- 0:08Speaker 1: jump in. If you're in the state of Florida, it's

- 0:15Speaker 1: app or go to this website, hardrock.bet.com. Hardrock.bet.com. You'll find
- 0:23Speaker 1: out all the details about Hard Rock Bet, Florida's only
- 0:26Speaker 1: legal sportsbook and therefore the most trustworthy option in the market.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Hard Rock bet not just in Florida, though, also in
- 0:32Speaker 1: Arizona and Colorado, Illinois and Indiana, Michigan and New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, and,
- 0:38Speaker 1: of course, the great state of Tennessee. Football's back, so
- 0:41Speaker 1: they've got new app updates. They've got new features and

- 0:46Speaker 1: promo bet where you get $ 100 in bonus bets, and
- 0:49Speaker 1: that's for all customers, not just the new customers. A
- 0:53Speaker 1: lot of NFL fun there as well. HardRock.bet backslash Clay.
- 0:56Speaker 1: HardRock.bet backslash Clay. I did not like the Ryan Silverfield hire.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I didn't think he did a great job at Memphis.
- 1:06Speaker 1: But my goodness, he's only been at Arkansas two games. Now,
- 1:08Speaker 1: it was a dismal performance against Utah. But a couple
- 1:13Speaker 1: of guys, one of them follows the show. It is
- 1:17Speaker 1: Drunk Baz. Drunk Baz. He says, let's show our displeasure
- 1:25Speaker 1: with Ryan Silverfield by– I don't know if he's the
- 1:30Speaker 1: sack Saturday one. I think he's the stay-at-home one in
- 1:33Speaker 1: this order. The stay-at-home one is the drunk Baz one,
- 1:38Speaker 1: and he is encouraging fans to stay at home. Don't
- 1:40Speaker 1: go to the game. How about we get.
- 1:44Speaker 2: To November before we do this on a first-year coach?
- 1:48Speaker 2: Is that true here? They haven't even played a conference game.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I don't have an expectation they're going to be able
- 1:53Speaker 2: to upset Georgia at 11 o'clock this Saturday morning, but Like,
- 1:57Speaker 2: you've got to support your players and at least support
- 2:00Speaker 2: this guy in year one.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Tyler, just throw any of them up, and we'll just
- 2:03Speaker 1: walk through them here. Several fan bases. This one is
- 2:07Speaker 1: from the top-tier hog there in Arkansas. SAC Saturday is
- 2:14Speaker 1: encouraging fans to wear brown paper SAC versus Georgia coming
- 2:18Speaker 1: up this weekend. There was a stay-at-home one. But the
- 2:21Speaker 1: most damning one of all, at least for Brown and me,
- 2:24Speaker 1: is the Creeks golf course. the creeks golf course at
- 2:28Speaker 1: 10 a.m. Any tee time, Saturday, 10 a.m. It's an
- 2:31Speaker 1: 11 a.m. game, $ 25 green fees. And that includes a
- 2:35Speaker 1: cart for $ 25. You can go play at the creeks
- 2:40Speaker 1: for $ 25.
- 2:41Speaker 2: If you just don't go to the game and you
- 2:42Speaker 2: don't want to watch it. Look, I think everybody, or
- 2:44Speaker 2: we all agree. The fall wedding is the worst. Again,
- 2:47Speaker 2: I've got a, take on one of those next week,
- 2:49Speaker 2: give you more details on that as that thing plays out.
- 2:51Speaker 2: But golf on a Saturday of the fall? You guys
- 2:55Speaker 2: don't even do that, do you?
- 2:57Speaker 1: No, I mean, it's got to be a terrible early
- 2:59Speaker 1: slate for me to go play golf. Y'all won't do
- 3:02Speaker 1: Sunday either, will you, in the fall? Oh, I do Sundays. Sometimes,
- 3:05Speaker 1: depending on who the Bucs are playing, I'll watch them
- 3:07Speaker 1: on the phone. Any division game, I'll be on the
- 3:10Speaker 1: golf course. Seriously? Yes, the division games. It depends on
- 3:16Speaker 1: what time the Dolphins kick. If I can get it
- 3:17Speaker 1: in before a Dolphins game, yeah, I'll play on a
- 3:20Speaker 1: Sunday for sure. You'd sit at home and watch the
- 3:21Speaker 1: Bucs and Panthers? Oh, yeah. Bucs and Panthers. I do anyway.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I'm not a Bucs or a Panthers fan. Anyway, that's
- 3:28Speaker 1: Arkansas's fan base there. I mean, it's unfortunate. It sounds
- 3:34Speaker 1: like a toxic fan base. And I think sometimes you've
- 3:36Speaker 1: got to remember. Well, fans are not realistic enough to
- 3:38Speaker 1: remember this, but. I mean, you may have to replace
- 3:41Speaker 1: this guy one day, and don't you think future candidates
- 3:44Speaker 1: look back on stuff like this and like, my God,
- 3:46Speaker 1: after two games of Ryan Silverfield. I mean, think about
- 3:49Speaker 1: if you're affecting recruiting, too.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Like, I mean, those players are going in and playing
- 3:54Speaker 2: in front of their home fans in their SEC opener,
- 3:57Speaker 2: and you're one and one on the season, and they've
- 4:00Speaker 2: got bags on their heads already? Yeah. I understand the
- 4:03Speaker 2: Saints when you lost 13-14 straight. Yeah, that was old school.
- 4:06Speaker 2: And you're paying those players. And I know you're paying
- 4:08Speaker 2: players now, but it's a different, it's a bad look.
- 4:11Speaker 4: It is.
- 4:12Speaker 1: But their chances against Georgia this week are?
- 4:15Speaker 5: Very low.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Would you go to the game?
- 4:16Speaker 5: No.
- 4:18Speaker 1: If I was an Arkansas fan, I would. On the
- 4:22Speaker 1: early window?
- 4:23Speaker 3: No.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I mean, I've probably got... I'm a glutton for punishment.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I'll never forget Bernie Kosar set a completion record against
- 4:32Speaker 2: my Rams, and I was watching on a 13-inch dusty
- 4:35Speaker 2: TV and old PTs in a back room because nobody
- 4:38Speaker 2: wanted to watch a game, and I stayed the entire game.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I mean, if that's your team, it sucks. If it's
- 4:43Speaker 1: your team, it's your team. John Talti has a new
- 4:46Speaker 1: book out, Lane Being Lane, and in that book is
- 4:51Speaker 1: this story this is at CBS Sports Today, a little
- 4:54Speaker 1: preview of what is in Lane being Lane leading into
- 4:57Speaker 1: the big game. In Talty's book, right after a win
- 5:02Speaker 1: of Ole Miss last year over top 15 Oklahoma, apparently
- 5:08Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin already had his eyes on another job. In
- 5:10Speaker 1: the book, Talty writes, quote, instead of basking in perhaps
- 5:15Speaker 1: his most important win as Ole Miss' head coach, Kiffin
- 5:18Speaker 1: turned to defensive coordinator Pete Golding on the field and
- 5:21Speaker 1: asked him, quote, are you ready to go to Gainesville,
- 5:24Speaker 1: end quote. It's told to Talti in the book that
- 5:29Speaker 1: right on the field after beating Oklahoma, Kiffin turned to
- 5:34Speaker 1: Pete Golding on the field and asked him, are you
- 5:36Speaker 1: ready to go to Gainesville, end quote. Could you see
- 5:40Speaker 1: Kiffin doing that? I mean, nothing surprises me with Kiffin.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Nothing.
- 5:45Speaker 1: No, I guess. I guess. I mean, most coaches you wouldn't,
- 5:48Speaker 1: but I'm with Lance. Nothing surprises me with Kiffin.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I mean, the ridiculous halftime comment with Holly Rowe for
- 5:57Speaker 2: the Clemson game.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Yeah, the NFL guys. Just imagine if we had pro players.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I mean, that's Lane. Get your popcorn ready. The book
- 6:06Speaker 1: is very well named, Lane being Lane, because it's what
- 6:09Speaker 1: everybody always says about Lane.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Have you guys seen the new ESPN report this morning
- 6:15Speaker 4: from Mark Schlebaugh that Lane was using chat GPT as
- 6:20Speaker 4: legal advice leading up to the lawsuits with the SEC?
- 6:24Speaker 1: I have heard some lawyers say that that is a–
- 6:31Speaker 1: it's actually pretty good. It's not perfect, but it's actually–
- 6:33Speaker 1: I can understand. Ends up doing a pretty good job
- 6:37Speaker 1: sometimes for some simple things.
