- 0:00What's going on, everybody, and what's going on, folks? Welcome to the Deconstructing Topic Podcast.
- 0:06My name is David, and I'm your legendary host, the legendary host of the Deconstructing
- 0:11Topic Podcast, where we got a couple of topics.
- 0:14We got one or two, a couple of topics, and we just deconstructed the D way,
- 0:19which is, listen, D stands for my name, David. Let's make it happen.
- 0:24And today we got a little sports little episode going on here in the world of sports.
- 0:30A couple of stuff that I want to talk about for those who out there are keeping
- 0:34up with the World Baseball Classic as a Puerto Rican kid born in Puerto Rico
- 0:40living in the United States.
- 0:41Let's go. Let's go, Puerto Rico. Come on, man. Hey, listen.
- 0:45Props to Team USA as in the end of the tournament. The tournament starts basically tomorrow.
- 0:51There are eight teams left for eight countries. We're going to go over that.
- 0:55And I also want to touch bases on the 83-point performance by Ben Adbayo from
- 1:03the Miami Heat, the forward center.
- 1:06You know, I want to do these weekly sports things, but, you know,
- 1:08my life, you know, hey, listen, there's so much going on in the world of creating content.
- 1:14You have to unplug yourself. I try my best to be on top of baseball, football.
- 1:20Football is the one sport that I like to say that I could plug myself on Sundays
- 1:26with the red zone, only the red zone.
- 1:28I mean, you know, sometimes it's hard to watch my New York Giants just watch
- 1:32them on a game and you'll be like, what's going on?
- 1:35You know, you got the baseball, my New York Yankees coming up.
- 1:38We got the Rangers struggling in hockey in a nutshell.
- 1:41We got the New York Knicks. We contenders, we contenders, we contenders, and then we pretenders.
- 1:46Basically, that's the New York Knicks in a nutshell. The season,
- 1:49once again, we put in three, four games where we looking like one of the top
- 1:54teams out there in the NBA, looking to win a championship.
- 1:57Then we go on a two-game winning streak, losing like by 60 points.
- 2:01Combined, I'm just saying, I'm just saying, but hey, listen,
- 2:05I try my best to, and you know, in the world of wrestling, we got the rest of
- 2:09the minute coming up, I try my best to, you know, to be on top of the game, basically,
- 2:14no funny stuff, but here we are, we're doing a little sports thing, because the way.
- 2:19I don't, when am I going to talk here first, we
- 2:22are going to talk about the nba and
- 2:26the 83 game for ben i mean ben at
- 2:29the bio the forward and center from
- 2:32miami he was just kind of like that 83 game
- 2:36is the talk of the time in the nba and
- 2:39in a sense in sports and if
- 2:41you always hey listen i always appreciate anybody out there
- 2:44you hit that like button comment once again that's
- 2:48gonna help me if you love my podcast don't
- 2:52don't be greedy and be like not hit the like button just because
- 2:55you're listening to don't you want other people to listen because you
- 2:58believe and you take time to listen to my podcast so feel free once again to
- 3:02hit that like comment and share all that that good stuff but we here we making
- 3:09it happen you You already know you're talking about the Ben Adebayo game of
- 3:1483 points versus the Washington Wizards.
- 3:18I want to say I didn't watch the game.
- 3:21I seen highlights. I heard of it. Then I went back before, let's say, doing this podcast.
- 3:27I went back and I watched more of the quote unquote full highlights.
- 3:31In my train of thought, because it looks like, for the most part,
- 3:35someone who does a feat, especially, let's say, in the NBA, being that that's
- 3:40the second most scoring game ever in the NBA.
- 3:44Will Schembele with 100, and you already know Kobe, the legendary Kobe.
- 3:49Kobe Black Mamba with 81.
- 3:52People are just saying some people. I mean, I hear a little bit of everything,
- 3:56you know, some shatters.
- 3:57Again, you would think that something great happened in sports.
- 4:01But the fact that there's some backlash and a lot of backlash,
- 4:04I'll give my little two cents on the situation.
- 4:07Again, when you do a feat in sports, unless you're cheating,
- 4:14doing something out there, it's hard to give you props.
- 4:17You already know the cyclist Lance Armstrong was under dopity-dope,
- 4:23winning the Tour de France like that was a candy.
- 4:27Tour de France cycling, not an easy sport. Not an easy sport.
