- 0:00Speaker 1: The words of Mormon Chapter one. And now I Mormon,
- 0:06Speaker 1: being about to deliver up the record which I have
- 0:08Speaker 1: been making into the hands of my son Moronai. Behold,
- 0:12Speaker 1: I have witnessed almost all the destruction of my people,
- 0:16Speaker 1: the Nephites. And it is many hundred years after the
- 0:19Speaker 1: coming of Christ, that I deliver these records into the
- 0:22Speaker 1: hands of my son. And it supposeth me that he
- 0:26Speaker 1: will witness the entire destruction of my people. But may
- 0:29Speaker 1: God grant that he may survive them, that he may
- 0:32Speaker 1: write somewhat concerning them, and somewhat concerning Christ, that perhaps
- 0:37Speaker 1: some day it may profit them. And now I speak
- 0:41Speaker 1: somewhat concerning that which I have written. For after I
- 0:44Speaker 1: had made an abridgment from the plates of Nephi down
- 0:48Speaker 1: to the reign of this King Benjamin, of whom a
- 0:51Speaker 1: Malachi spake, I searched among the records which had been
- 0:54Speaker 1: delivered into my hands, and I found these plates which
- 0:58Speaker 1: contained this small acount of the prophets from Jacob down
- 1:02Speaker 1: to the reign of this King Benjamin, and also many
- 1:05Speaker 1: of the words of Nephi, and the things which are
- 1:08Speaker 1: upon these plates, pleasing me because of the prophecies of
- 1:12Speaker 1: the coming of Christ and my fathers, knowing that many
- 1:15Speaker 1: of them have been fulfilled. Yea. And I also now
- 1:19Speaker 1: that as many things as have been prophesied concerning us
- 1:23Speaker 1: down to this day have been fulfilled, and as many
- 1:26Speaker 1: as go beyond this day must surely come to pass.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Wherefore I chose these things to finish my record. Upon
- 1:34Speaker 1: them which remainder of my record, I shall take from
- 1:37Speaker 1: the plates of Nephi. And I cannot write the hundredth
- 1:41Speaker 1: part of the things of my people. But behold, I
- 1:44Speaker 1: shall take these plates which contain these prophesyings and revelations,
- 1:49Speaker 1: and put them with the remainder of my record. For
- 1:52Speaker 1: they are choice unto me, and I know they will
- 1:55Speaker 1: be choice unto my brethren. And I do this for
- 1:58Speaker 1: a wise purpose. For thus it whispereth me according to
- 2:02Speaker 1: the workings of the Spirit of the Lord which is
- 2:05Speaker 1: in me. And now I do not know all things,
- 2:08Speaker 1: but the Lord knoweth all things which are to come.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Wherefore he worketh in me to do according to his will.
- 2:16Speaker 1: And my prayer to God is concerning my brethren, that
- 2:20Speaker 1: they may once again come to the knowledge of God. Yea,
- 2:23Speaker 1: the redemption of Christ, that they may once again be
- 2:26Speaker 1: a delightsome people. And now I, Mormon, proceed to finish
- 2:31Speaker 1: out my record, which I take from the plates of Nephi,
- 2:35Speaker 1: and I make it according to the knowledge and the
- 2:37Speaker 1: understanding which God has given me. Wherefore it came to
- 2:41Speaker 1: pass that after a Malachi had delivered up these plates
- 2:45Speaker 1: into the hands of King Benjamin, he took them and
- 2:48Speaker 1: put them with the other plates which contained records which
- 2:51Speaker 1: had been handed down by the kings from generation to
- 2:55Speaker 1: generation until the days of King Benjamin. And they were
- 2:59Speaker 1: handed down King Benjamin from generation to generation until they
- 3:03Speaker 1: have fallen into my hands. And I, Mormon, pray to
- 3:08Speaker 1: God that they may be preserved from this time henceforth.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And I know that they will be preserved, for there
- 3:15Speaker 1: are great things written upon them, out of which my
- 3:18Speaker 1: people and their brethren shall be judged at the great
- 3:21Speaker 1: and last day, according to the Word of God which
- 3:24Speaker 1: is written. And now concerning this King Benjamin, he had
- 3:29Speaker 1: somewhat of contentions among his own people. And it came
- 3:33Speaker 1: to pass also that the armies of the Lamanites came
- 3:36Speaker 1: down out of the land of Nephi to battle against
- 3:40Speaker 1: his people. But behold, King Benjamin gathered together his armies,
- 3:45Speaker 1: and he did stand against them, and he did fight
