- 5:09something until she come up. Up there, she is, up there,
- 5:16she go. I guess we're having a little problem with the system on today,
- 5:26and that she is again. I can't hear you. I can't hear
- 5:38you a mute yourself m hm oh, I can hear you now loud and
- 6:10clear. You you there was something going on. It was something going on
- 6:16with my with my audio, and something going on with my camera. My
- 6:21camera was actually not hooked up. But yeah, how you doing tonight?
- 6:30I'm doing I can hear you fine, I'm doing good. How are you
- 6:33doing? I'm here? Uh h h. We pressed, yes, gotta
- 6:47stay ready when when you called me out? But yeah, yes, so
- 7:00I see that you have. It's Poetry Month. The poets is step into
- 7:04the mic on tomorrow? Is that true? Or is that on the thirteenth.
- 7:15Well, on tomorrow, I'm going to be a guest on a show
- 7:19called Author's Inserts at six pm tomorrow night. I'm gonna have an opportunity to
- 7:26talk about one of my latest books. Let me granb it. Look,
- 7:31I'm just gonna show you what I got. I gotta a bad with you.
- 7:38You probably gave it because background, But I got a bag full of
- 7:42books. This is a bag full of my books. You see that,
- 7:46So let me find it here it is. So, this is my latest
- 7:53book. It is a the Holidays for women that are incarcerated. Well,
- 8:05we sat in prison because not all the time individuals have to be behind prison
- 8:13walls to be in prison, because a lot of us that are free sometimes
- 8:16find ourselves in prison in our minds or there are things inside of our heart
- 8:24that can cause us to feel like we are in a state of being in
- 8:28prison. So I just wanted to take this opportunity to provide a little hope
- 8:35and to share with some individuals, to give some queens an opportunity to share
- 8:43and to hopefully impact some women that were behind prison walls, because at the
- 8:48particular time, I had been working with some queens out of Texas, sharing
- 8:52with them, just trying to provide them some hope and keep them encouraged.
- 8:58Individuals that I've come across, most of them have been incarcerated for a long
- 9:07time. I say, the shortest amount of time that I've talked to somebody
- 9:11that's been incarcerated, it's probably been about fifteen years. Everybody's been incarcerated fifteen
- 9:18plus years. And with that being said, a lot of times when individuals
- 9:24get incarcerated, they lose connection with the outside world. Family members die,
- 9:31they just lose connection. And some of them, when they start losing outside
- 9:37connections, they start losing hope because a lot of these people are looking at,
- 9:41you know, over centizing, and it's just hard. So I took
- 9:46this opportunity to pour into to some of these queens. I was able to
- 9:52get this book inside of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, inside of some
- 10:00of the units, and we're able to share it out within t d c
- 10:05J, and hopefully we're going to be able to share it across other other
- 10:13places that may you know, I want to share it with their women that
- 10:18incarcerated. I'm also currently working on a book for me, and so we
- 10:22haven't forgot about the men. But yeah, that's that's a little bit about
- 10:28this book. What about the book that you have up? What is it?
- 10:37Oh? What is this cry from the soul, Cry from within our
- 10:41soul, the one that's bringing aware. It is a That book is a
- 10:52not awareness book. I collaborated with a guy that is currently incarcerated. His
- 11:01name is Andrew Beard. He is one of my first prison clients. I
- 11:09actually just published a book for him, It's Cause a Forgotten Flower. It
- 11:13is a book of poetry, sixteen poems penned by him. But that book
- 11:22basically, I did that book because at that particular time, a lot of
- 11:28individuals had been reaching out to me from T D c J about suicide and
- 11:33about individuals written suicide, and just a lot of individuals feeling hopeless, and
- 11:41I just wanted to provide them with an opportunity to, you know, to
- 11:46feel like somebody, somebody cares, that somebody you know is thinking about them.
- 11:54So that that's that's why I did that book. I I currently it
- 11:58is currently up on Amazon free. You can get the e book for free.
