- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome back to the North Florida Sports Network.
- 0:08Speaker 1: What a hash-kicking FSU baseball put on the Gators last night 19-4.
- 0:15Speaker 1: 19-4.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Right.
- 0:18Speaker 1: In a seven-inning ballgame, mercy ruled for the second time this season.
- 0:23Speaker 1: That is something that the Noles haven't done in over 20 years.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I know I hate this series where they play it on tuesdays, but right should be a weekend series but getting beat yeah well, just you know you score 12 runs.
- 0:40Speaker 2: The first game, you play them 14.
- 0:41Speaker 2: The second game, mercy ruled them.
- 0:42Speaker 2: In the second game 19 in the first game, you play them 14.
- 0:43Speaker 2: The second game, mercy ruled them.
- 0:44Speaker 2: In the second game 19 in the third game.
- 0:47Speaker 2: It's just an ass whooping all season.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Yep.
- 0:52Speaker 1: The lineup just continues to impress.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Right, I'm going to be honest with you.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I would put UF below Stetson and Jacksonville in terms of what they've shown midweek.
- 1:08Speaker 2: They have no interest in playing Florida.
- 1:12Speaker 1: State Right.
- 1:14Speaker 1: That's why I don't like the series.
- 1:17Speaker 2: To me they look like a team In the beginning of the season, one series or something.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I said it last night.
- 1:21Speaker 2: They look like a baseball team that despises having to play for their coach.
- 1:25Speaker 2: They just don't want to be out there.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Like everybody who's played baseball has had a season like that, where they hated their coach Not even hated, but just it sucked being out there.
- 1:38Speaker 1: There's a good atmosphere around the FSU baseball team.
- 1:41Speaker 2: You can feel it Last night was insane for a baseball game.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Yeah, you had the band there.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I mean, it felt like a football game at times, but I was wondering how that team would react to it, especially coming off a place like Boston where you didn't have an atmosphere.
- 1:58Speaker 1: You know, sometimes you saw the basketball team this season when people showed up, didn't, didn't come out, you know, and they gave up two runs in the top of the first.
- 2:09Speaker 1: But that was, that didn't happen.
- 2:12Speaker 1: That was no problem, dude yeah I mean they didn't, they could not, the gators couldn't get them out.
- 2:18Speaker 1: The whole, the whole lineup went through unscathed right and it was incredible.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I've never seen anything like it.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Yeah, really, in terms of playing against a team that West did his first career homer Right.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Oh my God, His first homer as a Knoll yeah.
- 2:35Speaker 2: He just, I mean, he was all over it, dude Right, I was crushed.
- 2:40Speaker 1: It was, and then it got to the point where it was 13-3.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I'm at the game and I was like you know I got.
- 2:48Speaker 1: If he hits a baster load.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Who was that?
- 2:49Speaker 2: that hit, that Dinges.
- 2:50Speaker 2: He just hit it, marco.
- 2:52Speaker 2: That guy probably got the most power on the team.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah, got a standing ovation after.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I mean, that's what he does.
- 2:59Speaker 2: He goes up there like he's playing fast-pitch softball.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Or you know he's playing fast pitch softball, or you know adult league softball.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I made it 17-3.
- 3:05Speaker 1: That was the end of the night, yeah, but an impressive.
- 3:10Speaker 1: They came out like a football game almost and just beat the crap out of the other team.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Right, they definitely fed off of the crowd from the start.
- 3:17Speaker 2: The pitcher Armstrong the lefty Armstrong looked good.
- 3:20Speaker 2: You know, the pitchers looked fine.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Give up a couple bombs early.
- 3:25Speaker 2: I mean, caglione shouldn't be playing college baseball yeah that guy's a monster man.
- 3:30Speaker 1: That guy's a monster.
- 3:31Speaker 1: He hits it high in the sky Right.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I mean, he hit a home run against them last game.
- 3:35Speaker 2: He's going to do stuff like that, but you don't walk people, you don't give free passes, man, and you'll be able to stay alive.
