- 0:15your podcasts, okay? On with the show.
- 0:36Hello and welcome to fraggle, talk a topic podcast where we
- 0:41dive deep through the Fantastical Whimsical.
- 0:43World of Jim. Henson's Fraggle Rock.
- 0:46My name is Beth and I am re-watching for the millionth
- 0:49time. My name is Julia and I re
- 0:51watching after 10 years, my name is Adam and I am watching it for
- 0:56the first time. I'm not going to see any more of
- 0:59that song is copyrights for the first time.
- 1:03Oh, thank you so much for joining us on this journey.
- 1:07This has been a labor of love for me to try to get this off
- 1:11the ground. Yeah I did a book review for
- 1:15Fraggle Rock the ultimate visual history book which is And I've
- 1:21definitely going to be using that a lot to give background
- 1:26info and interesting. Tidbits, I'm wondering what to
- 1:30call it because I'm going to be referring to it a lot and just
- 1:33calling it Fraggle Rock the ultimate Visual History or even
- 1:37just the ultimate Visual History is a very much a mouthful.
- 1:40I'm sure we can come up with like something shorter first
- 1:45have for self-fertile of was thinking of Calling it just the
- 1:50totem. I no joke.
- 1:52I literally was going to just say, you should call it the
- 1:54Tome. So I had great minds, think
- 1:57alike that. So, yeah, I wanted to get these
- 2:03people in particular together, partly, because Julia was the
- 2:06one who first introduced me to tough pigs and I was, you know,
- 2:12kind of admiring her work from afar for a while.
- 2:15And then, so she was one of the only people I knew and acted
- 2:19with. Pigs.
- 2:20I wanted to reach out and go. Hey do you want to maybe work
- 2:23together? And for me like I like I said,
- 2:26in the intro I've seen Fraggle Rock but it's been almost 10
- 2:30years since my last watching of it and it felt overdue for me to
- 2:35to re-explore it and a podcast seemed like a fun way to go
- 2:39about doing that nice holy and for me I grew up on The Muppets.
- 2:43I have always loved the Muppets and I've always been one of the
- 2:46only people I knew who love the Muppets.
- 2:48I've never seen. Fraggle Rock.
- 2:50But as I've mentioned, I love all things Henson and my mom was
- 2:53a professional Puppeteer for a while.
- 2:54So wow. A little bit of an understanding
- 2:57of like, behind the scenes puppetry stuff and some of the
- 2:59mechanics to go into that sort of a thing and some of the
- 3:01practices and that's a delight. That's awesome.
- 3:04That is so cool. Yeah.
- 3:05It's really red. Yeah.
- 3:07So actually, Adam, you and I didn't even know that each other
- 3:11were Muppet nerds for a while. Before we knew each other, we
- 3:15we've been friends for a solid couple of years.
- 3:17Now, did I think I made a Facebook Like, put out a call
- 3:20for, like, Muppet friends, because I really wanted to
- 3:22re-watch the original Muppet movie and you responded.
- 3:25Yeah. Because yeah, we knew each other
- 3:26through the local dancing, but didn't know each other.
- 3:29Super well, was just kind of like, oh, that's a person who
- 3:32seems cool and we have like oh you're the person.
- 3:35I love my jacket too. Exactly.
- 3:37And then you mentioned Muppets and I went oh my God and then I
- 3:41also went. So I'm wondering what either of
- 3:46you have either, you know, heard about the show.
- 3:49As a whole of like how it came about very little, very little,
- 3:57and I heard a fair amount, you know, writing for a tough picks
- 3:59for like the last like decade or so.
- 4:01And having watched it before, you know, it's there's things
- 4:03that have definitely left my mind.
- 4:05I'm sure as we go through I'm gonna ReDiscover and be
- 4:08surprised by things I totally forgotten but you know, I know a
- 4:11fair amount of like Jim Henson's conception of wanting to make a
- 4:15show that would bring about world peace.
- 4:17As I'm sure going to talk a lot about on the spot.
- 4:19Cast. Yep.
- 4:21And like the people behind the scenes in the makings of it.
- 4:23So so that was his intent and making frankly I was one of the
- 4:26yes, yes that's so cool. Yeah.
- 4:30So one of the great things that I found out through reading the
- 4:35Tome, so I'd always known that you know, Jim Henson's goal was
- 4:40to make a show that would end War.
- 4:45What? I didn't know was this guy
- 4:49Duncan Kenworthy, who'd been working on Sesame Street in the
- 4:53international department and then he was basically heading up
- 4:58the Arabic version of Sesame Street, that, that experience
- 5:03gave him. The idea of what if we made an
- 5:07international children show, that was designed from the very
- 5:11beginning to be International. So that for the puppet part, you
- 5:16can dub it into any language and then for the Segments, they can
- 5:21either be dubbed as well, or customized to be like with
- 5:26different actors in each different country.
- 5:28I was wondering why there was so little overlap and I didn't put
- 5:32it in my notes, but I was gonna the like, oh, there's this just
- 5:35like a little bit of off here with the tubs and that's not
- 5:37something I would expect from the Muppets, and it's all, it's
- 5:39because they're universalizing it, that's rad.
- 5:41Yeah, so yeah, I think it ended up being dubbed into I forget
- 5:48how many languages Has like maybe 13:15 something in the
- 5:52teens and then I think only like four or five countries ended up,
- 5:57like picking up the offer of recording their own Dock and
- 6:01sprocket segments. Hmm.
- 6:03So there was maybe some lost potential there, but it was like
- 6:08an incredibly solid idea that no one had done before.
- 6:10So, Jim and Duncan kind of had these separate ideas and that it
- 6:15became this one idea. That's awesome.
- 6:18That's really cool. Looks like the recordings of
- 6:21those like docks and sprockets from other countries are like on
- 6:24YouTube or anything. Cause I know I've seen photos of
- 6:27the different actors but I've never actually, I don't think
- 6:29I've ever seen any footage of the different ones and I was
- 6:32just curious if you've ever read never seen it.
- 6:35Any don't think I've seen, like, the full segment I've seen
- 6:39little Clips, Okay, and like documentaries and nonfiction
- 6:44pieces about Fraggle Rock. Like there was a defunct Land
- 6:47episode on YouTube. About Fraggle Rock.
- 6:50And so I've seen little Clips there, they'll show a clip of
- 6:54the same song recorded and all the different languages was
- 6:57really cute red also and have been learning Spanish, you're
- 7:01making me want to go find the the version of this that was
- 7:03down in Spanish so I can watch it and try to practice.
- 7:06That's a great idea to like find out how much you.
- 7:09Yeah, just understand just understand how little I
- 7:12understand it. Spanish.
- 7:13Yes definitely. I this is my first time
- 7:15experiencing any Fraggle. Rock contact content.
- 7:18The opening theme song. Slaps.
