- 0:34Welcome to drive thru episode number 18.
- 0:36This is our monthly recap where we've put together a menu of automotive,
- 0:39motorsport, and random car adjacent news.
- 0:42Now let's pull up to the window number one for some automotive news.
- 0:46And tonight we're going to party like it's 99.
- 0:511999?
- 0:52You're only a couple decades late.
- 0:55No, no!
- 0:55Our 99th Break Fix episode.
- 0:58Can you believe it?
- 0:59And guess what folks?
- 1:00Rejoining us tonight is the one, the only, our resident Viking.
- 1:05The return of the Brad.
- 1:07What's up, Brad?
- 1:09What's going on, everybody?
- 1:10I'm glad to be back.
- 1:12I see that our listenership has grown so much during the time that I was gone.
- 1:18I thought maybe I should just stay away.
- 1:22Is that how it goes?
- 1:23Is that how it works?
- 1:24You guys did so well when I was gone that I thought maybe I just won't come back.
- 1:29You know, speaking of things that might not be coming back, that's
- 1:32actually our showcase this month.
- 1:34In honor of the winter recap, I think we need to talk about cars that are
- 1:38headed to the graveyard for 2022.
- 1:41If we're going to talk about cars that are headed to the graveyard,
- 1:43can we also talk about cars that should be headed to the graveyard?
- 1:46Absolutely.
- 1:47So what's on this wonderful listicle that we've been provided by MarketWatch?
- 1:51Well, this one's sad to me.
- 1:52The Toyota Land Cruiser.
- 1:54Is the first one listed here because I'm always so prepared for these
- 1:58drive throughs as our listeners know.
- 1:59I don't know if this is just in the U.
- 2:01S.
- 2:01or if this is across the board.
- 2:03Now the Land Cruiser in the U.
- 2:04S.
- 2:05was a bit of a hard pill to swallow because it was 90 grand.
- 2:09I don't know who was paying 90 grand for a Toyota that didn't have an L badge on it.
- 2:14Yeah, so the Land Cruiser is going away.
- 2:16I am not sad to see the next vehicle on this list going away.
- 2:19That is the Land Cruiser.
- 2:21Probably worst looking car that we've seen the last 20 years, which is the BMW i3.
- 2:25No, I don't wouldn't say it's the worst looking car.
- 2:29And you know, it has normal sized grills for BMW.
- 2:33So already it looks better than the new BMWs.
- 2:37These are little grills compared to BMW.
- 2:40I mean, if they put the new grills on this thing, it would just be grill
- 2:44in the front ones from the 7th year.
- 2:47I grill the grill.
- 2:50I think Apple patented that terminology, the eye grill, plug it in your iPhone.
- 2:55But, you know, on this list to no one's surprises.
- 2:58All of the Volvo station wagons.
- 3:00I mean, very handsome vehicles, but they just didn't sell.
- 3:03They're beautiful.
- 3:04The V90, I thought when it first came out was a gorgeous wagon.
- 3:09The problem was you couldn't get a V90 unless you special ordered it.
- 3:14You could get cross countries or cross tour, whatever they called it.
- 3:17You could get those on the dealer lots, but the V90 had to be a special order.
- 3:20That one's not going away apparently.
- 3:22So not all Volvo wagons are leaving.
- 3:25We test drove the smaller one, I think it was the V60 when that one came out.
- 3:29And it was cool.
- 3:30The price tag was hefty.
- 3:32I think the only problem, because we had some very specific shopping criteria,
- 3:35was the cargo space was pretty small and the roof line was pretty low slung.
- 3:40So it made it kind of cramped compared to other vehicles we were looking at.
- 3:43It's not a surprise.
- 3:44We've talked about this on our, what should I buy a station wagons episode
- 3:48where it's diminishing returns in terms of manufacturers making station wagons.
- 3:53Right.
- 3:53And as we know, everybody's in love with SUVs, but they're just giant hatchbacks.
- 3:57I guess say lovey.
- 3:58Right.
- 3:59And along with that hatchbacks that are going away or CUVs, I guess you want
- 4:02to call it the short lived CX three by Mazda to no one's surprise, but it's
- 4:08being replaced by the CX three zero.
- 4:11What exactly is the difference?
- 4:13I thought that was their weird rotary hybrid thing that we had
- 4:16talked about a few months back.
- 4:18The CX 30 is not hybrid.
- 4:21They run on gasoline.
- 4:22Does that have that holy grail motor that they came out with?
- 4:26I don't know.
- 4:26It's listed as a Skyactiv G 2.
- 4:295 turbo engine, 250 horsepower, 324 pounds of torque, 93 octane fuel.
- 4:34But I thought we reported on them using that same chassis and
- 4:38body to put in a rotary hybrid.
- 4:40They were working on some experimental.
- 4:42Something rather, but it's never come to fruition.
- 4:44Sorry, Tom.
- 4:45They're not bringing back another rotary anytime soon.
- 4:47Yes, but this is a car you can buy today and it's replaced the
- 4:50Mazda CX3 and they look the same.
- 4:52This is the Mazda CX3 is replaced by the Mazda CX3 Zero.
- 4:58It must be like zero people will buy it.
- 5:00It must be like two inches bigger.
- 5:01I don't know.
- 5:02On that list also includes.
- 5:04Mazda six.
- 5:06I haven't seen one of those in a while.
- 5:08There's other cars like the pole star by Volvo, which was a cool, I didn't
- 5:12know that it was going to be a real car.
- 5:13I thought it was a concept.
- 5:14I think it's neat, but you know, the days of the two door
- 5:16coupe are pretty much dead.
- 5:18And on this list are two cars that are also quite similar.
- 5:21So One we talked about, I think almost a year ago, and it's not the Honda
- 5:25Civic, it's the Volkswagen Golf.
- 5:27Obviously the two of our golfs are already gone.
- 5:30Volkswagen is leaving behind the GTI and the Golf R.
- 5:33And along with that Hyundai is following suit by leaving behind
- 5:37the Veloster N and killing off the rest of the Veloster line and models
- 5:41and packages that were available.
- 5:43So that rounds out like the top 10 cars that are dead for 2022.
- 5:47All of these are ICE cars, right?
- 5:49There aren't any hybrids leaving this list.
- 5:51But.
- 5:51The future is electric as we know.
- 5:53So there is, there is the Honda Clarity is leaving.
- 5:57Oh yeah.
- 5:58Sorry.
- 5:58I forgot about that.
- 5:59Just like I forgot about, you've got a blind spot for Honda's period.
- 6:04You just read Honda and it's just one, one, one, one, one, one, one.
- 6:07You didn't bother reading the rest.
- 6:09I feel, I apologize to the three and a half people that bought Honda Clarity's.
- 6:13I didn't even know they existed.
- 6:15I thought they were like, it's, Honda does this weird thing where they
- 6:18come out with these really innovative forward looking vehicles and they
- 6:22release them in Calabasas or like one small section of the country.
- 6:28This is a California only car, a fuel cell.
- 6:30I think they had some propane cars.
- 6:32They had some hydrogen cars.
- 6:33Everything is.
- 6:34California only.
- 6:35So I'm not sad to see it go.
- 6:37Cause I wasn't around to see it here.
- 6:39I feel like it was a soft launch and there wasn't any big hubbub about it.
- 6:43Or maybe there wasn't, we missed it.
- 6:44It's just something that's not on the radar.
- 6:46It's not the most attractive car in the world.
- 6:48I mean, from certain angles, you're like, yeah, it kind of looks like the new.
- 6:51Integra, like you said, I'm not gonna be sad to see it go.
- 6:55You know, to me it looks like a maxima.
- 6:57Okay, let's say that's the only EV on the list.
- 6:59There's five other EVs or more that are gonna replace it, and those are also on
- 7:04a listicle provided by car and driver.
- 7:07So what's on our list here of new and expected EVs?
- 7:10The Audi A six E-Tron, yet another e-tron.
- 7:16The Audi Q4.
- 7:18Yeah.
- 7:20I saw an Audi A3 e tron the other day, and I was almost thinking the guys
- 7:25just stuck a badge on the side of it.
- 7:28That was the first e tron outside of like the race cars and stuff.
- 7:32It was like the e golf and it was yet again, like the clarity, a car that.
- 7:35They didn't really advertise.
- 7:37I actually rode in an A3 e tron.
- 7:39A friend of mine owns one in California and I was actually
- 7:42pretty impressed with it.
- 7:43Bragging about all the numbers and all this kind of stuff, but
- 7:46it's one of those deals where it was kind of like a zombie car.
- 7:49And we'll talk about those in a moment where they couldn't sell.
- 7:51They were sitting on lots forever, but the markup was so high that
- 7:54nobody was going to buy them.
- 7:55I mean, if you're into it for the California credits, you
- 7:57know, absolutely go for it.
- 7:59The non surprises are on this list are yes, All the trons,
- 8:02all the, the numbers are coming.
- 8:05Well, the, the next one's the BMWI four e-tron and the, and the, and all the I,
- 8:11all the numbers of the I, the BMW, even though the I threes going away, the I
- 8:15four, the I seven, the ix, we get it.
- 8:17The, the Germans know their vowels.
- 8:19We get it.
- 8:20The E's and the i's, they're all coming.
- 8:23I owe you and sometimes why ? I think Y goes to this Bollinger B one and B two.
- 8:29Which I believe we talked about a while ago, maybe.
- 8:33Very utilitarian, very geometric.
- 8:37I mean, how do you make an old Land Rover uglier?
- 8:39Uh, it's, it's very simplistic.
- 8:41Two and a half people might buy this.
- 8:43I mean, it's also starts at 125, 000.
- 8:45Oh, that hurts.
- 8:47It's going to be a niche market nonetheless, but you have your
- 8:50choice of the B1 or the B2, the B2 being the pickup truck.
- 8:54Are they both greenhouses?
- 8:55Like, are you guys seeing this roof?
- 8:57Oh yeah.
- 8:57It looks to me like they took an old British phone booth and put wheels on
- 9:02it and then they called it a rain roof.
- 9:06Turned it on its side.
- 9:08I feel like they missed an opportunity to call it TARDIS 1 and TARDIS 2.
- 9:12Pretty much.
- 9:12And then we have like three or four entries from GM that all look the same.
- 9:16Well, do you think the Buick Electra looks the same as what?
- 9:21I mean, it's got that same snout as the Lyric and the Celestique, however
- 9:26you pronounce that, and the Trailblazer and the Blazer and the Equinox,
- 9:29they all kind of just look the same, especially the Equinox and that Buick,
- 9:33they got almost the same beak on them.
- 9:34I would not say that at all, but they are reminiscent of each other, but this
- 9:39Buick is very angular in the front.
- 9:42Yes, it is.
- 9:42It looks more like a Mazda CX 3 that's leaving.
- 9:45If you had just shown this where there's no badging on this car, cover the wheels,
- 9:50I wouldn't have known it was a GM product.
- 9:52I would have guessed it was Japanese.
- 9:53I don't like those doors.
- 9:55I think that is totally useless.
- 9:57They're like double sided scissor doors, meaning the back and the front both,
- 10:02both scissor for all your passengers.
- 10:04I doubt the production model would ever come like that.
- 10:06Probably not, even though that's space savings and parking lots and things like
- 10:10that, that's never actually ever come to fruition on anything but a hypercar, so.
- 10:14Yeah, I don't see it passing NHSTA standards or something.
- 10:18Some law.
- 10:20Without a B Tiller, no way.
- 10:21But I do have to say, we've talked about the GM products, boring.
- 10:25I found my next vehicle right here under the GM products.
- 10:29It's the canoe.
- 10:32All right.
- 10:32All right.
- 10:33Okay.
- 10:33That cab over pickup truck looks really, really legit to me.
- 10:37I think that's really slick in a sort of Jurassic park was the
- 10:41future 25 years ago sort of way.
- 10:44Like I think these look really cool.
- 10:47These are the futuristic renditions of what we think in the year 2050,
- 10:53which is like around the corner, everything was going to be Jetsons.
- 10:57Like these are the vehicles that would have been driving.
- 11:00The van version of the canoe definitely looks like a Renault is fast.
- 11:04I mean, that's, that's Brett's next tow vehicle.
- 11:07What are you talking about?
- 11:09That's the equivalent of the church fan for the Korean writing on the side.
- 11:13There are some bands right now that are very similar and I don't think
- 11:16they're made by canoe or canoe or however it's pronounced that are
- 11:20running around doing autonomous testing, delivery vehicles and things like that,
- 11:24particularly in California right now.
- 11:26So, you know, who knows what the future of this is.
- 11:28Those wacky Californians.
- 11:30Since you're a Chrysler fan.
- 11:31Yeah, this airflow looks really nice.
- 11:34Like it's reminiscent of the 200 a little bit.
- 11:37I like the back too, except for the C pillar, or actually I guess it
- 11:41would be the D pillar is kind of oddly cut, but I understand, you
- 11:45know, that's the way now with these weird angular rear windows and stuff.
- 11:49But the back of it is reminiscent of an e tron of all things,
- 11:52but I like the way it looks.
- 11:54It's, it's, it's, It's very Italian.
- 11:55It's not very Chrysler, but you know, like we speculated in months past,
- 11:59Chrysler may be the rebirth of these EVs because the brand doesn't really have
- 12:04anything right now when you compare it to Ram and Dodge and the other offerings
- 12:08that are under the same umbrella.
- 12:09I think this is a good opportunity for them to capitalize on the EV space.
- 12:13I want to know why there's no Chrysler EV PT cruiser.
- 12:23I have no answer for that.
- 12:25And my mind immediately says Mach E when I hear that combination,
- 12:31just like, no, it's not happening.
- 12:33I mean, this list goes on basically in alphabetical order, manufacturers,
- 12:38A through Z, essentially, you know, some of these aren't anything
- 12:41new because they're, they're.
- 12:42We're already known to be expected this year, so hopefully they should be coming
- 12:46out this year, barring hashtag chips, others are 23, 24, 25 and things we've hit
- 12:52on already before some of the offerings from like Hyundai and Mercedes as well.
- 12:57You're right.
- 12:58I think there's a couple surprises on here.
- 13:00I would say like the Fisker SUV.
- 13:03Made me give it the hairy eyebrow because I'm like, Fisker is not
- 13:06known for building a CUV SUV.
- 13:09So I'm like, I don't know, stick to building Aston Martin competitor.
- 13:12Cause that's what Fisker is kind of known for is the sporty
- 13:14coupes and those convertibles.
- 13:15But really going into the SUV market, I'm almost like to stop.
- 13:19What about the Lagonda?
- 13:20It confuses me.
- 13:21Cause is that an Aston Martin or is that just its own thing?
- 13:24Aston Martin spun off the name.
- 13:26As their electric luxury brand.
- 13:29Again, there's some stuff that's undercover here.
- 13:31There's some entries by Volvo, the new Porsches.
- 13:33To your point, Tanya, things that we've talked about, I will say one of
- 13:37the coolest things on here is probably this Rivian again, we're pretty excited
- 13:40about that and we're going to talk a little bit more about the Sony Vision S.
- 13:43show.
- 13:45And the thing I think that did surprise me because it was going
- 13:48to be my hot take this month.
- 13:49You know, where is Subaru in the next five years?
- 13:53They are finally coming to the table with an EV expected this
- 13:56year known as the Solterra.
- 13:58I can't say I'm a fan.
- 13:59of the body cladding, but I'm glad to see that, you know, super is doing something
- 14:04cause I was afraid that they were going to be the way of the dodo bird here in
- 14:07the next couple of years because they just, there was no talk around Subaru
- 14:11producing anything in the EV space to just piggyback off that for a hot second.
- 14:15Apparently A couple of days ago at the Tokyo auto salon, they unveiled
- 14:20a 1, 073 horsepower STI ERA electric track car that is supposed to spank all
- 14:29records of electric race cars on the Nürburgring or some crazy thing like that.
- 14:33So they might not have.
- 14:35Held their cards out yet, what they were doing, but clearly they've been
- 14:38doing something in the background.
- 14:39I mean, I am wholly certain that even though it's electric, it will
- 14:42find a way to spin a rod bearing.
- 14:44So, you know, it's just tradition within the halls of Subaru, but
- 14:47you know, Hey, whatever, we'll, we'll see how it turns out.
- 14:49Now I will say this as you go through the list.
- 14:51I didn't realize that the Subaru entry and they have done cross work with other
- 14:56manufacturers before the Toyota BZ4X and the Subaru Solterra look a lot alike and
- 15:02the dead giveaway is that front clip.
- 15:04It actually says the Solterra will be based on the same platform
- 15:08as the Toyota BZ4X electric.
- 15:10Well, see, there we go.
- 15:13Good job, Brad.
- 15:14Welcome back because I had the exact same thought and I went back
- 15:18and I was like looking at it and then I saw, oh yeah, Toyota before.
- 15:21Yes.
- 15:21So it's, it's basically a wrap for which they already have a hybrid wrap for now.
- 15:26So, all right, whatever, which by the way, Toyota, I saw a commercial earlier
- 15:30today for a Toyota Corolla cross.
- 15:33Basically a RAV4 rebadges a Corolla Cross.
- 15:38I don't know if they're keeping the RAV4 name, but there is a Corolla SUV
- 15:43coming to the market that nobody wanted.
- 15:46Why just, yeah, you have your RAV4.
- 15:49Make it a wrap three.
- 15:50I don't know.
- 15:51I think my biggest question about everything on this list, I mean,
- 15:54and this spans the gamut, right?
- 15:56From the Tesla cyber truck to, you know, the Chevy trailblazer
- 16:01to everything in between.
- 16:02How many of these are going to be sub 40 K for the everyday user?
- 16:08For the, you know, the driver that's just starting out or maybe even the,
- 16:12you know, now newly minted professional college graduate who's looking for
- 16:15their first, you know, kind of adult car that isn't a hand me down from
- 16:19their grandparents or their parents.
- 16:20Where is that sub, I guess now by 2022 standards of inflation, 40, 000 car.
- 16:26I just, I don't see it yet.
- 16:27You know what I mean?
- 16:28A lot of people have complained about that because it's just,
- 16:32everything's way too expensive.
- 16:34So what they're doing is instead of a sub $40,000 car,
- 16:38they've got longer loan terms.
- 16:41Seven to 10 year loan terms are gonna take over for the more expensive vehicles.
- 16:46. I'm gonna leave that where it is to tease up Brad's favorite
- 16:50section, lost and Found.
- 16:51We've got some zombie cars that are still for sale of dealer lots.
- 16:55Before I go further into these zombie cars, they should probably just start
- 16:58dismantling them because nobody wants them in the first place and start using the
- 17:02chips hashtag chips in the newer cars.
- 17:04Can they do that?
- 17:05Can they retrofit the chips?
- 17:06You know, I would think that they double dip their chip,
- 17:10never double dip your chip.
- 17:11I often wonder if they could recycle some of the cars from the last five years and
- 17:15reuse some of the chips that are there.
- 17:17Like everything else have to have the snap dragon 12 core
- 17:20because the eight core isn't fast enough and the automotive world.
- 17:24None of the gear that we really use in the cars I feel is that sophisticated
- 17:28and there's probably chips that can be reused from even 10 or 15 years
- 17:32ago to get some of this stuff done.
- 17:34Zombie cars, cars that are discontinued, but still brand new onto your lots.
- 17:38What do we got Brad?
- 17:39We've got a BMW 6 series.