- 3:44Speaker 1: In the lineup that you have.
- 3:45Speaker 1: You just got to throw strikes.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Don't give them anything free.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Make them, earn it and put them up against your lineup.
- 3:52Speaker 2: But that game, by the end of the second inning, that game was over, there, seems to be a good morale on the team right now.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Yeah, and Link Jarrett is what everyone thought you would get, is what you're starting to see.
- 4:07Speaker 1: The guy who's won National Coach of the Year twice before even taking over.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Right and I think a lot of people just kind of overlooked or underestimated just what kind of impact it had him coming in late before last season Right, you can feel it.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Yeah, the morale of the team.
- 4:23Speaker 2: You couldn't turn the roster over the way that you did in this past offseason.
- 4:27Speaker 2: You know, bringing 26 new Right, and that's the difference.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Are the guys that you added to the lineup Right?
- 4:34Speaker 2: Yeah, man, it was impressive.
- 4:36Speaker 1: But you know, I only play this, I only get to give me my music, for you know what time it is.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 4:45Speaker 1: That's right.
- 4:46Speaker 2: It's that time of year.
- 4:47Speaker 1: It's going to be a little golf tournament up in Augusta, georgia.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I don't know if you've heard of it.
- 4:56Speaker 1: It's called the Masters, a guy named Bobby Jones, his dad, yeah, bobby Jones, his dad, yeah, bobby Jones started this tournament, yeah, with all the best players, all the best players, for a long time.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It's kind of crazy.
- 5:12Speaker 1: You know this is a guy who was at the top of his game, retired to be a lawyer.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Oh, how the times have changed.
- 5:20Speaker 1: But you know, I guess it doesn't.
- 5:23Speaker 1: They try to keep the timeless aspect of it, and it does.
- 5:26Speaker 1: There's certain things that you just don't understand, like the squirrels and the pine cones.
- 5:32Speaker 1: It's a beautiful, majestic place and I'm going to be captivated again this weekend and I can't wait to see it Kind of can forget about this live PGA thing that's going on.
- 5:46Speaker 1: It's the only time you're really going to get all the players to play.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Is that you'll get four times really?
- 5:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the big one.
- 5:58Speaker 1: This is Rory McIlroy's donut hole in the career slam.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Will he be pegged by the ghosts at the tent hole?
- 6:09Speaker 1: I just want to see Tiger, tiger Woods.
- 6:12Speaker 1: No sex until after the tournament.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Will that be on Sunday, or will that be on Saturday?
- 6:20Speaker 1: Or will that be on Friday?
- 6:20Speaker 1: Or will that be on Friday if he doesn't make the cut?
- 6:22Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 6:26Speaker 2: You better know he's banging whenever he's out of there.
- 6:28Speaker 2: That's good to know.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I just hope that maybe he can take it until Sunday.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Who's going to be?
- 6:34Speaker 1: Obviously you have Scotty Scheffler, who's the favorite?
- 6:37Speaker 1: The guy who jump hits the ball.
- 6:39Speaker 1: He's incredible, simple minded, big, talented golfer.
- 6:41Speaker 1: But Scheffler, who's a favorite?
- 6:42Speaker 1: The guy who jump hits the ball.
- 6:42Speaker 1: He's incredible, simple-minded, big, talented golfer.
- 6:43Speaker 1: But it's hard to come in there as a favorite and win.
- 6:47Speaker 1: It's hard to do that in golf.
- 6:50Speaker 1: John Rahm will be trying to defend his title.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Victor Hovland, wyndham Clark are, among others, as well as Brooks Koepka from Live Tour.
- 7:00Speaker 1: As well as Brooks Koepka from Live Tour, as well as Brian Harmon, cameron Smith, cameron Young.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Watch out for Ludwig Adberg, jimmy.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Okay, okay, I like the name yeah, and then you got Matt Fitzpatrick.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Matt Fitzpatrick, yeah, he's still on the Max Homa.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Patrick Cantley, Tommy Fleetwood.