- 7:20The opening theme song is awesome.
- 7:22I absolutely loved it with a baseline came and I was like, oh
- 7:26yeah, heck yeah shouldn't swear. It was really really good.
- 7:30Yeah, hardegree my first note in my notes, is this team song
- 7:35Still slaps in all caps. It's just so solid.
- 7:39It's a jam of its Timeless because the first sentence in -
- 7:43is this theme song slaps. And I'll cat good.
- 7:46I'm glad that we're on the same page.
- 7:48This is a very Good sign. It's just it's Timeless.
- 7:52It's it's such a jam that. Yeah I love it.
- 7:56Still so much to this day. Yeah they brought together this
- 8:00dream team of Dennis Lee, writing the lyrics, Philip
- 8:04Balsam, writing the music and then Don Gillis as the musical
- 8:09director and yeah, we're going to get songs that are ridiculous
- 8:15songs that are catchy and will stick in your head for weeks.
- 8:19That are incredibly poignant and are going to make you cry.
- 8:23Yeah, it's a journey. You know they need they need a
- 8:26great theme song to really be able to draw the audience in and
- 8:30like then expose them to even more amazing music and I think.
- 8:33Yeah. I think this the theme song
- 8:35encapsulates, like a banger of a jam and also like does a really
- 8:40good job. Introducing us like I guess not
- 8:42so much, the actual music itself but the theme in general like
- 8:46does a great job introducing us to the world and all the
- 8:48different creatures that we're going to get to.
- 8:49See, as the show progresses? Yeah, totally.
- 8:52I have it in my notes. The fact that they have like
- 8:55body puppets that get used to establish like a size
- 8:57discrepancy and let us know approximately how big these
- 9:00fraggles are in the world and what other sorts of characters
- 9:03and creatures, they'll sort of like run into and like the fact
- 9:06that there's some sort of animosity between like they you
- 9:09get a lot of detail in this about the world.
- 9:11You're going to be watching stories and totally.
- 9:14Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:14You gotta see the the I mean you see doc and sprocket up top of
- 9:18then you get to see the fraggles.
- 9:19Doozers and the gorgs and yeah like all the size variations and
- 9:23you know kind of get an idea of the yeah the relationships
- 9:26between all the different creatures can we talk about the
- 9:29Dawkins back a bit? Yeah.
- 9:31Please sprocket as a puppet is so awesome.
- 9:36They because so the the way that sprocket is set up as you've got
- 9:40the the to pause and then the head.
- 9:42So that means that there's two people working that because
- 9:45three hands is not a thing. And I love that they were like
- 9:48what What can we get this person to do with their fourth hand?
- 9:51Let's give them a tail to wag. Let's make this even more
- 9:54expressive and the ears can go up.
- 9:57Like, I have that little switch in there.
- 9:59That just the mechanization of making puppets expressive.
- 10:02As one of the coolest things to me and the fact that sprocket
- 10:05can be so very expressive as a dog is very mechanically
- 10:08impressive. Yep.
- 10:10There's even a point later in the episode where you can see
- 10:13sprocket breathing in his chest rising and falling when he's
- 10:16asleep. Wow, it's so sweet.
- 10:20That's super cool. So I gotta ask Beth, if you grew
- 10:23up with this show. Hmm.
- 10:25Did you ever try to sew a button to a fried egg?
- 10:29Not as a kid because that was not a line that I remembered
- 10:34nowadays. You bet I've considered it.
- 10:37I haven't actually tried. It doesn't seem like it'd be
- 10:40that hard. I could definitely see myself.
- 10:44Making one out of like felt And then just wearing it as a patch,
- 10:49that no one understands, except the three.
- 10:53See, I would want to take it a step further, I would just walk
- 10:56around with a fried. Egg pinned to my shirt for just
- 10:58a day, just see what people did, because what do you say to that
- 11:03Miss Manners isn't going to prepare you for that true.
- 11:05Interesting science experiment, what I love about Doc, in this
- 11:10first scene is that, you know, he has that like, okay.
- 11:13Today I finally decided to convert this old deserted Room
- 11:17into a workshop and that is such a mood for like, I am going to
- 11:21start this new project that I've been meaning to start forever.
- 11:24I'm finally doing it. I'm like, hey good for you man
- 11:29and then immediately gets distracted about the thing in
- 11:34his diary was great least. I'm assuming I just I just had a
- 11:37moment of panic like that. I've watched the wrong episode
- 11:41or something it's like wait that that is the right episode,
- 11:46right? The the one with There.
- 11:47He's like talking about sewing a button into the Oh gosh, wait,
- 11:51hold on that. I wish the wrong episode because
- 11:54this going to be, oh, no. Did you watch the wrong episode?
- 11:57I don't remember that. In this first season 1 episode
- 11:591, at least it did when I was the officer called the
- 12:02beginning. No.
- 12:04Oh my God. I watch the preacher vacation of
- 12:06convincing, John. It took us 17 minutes according
- 12:14to real. Well.
- 12:34So, we're back and I've seen the episode now.
- 12:41Have you ever had that moment of like, like anxiety of like, oh
- 12:45god, I've done the wrong thing. I've gone to the wrong address.
- 12:48Well, I lived it and it turns out life goes on.
- 12:51It's like that dream where you're back in school and you
- 12:54didn't study for the test. Well, here's the thing.
- 12:57Like the fried egg thing was brought up in my mind as someone
- 13:00who hasn't watched that episode yet because As I'm going through
- 13:03in chronological order. I was like, what are we talking
- 13:06about? I don't remember this in the
- 13:07episode because I'm not paying attention.
- 13:10I took I took notes and I just went with it because I
- 13:14remembered that moment. And I was like, oh yeah.
- 13:17And then it took me until after we stopped recording to realize.
- 13:20Oh yeah. That wasn't in the first.
- 13:22It was like, yeah, Beth, you were like like talking about it
- 13:25as well. And I was like, okay, I must
- 13:27have just missed this. I don't I don't know.
- 13:29So then it got solved really quickly.
- 13:32I can relate to that so heavily to something that I don't
- 13:35remember happening. Just be like that.
- 13:36Probably happened that I missed it.
- 13:37It's fine. Yeah, you were Beth Beth.
- 13:40You were talking. I guess we can just dive into
- 13:41it. But you were talking about like
- 13:43the the moment of like oh yes I'm gonna finally get around to
- 13:45this project and oh boy right? Yep.
- 13:49Yep I did if I can start a little bit about the intro just
- 13:54like First Impressions. Yeah, they're like Muppets
- 13:58slapstick is always great. The end.
- 14:01This this intro is It's just no exception to that.
- 14:05My two favorite moments, are he goes, don't worry, I'm going to
- 14:08leave my books and that's with you for safekeeping and then
- 14:11just drop, some just full-on drops them on the floor and they
- 14:14just clatter everywhere. Yeah.
