- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by Chinook Cedry. This is episode 534.
- 0:21I'll be your host, Kyle Cord. I'm here with my Co host and
- 0:28birthday boy Nate Reyes. Nate, how we doing?
- 0:34Casey how are we buddy? Doing good doing good.
- 0:38Just just another day. I, I got pretty depressed a
- 0:44couple weeks ago because I was at that time 31 and change years
- 0:51old. That, that realization that it's
- 0:58not the age you're turning, it's the age that you've completed.
- 1:03And when that, when that switches, when that perspective,
- 1:08it's just, it kind of sucks. You know, when you, when you
- 1:13figure that out, it's I, you know that you know, this like,
- 1:19but I for some reason, I think you just get lost in the sauce
- 1:23and, and think I'm just turning 32 now.
- 1:26You kind of feel robbed like of a year of life.
- 1:29You're like, it's, it's every year you you're reminded of this
- 1:32fact. You're like, well, yeah, there
- 1:34goes another year of my life. So good stuff though, man, good
- 1:39stuff. Got spoiled everybody.
- 1:41Everybody's spoiling me. Feel blessed, man, Feel blessed.
- 1:45I'm I'm excited for this lid. You got me.
- 1:47I got a new lid today from the wifey.
- 1:50You know how hard it was to purchase a Yankees hat?
- 1:53Oh my, Like under my account? That's what I'm asking.
- 1:56Is is it the? It's not the pod account, it's
- 1:59your account. It's.
- 2:00Oh no, Oh no. It's under my name, under my my
- 2:05account with with said company. It's wasn't fun, but you know
- 2:10what? The things.
- 2:11We do. I'm, I'm stoked for that.
- 2:13The things we do for our friends, it's.
- 2:15True. It's true.
- 2:18Well, there's no Yankee ball for you to enjoy today, but I
- 2:21figured we could talk some some ball around the league if if
- 2:25you're so inclined, inclined. You want to, you want, you want
- 2:34to talk some, some Pittsburgh Pirates?
- 2:38You want to, you want to talk some Pittsburgh Pirates?
- 2:42Is that what I'm hearing? Is there like a remix to this
- 2:47song that we can play with? Just like plays it slow and
- 2:52tragic. What a joke, my goodness.
- 2:58What a dumpster fire this franchise is.
- 3:00My goodness. I mean, where do we start?
- 3:06Derek Shelton fired that that this goes to show you the state
- 3:13of their team right now. I came into today planning on
- 3:16talking about the Pirates, but for a completely different
- 3:18reason. I wanted to talk about Paul
- 3:20Skeens and how he has little to zero run support anytime he goes
- 3:27out these days, really in in his short career thus far.
- 3:33And then the news drops that Derek Shelton has been fired,
- 3:37further adding to the dumpster that is this fire of a
- 3:44franchise. Good on the Pirates for doing
- 3:50what they needed to do. I guess I I feel weird saying
- 3:54that because you you just never know truly how a guy is received
- 4:01by the players, by the front office, by the fans.
- 4:04But to your point that you've brought up many times before
- 4:06and, and a lot of other people have it's it's a common
- 4:09occurrence in sports when things get this bad.
- 4:13Heads got to roll. And it sounds like that he maybe
- 4:19has lost the clubhouse a little bit, which that tends to happen
- 4:22when when losses start accumulating, when bad vibes
- 4:27just continue to to pile on one another.
- 4:31The managers often the one that everyone looks to.
- 4:36And I think the pirates were just done looking to Derek
- 4:40Shelton. And so they showed him the door.
- 4:44I don't know, like, where do you go from here if you're the
- 4:48pirates? I, I don't know, like I, I
- 4:52don't, oh, when you fire your manager in May, this isn't like
- 5:00a, this isn't like a, oh, we're trying to spark something.
- 5:05We feel like we have something. This isn't like a Joe Girardi
- 5:11and Rob Thompson situation. You know what I mean?
- 5:16It's almost like you got to pack it in like it's May and you got
- 5:19to pack it in. And.
- 5:23And I think for the average baseball fan that may not be
- 5:26super close to the Pirates. And and they just look at the
- 5:28standings every once in a while can be like, yeah, of course
- 5:31they're 2 and 26 at the time of this recording.
- 5:34Of course you're going to pack it in like it's. 12 and 26 not.
- 5:37What did I say? 2 I said.
- 5:38Yeah, it may as well may as well be as well 26.
- 5:41I meant 12, but yeah, it's just like that.
- 5:44You, you feel like I, I don't see, I don't see this team going
- 5:49on a run. I don't see this team all of a
- 5:51sudden like flipping the script with this transition.
- 5:59I, I, I feel for Pirates vans because it doesn't feel like
- 6:03there's any light at the end of the tunnel at at this point.
- 6:07I feel like Pirates fans forgot that they're even in a dark
- 6:10tunnel. It's just what life is that?
- 6:13That's all they know is darkness.
- 6:15That's just what it is and it sucks because of like the talent
- 6:20that you see on the roster and like the potential that you see
- 6:24with some of these names you have.
- 6:26You have like your old vet who's going to have his retired number
- 6:30as a pirate. Like you, you feel like there's
- 6:34there's enough there to at least have like a competitive,
- 6:37enjoyable season as a fan. And maybe that's the hope.
- 6:43Maybe that's what like a a new manager can provide.
- 6:47I don't I haven't. Do they have an interim
- 6:50replacement their bench? Coach Don Kelly will be taking
- 6:54over. So this frankly don't know much
- 6:58about Don Kelly. He's been in this role since
- 7:002020. Don Kelly Don Kelly The is that
- 7:06a lefty for the for the Tigers for a while?
- 7:12That's going to be some great recall.
- 7:14I don't that doesn't sound. Familiar, like a platoon guy.
- 7:20How old is he? Don Kelly, let's do a little,
- 7:25let's do a little digging around here.
- 7:26Sure. The Pirates new manager, 45
- 7:30years old. About. 4045 and 82 days old.
- 7:36OK. From Butler, PA Drafted by the
- 7:39Detroit Tigers in the eighth round of the 2001 June amateur
- 7:44draft from Park University. Let's pull some numbers.
- 7:49He is an outfielder, third baseman and 1st baseman.
- 7:55Played played for the Pirates in 2007.
- 8:01Accumulated a negative .5 WAR in just 25 games and then proceeded
- 8:08to spend a a handful of years in Detroit, 2009 to 2014.
- 8:15Come on dog, it's your boy. No ball.
- 8:18And then finish his career with the Miami Marlins from 2015 to
- 8:252016. It's.
- 8:27Your boy, no ball. That's a pull.
- 8:30Didn't you hold on? Yeah, I thought you said he was
- 8:32a pitcher for the. No, I said.
- 8:35A platoon guy for the Tigers. A lefty platoon guy for the
- 8:39Tigers. Oh, I.
- 8:41Well, you said Lefty. I just.
- 8:42Yeah, yeah, I, I think my mind immediately went to.
- 8:44Sure. No, I, I, I I remember hearing
- 8:52the name. I remember Bats.
- 8:53Lefty. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:55Yep. That's some that's that's recall
- 8:57right there. That's.
- 8:59Some pull dude for somebody didn't see the field everyday.