- 17:41They sold 55 BMW six series.
- 17:44And when did they stop making that car?
- 17:452019 there's another BMW on this list.
- 17:49The BMW I eight, when did they stop making that?
- 17:51I don't know.
- 17:52I don't even know that it was sold.
- 17:54Whatever.
- 17:54Yeah.
- 17:54Right.
- 17:55Only person I know that has one is James Clay.
- 17:57And he admitted that when he was on the BMW episode.
- 17:59No, this is so, you know, two people that had one because, uh,
- 18:03What's his face from HOD had one.
- 18:05Oh, yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 18:07The total sales number here, they discontinued the car, and
- 18:10then how many they've sold, brand new, since discontinuing.
- 18:13Is there a number here that's like, maybe they shouldn't have discontinued it?
- 18:17Because my least favorite car, the Impala, is on this list.
- 18:21I was, I was like, Apparently still sold 750 of them last year.
- 18:27That was 750 last year.
- 18:29According to that is a very small number in the grand
- 18:32scheme of car sold for the year.
- 18:35That's 750 more than you expected to be sold.
- 18:38Yeah.
- 18:39Is this because these car manufacturers are saving these turds from the
- 18:43wrecker because they can't put newer models on the lots, so dealers are
- 18:48going around and finding these other cars that they can sell as new.
- 18:51I'm also wondering, what's the threshold on the demo cars?
- 18:54Don't they have to exceed a certain mileage before they're considered used,
- 18:59but they can still be new, even if they have like 300 miles on them or something.
- 19:02I don't think the mileage has anything to do with it.
- 19:04I think if it's titled in anything other than the dealership, then
- 19:07it's considered a used car.
- 19:08Oh, so then there you go.
- 19:10So I'm wondering if maybe some of these Impalas were demo cars on
- 19:13the lot that were just never sold.
- 19:15So 750 dealerships in the U S that still had one Impala doesn't seem too
- 19:21impossible in the grand scheme of things.
- 19:23There were 750 people that wanted that car.
- 19:27I'm going the other way.
- 19:28It was one dealership that had 750 Impalas.
- 19:33They doubled down on the Impalas.
- 19:35They shorted the Impala market.
- 19:37The Chrysler ones are no surprise, right?
- 19:40The, the 200, the Town and Country, the Dart.
- 19:44Again, those are all feel like loaner cars that just never sold.
- 19:48And the numbers are so small, 15, four and 10.
- 19:51I mean, shoot.
- 19:52I think there were.
- 19:5310 of them at the local dealership here, you know?
- 19:55Yeah, the Dodge Viper sold four total sales.
- 19:57Two of them went to Andrew Bank.
- 20:02We'll talk about more on that in a couple weeks.
- 20:05So the award on this list for the oldest new car goes to the Toyota FJ Cruiser.
- 20:11I know, right?
- 20:12Apparently some dealership kept one on the lot since 2014.
- 20:17It finally sold it last year.
- 20:19I mean, there's some other interesting surprises on here.
- 20:22The Patriot.
- 20:22I'm, I'm shocked.
- 20:23There's still some around that are new, but I think the 370 Z out of
- 20:27all these cars got my attention.
- 20:29I mean, the Viper, we joke about it every month.
- 20:31And then I'd say right behind the 370Z was that there were 51 total sales of the Fiat
- 20:35500 last year and they stopped producing that car like a couple years ago as well.
- 20:39And it's like, really, I guess the Fiat 500 maybe isn't a
- 20:42stretch because it wasn't that popular unless you lived there.
- 20:46Buy yourself with three cats and didn't drive anywhere.
- 20:49Well, I was going to say the Vipers, the only one on this list that actually
- 20:52makes sense to me because it's such a low volume vehicle, it's such a niche
- 20:56market that of course, there's going to be some that are hanging around.
- 21:00I learned a super fun fact about the Viper, which we'll talk
- 21:02about more in the coming weeks.
- 21:04They only produced roughly 32, 000 Vipers in the entire run.
- 21:09Of the Viper line from generation one to generation five, that is less
- 21:13than the total number of Corvettes that are produced in a single year.
- 21:17To wrap all that up, if you are not interested in an EV, not sad that any
- 21:21of these cars are going away and you're not interested in buying a zombie car,
- 21:26Jalopnik put together an article, the top used cars that you should buy in
- 21:30this used car craze that's going on.
- 21:32And they just happened to be, let's see, we've got the PT Cruiser, the economical
- 21:36family hauler, one of my personal Favorites, the PT cruiser, we've got
- 21:42the lap of luxury car is the, uh, the PT cruiser, which is a little bit nicer.
- 21:47It's got the chromed out wheels and the pristine metallic paint and the plastic
- 21:53bumper covers for the raucous hot hatch.
- 21:56We've got a competitor to the H H R S S the PT cruiser SRT four, which is
- 22:02basically a Dodge neon SRT for, Oh, excuse me, a Dodge SRT four is not a
- 22:07neon, even though it looks like a neon and talks like a neon and it's a neon.
- 22:11I didn't even know there was a PT cruiser GT.
- 22:16What?
- 22:16Oh, yes, yes.
- 22:18It's five different models of the PT cruiser.
- 22:20It's amazing.
- 22:22But if you're looking for something low mileage and a collector piece,
- 22:26you can look at the PT cruiser.
- 22:30And finally, if you want some of that summer vibes, drop top
- 22:33action, what should we get Brad?
- 22:35Well, you can opt for the Nissan Murano cross cabriolet, but if you can't find
- 22:41one of those, because they're so desirable and hard to get, you can get yourself.
- 22:46So I got to admit, you know, what's cool about the PT cruiser convertible
- 22:50that I just noticed now, well that it's, you know, like an SRT for neon.
- 22:55That isn't a neon.
- 22:56It's actually two door.
- 22:58I was just about to say it's two door.
- 22:59It's still stupid, but you know, Hey, whatever.
- 23:01I mean, well, it's the PT cruiser convertible.
- 23:06Turbo is only 4, 700.
- 23:09That's a value for money.
- 23:11All things considered, in a car market where cars are selling for three or four
- 23:17times their actual value that you can get a PT cruiser convertible for 4, 700.
- 23:23But look at those wheels.
- 23:24I mean, those are some sporty wheels.
- 23:26Talk about a hot take.
- 23:27The used car market is so crazy right now.
- 23:30A friend of mine actually told me the other day, he was like, do you think
- 23:32it makes sense to purchase your leased vehicle and then go resell it yourself?
- 23:38Like on cars.
- 23:38com or autotrader or something like that?
- 23:40Brad, as a money guy, do you think that's a viable option for somebody?
- 23:43It depends on your car.
- 23:45I mean, if you leased a PT Cruiser , then no, you don't wanna
- 23:50buy out your lease and resell it.
- 23:53But if you lease like a ca, like a B, like a BMW four series or something, like a BMW
- 23:58three series, 'cause those are lease cars all the time by the lower level executives
- 24:02and stuff like that, companies lease 'em out for their people to give company cars
- 24:06and then, yeah, it could be worth it.
- 24:08You'd obviously have to do the math on that, but it's gotta be a car that.
- 24:12I mean, check the prices of what cars are selling for and
- 24:15check what the least buyout is.
- 24:17And if one number is higher than the other, then yes, do it.
- 24:19If one number is lower than the other, then no, it's not a good idea.
- 24:22So you have to do a little bit of prospecting, right?
- 24:24You got to do your research.
- 24:25You can't just say, Oh, I got this car and I'm going to buy it out
- 24:29and then I'm going to flip it.
- 24:30It's not like flipping houses, although some people equate it to
- 24:33that, but to your point, you got to do the legwork and look into it.
- 24:35One other thought did cross my mind, especially when you talk about all these
- 24:38EVs and, you know, I mentioned, where's that sub 40, 000 vehicle for that entry
- 24:44level driver and not necessarily the teenage driver, but that newly minted
- 24:48professional got me thinking because I just recently watched the new show
- 24:53that just aired called American auto.
- 24:55One of the episodes was about this 10, 000 car.
- 24:58And what hit me was that they said.
- 25:00If you can't afford a 10, 000 used car, why would you want to
- 25:06buy a low cost brand new car?
- 25:09Like what are you getting for 10 grand?
- 25:10And it kind of got me thinking, maybe next month we take a look
- 25:13at some really top value cars and In that 10 to 20 grand range and
- 25:19pick those out for lost and found.
- 25:20What do you think, Brad?
- 25:21I think that's a great idea.
- 25:22I can tell you what I'm going to do right now.
- 25:24I'm going to come back with a whole slew of formerly a hundred thousand
- 25:28dollar luxury cars that you can get now for 9, 500 and it's going to be
- 25:32a terrible idea and nobody should ever take my advice when I do that.
- 25:35Yeah, because it cost you 100 grand to fix them, right?
- 25:37At the end of the day, 100, 000 car.
- 25:40You may buy it for 9, 500, but it's still 100, 000 car with 100, 000 car
- 25:45maintenance, or maybe we spin it off into a, what should I buy episode
- 25:49looking for the best bang for the buck?
- 25:51How about that?
- 25:52Actually, the best car to buy is a Volkswagen Phaeton.
- 25:55You'll thank me.
- 25:56Either a Phaeton or the V10 diesel Touareg.
- 25:59I hear those cars are as reliable as a Swiss watch.
- 26:05Well, that's a great transition into Volkswagen and Audi news.
- 26:09So what's hot or maybe I should say What's now considered not so hot.
- 26:14Apparently the new Lamborghini Countach is not so hot.
- 26:17According to Marcello Gandini.
- 26:20And who is this fabled Gandini?
- 26:22It's probably the first time people are hearing his name.
- 26:24He's the guy who designed the original one.
- 26:26What?
- 26:29And he's saying, nope, I do not approve.
- 26:32I put my name next to this one.
- 26:34We have mixed feelings about the new Kuntosh.
- 26:37It's either love it or hate it by a lot of people, but when the original
- 26:40designer of not just a Kuntosh, but the Diablo and the Miura comes back
- 26:45and says, uh, what does that say?
- 26:48What does that mean?
- 26:49Probably be an indication.
- 26:51That they shouldn't have made the back side view look like something
- 26:56from Michael Bay's Transformer movie.
- 26:58I just love the fact that, as it says in the article, the design icon makes an
- 27:05official statement distancing himself.
- 27:08From the limited production supercar like, wow, that is damn,
- 27:12I mean, that speaks volumes.
- 27:13Personally, I'm a huge fan of the new Lamborghini Countach, although
- 27:16it could have been a Lamborghini, whatever the hell it didn't have to be
- 27:19called the Countach, but I am sensing some sour grapes here that maybe Mr.
- 27:25Gandini hadn't been consulted.
- 27:28On the new car and he's throwing shade at Lamborghini or Volkswagen because they
- 27:35didn't reach out to him for his input when they were doing this retro version.
- 27:41That would be a very Italian thing to do.
- 27:45So, you know what, you might be right.
- 27:50So what else is going on in the Volkswagen out in Porsche world?
- 27:53Apparently, there's more Pikes Peak record breaking.
- 27:56Uh, you know, that's a bit of clickbait.
- 27:58So you want to know what that's all about?
- 28:00A gentleman drove to the top of Pikes Peak out in Colorado Springs
- 28:03and realized he only had 12 miles of battery range left in his Taycan.
- 28:08Decided, well, we're going to ride the brakes the whole way down or use
- 28:11the regen and see how far we can get.
- 28:13And actually, His test was pretty cool because it was twofold.
- 28:17And I think what was more impressive than anything else was that when they come down
- 28:21to about 11, 000 feet from the summit of Pikes Peak, there's actually a mandatory
- 28:25break check and the cops, you know, won't let you go and things like that.
- 28:29They seem, you know, numbers as high as like 900 degrees coming from breaks
- 28:33and to take him because it's using the region system instead of using the brakes.
- 28:36And it.
- 28:37Plus it has those big PCCB ceramic, you know, ridiculous Porsche racing brakes.
- 28:41Anyway, it was like 67 degrees on the rotor.
- 28:44It was like ambient air temperature.
- 28:46And he said, by the time he was done with it, all reached the bottom.
- 28:49He had like region, something like 45 miles of range.
- 28:53And then he goes, They went from having 12 miles of range left to
- 28:56get back to the top or wherever to when they got down to the Colorado
- 29:00Springs, they had over a hundred miles.
- 29:02Yeah, I was going to say it was in two phases the way he wrote.
- 29:05He's like, we had X amount when we reached the bottom of Pikes Peak and because
- 29:08it continues to go down into the city, then they regen even more and they had
- 29:13about a hundred miles of range left.
- 29:14So yeah, you're absolutely right.
- 29:15So, I mean, I think, you know, yeah, it's a little bit misleading at first,
- 29:19what, which records were broken.
- 29:20It was a record for the brake temperature, basically, and then maybe even the brake
- 29:25regeneration, since that's obviously new and specific to electrical vehicles,
- 29:29but that's pretty cool in terms of the capability of the brake regen.
- 29:33Yeah.
- 29:34Your everyday user is not going to see that because we don't, we don't commute
- 29:38from the top of Pike's Peak down.
- 29:40Yeah, exactly.
- 29:41And the other thing too, is if those brakes are anything like the ones on
- 29:46the Cayman GT4, I've heard from owners that, you know, we'll convert to steel
- 29:51rotors because, you know, for track use and stuff like that, because those
- 29:54PCCB rotors are almost 1, 500 a piece.
- 29:58I mean, can you imagine, I mean, I wouldn't want to wear out a set of those
- 30:00rotors coming down off of Pike's Peak.
- 30:03on a regular basis.
- 30:04That would be insane.
- 30:05You know, Pike's Peak is famous for rally and little known fact, Porsche
- 30:09entered cars like the 911 SC, the 959 Group B, and then there was an
- 30:15alternative to that known as the 953 that they campaigned back in the 80s,
- 30:19and they've been hinting for years.
- 30:21And now they're saying that in 2022, Porsche may release a limited production
- 30:26package known as the Safari 911.
- 30:28I'm just thinking about why anybody cares, right?
- 30:32What's the point of this?
- 30:34I don't know.
- 30:34Because if you look into the specs, it's a 911.
- 30:37That's lifted.
- 30:38It loses a bunch of the features of the 911's typical suspension.
- 30:42Nothing else has really changed the car.
- 30:44They did widen the hips a little bit to put bigger tires
- 30:47underneath of it, but it's ascent and descent angles are garbage.
- 30:51You would never use this off road.
- 30:53So the folks that are buying it or driving where with it again, they're driving
- 30:56to their temperature controlled storage unit to flip the car in about 10 years.
- 31:02Yeah, I just feel like Dr.
- 31:03Ferdman Porsche is like rolling over in his grave hearing about this.
- 31:07I'm like, good God, this is terrible.
- 31:08Yeah, this, this is purely a collector car.
- 31:11Nobody's actually going to buy this to drive.
- 31:13And it looks awful.
- 31:15I mean, it just looks like a 911.
- 31:16It looks like a lifted 911.
- 31:18Yeah, it looks terrible.
- 31:19Not a fan.
- 31:20But there's some news coming out of Bugatti.
- 31:22You know, Volkswagen's crown jewel as they present themselves is
- 31:26now being run by a 33 year old.
- 31:28But not just.
- 31:29any 33 year old.
- 31:31It's the head of RIMAC.
- 31:32And I actually learned something really important about this article because there
- 31:36wasn't any content in it that was of any value other than learning how to properly
- 31:40pronounce his first and last name.
- 31:44When you read it in English, it reads mate RIMAC.
- 31:47Like we're pretty used to pronouncing RIMAC, but apparently the formerly
- 31:51Yugoslavian born now You know, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Croatia, you know, it's like
- 31:56change names like 10 times it's pronounced Matti and the last name is remats remats.
- 32:04I mean, it's not remosh and all these other rimac and all these variants we're
- 32:08talking about, but you know what, I'm just going to continue saying remac because
- 32:11it's easier and I'll fumble over it a lot less often, but one other piece of.
- 32:15Golden nugget inside that article that I pulled was a quote where he
- 32:19talked about how he got started.
- 32:21And I thought he was quite ballsy walking up to Koenigsegg and
- 32:26saying, Hey, I want to design a TV.
- 32:28What do I need to do?
- 32:29Like, damn, dude, that's pretty cool.
- 32:31So he's seen as this like prodigy, right?
- 32:33He's seen as Kind of like Ferdinand Porsche reborn type of deal.
- 32:37And so this marriage, you know, between Rimac and Bugatti, and obviously
- 32:40with VAG behind the scenes with, you know, 45 percent of the controlling
- 32:44stock is, is awesome for them putting a lot of money into the companies.
- 32:47And there's two companies, there's Rimac automotive and there's
- 32:50the Rimac technology branch and all this kind of thing.
- 32:52But one thing I thought was interesting personality wise, he tends to run
- 32:55very hot and cold on a lot of things.
- 32:57And he's very upfront about the things that he talks about, but.
- 33:00I like that he realized kind of up front and it took a stab at companies
- 33:05that we've talked about on previous months of the show, where he says
- 33:08that he quickly realized putting electric motors into old cars wasn't
- 33:13a viable business plan long term.
- 33:16So he decided instead that he would engineer his own high
- 33:19performance electric cars.
- 33:20From the word go.
- 33:22And I'm like, we've talked about this a bunch of times, you know, taking
- 33:25an old Aston Martin, like DP six and retrofitting an EV, you're doing a
- 33:30disservice to the collector car market.
- 33:31You know, some people would call them an abomination or whatever,
- 33:34but I just, yeah, I agree with him.
- 33:36I don't think it's a viable business solution long term.
- 33:39Good for him.
- 33:41I'm glad.
- 33:41I like to see this.
- 33:42I think it's cool.
- 33:43Yeah.
- 33:43I'm excited to see where Bugatti goes.
- 33:45And one of his other quotes was Bugatti has been around for 112
- 33:49years and he's here to usher Bugatti for the next 112 years.
- 33:52I mean, that would make him a total of 145 years old if he makes it that
- 33:56far, but Hey, you know, you never, it could happen as long as it doesn't SUV.
- 34:01I'm perfectly happy with it.
- 34:04Well, what's going on in the rest of lower Saxony, our
- 34:08friends over at Mercedes and BMW.
- 34:10There's things coming, right?
- 34:11We've got all the, the eye variants, BMW, we've got some Mercedes.
- 34:15So we're going to talk about later, I guess, the most interesting thing,
- 34:19maybe at the consumer electronics show a week or two ago, BMW debuted their
- 34:25technology for color changing paint.
- 34:29You have my attention.
- 34:30Oh my God.
- 34:33No way.
- 34:34What was that movie?
- 34:35What was that movie where the lady was sitting at her desk and like
- 34:38changing her fingernail colors?
- 34:40Like with like a pen, like she would tap her fingernails.
- 34:42You guys remember that?
- 34:43Yes, I do.
- 34:44I do not remember what movie it was.
- 34:46Some, it was some sci fi or some show or something, right?
- 34:49Yes, it was.
- 34:50It was.
- 34:50Yeah.
- 34:51But that's immediately where my mind went when I saw this.
- 34:54I was like, dude, this is going to be so cool.
- 34:57Yes.
- 34:57And no, right now it's limited to gray scale essentially.
- 35:01So you can shift between black, white, and gray.
- 35:04And the reason is it's actually using e reader.
- 35:07E Ink technology.