- 14:17And the Big Trees, like, freckles move with a dance, like
- 14:20Grace. And then, they just eat a puppet
- 14:22from off-camera. And it's just this beautiful,
- 14:27that whole introduction of traveling, Matt narrating.
- 14:33This is what fraggles are and this is what they're like and
- 14:35saying there. You know, marvelous in the
- 14:38Pinnacle of civilization, Fearless dignified intellectual
- 14:42while we see, you know, someone balancing a tomato on their
- 14:46nose. Someone else, you know sticking
- 14:48their tongue out and it's such a brilliant juxtaposition because
- 14:54a young audience is going to be able to immediately.
- 14:56See the contrast between how we're supposed to see the
- 14:59fraggles and how they see themselves.
- 15:01Yeah, yeah. Yes.
- 15:03Absolutely. Take silliness very seriously as
- 15:06well, we should. Yeah, that is, you can go even
- 15:09deeper into it and be like, but yes, maybe that is what smart
- 15:12and elegant, people do as they decide to just be as goofy and
- 15:14weirdest. They feel like, right?
- 15:16They start podcasts taking deep. Dives into shows that have been
- 15:21off the air for. Oh God.
- 15:23They take exterior extensive notes on the possible
- 15:26ecosystemic, applications of weird.
- 15:28Bits of that show. Bingo.
- 15:31We'll get to that in a bit though.
- 15:33Julia, I wanted to ask what parts of this did you remember
- 15:37when you were watching it? And you were like, oh yeah, I
- 15:39remember that bit and what parts of it were you like when did
- 15:42that happen? I don't remember that.
- 15:44I mean, okay, so full disclosure, I watched this
- 15:46episode a couple months ago, back when we started kind of
- 15:50talking about getting this podcast off the ground.
- 15:52So in this watching, I remembered a lot of it, although
- 15:55I will say that I did not remember the line about the
- 15:58books and massive than him dropping on the ground and I did
- 16:01write in my notes. About how it's very funny and
- 16:04then there's some profanity it in my notes on what repeat?
- 16:07But um, yeah in watching it when I first Revisited a couple
- 16:12months ago you know, I remember things here and there I did
- 16:16remember the intro of the fraggles and like his narration
- 16:19and kind of us seem like the be be silly and a lot of physical
- 16:23comedy and then like the slow as well.
- 16:26Go through this episode talking about it, the introduction of
- 16:28all the characters who are going to end up being kind of the
- 16:31Pinnacles of this show. But you know, there were there,
- 16:34a couple of the songs I didn't remember as we kind of already
- 16:37alluded to, there's like so much music it throughout all of
- 16:40Fraggle Rock and it was really just the theme song and follow
- 16:44me, which I could I'm sure we'll talk about.
- 16:46But that's one of my favorite songs from this entire show.
- 16:50So I'm very familiar with that. And also Uncle from.
- 16:55Is it traveling Uncle? Matt, or it's Uncle traveling?
- 16:58Matt Uncle traveling Matt, never get the order, right?
- 17:00Him going on to the world for the first time.
- 17:02Those segments always like make me make me so happy just like
- 17:06getting to see him interact with with humans and a fire hydrant
- 17:11in this episode and he like calls it a person and it's a
- 17:14very unfriendly person. Yes.
- 17:17Yeah. And like all the silly creatures
- 17:18and everything. So yeah there's this episode.
- 17:22I feel like I definitely remembered a bit more about it's
- 17:25going to be kind of a episodes as we go along that.
- 17:27I want to be like oh I forgot about this one or that one.
- 17:29So I'm excited. But yeah it was really Nice to
- 17:32get to be reminded about everything in this episode.
- 17:36Yeah, nice. Can I talk can I talk a little
- 17:39bit about the sets? Just from a puppeteering
- 17:40standpoint, I'll absolutely do you.
- 17:42Um, they all my God, the sets are incredibly meticulous and
- 17:46Incredibly organic, the the chill space that has all those
- 17:49little nooks where people can hang out, which is like sounds
- 17:53great. And looks like it would be a
- 17:54really fun place to hang out and just also happens to give
- 17:57puppeteers. A lot of beneath stage places
- 17:59where they can control the puppets for.
- 18:01Yep. And then, I was looking Looking
- 18:02at the, the really big set and there's like two different
- 18:06levels, two different layers of foreground, two different layers
- 18:09of mid-ground. And then a whole background
- 18:12layer behind that there's, there's gonna be so many people
- 18:15under that and it's, they their use of three-dimensional space
- 18:19to really fill out just the entirety of the, the screen is
- 18:24probably only done. So you want to hear something
- 18:27fascinating about the set that I just learned through reading the
- 18:30book. Yes, the Entirety was filmed and
- 18:36edited and music recorded all of it done in one old.
- 18:41Victorian house in Toronto really.
- 18:43Wow. Yep.
- 18:45Like they did not have like a separate Sound Stage separate
- 18:49place, you know, editing Bay all-in-one old house.
- 18:53All of the entire show is that even including the Gores I've
- 18:57seen so far. Yeah, I'm including like the
- 18:59gorgs palace and their, their area.
- 19:02Presumably. Yeah my guess is that a lot of
- 19:05that was done with a blue-screen or green-screen?
- 19:07Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. That's that's so Bonkers and
- 19:11awesome. I just assumed it was like some
- 19:13kind of like Duty o or something like that.
- 19:15Yeah, cool. There's definitely, they did
- 19:18remark. Yeah.
- 19:20II made a note about like, how, like, for the time that they're
- 19:23doing at the green screen, work is like really great, I thought
- 19:26it's really smooth. Mmm, oh that's another great in
- 19:30joke. Is that there?
- 19:32A specific filming technique with use of a blue screen that
- 19:38at the time was called a traveling.
- 19:39Matt, I won't actually a gobo is like, a thing that you put over
- 19:50a light this I need to. Yeah, I didn't know either
- 19:54School. Many I was on the stage.
- 19:58I was never a techie, although I have a deep respect for techies.
- 20:01Say, I didn't Yeah, I have a theater degree and this is my
- 20:04big takeaway from that theater degree.
- 20:06As I know what a gobos that's fair.
- 20:09I mean I have an engineering degree and I'm on a Fraggle Rock
- 20:11podcast. So I have, I have no stones to
- 20:13throw up. We're all were all there.
- 20:16Yep. Millennia.
- 20:17I went to baking and pastry School.
- 20:20Wait really? That's awesome.
- 20:21Yep, I did not know that about you.
- 20:23I didn't I tell ya you wouldn't because I never used it.
- 20:27I mean you're not a true Millennial if you don't have a
- 20:29degree that you've gone on to like never touch.
