- 0:49Speaker 1: where Texas to eight one to five three zero texta
- 0:52Speaker 1: where textas followed by your message. A few messages I
- 0:55Speaker 1: got to catch up on so far from today's show,
- 0:58Speaker 1: including from our good friend Seapal in regards to quinn
- 1:03Speaker 1: Ewers' response to Sam Levitt about Sam saying he wants
- 1:06Speaker 1: to prove he's a better quarterback in this matchup, and
- 1:09Speaker 1: Quinn has taken the high road. Well, Seapal said, Quinn
- 1:12Speaker 1: should have said he he has to go against our
- 1:15Speaker 1: Texas defense. We'll see who has the better defense. You
- 1:19Speaker 1: know what, Seapal, I bet you Quinn yours is thinking that,
- 1:23Speaker 1: and I'm sure a lot of the other offensive members
- 1:25Speaker 1: on Texas think that, is that he doesn't have to
- 1:27Speaker 1: play us. He has to play the Texas secondary that
- 1:30Speaker 1: has been lights out this season. Seapal also said that
- 1:34Speaker 1: Scott Aboo, Yeah, he has had some under one hundred
- 1:36Speaker 1: yard games. Do not let him get going pressure Levitt
- 1:38Speaker 1: contain edges under control. Watch out for trick plays.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:43Speaker 1: For Arizona State offensively, from what I've seen, they love
- 1:48Speaker 1: love to run screenplays. They love to get quick pitch,
- 1:51Speaker 1: quick passes to the outside to the edges. You're not
- 1:55Speaker 1: gonna see a lot of slow developing plays like we
- 1:58Speaker 1: see from Steve Sarkisian and from Quinn Ewers. That's just
- 2:01Speaker 1: not how Kenny Dillingham's offense works. I mean think back
- 2:05Speaker 1: to his time at his time at Oregon. You know,
- 2:09Speaker 1: fairy quick gets the ball out right and We're going
- 2:11Speaker 1: to see that a lot, especially now without you Jordan Tyson,
- 2:14Speaker 1: the number one receiver, a lot's going to have to
- 2:16Speaker 1: rely on Cam Skataboo, who not only is their number
- 2:21Speaker 1: one running back, but with Tyson out, he's basically their
- 2:24Speaker 1: number one receiver as well. So a lot of pressure
- 2:28Speaker 1: will be on Sam Levitt and Cam Scataboo to lift
- 2:30Speaker 1: up this Arizona State offense. A Steve Sarracusan met with
- 2:35Speaker 1: the media today and we have a few sound bites
- 2:38Speaker 1: I wanted to share from Stark's time with the media today,
- 2:41Speaker 1: starting off with how him and his staff have tackled
- 2:46Speaker 1: preparing for a second playoff game.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think, you know, we've kind of
- 2:55Speaker 3: been in playoff mode really since.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Since the first Georgia game.
- 3:00Speaker 3: We had to kind of went out to get to
- 3:02Speaker 3: the SEC Championship game, and then we kind of reset
- 3:05Speaker 3: ourselves and it said, hey, we're in a four game playoff,
- 3:07Speaker 3: you know. And it was a great celebration at DKR
- 3:11Speaker 3: to have that first home game in the CFP.
- 3:13Speaker 2: It was amazing environment.
- 3:17Speaker 3: And with the extended time between games, we took a
- 3:20Speaker 3: moment to celebrate that, and then it was back to
- 3:21Speaker 3: work as usual.
- 3:22Speaker 2: You know, it really wasn't very difficult.
- 3:24Speaker 3: We've got a really mature team, an older team that
- 3:26Speaker 3: I think understands the task at hands.
- 3:28Speaker 2: So how different is.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It preparing for a second playoff game and for a
- 3:31Speaker 1: college football quarterfinal? Then it is maybe preparing for a
- 3:35Speaker 1: New Year six bowl, right, because you know two years
- 3:37Speaker 1: ago this bowl game, what it just featured two teams
- 3:42Speaker 1: in not in the college football playoff?
- 3:44Speaker 2: Right? So is it any similar? Is it any different here?