- 4:31Imagine cycling going up a hill down a hill to the side come on man come on
- 4:37i don't even think that there's a cyclist over the over 200 pounds they all
- 4:42like 150 and 120 that's with the equipment on i'm just saying it's hard but it's hard to kind of say,
- 4:50wow you've done this now again you know we will will i don't want to open a
- 4:54can of worms because that's another topic we could talk about of steroid use
- 4:58and all that and cheating all that in sports.
- 5:01But this is a game with the 83 points that, hey, listen, all right,
- 5:04you did your thing. I mean, what a feat.
- 5:07And I want to say, hey, what a feat. Hey, you know, great. 83 points in 42 minutes in the NBA.
- 5:14Once again, Kobe Bryant with 81 in what we would call modern basketball or modern NBA.
- 5:20And we'll shamblin a hundred like half a century ago, I think it was,
- 5:25or something to that effect. Again, wonderful feats.
- 5:28All different in its own kind. But obviously, in my lifetime,
- 5:32the two games, which is the Kobe Bryant game of 81 points,
- 5:36and not even the great Michael Jordan, I think the most he ever scored,
- 5:40like 68, you know, have you ever scored 70? I don't know.
- 5:44But when you score that much in the NBA, it's reserved for great legendary players.
- 5:49And I could understand the backlash where there's those out there who be like,
- 5:53Ben Adebayo, who in the world is this dude who happens to have been scoring
- 6:0016 points per game or 17? I don't know where it blows up at 83.
- 6:04Now, I'm going to say it's this. I watched the full highlights.
- 6:07I'm going to give you the stat line.
- 6:09For those out there who have not watched basketball, just, you know, wait, listen.
- 6:12It's good to know. If you have not watched basketball and you're listening to
- 6:15this, if you're from other countries and you're listening to this,
- 6:18hey, listen, basketball is basketball.
- 6:20Basketball is where we're at, created here in the United States of America.
- 6:26And the stand line would be this. You go for 20 for 43 in field goal.
- 6:32This one is interesting. You go for 7 and 22 in three-point.
- 6:37Now, for those out there, a three-pointer would be that you divide or you multiply 7 times 3.
- 6:42That means that in a basket you get two
- 6:45points three-pointer you shoot a three-pointer you get three obviously
- 6:48and if you go to the free throw which he
- 6:51did which is the questionable stat of
- 6:5536 out of 43 you get one point and you got nine rebounds three assists two still
- 7:02but he had like a nice little overall game if you look at the highlights and
- 7:07i'll be straight up i'm not saying And I'm implying it because,
- 7:11sadly, in the world of sports, and we got now sports betting,
- 7:14I don't know what was his numbers where you're going to get money.
- 7:18I don't know if somebody say, listen, if Ben Ayodayamo scored more than 30 points,
- 7:23the fact that he averages 16, if he gets more than 30 or 40,
- 7:27if I put in or I bet it, again, legally, $5, you're going to get $5,000. I'm just saying.
- 7:33I don't know what was the stat lines or the betting line for Ben at that,
- 7:37you know, a couple of nights ago against Washington to put in 83 numbers, 83 points.
- 7:42But if I'm looking at the highlights, especially in the first quarter, he was hot.
- 7:47You could tell the Wizards was playing. And they regarded him.
- 7:51He was hot. He was doing the three-pointer. He was doing a little bit of everything.
- 7:55And he scored about 30-something, 32, 30 points in the first quarter.
- 8:00That was four quarters. Keep in mind, if he does this every quarter,
- 8:04so 30, 60, 90, you could have 120 games,
- 8:08I mean 120 points, but it's a little bit difficult to push somebody to do that
- 8:14much in a 42-minute game, especially if the other team also...
- 8:22Gets the ball, you know, run out the clock, whatever it is.
- 8:25So somewhere you can start to see that when the second, the third quarter,
- 8:31you can start to see that Washington Wizard was not trying to stop the dude.
- 8:35It's like, oh, we're watching history, let history happen.
- 8:38And there was some questionable fouls. There was some questionable,
- 8:41I mean, defense, defense.
- 8:44Now he got to dunk the ball. He got in somebody's back. He got to do a little bit of everything.
- 8:48But there are sometimes it seems a little bit questioned, especially if you go for the free throw.
- 8:53Now, let me throw this stat like Kobe Bryant, the legendary Kobe Bryant,
- 8:56who scored 81 points back in 2006 against the Toronto Raptors.
- 9:02His stats, 28 out of 46.
- 9:06That means 60%. That means that Kobe was hotter than Ben.
- 9:107 out of 13 from 3 points. Now, keep in mind, Ben shot 22.