- 3:48Speaker 1: with the strength of his own arm with the sword
- 3:51Speaker 1: of Laban, and in the strength of the Lord. They
- 3:55Speaker 1: did contend against their enemies until they had slain many
- 3:59Speaker 1: thousands of the laymen. And it came to pass that
- 4:02Speaker 1: they did contend against the Lamanites until they had driven
- 4:06Speaker 1: them out of all the lands of their inheritance. And
- 4:09Speaker 1: it came to pass that after there had been false christs,
- 4:13Speaker 1: and their mouths had been shut, and they punished according
- 4:17Speaker 1: to their crimes. And after there had been false prophets
- 4:21Speaker 1: and false preachers and teachers among the people, and all
- 4:25Speaker 1: these having been punished according to their crimes, and after
- 4:28Speaker 1: there having been much contention and many dissensions away unto
- 4:33Speaker 1: the Lamanites. Behold, it came to pass that King Benjamin,
- 4:37Speaker 1: with the assistance of the holy prophets who were among
- 4:40Speaker 1: his people. For behold, King Benjamin was a holy man,
- 4:45Speaker 1: and he did brain over his people in righteousness. And
- 4:48Speaker 1: there were many holy men in the land, and they
- 4:51Speaker 1: did speak the word of God with power and with authority,
- 4:55Speaker 1: and they did use much sharpness because of the stiff
- 4:58Speaker 1: neckness of the people. Wherefore, with the help of these,
- 5:03Speaker 1: King Benjamin, by laboring with all the might of his
- 5:06Speaker 1: body and the faculty of his whole soul, and also
- 5:10Speaker 1: the prophets, did once more establish peace in the land
- 5:14Speaker 1: the Book of Mosiah chapter one. And now there was
- 5:18Speaker 1: no more contention in all the land of Zarahemla among
- 5:22Speaker 1: all the people who belonged to King Benjamin, so that
- 5:26Speaker 1: King Benjamin had continual peace all the remainder of his days.
- 5:31Speaker 1: And he came to pass that he had three sons,
- 5:34Speaker 1: and he called their names Mosiah, Antilorum, and Heliman. And
- 5:39Speaker 1: he caused that they should be taught in all the
- 5:41Speaker 1: language of his fathers, that thereby they might become men
- 5:45Speaker 1: of understanding, and that they might know concerning the prophecies
- 5:49Speaker 1: which had been spoken by the mouths of their fathers,
- 5:52Speaker 1: which were delivered them by the hand of the Lord.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And he also taught them concerning the records which were
- 5:59Speaker 1: engraven on the plates of brass. Sang, my sons, I
- 6:03Speaker 1: would that ye should remember that were it not for
- 6:06Speaker 1: these plates which contain these records and these commandments, we
- 6:11Speaker 1: must have suffered in ignorance even at this present time,
- 6:15Speaker 1: not knowing the mysteries of God. For it were not
- 6:18Speaker 1: possible that our father Lehi could have remembered all these
- 6:22Speaker 1: things to have taught them to his children, except it
- 6:25Speaker 1: were for the help of these plates, For he having
- 6:28Speaker 1: been taught in the language of the Egyptians, therefore he
- 6:31Speaker 1: could read these engravings and teach them to his children,
- 6:35Speaker 1: that thereby they could teach them to their children, and
- 6:39Speaker 1: so fulfilling the commandments of God even down to this
- 6:42Speaker 1: present time. I say unto you, my sons, were it
- 6:46Speaker 1: not for these things, which have been kept and preserved
- 6:49Speaker 1: by the hand of God, that we might read and
- 6:52Speaker 1: understand of His mysteries and have His commandments always before
- 6:56Speaker 1: our eyes, that even our fathers would have dwindled in unbelief,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and we should have been like unto our brethren, the Lamanites,
- 7:04Speaker 1: who know nothing concerning these things, or even do not
- 7:08Speaker 1: believe them when they are taught them, because of the
- 7:10Speaker 1: traditions of their fathers, which are not correct. Oh, my sons,
- 7:16Speaker 1: I would that ye should remember that these sangs are true,
- 7:19Speaker 1: and also that these records are true. And behold also
- 7:23Speaker 1: the plates of Nephi, which contain the records and the
- 7:26Speaker 1: sangs of our fathers from the time they left Jerusalem
- 7:30Speaker 1: until now, and they are true, and we can know
- 7:34Speaker 1: of their surety because we have them before our eyes.