- 35:08So that's why it's a wrap.
- 35:11It's literally, yeah, some sort of wraps.
- 35:13It's basically Kindle screens all around the car.
- 35:17So you're able to manipulate those, but only in a gray scale, right?
- 35:20You can display your favorite book on the outside of your car as you're driving by.
- 35:25This is where the problem would lie in because if this technology expands and
- 35:31they're able to color or not color, right?
- 35:34And people now somehow.
- 35:35Gain the ability to put inappropriate pictures on the side of their car at
- 35:40will as their what's gonna happen.
- 35:43We don't need that as a society, you know, as much as I wish I had sometimes
- 35:48letters that I could make magically appear in my rear glass of the car
- 35:53to give them pointer, don't follow me so closely survivability, you know,
- 35:56we don't actually need that ability.
- 35:59It would cause much more problems than there's a positive flip side to this.
- 36:03If it works, it could be implemented on the sides of metro buses and things
- 36:08like that, where they could now do changing advertisements rather than
- 36:13those stationary things or those power consuming led panels, right?
- 36:17Because this stuff is so low power and whatnot.
- 36:21Again, I'm with you once that happens, you know, all of Vegas is going to turn into
- 36:25that and then it's going to get hacked and it's just going to be a free fall,
- 36:28especially during black hat and Defcon.
- 36:30Right.
- 36:31And, you know, the other space you could see an application for this is.
- 36:36Billboards camouflage and being able to instantly camo
- 36:41vehicles and things like that.
- 36:42But mainstream society, do we need this?
- 36:45No, no, we don't.
- 36:47So is this the verge of like stealth technology yet?
- 36:50Another like star Trek technology coming to life, right?
- 36:53Well, that's another thing we don't need to really people already can't drive
- 36:57and we're going to cloak a car into it.
- 37:00Like really they've been working on that before trying to use
- 37:04mirrors and TV screens and stuff.
- 37:06Yeah.
- 37:06I mean, there's definitely scientists out there that are
- 37:08working on the, I want three things.
- 37:12I want three things from this cloaking technology, a car that's called a defiant,
- 37:16and I want my GPS to sound like wharf.
- 37:18And then it will be perfect.
- 37:19Just be like deep space nine.
- 37:23All right.
- 37:24Let's move on from BMW to the world's fourth largest auto manufacturer.
- 37:29No longer part of the big three, Stellantis.
- 37:32So they put all these brands together and now they're fourth largest.
- 37:38I mean, when you go from these microcosms, I mean, you see, when, you
- 37:43know, we talked about months ago, I think Brad, you were still here, right?
- 37:46The party was over.
- 37:48The end is nigh the end of the muscle car.
- 37:50Dodge says time to go home, pack up your kids go.
- 37:53Well, that's not exactly true because as we know, there's zombie cars and
- 37:59Chrysler lots all over the place.
- 38:01So that means.
- 38:02By the math that they've projected here, the Chrysler Recharger will now officially
- 38:06be gone by 2024 with EVs arriving sometime in that time period to replace them.
- 38:11But as we discovered earlier, they'll be for sale six or eight
- 38:16years from now as well, right?
- 38:18So I know what Dodge is doing.
- 38:20So they're going to create a huge backlog or surplus.
- 38:24Of zombie cars, they can say, yeah, we stopped making those cars in 2024.
- 38:29Yeah.
- 38:29We're still padding our bottom line with these cars because we built hundreds
- 38:34of thousands of them in the last three years and they're still selling,
- 38:38but yeah, we stopped making them.
- 38:39They shouldn't count against our, our gas, I guess, uh, our miles.
- 38:44My MPG or whatever our regulations and the year 2049, you'll
- 38:48still be able to buy a Viper.
- 38:49You know, it's, it's, it's fine.
- 38:51So y'all are upset because, Oh no, they're not going to make their
- 38:5410, 000 billion horsepower gas guzzlers anymore, blah, blah, blah.
- 38:59But it's okay.
- 39:00Cause they're, they want to make EVs, which just means they're
- 39:02going to make some 9, 000.
- 39:03Gigawatt atrocity that is way more power than you need.
- 39:08So it's fine.
- 39:09I mean, Dodge is synonymous with idiocy and tire smoke.
- 39:12I mean, let's just, let's just boil it back.
- 39:14Right.
- 39:14So, I mean, yes, your point.
- 39:16Yeah.
- 39:169 trillion gigawatts and it'll just blow the tires off of anything.
- 39:21Now.
- 39:22You know, maybe they'll call it the Hellcat, Thunder, Cougar, Falcon,
- 39:25Bird, Red Eye, Demon, Wide Body, Big Dick, Energy Special Edition.
- 39:28You know, that's what it's going to come out with later.
- 39:30But this whole Never Lift campaign that they're starting to do
- 39:34is their new marketing thing for the next couple of years.
- 39:36I just don't get it.
- 39:39It's like they're talking out of both sides of their mouth.
- 39:41You know, on one hand, if you go back in time and look at some of these
- 39:44articles from like Reuters, you know, they were allegedly fined like hundreds
- 39:49of millions of dollars in penalties, you know, for the cafe fines and
- 39:53things like that because of the Hellcat and other engines and this and that.
- 39:56And then here we are, you know, still doing all these ridiculous.
- 39:59Ads and they're talking about muscle cars and I'm like, this
- 40:03is such an oxymoron, folks.
- 40:06Hot take electric muscle car.
- 40:09The point of muscle car is big engine, little car, all that kind of stuff.
- 40:13We just need to take all that out of the vocabulary.
- 40:16Like we need to just put it to bed.
- 40:17What about the Porsche?
- 40:18Take in turbo electric, turbo, non turbo turbo car.
- 40:23The turbo rotambulator.
- 40:24Yeah.
- 40:26The turbo flux capacitor.
- 40:28Yeah, exactly.
- 40:28How do you have a turbo on an EV unless it's a hybrid turbo?
- 40:32What?
- 40:33Whatever.
- 40:34I think it's one of those things where they're trying to ingratiate people
- 40:36because people understand turbo means it's better than the regular one or, you
- 40:41know, Muscle means better than plastic.
- 40:44Because people are dumb.
- 40:46Yeah, exactly.
- 40:47It's all marketing bullshit.
- 40:48In that comes a little ray of light.
- 40:50Please tell me it's a new Dodge Dart.
- 40:52No, it's not.
- 40:54The Peugeot e Legend.
- 40:55Have you guys seen this thing?
- 40:57A while ago, right?
- 40:58Yeah, but now they're talking about actually making it.
- 41:00And I'm like, wow, it is a good looking car.
- 41:04The only, the only downside, it's a two door.
- 41:07It does look like it's based sort of on the Challenger, but I
- 41:11thought we were done with two door.
- 41:13I mean, I'd drive it.
- 41:14I would too.
- 41:15Now, some other news coming out of Stellantis.
- 41:18And I'm going to read this.
- 41:19The international automaker that owns brands like Jeep Chrysler, Fiat,
- 41:22Ram, and Peugeot have entered in a wide ranging agreement with Amazon.
- 41:27The deal will put Amazon software in Stellantis vehicles, and we'll
- 41:30also put Stellantis electric vans into Amazon's delivery fleet.
- 41:33I mean, you've already seen the blue Ram vans running around that
- 41:38Amazon bought, so whoopie do there.
- 41:40What I'm wondering though, is all Mopar products from this point
- 41:44forward are going to be Alexa.
- 41:46Alexa, turn on car.
- 41:49Alexa, send the coordinates that I just drove to my mistress's house to my wife.
- 41:56That's the wrong website.
- 41:58It's the wrong Alexa.
- 42:00Alexa, please report to my insurance agency that I just did 95 in a 60.
- 42:06And add a loaf of bread to my shopping list.
- 42:09So there's always renderings flying around.
- 42:12There's some pretty cool ones out there.
- 42:14A team put together a rendering of what the Dodge Superbird would look like
- 42:17based on a current Dodge Challenger.
- 42:20And I thought that was pretty neat.
- 42:21Although I don't think we're in an era anymore of the big nose
- 42:25and big tail of the Superbird.
- 42:26I mean, that's a cool throwback, but I couldn't see parking
- 42:29that at the local Walmart.
- 42:31Superbird is one of my favorite cars of all time.
- 42:33It's just so long.
- 42:35I mean, I guess it's like an F 150 or a Silverado, right?
- 42:38No, I think they're longer.
- 42:39Now, that Alfa Romeo Nivola that was floating around for a while, a video
- 42:45link that was out there on YouTube, we posted in our show notes, I think that's
- 42:48a really cool reimagined Combination of the four C and the eight C competizione.
- 42:55I think it's a cool looking car.
- 42:56There was a version of that that I actually posted out on Garage
- 43:00Riot recently where they took that same Nivola and redesigned it yet
- 43:04again, kind of put this, you know, Milan sad clown kind of face on it.
- 43:08I think it's a cool looking car.
- 43:11It's just, I don't think alpha is ever going to build it.
- 43:13This is that guy that does the Volkswagen renderings.
- 43:16Yeah.
- 43:16And he does a really cool job.
- 43:18So I like them.
- 43:19I like looking at these, you know, they're a lot of fun, but you know,
- 43:22don't get my hopes up like that.
- 43:23Don't tease me.
- 43:24The front end almost looks like the Maserati MC12 or whatever.
- 43:28Yeah, exactly.
- 43:28I think that's where he probably got his inspiration from.
- 43:31And the back is reminiscent of older alphas as well with the big round
- 43:34lights and all that kind of thing.
- 43:35I think it looks cool.
- 43:36I think it does.
- 43:37I can dig it.
- 43:38So what else is going on in the world of Stellantis there, Tanya?
- 43:40Sounds like they're still having an odor problem.
- 43:43Wait, what?
- 43:43In their cars?
- 43:45No, at their factory.
- 43:46You know, there's some weird stuff going on, explosions and smelly
- 43:50factories and things like that, that we link to in our show notes.
- 43:53But there's also this really weirdly I'd say almost stupidly
- 43:58named vehicle coming out called the ASNOM and it's based on a ram.
- 44:03I think they misspelled Amazon.
- 44:06Looks like a Bentley got smashed.
- 44:09It's pretty freaking.
- 44:11Terrible.
- 44:11This is the new Aztec.
- 44:14And hence the name, I suppose.
- 44:16I mean, the interior isn't terrible other than like that weird bubbling
- 44:20seat looks stupid, but the rest of it isn't even horrible on the
- 44:24inside, but the outside is awful.
- 44:26I mean, you have like wine glass holder in the back.
- 44:28It looks like how luxurious rich people doing rich people things.
- 44:32I mean, I'm going to because I figured one of you two were saying what kind of.
- 44:36As whole is going to buy this as non
- 44:42moving on.
- 44:43So it's time for us to move on to our traditional domestic news,
- 44:46which is all Chevy and Ford based our Chevy and Ford news brought
- 44:50to you in part by American muscle.
- 44:52com your number one source for Mopar Chevy and Ford parts.
- 44:56So if you're looking for something new to spruce up your GM Ford
- 45:00or Dodge this winter, before the track season starts off, remember
- 45:04to head over to American muscle.
- 45:05com so what's going on in the world of GM.
- 45:08Well, it looks like the automaker is going to be dethroned as the
- 45:12number one auto seller in the U.
- 45:14S.
- 45:15I don't know that that's necessarily, we'll see if it sticks.
- 45:18Toyota is beating them out to be the number one car seller, but
- 45:24given the chip shortages and all the supply chain issues we have
- 45:27had over the last year and whatnot.
- 45:30Maybe this is a short term thing and they'll regain control of their kingdom.
- 45:34I think it's a little too early to tell.
- 45:35I feel like those ratings are somewhat misleading or somehow
- 45:39inflated because when we looked at that world map at the end of last
- 45:43year, about the top manufacturers in the world, Toyota seemed to come
- 45:47out on top, regardless of all this.
- 45:49And I mean, if Chevy's still selling Impalas and whatnot, zombie
- 45:53cars, I mean, I just don't get it.
- 45:54Toyota is above them in global sales.
- 45:58Oh, so this is America's largest.
- 46:00It's just America.
- 46:01So global sales is Toyota versus Volkswagen.
- 46:03They passed GM like a long time ago, Toyota.
- 46:06This is just American sales.
- 46:07So GM is number one or was number one and is about to be passed by Toyota.
- 46:13But a lot of those numbers, 30 plus percent down sales, I think Toyota, but.
- 46:18GM had 40 plus percent down sales, right?
- 46:21And a lot of that's all driven by the car shortages and this, that, and the other.
- 46:23So does it stick or not?
- 46:26I think remains to be seen over the next year or two.
- 46:28Right.
- 46:29So I'm going to ask this.
- 46:30What about the F 150?
- 46:31I thought that was like the best selling vehicle of all time in
- 46:34the galaxy, in the Milky way.
- 46:35But that's the only thing from Ford.
- 46:38Oh, okay.
- 46:40That makes sense.
- 46:40Do they sell anything else?
- 46:42I don't think the F 150 sells very well overseas either.
- 46:45Right.
- 46:46But this is, this is North America, right?
- 46:48Just American sales.
- 46:50They're all in Texas.
- 46:53Big state.
- 46:53It's a big state.
- 46:54It is a big state.
- 46:55To continue that thread on GM, it makes sense in a way, if Toyota's
- 46:59surpassing them because they're wasting time on things like A 10.
- 47:044 liter V8 as a direct response to the Dodge elephant crate engine.
- 47:10No, I've got to say here, anytime you're building a thousand horsepower
- 47:14motor, it's not a waste of time.
- 47:16I don't care who you are.
- 47:17What do you need?
- 47:18If, okay.
- 47:18Okay.
- 47:19A hundred horsepower per liter.
- 47:20Is that really that good?
- 47:22Shouldn't that thing be making like 10, 000 horsepower at 10 liters?
- 47:25I mean, I don't understand.
- 47:26There was a BMW.
- 47:27It would, but then it would blow up every 5, 000 miles.
- 47:30Well, you know, that's, that's true.
- 47:32I just, I don't understand why they would waste the time.
- 47:35Again, we've talked about this before.
- 47:37I feel as though despite the list that we reviewed earlier in the
- 47:40episode, Chevy's like late to the party on this whole EV thing, even
- 47:45worse is The irony that Dodge is like, all right, we're done parties over.
- 47:49And you know, there's always that one guy in the back going, well, my
- 47:52glass ain't empty yet, so I'm gonna hang out till I'm done drinking.
- 47:55That's what I feel.
- 47:56Chevy's doing right now with this 10 liter V8.
- 47:59I just, I don't understand.
- 48:00I mean, because nobody's buying their cars.
- 48:03So they've got to sell motors instead.
- 48:04Drag racing is still a thing.
- 48:06People still drag race and street race and everything.
- 48:08And they're putting these motors in, you know, after they blow up their
- 48:11Camaro SS motor, they're going to go and replace it with one of these.
- 48:15I suppose so.
- 48:16Make it completely undrivable.
- 48:17Not everybody wants to put a 1.
- 48:198 T in everything, Eric.
- 48:20I think that's very true.
- 48:21You know, I want to make big power out of a small displacement.
- 48:24It's like the genie from Aladdin.
- 48:27But speaking of other things, GM, what do we think?
- 48:30You know, the new Z06 came out during the winter.
- 48:32What do we think?
- 48:33The C8 I think is cool.
- 48:35The Z06 is just a more cool version of it.
- 48:38Could you tell me the difference between the two?
- 48:40Nope.
- 48:41Uh, the big wang.
- 48:42Oh, is that, oh, okay, cool.
- 48:44I got it.
- 48:44This is a Z06 wing.
- 48:46Got aerodynamic stuff.
- 48:47It's got more power.
- 48:49I don't know.
- 48:50We're going to dig into that a little bit more, but you know, as much as there was
- 48:53so much hype and, Oh, they released it early and they didn't do that on purpose.
- 48:59I feel like it fell on deaf ears.
- 49:01It was like the same thing as when Volkswagen announced the
- 49:03new Golf R during the reelection.
- 49:06And it was just like, yeah, nobody cares, dude.
- 49:07It's like yet another Golf R, you know, yet another Z06
- 49:11show us something different.
- 49:12Granted the new C8 is different enough being a mid engine Corvette.
- 49:16What I want to see though.
- 49:17Does the IMSA Corvette get an upgrade because of the advancements
- 49:21they've made with the Z06?
- 49:23How does that change the race cars in the future?
- 49:25I, I think that goes the other way.
- 49:27I think they did the development on the IMSA car and it's
- 49:31trickling down to the Z06.
- 49:33You know, that might make more sense.
- 49:34You're right.
- 49:35Speaking of things that were developed and trickling down to cars.
- 49:39Did you hear about Ford?
- 49:40They developed a retractable exhaust tips.
- 49:43I have one question.
- 49:44Why?
- 49:44Yep.
- 49:45That'd be it.
- 49:46I mean, and the answer someone would probably give you is why not?
- 49:48In the era of the Ford Lightning and EVs, why are we dealing with,
- 49:53you know, retracting exhaust tips?
- 49:55What would it do?
- 49:56It's for off road mode.
- 49:58They're probably going to put this on like the new Raptor or something to give
- 50:01it more approach angle or, Whatever the rear angle is, you retract the exhaust.
- 50:06So it's not like directly under the bumper or whatever.
- 50:08And if you slam the tail down on a rock or something like that, because jeep guys
- 50:13do that shit all the time, then you're not going to like destroy your exhaust.
- 50:17All right.
- 50:18But they're coming out with the new Bronco DR.
- 50:21Which is the V8 powered Baja monster that apparently you can
- 50:25buy based on the Ford Bronco.
- 50:27Yeah, so this is probably going to be a feature on that.
- 50:31And it's, it's, it's for, I mean, it says in the article, it's for off roading
- 50:34to help give you better clearance.
- 50:36Why not just make a shorter exhaust or with side exit or something else?
- 50:40Because then maybe a permanent shorter exhaust might not qualify or
- 50:45again, pass government regulations.
- 50:47And so all the aftermarket guys are going to do what with their stock exhaust?
- 50:51Throw it away.
- 50:52Okay, just wanted to make sure.
- 50:54When they put their Chevy crate motor, you know, to keep,
- 50:57that's how you make a fast Ford.
- 50:58You put a Chevy motor in it.
- 51:00Uh, if you listen to Bobby Parks, one of our former guests, we
- 51:04talked about the Chevy crate motor.
- 51:06Did you guys hear about the new Ford crate motor?
- 51:08That's coming out?
- 51:08Oh, no.
- 51:09Oh, it's called a new term new.
- 51:12Uh, what is it?
- 51:12Terminator?
- 51:13No, they call it the illuminator.
- 51:16It is an EV crate motor that people can buy to retrofit into
- 51:21whatever vehicle they like.
- 51:22So see, that's a step in the right direction.
- 51:2410.
- 51:254 liters.
- 51:25Of whatever that cast iron thing is, or this, which would you buy 10.
- 51:304 liters?
- 51:32I already knew that.
- 51:36Depends on how expensive this is and how compact it is.
- 51:38Cause if you can put one of these at each wheel, then you got something.
- 51:41Yeah, that's, that's true.
- 51:42That's be hotness.
- 51:43You know, Stellantis isn't the only one that's got fans doing renderings
- 51:48and things like that of vehicles and coming up with really cool concepts.
- 51:52And I tell you what I.
- 51:54And really in love with this Ford Ranger that was modded with a Mustang face.
