- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello, Hi, is this Sherry.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Yes, this is Jerry.
- 0:06Speaker 1: This is Gabe Glinden and Angie from The Big ninety
- 0:09Speaker 1: eight point seven Morning Show. How are you doing today?
- 0:11Speaker 2: I'm doing well. How are you doing?
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm doing great. You know I'm doing better because we're
- 0:15Speaker 1: on the phone with you. This is one of our
- 0:17Speaker 1: favorite things of the year, not just what the Big
- 0:21Speaker 1: Christmas Wish is, but reading and hearing all of these
- 0:24Speaker 1: wonderful things about people right here in our community. Cherry,
- 0:29Speaker 1: you are a teacher. Can you tell us what grade
- 0:31Speaker 1: do you teach, what subject? What school? Give us kind
- 0:34Speaker 1: of the whole nine yards.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Yes, I am a sixth grade teacher at Horizon Middle
- 0:39Speaker 2: School in the Moorhead Public Schools, and I teach social
- 0:42Speaker 2: studies and science.
- 0:43Speaker 3: And can you tell us what we call you? Missus?
- 0:47Speaker 2: Missus driver gip okay.
- 0:49Speaker 3: So this is how I came to know you through
- 0:53Speaker 3: this nomination that we got from a student of yours
- 0:57Speaker 3: named Maddie. She sent us this nomination and we were
- 1:00Speaker 3: really struck by this, and I'm going to read it
- 1:02Speaker 3: to you. She said. Missus Dryberg is my sixth grade
- 1:06Speaker 3: teacher at Horizon West Middle School. She does all she
- 1:09Speaker 3: can for her students and the other students. She's really
- 1:12Speaker 3: kind and helps us whenever we need. She has this
- 1:16Speaker 3: thing called Letter to Missus Dryberg. It's where we write
- 1:19Speaker 3: out problems and needs on a paper and sign it
- 1:22Speaker 3: and give it to her. So if we need food,
- 1:25Speaker 3: she gives us food, water, clothes, and even if we
- 1:28Speaker 3: have home problems, etc. I feel that she needs to
- 1:33Speaker 3: win this big Christmas wish.
- 1:35Speaker 2: That is so sir.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I know when I read this, I immediately it really
- 1:45Speaker 3: struck me because I've always felt this way that teachers
- 1:48Speaker 3: are really the backbone of any community. And you are
- 1:53Speaker 3: one of those teachers who it's clear you go above
- 1:56Speaker 3: and beyond for your students. And when I was growing up,
- 2:02Speaker 3: there were a lot of things that I lacked in
- 2:05Speaker 3: my home life, and it was a teacher like yourself
- 2:09Speaker 3: who really put themselves out there to help me feel
- 2:13Speaker 3: seen and validated. And it is a parent that this
- 2:16Speaker 3: is what you do. Oh my gosh, it is a
- 2:20Speaker 3: parent that this is what you do for your students
- 2:23Speaker 3: as well, And so we wanted.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Try to you know, yeah, you know, we talk, We
- 2:29Speaker 2: talk about all the time that there's so much going
- 2:31Speaker 2: on in people's lives that we don't know, and it's
- 2:33Speaker 2: really hard to ask for help or you know, show
- 2:37Speaker 2: those things to others, and so we just talk about
- 2:39Speaker 2: being kind and empathetic because we just don't know. So yeah,
- 2:44Speaker 2: I do the letter every Monday just as a way
- 2:46Speaker 2: for kids to tell me or have an opportunity to
- 2:48Speaker 2: tell me when things come up, if needed.
- 2:51Speaker 1: So that's such a great outlet that you give for kids.
- 2:55Speaker 1: And I think it's if you take nothing else from today.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Obviously we're for you some exciting news, but if you
- 3:02Speaker 1: take nothing else from today, just know how old are
- 3:05Speaker 1: you in sixth grade? Are you twelve, eleven, eleven, twelve? Well,
- 3:09Speaker 1: just know that at some point one of those students
- 3:12Speaker 1: might be thirty eight years old and talking about a
- 3:15Speaker 1: teacher just like you. So that's one of those life lasting,
- 3:19Speaker 1: lifelong impacts that appears you're going to make on many
- 3:24Speaker 1: kids lives. So I think that's just wonderful.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 3:28Speaker 3: We love that you are such a safe space for
- 3:30Speaker 3: these kids, and so we wanted to grant you a
- 3:33Speaker 3: big Christmas wish today of five hundred dollars.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Wow, that is amazing, what a blessing at this time
- 3:43Speaker 2: of the year.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And it sounds. Yes, you're going to know exactly what
- 3:47Speaker 1: to use that five hundred dollars for you, and you
- 3:49Speaker 1: know what it can be used to whatever you want.
- 3:51Speaker 1: If you want to buy Christmas gifts for yourself, if
- 3:53Speaker 1: you want to take a day trip maybe, if you
- 3:56Speaker 1: want to restock some of the supplies with your classroom
- 3:59Speaker 1: for who need water or clothes. As Maddie told us,
- 4:03Speaker 1: we know you deserve it and you're going to use
- 4:05Speaker 1: it well and we hope it really helps you out.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Thank you. Yes, And we actually have a wonderful pair
- 4:10Speaker 2: in a room that has had a lot of loss lately,
- 4:13Speaker 2: and I know would be greatly blessed with this donation too,
- 4:17Speaker 2: So I'll make sure it goes to good use to
- 4:19Speaker 2: people in our classroom.
- 4:21Speaker 3: For sure. It is unsurprising to me that you would
- 4:24Speaker 3: want to pay it forward. It really speaks to your character.
- 4:28Speaker 3: And just thank you so much for all that you do.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you so much. I really appreciate it
- 4:33Speaker 2: so much.