- 12:05We have reached number one they I'm grateful for that. We reached number
- 12:13one in poetry anathology. So hat south to Andrew for allowing me to share
- 12:20his poems. But yeah, I I just like to take opportunities and share
- 12:30whatever God dropping my spirit just this This past Thursday, I started working on
- 12:39a ninety day challenge to self publishing. I actually published it today. It
- 12:46is now up because a lot of people have been coming to me and asking
- 12:52me about publishing, and I said, you know what, everybody they always
- 13:01racking my brains about different stuff. So I say, you know what,
- 13:03I'm just gonna start putting some of this this stuff that's in my brain.
- 13:07I'm just gonna start putting it in books. So when people come to me
- 13:09and say, well, hey, can you help me with this? Can
- 13:13you help me with this? I can tell them, hey, I got
- 13:15a book. You can go over there and grab this book and it'll walk
- 13:18you through it. So God just dropped in my spirit to do that book
- 13:22this week, and I did. I completed it last night. It's up
- 13:28on Amazon. No, it's not on Amazon. I did it on Blurk,
- 13:31so it's up on Blurt. It'll be on Amazon next week, but
- 13:35it's right now. It's up on Blurt and it walks you through. It's
- 13:39a ninety day challenge. It walks you through, step by step different things
- 13:45to do, whether you want to self published or if you want to pitt
- 13:50your book to a publisher house or a publishing company or a publish an agent.
- 14:01All of that is detail you got day one through ten. They eleven
- 14:09through twenty, and it's broken down into nine sections intervals, and each day
- 14:18there's a to do list, So there's a ten to do list, so
- 14:22you can like monitor what you're doing and keep up what you're doing. There's
- 14:26a pace to write down your notes and to jot your notes and and all
- 14:30of that. And then I have a section in there that talks about the
- 14:37importance of your book cover and selecting a book cover, and then I'll walk
- 14:43you through how to upload and publish your book your ebook, how to upload
- 14:50it and publish it to KDP, step for step. So that that's that's
- 14:58what I do. When when God drops the up in my spirit, I
- 15:01move on it and I have to do it, whether anybody to do it
- 15:05with me or not. I always put the opportunity out there for people,
- 15:11whether they jump on it or not. You know, I really wanted to
- 15:16showcase one hundred poets in this last magazine, only twenty signed up. Those
- 15:24twenty today hit number one on Amazon, so they're being seen around the world,
- 15:31and they reached number one. So for those that did not get on
- 15:35that bandwagon, get on that trend, you missed that opportunity to be a
- 15:41number one best seller on Amazon, something that nobody can take it from them.
- 15:48They have that title and see. And that's what I tell people.
- 15:54You know, it's just adding to what you already have. Nothing that I
- 16:00do is gonna take away from what you're already doing. It's just gonna add
- 16:03to your report, repertoire and add to your resume. And that's what I
- 16:07want to do. I want to If I can't build up the people around
- 16:11me, then I don't want to be around them. If I can't build
- 16:17them up, then I don't want to be around them because I feel like
- 16:19that's my purpose. That is why God has placed me here. I'm a
- 16:26book eighty six I think now. According to Well, according to blurt I
- 16:32got one hundred and five books up. Oh wow, aj jah. My
- 16:37goal is to have one hundred the time fifty. But according to according to
- 16:41Blurke, I have one hundred and fifty, one hundred and five books in
- 16:45circulation right now. And then some of them are the same books but just
- 16:51different. They're in different formats. So I have made a color version and
- 16:56then a black and white version, but Amazon's I got eighty six as some
- 17:02today. So what was what was the Oh? I know you on a
- 17:11mission. I see that you you you work hard, and I know we
- 17:18we're supposed to be talking about books. But you know what, I just
- 17:22want to thank you for believing and uh christ Christians, h thanks for me?
- 17:33Yes? Oh uh huh, I have eighty five hears. I think
- 17:37I have? Uh what you say? I was looking at these questions.