- 9:16If he got a little bit, you would think that, oh, because he's shooting more
- 9:203. If he got more threes, God knows, he would have gotten 90, 95, maybe 100.
- 9:26But the fact that if you're telling me this person was a center,
- 9:29power forward. Now, centers and power forward these days, they could shoot threes.
- 9:34Some of them could shoot the ball.
- 9:36Whether it goes in or out, they're not Stephen Curry, but I'm just saying.
- 9:40It is questionable that you start to think that perhaps, perhaps,
- 9:45they were pushing the stats.
- 9:47They were pushing the stats. and the fouls and all this nonsense.
- 9:51Now, Kobe went 7 of 13 from 3 point, very proficient, versus 7 of 22, versus...
- 9:59Free throws, 18 of 20 was Kobe Bryant.
- 10:03Think about it. That means it was a little tough game. I've seen the highlights of that game as well.
- 10:10Toronto was playing hard. I mean, it ain't like if they were just letting Kobe do his thing.
- 10:16Kobe was just proficient, shooting the ball, not getting to the foul. He was shooting.
- 10:21Double team, that ain't work. But with Ben, you know, again,
- 10:25I've seen the full highlights, and it was just no defense.
- 10:29There was a lot of one-on-one a lot of isolation for
- 10:33those people that familiar with basketball not familiar with
- 10:35basketball I'm sorry you basically that's five on five the other four plays
- 10:40starts to stand on the three-point line somewhere so that if you're banned you're
- 10:44one-on-one with whatever the player and then you know you'll get some help in
- 10:48the defense but by the time that they come and help because keep in mind you
- 10:51got you know it's a little bit hard to play zone in the NBA.
- 10:55So if you're doing the isolation, you got basically a one-on-one matchup.
- 10:59And Ben, he's a flat again. Not taking that away from him.
- 11:03But for me, doing that thing one-on-one, and then again, it was just so strange.
- 11:11So I see a lot of people just calling in an asterisk. Listen,
- 11:14I don't want to call in an asterisk, but I'm just saying.
- 11:16It is a question of a game, and I can understand why there's questioning,
- 11:21why people question the game, why people feel like this is a slap to basketball. Let's see.
- 11:25Let's see how, you know, what a basketball reacts to it or come about. But it is questionable.
- 11:31Again, props to Ben. You know, he was not SGA. You know, he was not Bronson from the Knicks.
- 11:38He was not your typical player to do this.
- 11:41I just hope that this is not a pattern for the NBA to do this because sadly
- 11:46the NBA's ratings, when it comes to his TV ratings are a little bit down.
- 11:50The attendance is still always going to be attendance.
- 11:52Because at 10, as I always say, when it comes to NBA, listen,
- 11:55yeah, it is a little pricey.
- 11:57So again, you know, props to him, whatever it is. I mean, he made it happen.
- 12:01But again, I can understand where are those people that just be like, you know what?
- 12:07I don't know about this game. This game is a little sketchy.
- 12:11And I mean, personally, the way I've kind of see the game somewhere, somewhere.
- 12:18I'm not saying it was rigged. I'm just saying that somewhere it looked like
- 12:22the Washington Wishes stopped playing defense.
- 12:26And when they did play defense, they fouled him because he is a decent free
- 12:31throw shooter and let him stat.
- 12:33I can also pad up the stats.
- 12:36But that's the word of basketball. Once again, if you enjoy it,
- 12:38by all means. If you didn't, hey, by all means. Continue to watch. I love sports.
- 12:44Just continue to watch. Let's see. Let's go next. Let's go with some baseball.
- 12:48World War Baseball Classic, which now we are in the tournament.
- 12:52It's elimination time. And let me just say is this.
- 12:57I grew up watching baseball. Baseball, to me, was my first sport that I could
- 13:02say that because since I was born in Puerto Rico, we had a lot of Puerto Ricans,
- 13:07great baseball players, Hall of Fame.
- 13:10You already know Roberto Clemente. I feel about Roberto Clemente,
- 13:14the pride and joy of Puerto Rico. Let's go.
- 13:18But the fact is that, you know, growing up and coming to the United States, baseball was my thing.
- 13:25You know, football is my thing now, but I'm just saying.
- 13:28Baseball is always that thing. It's always in my heart. You know what I mean?
- 13:32And I always kind of knock baseball a little bit because it is a long game.
- 13:37There's a little bit of not so much of excitement.
- 13:40But in these war baseball classic, especially this year, looking at Team Republic,
- 13:47Dominican Republic, who is facing Korea.