- 52:00What do you guys think?
- 52:01I think this looks slick.
- 52:02I can dig it.
- 52:03You got to get rid of the Mustang logo or the Mustang icon.
- 52:07That's the Mach T.
- 52:08You didn't know that?
- 52:09That's the Mustang Mach T.
- 52:10It's the pickup truck.
- 52:11The Mach trash.
- 52:14I think it looks cool with the Shelby stripes.
- 52:16It looks super aggressive.
- 52:17I mean, how they did that running the flares.
- 52:19I just like all of that.
- 52:20The big wheels.
- 52:21I mean.
- 52:22Yeah, that's pretty cool.
- 52:23I can, I can dig it.
- 52:24I like it.
- 52:24I don't hate it.
- 52:25Wait, wait, you don't hate it?
- 52:27You pick up truck you don't hate?
- 52:29Tanya, think of all the mulch.
- 52:31Gosh, wow.
- 52:33So then if you don't hate that, what do you think of the 70s
- 52:36retro inspired vintage pickup electric that they came out with?
- 52:41I don't hate that because I don't hate the concept of taking the old cars and
- 52:47making them new again and electrified.
- 52:49I don't necessarily love it because I don't think it's a particularly
- 52:53good looking pickup truck to have done this with, but they have.
- 52:58I also don't think that's ever going to happen other than the one they've
- 53:01built because there's no way it would pass any safety regulations because I
- 53:06mean, it is essentially the original, but with an electric motor inside.
- 53:10And so there is thin ass door cards and, and the roof liner and all that.
- 53:15And I was just thinking from a safety aspect, how could you
- 53:18actually mass produce this?
- 53:19The thing would become huge because there's no room for the.
- 53:231800 airbags that we need in the cabin.
- 53:25Yeah, no, you're a hundred percent right.
- 53:26You know, this is right along the lines of what Hyundai did with
- 53:29the pony when they kind of brought it up to speed and did the EV.
- 53:32I think everybody's doing these heritage pieces.
- 53:35You're even starting to see some things like that now from Audi with
- 53:39Ken Block where they're, you know, You know, taking all the Audi Quattros
- 53:41and doing some stuff like that.
- 53:43I think it's cool.
- 53:44I think you're right.
- 53:44If this had been the Ford, the F 100 that was in like the expendables, Stallone's
- 53:49pickup, that would have been super cool.
- 53:51This is just some boring blocky, like whatever I hate to say.
- 53:55It's like Ford square body.
- 53:57It's like, whatever man, man, man doesn't like it anyway.
- 53:59So it's all good.
- 54:00It's a Ford.
- 54:01Oh, they didn't do it themselves.
- 54:02Any favor with like the kind of blandish color.
- 54:06Those wheels.
- 54:07Oh my God.
- 54:08I know those are the original hubcaps, but there's more news
- 54:11about Ford in this past winter.
- 54:12What's going on?
- 54:13They finally released the new F 150 lightning price.
- 54:17So if you're looking to order one of those, what's it going to cost?
- 54:21What's it going to cost?
- 54:22Well, they got four variations.
- 54:24They've got the pro that comes in starting at 39, 9, 7, 4.
- 54:29So you were asking for that sub 40,000 ev.
- 54:32Here you go.
- 54:33You've got the pro model at 39, 9 7 4, which you're forgetting
- 54:38about the 9 75 destination charge.
- 54:42Oh, and you want floor mats and you want a bedliner and
- 54:45you want wheels and headlights.
- 54:48Yeah.
- 54:48Yeah.
- 54:48I mean, actually the.
- 54:491, 695 destination charge that they listed in the article as well.
- 54:55But it is eligible for a 7, 500 federal tax credit.
- 55:00So booyah still sub 40, 000 now.
- 55:03Wait, so it's the pro the base after the dealer markup.
- 55:07So, all right, so we got the pro and then we've got the XLT at 52, 9, 7, 4.
- 55:13That's a huge jump.
- 55:14Well, you've jumped from 230 mile range to.
- 55:18230 mile range
- 55:22in the XLT SR version or 300 mile range with the XLT ER.
- 55:28Is that 80, 000 for that?
- 55:30No, no, no.
- 55:31This is all, well, you know what?
- 55:33They don't differentiate the, those SR and ER.
- 55:36Price differences.
- 55:37So I don't know.
- 55:38Uh, my guess is the, the XR.
- 55:40That's the, the lower range.
- 55:42That's the 52, nine 74 plus 1, 600.
- 55:46And then the other one, the ER is probably 60, which bridges the gap to
- 55:50the next version, which is the Lariat.
- 55:52And how much is that one?
- 55:5367, four, seven, four.
- 55:56But now we've gone to 230 miles of range or 300 miles of range, but you get
- 56:03your leather seats and your navigation.
- 56:06If you're feeling real bullish, you can get the platinum 100 grand, right?
- 56:12No boys.
- 56:13Lower 90, 000, seven, four, and you will get 280 miles of range and
- 56:20you will get a 10 year car note.
- 56:23Speaking of a hundred thousand dollar vehicles, right?
- 56:25We were out in Ohio recently And walking through the parking lot of a
- 56:29Meijer, we spotted a brand new Grand Wagoneer driving my old, you know,
- 56:34what would be considered old school by now, you know, WK2 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
- 56:38And I told my wife, I said, Hey, look, it's the new Grand Wagoneer.
- 56:41And she stopped dead in the parking lot.
- 56:43And she looked at it and she goes, and she just didn't say anything.
- 56:46And I said, what are you thinking?
- 56:48She goes, It doesn't say anything.
- 56:50And I said, you know, that's 100, 000 plus dollars.
- 56:52Right.
- 56:53And she's like, why?
- 56:55And then just turned and walked away.
- 56:57Like, she didn't understand it.
- 56:58And I'm like, that's the 1st time I've ever seen her have
- 57:01that reaction to like a car.
- 57:02Normally it's just guy.
- 57:03It's ugly.
- 57:03It's this.
- 57:04I don't like it.
- 57:04I don't like, you know, the cut of the back or whatever it might be, but she just
- 57:07stood there and like, didn't say anything.
- 57:08She goes.
- 57:09Why, but I will say it is bigger than I thought it would be.
- 57:13I mean, I know that the new Grand Cherokee is big, and I've seen those on the road,
- 57:17but the Wagoner, for some reason, looks time and a half wider just because of the
- 57:22way that nose is and the cut of the back.
- 57:25And it's just, it's big, real big.
- 57:27I have to say the the new, I've seen the Grand Cherokees.
- 57:30I think they look terrible.
- 57:31They look so misproportioned.
- 57:33It's that reverse angular nose, like an old BMW that it just doesn't look like.
- 57:38It looks like Cro Magnon.
- 57:40It's just very strange.
- 57:41Yeah, it's very strange that they're not good looking at all.
- 57:43I'm your model was definitely the last good looking grand Cherokee.
- 57:47I mean, and take that and multiply it out on that grand wagon here.
- 57:51Cause I mean, granted, they're all basically the same
- 57:52underneath, but I was just like.
- 57:54Dang, it's more grand.
- 57:55Well, and the other thing too was with that whole front with all
- 57:58those LEDs, like we talked about stuff because we saw it at night.
- 58:00She's like, is that an EV?
- 58:02And I said, no.
- 58:02And she's like a hundred grand for what?
- 58:04And I'm like, it's a Jeep.
- 58:06I don't, I don't know what to tell you, but you know, who just announced yet
- 58:09another EV, a brand nobody cares about because they're not on top anymore.
- 58:13GM.
- 58:15Yep.
- 58:15They announced the new electric Silverado again, late to the party, right?
- 58:20How long have we been talking about the lightning and talking
- 58:23about all this other kind of stuff?
- 58:24GM comes to the party and says, Oh, we're going to have an
- 58:26electric Silverado in two years.
- 58:292024.
- 58:30Great.
- 58:30Awesome.
- 58:31Hopefully it's not as bad as that hybrid suburban that came
- 58:34out with like 10 years ago.
- 58:35I was going to say it does come with a destination charge of 1695 too.
- 58:41But they swear that any resemblance to the avalanche is purely coincidental.
- 58:46You noticed that, right?
- 58:47Yeah.
- 58:48Even though it has the folding mid gate tail, like the avalanche head,
- 58:53that's the only, you know, that yes, is like the avalanche, but
- 58:56otherwise It's not the Avalanche.
- 58:58It's a coincidence.
- 58:59There was one last bit of domestic news that I wanted to cover
- 59:03because it was super clickbaity.
- 59:05I think it is the most clickbaity thing we have ever had on this show.
- 59:09And oh, by the way, folks, if I have a moment to point it out, we have
- 59:12covered well over, I believe the number was 550 articles on this show.
- 59:18So as we plow through these.
- 59:20This one came across my desk and it reads Ford beats Tesla for best
- 59:24growth performing auto stock in 2021.
- 59:27And I said, wait, what?
- 59:29So according to the article, you know, Ford stock grew 140%, this
- 59:33and that and the other thing.
- 59:34And I wanted to compare the stock prices.
- 59:366 to, I mean, yeah, the big, the big three has always been the same.
- 59:41It's like, it's a 20 stock.
- 59:43It hasn't really budged.
- 59:45Stellantis stock has changed significantly from when it was Chrysler to FCA and
- 59:49so on down the line there, they're actually doing really, really well.
- 59:52But to say that your stock is doing better than Tesla, who's sitting at like 1, 100
- 59:57a share, and you're coming in at 25 and 16 cents, yeah, good try, you know, MSNBC.
- 1:00:04Whatever.
- 1:00:05I get it.
- 1:00:06If you play with the numbers, we made a dollar more.
- 1:00:09So it's like 150%.
- 1:00:11In reality, Tesla stock is the highest grossing automotive stock on
- 1:00:16the planet at a four digit number.
- 1:00:19I mean, nobody's in that range.
- 1:00:20I mean, granted Audi and Porsche, you know, they're in
- 1:00:22the multiple hundreds of dollars.
- 1:00:24Per stock, but, you know, traded on the NASDAQ Tesla's where it's at.
- 1:00:29I guess we got to wrap out that domestic news with some domestic adjacent news
- 1:00:33by talking about JDM news and Toyota's got some cool stuff they unveiled or
- 1:00:39revealed the taco Zilla and no folks.
- 1:00:42It is not a giant burrito or taco that you would get at your stand down the street.
- 1:00:49I was thinking it was like the Oscar Meyer wiener van.
- 1:00:51When I read.
- 1:00:52I read the article title, you know, they could sell these as food trucks and to
- 1:00:59taquerias, the owners should buy these and sell food out of their taco Zilla.
- 1:01:05And they, I think it's cool.
- 1:01:07It's a, an off road version of the Tacoma with a camper on the back.
- 1:01:11It's not earth shattering or groundbreaking by anything like that.
- 1:01:15Biggest pays homage to the Toyota Chinook from 1976, the
- 1:01:19versatile convertible wagon.
- 1:01:21Oddly enough, I was out in Phoenix not too long ago.
- 1:01:24And I actually, I drove from the mid 400 to Phoenix as a matter of fact, and I saw
- 1:01:29one of those old school Toyota campers.
- 1:01:32Out on the highway because out there they don't rust and it never snows.
- 1:01:36And I was just like, I was kind of chuckling to myself going, man,
- 1:01:39that old Toyota still running, you know, it's like a Camry engine.
- 1:01:42It's the old taco, you know, like I said, I think this is cool as a throwback.
- 1:01:46I just don't know who's going to buy one.
- 1:01:48I mean, the van life market's pretty.
- 1:01:50Small, but the people in that, you know, subculture are pretty serious.
- 1:01:55So there are people that do this themselves to big, like
- 1:01:59Ford F 350s and stuff like that, which is a terrible vehicle.
- 1:02:03If they actually take it off roading, cause it's way too big to fit in those
- 1:02:06little tight places on the wilderness.
- 1:02:08This is more believable.
- 1:02:10As one of those overlanding type as a motor home slash off roader.
- 1:02:14Yeah.
- 1:02:15But my question is, you know, with COVID being where it is right now, right.
- 1:02:19It keeps kind of bouncing up and down.
- 1:02:21Has the van life RV market plateaued or is it still on the
- 1:02:25rise like it was, let's say in 2020.
- 1:02:27I had a friend that was looking for a van before COVID and he could not find one.
- 1:02:33So he waited and then after COVID, he started looking again and
- 1:02:36prices were double what they were.
- 1:02:38When he was originally looking, actually one of our members, Andrew,
- 1:02:42he just bought a van, he bought a transit to transport his ailing mother.
- 1:02:46It took him forever to find a van.
- 1:02:49He couldn't get anything he wanted.
- 1:02:50He couldn't, he got a transit.
- 1:02:51He couldn't get EcoBoost.
- 1:02:52He couldn't get all wheel drive because they just didn't have them anywhere.
- 1:02:56The vans that he would call the dealerships about, he would schedule
- 1:02:59an appointment to go look at it.
- 1:03:01And then it would be gone before he even gets a chance to get there.
- 1:03:04Essentially bought the first one that he could actually set his hands on.
- 1:03:07Wow.
- 1:03:08So the market is just terrible.
- 1:03:10It's terrible.
- 1:03:10If you're looking to buy anything, I keep saying this, there's
- 1:03:13tons of used cars to go around.
- 1:03:15So there are a million PT cruisers out there to choose from and
- 1:03:18they fit all kinds of lifestyles.
- 1:03:21Andrew Banks next car should be a PT Cruiser.
- 1:03:24Not a Neon.
- 1:03:25He needs a PT Cruiser painted like his Viper sitting next to it in the garage.
- 1:03:29Convertible, you know, so he can let that fro blow in the wind.
- 1:03:36We'll talk more about Andrew in the coming weeks for sure.
- 1:03:39We have some news for our friends on two wheels.
- 1:03:42Oh my God, two wheel news, Crichton CR700W motorcycle brings the
- 1:03:47rotary engine back into production.
- 1:03:50Why?
- 1:03:52I hate, I know there's diehard rotary people out there, but I'm with you.
- 1:03:57I keep saying it, if the Germans thought it was a good idea,
- 1:04:00they would have kept with it.
- 1:04:01They don't abandon things.
- 1:04:03I mean, just look at the 9 11.
- 1:04:04They think it's a good idea.
- 1:04:05And they keep going at it with that motor hanging over the butt.
- 1:04:08This is right up there with that jet turbine motorcycle.
- 1:04:13As far as just bad ideas.
- 1:04:15I mean, the Viper motorcycle was a bad idea too, but that's hella cool.
- 1:04:19I mean, you got a V10 between your legs.
- 1:04:20It's kind of neat.
- 1:04:22That's what she said.
- 1:04:25But on the other end of that pendulum swing, Bugatti is revealing a motorcycle?
- 1:04:30Well, Bugatti's revealing an electric two wheel apparatus.
- 1:04:35What do you mean apparatus?
- 1:04:36What is it, a medical device?
- 1:04:40Mode of transportation.
- 1:04:41It doesn't look like that Mercedes we talked about.
- 1:04:44No.
- 1:04:45So this is actually scooter, not like a moped scooter.
- 1:04:50Think razor scooter.
- 1:04:53But before you make that face, this is the best looking razor scooter.
- 1:04:58Ever.
- 1:04:59I give them props for a hot little razor scooter.
- 1:05:02Like this thing is sick looking, but it's just the fricking scooter.
- 1:05:06But it does have a sport mode.
- 1:05:08You unlock it with the key.
- 1:05:09No, just kidding.
- 1:05:10But it does have a sport mode.
- 1:05:12And how much does it cost?
- 1:05:14Yeah, that's the bigger question.
- 1:05:16It costs so much that they had to leave the price out.
- 1:05:19Oh, typical, typical.
- 1:05:21First of all, is this actually now the baby one?
- 1:05:25Because it's the electric, you know, for children.
- 1:05:28But two, I thought the coolest thing about this is that LED that
- 1:05:32puts the Ettore Bugatti logo on the ground, like that rear light.
- 1:05:38I think that's the coolest.
- 1:05:39It's got ground effects.
- 1:05:40Yo, Razor Scooter didn't have ground effects.
- 1:05:43It is pretty slick.
- 1:05:44Would I pay the 97, 000 that this probably costs?
- 1:05:50I can't write it.
- 1:05:51I don't fit.
- 1:05:54I love it.
- 1:05:54It's the answer to everything.
- 1:05:56I'm looking at the weight ratings right here and yeah, I don't.
- 1:05:59But the funny thing is it says it takes its styling cues from the Devo.
- 1:06:04Oh, stop.
- 1:06:06The band.
- 1:06:07No, the, Oh, you weren't here for that episode.
- 1:06:09We talked about this 40 run Bugatti.
- 1:06:12They only made 40 of them.
- 1:06:13It was called the Devo.
- 1:06:14It looks like it was made by Lego.
- 1:06:17Say no more.
- 1:06:19I thought it was kind of neat actually, but you know, since we're
- 1:06:21talking about oddballs, why don't we jump right into lost and found
- 1:06:26Brad, your favorite section, lost and found brought to you by the Dodge
- 1:06:31Dart best selling 2016 car of 2021.
- 1:06:36So apparently there's a Ferrari powered boat for sale right now.
- 1:06:41It's the world's only, allegedly, Ferrari powered boat.
- 1:06:46You can pick it up for a cool 15 million dollars.
- 1:06:49This thing is slick.
- 1:06:52I mean, this is handcrafted all wood speedboat built in the
- 1:06:56fifties with a Ferrari power plant.
- 1:06:57This is old school.
- 1:06:59Awesome.
- 1:07:00Old world.
- 1:07:00Awesome.
- 1:07:01I love this thing.
- 1:07:02Now.
- 1:07:03I think it's funny that this came across our desk and about a week or two later.
- 1:07:07Just happened to turn on Motor Trend and there was an episode of
- 1:07:11Phantom Works Garage, where they were building a replica of this thing.
- 1:07:14And I thought, Oh man, I mean, I guess it's targeted advertising.
- 1:07:18Who knows?
- 1:07:19It's the internet doing its thing.
- 1:07:20Skynet.
- 1:07:21I think this is cool.
- 1:07:22I think this is neat.
- 1:07:23Well, I like the fact that you can buy.
- 1:07:25A smaller version of it.
- 1:07:26If you want the, it's called the baby too.
- 1:07:30It's called the, it's not called anything, but you can get a one eighth
- 1:07:33scale model for a modest 8, 500.
- 1:07:37Oh, nevermind.
- 1:07:391, 600 destination charge.
- 1:07:42The answer is always Miata.
- 1:07:44This thing's cool though.
- 1:07:45I would, I would rock it.
- 1:07:46I don't, I probably don't fit, but I would rock it.
- 1:07:48So yes, if you're in the market for a used vehicle, you missed out on this one.
- 1:07:53You can still buy your PT Cruiser, but you can no longer buy your car of your dreams.
- 1:07:58The 2000 Chevrolet Metro.
- 1:08:01Is it a coupe or a cabriolet?
- 1:08:04It's a hatchback.
- 1:08:05Oh, it's an egg.
- 1:08:06It's an egg.
- 1:08:07It's a white egg.
- 1:08:09It's a hatchback.
- 1:08:10400 miles on it.
- 1:08:11This thing was pristine, perfect specimen really of the automobile.
- 1:08:16And it's sold for a whopping, you know, I hope you're sitting down 18, 000, 200
- 1:08:25for a geo Metro.
