- 0:12Keaton, Melvin Martin, Andrew Schrock and Dan Blatz.
- 0:16Let's get right to it. All righty, here we are again on
- 0:20a Monday night looking forward to digging into the gospel and
- 0:26Colossians at least a part of it for sure the word of God and
- 0:30still welcome. Thanks for being here again,
- 0:33Cameron and David appreciate you being all here and the others
- 0:38that are on a different platforms appreciate that simply
- 0:42Christ ministries. You could Google that and find
- 0:44all the previous episodes there. If you watch on podcast or
- 0:50YouTube, like share a thumbs up, all that would be beneficial.
- 0:56We appreciate that. Any kind of promotion that you
- 1:00can do, of course, is good for others that could maybe hear and
- 1:04learn something of the scripture that they haven't heard or
- 1:09whatever before. So we appreciate that,
- 1:12appreciate that. And Melvin being on here, I'm
- 1:14assuming probably Andrew will be out here as well.
- 1:18He had a long weekend with their family camp that we talked about
- 1:21the last two weeks a little bit. So he's going to be.
- 1:26On here, on the summit. If he didn't get hung up
- 1:28somewhere. So if not, we'll go from here.
- 1:31So before we go any further, Dan will kick us off with a word of
- 1:34prayer. Father, we're grateful that we
- 1:38can gather like this remotely. Different countries, different
- 1:43provinces, different states, and people from all over are able to
- 1:47tune in, both live and afterward.
- 1:49We receive this as a gift from You, God.
- 1:52We're not afraid of it because we recognize that You have made
- 1:55all these things. We pray, God, that you would
- 1:58bless our time and Your word, that even through the distance,
- 2:02even through the technology, that Your Word would be alive
- 2:05and sharp as it is promised to be.
- 2:08Pray that you would have an impact on our own souls and on
- 2:11those that hear it. Father, we do pray that you
- 2:14would bring these words so that we are attempting to speak to
- 2:17those people that are in desperate need, those that are
- 2:21hurting, those that are in doubt, those that are perhaps
- 2:24condemned. We ask God that you would by
- 2:26your Spirit make some people alive through your word because
- 2:30of this message tonight, because of our study, we thank you for
- 2:33being with us. We pray to guide our
- 2:35conversation and our study in Jesus name, Amen.
- 2:37Amen. Yeah.
- 2:41So I was, yeah, at the camp there in Ohio, of course, Friday
- 2:47afternoon and Saturday and Sunday that I had the
- 2:50opportunity to sit down and talk with a young guy from Wisconsin,
- 2:56a young family. He's, I don't know if he's
- 3:00listened, he'll probably laugh at me, but I'd say he's 30 or 35
- 3:03somewhere that ballpark young guy and he's an entrepreneur
- 3:06kind of guy. We were talking about how that
- 3:08in American, I'm sure Canada is the same way to a certain degree
- 3:11anyway, how that how that opportunity abounds and how that
- 3:15there's just no excuse for not having, you know, being broke
- 3:21and not being able to find a job or do something or whatever
- 3:24opportunity abounds. We got to talking about, you
- 3:27know what he has a heating and heating and HVAC business.
- 3:33And we were talking about how that it just explodes for him.
- 3:36Like he has all the work that he can ever do.
- 3:39And I was asking him what he thinks are some of the key
- 3:44things that you can do as a business.
- 3:48And you guys are both kind of self-employed.
- 3:50And I just kind of wonder what your input on it's like what are
- 3:52some of the things that you can set yourself apart within a
- 3:54business? What are some of the things that
- 3:56would help a young guy start a business that he should know?
- 3:59One of the things that he said, we were talking about it and I,
- 4:02I agree with this too, that just, you know, answer your
- 4:05phone. If someone calls you, answer
- 4:07your phone and, and, or call back.
- 4:09Like be courteous enough to answer or if you can't answer a
- 4:14call back at your earliest convenience, like reply to
- 4:16everybody and then just do a good job.
- 4:18And he said that that amazingly sets you above 80% of the
- 4:23businesses out there, just that you know, so I didn't know if
- 4:26you guys have any other input on stuff like that.
- 4:29I I found that conversation really interesting.
- 4:31Well as soon as you brought it up my answer was going to be
- 4:33very very similar. My wife sent a an Instagram reel
- 4:37to to me and the kids the other day and it said this.
- 4:40A simple cheat code for life is just be easy to work with,
- 4:44respond quickly, do what you said you do be pleasant.
- 4:48An alarming number of people suck at all of this.
- 4:55It's not simple. Like I'm no genius.
- 4:57I don't do like, I, I don't have some exceptional IQ that I can
- 5:01do the work that I do extraordinarily.
- 5:04I just do it as faithfully as I can.
- 5:06I respond to people as quickly as possible.
- 5:08I, I respond, I tell them when I'm going to be a little bit
- 5:12late on something I could just keep.
- 5:13It's so simple, right? And, and I can't, I can't keep
- 5:17up with the work right. So it's it's very simple recipe.
- 5:21Yeah, it, it is amazing to me how many people that you call
- 5:25and they say, hey, I'll call you back in an hour or two and you
- 5:28never hear back and you actually have to call them again if you
- 5:31wanted to answer. And that to me, I usually won't
- 5:34call back unless it's, you know, a one off business that I can't
- 5:37find something somewhere else. But yeah, now with any ideas,
- 5:41any, anything that sticks out to you?
- 5:43Yeah, I think communication is the biggest key, like with your
- 5:47customers and just being real with them.
- 5:50You know, I think not making promises that you can't keep
- 5:56right, just being. And if you do promise then
- 5:59something then and you can't fulfill that promise, then let
- 6:04them know exactly because I tell you it is.
- 6:07You're right that it's so disgusting how people, how other
- 6:14contractors and especially in the contracting world, like in
- 6:18the in the trades, it's it's just crazy how some people
- 6:22operate or most of the people operate.
- 6:24And so, yeah, if you are communication, open
- 6:28communication at all times with your customer and just being
- 6:32real with them, even like I found is sitting down and just
- 6:37spending some time with the customer.
- 6:39Like even before, like even when you go meet with them to look at
- 6:45the job, it just like, you know, ask questions about them and
- 6:50their family and, and just be real with them and, and being
- 6:54confident, you know, even like sometimes some customer will ask
- 6:59me if I can do this certain thing.
- 7:02And maybe I haven't done it hardly before, but I would say
- 7:08sure, we can do that. And, and, and then I'll do the
- 7:12research I have to do or whatever to make sure that I can
- 7:16perform that whatever that customer is asking if I have not
- 7:20done it before. So just being confident and just
- 7:25being real because most people are not real with people.
- 7:29And, and The thing is, is, yeah, go ahead.
- 7:33I'm just going. To say you're kind of selling
- 7:35yourself, right? Yeah, you are.
- 7:37That's, that's correct. Because people can sense if you
- 7:40are there to do a good job, like if you can do it, if you're
- 7:44going to do a good job and you're there to please them and,
- 7:49and do the what they need done in the most timely and perfect
- 7:54manner as you can, they can sense that versus someone that
- 7:58is just simply doing it to make money like that, that all that
- 8:02matters is to the money people. Customers can sense that.
