- 0:01You know it's ready from received as you're listening or watching. Have been man
- 0:06awesome, thanks man. So we'll jump straight into things. You've got your
- 0:10National Lights Out to kicking off this weekend in Sydney and it's a monster.
- 0:14You've got a lot of stops in there. So are you keen to get
- 0:17the ball rolling head back out there again? Yeah, yeah, we are.
- 0:22I mean if we did our first run earlier in the year and then
- 0:26we had a bit of time off and we're all sort of doing different things.
- 0:29We're still writing songs actually throughout Alms, so this is a nice break
- 0:35to get out on the road and so it's a really good break and we're
- 0:38always you know, champing out the bits to sort of get out there and
- 0:41we love it. Yeah, it's you, it's your thing. Definitely surprised.
- 0:50Well, we're gonna we're gonna play a few new songs you know,
- 0:55on the set and and change things up a little bit, perhaps some songs
- 0:59we haven't heard a while, some of our older staff and it's just been
- 1:02about everything, you know. We like to keep it interesting ourselves too,
- 1:06so yeah, of course, yeah, absolutely, Well on that No Lights
- 1:10Out is a great song like you guys are really sounding fucking great. Thank
- 1:15you. Yeah, appreciate it. No, it really is awesome our long.
- 1:18I was getting into it earlier today, So talk about it now,
- 1:22talk about an album. Is it in the works or are you just happy
- 1:26drip feeding this tasty singles for the time being. We're definitely shooting for an
- 1:30album. So we've we've been in the studio and we're what do we do?
- 1:36I think we've recorded about sixty seven songs, so we're the way we
- 1:46do. You think you're just stick on your album and everyone's single and go
- 1:49by, but we figured do a single, anchory ankey and keep recording.
- 1:57So we're back in into the same and we should have it done by then.
- 2:04Yeah, excellent. So I was just sort of drip feeding while we're
- 2:07yeah, yeah, tell you about We've always sort of talked about it,
- 2:12and I was, I'm from the whole I like to do sort of album
- 2:16sort of thing. And Sarah's so quick and always busy and just wants to
- 2:24jump into things so quickly. It's like, let's do single, let's get
- 2:28it out of the lets too, and I'm down for that. Yeah,
- 2:30But I thought if we can just apply ourselves a little bit more we can
- 2:34get an album out of it, which is what we've done. And I'm
- 2:37you know, stoked that we're at that point. Yeah. No, absolutely
- 2:40enjoy the process. So it's getting out there and it's out there now.
- 2:46Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely. So it has to be an amazing
- 2:50feeling to share something so successful with someone like Sarah who's become practically family to
- 2:55you. I feel amazing things you've accomplished and all the accolades that you've got
- 3:00under your belt. What's the proudest moment that you always circle back to and
- 3:04just go, I can't believe that we did this, you know. We
- 3:07were rehearsing last night. Yeah, and and there's certain parts of songs that
- 3:15we tend to just look at each other and it's just moments no words are
- 3:20needed, and it's there's accompliments, there's there's things on the way that you're
- 3:27accomplished that you kind of go, that's awesome, and we're you know,
- 3:30half five kind of moments and stuff of that. We dig it. I
- 3:34think I think during our first album was a high highlight for us, you
- 3:40know, or our first DP. Now, last night Sarah was talking to
- 3:46me about how the first time she heard down again on the radio and as
- 3:52she was in a terrible mood, and so we reminisced about stuff on this
- 3:55all the time. So when we're actually playing the moments, we look at
- 4:00each other and you'll see a smile and if it's like we're sort of thinking
- 4:04the same thing at the same point in the song or whatever, it's just
- 4:08done. It weird, but we've had a working relationship for what, you
- 4:12know, a few years now, and and yeah, yeah, so I
- 4:16would say, i'd say just getting the first sort of EP or album done,
- 4:24and then I would say, it's just the long journey. You're still
- 4:27doing it. I'm really proud of the fact that we're still out there and
- 4:31still doing it. Yeah, oh you should be. It's like it's a
- 4:34it's a huge thing, and not many people can say that they've done that,
- 4:36like, yeah, yeah, it's done. Sharing those moments that you
- 4:41just look at each other on stage and just go yeah, like, you
- 4:44can't teach, You've got to actually do it, you know, it's so
- 4:47right, Yeah you can't. You can't. That that comes from just grinding
- 4:51it and grinding it near after year, you know, doing the same thing
- 4:55so here. Oh that's so cool. I love it. So yeah,
- 4:59yeah, last time I spoke with Sarah actually was in December, and it
- 5:01was right before you guys went on New Money tour and there was a lot
- 5:06going on, like you guys were recording. There's new band members getting thrown
- 5:10into the mix, so how are you kidding? Yeah it was. She
- 5:14was really excited though, like it was like a yeah, let's do this,
- 5:16which is amazing. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah, it's
- 5:19really good. How's it alls like settled in? You feel? Like I
- 5:24said, yeah, it's it's it's doing great and and you know, so
- 5:30we we have new band members, so we talk. Yeah, we'll happen
- 5:34to talk about that too. So yeah, we've got a new John and
- 5:38Murray and Sheridan he's from and the working guy Camp who's was on my sort
- 5:45of radar there for a bit and Don't have joined the band and and they're
- 5:51fantastic players. We've been blessed actually to have players that are so great to
- 5:58play with this whole time. And eventually, you know, it's some kid,
- 6:00I think it's a football team or whatever. You know, some people
- 6:03would sort of drift off and some wantn't be around to write and some don't.