- 6:39Speaker 4: His attorney friend, Tom Mars, who he was seeking legal
- 6:42Speaker 4: counsel from, he would text him screenshots of stuff from ChatGPT,
- 6:48Speaker 4: and Tom Mars would send back, yeah, I don't really
- 6:50Speaker 4: agree with that, though, and Lane was– kept sending screenshots
- 6:54Speaker 4: of ChatGPT.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Ole Miss has got a law school there. That's the thing.
- 6:59Speaker 1: LSU has got a law school.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Lane can afford $ 450 billing an hour. I understand a
- 7:06Speaker 2: normal person that is listening to our show using that
- 7:10Speaker 2: for a little bit of legal advice, but he's got
- 7:12Speaker 2: a team of attorneys.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Bruce Feldman at The Athletic writes a story
- 7:17Speaker 1: this week. It's a big talk of college football. What
- 7:20Speaker 1: makes Lane Kiffin a good coach? We asked those who
- 7:23Speaker 1: have worked with him. A guy who's only described as
- 7:27Speaker 1: an assistant with him at Florida Atlantic.
- 7:31Speaker 5: All right?
- 7:31Speaker 1: Okay. This is what he says. Quote, he probably has
- 7:35Speaker 1: a golden horseshoe shoved up his ass somewhere. One of
- 7:39Speaker 1: Kiffin's assistants from his days at FAU head, as the
- 7:43Speaker 1: FAU head coach replied with a chuckle before adding, you probably, though,
- 7:47Speaker 1: seriously need to split his career into two sections. pre-Alabama
- 7:51Speaker 1: and post-Alabama. I would agree with that. I would agree
- 7:52Speaker 1: with that, yeah. And that everyone is raving about what
- 7:56Speaker 1: he became when he was in Tuscaloosa, when Lane Kiffin
- 8:01Speaker 1: hired him. And this is really insightful from Alex Mortensen,
- 8:05Speaker 1: the UAB coach. What makes Lane interesting, it's his willingness
- 8:10Speaker 1: to go to the next thing and try the next thing.
- 8:13Speaker 1: And then he goes on to say, Mortensen, when Kiffin
- 8:17Speaker 1: was at Alabama... Coach Saban, that first year, really pushed
- 8:22Speaker 1: the idea that we need to change a little. We
- 8:25Speaker 1: need to play a little faster, play a little more
- 8:27Speaker 1: spread out. Let's investigate RPOs. That was Nick Saban getting
- 8:33Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin to change that offense. And when Mortensen tells it,
- 8:38Speaker 1: it makes it sound like it was Saban, not Kiffin
- 8:41Speaker 1: pushing Saban to change his offense from those years. It
- 8:43Speaker 1: was Saban pushing Kiffin, this is the direction I want
- 8:46Speaker 1: to go, and we need to be faster. We need
- 8:48Speaker 1: to do more RPOs. And that's coming from Mortensen, who
- 8:51Speaker 1: is inside the building. Coach Saban pushed a lot of that.
- 8:54Speaker 1: But I think Lane, once he took to it, he
- 8:57Speaker 1: took to it and ran. And that once he got
- 9:00Speaker 1: to other places, Lane was able to see the big picture.
- 9:04Speaker 1: And when he got to FAU as a head coach,
- 9:06Speaker 1: brought in Kendall Bryles, and that is now the offense
- 9:10Speaker 1: that Lane runs and is settled with. But it's never
- 9:14Speaker 1: the same thing, but that Lane really wasn't the wide-open
- 9:18Speaker 1: guy that he's perceived to be. It was Saban that
- 9:21Speaker 1: pushed him to explore all that, and that Lane is
- 9:24Speaker 1: just such an out-of-the-box thinker. He was able to take
- 9:27Speaker 1: what Nick wanted and turn it into the offense you
- 9:30Speaker 1: saw at Alabama.
- 9:31Speaker 2: I do agree that pre- and post-Alabama is a good
- 9:35Speaker 2: way to kind of divide.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Where he is as a coach right now.
- 9:39Speaker 2: But I remember when he was a head coach at USC,
- 9:41Speaker 2: and again, the deck was stacked against him because he
- 9:43Speaker 2: didn't have the scholarship numbers. But I really enjoyed watching
- 9:47Speaker 2: him call a game as a head coach. He was
- 9:50Speaker 2: one of the best play callers back then. Now, maybe
- 9:52Speaker 2: things have gotten a little more refined, and as the
- 9:54Speaker 2: evolution of the game goes, and we all remember when
- 9:57Speaker 2: Saban got beat by Malzahn, Saban's going to have to
- 9:59Speaker 2: do something. He's going to have to evolve, or he's
- 10:01Speaker 2: going to get left behind, and he obviously evolved, and
- 10:03Speaker 2: I guess that was part of it. But I do
- 10:07Speaker 2: think Lane is a much better coach now. The problem
- 10:11Speaker 2: is all of the immaturity that still comes with it.
- 10:13Speaker 1: But it makes sense if you think back, first of all,
- 10:16Speaker 1: That's got a name behind it. This is not sources.
- 10:19Speaker 1: This is Alex Mortensen saying this right in the book.
- 10:22Speaker 1: But it makes sense if you think back on the timeline,
- 10:24Speaker 1: because if you think back on the timeline, Gus Malzahn,
- 10:27Speaker 1: as Lance said, comes to the SEC as head coach
- 10:29Speaker 1: at Auburn, back to the SEC. They're running a lot
- 10:31Speaker 1: of RPO stuff. And famously, the play that scored the
- 10:36Speaker 1: touchdown that ultimately led to the kick six, right, for Auburn.
- 10:40Speaker 1: And that was a play that Alabama's coaches lost their
- 10:43Speaker 1: mind over. And that was what led Nick Saban to say,
- 10:47Speaker 1: is this what we want college football to become? And
- 10:50Speaker 1: the rest of college football looked back at Nick Saban
- 10:52Speaker 1: and said, yeah, we do. So Nick Saban was like,
- 10:54Speaker 1: all right, I'll play. I mean, I don't know that
- 10:57Speaker 1: Nick Saban really wanted to go that route. But when
- 10:59Speaker 1: the rest of college football and the people to make
- 11:01Speaker 1: the rules said, yes, this is what we want college
- 11:03Speaker 1: football to be. Nick Saban, one of his greatest abilities
- 11:06Speaker 1: was adaptability. Like the fact that he was able over
- 11:10Speaker 1: the years to say, if this is changing, I'll change
- 11:12Speaker 1: with it and I'll try to perfect it. I mean,
- 11:15Speaker 1: it makes sense if you think back where this occurred
- 11:18Speaker 1: in the timeline. Good read, Bruce Feldman, on all the
- 11:22Speaker 1: years of Lane Kiffin leading into that big game this weekend.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Back to the NFL we go. Remember, you can get
- 11:28Speaker 1: all of our content at Next Round Live, both on
- 11:31Speaker 1: our YouTube channel, and if you're watching us on a

- 11:36Speaker 1: different platform, at some point today, tonight, go over to
- 11:40Speaker 1: our YouTube channel at Next Round Live, at Next Round Live,
- 11:43Speaker 1: Give us a thumbs up to show the content that
- 11:46Speaker 1: you're watching now, but also subscribe for us there. That
- 11:49Speaker 1: helps us out in the long run, and we appreciate
- 11:51Speaker 1: you guys so very much. We'll get ready for the
- 11:53Speaker 1: NFL back tonight. Lions and Bills, 7-15 on Prime Central,
- 11:59Speaker 1: 8-15 Eastern. We have paddles here that are hot or cold,
- 12:04Speaker 1: hot or cold. And now the numbers I'm going to
- 12:06Speaker 1: give you with these NFL offenses from the first week,
- 12:10Speaker 1: I'm not saying they're going to, This is going to
- 12:12Speaker 1: be the average points that they're going to keep scoring.
- 12:14Speaker 1: You just tell me if you think that's a fair look,
- 12:17Speaker 1: if that offense stays hot all season long or cools
- 12:21Speaker 1: off all season long because it was a historic weekend.
- 12:24Speaker 1: And we'll start with Baltimore, who scored 41 in their
- 12:27Speaker 1: game this weekend. Do you think that Baltimore offense stays
- 12:30Speaker 1: hot all year? or cools off as the year goes on?
- 12:38Speaker 1: I'm going to give it the hot. I think as
- 12:40Speaker 1: long as you've got Lamar Jackson there, that offense will
- 12:44Speaker 1: score some points and rack up some yards. I'm going
- 12:46Speaker 1: to say they stay hot.