- 9:03And that's your new Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 9:07No manager, I don't, I don't mean no, I'm not like throwing
- 9:10shade that way. I don't think that's what makes
- 9:12a good manager by any means, but overall, just going back to my
- 9:16point, like I I, it sucks, man, Like there's nothing to be
- 9:20excited about. There's there's not there's no
- 9:22hope there. It's.
- 9:25Hold on, let me let me ask you this going back to your earlier,
- 9:29earlier point about firing a guy in May, early May at that
- 9:35thinking to you, you sort of continue that thought by saying
- 9:38it's kind of their way of saying pack it in.
- 9:42This isn't something that you're going to spark the team with.
- 9:46Can I play devil's advocate? Is this I, I'm not giving the
- 9:50Pirates run off us any credit necessarily, but just
- 9:54logistically looking at the details of this and and the
- 9:57timing of it, could you make the argument that the firing
- 10:02happening this early in May, this early in the season, all
- 10:06things considered, is their way? Or it's, it's an alternate
- 10:12response to the state of where the team is at as opposed to
- 10:16which we've seen before. Other teams, other front offices
- 10:20will ride it out the course of the season and you'll get,
- 10:23you'll get a quote, you'll get a, a line or two from, from the
- 10:27front office execs being like, no, we believe in our guy.
- 10:31We're going to ride this out and see where it takes us, yadda,
- 10:34yadda, yadda. But instead of doing that for
- 10:36another full season in Pittsburgh, they stepped in and
- 10:39said we got to go a different path.
- 10:42I'm not, I'm not against the firing.
- 10:44I don't I don't think there's anything wrong with it.
- 10:46Like you start off this way and what you mentioned about like,
- 10:49you know, him losing the clubhouse, Like I'm not against
- 10:52the firing. I just all of us baseball fans
- 10:58are just waiting for the Pirates to put their foot in the ground
- 11:02and commit to a direction. And I don't feel like just
- 11:06having interim bench coach fill the role does that.
- 11:10It's more the same if they go on some type of run, if they end up
- 11:15having a competitive season, that's great.
- 11:17But like I everyone is just ready for this.
- 11:21We want this, I want this. This is, you know, again, we're
- 11:24we're in a a group chat with a die hard pirates fan and and
- 11:29Josh and, and he has his own podcast that covers the the
- 11:31pirates that he knows a ton about this team and he he's
- 11:34like. This this is a classic.
- 11:37OG baseball franchise like this is like and everything is set up
- 11:44everything. It's an incredible sports city.
- 11:47It's in a it's a top tier ballpark, top tier uniforms and
- 11:51color scheme. You have a thirsty fan base like
- 11:55everything is poised, everything is right there.
- 11:59There are so many franchises and baseball and other sports in
- 12:03general that like that don't have all of those boxes checked
- 12:07that have been more successful. And it's just it's brutal to
- 12:12watch this. And it's getting to the point
- 12:15where it's like it's it's embarrassing.
- 12:19And no pressure on Don Kelly. I don't expect him to come save
- 12:23the day. I don't think any Pirates fan
- 12:25does. We're like, dude, like just do
- 12:30something right, Fire somebody who at the top sell, just change
- 12:37completely fold your cards and ask for a new hand because this
- 12:43is like, we got to burn everything down and start over
- 12:48and firing your manager isn't going to change anything.
- 12:54I'm tired with this team of saying, hey, remember that wild
- 13:03card game back in 2013? Remember how electric that was?
- 13:07How cool, how how great would it be if we could see that again in
- 13:10Pittsburgh? I'm tired of saying that.
- 13:13I'm over it. Do those are those things still
- 13:17true to me? Yes.
- 13:18Like I, I think it would be phenomenal for baseball,
- 13:22phenomenal for that city if we could see post season baseball
- 13:25in Pittsburgh at PNC Park. But unless something changes,
- 13:33we're going to, we're going to sound like a broken record for
- 13:36years and years and years unless something changes.
- 13:39And that's not dramatic. That's they're they're a handful
- 13:42of teams across baseball that until they sell, nothing is
- 13:47going to change. Because we've said it before
- 13:50with the Pittsburgh Pirates, you were essentially A feeder team
- 13:54for the rest of Major League Baseball.
- 13:56And that's already the that that conversation took place when
- 13:59they drafted Paul Skeens. Forget about now like that's
- 14:03that's conversation been going on for a year plus is who's he
- 14:09going to end up with when he inevitably hits the road?
- 14:13Because they, they're, they sure they, they, they'll, they'll
- 14:17throw out a, a, a mediocre contract for their standard.
- 14:21Or I mean, it's, I guess it's a great contract for their
- 14:24standards, but in terms of contracts across baseball,
- 14:28across that landscape, mediocre at best.
- 14:30When you look at these, you know, Brian Hayes, Brian
- 14:35Reynolds type contracts like, OK, good for you.
- 14:38And I, I don't, I mean, I don't want to walk it back too much.
- 14:42I think we we at least praise the pirates for spending some
- 14:46like some money, but at the end of the day that is not going to
- 14:50get it done like you are. Nothing at the macro level is
- 14:54going to change if that's all that you're willing to commit
- 14:57to. Yeah, for sure, for sure.
- 15:00I it makes me wonder not to go like, like too far off on a on a
- 15:05tangent with this, not to like always tie the Yankees into it.
- 15:13But they were having a discussion on the broadcast the
- 15:15other day where they were talking about like, will we see
- 15:20like a reconfiguration of how baseball is set up?
- 15:24Because it was talking about like rain delays and how when
- 15:27you have these interleague matchups, like the you're almost
- 15:30forced to get these games in through brutal weather because
- 15:36it's interleague. And when are you going to meet
- 15:38up again, right? And so the discussion is like,
- 15:40OK, well, the chances are it's probably not going to be until
- 15:43there's an expansion and to bump it up to 32 teams instead of 30,
- 15:48that allows you to have, you know, 4 divisions, four teams
- 15:52each. And maybe you shake things up.
- 15:55And my whole point to this is, is like, it's no offense to the
- 15:59Cubs or the Cardinals or the Reds or the Brewers.
- 16:03But if there is some type of reshift and you have the Pirates
- 16:12now in a division with like the Red Sox or the Yankees or the
- 16:17Mets or the Phillies, where there's this these juggernaut
- 16:22franchises, like, is that a prime position to sell?
- 16:26Is that a prime? Like, it's never going to get
- 16:29better than this? Will the owner finally get out
- 16:31of the way? Will ownership finally just say,
- 16:34just hear the keys and and now you have the viewership of all
- 16:39of these massive fan bases. Now you have the attendance of
- 16:43all of these traveling fans, right?
- 16:45Like does that help boost some stuff?
- 16:49If there's a complete reshift, which I, I'm in the camp that I
- 16:53believe it's coming, I think there's a massive reshift.
- 16:57You're going to see forever teams that have been in the NL
- 17:00for forever shifting and vice versa for the AL.
- 17:04You're going to have divisions completely shaken up.
- 17:07And I think with how jam packed the Northeast is, I don't think
- 17:12the Pirates are going to end up in a similar situation playing
- 17:15in the central. I think they're going to be
- 17:16merged in with some of these huge organizations that have a
- 17:20lot more pull, that have a lot more attraction.