- 7:38Speaker 1: And now, my sons, I would that ye should remember
- 7:41Speaker 1: to search them diligently, that ye may profit thereby. And
- 7:45Speaker 1: I would that ye should keep the commandments of God,
- 7:48Speaker 1: that ye may prosper in the land according to the
- 7:51Speaker 1: promises which the Lord made unto our fathers. And many
- 7:55Speaker 1: more things did King Benjamin teach his sons which were
- 7:58Speaker 1: not written in this book. And it came to pass
- 8:01Speaker 1: that after King Benjamin had made an end of teaching
- 8:04Speaker 1: his sons, that he waxed old, and he saw that
- 8:08Speaker 1: he must very soon go the way of all the earth.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Therefore he thought it expedient that he should confer the
- 8:15Speaker 1: kingdom upon one of his sons. Therefore he had Mossiah
- 8:19Speaker 1: brought before him, and these are the words which he
- 8:22Speaker 1: spake unto him. Sang, my son, I would that ye
- 8:26Speaker 1: should make a proclamation throughout all this land, among all
- 8:30Speaker 1: this people, or the people of Zarahemla, and the people
- 8:34Speaker 1: of Mossiah who dwell in the land, that thereby they
- 8:37Speaker 1: may be gathered together. For on the morrow I shall
- 8:40Speaker 1: proclaim unto this my people, out of mine own mouth,
- 8:45Speaker 1: that thou art a king and a ruler over this
- 8:48Speaker 1: people whom the Lord, our God hath given us. And moreover,
- 8:52Speaker 1: I shall give this people a name, that thereby they
- 8:55Speaker 1: may be distinguished above all the people which the Lord
- 8:59Speaker 1: God hath brought out out of the land of Jerusalem.
- 9:02Speaker 1: And this I do because they have been a diligent
- 9:05Speaker 1: people in keeping the commandments of the Lord. And I
- 9:08Speaker 1: give unto them a name that never shall be blotted out,
- 9:12Speaker 1: except it be through transgression. Yea. And moreover, I say
- 9:16Speaker 1: unto you that if this highly favored people of the
- 9:19Speaker 1: Lord should fall unto transgression and become a wicked and
- 9:24Speaker 1: an adulterous people, that the Lord will deliver them up,
- 9:27Speaker 1: that thereby they become weak like unto their brethren, and
- 9:31Speaker 1: He will no more preserve them by his matchless and
- 9:34Speaker 1: marvelous power, as he has hitherto preserved our fathers. For
- 9:39Speaker 1: I say unto you that if he had not extended
- 9:42Speaker 1: his arm in the preservation of our fathers, they must
- 9:45Speaker 1: have fallen into the hands of the Lamanites and become
- 9:49Speaker 1: victims to their hatred. And it came to pass that
- 9:52Speaker 1: after King Benjamin had made an end of these sangs
- 9:55Speaker 1: to his son, that he gave him charge concerning all
- 9:58Speaker 1: the affairs of the kingdom. And moreover, he also gave
- 10:02Speaker 1: him charge concerning the records which were engraven on the
- 10:05Speaker 1: plates of brass, and also the plates of Nephi, and
- 10:09Speaker 1: also the sword of Laban and the ball or director,
- 10:13Speaker 1: which led our fathers through the wilderness, which was prepared
- 10:17Speaker 1: by the hand of the Lord, that thereby they might
- 10:20Speaker 1: be led, every one according to the heed and diligence
- 10:24Speaker 1: which they gave unto him. Therefore, as they were unfaithful,
- 10:28Speaker 1: they did not prosper nor progress in their journey, but
- 10:32Speaker 1: were driven back and incurred the displeasure of God upon them.
