18:45And it was at that point, after a careful consideration with my family
- 18:48and praying about it, that you know, I decided to go ahead and
- 18:52throw my name and a hat for share. And it's interesting that you mentioned
- 18:56that about consulting with your family, because anytime that you for any political office,
- 19:00no matter what it is, the family gets impacted as well. But
- 19:03it's a special kind of person. I've always said that could be a law
- 19:07enforcement officer, but it's even more special to be the family member of all
- 19:11because they were bad, just too figuratively speaking, of course, and they
- 19:15have scars just like we did. Yes, yeah, I mean very very
- 19:18few other professions does a spouse or mother or father or you know have to
- 19:23look at him and when they go out the door, and not to be
- 19:26fatalistic, Joe, but to say, you know, there's always a chance
- 19:29that they may not come back today. That's correct. You know, we
- 19:30were fortunate, blessed. Last week we had one of our deputies shot and
- 19:33injured line of duties. Recovering well, we're doing everything to make sure he
- 19:37has everything he needs. He's he's doing really well, and we expect a
- 19:41full recovery. But we always know that that's a possibility when we go out
- 19:45that door, you know. And I've been around it my whole life,
- 19:47Dave. My father, my father was a policeman in South Charleston. That's
- 19:51where I was born and raised. Of course, I got into it at
- 19:55an early age. And now my son, he's he's also a deputy here
- 19:59a the Sheriff's office. He's been in for fifteen or sixteen years. So
- 20:02we got three generations of law enforcement the family. So yeah, we kind
- 20:06of grew up around at all our whole life. Give me your bio.
- 20:08And again we're talking with Joe Crawford, who is candidate for sheriff. He's
- 20:11currently the chief deputy. Give us your bio other than law enforcem what kind
- 20:15of guys, Joe Crawford? What do you like to do away from the
- 20:18badge? I love to play golf. I love Are you any good out
- 20:21of them? I'm not too shabby. I'm not too shabby. I got
- 20:23I got a single digit handicap. Put it out, okay, all right,
- 20:26right, I have since I started his journey, haven't got to play
- 20:27much. But that's okay, Well, what do you become sheriff? Youre
- 20:30gon'na play even last year, realize that probably you better learn to play the
- 20:33video version. That's about all you're gonna get. But go ahead, So
- 20:37you know, I I came through and was able to, you know,
- 20:42make that decision. But a little bit about where I've been and what I've
- 20:48done thirty seven years. I was at Saint Albans for twenty five years.
- 20:52I started my career in Dunbar Police Department back in nineteen eighty six. And
- 20:57when it's a Dunbar, or left Dunbar, went to Saint Aubans, and
- 21:00then I went to I retired in two thousand and six or twenty eleven.
- 21:06I became chief in two thousand and six and twenty eleven. I left to
- 21:08take a job at the Federal courthouse. I was in charge of judicial security
- 21:12at the Southern District in the federal courthouses. I did that for about two
- 21:15years and then took a job chief of police is Eleanor. That was my
- 21:19Mayberry. I call it yeah, good town to be at police in the
- 21:22mean streets of Eleanor, Patty. It was good. I love Eleanor.
- 21:26It was a great, great experience, great people. Know the Mayor of
- 21:29vers are a good friend of mine. Yeah, it's a great place.
- 21:30And then I left there and went to the Attorney General's Office for a year
- 21:34as an investigator for General Morsey. It was the public integrity and political corruption.