- 6:08So that's kind of where we're at with her. So the past members,
- 6:13you know, decide to to go in their direction and what have you,
- 6:16and we sort of we're happy that we found some people to fill the
- 6:20shoes, because there are big shoes to fill. Those guys were group,
- 6:24were great players, and we've we've got some great players back in. So
- 6:27the whole five of the band is actually on part of each other. It's
- 6:31like we're all rolling. It's really good. It's exciting, it's it's musical,
- 6:36it's creative, it's organic, you know, it's great. That's cool,
- 6:41and it's hard to have people slot in that are on the same page
- 6:44as you as well, and it actually works like I would imagine that would
- 6:46be absolutely terrifying. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you've worked really hard to
- 6:51get where you are, so to be trust in the new members. I'm
- 6:56the worrier, yeah yeah, so I'm the dog that worries. Yeah,
- 7:00Clays like guy that sits back. Now I'll come up. Maybe I'll let
- 7:05me think about it twenty four hours, you know. So yeah, it
- 7:09was a bit of a worry, but we yeah, we didn't get this
- 7:14far from just sort of yeah, I'm not taking risks and not not sort
- 7:18of you know, forging forward really you know, yeah we got a risk
- 7:25in to keep going. Hey, yeah for sure. Yeah, so super
- 7:29Jesus. In my opinion, it's a massive Australian icon and like a staple
- 7:33to the Australian diet if you like, do you find that you're all big
- 7:38og fans they they're moving with you, or do they still come back and
- 7:41just pine for your old staff and go like, we don't get it,
- 7:45we just wanted to. We're very yeah, I dig it. We're very
- 7:48lucky. I mean I saw so we did Assume twenty anniversary, twenty five
- 7:56anniversary, Yeah we So we did that and there was a lot of people
- 8:01out nostalgically sort of going back to that album, which was cool, and
- 8:05a lot of staying around. And we do have people from there that have
- 8:09just gone with the band, you know, and we see them the whole
- 8:13way. It's really it's really you know, great that we can take one
- 8:18of writers and they're enjoying it. You know, we ask a lot of
- 8:22questions too, you know, we don't just sort of frown up our own
- 8:26ask but when it comes to sort of writing music. You know, we
- 8:28tend to bounce it off people and see how they feel, and you know,
- 8:33I mean we get a tick. Yeah, it is sufd us and
- 8:37I think the DNA of mccleoud and myself sort of writing songs and what have
- 8:43you. It's always going to be there. And you know, once they're
- 8:48sort of starts singing on it, it is SuDS. Then these people and
- 8:52most of the people that do come along have been there to the long holes.
- 8:56We're very lucky. Yeah, that's cool. You must see a lot
- 8:58of familiar faces at your show. I've been seeing this guy for years.
- 9:03Yeah right, Yeah, it's totally right. And when you see them are
- 9:07old places too, And I thought saw you was in Melbourn in nineteen ninety
- 9:11eight and every what are you doing in Perth? Yea, So all of
- 9:13a sudden you're on the level now where oh you know, I got married
- 9:16and somebody who's got kids and yeah, so you hear everybody's life, yeah,
- 9:22for sure sort of things sometimes. So it's kind of cool. And
- 9:24what also is great is people sort of the connection that people have with certain
- 9:31times of the band. So listening to over that album came out. I
- 9:37was going through UNI when this album came out. I was I was working
- 9:39overseas or you know, saying you hear about it. You hear everyone's you
- 9:43know, sort of thing about what the music has meant to them. So
- 9:48it's kind of cool. That is cool. It's like you've quite literally soundtracked
- 9:52their life and just take them straight back to that moment again, which is
- 9:56yeah, yeah, it's really cool, I hope. So yeah, Okay,
- 10:01so I've been following your social media and seeing your pure excitement and enjoy
- 10:05like the photos you put up together. You guys are having a good times.