- 10:36Speaker 1: And therefore they were smitten with famine and sore afflictions
- 10:40Speaker 1: to stir them up in remembrance of their duty. And
- 10:43Speaker 1: now it came to pass that Mosiah went and did
- 10:47Speaker 1: as his father had commanded him, and proclaimed unto all
- 10:50Speaker 1: the people who were in the land of Sarahamla, that
- 10:53Speaker 1: thereby they might gather themselves together to go up to
- 10:57Speaker 1: the temple to hear the words which his father should
- 10:59Speaker 1: speak unto them. Chapter two. And it came to pass that,
- 11:04Speaker 1: after Messiah had done as his father had commanded him,
- 11:08Speaker 1: and had made a proclamation throughout all the land, that
- 11:11Speaker 1: the people gathered themselves together throughout all the land, that
- 11:15Speaker 1: they might go up to the temple to hear the
- 11:18Speaker 1: words which King Benjamin should speak unto them. And there
- 11:21Speaker 1: were a great number, even so many that they did
- 11:24Speaker 1: not number them, for they had multiplied exceedingly and waxed
- 11:28Speaker 1: great in the land. And they also took of the
- 11:31Speaker 1: firstlings of their flocks, that they might offer sacrifice and
- 11:35Speaker 1: burnt offerings according to the law of Moses, and also
- 11:39Speaker 1: that they might give thanks to the Lord their God,
- 11:42Speaker 1: who had brought them out of the land of Jerusalem,
- 11:45Speaker 1: and who had delivered them out of the hands of
- 11:47Speaker 1: their enemies, and had appointed just men to be their teachers,
- 11:51Speaker 1: and also a just man to be their king, who
- 11:54Speaker 1: had established peace in the land of Sarahemla, and who
- 11:58Speaker 1: had taught them to keep the commandments of God, that
- 12:01Speaker 1: they might rejoice and be filled with love towards God
- 12:05Speaker 1: and all men. And it came to pass that when
- 12:08Speaker 1: they came up to the temple, they pitched their tents
- 12:11Speaker 1: round about every man according to his family, consisting of
- 12:15Speaker 1: his wife, and his sons, and his daughters, and their
- 12:19Speaker 1: sons and their daughters, from the eldest down to the youngest,
- 12:23Speaker 1: every family being separate one from another. And they pitched
- 12:27Speaker 1: their tents round about the temple, every man having his
- 12:31Speaker 1: tent with the door thereof towards the temple, that thereby
- 12:34Speaker 1: they might remain in their tents and hear the words
- 12:37Speaker 1: which King Benjamin should speak unto them. For the multitude
- 12:41Speaker 1: being so great that King Benjamin could not teach them
- 12:44Speaker 1: all within the walls of the temple. Therefore he caused
- 12:48Speaker 1: a tower to be erected, that thereby his people might
- 12:51Speaker 1: hear the words which he should speak unto them. And
- 12:54Speaker 1: it came to pass that he began to speak to
- 12:57Speaker 1: his people from the tower, and they could not hear
- 13:00Speaker 1: his words because of the greatness of the multitude. Therefore
- 13:04Speaker 1: he caused that the words which he spake should be
- 13:06Speaker 1: written and sent forth among those that were not under
- 13:10Speaker 1: the sound of his voice, that they might also receive
- 13:13Speaker 1: his words. And these are the words which ye spake
- 13:17Speaker 1: and cause to be written, sang my brethren, all ye
- 13:21Speaker 1: that have assembled yourselves together, you that can hear my
- 13:25Speaker 1: words which I shall speak unto you this day. For
- 13:28Speaker 1: I have not commanded you to come up hither to
- 13:31Speaker 1: trifle with the words which I shall speak, but that
- 13:34Speaker 1: you should hearken unto me, and open your ears that
- 13:37Speaker 1: ye may hear, and your hearts that ye may understand,
- 13:41Speaker 1: and your minds that the mysteries of God may be
- 13:44Speaker 1: unfolded to your view. I have not commanded you to
- 13:47Speaker 1: come up hither that ye should fear me, or that
- 13:50Speaker 1: ye should think that I, of myself am more than
- 13:53Speaker 1: a mortal man. But I am like as yourselves, subject
- 13:57Speaker 1: to all manner of infirmities in body and mind. Yet
- 14:01Speaker 1: I have been chosen by this people and consecrated by
- 14:04Speaker 1: my father, and was suffered by the hand of the Lord,
- 14:08Speaker 1: that I should be a ruler and a king over
- 14:11Speaker 1: this people, and have been kept and preserved by his
- 14:14Speaker 1: matchless power to serve you with all the might, mind,
- 14:18Speaker 1: and strength which the Lord hath granted unto me. I
- 14:22Speaker 1: say unto you that as I have been suffered to
- 14:24Speaker 1: spend my days in your service even up to this time,
- 14:28Speaker 1: and have not sought gold, nor silver, nor any manner
- 14:31Speaker 1: of riches of you, neither have I suffered that ye