- 21:40I did that for about a year, and then with the Yeager Airport
- 21:42for two years and then back to Saint Aubans for five years stand as the
- 21:48chief then and then to the Sheriff's office. So that's kind of the whirlwind
- 21:52of how it got to wear I've been very blessed. I've had a lot
- 21:55of opportunities to be able to have that wide array of experience, and I
- 22:00think it's made me a good choice for candidate for sheriff because I've got all
- 22:06that to help me and I've learned a lot from those experiences. Talking with
- 22:10Joe Crawford again, who's the candidate for sheriff here in Kana County. The
- 22:12Day Valid Show in five eighty Live broad Too part by Bridge Valley. If

- 22:30There's a Bridge Valley dot edu slash apprenticeships today, Joe. A lot
- 22:33of people, I think when they think about someone being the sheriff, they
- 22:37only think about the law enforcement aspect of Obviously that is, that's the big
- 22:41thing, but there's a whole lot under the way that code is set up
- 22:45in West Virginia, the sheriff and the Sheriff's department is responsible for a lot
- 22:49more than just law enforcement. Absolutely, you got five divisions. You have
- 22:53Law Enforcement division, tax division, you know we're chief tax collector. You
- 22:57have home confinement day port. So you have all those different components that the
- 23:06sheriff is responsible for. And it's it. You know, you're looking at
- 23:11a probably close too hundred employees that you managed and supervise, you know,
- 23:15on a daily basis. And the fact that Kanawak County is such a large
- 23:18area, I mean, it's largest county in the state. And when you
- 23:21think about going from one end of Canaan County. I mean, you couldn't
- 23:23get areas in here any more different. You know, you got your more
- 23:26metro areas such as Charles and now I have their own police departments. But
- 23:30you all got you guys all have to work together too. You got Saint
- 23:33Albans, and you got Dunbar, and youve got Charleston South Tarles. But
- 23:36you also got the further region, the Campbell's Creek and all these other places
- 23:38that that you got to get to too. It's sometimes not too easy traveling
- 23:42from Saint Albans to the head of Cabin Creek. Yeah, it's pretty good.
- 23:45Hall, Yeah, it is absolutely great. You know, Kanaw County
- 23:49is nine hundred and eleven square miles. You know, we got the pop
- 23:52la from class I think one hundred and seventy five thousand people and during the
- 23:56day it's a lot more than that. So we we do a great job.
- 24:00We pride ourselves on our men. We had some of the best men
- 24:03and women in law enforcement. Your best commodity is your employees. And we've
- 24:08got a great group of people that go out every day and take care of
- 24:12business and fight to fight every day and they do a great job. Talk
- 24:18about the buy in from the community and the community support that. I mean
- 24:22as somebody who has been in law enforcement as long as you have, and
- 24:26I talked to the new Charleston Police chief about this a couple of weeks ago.
- 24:30I mean, you guys are the best at what you do police officers
- 24:33in general, but you still got to have a lot of buy in,
- 24:34Joe from the community. You do, and I think that's the shift or
- 24:38the difference now of recruiting and retention. And you know, we pride ourselves
- 24:44here at the county. I mean, we've got a great relationship with the
- 24:47County Commission. They've been very, very supportive of the sheriff's officers. Can't
- 24:51say enough about the Commission giving us the funding that we need to make sure
- 24:56we present the best service that we can provide to this citizens and couldn't be
- 25:00done without that. It's a team effort. I mean, that's the thing.
- 25:03There's no individuals in this game, Dave. It's all about a team
- 25:06effort and bringing people together. And life's about relationships. You know, you
- 25:10make those relationships, you protect those relationships, they'll never leave you. And
- 25:15you always have those things I think that's a big part of who I am
- 25:18is because over the years, you know, thirty seven years in this business,
- 25:21it's all been about having good relationships and being able to work together and
- 25:25get things accomplished. Talk about recruiting, you mentioned the numbers I know that
- 25:29are police forces nationwide are having an issue right now with getting people wanting to
- 25:33go into this profession. You've seen it in the different departments that you've been
- 25:40in, not only with the sheriff's part, but also in the municipalities.