- 13:50Tomorrow, then you got Team USA versus Canada, and you got Puerto Rico versus
- 13:55Italia on Saturday, and you got Venezuela versus Japan on Saturday.
- 14:03The fact that, you know, I tried to see if I could watch some games,
- 14:08you know, sneaking my little, my phone, you know, somewhere,
- 14:11you know, I'm not going to try to say, you know, I'm just saying,
- 14:15not giving away my secret.
- 14:16I'm just saying, I'm trying my best, but it's a little bit difficult,
- 14:19So I try to catch the highlights and I'm going to say, well,
- 14:21it's a Puerto Rican, Dominican Republic.
- 14:24Some of the Latin countries that were there before and they got out once on
- 14:27Mexico, got Venezuela fans, Japanese fans.
- 14:32And there's something about this tournament and these baseball classic thing
- 14:38that brings fans to say, wow, if the Major League Baseball, for some reason,
- 14:44or teams decided, yo, I'm going to bring a band in and something to ump up the
- 14:50crowd, I tell you, baseball will be so much fun.
- 14:52And the fact that you got these folks, these baseball players we've seen in
- 14:57Dominican Republic, we've seen in Puerto Rico, we've seen here in Japan,
- 15:01when they hit a home run, and especially a home run to make it happen, they're celebrating.
- 15:06Like if there's no tomorrow and, you know, there's no retaliation.
- 15:10And that's one thing about baseball and the major
- 15:13league sports that if i hit a home run regardless of
- 15:16whatever the condition is with it's for the
- 15:19most part not the winning i just happen to have hit a home run and
- 15:22i'm trotting the bases dancing a little bit of salsa and next time i pad up
- 15:27you're gonna the pitcher's gonna get so upset that's gonna ding me and when
- 15:31i say ding is trying to hit me with the baseball pitch at me see major league
- 15:36baseball is missing something and i want of my players to be excited,
- 15:40but sadly, baseball frowns.
- 15:42Like, this gentleman's sport of whatever it is frowning. Like,
- 15:45if you did something extra.
- 15:48Next time somebody's going to say something like you shouldn't do that because we playing baseball.
- 15:53You know, the word baseball classic and let that sink in is fun.
- 15:59And seeing the highlights, seeing the fans is fun.
- 16:04And people are watching it. People are gravitating because there's a lot of pride, obviously.
- 16:08You know, these aren't just teams. These are country. Puerto Rico and Italia, come on.
- 16:13Hey, we might have a little West Side Story Part 3 up in this, Motherflower.
- 16:19Venezuela Listen now Venezuela It's one of A hot band in baseball Believe it or not Japan
- 16:25For some reason Japan is always that country That whatever United States Invent
- 16:31Japan perfects Whatever it is And baseball Is that one sport,
- 16:36Invented in United States But Japan perfected it The baseball The art of baseball Because they play,
- 16:43I've seen some documentaries Kids in Japan Jeez It's like a military out there.
- 16:50But, bro, let me tell you something.
- 16:53Baseball over there in Japan is popular.
- 16:56Always been. And will continue to do so because it's fun.
- 17:01You know what I mean? The fans get into it. There's always something.
- 17:04There's always an atmosphere.
- 17:06It looks like you're going to a party based on videos that I've seen.
- 17:09It's not like the fans here in the United States. I remember years ago there
- 17:13was this group of young ladies.
- 17:16Yankee, I believe it was Yankee Stadium And even I can tell you this story,
- 17:21American fans Go to the stadium and they're on their phones And that's okay
- 17:26You're checking your messages, you're hitting People up, but when you're on
- 17:30your Phone for like 58% Of the game And I remember these young ladies, those,
- 17:36Cameras like, oh, okay, you know I guess the only time they reacted when they
- 17:40realized That they're on TV, like, oh my god Ha ha.
- 17:44In baseball, let the fans be fun.
- 17:48If you're a baseball team, let them be fun. In Japan and in that league, they let people be fun.
- 17:57Now, we got on the other side of this pond, we got United States and Canada,
- 18:02two countries, two of the three countries that will be hosting the FIFA World Cup this year.
- 18:08So, Canada and United States, they got a little rivalry of everything and everything,
- 18:12especially in hockey. Hockey, you already seen a couple of weeks ago,
- 18:15the Winter Olympics, you already know.
- 18:18Hockey, Canada, and United States, oh, my goodness.
- 18:22And baseball, you know, hey, listen, United States got a little up and up, obviously.
- 18:27Canada doesn't go that far, so Canada has fielded a lot of continuing.