- 14:34Speaker 1: should be confined in dungeons, nor that ye should make
- 14:38Speaker 1: slaves one of another, nor that ye should murder or plunder,
- 14:42Speaker 1: or steal, or commit adultery. Nor even have I suffered
- 14:46Speaker 1: that ye should commit any manner of wickedness. And have
- 14:49Speaker 1: taught you that ye should keep the commandments of the
- 14:52Speaker 1: Lord in all things which he hath commanded you. And
- 14:56Speaker 1: even I myself have labored with mine own hands that
- 15:00Speaker 1: I might serve you, and that ye should not be
- 15:02Speaker 1: laden with taxes, and that there should nothing come upon
- 15:06Speaker 1: you which was grievous to be borne. And of all
- 15:09Speaker 1: these things which I have spoken, ye yourselves are witnesses
- 15:13Speaker 1: this day. Yet, my brethren, I have not done these
- 15:17Speaker 1: things that I might boast. Neither do I tell these
- 15:20Speaker 1: things that thereby I might accuse you. But I tell
- 15:24Speaker 1: you these things that ye may know that I can
- 15:27Speaker 1: answer a clear conscience before God. This day. Behold, I
- 15:31Speaker 1: say unto you that because I said unto you that
- 15:34Speaker 1: I had spent my days in your service, I do
- 15:37Speaker 1: not desire to boast, for I have only been in
- 15:40Speaker 1: the service of God. And behold, I tell you these
- 15:44Speaker 1: things that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn
- 15:47Speaker 1: that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings,
- 15:51Speaker 1: ye are only in the service of your God. Behold,
- 15:55Speaker 1: ye have called me your king. And if I, whom
- 15:58Speaker 1: ye call your king, do labor to serve you, then
- 16:02Speaker 1: ought not ye to labor to serve one another. And
- 16:06Speaker 1: behold also, if I, whom ye call your king, who
- 16:10Speaker 1: has spent his days in your service, and yet has
- 16:13Speaker 1: been in the service of God, do merit any thanks
- 16:16Speaker 1: from you, Oh, how you ought to thank your heavenly King.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I say unto you, my brethren, that if ye should
- 16:23Speaker 1: render all the thanks in praise which your whole soul
- 16:27Speaker 1: has power to possess, to that God who has created you,
- 16:31Speaker 1: and has kept and preserved you, and has caused that
- 16:34Speaker 1: ye should rejoice, and has granted that ye should live
- 16:37Speaker 1: in peace one with another, I say unto you that
- 16:40Speaker 1: if ye should serve Him who has created you from
- 16:43Speaker 1: the beginning and is preserving you from day to day
- 16:46Speaker 1: by lending you breath, that ye may live and move
- 16:50Speaker 1: and do according to your own will, and even supporting
- 16:53Speaker 1: you from one moment to another, I say, if ye
- 16:56Speaker 1: should serve him with all your whole souls, yet ye
- 17:00Speaker 1: ye would be unprofitable servants. And behold, all that he
- 17:04Speaker 1: requires of you is to keep his commandments. And he
- 17:07Speaker 1: has promised you that if ye would keep his commandments,
- 17:10Speaker 1: ye should prosper in the land. And he never doth
- 17:13Speaker 1: vary from that which he hath said. Therefore, if ye
- 17:16Speaker 1: do keep his commandments, he doth bless you and prosper you.
- 17:21Speaker 1: And now, in the first place, he hath created you
- 17:24Speaker 1: and granted unto you your lives, for which ye are
- 17:28Speaker 1: indebted unto him. And secondly he doth require that ye
- 17:32Speaker 1: should do as he hath commanded you, for which if
- 17:35Speaker 1: ye do, he doth immediately bless you. And therefore he
- 17:39Speaker 1: hath paid you, and ye are still indebted unto him,
- 17:42Speaker 1: and are and will be forever and ever. Therefore of
- 17:46Speaker 1: what have ye to boast? And now I ask, can
- 17:50Speaker 1: ye say aught of yourselves? I answer you, nay, ye
- 17:55Speaker 1: cannot say that ye are even as much as the
- 17:58Speaker 1: dust of the earth. Ye that ye were created of
- 18:01Speaker 1: the dust of the earth. But behold, it belongeth to
- 18:04Speaker 1: him who created you. And I, even I, whom ye
- 18:08Speaker 1: call your king, am no better than ye yourselves are,
- 18:12Speaker 1: For I am also of the dust. And ye behold
- 18:15Speaker 1: that I am old, and am about to yield up
- 18:18Speaker 1: this mortal frame to its mother Earth. Therefore, as I
- 18:22Speaker 1: set unto you that I had served you walking with
- 18:25Speaker 1: a clear conscience before God. Even so I at this
- 18:29Speaker 1: time have caused that ye should assemble yourselves together, that
- 18:33Speaker 1: I might be found blameless, and that your blood should
- 18:36Speaker 1: not come upon me when I shall stand to be
- 18:39Speaker 1: judged of God of the things whereof he hath commanded
- 18:42Speaker 1: me concerning you, I say unto you that I have