- 20:32Our actual adulthood, it's a rite of passage anyways fraggles
- 20:39fraggles. The other thing that I wanted to
- 20:41touch on that, I just love and it seems like a really small
- 20:43detail, but it's huge. The, the song that Uncle
- 20:48traveling Matt and Bobo sang together which a it's gorgeous.
- 20:51Absolutely gorgeous song. They've got like High Country
- 20:54harmonies. They're sort of all over the
- 20:56place stylistically which from a musical standpoint, I really
- 20:58appreciate but there's a bit in the middle of the song where he
- 21:01clears his throat. Throat and that that seems so
- 21:04small, but it's such a human detail that that's a choice.
- 21:06Someone had to put that in there so that it would be there and
- 21:10it's just this great little organic thing that makes it seem
- 21:12that much more realistic. Yeah there.
- 21:16Yeah, I feel like, I mean, anything kind of like Muppet ear
- 21:18Henson a, there's a lot of, like, little moments like that
- 21:21that you can find that are so easy to look over, but knowing
- 21:25like the performers and the people behind the scenes, it's
- 21:27yeah, it is all like just intentional and magical the
- 21:33Yeah, I love the song Follow Me. I traveled abroad after college
- 21:37for a year and like that song, I listen to like on, repeat it.
- 21:41So like it holds like a really special place in my heart and
- 21:44it's like, I have a muppet and the Sesame Street Tattoo.
- 21:47And that's like this. Eventually I'm gonna get Fraggle
- 21:49Rock tattoo and maybe this podcast will finally be the
- 21:53Tipping Point of me, getting it. But I want to get some lyrics
- 21:56from that song. It's just beautiful and like
- 21:58also Jerry Nelson and Dave goals like harmonizing together is
- 22:01great, right? I mean, join us in singing.
- 22:03Anything is amazing. I'm excited to hear all of the
- 22:07songs. He's gonna sing throughout the
- 22:08show. I'm so excited for the music in
- 22:10general also. That's awesome.
- 22:12Beth, I wanted to ask what moments of this are like, given
- 22:15that you've seen this half a million times or so, what
- 22:18moments are you always like, really excited to get to see
- 22:20again from this episode? One of them.
- 22:24We will see a bit later. It's boobers honestly.
- 22:32Any line from Uber is just a perfect one line.
- 22:35It's this great. He always has like at least
- 22:38two-thirds of my favorite quotes in any given episode but the the
- 22:42Hideous round thing. Yeah, that was great.
- 22:46I I love boobers book of superstitions and I want it and
- 22:53from a more meta standpoint re-watching, this I started
- 22:59really looking into Tracking the interspecies relationships over
- 23:07time because I know where they're going to end up.
- 23:10And so taking note of where they are from the very beginning and
- 23:15then I even learned more in the book about how it was originally
- 23:19pitched as something different. So, we see in this first
- 23:23episode, the different relationships between the
- 23:27fraggles and docket sprocket the fraggles a and the Doozers and
- 23:33the fraggles and the gorgs and the fraggles and the Doozers, we
- 23:39see a little bit later on mostly just ignore each other like you
- 23:43can tell that there's a bit of a symbiotic relationship going on
- 23:45because the fraggles eat the doozer constructions and the
- 23:48Doozers are happy about that and then we see later that when the
- 23:53fraggles go into the gorgs garden, that that's a more
- 23:56antagonistic relationship that the fraggles are seen as pests
- 24:01and The gorgs are these big dangerous things.
- 24:04And when I was reading through the book, it was originally
- 24:07going to be the other way around that, the fraggles towards the
- 24:11Doozers, had a more antagonistic relationships and the doozer
- 24:14would run away from the fraggles and then the gorgs were seen as
- 24:18more like friendly and harmless and then, do I captured one to
- 24:22take home as a pet? Whoa.
- 24:25Yes. What's really fascinating to me
- 24:27to see how that was just completely flipped.
- 24:29By the time, the the real show came Route.
- 24:31That's so interesting. Yeah, it does make sense because
- 24:34I feel like you want the fraggles to be, you know, you
- 24:37want your audience to like the fraggles, and if they're, you
- 24:40know, antagonizing the Doozers and being mean to them or
- 24:43anything or like, yeah, chasing them or whatever.
- 24:46Maybe that makes them seem a little less cuddly and likable.
- 24:51And it also, if you have them, you know, you're rooting for
- 24:54them against the gorgs as well, if they're, you know, switched
- 24:58into that role. It's really interesting.
- 25:00I didn't know that. It makes sense from a narrative
- 25:02standpoint wanting there to, you know, you can contrast it
- 25:04against the, the creatures that have significantly more power
- 25:07being the ones that are antagonistic, and that means
- 25:09that you get to see the fraggles again.
- 25:11Misusing the power that they have over the Doozers but
- 25:13they're not doing necessarily doing it maliciously.
- 25:16Which is a thing that is much more relatable, I think if
- 25:19you're a kid watching it. And also if you're an author
- 25:21wanting to help kids, understand World Peace.
- 25:23Mmm, totally. Yeah.
- 25:25So okay. The Doozers are they to make?
- 25:29Could we do we ever and you don't have to To give me any
- 25:31words in this. But do we ever find out any more
- 25:33specifics about their building materials?
- 25:35Yes, cool. Here's my theory.
- 25:37Don't confirm it or do if you want to great.
- 25:40My theory is that the Doozers are smelting down some essential
- 25:45nutrient or essential mineral. That the fraggles need is a part
- 25:49of their diet to survive. And that the reason that they
- 25:52are doing this is because it helps them manage their own
- 25:56population control and space because they are reliant on.
- 26:01On. Then this is the bit where it
- 26:02gets a little fuzzy but the fraggles are reliant upon the
- 26:04Doozers to smelt this nutrient and get it into a much more
- 26:08concentrated traded form or as the Doozers are reliant upon the
- 26:12fraggles to scare away. Any other particularly large
- 26:14predators that might see the Doozers is food.
- 26:17You put so much thought into like this.
- 26:19What like two-minute segment of this episode?
- 26:23Why else would they buildings? And it's just I just I mean
- 26:30without any spoilers I think that Beth you would know we're
- 26:35gonna find out more about like the doozer constructions like
- 26:39within the first season, right? Like I don't remember maybe when
- 26:43we find out like what they're made of and how they're made and
- 26:47can't be later than season two, right?
- 26:49Right? Like we because there are
- 26:52certain like doozer, there is a doozer cat-like character that
- 26:55is going to eventually become important down the line.
- 26:58But maybe that maybe that is until further.
- 27:01I and here's the thing it's been 10 years.
- 27:02So I don't know. But these yeah.
- 27:06And I remember the individual episodes but I cannot for the
- 27:08life of me recall where in the series, that's fair.
- 27:11So answers will be given just who knows how long it will take
- 27:16for us to get to those answers? Oh good.
- 27:18I'm just gonna keep my No, it's ready.