- 12:47Speaker 2: I'm going to say they cool off a little bit.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I still think they're going to win the division. I
- 12:51Speaker 2: had them win in the division before, but Derrick Henry
- 12:54Speaker 2: is 34 years old. I don't think he can keep
- 12:57Speaker 2: that up for 17 games.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I hate doubting Derrick Henry.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Also, Jacoby Lane, a rookie that was turning heads in camp,
- 13:04Speaker 2: Out of USC, he's already on IR. They just put
- 13:07Speaker 2: him on IR yesterday, so he's at least four games
- 13:11Speaker 2: he's going to miss. Do you really trust Zay Flowers
- 13:14Speaker 2: to be kind of– you lose Isaiah Likely, who was
- 13:17Speaker 2: a massive factor in that Dallas-New York Jags game. I
- 13:19Speaker 2: was really surprised they let him go. Yeah, because Mark
- 13:22Speaker 2: Andrews is still out there. How old is Mark Andrews?
- 13:24Speaker 5: A million.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Anyway, you've got a new play caller.
- 13:26Speaker 2: I'm just going to say it cools off, but I
- 13:28Speaker 2: still think they're a really good team.
- 13:29Speaker 1: OK, San Francisco, the 49ers, they only scored 27. And
- 13:33Speaker 1: by last week's standards, that's not a lot. But I
- 13:36Speaker 1: thought that offense looked really, really good. Do you think
- 13:41Speaker 1: the 49ers offense stays hot all year long or it
- 13:44Speaker 1: cools off? Is Christian McCaffrey healthy? If he's healthy, I'll
- 13:48Speaker 1: say it stays hot all year.
- 13:51Speaker 3: OK.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Kalen Black, though, is your backup running back who looks
- 13:55Speaker 2: like he's going to get maybe not as much touches
- 13:57Speaker 2: as Christian McCaffrey.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Rookie from Indiana.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Yeah, rookie from Indiana. I think he is going to
- 14:02Speaker 2: be really, really good this year. But watching that offense,
- 14:05Speaker 2: and I think this is how they're going to do it.
- 14:06Speaker 2: They really don't have a guy that's going to take
- 14:09Speaker 2: the top off the defense. So I think an older
- 14:11Speaker 2: Debo Samuel, Mike Evans, it's going to be a lot
- 14:14Speaker 2: of dink and dunk.
- 14:15Speaker 1: I was a little. With Brock Purdy.
- 14:16Speaker 2: So I think running the football, dink and dunk, I mean,
- 14:19Speaker 2: they're going to be very efficient. They're going to be
- 14:20Speaker 2: very good.
- 14:21Speaker 1: They're going to win.
- 14:21Speaker 2: 12 maybe 13 games but i think the offense is
- 14:24Speaker 2: just gonna it's not gonna.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Wow you i like my nfl better than lance's so
- 14:28Speaker 1: far you and lance i'm hot across the board i
- 14:31Speaker 1: just score points boys with mike evans injury past um
- 14:35Speaker 1: matt mccaffrey's i just think at some point that'll be
- 14:37Speaker 1: in brock purdy's injury yeah it'll be an injury riddled
- 14:40Speaker 1: team but i will say this as a guy who
- 14:42Speaker 1: loves mike evans and watch him all the years with
- 14:44Speaker 1: the bugs we didn't use him we rarely used him
- 14:48Speaker 1: in the slot as much as they used him last
- 14:50Speaker 1: week for san francisco That was a tremendous advantage, having
- 14:54Speaker 1: Mike Evans' size, his ability to just find space in
- 14:57Speaker 1: the slot. We always seemed like to have him outside
- 14:59Speaker 1: the numbers. I would have loved Mike Evans, healthy Mike
- 15:02Speaker 1: Evans in the slot. Man, that looked so good.
- 15:05Speaker 2: And now I'm not going to doubt Trent Williams, one
- 15:07Speaker 2: of the best offensive tackles of all time, but.
- 15:10Speaker 1: He's in year 17.
- 15:10Speaker 2: He's 38 years old. And when you watch last Thursday night,
- 15:14Speaker 2: the way he kind of dominated Myles Garrett, I think
- 15:17Speaker 2: a lot of that was Myles Garrett's knee. Can a
- 15:20Speaker 2: 38-year-old Trent Williams, who's missed a lot of time over
- 15:22Speaker 2: the last couple of years, can he continue? I mean,
- 15:24Speaker 2: the injuries are a problem for San Francisco.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Now, listen, 39 is a big number. I'm not saying
- 15:28Speaker 1: you have to keep this number as an average. But
- 15:31Speaker 1: Minnesota scored 39. Do you expect that to stay hot
- 15:35Speaker 1: or cool off? Well, part of it, too, is I
- 15:37Speaker 1: don't know what's– I mean, it's only a concussion. But
- 15:41Speaker 1: we've seen in the NFL with Kyler Murray, not specifically him,
- 15:43Speaker 1: but he's the one with the concussion, how that can
- 15:46Speaker 1: plague you forever. For the whole season, really. I mean,
- 15:49Speaker 1: specifically with Tua, and you hope that's not the case
- 15:50Speaker 1: with Kelly Murray.
- 15:51Speaker 2: You guys know I'm a Kevin O'Connell fan. I thought
- 15:54Speaker 2: what was really interesting, because I was watching that game.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Green Bay completely melted down in the fourth quarter. I
- 16:00Speaker 2: think there were some bad calls there. But what was
- 16:02Speaker 2: really interesting is Kevin O'Connell didn't go to J.J. McCarthy,
- 16:05Speaker 2: your starting quarterback last year.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I did think that was odd.
- 16:08Speaker 2: It goes to Carson Wentz, which tells you a lot
- 16:11Speaker 2: about where J.J.
- 16:12Speaker 1: McCarthy is.
- 16:12Speaker 2: He was the emergency quarterback number three on Sunday.
- 16:15Speaker 1: So that puts J.J. McCarthy basically at the same level
- 16:19Speaker 1: with the Vikings organization as as Ty Simpson is with
- 16:23Speaker 1: the Rams. He was the emergency guard.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Or even better, Jack Strand is with the Falcons. Forrester's Falcons.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Crazy.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Look, and I think he's one of the best play
- 16:31Speaker 2: callers out there, but I'm going to say that it cools.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Down, definitely. And we're wasting Jordan Jefferson's career. Justin Jefferson's career.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I don't know if you heard me say this the
- 16:42Speaker 2: other day, when he scored that touchdown, it was his
- 16:45Speaker 2: first home touchdown since 2024.
- 16:47Speaker 1: And that was just a.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Throw it up in the air. It was just a.
- 16:53Speaker 2: One-on-one back in the end zone and let him go
- 16:55Speaker 2: up and get it.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Buffalo plays tonight against the Lions, who gave up a
- 17:00Speaker 1: lot of points late as well. But 36 last week. Again,
- 17:03Speaker 1: we're not saying they're going to average 36 points. Do
- 17:05Speaker 1: you think Buffalo's offense stays hot the rest of the year?
- 17:09Speaker 1: I will say hot because a couple things, Lance. They've
- 17:12Speaker 1: got one of the best quarterbacks, top two or three
- 17:14Speaker 1: quarterback in the league, who's almost always good every week,
- 17:17Speaker 1: number one. And number two, I just wonder with that
- 17:20Speaker 1: defense if they're going to have to stay hot. That's
- 17:21Speaker 1: my questions about their defense.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the thing. They give up the 31 to
- 17:25Speaker 2: the Texans last week, and I don't think there was
- 17:27Speaker 2: a big expectation for the Texans offensively. I think Joe
- 17:30Speaker 2: Brady is going to have to shoot this out with
- 17:32Speaker 2: a lot of teams and rely on Josh Allen. I
- 17:35Speaker 2: really wanted to play this over tonight. It is a
- 17:37Speaker 2: massive total, but the problem is every game went over
- 17:40Speaker 2: last week.
- 17:40Speaker 1: What's the total? Let me check it. So you're saying
- 17:43Speaker 1: every game went over last week, so it's going to
- 17:44Speaker 1: be a big under week? They're statistically norms for a reason.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Yeah, they make the adjustments. I mean, this total is 54.5.
- 17:51Speaker 2: That is just a massive total in the NFL.
- 17:54Speaker 1: So 34? 28-27 puts it over. 28-27, okay.
- 17:58Speaker 2: And it seems hard to keep both of these teams
- 18:01Speaker 2: under that number.
- 18:02Speaker 1: All right, if I go to hard right bat, I've
- 18:06Speaker 1: got 16 NFL games this weekend. If I play the
- 18:09Speaker 1: under on all of them, I think you come out
- 18:11Speaker 1: as a winner. You think you come out ahead? You should,
- 18:14Speaker 1: but if you would have done that last week, you're broke. No,
- 18:16Speaker 1: but what if I play the overs on all of
- 18:18Speaker 1: them last week? Oh, you would be in a great spot.