- 18:46Speaker 1: caused that ye should assemble yourselves together, that I might
- 18:49Speaker 1: rid my garments of your blood at this period of
- 18:53Speaker 1: time when I am about to go down to my grave,
- 18:56Speaker 1: that I might go down in peace, and my immortal
- 18:59Speaker 1: spirit may join the choirs above and singing the praises
- 19:03Speaker 1: of a just God. And moreover, I say unto you
- 19:07Speaker 1: that I have caused that ye should assemble yourselves together,
- 19:11Speaker 1: that I might declare unto you that I can no
- 19:13Speaker 1: longer be your teacher nor your king. For even at
- 19:17Speaker 1: this time my whole frame doth tremble exceedingly while attempting
- 19:22Speaker 1: to speak unto you. But the Lord God doth support me,
- 19:26Speaker 1: and hath suffered me that I should speak unto you,
- 19:29Speaker 1: and hath commanded me that I should declare unto you
- 19:32Speaker 1: this day that my son Mosiah is a king and
- 19:35Speaker 1: a ruler over you. And now, my brethren, I would
- 19:39Speaker 1: that ye should do as ye have hitherto done, as
- 19:42Speaker 1: ye have kept my commandments, and also the commandments of
- 19:46Speaker 1: my father, and have prospered and have been kept from
- 19:49Speaker 1: falling into the hands of your enemies. Even so, if
- 19:53Speaker 1: ye shall keep the commandments of my son, or the
- 19:56Speaker 1: commandments of God, which shall be delivered unto you by him,
- 20:00Speaker 1: ye shall prosper in the land, and your enemy shall
- 20:03Speaker 1: have no power over you. But o, my people, beware
- 20:08Speaker 1: lest there shall arise contentions among you. And ye list
- 20:12Speaker 1: to obey the evil spirit which was spoken of by
- 20:15Speaker 1: my father Mossiah. For behold, there is a woe pronounced
- 20:20Speaker 1: upon him who listeth to obey that spirit. For if
- 20:23Speaker 1: he listeth to obey him, and remaineth and dieth in
- 20:27Speaker 1: his sins, the same drinketh damnation to his own soul,
- 20:32Speaker 1: for he receiveth for his wages and everlasting punishment, having
- 20:37Speaker 1: transgressed the law of God contrary to his own knowledge.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I say unto you that there are not any among you,
- 20:44Speaker 1: except it be your little children that have not been
- 20:47Speaker 1: taught concerning these things. But what knoweth that ye are
- 20:51Speaker 1: eternally indebted to your heavenly Father to render to him
- 20:55Speaker 1: all that ye have and are, and also have been
- 20:58Speaker 1: taught concerning the records which contained the prophecies which have
- 21:02Speaker 1: been spoken by the Holy prophets even down to the
- 21:05Speaker 1: time of our father Lehi left Jerusalem, and also all
- 21:10Speaker 1: that has been spoken by our fathers until now. And
- 21:13Speaker 1: behold also they spake that which was commended them of
- 21:17Speaker 1: the Lord. Therefore they are just and true. And now
- 21:22Speaker 1: I say unto you, my brethren, that after ye have
- 21:26Speaker 1: known and have been taught all these things, if ye
- 21:29Speaker 1: should transgress and go contrary to that which has been spoken,
- 21:32Speaker 1: that ye do withdraw yourselves from the Spirit of the Lord,
- 21:36Speaker 1: that it may have no place in you to guide
- 21:39Speaker 1: you in wisdom's paths, that ye may be blessed, prospered,
- 21:43Speaker 1: and preserved. I say unto you that the man that
- 21:47Speaker 1: doeth this, the same cometh out in open rebellion against God.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Therefore he listeth to obey the evil spirit and becometh
- 21:55Speaker 1: an enemy to all righteousness. Therefore the Lord has no
- 21:59Speaker 1: place in him, for he dwelleth not in unholy temples. Therefore,
- 22:05Speaker 1: if that man repenteth not and remaineth and dieth an
- 22:08Speaker 1: enemy to God, the demands of divine justice do awaken
- 22:13Speaker 1: his immortal soul to a lively sense of his own guilt,
- 22:17Speaker 1: which doth cause him to shrink from the presence of
- 22:19Speaker 1: the Lord, and doth fill his breast with guilt and
- 22:23Speaker 1: pain and anguish, which is like an unquenchable fire, whose
- 22:27Speaker 1: flamecendeth up forever and ever. And now I say unto
- 22:32Speaker 1: you that mercy hath no claim on that man. Therefore
- 22:36Speaker 1: his final doom is to endure a never ending torment.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Oh all, ye old men, and also ye young men,
- 22:45Speaker 1: and you little children, who can understand my words, For
- 22:49Speaker 1: I have spoken plainly unto you that ye might understand.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I pray that ye should awake to a remembrance of
- 22:55Speaker 1: the awful situation of those that have fallen into transgression.