- 1:08:26That's 22 years old.
- 1:08:28Yes.
- 1:08:29Oh, what are people thinking?
- 1:08:31Says here, the buyer is Andrew bank.
- 1:08:37So with only 400 miles, then it qualifies to be, you know,
- 1:08:41top spot on bring a trailer.
- 1:08:43So that should easily like I should double his money by listing it immediately.
- 1:08:47Right.
- 1:08:47Yeah.
- 1:08:48Here's a question for you.
- 1:08:49What do you think is more ridiculous that this car sold for 18, 200 or
- 1:08:54that E30 sold for an astronomical amount of money back when it sold?
- 1:08:58For a quarter million bucks for that M3?
- 1:09:00Yeah.
- 1:09:01I mean, just the numbers are insane.
- 1:09:03I talk to Donovan all the time about this because, you know, he's in that
- 1:09:06market and he's always looking at stuff and we, you know, we could bounce ideas
- 1:09:09back and forth and it's just the bring a trailer stuff is nuts and I hate to call
- 1:09:12them out all the time, but it's just.
- 1:09:14I don't know.
- 1:09:14It's insane.
- 1:09:15And the conversation I had with like Chris Bright about the things they're
- 1:09:18doing over at, you know, Collector Part Exchange and stuff like that.
- 1:09:21It's just such a weird world right now with all these online marketplaces.
- 1:09:25And, you know, bring a trailer used to be the place where we'd
- 1:09:28go and salivate over cars going, Oh man, I wish I could buy that.
- 1:09:31It's actually pretty reasonably priced.
- 1:09:32Now you go there and go, what the hell are they smoking?
- 1:09:35Like, what is this?
- 1:09:36It's nutty.
- 1:09:37You know, the same is true of eBay and a lot of those other sites that they just,
- 1:09:41Suddenly get out of control, you know, when they're self managed and whatnot.
- 1:09:45But I hate the fact that bring a trailer has now become this, you
- 1:09:48know, high watermark litmus test for when you're selling a car.
- 1:09:51It's like, well, what is it?
- 1:09:52What's it worth on bring a trailer?
- 1:09:53You know, what did the last one sell for?
- 1:09:54And it's like, that's like saying, what did the last Camaro
- 1:09:57sell for a Barrett Jackson?
- 1:09:58I'm not going to pay that kind of price for your, your Camaro is not that Camaro.
- 1:10:03Exactly.
- 1:10:04Exactly.
- 1:10:05And shut up.
- 1:10:06I know what I have.
- 1:10:07No lowballs.
- 1:10:08Don't lowball me, bro.
- 1:10:09But speaking of lowball offers, we have a new, I guess,
- 1:10:13subsection of the Lost and Found.
- 1:10:14We're calling it The Andrew Bang Question.
- 1:10:16And how does that work exactly, Brent?
- 1:10:18Basically, you pick the most expensive car you can find for
- 1:10:22the cheapest price you can get it.
- 1:10:23Oh, so you sort from lowest to highest?
- 1:10:26Yes.
- 1:10:26Yes.
- 1:10:27What can we put in the, what can we put in the bank?
- 1:10:29A Lamborghini Gallardo for 35, 000.
- 1:10:34All right.
- 1:10:34That's a good deal.
- 1:10:35So what's the catch?
- 1:10:36It's been stolen a handful of times.
- 1:10:39It was a drug mule?
- 1:10:40No, I don't know.
- 1:10:41It may have been.
- 1:10:42It ran and drove when parked.
- 1:10:45You know, every great ad starts that way.
- 1:10:47It's been repainted twice.
- 1:10:49It's not the most pristine Lamborghini out there on the market.
- 1:10:53Convertible top doesn't work.
- 1:10:55Eh, it's just wind resistance anyway.
- 1:10:57We top up, you're good.
- 1:10:59It's probably a 30, 000 fix right there.
- 1:11:01You pay 35, 000 for the car and another 30, 000 to fix the convertible top.
- 1:11:05You know, I'm going to be honest with you.
- 1:11:06I don't want a convertible supercar.
- 1:11:08For whatever reason, none of them appeal to me.
- 1:11:11Whether it's the Ferraris, the Porsches, the Lamborghinis.
- 1:11:15I just, I don't want any of them.
- 1:11:16They're the only ones I fit in.
- 1:11:18Think you'd want the extra structural rigidity for when you crash it.
- 1:11:22Not you, but the use the crash them, you know,
- 1:11:29Andrew bank.
- 1:11:30If you're listening, you can go buy this car.
- 1:11:32You should sell both the Dodge Vipers that you've purchased and buy this car.
- 1:11:35Yeah, I'll pass.
- 1:11:37But more on put it in the bank.
- 1:11:39Maybe that's what we should call it.
- 1:11:41Put it in the bank next month as we look for more of these hot deals.
- 1:11:45So not just the lost and found, but what's the best, cheapest thing you can find.
- 1:11:49It's some sad news since I like to cover historical things and you
- 1:11:52guys know I've mentioned many times before about Lotus and the Lotus.
- 1:11:55Family, you know, the Chapman's and whatnot.
- 1:11:57Unfortunately, the late Colin Chapman, his wife outlived him by many, many years.
- 1:12:01Colin Chapman died in 1982.
- 1:12:04His wife, Hazel Chapman, finally died at the age of 94 here during
- 1:12:10the winter of 2021, leading into 22.
- 1:12:13You say finally, like you were hoping or expecting about to die.
- 1:12:17It's she finally did it.
- 1:12:19She finally kicked the bucket, that old bag.
- 1:12:21She finally died.
- 1:12:23Probably wrong choice of words, but the sad reality of all that
- 1:12:28is she is the legacy of Lotus.
- 1:12:30She inspired Colin.
- 1:12:32He built the first Lotus race car for her.
- 1:12:35There's a lot of stuff that goes around her story, their marriage, the company,
- 1:12:39and the one still secret that has now gone to the grave is that she's
- 1:12:43Is where does the name come from?
- 1:12:45Nobody knows that.
- 1:12:46And the family, I guess, is under oath to not disclose it.
- 1:12:50It was something very personal to Colin.
- 1:12:52And I was just kind of hoping that maybe we would find out the secret.
- 1:12:55But, you know, sad day for the automotive world because she was a huge influencer.
- 1:13:00Both of them, obviously, you know, big parts of Formula One and things like that.
- 1:13:04So our hearts go out to the Chapman family.
- 1:13:06And on that comes news of new Lotus EVs and things like that in the future.
- 1:13:11So.
- 1:13:12We'll see where the brand goes.
- 1:13:13I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon.
- 1:13:15It really has survived, you know, the trials and tribulations of, of war
- 1:13:19and economy and racing and everything.
- 1:13:22But I guess that's a great segue to talk about the future since we are kind of
- 1:13:26dabbling there with the future of Lotus.
- 1:13:28Let's talk about new random EVs and concepts.
- 1:13:30The Pininfarina Battista.
- 1:13:32Okay.
- 1:13:32So of course I'm going to like it because Pininfarina, you know,
- 1:13:34famed for styling numerous Ferraris.
- 1:13:37Over the decades.
- 1:13:38Did you look at those specs?
- 1:13:40Seems like it's gonna be pretty slow.
- 1:13:42I mean, 1900 brake horsepower.
- 1:13:44That's it.
- 1:13:45The new Dodge will have 9, 000, so it'll be okay.
- 1:13:48I think it's cool looking.
- 1:13:50The price tag is, the price tag is hefty.
- 1:13:52I mean, two and a half million dollars for this thing is what it is.
- 1:13:57It's considered a hyper EV.
- 1:13:58It is very Ferrari esque because obviously Pininfarina penned so many
- 1:14:03Ferraris and whatnot over the years.
- 1:14:05I think it's a good looking car.
- 1:14:07More than you can afford, pal.
- 1:14:09Yeah.
- 1:14:09Pininfarina.
- 1:14:10I would buy one if I was in that market.
- 1:14:13And then Nissan revealed an electric pickup truck.
- 1:14:16What?
- 1:14:17Yes, they did.
- 1:14:18And you know what?
- 1:14:18I will give them props for saying, BMW, let me show you how it's done.
- 1:14:23You want to make your grills bigger?
- 1:14:25Well, screw you.
- 1:14:26We're just going to make the whole front end a grill.
- 1:14:28That thing is heinous.
- 1:14:30It's even see through.
- 1:14:31I'd love to see the women that drive this wearing a skirt.
- 1:14:34That would be great.
- 1:14:36They all wear yoga pants now, Brad.
- 1:14:38Nobody wears skirts.
- 1:14:39True, true, true.
- 1:14:40Lululemon by stalking them.
- 1:14:42I mean, it's Athleisure wear.
- 1:14:45Excuse me.
- 1:14:47I mean, it's ugly from every angle.
- 1:14:49The color is ugly.
- 1:14:50The wheels are ugly.
- 1:14:51What?
- 1:14:51This thing is awesome.
- 1:14:52What are you talking about?
- 1:14:53It's, Oh my God.
- 1:14:54It's the definition of fugly.
- 1:14:55No, you can write words.
- 1:14:57Awesome.
- 1:14:59Put the birds in the Microsoft on the do that, but we shouldn't be allowed.
- 1:15:05Oh, the little heart emojis.
- 1:15:06Oh, I love the cap.
- 1:15:07Oh, this thing is awesome.
- 1:15:08The, uh, the cap looks like a Nissan 200 or 300, 200 SX or whatever.
- 1:15:13Two 50, two 70 S whatever.
- 1:15:15The one that's a drift car now.
- 1:15:17Oh, I know what you're talking about.
- 1:15:18Yeah.
- 1:15:18Yeah.
- 1:15:19It's like a 200 x or something like that.
- 1:15:21Yeah.
- 1:15:21That's terrible.
- 1:15:21This thing's cool looking, man.
- 1:15:22I mean, it's a concept car.
- 1:15:24All right.
- 1:15:24Like it looks like what?
- 1:15:26It is a concept.
- 1:15:27Okay.
- 1:15:27I I, the concept is awesome.
- 1:15:29I, I get it.
- 1:15:30But I want, I know that concepts are not supposed to be functional,
- 1:15:33and I understand that the grill is the entire front end of this thing.
- 1:15:37Do those headlights actually work the way they're laid out?
- 1:15:40Probably.
- 1:15:41I wanna see it to believe it.
- 1:15:44, but let's move on.
- 1:15:44It's, it's horrible.
- 1:15:46There are no headlights.
- 1:15:47It's just a Nissan.
- 1:15:49It's, well, that's my point.
- 1:15:50Like, do they actually work?
- 1:15:51No.
- 1:15:52So here's two things that I never thought I would hear in the same sentence.
- 1:15:57And I got to get your take on this, Brad, because I know you
- 1:15:59live in the Toyota Lexus camp.
- 1:16:01Hydrogen off roader.
- 1:16:03Let me say that again, hydrogen off roader.
- 1:16:07Why not?
- 1:16:07I mean, you can do an electric off roader.
- 1:16:09Apparently they're proving all of that.
- 1:16:11The thing I find more interesting is it's a Lexus side by side.
- 1:16:15I was wondering if we were going to get to that.
- 1:16:17It looks like a rebadged Can Am or any of those.
- 1:16:21I mean, we have a couple.
- 1:16:23Side by side enthusiasts in the club here.
- 1:16:26And I'd be really curious to find out what they think about
- 1:16:29the Lexus hydrogen off roader.
- 1:16:32This is another vehicle that begs the question.
- 1:16:35Why the answer is probably why not?
- 1:16:37No, thank you.
- 1:16:38I'll pass.
- 1:16:39I mean, it's Toyota doing Toyota things.
- 1:16:42This is very true.
- 1:16:43What do you do when you're the number one manufacturer?
- 1:16:46Whatever the hell you want.
- 1:16:47You throw hydrogen bombs into side by sides.
- 1:16:50I mean, they're the only ones really trying to develop
- 1:16:52hydrogen technology in cars.
- 1:16:55So for them to just extend that to this, isn't really a shocking.
- 1:16:59All right.
- 1:17:00I would want to keep this away from Daniel's square body though.
- 1:17:03A thousand percent, but let me, let me put it to you this way in light of Betty
- 1:17:07White and you know, everything that's happened in the last couple of weeks.
- 1:17:10So picture it Florida, 2022.
- 1:17:12The Lexus hydrogen golf cart.
- 1:17:15That would have made more sense to me than whatever this is.
- 1:17:21Right.
- 1:17:21And they, they wouldn't, they wouldn't even have bothered with the hydrogen.
- 1:17:24It would have just been electric.
- 1:17:25Oh, when I looked at it, it kind of looks like a funky golf cart anyway, because
- 1:17:30it's, you know, it's more upright side by side and like the sportier ones that
- 1:17:34are out there now, these UTVs and stuff that exists, I kind of made me wonder why.
- 1:17:39The big brands haven't gotten into luxury golf carts for some
- 1:17:44of these retirement communities.
- 1:17:45I think people would buy a Lexus electric or hydrogen golf cart.
- 1:17:49Wouldn't you?
- 1:17:50I think their customers all die before they take delivery because chips.
- 1:17:54Moving on, Tanya mentioned earlier she wanted to talk about Mercedes.
- 1:17:58They had unveiled that, I don't remember what it was, but it was heinous looking.
- 1:18:02The EQS, it looks like a suppository as Mark Shank said.
- 1:18:05Yeah, unfortunately, but now in their whole EQ line, because that's going
- 1:18:10to be their electric line vehicle, they've unveiled a new concept.
- 1:18:14I don't know how I feel about the way it looks.
- 1:18:16It doesn't scream Mercedes, but it screams vintage Aston or something.
- 1:18:22I agree.
- 1:18:23I agree.
- 1:18:24The interesting thing about this, which is going to be the EQXX or
- 1:18:29something like that, the vision EQXX is I guess it's concept name.
- 1:18:32It's claiming on simulation to get 620 miles on a single rage.
- 1:18:37So that would outpace everything available right now, if they could
- 1:18:41actually do this in production versus simulated on a computer.
- 1:18:46So the question is what has Mercedes unlocked?
- 1:18:50Right.
- 1:18:51We're not unlocked.
- 1:18:52And who are they getting their batteries from?
- 1:18:53Right.
- 1:18:54Cause I'm hearing a lot lately about, you know, Tesla and Panasonic
- 1:18:57partnering up, things like that.
- 1:18:58They say the drag coefficient on this thing is super low.
- 1:19:02It's like 0.
- 1:19:0317 to 0.
- 1:19:042, depending on where you read.
- 1:19:05The more I look at this thing from the different angles to your
- 1:19:08point, reminiscent of an Aston, it actually reminds me even more
- 1:19:11so of the new McLaren long tail.
- 1:19:14It just has that look to it, especially from the rear, the
- 1:19:17front from certain angles.
- 1:19:20I love it.
- 1:19:20And other angles, I sort of hate it.
- 1:19:22It's got a weird like Sauber C9 thing going on for me for the front.
- 1:19:27It looks kind of like a race car, but it's not, it's just, it's big.
- 1:19:30I think that's the issue I take with it.
- 1:19:32It's like, I want it.
- 1:19:33It's like those Mercedes from like 10 years ago where it was like, we're
- 1:19:37going to do the low roof line on a four door to try to make it look small.
- 1:19:41But in reality, it's like a limousine or my Bach or something.
- 1:19:44I'm like, I don't know the wheels.
- 1:19:46Take away from it, give me those manhole covers from like the late
- 1:19:51nineties and stuff like that.
- 1:19:52Like even something retro would look better than what's on here.
- 1:19:57I don't know.
- 1:19:57I'm not sold yet.
- 1:19:58I'm intrigued, not just from the technology standpoint, but even
- 1:20:02this design, there's so much room for improvement and knows what
- 1:20:06this would actually turn into given it's still in a concept form and we
- 1:20:10already know how concepts never end up looking like the real thing, but.
- 1:20:14Mercedes is, in fact, doing things.
- 1:20:16And you know who else is still doing things?
- 1:20:19Sony.
- 1:20:19And I hear it's not the PlayStation 5.
- 1:20:21Well, you can't find one of those, but you can find a Sony electric car.
- 1:20:24What?
- 1:20:25Well, not yet.
- 1:20:27Those are still concepts too.
- 1:20:28However, we talked about So is the PS5.
- 1:20:31We talked about a while ago, which I think it was Two years ago at CES,
- 1:20:39Sony unveiled the vision s their possible entry into electric cars.
- 1:20:45And this past year at the Consumer Electronics Show, they unveiled the
- 1:20:49vision S zero two, which is their SUV.
- 1:20:54entry if they actually ever do this, right?
- 1:20:57First things first, they put the Vision S1 in a trash compactor, right?
- 1:21:02I mean, that's what this thing looks like.
- 1:21:04It looks like they washed it.
- 1:21:06Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 1:21:08Okay.
- 1:21:09Cool.
- 1:21:09Unfortunately for me, they look better, sort of, but they
- 1:21:14look too much like Tesla's.
- 1:21:16I think the front of the Vision S1, let's call it that, looks like a Taycan.
- 1:21:21Which I'm okay with.
- 1:21:23I like the fact that it has like legit wheels, stuff like that.
- 1:21:26I mean, kind of re reviewing this car.
- 1:21:28Now looking at it, you know, side by side with the other one compared to the
- 1:21:31original, like, you know, auto show debut pictures that we saw at CES and whatnot.
- 1:21:36Here's the biggest problem I have with these EVs.
- 1:21:39They have so much power.
- 1:21:40And we talk about it, you know, many times, you know, who needs a grocery
- 1:21:43getter that goes zero to 60 in two seconds and all this Aesthetically, why
- 1:21:47do we need these heinous freaking wheels?
- 1:21:50I mean, it makes the cars look like hot garbage.
- 1:21:53The Vision S, the original one, I think it's understated.
- 1:21:56I would drive that if you told me that was a Sony, I wouldn't believe you.
- 1:22:00I would tell you, Oh, that's like a Hyundai or that's, you
- 1:22:03know, some sort of other, maybe Toyota or something like that.
- 1:22:05I just, I don't know, but this other thing it's redeeming value is not the outside.
- 1:22:10I think the interior is super cool.
- 1:22:13I'm even a fan of this.
- 1:22:14big, ridiculous Star Trek dashboard that's in it.
- 1:22:18I don't know how I feel about all these new dashboards that are nothing but
- 1:22:21screens, but the seats look like they, uh, would cradle you quite nicely.
- 1:22:26I'm not saying these screens aren't going to break.
- 1:22:28I just think aesthetically.
- 1:22:30Sony has done a good job.
- 1:22:31It looks cool.
- 1:22:33Well, and we should expect that from them.
- 1:22:34If anything, this thing should have a killer sound system in it.
- 1:22:37I agree with that.
- 1:22:38And a really good display systems, right?
- 1:22:40Because that's what they know how to do.
- 1:22:42Exactly.
- 1:22:43And I mean, the other interesting thing where he, who shall not be named Musk
- 1:22:48refuses to use technology, you know, we're still using camera technology,
- 1:22:53like literal cameras for the, you know, all the sensors and all that stuff.
- 1:22:58Sony's like, nah, we're doing LIDAR.
- 1:23:01Nice.
- 1:23:01It takes a combination of all those things, right?
- 1:23:03Well, it does, but certain folks, Musk refuses basically.