- 3:47Speaker 3: Sarks thoughts, Well, I think again, differently than before if
- 3:50Speaker 3: it's just your traditional New Year's Day bowl game and
- 3:53Speaker 3: you're at the bowl site for about a week or so,
- 3:55Speaker 3: a little bit different challenge this being a playoff and
- 3:58Speaker 3: we're only here for about three days with the goal
- 4:01Speaker 3: to be back here January twentieth. You know, you always
- 4:05Speaker 3: have as a coach, you have your concerns, But like
- 4:08Speaker 3: I said, we're a really mature team, you know, knock
- 4:11Speaker 3: on wood, you know, we do it the right way.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Obviously we got curfew and all those things in place.
- 4:16Speaker 3: But yeah, I think our guys understand, like I said,
- 4:18Speaker 3: the task at hand. They're focused on that first year in.
- 4:20Speaker 1: The SEC obviously for Texas and Steve Sarkeesian, How different
- 4:25Speaker 1: was it this year in terms of the physicality level
- 4:29Speaker 1: of talent than it was in the Big Toeve last year?
- 4:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I think, you know, the natural thing to point
- 4:33Speaker 3: out was the physical grind that that the SEC puts
- 4:39Speaker 3: on you, the body types, the speed, the physicality of
- 4:42Speaker 3: which the game is played in the SEC.
- 4:45Speaker 2: But the thing that we worked a.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Lot on that I thought paid dividends for us was
- 4:50Speaker 3: the mental intensity needed week in and week out in
- 4:53Speaker 3: this conference from top to bottom. If you don't show
- 4:55Speaker 3: up and play well, you can get beat. And I
- 4:58Speaker 3: think we saw that kind of across board in the
- 5:00Speaker 3: conference this year. I think a credit to our players,
- 5:03Speaker 3: I thought they showed up every week ready to play. Naturally,
- 5:05Speaker 3: we didn't win every game, but for the most part,
- 5:09Speaker 3: whether it was at home or on the road, we
- 5:10Speaker 3: showed up ready to play and we didn't have those
- 5:13Speaker 3: lapses you know that maybe some of the other teams had.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And last thing from Sark you mentioned about how different
- 5:19Speaker 1: it was to being the SEC this year. Has he
- 5:21Speaker 1: had to adjust the way he recruits and buy that.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Has he adjusted the type of athletes he recruits in
- 5:29Speaker 1: terms of do they play other sports because Texas is
- 5:32Speaker 1: playing in a different conference.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I think again, like we I really value competitors and
- 5:38Speaker 3: a lot of times, you know, not every one of
- 5:41Speaker 3: the guys we recruit as a multi sport athlete, but
- 5:44Speaker 3: we really look for that. We look for guys that compete,
- 5:48Speaker 3: whether it's in track, whether it's in basketball, whether it's
- 5:50Speaker 3: in baseball, whether it's in wrestling, whatever that can look like.
- 5:54Speaker 3: We're looking for true competitors because this league challenges you
- 5:57Speaker 3: that way. You just don't get to take a week off,
- 6:00Speaker 3: because the moment you do, you can get beat. And
- 6:03Speaker 3: we've seen it, right, and we've seen it across the board.
- 6:05Speaker 3: We got a lot of teams complaining that they didn't
- 6:08Speaker 3: get into the college football playoffs, but they stubbed their
- 6:11Speaker 3: toe at some point along the way as well.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Thoughts from Seam Sarkeys and as Texas prepares for Arizona State,
- 6:17Speaker 1: let's go back to Coyle Flood and we've played the
- 6:19Speaker 1: first half of his media availability in the second hour.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Here's the second half of it as we begin our
- 6:25Speaker 1: three of the day's program.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Perry Middleton, go ahead, Blood, good afternoon to your career.
- 6:31Speaker 4: You've coached a lot of great players.
- 6:34Speaker 5: What is it about this group of guys that you'll
- 6:37Speaker 5: remember most.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Well.