- 8:07I've got a question for you, though, Leon.
- 8:08Like I, I work by myself. I sometimes hire out certain
- 8:12things to engineers or, or those kinds of things, HVAC
- 8:15professionals that do the design.
- 8:17But it feels like a whole different thing when you're
- 8:20actually running a business where you're, you're, you've got
- 8:23employees and you've got schedules and you've got things
- 8:25that have to be done. You can't always predict the
- 8:28outcomes. You can't promise too much,
- 8:30right? Yeah, yeah, well, I mean a big
- 8:33part of that is, is knowing what your team is capable of.
- 8:36You know, like one guy said in that situation, he said under
- 8:40promise and over deliver, never do it the other way around.
- 8:44Like if if you're not quite sure on the guy, be honest with, you
- 8:47know, or or maybe under promise a little bit from what you
- 8:50normally would at least that if it it they don't doesn't
- 8:54disappoint them. If it's not quite what what you
- 8:56know, they were what it could have been, you know, so that
- 9:00that would be the one thing I would say the other thing at two
- 9:02yeah, like you got to know what your your guys is capable of
- 9:05doing for sure. But but just in general, this is
- 9:09one. This is one thing that I find I
- 9:11find it interesting. This usually puts a customer
- 9:13into my lap and ready to do business when I walk in, you
- 9:18know, cold call guy calls me, Hey, I want to sell my stuff.
- 9:20I walk in the and one of my first questions usually is like,
- 9:24OK, yeah, I'm here as an auctioneer, but what do you want
- 9:27to have? What do you want to have happen
- 9:29here? Like, and and I like, like, what
- 9:32would you if in the best world possible, what would happen
- 9:35here? You know, and some people will
- 9:37say, well, I just want this load off my shoulders and this mess
- 9:40out of my hair. OK, we can do that.
- 9:42Some people say, well, I got some really expensive antiques
- 9:46and I'm nervous about what they're going to bring.
- 9:48OK, we're your guy because we can do it this way.
- 9:50We could take very careful consideration, advertise it,
- 9:54probably make sure it's good. And it's amazing how many people
- 9:58you know. They actually, some guys just
- 10:00want it out of their hair. And then I talked to him about
- 10:03our full service offering. We do everything from A-Z.
- 10:05You don't even have to show up. Give us the code to your door
- 10:08and the next time you see your house, it'll be empty and
- 10:10shining, ready for the realtor. And they're like, where do I
- 10:12sign? Where do I sign?
- 10:14And the next guy would not want that.
- 10:15He would not be comfortable. He'd like to watch every step of
- 10:17the process. So I, I agree with what Melvin
- 10:20was saying. Just being there and hearing
- 10:22what the customer actually wants is, is a big deal.
- 10:26Like, and that's how I feel when someone comes in Tooting their
- 10:29horn about what they can do and the equipment they have and the
- 10:33capabilities, but they never take the time to ask me what I
- 10:36actually wonder how I want it done.
- 10:38I feel kind of left out of the equation.
- 10:40Absolutely. Yeah.
- 10:42Yeah, because you are working for them.
- 10:46Yeah. It's not about you, it's about
- 10:49them. No, it's not.
- 10:50They're they're paying me. So they're going to, they're
- 10:52going to get to say what I do, that I'm their servant then.
- 10:55So yeah. That's.
- 10:58Good. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:59It's I always fight that. Kind of thing and always do your
- 11:02work like it was your own like if you do that people, people
- 11:07see that and and they're you're they're sold.
- 11:10I mean they can see that you care about what you're doing.
- 11:14So that's. Well, that that goes even for
- 11:17being an employee like so many people think that once they
- 11:21finally run a business, they'll serve well or they'll do a good
- 11:24job and till then they don't really care.
- 11:27But if you take the biblical advice of not with eye service
- 11:30as men pleasers and do your job as unto the Lord, not as unto
- 11:34men, all of a sudden, every single day is redeemed and
- 11:37you're doing a spiritual work every day.
- 11:40Whether you're going to some mundane farm job that you're
- 11:43sorting through cucumbers or like, I mean, everything you do.
- 11:46And it doesn't take long to where your employer is going to
- 11:49notice and pick up pick up on, hey, this guy's never standing
- 11:52around. They always show up on time.
- 11:54They're sweeping when there's nothing to do, like just
- 11:56they're, they're steadily working.
- 11:57They're working for something higher than what this job pays
- 12:00right. Your motivation is not just the
- 12:03paycheck. The motivation is I'm serving
- 12:05the Lord from heaven. Yeah, I mean, even if there's,
- 12:09even if you're scraping the menorah alleys in a in a dairy
- 12:12barn, be the best menorah scraper that ever existed, you
- 12:16know what I mean? Yeah, that's the and that goes
- 12:19exactly with what the context is tonight like Colossians 310 says
- 12:24and I put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after
- 12:27the image of him that created him where there is there neither
- 12:30Greek Jew he goes on. But you know, part of part of
- 12:34walking out the Christian life is doing just this doing a good
- 12:38job at whatever you do. You know your ministry and we
- 12:41were talking to I was talking with a different guy.
- 12:43Your ministry isn't does just what you do for God like this,
- 12:47this podcast, this isn't the only ministry that I have.
- 12:51My business is by and large a reflection of who I am in
- 12:55Christ. Actually, it is.
- 12:57It had better be and and that is actually how people read you,
- 13:01whether you like it or not. I mean, if you are touting
- 13:04Christ and ripping people off and offering 1/2 paced service,
- 13:11I don't think they're going to have a good image of
- 13:12Christianity because of that, you know?
- 13:14One of the one of the qualifications of an elder is
- 13:18that you have a good reputation of them that are without without
- 13:22the congregation, right? They know how you operate.
- 13:24If somebody recognizes that, hey, I might not agree with his
- 13:28views, but he does what he's what he said he's going to do
- 13:30and he's kind and he's gentle and, you know, like all those
- 13:33things are there, right? Your life, your life should your
- 13:38whole life should represent price.
- 13:40I mean, I've had customers. I mean, one time, a couple of
- 13:43times it happened one time specifically sticks out in my
- 13:46mind. I had this lady call me and she
- 13:47was a pretty well to do lady and she called me and she wanted me
- 13:53to do this job for and I gave her price on it.
- 13:55She said go ahead and and I've never actually met her in
- 13:58person. And she gave me the code to her
- 14:02house and said, you go in and you do whatever you need to do,
- 14:06you know, and and I never actually physically met her.
- 14:10Now, why did she trust me? Like I don't know why she
- 14:13trusted me. Like she gave me access to whole
- 14:16whole property. And she had she was wealthy.
- 14:20She had a lot of things, you know, and I know I got
- 14:24recommended by someone else to her.