- 17:41You got some questions, you got some comments. I don't. I can't
- 17:45even see them on this side. I didn't. Yeah, I was just
- 17:51on the screen everything, so you can see them. Let me go.
- 17:56Can you give us more information about what's going on you? I see that
- 18:02you be posting some of the poets. That's that's happening this month. You're
- 18:10gonna have like is that the thirteenth? Yes, it's actually it's it's April
- 18:18the twelfth, and I am going to be it is going to be an
- 18:22open mic poetry night from six to nine right here on the Crew podcast.
- 18:27Of course, we don't have a show that night, so I decided that,
- 18:32hey, I'll take that show and I'll just just do something and I'm
- 18:37just gonna highlight poets since it is Poetry Awareness Month, I just wanted to
- 18:47take that opportunity to bring some highlight to poets. For for poetry was dying
- 18:52out. It seemed like poetry was was dying out. But now it is
- 18:57coming back. People are really starting to get into poetry. They're starting to
- 19:02get into spoken word. A lot of people kind of shot away from it
- 19:07because they felt like, you know, it had to be a certain way,
- 19:11it had to be rhyme and it had to be that. But with
- 19:12all of their right now, the last time I did any research, I
- 19:18think it was about twenty five twenty six different ways write a poem, and
- 19:25there's no right or wrong way to do a poem. So a lot of
- 19:29people have taking this opportunity to use it to express and to get some things
- 19:37out. I know I have utilized poetry to bring highlight to mental health,
- 19:45to bring high light to the injustice in the prison system, and to just
- 19:52focus on different things because it's a very easy way to express yourself with not
- 19:57having to have all of the technicalities that go along with writing books and things
- 20:03of that nature. Because a lot of people they'll shy away from being a
- 20:07part of book projects because they not comfortable with the writing process and things of
- 20:11that nature. And to answer your question, Black Diamond, I think I
- 20:17did include how to get your how to purchase your ISBN numbers, how you
- 20:22can get them. I have to go and look. I don't remember.
- 20:27I think I did include that in there. I'm glad you mentioned that,
- 20:32because if I didn't, I have to go back and edit it and put
- 20:33that in there for those that like to purchase their own is being numbers and
- 20:40not use the the KDP and lula's and all of that. So, yeah,
- 20:48I gotta go back and check. I think I did, but I'm
- 20:52not sure. I know one thing that I did put in there that I
- 20:57do want, so I am going to go back and edit and put in
- 21:03there, and and that is getting your getting your getting it in the Library
- 21:11of Congress. That's one of the things that we wanted to start helping people
- 21:15do is getting their works submitted into the Library of Congress and getting that that
- 21:25litve extra love, rapport or whatever. If someone wanted to started writing a
- 21:33book, what would you suggest for them to do? Well, how would
- 21:37you tell them? Right? Would you suggest to write, right, just
- 21:42write, just start writing, write it, get it out, get it
- 21:45out that that's that's the first thing. You got to get it out.
- 21:49Everybody so technical, they want to be so technical. If you can't write,
- 21:56just just write it, get whatever you want out. That's the editors.
- 22:00That's what editors are for. If you're not a writer, just just
- 22:08write and get it out your thoughts, get it down on paper. And
- 22:15it's it's you got to commit to commit to it. Like take time every
- 22:22day to to to write, take something to express, get something out of
- 22:27you, like when take a path with you. So when when when thoughts
- 22:33hit you and things come to your mind that you want to get out,
- 22:37you can jot it down. You can. But that's how you get started.
- 22:42Like tell people journey, just get it out you. That's that's start.
- 22:51We can never Hey Frederick, how are you? Yeah, just just
- 22:59get it down. And so with the poets, what what ports do you
- 23:08have lined up for April twelfth that's gonna come out? Well, we have
- 23:15our very own Tota. It's gonna be on. Patrisa is gonna be on.