- 25:44If you're elected sheriff. How do we get more bodies? How do we
- 25:47get more people to want to go into this Well, I think the frame
- 25:51and the structures there, because I think our pay you know, since I
- 25:53came on board probably about a year and a half into it, we were
- 25:56able to secure a fourteen percent pay raise for our deputies took us to the
- 26:02top of the scale statewide. We're able to do that with the help of
- 26:06the Commission and the funding. So, uh, that's a plus. You
- 26:10know, when you're trying to recruit and retain people, obviously pay as a
- 26:12as a factor of it, but you know, having good equipment, good
- 26:15training, providing them the tools and resource. I think that's that's what a
- 26:21leader is, and I think that's what a manager is in law enforcement is
- 26:26being able to identify those needs and get your men and women the training,
- 26:32the equipment and technology that they need to do their job and be very success
- 26:36successful. And I think we've done a really good job doing that, and
- 26:38I look forward to the future being able to move the department forward with that
- 26:44same type of drive and commitment. Your predecessor, in most people's opinion,
- 26:49Sheriff Mike Rutherford did a good job at Sheriff's pretty pretty big shoes to feel
- 26:53very tall, order to feel you know, Sheriff and I are very good
- 26:57friends and have been for a while, a long time. I remember when
- 27:02I first started, I always looked and saw him around. He's a Saint
- 27:06a Saint Albans guy, so we had that in common. And he started
- 27:10at Saint Auban's PD so in his early career. So he's uh, he's
- 27:15been a good friend. He's been good to me, you know, he's
- 27:18uh, he's pretty solid. Like I said, it is a tall order.
- 27:21You look at what they've accomplished. Somebody just don't get elected four terms
- 27:25as sheriff and not be doing a good job. You know exactly right,
- 27:27what makes you the better candidate? I mean you talked about your experience,
- 27:32but overall, what makes what makes your cross the better candidate? I think
- 27:34that the experience, but I think too being able to work together, reach
- 27:40across the aisle, get things done. I spent a lot of time in
- 27:42the legislature later day, being able to fight bad legislation and stop bad legislation.
- 27:48A lot of times, it's not what you get past, it's what
- 27:51you get stopped, and then be able to work together to find common ground
- 27:55and have good legislation. So I pride myself on that. I did that
- 27:59for about twenty years as the FOP Vice president. So I think, uh,
- 28:03I think having good healthy relationships, being able to work together in the
- 28:07team effort, and you work together as a team, moving moving the department
- 28:11forward to the to the future, and like I said, just looking ahead
- 28:15and making sure they've got the equipment of tools and the technology they need to
- 28:21carry on their mission. We did have the text here because I failed to
- 28:23mention this that if you heard the show yesterday, I said I had a
- 28:26candidate yesterday on that was running for magistrate And somebody said you got to ask
- 28:30them their party affiliation. So your party affiliation is Republican. Okay, all
- 28:34right? Your website, social media, get anything, Facebook, Facebook page,
- 28:41Joey Crawford for Sheriff at gmail dot com. Okay, joe Crawford Sheriff
- 28:48at gmail dot com is my website. So okay, Uh what final thirty?
- 28:53Why should somebody vote for joe Crawford. I think, uh, you
- 28:56know, based on uh A. I think one of the experience. I
- 29:00think I am the most qualified candidate to move and be the sheriff of Kennall
- 29:06County. Nothing against my opponent. My opponent's got twenty seven years in last
- 29:11night we weread a meeting and I acknowledged that and I thank him for his
- 29:14service. But I think the experience that I have, you know, I've
- 29:18got a wide range of experience, and I think I've been able to work
- 29:22at all levels of government. And I think at the end of the day,
- 29:26it's just doing the right thing. You know, sometimes doing the right
- 29:30things not politically correct. It's not popular among the rank and file people,
- 29:34but I think at the end of the day, it's doing what's right.
- 29:37You have to do the right thing, and I've always prided myself and been
- 29:40able to do that. I mean, I'm a proven guy. I've I've
- 29:41been in leadership roles since two thousand and six, so I've got the experience
- 29:47and the knowledge and the drive to be the next year, we issued the
- 29:52Best of Lucky to campaign Joe Joe Crawford, the candidate for Sheriff here at

- 33:02Dave? I am, I am fine. We are on edge about
- 33:07you know, everything here coming down to the end. And you're mark safe
- 33:12from having your helicopter repossessed, Is that right? Yes? You know,
- 33:16the one thing that really helps in the situation is not having a helicopter in
- 33:20the first place. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But the governor, on
- 33:22the other hand, is in a different situation. His Bluestone Industries last Friday
- 33:28was given seventy two hours to turn over the helicopter that has been in dispute
- 33:35to turn over for sale, so that eventually two different lenders, two different
- 33:44financial partners, potentially could reap the proceeds of that sale and somehow split the
- 33:52proceeds between them. The bottom line, though, is that the governor and
- 33:55his Bluestone Industries would be out one helicopter, which is to your disadvantage if
- 34:00you intend to be in the US Senate while also coaching basketball in Greenboro County.