- 7:19Speaker 2: What about Pat Fitzmatrick?
- 7:21Speaker 2: Is he in?
- 7:21Speaker 1: it too Well, it's going to be interesting.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I got 18 under being the winning score.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Okay.
- 7:29Speaker 2: All of my hope for Tiger Woods, you know, to win it and everything like that.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I have the anti of that for Jon Rahm.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I don't know what you call that, but like I just yeah, as long as he doesn't win, I'm happy well, yeah, we'll find out I'll be glued to it.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I mean scotty scheffler is the favorite right and we'll see, but scotty's there's a handful, yeah we'll see if anybody can take him down.
- 7:55Speaker 1: It keeps the even keel, though, but we gave you the top five offensive newcomers that Jimmy Reno's looking for All right, we're switching the ball.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Now we're going to go to the other side to defense Top five defensive newcomers that weren't on the team last year, that are going to be on the team this year.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Disclaimer we're not counting the damn Orange Bowl.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, we're not.
- 8:25Speaker 2: We're not counting it what Orange Bowl.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 8:27Speaker 2: That was practice.
- 8:28Speaker 2: All right, that wasn't a game, right, all right, all right.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Well, number five.
- 8:33Speaker 2: I am going to start with the linebacker, sean Murphy, transferred from Alabama.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Oh man, this is a guy I was really excited about, Just because you can see the size he had.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Right In a position that we needed.
- 8:45Speaker 2: You say linebacker from Alabama and you're like, okay, he's highly rated, obviously coming out of high school because he went to Alabama.
- 8:51Speaker 2: I mean, he's a big physical kid, can move.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Well, we need somebody to go along with Nicholson and Lundy Right, I'm excited to see what he can actually do out there.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I'm hopeful I know that Cryer you got Jonathan juice Cryer as well so three or four linebackers solidify themselves as actually being able to depend on them and that could be huge for this defense.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Again, this list is for top five players.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Jimmy Reno is excited to see this upcoming season as of today.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Just a little, jimmy, that's exciting me, yeah, yeah.
- 9:26Speaker 1: But it gives you an idea of what to look for, right, what to be excited about, because there's going to be a lot of new faces on this team Number five.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Number five.
- 9:37Speaker 2: You did it.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's number five.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Number four I'm going to go with the true freshman defensive back, charles Lester III.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Oh, man Heard a lot about this guy through the recruiting ranks Right.
- 9:50Speaker 2: He was a highly rated, highly touted guy, that's another number four here, another true freshman.
- 9:57Speaker 1: at number four you went, true freshman.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Well, because I think he's's gonna be getting out there.
- 10:02Speaker 2: You know, he, I think that he's and there was some mixed reviews, man it you know, coming out of high school it's like, well, you know, he's good at this.
- 10:10Speaker 2: He's not so great at that, but he's been step for step with some of the the older class or the upperclassmen.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I'm excited to see if his ranking is legit, if he can really go out there and be one of those first year guys.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Yeah, you know he got compared to Travis Hunter a lot in terms of the same kind of immediate impact type of deal, so I want to see if it's legit.
- 10:30Speaker 1: And if it's legit, he'll be playing and you'll get to see it.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Right, that's right, and that that's you know.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I got him at number four, all right.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Now, really, the top three are my most.
- 10:41Speaker 2: To me, are the guys that I'm most excited about, oh yeah, the ones that I really think have a great chance of making big impacts, yeah, that are season hinges kind of.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, number three is going to be Marvin Jones Jr Number three.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Number three.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Wow.
- 10:58Speaker 2: And the reason is because you know if he can add, nobody expects him to come in and be Jared Verse.
- 11:04Speaker 2: You know nobody's going to.
- 11:06Speaker 2: I don't think there's another player that can come in and do that right now.
- 11:13Speaker 2: But if he can come in and add something, you get kind of like a combo of Patrick Payton and Jared Verse.
- 11:17Speaker 2: You know a guy that's explosive, with a little more size than Peyton, opposite Peyton, but with the same kind of bend in the length that that can be very disruptive.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I think he's.