- 14:26And that's the other thing. If you can grow your business,
- 14:29if you do your job well and you respond to your customers like
- 14:32we're saying, and you, you will never have to advertise ever in
- 14:37your life because your customers will recommend you to someone
- 14:41else. And that is how you'll get your
- 14:43jobs. And you will never.
- 14:45You'll be busy beyond busy. And they'll be their best
- 14:48customer too, if they come recommended.
- 14:51Yeah, they're, they're easier to work with than the ones that
- 14:53find you on Google. I I've discovered that there's a
- 14:55difference because the ones on Google, you're just another
- 14:57business. If their friend recommended
- 14:59them, they're you're pretty pretty much in so verse 12 says
- 15:04put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved bowels
- 15:08of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mine, weakness,
- 15:10long-suffering. And it goes on there into verse
- 15:1213. But again, very relevant to what
- 15:16we're talking about really in a lot of different ways, but as as
- 15:21part of our life. You know why why is it that God
- 15:24would have his his children, the believers.
- 15:29You know, why is it that he would instruct us to put on
- 15:34bells of mercies, kindness, humbleness of my meekness and
- 15:37long-suffering anyway? I mean, because we're a
- 15:39reflection of him. I don't know.
- 15:41Yeah. And go ahead with your thoughts
- 15:43on verse 12. Yeah, I would say every time
- 15:46that you show mercy to someone as the elect of God because of
- 15:53his mercy and kindness to us, if you put on mercy, you show mercy
- 15:56to someone who does not deserve it.
- 15:59Anytime you love someone unconditionally, whether they
- 16:01deserve it or not, every time you give up your own agenda and
- 16:04submit yourself to someone else, every time you forgive someone
- 16:08that shouldn't be forgiven. You know, I'm moving into verse
- 16:1013 a little bit there, but you're giving God glory and
- 16:13you're not living by principles and philosophy in vain deceit.
- 16:18You're not trying desperately to give up your own desires and and
- 16:22no, no honor satisfying in the flesh like in chapter 2.
- 16:25This is a whole different way of living because we have been
- 16:28crucified with Christ because we are alive with him, because
- 16:31we're seated together with Christ in the heavenly places,
- 16:33because he's been so incredibly merciful to us.
- 16:36Therefore, just as a simple reaction to the goodness and
- 16:40grace of God, just put on these things and it's like you put
- 16:44your shirt on in the morning, put on as the elect of God,
- 16:47beloved, holy and beloved bowels of mercies.
- 16:50The word bowels is an interesting word.
- 16:52It almost not doesn't fit our lingo anymore right?
- 16:55Like we would say love from the heart or be merciful and
- 16:58compassionate from your heart. But we do talk about having a
- 17:01pit in our stomach or butterflies in our stomach, or
- 17:05it could feel it in my gut, right?
- 17:06Like there, there is this place deep within where you can reach
- 17:10to now, now that you've been shown mercy and you can also
- 17:13show mercy. And I don't think this kind of
- 17:15mercy is really possible apart from understanding how merciful
- 17:19God is to you. And so that kindness and that
- 17:22humbleness of mine and the meekness and the long-suffering,
- 17:26the ability to suffer continually if need be, suffer
- 17:31for a long time. It only comes to understanding
- 17:34that he suffered long for us. He was kind.
- 17:36The kindness and love of God appeared on the man.
- 17:38Titus talks about that. He was humble.
- 17:41He put upon himself or he took upon himself the form of a
- 17:44servant. All these things are lessons
- 17:46we've learned from Christ. They're not me trying to be
- 17:48religious. They're not me trying to rule my
- 17:51flesh. It's hey, my flesh been dealt
- 17:54with. My position in Christ is dealt
- 17:56with, my authority is dealt with.
- 17:58My, you know, all of that is there and it's clear.
- 18:01So now I'm just going to Simply put on as the beloved of God,
- 18:05these these beautiful attributes that are reflections of who God
- 18:09is. And so each time we do that, in
- 18:12some small way, we are picturing the gospel to someone else.
- 18:16And that's how we can then glorify God because this is the
- 18:19epitome of who he is. This is the crux of the
- 18:22Scriptures. This is what all the Old
- 18:24Testament pointed towards. This is all that we're pointing
- 18:26back towards is Christ and what he did for us.
- 18:29And we can tell people that. And I don't think you can preach
- 18:32the gospel without telling it, but your actions, your
- 18:35day-to-day interactions can be reflections of that thing, that
- 18:39gospel message. And so kindness, mercy, love,
- 18:42humbleness of mind, meekness, all of those things are
- 18:45reflections of what Christ has done for us.
- 18:48Yeah, which is our reasonable service, he says.
- 18:53Yeah, it really is. Yeah, Melvin.
- 18:56Yeah, I think I had to think that.
- 18:59You have to remember that this is in the context of the new
- 19:01man. Like he's he's he's laying it
- 19:04out what what it looks like, what the new man looks like.
- 19:08Previously he had given us a list of what the old man looks
- 19:13like. And you know, the fornication
- 19:17uncleanness in order to faction that whole is anger, malice,
- 19:22blasphemy, filthy and communication out of your mouth.
- 19:25And he's saying you have, you have put off that you have put
- 19:29off the old man and you have put on the new man.
- 19:33And now he is. He's saying this is what the new
- 19:36man looks like, because look what it says in verse.
- 19:42Let's say put it. Find me, I scrolled up a little
- 19:44too far. Look what he says in verse 10.
- 19:47He says and have put on the new man which is renewed in
- 19:51knowledge after the image of him that created him.
- 19:54So in other words, the new man is created in the image of
- 19:58Christ. Right and so this is what it
- 20:02looks like that this is what it looks like for us as a new man
- 20:06this because he's saying you have put off those previous
- 20:09things and now you have put on the new man.
- 20:12And this is what it is. And it's, you know, beloved
- 20:16bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness,
- 20:21long-suffering. And it's just Neil, go on with
- 20:26more there in verse 13. But the humbleness of mine, I
- 20:30guess stuck stuck out to me as well.
- 20:33It's just like what that exactly looks like humbleness of mine.
- 20:37I think it for us to be humble, we, you can fabricate
- 20:42humbleness, right? I mean, many people can
- 20:44fabricate humbleness, but humbleness of mine, if, if
- 20:49you're, if your mind, if your mind is humble, if you're
- 20:52mindful to be humble, it will happen automatically, right?
- 20:56It's not a fabricated thing and then meekness and long-suffering
- 21:00out. This is actually convicted me
- 21:02reading through this because you know, this is what the new man
- 21:07is actually so. Yeah, for sure.
- 21:11And and I like, like what it says in Ephesians 424.
- 21:16It says it this way, that that, yeah, put on the new man, which
- 21:19after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
- 21:22You know, Dad, you were saying that this is something that the
- 21:24the new man, the believer does or is expected that we would do.
- 21:30And it's because this new man is created after God in
- 21:33righteousness and holiness. Like this would be this this
- 21:36kind of thing is going to be really hard for an unbeliever to
- 21:39pull off for any length of time. Yeah, you can fool the guys for,
- 21:42you know, Sunday morning church service, but in business, that
- 21:47would be a really good example. Like who are you when you're out
- 21:50of the job site and you and and something's not.