- 6:41Speaker 6: I think the first thing is that I've had them
- 6:44Speaker 6: for three and four years. You know, It's it's kind
- 6:46Speaker 6: of unique. You know, nobody likes to move around, you know,
- 6:51Speaker 6: as a coach. You know, I was in one place
- 6:54Speaker 6: for eleven years, so I'm certainly I've had that experience
- 6:58Speaker 6: before this. Everybody likes to be in one place. You
- 7:02Speaker 6: like your family to have kind of stability. All those
- 7:04Speaker 6: things are good things, but things happen in the profession,
- 7:07Speaker 6: you know, whether sometimes you get promoted to a job
- 7:09Speaker 6: and it's a job you know that's a good job,
- 7:11Speaker 6: and you move kind of like I did when I
- 7:13Speaker 6: came here from Alabama to be the office corn in
- 7:14Speaker 6: Uenter of Texas.
- 7:15Speaker 4: So those are all really good things.
- 7:17Speaker 6: But now to have been here for four years and
- 7:19Speaker 6: have guys like Jake and Hayden who I've had for
- 7:21Speaker 6: four years, and then that first recruiting class where we
- 7:24Speaker 6: took seven and they're all still here, that's unique.
- 7:27Speaker 4: And you know, in this day and age.
- 7:28Speaker 6: Especially now with the portal and all the other stuff
- 7:30Speaker 6: that's going on, to recruit seven players in the same
- 7:33Speaker 6: class and have them all still be here.
- 7:35Speaker 4: That is really really unique.
- 7:37Speaker 6: So I've got a real connection with these guys, and
- 7:40Speaker 6: I've had good connections with other players in the past.
- 7:43Speaker 6: But when you say, like I would say, hey, the
- 7:45Speaker 6: fact that I've had these guys for four years, three
- 7:47Speaker 6: or four years, my connection to them, and how much
- 7:49Speaker 6: they like each other, because I promise you they wouldn't
- 7:52Speaker 6: all state if they didn't like each other. And they
- 7:55Speaker 6: get along, they kid each other, they push each other,
- 7:57Speaker 6: they're not afraid to hold each other accountable. It's really
- 8:00Speaker 6: a special kind of culture that they've created in this room,
- 8:04Speaker 6: you know, kind of more specific, even more than what
- 8:07Speaker 6: it is as a team. So all that stuff is
- 8:09Speaker 6: really neat. And you know, the other part of it
- 8:12Speaker 6: for me is, you know, I had an older son
- 8:13Speaker 6: who kind of grew up in a football building, and
- 8:16Speaker 6: now I've got a younger son who's doing the same
- 8:17Speaker 6: thing here and they were both out there in practice
- 8:19Speaker 6: today and that was that was kind of neat for
- 8:21Speaker 6: me to see that and how comfortable my younger guy
- 8:24Speaker 6: is now with these players, kind of like my older
- 8:26Speaker 6: guy was with a group of players that were at
- 8:27Speaker 6: another place. So those things are all special and they're
- 8:30Speaker 6: all kind of they make this this group a little
- 8:32Speaker 6: bit unique.
- 8:34Speaker 2: That time for the last few questions in Q, Jeff, how.
- 8:36Speaker 4: Will go ahead?
- 8:37Speaker 7: Hey, Kyle, I know Sark has talked about Isaiah Bond
- 8:40Speaker 7: trying to get healthy.
- 8:41Speaker 4: And work his way back.
- 8:42Speaker 2: When when you've got IV healthy and a part of the.
- 8:45Speaker 7: Plan, how much does do that dynamic change what you
- 8:49Speaker 7: guys can do offensively, not just his ability to stretch
- 8:51Speaker 7: the field, but also acting as an extension of the
- 8:53Speaker 7: run game on screens and jets sweeps.
- 8:56Speaker 3: And things like that.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know that it changes what we do
- 8:59Speaker 6: on it's necessarily, but IB is a special kind of weapon.
- 9:02Speaker 6: And you kind of answered the question with the question
- 9:05Speaker 6: like his elite speed, it's it's just different. You know,
- 9:09Speaker 6: he's got the ability to be explosive every time he
- 9:13Speaker 6: touches the ball because of how well he runs, and
- 9:16Speaker 6: you know he's been out there practicing. I'll let Sark
- 9:17Speaker 6: speak to his availability. I don't know if he has
- 9:19Speaker 6: yet or not, but I'll let him speak to that.