- 11:28Speaker 1: And you know I'm excited because you're going to get, hopefully, a better version of Peyton, which is going to make it harder to block both sides Right.
- 11:36Speaker 2: And he's bulked up, so he's he's looking to stay on the field.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Three downs, he's another recruit highly talented recruit.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Oh, of course.
- 11:42Speaker 1: You know at the time to put up numbers here.
- 11:45Speaker 1: He's seen that.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's been a big-time program.
- 11:48Speaker 2: You know he spent a year at Georgia.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Yeah, Two years, yeah another.
- 11:52Speaker 1: You said it, so that's two already from the SEC Right.
- 11:56Speaker 2: And of course, the fact that he's Marvin's baby shade that also plays a part into it as well, that's why I thought he would be higher on the list honestly.
- 12:05Speaker 1: But it's still.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I mean, when you think about there are a lot of dudes.
- 12:09Speaker 1: You haven't even listed any of the other transfers that they picked up.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah listed any other transfers that they picked up.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, well, for for me it's the defense starts with replacing that ugliness on the interior, that disruptiveness, those monsters, fisky, you know fabian love it, dennis briggs, all the guys that you that were out there and disruptive, right um, so you get one back.
- 12:33Speaker 2: You're getting farmer back.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Yeah, you're getting farmer back, but but we had farmer last year so that was huge.
- 12:38Speaker 2: He's got the experience coming back.
- 12:39Speaker 2: But, as far as newcomers go, the top two are going to be along that defensive line.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Oh, um, and I'm, you know, I I'm.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Number six would be the guy we got from from west virginia.
- 12:50Speaker 2: He's toshi.
- 12:51Speaker 2: He's a defensive lineman as well.
- 12:52Speaker 2: That's number two.
- 12:53Speaker 2: No, number two is going to be big Toko from from Oregon state.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Wow, yeah, uh, d N D tackle hybrid kind of guy I think they're looking for.
- 13:02Speaker 2: For him to kind of replace some of that anger and and and meanness from from Fisk Uh.
- 13:09Speaker 2: But he's also experienced man, great experience man.
- 13:11Speaker 2: He's an upperclassman.
- 13:12Speaker 2: He's in his final year.
- 13:14Speaker 2: He's going to bring that seniority.
- 13:16Speaker 2: I like it, the workmanship and he provides you.
- 13:21Speaker 2: If you want to set the edge with your end, he can do that.
- 13:24Speaker 2: If you want to play a three-man front, he can be out there on that end.
- 13:28Speaker 2: He can also slide inside when you've got to rest bodies in there.
- 13:31Speaker 2: This guy could be a huge piece on the D-line.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Really excited to see how he fits and picks up things.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Another position where you can slide in and get these transfers.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's what's going to, something that Florida State's already built a reputation in doing, if they can just reload at that D-line position from last year I mean, you remember 2012 to 2013, like that's what they did.
- 13:50Speaker 2: How are they going to replace Bjornorn werner and tank caridin?
- 13:57Speaker 2: All right, like boom national title next year.
- 13:58Speaker 2: It, you know it leads into the number one, which is big daryl jackson oh yeah, and now he played.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why we, we put that disclaimer out there, but that was no, no big man's finally getting.
- 14:10Speaker 2: A big man is finally getting a plan chance to be on the field he.
- 14:13Speaker 2: He should have been playing last year and from all reports he's just a monster on the inside.
- 14:20Speaker 2: He's the guy that, yeah, he's here.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Basically, brothers with Josh Farmer, they're finally going to get to play together.
- 14:28Speaker 2: That's exciting.
- 14:29Speaker 2: You assume that's going to happen.
- 14:30Speaker 2: That's exciting to see right there.
- 14:31Speaker 1: And I can see that angle, because you're gonna have them playing together a dream that they had, you know and see if they can maximize their both, both their potential.
- 14:41Speaker 2: It's only gonna help the other guys alone.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Yeah, this is it.