- 34:07Yeah. Yeah, but the season came to an end, so I
- 34:09mean, at least at least for this season. But no, there's no
- 34:13no signs and he's kind of alluded to that if he is elected for Senate
- 34:15that he is going to give that up. You know, Brad. It's
- 34:19it's been an eventful morning in the world of media here in West Virginia.
- 34:21And I'm gonna do a little Dave commentary I call them davidtorials about that a
- 34:24little bit later on. I have far too much respect for you as a
- 34:28real journalist unlike me to ask you to take part, So all fly solo
- 34:30on that one a little bit later on. But I want to talk about
- 34:34budget. The House passed a four point nine to nine billion dollar budget.
- 34:37As you said on X the artist is formally known as Twitter. So so
- 34:40now that that they got that past, what's next? Who knows? And
- 34:46that is one of the excitements and frustrations of being here. So it flies
- 34:53on over to the Senate. But if you were GUPLE listeners, if you
- 34:58were if you heard Senator Eric Are on talk line yesterday, he has concerns
- 35:04about a few things. The four hundred and sixty five million dollar shadow that
- 35:09is haunting the state from the federal government saying that West Virginia took down COVID
- 35:15relief dollars meant to support education. But the federal position seems to be that
- 35:22West Virginia did not uphold its own consistent spending on education, that it dipped.
- 35:29And so the bottom line is West Virginia potentially their negotiations going on,
- 35:32but potentially could be on the hook for up to four hundred and sixty five
- 35:37million dollars to the Feds. And then you know the big issues. Well,
- 35:42another unknown is that the big tax cut the past just last year,
- 35:49the twenty one and a quarter percent income tax cut, now comes potentially with
- 35:53another trigger that could reduce taxes up to ten percent more, but the state
- 35:59doesn't really know yet if it's going to hit that trigger. That'll be determined
- 36:02August into the fall, so another unknown. So, you know, Senator
- 36:07Tara, I think makes actually a reasonable fact based case that they're Although the
- 36:13budget is due right now, there are things that we just don't know.
- 36:16Hanging in the balance is not only the budget, but also the five percent
- 36:22pay raises for public employees, including teachers, that the governor has promised over
- 36:25and over. Senator tar says he's not sure if that actually is affordable by
- 36:30the state this year or in coming years. It's an expense you wouldn't just
- 36:35take on one year. You know, it's in the budget thereafter because you're
- 36:38not reducing people's pay back to what it was the following year. And then
- 36:44a social Security tax the governor promised in his State of the State address a
- 36:46tax cut on the state income taxes on Social Security. The governor wanted to
- 36:52just eliminate that entirely. The House has phased it out over three years and
- 36:59the Senate. The Senate passed bill yesterday. It's hard to understand, but
- 37:01they've pegged it to the trigger. I just talked about. So the higher
- 37:07the trigger is generally for income taxes, the less the Social Security tax cut
- 37:13would be. Anyway, never mind, just mark that off your way forward.
- 37:16But there's all kinds of stuff in the air, and only a few
- 37:21days ago. There's a lot of talk about in May special Session already,
- 37:24and I wouldn't be surprised at all if we come out of this past sixty
- 37:30days still having an answer some of these key questions in May or sooner.
- 37:36Don't give up your hotel room at the Marriot's what you're telling us from of
- 37:38these legislatures. The Dave Allen, Joe and five A and I brought to
- 37:42you apart by General Hardware of Winfield, Milton and General Number of Winfield.

