- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swedish with Fexingo! I'm Lucas, and with me as always is the wonderful Luna. Luna: Hej hej! Ready to learn some more Swedish? I'm excited. Lucas: Today we're going to talk about something you might need when you're in Sweden: the post office. Luna: Oh, like sending postcards home? I love that. So what's the first phrase? Lucas: Let's start with: 'Jag vill skicka ett brev.' That means 'I want to send a letter.' Say it with me: Jag vill skicka ett brev. Luna: Jag vill skicka ett brev. Jag vill skicka ett brev. Is that right? Lucas: Perfect! You said it like a native. So 'skicka' is 'to send', and 'ett brev' is 'a letter'. What if you want to send a package? Luna: Ooh, a package. That's 'paket', right? Lucas: Exactly! 'Paket'. So you could say 'Jag vill skicka ett paket.' Let's try that. Luna: Jag vill skicka ett paket. That's fun to say. Lucas: Now, you'll probably need stamps. The Swedish word for stamps is 'frimärken'. So 'I need stamps' is 'Jag behöver frimärken.' Repeat after me: Jag behöver frimärken. Luna: Jag behöver frimärken. Jag behöver frimärken. That's a mouthful, but I think I got it. Lucas: You did! And remember, 'behöver' means 'need'. Good job. Luna: So if I'm at the post office counter, I can say 'Jag vill skicka ett brev' and 'Jag behöver frimärken'. Lucas: Exactly. And then they'll tell you the price. So you might want to ask 'How much does it cost?' which is 'Hur mycket kostar det?' Let's practice that. Luna: Hur mycket kostar det? Hur mycket kostar det? That sounds lovely. Lucas: It does! 'Kostar' means 'costs'. So you're all set to ask the price. Luna: But first I need to find the post office! So 'Var är posten?' means 'Where is the post office?' Right? Lucas: Exactly right! 'Var är posten?' That's a great phrase to know. Luna: Var är posten? Var är posten? Lucas: Now let's put it all together in a little scene. Imagine you walk into a post office in Stockholm. You go up to the counter and say: 'Hej! Jag vill skicka ett brev och jag behöver frimärken. Hur mycket kostar det?' Luna: Oh, that's a whole sentence! Let me try: 'Hej! Jag vill skicka ett brev och jag behöver frimärken. Hur mycket kostar det?' Wow, I said it! Lucas: You did! That was fantastic. 'Och' means 'and'. So you're connecting your thoughts. Luna: This is so practical. I can already imagine sending a postcard to my mom. Lucas: Let's do one more quick practice. I'll say the English, you say the Swedish. 'I want to send a letter.' Luna: Jag vill skicka ett brev. Lucas: I need stamps. Luna: Jag behöver frimärken. Lucas: How much does it cost? Luna: Hur mycket kostar det? Lucas: Where is the post office? Luna: Var är posten? Lucas: And a package? Luna: Paket! Lucas: You're a natural. Let's do a quick recap of all the phrases we learned today: 'Jag vill skicka ett brev.' — I want to send a letter. 'Jag behöver frimärken.' — I need stamps. 'Hur mycket kostar det?' — How much does it cost? 'Var är posten?' — Where is the post office? And 'paket' — package. Luna: And I'll remember 'skicka' for send, 'behöver' for need, 'kostar' for costs. This is great! Lucas: Perfect. Now you're ready to handle the post office in Sweden.