- 21:52Are you having a bad day? You know, is your Christian
- 21:55going to shine out? Is that that that's created
- 21:57after godliness and true righteousness?
- 21:59You know, is that going to shine out or is it that old man?
- 22:02You know, I, I mean, I, that's really, that's really what we're
- 22:05talking is if now when you were saying like it's like a mind of
- 22:11humbleness, humbleness of mind, it says, I agree.
- 22:15Like you could act humble for a minute.
- 22:17But if you have a mind of humbleness, that is something
- 22:20that is within you, You don't have to decide to be humble if
- 22:22that's an idea. Well, in in Colossians chapter 2
- 22:27verse 18, he says, let no man beguile you of your reward in a
- 22:31voluntary humility. So it's not this idea of trying
- 22:35to humble yourself. You're not trying to put
- 22:38yourself down. You're not trying to become
- 22:40less. You're simply recognizing who
- 22:43you are and you're having a real view of who you are, right?
- 22:47You're not. You're not trying to think that
- 22:50you're like pretending like you less than you actually think you
- 22:52are. You're, you're just real with
- 22:54who you are. And you're recognizing God for
- 22:56who he is. Right.
- 22:57Amen. Yeah.
- 22:58Amen. That's good.
- 22:59That voluntary humility stuff. It, it comes across as so false,
- 23:03pious and so religious that it rubs people the wrong way.
- 23:06Like, who am I supposed to be now in your presence because
- 23:09you're so humble, right? Like, it just, it's so weird.
- 23:13So the humbleness of mine is a whole different category, right?
- 23:18Where I'm not trying to put on a show.
- 23:20I'm not trying to appear humble, I'm just recognizing who I am.
- 23:24Yeah, that's good, Dan. I like that that that is that's
- 23:27dead on. Homeless is not trying to make
- 23:30yourself lower than who you're actually are.
- 23:33Because he has gone through a pretty big list of where we are
- 23:37in Christ and where we stand in Christ, you know?
- 23:40So yeah, well, actually just the the beginning of this verse.
- 23:44I was this is maybe a little bit of a buddy hole, but he says
- 23:48they're put on therefore, as the elect of God.
- 23:51So are these the people that that God decided before we were
- 23:55ever formed in mother's womb that we would be believers?
- 23:59Are we are is it talking to those elect or how much of A
- 24:03Calvinist are we here? And but, but what I really like
- 24:08like is that it says that you are holy and beloved.
- 24:14We are the elect of God that are holy and beloved.
- 24:16Like if you just ponder kind of thing for a second, he is
- 24:19calling us holy. And have you ever considered
- 24:22what holy actually means? I mean, that's perfect
- 24:24righteous, perfectly righteous through the blood of Jesus, of
- 24:28course. And beloved, he he we, we
- 24:31actually, we're not a we're not somebody that he just kind of
- 24:37wishes would do the right thing. So we stay out of his sight, not
- 24:40bring up problems, right? He is somebody that actually
- 24:44loves being around us. He loves having us as his
- 24:48children. He doesn't.
- 24:50It's not hard for him to deal with us because he loves us
- 24:54through his son Jesus. The way has been made that he
- 24:57can just openly love us and let the the that grace and mercy
- 25:02rain down on us and and just soak into us.
- 25:06Isn't it? That's beauty.
- 25:07Twice. And you mentioned that Romans
- 25:10chapter 12, the renewing of the mind, you know, as a, as a
- 25:13living sacrifice, that kind of thing, like the the former sins
- 25:18that we communicated in the anger, wrath, malice, filthy
- 25:21communications, the evil concupiscence, all that kind of
- 25:24stuff. It came pretty natural to us
- 25:27after we had learned the patterns, you know, the at the
- 25:29first sign of frustration, you hit something or throw something
- 25:33or, you know, yell out the window, like all these random
- 25:35things that seem to just come to people very naturally and
- 25:38easily. Now we're supposed to put on,
- 25:41you know, almost by practice, put on these new attributes and
- 25:44these new beautiful things based on, but first of all, get your
- 25:47mind right. And then now just Simply put
- 25:49them on and eventually they become who you are.
- 25:52Like they become your day-to-day experiences.
- 25:55All of a sudden the mercy just comes out of you.
- 25:57It's not like you're trying hard to, to, to continuously put it
- 26:01on. It becomes the same kind of
- 26:03habit that anger or wrath or malice was prior.
- 26:07Well, if you put it on, you're taking it with you, right?
- 26:09I mean, you're not, you're not putting it on all the time.
- 26:11You just put it on, then it's with.
- 26:13You like you're. There you go.
- 26:15Yeah, and I. Was going to say about the the
- 26:17chosen. So I thought of that too about
- 26:19the elect. Sorry, Leon, I I seen that too.
- 26:23And and so here's here's what how I see that and what I see it
- 26:27saying. If you look that word, the Greek
- 26:30word of God, that is just one word that means supreme divinity
- 26:35or or God like that word of is just a fill in Word there.
- 26:41So now in my mind, it's the the chosen those that have chosen
- 26:46God, because the elect means chosen.
- 26:49So those that have chosen God or chosen Christ is the way I see
- 26:55that not necessarily that God chose us before time, He chose
- 27:02He. Chose that we would be that we
- 27:03would come to him through his son Jesus.
- 27:05But I, I just know that this is a, a verse that gets picked out
- 27:09and kind of held up by the Calvinist crowd a little bit as.
- 27:13The rest of us are probably a little bit scared of the word
- 27:16because as soon as we use it, it sounds like we're referring to
- 27:19something different than what we are.
- 27:21But we are a God's chosen people, you know?
- 27:25We just don't believe that it's some kind of irresistible
- 27:28determinism where God chose, you know, the whole duck, duck damn
- 27:32idea like that. That's just not a biblical
- 27:34concept. And we can see that clearly.
- 27:36And we're not talking about that.
- 27:38We are chosen because we're in Christ.
- 27:40He chose us in this way and in this fashion and through this
- 27:44person. And we are the elect, the
- 27:46beloved of God. So I don't think we need to go
- 27:50the Calvinist predetermined route.
- 27:53Yeah, I just had to throw that in there because of the word and
- 27:58and you know, the the idea of being holy.
- 28:01I just, I just quickly looked that up.
- 28:03It's not, it's not so much the idea of being perfect as it is
- 28:06what it says whole and entire complete.
- 28:12We are complete. And that is that is so good
- 28:15because a lot of in this world, because of sin and stuff that
- 28:18happens to us, we are often not complete.
- 28:20We're often broken into bits or pieces and and and can't
- 28:24actually function really. But here we are holy and beloved
- 28:27in him. So hey, Cameron, I was reading
- 28:30your comment. You're saying taking this in as
- 28:32a family. Bless you for doing that.
- 28:35While I've been here in the in the room doing this, my family
- 28:38is almost always out in the living room watching it on a
- 28:41laptop as we're as we're recording here.