- 17:24And I, I wouldn't be surprised if that was like the right time
- 17:29to sell, especially if you are then seeing some type of salary
- 17:34floor introduced in this new art, this new agreement or, you
- 17:38know, some new threshold that has to be met in order to
- 17:41receive revenue sharing. It's a long winded thought, but
- 17:45it's something to consider that, you know, maybe that's.
- 17:47All. The Pirates fans have to look
- 17:50forward to is that it's just a complete reshift in how we've
- 17:54are seeing baseball and how it could change some of these
- 17:57bottom tier teams. And it sucks calling them a
- 18:00bottom tier team because I think it's an incredible franchise
- 18:03with a lot of history and again, has every box checked except
- 18:08who's running the ship. Well, let's talk about a guy
- 18:15you'd talk to, possibly expansion.
- 18:19Let's talk about a guy that's not going to be there whenever
- 18:21that happens. Paul Skeens, as I mentioned,
- 18:24this was a this was one of the topics I wanted to cover before
- 18:29this news even dropped. But his last start, which I
- 18:33believe was what, Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday you need.
- 18:42Yeah, Tuesday against the Cardinals.
- 18:46Not not great against the against the Cardinals.
- 18:52He's Owen for let me rephrase, he's he's been good against the
- 19:02Cardinals, but maybe for his standards, what he has shown
- 19:07against the rest of the league, not his, not his best, but it
- 19:12all feeds into a much larger point in the fact that he gets
- 19:16his zero run support. But against the Cardinals, who
- 19:19he made his last start against, is Owen, 4, with a 276 ERA, 36
- 19:27strikeouts and five starts. Yeah.
- 19:34He has seven losses, according to Codify Codify, Codify 7
- 19:41losses and 31 starts. Four of those have come against
- 19:45the Cardinals. But as I mentioned, a much a
- 19:51much larger conversation that that's going on right now, I
- 19:54believe and people are aware of, I would think if you've been, if
- 19:58you've been following Paul Skein's career to this point,
- 20:01his rather rather short but exceptional career, no run
- 20:08support, no run support, just this season alone.
- 20:15And again, I know, I know wins and losses matter not to people.
- 20:19I get that. But his earned run game log from
- 20:25the Just this season alone, he's given up two runs in order.
- 20:30Two runs, zero runs, five runs, one run, two runs, zero runs,
- 20:40three runs and two runs. He is 3 and 4 on the air.
- 20:49How many, how many starts has he had in his career?
- 20:573131, no. Excuse me?
- 21:00Yeah, 31, Yeah, that's what I said earlier. 7 losses and 31
- 21:04starts for those being against the Cardinals.
- 21:14The look, the reality is, is this year he hasn't.
- 21:16It's not good. Man, he has.
- 21:18He hasn't looked the same this season.
- 21:21Yeah, I don't think it's clicked yet.
- 21:23It it's not as sharp as he was last year.
- 21:27He's still been very good though.
- 21:28That's what I'm saying like outside of that, I think that
- 21:31that fart start five runs. I think that came against the
- 21:35Cardinals. No, pretty sure.
- 21:37Pretty sure they handed him that if I'm not mistaken but.
- 21:45It's it's giving me Jacob degrom Mets vibes.
- 21:49Very much so, very much so. And you don't have to dig.
- 21:52You don't have to dig very deep to to find that comp that like
- 21:55it's it's pretty much right in your face.
- 21:56It's like, OK, this is just what this is going to be the
- 22:00narrative of his career as long as he's in Pittsburgh can.
- 22:04You run me through those numbers again.
- 22:05I want to hear them again. His earned run logs.
- 22:09Yeah, no, just like yeah, during this, this.
- 22:13How many runs he's allowed during his starts this year?
- 22:16Yeah, yeah. No, no, no with the against the
- 22:19Cardinals. Against the Cardinals, he's Owen
- 22:224 in his career with an ERA of 27636 strikeouts in five starts.
- 22:33So he's Owen four and five starts, but he has an ERA of
- 22:37276. Your guy.
- 22:43It makes you wonder, man. It makes you wonder.
- 22:45Your guy Justin Havens put out a tweet.
- 22:49The Nugget chef, he said Paul Skeens is year over year drop in
- 22:52strikeout rate 33.1 to 24.7. Is the third largest in Major
- 22:58League Baseball from last season to this season.
- 23:01Minimum 125 innings. Pitched I don't, I'm not, I'm
- 23:05not too concerned. I my biggest concern is, and I
- 23:13hate that they may not just ever in for now in the modern era of
- 23:19what we know about the Pirates to get out from underneath the
- 23:22cloud of mismanaging pitchers and having names in their
- 23:29organization that like go on to shine.
- 23:32And this is one of the first names that was almost like
- 23:38pirate proof skills wise, you know what I mean?
- 23:41Like so, so good that even the pirates can't mess this kid up.
- 23:47Then it makes you wonder if that's starting to happen.
- 23:50Like you, you got to have that thought in the back of your
- 23:52mind. And at the same time you're
- 23:55like, oh, he's fine. It's early.
- 23:57You know, he just he hasn't got all things clicking yet.
- 24:01And he could very well just go on this stretch of just being
- 24:04dominant. And I just I'm curious and if
- 24:07there's Pirates fans, Josh, if you're in the chat, let me know.
- 24:11But like, I would like to know if he's calling his own pitches,
- 24:18if if he has a certain catcher, if they're calling these pitches
- 24:24is like, is the philosophy working?
- 24:28Like all of these things have to be wondered.
- 24:32It's not just about like, OK, is he getting around support?
- 24:36How's the defense behind him? It's also about like, is the
- 24:40pitch with sequencing making sense?
- 24:43Is he attacking hitters the same way he did last year?
- 24:48Is the philosophy the reason why?
- 24:51You know what I mean? Like.
- 24:53I mean, if they make a shift, which I I kind of hope that this
- 24:58conversation is taking place with Paul Schemes, figure out a
- 25:02way to enable him to go deeper in games.
- 25:05Like even if it means dialing it back just a tad just to enable
- 25:10him to go deeper into games and give us more each outing on
- 25:15average. I hope that's happening because
- 25:19I, this is a guy that I, to your point, Pirate proof, But I also
- 25:24think this guy is like, to put it a different way, current
- 25:29state of Major League Baseball proof where we're seeing this
- 25:33shift in, in dialing starting pitching, like devaluing
- 25:37starting pitching, emphasizing the importance of, of bullpen
- 25:42efficiency. I, I think this is a guy that
- 25:47kind of turns his nose to that and says I'm, I'm, I'm taking
- 25:51the old, I'm, yeah, I was going to say I'm taking the old school
- 25:54route. I'm going to give you a 7-8 if I
- 25:57can. And I just hope that, you know,
- 25:59not putting him in any sort of situation where he gets jammed
- 26:04up health wise in order to force the issue.
- 26:06But I just hope that he's, they have at least the competency,
- 26:10which maybe they don't to develop him to if that's if
- 26:15that's the type of pitcher he is to fully develop that and and
- 26:18just sort of cut him loose. Yeah, that it, it feels like
- 26:23Kent, can the Pirates find a way to get out of his way?
- 26:26That's what it feels like. And you hate to just let like a
- 26:31young pitcher just completely take the reins and say like,
- 26:33he's going to call his own pitches and then he can pull the
- 26:36whole, you know, pitch com on his belt kind of thing where
- 26:39he's he's making the calls were like, maybe it is that way.