- 22:59Speaker 1: And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on
- 23:03Speaker 1: the blessed and happy state of those that keep the
- 23:06Speaker 1: commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things,
- 23:11Speaker 1: both temporal and spiritual. And if they hold out faithful
- 23:15Speaker 1: to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby
- 23:18Speaker 1: they may dwell with God in a state of never
- 23:21Speaker 1: ending happiness. Oh, remember, remember that these things are true,
- 23:27Speaker 1: for the Lord God hath spoken it. Chapter three. And again,
- 23:32Speaker 1: my brethren, I would call your attention, for I have
- 23:35Speaker 1: somewhat more to speak unto you. For behold, I have
- 23:39Speaker 1: things to tell you concerning that which is to come.
- 23:42Speaker 1: And the things which I shall tell you are made
- 23:45Speaker 1: known unto me by an angel from God. And he said,
- 23:48Speaker 1: unto me, awake, and I awoke, and behold he stood
- 23:53Speaker 1: before me, and he said, unto me, awake and hear
- 23:57Speaker 1: the words which I shall tell THEE. For behold, I
- 24:00Speaker 1: am come to declare unto you the glad tidings of
- 24:04Speaker 1: great joy. For the Lord hath heard thy prayers, and
- 24:08Speaker 1: hath judged of thy righteousness, and hath sent me to
- 24:12Speaker 1: declare unto THEE, that thou mayest rejoice, and that thou
- 24:17Speaker 1: mayest declare unto thy people that they may also be
- 24:20Speaker 1: filled with joy. For behold, the time cometh and is
- 24:24Speaker 1: not far distant, that with power the Lord Omnipotent, who reigneth,
- 24:30Speaker 1: who was and is from all eternity, to all eternity,
- 24:34Speaker 1: shall come down from heaven among the children of men,
- 24:37Speaker 1: and shall dwell in a tabernacle of clay, and shall
- 24:40Speaker 1: go forth amongst men, working mighty miracles, such as healing
- 24:45Speaker 1: the sick, raising the dead, causing the lame to walk,
- 24:49Speaker 1: the blind to receive their sight, and the death to hear,
- 24:53Speaker 1: and curing all manner of diseases. And he shall cast
- 24:57Speaker 1: out devils or the evil spirits which who dwell in
- 25:00Speaker 1: the hearts of the children of men. And lo, he
- 25:03Speaker 1: shall suffer temptations and pain of body, hunger, thirst, and fatigue,
- 25:10Speaker 1: even more than man can suffer, except it be unto death.
- 25:13Speaker 1: For behold, blood cometh from every pore. So great shall
- 25:18Speaker 1: be his anguish for the wickedness and the abominations of
- 25:21Speaker 1: his people. And he shall be called Jesus Christ, the
- 25:26Speaker 1: Son of God, the Father of heaven and Earth, the
- 25:29Speaker 1: creator of all things from the beginning, and his mother
- 25:33Speaker 1: shall be called Mary. And Lo, he cometh unto his
- 25:37Speaker 1: own that salvation might come unto the children of men,
- 25:41Speaker 1: even through faith on his name. And even after all this,
- 25:45Speaker 1: they shall consider him a man, and say that he
- 25:48Speaker 1: hath a devil, and shall scourge him, and shall crucify him,
- 25:53Speaker 1: and he shall rise the third day from the dead.