- 1:23:08Has said that he's not going to use it.
- 1:23:09And it's like, why it's more advanced than anything else.
- 1:23:12Who knows what those reasons are.
- 1:23:13I don't recall at any rate, it'll be interesting to see, you know,
- 1:23:17again, I think what we said is, you know, this is more about the
- 1:23:20technology versus the actual car, so this is a way for them to showcase
- 1:23:24to all the other auto manufacturers.
- 1:23:26This is what we bring to the table.
- 1:23:28Do you want to come by our dashboards, our sound systems, dah, dah, dah.
- 1:23:33Oh, Hey.
- 1:23:33And also our LIDAR sensor technology for autonomous driving is.
- 1:23:37And that goes back to what the guy from Rimac was saying as well, where
- 1:23:43that's part of how he got his start was licensing some of his ideas and
- 1:23:47his technology to other companies.
- 1:23:49So this is an opportunity, not for Sony to make cars, but
- 1:23:52license some of their ideas.
- 1:23:53So I agree with you there.
- 1:23:54Sell their, sell their technology.
- 1:23:56Now I will say this about the Teslas.
- 1:23:58From a business perspective, it makes a thousand percent sense to
- 1:24:02not retrofit the LIDAR into the cars.
- 1:24:05Because if you look at it from the perspective, like the big three, how
- 1:24:09much it takes to make a change on a vehicle, it'll cost them probably 200,
- 1:24:13000 to figure out how to put in one LIDAR sensor on one corner of the car.
- 1:24:19If they're trying to minimize and maximize like their profits and stuff
- 1:24:22and all the, you know, costs and profits and all that, it's going to
- 1:24:25It's not advantageous for them to go back and redesign the Model 3 right now.
- 1:24:29No, but he could have already put the LiDAR in.
- 1:24:31That's part of the point.
- 1:24:32He, like, refuses because it's not like LiDAR just came out last year.
- 1:24:35So he had opportunity, because since he's been building cars from the ground up,
- 1:24:39to have started with that technology.
- 1:24:41And he's refused so far for whatever the reasons are would need to investigate it.
- 1:24:45It actually is a great segue into we would be remiss since
- 1:24:50we're already talking about it.
- 1:24:51Tesla's raising their prices yet again.
- 1:24:53Yes, which is, you know, there's never a reason.
- 1:24:56Fine, probably supply chain chips, the moon phase climate change, who
- 1:25:02knows, but yes, the prices on all their models at the same time are increasing.
- 1:25:07Believe it's like two to four grand depending on, on the model, which is in
- 1:25:11a lot, but it's not insignificant either.
- 1:25:13Right.
- 1:25:14And it kind of pushes that model three that I thought was supposed to be this
- 1:25:17entry level, low priced vehicle to almost mid forty thousands now, which.
- 1:25:22I don't know about anybody else, but 40 plus thousand for a car
- 1:25:25is pretty fricking expensive.
- 1:25:27They're raising their prices because home depot prices went up.
- 1:25:31Damn, the cost of plywood is pretty expensive these days.
- 1:25:34It's true.
- 1:25:35It's true.
- 1:25:35Zynga.
- 1:25:36But then they're going into partnerships with companies like.
- 1:25:39That's a little bit misleading because they're not going
- 1:25:41into a partnership with Hertz.
- 1:25:43There's no contract apparently between Tesla and Hertz, but Hertz has put in
- 1:25:48orders for A hundred thousand Tesla's model threes and whys, or maybe
- 1:25:54they're all model threes, basically to have on their lots as rental cars.
- 1:25:58And you can, in fact, already rent Tesla's from Hertz facilities.
- 1:26:03I don't know which ones, but if you're flying into LAX at any time, I did
- 1:26:07check and you can reserve currently a model three, the model whys are
- 1:26:12sold out or rented out, you know, I looked at the price and at first
- 1:26:15I was like, dang, that's expensive.
- 1:26:17But then I'm like, well, is it really?
- 1:26:19So it is really expensive.
- 1:26:23So my bigger question is, do they still ask you to prepay for the fuel on return?
- 1:26:28They got to charge it up when you returned it to the airport, right?
- 1:26:31That'll be an interesting question is how much they, you know, make it a premium.
- 1:26:34If you prefill, you always end up paying a little bit more than
- 1:26:37if you got your fuel on yourself.
- 1:26:38Before you returned it.
- 1:26:39So I don't know what they'll do with the electrification, but you find yourself
- 1:26:42in LAX, believe my rental dates were, I'm sure they won't change, but I was
- 1:26:47looking sometime at the end of February for giggles for 125 and 35 cents a day.
- 1:26:52You too can rent a model three standard range Tesla.
- 1:26:57I mean, that's the level where you can rent like the upper luxury cars when
- 1:27:01you're paying, you know, 120, 150 a day.
- 1:27:04I mean, at this Hertz, you could rent the elite sports car.
- 1:27:08Which is a v4 from the picture Camaro Charger or Mustang for 133.
- 1:27:1485 a day.
- 1:27:16You could also rent the premium sports car convertible, which shows
- 1:27:21a picture of a Camaro for 145.
- 1:27:2458 a day.
- 1:27:25I think at the end of all that, I would still take the Tesla,
- 1:27:27but want a four cylinder Camaro.
- 1:27:29And I still get a Chevy Impala for 15 a day.
- 1:27:34I heard a seven.
- 1:27:35Birdspot 750 of them recently.
- 1:27:40No, that was budget.
- 1:27:42125 a day is pretty expensive.
- 1:27:44If you're on a budget, you're not going to spring for that.
- 1:27:46I mean, granted the cheapest vehicle that you could rent right now on the
- 1:27:50days I chose at LAX is an economy two or four door and they show a
- 1:27:55Chevy of AO two door in the picture.
- 1:27:58No, sorry.
- 1:27:58A Chevy spark in the picture.
- 1:28:0181 and 27 cents a day.
- 1:28:03I mean, that's LA prices.
- 1:28:05I mean, if you were in the middle of Omaha, it's like 12 a day, like Brad
- 1:28:09was saying, but you can buy a lot of gas at 125 bucks a day, you know?
- 1:28:14So in the rental car world, and you got to look at how renters use rental cars.
- 1:28:18I mean, unlike my trip from the mint to Phoenix, where I was putting on
- 1:28:22hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of miles for the person that's,
- 1:28:24you know, flying into town, buzzing around, doing meetings and whatever,
- 1:28:27is it really worth renting a Tesla?
- 1:28:29I don't know.
- 1:28:30I mean, obviously it would depend on what city you're flying into, because if they
- 1:28:33don't have a good charging network, you don't want to have to be dealing with
- 1:28:35that hassle of you're in a new city that you don't know, and you're got to run to
- 1:28:39meetings or do this, that, and the other.
- 1:28:40No crap.
- 1:28:41The dude before me left it empty.
- 1:28:43Now, I will say this.
- 1:28:44There is an upside to this.
- 1:28:45The more I think about it.
- 1:28:46The Zipcar business model would have really worked well for this in the sense
- 1:28:50that if you could drop the Tesla off at a charging station and then pick up another
- 1:28:55one somewhere else, just by maybe using like an ID card that says, Hey, I'm a
- 1:28:58Tesla subscriber or something like that.
- 1:29:01Boop, jump in the car and drive away.
- 1:29:03So you just steal someone else's car while they're in the Starbucks.
- 1:29:10Okay, this is gonna work good.
- 1:29:11But at any rate, depending on the city, if you wanted to see what the fuss is about a
- 1:29:16Tesla, but aren't ready to commit to one, you could go rent one for a couple days.
- 1:29:20That's a solid plan.
- 1:29:21Still cheaper than committing.
- 1:29:22So moving on, the Cybertruck, which was, you know, Coming soon to garages,
- 1:29:29nowhere because it can't fit apparently on their website earlier this month or
- 1:29:33the last couple of weeks has removed everything saying production 2022.
- 1:29:39Basically, it's like up in the air.
- 1:29:41I guess you can still reserve them, but.
- 1:29:43question mark when you would actually get it.
- 1:29:46So it sounds like they're delayed yet again.
- 1:29:48Who knows why?
- 1:29:49There's never a reason.
- 1:29:50Sounds like the windshield wiper blades could be a reason or lack thereof.
- 1:29:56They're going to laser beams.
- 1:29:58Apparently they're trying to do like a single wiper blade and Musk
- 1:30:02himself has said that it's troubling.
- 1:30:06Mercedes figured a single wiper blade out in the eighties on the one nineties.
- 1:30:11I mean, come on.
- 1:30:12Everyone figured wiper blades out.
- 1:30:13How many decades ago?
- 1:30:15Like seriously, just put fricking wiper blades on this thing.
- 1:30:18I don't know.
- 1:30:19I don't know.
- 1:30:19He can do all these things, but I can't put a wiper blade on.
- 1:30:22Well, the problem is this, right?
- 1:30:24If you do the basic math, I mean, we all took like some form of trigonometry
- 1:30:28or I don't know what in school.
- 1:30:30If you look at the width of the vehicle to use two blades, they would never
- 1:30:34reach the top of the windshield and they would probably come below your nose.
- 1:30:39So they would be totally ineffective.
- 1:30:40So I get why he's got to use one wiper blade.
- 1:30:43But the problem is the wiper blade is six feet long.
- 1:30:46So where do you mount it?
- 1:30:48It doesn't make any sense.
- 1:30:49Like the whole design is terrible.
- 1:30:51It is on the list of cars yet to be released that we should all be looking
- 1:30:55out for on that article we talked about at the beginning of the show.
- 1:30:58It's still listed there.
- 1:30:59Hot wheels has gone as far as to release cyber trucks.
- 1:31:02That's the only place you can buy a cyber truck right now
- 1:31:04at every Walmart and target.
- 1:31:05I seen them, I had them in my hands, but if you're dying to get one in
- 1:31:09your garage, even though it won't fit, you're going to have to wait.
- 1:31:12So you can buy my reserve spot double down on that 200 bucks.
- 1:31:17You know, I feel like they are missing an opportunity here.
- 1:31:21They just need to go to Home Depot and buy a six foot long squeegee like the window
- 1:31:26washers use and just put a little arm from the center of it straight up and it
- 1:31:30pulls it down and pushes it straight up and it pulls it down straight up, pulls it
- 1:31:34down, but you have these at gas stations.
- 1:31:37Why can't Tesla get one?
- 1:31:38If this thing wasn't shaped like N64, Star Fox, and it was more like that
- 1:31:44Mercedes EQXX we were just talking about, maybe it had a low coefficient
- 1:31:48of drag, because you can't tell me that angular design is streamlined in any way.
- 1:31:52You probably wouldn't even need a wiper blade.
- 1:31:54Like think about some of those IMSA cars where, you know, the prototypes
- 1:31:57where it's like, they're going so fast.
- 1:31:59They're so slippery.
- 1:32:00The rain just flies off the windshield.
- 1:32:02It could be the same thing.
- 1:32:03But when you're trying to drive a brick.
- 1:32:06Through the air, it's, it's not going to happen.
- 1:32:08They just need rain X.
- 1:32:09Nobody's driving that quickly to have the rain beat off and fling off.
- 1:32:14Like if you're crawling at 20 miles an hour, I don't care what your
- 1:32:17coefficient of or angle of windshield is.
- 1:32:19It doesn't work that way.
- 1:32:20We could use tear offs.
- 1:32:22Like on helmets, right?
- 1:32:23That's all they need on the cyber truck.
- 1:32:25It's just tear off.
- 1:32:26So you get out, reach around the A pillar, yeah, reach out with the A pillar.
- 1:32:30Just rip it off.
- 1:32:30How are you reaching out?
- 1:32:32You're like getting out, like put it in autopilot and you crawl out?
- 1:32:35Like that's it?
- 1:32:36No, you, you, you use a windshield arm.
- 1:32:38You, you need to use a windshield wiper arm to reach up and tear it off.
- 1:32:42Or you use normal fucking windshield wipers.
- 1:32:45You idiots.
- 1:32:45Maybe the real hold up is that laser.
- 1:32:49Technology.
- 1:32:50I think it's the lasers.
- 1:32:51The lasers are the answer.
- 1:32:52The laser is the lidar.
- 1:32:54In good news though, how this was ever a good idea.
- 1:32:57Apparently Tesla will stop allowing drivers to play video
- 1:33:01games while driving in their car.
- 1:33:04They have that gigantic touchscreen, right?
- 1:33:06And so they have passenger play.
- 1:33:08So in theory, the idea is your passenger can amuse themselves by playing.
- 1:33:13Whatever on the screen, but there's nothing built in to prevent the driver
- 1:33:17from using it while driving, which, of course, normally that stuff is turned off
- 1:33:21by the fact that the car is in motion.
- 1:33:23The car is in motion.
- 1:33:23Your passenger can't play either.
- 1:33:25So it's like, why is this even an option?
- 1:33:27Well, it's an option because you put it in self driving autonomous
- 1:33:31mode, 12, and you play 12.
- 1:33:32Pokemon go the whole time.
- 1:33:34It's amazing.
- 1:33:34No, because even according to Tesla, you're supposed to still be watching
- 1:33:38the road and maintaining your hands on the steering wheel, so you shouldn't
- 1:33:41be playing, putting the wheel.
- 1:33:42I need one hand to hold the steering wheel and one hand to throw the poker ball.
- 1:33:46I can prove this allegedly.
- 1:33:48Just gimme a Tesla.
- 1:33:49I'll prove it to you.
- 1:33:50I feel like we needed this option when we went to NCM . The radio didn't work.
- 1:33:57For like 11 hours, it was ridiculous.
- 1:33:59We had NPR and then we had nothing and then we had church and then
- 1:34:04we had nothing and it was just 12 hours of awkward, best friend ness.
- 1:34:12But that was an epic trip and we have a story to tell about it.
- 1:34:14So there you go.
- 1:34:15But you know, it lowered our expectations, didn't it?
- 1:34:18Lowered expectations,
- 1:34:22which this last one sort of straddles that line, a gentleman in Helsinki got
- 1:34:29very upset that his Tesla broke down.
- 1:34:32Something happened with the batteries or some fault.
- 1:34:35And then I guess because he did some mods on the car, it was out of
- 1:34:38warranty or out of Tesla careness.
- 1:34:42It was a 22, 000 repair bill.
- 1:34:45He didn't want to pay that.
- 1:34:47Apparently this guy's got lots of money and he decided instead of paying
- 1:34:51that, he was going to blow his car up.
- 1:34:53And so I don't know that the Finnish guys that's, I think they got a
- 1:34:58YouTube channel and they go around basically blowing stuff up there, the
- 1:35:02bomb dudes or something like that.
- 1:35:04I guess somehow I got in contact with them and they strapped 66 pounds of
- 1:35:07dynamite to this Tesla in like this.
- 1:35:10Rock quarry, and then proceeded to blow it to smithereens.
- 1:35:13And there's a video of this explosion.
- 1:35:16Top gear level of excitement right there.
- 1:35:17That's something they would have done on top gear for sure.
- 1:35:20The old, the old top gear.
- 1:35:21I mean, I don't know why you do it.
- 1:35:22I mean, I guess it was a 2013 model S so you could say it's 10 years
- 1:35:27started out, but that's kind of stupid.
- 1:35:29There's something to be said about that, right?
- 1:35:30You hear these people all the time that I drove my Tesla 400, 000
- 1:35:33miles and I had not a single issue.
- 1:35:35I mean, there's the other end of this.
- 1:35:37Swing as well.
- 1:35:37People don't maybe necessarily talk about all the time.
- 1:35:40So this is, you know, something interesting now that I think about it,
- 1:35:43to your point, 2013, it's, you know, 10 years old and it's going to cost 22
- 1:35:48grand to get that car back on the road.
- 1:35:49You know, that's the half the cost of a new model three, right?
- 1:35:53Do you cut your losses?
- 1:35:54And then what do you do with a Tesla that needs 22, 000 worth of batteries?
- 1:35:58Nobody's going to buy that as a used fixer upper.
- 1:36:01You're still on the whole 22 grand.
- 1:36:03You know, what were they going to do with the car?
- 1:36:05Take it back and recycle it?
- 1:36:06Like, is there a plan for that?
- 1:36:08So I can see this from multiple angles.
- 1:36:11So it's not totally out of the realm to say, well, screw it.
- 1:36:14We're just going to blow it up.
- 1:36:16What was the alternative?
- 1:36:17Now, granted there's the hazmat side of this, like blowing up a car.
- 1:36:20I don't condone this, especially in EV because of, you know, all the
- 1:36:23lithium and all the stuff, but still I'm kind of like, all right, well,
- 1:36:27there were worse options, I suppose.
- 1:36:28I mean, if nothing else, it's kind of interesting to see.
- 1:36:31how it exploded and all the bits and pieces, which then they had, they went
- 1:36:34and collected and put into a giant pile.
- 1:36:37The bigger question is for how long did it burn afterwards?
- 1:36:40I mentioned Top Gear a moment ago, maybe sad news or maybe a
- 1:36:45want, want, but for the folks out there that are fans of Top Gear.
- 1:36:49Clarkson Hammond and May, you may recall that in 2016, they spun up their own
- 1:36:56social media network known as drive tribe.
- 1:36:59Fortunately for us, we're huge fans here at GTM of the old top gear.
- 1:37:03And Brad was such a big fan.
- 1:37:05He actually got us in on like day two, and we were one of the
- 1:37:09earliest tribes on drive tribe, and we've been, you know, consistently
- 1:37:12posting there and things like that.
- 1:37:14You can say what DriveTribe, what's DriveTribe or I
- 1:37:16haven't gone to DriveTribe.
- 1:37:17There's not a whole heck of a lot going on there.
- 1:37:18Well, folks, sad news after five years of being in service, they are
- 1:37:23finally shutting down DriveTribe here at the end of January.
- 1:37:27So if you need to, you know, pull down your posts, grab your pictures, whatever
- 1:37:31have you, DriveTribe will be no more.
- 1:37:34It is morphing into an Instagram only, you know, kind of like schwag.
- 1:37:39type of marketing thing.
- 1:37:41So that's what it's turning into, but it is no more.
- 1:37:43So I will say this.
- 1:37:45It's also a great opportunity for folks to maybe go and check out
- 1:37:49one of our partners, Garage Riot.
- 1:37:51You know, Garage Riot is a social media platform for car enthusiasts
- 1:37:54and petrol heads and whatnot.
- 1:37:56It's a free of charge based here out of the United States, but very
- 1:38:00similar to other social media platforms that you're used to, you know, like
- 1:38:03Instagram and Facebook, et cetera, but designed for petrol heads.
- 1:38:06Buy Petrolhead.
- 1:38:07So check out garage riot.com when you get a chance.
- 1:38:10So I spent a lot of time looking at posts on Instagram and most of my feed is full
- 1:38:15of car stuff and tuners and wheels and rof formm this and you know, Centerline
- 1:38:20that, this and that and the other thing, it popped on my feed not long ago.
- 1:38:24Somebody posted that the infamous.
- 1:38:26And slightly cult classic, Ronald teddy bear wheels were making a comeback.
- 1:38:32In the used market or new?
- 1:38:35New, no price.
- 1:38:36I didn't say who, you know, if Ronal was going to make them, but there are images
- 1:38:40or renderings of what they would look like today, a deep dish wheel, which
- 1:38:44is uncommon these days with high offset wheels coming on pretty much every car,
- 1:38:48gold rivets, you know, they actually paint the caricatures of the bear in
- 1:38:52black instead of just the traditional all silver wheel that they created.