- 18:21Speaker 1: You're saying the extreme adjustment this week. That's right. I mean,
- 18:24Speaker 1: I'm kind of like Lance. It seems like in the
- 18:26Speaker 1: NFL when you have a big over week, everything's low
- 18:29Speaker 1: scoring the next week. To your point that you're thinking
- 18:32Speaker 1: the casino, the bookmakers are going to take advantage of
- 18:35Speaker 1: the public feeling and everybody's like, man, record points last week, man.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Look at the scoring we're going to have this week. Well,
- 18:40Speaker 1: this is the only game in the 50s.
- 18:41Speaker 2: I mean, you've got the Commanders and the Cowboys.
- 18:45Speaker 1: That totals 50 and a half. But, I mean, this
- 18:48Speaker 1: is a big total. Everything else is in the 40s? Yeah.
- 18:52Speaker 1: I am going to go play all over. I don't
- 18:55Speaker 1: think anything has happened. I think it's what you were
- 18:58Speaker 1: talking about that the coaches are saying now. Oddly, the
- 19:01Speaker 1: lack of preseason games hurts our defense more than our offense.
- 19:05Speaker 1: We're not doing any contact. We're basically seven on seven.
- 19:09Speaker 1: It wasn't me that said that. It was Mike Tomlin.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I know, but you brought it up. Mike Tomlin was
- 19:12Speaker 1: the one that said it. Who's to argue with Mike Tomlin?
- 19:15Speaker 1: That guy did it a long time at a high level.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Two more. Chicago. They scored 59 last week. I'm going
- 19:21Speaker 1: to say it stays hot. Ben Johnson. It's not going
- 19:24Speaker 1: to be 59, but it's going to be hot.
- 19:26Speaker 2: You've got a really, really good quarterback in Caleb Williams.
- 19:29Speaker 2: You've got multiple running backs. Again, I've said this a
- 19:32Speaker 2: million times, but Colston Loveland, your leading receiver last year
- 19:35Speaker 2: at tight end, didn't have a reception, and you went
- 19:37Speaker 2: for that.
- 19:39Speaker 1: You've got a coach that's publicly saying he wants to
- 19:41Speaker 1: score 1,000 points. This is a coach that's going to
- 19:44Speaker 1: keep his foot on the gas. Last one. Kansas City
- 19:47Speaker 1: scored 31. You think they stay... hot or cold not
- 19:51Speaker 1: averaging 31 points a game but just by I'm gonna
- 19:53Speaker 1: go cold NFL standards I'm gonna go cold.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Yeah I'm gonna say cooling down I know Mahomes is
- 19:58Speaker 2: not the quarterback he once was he's still really good
- 20:01Speaker 2: you saw the big play from Travis Kelsey I don't
- 20:03Speaker 2: think he can keep that up for 17 games defenses
- 20:07Speaker 2: are going to focus on Kenneth Walker. Rasheed Rice is
- 20:09Speaker 2: a nice receiver, but I still don't think they've got
- 20:11Speaker 2: a ton of weapons, so I would go cold.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I'd go cold mainly because I don't think Walker will
- 20:16Speaker 1: be able to do this. Looking at his history, listen
- 20:18Speaker 1: to Brock Huard on our show, go check our podcast,
- 20:21Speaker 1: our archives. He told me all the injuries that he
- 20:24Speaker 1: had at Seattle. I know Kenneth Walker from the Super
- 20:27Speaker 1: Bowl and Week 1.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:29Speaker 1: And, hey, those two games, he's pretty good. Well, you
- 20:31Speaker 1: know who else knows him? Yeah. Mel Tucker. Yeah, he
- 20:34Speaker 1: got Mel Tucker paid. Boy, that guy disappeared. You don't
- 20:36Speaker 1: even hear that name. I don't blame him. Yeah. So
- 20:39Speaker 1: that's a little hot and cold with the NFL. Again, tonight,
- 20:44Speaker 1: 8-15 Eastern, 7-15 Prime with OneRepublic as the halftime show.
- 20:48Speaker 1: You get the Lions and Bills from their new stadium.
- 20:51Speaker 1: I wonder how many Bills fans come across the border tonight.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Can you do a quick AI search of how many
- 20:59Speaker 1: season ticket holders?
- 21:00Speaker 2: I would think 10% are from Toronto.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Buffalo season ticket holder, Bill season ticket holders from the
- 21:05Speaker 1: state of Canada. I have never been. Sorry. President Trump.
- 21:09Speaker 1: That was a discussion at one point.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I've never been to Toronto, but I heard it's a
- 21:12Speaker 2: very Americanized city.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Toronto's a great city. They love football.
- 21:16Speaker 2: So I would think that 10%. A lot of money
- 21:19Speaker 2: in Toronto.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Wow, very good, Lance. The Buffalo Bills have approximately 8,000
- 21:23Speaker 1: Canadian season ticket holders, which makes up about 10% to 15%
- 21:26Speaker 1: of their total season ticket base. Actually, 10%, if it's 8,000,
- 21:28Speaker 1: that's too high. Their stadium only holds 6,000, 60,000. New
- 21:33Speaker 1: stadium opens up tonight, but I wonder how many comes
- 21:36Speaker 1: across the border to watch Bills games. And they'll get
- 21:40Speaker 1: to do it on a Thursday night tonight with the
- 21:42Speaker 1: Lions and Bills. Clay Travis in our next segment. Before
- 21:46Speaker 1: we jump to that next segment, the Ravens. Can we
- 21:49Speaker 1: get the Ravens uniforms, Tyler? The Baltimore Ravens will unveil
- 21:54Speaker 1: their white noise uniforms this weekend, and it'll be their
- 21:57Speaker 1: first time to wear their purple rising helmet. They have
- 22:00Speaker 1: cool names. White noise uniform, purple rising helmets. Where does
- 22:04Speaker 1: Baltimore play this weekend? Look that up for me, somebody.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Baltimore this weekend has the Saints at home.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Home game. So they're going to wear white at home.
- 22:16Speaker 1: With their white noise. I like that uniform. As far
- 22:20Speaker 1: as the Ravens go, that's about as good a uniform
- 22:22Speaker 1: as you can do. Have you seen the Rams uniform
- 22:24Speaker 1: this week? I have not. I don't have that one. Well,
- 22:27Speaker 1: it's the classic soul.
- 22:29Speaker 2: This was kind of a throwback jersey they used back
- 22:32Speaker 2: in the day, but it's the yellow jersey with a
- 22:34Speaker 2: white pant.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Looks good, I think. Yellow jerseys for the Rams?
- 22:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:39Speaker 2: I remember 1994, we went into Arrowhead Stadium with T.J.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Rubley at quarterback. With the yellow jersey.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Wearing the yellow jersey as a two-touchdown dog won the
- 22:49Speaker 2: game outright.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Wow.
- 22:50Speaker 1: What a great moment in Rams history. I like the
- 22:53Speaker 1: Rams when they're in their traditional helmets with their blue jerseys,
- 22:58Speaker 1: yellow bands. I don't like the black, the midnight, that
- 23:01Speaker 1: they'll do one game.
- 23:02Speaker 2: But the alternative yellow and white this year, I like
- 23:06Speaker 2: a lot.
- 23:07Speaker 1: When we come back, Clay Travis joins the show to
- 23:10Speaker 1: talk about all the stuff happening in this big weekend
- 23:13Speaker 1: of college football right here on the next round presented
- 23:16Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bets on Sporting State. Back on Tuesday night,
- 23:20Speaker 1: the Board of Regents at Oklahoma approved the new Brent
- 23:25Speaker 1: Venables contract that was agreed upon in the offseason. Six years,
- 23:29Speaker 1: $ 63 million that was approved back on Tuesday night after
- 23:35Speaker 1: the loss at Michigan. but it had already been decided earlier.
- 23:38Speaker 1: But this is new this morning. Northwestern, right ahead of
- 23:43Speaker 1: opening up their new stadium coming up this season, and
- 23:46Speaker 1: Coach David Braun have agreed to a new contract extended
- 23:50Speaker 1: through 2031, and he took over as the interim coach
- 23:55Speaker 1: in 2023. God, it's been that long since then. It's crazy,
- 23:58Speaker 1: isn't it? Skip Holtz was with him there. You remember
- 24:00Speaker 1: that for that year? He is 2019 contract. in his
- 24:03Speaker 1: fourth year as a head coach, according to Pete Thamel.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I mean, he's done a really good job.
- 24:07Speaker 2: You know, he wins eight games in that first year,
- 24:09Speaker 2: and then it dives back to four and eight. I mean,
- 24:11Speaker 2: you're going to get those ebbs and flows if you're
- 24:13Speaker 2: coaching at Northwestern, but last year he was seven at six.