- 28:44So my family likes that too. So that's that's pretty cool.
- 28:48They're they're doing a a different thing tonight.
- 28:50So but anyway, all right, verse 13 for bearing one another and
- 28:54forgiving one another. If any man have a quarrel
- 28:57against any, even as Christ forgave you, so also do you.
- 29:02So he gave us a really good example on how to do that.
- 29:05Christ was the perfect example. He he's the one that could
- 29:10forgive perfectly. And so we have we had a good
- 29:13role model in that and a lot of instruction in in how that
- 29:17should happen. And I'm telling you, I I think
- 29:20for bearing one another kind of the same as long-suffering is
- 29:24going to be the hardest one in the world for a non believer in
- 29:28Christ to pull off because it it, it requires like something
- 29:34like, you know, being humble for the two hours you go to church.
- 29:39That's one thing. OK, but to be for bearing that
- 29:42means that you have to put up with maybe something that just
- 29:47grates you for a long, long time, and without Christ, that
- 29:50is going to be really hard to do, isn't it then?
- 29:52Yeah, yeah. And then this verse kind of
- 29:55gives us an indication of who he's actually referring to with
- 29:59the previous verse as well. When he says put on as the elect
- 30:04of God all these things, you know, the the bowels of mercies,
- 30:08that means you got to be very kind of people who don't deserve
- 30:11it and then kindness right after that.
- 30:14So first be merciful to them, then be kind to them and then
- 30:17make sure you don't think too highly of yourself and be meek
- 30:20and be willing to suffer unjustly at times.
- 30:24And then for bear with one other.
- 30:25They're all about dealing with our fellow man and especially
- 30:28our fellow Christians. Many times people will say
- 30:31things like I like Jesus, I just don't like the church or I don't
- 30:34go to church because the church is full of hypocrites.
- 30:36The church is full of people who are going to hurt you and that's
- 30:39what these verses are talking about.
- 30:41And they're full of people that you will hurt as soon as you get
- 30:44to know them and they get to know you.
- 30:45Hurts are going to go all which way, every which way.
- 30:48And so he turns starts off by saying, just make sure that
- 30:51you're merciful. Make sure that you don't think
- 30:53you highly of yourself. Make sure that you're kind to
- 30:56people. And then also he goes on and
- 30:58says for bear one another, that means like when they're doing
- 31:01something that's actually maybe hurting you, just bear it for a
- 31:05while. And then he says, and if they've
- 31:06actually gone beyond and actually done some serious
- 31:09offense against you, forgive it. So it's just like it's building,
- 31:12progressing one after the other. It starts in the mind this
- 31:15simple attitude following Christ being like he is.
- 31:19And then even as the church hurts you, even as the church
- 31:23does damage to you, it doesn't mean just be a doormat.
- 31:27It's this idea of the body functioning together.
- 31:29Just like in marriage. If I left at the sign of of hurt
- 31:33or irritation or offense, no marriage would work.
- 31:37But you have to rub away all those rough spots almost every
- 31:41time two people have conflict with one another, there's error
- 31:44on both sides. So have that humbleness of mind
- 31:47to recognize that, hey, God was merciful to me.
- 31:49If I can just take responsibility on this for my
- 31:54portion. Let's say my portion is only 10%
- 31:57and I recognize, you know what? I could have changed things had
- 31:59my 10% been a little different. Very often as soon as you give
- 32:03that 10% up, you recognize that there's actually more like 30 or
- 32:0740 or 60 or 70% had your attitude been a little
- 32:10different, right? And so it's this whole concept
- 32:13of if you have a quarrel, if you have a fight, or if you're
- 32:16before the quarrel happens, even have a humble mind, have the
- 32:20willingness and the ability to suffer along.
- 32:22Be willing to forgive and for bear for a long period of time
- 32:27because we're a body that needs to function together as as one.
- 32:31And then he gives us the ultimate reason to forgive one
- 32:34another, even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you.
- 32:37So if he forgave you of everything you've ever done,
- 32:41past, present, future, before you ever were even born, then
- 32:44that gives us the capacity not not only that does it give us
- 32:47the example of how we ought to be, but also the capacity to do
- 32:51the very thing that he's telling us to do.
- 32:53It would be near impossible, like you said, to be this way,
- 32:56to be forgiving, long-suffering, forbearing and all of that with
- 33:00one another as we get hurt and offended if we didn't have first
- 33:04of all, the example and somewhere to place the people's
- 33:07wrong, right? So God looked at Christ
- 33:10suffering in our place and he placed our sin upon Christ.
- 33:14Now he looks to Christ and he forgives us.
- 33:16And now that's, you know, vertically we're made right with
- 33:19God, but horizontally we make right with God, right with one
- 33:23another. The same way I want you to
- 33:25suffer. I want you did wrong to me.
- 33:27You deserve to be punished. But I can now put Christ in your
- 33:31place and say Christ suffered for you.
- 33:33I can also let you go the same way that God let me go right?
- 33:37And it it's the gospel doesn't just fix the up and down, it
- 33:40fixes the side to side very much too.
- 33:44That has helped me even even in business, there's plenty of
- 33:47reason to, you know, the offenses come at you all the
- 33:50time, especially when you're dealing with the world.
- 33:53But even. Yeah, also a church.
- 33:55And if I wouldn't have the ability to not carry those
- 34:00offenses, I would get weighed down and I would get weary and
- 34:06grouchy. But because Christ died and
- 34:09because I am a son of his and because he is my Father, I can
- 34:13pass all those to the perfect forgiver and let him not affect
- 34:18my life. That's that's really good, Dad.
- 34:20I appreciate that. No one.
- 34:22Yeah, well, you know, so in in gangs and St. gangs most times
- 34:29to gain respect or how they respect one another is, you
- 34:33know, whoever is the strongest or the toughest is the one that
- 34:37is well respected or whatever. Like you have a a pecking order,
- 34:41so to speak. And the body of Christ is almost
- 34:47like similar to a street gang, so to speak, like it's a whole
- 34:50bunch of people coming together. You know, he said in verse 11,
- 34:54he said that the the new man in the new man, there's neither
- 34:57Greek nor Jew nor uncircumcision nor uncircumcised communicate
- 35:00the whole whole list. So there's all these people that
- 35:03are coming, becoming new creatures through Christ and
- 35:09faith in Christ and now are learning to work together and to
- 35:14function together and opposite of a street gang in the body of
- 35:20Christ. It's obviously kindness, right?
- 35:23It kindness, humbleness, the mind for bearing one another,
- 35:26forgiving one another. It's like not necessarily who is
- 35:32the toughest or the strongest, right?
- 35:33That how it would be in the street gang.
- 35:36So it's just amazing. I found this verse in Romans 15
- 35:42one and two. It says this We then that are
- 35:44strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not
- 35:48to please ourselves and let every one of us please his
- 35:51neighbor for his good to edification.
- 35:55So the new man is, look, we need to be looking at one another and
- 36:03building one another up and just being there for each other, for
- 36:09bearing one another, forgiving one another.