- 26:44I don't know, I don't know. But here's a promise that I'd
- 26:48I'd think we should make is that since we just spent 25 minutes
- 26:52on the freaking Pirates, I, I think we don't talk about them
- 26:56again until there's like a 10 game-winning streak.
- 26:59How's that? Yeah, I'm with you.
- 27:10I'm sick of it, man. Unless Paul's.
- 27:12Yeah, unless weak, by the way. Like kid, young guy jumping off
- 27:17the freaking wall you got. Dude, it's crazy.
- 27:21It's just Pittsburgh right now. It's nuts it's going on.
- 27:25Crazy. Let's not talk about the
- 27:27pirates. They.
- 27:27Just traded. If they're Steelers fans, they
- 27:29just traded George Twicken's away.
- 27:31Like I saw that. What is happening in Pittsburgh?
- 27:37Yeah. All right, that's enough.
- 27:43Let's yeah. I mean, unless skeins twirls,
- 27:48APG or something kind of out, kind of, yeah, kind of out.
- 27:56Let's let's, let's switch gears here.
- 27:59Let's let's talk about some some guys that have been tearing it
- 28:06up. Let's talk Freddie Freeman, the
- 28:18first recipient of this week's credit cannon.
- 28:23Nate, did you know his last 50 ABS coming into today?
- 28:30Wait, who we talking about? Freddie Freeman, Frederick.
- 28:34OK, last 50 ABS. You got to guess on what he's
- 28:41hitting his last 50 ABS Nick. I won't look, I won't look.
- 28:44Last 50 4/15 close higher. 440 over his last 50 ABS, he's got
- 29:05four home runs, 18 ribby, seven walks and an OPS at a clip of
- 29:131289. Decent.
- 29:16That's that's worthy of a credit cannon.
- 29:24Not to move off of Freddie so fast, but I'm particularly
- 29:27excited to to crown this next individual as the next recipient
- 29:35of said credit cannon. Nate, would you do the honors?
- 29:39Is this the top cannon of the week?
- 29:40Would you say that? Given just the trajectory of his
- 29:45career, I I'm excited, particularly about this one.
- 29:49Oh, OK. Byron Buxton, he's hitting
- 29:54three. I mean, talk about just a this
- 30:00dude's had a rough go. We'll just say that.
- 30:03Yeah, he's had a rough go. But I tell you what, I'm
- 30:09certainly regretting dropping him in fantasy.
- 30:11I picked him up as a. The ultimate fantasy baseball
- 30:15tease every year. I felt good.
- 30:18I was like, oh, he's swinging it well, but I was like, I'm not
- 30:20going to keep, I'm not going to. I'm not going to jam up my
- 30:25roster and just keep him on for too long because, I mean, it's
- 30:28Byron Buxton at the end of the day.
- 30:29But Byron Buxton said suck it, Kyle.
- 30:33I'm Byron Buxton, so do with that information what you will.
- 30:38And he, I got to say, is killing it.
- 30:40He's hitting 323. This is over his last 15 games,
- 30:44hitting 3/23/20 hits, 6 homers, 16 ribbies, 11 runs scored in an
- 30:52OPS of 1026. That's coming into today on the
- 30:56year. On the year, dude, he's hitting
- 31:01274, nine jacks, 25 ribbies. He's got an OPS plus A133 OK,
- 31:08And you're a big savant guy. I am a big savant.
- 31:13Some say I'm a savant. Lot of red, lot of red and I
- 31:19even found out today. Somebody can correct me if I'm
- 31:22wrong. I'm pretty sure this is factual.
- 31:25Fastest Sprint speed in baseball, which they're.
- 31:34I don't know how that makes sense.
- 31:38I mean, it makes sense. It makes sense, but it doesn't
- 31:43make sense. Can we confirm this?
- 31:46Is this what I heard? Too.
- 31:48That's what I'm. Saying hold on, let's.
- 31:52I don't want to just like, spew even.
- 31:57With the Simpson Kid in in Tampa.
- 31:59That's what I'm saying. It's.
- 32:00Faster than him, it's faster. Bobby Witt.
- 32:02Byron Buck OK, here we go. According to TL Schwartz on
- 32:08Twitter, Ted. TL Schwartz Was that the feel
- 32:12like that was the name of the toy store that Kevin McAllister
- 32:16broke into in Home Alone 2? We'll go with it.
- 32:19He said Byron Buxton's 30.2 foot per second Sprint speed is the
- 32:23fastest in baseball. It's his personal best since
- 32:262019. So he's he went on to say in his
- 32:29tweet, Bobby Witt junior is there with him, but seven years
- 32:32younger. So the healthy Buxton is
- 32:34amazing. Yeah, but his his savant, I mean
- 32:38the the base running value 100 his hard hit percentage 98th
- 32:45percentile bat speed for how old you say he is 3131 is 88th
- 32:52percentile barrel percentage 91. I'm just as broken as him
- 33:01physically too. Now now in a lot with a lot less
- 33:05money in your bank account. A lot less.
- 33:08Hold on. I need to.
- 33:09Am I? I'm not older than him too.
- 33:11There's no way. Hold on.
- 33:14That's right, we're officially. There's no way.
- 33:21There is no way. I'm older than Byron Buxton.
- 33:25I you could have given me, yeah, 100 names of like, are you older
- 33:31than this guy or are you younger?
- 33:32This guy, like at the top of that list, I'm saying we'll get
- 33:36Byron Buxton out of here. I know for sure he's older than
- 33:39me not to be. Yep, Yep.
- 33:42I am Saab. I'm three months older.
- 33:52No, I'm. I'm out.
- 33:54All right. This is good.
- 33:55This was fun, I'll I'll catch you later.
- 33:58Yeah, Yep. You know what, You know what I
- 34:02like so far that's depressing about this situation is that I
- 34:09wanted to look up the amount of games he's DH over the last few
- 34:15years. So 20/22 he had 35 games at DH,
- 34:2420/23 at 80 games at DH 2024, which he played 102 games last
- 34:34year, more than I would have guessed, still not great, but
- 34:37more than I would have guessed. He only DH 6 times so far, none
- 34:43this year. So I wonder if they're just
- 34:46starting to just like, you know what like you can't, you can't
- 34:51just keep this guy in a cage. You can't just, you know, keep
- 34:55him in a bubble like he's going to play the way he plays.
- 34:58We have to utilize his, his his skill set and his tools.
- 35:02Like let, let's just let him go. Let him play.
- 35:05If he gets hurt, he gets hurt. That's kind of how it has to be.
- 35:09And for him to be Byron Buxton, I feel like that's the way he
- 35:13needs to play. That's the that's the type of
- 35:15environment he needs to be in. He can't.
- 35:18If the team's looking at me like I need to worry about my glass
- 35:21bones, then I'm going to worry about my glass bones.
- 35:25But if my team just says, you know what?
- 35:27You do you, and now this is what you get.
- 35:31So as baseball fans, let's just hope he doesn't break anything.
- 35:37You know, this kind of makes me think last year, if you recall,
- 35:44in fact, let me confirm how many starts he had because Tyler
- 35:48Glass now, obviously a different situation, different side of the
- 35:51ball. But if you recall last year, he
- 35:55had gotten hurt, but leading out like before that injury even
- 35:59happened, before he hit the shelf, I said going into the
- 36:04year, I was like, all right, you're with the Dodgers now.