- 24:15Speaker 1: He's one and oh. Their favorite against Colorado, who's two
- 24:18Speaker 1: and oh.
- 24:18Speaker 2: That's kind of a fun little game that would have
- 24:20Speaker 2: gotten more noise if it was like week one.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Yeah, or week zero. Would have been a fun game.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Clay Travis in a moment. XXXY, one of the Proud
- 24:28Speaker 1: sponsors of the next round presented by Hard Rock Bets
- 24:31Speaker 1: on Sport and State. It is. It is the T-shirt
- 24:34Speaker 1: that launched a movement, XXXY. They have got great apparel
- 24:38Speaker 1: for you as well. You can enjoy it, and I'll
- 24:40Speaker 1: tell you right where you can find it in just
- 24:42Speaker 1: a moment. But a reminder, XXXY not only has men's
- 24:45Speaker 1: and women's apparels, but they've got the tees, the leggings,
- 24:49Speaker 1: the shirts, the hoodies. Jennifer Say founded XXXY. She was
- 24:55Speaker 1: with Levi yesterday. And rather than say something she didn't
- 24:58Speaker 1: believe in, she decided to leave Levi's as their brand
- 25:01Speaker 1: president and walk away from that corporate job. She started
- 25:04Speaker 1: XXXY Athletics instead. I mentioned it's not just slogan on
- 25:09Speaker 1: a shirt. Performance tops as well. Tanks, sports bras, leggings, shorts,
- 25:13Speaker 1: training sets, hoodies, hats, graphic tees. men's and women's, this
- 25:18Speaker 1: is worn by athletes who've actually put something on the line.
- 25:21Speaker 1: And right now, new customers get 20% off your first
- 25:24Speaker 1: order when you sign up. Free shipping over $ 100, xxxyathletics.com.
- 25:29Speaker 1: That is xx-xyathletics.com. One of those off-the-radar games, as it
- 25:36Speaker 1: shouldn't be, but it's North Carolina and Clemson this weekend.
- 25:42Speaker 1: And the folks around North Carolina telling reporters... anonymously, it
- 25:47Speaker 1: has been an internal civil war going on about the
- 25:51Speaker 1: Belichick's and North Carolina program. Steve Belichick turned in his
- 25:56Speaker 1: resignation today. Is that correct, Brownie? That is correct, Steve.
- 26:00Speaker 1: On three, I think the first report at Pete Thamel
- 26:02Speaker 1: has verified that, that Steve Belichick, the defensive coordinator who
- 26:06Speaker 1: has been on leave, he has not coached during this
- 26:08Speaker 1: regular season, has been on leave for medical reasons since August,
- 26:12Speaker 1: turned in his resignation today. Boy, this just feels like, Lance,
- 26:16Speaker 1: the drip, drip, drip, drip of the final season for
- 26:18Speaker 1: Bill Belichick.
- 26:19Speaker 2: It does, but I mean, if you look on field,
- 26:21Speaker 2: I think they are going to beat Clemson this week.
- 26:25Speaker 2: I mean, Tate Reynolds getting that first start, he seems
- 26:27Speaker 2: like he's going to be really one-dimensional.
- 26:29Speaker 1: And that is a healthy change at quarterback. Vazina is
- 26:32Speaker 1: listed as cleared on the injury report, so this is
- 26:35Speaker 1: a Tate Reynolds has won the job over Vazina at Clemson.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Through two games, Clemson has given up more tackles for
- 26:41Speaker 2: loss than any team in college football. You look at
- 26:44Speaker 2: North Carolina on the other side, they've only allowed 13
- 26:47Speaker 2: points through two games, and they've produced seven sacks. So
- 26:51Speaker 2: they're going to live in that backfield. And North Carolina,
- 26:54Speaker 2: the defense got better and better last year. It wasn't
- 26:56Speaker 2: an overall good team.
- 26:57Speaker 1: How does this game go over? I don't think it does.
- 27:00Speaker 5: I mean.
- 27:01Speaker 1: It was right on the number last year.
- 27:02Speaker 2: They got blown out 38-10 in Chapel Hill, but I
- 27:06Speaker 2: think this is an ugly 14-10 North Carolina win.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I can't imagine either, because Clemson's defense is pretty good.
- 27:12Speaker 1: I know they didn't look it against LSU, but it's
- 27:15Speaker 1: actually a pretty good defense. North Carolina's offense isn't great.
- 27:18Speaker 1: This could be one of those classic 10-7s.
- 27:21Speaker 2: I think after this result, if North Carolina does spring
- 27:24Speaker 2: the semi-upset, I think this is where publicly you'll start
- 27:27Speaker 2: to see Dabo's package, what it looks like to get
- 27:30Speaker 2: rid of Dabo Smith.
- 27:31Speaker 1: More likely to coach next year at their school. Dabo, Belichick,
- 27:35Speaker 1: or neither? Neither would be my more likely. I would
- 27:38Speaker 1: go Dabo still. Belichick, there's no chance. No chance. By
- 27:44Speaker 1: the way, after a bye, after a bye week, Notre
- 27:47Speaker 1: Dame up next. Notre Dame would be who Bill Belichick
- 27:51Speaker 1: will have to face after that bye week.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Hey, do we have to start with sports with our
- 27:57Speaker 2: next guest?
- 27:57Speaker 1: With Clay Travis?
- 27:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Presumably no. I assume we could start anywhere we wanted
- 28:02Speaker 1: with Clay Travis.
- 28:03Speaker 2: I just wanted to ask this because I wasn't here
- 28:06Speaker 2: last week.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I was at a funeral when Clay was on with us. Okay.
- 28:09Speaker 2: And that was when the whole AI thing came out.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Did you guys talk to Clay about AI?
- 28:12Speaker 1: The AI, what, ending the world? Yeah. Oh, no, we
- 28:15Speaker 1: did not talk to Clay about that.
- 28:16Speaker 2: I'm sure this has been something that him and Buck
- 28:18Speaker 2: have talked about before.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Talked to my pastor about it.
- 28:21Speaker 5: You did?
- 28:21Speaker 1: That's your wife, right?
- 28:23Speaker 2: But I did, I mean, Mark Zuckerberg is now commenting
- 28:26Speaker 2: on this. I mean, where are you on AI? Are
- 28:28Speaker 2: we going to, I mean, something's going to wipe us out.
- 28:31Speaker 2: I mean, civilization one day will go away. I don't
- 28:33Speaker 2: know if it's going to be tomorrow or in a
- 28:35Speaker 2: thousand years. But do you think AI is ultimately responsible
- 28:39Speaker 2: for the decline of civilization one day?
- 28:41Speaker 5: I tend to be an optimist.
- 28:47Speaker 3: And I've heard that climate change was going to destroy
- 28:50Speaker 3: civilization forever. And now, you know, people kind of stop
- 28:53Speaker 3: talking about climate change. I'm old enough to remember when
- 28:56Speaker 3: people said overpopulation was going to destroy civilization. And actually,
- 29:00Speaker 3: if you look at the data, we're going in the
- 29:03Speaker 3: opposite direction. In other words, people are not having enough kids.
- 29:06Speaker 3: So population over the next hundred years, we may have
- 29:09Speaker 3: already peaked at human population and we may be beginning
- 29:12Speaker 3: a substantial decline. I'm certainly old enough to remember when
- 29:16Speaker 3: COVID was going to potentially destroy the world. At some
- 29:20Speaker 3: point in time, the world will be destroyed, like we
- 29:23Speaker 3: saw with the dinosaurs. That feels like it is possible.
- 29:28Speaker 3: I will say my son, my oldest, who is a super,
- 29:32Speaker 3: super smart kid, he's obsessed with AI, and he tells
- 29:35Speaker 3: me that I am underrating the potential dangers of AI,
- 29:39Speaker 3: and he's been encouraged. me to talk about it on
- 29:41Speaker 3: my shows more and that we need more understanding that
- 29:45Speaker 3: once we get to sort of AI generation, which again,
- 29:51Speaker 3: basically means that AI would be able to run itself,
- 29:54Speaker 3: that we're going to see levels of increase in in
- 29:59Speaker 3: technology that we can't even comprehend. In other words, generative AI,
- 30:04Speaker 3: where we get past human intelligence and it begins to
- 30:07Speaker 3: be able to replicate. But my general position on this,
- 30:12Speaker 3: and I've spent a lot of time on it, I've
- 30:13Speaker 3: spent a lot of time thinking about it.
- 30:15Speaker 5: To me, it comes down to energy. AI is very expensive.