- 9:20Speaker 6: But certainly we're all excited when he's out there, and
- 9:23Speaker 6: I do think it just causes one more different kind
- 9:26Speaker 6: of stress on the defense when you have somebody out
- 9:28Speaker 6: there with that kind of speed.
- 9:32Speaker 8: Vogel go ahead, yeah, coach, I asked Pkus yesterday, but
- 9:35Speaker 8: wanted to get your take on it from an offensive side.
- 9:38Speaker 8: These extra bull practices aren't really bull practices like they've
- 9:42Speaker 8: been in the past, where you've had two or three
- 9:44Speaker 8: weeks building up for one game. What's that like for
- 9:48Speaker 8: you to kind of utilize the young talents moving forward
- 9:52Speaker 8: and what's expected to be you know, extra practices or
- 9:55Speaker 8: you know, opportunities for development for these younger guys.
- 9:58Speaker 4: I kind of like it. I like it for this reason.
- 10:00Speaker 6: I think learning a game plan is a skilled and
- 10:04Speaker 6: just like any other skill in life, the more you
- 10:06Speaker 6: do it, the better you get at it. So even
- 10:08Speaker 6: though these some of these younger guys are playing on
- 10:10Speaker 6: the scout team and they're maybe doing some different stuff,
- 10:12Speaker 6: they're still in some of the some of those game
- 10:14Speaker 6: plan meetings and they're having to learn the game plan.
- 10:17Speaker 6: And I think that's gonna that's going to serve those
- 10:18Speaker 6: guys really well going forward next year when they're a
- 10:21Speaker 6: little closer to the top of the depth chart. So
- 10:23Speaker 6: I think the idea of continuing to have to learn
- 10:25Speaker 6: game plans in a game kind of game specific mode.
- 10:29Speaker 6: I kind of like it. I think it's been good
- 10:31Speaker 6: for these guys.
- 10:32Speaker 9: One going to ask you about outside of Georgia, you've
- 10:35Speaker 9: found some real success in the run game the last
- 10:38Speaker 9: back half of this season. What do you can what
- 10:42Speaker 9: do you attribute to that success, and what do you
- 10:44Speaker 9: need to do moving forward to to be playing on
- 10:47Speaker 9: through January twentieth.
- 10:50Speaker 6: Well, I think like you're a little bit you're thinking
- 10:52Speaker 6: a little bit more big picture, I think than coaches think.
- 10:56Speaker 6: You know, we've we've had some success run the football. Uh,
- 10:59Speaker 6: they've been in a couple games where we haven't. But
- 11:03Speaker 6: regardless of any of that, we don't start the game
- 11:07Speaker 6: with any rushing yards this week, so we've got to
- 11:10Speaker 6: execute this game plan.
- 11:11Speaker 5: You know.
- 11:11Speaker 6: That's kind of That's how I look at it from
- 11:13Speaker 6: from our perspective. You know, it was great to rush
- 11:16Speaker 6: the ball the way we did in the last game,
- 11:17Speaker 6: but we don't get any we don't get any kudos
- 11:20Speaker 6: for that. So we got to earn in every yard
- 11:23Speaker 6: that we rush for this week against the defense that
- 11:25Speaker 6: presents a lot of challenges. So you know, I'm not
- 11:28Speaker 6: worried about January twentieth, right now. I'm not worried about
- 11:32Speaker 6: tenth or the eleventh right now. You know, we're worried
- 11:34Speaker 6: about the Peach Bowl and playing really well in this game.
- 11:37Speaker 6: And I think the way you do that is to
- 11:39Speaker 6: practice well. And I'm excited about how we practice. The
- 11:41Speaker 6: last couple of days, last one for coach flood O Cook.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Coach talked a lot this year about how you got
- 11:50Speaker 5: outside zone back on track, and he spoke some to
- 11:53Speaker 5: the to the offensive line and what they did. How
- 11:56Speaker 5: did Trey and Jayden as well, you're running back help
- 12:00Speaker 5: outside zone also get back on track.