- 36:08You don't need to, you don't need to push your limits.
- 36:11You don't need to be something more than you are.
- 36:14If you're Tyler glassed out, you can give me, and I'm pretty sure
- 36:17I threw out like 20 starts. I was like, if you can give me
- 36:2120 starts, I'll call this season a success.
- 36:24And he put up a three, four, 9 / 22 starts.
- 36:29And I was like, you know, because I'm, I'm pretty sure you
- 36:31hit the shelf later. It was on the the the back end
- 36:35of his year. Yeah, because he didn't.
- 36:37Pitch in the postseason, right? Right, yeah, and and Dodgers
- 36:40fans like, oh, are you kidding me again with the injuries?
- 36:43And I'm like, you got 22 starts out of him and.
- 36:47I think you just need to, like, shift our mindset and
- 36:49expectations, yeah. For guys like this, Byron
- 36:52Buxton's the same thing. I I mean, I don't, I mean,
- 36:55what's like a number that we could say like, hey, if you, if
- 36:58you can give us this many games and at the very least give us a
- 37:03chance to compete for a postseason spot.
- 37:06But then, you know, it is what it is.
- 37:09He played, you said he played 102 last year, which was just
- 37:12the second time in his career. Dear Lord, man.
- 37:22I mean, I hate to say it but like, not.
- 37:23Played any games? I hate to say it, but like if
- 37:27you can give us 100 again, like I, I think that's you kind of,
- 37:32you know, I said 20 for glass now last year.
- 37:34If you can give us 100 as a as an outfielder this year, that
- 37:38would be in my eyes a win. OK.
- 37:40Let's do this. I mean, he hit 279 with 18
- 37:46homers last year, but he's he's on pace for a better year this
- 37:50year. What?
- 37:53OK, this doesn't account for 2020's weird season.
- 38:00He's averaging like 70 seven games a year before this year.
- 38:10That's not good. I don't think I really, yeah.
- 38:13And that's not like perfect math because I'm not going to take
- 38:15out that year and then fix that. But he's only cracked 100 games
- 38:20twice in his career. Yeah, I mean, I'm, I'm not, it's
- 38:25not perfect math, I'm sure, but you're probably not far off
- 38:27because, I mean, the game lost. I think 100, I think 100 games,
- 38:32dude. That's unfortunately what we
- 38:35like. The way you see glass now with
- 38:3622 starts, I think we got to see.
- 38:39Like a. 100 you see Byron Buxton with 100 games.
- 38:42And I'd be happy he hit. A36 war last year, which is like
- 38:47positive. He had a 136 OPS plus an 859 OPS
- 38:55like I. You'll take that, right?
- 39:01Yeah. I mean it sucks like you, you
- 39:04wish you had more. Well, I mean, look, he's going
- 39:07to impact the game. So with, with a guy like Byron
- 39:09Buxton, it's just the availability.
- 39:11That's all I care about. Like it's not a matter of like,
- 39:13well, will you take this? Will you take that?
- 39:15Like just give me, just give me availability and we'll and we'll
- 39:18figure out a way to to have you impact the game.
- 39:20Are do you have a stats pulled over right now?
- 39:22Yeah. Can you close them without
- 39:25looking at them? Yeah.
- 39:27Hopefully you didn't see this number.
- 39:29Do you want to know how many stolen bases he has in his
- 39:32career? There's probably not very many.
- 39:36The The best Sprint speed in baseball has a hundred stolen
- 39:40bases in his career. This is his 11th season.
- 39:45The fastest guy in baseball has a 100 stolen bases in 11 years.
- 39:53That's crazy. So it's not even like they're
- 39:56like, it's not even like it's happening.
- 40:02I don't understand this. This is broken.
- 40:04This is a broken baseball reference page.
- 40:09I'm lost. But good on the cannon.
- 40:11Good on the cannon. Not to not to poop on that more
- 40:15than what we just did. Let's bring it back to some
- 40:17positivity. Speaking of the cannon, next on
- 40:23the list, another guy that I was excited to get to because, well,
- 40:27I'd picked him up in fantasy and made the smart move to actually
- 40:30hang on to him. The old fantasy bias.
- 40:33Javier Baez. Can we talk about Javier and
- 40:37this like jokes aside about the whole fantasy thing, can we like
- 40:40talk for a minute about like what Javier Baez has been doing
- 40:44this season? And I think we can, you can
- 40:47almost single handedly credit the move to the outfield like
- 40:52that. That's the only thing that's
- 40:55really, but like that's the only shake up that we've that's
- 41:00really taken place here. There's a slight mechanical
- 41:03thing that looks a little different hitting ones.
- 41:05But to this extent that there has the biggest adjustment,
- 41:09yeah, this has there like this has been the greatest or or most
- 41:15impactful mental shift, I guess you could say, because like a
- 41:18mechanical thing can do wonders, but completely changing where
- 41:23you play as a position player has to impact you even more.
- 41:27I would, I would venture to say in his case, but his last 15
- 41:32games he's hitting 333, which comes out to 18 hits, 3 homers,
- 41:4114 RBIs, 12 runs scored, and an OPS of 942 over his last 15.
- 41:48And that's coming into today. They I, they just, I think they
- 41:50just wrapped up the first game of the double header I saw.
- 41:55I didn't look at stats. Yeah, I saw he had a knock in an
- 41:57RBI today. I don't know what else.
- 41:58Yeah, a little bloop. Little bloop in the right, I
- 42:00believe. Little RBI single if I recall.
- 42:03Whiner in the books. Keeping it going.
- 42:05But he's, I mean. He's playing a good center field
- 42:08too. It's not just like a, it's not
- 42:12like a below average performance like.
- 42:14No, I mean he's. He's he looks really good out
- 42:16there. He's a crazy athlete, dude.
- 42:18He he is. I was going to say the
- 42:19athleticism is there. He is currently riding a
- 42:25123456788 game hitting streak. There you go.
- 42:31Actually, hold on, maybe if he's showing up in the book as
- 42:37having, oh, that was a double header against the OS.
- 42:42So it actually actually it might be a little more than that,
- 42:46might be 9 or so because it looks like he just didn't play
- 42:49in the second game. So tack, maybe tack on another
- 42:52to that. So he I mean he's approaching at
- 42:56near double digit hit streak so stricken together quite a
- 43:00stretch right now. Yeah, I feel like he's one of
- 43:02those guys that like, if you can just get any ounce of confidence
- 43:05back, he can. He can, if he can look in the
- 43:08mirror again and be like yes. He feeds off of that.
- 43:12I'm back just a little bit. This is what you get.
- 43:17This is productive, man. This is like, no, it's not.
- 43:21You get a lot, a lot taller hill to climb to live up to the
- 43:24contract. But like, hey, if you're a Tiger
- 43:28fan, you'll take this, you know? On the years, hitting 313, three
- 43:33homers, OPS plus A 137 is already accumulated a WAR of
- 43:381.5, which it's got to be more than the last.
- 43:46Three years combined, not because he plays.
- 43:50He plays pretty solid defense so.
- 43:52Well, yeah, the -1.1 last year a .8.
- 43:56Wait, wait, let's do the math. Let's do the math.
- 43:58Hold on, read them all. Right, Yeah, let's find, let's
- 44:00find the the breaking point here.
- 44:02OK, so. 20 - 1.1 What else you got?