- 30:19Speaker 3: The data centers debate has been a big talking point
- 30:23Speaker 3: of late. The amount of money that has to be
- 30:25Speaker 3: spent to build these data centers, so that everybody can
- 30:28Speaker 3: be sitting around on TikTok all day or sitting around
- 30:31Speaker 3: on Instagram or whatever, your phone scrolling through, looking at
- 30:34Speaker 3: all these short videos. I think we are in a
- 30:38Speaker 3: world where it would be hard for AI to take
- 30:41Speaker 3: over because energy has a cost. And I don't know
- 30:45Speaker 3: what AI would be doing to be profitable to pay
- 30:49Speaker 3: for the cost of energy.
- 30:51Speaker 5: And so that's where I look at it.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Now, maybe AI is going to find a source of
- 30:56Speaker 3: energy that we're not smart enough to have found already,
- 30:59Speaker 3: and energy costs are going to go to zero. So
- 31:02Speaker 3: I tend to be optimistic in general, so I don't
- 31:06Speaker 3: think it's going to end the world, but I certainly
- 31:08Speaker 3: understand why people are apprehensive, why people are nervous, why
- 31:12Speaker 3: people are fearful with substantial change and how rapid that
- 31:18Speaker 3: change can take place.
- 31:19Speaker 5: I don't know if you guys use AI now. I do.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Okay.
- 31:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it makes me better.
- 31:26Speaker 3: I'm not letting it write emails or using it as
- 31:29Speaker 3: a servant in my life, but I do use it
- 31:34Speaker 3: to research.
- 31:35Speaker 5: I use it for college football.
- 31:38Speaker 3: If you just go into Grok and you say, hey,
- 31:41Speaker 3: tell me the last 20 results of a yearly rivalry
- 31:45Speaker 3: game and how that is compared with the overall spread,
- 31:48Speaker 3: you can get some pretty good data and research that
- 31:51Speaker 3: would have otherwise taken a long time to look up.
- 31:54Speaker 3: And you get it in 10 seconds. I use it
- 31:58Speaker 3: a lot. I think it makes me better, more effective.
- 32:00Speaker 3: I primarily use it as a better version, more efficient
- 32:04Speaker 3: version of Google for what I do. But I know
- 32:07Speaker 3: for a lot of people who are more sophisticated than me,
- 32:10Speaker 3: they have found that it can make them profoundly more
- 32:14Speaker 3: efficient and effective at their job than they otherwise would be.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Now, see, I think in Lance's world, the AI robots...
- 32:22Speaker 1: are holding us prisoners and killing us. That's the way
- 32:25Speaker 1: it ends for you. For me, it's that the AI
- 32:29Speaker 1: computer gets access to the Internet, like this guy said
- 32:33Speaker 1: has actually happened a couple of times, and then it
- 32:35Speaker 1: starts firing off nuclear weapons from Eastern Europe at the U.S.,
- 32:41Speaker 1: and we're firing back, and that's how the world ends.
- 32:43Speaker 1: That's what scares me.
- 32:44Speaker 3: That's sort of like the Terminator 2 scenario. Let me
- 32:47Speaker 3: give you an example of something that does trouble me.
- 32:50Speaker 3: We're not far away with drone technology from them being
- 32:54Speaker 3: able to say, anyone in many different parts of the world,
- 32:59Speaker 3: here is a picture of Jim Dunaway, Ryan Brown, Lance Taylor,
- 33:03Speaker 3: Clay Travis.
- 33:04Speaker 5: If you see this person, kill them.
- 33:07Speaker 3: And the drone is just flying around looking for you constantly. And,
- 33:13Speaker 3: you know, we have this idea of danger is going
- 33:15Speaker 3: to come typically from an individual, right? If you're in
- 33:18Speaker 3: an American city or American street, somebody could try to
- 33:21Speaker 3: do violence.
- 33:22Speaker 1: It sounds like a great movie, by the way.
- 33:25Speaker 3: But what scares me is we are going to have,
- 33:28Speaker 3: I think, more and more of these drone armies. And
- 33:32Speaker 3: I think we could end up in a world where
- 33:35Speaker 3: the primary threat to individual safety is from drones, not
- 33:38Speaker 3: from individuals.
- 33:39Speaker 5: So that does scare me a little bit.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Positive.
- 33:42Speaker 5: Tesla self-drive.
- 33:44Speaker 3: If you use Tesla self-drive, I think it's hard to
- 33:48Speaker 3: be negative about the future of AI because it is
- 33:52Speaker 3: the most transformative technology I've ever used in my life.
- 33:56Speaker 3: And I'm obsessed with it. I think it's going to
- 33:59Speaker 3: save a ton of lives. 40,000 people a year die
- 34:02Speaker 3: in traffic accidents. I think Tesla self-drive, just try it.
- 34:06Speaker 3: If you're a senior citizen, your mom or your dad,
- 34:09Speaker 3: your grandma, your grandpa, they're having trouble getting out I
- 34:12Speaker 3: think it's going to help so many elderly people who
- 34:15Speaker 3: don't feel comfortable driving, but they want to go to
- 34:18Speaker 3: a sporting event for their kid or they want to
- 34:20Speaker 3: go to a, you know, heck, just to the shopping
- 34:23Speaker 3: mall or to the grocery store on their own. I
- 34:26Speaker 3: think it's going to prolong independence for a lot of
- 34:28Speaker 3: elderly people. It's going to make a lot of teenage
- 34:31Speaker 3: boys in particular safer. That's why I have it for
- 34:34Speaker 3: my teenage boys. Teenage boys are morons. Um, so, uh, I,
- 34:39Speaker 3: I think as with most things, it comes down to
- 34:41Speaker 3: how you're going to use it, um, more so than
- 34:44Speaker 3: it does the overall technology being good or bad. Okay.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Help me out. Um, you know, I don't like to
- 34:49Speaker 1: talk politics, but I'm going to ask you this question. Uh, anyway, um,
- 34:53Speaker 1: I grew up watching college football in the seventies where
- 34:57Speaker 1: they would have a very attractive, uh, wife or girlfriend
- 35:01Speaker 1: and just her husband or boyfriend's white shirt, no pants, uh,
- 35:07Speaker 1: nothing else on, and she would put shaving cream on
- 35:10Speaker 1: his face and he would shave and it was a
- 35:13Speaker 1: razor commercial or it was a shaving cream commercial. I mean,
- 35:17Speaker 1: girls have been used in ads since the beginning of time.
- 35:21Speaker 1: I don't understand the controversy over The Sidney Sweeney, I'm
- 35:26Speaker 1: naked with balls placed in a row. What's the controversy here?
- 35:29Speaker 1: That's been the core in advertisement. Since day one, basically.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Since the beginning of time. I would imagine moving from
- 35:36Speaker 1: one cave to the other involved a naked girl showing
- 35:39Speaker 1: me a better cave back in the day.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Well, look, a few years ago, we decided that the
- 35:46Speaker 3: reason why men liked the women that we do is
- 35:49Speaker 3: because of toxic masculinity and and because of the way
- 35:54Speaker 3: that the media puts women in front of us. And
- 35:58Speaker 3: they decided, hey, we're going to put super fat chicks
- 36:01Speaker 3: in sports bras, or we're going to put dudes pretending
- 36:04Speaker 3: to be chicks in sports bras, and we're going to
- 36:06Speaker 3: sell this. And Victoria's Secret said, hey, instead of gorgeous supermodels,
- 36:10Speaker 3: we're going to put androgynous chicks in our underwear, and
- 36:13Speaker 3: that's going to help us sell. And something happened, which
- 36:16Speaker 3: was people don't want to look uglier than they actually
- 36:20Speaker 3: are in clothes that they are buying. They're aspiring to
- 36:23Speaker 3: look better. If I had a male underwear company and
- 36:27Speaker 3: I made myself the main male underwear advertiser, boys, we
- 36:31Speaker 3: would not sell a lot of male underwear.
- 36:34Speaker 5: It's not just women.
- 36:35Speaker 3: You walk through a shopping, you walk through a mall,
- 36:38Speaker 3: you walk through a convenience store, the people that they
- 36:42Speaker 3: put on the underwear that they sell them in are
- 36:45Speaker 3: ripped and really good looking. People want to believe that
- 36:49Speaker 3: they are going to look better in the clothes that
- 36:52Speaker 3: they buy. These are aspirational purchases. Men respond to good-looking
- 36:59Speaker 3: women in all facets of life. None of us would
- 37:02Speaker 3: exist if a man had not responded to a good-looking
- 37:05Speaker 3: woman at some point in the past and they hadn't
- 37:08Speaker 3: ended up together. This is not going to change. And
- 37:13Speaker 3: I think, really, to me, it's just ludicrous. What I
- 37:17Speaker 3: would say about Sidney Sweeney is this. I love her entrepreneurialism,
- 37:21Speaker 3: I love the fact that she has her own lingerie company.