- 1:38:56You know, back in the eighties and nineties, you know, famous and all
- 1:38:59the mark three Volkswagen, all those folks, they, they love those wheels,
- 1:39:01but yeah, apparently the Ronald teddy bear might be making a comeback.
- 1:39:05So I am definitely going to give up my spot in line for those to anybody else.
- 1:39:12Those only look good on a mark three Volkswagen pretty much.
- 1:39:16And you know, there's been some other interesting wheels.
- 1:39:19I'm going to call them interesting that have come out lately.
- 1:39:21Like the new, um, I think they were rotiforms that they're
- 1:39:24square, but they're Harlequin.
- 1:39:26So they look like waffles.
- 1:39:27They look cool.
- 1:39:28I'm like this big Atlas Toreg.
- 1:39:30Harlequin thing that they did, but I'm like, I don't see the application except
- 1:39:34for this one specific bill that I don't think it would look good on my car.
- 1:39:38And I think it just looks silly.
- 1:39:39These things are cool.
- 1:39:40If you're building a specific type of style or look, but
- 1:39:43yeah, definitely not for me.
- 1:39:44It would be cool.
- 1:39:45Like in a paperweight size key chain, I go with key chains.
- 1:39:49I would memorabilia type stuff.
- 1:39:50It would be pretty slick.
- 1:39:51My daughters would love this.
- 1:39:52So other things that lowered our expectations here over the winter,
- 1:39:56there was a gentleman that broke the motorcycle cannonball record, and
- 1:40:00basically he was quoted as saying, when interviewed, you know, what did you think?
- 1:40:05He goes, I would not recommend.
- 1:40:08Well, that's just because he wants to keep his record intact.
- 1:40:11Maybe, but I mean, there's no other way to say this.
- 1:40:14It's gotta be a ball buster.
- 1:40:16To ride cross country like that nonstop on a motorcycle.
- 1:40:19I mean, not even that, I mean, cause there are some comfortable motorcycles,
- 1:40:23but to do that, it's dangerous as hell.
- 1:40:25I mean, he had an average speed of almost 87 miles an hour with
- 1:40:30stopping for fuel and everything.
- 1:40:31His average.
- 1:40:33was 87 miles an hour.
- 1:40:34That means he must have been flying.
- 1:40:36Yeah, he was booking.
- 1:40:37It took, what, 36 hours for him to do this?
- 1:40:40Yeah.
- 1:40:4035 hours and some odd minutes.
- 1:40:43I mean, he's driving through the night and doing 90, 100, 150
- 1:40:48miles an hour and some stretches.
- 1:40:49No bueno, no thank you.
- 1:40:51Yeah, no thanks either.
- 1:40:52And can you imagine the noise that motorcycle made at wide
- 1:40:55open throttle for 35 hours?
- 1:40:57That alone would drive me insane.
- 1:40:59Right, but it would also get you a hefty fine in New York.
- 1:41:04New York is cracking down on loud exhaust because they've got the, the straight
- 1:41:09pipe, people were straight piping their cars, cutting out the mufflers and cutting
- 1:41:13out the, uh, the catalytic converters.
- 1:41:15You know, and straight piping their cars to sound like gunshots and it's
- 1:41:19dangerous around the city of New York and pedestrians and all the homeowners
- 1:41:23there are so scared of these cars.
- 1:41:25It sounds so terrible.
- 1:41:26So New York is fining people for loud exhaust aftermarket exhaust thousand
- 1:41:31dollars if they don't impound your car.
- 1:41:33Well, they also said that because of lockdowns and because people being
- 1:41:36bored, there were people street racing down the streets and very
- 1:41:39loud cars, which was disruptive.
- 1:41:42Now I get.
- 1:41:43Their civil liberties get their feelings hurt and they should be allowed to
- 1:41:48have as loud a car as they want.
- 1:41:50But sometimes when you go home and you're done dealing with the BS and stupidity
- 1:41:56of people, you want to retire to your home in silence and peace and not.
- 1:42:01Have morons doing burnouts at 2 a.
- 1:42:04m.
- 1:42:05waking you up in the middle of the night.
- 1:42:06All right.
- 1:42:06But if there are more on street racing and doing burnouts at 2 a.
- 1:42:10m., their exhaust is not the problem.
- 1:42:12The problem is that they're doing burnouts and street racing at 2 in the morning.
- 1:42:16We're avoiding the fact that this is all, I'm not going to say all,
- 1:42:20it's probably 90 percent Mark 7 and Mark 8 GTI owners, right?
- 1:42:25That all sound like gunshots because do you know any other car that has
- 1:42:29that stupid feature that you can do it from idle and everything.
- 1:42:33It's like every third freaking video on TikTok is some GTI
- 1:42:39making that sound all the time.
- 1:42:41It tries to be nuts.
- 1:42:42It doesn't, we don't need that.
- 1:42:43It feels like it's all vague products to me, but you know what
- 1:42:46I'm, I'm hating on my own kind, but I think they sound like shit.
- 1:42:50I'm just going to be totally upfront about it.
- 1:42:53Speaking of stupidity on roads, if they're not making noise,
- 1:42:57What's happening on 395 lately?
- 1:42:59They're driving backwards.
- 1:43:01Wait, what?
- 1:43:02You heard that right.
- 1:43:02To avoid traffic jams, people are driving backwards.
- 1:43:05So they're reversing on 395 in D.
- 1:43:08C.
- 1:43:08and Northern Virginia.
- 1:43:10To go where?
- 1:43:11Because they missed their exit.
- 1:43:12Into another traffic jam.
- 1:43:13To go back the, you have to go back to the previous exit that they passed.
- 1:43:16So you're driving through a traffic jam, so that would imply cars in front of you.
- 1:43:23Cars beside you, cars behind you.
- 1:43:26No, they see the traffic jam ahead.
- 1:43:29So they put it in reverse, then go the wrong way.
- 1:43:33At speed, which your automatic won't let you do.
- 1:43:38Okay.
- 1:43:39So they slam on their brakes, come to a stop, quickly thrown in reverse.
- 1:43:43They get the arm over the seat, rest or a backup camera.
- 1:43:47Nobody does that anymore.
- 1:43:49Boomer back.
- 1:43:50Okay.
- 1:43:51So two hands on the wheel backup camera.
- 1:43:54Steering left and right because they don't know which way the
- 1:43:57car turns when it's in reverse, which way the steering wheel goes.
- 1:44:00So they're confused.
- 1:44:01They're slaloming to get to the exit ramp so that they can back
- 1:44:04down the wrong way on an exit ramp.
- 1:44:06So the public service announcement here is they may have changed the laws
- 1:44:10about driving on the shoulder, but it is still illegal to back up on the
- 1:44:14highway and then take an exit ramp.
- 1:44:17Oh, they're on the shoulder doing this.
- 1:44:19I thought they were in the lanes of traffic.
- 1:44:22They're in the lanes.
- 1:44:23Oh, there are the lanes?
- 1:44:24I understood it as backing up the shoulder, which is
- 1:44:26technically illegal, but whatever.
- 1:44:28Backing up anywhere is illegal, unless it's into a space or your driveway.
- 1:44:35It's illegal to do on a public road.
- 1:44:37You know what could be causing these traffic jams?
- 1:44:40Forcing people to back up on 395 and take an exit ramp?
- 1:44:43What?
- 1:44:44Florida, man.
- 1:44:45A Florida man tractor trailer driver, uh, not adhering to the clearance restrictions
- 1:44:51for the bridge he's about to drive under.
- 1:44:53That never happens.
- 1:44:55That didn't happen and a bridge didn't shift in Georgia.
- 1:45:00Well, in this particular case, it happened to be an Amazon semi
- 1:45:02truck and now explains why my package has been marked lost.
- 1:45:06So I was just trying to like, You know, pull back the top of the truck so you
- 1:45:11could access the packages quicker.
- 1:45:14Like Santa Claus, just throw them out there.
- 1:45:17He's just opening the can.
- 1:45:19Which is literally what it looks like.
- 1:45:20Now this next one made me smile and it's just so Italian.
- 1:45:25Why not?
- 1:45:26A car that has not moved in 47 years.
- 1:45:29It has earned its right to become a monument.
- 1:45:33Just like all the other piles of rock that are left randomly in places.
- 1:45:38I love the fact that this gentleman, Angelo, who is now 94 years old,
- 1:45:43parked his car in front of his house in 1974 and has never driven it since.
- 1:45:48Damn, that's awesome.
- 1:45:50You know why he's never driven it?
- 1:45:51Because it's a Lancia.
- 1:45:52It is a 62 Fulvia.
- 1:45:54It is a car that is slightly sought after, even though it is
- 1:45:56kind of boxy and utilitarian, but I just think it's hilarious.
- 1:46:00And you know what?
- 1:46:01The next time over in Italy, I'm going to go get my picture
- 1:46:03taken with this new monument.
- 1:46:05And this is a monument to petrolheads.
- 1:46:07This is awesome.
- 1:46:08So what does this monument say about petrol heads?
- 1:46:10So the fact that it hasn't moved in 47 years, Hey, it ran and drove when it
- 1:46:16was I know what I have no low balls.
- 1:46:20So there was some rumors that Brad Pitt was going to be making some sort of
- 1:46:26formula one movie and that, you know, Oh, maybe Lewis Hamilton was going to Or
- 1:46:31somehow consult on it or something like that, you know, it was all very fresh at
- 1:46:36the time, but as the weeks go by, we're getting a little bit more information.
- 1:46:39And now we're learning that apple.
- 1:46:42So, I guess this will end up on apple TV.
- 1:46:44Apple and Brad Pitt are working together on this project.
- 1:46:47Formula one kind of inspired drama.
- 1:46:50When this was first announced, I actually made the comment.
- 1:46:55What is this just going to be driven with formula one cars, which was that
- 1:46:58Stavuster saloon, hot trash movie, where they were driving Indy cars
- 1:47:03around whatever the hell city it was, which allegedly I think that movie was
- 1:47:06originally supposed to be formula one car.
- 1:47:08So we're finally making the movie we intended to make back then,
- 1:47:12but with Brad Pitt starring in it.
- 1:47:13So we know it's just going to be.
- 1:47:16No, I'm always down for a car movie, good, bad, or whatever.
- 1:47:20I mean, we've started an entire sub show of break fix where
- 1:47:25we review bad car movies.
- 1:47:27So I'm going to add this to our list when it comes out.
- 1:47:31It'll be interesting to see as this progresses and we learn more, what
- 1:47:35exactly it's going to develop into.
- 1:47:36It's not looking, I feel like it should be Tom Cruise.
- 1:47:40Wait, we already did that movie too.
- 1:47:42I feel like this is going to be Troy with helmets.
- 1:47:44That's what this is going to be.
- 1:47:46Can Eric Bana play the bad guy?
- 1:47:48At least he's a car guy.
- 1:47:49So this last one is pretty interesting.
- 1:47:53I think speaks very badly for humans because when you're goldfish.
- 1:47:59can successfully drive its fishbowl tank, and you can't even navigate to the
- 1:48:04grocery store without hitting something.
- 1:48:06I think we need to reassess ourselves.
- 1:48:10I am so confused by all of this.
- 1:48:13Scientists trained a goldfish to drive a fish operated vehicle,
- 1:48:18which was their little fishbowl on like wheels, essentially.
- 1:48:24This is Life Aquatic.
- 1:48:26When does Bill Murray pop out?
- 1:48:28But they tested this in different ways to see if it was like the fish just picked
- 1:48:32up the routine because I don't know, like where the fish looked is where it went.
- 1:48:37It's fish bowl drove apparently.
- 1:48:39And so I think they did something with like colored lights on the ground.
- 1:48:42And, and so they were trying to get the fish to go somewhere
- 1:48:45and the fish followed the route.
- 1:48:47And if they changed the route.
- 1:48:49It followed the route, it understood the directions and could do it.
- 1:48:53It wasn't just like, Oh, it did it once.
- 1:48:55And it just kept doing the same thing over again.
- 1:48:56So I can destroy this whole grossly overpaid government grant in one move.
- 1:49:03All I need to do is put a plastic castle in the middle of wherever this thing is.
- 1:49:09And suddenly you will see that goldfish just doing doughnuts.
- 1:49:13No, but what's that?
- 1:49:14Interesting, though, and fascinating to learn more about.
- 1:49:18I didn't know that a goldfish's vision was that great.
- 1:49:21And now consider the fact that it's seeing everything so bizarrely twisted
- 1:49:26through the water and then the glass bowl and the surface reflections and
- 1:49:31the curvature, but it could drive its fishbowl successfully to its destination.
- 1:49:37I mean, do you remember Drew Carey's glasses from the Drew
- 1:49:40Carey show back in the day?
- 1:49:41I mean, that's probably the equivalent, right?
- 1:49:43He's allowed to drive a car.
- 1:49:48In his defense, he has gotten laser, but oh, wow.
- 1:49:51Yeah.
- 1:49:52Anyway, these are what some scientists are doing lately, getting
- 1:49:55fish to drive their fish holes.
- 1:49:57Oh, you're tax dollars at work.
- 1:49:59And that is why COVID is still a thing.
- 1:50:04Speaking of both of those things, because we're teaching fish to drive.
- 1:50:07I mean, speaking of both of those things, your tax dollars
- 1:50:13at work and COVID being a thing.
- 1:50:15Why don't we talk about Florida main stories while we're at it?
- 1:50:19We don't have any rich people doing rich people things this time.
- 1:50:24Because that razor scooter hasn't gone into production yet.
- 1:50:29Actually, I would say the Dimitri Mazepin buys son new F1 chassis kind of qualifies
- 1:50:35for rich people doing rich people things.
- 1:50:37You know, you're right about that.
- 1:50:39You are absolutely right about that.
- 1:50:42You can beat with his own teammate.
- 1:50:45Terrible.
- 1:50:47I mean, it's about as terrible as this limousine.
- 1:50:49This record setting 100 foot long Cadillac limousine is the world's largest limo,
- 1:50:54and it is in the hands of a Florida man, and it is currently being restored.
- 1:50:58Yeah, it's bonkers.
- 1:50:59It's got a helicopter on the back.
- 1:51:02So I quickly lost interest in that when I saw that there was a Ferrari.
- 1:51:06F40 with 10 wheels.
- 1:51:09Yeah, that's way cooler.
- 1:51:11An eight seater, and I'm like, why?
- 1:51:13That's actually a Fiero, don't even go there.
- 1:51:16It's made to look like a, I mean, the frickin Ferrari symbol's like
- 1:51:18three feet long on the hood, I mean.
- 1:51:21And then there's that double wide, I don't even know what that thing
- 1:51:24is, it's like two cars conjoined twins together, and it's got like
- 1:51:27a swimming pool in the back, and.
- 1:51:29This is all stuff I would see in the kids.
- 1:51:33Part of Hershey park, like they all look like amusement park rides.
- 1:51:37I mean, they're just, they're insane.
- 1:51:39Where did these come from?
- 1:51:40Like, I'm disappointed that the article didn't explain like the
- 1:51:43history of these bizarre cars that apparently were on display somewhere
- 1:51:50because there's like, even fricking like the American dream, Jay.
- 1:51:54Orberg Star Cars, Hollywood, California.
- 1:51:57What?
- 1:51:58There's even like a model that like stands in front of them and stuff.
- 1:52:02I think my favorite though is the Pepto Pink Mercedes with the
- 1:52:06heart shaped hot tub in the trunk.
- 1:52:08That thing is legit awesome.
- 1:52:11Although I'm easily distracted and there was a Haggerty ad with a Corrado
- 1:52:14on it, so I clicked on that and I kind of moved on from this pretty quickly.
- 1:52:18Wanted to see what that was all about.
- 1:52:20So what else is going on in Florida?
- 1:52:22Moving on, so.
- 1:52:24We're in Florida again, of course.
- 1:52:25Now say you get into, I don't know, a little parking dispute.
- 1:52:29You're angry at your neighbor's parking habits.
- 1:52:32It's happened to all of us, right?
- 1:52:34Sometimes you're just like, who is this joker parking their car in
- 1:52:37front of my property, even though I don't own the street there, I
- 1:52:39don't want your car parked in front.
- 1:52:41How would you, as a normal person, as a non Floridian, handle that?
- 1:52:46I'd piss and moan and stomp my feet and do nothing about it.
- 1:52:50Nunchucks.
- 1:52:51Have you thought about a flamethrower?
- 1:52:54Damn.
- 1:52:55Is this guy Charles Bronson?
- 1:52:58He's Andre something.
- 1:53:00And he decided to get himself three counts of felony aggravated assault
- 1:53:05with a deadly weapon with intention to kill as he brandished the flames from
- 1:53:12the flame thrower at his neighbors who parked in front of his house.
- 1:53:17Was the neighbor in the vehicle at the time of the offense?
- 1:53:21Yes, unfortunately.
- 1:53:22Oh, okay.
- 1:53:23They were like teenagers getting out of the car and he like turned
- 1:53:26the flamethrower on on them.
- 1:53:28That is This is like the ultimate get off my lawn.
- 1:53:31That's some buck wild manure right there.
- 1:53:35Wow.
- 1:53:36That is, that's intense.
- 1:53:38He denies of course targeting them, but.
- 1:53:40Don't park in front of my house.
- 1:53:42The char marks on the side of the car weren't evidence
- 1:53:45enough of this, of the assault.
- 1:53:48They said they wanted to add.
- 1:53:50These Florida man stories play out like people's court.
- 1:53:53Also in Florida.
- 1:53:54So I think too many Fast and the Furious movies, too many of these,
- 1:53:57uh, what was the other one with Statham with the transporter movies?
- 1:54:01Drives the Audi out of the parking garage and all that stuff.
- 1:54:04Well, for reasons unbeknownst, somebody drove off an eight story parking garage.
- 1:54:10Yes!
- 1:54:11How did that end?
- 1:54:13You know what?
- 1:54:14He lived.
- 1:54:15Don't know why his 2015 Ford Explorer.
- 1:54:18It's always a Ford, isn't it?
- 1:54:20Apparently it was like in the middle of the afternoon and it happened
- 1:54:24to like, I don't know, it landed upside down, was caught in like a
- 1:54:28cable was also like hanging off.
- 1:54:30Maybe that helped smooth the impact.
- 1:54:32Yeah.
- 1:54:32No real explanation.
- 1:54:34I don't think drugs is the explanation probably because.
- 1:54:38Flew off a building, landed upside down, he got out of the car and ran.
- 1:54:44Two blocks.
- 1:54:45Is this the automotive equivalent of when people throw shoes on the power lines?
- 1:54:49Like you just throw your car on the power lines?
- 1:54:51Looking at this car, how the hell did he get out of it?
- 1:54:54I don't know how he survived.
- 1:54:57I love his wheel studs.
- 1:54:59They're like three inch long spikes.
- 1:55:01Boat a seer spikes.
- 1:55:03Right.
- 1:55:03I noticed those the first time.
- 1:55:05I mean, good on him that he survived.
- 1:55:07Who knows what that story is, but only in Florida.
- 1:55:09I don't think good on him.
- 1:55:10It was a failed suicide attempt.
- 1:55:12That's what that was.
- 1:55:13Oh, I hope not.
- 1:55:15Well, you wouldn't have gotten out and ran.
- 1:55:17Physics people, physics, pay attention.