- 37:54Brad. Let's talk about poorn in the libraries. It's back again,
- 37:59because we all know if if you want quality pornography, that your local library
- 38:01is the place to get it. What have they done now? They are
- 38:05combining legislation, which on one side is what really it's popping. On both
- 38:10sides is criminalizing artificial intelligence child pornography. But they're combining that, as best
- 38:16I understand it, with the Library Obscenity Bill. Now, editors note Delegate
- 38:22Joey Garcia of Marion County, who is one of the opponents of the bill.
- 38:24We'll be on with Hopey in the Capitol next hour. So am I
- 38:29reading this right? They're combining the two things. Now, yes you are,
- 38:32And you know that's a deadline situation with the session ending Saturday. But
- 38:37the House passed that Library Obscenity Bill with lots of public consternation, and then
- 38:45it went over to the Senate where senators just sat on it. It was
- 38:49assigned to the Judiciary Committee in I think late February, didn't go anywhere,
- 38:54didn't get taken up. Senate didn't say anything about it, just kind of
- 39:00quiet. And so what you saw the House Judiciary Committee do yesterday was take
- 39:06a bill that was marginally related pornography and artificial intelligence and amended in to try
- 39:17to send it back like a rocket over to the Senate. And it's still
- 39:22got to be potentially voted on now on the house floor. So you know,
- 39:29each day there's less and less time to be dealing with this stuff.
- 39:31But potentially by the end of the week it could be like a keenan ball
- 39:37over there in the Senate and they would have to decide what to do.
- 39:42Interesting, and a sausage machine is sometimes not making sausage. It's sometimes just
- 39:49sort of making moaning noises. And sometimes sausage is splattered on the walls around
- 39:53here, and sometimes it makes like sausage and lobster patties. Brad hen is
- 40:01getting crazy, Brad. We have got to get you out of there,
- 40:05man, you have lost your mind. We have got to get so we're
- 40:07Steven Adams or what we need to Amelia or somebody in there to help you,
- 40:12to get you out of there because you may have officially lost it.
- 40:15I'm kidding, I'm kiddy. You're the best that there is man, all
- 40:16right? So what are you keep an eye on today over there? Brad
- 40:22Well, I mean any movement on the budget. But there are a couple
- 40:23of things. This is the way it is. I will I will confide
- 40:28in you. Nothing is really happening at all that would be of interest until
- 40:31one o'clock, and then all the things are happening. So this is what
- 40:35I mean about the sausage machine. Okay, it's gonna the sausage machine is
- 40:38not going to be cracking out any sausage, and then it's gonna overheat.
- 40:42At one pm, and in the Senate Health Committee, they're doing on the
- 40:47agenda is the broadening of vaccination exemptions for school kids in West Virginia. At
- 40:53the same time one o'clock, the House Education Committee is supposed to be taking
- 40:59up the student discipline bill that you've heard a lot about, trying to figure
- 41:04out if kids are disruptive or total bullies or even dangerous, how to potentially
- 41:09isolate them from the kids in the main classroom so the kids in the main
- 41:14classroom can continue to learn that that has been how to go about that has
- 41:19been divisive between the House and the Senate, and then the Senate. The
- 41:22House Education Committee, which has that student discipline bill at one o'clock. At
- 41:28the same time on the agenda has a bill that would allow student athletes on
- 41:34their school teams to also do travel ball at the same time, and that's
- 41:38been controversial as well. So all the things are happening at one o'clock.
- 41:44But the usual caveat is that they could just as easily be pulled off agendas
- 41:47and not happen at all. That's what happens throughout the session, especially in
- 41:52these last couple of days as the clock is taking rad I want to try
- 41:55to have you on if you've got time. Maybe one day next week we'll
- 41:59do a recap of everything if you're or you may just want a detox for
- 42:01a while after being there for the last fifty five or so days, So
- 42:06I'll get with you a little bit later on. Brad will be following your
- 42:08stuff online and on the air. I appreciate it, man, thanks a
- 42:10lot. Hey, thanks you, Brad mclanney. I just don't know where
- 42:15Brad was going with that. I mean he starts something by lobster and sausage
- 42:17and we can. You gotta get him out of there, man, We

- 47:04a little programming if you're coming up on the show tomorrow. We have
- 47:08heard all about the controversy surrounding the high cost of prescription drugs, So well,
- 47:12what if I told you that there is a pharmacy that is fighting against
- 47:15the high cost. It seems kind of crazy, but we're going to get
- 47:19into that on the show tomorrow. One local pharmacy is taking issue with the
- 47:22cost of prescription drugs. Now, it is a complicated story that involves Peia,
- 47:28It involves a legislature and some major pharmaceutical chains as well. We're going
- 47:31to do a deep dive into that tomorrow, Texas, Dave, we now
- 47:36have a legislature's war on women, communities, and now it's on school children
- 47:40and libraries according to a texture, all right, so how to address this?