- 44:06OK, so I think the cut off's going to be 2021 because he had
- 44:09a four three that year with because that's when the the
- 44:12trade went down from Chicago to the Mets.
- 44:17So the we'll say 2022 to 2024 he had a 2.4, a .8 and a -1.1.
- 44:29It's a 2.1. He's already almost totaled.
- 44:34He's already almost totaled the war of his previous three
- 44:36seasons. So and if he stays in.
- 44:38Quite a year for another 20-30 games, he's probably there.
- 44:42What a start to the year for for him, Mr. Baez moving right along
- 44:47here, Nathan Ivaldi of the Texas Rangers.
- 44:54His last four starts have been exceptional.
- 44:58He's tallied 29 strikeouts over his last four starts.
- 45:03He's gone 6 innings on the dot in every one of those four
- 45:08starts against, let's be honest, quality teams, the Red Sox, the
- 45:13A's, the Giants and the Dodgers. Say what you will about the A's,
- 45:18but they're they're hanging around in the early goings of
- 45:22the season. 29 strikeouts over those four, those four starts,
- 45:28he's only allowed four earned runs in that stretch and is
- 45:32managing traffic well. I mean, he the, he's given up
- 45:36five hits and two of those and a couple of those starts 6 and
- 45:39another three and another. He's only walked two.
- 45:43So he's managing the traffic well given the the relative lack
- 45:48of earned runs, but looking very strong for a team that
- 45:52absolutely needs it on that side of the ball.
- 45:56This is why you bring a guy like this back.
- 45:58This is why you you can trust guys like this in your rotation
- 46:07because the offense is going to have some bad streaks.
- 46:09And we have a guy that says, you know what, I got you offense, I
- 46:13got you pitching staff. Let me do my thing.
- 46:17I'm going to give our team a chance.
- 46:18Like that's that's how things can start to pick up in sparks.
- 46:22So I think we can all look at the Texas Rangers and say that
- 46:26April was not the the Texas Rangers at the end of the year.
- 46:31It's just not what they're going to be, especially offensively.
- 46:35So just get through this valley and it's guys like this to help
- 46:40you lift up. So they're coming.
- 46:42I, I feel like they're coming eventually.
- 46:46And no one's no one's running away with the West.
- 46:50And even if they do, we've seen what the what the Mariners can
- 46:54do when they're running away with it shots.
- 47:01Fired, shots fired. Next up, Chris Sale.
- 47:07I think he may have figured something out.
- 47:10I'm just going to go ahead and say it.
- 47:13I think he may have figured something out.
- 47:16I think. I think you're getting vintage
- 47:20Cy Young Chris Sale back. Uh oh.
- 47:24From here on out, his last two starts, ten punch outs apiece.
- 47:33Decent 13 2/3 Indians over that stretch.
- 47:37Only two earned runs I think. That's what you want.
- 47:44I think he's figured something out and again, talking about a
- 47:47team that that needs all the help they can get as they sort
- 47:51of crawl their way back from a a rough start to the season.
- 47:58The Braves are are loving every bit of what they've seen out of
- 48:01Christie the last two starts and another guy that's looked, hate
- 48:09to say it pretty good last four starts.
- 48:14Carlos Rodin. I think you can speak to this a
- 48:17little bit. 1 of what was it his his last start out right was he
- 48:25had he took a no hit bid or am I am I misremembering he had a no
- 48:30hit bid there for a little bit against the Padres no or am I
- 48:36mistaken? I thought there was 11 outing he
- 48:39had recently where he he had a. Little bit, I mean if you want
- 48:43to call like getting into like the 5th a bid.
- 48:46I thought it was like maybe the 6th but.
- 48:48Yeah, you're probably right. But has looked very good or.
- 48:51I think it was the Orioles. No, because Orioles feeling went
- 48:55six. Yeah.
- 48:57I mean, this is this is a pitching staff that like is is
- 49:03only going to go if if he goes like, you know what?
- 49:07Max Freed has been unreal. Max Freed has been like league
- 49:13leader in multiple pitching categories.
- 49:15So like the depth there has to be followed up with the Carlos
- 49:19Rodon and it kind of feels like he's starting to like figure out
- 49:28his mentality in a way. Like he's just he's kind of a
- 49:31head case man. He's just all over the place and
- 49:34like you don't know who you're going to get.
- 49:37Like you, we've seen like the Super amped up Carlos Rodon who
- 49:41like wears himself out after one time through the order and then
- 49:44looks terrible after that. And this is like the first time
- 49:48I think in pinstripes that you're seeing Carlos Sardon like
- 49:51go quality starts. I mean these are quality starts.
- 49:57Go back to the second in April, 6 innings, 6 innings, 5 and 2
- 50:02thirds, 6766 and 2/3. Like those are those are solid
- 50:07starts. Those are very decent.
- 50:09And even in those April starts, he was getting hit around a
- 50:13little bit, but he's still chewing up innings.
- 50:16And like, that's what these guys have to do.
- 50:19It's not always going to be lights out, you know, 2-3 hits,
- 50:22nowhere in runs. He's keeping the walks down, the
- 50:26strikeouts. I'll give and take.
- 50:28I think when he doesn't fall in love with his slider and overly
- 50:32use the the fastball, like it's just a good mix.
- 50:36Seems like they might have found like the right recipe and and
- 50:40pitch calling. And we'll see if it keeps up.
- 50:43Man, I hope it does. I didn't have, I didn't have
- 50:52originally didn't have plans to mention this on the show today,
- 50:55but they're actually talking about it on MLB Network right
- 50:59now. So maybe it's it's notable
- 51:01because I did, I actually just saw a quote.
- 51:04I think I know what you're going to say.
- 51:06Rafael Devers, it sounds, is officially unwilling to play
- 51:11first base. Not this again.
- 51:16That's, I mean, that's all I can say.
- 51:17Not this again please. Is there a leak in the
- 51:20clubhouse? What is?
- 51:21Happening. Can we not do this again,
- 51:24please? OK, here's here's the quote.
- 51:27Here's the quote. Yeah, that's the thing.
- 51:29We are in the like. Just shut up and go keep.
- 51:32Winning media just eats this up. Granted, he's seems like he's
- 51:36putting his foot in his mouth, he said.
- 51:38Here's the quote, he said. I know I'm a ball player, but at
- 51:41the same time they can't expect me to play every single position
- 51:44out there. In spring training, they talked
- 51:46to me and basically told me to put put away my glove, that I
- 51:49wasn't going to play any other position but DH.
- 51:51So right now I just feel like it's not an appropriate decision
- 51:54by them to ask me to play another position.
- 51:56It was the GM that I spoke with. I'm not sure what he has with
- 51:59me. He played ball and I would like
- 52:01to think he knows that changing positions like that isn't easy.
- 52:05My brother, where do you this this whole they can't expect him
- 52:10to play every position out there Brother DH in the corners.
- 52:15We're not asking you to catch. We're not asking you to play the
- 52:17outfield. We're not asking you to pitch
- 52:19like we're the the Red Sox are paying him how much like 300
- 52:25something and and you're you're throwing a little temper tantrum
- 52:33because they said, well, you're going to be our DHS start and
- 52:36now we've got an we've got an injury.
- 52:38So maybe what you think about playing first base and he's on,
- 52:41well, I can't play everywhere, guys.