- 14:43Speaker 2: This is their last year in college.
- 14:45Speaker 2: You know both of them.
- 14:46Speaker 2: They're this is it.
- 14:47Speaker 2: They're gonna try to do this, maximize and head to the lead together.
- 14:50Speaker 2: But he's also that physical presence, that like man.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Man, we didn't have that last year, dude, if we would have had him the entire season, it adding that size, I know, I know that this team couldn't have done anything without Jordan Travis.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I forgot how stupid of me.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Jordan Travis is getting back to it.
- 15:12Speaker 1: He's got.
- 15:12Speaker 1: There's a draft coming up, by the way.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Yeah, there is, there's so much.
- 15:17Speaker 2: What's in like three months.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll see.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I think it's right around preseason.
- 15:21Speaker 2: End of April.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Yeah, oh man, but yeah, daryl Jackson by far.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Well, there you go, folks, there are your top five.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Here's the top five.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Most of them are on the D-line Jimmy Reno.
- 15:36Speaker 1: It's all about the big uggies, the top five defensive newcomers to Florida State's lineup that Jimmy Reno's looking forward to Right, brought to you by I mean I could have picked all of the DB signees.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Honestly, all five of them Brought to you by Could be you, john Cameron.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Sponsors Could be, you Can't pay for it.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Hey, we put a whiteout on a bee a couple weeks ago, yeah, and it lived.
- 16:03Speaker 2: So how about that?
- 16:05Speaker 1: Well, Miami, florida State, baseball Right.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Florida State, florida State's going to be down.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Yeah, go ahead that well, miami florida state baseball right.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Florida state down.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Yeah, go down.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Two weekend starters uh, cam lighter second weekend in a row he will not make a start.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Connor whittaker not gonna start.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Uh, I was, I didn't even know anything that had popped up with whittaker.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Um, apparently link jared sounds a little bit less optimistic with him about the outlook, pretty optimistic with Leiter.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I think they're just making sure with him, right.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Well, from the start what this team had and they sure do have a lineup.
- 16:40Speaker 1: It's really good.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Yeah, Miami can hit.
- 16:46Speaker 2: They struggled this year.
- 16:47Speaker 2: It's a rivalry game.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Yeah, Miami has some bats and if you're going to be missing.
- 16:52Speaker 1: We'll see who can step up.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Who's going to get the bump?
- 16:54Speaker 1: I think it's going to be another slugfest.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Who's getting the start on Friday then?
- 16:59Speaker 2: Thursday it'll be Jamie.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Arn yeah, we knew that.
- 17:01Speaker 2: But who's on Friday?
- 17:02Speaker 2: Friday will be freshman Brady Lauch, all right Lefty, and then Saturday I think it's going to be Carson Dorsey.
- 17:09Speaker 2: The Juco transfer Started last Sunday against Boston College Did really well.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Unfortunately, the bats didn't wake up Until he was out of the game.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Didn't pick up a win.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I hope they didn't run out of ammunition Because they were firing them up.
- 17:25Speaker 2: They look really really happy.
- 17:27Speaker 2: To be back down in the south.
- 17:29Speaker 1: The atmosphere is up, it's going to be back down in the south.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Oh, the atmosphere is up.
- 17:30Speaker 1: It's going to be another sellout all weekend.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Yeah, it's going to be nice.
- 17:33Speaker 2: It's a great atmosphere over there.
- 17:35Speaker 2: It's warm out there for it.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It's kind of it could be an even better place, you know, with the few adjustments.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah we were looking last night.
- 17:43Speaker 1: There's plenty of areas to add scene, but when you have fans buying in you got the daggum band there it's obviously going to help, and it did.
- 17:52Speaker 1: We'll see what happens this weekend.
- 17:56Speaker 2: We'll see what happens.
- 17:57Speaker 1: This is the big one in baseball.
- 17:59Speaker 1: All right, and we'll do that, we'll react to it and we'll talk to you next time, right here on the North Florida Sports Network.