- 47:49Late last night on the interwebs comes a story reported from a Pittsburgh news
- 47:54site called The Pittsburgh Observer about one of the four leading Republican candidates for governor
- 48:04being gay. Now, the headline reads blank could become West Virginia's first gay
- 48:13governor. And I'm leaving the name out because I have a tendency not to
- 48:17deal in tabloid crap on this show, especially when it comes from a fake
- 48:22news site, which it obviously is. I mean, they tried to make
- 48:31it look real, but a simple Google search shows that it's from a website
- 48:38that is obviously not real. Unfortunately, all the good that technology provides,
- 48:46it also provides the ability to do stuff like this to make things look like
- 48:51they're coming from a real site, which they are not, and that does
- 48:54not keep people from sharing it all over social media tech, et cetera.
- 49:01And and that is that's the point behind it, is just to get it
- 49:07out there. It came out like at some point late last night, and
- 49:14I got up this morning to like ten thousand texts about it being shared.
- 49:22And of course, if you know, I wondered about even bringing it up
- 49:28on the show because I thought, well, maybe I'm adding a little bit
- 49:30more fuel to the fire here. But it's from a fake news site.
- 49:36It's not to mean again except well Google's your friend, as they say,
- 49:39you can find it's not from a real website. But once something is out
- 49:44there, as they say, you can't put the ketchup back in the bottom.
- 49:46And so it's out there, and I have my speculations as to who
- 49:55was behind it. But again I use on this show not to engage in
- 50:05TMZ inside edition kind of stuff. I mean, it's out there, no
- 50:14pun intended, and if you haven't seen it yet, you will, you
- 50:17will. And just remember that someone wanted to bury a political candidate in the
- 50:30state for a state race so badly that either either they or their people took
- 50:40the time to create a fake news site and to create a fake story.
- 50:46I don't know about people's personal lives or their sexuality, nor do I care.
- 50:57That's just me speaking, not as talk show speaking as voters. And
- 51:00when I saw something like that, fake or not, is it going to
- 51:06give me pause to vote for the person? This is just me speaking personally,
- 51:08not the opinions of the advertisers of this show or anybody else affiliated with
- 51:14us. No, no, sorry, it's not. Now. There are
- 51:19those and I was talking to somebody about it earlier day that say that it
- 51:22will make a difference. Uh, I don't know. It's it's simply I'm
- 51:29kind of one of those people. It's none of my business who people sleep
- 51:32with. I don't. I just I simply don't care. It's none of
- 51:37my business what people do in their personal lives. I know it's an old
- 51:39school kind of thought, but let me knock. Have a couple of text
- 51:45here. I had got to get to the ones that are serious here.
- 51:47Okay, well, okay, I can't read that. I do the best
- 51:52I could. I do the best I could. Uh not, even says
- 51:55a textra a good attempt to crush this person. Website only opened like a
- 52:00week ago. Okay, another conspiracy here. All right, so well,
- 52:07anyway, we solved nothing. Might be bringing that up, by the way,
- 52:09just so you know, solved absolutely nothing, but all right, all
- 52:14right, we gotta go. Thanks to u Joe Crawford, candidate for sheriff
- 52:17here in Kanana County, for stopping by. Of course he's also the chief
- 52:20deputy. Thanks to Joe Crawford. Thanks to Senator Sheldy more Capital for being