- 36:11If any man have a quarrel against any, even as Christ
- 36:15forgave you, so also do ye. So yeah, it's it's actually
- 36:21pretty simple, but it's very hard to do actually, because
- 36:25without Christ, like you said, outside of the Christ, you can't
- 36:29do any of these things. Yep, 14 and above.
- 36:37All these things put on charity. How good what that?
- 36:41So I had one more thing I wouldn't, if you don't mind, in
- 36:44Galatians 515, he says. But if you bite and devour one
- 36:48another, take heed that you be not consumed one of another.
- 36:52One of the worst kinds of diseases you can have in a
- 36:56physical body is an autoimmune disease.
- 36:59That's when your body starts fighting against itself.
- 37:02It starts shutting certain things down or maybe have it
- 37:05comes out as a skin rash or any number of random diseases.
- 37:09But they they diagnose it and they say that hey, your cells
- 37:12are fighting against you. And it's like this.
- 37:15It's a self defeating disease, right?
- 37:17Where it's not some foreign thing coming at you, it's you
- 37:20yourself fighting against yourself.
- 37:22And so that's what a church would be like if we don't put on
- 37:26these bowels of mercy and kindness and gentleness and
- 37:28forgiveness toward one another. It's like an autoimmune disease
- 37:31in the church where we're fighting and devouring and
- 37:34consuming our own body, right? It just doesn't.
- 37:37It's not a long term solution, right?
- 37:41Yeah, no, that, that's, that's a good illustration, Cameron
- 37:48wrote. Got it strengthened to be in the
- 37:50inner man and it brings benefits at work, at home and within the
- 37:53church emotionally, I am certain I have five times the capacity
- 37:58to handle offenses and stress that I had before salvation and
- 38:01sound Baba study. I agree with that.
- 38:04I think that's that's kind of what you guys are saying.
- 38:07You know, Christ in US gives us the ability which reflects him,
- 38:10not us because you know, we still lack that.
- 38:15If if Christ were to withdraw his grace and mercy, we'd be
- 38:18right back to square 1. You know, our, our flesh didn't
- 38:23necessarily get any better. It's because we have Christ in
- 38:25us That, that it's that it's the way it is.
- 38:29Dad, are you still with us? It looks like your pitch froze
- 38:31up. There it is.
- 38:33OK, I, it was kind of hugged up there for a second.
- 38:35I didn't know. I lost you guys both for a bit.
- 38:38OK, yeah, now he left. He gone apparently the the great
- 38:46Internet ways between Canada and USDOT snip.
- 38:49There's one. Someone cut the telegram line I
- 38:55guess anyway. I heard you're back talking.
- 39:06Yeah, let the let the adult leave if the whole party falls
- 39:10apart. Funny, no.
- 39:14So you know with that being said, Christ, you know, I'll
- 39:18read verse 14 again. It says and above all these
- 39:22things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
- 39:27And I'll say a couple things. I'll let you go ahead, Melvin on
- 39:32this, but the, the bottom piece, I looked that up in in the the
- 39:37Greek and anyway, one of the definitions that it gives is it
- 39:41for the word bond is the uniting principle.
- 39:45And I've I just find that interesting.
- 39:47I think that's good. Charity is the uniting principle
- 39:52of perfectness. And and it really kind of is
- 39:56charity is a, is a thing that that is above all of these
- 40:00things. It is actually the the kind of
- 40:02the rumor or the forefront. Of all these other things we
- 40:05were talking about charity, love in action, you know, doing,
- 40:09doing the right thing. I've talked about this before,
- 40:12but one of the things that I think do you want to do, you
- 40:15want to rub Christ in the face of the world around you, love
- 40:19your brother, love somebody that is unlovable.
- 40:23That I mean, that is that is as an effective of an example as
- 40:29you can possibly show somebody, because the world does not love
- 40:34unlovable people. They they don't.
- 40:36And so it's, it's actually a supernatural quality to be able
- 40:40to, to walk in, you know, or put on charity and actually operate
- 40:47in that, in that quality, isn't it?
- 40:51Yeah, it it's amazing to me. It really stood out to be what
- 40:55he says here. Both of all these things put on
- 40:58charity. So he went through this whole
- 41:00list, you know, of, of how we should be, you know, what the
- 41:03new man looks like and what the new how the new man operates.
- 41:09And but he says, but above all those, all those things that we
- 41:13just went through, put on charity, which what you said is
- 41:17love in action. And you know, we think that,
- 41:21well, love in action can include all the things we just went
- 41:25through. It could.
- 41:27But when you do love in action, it's like like in other words,
- 41:32you can do you can do a lot of things without love, like a lot
- 41:37of good things without Love Actually.
- 41:40So that's where charity, I think is.
- 41:42So why he says put all these above all these put on charity,
- 41:47which is the bond of perfectness.
- 41:48There's this verse in first Peter where it says first Peter
- 41:5248 it says and above all things have fervor, charity among
- 41:57yourselves, for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
- 42:02So if you have to remember here that he is talking to the body
- 42:05of Christ. He is talking not just to
- 42:09everybody in general, but he's talking to the body here in
- 42:12Colossians and and what it means that to put on the new man.
- 42:17And I think that is so good. I don't know, charity, it's
- 42:22just, I don't understand the fullness, I guess, of love in
- 42:26action. I don't, but obviously it's
- 42:30pretty high priority in God's eyes.
- 42:35Yeah, for sure bad. Go ahead.
- 42:38Yeah, that's really good stuff. And 1st Corinthians 12, at the
- 42:42end, he says, I show you a more excellent way rather than having
- 42:45great gifts and abilities. And then he goes into the
- 42:47charity chapter right where he charity never fails and so on.
- 42:51And then at the end he says, now abide of faith, hope and
- 42:54charity, these three. But the greatest of these is
- 42:56charity. And then I really like the one
- 42:58Melvin picked up from first Peter chapter 4 put on, you
- 43:02know, fervent charity towards one another.
- 43:05This, this word bond is an interesting one to think about.
- 43:09I heard it once years ago. And I, I'm no scientist, so I
- 43:12can't verify these things, but it was a Christian Scientist
- 43:15saying that there is no scientific explanation as to why
- 43:20our atoms like the the cells of our structure, even why they
- 43:25stay together. He was, he was giving example
- 43:28that water and a table are technically made of similar
- 43:33atoms or similar cells in some way.
- 43:35But one of them you can pass your hand through the other one
- 43:37you'll break your hand on it, right?
- 43:39Like it's there. There's no real clear scientific
- 43:42reason why it all stays together.
- 43:44So our bodies even are made-up of all these individual cells
- 43:47that, rightfully speaking, should maybe just come apart,
- 43:51you know, But but they don't. They're held together by the
- 43:53word of his power. And here he says the thing that
- 43:56keeps us together, the bond, the the glue that holds the body
- 44:01together is actually charity. And it it encompasses all of
- 44:04those things of forgiving for bearing, being kind, pitiful,
- 44:08courteous, all those things are, are enveloped inside of that
- 44:12word. But obviously, you know, the
- 44:14best definition of charity is the whole First Corinthians
- 44:17chapter 13 passage. It is not seeking its own.