- 27:20I mean but this is no, I love these.
- 27:23This is like deep. This is so great.
- 27:25Like, please keep bringing theories to the podcast of on
- 27:29like what you think is going to happen through the progression
- 27:31of this show. Thank you.
- 27:33This is I was gonna do that anyway, but I'm glad it's going
- 27:36over. Well, this is going absorbed
- 27:38media ever. Since I started watching
- 27:40Adventure Time. Excellent.
- 27:41Oh, yeah. The other thing that I wanted to
- 27:43say about the Jews are puppets is just if you LIF.
- 27:46So that was a deep ecological dive.
- 27:48If I may know get into a deep philosophical, Philosophical
- 27:50dive who? So the fascinating thing about
- 27:53the doozer puppets, is that the thing that is moving them,
- 27:56predominantly is the machines that they're using from a
- 27:59mechanical standpoint. That's where the actual like,
- 28:02the motors are and like there are some of them that have the
- 28:04little wind-up legs, but whenever you see them working,
- 28:06it's the machine that is actually working.
- 28:09The the machine that they're on, has the motor.
- 28:11That's the one that's being, you know, controlled and just the
- 28:14idea that it is projecting the image of a doozer.
- 28:17That is moving a machine when the reality is Is the machine
- 28:20that is moving. The doozer puppet is just so
- 28:23hashtag deep. We will definitely I think
- 28:28probably when we get a doozer Centric episode.
- 28:32We'll do more of a deep dive on how all of the remote control
- 28:38mechanics worked, and the genius of bazookas who made it all
- 28:42happen. Mr. Physical Sky.
- 28:44Appreciate the heck out of you sir, that is not a lot of margin
- 28:47for error. Those are some skinny little
- 28:48walkways. Oh and Also, the other name of
- 28:53people, we need to thank for the existence of this show.
- 28:56So we talked a bit about Duncan Kenworthy, Michael K frith.
- 29:01Yes, with the conceptual artist, this book is jam-packed with
- 29:06Fritz sketches and it just Delights my heart to no end.
- 29:11I would love to see those so Emma up in your neck of the
- 29:13woods. Yeah every time you see like a
- 29:16particularly you know, beautiful Cave.
- 29:20And the weird little Moss is growing on it and the weird
- 29:23little creatures in the background that is all fresh.
- 29:26Yeah. Yeah.
- 29:27What happens next in the episode?
- 29:29What have we got into at this point?
- 29:30Probably at this point. It's Gobo going to go visit the
- 29:34trash Heap. Yes oh my God that was amazing.
- 29:40Yeah. Yeah that's Marjorie.
- 29:42The trash Heap and her. Oh my gosh.
- 29:44I didn't write down their names. Who are her two little
- 29:47companions but they're like fun. Mungo and gorp, that's not right
- 29:55to let you struggle, what are their names.
- 29:59Their names are Philo and gunge. I got the worst was really
- 30:03close, really close and the number of syllables.
- 30:06So, eight easy mnemonic for remembering who is who so phyllo
- 30:10is spelled, Pho ILO and filo and pink, both start with a pea and
- 30:16gunge and gray, both start with the G.
- 30:18Cool, cool. I mean I know that they're both
- 30:20played by David and Richard but yeah, I couldn't remember the
- 30:24names or which one was which so? Okay.
- 30:26I that will be my Endeavor for the rest of this podcast.
- 30:28It's rarely going to be relevant.
- 30:30Which one is, which is short, because they're, they're always
- 30:33together and they're always with the trash Heap, so it doesn't
- 30:36matter. I don't think there's ever a
- 30:37plot point where you need to tell them apart but you know
- 30:40there is actually there. There you go.
- 30:42There's an episode later on that deals with like more heavily
- 30:47with one of them than the other and it's really tasty.
- 30:50Okay, well I look forward to that then also can I just say I
- 30:53love what an oddly supportive relationship they have.
- 30:56Like I wish I could just have to little rats.
- 30:58Follow me around. And whenever I make a
- 30:59declaration just be like the trash Heap has spoken, right?
- 31:03We all need hype men. I want I see something.
- 31:05I don't want. Like, man, I want High Pratt's
- 31:07High. Perhaps.
- 31:10Then like, they'll intro you and you'll just break out until like
- 31:13a saw look. Oh shit.
- 31:15An amazing blues song that absolutely slaps.
- 31:18Holy, mackerel. Yeah.
- 31:20Oh, so okay. I have to find this quote.
- 31:23So at first glance, the idea of an omnipotent trash Heap being
- 31:30the Oracle for the civilization is absurd and hilarious and it's
- 31:35great to just have it at that level and then I This quote,
- 31:40once again, this is Michael Kay forth when archaeologists look
- 31:44into an ancient civilization, they don't go to the castle.
- 31:48They go to the dump. It's where you really find out
- 31:51how people lived. So I've always loved the idea of
- 31:54a dump as being a great repository of knowledge and a
- 31:58living dump could then impart that knowledge to you.
- 32:01That's so cool. Right?
- 32:04Oh wow. That's a lot deeper than I that
- 32:06I thought for that character. Yeah, no, I Idea, I did write
- 32:10down a note that like Marjorie is made up of primarily like
- 32:15leaves and like the remains of fruits and vegetables, so it's
- 32:18not going to happen, but it would be funny that if she just
- 32:21composted herself as the show went along like just broke down
- 32:25in compost. Yeah.
- 32:27I mean markers got like some great songs as the show
- 32:29progresses. And, you know, she's always
- 32:31there to Dole out wisdom to the fraggles.
- 32:34That's are they always that like bluesy because that was amazing.
- 32:38One of the Things that will see throughout the Fraggle, Rock
- 32:42songs, is that you get almost every genre of music.
- 32:46You can think of, we're going to get rockabilly.
- 32:49We're gonna get regarding Calypso.
- 32:54Would you say for gory and chance?
- 32:56Oh, I don't know if we get Gregorian, chants, but we just
- 33:00them, it's the Henson people, that's rad, you know, I really,
- 33:05I really want to hear a cover of that with like a really husky
- 33:07female Blues vocalist. I think that would be amazing.
- 33:09I think I would totally dancer that I know of a cover with what
- 33:13I'm guessing is a male vocalist. I'll accept that but watch
- 33:18yourself McCoy. Yeah, there's a whole album of
- 33:24Fraggle Rock cover songs by different artists and bands and
- 33:28it's delightful. Nice, I will send you the link
- 33:31to that, please do. And hey, we might even drop that
- 33:33in the show notes. Excellent keas feel like, feel
- 33:37like an all official podcast saying we're to put a link for
- 33:40something in our show notes. I did love the message that
- 33:43like, Yeah, from the song that the trash Heap was singing that
- 33:47like every dream will come with troubles and pain.