- 37:24Speaker 3: I love the fact that she is an equity holder
- 37:26Speaker 3: in this sports gambling company. She is trying to build
- 37:30Speaker 3: a portfolio of assets, ironically enough, built on her assets.
- 37:36Speaker 3: And that, to me, is what we should be encouraging
- 37:39Speaker 3: in the country. There's no telling how many hundreds of
- 37:41Speaker 3: people are employed based on her ability to get attention.
- 37:46Speaker 3: And I don't know her, but I find her to
- 37:49Speaker 3: be brilliant in the way that she has made her
- 37:52Speaker 3: choices in her career. She is taking advantage of what
- 37:55Speaker 3: the marketplace allows her to do. And that is what
- 37:59Speaker 3: capitalism is. So I give her credit. I agree with you, Dunaway.
- 38:03Speaker 3: I don't see why this has been remotely controversial. Although
- 38:06Speaker 3: I would suggest we have this idea that controversy is bad.
- 38:11Speaker 3: In my experience, every time I've done something controversial, It's
- 38:15Speaker 3: been wildly beneficial to my career. Criticism is actually oftentimes
- 38:22Speaker 3: the best advertisement you can get.
- 38:24Speaker 5: And so I would.
- 38:25Speaker 3: Imagine that to some extent they were hoping for blowback
- 38:30Speaker 3: like this and that this has helped her to even
- 38:34Speaker 3: have a more successful advertising campaign that she otherwise would
- 38:37Speaker 3: have if people had just stayed quiet.
- 38:39Speaker 1: But see, I get pissed off that I get painted
- 38:41Speaker 1: into a corner that I I can like, and this
- 38:44Speaker 1: seems to be the debate at the center of it,
- 38:46Speaker 1: is that for some reason, if I think Sydney Sweeney
- 38:49Speaker 1: is sexy, that I don't think that an athletic woman
- 38:52Speaker 1: is sexy. But I think there are a lot of
- 38:54Speaker 1: good looking soccer players and tennis players, too. I can
- 38:56Speaker 1: like a lot of different kinds of women. I don't
- 38:58Speaker 1: have to. I don't have to choose vanilla all the time.
- 39:02Speaker 1: I can go Rocky Road. I can go swirls. Yeah,
- 39:04Speaker 1: I get it.
- 39:05Speaker 3: Basically what you're saying, Dunaway, is I'm super horny and
- 39:08Speaker 3: I don't discriminate very much.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Or I'm an American man. But what's amazing, he doesn't
- 39:14Speaker 1: like Sidney Sweeney. I don't think she's all that. I
- 39:17Speaker 1: don't think she's all that.
- 39:19Speaker 3: I can understand how you could dislike Sidney Sweeney if
- 39:22Speaker 3: you're not into boobs and you're not into perfect bodies.
- 39:25Speaker 1: I am into boobs. I just don't think hers ranks
- 39:27Speaker 1: in the top 25. Okay. I agree with everything. you said, Clay,
- 39:30Speaker 1: but let me do a quick, let me do a
- 39:32Speaker 1: quick counterpoint to what you just said. With any certainty,
- 39:37Speaker 1: tell me who she's advertising for. Oh, I know what
- 39:40Speaker 1: it is.
- 39:40Speaker 3: I can, but I'm not going to say it because
- 39:44Speaker 3: they're a competitor with Hard Rock.
- 39:45Speaker 5: That's right.
- 39:45Speaker 1: But you know it?
- 39:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:47Speaker 1: For sure.
- 39:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:48Speaker 1: And you know it for sure. For sure, yeah. Do
- 39:49Speaker 1: you know it for sure? I can see the logo,
- 39:53Speaker 1: but no. Okay.
- 39:55Speaker 5: Yeah, 100%.
- 39:55Speaker 1: See, I did not know that was a competitor with
- 39:57Speaker 1: Hard Rock, so I had no idea what they were
- 39:59Speaker 1: even advertising. But they're new to the game.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I know because I told our guys,
- 40:03Speaker 3: I was like, hey, this is a big story. We
- 40:05Speaker 3: can use our pictures with the, you know, accurately paced.
- 40:09Speaker 5: Footballs, but let's avoid the logo of a competitor. um
- 40:13Speaker 5: in the way that we talk by.
- 40:13Speaker 1: The way the hottest picture she's ever taken is her
- 40:16Speaker 1: sitting on the basketball rim that was something that is
- 40:18Speaker 1: the best picture that was something yeah that is the
- 40:21Speaker 1: best picture she's ever taken all right clay's going to
- 40:23Speaker 1: get ready for clay and buck you will see it
- 40:25Speaker 1: when we are finished here on sport and state and
- 40:27Speaker 1: also the uh.
- 40:27Speaker 3: By the way did you guys have a discussion on
- 40:29Speaker 3: this yet um Do you believe any chance at all
- 40:33Speaker 3: that Sam Levitt doesn't play?
- 40:35Speaker 1: No. Give us your take real quick. 100% he plays.
- 40:39Speaker 3: I'm with you guys. I presume you guys had the
- 40:40Speaker 3: same take as me. I mean, I would be stunned
- 40:42Speaker 3: if he doesn't play. I don't know if you guys
- 40:45Speaker 3: have made picks yet. I like LSU in that game,
- 40:49Speaker 3: and I like the over. I think Lane Kiffin is
- 40:51Speaker 3: going to be able to dissect this LSU defense. They
- 40:54Speaker 3: couldn't play in the secondary at all. against Louisville if
- 40:57Speaker 3: you watch that game. I think LSU will go up
- 41:00Speaker 3: and down the field basically at their choice, at their pace.
- 41:07Speaker 3: I like LSU to cover this number, and I also
- 41:10Speaker 3: like the over.
- 41:11Speaker 1: I'm LSU in the under.
- 41:14Speaker 3: By the way, here's a fun question for you guys
- 41:16Speaker 3: as we leave. Do you know CBS would have had
- 41:20Speaker 3: this game probably in the 3.30 Eastern window? Do you
- 41:24Speaker 3: know what game CBS has without looking today.
- 41:26Speaker 1: To go up?
- 41:28Speaker 5: Yep.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Rutgers and USC.
- 41:30Speaker 5: They have got USC-Rutgers.
- 41:33Speaker 3: I just think we don't talk enough about CBS giving
- 41:36Speaker 3: up the SEC as the all-time dumbest decision ever made
- 41:39Speaker 3: in the history of sports media.
- 41:41Speaker 1: What's crazy, Clay, is they barely would show Mississippi State
- 41:44Speaker 1: when they had the SEC package, and then they had
- 41:46Speaker 1: them at 2.30 last week in Minnesota.
- 41:49Speaker 5: Oh, that's very funny.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Yeah, they would have never shown a game like that
- 41:52Speaker 1: when they had the SEC package.
- 41:54Speaker 3: But, I mean, they're paying more for, like, the sixth-best
- 41:57Speaker 3: Big Ten game, and they would have otherwise had LSU
- 42:00Speaker 3: Ole Miss at 3.30 Eastern from Oxford on Saturday.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Terrible business.
- 42:04Speaker 5: Terrible.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Thank you, Clay. Have a great week.
- 42:07Speaker 5: I appreciate it. I'll see you.
- 42:08Speaker 1: All right. Thank you, Clay Travis with us. He's about
- 42:10Speaker 1: to do Clay and Buck coming up just when we
- 42:12Speaker 1: wrap up on Sporting State. And we've got one more
- 42:14Speaker 1: segment here. The next round presented by Hard Rock Bets
- 42:17Speaker 1: right here on Sporting State. Final thoughts on some college
- 42:22Speaker 1: football here, right after LT tells us about Clay Travis Law.
- 42:27Speaker 2: Accidents do not wait for a good time. One bad moment,
- 42:30Speaker 2: a wreck, a fall. Doctor who wasn't paying attention. Suddenly
- 42:33Speaker 2: you're fighting an insurance company that does this every single day.
- 42:36Speaker 2: That's why Clay started Clay Travis Law. Built a firm
- 42:39Speaker 2: around one idea. People deserve someone willing to pay attention,
- 42:42Speaker 2: ask the hard questions, and push back when things don't
- 42:44Speaker 2: add up. Experienced trial attorneys... who bring the fight to
- 42:47Speaker 2: corporations and insurers based in Nashville, trusted across the country.
- 42:51Speaker 2: They lead negotiations with honesty, determination, and southern grit. Here's
- 42:55Speaker 2: what they promise.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Honesty.