- 18:32Keep in mind, there's their baseball team in Canada that plays in the Major League Baseball.
- 18:37It's the Toronto Blue Jays. So it's going to be interesting there.
- 18:41Once again, even the Canadian fans, a little reserved, but a little bit,
- 18:44you know, the American fans, again, they do their thing.
- 18:48And they are letting loose because they eat their pride. United States, let's go.
- 18:53It's the tournament for the most part right now. And this elimination is going to be United States.
- 18:59We'll get that little home field advantage. But let's see. Again,
- 19:03I'm not going to say who's going to win, who's not. Not my predictions for now.
- 19:07I'm rooting for Team Puerto Rico. You already know Team Rubio. Let's go.
- 19:10And then you got Korea. Korea, again, another country that has perfected it.
- 19:17Baseball. They love baseball in Korea. Great baseball players from Korea.
- 19:21And they are facing against la República Dominicana.
- 19:26La República Dominicana in baseball. If Japan have perfect baseball,
- 19:31I wish I, you know, am I saying it right?
- 19:33Perfect, perfect. I don't know. Whatever.
- 19:37Republic, they, not only did they perfect baseball.
- 19:45Wow. Have they turned baseball? They love baseball. Baseball is fun in the Republic.
- 19:53It used to be a little bit different, but if you look at 30,
- 19:5640 years ago, there were certain poor parts in the Dominican Republic,
- 20:00you know, especially the Macoray, I forgot, Francisco de Macoray town,
- 20:05you know, in private towns in Dominican that sadly baseball was their go-out
- 20:09and then major leagues had these camps and they exploded a lot of kids.
- 20:13That's all a different story. but now it's a little bit different because you
- 20:16got a lot of media league baseball players that are dominican making money and
- 20:20they're doing their own camp thing so it's a little bit different now,
- 20:23you know dominican i can i
- 20:26say dominican republic and dominican baseball player have taken more
- 20:29control of their players in a sense winter ball
- 20:33it's a big thing in republic dominican republic where to
- 20:36say oh i don't now i don't really need to go
- 20:39to america to to make the big bucks even though
- 20:42you want to go america but the fact is that now there's
- 20:45more of a control and they love baseball geez more power to them that's hey
- 20:52that's my neighbors hopefully it'll be a puerto rico dominican republic thing
- 20:55because if puerto rico dominican republican baseball it's like hockey with american
- 21:00canada maybe we it's more a little fun in baseball but.
- 21:05It's gonna be interesting and shout out to dominican republic because they make
- 21:09their Their fans and their players and la musica that they incorporate in baseball,
- 21:15take notice, Major League Baseball.
- 21:17Take notice. I think there's a petition of making the DR, that's what they call
- 21:22it, the Dominican Republic part of the Major League Baseball team. That's funny.
- 21:28Perhaps they'll maybe they'll manage something. Not the Dominican Republic,
- 21:32the country in itself, but at least something. That would be fun.
- 21:36Because baseball, that's it. I just, when it's Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic
- 21:41and Japan, like those are the three countries with the fans.
- 21:44You got to love these fans.
- 21:46Listen, shout out to United States. Hey, Italia, Venezuela, not too far.
- 21:50They think, you know, Venezuela is a little mini hotbed. And Korea, hey, again.
- 21:54But for some reason, if you watch a baseball game, you watch these three countries
- 21:58when they play, the RPR and Japan, wow. Now, sometimes you're watching baseball
- 22:06in a concert, basically, but I love it.
- 22:09But anyway, I'm just throwing it out there for Major League. Follow Sue.
- 22:12If you're a fan of baseball and you're out there and you think that,
- 22:15let's say, I'll give an example, Yankee Stadium.
- 22:18In Yankee Stadium, we got the Bleacher Creatures.
- 22:21You know, for those out there, Bleacher is a place where tickets are not expensive.
- 22:28But you're going to get certain people out there. but I love the bleacher creatures.
- 22:34I've been in the bleacher a few times in my lifetime in Yankee Stadium and with
- 22:39the new Yankee Stadium and I believe it's a tradition they started in the O
- 22:43as well is that they do the calling of their baseball team, their baseball player.
- 22:48Let's say, Debbie Gita, you know, some type of deal.
- 22:52Jorge, Jorge, you know, you're talking about the back then.
- 22:57Aaron Judge, Aaron, you know, they do the calling before the game or when the
- 23:03game started in the first inning. So that's just cool.
- 23:05Let me know if you know any tradition that is fun that we might not know here.