- 33:50That, that is not a thing that you see a lot in Children's
- 33:54Museum. A lot of times the troubles in
- 33:56the pain, just sort of get hand waved by a montage.
- 34:00And the idea that like know everything you want to do is
- 34:02going to have some rough stuff to it.
- 34:04That sucks. Mmm.
- 34:05That's what the troubles and pain are standing in the way of
- 34:09the thing that you want. Yeah.
- 34:11Rather than part of the process. Yeah.
- 34:14I feel like that's yeah. Often with like media for
- 34:17children. Your told like, you know, once
- 34:19you get around the troubles like everything is great as opposed
- 34:23to this which is so much more true that like you know it's
- 34:26gonna always be there you know, as a millennial.
- 34:28I can tell you why. Once you get around the
- 34:30troubles, there are bigger trouble or more troubles, the
- 34:33Relentless mhm. Yeah.
- 34:35I thought the song had a nice message and then, you know,
- 34:37afterward when when Gobo is is giving him his troubles, her
- 34:41advice is basically like, oh you're you feel alone and you
- 34:45don't know what to do. Go get your friends man.
- 34:49Like yeah, and it's, it's so straightforward, but I feel like
- 34:53it's very true, especially I feel like, you know, to date us.
- 34:57We are currently living through a global pandemic.
- 35:00And it's really easy to feel alone these days.
- 35:03And it's such a simple thing to be like, oh yeah, if I feel
- 35:06alone, I should just call a friend, you know, or concept,
- 35:10right? Yeah.
- 35:11Or oh, I gotta go do this thing that I'm like, nervous about
- 35:14doing. I could just talk to a friend
- 35:16and maybe they'll help me out. It's like a very simple concept
- 35:20but it's, it's also just very true and I think it's a really
- 35:23easy thing to like, just kind of sidestep sometimes and it's
- 35:28yeah, it's a nice thing to To be reminded of.
- 35:31Hmm and go above, especially is one of those characters that's
- 35:34gonna try and do things on his own.
- 35:37And not ask for help, like that's going to be his default
- 35:40mode. And he's got to be reminded
- 35:42occasionally like hey you have this Supporting Cast for a
- 35:46reason Gobo Gobo me too buddy. Me too oof.
- 35:51Yeah. I also, I love the other piece
- 35:53of advice that she gave him that.
- 35:55I put she her for the trash Heap, right?
- 35:57Yes, Marjorie. Yeah.
- 35:59Which is Just because I like the idea of like the the sort of
- 36:02Mother Earth figure there's sort of the idea of like a mother
- 36:04death figure and I like the idea that there's sort of a mother
- 36:07refuse figure is that is, but anyways, the other piece of
- 36:12advice is he's like there's this monster and she's like you just
- 36:14came through a gorg garden to get here.
- 36:16My dude what are you scared of? Yeah.
- 36:19Idea that like yes you might be scared but you already do
- 36:23something similar to this like it's nothing.
- 36:26Yeah. Absolutely.
- 36:26I also wrote that down in my notes.
- 36:29Yeah. So after that we move on to Gobo
- 36:31takes her advice and talks about his fears to his, his friends.
- 36:39And the knows I wrote down for that are one Uncle.
- 36:43Matt really should have established exactly what every
- 36:46few days means, big. I also wrote a note like, how
- 36:51does Uncle traveling? Matt know how he doesn't know
- 36:55anything about outer space, but he knows how the postal system
- 36:58works and how to get us. Hand on postcards and like, get
- 37:01a stamp on with an address. Look right.
- 37:04That's never explained really helpful and they won't judge
- 37:07you. Okay, that's fair.
- 37:09Maybe there's a cut scene where he's talking to a postal carrier
- 37:12and they're telling him how to how to do all of it.
- 37:15If there's any government agency that I would trust to just
- 37:18explain a mail system to a small furry alien.
- 37:20It's the postal service, but it's true.
- 37:23So one thing that I've noticed is that when travelling Matt is
- 37:27out in outer space which is Our world his interactions with the
- 37:32silly creatures, which are humans.
- 37:34Sometimes they can see him and sometimes they cannot.
- 37:38Yeah, I noticed that in this episode, like, the car like
- 37:40that, almost hit him honked at him, but then, like the group of
- 37:43kids, walking by did not notice him at all.
- 37:47I mean he didn't sort of hide. That's true.
- 37:49And they were like, kind of chatting, so I guess he was just
- 37:51out of their periphery, but yeah, it's going to be
- 37:53interesting to kind of track. You know what those moments are
- 37:57of like a when he has, like an Well, interaction with a silly
- 38:01creature and when they're just kind of not seeing the presence
- 38:06of this strange, little creature in their world.
- 38:10I can actually kind of jump back for just a quick second that I
- 38:13there's there's this really interesting bit with what's the,
- 38:16the pink ones name again. The Helpful time.
- 38:19Okay mokey this bit with Mochi where he's like I don't know
- 38:22what to do and he says something and I don't remember exactly
- 38:25what it was. He said but she responds with.
- 38:26Don't worry. He says I don't want to talk
- 38:28about it and She says, don't worry, we'll leave you alone.
- 38:31No one will talk to you about anything of this at all.
- 38:34He goes. Wow, when you're wrong, you're
- 38:35wrong. And I just, I love that they're
- 38:37already establishing that she means, well, but doesn't
- 38:39actually take the time to stop and understand things.
- 38:41Yep. Yeah, yeah.
- 38:44That's, we're going to see more of that spoilers.
- 38:47I watched an episode later in the season and there's, it's a
- 38:51whole thing about that. Yep.
- 38:53It's all it. And then, so he gets together
- 38:56with his friends and then they see.
- 38:59The horrible red thing gasp. So I did make a note about of
- 39:06the things that dock is unpacking from this box.
- 39:11Like you setting up the workshop is like you know some normal
- 39:15things like a telescope. Okay.
- 39:17That I guess that makes sense for a tinker scientist guy to
- 39:20have, but a pineapple. Yeah, there was just a and it's
- 39:23not that it was. There he takes it out of the
- 39:25box. Hmm.
- 39:26Which means it was in the box with the telescope.
- 39:30Why Snack. He's prepared for having like a
- 39:33snack time. Next time, he's in the workshop.
- 39:35Just got a whole lot. What?
- 39:37I know, what a hardcore man. Just just a loose pineapple, not
- 39:42skins. Not just, nope, take a bite out
- 39:45of that. Like an apple.
- 39:46Wow, doc just went from like a to to like an 8 on the
- 39:49terrifying scale. What you don't see is on the
- 39:54other side of the table, there's just a bunch of bite marks from
- 39:57when he'd forgotten his pineapple, but still needed to
- 39:59snack. And so he just consumed the The
- 40:01table. We're gonna you know we're gonna
- 40:05have to keep track of Doc as the show progresses.