- 1:55:20Well, they've, they've definitely beefed up that rollover capability of
- 1:55:24the Ford Explorers, if nothing else.
- 1:55:26Stealing cars, not a good thing, shouldn't do this, right?
- 1:55:28Everyone has their own way of doing it.
- 1:55:31I think we talked about the guys that went with a front loader, forklift,
- 1:55:35steal motorcycles or something, right?
- 1:55:38And then drove whatever it was, cross railroad tracks on it.
- 1:55:41And it's always ballsy when they're stealing them from dealerships, right?
- 1:55:44Versus parking lot or something like that.
- 1:55:47What if you went to the dealership to steal the car naked?
- 1:55:53This brings us to our sub segment of Florida Man.
- 1:55:57It's naked Florida Man.
- 1:56:00You know, he just somehow was there naked at the dealership, got into a
- 1:56:052021 Ram truck that was in a painting booth, acted out, and drove it off.
- 1:56:11I mean, if I was the sales guy and it was a Dodge Dart, I would
- 1:56:14have just given him the keys.
- 1:56:15I'm like, man, you really need this.
- 1:56:19You really need to go away.
- 1:56:21He stole it out of the paint booth.
- 1:56:24Was it his own truck?
- 1:56:26Was he stealing it back?
- 1:56:28Like that guy from New Jersey who came out running with the guns naked.
- 1:56:31There's a picture of this guy.
- 1:56:33Clothed or not clothed.
- 1:56:35To answer everybody's question.
- 1:56:37drugs.
- 1:56:38It's always Florida man, right?
- 1:56:40We give the Florida man a hard time.
- 1:56:42Then that's not fair to spread the joy a little bit here.
- 1:56:45And to be fair, how about Florida woman?
- 1:56:48And how about a Florida woman leading police on a wild golf course chase?
- 1:56:54And not in a golf cart.
- 1:56:55Oh?
- 1:56:56No, in an SUV.
- 1:56:58Looks like a Toyota 4Runner.
- 1:57:00It does look like a Toyota 4Runner.
- 1:57:01It doesn't say what it is, but it does look like a 4Runner.
- 1:57:04So something of that nature.
- 1:57:06She's doing a little off road.
- 1:57:07She looks like when Lieutenant Weigel from Reno 911 does the prostitute bit.
- 1:57:13Like, I don't, what is this outfit?
- 1:57:16Take a look at it, and that, you don't even need to talk anymore.
- 1:57:19What is she wearing?
- 1:57:21She looks drugs again and she led a police chase on a golf course in not a golf cart.
- 1:57:27This just hurts so much.
- 1:57:30Watch out Florida man, Florida woman.
- 1:57:32I will say that's the most off roading that that Toyota
- 1:57:35has done in its entire life.
- 1:57:37So there you go.
- 1:57:38Round out the women here a little bit.
- 1:57:40Texarkana or Texarkana.
- 1:57:44This woman in her Camaro, this orange Camaro with black stripes, these are
- 1:57:48important details, was stopped for, I think, something minor, so to speak.
- 1:57:55Felony forgery charge, not minor, but minor compared to how this turned out.
- 1:58:00One could argue.
- 1:58:01Relatively speaking, so she's pulled over resisting arrest.
- 1:58:04She doesn't turn her car off, which you're supposed to do when you're pulled over.
- 1:58:07She locked herself in her car, et cetera, et cetera.
- 1:58:10Cops come up, you know, get out of the car.
- 1:58:12No, no, no.
- 1:58:13The police officer being savvy as he was pulled out some spike strip, put it down.
- 1:58:18Presumably in, I don't know where in front of his cruiser.
- 1:58:21As he's going back to his car to do whatever, and then she decides she's
- 1:58:25going to make her break, reverses the Camaro into his cruiser enough, or at
- 1:58:31least wherever he put, maybe he put the spikes directly behind her car.
- 1:58:34She blows out three of the four tires on the Camaro, but
- 1:58:38this does not stop the Camaro.
- 1:58:39This does not stop whatever tires were put on this car from the factory.
- 1:58:43So props to those tires, because she proceeds to get on the highway
- 1:58:48going a hundred miles an hour.
- 1:58:50with three spike strip blown out tires and one good tire till eventually
- 1:58:56she exits the highway the car becomes disabled presumably the tires are by on
- 1:59:02star three and a gas she's on the side of the interstate when they catch up
- 1:59:08to her her foot planted as the article says Her foot planted firmly on the
- 1:59:13accelerator as the wheel spun uselessly.
- 1:59:18What did she break?
- 1:59:20All of it.
- 1:59:21So not only does she have the felony forgery charge, she also had
- 1:59:25evading arrest and resisting arrest.
- 1:59:27So good on you.
- 1:59:29All of the fun facts and figures, the super fun facts of this article, are
- 1:59:35all negated once you reach The comment section of the article, which I will not
- 1:59:40repeat any of them, except for maybe one.
- 1:59:43I mean, the one that got me though, is the guy who says I'd buy that
- 1:59:48car from salvage, fix it up and park it in front of the jail.
- 1:59:52Oh my dude.
- 1:59:55They're, they're pretty, they're pretty rough.
- 2:00:01You know, I had not looked at them.
- 2:00:02You will be in tears.
- 2:00:04And for anybody that wants to see them, they'll be in the show
- 2:00:06notes when you click on there.
- 2:00:07Well, we will end Florida man on a good note, which we normally do.
- 2:00:14You know, this is a good hearted Florida man.
- 2:00:16And I'm not saying that in any way that this is going to turn funny, but,
- 2:00:20you know, back in December or whenever it was those horrible tornadoes that.
- 2:00:24Level parts of Kentucky, this Florida man with his tractor trailer was taking
- 2:00:29donations, filling up his truck with food items and other necessities.
- 2:00:34And he was going to drive all the way up from Florida to those
- 2:00:37folks in need and deliver all those items before Christmas time.
- 2:00:41So look at that nice heartwarming.
- 2:00:43That is awesome.
- 2:00:44Round of applause for that Florida, man.
- 2:00:46Good job.
- 2:00:46Thank you.
- 2:00:47Thank you for redeeming.
- 2:00:48All the previous sins of the year, you, sir, are a saint.
- 2:00:54Well, I guess it's time for us to go behind the wall and quickly
- 2:00:58talk about motorsports news.
- 2:00:59The racing season ends for us here locally.
- 2:01:03Usually around the late October, early November timeframe, but in other parts
- 2:01:07of the world where there's lots of sand and no ocean, you know, they're still
- 2:01:10running formula one races and, you know, Dakar and all this other kinds of stuff.
- 2:01:14And so there's always little tidbits of news here and there,
- 2:01:17but as we lead into the opening.
- 2:01:19Of the next racing season, which Rolex is right around the corner, January 29th and
- 2:01:2430th weekend here in Florida yet again.
- 2:01:27So maybe some interesting Florida stories, the news from the NASCAR world is Jacques
- 2:01:33Villeneuve, former Formula One champ and IndyCar 500 champ is going to make a run.
- 2:01:39At the Daytona 500, which is coming up after Rolex.
- 2:01:44So curious to see how that turns out.
- 2:01:45I mean, he's basically kind of coming out of retirement to go run in NASCAR.
- 2:01:49I mean, yay.
- 2:01:51Cool.
- 2:01:52So let's talk a little bit about open wheel news.
- 2:01:54What's hot and what's not.
- 2:01:56An IndyCard Formula One.
- 2:01:57What's not hot is that Williams died.
- 2:02:01Frank Williams, the, uh, I guess the team founder for the Williams F1 team.
- 2:02:06He passed away at age 79.
- 2:02:08His daughter was, I think it was daughter or granddaughter, was
- 2:02:12running the team and knowing the team.
- 2:02:13And I think the Williams team sold last year.
- 2:02:16To an investment firm, Doralton capital.
- 2:02:20And they're still going to be the back marker is back marker team
- 2:02:23of all the formula one, right?
- 2:02:25Well, they're going to have some competition with Haas.
- 2:02:27I was going to say, they've been doing pretty well, but also they're
- 2:02:32losing George Russell because George Russell is going to be Lewis Hamilton's
- 2:02:36teammate for the coming season.
- 2:02:38So they've got the new.
- 2:02:40I think they're the ones with the new Chinese driver from Formula
- 2:02:432 that's, that's moving up.
- 2:02:45So who knows?
- 2:02:46They'll be battling for worst five.
- 2:02:49But there's other sad news in Formula 1.
- 2:02:51The king has been dethroned.
- 2:02:54Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:02:56Lewis Hamilton lost.
- 2:02:58He is no longer the reigning champion that title has gone to Max Verstappen
- 2:03:03due to some late lap final race heroics on his part was a complete farce.
- 2:03:09And I mean, whoever camp you're in, you're not completely happy, I guess,
- 2:03:14unless you're a Max Verstappen fan, but whatever Daniel Riccardo want to, want
- 2:03:19to let race this year, so I'm happy.
- 2:03:21Any podium.
- 2:03:22Yeah.
- 2:03:23And I mean, there's lots of memes and lots of stuff.
- 2:03:25I mean, people are even posting about, Hey, don't forget about science.
- 2:03:28You know, you had a great year despite all the drama that's going on.
- 2:03:31So I don't know, maybe I'll pay attention next year.
- 2:03:35You don't have to convince me.
- 2:03:37If you're looking to pay attention this year, coming up, you would
- 2:03:40like to know that come February, the team started unveiling their
- 2:03:43new cars for the 2022 season.
- 2:03:45So the schedule goes Aston Martin's first on February 10th, then
- 2:03:49McLaren on February 11th for our.
- 2:03:52Is the 17th and then Al Alpha Romeo is to be announced along with everybody else.
- 2:03:56Alpha, sorry, Alpine, Alpine, Haas, Mercedes, red Bull.
- 2:04:00They're all, you know, after those dates.
- 2:04:02So once I see the first one, I'm good.
- 2:04:04Right.
- 2:04:04Basically, yeah.
- 2:04:05All the cars are, because of the new regulations and everything, all the cars
- 2:04:09are, should be very close to each other.
- 2:04:10Yeah.
- 2:04:11Yeah.
- 2:04:11And I'm sure there's silliness and chicanery about all of them
- 2:04:14that, you know, ridiculous wings and all that kind of stuff.
- 2:04:17If you watch Aston, the Aston Martin, then it's going to be the
- 2:04:20exact same car as the Mercedes.
- 2:04:22Cause that's what they got in trouble for.
- 2:04:24Yeah.
- 2:04:24Right.
- 2:04:25I just wish formula one would go back to the old days where they could build their
- 2:04:29own chassis and their own bodies and do their own engines and be all over the map.
- 2:04:34I mean, I just feel like.
- 2:04:35You know, it's like, I rock, they're all in little go karts and they're
- 2:04:37all the same and, you know, change the paint color from red to Pepto to green.
- 2:04:42And you call them a different team.
- 2:04:44It's basically the NASCAR of the open wheel world.
- 2:04:48Oh, wait.
- 2:04:48Yeah.
- 2:04:49Nevermind.
- 2:04:49Cause some people were saying for a while there, you know, IndyCar
- 2:04:52was the hottest thing on TV.
- 2:04:53It the racing to watch and still have a hard time believing that.
- 2:04:57I still think IMSA is.
- 2:04:59Is the way to go.
- 2:04:59It's some of the best racing.
- 2:05:01I mean, outside of a race, like the mid 400, you know, and some of those big
- 2:05:04off-road races where you can get really close to the trucks and the drivers.
- 2:05:08IMSA is the same way.
- 2:05:09There's just this 10 foot pole between us, the fans, and the racing itself.
- 2:05:14And it feels too marketing heavy and just, it's too much of a circus.
- 2:05:19And I don't know, it's, it's kind of turned me off.
- 2:05:21I mean, granted in the WRC world, you can't get close anymore, you know, because
- 2:05:25of the deaths and the safety and all that.
- 2:05:26And it's still, they're just.
- 2:05:28Bonkers.
- 2:05:29WRC is absolutely nuts.
- 2:05:30I got to tune in because Finland and on all those big races in
- 2:05:33Sweden and whatnot are happening now here in the middle of winter.
- 2:05:36So I'm looking forward to WRC season kicking off, you know,
- 2:05:39tuning into Red Bulls coverage.
- 2:05:40They do an excellent job for those that are probably gonna work.
- 2:05:43And I watch a rally race.
- 2:05:44I've said it time and time again, Red Bull TV for free in 4k.
- 2:05:48Check it out.
- 2:05:49There is some exciting news coming for IMSA.
- 2:05:51And that would be that the pony wars kick off again in 2024.
- 2:05:57So team Corvette versus Ford.
- 2:05:59I mean, they've had it rumored for a while that with these reclassings, they're
- 2:06:03going to be able to merge GT four cars and et cetera, into the IMSA series.
- 2:06:08So it'd be cool to see Corvettes go against Mustangs.
- 2:06:11Although that's kind of like apples and chainsaws, in my opinion,
- 2:06:14should be Camaro's yeah, for Mustangs and Camaros for sure.
- 2:06:17I would love to see return of the Ford GT, but that's not on the
- 2:06:20horizon anytime soon, at least not from the news that we're seeing.
- 2:06:24So curious to see where that goes, but I feel like it's a day late and a
- 2:06:28dollar short, like all the big names are showing up for the hundredth.
- 2:06:31They're all showing up for 23 Ford.
- 2:06:34What are you waiting for?
- 2:06:35You know, put a car in GT three or, or GTLM or, or whatever.
- 2:06:38Whatever it is now and go for it.
- 2:06:40I mean, what, what are they waiting for?
- 2:06:42You know, I'm holding out hope like much like the reveal of the four of the
- 2:06:47most recent Ford GT, it was a complete surprise, nobody knew it was coming.
- 2:06:51I wouldn't be surprised if they do something like that for Lamar.
- 2:06:55Then 2023.
- 2:06:56Yeah, but this is saying 2024.
- 2:06:57That's too late.
- 2:06:58Nobody cares, right?
- 2:06:59I mean, the hundred and first is just as important as the hundredth, but you
- 2:07:03know, whatever, but let's talk about other firsts as in the 61st running of Rolex.
- 2:07:09Uh, they say it's going to be the biggest field in years.
- 2:07:11There's currently 60 cars on the roster.
- 2:07:14I mean, it's a good round number.
- 2:07:15It's better than previous years.
- 2:07:16It's been kind of want, want, I mean, I watch Rolex religiously along with little
- 2:07:20moms and the petite and things like that.
- 2:07:23It's been a bit of a bummer when, you know, you do look at the GTL
- 2:07:26unfilled, especially in Porsche's pulled out and so on and so forth,
- 2:07:29and it's just Corvette running around.
- 2:07:30So to see more cars in there is great.
- 2:07:33When I looked at the field and I'm like, LMP three, and I'm like, yeah,
- 2:07:37just so we need, you know, more cookie cutter LMP cars, but you
- 2:07:40know, I'm still going to watch it.
- 2:07:41It's still going to be entertaining.
- 2:07:43And, uh, we have some really cool things planned for that weekend.
- 2:07:46So stay tuned for more news on that.
- 2:07:48And in the virtual world, there's been some big news, a bit of a shake up there.
- 2:07:52iRacing has always been kind of off on its own, doing its own thing,
- 2:07:56you know, keeping up those Xbox 360 graphics that it's known for.
- 2:08:00And they made an announcement recently that they bought Monster Games.
- 2:08:04Teasing that they're going to make things that are more appealing
- 2:08:08to a broader market like console.
- 2:08:10So you might see things like iRacing come to your PS5 or your Xbox series
- 2:08:15X that you can't buy in stores.
- 2:08:17I'm actually really happy about this because I do think that as good as
- 2:08:22iRacing is, it needs influence from some other parties that can bring
- 2:08:27higher quality graphics and things like that to the platform, better UI.
- 2:08:31I mean, everything feels.
- 2:08:33I hate to say kind of kludgy and, and really dated, you know, when you look
- 2:08:37at it, it doesn't have that fresh look that like a Codemasters platform
- 2:08:40has or Forza or something like that.
- 2:08:43So they definitely need a facelift.
- 2:08:44The physics engine is good, but they could do with a little bit of help.
- 2:08:47So switching gears really quick to local news.
- 2:08:50Uh, as I mentioned, Rolex is coming up here the weekend of January 29th and 30th.
- 2:08:54It's the 61st running.
- 2:08:55And because of everything that's going on in the world these days, it still seems
- 2:09:00we're a little bit hot and cold on COVID.
- 2:09:03We've decided that instead of holding our traditional Rolex viewing party,
- 2:09:06which is usually hosted by Brad and his lovely wife, we're going to go back
- 2:09:10to virtual this year and we're going to make it an action packed weekend.
- 2:09:13So if you go to our website and you look at club events and click on the Rolex
- 2:09:1824 hours weekend, you'll see that we've packed in there several virtual races.
- 2:09:24Uh, we're doing awards nights and happy hours viewing parties.
- 2:09:27We're even getting together with the folks from garage riot for a
- 2:09:30soft Relaunch of their new platform.
- 2:09:33Talk about that.
- 2:09:34You get to meet Donovan and things like that.
- 2:09:35So it's a lot of fun.
- 2:09:36We had a lot of things planned for that 24 hour race.
- 2:09:38And obviously it's going to be centered around the Rolex.
- 2:09:41And so that's a lot of fun.
- 2:09:42So look for more details on that.
- 2:09:44We're still planning out the rest of the year.
- 2:09:46So look forward to events like summer bash and animal house and the cannibal
- 2:09:49run and all these kinds of things.
- 2:09:51As we look at the.
- 2:09:52Bigger schedule.
- 2:09:53And we get our information from our friends over at HPD junkie.
- 2:09:57com.
- 2:09:58So a quick HPD junkie trackside report, you know, what's
- 2:10:01coming in February, March.
- 2:10:02Well, you know, I caught up with Dave Peters recently.
- 2:10:05I spoke to him and he said right now they have over a thousand
- 2:10:08events loaded into their system.
- 2:10:10And they're looking at nearly doubling that number by the end of January.
- 2:10:14So right around Rolex weekend, the database should be fully
- 2:10:16loaded and they're capturing events from all across the world.
- 2:10:19North America.
- 2:10:20So that's the US and Canada combined.
- 2:10:22And, you know, all your favorite providers, you know, be it hooked on
- 2:10:25driving PCA, AMRA, SCCA, you know, NASA, whoever, all of that information,
- 2:10:29all in one spot, you know, search by the date, search by the location
- 2:10:33by the provider, and then figure out what your schedule looks like.
- 2:10:36So now's a great time to do that.
- 2:10:38And just know that they're loading more and more information in there.
- 2:10:40And if you're a track event provider and your schedule isn't on HPD junkie.
- 2:10:47com, reach out to Dave Peters and get your information out there because there are
- 2:10:51so many eyes looking at that site every day, every week, every month to try to
- 2:10:55plan out what our calendars look like.
- 2:10:56So always a great resource.
- 2:10:58We love working with Dave and we look forward to seeing him again
- 2:11:01this year at one of the events.
- 2:11:02We got together with him at Carolina motor sports park.
- 2:11:05So we're hoping to do that again this year.
- 2:11:06And in case you missed out, check out the other podcast episodes that aired
- 2:11:10earlier this winter, we talked all things BMW with Donovan from garage ride and
- 2:11:14James clay from Bimmer world, David L.