- 52:44Come on, dude. Oh boy, the good.
- 52:50News you're making 313 and a half million dollars.
- 52:54What? The good news is, I mean, he's
- 52:59yours until 2033. Which I'm fine with, but like,
- 53:04just stop, stop, stop with the, the posturing and like the
- 53:11little hissy fit and like, I get it.
- 53:15I get it. You don't like you, you want
- 53:17there to be more clarity. But sometimes things happen to
- 53:19where you just got to, you got to step up and be like, all
- 53:23right, I got to take one for the team here.
- 53:25Like you can't just you can't just have this isn't McDonald's,
- 53:28man. You can't or freaking BK can't
- 53:30just have it your way all the time.
- 53:33If you want that, then go to BK, but you're at Fenway Park.
- 53:39Respect. On those chicken fries you're.
- 53:41Love those chicken fries? It's.
- 53:44The only thing I need there. The only reason I would go
- 53:46there, but you're at Fenway Park, Rafi, you can't.
- 53:50You can't. You can't play at Burger King.
- 53:54You can't have it your way all the time.
- 53:57Was this I? I feel like I know the answer to
- 54:00this, but I'm just confirming this was a Heimbloom extension,
- 54:06not your current GM extension, correct or right like the
- 54:09contract was? Pretty.
- 54:11Yeah, Yeah. But I mean, he was the one in
- 54:15the position, but this was ultimately a John Henry move
- 54:18because he's the one that opens up the checkbook for these
- 54:21bigger deals. Heim for sure.
- 54:22Heim was able to to presumably take care of these these smaller
- 54:27deals on his own, when John Henry probably didn't even know
- 54:30that certain guys were being added to the team, but that John
- 54:34Henry was very much familiar with.
- 54:39This is weird, man, because like if they have any hopes of of
- 54:42keeping Bregman, like this story isn't going to go away if he
- 54:46doesn't shut up. I I it's very odd.
- 54:53It's really odd to like still have this good for the reporters
- 55:00on like understanding. Go back to this well and you're
- 55:03going to get an answer. It's like clicks.
- 55:05Man, you'd think at this point it would be just dead in the
- 55:08water. Don't even bring it up.
- 55:10But like he keeps feeding them, man, he keeps feeding them.
- 55:15It's crazy. It really is like I I get it
- 55:18around like the causes injury and like now this is back in the
- 55:22discussion or potentially the cards are are back on the table.
- 55:25But like there's a lot of they in that in that.
- 55:30Quote which is scary. Yep, exactly.
- 55:34That's scary. What a mess.
- 55:37No trade clause. Let me see, I had the contract
- 55:41already pulled up a mess. Dude like step up and just help
- 55:47the team out. Dude, like yeah, I don't see.
- 55:50Any like you're good. I, I've said it before, I don't
- 55:54want this to turn into like a Rafi Devers slander fest as this
- 55:59story continues to progress, but like, like you're good and I'm
- 56:05glad, I'm glad you wear the jersey that you do, no doubt.
- 56:09But like you're talking an awful lot for a guy that I just, I
- 56:18don't think has the the the pull in his career just yet to be
- 56:25able to do I I just don't. It's a very strange situation
- 56:32because like, you look at his career, he's already, he's
- 56:38already been in the league for nine years.
- 56:40Yeah, that's crazy. He's 28.
- 56:44He hasn't. I mean, which is I'm not saying
- 56:46this, this isn't intended, but I can knock on the guy because
- 56:49like the numbers he's put up have been good, very
- 56:52respectable, but like, he hasn't cracked 40 homers the last. 3100
- 56:56guy. The last time he came close to
- 56:58knocking on the door was 2021, an All Star season.
- 57:01He had 38. But like, if you, it's unfair to
- 57:07maybe put him in this kind of conversation.
- 57:08But if you look at what Aaron Judge is doing, it's like, OK,
- 57:11that's a guy that can can have the pole should he want to have
- 57:16the pole. But as as a guy that's talking
- 57:20the way Rafael Devers is talking, you'd think he's a 4120
- 57:24guy. I'm.
- 57:26Going to be honest with you man, I I don't listen to our podcasts
- 57:33after they come out, but I might just replay what you said over
- 57:42and over again for a while. That's nice that you're just
- 57:45comparing situations like this though.
- 57:48Am I wrong it Rafael Devers is talking as if he's if he has the
- 57:57pole of an Aaron Judge and he's like, yeah, is he?
- 58:01Is he? It's weird to say face to the
- 58:07franchise because he he's just not a very like forward facing
- 58:11guy. He's a guy that just likes to
- 58:12show up, mash homers and go home.
- 58:16So it's it's weird for me to say face the franchise, but like,
- 58:21sure, you can slot him into that role.
- 58:24But yes, in the chat, he's no big poppy.
- 58:26He's talking like he's big Poppy and he's just not.
- 58:30And he needs to be better about especially considering you.
- 58:34You finally have a team organized in a fashion that
- 58:38could make it to the post season, something they haven't
- 58:40done in. Years and off to a good start
- 58:43like and you're pretty well. You're continuing to put your
- 58:46foot in your mouth by saying, oh, I'm unwilling to do this.
- 58:49I'm I'm willing to do that. Honestly, I think that quote
- 58:51that I just read off, I think that's he was, he was waiting
- 58:55for an opportunity with the way he felt he was treated with the
- 58:58whole third basing. The second cost just went down
- 59:01like a bag of dirt. He was he.
- 59:03That quote was already spent. He was waiting for it and he was
- 59:06sitting on it, which is just, that's just gross.
- 59:11Anyway, I don't want to talk about it anymore.
- 59:14Let's let's close the book here. TE Oscar Hernandez to the IL got
- 59:20a we got a couple groin issues here.
- 59:24What the heck? I didn't even connect the dots.
- 59:27TE Oscar to the IL with the Grade 1 groin strain.
- 59:30And it was just announced minutes ago that I think Hunter
- 59:35Green's officially on the shelf with a right groin injury.
- 59:42Rough week for the Groins Clip that out of context.
- 59:51Yeah. Tay Oscar, it's.
- 59:53Possibly a name that quote this offseason.
- 59:55That's a good one. Rough week for the Groins, Tay
- 59:59Oscar and Hunter Green. TIL Dodgers can can certainly
- 1:00:03afford that that. Shock to the system, not really
- 1:00:10much of A shock. They're they'll be fine.
- 1:00:12They'll manage. They're playing very well.
- 1:00:13But the Reds you you hope that hunter green can bounce back.
- 1:00:18He was he was off to I think the the start he got pulled from he
- 1:00:21was off to a pretty good start. He had I think yeah, 6
- 1:00:24strikeouts through three. So just continue to show more
- 1:00:29that dominance that he's really shown for the majority of the
- 1:00:32season thus far. So you hope he can bounce back
- 1:00:35for a Reds team that let's check in as of today, second place at
- 1:00:42500 behind the Cubs, just three games.
- 1:00:46I know it's early, but I was I was propping.
- 1:00:52See if they can handle it. I was propping up the Reds
- 1:00:55coming into this year, don't you forget.
- 1:00:57Yeah, this. Could be.
- 1:00:59This could be your Royals of last year.
- 1:01:02Pretty sure I made that exact comment.
- 1:01:05Yeah. That's some good recall right
- 1:01:07there. I am still still working up here
- 1:01:11at the age of 32, at the completion of 32.
