- 0:27Hey, good morning, everybody from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today I want to talk to you about the fact that two things
- 0:33can be true at the same time. Now, you've heard me probably
- 0:37mention this on the podcast before, but today I want to just
- 0:39focus on it because I think it's important for us to understand
- 0:42the dynamics of it. Two things can be true at the
- 0:46same time. I can be exhausted and I can be
- 0:50completely and totally happy about being exhausted or just
- 0:54about the exhaustion because I did a really great day of work.
- 0:58You know, when I finish coaching everybody at the end of the day,
- 1:01I can be spent mentally, but I can feel really happy about the
- 1:05job that I did. Or I can be completely in love
- 1:08with my husband and know how much I love him.
- 1:11Yet I want to kill him because he said that my son could, you
- 1:15know, go off and put a fish tank into the bedroom.
- 1:19Those two things can actually be true at the same time.
- 1:24And we, I think we forget that things are not absolutes.
- 1:29Two things can be true at the same time.
- 1:32You know, I was coaching a couple this week and I said to
- 1:36them the very same thing. Two things can be true at the
- 1:38same time. You can be in love with each
- 1:40other and you can't want to throw punch each other at the
- 1:42same time. And they started laughing about
- 1:44it. But it's true, and I think that
- 1:46we forget how hard it is to be in interaction with other people
- 1:53when we have our expectations and they don't know them.
- 1:57So it leads to these moments of discord and moments of
- 2:01discomfort when we are not clear about our expectations, and it
- 2:07sets us up to be in conflict in our lives.
- 2:11And if we can remember that two things can be true at the same
- 2:15time, it eases us out of the anger, It eases us out of the
- 2:20frustration. It puts us into a place of
- 2:22awareness that we are very complex emotional beings.
- 2:27Human beings are incredibly complex emotional beings.
- 2:32You know, it's long debated aspects of, you know, feelings,
- 2:35emotions. Which comes first?
- 2:37How does one trigger another? And the truth comes down to
- 2:40this. We might understand some of the
- 2:42mechanics around feelings and emotions, but we still don't
- 2:47have clarity on where they all come from, where thoughts come
- 2:52from. How does an idea come into your
- 2:54head? There's a lot of Gray, Gray
- 2:58space, if you will, I want to say Gray matter, meaning that
- 3:02that's in the brain. But there's a lot of Gray space
- 3:04here. Nothing is absolute.
- 3:06There isn't black and white here.
- 3:09And just like, you know, we we want people to give us grace.
- 3:13We have to provide grace for others and in the in the
- 3:17acknowledgement that two things can be true at the same time.
- 3:22We can make decisions from a more graceful place, and we can
- 3:26make our actions from a more graceful place.
- 3:29But you first have to allow yourself to recognize two things
- 3:33can be true at the same time. And then you have to decide, OK,
- 3:37well, if two things are true at the same time, which one of
- 3:40those two things do I want to put my focus on which?
- 3:44And I'm not saying you ignore the problems.
- 3:46Please understand this is not about ignoring the problems.
- 3:48This is about having grace with it all so that you can heal
- 3:53what's not right and what you can, you know, put your
- 3:57attention on grows. We all know that where your
- 3:59attention goes, things grow. So you have to recognize that
- 4:05when you are in your state of frustration and you are putting
- 4:08your attention on the frustration, the frustration
- 4:11grows. But if two things are possible
- 4:15at the same time, like I love you and I can't stand to the
- 4:19things you do, then you have to say am I, you know, focusing on
- 4:24the fact that I love the person or am I focusing on the problem?
- 4:28And again, this does not mean that you don't deal with the
- 4:31issues that need to be dealt with.
- 4:33What it means is that you understand there is a higher
- 4:38action in mind and that is the love.
- 4:40The love is always present. So, and I'm using that as the
- 4:44example, but this can be done in any, any situation and you can
- 4:48figure out which one is the higher important emotion for you
- 4:52to focus on now. I mean, I'll be the first one to
- 4:55admit my husband and I drive each other crazy.
- 4:58There's no question about the fact that we can irritate each
- 5:01other absolutely without question.
- 5:03That's called being in a relationship and we stick it out
- 5:09because we love each other, because that's more important to
- 5:12us than anything. And we've been some through some
- 5:14really crappy things, let me tell you, the crappiest of
- 5:17crappy. And we have stuck it out because
- 5:19we love each other. And just because we have made
- 5:21stupid choices and said stupid things and done stupid things
- 5:25doesn't mean we give up on each other.
- 5:26Because two things can be true at the same time.
- 5:30And you get to process that and consciously think through which
- 5:34is the one I want my energy to go to, which is the one I want
- 5:38to grow. You know, there's that old
- 5:41American, Native American saying about there are two wolves
- 5:45inside of us. And you know, there's the dark
- 5:50side and that light side of the wolf.
- 5:51And then the question is, well, which one grows?
- 5:54Whichever one you feed. And I, I butchered that probably
- 5:58terribly. But the reality is, whatever you
- 6:02put attention to grows. Just like I can plant 2 seeds in
- 6:06the ground, I can give them both the dirt, I can put the seeds in
- 6:10both the cups. Which one is going to grow?
- 6:13Which one is going to thrive? The one I water and the one I
- 6:16feed, the other one will stagnate and do nothing.
- 6:18It will just sit in the dirt. A seed in the dirt is not
- 6:21enough. It needs to be nurtured.
- 6:24And this is how this works. So I want you to think about
- 6:27this today. Two things can be true at the
- 6:29same time. What are your two things that
- 6:32you need to put your awareness to and figure out?
- 6:35Because that's what's going to make the difference in your
- 6:37life. OK guys, I will see you
- 6:39tomorrow. Have a blessed day.
- 6:40Bye.