- 25:56Speaker 1: And behold, he standeth to judge the world. And behold,
- 26:00Speaker 1: all these things are done that a righteous judgment might
- 26:03Speaker 1: come upon the children of men. For behold, and also
- 26:07Speaker 1: his blood atoneth for the sins of those who have
- 26:10Speaker 1: fallen by the transgression of Adam, who have died not
- 26:14Speaker 1: knowing the will of God concerning them, or who hath
- 26:17Speaker 1: ignorantly sinned. But woe woe unto him who knoweth that
- 26:22Speaker 1: he rebelleth against God. For salvation cometh to none such,
- 26:26Speaker 1: except it be through repentance and faith on the Lord
- 26:30Speaker 1: Jesus Christ. And the Lord God hath sent his holy
- 26:34Speaker 1: prophets among all the children of men, to declare these
- 26:37Speaker 1: things to every kindred nation and tongue, that thereby whosoever
- 26:42Speaker 1: should believe that Christ should come the same might receive
- 26:46Speaker 1: remission of their sins and rejoice with exceedingly great joy,
- 26:50Speaker 1: even as though He had already come among them. Yet
- 26:53Speaker 1: the Lord God saw that his people were a stiff
- 26:56Speaker 1: necked people, and he appointed unto them a law, the
- 27:00Speaker 1: Law of Moses. And many signs and wonders and types
- 27:04Speaker 1: and shadows showed he unto them concerning his coming, and
- 27:08Speaker 1: also holy prophets spake unto them concerning his coming. And
- 27:12Speaker 1: yet they harden their hearts and understood not that the
- 27:16Speaker 1: law of Moses availeth nothing excepted were through the atonement
- 27:20Speaker 1: of His blood. And even if it were possible that
- 27:23Speaker 1: little children could sin, they could not be saved. But
- 27:27Speaker 1: I say unto you they are blest, for behold, as
- 27:30Speaker 1: in atom or by nature they fall, even so the
- 27:34Speaker 1: blood of Christ atoneth for their sins. And moreover, I
- 27:38Speaker 1: say unto you that there shall be no other name given,
- 27:42Speaker 1: nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come
- 27:46Speaker 1: unto the children of men, only in and through the
- 27:49Speaker 1: name of Christ, the Lord omnipotent. For behold, he judgeth
- 27:54Speaker 1: and his judgment is just. And the infant perisheth not
- 27:58Speaker 1: that dieth in his end fancy. But men drink damnation
- 28:02Speaker 1: to their own souls, except they humble themselves and become
- 28:06Speaker 1: as little children, and believe that salvation was and is
- 28:11Speaker 1: and is to come in and through the atoning blood
- 28:14Speaker 1: of Christ, the Lord omnipotent. For the natural man is
- 28:18Speaker 1: an enemy to God, and has been from the fall
- 28:21Speaker 1: of Adam, and will be forever and ever unless he
- 28:25Speaker 1: yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit and putteth
- 28:28Speaker 1: off the natural man, and becometh a saint through the
- 28:31Speaker 1: atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient,
- 28:39Speaker 1: full of love, willing to submit to all things which
- 28:43Speaker 1: the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as
- 28:46Speaker 1: a child doth submit to his Father. And moreover, I
- 28:50Speaker 1: say unto you that the time shall come when the
- 28:53Speaker 1: knowledge of the Savior shall spread throughout every nation, kindred,
- 28:57Speaker 1: tongue and people. And hold, when that time cometh, none
- 29:02Speaker 1: shall be found blameless before God, except it be little children,
- 29:07Speaker 1: only through repentance and faith on the name of the
- 29:10Speaker 1: Lord God omnipotent. And even at this time, when thou
- 29:14Speaker 1: shalt have taught thy people the things which the Lord,
- 29:18Speaker 1: thy God hath commanded thee, even then are they found
- 29:22Speaker 1: no more blameless in the sight of God. Only according
- 29:25Speaker 1: to the words which I have spoken unto thee. And
- 29:28Speaker 1: now I have spoken the words which the Lord God
- 29:31Speaker 1: hath commanded me. And thus saith the Lord, they shall
- 29:35Speaker 1: stand as a bright testimony against this people at the
- 29:38Speaker 1: judgment day, whereof they shall be judged every man according
- 29:43Speaker 1: to his works, whether they be good or whether they
- 29:46Speaker 1: be evil. And if they be evil, they are consigned
- 29:50Speaker 1: to an awful view of their own guilt and abominations,
- 29:53Speaker 1: which doth cause them to shrink from the presence of
- 29:56Speaker 1: the Lord into a state of misery and endless torment,
- 30:00Speaker 1: from whence they can no more return. Therefore they have
- 30:03Speaker 1: drunk damnation to their own souls. Therefore they have drunk
- 30:08Speaker 1: out of the cup of the wrath of God, which
- 30:10Speaker 1: justice could no more deny unto them than it could
- 30:13Speaker 1: deny that Adam should fall because of his partaking of
- 30:16Speaker 1: the forbidden fruit. Therefore mercy could have claim on them
- 30:20Speaker 1: no more for ever. And their torment is as a
- 30:24Speaker 1: lake of fire and brimstone, whose flames are unquenchable, and
- 30:28Speaker 1: whose smoke ascendeth up forever and ever. Thus hath the
- 30:32Speaker 1: Lord commanded me Amen, And of the words of Mormon
- 30:38Speaker 1: and the Book of Mosiah, Chapters one through three,