- 10:07Like again, you can't fake it. It just it pours out of
- 10:09you. You've kind of wrote into this for me, But how do you
- 10:13keep like the fire burning? Yeah? Well, I'm I'm sort of the
- 10:20guy. I'm a fan of the bed. Yeah, okay, first and
- 10:24foremost. And Sarah will be the first one to tea you there. So
- 10:28when she needs to sort of feel feel, you know, stoke for five,
- 10:31which should come to me, and I will say, look, we've
- 10:33got this, We've got that. And I think just that relationship has kind
- 10:37of worked and it radiates. So we go into rehearsory or we're gone on
- 10:43staff and it just sort of works and we're still spreads out that people are
- 10:48there. You know, we're still looking at each other going wow. You
- 10:52know. So I think I think when you sort of enjoying it for right
- 10:56reasons, it's not hard. You know. People think we just enjoy Yeah,
- 11:01yeah, take it right, and we enjoy it and we've got a
- 11:05good Yeah, we've been through a lot of shit together and yeah, just
- 11:09just from bands and just being in a band, you know, like like
- 11:13many stories out there, I guess, so yeah, we just we just
- 11:18keep keeping five sort of banding and keep writing songs and keep focused. That's
- 11:22that's what it is. That's cool. It supposed being in a band is
- 11:26like literally a relationship. If you've got to attend to it, you need
- 11:28to have respect, you need to It's brutal, Yeah, breaks your heart
- 11:33in places. Yeah. Yeah, I mean it's I question my sanity something.
- 11:43I love that. Do you have anything left on your bucket list to
- 11:46tick off? Or are you just happy doing what you're doing. I'm happy
- 11:54doing what I'm doing. A sort of don't sort of set too many goals
- 12:00to go and do it. I mean, I think my next goal would
- 12:03be to get down now I the captain when that comes out, you know.
- 12:05So, yeah, there's not too much that I'm not grateful for or
- 12:09whatever. A big time love that good answer. So curiosity question. You
- 12:16said, Sarah's a busy bee. She's always run around doing things, and
- 12:18she's a very creative person, so she's doing a lot. What do you
- 12:22do in the downtime, so to speak, when she's off doing Sarah things?
- 12:26What do you guys do? Oh? Yeah, well, I'm sort
- 12:28of like, I've got music sort of studio at home, so I'm always
- 12:33in there sort of yeah, yeah, just a set up, you know.
- 12:37But it's it's kind of good. And some people a steffactive with that.
- 12:39And I've been playing a few shows here and there with different sort of
- 12:43people and you know, yeah, it's pretty really good. I just playing
- 12:48a show recently with Rob Riley from Rose Tabby and I was so good and
- 12:56and yeah, and Paul Wheel from ice House he was on drums and we
- 13:03had Dave Gleee and singing. So it gives us just you know, when
- 13:07you get to those to these sorts of people that they're all individuals known do
- 13:13their own thing, and they've been in it for years. You know,
- 13:18the real life is it's just fantastic. So I've been doing stuff like that,
- 13:22and it might say just writing songs and trying to be credit for them
- 13:26for the album, and so that's what attend. Yeah, that's awesome,
- 13:31Like you've got access to all these amazing people and yeah, I cont so
- 13:37what are you doing? Let's do something? Oh yeah, yeah, man,
- 13:41the stories. Yeah, when's the memoir coming out? Yeah? Exactly
- 13:50right, imagine. Oh that's awesome. So Heavy started up doing a little
- 13:58Spotify playlist from bands that we've been interviewing. Would you mind partaking? Sure?
- 14:03Sure? All right. So I've got three songs to name, and
- 14:07one of them is the name. When you're getting ready to go and party?
- 14:09What's your go to song? Chuck it on? Get you in the
- 14:13mood every time I'm ready to go. You know what, I've been listening
- 14:16to a lot of Cherry Leaving, love It anything from here? Ye?
- 14:24Tick that works? One song you might use to save your marriage. That's
- 14:37a tough one. I don't know. Probably some Rod Stewart, perhaps,
- 14:43I don't know Rod Stewart. Nice do you put the wig on? Yeah,
- 14:48the old the old faces. Yeah, all right, and last one
- 14:54is a song that could potentially end your marriage. What's the ultimate destroyer?
- 15:01Old destroyer would be here? Uh? Good, good question. I'm not
- 15:11sure. Probably some of that's how I paid tend to just get getting the
- 15:15bali around the joint week Yeah, totally. Oh that's awesome. Oh well,
- 15:24thank you so much. I've really enjoyed this and I was really fould
- 15:26to meeting you as well, so I'm absolutely stoked. Yeah yeah, thanks
- 15:31very much for him, think great, excellent, all the best on your
- 15:35tour. I'm gonna I'm gonna try to get to the Zoo next Sunday in
- 15:39Brisbane. Come watch her so yeah yeah yeah, come up and say hi
- 15:43if you take it out well yeah, I'd love to do that for sure.
- 15:48Awesome, all the best. It was nice to meet you again.
- 15:50All nice to meet you too, mate. Bye, okay, say yeah bye