- 23:23We have Sophia Monique Cooper, she's gonna be on our poet Poets of
- 23:32the Year, Melanie Johnson, she's gonna be on. We have mother and
- 23:41daughter team out of California. They're gonna be on. Brenda Brenda with Brenda
- 23:48and Simon Williams. They're gonna be on. And then you have we have
- 23:53a spoken word. When I tell you a true spoken word artist, her
- 24:00name is the Voice, it's her stage name. She's gonna be on.
- 24:03It's just gonna be a good time for us to just come on and share,
- 24:11share poetry. It is Poetry Awareness Month, and I just wanted to
- 24:15take that opportunity to showcase some poets it. It's gonna give them an opportunity
- 24:19to allow their voices to be heard. Because we're just really gonna be shooting.
- 24:23They're gonna have an opportunity to introduce themselves. Briefly, it's not really
- 24:27gonna be about us really spitting our brands, but it's about us allowing people
- 24:33to hear our poetry and and and to you know, get a feel of
- 24:38what we what we do as a poet and how we write and what we
- 24:44write. No, all of us don't do the rhyming because I'm not a
- 24:48rhymer. I'm not a rhymer. I'm a I don't know, I'm I'm
- 24:56gonna work person. I can I break down words. I'm a I'm not
- 25:03the normal poet because if you, if you would have asked me four years
- 25:07ago, I would have told you I wasn't a poet. I don't do
- 25:10poetry. But shout out to doctor doctor Rochelle. She asked me to do
- 25:17a poem for her. She wanted me to be on a pre conference that
- 25:22they had and she asked me to do a poem. And that was the
- 25:26very first poem I did. It was called the Victorious Virtuous Victorious virtuous Woman,
- 25:34based on Proverbs thirty one, the Virtuous Woman. That was a poem
- 25:41that I wrote particularly for her for that event, and she loved it.
- 25:47She talked about it for a long time. And being somebody on the network
- 25:52that I'm on over on the W B and E and follow them are are
- 25:56poets. And when I say they are poet, spoken word kind of they
- 26:02I'm talking about baby rhyming davy And I'll be like, I don't want to
- 26:03go up against these people because these people can can flow. They I'm talking
- 26:10about you can feel it down in your soul. I'm talking about this girl.
- 26:11She down a poem it's called a throw my side. And when she
- 26:15talk about that, when she talk about that rolls and that throwing in her
- 26:19side, I'm talking about, you can really you like you right there with
- 26:22her, you can feel that throwing in her side the way she be talking
- 26:25about. And I'm talking about they can give her a top of and she
- 26:27can spit it off the top of her head. That's not what you're gonna
- 26:30get with me. That's not what you're gonna get with me. I'm not
- 26:37I'm not that kind of poet. Like I said, I'll share this one
- 26:48that I did for this this book for the women's for the women's behind Prison.
- 26:56It's called Resilience, Eli donated. In the shadows, a light still
- 27:03gleams, a voice whispers, dispelling dreams. You may feel lost, unfairly
- 27:11confined, but know that you are constantly in our minds, though the world's
- 27:17turn, never forgotten your worth and potential. You mustn't neglect, for in
- 27:22your heart a fire burns, a new ignite in hope and guiding you through.
- 27:30So unbowed, you are seeing love forever Proud remember, embrace the strength
- 27:37within a consolence truth your freedom begins. That's that piece. Wow, It's
- 27:48called resilience illuminated, and that's what was given to me. It is inside
- 27:56of forgot in Queens. This is a book of poems and short stories.