- 1:01:17It's so depressing to say. I my take, I say, I mean, we've
- 1:01:22had some good conversation today, but my take away from
- 1:01:25this whole thing is the fact that we're both older than Byron
- 1:01:28Buxton, which I'd, I, I need to, I really need to reach out to
- 1:01:32baseball reference and ensure that that's, that's not a typo,
- 1:01:35because I think it is. I need to double check and make
- 1:01:38sure they're on top of their their their PS and QS because
- 1:01:42this I mean, you just look at Byron Bucks and you're like,
- 1:01:46this guy is pushing 40 and he's. 31 Yeah, his body is probably.
- 1:01:56Body's pushing pushing 60. Last note here.
- 1:02:00Baltimore Orioles this suck, this made me, this just made me
- 1:02:05so mad. I'm like, they're they're
- 1:02:07unrelated, but just the timing of it couldn't have been more
- 1:02:11comical. The According to Matt Weyrich on
- 1:02:17Twitter, the Maryland Stadium Authority has approved the
- 1:02:20Orioles plans for the upgraded scoreboard in center field they
- 1:02:25say will be the 12th largest in Major League Baseball, which I
- 1:02:29don't know why that's noteworthy.
- 1:02:30That's like 12 middle, middle of the pack.
- 1:02:34I guess he's just given sort of some comparison there as to
- 1:02:41where it stacks up. 12th largest Major League Baseball upon its
- 1:02:44completion this offseason and renderings have been released.
- 1:02:49Look again, I'll say it again that I know they're unrelated,
- 1:02:53but you're not upgrade. You're making plans to upgrade
- 1:02:57the scoreboard before you're making plans to upgrade your
- 1:03:01pitching staff. And that, to me, is the
- 1:03:06Baltimore Orioles of 2025 in a nutshell.
- 1:03:12We need to have Ryan on. So it's just, it's just the
- 1:03:18elimination of the like signs that are going around.
- 1:03:22It's just going all screen basically.
- 1:03:24So it is like the same size, just more screen.
- 1:03:27They they may expand it, but yeah, to your point, it's it's
- 1:03:29gonna be gonna be a lot of screen, a lot of pixels.
- 1:03:34Who cares? I don't.
- 1:03:36And that's entirely the point. That's the point.
- 1:03:39That's why I wanted to make note of it is because we're talking
- 1:03:42about things like this with the Orioles and not talking about
- 1:03:46starting pitching or pitching, yeah, at all.
- 1:03:53What a mess. They're also doing like the like
- 1:03:58attractions outside of the stadium kind of set up soon,
- 1:04:02right? Yeah, I think I saw that there's
- 1:04:04a lot of parks that are making plans just to take their stab at
- 1:04:08like the the battery. If this one makes a lot of sense
- 1:04:11though, because it's so close to where the Ravens play.
- 1:04:13So it's like I could see something right in between those
- 1:04:17two. A little something, something
- 1:04:19instead of a parking lot. But yeah, I don't know.
- 1:04:22Like, this is just not what needs to be talked about right
- 1:04:25now. This is not this doesn't help
- 1:04:28the cover up of of how bad this team is.
- 1:04:31Look, this year, let's have Ryan on soon.
- 1:04:35Let's shoot him a text so your team sucks.
- 1:04:37We need you to come on here and bend.
- 1:04:39Lauren in the chat says we do need to get Ryan on but he'll
- 1:04:42just say the O's are fine. She's not.
- 1:04:44Wrong. He's he's overly not wrong.
- 1:04:46I need, we need to like tear him down a little bit.
- 1:04:48Yeah, we need, we need to tear him down so that he'll tear his
- 1:04:51team down and then we can start a we can start anew.
- 1:04:54We can, that's right. We can sort of, that's right,
- 1:04:59readjust as we go. I'm waiting.
- 1:05:02I think the next news I need to hear is a Charlie Morton
- 1:05:04retirement. That's the next headline I need
- 1:05:07to hear from from Baltimore. Speaking to Which closing
- 1:05:11thought a congratulations to friend of the pod.
- 1:05:17Like one of the OG friend of the pod Ross trippling, calling it a
- 1:05:22career, hanging up the spikes. I saw that announcement just the
- 1:05:25other day. What a good career, man, Good
- 1:05:31career, good career, good guy and.
- 1:05:34I think he was what maybe like our second or third big leaguer
- 1:05:39that we ever interviewed. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:41Like he was like very early on that we got him.
- 1:05:45He helped us out. See, man, he tried to, like, put
- 1:05:47us into contact with some other guys and yeah, things like that
- 1:05:50was always a help whenever I reached out to him.
- 1:05:53Good. Dude didn't he do He had a
- 1:05:54little podcast at one point didn't he?
- 1:05:57Is he still doing that? Yeah, they they finished or they
- 1:06:00wrap that up I guess a couple years, few years ago at this
- 1:06:04point. But because I think he was just
- 1:06:06trying to focus on what he was doing, but it's possible he
- 1:06:08brings it back, who knows? Yeah, good guy.
- 1:06:11Good, very good career, very solid career.
- 1:06:15That's it's a good, good. What did he put out a tweet,
- 1:06:20right? I guess he put out a.
- 1:06:21Tweet. I think it was Instagram or
- 1:06:23something, but yeah, he. I didn't realize his nickname
- 1:06:26was Chicken Strip. Yeah.
- 1:06:28You remember the player weekend. It was on the back of his
- 1:06:31jersey. That's a good.
- 1:06:32That's a good nickname. He leaned into that hard, and
- 1:06:36for good reason. Yeah, name like that.
- 1:06:38Why? Not solid career.
- 1:06:39Congrats on a good career, Ross. I know you're listening.
- 1:06:44Good guy, good guy. That's all I got.
- 1:06:48That's all I got, man. I'm sure enjoy the rest of your
- 1:06:51birthday. Thanks enjoying everybody in
- 1:06:54chat emails. I'm going to clip that and send
- 1:06:58it to your boss. Everybody in chat wish wish Nate
- 1:07:01a happy birthday. He's he's turning 74 today.
- 1:07:07Feels like it. If you were to ask my knee,
- 1:07:10that's what, that's what it would say. 74 crazy.
- 1:07:17My sister said that the Walker is on the way.
- 1:07:21She said that it's being shipped.
- 1:07:23So it's just tough, you know, it's tough.
- 1:07:27Use if I. Have a gorgeous wife, you know
- 1:07:29what I mean? Like good thing that that helps,
- 1:07:32otherwise I'd have no confidence.
- 1:07:34I texted you this morning the picture of the hat that I'm
- 1:07:37sending your way for your birthday, but it actually is
- 1:07:40going to be a hand rail for to put next to your toilet in the
- 1:07:45bathroom to help you get up. I'd like, I also have stairs, so
- 1:07:48I'd like the chair that goes up and down the stairs with the
- 1:07:50seat belt. Yeah, I think that's important.
- 1:07:54Safety. Safety first, guys.
- 1:07:56Safety first. Yeah, that's all I got.
- 1:08:00As always, people, I'm not going to do it, and you better not
- 1:08:04either. Don't go chasing curveballs.
- 1:08:06Love you all and AS. Always looking forward to
- 1:08:07talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 1:08:09Until next time, stay filthy.