- 40:08See if there's any more clues to like his life outside of the
- 40:11workshop that side of pineapples.
- 40:14Also, every time he talks about the workshop, I've been playing
- 40:16a lot of blood-borne and so that's all I can think of and
- 40:18it's a really weird mashup. It doesn't not work but oh it's
- 40:21a weird mashup. Unfortunately, I don't get that
- 40:24reference. It's a I'll explain it off
- 40:27camera, it's super nice. It's we're already doing a niche
- 40:30podcast. I don't need to go for The even
- 40:32Essure intersection there in. Although the speaking about
- 40:39weird intersections that you wouldn't think exists one of my
- 40:43goals is to get as guests on our podcast.
- 40:47The guys who did fraggle Shrugged.
- 40:49Yes. Oh my goodness, can you talk a
- 40:52little bit about that? Just the listener.
- 40:53Yeah. So is that, oh my goodness, I'm
- 40:55so glad that exists in leading up to this podcast.
- 40:59I was like, well, surely this has been done before someone
- 41:01must have done at, you know, episode per episode podcast a
- 41:05Fraggle Rock because Internet everything already exists it.
- 41:09Yes, and no. So they've got a lot of, you
- 41:13know, one off episodes of a bunch of podcasts out there.
- 41:16Usually about, you know, retro stuff or, you know, stuff we
- 41:21remember from the 80s but there was one podcast called fraggle
- 41:27Shrugged. We're in these two Danish.
- 41:30Guys will watch an episode of Fraggle Rock and then read a
- 41:35chapter of Of Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and talk about the ways
- 41:42in which they're similar and different and it is hilarious
- 41:46and at times horrifying and delightful and yet highly
- 41:52recommend just to be clear for anyone who's listening.
- 41:54They're not pro and Rand in this they're not right they're not
- 41:58thank you for that will show entirely different that'd be a
- 42:02very different show and I don't think I'd want to talk to those
- 42:04people. I kind of would but for
- 42:06different The reason. Yeah, I actually I had my notes
- 42:09stop at the pineapple because I was just, I had so many
- 42:13questions. So I had a note about once
- 42:17again, kind of tracking the cross-species relationship when
- 42:21traveling Matt and Gobo first encounter Dawkins sprocket there
- 42:24immediately like kind of suspicious, and weary and
- 42:28sprockets barking. So they think that he's this,
- 42:30you know, ferocious aggressive creature.
- 42:32And so when Gobo comes back and actually encounters, Sprocket
- 42:37face-to-face. Sprocket does kind of like grab
- 42:40at him but I don't think he's trying to hurt him.
- 42:43I think it's more of a like he's trying to get Doc's attention
- 42:46like there's a strange thing here come look at the strange
- 42:50thing so I can show this to you. Yeah I mean we could we could do
- 42:54a whole thing about how this show is so full of just
- 42:57sprockets bids for Doc's attention and Doc rejecting
- 42:59sprockets bids oof. Yeah too busy unpacking
- 43:03pineapples Downer there but yeah.
- 43:07You're not wrong though. You don't tell your dog to go
- 43:10play with himself. That's no sir.
- 43:14That's yeah, that's not how owning a dog works.
- 43:16You gotta give it a tension ownership.
- 43:18Yeah. I mean I love style of sprocket,
- 43:21I'm sure it'll come up throughout this podcast but my
- 43:24like day job is I work with dogs and just all like the man your
- 43:28mannerisms of sprocket and like obviously he is a lot more
- 43:31sentient than actual dog, he doesn't speak but he obviously
- 43:35he understands Everything that's being said and he is conscious
- 43:39of like the fraggles are something that he needs to show
- 43:42Doc because they're not of this world.
- 43:45But yeah. Like just little the little
- 43:47things about him in the movements like they really like
- 43:50kind of like we talked about like even like the breathing and
- 43:52whatnot like they I don't know I feel like they did their
- 43:55research on the movements of a dog and I less private.
- 43:58He's so cute and he's I don't I will get more into it but he's
- 44:02like growing relationship with Doc but also eventually me Be
- 44:06with the fraggles is something that is really nice buddy.
- 44:12Yeah I also have a note in there about because I had that note
- 44:15about his body language but then it turns out that doesn't come
- 44:18up in this episode but in this episode you get to see them
- 44:22moving him around. So you get to see that there's
- 44:24like a hand for his torso in a hand for his rear and the just
- 44:29the way that they got that like doggy sort of bouncing gents,
- 44:32totally? Yeah, absolutely spot-on.
- 44:36And he just It's his ball back. Also, you know, the sprocket is
- 44:40ball when he has like latched onto Gobo and everyone's like,
- 44:43oh let's they like toss his red ball, out of the hole that he's
- 44:48will be like, oh, this is now more important and he just goes
- 44:51and chase after the ball. That's like, so, on point for
- 44:53dogs, like, they could be doing something that to then at the
- 44:56moment is really important. But then the second ball is
- 44:59thrown. They're like, yeah, but I gotta
- 45:00go get this ball. Yep.
- 45:02Writers are like children. The easiest redirect method is
- 45:05distraction Yes 100%. Yeah that I also I love the what
- 45:10is it the the fraggle with the hat is like throw away.
- 45:15Whatever boober boober boober is like throw the horrible red
- 45:20thing in a real ghost. Wow.
- 45:22Establishing that there is some internal conflict even in
- 45:25moments of emergency is a nice little character detail that I
- 45:27really appreciated. Yeah, I love boober either.
- 45:31You've already mentioned Beth like that.
- 45:32He's got so many great lines, boober and is Nimbly.
- 45:36We like didn't get much wimbley in this episode, but I think
- 45:39when Liz probably my favorite character is the next episode
- 45:41Wembley episode and I'm making that up, I don't remember you'll
- 45:45find out, you'll find out, find out record next time and the
- 45:49next time I see if the next episode is the wimbley episode,
- 45:52I think there might be but also, I could be wrong - yeah, but
- 45:56yeah, I don't have too many other notes either.
- 45:57The last note that I have is this episode ends with Doc being
- 46:01like, Oh, that ugly hole is still here.
- 46:03Well, don't worry. I'll board it up.
- 46:05One of these days and it's Like no dude because there wouldn't
- 46:08be a show we have to like we have to see like Gobo and his
- 46:12uncle communicate about outer space and so it's very clear
- 46:16that you're not actually gonna. He got onto this one project of
- 46:19like fixing up this workshop and then has now moved on to not
- 46:23doing the project of patching up the hole in his wall.
- 46:26So what you're telling me is that the entire narrative
- 46:28mechanics of this show hinges, on one man's executive
- 46:31dysfunction, basically sounds about right and you will see How
- 46:37his actually getting stuff done around the workshop every once
- 46:40in awhile, affects those in Fraggle Rock.