- 12:03Speaker 6: Yeah, there is no good running game if your running
- 12:06Speaker 6: backs aren't in sync with the offensive line. So I
- 12:09Speaker 6: think the tracks, the reads having their eyes in the
- 12:11Speaker 6: right place. You know, when you watch running backs, the
- 12:14Speaker 6: way you know you have a really good running back
- 12:16Speaker 6: is when you see a change of speed as they
- 12:18Speaker 6: go through the line of scrimmage. That means they're really
- 12:20Speaker 6: seeing it. I've heard people say like their feet are
- 12:22Speaker 6: connected to their eyes. Well, that's kind of what they mean.
- 12:25Speaker 6: Like there's an acceleration as they burst through the line.
- 12:27Speaker 6: I think you saw that last week with Trey and
- 12:29Speaker 6: with Jaden. So I think they've you know, the reps
- 12:32Speaker 6: they've gotten this year have shown up, and you know,
- 12:35Speaker 6: we're doing a better job of blocking it.
- 12:37Speaker 4: I think they're doing a better job of reading it.
- 12:38Speaker 6: And then when they do make their read, they're doing
- 12:41Speaker 6: a great job of accelerating through the line. And you know,
- 12:43Speaker 6: and every once in a while they got to make
- 12:45Speaker 6: a guy mess and they've done that too. So you know,
- 12:47Speaker 6: we're fortunate, even with the situation we're in the running
- 12:49Speaker 6: back room to have guys like Trey and Jaden and
- 12:52Speaker 6: Jeric who are doing a really nice job run the ball.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Force hands up.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Who who has jam and blues seventy seven yards touchdown
- 13:00Speaker 1: run as their favorite moment of the twenty twenty four season.
- 13:03Speaker 1: It might be up there, especially coming with all the
- 13:06Speaker 1: injuries Texas had sustained in that game on the offensive line.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I mean, he of Cam Williams leaves the game, Jake
- 13:12Speaker 1: Majors leaves the game, Kelvin Banks to one hundred percent.
- 13:15Speaker 1: But the job that Hayden Connor and Cole huts I
- 13:18Speaker 1: think it was Hayden Connor and Cole Hudson on that
- 13:19Speaker 1: play to open up the hole and then Jaden freaking
- 13:23Speaker 1: Blue seventy seven yards if you if you, if you
- 13:26Speaker 1: stop that picture, and I think if still frames can
- 13:29Speaker 1: get some trouble because you know a lot of people,
- 13:31Speaker 1: you know, they'll take a screen grab and they'll say, oh,
- 13:33Speaker 1: look the receiver's wide open, but it doesn't really count
- 13:35Speaker 1: for the dB just not being in the frame, but
- 13:37Speaker 1: he's actually there. If you take a if you take
- 13:40Speaker 1: a screenshot of when Blue right before he hits that hole,
- 13:44Speaker 1: and you say he's gonna score seventy seven, he's gonna
- 13:46Speaker 1: go seventy seven yards untouched, I don't know, I don't know,
- 13:49Speaker 1: I don't know if I believe you. But that just
- 13:51Speaker 1: a tests to the speed that Jayden Blue has, but
- 13:54Speaker 1: also to the level of confidence and trust that Sark
- 13:57Speaker 1: and cale Flood have because obviously Jayden Blue has had
- 13:59Speaker 1: his troubles fun with the football this year. Jared Gibson
- 14:01Speaker 1: as well, But it was Trey Weisner, it was Jack Gibson,
- 14:04Speaker 1: it was Jaden Blue that had a phenomenal game and
- 14:06Speaker 1: helped push Texas over Clemson. I think we're going to
- 14:09Speaker 1: see something similar against Arizona State on Wednesday. Our three
- 14:13Speaker 1: just getting started. More than come here, as the Craig
- 14:15Speaker 1: Way Show continues on AM thirteen hundred.
- 14:17Speaker 2: The zone