- 44:21It is putting up with other people's problems.
- 44:24That is laying yourself down it it is exactly what Christ did
- 44:28for us. So again, that example and also
- 44:31the power to do and to follow that example is all in the
- 44:34gospel. And so above putting on mercy
- 44:38and kindness and charity, or above putting on mercy and
- 44:41kindness and humbleness of mind and meekness, even more
- 44:43important or above and beyond that is to put on this, this
- 44:48charity that he speaks of. So.
- 44:51Well, I think that charity actually, if you have put on
- 44:54charity, it is going to govern your life.
- 44:59It is, it is the overriding principle that is going to
- 45:03dictate to a degree whether you have kindness or whether you
- 45:07have humbleness of mind or whether you have long-suffering.
- 45:09I don't think that you can have those qualities without having
- 45:14the charity to A to a degree. You know the charity is the
- 45:18overriding principle to to all of this.
- 45:20Look what it says in Romans 12 verse 9 and 10 says let love be
- 45:26without dissimulation, abhor that which is evil, cleave to
- 45:29that which is good, be kindly affectionate 1 to another with
- 45:33brotherly love in honor, preferring one another.
- 45:38I talked about what that preferring means.
- 45:40It means simply that you care more for them than you do for
- 45:44somebody else. And it, it's something that,
- 45:47that you would go out of the way to make sure that they are taken
- 45:51care of. And that's, that's really what
- 45:53charity is. If you love something, I mean,
- 45:56it's easy to say that you love something, right?
- 45:58I mean, we all know that, but we all found out when we got
- 46:01married probably that love is always, not, not always the easy
- 46:05route. It actually seldom is the easy
- 46:07route. It's usually I, I, I think love
- 46:10is a feeling. Yes, 100%.
- 46:11But it is also and action I Dad, you've talked about this in some
- 46:16of your in some of your things before.
- 46:18I know it is a choice. It is something that you can
- 46:21decide to do or decide not to do.
- 46:24But again, if you have put on that charity, charity will
- 46:27dictate that you love, that you do these things.
- 46:32If if you have charity, you're going to have to do that.
- 46:35If you don't have charity that you you can get by without doing
- 46:38that. I, I think charity is, is the
- 46:40overriding principle. Like I said, if you have to have
- 46:43that charity in order to do all these other things.
- 46:46Absolutely. First Corinthians 13 again,
- 46:48charity suffers long, is kind, doesn't envy, doesn't vaunt
- 46:53itself, not puffed up, doesn't behave itself unseemly.
- 46:56That the definition of charity is basically put on bowels of
- 47:00mercy, kindness, humbleness of mind.
- 47:02Like it's basically saying you could just do, you could just do
- 47:05charity and it will come out as all these other things, right?
- 47:09But I think that the body of Christ is almost like a public
- 47:13picture of a marriage almost. You know what I'm saying, if you
- 47:16can follow what I'm saying, because here's what happened.
- 47:20So when we get married, you know, we know that it's not God
- 47:25desire for divorce, right? And so when we get married to
- 47:29our spouse, our spouses are mostly very different from each
- 47:33other, right? And so we know we don't want to
- 47:36divorce or spouse, and so we learn how to love and how to get
- 47:42along with her spouse, right, But that in the, in the body of
- 47:47Christ, it seems like as soon as you can't get along with someone
- 47:52or someone is rubbing you the wrong way or whatever, I'm, I'm
- 47:57looking for another church, you know, and, and they just go on.
- 48:01And instead of trying to get along with other individuals, it
- 48:06just, it seems like it's an epidemic almost in the body or
- 48:10crash. It's a picture of cardinality is
- 48:12what it actually is if you boil it down.
- 48:15Yeah, All right. No, that was good.
- 48:19That's rich stuff. You betcha 15 And let the peace
- 48:23of God rule in your hearts to the which also ye are called in
- 48:28one body and be ye thankful. There's a period after that.
- 48:36That is that is kind of a conclusion.
- 48:39I know it's not like he goes on to a degree, but it's like this
- 48:43is this is important here. I think again, it's one of those
- 48:48things that to me, this is kind of backwards, almost like you
- 48:53have to have the peace of God in order to display charity coming
- 48:59into this backward. Like to me, he started with a
- 49:02small stuff that is governed by this, which is actually governed
- 49:05by this and this, you know, from it's kind of an upside down
- 49:09thing because again, like one of the one of the qualities of
- 49:16being born again is having the peace of God of you and over you
- 49:21and in you and through you. That is, that is one of the the
- 49:24qualities and just let that rule you.
- 49:27So the challenge is not to not to have the peace so much as it
- 49:30is to let it rule you. Let that peace rule you, not
- 49:34your flesh or your desires or what you would like to do.
- 49:38Again, if if peace rules you, then it will be easier.
- 49:44I'm going to say it's easy, but it's going to be easier for you
- 49:47to show meekness towards people, humbleness towards people,
- 49:52kindness towards people. If that peace if you're not
- 49:54stirred up and fired up and all worried about your own comfort
- 49:59first ever. That's that's how I read that to
- 50:02the which ye also ye are called in one body and most just be
- 50:06thankful. Praise the Lord that he redeemed
- 50:10you like look for the things to be thankful for anyway.
- 50:14I make it up too much time, Melvin.
- 50:17Yeah, I, I don't know. It's just let the peace of God
- 50:22rule in your hearts. So in Romans 51 it says,
- 50:26therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God
- 50:30through our Lord Jesus Christ. And then in Romans 1417, it says
- 50:43this for the Kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but
- 50:47righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.
- 50:51You know, I, I don't know, it's just this peace thing ruling in
- 50:57your hearts is a big deal because we talk about, you know,
- 51:02working for the Kingdom of God and, and, and the Kingdom of God
- 51:06is not physical. It is, it consists of of
- 51:09righteousness, peace and joy. And so why would we not let that
- 51:14rule in our hearts, right? I mean, why would we not let
- 51:17peace rule in our hearts? And I think what he's pointing
- 51:21out here is that this is the key.
- 51:23This is one of the keys that comes with the new man is that
- 51:30we let that peace, that peace we have with God in Christ rule in
- 51:36our hearts and then that will guide us and direct us as we
- 51:41walk in the body because he says to the witch also ye are called
- 51:47in one body. So it we need to let the peace
- 51:51of God rule on heart in our hearts to function is in one
- 51:55body because we could go into Romans 14 where I think it's
- 51:58room 14. It talks about the body and the
- 52:00members and all that you know, like he says, some members are
- 52:05lesser than the others. We need to need to hold the
- 52:08members up and it, it, I don't know, it's this idea of the
- 52:13peace of God rule in your heart. So it's just stood out to me
- 52:16greatly because we look at other things and we want to do this.
- 52:20We, we want to be thankful. We want to be this, we want to
- 52:23do that, yes. But he's saying let the peace of
- 52:25God rule, let it rule you, let it govern you and be thankful.