- 46:42Oh yeah. What an interesting metaphor.
- 46:45What if all of the shifts in our culture are just God?
- 46:47Tidying house. Doc as a metaphor for God, it's
- 46:53like oh God, we've got these strange weather patterns and
- 46:55climate change and God's up there.
- 46:56Like I sewed, a button to a fried egg and that's how we got
- 47:01the Platypus. Yeah, you know, when when
- 47:04European explorers first try, The Platypus they legitimately
- 47:07like, like, shaved it and searched it for Stitch marks
- 47:11because they were so severe that it had it was like created, do
- 47:15we want to do? We want to get to the extra then
- 47:17if there's anything else? Yeah, any other final notes
- 47:20people want to throw out, I think I hit on my fake, fake
- 47:23notes. My only other note that I had
- 47:26was like just like one little moment.
- 47:28We're gonna has to run across the avoid the gorgs and he says,
- 47:32I'll have to sneak through a gorg's garden without a gorg.
- 47:34Seeing me and then Immediately jr.
- 47:37Sees him like no, hesitation like you just such a bad job
- 47:41sneaking. That's why only knows I was.
- 47:44Also my favorite thing about that moment, as he turns to the
- 47:46camera and goes, sometimes it works.
- 47:49Yeah, that's true. That's it for me.
- 47:52That's the stylist. Know, I have one other note,
- 47:55which is that Mookie's wearing a necklace which again if it's
- 47:59there it's a choice and I'm I just I'm wondering if that is
- 48:02going to be plot relevant later if that's just sort of a
- 48:04decoration character detail. I don't think that particular
- 48:08item becomes plow relevant. Cool.
- 48:11Good to know. I also have the other
- 48:13observation, like, in the intro where the fraggles are singing
- 48:17their, like, their group song about dance and sing all day and
- 48:20we see kind of the entire fraggle Clan.
- 48:23Some of them like the main characters workloads, a lot of
- 48:27the fraggles don't wear clothes. It's this is this never
- 48:31addressed in the future episode. I, you know, I don't think it is
- 48:35a I was just like, yeah, I'm sure it's probably so not
- 48:40important, but I was like, is that like a point of contention
- 48:42that some of them are just running around free from?
- 48:46I mean, I can see some quote-unquote children's,
- 48:49television activist groups on Facebook or what happened
- 48:52getting are other very irritated about that, all the Facebook was
- 48:55it around the 80s, thankfully, thank Christ.
- 48:58But yeah, real Winnie, the Pooh playing, I kind of, I kind of
- 49:01assumed that like for poohbear, that like the clothing was were
- 49:05just like to add Add Flair and like, obviously, all the main
- 49:07characters wear some form of apparel.
- 49:09But there were there, there were several during the song that
- 49:12just weren't wearing anything. And I was like, is this
- 49:14important, or am I reading too much into this probably?
- 49:18It's mostly for establishing character.
- 49:22Yes, if a character is going to be notable, they will have a
- 49:26distinguishing item of clothing. Sure.
- 49:28And if not, they're just kind of there in the back on me.
- 49:32If I want people to stop paying attention to me, I need to take
- 49:35my clothes off and hang out. In the background.
- 49:37Precisely absolutely solid. All right, so we're going to
- 49:40wrap up here. I'm heading out to Denny's and
- 49:43this will be a good night. The only other note I had was in
- 49:50traveling Matt's segment, what will come to be known as like
- 49:53the postcard segment, when he sends back to go Bo?
- 49:55And he says so far, I've been attacked by a large Beast run
- 49:58into an unfriendly, yellow fellow and escaped from an army
- 50:01carrying deadly weapons. If I put this in a message to go
- 50:04Bo, he'll never believe it. I'll just say I'm fine.
- 50:07Which I just found that so relatable, it's like stuff is
- 50:11happening and it's scary. But I'm gonna tell the people
- 50:16back home that everything's fine because I don't want them to
- 50:18worry. It's want you to worry, it's
- 50:20incredibly relatable, but also He's supposed to be documenting
- 50:22everything that happens to him and already.
- 50:24He's just like fudging the the truth and he's just like, oh I'm
- 50:29fine. Nothing to report.
- 50:30Yeah. From an emotional standpoint, I
- 50:32empathize but as a scientist I'm offended.
- 50:36Maybe because we do see him writing in a notebook.
- 50:39So I'm hoping that he's like, recording true.
- 50:41He's actual impressions in the notebook and then just
- 50:44editorializing in the post and the post cards.
- 50:46Maybe that's a good point. Hopefully that makes sense for
- 50:51the sake of science. Cool.
- 50:53And then the closing segments were takeaways and then how to
- 50:57make the world a little bit fraggle?
- 50:59ER yeah Forefront fraggle or is that my my conjugating that
- 51:02properly right? Regular Fregley earlier.
- 51:06Regulation who I like frag layer?
- 51:08Fregley. ER I mean takeaways from the
- 51:10episode I wrote down like the major overarching themes at for
- 51:14this one where the like the power the power of friendship
- 51:18dealing with like changes and then overcoming new challenges
- 51:21seem to kind of be like the main focuses that that we were
- 51:24getting in this one. That's really interesting
- 51:26because the theme that I got was like a lot more of sort of
- 51:28unintentional, interconnectedness.
- 51:31I mean, honestly, that's the theme of the entire Series so
- 51:33totally. Yeah.
- 51:34Yeah, we're going to see a Of that.
- 51:37Yeah. And like, yeah, I guess just
- 51:39like the overall takeaway. I feel like a lot of the
- 51:41takeaways just kind of come from Marjorie often but like, you
- 51:45know, just reaching out to your friends when you really when you
- 51:49need, when you need the help. Yeah, for me, the biggest
- 51:52takeaway is that wonderful contrast of the seriousness and
- 51:57silliness that, yeah, be be unashamed of the silliness that
- 52:03you carry. And Learn how important it is.
- 52:08Hmm cool that's nice. Yeah.
- 52:11How would each of you make the world a little fraggle earlier?
- 52:16I mean to me those were the the kind of the same question.
- 52:19Oh, I thought we were going to give like specific little
- 52:22fraggle e advice because I've been sitting on mine.
- 52:24But I was going to do the what's what's yours?
- 52:26Go for it. Oh, take off your clothes.
- 52:28Hang out of the background in. Eat a pilot, an apple.
- 52:33Well now we have to give one of those No disclaimers of like
- 52:37don't listen to Our advice I see I feel like if we even try to do
- 52:41that the McElroy's lawyers are going to call us and it's like
- 52:43going to go well yep don't listen to us.
- 52:46This is not good advice. I wouldn't I wouldn't even trust
- 52:49me if you ask me which episode of Fraggle, rocks, start with oh
- 52:55goodness. So that is it for our first
- 52:58episode. Thanks to everyone for joining