- 28:04So the women, they had an opportunity that could share poems. Most of
- 28:10us shared. We had two entries, so a lot of us we shared
- 28:14one piece as a poem and then the other piece we did as a letter
- 28:18to the queens that are incarcerated. That's beautiful. That's beautiful. And I
- 28:26also see that the Chasing Your Dream book tour is getting ready to start next
- 28:33month in Dallas or the four Force texts four Force Texas. Can you give
- 28:38us some more information on Chasing your Dream? So in two thousand and God
- 28:48dropped that in my spirit when I became a author for the first time through
- 28:52a collaboration from Fear to Freedom. And my whole goal was to educating,
- 29:00power and encourage individuals. So I wanted to do that because I was finding
- 29:06it hard to find black authors in my local library and then my local bookstores
- 29:12for my children. So, like I said, I came to Facebook searching
- 29:18out authors. I was able to find some and it just went from there.
- 29:23I just wanted to be able to connect with black and brown authors and
- 29:27to highlight them and showcase them. And as I began to come to social
- 29:32media and to meet people, then I realized that there was a lot of
- 29:34us out there and we just didn't have a platform. We just didn't have
- 29:40an opportunity. We just didn't have So I just began to do stuff in
- 29:42my local area. And as I began to do stuff in my local area,
- 29:47individuals that were following my platform and supported my platform, they began to
- 29:52want me to come to their area. So that's how I began to extend
- 29:56out. We started We started the Chasing Your Dream Book Tour in Anderson,
- 30:02South Carolina. We went Atlanta, we went to Tallahassee, Florida. We
- 30:07went to Nashville, Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee, Raleigh, North Carolina,
- 30:17and Charlotte, North Carolina. We was just all up and down the East
- 30:19coast. We was just all up and down the East Coast, just you
- 30:22know, trying to you know, share authors and provide a platform for individuals.
- 30:29So what we did was try to teach authors because a lot of people
- 30:34they just wanted to be vendors, and that's how they will say they want
- 30:37to I want to come, then I want to come sell a books and
- 30:41people not realizing that they were a business, that they were not just an
- 30:45author, but they were an author entrepreneur. Because now you have you have
- 30:51the means because you have this one book. See, people don't realize that
- 30:55if you're you're even if you're in an anthology, you have the opportunity to
- 31:00see and to see that and make that in your chapter. Whatever your chapter
- 31:06is, you can take your chapter and you can turn your chapter into something
- 31:11that can can can go into something else. So you can do t shirts,
- 31:15you can do programs. We used to have individuals that would come in
- 31:22and do workshops. So I would have somebody come in talk about maybe branding,
- 31:27marketing, networking, whatever I felt like could help take you to the
- 31:33next level. We've had people come in to teach you how you could do
- 31:37membership programs, how you can do different things to make income and to have
- 31:44several different types of income. How to build a speaking platform, how to
- 31:49start podcasting now, how to do a lot of different things around the book.
- 31:53You If you have a book with chapters, in it, you can
- 31:57break down each one of your chapters and into a lesson and and turn that
- 32:02into a program. And and people don't realize how they can take one book
- 32:08and use that one book to just build a whole lot of stuff. Like
- 32:12a lot of people, they don't have a whole lot of books. They
- 32:15just have that one book and they've taken that one book and they turned it
- 32:17into something so amazing. If if you are an author, you have an
- 32:23opportunity to take your platform and to make yourself an expert. You can turn
- 32:30yourself into an expert. You don't have to have no whole bunch of degrees,
- 32:34you don't have to If you know how to utilize what you have,
- 32:37your gifts that you have, and the skill kills that you have, and
- 32:40the tools that you have, you can you can be an expert. Because
- 32:44a lot of these I watch people all the time. I am a lot
- 32:47of these platforms. I watch how some some got one book, just release
- 32:53the book and now they talking about they don't even have all of that.
- 32:59They may not even have five hundred followers, but they out here saying they're
- 33:04global, a global influencer, they are a global whatever they're doing. I
- 33:09look at these people from from over in Europe, and a lot of these
- 33:15people that that's what they do. You look at that following. They don't
- 33:21have a whole lot of followings, but then they got all these people because
- 33:24they they read into that people. People read into what they're pitching see people.
- 33:31They have teams of people that have these pitch games and they that's what