- 42:57Speaker 2: They don't sugarcoat your case. You're going to hear what
- 42:59Speaker 2: it's actually worth, not what you want to hear. Case
- 43:02Speaker 2: evaluation is free. No charge, no pressure, no hassle. Just
- 43:05Speaker 2: tell them your story. Go to claytravislaw.com.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Call 877-222-4444.
- 43:10Speaker 2: That's claytravislaw.com.
- 43:12Speaker 1: No case too big or too small. Hey, Danny Connell
- 43:16Speaker 1: is on the next round. When we continue, if you
- 43:19Speaker 1: are going to watch Clay and Buck after that, come
- 43:22Speaker 1: join us at some point tonight or tomorrow. And, uh,
- 43:25Speaker 1: Catch up with Danny Connell in the other two hours
- 43:28Speaker 1: of our show at Next Round Live, at Next Round
- 43:30Speaker 1: Live on all the platforms. He'll be with us at
- 43:32Speaker 1: 1230 Eastern, 1130 Central. That is coming up. Did you
- 43:36Speaker 1: guys know, and I don't know how you guys are
- 43:40Speaker 1: on stadiums and everything, but there was a time where,
- 43:44Speaker 1: get the Commander Stadium ready to fly by, Tyler. There
- 43:48Speaker 1: was a time when we built Riverfront and Three Rivers,
- 43:52Speaker 1: that Bush Stadium, the old one, All the stadiums look
- 43:56Speaker 1: the same. They're multi-purpose, and they all look the same.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Is there a chance that after we built SoFi and
- 44:03Speaker 1: the one we built in Minneapolis, that all the new
- 44:06Speaker 1: stadiums are going to look the same? Here's the inside
- 44:08Speaker 1: look of the Commander's new stadium, and this is the outside,
- 44:12Speaker 1: but it's got the clear glass dome. Yep. And I
- 44:16Speaker 1: don't know, do you have the video flying through the inside, Tyler?
- 44:19Speaker 1: I think Nashville's doing that too, right? Yeah, Nashville. That's
- 44:22Speaker 1: my point, Brownie. Nashville's doing it as well.
- 44:25Speaker 2: Once you've been to one of these, though, you understand
- 44:27Speaker 2: why they're doing it.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Yeah, so it keeps you out of the elements. It
- 44:30Speaker 1: keeps you out of the elements. It's just beautiful. It
- 44:33Speaker 1: feels like an outside game. It does, yeah.
- 44:36Speaker 2: I mean, there's times where it feels like it's a dome,
- 44:39Speaker 2: but more so outside.
- 44:43Speaker 1: I believe, if I'm not mistaken, Kansas City's is going
- 44:45Speaker 1: to be that way, too. I think in the renderings,
- 44:47Speaker 1: theirs is going to be that way. Kansas City's looking
- 44:49Speaker 1: at one that way. I think Chicago's is also going
- 44:54Speaker 1: to be the same way. And Gary, Indiana. Yeah, and Gary, Indiana. So,
- 44:58Speaker 1: I mean, it's all going towards that. Now, one thing
- 45:01Speaker 1: that that allows you to do— Because that's what you
- 45:03Speaker 1: want to see, right?
- 45:03Speaker 5: It's Gary, Indiana.
- 45:04Speaker 1: That's right. But one thing that allows you to do
- 45:07Speaker 1: is also host— You know, the Final Four, if you
- 45:12Speaker 1: want to, in basketball or big concerts and not have
- 45:15Speaker 1: to worry about the weather. Well, can you, though, with
- 45:18Speaker 1: the sun shining in? In Minnesota, I was up there
- 45:21Speaker 1: at Final Four. Yeah, but that's a wall, though. Well,
- 45:23Speaker 1: I guess that is... No, they blacked out the roof.
- 45:26Speaker 1: How'd they do that? They put black coverings on the
- 45:29Speaker 1: whole thing.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Really?
- 45:30Speaker 1: Now, when I went to... That's a big bed sheet.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Went and saw the Eagles play the Vikings up there
- 45:34Speaker 2: a few years ago, and it was a noon kick,
- 45:38Speaker 2: and they had the roof closed... But there was so
- 45:41Speaker 2: much lighting in there.
- 45:43Speaker 1: It was an awesome.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Outside a sofa, that's my favorite stadium.
- 45:48Speaker 1: It's designed to look like you're outside because of basically
- 45:51Speaker 1: a greenhouse look. Are we going away, though, from retractables?
- 45:54Speaker 1: Because nobody really uses them anymore, do they? Well, the Cowboys,
- 45:58Speaker 1: I think, had theirs open recently. Did they? Minnesota does.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Minnesota's not retractable. I didn't think it was retractable.
- 46:04Speaker 3: No.
- 46:04Speaker 1: I think it's just translucent glass. Maybe, maybe, maybe so.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Like the Falcons, do they ever open that bird's nest
- 46:09Speaker 1: up there? They do, but not for the SEC championship.
- 46:12Speaker 1: It just seems like the juice is not worth the
- 46:15Speaker 1: squeeze to factor that in.
- 46:16Speaker 2: I thought it was so weird, that Super Bowl with
- 46:19Speaker 2: the Patriots and Rams.
- 46:20Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Belichick was welled up about it. Well, it was open,
- 46:23Speaker 1: and then they closed. For the flyover. And Belichick, if
- 46:25Speaker 1: you go back and watch the NFL films, Belichick is
- 46:28Speaker 1: riding the head refs. You know what? Is it going
- 46:31Speaker 1: to be closed by the time we kick? I mean,
- 46:32Speaker 1: he was super worried about it. Which is so weird.
- 46:35Speaker 1: One of the Cowboys that had it open. I don't
- 46:38Speaker 1: know if they... Is Lincoln in Indianapolis, is it retractable? No.
- 46:42Speaker 1: It's not? Yeah, it is, actually. Yeah, it is. Maybe
- 46:46Speaker 1: that's the one I was thinking of. You get some
- 46:48Speaker 1: crazy ones. It just dawned on me when I saw
- 46:50Speaker 1: the Commander Stadium. I was like, We are moving to
- 46:53Speaker 1: where every one of these stadiums is going to have the,
- 46:56Speaker 1: I call it a greenhouse glass, but it's just basically
- 46:59Speaker 1: clear glass. Do you think, do you wonder, and I
- 47:01Speaker 1: wonder this about like super modern houses, like You know,
- 47:04Speaker 1: the house that looks so dated now was super modern
- 47:07Speaker 1: 30 years ago. Do you think 30 years from now
- 47:08Speaker 1: we'll look at those stadiums like, God, I can't believe
- 47:10Speaker 1: they used to build these the way we do with
- 47:12Speaker 1: the cookie cutters? Like in baseball, they went back to
- 47:14Speaker 1: a traditional look in baseball stadiums. What Camden Yards did there.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Which is what they moved away from to go to
- 47:18Speaker 1: the cookie cutters. Yeah, but they all have gone to
- 47:22Speaker 1: a traditional, almost business warehouse district stadium look. And it
- 47:27Speaker 1: looks cool as crap. And you think that can hang
- 47:29Speaker 1: around forever and ever. But to your point, this clear
- 47:32Speaker 1: glass seems like it's Art Deco. At some point in
- 47:35Speaker 1: 20 years, we're going to be like, why do we
- 47:37Speaker 1: have clear glass? But the thing is, Jim, the stadiums
- 47:40Speaker 1: don't last 20 years anymore. You know what I'm saying?
- 47:42Speaker 1: I mean, the Georgia Dome barely did it, barely make
- 47:45Speaker 1: it 20 years. Or was it 25, whatever it was?
- 47:47Speaker 2: It opened in 94, and yeah, I mean, right at it.
- 47:51Speaker 1: To your point, Las Vegas approved the other day $ 175
- 47:54Speaker 1: million can be matched by the organization for upgrades. At
- 48:00Speaker 1: Allegiant Field.
- 48:01Speaker 5: That place is brand new.
- 48:02Speaker 1: That thing's barely been opened.
- 48:04Speaker 3: I know.
- 48:04Speaker 1: It's for some entrance off of either the north or
- 48:06Speaker 1: the south to get people in better from one part
- 48:09Speaker 1: of the strip or whatever. But I was like, God,
- 48:11Speaker 1: it's a brand new stadium. We're already paying more money
- 48:14Speaker 1: to keep that stadium? We're building a baseball stadium right now.
- 48:16Speaker 1: What are we doing? All right. That's it for us
- 48:19Speaker 1: on Sporting State. You guys have a great day. The
- 48:21Speaker 1: next round continues at Next Round Live.