- 52:31That's a good. That's a big 1.
- 52:34I think God it. It overjoys God, but we are
- 52:38thankful towards Him. He does it.
- 52:41That's just is. It's all over in the Scripture.
- 52:47Yeah, there's there's probably not too much to add to that.
- 52:50I really like what you said there, but the word let is very
- 52:53interesting. You both kind of touched on it
- 52:55already, but in the book of Acts chapter 27, it says when the
- 53:00ship was caught and could not bear up into the wind, we let
- 53:05her drive. You know, he's told us enough
- 53:10here to fill our tails, so to speak, like there's enough here
- 53:14to show us that we have peace with God that let that thing
- 53:18rule your life. Let that reality, that truth,
- 53:22what he's done for us, let it be, let it, let it come out.
- 53:26It's not this thing of trying hard to make peace.
- 53:30We have peace with God now. Let it rule in your hearts.
- 53:33You know the world is seeking after this inner peace concept.
- 53:37There's a kids movie we watched some years ago where the this
- 53:41person is doing this yoga type pose.
- 53:43And what do you call that doing? Like a moaning sound and trying
- 53:50to find inner peace, inner peace, inner peace, right?
- 53:53Like they're, they're trying to find inner peace.
- 53:55They'll go to beaches, they'll buy fancy things, they'll get
- 53:58less strenuous jobs, all in the attempts to find peace somehow
- 54:03in their souls and in their hearts.
- 54:06But very often, even when they find what they're looking for in
- 54:09this world, they still don't have peace.
- 54:12Because what we need is not first and inner peace.
- 54:14What we need first is an external peace.
- 54:17We need peace with the One who made us, and that peace has been
- 54:21made. So now we can take the peace
- 54:23that God has made for us in Christ Jesus, and we can let it
- 54:27rule in our hearts. Let that be the guiding
- 54:30principle. Let that thing be the thing that
- 54:32sits on your throne, so to speak.
- 54:35Let it rule in your heart. I am at peace with God.
- 54:39Nothing I can do gets me out of God's favor.
- 54:43Nothing in this world can separate me from the love of God
- 54:46in Christ Jesus. I am at peace with God.
- 54:49And I'm going to let that idea, that concept, that truth, you
- 54:53know, rule in my heart. And you guys both mentioned
- 54:57already like just approach life with gratitude.
- 55:00I dare you. Even instead of complaining
- 55:03about the hot, the heat, complaining about your car, your
- 55:06wife, your family, your house, whatever it might be, just be
- 55:10thankful for it. It's such a simple principle,
- 55:12but coming from a place of knowing you got peace with God
- 55:16and your eternal destiny is secured.
- 55:18Then you can let that concept, that truth rule and it will take
- 55:23over your life. I mean, thinking about, you
- 55:28know, kind of backing up and getting an overview of, you
- 55:32know, remember we're we're reading a letter that was
- 55:37written to a church, a group of believers and, you know,
- 55:43instructing them on how to live, you know, first of all, kind of
- 55:48who they are in Christ. Like the book of Colossians is
- 55:53really good. It tells you how blood sees you
- 55:57as a believer, basically, and, and how that should change the
- 56:01way that we live. But then this instruction here
- 56:06is it's just rich like, and it's not, I don't think that he's
- 56:10asking us to, to grip life by the horns and make this thing
- 56:15happen. But it's more like like this is
- 56:18your this is what I would expect a redeemed believer to be able
- 56:24to live like that. That's really actually, you
- 56:27know, so this looks like a like if you look at this with your
- 56:32carnal eyes, this looks like a formidable list of things that
- 56:38would be nearly unattainable. It would be a daunting task, to
- 56:41say the very least, If if I read this in in a my pre born again
- 56:48state. So I just, you know, for the
- 56:52listeners out there, you know, know that this is as much an
- 56:58example of what a believer is as it is a challenge to live and
- 57:04work in that. You know what I mean by first of
- 57:08all this, this information is absolutely worthless to you if
- 57:12you're not converted. I guess that's what I'm saying.
- 57:15Make sure that you're calling an election issue.
- 57:19Make sure that you're a son of God by faith and then this
- 57:23becomes sweet. It's it's sweet stuff.
- 57:26It you know where to align yourself with.
- 57:28You know what to align yourself with and where to put yourself
- 57:32and how to unburden. You can live life having put on
- 57:35that or let let that piece of God rule in you.
- 57:40I think I think that's a beautiful.
- 57:41I really like what you said, like let her drive.
- 57:44In other words, let the creation that God made of you drive in
- 57:50your life. Let her RIP.
- 57:52This is what it should look like.
- 57:53Just let let the let it run, you know.
- 57:58Yeah, I had this this quote that to me kind of summed up this
- 58:01chapter. I had written it a couple years
- 58:04ago. It says the more you see
- 58:06yourself as he sees you, the more you'll start seeing
- 58:09everyone else in that same light.
- 58:12And that provides instant mercy, grace and compassion to others
- 58:15because you recognize what he's done for you.
- 58:18So just let that rule. Yeah.
- 58:21Let her RIP, guys. We are, we are.
- 58:23We are not the tail, we're the head.
- 58:26Christ made us that way. We don't, we're not.
- 58:28We're not just these guys with no power.
- 58:33God made us that we can win. Melvin, you had said something.
- 58:37I was just going to, I was thinking when you were talking
- 58:39that, you know, so he says, put on, right, put on, put on.
- 58:45Then he says and let you know. So in other words, the, the, the
- 58:49phrases he's using there it it's so good, you know, And so it's
- 58:54opposite of putting yourself first like, like the when you
- 58:59put Christ 1st and and then you put on these and you let the
- 59:03peace of God rule you, It it's the opposite of you trying to in
- 59:09yourself, like in your flesh, trying to, to rule and to, to
- 59:14reign. So.
- 59:15Yeah, Amen. All right, I'm going to quit.
- 59:18I this this was so good refreshing.
- 59:23And I was talking with one of the guys that played Amish guy
- 59:26that listens to this podcast and he said it is the fastest hour
- 59:32of his entire week. That's kind of how I feel as
- 59:37though so anyway got to visit with him a while.
- 59:41He really appreciated us going through this and stuff and, and
- 59:45I told him it's, you know, it's, it's that way for me too.
- 59:48I, I just always feel so nourished again having dug into
- 59:53the ward like this. So anyway, we're going to call
- 59:55it quits hours up. God bless you guys.
- 1:00:00Hey, go out and be long-suffering with somebody
- 1:00:04today that's not used to being long suffered for It'll change
- 1:00:08their life. It really will.
- 1:00:10You know, we could we could make an difference to those around
- 1:00:12us. I really believe that we can.
- 1:00:13So previous episodes, Google simply Christ Ministries, that's
- 1:00:17where we're at and find the rest of it.
- 1:00:20Jerry and all the guys out there.
- 1:00:22Thanks for being all appreciate it.
- 1:00:24God bless you. Have a good week.
- 1:00:25Thank you much guys.
